I saw this and I had to share as it's been about a month since my diagnosis of Addisons Disease and it has been a struggle but last Thursday I ended up getting Tonsillitis (typically over the bank holiday weekend when the drs were shut but when I finally got an appointment is when I realised that now just having Tonsillitis isn't just having Tonsillitis anymore. . . So let me explain why! And not only why I feel I need to create awareness not to just "normal" people but also to medical professionals!! As the one I saw had absolutely no clue about Addisons and clearly neither did the on call Dr 😱 . . So after the Dr said I had Tonsillitis I said to her I have Addisons Disease and she looked at me like I had just slapped her across the face 😂 (no joke) and I said do I need to take a double dose of my steroids once again she looked at me in confusion 😳 and said I will check with the on call Dr. The on call Dr said no stay with the same dosage! THIS IS INCORRECT INFORMATION AND COULD HAVE SENT MY BODY INTO CRISIS!! . . Luckily I remembered the nurse mentioning about sick day rules so I asked in a support group I'm in and they was so annoyed I was told that as I would of ended up in hospital. Then a friend who also has Addisons Disease quickly messaged me to say I must double dose for the whole course of antibiotics as the dose we originally take is only enough for our bodies to function and isn't enough for our bodies to fight an infection or handle any kind of stress so my body would of ended up in crisis and I would of ended up in crisis or dead! This is why medical professionals should know more about it and more funding needs putting into research! I found this ... and it really resonates with me and i bet a lot of fellow suffers with Eating Disorders !!! Recovery is hell because you are going against everything that your Disorder is telling you too do. Its much more than food or supplements!!! Or units of Energy I’m trying not to use the C word and not the swear word, because I know it upsets a lot of people especially a very special young women ... and you know who you are !! It’s all the destructive behaviours and abuse of things that literally destroy your body !! I know in May 2015 my Large Bowel Perforated, Medical term for blew a hole in it due to years of prolonged Laxative Abuse !! I ended up having my whole large bowel removed and a Stoma fitted !! I had it for 2 years until they reversed it and I have had Nothing but problems since and a subsequent 5 more Emergency surgeries!!! My Pancreas is destroyed from being so underweight for so many years , Kidneys , Liver , Heart , Bones and Even my Brain has been affected. Hey y'all. This is my dog Reggie. He is the most important person in my life.

Reggie was recently diagnosed with Addisons Disease. It's a rare disease where the adrenal glands don't make/release hormones like they should. He had stopped eating and all he did was lay around. He's an old man by dog standards (almost 13), but he's never quite let go of his puppy spirit so it was an incredibly drastic and frightening change.

The disease was very costly to treat and diagnose. We were at the vet nearly every day for a week having tests done, getting fluids, and other treatments. Since then there have been many other visits for treatment and follow up. He also now must take daily medication get monthly shots in order to live.

Also while getting treatment the vet discovered a heart murmur. They did some additional testing and he has heart disease. They expect him to go into heart failure within the next year. We are doing some more testing to see if we can do something to extend his time.

As I'm sure most of you are aware, vet bills can be quite costly. I've charged everything and maxed out a credit card. I'm trying to raise money to pay it back. I would appreciate you sharing and donating if you can.

Autoimmune conditions can cause even more problems through treatment. Sometimes the treatment is as bad or worse than the initial disease. I have secondary adrenal insufficiency. This is caused by glucocorticoid steroid use to treat very severe asthma and very severe atopic disease. Even a little bit of stress can completely wipe me out, because my body doesn't make enough of the hormones needed to cope with it. I struggle to get out of bed a lot of the time. I suffer physical pain from the steroid withdrawals. My body feels like lead half the time and getting up and doing things is more effort than I can manage. But I can breathe, so that makes it "okay" according to a lot of health care professionals. But it's not okay. I'm trading one problem for another. Just because someone looks totally fine but seems lazy or not contributing as much, doesn't make that true. Last month was 12 years since my #duodenalswitch with #biliopancreaticdiversion. I went from 300, pounds to 137 in less than two years. Then I was diagnosed with multiple autoimmune diseases and the steroids over the years to try to manage my symptoms caused me to gain- I was back up to 230 pounds last year. I've lost over 60 pounds in the past year and need surgery on my stomach. Again. So I can actually swallow food and not puke daily. I was 24 in the first photo. I'm 40 now..... I dunno how to feel about this. Sure losing weight is great and better for my rheumatoid arthritis but I'm miserable and sick often.
