Well, good news! Since RGBV is intact and still a whole four pieces of Link, this is not nearly as tragic as it could have been!
But only by about... twelve percent.
In the absence of Speck's impeccable emotional intelligence, Red picks up the slack. He also successfully drags the other three down with him, so that's about a week or so of crying. The reason it's an entire week is because all the people who would usually be pushing for a Revenge Plan are... no longer available.
However, the reason that the crying doesn't last longer than a week is because around Day 5 or so, Blue starts getting angry. Admittedly it takes another two or three days for him to get the others properly motivated with him, but once he does? Oh boy.
Green and Vio, when not on the same mental wavelength, are decent planners on their own; Vio a bit more so than Green. But put together? And with this sort of cause to drive them? They're positively vicious.
Combine this with Blue's eager need to hit something and Red's newly invented and absolutely debilitating Crying Puppy Face, and RGBV are officially on a warpath with some astonishingly effective weapon-strategies in tow.
They may only be four parts of one person, but that just means that their enemies underestimate them. It'll be the last thing said enemies will ever do.

Red claims nickname privileges, which is a completely different thing. But also, he claims privilege for Link and alternate versions of Link. Dogs are not (usually) Link, so Gecko gets a pass!
Dusk walks home with a dog. What happens and who gets to name it? (Servo, petting a good dog)
It takes him an extra thirty minutes to make the walk home, because people keep stopping and asking if they can pet his dog. Of course he says yes, because who is he to deny a dog pets? But maybe he should not bring this dog to places that he needs to get to in a hurry... just as a future mental note.
Oni claims rights to naming the dog in exactly the same way he named Fish the kitten. "We shall name her Gecko," he declares, and he sounds so confident about it that nobody bothers to argue with him.

When you were giving the characters curse forms I was trying to guess who would be what before they were revealed (and let me tell you, I got almost none of them right)
I sorta thought that realm was gonna be a horse, partly because of his running ability, partly because of an older tumblr post (‘dismounts horse to grab a pumpkin’ ‘horse is already halfway across the world in a ditch’ ‘is this about Minecraft, legend of Zelda, Skyrim, or real life’ ‘yes’), but mostly because I wanted to see Steam’s reaction to seeing a horse for the first time. I still hope we can see that one day.
Anyway love your work, have a great day!
You know, I suppose he would have fit for a horse, kinda? But also, I used to ride, and in every way except the running Realm does not fit for a horse.
He's far too easygoing, for one. I once rode a horse who pitched a fit because the layer of blanket underneath the saddle was folded wrong. And by 'wrong' I need you to understand that it was oriented backwards from how this horse preferred it. As in, the folded side was facing the back instead of the front.
She nearly threw me off because of this. Literally because she did not like how the blanket was folded. I repeat, she tried to throw me off because of this.
Didn't settle until I dismounted and fixed it. Dramatic darling.
Anyways, I know too much about horses to assign one to Realm as a Curse-kin form. Shadow though, he's dramatic enough to be a horse.
Now if only Shadow were able to be Twilight-Cursed. Tragic.

This. This is flawless. Gecko is exactly as adorable as she deserves to be.

Have you read Mistborn? If so, what would the Chain think of Wax's or Kelsier's groups?
If not, um... have a book recommendation!
Sadly, I must inform you that I have not read Mistborn. I'm aware of Mistborn, and of Brandon Sanderson, but I have not read a single thing he's written.
I'll take the recommendation though. Luckily there's a library within walking distance where I live so I'll see when I've got time!

Hi! Anontie here! Can Red’s puppy dog eyes out-cute an actual puppy?
Hmm. At the moment...
Depends on the puppy. Italian Greyhound, yes.
Beagle? Nope. Red takes notes on the beagle puppy's eyes, they really seem too large to fit in this little creature's face???
But eventually, when Red masters and weaponizes his Adorable Puppy Face, then yes. He will out-cute all puppies.

Nuclear Anon here! The Broken Chain asks have made me sad, so to bring balance back I'm asking about doubling Links.
So: what would happen with the addition of Wind from his first adventure?
Okay I'm gonna clarify what I think you're asking before going to answer it, that way if I'm wrong then you can tell me, in another Ask, exactly where I lost the plot and then I can fix it! Or alternatively, you can congratulate me on getting it right the first go! Either are good!
So. You're wanting a Mask-and-Ocarina situation, but with Wind. As in, Wind-going-through-Wind-Waker alongside Wind-already-done-with-Wind-Waker-and-actively-doing-Phantom-Hourglass?
Well firstly, we probably need to rename Wind-doing-Phantom-Hourglass, so there's no confusion. Yes, I know this is the DL-canon Wind that I'm renaming, and no, I don't think this is more confusing. The Wind doing Wind Waker is Wind, and the Wind doing Phantom Hourglass is Phantom. We are using Mask-and-Ocarina logic here, folks.
The first question, clearly, is 'Which one of us broke time???' and the answer is probably Phantom, because he's the one with an actual time-manipulation device. Admittedly he's not sure how he did it, because he was told the Hourglass only works inside this One Specific Building, but... well the evidence points elsewhere. So. That's a thing they'll have to deal with, at some point, probably.
Phantom's not nearly as keen on preventing Spoilers as Mask is, although he will withhold some information for the sake of making sure his own present will still exist. But he considers dungeon advice and battle strategies to be free game. Wind is absolutely writing all of this down.
In comparison to the Hero(es) of Time, Wind and Phantom are still remarkably close to being the same person, just with bit of a differing attitude between them. Phantom is a bit more measured in his approach to things; he gives off a very mellow vibe. He knows when there's urgency to a situation but rushing in is going to get him nowhere. Preparation is key. Meanwhile Wind is patient when he needs to be, but has an underlying sort of manic energy driving him. His sister! Needs saving!! As soon as possible!!!
And this is why Wind got his entire butt handed to him at the Forsaken Fortress by charging in before he was ready. Except replace 'was ready' with 'had any sort of combat training at all.' Phantom's not about to make that sort of mistake again, thanks very much. This is the one area where they clash a little bit, because Wind sees a problem that needs urgent fixing and Phantom seems a problem that needs deliberate preparation.
They're also, for all intents and purposes, almost completely identical. They get away with a lot of pranks on the rest of the Chain because of this.

Well, it's time to send Changeling on a research binge again-
The Chain ends up in the World of Darkness universe and promptly meets the local Link and his Hunter cell, made up of the local Zelda, Midna, and Zant. Along the way, they learn that the local Ganondorf is a thousands-of- years old vampire, the local Mido leads a very violent werewolf pack, and that the local population really doesn't get to see all this. What happens?
I have read so much backstory to answer this.
Two conclusions. One: so this is where that Changeling the Lost thing from a previous ask came from!
Two: it makes sense that I have never investigated this franchise before, because I do not like horror. And this is... very much that.
Therefore. The Chain, being very confused, and also having learned more than one lesson in the past about immediately trusting the people who say they're your allies (looking at you, Byrne), immediately take about five figurative steps back from the situation and start analyzing.
One week of analysis later, their conclusions are as follows.
-Ganondorf is claiming to be a second-generation vampire, whatever that means, but it does seem to get him a lot of authority in his own vampiric sphere. All his turned vampiric followers are female, which could mean several uncomfortable things that the Links are not going to think very hard about. On the other hand, all of his victims are... indiscriminate. To put it nicely.
-He seems to think that vampires ought to rule the world. He also seems to think that he himself is a fantastic candidate for World-Ruler. He also doesn't seem to think that revealing the existence of vampires in order to subjugate said world is all that big a deal.
-This is causing problems with Mido, who aside from everything else is quite set on all creatures remaining unseen and unknown. On first glance, this seems like a better option than Ganondorf.
-On second glance, Mido is willing to murder any number of bystanders, human or otherwise, in order to keep this secret. He is maybe... not a better option than Ganondorf.
-Meanwhile, the local Link is running a faction dedicated to protecting the humans and innocent bystanders, which finally seem like the one good option in this place.
-...But on second glance, he's also willing to murder any number of creatures, vampiric or lycanthropic or otherwise. Which is, again, not really a better option. Surely somebody in this place is at least a little bit opposed to murder?
-Oh wait. It's the Chain. The Chain is opposed to murder.
-Welp.
-Time to create a fourth faction they guess.

Phantom Anon. Speck and the Four, being the only Links that can exist at roughly the right scale, manage to get themselves stuck in a Pikmin game of your choice. What happens?
I'm gonna stick them in 3, because it strikes me as the least stressful, somehow.
Of course, they befriend the Pikmin immediately. Speck is arguably the Pikmin's favorite. There's no real way to tell, of course, but the fact that he can just. Ask them to do something. And they'll do it, eagerly, without any whistling required? Seems like a hint.
On Speck's side of things, his Jabber Nut is doing just enough of a translation job that he can halfway understand the Pikmin. He's forgotten to mention this out loud, because it doesn't seem all that important, but he knows when they're asking for something and will do his best to get it to them. This may or may not be the reason that he is, arguably, the favorite.
The Four, meanwhile, feel uncomfortable with having these little creatures do everything for them, and will actively pitch in to carry whatever it is that needs carrying. They earn themselves a reputation among the Pikmin as 'the weird but really strong ones' and eventually some of the Pikmin start using the Four as a ride. A Red Leaf even took a nap on them once.
The fact that both Speck and the Four could resize, at any time, is something that they collectively agreed to not show the Pikmin.

in the spirit of the broken chain posts, what do you think would happen if Ocarina or Mask ended up dying?
-Okay, this is a little complicated, but some of this has been Asked and answered already, so I'm gonna do my best to compile it for you here.
This is a post where Mask is the one who's dead
-There's a couple snippets from an Ask where someone wanted each Link put into Wraith's position. It's not exactly what you're asking for here, but it fits, so I'll line them up below:
"Ocarina: his dead future is haunting him, oh Din-"
"Mask: his dead past is haunting him oh Din-"
-And there's another snippet from an Ask where someone wanted to know what might happen if the Downfall Timeline and also Ocarina suddenly ceased to exist, which again - not exactly what you're asking for, but it fits. Once again, lined up below:
"In that specific scenario which you're describing, what I think you're saying is that the Downfall Timeline becomes moot? In which case we'd also be losing Lore, Sketch, and Realm, but we're focusing specifically on Ocarina here, so. Mask goes mildly feral, everyone else is basically right behind him because Ocarina deserves to live too, and meanwhile Farore is all but throttling Nayru because they did not spend all this effort fixing the timeline to erase a full third of the Heroes who did the fixing and the Time Goddess needs to do something about this-"
-Now if I'm right, this should give you all the answers you're hoping for! But if not, poke me again and tell me what details you wanted, please

Hi! Anontie here! Just wanted to ask, if the Links got an animal mascot, what would it be and would it jump in to “protect” them at times
For some reason - and I have no idea why my brain went here - my first and immediate response was, "Well they've got a frog, of course."
I cannot justify this. I don't understand why their mascot would be a frog. All I know is that it makes sense in my own head and I am physically unable to put the reason why it makes sense into words.
That said, of course the frog jumps to protect them. It's made for jumping! The protecting part is a bit less doable but that's not stopping this frog from trying!

…………. Have you done “only Gen left” for the Broken Chain? Or all four of either RGBV or The Four? (I know people have asked about separating the Four or RGBV, but what about if all four were still alive?)
—Random Anon
I feel like these are two separate questions entirely. Since Gen was first, I'm going to assume that you're more interested in him. But if you are interested in the Four or RGBV, poke me again
Gen is handling things about as well as could be expected: which is to say, not at all. But - and this is very important - he's had loved ones ripped away from him before. Admittedly, it was his Zelda, and she was fine in the end, but the point is that he knows how to take his emotions and channel them into action.
Is this healthy? Probably not. Is he actually processing anything? Who knows. Is this very, very ironic given that he was the medic? Oh absolutely. But also, he was the medic. He had one job.
He failed.
But if he lets himself think about that he's going to break so MOVING ON! Revenge is good. Revenge will make him feel better. Conveniently he's got nothing left to lose, so hey! Time to make those villains regret ever laying a single finger on his family.
("Master, you are exhibiting signs of an unhealthy level of obsession. I have taken the liberty of procuring a place of safety, where you may grieve in private. I recommend that you visit as soon as possible.")
("...Yeah. Thanks Fi. Maybe... maybe later, okay?")
(Gen is barely holding on.)

Intentional obstructing of the law, by way of trying to prevent the above eleven from being arrested: Dusk, Oni, Sketch, Steam
Deliberately screwing with the law: Midna

Hi, it's me, Explodanon! I don't remember what exactly brought this on, but it occurred to me that Codex, Shadow, and Lore could make a very chaotic group together (I don't have a concrete idea of why I think this either, but I'm pretty sure it's their vibes). So, I wanted to ask you about potential shenanigans, because it'd be fun.
Oh yes, they would cause the absolutely maximum amount of chaos, if they were ever left unattended together. This is because the only one of them with even a hint of thought for the consequences of their actions is Lore, and even then it's not usually geared towards 'Is this a bad idea?'
It starts when Shadow decides to blow something up. Lore immediately suggests ways to make the explosion bigger. Codex contributes with a list of targets that have irritated him for whatever reason. It ends with the defamation of a National Monument and a literal chase sequence when the law authorities get involved. Someone hits a Cucco. The Fowlpocalypse descends. Above the chaos, the three troublemakers lounge on a roof and observe the fruits of their labor.
"...You think maybe we took this a little far?" Lore asks, eyeing the way that the Cuccos are swarming the governmental office buildings like so many ants on a pile of sugar.
"Nah," Shadow and Codex chorus.
"Besides," Codex adds, "it's funny."

if you don't mind answering, what happened between chapters 32 and 33?
Chapter 33 isn't out yet?
...unless you're coming from the FF.net version??? In which case, oh my gosh I'm so sorry, that must be immensely confusing.
I'm actively rewriting Chapter 33 to match up with Chapter 32. The reason it feels like there's an entire Boss Fight missing is... because there is. I'm writing it. It's not done yet.
Sorry again! But thank you for finding me to ask about it!
