A long post about Rthstewart
Something @rovinglemon and I were talking about while facetiming and watching Prince Caspian - her on the TV and I on my ipad in my little dormroom - was how @rthstewart's Narnia series is what we believe as canon.
I've always felt a sense of detachment from Narnia, like I, as an autistic woman do not belong in that world. How easily my fate could become that of Susan's if my belief in Aslan so much as wavers an inch from the imaginary line Narnians must tread. I'm an atheist partly because of my own experiences and disbelief in the non-tangible. However, I do believe in ghosts and the paranormal because of fiction and my work on The Great War.
But reading @rthstewart's Stone Gryphon series and her side novels set during the golden age of Narnia made me feel like I could have a place within that world. @rovinglemon agrees, and we've discussed at length also how Rth's works take the existing canon and with the sheer mind-boggling level of detailed research she's done, makes Narnia something wholly alive. The world is not static because it is so completely tangible that I return to it time and time again. It's become how I relax after working on essays for my midterms and studying. Every time, without fail, I pick up the page or chapter that I'm on, and I am lost to the world around me. Her writing is so incredibly well written that it is often hours before I can be torn away from her stories. It is in her writing of Morgan especially that I find myself at home as an autistic person. Her mannerisms are similar to mine and Rth's evident care and research in writing Morgan's character as an autistic person shines through so well that I have yet, and doubt that I will find any fault in her portrayal, which is something so many altistic writers struggle with, especially headliners such as Mark Haddon either flat-out ignore, or attempt to rationalize their grevious misdeeds behind the NYT's Bestseller list.
Rth's writing of the Four also must be commended. RL mentioned on our call about how Peter's intelligence as shown through Rth's writing is a different kind to Edmund's or Susan's. Sword (in the Rat and Crow code), is less about the boy-against-boy blindsided idiocy that Prince Caspian sets front and center stage, and instead makes the Four - Sword, Rat, Crow, and Heart, into people fundamentally struggling to survive in a world that will never understand them. Their maturity in the bodies of children sets them apart, and it shows in the best of ways, whether they reign as Kings and Queens, or exist in what I call their "English Exile," that they are flawed people who question Aslan's greater plan, but are fundamentally trying to make the world both a better place and answer to the creed as Friends of Narnia.
So to @rthstewart, I raise my glass to you, and look forward to whatever next you plan to be writing.

How does the Links' next haircut go? (Servo+, with a little off the top)
It probably says something to how normal these sorts of questions are to this blog that I didn't even blink at the complete non sequitur that this Ask is. It is just now occurring to me how very, very random this is
Anyways
Gen gets a trim for split ends because Skyloft has a barber, Midna tricks Dusk into going to a groomer (and his hair when he transforms back is amazing), Ocarina has forgotten to get a haircut for seven years and counting, Mask just sorta grabs his hair in one hand and does it himself and then hides the uneven ends under his hat, Wind goes to his Grandma and comes out perfectly coiffed every time, the Four haven't had a haircut since they split and are desperately hoping their hair isn't too hopeless underneath their hats, and Speck's hair is being constantly monitored by Ezlo (who has opinions about the softness and length of hair he's placed upon and has absolutely no qualms about fussing at it with his beak until he's satisfied)

fun fact: despite Vonderv looking pig-like and looking like he’s missing a pig snout, he does indeed have his very own little nose! it’s just more of a Krillin thing lol

As I stepped through the door, I heard a deep soft voice from the next cell. "What, Symphe? Not even a hello? Coultrie, you should wash your face. You look ridiculous. Fellowdy, have you no youngster to bugger today? Ah, and here is Capra. I see you have washed the blood off your hands for this visit. How formal of you."
Not a one of them flinched or responded. I was within my cage and couldn't peer into the next one but I wondered who it was who so boldly challenged the Four. Then the first guardswoman shut the barred door with a clang. Each guard stepped forward to turn a key and remove it, and then present it to their master or mistress.
"Child," Capra said abruptly. "Tell me your name and your father's name."
I had rehearsed it. "I am Bee Badgerlock, of Withywoods. My father is Holder Tom Badgerlock. He manages the sheep and the orchards and the grounds for Lord FitzChivalry. Please, just let me go home!"
Her eyes were flat. I hadn't lied, not at all. I looked at her earnestly.
Without a farewell or words of any sort, they all walked away. From the next cell, I heard that soft voice again. "Eleven adults to lock up one little child. Are they right to fear you?"
I dared no response. They might ignore him, but I thought they might come back to beat me. Clutching my bundle, I surveyed my cell. There was a pot for waste in the corner, and a low bedstead with a straw-stuffed mattress with a single blanket of undyed wool at the foot of it. The back wall of my cell was of lacy white stone; the openings that let in air and light were shaped like leaves and flowers and seashells. I tried my hand in one. It could fit and I could reach all the way through to the outer wall. The wall was as thick as my hand and forearm. These cells would be unpleasant in winter, I thought to myself. Then I wondered if winter even came to this region, and whether I would live long enough to see it.

Phantom Anon. Speck and the Four, being the only Links that can exist at roughly the right scale, manage to get themselves stuck in a Pikmin game of your choice. What happens?
I'm gonna stick them in 3, because it strikes me as the least stressful, somehow.
Of course, they befriend the Pikmin immediately. Speck is arguably the Pikmin's favorite. There's no real way to tell, of course, but the fact that he can just. Ask them to do something. And they'll do it, eagerly, without any whistling required? Seems like a hint.
On Speck's side of things, his Jabber Nut is doing just enough of a translation job that he can halfway understand the Pikmin. He's forgotten to mention this out loud, because it doesn't seem all that important, but he knows when they're asking for something and will do his best to get it to them. This may or may not be the reason that he is, arguably, the favorite.
The Four, meanwhile, feel uncomfortable with having these little creatures do everything for them, and will actively pitch in to carry whatever it is that needs carrying. They earn themselves a reputation among the Pikmin as 'the weird but really strong ones' and eventually some of the Pikmin start using the Four as a ride. A Red Leaf even took a nap on them once.
The fact that both Speck and the Four could resize, at any time, is something that they collectively agreed to not show the Pikmin.

The constant rolling disaster that is Overwatch's game development aside, what really perplexes me about how Blizzard is handling the broader franchise is their continual insistence that a canon narrative exists in spite of their equally continual refusal to tell anyone what it is.
Like, okay, the events of the games aren't canon. Fair enough: the games are multiplayer-only, and you can't account for player actions.
Oh, and the animated short films aren't canon either – they're properly understood as in-universe propaganda, not depictions of actual events. That's a little high concept for you guys, but fine.
But surely the comics are canon, right? Well, no; some of the comics (we're not telling you which ones) were canon at one point, but the writing team has decided to go in a different direction.
My dudes, what is left? The weird Source Filmmaker porn? Is that canon? Well, apparently it's at least as canon as anything else!
