how many sins have we accumulated by trying to do what makes us happy; either by listening to music or participating in fulfilling our lustful desires or being rebellious or by means unmentionable.

nobody will teach you that it is wrong and very destructive in the long run, because more than anything your imaan will suffer greatly and that is what we are to protect with all that we have.

i think the concept of happiness is one of the most misunderstood ones in islam.

we are taught to enjoy life and be joyful and optimistic indeed, but not at the expense of our imaan or our aakhirah.

we are to be "meaningfully happy" which should and can come by being disciplined and focused; by not fulfilling all the desires of our soul.

that is also a form of fighting in the cause of Allāh, fighting your soul. it is a form of jihaad and its rewards are many.

so please remember that your soul is sometimes a friend, sometimes a foe. learn to listen to it only when it is being a friend. and discipline it with strictness when it is trying to harm you and your imaan by being a foe.
