Dustin: Why are you being such a dick, Steve?!
Eddie: Yeah, man. What’s gotten into to you?
Steve: Well obviously not you, Eddie!
[pause]
Dustin: HUH?!!!
Eddie, pushing Dustin out of the room: GO EAT YOUR LUNCH!
Dustin: IT’S 8PM—
Eddie: EAT IT!! *slams the door*

thinking about Eddie surviving and the immense guilt he feels about what he put Dustin through; how he remembers his last coherent thoughts in The Upside Down, the agonising regret, it wasn’t supposed to be like this, he shouldn’t have to see—
He doesn’t know what to do because Dustin isn’t talking about it either, just hovers at the threshold of Eddie’s room like a shadow; he’s still limping, just a little, and Eddie feels a fresh wave of guilt every time he notices it.
But then one day Dustin bursts into the room with single-minded determination. He wheels a TV inside, brings a VHS tape out of his backpack—all without speaking.
The tape starts to play.
Dustin takes a seat, drags it along the floor until it’s right next to Eddie’s bed, and sits down.
It’s a quiz show. Not just one quiz show, Eddie realises, when the tape just keeps going, on to the next episode, and the next… They’ve all been painstakingly recorded.
This took planning, Eddie thinks, his eyes burning. This took work.
About forty minutes in, Dustin speaks. He scoffs at the TV when a contestant answers incorrectly, “Yeah, you would say that, Neil,” dripping in condescension.
And Eddie has never been more grateful to hear Dustin Henderson’s tone.
He laughs, and Dustin does too, and it’s the first time they’ve done that since—since the concert—
“Eddie?” Dustin asks, very quietly, and Eddie keeps laughing through his sudden tears.
“I’m not—that was just s-such a stupid answer.”
Dustin smiles slightly, doesn’t call him out on it.
It’s not like they can paper over the fear of that night in one afternoon. But it’s a start.
Dustin amps up his dramatics as Eddie surreptitiously dries his eyes; soon he’s made fun of practically every single contestant, and while he doesn’t get around to talking about anything else, he shuffles a little closer to Eddie, like he’s really saying we’ll be okay.

Steve Harrington doesn't expect today to be anything special.
His kid, Dustin, is out in the garage hanging out with his friend Lucas. It's a calm spring evening, and there isn't a single call coming from the phone asking for his services. The former handy man turned jack of all trades has a day off, and he's taking the chance to catch up on the fantasy book Dustin picked up for him on his last trip to the library.
He's older than he once thought he could be, he's alive, and he's happy.
He's mid sip of his sweet tea - recipe courtesy of the Byers family - when someone suddenly comes in through the front door. Mr. Harrington jumps, closes the book with a dog-eared page ("Terrible habits, sir, terrible terrible habits," says a voice from the past in his head). But then Dustin walks into view, and while he's not entirely calmed, he's less startled.
"Hey there, big guy," his starts calmly, but his mood quickly sombers when he gets a full look at his son. "Everything okay?"
Something's off. Dustin's coming in through the front door, not the back door that's easier to get to from the garage. Lucas isn't with him, and Mr. Harrington's old acoustic guitar is in his hands ("Be careful, love, you might end up as our backup," says the voice with a wink he can still see). But most importantly, Dustin looks nervous. Sad, even, and Mr. Harrington never lets that kind of face linger long in this household.
"Yeah, I'm okay, dad..." Dustin mumbles, pausing in the front hall, staring down at the guitar. His eyes look far away. "I was just wondering, um... you know that band group that I'm friends with?" Dustin looks up, directing all of that pain right at his father, stabbing at his heart.
"Yeah, your buddies on that forum, right?" Mr. Harrington says cautiously. He's leaning forward on his knees now, book discarded to a side table to give Dustin his full attention. "Were they telling you something? Is Lucas okay?"
"No, yeah, Lucas is fine, his mom called," Dustin quickly mutters, briefly distracting the nervous tension in his face with a shaking head. He takes a deep breath, releasing it in one big huff as he holds the guitar tighter. "So, you remember how I told you we were all helping each other? You know, learning how to write songs?"
"Yeah?" Mr. Harrington affirms, gently encouraging him to go on.
"Well, um..." Dustin looks away again, down at his feet shuffling in the carpet. "The- the lead singer of that band? Said he wanted some feedback on one, so uh..." His eyes glance at the guitar in his arms before meeting his father's eyes again.
Mr. Harrington huffs a small sigh of relief, a smile overtaking him. Nothing's wrong, it's just Dustin wanting to share a song with his dad, and he's nervous. Mr. Harrington has nothing to worry about ("A one man crowd? Gotta make this really memorable then," says the voice, teasing words but a soft, scared, nervous tone). "Yeah yeah, of course, kid, I'd be honored."
But then why is Dustin still so tense when he nods? Why are his eyes still so sad when he sits on the couch opposite Mr. Harrington, while he tunes the guitar? Why does he keep looking at the empty space beside him, growing more anxious each time?
"Take your time buddy, it's okay," Mr. Harrington tries to reassure, but Dustin doesn't look up.
Instead he sits there, breathing deeply a few times. Looks over at the other end of the couch, blinks a few times before nodding to himself, turning back. His left hand runs over the frets a few times, other hand coming up to rub at his eyes-
Oh god, he's crying. And his dad is just sitting there, helpless and useless. Mr. Harrington's heart is impaled once again and he reaches up, wanting to try and fix this, to help.
But then Dustin's hands are settling on the guitar, determination joining the mix of sadness and anxiety, and Mr. Harrington is forced to sit back and watch.
Because Dustin starts playing.
He's heard the music from outside the garage walls. He's bought plenty of guitars for Dustin to play over the years, heard many types of genres coming from under the secrecy of that roof. It's Dustin's thing, his hidden passion outside of science and fantasy, so Mr. Harrington has let him have the privacy, keeping his pride tamed for his son's sake.
So to finally see Dustin playing is like pride tenfold, longing grasping his heart tight when he sees how Dustin leans into the music ("We're the few good ones left, dear... We just feel it differently from others, you know?" bemoans the voice in his head). How his eyes close, the tension in his body loosening as music echoes from the guitar's.
And it's a beautiful melody. Simple, like all good things are, but melancholic. Longing incarnate. Nothing he was expecting from this, but he never wants it to end. It feels like lost love, regrets...
But then the singing starts.
"First things first
We start the scene in reverse
All of the lines rehearsed
Disappear from my mind"
Faint and echoing. Barely audible at first, but steadily growing in sound as Dustin plays. Ethereal, Mr. Harrington remembers from the book. That describes it.
It's not Dustin, he's too focused on the guitar. And his voice cracks on words this quiet, his tone off no matter what genre he's singing along to. Gets it from his dad.
It's almost familiar. Sounds like home.
"When things got loud
One of us running out
I should have turned around
But I had too much pride"
Suddenly, something shifts in the air. It feels cold, like soft wind in a breath, then going tingly. The light pattering of winter's first snow.
There's a window behind Dustin, the evening light shining through the blinds and curtains lighting everything in a warm glow. If he wasn't watching Dustin, he wouldn't have seen it. The beams being cast on the couch beside Dustin are slightly bright... and are swiftly getting brighter.
"No time for goodbyes
Didn't get to apologize
Pieces of a clock that lies broken"
Before his eyes, the sunlight starts moving, swirling and disconnecting into little beads of light. It shifts colors, a gradient of orange and reds, purple and blue, a hazy cloud slowly materializing on the couch.
It's shaping into something, moving into specific sections to the music and words. Changing color all the while, blacks and reds appearing deeper, a figure coming through the shape. The voice keeps getting louder, screaming familiarity at Mr. Harrington-
Then in a flash, it solidifies, and everything else fades away. No room, no weather, no sense.
Just music and singing and... and him.
"If I could take us back
If I could just do that
I'd write in every empty space
The words 'I love you' in replace
And every time would not erase me"
He's sitting on the couch next to Dustin, almost laying down. Leaning back against the arm rest, knees bunched up on the cushion but shoes hanging off the side. His clothes look aged compared to nowadays, but it's the same flannel and black ripped jeans and chains as the faithful day they lost each other.
Oh god, his voice has the same gorgeous vibrato, words flowing from his lips like poetry. His hair has the same soft curly bounce, product keeping it infinitely safe. His face, his hands, his presence remains unchanged.
He's not looking up, doesn't have to for those deep amber doe eyes to be so visible. He's messing with his rings while he sings, watching the silver glint in the light that created him. Doesn't hide how sad, how longing and lonely he looks and sounds here in this place.
A hand is coming up to Mr. Harrington's chest, tears blotting his vision and he's not ashamed of blinking them into reality, can't let himself look away from this.
It's him, it's him, dear god, the man he thought he lost over 30 years ago, the man he thought left behind their love by choice while he had never let it go, who's voice and presence never left his mind, who he thought would come back but never did and couldn't have, he's ghostly and gone, he's gone but it's him, his love, Steve's love, finally here after so long...
"If you could only know
I never let you go
And the words I most regret
Are the ones I never meant to leave..."
His voice starts cracking, that sweet pretty voice breaking. His face crumbles, hands trembling and it breaks Steve in two and he wants to reach out and help, he wants but he can't-
Then he finally looks up. Their eyes meet and there's relief and longing and pain and sorrow in both of their eyes because they're seeing each other, finally finally finally, after so long...
"Unsaid Emily..."
Sung in a whisper to the strumming of his son.
Munson.
Eddie Munson.
Steve's sweet, dear Eddie Munson.
He came back...
He finally came home...

part 1, part 2, part 3
Wayne stays at the hospital longer than he should. Rubbing his fingers along Eddie’s pick necklace like a rosary. Hoping that if he just prays hard enough, if his voice can be heard, Eddie will wake up.
The prognosis isn’t great. Each day that passes marks another day where his chances of waking up get lower. Even though many people have woken up from medically induced comas much later than this. According to the doctors. According to the pamphlets given to him at the start of all of this shit. But those are just words. Words he doesn’t believe fully.
Six days with no changes. No improvement. Just a tube to make sure he’s breathing regularly and an IV to make sure he doesn’t die of dehydration or starvation. The doctors say that his brain still shows activity, and his heart hasn’t missed a beat since he was last revived. Eddie’s alive, but just how much?
How much longer will Wayne sit in this agony waiting for him to wake up? Or how long until the string of hope just ends six feet under?
Religion was something that Wayne dealt with sporadically. He was raised Catholic, sort of still is a practicing Catholic. Goes to church when he isn’t too tired, still prays, and goes to confession sometimes. Just didn’t always make sense. But now, it’s all he’s got.
Eddie’s in God’s hands now. Whether that’s the God in the Bible, or some other deity of the many other religions in the world, Wayne doesn’t care anymore. As long as he’s heard, and this being knows his boy is good. That he was taken far too soon.
Eddie liked to say there was nothing much for him past high school. That he was going to run out of town as soon as he could and fight to make something of himself. Be a struggling musician, find odd jobs. Anything to keep him out of the monotony of a corporate job. Get him away from the conservative views and stuffiness of this town. Somehow get big enough to prove them all that he wasn’t a failure. Or never come back to prove them all right.
It would be a sad day when Eddie finally left for good. The trailer would seem empty without the life that Eddie brought. The peace and quiet that Wayne always asked for not bringing any peace because it was too damn quiet. He knew this now because it’s what’s keeping him here each day.
The beeping of the heart monitor was like the heart beating in his chest. Some noise came from Eddie to prove that he was alive. Almost like he was acting himself again. The motel room he was staying in was too quiet. No music down the hall, no clanking around the kitchen, no yelling at the TV or a book. Just the occasional noise if there were neighbors and people driving to the hospital. It was all the wrong noise, though.
“Excuse me,” a nurse says as she enters the room. “Visiting hours are over, I’m going to have to ask you to leave.”
Wayne nods, getting up from his chair. Back screaming as it pops itself back into place. It’s his day off, or night off tonight, so he can actually sleep. If it ever comes to him. Might be one of those nights where the ceiling and him have a staring contest. He’s been close, but never quite won one of those yet.
The Chief’s car sits outside of the motel as Wayne pulls up. It’s only been a day since they spoke last, there can’t be that many updates. Wayne can’t think of any other reason he’s here.
Wayne invites him into the motel room, the urge to offer him a drink screaming at him, but he has none to give. Hospitality doesn’t come with the room fees.
“I’m guessing there’s something new, that’s why you're here.”
“Not necessarily. I’m still trying, but until the one guy I normally negotiate with comes out of hiding, that’s when the real talking happens.”
Wayne sits down on one of the chairs, too tired to keep standing. “Why’re you here then?”
“To check on you. I know the hospital life well. It’s no picnic, especially if you’re doing it alone.” He pulls another one of the chairs over to sit down.
There’s no lie in that. “I’m about as good as anyone could think.”
The Chief pulls two beers out from under his coat, handing one to Wayne. He takes it faster than any beer he has in his life. Pulling out his pocket knife to take off the cap.
“How long till that friend of yours comes out of hiding?”
Hopper shrugs. “Don’t know. Sent him a few threatening letters, and he still owes me one, so we’ll see. If things were better here, I’d go hunt the man down myself.”
Wayne nods. The company’s nice, he can’t lie. Sitting in solidarity with someone who knows what you’ve been through. Making sure nothing’s going worse than it already is. Like a sponsor through the hospital proceedings.
When the sun finally finishes setting, the chief excuses himself. Not before handing Wayne a slip of paper with his number on it, just in case anything happens.
The more days go by, the more Wayne is reminded that he’s not alone in this. Not fighting this battle alone. People believe him, more than just kids. People with influence. It shows in how people keep coming in and out of the hospital room. Saying how they know he’s innocent. That he’s guilty of some things, but not this.
It makes him think back to that afternoon, snapping at the Harrington kid. It’s so easy to be angry at people who are better off, in so many ways, that vision gets blinded. Seeing someone who went through something similar to Eddie get out, and be conscious while his boy is still asleep. Probably will never have to worry about hospital bills and medical debt. It makes him angry.
Even if the kid doesn’t deserve it. Wayne has no clue who this kid is and how he knows Eddie. Why he claims to have been there in the week Eddie was missing. What it all means. It doesn’t make any sense. None at all.
But then the next morning when he’s getting coffee, there’s the kid again coming in beside Dustin. Talking to someone at the front desk before heading down the hall. Right to the elevator, and up to the floor Eddie’s on.
Wayne heads back to the room, ready to kick him out again or apologize. He’s not sure yet. But, the room is empty. Steve is instead down the hall, talking to Susan Mayfield. Looking serious as hell, and halfway ready to cry.
Another kid comes out of the room, one who’s stopped by a few times to check on Eddie. Lucas, Wayne thinks is his name. Remembers it only because Eddie had ranted a few times about some kid named Lucas trying to be on both the basketball team and part of the Dragons club.
The kid says something to Steve before he’s being wrapped in a hug and starts crying. Steve just holding him as this kid breaks down. Presumably about the person behind those doors. Wayne assumes it’s probably Susan’s kid. Remembers hearing that she was in bad shape. Hopefully, that didn’t get any worse.
Wayne returns to his room, not wanting to intrude. A nurse comes in a while later and asks him to step out for a bit.
“What for?”
“Eddie’s breathing has improved over the last twenty-four hours. The doctor came in to check on him early this morning, and said that if by noon it was the same, the breathing tube could come out.”
“And that’s a good thing?” Wayne’s hesitant to believe anything these days.
The nurse nods. “As long as his oxygen levels stay, well level, then yes. It means that his body is well on the way to recovery.”
Wayne nods, taking his coffee to the waiting room. There, he just waits.
Note: The next part of this will get a bit interesting. I've been having ideas for a while now of making this duel POV between Wayne and someone else, maybe Steve. Mainly because I keep thinking of conversations that would happen, but Wayne would be nowhere to witness it. But I think what this fic needs is a POV not directly in the main relationship that will be happening, to keep it an outsider POV fic. So I'm thinking that the second POV would be from either Robin or Dustin. I'm currently deciding between the two so let me know what you think. I'm also going to start posting this to ao3, and will provide the link to that once I think of a title. I will continue to post the smaller parts here on tumblr, and you will not be missing out on any of the story if you only follow it on here. For now all of the parts will also have the tag #morgan's wayne POV. If that changes, as it probably will since this is no longer just a wayne POV fic, I will let you know. Also, Max is alive, they just got a heavy diagnosis that you will learn of later.

In season 2, Nancy wasn't there in the house when Billy attacked Lucas and nearly killed Steve because she definitely would have shot him. How severely though, do you think? It definitely wouldn't have been fatal but definitely enough to fuck him up especially if she saw how scared Max and the others were of him. I can see her going for the dick or the hand. As much as I like Max picking up the bat to stand up to her abuser, I like Nancy and Steve being the ones to give Max that feeling that someone is finally looking out for her. Also, Billy not thinking that Nancy would shoot him, and then she does it anyway. . .gold.

new roomie?
Tumblr media
pairing: steve harrington x fem!henderson reader
content: swearing, mentions of drugs, idiot steve
Tumblr media
y/n henderson had always envies her younger brother. I mean come on, how had Dustin Henderson manage to gain five more friends than her. the only friend y/n had was the infamous willow roth, ex-cheerleader at hawkins high and your current roommate at college. they had been strangers before bumping into each other at a fresher's week party, coincidently studying the same subject; law.
you two became best friends and lived in the same flat until willow got suspended for multiple instances of being caught with weed on the campus along with other drugs, however with a record as clean as her's and straight grades she got lucky and no law enforcements were called.
"do your seriously have to leave!", you exclaimed, laying on your back on the bed with your head dangling off "- i mean it wasn't that bad...right will?"
your best friends mouth curled into a smile as she witnessed your antics, "it was going to happen eventually y/n, anyways robin was telling me about this hot new guy who joined, something about going to high school with him back in Hawkins". now this caught your attention as you roll off the bed with a thud onto your stomach.
"first of all ouch and secondly you say that as if im obsessed and fall in love with every guy i see!" you huff, sitting up against your bed, earning a look of disbelief from willow.
"alright fine! how hot on a scale of ten? also what subject is he taking? does he have a girlfriend because that is the biggest question i need to know-"
"-slow down y/n/n ! and to answer your questions, ten out of ten, i think some sports or doctor related thing, and i dont know ask robin when you next see her! anyways shouldn't you start cleaning the flat since your new roomie should be arriving in 20 minutes?!" replies willow with a hand on her hip.
"jeez okay mum!", reluctantly standing from your position on the floor to fling yourself into willows arms "but first a goodbye hug!!"
after 10 more minutes of goodbyes with lots of tears and laughing, you began the cleaning which didn't take too long seeing as all the rooms were tiny! while wiping the counters in the kitchen you heard the jingle of keys and the opening of the front door, so you threw the cloth in the sink and flattened out your skirt before making your way into the view of the door.
you slightly flinch as the door slammed against the wall behind it as her new roommate came into view lugging suitcases and a backpack inside, looking up at the stranger before you, you struggled to get the words out.
My gods he was pretty, mousy brunette hair with lighter brown highlights were illuminated from the sun streaming through the kitchen blinds. you didn't know whether it was from the heat or if he was naturally glowing that caused your eyes to widen as you shamelessly checked him out. clearing your throat you draw your eyes away and caught yourself from where they were to soon follow his torso down lower and smile back up at him.
"y/n", you exclaimed loudly before clearing your throat and beginning again , "Sorry hi I'm y/n henderson!"
Shaking his head at the abruptness as he takes his turn to admire you and he smiles widely before if falls with shock and confusion after processing what you had just said, "Henderson? shit"
He can not be falling for dustin's sister!

keep thinking about Dustin being Gavroche coded so here’s the start of something 💔
Eddie is starting to suspect that Dustin’s trying to kill him. For one thing, he’s way too close to the edge of the trailer roof when they’re checking that the cables stretch far enough—“Uh, absolutely not, get back, dude,” Eddie says when he notices, to which Dustin says with a smartass grin, while kicking his feet over the edge, Jesus Christ, “Just soaking up the atmosphere.”
Eddie rolls his eyes, but it’s difficult not to be affected by Dustin’s enthusiasm: it steadies his nerves, allows him to play the guitar with a combined speed and technique he’s never achieved before.
The ‘concert’ is fun, almost too much fun; as they scrabble off the roof, Eddie finds himself choking back near hysterical bouts of laughter. He only gives into it when they’re both inside the trailer, Dustin jumping up and down in his arms—most metal ever!—and Eddie figures what the hell, they’ve earned this victory.
Then they hear the bats on the roof.
Eddie does his best to smother the fear—heart in his throat when the bats break through the vents, almost screams himself hoarse telling Dustin to, “Get out of the way!”
And they’re running as the bats splinter the wood of his bedroom door, and Dustin’s right, it’s not gonna hold; Eddie watches as Dustin climbs up the bedsheet, lands safely onto the mattress, and there’s a thought growing in Eddie’s head, but in his hesitation, he looks up and—
He doesn’t know what it is, really. There’s nothing to see, just Dustin staring at him expectantly. But there’s some kind of intuition that spurs Eddie on—inexplicably he thinks of when he was a kid, when Wayne seemed to always know that he was sick before he did.
He climbs.
“You gonna give me room?” he says, aiming for light-hearted, because even as he hovers at the lip of the Gate, Dustin still hasn’t moved.
Dustin blinks. “Yeah, yeah,” he says, and the words sound distant—but so does everything, Eddie reasons, thanks to that strange distortion when communicating between the two dimensions.
He lets go of the makeshift rope. He lands on the mattress, Dustin having shuffled over to give him just enough space. Exhales.
“Holy shit,” Dustin breathes. He’s laughing like he doesn’t know what to do with himself.
Eddie smiles. “Yeah, holy shit.”
The screech of the bats sounds more muffled than what he’d expected. He dares himself to hope; it worked, it worked—
“This feels so weird,” Dustin says.
“Y-yeah.” Eddie nods. “Just, uh. Adrenaline. It’ll pass.”
“Yeah, that… that makes sense,” Dustin says slowly, and maybe if relief wasn’t coursing through Eddie’s veins, he’d hear the alarm bells ringing, because Dustin always has an answer, always likes to be right, but instead he’s sitting up, surveying the Gate, and no bats are coming through, so maybe…
“Holy shit,” Eddie echoes. “Dustin, I think it worked, whatever the others are doing, like those goddamn bats are, like, dying or…”
“Eddie?”
Eddie turns.
Sees spots of blood on the mattress.
Follows the trail to the back of Dustin’s hand. There’s something there, so small. Puncture marks.
A bite.
Dustin’s eyes are glassy, pupils dilated. Eddie watches in horror as his chest heaves erratically.
“I—” Dustin chokes, his hair already drenched with sweat. “I feel really weird.”
And he collapses.

Why do you all hate when people headcannon the stranger things characters as ANYTHING? I’ve never seen a fandom more ready to mob you for a mere headcannon. Whether it be Bisexual Mike, autistic headcannons, trans headcannons, preferrred pronouns and disorders.
Fuck you all, and also Wil Byers is trans and has DID.

foreshadowing s5
So, naturally I was rewatching st3 and i noticed something.
So in ep1 when Dustin comes back from camp he shows Will, Mike, and El the crafts/machines he build and I was wondering he kind of assigns everyone a weapon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First he has his 'forever clock' that he gives to Will. I don't really get what the purpose of this is but he says its "very useful for the apocalypse"... And he gives it to Will... I think this is hinting at the weird time things going on related to the UD, like the fact that it's been stuck on the day Will dissapeared, birthdaygate, etc. I'm also thinking (hoping) this means Will is going to have some sort of time-related powers and that it can be used against Vecna.
Then he goes to his next weapon:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then he gives Mike 'the Slammer'. I personally think this maybe foreshadows s5 where Mike's weapon is going to be some kind of sword, like we saw in Will's painting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then he shows his Cerebro.
Tumblr media
He describes it as 'an unassembled one-of-a-kind battery-powered radio tower'. He says that it carries a cristal clear connection over vast distances. Can vast distances be... other dimensions?? What I'm saying is that this kind of discribes El's superpowers when she goes 'mind fighting' in S4. So maybe this is all some sort of foreshadowing for the big battle with vecna in s5 or maybe it isn't and I'm over-analysing this???
Anyway there are some smart ppl on this app who can maybe get more out of this or smt.. let me know if you do
And bonus:
Tumblr media
of course the bag that carries the cerebro is blue and yellow bc why woudn't it be??
