I'm afraid I have some bad news about Harriet.

Yesterday morning when I got the budgies up, I noticed that she wasn't able to use her right foot. (The picture attached was taken before she lost the use of her foot.) I thought that maybe she and Pippa had had a fight, or that she had injured it in some way, so I toweled her and gave her some of Pippa's leftover pain meds and looked at her foot. There wasn't any visible sign of injury, but she was definitely unable to move her toes. By an unbelievable stroke of luck, my vet had an opening at 2pm, so I took Harriet in to get looked at.

Unfortunately, the prognosis is not good. The vet found a significant amount of bruising in Harriet's abdomen, indicating that she likely has some kind of organ dysfunction that is resulting in pressure being put on the nerves that control her right foot. The most likely causes, according to the vet, are either kidney cancer or reproductive disease. Because budgies are so small, and because of Harriet's age (she's 9) and relative fragility (since she's already had surgery for reproductive issues), the vet isn't confident she would survive the major surgery required to determine the problem, and the odds are there wouldn't be an effective treatment anyway.

So the decision has been made to try to keep Harriet comfortable with anti-inflammatory pain meds and in a hospital cage until her quality of life declines enough that it will be kindest to euthanize her. She is still allowed out with the other budgies, so she's not totally isolated, and as of this morning she is still eating well, destroying toys, and being very active and vocal (her wonky foot doesn't slow her down at all!), so right now she's doing well. She has already outlived all my other past budgies by three years (!!!), so although of course I will be heartbroken to say goodbye to this little fierce warrior, I am grateful for whatever time we have left.

Seems like he has a good day today. Had a few bad days previously. But he's more active again now. (weirdly he's way better without the meds I got from the vet). It's a little up and down. But as long as he feels good while chilling and enjoys food, it's fine. And we are getting used to the new circumstances.

Maya is a bit unsure about him, she gets spooked or annoyed sometimes because he is moving uncoordinated at times. Rabbits instincts be like that. But glad she's still staying close to him now and then and not fully ignoring him.

Welp, here I am again with a sick cat. As much as I hate having to do this--pride, it sucks--I need help paying off an emergency vet bill, plus provide cardiological care for my beloved cat, Skinny. Details are in the fundraiser information.

We just lost our old cranky girl cat Ollie on March 31, 2023, and in trying to make her comfortable and then having to put her to sleep we used what little bit of money we had saved up. Now Pumpkin needs to get his kidneys flushed to have any chance to save them.

Please help us extend his life and make him more comfortable

He was seemingly doing really well yesterday but today he is too weak to walk steadily which is why it needs to be today. He's not hurting but he's weak. Once he realized I had some scrambled egg and ice cream for him though he was excited to move. This boy is so happy to have his favorite foods still.

This is Kaien, my rescue HuskyMal<3 he has been the most tolerant and loving boy! I don't usually make posts like this but my cat isn't doing good. We took him to the vet today and found out he either has dental disease or cancer. We're having trouble affording care for him. We can't find out what it is because the test to find out is 250 bucks. Please spread and share this as much as you can. Walter and I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much!

It's Orzo's 12th birthday...

This is the last birthday I'll have with him. He had a rough month - an illness and ulcer he recovered well from, but then a seizure during a veterinary procedure at his recheck, and then a horrible reaction to a medication he was prescribed after, which might have caused organ damage. I don't think he has more than a week left.

This one is hard. He surpassed the typical life span for a budgie (5-10 years), but he was also still healthy and active, and different treatment choices could have led to a different outcome. I knew he could decline at any time, but I also wasn't expecting it so soon, based on his condition up until now.

He's still the toughest budgie in the world, and my favorite blue mofo. I probably won't post an update. I just wanted to say I love him, and I'm glad I got to be with him this long.

Dwight and his siblings were born at a time of great struggle and uncertainty for me in my life, and I have bonded greatly with each of them deeply, maybe even more than usual because of it..

Seeing Dwight jr fall ill so suddenly without a chance to recover or time for me to even make a vet call or appointment and feeling so helpless for someone so small that I love so dearly was tragic too say the least.

I miss him, I know the rest of the ratty family misses him.

My love reminded me of how lucky Dwight jr. Was, to have a full and rich life, to go for walks with us and all the snacks he got to try and he got to meet his sons before he past as well, I feel fortunate to have a partner that thinks to remind me of uplifting memories and facts when I am in need of something to feel more positive about.

I am so thankful to have gotten the time I did with my sweet Dwight Jr. I’m sure this is not the last post I will make talking about how I’m feeling and what happened.

I love you sweetheart, my sweet boy.

I love you Dwight Jr. may you eat all the snacks in ratty heaven and may you have all the space in the world to gallop. See you later on I hope.

Continued edit: Sebastian passed away on March 18th. The money that didn't go to vet bills has gone to his end of life care.

I genuinely think this might be the hardest post I will ever have to write. I have been trying to stay positive and keep hoping for the best, but I can't pretend like my cat isn't sick after this last week. And I am so scared. He's my best friend in the whole wide world. (As I tell him often "My sweetheart, my darling, my love, the light of my life, the wind beneath my winds and in my sails, I love you more than there are stars in the sky, fish in the sea, and atoms in the universe. I have never loved or will love anything more than I love you." Followed usually by "You absolute pest." or "Get up!")

I am apparently incapable of writing this in one go because I can't stop crying. Christ.

For the moment, there is an estimate of $1200 to do the biopsy on his liver (they need to confirm whether it is liver cancer before anything else). This includes ultrasound, x-rays, medications, and having it sent off to the lab. And I can't afford it. Plain and simple. So, I come asking for help. Because I don't want to lose my cat for being poor. It's not fair to him. He's 10, and I promised him that he'd be a fat cat in his late teens before we had to worry.

I don't want to make one of those donation posts where I can't give anything in return. Because I feel like I should show my gratitude somehow. I don't have the ability to draw or paint or anything like that. I have decent sewing skills, and I can write. It isn't much in terms of repayment, but it's all I can offer along with my eternal gratitude and a little bit longer with my best friend.

one of my babies is sick since a few days or probably longer, since buns hide pain unfortunately...

pretty sure he has arthritis, he can't use is hind legs properly anymore. informed myself on a rabbit health website. since i have money issues i had to try home remedies for now as first aid... gave him ginger which is basically natural anti inflammatory med. it helped surprisingly well and fast! he's back on is feet walking, still wobbly but less aggressive too (side effect of the hidden pain). yesterday he stopped eating, not sure if that's connected he just sometimes denies food when he is stressed. but i force fed him, now he finally eats on his own again.

anyways, still going to the vet tomorrow for meds and hopefully more advice to make this grandpas life better again 😔

UPDATE:

Vet visit went well. It's spondylosis so my guess wasn't that far away. It's basically the same category of issues and treatment. He is getting meds and pain killers now and I should continue giving him ginger as well. And warm pillow now and then. Unfortunately he has to take the meds till the end of his life but that's fine. It's not that expensive.

He also demonstrated on the vet table that he's still capable of peeing just fine 👍

My Ravioli id very ill and I don't know if he pulls through. There's fluids in his lung and he can't eat. He's the most precious thing in my life. I raised him with a little bottle. He's my everything. My baby.

Hey folks sorry I've been so quiet. I've been just focusing on spending Tzapo's days with him as much as possible.

And today is the day. I have an appointment set for this afternoon. We will be putting him down in a couple of hours.

Please send good, healing thoughts for our precious furbaby, Viv, who had to stay in our local animal hospital overnight (and may be there there for another day or two, depending on how the treatments and ultrasound go).
