Magnificent gold and enamel plique-à-jour pendant/brooch designed as a “Morning Glory”. It was once part of the collection of Ada Rehan, a popular actress of the late 19th century who starred in several Shakespearean plays.

I don't talk a ton about my job, but I teach high school theatre and coordinate the afterschool program.
We are doing a popcorn fundraiser: you buy it online, it ships right to you, and we get half the profits. All funds we receive go straight to putting on productions - just the rights to put on a show are incredibly expensive. We are a title 1 school, which means our budget isn't great to begin with, and that our community doesn't have a ton of disposable income to support us. These kids need theater, especially in our world today - it is a priceless coping skill for them.
I know times are tough for all of us and arguably money should be spent on better causes. But if you could at least share - so it reaches someone who can give, me and my kids would be forever grateful! Sharing on other platforms is also great!
Thanks in advance for any support you can provide!
Literally everyone: Blue Monday vs. West End Girls so cruel... this is torture, I can not decide 😭 😭 😭 😭 😭
Mostly everyone: [makes the same decision]
Me, god of synthpop, monitoring all the poll results: Guys, guys... go vote in Bizarre Love Triangle vs. Burning Down the House or Personal Jesus vs. Spin Me (Right) Round, because those polls are seriously close!
I didn’t notice this the first time I watched Leverage (or the sixth), but when I posted a GIF of Hardison last week I noticed something…
The line is adorable, the writing fantastic, but the big thing I noticed is YOU CAN SEE HARDISON. Aldis Hodge is lit up so you can see his face easily.
Here’s another GIF.
And another…
So, here’s the thing. In most shows black actors fade in the background. They’re lit incorrectly and the dark background combined with the dark skin means the character vanishes. Especially on shows with cops and a lot of white people.
Poor David Sinclair (Alimi Ballard) of Numb3rs is invisible in every night scene because he’s not lit up correctly.
Before the advent of colored TV there were more black actors. They were common almost. But with color came the problem that a dark background makes a fair skinned person stand out while making a darker skinned person vanish. The Hollywood solution was to stop hiring darker skinned people. (Not a good idea).
In the first GIF Hardison is in a darker room. He should have vanished, they back-lit him, had ground lights, and framed him well.
Same with the second on, notice the light on his head. He’s glowing like an angel.
Third GIF… notice the lamp placement? The light almost washes out the color of the green towel behind Hardison, but it means the viewers see him perfectly. And isn’t that really the goal?
lotta votes here, but I find this interesting. For many types of people, too much soap and hot water is bad for your skin and hair. It dries them out, etc.
I used to shower weekly, and I wiped my face every day. Always clean underclothes. That's when my body was on estrogen, and I just didn't smell bad for at least 6 days unless I did something very athletic. (in which case I shower early.)
Now I'm on testosterone, and all my skin is more oily. I clean my face twice a day (gently, but it has to be done,) and I shower every 3-4 days. (again, depending on activity.) I use the mildest shampoo I could find and a very nice conditioner because my hair is bleached and dyed. It seriously dislikes being shampooed too much. That part hasn't changed.
Showers are a nice part of a routine if they help you wake up in the morning or relax at night, but you probably don't need to wash your hair every time or use the scouring soap.
