ADHD makes a lot of day to day tasks very difficult, including preparing and eating food yea.
First of all, we can struggle to realize we are feeling hungry. Used to happen to me a lot when younger.
Secondly, cooking can be very hard with executive dysfunction. Multiple steps and having to pay constant attention to the pots and pans can be hard.
And that's if you have the spoons for it.
Thirdly, we can get bored/ can be sensitive to specific tastes and textures. This makes finding and eating food hard.
Fourthly, stimulants can suppress ones appetite, so it can be harder to eat when on meds. Its not uncommon to lose weight.
.
When I moved out for uni, I lost like 15 kilos. I would eat a sandwich a day sometimes and for a 6 month stretch, I hate a loaf of garlic bread for dinner.
It took me a while to get into the swings of this. I found that I really love the taste of chili so I learnt to make a big batch and have that for whatever meal.
I can have it with rice, pasta, in a wrap, etc etc.
And it's nice cause I look forward to eating it. Like I legitimately made a pot 2 days ago, and I keep wanting to eat cause I love the taste.
And to avoid getting bored, I change it up. Add different vegetables and stuff.
Here's my chili recipe. I wrote it for myself, so it's simple to follow.
.
If anyone has any other tips, please share!

I need another list of super-easy food to consume when I’m too tired or depressed or unorganized. I can’t find the one I reblogged last year or whenever. What’s your favorite post/link?
1) a good one here - https://www.tumblr.com/fiti-vation/139291124325
text of same post but with broken images here - https://www.cosmopolitan.com/food-cocktails/a41173/what-to-eat-when-you-have-no-food-at-home/
(no food shaming, special diets are ok)

ok gamers time for my yearly post
eating! if u have an adhd, a autism, a ed or any sort of disorder that makes feeding urself difficult! here is an advice!
make shopping list!! infinite shopping list for ur safest foods that make you comfortable!!
this isnt "lists of food i dont have but want" this is "lists of good foods"
a good time to do this is when you have a fully stocked kitchen, so you can just take a wander and write down the things you see!
if youd like to take a gander at mine, here it is atm (work in progress)
Tumblr media
this isnt things i can always get, but its things for me to consider when at the shops and brain empty no thoughts! bc adhd is usually underprepared and impulsive!!!

ADHD is pretty great because sometimes you get stuck on an obsessive food, but can’t seem to get over it because there’s no other food that hits the same until you find the next food that hits even better and next thing you know at lunch you’ve been eating four slices of cheese for three months straight

Smoothie recipe
Ingredients:
—half a frozen banana. Or two quarters. Idc. Fuck it, the banana could maybe even be room temp
—handful of frozen power greens. Or spinach . For the nutrients. (also the “that girl” aesthetic lmao)
—the rest of the space with frozen mango chunks (you could, theoretically, add pineapple. But I am allergic)
—generous drizzle of honey to cancel out the taste of spinach
—MORE THAN HALF orange juice*
Step 1: gather ingredients
Step 2: put ‘em in there in the order specified on the ingredient list
Step 3: blend that bad boy up
Step 4: put the frozen stuff away
Step 5: Enjoy!!
Step 6: wash dishes ig
Step 7: there is no step 7. Beyond step 6, I have no fucking idea what you should be doing. Do something cool though
*this is REALLY IMPORTANT. if you do not add enough juice, the mixture will be too thick, and you will break the blender

I have been really struggling trying to find something to consume as "breakfast." (Breakfast is in quotes because i am doing a fasting program right now so I don't eat until noon).
I got these from walmart - they are around $7 for 4 of them. They actually taste great and there isn't a weird gritty after taste. They have a ton of flavors too. I prefer coffee flavored stuff. They also don't hurt my very sensitive stomach.
I just wanted to share because I know a lot of people struggle with food ick too.

My second attempt at an omelette actually went pretty well.
It’s got purple onions, tomatoes, purple cabbage, spinach, and turkey bacon. Plus some tater tots I put in the middle. With salsa, tapatio hot sauce and ketchup.
I’m still getting a hold of how to get the omelette shape lol but putting the tater tots in there and then squishing it and letting to cook together was the winning move lol.
As much as I don’t want to spend time in the mornings standing at the counter, chopping and cooking, I had made it easier on myself by pre-chopping cabbage and using medium on the vine tomatoes as they’re each the perfect size for a serving. And without the extra steps, I don’t have to worry and it becomes a sort of meditative act. And I ate a little outside and that’s always really nice and grounding.

I bought the lekue steam case again (lost the other one I guess) and omfggggg it makes cooking so easy. Just had the juiciest melt in your mouthiest chicken breast, perfectly cooked through, and it only took 3 minutes and 15 seconds to cook!!!
Literally the hardest part was packing the chicken breasts into little baggies, and seasoning it. It's about 2 minutes for 4 oz of chicken breasts (technically the manual says thighs, but in a recipe a chicken breast is nuked for 3 min), and mine was just under 8, like 7.5? The other chicken breasts are a bit bigger, so I might have to cut or smash them.
3 minutes might've been fine, but for some reason I can't remember, I popped it in for 2:45, chicken was a bit raw in the middle. Popped it in for a minute, but was worried it was going to overcook, so I stopped at 30 secs, and it was done. Perfect. Next time I'll stick with 3 minutes uninterrupted, and see how that goes.
My apartment smells so good!!! It also cooks veggies, so I'm excited to try that, too.
It's a bitch to clean, just cause how floppy it is, but I also have a full sink, so it might be easier if I could put it down.
I def recommend it for people who have a hard time cooking! It's a bit pricey, but a great investment. The cookbook is probably pirateable!

you know how people are always like, 'someone should write a cookbook that's actually easy'? i wrote it (amazon us link). i actually did it a while ago, but i finally got my shit together enough that it's widely available as both an ebook and a paperback, so i figured i'd mention it again.
Tumblr media
you can buy the ebook almost literally anywhere, including on amazon, kobo, indigo, thalia, booktopia, gumroad, and pretty much anywhere else you care to buy ebooks.
you can also buy a print book almost literally anywhere, including amazon, indigo, powells, waterstones, and basically any other bookseller.
this is a book for everybody, anywhere, who has limited, time, energy, or resources to make food. here's what i assumed:
you don't want to spend a bunch of time and energy cooking
you can't afford to eat nothing but takeout
you probably don't have access to Brands, because Brands are expensive and region locked.
you probably don't have a bunch of gadgets—there's no slow cookers or instant pots in this book
that's about it. there are vanishingly few measurements, and when there are, they're both imperial and metric. i'm from the us, but live in australia, and you can purchase 99% of the ingredients mentioned at the nearest supermarket in either country. when i was formatting this for print distribution, i also checked tesco and used my terribly bad german to check rewe to make sure this was as broadly accessible as possible, and they have basically everything, as well.
i wrote it for you. if you have more questions, you can see a couple sample recipes here and the answers to frequently asked questions here. If that's not enough, my ask box is open.

Another day of “do I have adhd, or autism, or both, or do I just spend too much time on the websites that categorize all thoughts and behaviors as symptoms of some type of neurodivergence”
