Hyperfocus can be scary...
Like, you do stuff and do some more and more and just like that hours have passed, you're tired and hungry and thirsty and really have to pee, and when you stand up you get dizzy and all your joints ache and you're like, 'how on earth did I not notice this?'
It's a really weird feeling...

My ADHD during the day when I have all the free time in the world to do as I please: "noooooo i want to sleep for five hours then stare at the wall soulessly for five more :/"
My ADHD in the dead of night when I am exhausted and need to sleep: "Hobbies!!! We must play the flute!!! Journal every thought we have!!! Engage in a dramatic reenactment of all of Shakespeare's classics!!! Research the effects insecure attachment on childhood psychological development!!! Learn to speak French!!! Make our own mobile app!!! We don't need sleep we need dopamine from following impulsive pursuits only to abandon them the next day!!!"

I finished listening to the Magnus Archives last night, and just wanted to thank these two users in r/TheMagnusArchives for providing posts that finally soothed my broken heart a little bit in the morning. I hope they can do the same for you, too, if you’re also easily utterly devastated by endings that even have a smidge of dark uncertainty.

So, the other weekend I hyperfocused on making that tiny goblet, right? I learned the hard way that holding dremel for hours on end don't play nice with loose joints and ended up having to wrap my wrist for days because it hurted so much and felt like it was looser than usual.
I asked for help on FB group and was recommended to try flex shaft. I got one, not a cheap purchase, but turns out it helped a ton!
So when last weekend I hyperfocused on carving a bigger goblet, I had some minor aches yes, but it didn't even agitate the old injury :D
And this is what the new goblet looks like
Tumblr media
Still needs bit of sanding, polishing and oiling, but I'm really satisfied with how it turned out ❤️
Dad said he's been looking for a turning lathe, with full knowledge that I WILL teach myself to use it to make stuff like this :D

Classpecting is so wild to me. For context, I’ve recently finished Homestuck and have delved deep into the mechanics and (honestly spotty) Worldbuilding, deeming myself a Mage of Heart. Like, the more I study how Aspects and classes function from all the different lenses (Hero’s journey, session role, personality, expected worldview, psychological/philosophical profile, etc), the more I fit being a Mage of Heart. Like, I had already sorta felt that that’s what I’d be but like, almost every interpretation fits me to a T.
Hussie might not be a good person, but they have crafted possibly the greatest narrative classification system this side of the Aarne-Thompson-Uther Index.

ADHDers, is there a word for coming down from an intense emotional event (whether 'positive' or 'negative') and getting caught in a hyperactivity loop or hyperfocus mode, and not actually being able to get back to grounded smoothly?

When your ADHD kicks in...
...and suddenly you're finding yourself making an offer on ebay for a complete spinning wheel at 2 am in the morning because...spinning!!! *_* 🧶
--------------------------------------------------------
Update: I got the spinning wheel!!
And now I'm renovating it...cleaning, wood grinding, oiling the drive...I've never done anything like that before but I 'm kind of enjoying it! 🧽🔩🧴
Now I'm afraid that this might be the start of another new hobby! 😳 Someone help!

my mom sent me a post on insta about adhd hyperfocus and it described how you can hyperfocus on a PERSON. like a FRIEND or a CRUSH or a ROMANTIC PARTNER?? It literally made me cry because I absolutely experienced this with my toxic best friend/crush and it absolutely destroyed me. I started crying not because I was sad, but because I was really not aware of how many things my ADD influences. I discovered that it's not only the cause of my inattention or my poor time management, it's also one of the causes of my bad relationship with friends in the past, my obsession with a current crush, my difficulty with keeping up my personal hygiene. It influences so many parts of my life that I thought were just a me problem, like, "why tf can't I just shower regularly, literally just get into the shower real quick it's not hard and you'll feel better after, what tf is wrong with you?". But no, it's a valid problem and I am not the only one experiencing it. I'm not just lazy, it's a real struggle.

God, knitting and crocheting is so hard with ADHD. You start hyperfocusing, and then BOOM! End of the row. You lose your focus.
It happens every. Single. Time. Does anyone know what to do about this???

Things I meant to do today after work:
pick up groceries
fold laundry
Read
Things I did today after work:
Pick up groceries
Helped change lightbulbs in kitchen & bathroom
Ran to hardware store for special lightbulbs and a battery for the garage door opening system
Fixed garage door system
Ran back to hardware store when it was discovered the box of bulbs was short one. The hardware store people were amazing & went above & beyond to help fix it
Came back to find the dishwasher was not draining due to an inadvisable item being included in the most recent batch
Removed entire dishwasher filter, cleaned it, reassembled it, and used the "in case of emergency" super duper dishwasher cleaner and started the cycle to clean it
Replaced special bulb in annoying living room ceiling fan light
Cleaned annoying living room ceiling fan light, which was embarrassingly dusty despite being on constantly
Spent money I know I'm getting reimbursed for through a work program on fitness/sporting items that could be very fun if I get off my ass in the late spring & teach my kid how to kayak, so we can learn how to magnet fish together
Cleaned the dishwasher filter again
Started a load of dishes as it's working fine now
Guess what I hate doing above all else?
Folding laundry
Guess what I didn't do in the midst of all that activity?
Fold laundry

Oof... I've been hyperfocusing on dremel carving the entire day, sans the compulsory breaks enforced by mom, and my body does feel like it 😖
Although it is a bit hilarious to snap out of the hyperfocus, even momentarily, and immediately realize you're thirsty, hungry, achy and need to pee right this instant, while a moment ago you didn't notice any of that.
Also, look at the tiny goblet I made :D
