#also bought myself some cool dice
Eddie who gets Steve to play DnD with the kids and the rest of Hellfire and it goes great but for the first two sessions Steve has to borrow dice from Eddie and the kids.
When the third session comes around and Eddie asks him if he wants to borrow his dice again, Steve shakes his head and pulls the most innocent face when he tells the group he finally got his own dice, only to pull out several sets of hot pink 10mm miniature dice.

okay i did something ridiculously cool today and i gotta talk about it somewhere!!!
so i love D&D that’s not news, i run multiple campaigns, and i also happen to have a ridiculous amount of dice. my dice addiction got out of hand a few years ago and just kind of exploded from there, i have no idea how many sets i have now, but i love them all equally (that’s a lie, but shh)
at first to store them i made myself a very simplistic dice pouch, but grew frustrated with having to search to find each kind of die amidst the bulk of them. then, i bought a dice box with multiple compartments and painted it with a unique design. i’ve been using the box to keep my dice stored for a long time, but the collection is fast outgrowing the box
now, thing is, i’ve been in love with Laura Bailey’s giant multi-pocket dice bags for literally years - ever since I saw her very first one that she had for Vex. i searched everywhere online for something similar after discovering those were by commission only and far outside my price range, and i found a few other sellers on Etsy with multi-pocket designs, but here’s the kicker: every single design was 4, or 6, or 8 pockets. every single one, even Critical Role’s dice bags of hoarding
and how many dice come in a polyhedral D&D dice set?
seven
i was twitching violently that there wasn’t a single seller pitching a 7 pocket dice bag. 8 pockets is too many - one would perpetually be empty. i could split one of the sizes of dice up, but that would bother me, because i am weird. 6 pockets was too few, i’d have to combine the d10s and d100s and there’d be double the dice in that pocket and that would bother me (running theme here). i realized, having some very minor experience with sewing, the problem here was that an uneven amount of pockets complicates the design/pattern massively. even numbers of pockets makes the design simpler, straightforward, even easy once you know what you’re doing. seven pockets? there’s a reason it hasn’t been done before
so there was only one thing to do (or, well, five things to do)
1. i’d have to remember how to sew (having done all of maybe 3 minor sewing projects over the course of my lifetime, all within the last 6 years, lol)
2. i’d have to set up my new sewing machine that i got for my birthday (which i have no idea how to do, loller)
3. i’d have to then design a completely original pattern (never done that either, son of lol)
4. i’d have to make a prototype out of whatever was available (paper towel and staples, not even kidding)
5. and if that prototype worked, i’d then have to make a fabric prototype from scraps and keep making it over and over until i could actually complete a successful, functional, never done before seven pocket dice bag
and y’all
y’all
i fucking DID it
I FUCKING DID IT
there were tears! there were furious sobs of hysterical frustration! there was enraged ripping of fabric and accidental bending of machine needles! there was a very melodramatic episode of running out of all the black thread in the house (fucking HOW) and racing out to the shops for more! but in the end, somehow, after 3 straight days of multiple scrap fabric prototypes and failure after failure, i made it and it worked
and now, i am fucking exhausted and i am going to BED but here’s some pictures of my baby!!
the original paper towel prototype:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the first fabric prototype, a HUGE failure. the gap in the middle of the inner webbing was a problem to solve, and the outer case was way, way too big and had to be fully revised
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and finally, prototype #3, my second fabric prototype and my first full success - and yes, she’s ugly and made of scraps, but she’s still my baby goddammit
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and now you’ve seen the world’s first (probably not, but shh let me have this) seven pocket dice bag!!

I made this tonight and it was very good! I do have notes, though, for future me and anyone else who'd like to try it:
The recipe says it takes an hour, it took me about 1.5 hours. Which is pretty good, honestly, I was hustling. Plus I ~embellished~ the sauce and was working with tiny slices of eggplant.
(I used eggplant from the farmer's market, which was small and globe shaped, so I used all 8 or so of those. [I also bought mozzarella that came in 4 medium-sized balls. All of this slicing slowed me down considerably!])
Normally I make my family's spaghetti sauce recipe if I'm making something like this or lasagna, but it adds a lot of time. Here, I just sautéed some diced onions and bell pepper and mixed it in with my fave sauce (Classico fire roasted tomato and garlic 😜). It was fine!
I think the whole dish could be moister. Next time I'd add a 1/4-1/2 c. of water to the sauce so it doesn't dry out in the oven.
I had quite a bit of breading left over after breading the eggplants, so I just used it to top the whole dish before baking it. This also saved me from needing the other 1/4 c. of parm.
I used 2% milk (what we had on hand) instead of almond milk for the wet eggy stuff and it was just fine. I don't know why they call for almond milk.
I did not have fresh basil for topping, which was a shame! I had already maxed out my totally arbitrary quota of fresh herbs I allow myself to buy at the store. But fresh herbs are the star of the dish!
(The fresh thyme was certainly worthwhile.)
I baked the eggplant for 20 mins and really should have cooked it longer (n.b., I think my oven runs cool).
I served it with veggie Italian sausage but it's hardy enough that the sausage was totally unnecessary. A light salad and garlic bread would be 😘👌 That's all!

First Real Con™ (-ish. Like, still pretty small, but) Experiences, in roughly chronological order
-Went to a fun cosmic horror 'panel' that was just Premee Mohamed bleary-eyed off the plane on a Friday afternoon. Had never really heard of her before but was good panel, ended up buying her book to get signed
-Went to a D&D worldbuilding panel that was just, like, Some Guys talking and a physically painful Q&A session
-Got a fishbowl cocktail with 3 shots in it and dinner at Boston Pizza with friends (The pasta was honestly more of a mistake than the liquor).
-Spent an hour waiting in line Saturday morning despite already having my lanyard
-Went to a panel where a professional Viking Nerd just kind of rambled and answered questions of wildly varying quality for an hour and a half, then bought a copy of his personal illustrated translation/retelling of the Edas because hey why not
-Spent like 2 hours wandering around the vendor hall and spending a truly eye watering amount of money on [dice, mouse pad with cool print on it, many many posters, t-shirts, necklace, etc]
-Watched a pair of circus performers put on a ring/aerial dance/acrobatics routine set to the soundtrack of Ocarina of Time, was left acutely aware of how little core strength I have (ran into them outside the Con after too, they were nice and have very pretty business cards)
-Watched the local SCA chapter put on 45 minutes of sparring bouts and medieval dances
-Forgot to buy separate ticket to 19+ red carpet cocktail thing so went to gin distillery three blocks form apartment with friends who didn't have tickets for evening
-Spent at least two hours wandering around gawking at cosplayers (pleasantly surprising number of Gideons and also one Harrow, a truly incredible Aloy, an adorable couple and their kid dressed up as the Forgers, etc)
-Attended panel about how to do horror in TTRPGS (read: D&D) by Some Guy (well, Girl) that was actually pretty interesting. Presenter said her background was in event management which made sense given the super well organized powerpoint and the clear discomfort with public speaking.
-Played a few incredibly niche boardgames I had never heard of (the licensed Portal boardgame: surprisingly not shit!)
-Did swing dancing demo and actually had a lot of fun/managed to not terminally embarrass myself
-aaand finished off attended an actual multi-person panel with Premee Mohamed and T. J. Klune talking about worldbuilding which was, like, 75% just watching two fun charismatic people riff off/take the shit out of each other and was 100% an absolute blast.

hey!! I found the light house discussion to be very fascinating. I'm so glad you could find something to help you sleep. it's a process for sure but that's super cool and awesome. proud of you for working on helping yourself!
also it's super unique as well.. I've never heard of anything like this..?
i was wondering... i don't exactly understand when you two speak about the lighthouse. You said you bought it? but it's an idea?
I tried looking stuff up for it... is it a solo rpg you found? how did you come up with that idea to use it like that and do you have any suggestions for people who want to get into something like that?
i struggle with winding down for sleep and i really need more creative outlets so i'm super curious, but please, don't feel pressured to respond or anything. /srs /nm
I wish you the best of luck, as well, and I hope your night tonight is good :)
ohh okay i'll answer this one b4 i go to bed so i don't forget (n then good night to everyone because it is nearly 2am dear god when did THAT happen)
okay so i bought a game called "the lighthouse at the edge of the universe." if you want i can probably find a link for you. it's a journaling rpg, so basically it's a pdf (which i printed into a nice foldable little booklet that fits into my notebook) that has various prompts and things to sort of guide you to tell a story. e.g, you might flip a card that says what kind of event happens ("something needs to be fixed") and then roll a dice for outcome ("you fail"), and then you tell a little story based on that.
so i bought the game but obviously you cannot purchase an Idea. the lighthouse in my brain was free.
i have a BUNCH of solo rpgs bc i'm really into them (if u remind me i'll share some of my favorites bc i can't remember the names rn), and this one explicitly had the instructions "intended to be played before bed." being the good rule following autistic that i am (/lh), i obviously very eagerly went to bed on time to play it as soon as possible. match made in heaven.
i don't know how much i paid for it but these things tend to run under $10, and usually far cheaper. frankly i just snoop on itch.io bundles and snap things up when i can afford them. also drivethrurpg (i think that's what it's called?), but i use itch.io more.
using it as an innerworld experience tool came pretty naturally to me: it's a reflective game that i was already writing about myself and using to reflect my mood/etc., and i've always fallen asleep by thinking about stories. (i have/had maladaptive daydreaming traits. i never was fully madd, but definitely i veered close to it.)
if u want to use a solo rpg for innerworld things, my advice is to look for one that's specifically a journaling rpg, because some aren't. hearth has some more "crunchy" ones (i use that word very loosely because by their nature, all solo rpgs tend to be pretty soft). the qualities that make this work for me:
game is continuous (each entry takes place at the same lighthouse which i build and develop over time. that's a part of the game. there's no ending point, and there's not really a story.)
game doesn't focus on interpersonal interactions
game encourages you to use ur mood/etc. as prompts/inspiration (bc innerworld experiences are metaphorical, this helps it translate well)
lots of solo rpgs r free! they tend to use only a few things (my solo rpg bag has a notebook, where we write all of them, a d20, two d6, a coin, and a deck of cards, and that covers basically every game, barring the ones which use a tarot deck), and they span very wide genres. it's a lot of fun if you like that structured storytelling crunch.
ok this was longer than i meant whoops gn!

Okay. So apparently autism means I form a really strong connection to a lot of the things I own. If you’ve got similar habits, I recommend investing in some sturdy stuff. Doesn’t have to be expensive, but I’ve found I buy a lot less crap if I have specific things I have invested time and a bit of myself in.
Some of my favorite things:
Clamshell cigarette case: (good for holding notes, lists, business cards, disposable masks,
A cool pen: I have a ball point and a fountain pen. Highly recommend a fountain pen. It pushes you to relearn cursive because that’s what it was meant for.
A watch: Frankly watches are just cool and add nice details to your silhouette. Mine’s dead so I just set it to secret numbers.
A deck of cards: I got a neat little pirate deck. Good for practicing riffle shuffling when you’re waiting for things. Nice for playing Hearts or Crazy Eights when waiting with friends. Even playing dice in a shady back alley.
Tarot deck: I don’t believe in Tarot but I really like having them around. I have one in a cool wooden carrying case.
External battery: Mine has a built in carabiner so you can clip it to your backpack or belt loop.
Pedometer: I bought a neat little pokeball pedometer that I carry around with me.
A necklace: Good for showing a sense of personal style.
Sturdy backpack: Mine’s made of old retired sailcloth so it’s thick as shit and weather resistant.
Carryon: Managed to find a 1970s American Tourister bag for $1 at a garage sale. Absolutely fantastic. Deep. Wide. Fits in all of those carry on dimension cubes. Great for transporting stuff you don’t want your neighbors to see you walking into your house with.
Cigar Box: Mine says “Jucy Lucy” which I think is funny as hell. It isn’t the traditional flat clamshell shape, mine opens from the top but it’s great for transporting small little things like your jewelry, cards, etc
Suspenders: My tummy can hang over my belt and belt buckles may look cool but man can the wrong one cut into your tumtum.
Cowboy boots: Pricey. Don’t buy cheap. If they aren’t in the stars, don’t do it. But. They’re great for confidence. Like high heels with more stability. Slip on and go. Plus if you’re a pants person they can change they way your pants look around your ankle if you want a slightly less form fitting look to your silhouette.
Scarf: Great for if you’re feeling self conscious about your middle while you wear a coat as well as staying warm or keeping the wind off your neck.
Toiletries bag: Get one that isn’t just made of some kind of stiff cloth. Pleather is good for feeling classy as well being easy to clean and pretty stain resistant.
Cufflinks/broaches/tiepins/hairpins: Sometimes you need to really dress up. Usually when someone else is getting married. I like having a tiny bit of bling especially when I’m wearing a rented suit.
Bike: You can get one for about $75 on places like Facebook Marketplace. Really handy for when gas prices are too high and you’re cheap enough to suffer for it.
Skateboard: Super pricey. Not for the faint of heart. But a good way of meeting new people and getting out of the house. Do not start on hills like I did. I still have a dent in my ass.
Workbench: You might not have the room which is fine, but if you do, have a table you can store all of your hobby gear in one place. Something meant to take a beating, not a walmart folding table.
Cane: There’s no honor in pain. If you’ve got bad knees, bad joints, or frequent blisters, grab a cane. Get one with solid wood. It will breath more in hot, cold, and humid weather.
Sunglasses: Getting blinded isn’t good for anyone so invest in that prescription. I also recommend a pendent eyeglass case if you have regular lenses.
Camera: Your phone is neat and all, but frankly I don’t trust the cloud and film is more neat.
Sturdy phone case and a pop socket: We’re all adults. We know why. Don’t support your phone with your pinky. It’ll cause a lot of strain on your hands.
These are things I’ve been buying over the last few years. Slowly but surely I get things I can see myself enjoying. I try and ignore shitty plastic stuff. Get the braided charge cable. Get a cheap broken watch you can have repaired later. Minimalism is bullshit and nostalgia is poison but getting some cool stuff that will last you a few years will feel fantastic.

C2E64 - A Dangerous Chase - rewatch reaction
I think I’m ready for some journey to Bazzoxan tonight!  Definitely won’t get it finished, but ready to jump in.
(also I just bought a crap ton of dice.  I already have 10 sets.  I only play dnd once a month.  I am a full goblin at this point.  This was honestly one of the reasons that I was scared of getting into dnd, because I KNEW I would go goblin.  I tried not to for like, a year, and now I’ve given in.)
….So.  I also watch an Australian pokemon go youtuber, ProPlanty. …..I just want to know how he would react to this ad bit from Sam.
THAT’S a shirt that’s never been restocked!  Wonder what it looks like up close.
*removes a whole bunch of math in regards to locate object with the realization that the problem is not distance in dnd being bs, the problem is me and my failure to conceptualize any level of ‘higher’ math now that I’ve been out of school for ages.  I used to take calculus!  Now I use a calculator for everything.*  Well, one legit piece of info I did get is that when they sensed Obann at the edge of the 1000 ft spell, it would have taken one of them only just over 1.5 minutes to dash to get there.   ….wait.  *does more research*   World record for a 300 meter dash (which is 984 feet) is 30.81 seconds (Wayde van Niekerk from South Africa on June 28, 2017).   ….I am reminded of many posts online talking about how you really shouldn’t try to relate dnd to real life.  I am learning that lesson for myself.  (Beau with her movement of 45, using dash and step of the wind, would run 1000 feet in 44 seconds, so that’s at least
No I’m not going to continue that thought.  I am backing out of that tangent that ended up being useless and getting back into the episode.  I’m still only in the Last Time On!
For what it’s worth, I fully recognize that Laura and Taliesin both being in the black and yellow outfits means that I’ve seen clips or gifs from this episode for SOMETHING, but I can’t think of what it could be!
Ah, the discussion about “Orphanmaker”.  I still have quibbles with the reasons for the name, because it just plain confuses me.  I suppose it’s indicative of the attitudes of the tribe, that they give each other tough sounding names despite not living up to it, but it always ends up muddling how I feel about the name.  I also suppose that this is the point of the name though, that it ISN’T some narratively clear cut “Yasha earned the name through her actions with Obann but since she can’t remember it she doesn’t know how she got the name and thus how she would relate to being called it”. Instead it’s “Yasha was given the name by her tribe, basically just considered it a nickname/title, then actually ended up earning it under Obann which she doesn’t remember, which now adds a layer on to how she may feel or relate to the name once she knows about her past again”, which isn’t bad don’t get me wrong!  But it doesn’t slot easily into a story beat, which I guess is why I struggle with it at times (which says more about me than anything). To be fair, a reason for it may have been Ashley choosing the name to 1) sound badass and 2) give Matt something to play with during her amnesia times.  Does Ashley ever actually clarify out of campaign? (I also wish we knew what Zuala’s tribe name was.  As it is, I think we only ever know Orphanmaker and Skyspear?)
I love how Matt will present Option Safe and Option Cool and the group ALWAYS goes for Option Cool.  Travis’s delight at going through the Barbed Fields, the “ground zero of the calamity” is so palpable.  It also makes me even more happy that Travis was in the Calamity one-shot, he deserves it!  LOOK HOW EXCITED HE IS.
(I also love how Matt will sometimes take a joke and play it super straight – Sam asking Maruo if she’s seen Stranger Things and Maruo responding that she’s only seen half of the first season [hey me too], such a well balanced joke that throws everyone off)
Pike spoke Undercommon?  I did not know that!  Then again, I thought Yasha DID speak Undercommon.  No, critrolestats has her with just Common and Celestial.
Aw man, they never do get to Charis.  To be fair, I’m not surprised that Caleb doesn’t know what it is on a 26, I’m assuming it’s just a regular place in Xhorhas.  *looks at the wiki* Okay, a sweet little place, but not devastating that they didn’t get there.  Not worth a one-shot either.
I do love when this group is just all on different pages but all focused towards the same objective.  I think this is the most obvious moment of it playing out, with Maruo even referencing the mixed messages several times.  I don’t think any other group was this Messy, but it works when it’s the Nein.
I love the moorbounders so much!!  I think they’re about to lose them though, yeah?  Don’t they leave them in Bazzoxan and never get them back?  SAD TIMES.
I’m really glad that Ashley rolled high for Yasha to be able to share information about the Barbed Fields.  Because of where she’s from, she’s not really a PC created for infodumping, especially because the areas of Xhorhas that they have gone to are outside of her travels.  But being able to give a good chunk of info about the Barbed Fields has to feel good.
Ah, maybe this is the moment why I recognize the outfits?  Beau needing a short rest but refusing to ask for one, so Caleb immediately telling the group how weak he is and how much he needs a rest.  These two are SUCH a great pairing.
I don’t know if I remembered the joke before it happened, or if I just got it before they did it, but after Jester and Caduceus indicating to use spells at the end of the day, I did the little les mis singalong too XD
Ah no.  This is the Canon episode.  So far we’ve got “don’t shoot the messenger”, “don’t beat a dead horse”, and golf. Edit from later – and ravioli!
Slight spoilers for campaign 3, but I miss the sense of travel and exploration we have from C2, which doesn’t make SENSE because there IS travel and exploration in C3!  But for whatever reason, it doesn’t resonate as much with me like journeying through the Barbed Fields and stuff, and I have no clue why.
WAIT THIS IS WHERE YASHA GETS THE SKINGORGER???  I 100% forgot and thought Obann gave it to her!!  Maybe he only gives her the breastplate.
Fun fact!  I have no clue if this is just me or not, but I haven’t felt like any of Yasha’s swords actually FIT her, you know?  The Magician’s Judge, Skingorger, the Holy Avenger, Scaldsaber, they all SOUND cool AF, and apparently cleaver-style swords are her thing, but I dunno.  Maybe it’s because the fact that she did use so many swords that it ended up feeling like there wasn’t one that fit her well.  Unlike Fjord, where he has the falchion which just absorbs different characteristics, and then gains …. gains…. Hold on…. wiki help me….the Star Razor.  And both of those swords feel so strongly like they FIT, and the changeover has strong significance and character impact.  Whereas Yasha is just a little more like a videogame, swapping out one weapon for another when it’s better suited for it.  I suppose not everyone needs an Iconic Weapon though. How many weapons did Grog end up using?  Wiki shows EIGHT different weapons!  Plus just whatever normal axe he used at the beginning of the campaign which doesn’t even look like it’s on his wiki page so NINE?
For what it’s worth, cool combat!  Just not much to say.
Have I mentioned that I’m super mixed on the nickname Jessie for Jester?  Like, it’s a completely legit nickname that fully makes sense in context, and it’s cute that they all start having a nickname for her, so I do love that.  On the other hand, it’s just kind of a regular name?  Fjord, Yasha, Caduceus, Nott – all insanely unique names.  Beau/Beauregard?  Uncommon and rarely a female name.  Caleb is a normal enough name, but I feel like that 1) works with this concept, and 2) I mean, Bren Aldric Ermendrud is so not a normal typical name, and I feel like adding Widogast helps make it more unique.  And then “Jessie”.  *shrugs*  It’s a pretty stupid whine on my part, but it’s the bit of mixed feelings for the nickname.
Fjord giving Jester a kiss on the cheek, causing her ALL sorts of confusion!!  Honestly?  I’d love to know the out of game conversations that Laura and Travis had in regards to in game romance.  We know the bits said on Talks, but I’m assuming that those are exaggerated for humorous effect.  If I had to come up with and submit a question for the tower on 4SD, it would probably be ‘what is an example of some out of game conversations you have had with the other players or DM that you would feel comfortable sharing?’
Caleb uses Magic Missile more than I remember him doing so.  Then again, I think I underestimate this spell.  I remember being, not annoyed, but feeling like Matt wasn’t have Essek be super efficient during the Lucien fight when Essek just kept using Magic Missile. Probably just my own biases against the spell.  It IS automatic damage, no roll to hit or saving throw, so that is beneficial. Critrolestats says cast a total of 20 times, so it’s not like it was one of Caleb’s high use spells.  I think I think of it like Chromatic Orb – good for very early campaign and that’s all.  Can you tell I don’t play too much dnd yet?  (to be fair, also just played a druid, messing around a bit with a rogue now)
(looking at critrolestats, I’m sad that they didn’t track the spells that Essek did, but it makes sense because they don’t track NPC spells.  Essek is a PC in my heart, okay???)
I don’t know if this is the first time that Nott gets a nat 20 immediately followed by a nat 1 on the auto-firing, but I know it’s not the last!  I feel like this happens at LEAST three times.
Ooo, nice!  Obann name drop AND the Angel of Irons in the same questioning of the head!  Smart plays, good deception checks, and well picked questions.
I do wonder if this plot thread of the cult was always meant to be a sort of open closed plot revolving around Yasha, or if Matt has/had further ideas for Tharizdun.  It honestly could go either way.
I forgot that we got a canon reference to Marion’s agoraphobia before it actually came up for the party.  I like that!  I’d misremembered and thought that the party was the first time. Probably just the first time we clearly see it from her.
It’s very interesting seeing Caleb pushing so hard to stop Luc from being brought to the Chateau, because he’s so sure that Marion is now under suspicion.  Liam pushes it in many episodes, and while it’s discussed, it’s also discarded and Luc is still brought there.  In reality, it’s only in episode 128 that Marion is ever in danger, and it’s because of the break in at the sanatorium that the party do, nothing to do with the letter.
I love the games where they don’t want to stop playing and beg for more time.  This time it was an option!  But Laura needed to stop for health/baby reasons, and that takes priority.

Easy And Delicious Italian Pasta Salad
Today, I planned on preparing a delicious pasta salad that I love to make, so I thought to myself, why not share it with you all, too? Italian pasta salad is an easy go-to in my home when I'm craving something fresh, light, and full of vegetables and protein, and is also toddler-approved! It provides a wide variety of textures and flavors that even the pickiest child is sure to find something within it to chow down on, and presents nutritious food for them in a colorful, fun way. Best of all, its easy, fool-proof, and quick to make! Don't have some ingredients listed? No problem! Feel free to add any vegetable or alternatives that you think will taste good! It's so versatile that you really can't go wrong! Want to go even healthier? Ditch the store-bought italian dressing and make your own with some herbs, veggies, vinegar, and oil. Easy And Delicious Italian Pasta Salad
(Makes about 6 servings)
Ingredients:
Box of tricolor rotini noodles, cooked
Half a bottle of light italian dressing
Half a red onion, diced
1 large green onion, diced
Half a bell pepper, diced
Half can of black olives, halved or sliced
Half a cucumber, diced
Half a large tomato, diced
1 lb of mozzarella or other light cheese, cubed
Half pound of salami or pepperoni, cubed or sliced

In June 2023 I went to the first edition of the summer variant of Dutch Comic Con. They moved it from May to June and it was terrible as it was WAY too hot to function, it was the first time I didn't even go in cosplay. Either way, I always post, so here goes.
I went for a whole weekend with my bestie Eneath, which was fantastic, because we could go by car instead of train. It was a delight. However, the weather was not great.
I do not have a lot to report though; I did not take any photos with other cosplay, also due to being insecure about not being IN cosplay myself. On day 1 I did visit with hobbit vibes in mind, and on day 2 I went more casual than I had ever been at a Comic Con I think? I don't actually remember how I went.
I did take some pics though!
Tumblr media
These are some dice I bought! Tiny dice because they are CUTE as hell, dark glittery dice because they are COOL as hell, and a box of d10s in ace colours (in my opinion) because I thought it was awesome except I did not realize they were just d10s, rofl! All good though, just a bummer as I thought it was a whole set.
Tumblr media
I went absolutely insane with finances this time around though. I bought a fan with my favourite Genshin Impact character on it, literally using the element anemo to cool myself down... a bunch of Digimon stuff that I can build and some TCG, and on my bag you can see a geo vision from Genshin Impact. The vision is actually why I made a new friend at my local grocery store, he recognized it from the game and now we chat on occasion LOL. Also a bottle of mead, sadly apple cinnamon, because they had no cherry cinnamon.
Tumblr media
A bunch of artist alley merch as well. As always, love me some Miraculous Ladybug. I also got two fake Pokémon cards, gorgeous Ninetales, my favourite Pokémon... a sticker of The Last of Us, my favouritest game ever, and some Genshin Impact stickers... now also including Kaveh, another character I really like.
Also... gosh I love this so much, look:
Tumblr media
Ellie and Joel figurines! Also a Kazuha waterprint art below it rofl. I ended up not liking the fanart as much so I kinda forgot I owned it.
And uh, super random but I fucking loved that they introduced an onigiri stand and I am *starts foaming*
Tumblr media
The one on the far right was vegan, the two on the left are tuna. I had to try both, haha.
Last but definitely not least, they had a little Lord of the Rings thingamajig that we visited, where you walked a little bit through the journey. I remember being at the verge of tears somehow because I felt overwhelmed, but I'm a pro at holding in emotions sometimes. Here is the pics I took. Let me test this new feature, if it sucks I will edit the post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They should all be clickable for bigger. We'll see.
That is all I have to report on this Comic Con. The next post will be absolutely epicly, because it was a huge staple in my life and it still brings me emotions. Thank you for reading!

I have received confirmation that Star Wars aliens are indeed an unfamiliar topic to the average person these days. Growing up I knew it as the biggest fiction fandom in the world, which only really changed around 2000 when Pokemon and then Harry Potter became more exciting to kids. Until I got into Pokemon myself, Star Wars creatures were definitely my own biggest hyperfixation. So this is the kind of thing I just assume EVERYONE who follows me is already familiar with but here are my top 5 Star Wars aliens, with lore that I promise I’m not making up no matter how stupid it ever gets:
Tumblr media
Dice Ibegon: a hand puppet seen for literally one second in the Cantina scene, actually some kind of sandworm-like prop. A published “Expanded Universe” story, i.e. canon at the time, decided Dice was a female “Lamproyd” who could see through time with her force powers, and also that the wolfman here, Lak Sivrak, was her lover. Both their species gauged sexiness by nothing but deadliness, see, and they’re both apex predators from their home planets, or something. Part of their relationship was based on the fact that she can see his inevitable moment of death.
Tumblr media
As an aside, the special editions digitally replaced Lak Sivrak with an elephant monster because he was really always just a store-bought generic werewolf mask and George Lucas thought it looked too awful. I do not think anyone ships Dice with this nobody.
Tumblr media
BUBOICULLAAR: I loved this froggy guy so much, seen momentarily in Jabba’s palace, that I used to pretend to be him like other little kids pretended to be a dog or cat sometimes. Another published canon story reasoned that he was a highly sapient being but his species survives partially by pretending to be dumb animals and even playing the part of pets. Another alien implanted a bomb in Bubo to try and assassinate Jabba but Bubo easily removed it and used it to blow up the assassin instead, not because he cares about Jabba the Hutt but because the guy was going to use him as a bomb
Tumblr media
LOJE NELLA: this prop was nicknamed “Toadstool Terror” by the production crew, and I saw it referenced in a book without any pictures, so it tormented me for many years trying to figure out who “Toadstool Terror” was. It wasn’t even readily available information on the internet for years; I actually scoured books and magazines about “Return of the Jedi’s development and eventually I did spot this alien, correctly deducing that this had to be Toadstool Terror because of the mossy mushroom shape. Loje Nella never got much of a story added, just the “real name.” Conceptual artwork shows her with a tapering worm body and a pair of cricket-like legs, but some HACK at some point apparently gave her a humanlike body for a random book cover and other HACKS thought that was the canon design of her species.
Tumblr media
“WOL CABBASHITE:” a thing stuck on the ceiling in only this shot with a tongue that wiggles around. The name was given by a Star Wars magazine which established that these are force-sensitive, barnacle-like intelligent aliens who live for thousands of years.
Tumblr media
AMANAMAN: this is the alien people originally compared to a big dick but I thought he looked like a cross between a frog and a banana and I thought he was the coolest thing ever. I especially thought he was cool because he just looked weird, awkward and kind of goofy yet he carries around a bunch of rotting human heads and even part of a carcass. I actually saw him in a magazine about creature effects before I even knew he was from Star Wars and he gave me nightmares, so he was basically a bogeyman to me at 5 or 6 years old. Said magazine was in my late Grandmother’s ultra-creepy basement so I associate him with exactly that place. It had an unfinished wall that opened into a deep, dark crawlspace so that’s where he lived. Expanded Universe lore just reasoned he was from a race of like, tribalistic jungle headhunters which I always thought was lazy and bad. Unfortunately that’s still in the Disney canon. We’re really out here still assuming the first alien we see represents an entire planet’s culture??? I think Amanaman is just a twisted fucker is all. I think this is like aliens see Leatherface running around and assume that’s just what humans are.

Hey! :) I’ve wanted to play d&d for a while now, and after getting into critical role i finally decided to convince my friends to play with me. None of us have played before, so im both exited and a bit nervous since i’ll be the dm. We don’t know anyone who plays, and i’m not very comfortable with palying with strangers, so we’ll be diving right in together! Do you or your followers have any tips or good resources to recommend for new players and/or dms? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! :D
Hey there!
I’m very flattered that you would ask me for DMing tips, but I just have to preface this saying that I am a first time DM myself and I am currently on session 13 of my campaign. But I can see if I can list some things that I found useful building my first campaign :) And I totally feel you not being comfortable with strangers, I play with a group of friends and we were all first time players when we started!
Let’s start with resources! (I will put the links in a reblog bc tumblr is a dick about posts with external links in them. Sry for the hassle!)
Probably a bit redundant, but nevertheless very helpful: The core rulebooks for D&D. Which is to say The Dungeon Master Guide, The Monster Manual and The Players Handbook. Bc those are expensive as fuck, check out this lovely thing (1).
Then, depending on whether you play online or live: Roll20.net (2) You can invite your players to your campaign and make maps for encounters with minis on them, you can insert music that plays in the background and it also rolls dice for you if you have to roll a big amount of dice and don’t want to do math ;)
There is an encounter builder on kobold-fightclub (3) that can help you balance encounters according to your party’s level! I have found it quite helpful and it’s also an easy way to filter monsters for a specific terrain when you know that you’ll be running through a swamp/desert/cave etc.!
I also found this this cheat sheet very helpful, esp regarding the different conditions that I can never seem to remember.
Then, ofc, one of CR’s sponsors: dndbeyond (4). Me and my friends bought a subscription bc damn is it useful to be able to click on anything on your character sheet and see what the hell it means. It also helps you track your spellslots/HP etc. during combat.
Something I also did was watch Matt’s videos (5) on how he DMs. Altho it bears to say: Don’t compare yourself to Matt Mercer. It will only stress you out.
You like maps? So do I! Check these out (6/7).
You want to keep track of your npcs and important lore and places and everything? You could try worldanvil (8)! It’s like building a wiki for your own world!
And then about tips. It is probably easier to give tips when you have specific questions than it is to give general tips, but I’ll do my best! I’m sure many experienced DMs want to chime in and add to it :)
Communication is (as with most things in life) key to everything. Get together with your players for a Session 0 and just talk about what kind of game you want to run and what kind of game they want to play. There are people who like combat more than roleplay or vice versa. There are people who want to play an evil campaign or they want a lot of political intrigue or they are soft marshmallows like I am and don’t want permanent character deaths and so on and so on. Just get together and talk about what you guys want to create. Also talk about the characters with each individual player.Ask them about triggers they have, so you can avoid topics. Ask them how they feel about an NPC flirting with their character. It goes the other way around as well! Tell them about your boundaries and your expectations. One of my friends wanted to make a character with a neutral evil alignment. I told that it’s fine, as long as there’s the prospect for the character to evolve towards a neutral or good alignment, bc I have no interest in dm-ing an “evil” campaign.
Something that might make running a campaign easier for you is if your players’ characters already know each other before the game starts. If you’re like me you will sweat bullets thinking about how to get them to work towards a common goal. If they’re already friends/rivals/lovers/colleagues/members of the same adventuring guild you will not have that problem. And they can give you some notes on how they envision the relationships to be/how they met.
You can start your adventure with one of the official adventures that are out there if you want to! You don’t have to do a whole ton of worldbuilding like I did bc I’m a crazy person and have my whole setting homebrewed. If not, you can always make life as easy as possible for yourself and start small! Build a small town with a few key NPCs, put a small assortment of possible quests there and then only roughly sketch out what you want the “outside world” to look like. I as a player love some context when I build characters, so if you want to give your players a small introduction into the campaign setting, I think that would be helpful and also helps creating characters who fit into your setting! If you want to run a campaign that has tons of dragons and poisoned oceans that cannot be crossed by mortals it would be sad if a player came to you and gave you the character sheet for a sailor.
If you do a whole campaign, I found it helpful to have a rough idea about different factions and two or three major events that shape your world. Ideas for later quests will eventually tie into big world events when the players get higher level!
Draw yourself a map. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or anything, but at some point there will be a question about “where is the next big city, we need to buy healing potions” and you will feel much safer if you just have a piece of paper (analogue or virtual) with like... a rough outline, some landmarks and some cities on it. At least that’s how it was for me!
You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Don’t beat yourself up if your first quests are “standard” stuff like “Take care of this giant rat infestation in the cellar of the tavern.” or “My purple dragoncat has been abducted, please get him back for me.”. I started my campaign with small quests before getting to a small arc and then I want to work towards bigger arcs eventually. But for new players and a new DM I found it very helpful to keep things low stakes to not stress anyone out too much. If you fuck up the giant rat infestation, the world will not end, you know? That is nice. Also works well as a tutorial for everyone! Combat is intimidating! So many rules! Take your time to figure out how stuff works with some nice, small quests and some not-too-complex-combat encounters!
You don’t have to follow every rule. There are so many rules for everything and that can be helpful but it can also be stressful. You don’t have to do everything by the book and if you notice that some rules annoy you and your players, you can always change them as you go along! (Cats have nightvision. Sometimes the rulebooks are dumb.)
Don’t get hung up on too many details. I love worldbuilding, but I get obsessive easily. Sometimes I think my world isn’t ready enough bc I tend to think like a writer who has to have everything figured out. That is not the case with d&d! Sure, It’s good if you know stuff. But d&d is not only about planning, it’s also about improvising. And the world will grow while you play in it! Before you know it you’ll go like “I want to have an encounter with this cool ice monster. I need an icy landscape.” and then you will make one. And maybe it wasn’t there before, but who cares. Your players will be excited and you can make up the lore as you move along!
Did I mention communication?
If you have specific questions about certain aspects of DMing or how to start, feel free to message me anytime :) I hope this helps a little bit! I’ll reblog in a second with the links!

everyone else is fighting for second {Mortal Kombat (2021)}
SPOILERS FOR MORTAL KOMBAT (2021)
Summary: Canon Divergent AU. Crack & Fluff. The team develops into something of a found family, which happens to include Cole's actual family. They take a day off from fighting to go to the fair, where the biggest question is 'who is Cole's daughter's favourite in the team?' Besides her dad, of course. Kano is very competitive about this question.
A/N: 1968 words. I will take a meat-tenderizer and FIX the canon and make it SOFT. i love cole young and mk 2021, if you don't like that, you've been warned. everybody lives/nobody dies AU & kano isn't a traitor. also imagine there's just like.... more time before the tournament. enough to become a found family. like i said, fluff & crack. warnings for swearing.
If Cole had it his way, Emily and Kano would have never met. He would be perfectly happy letting everyone else on the team meet her, but he's yet to hear a single sentence leave Kano's mouth that didn't include some colourful variation of 'fuck', 'shit', 'wanker', or 'cunt'. So unsurprisingly, he wasn't exactly eager to let his teenager daughter near the man who Sonya had literally called 'scum of the Earth', but alas.
"I'll be on my best behaviour, pinky-swear!" Kano's grin was all teeth as he'd held his pinky finger up to Cole's glowering face, wiggling it a little when Cole made no move to finish the pinky-swear.
"If you say - cunt -" and the word sounds so uncomfortable coming from Cole, he damn well looks uncomfortable just saying it, "within a hundred feet of her, I'll get Kung Lao to cut you in half." And he gesutres over to where Kung Lao and the rest of their ragtag bunch of misfits; the man in question had forgone his usual weapon for a more modern, soft-brimmed sunhat, but his jaunty wave to Kano at the sound of his name still managed to be menacing. The Australian shuddered in horror at the mere thought; at least he took the threat seriously.
"You don't have to be jealous, man," the threat seemed to only have dampened Kano's jovial attitude momentarily, as he's got a spring in his step as he follows Cole to the rest of the gathered champions, "Uncle Kano's gonna set a fuckin' - flippin' -" he corrects himself as Cole shoots him a warning look, "great example." Sonya barks a loud, derisive laugh as Cole sees fit to remind him that he's not Uncle Kano.
"Emily's a good kid," Liu Kang assures, kind and sincere.
"Yeah, she never even believes me when I tell her Kano's a dirty, little rat," Kung Lao smirks in the face of Kano's sudden outrage, and Cole is pretty sure that, despite it being Emily and Alison's idea, to give the team a day of levity and to bond, this might be the worst plan he's ever agreed to.
"This is a day of bonding, not of infighting," Raiden's voice joins them, followed by the God himself only moments later, which is enough to unite all the champions in confusion at his choice of wardrobe for the day. While still sporting a majority of his usual attire, somehow he'd managed to procure a t-shirt with a meme of all things on it, a personalised meme!
"I designed it myself, I think it turned out pretty okay; whaddya think?" Kano sounded far too proud of himself, looking at the cartoon drawing of what could only be Raiden himself pointing awkwardly at Thor as depicted in Marvel Comics, who was pointing back.
"We are both Gods of Thunder," Raiden explained, pointing to his own shirt; Sonya had gone wide-eyed, unsure of how to react, while Jaxx was doing his utmost not to burst out laughing.
"I... didn't know you knew what a meme was," Cole admits, though honestly, once the shock had worn off of, it was rather charming.
"I didn't know you knew what a meme was," Kano fired back, equally confused.
"I have a thirteen-year-old, of course I know what a meme is -" but then it seems to hit him just as it hits Sonya and Jax, and the three of them turn to the pair of confused, cave-dwelling, internet-free champions. None of them knew where to begin trying to explain the whole situation, but thankfully, Raiden chose that moment to open a lightning portal, and they all headed through quickly.
----
The night that Cole and his family had gone home after everything had gone down, the fighting, Sub-Zero, and the man he's pretty sure is the ghost of his ancestor, Emily had looked him dead in the eye and called him a super hero.
And then told him that his friends were really cool.
This was a sentiment that his new friends seemed to share about his family.
Cole quickly comes to realise that family isn't something a lot of the rest of the team have nowadays; they have each other, but for a lot of them, that's mostly it. He sits on an invite to dinner that he'd already ran past Alison several days ago, before inviting Liu Kang and Kung Lao over, if nothing else, to repay the hospitality they'd shown him so early on.
Alison's rule was that there was to be peace on their property; no training, no fighting, but the team was welcome as long as they didn't bring trouble to the door.
So then it was Sonya and Jaxx, who brought dessert when they came over.
Emily once asked what Thunder Gods ate. Did they eat? Cole wasn't sure. He extends an invite to Raiden anyways, but it's politely declined. The next time, however, he took up Cole's invite, mostly for the company, and to thank Alison and Emily for their patience; having Cole away so often wasn't easy, he'd be the first to acknowledge that. Alison appreciated the sentiment, as did Emily, though she was also just bursting with questions for the God, and he did his best to answer what he could.
Then finally - finally - after so long spent with the team, of most of them coming to find comfort and serenity in his home on the occasions that they need it, Kano is invited to Sunday lunch too.
----
"I know us champions and our super powers are pretty cool," Kano says to Emily, the moment they step through the lightning portal and emerge into the sunshine and the noise of the fair, "but I'm your favourite, right? Besides your old man, of course," and he rolls his eyes a little at that, as does Cole, for very different reasons, while Alison shoots Cole a questioning look. Thankfully she still does not trust Kano as far as she could throw him.
For her part, Emily answers incredibly diplomatically, sounding much older than her thirteen years, and quite a bit like her mother;
"Kano, you're a grown man, my approval shouldn't matter to you," she sounds sincere, which is completely undercut by Kung Lao sliding into step beside Kano.
"Which means you're not her favourite," he teases, and Kano practically growls back, embarrassed, while Emily calls out to Raiden that she likes his shirt. He practically beams.
"Not a lot of people will really get it, though," she points out, and Raiden muses on that for a moment.
"But I get it, and it's mine."
"Fair point," Emily nods at that, as their strange group steps up to buy tickets.
---
Emily spends more of the fair of people's shoulders than she does actually walking, which delights her endlessly. Mostly she's up on Jax's shoulders, and charges her cotton candy for the ride, ripping a small chunk from the one Cole had bought for her.
"It's weird seeing you all look so normal," she says to Sonya, the two of them in line for the Dodge 'Em Cars alongside Liu Kang and Kung Lao. Sonya grins, knows exactly what she means, gaze turning to the two members of the Shaolin Order of Light, not that anyone would know simply from looking at them now. Where Liu Kang had found a pair of trendy, ripped jeans was beyond Sonya's imagination.
"You look cool, though," Emily amended quickly, "I didn't realise you all would come to the fair, but I'm glad you did," she's smiling brightly as they get closer to the front of the line.
"Who did you expect to come along today?" Liu asks, eyes wide and curious. It wasn't that he was as competitive as Kung Lao or Kano, but he still found the child's interpretation of their group to be interesting. She knows, in some capacity, what they're capable off; she'd watched her father slice, dice, and kill Goro after all. The fact that she could think so highly of them speaks a lot to her capacity for kindness, or perhaps her childish naivety, but Liu preferred to think it was the former.
Emily, however, goes quiet, seems to be a little embarrassed. She mutters something, avoiding eye contact with any of them, and Liu goes to ask her to repeat herself, but she interrupts him while doing so;
"I wanted Dad to have a day off," she admitted, before adding, "and... and Lord Raiden; I don't think he's had a day off this millennium."
"It's good of you to look out for them," Sonya tells her fondly, "our team can be pretty single-minded, but we needed this day off, I think." And she gives Emily a pet on the shoulder, and lets her steer the tandem Car when they finally get a turn.
----
"It's me, right? I'm your favourite," Jax asks Emily over lunch, not because he genuinely believes it, but because it riles up Kano, and to a lesser extent, the competitive Liu Kang.
"Jax is one bad day away from pledging his allegiance to Skynet, he can't be your favourite -" Kano grumbles.
"Dad's my favourite," Emily reminds them sternly, and Cole has to hide his proud little smile, before she adds, "and mom's my favourite too, the rest of you, well of course you're all badass as hell -"
"Is it Liu? 'Cos he's pretty and you're, yanno, a teenage girl," Kano scowls at the warrior who'd been attempting to just quietly enjoy his basket of fries. Both Cole and Alison are wearing similarly murderous expressions, and Kano raised his hands in mock surrender, dropping his gaze.
"Actually," Emily said pointedly, despite the embarrassed flush on her cheeks, though she was mirroring her parents intensity, "my favourite is Raiden because he's literally a God that shoots lightning out of his hands, and you're now my least favourite because you're a rat bastard."
"I taught her that," Kung Lao was grinning from ear to ear, and when he and Emily look to each other, they share a definitive nod.
"How come he's allowed to teach her words like bastard?!" Kano demanded to know.
"Because you're a bastard," Sonya interjects.
Kano is thankfully quiet for the remainder of lunch, sulking at his end of the table as chatter returns to normal, returns to talk of how everyone else had been enjoying the day.
----
At the end of the day, Kano shoves a large, stuffed kangaroo at Emily that he'd won at the booth where you had to knock over bottles.
"Didn't even use me eye or anything; lost an hour of my life and fifty fuckin' dollars," he was grumbling, while Emily was examining the prize.
"You won this?" She seemed endeared by it, endeared by the thought that he'd put the time into winning it for her.
"'course I won it, can I stop being your least favourite now?" He asked, and Emily tucked the kangaroo beneath her arm, giving him an appraising look.
"You can't buy my loyalty -"
"Wouldn't want it if it could be bought, I know that shit from experience," Kano interjected, crossing his arms defensively, ignoring where Cole was glowering at him every time he swore.
"But you put time in, and effort, so you're back to third with everyone else."
"As long as none of those bastards is beating me, I'm okay with that."
As they headed to the exit, to where Raiden had created a lightning portal for them all to go home through, Emily reached out and punched Kano lightly in the shoulder.
"Thanks, Kano, it's pretty sweet that you care so much."
"Don't tell the others," he grumbled back.
"We've been with you all day," Jax calls out, "we already know."
