[ACT I]: CHAPTER 1
Warning : slight mention of abuse from the parents.
Also Shirase Shirakawa is unofficially [name]'s voice claim. Her voice is just so cute.
youtube
[Name] smiled sheepishly before shrugging off their stare. She wasn't particularly fond of music. She learned it because her parents made her do it. She couldn't help but remember all the long days of training she had undergone.
The way both she and her brother were treated was genuinely different. Her older brother was relatively neglected because they didn't expect anything from him. She was treated like a golden child, and her parents had high expectations. She was jealous of her brother; no one forced him to do anything, and her brother disliked her because of the attention she received. Ultimately, the saddest part was how their parent’s love was only given if they could gain something from it.
The young girl was (in her mother's words) a beautiful baby. So, she became a baby model. Slowly, things and expectations started to pile up for her, and she learned to be the perfect child everyone wanted. Maybe that's why she kind of empathized with Riddle’s backstory.
“_Princess?”
[Name] blinked before looking at Aurelius, who seemed worried. He held her hand firmly and looked carefully at her face.
“_You don't have to sing for us if you don't want to.
_It’s okay. I was just wondering which song I should sing.”
She couldn't believe she was caught in her thoughts around others. Aurelius could see it was a lie but preferred to keep silent. Obviously, it was something personal. The young girl laughed softly before taking a deep breath. She slowly started to sing for the two boys. Her voice, soft and clear, resonated in the area, gathering the curious eyes of the other students.
"_Wow, it's so similar…"
Looking at her, a brown-haired boy looked at her among the students. He looked mesmerized by her voice. Like a princess from a fairytale. He couldn’t take his eyes off her.
"_Did you see that, Henry? She is great."
Henry turned toward his friends, who smiled while enjoying the deliciously sweet voice. Henry couldn’t help but think how much the princess nickname suited her. Henry smiled before leaving with his friends. This year will be interesting.
Just when she finished, she was almost tackled by Neige, who ran to her. The young idol laughed as his arm circled her waist. He prevented her from falling while giving her a cheeky smile.
“_I knew you were good at singing. You should have become an idol or a singer. You would be so popular.
_Hum, thank you. But it's useless if I'm to return to my world.
_But you may not return to your world soon. So why not?”
[Name] flinched as Neige realized what he just said. The boy apologized profusely for his insensitive words. The girl didn't want to think about that option, even more so when no solution was found in the game.
Neige knew he had said something awful. He didn't mean it, but the idea of her leaving left a bitter taste in his mouth.
“_I will think about it.
_ I'm sorry, princess. I didn't mean to hurt you like this.”
Neige wasn't wrong; returning to her world could take a long time. She didn't know when she would return. It could be tomorrow or in 5 years. She could also never return.  Strangely enough, she found herself content with that. She wouldn't miss her parents, and the only family she loved was missing for a long time. Maybe he was indeed gone. Should she let go of Yuu and start living for herself? [Name] remembered the last time they saw each other. They fought, and Yuu screamed at her about how much he hated her, and… She was not sure he would want to see her even if he was alive. He would be happier if she weren't in his life anymore.
Neige felt guilty for what he said. He shouldn’t have said that.
“_Then how about I invite you to a film set?
_Thank you, you don’t have to go that far.
_ No, I insist. I said something awful.”
[Name] nodded before saying goodbye to the two boys heading to their respective clubs. She followed Neige to his club.
“_Welcome to the music club! The club has six members with you. Let me introduce you to your clubmate. This is Rielle. He is the dorm leader of Oceanid.
_Nice to meet you. I’m the Prince Rielle. But please just call me Rielle.”
The red-haired boy talked while bowing; he had a flirty grin on his lips. The young girl could see the others cringe at his greeting. As friendly as he looked, he acted obnoxious. And from how the other acted, it wasn’t the first time. With a deep sigh, a tall man pushed Rielle to the side. He had deep purple hair and icy blue eyes.
“_I’m Mercury, from White Court dormitory; nice to meet you.
_[Name], Yamada [Name].
_Enchanté! Joli mademoiselle! I’m Candle Jr Rocktail. It's an honor to meet the rumored school princess.”
The next boy was a ginger. Although his hair was carefully combed, she could them spike up a bit.
“_Ali isn’t here today; he had a home emergency.
_ It’s okay, anyway, it’s nice to meet everyone.”
After becoming more acquainted with everyone, they decided to play something to see where they could put her in the band. Neige already played piano, so they opted for the violin… Until they heard her voice. It was decided that [Name] place was to be the lead singer. After doing one more song, they chatted a bit.
“_Oh, right, about the movie I’m acting in this weekend. My co-star is Vil Schoenheit, isn’t that great?
_Vil?”
Her ears perked at the familiar name.
“_Yes, he is another famous actor. Do you want to hear more about him?”
Ignoring the silent plea of her clubmates, [Name] nodded with a smile.
[Name] regretted that choice. She doubted her own judgment as she thought that her ears were maybe starting to bleed. She never expected this from Neige. Was it possible to know that much? There was even information unknown from the player, if not the developers themselves. Neige knew everything from the most mundane details to when he lost his first tooth. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to hear more or if that level of knowledge about a person was healthy. But for sure, she wanted him to stop now.

Don’t Worry I’ll Take Care Of It
Summary: Some creep broke into Yasmina’s apartment threatening to do horrible things to Yasmina so in a moment of adrenaline & past trauma she kills him. So now there’s a dead body in her apartment she’s freaking out & she needs to get rid of it so who else does she calls of course it’s Mr. White
Trigger Warnings: Mentions of past sexual assault, sexual abuse, description of murder & description of a dead body
Jay White x OC (Yasmina)
Tumblr media
“Why isn’t she answering?” Jay thought to himself he hasn’t got a single text or call from Yasmina since he dropped her off at her apartment earlier that night. This was unlike her Yasmina would always call Jay to tell him that she got to her apartment safely since she lived in the city’s more dangerous area or she would call him to tell him goodnight but she hasn’t done either. Jay didn’t want to ruin the vibes since the boys were successful from their recent job & were supposed to b celebrating but for the rest of the night Jay was drinking to try to relax himself & keep checking his phone just to see if Yasmina would call or text him. The boys were too drunk, high or trying to fuck to notice that he was stressed the only one who did notice was Tama Tonga. Tama noticed Jay sitting in the booth by himself drinking beer & constantly checking his phone over & over.
“Hey baby can you give me a sec?” Tama asked the pinked hair Mina Shirakawa which she agreed to allowing him go to check on Jay. “What’s wrong?” Tama sat down in the booth next to Jay knowing that something was wrong. “Nothing.” Jay said nonchalantly before taking a shot of whiskey but Tama wasn’t believing that for a second. “Jay what’s wrong?” Tama asked stern & seriously which would cause Jay to finally talk. “It’s Yas.” Jay told him which caused Tama to get concerned himself. “What’s the matter with sis?” Tama has grown to love & care about Yasmina like she was his little sister just like everyone else in Bullet Club. “I don’t know what it is but I have this feeling that something’s wrong & I can’t get rid of it.” Tama could tell that Jay was worried he was scared half to death Jay was never like this before so that’s how he knew that it was serious.
*Ring Ring Ring*
That’s when Jay’s phone start ringing & Jay quickly answered it to hear the voice of his sugar bunny, thank god he thought but still something was off she didn’t sound like her normal self, in reality she sounded like she was out of breath, crying & frantic. “Yasmina what’s wrong.” Jay asked more concerned than he was before. Tama was trying to hear the conversation but he couldn’t do to Yasmina talking to fast that he couldn’t understand what she was saying. He looked at Jay confused wanting to know what happened. “Baby it’s alright I’ll be there soon just wait outside your apartment.” Jay told her before he hung up & grabbed his jacket. “What the hell going on is she okay?” Tama asked Jay concern & confused & the look on Jay’s face didn’t make it any better. “Yas killed someone.” That was all Jay could say before telling Tama to get the rest of the boys so they could go to her apartment. Tama couldn’t believe it how could sweet & naive Yasmina kill someone?
Earlier that night Jay dropped Yasmina at her apartment before hanging out with the rest Bullet Club for the night. “You want me to walk you to your door?” Jay asked her that’s what he always did, he would always walk Yasmina to her door to make sure she got in safe & sound. “No Mr. White I’m a big girl I can walk myself I’ll be safe.” Yasmina smiled before grabbing her bag & jacket. “Thank you tho.” Yasmina kissed him on the cheek leaving her pink lipstick to stain his cheek which caused him to smile. “Alright I’ll see you tomorrow, love you.” Jay told her. “Love you too.” Yasmina answered back before he drove off & she walked to the way of her door, she had pepper spray in her left hand while holding her apartment key in her right & she got to her door safely just like she told Jay she would. She would safely walk into her apartment unharmed & not worried about anything but without her noticing someone was watching her & waiting for the perfect time.
As soon as Yasmina entered her apartment she would take off her shoes & jacket laying them on the couch before going to her bedroom & using the bathroom. When she did that’s when that creep watching her from moments ago had pick her lock to enter her apartment he closed the door quietly so she wouldn’t hear it. He walked quietly into her living room to take a look at the apartment that he’s been looking at for a while for a certain person from her past. He went over to the couch to pick up her jacket to smell it, his eyes rolled into the back of his head with pleasure for smelling her perfume & sense. Disgusting some people were just disgusting. That’s when he started to take pictures of her living room planning to send them to that same person that he was helping track Yasmina since she escaped him. That’s when he started to explore more throughout her apartment until he finally reached her bedroom. The creep smiled at the innocent looking room having sick & disgusting thoughts of what he could & was planning to do to her before taking her back to where she belonged… the United Empire. He went over to her drawer to find her Bunny Palace work schedule & decided to take a picture to send it to them later & went to the other drawer to find her panties. He picked them up the pink lace panties he smiled twisted like holding them in his hands, he couldn’t resist to smell him & fantasy about her.
“AHHHHHHHHHHH WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY APARTMENT!?” He turned around to see Yasmina wearing her pajamas after she got out of the shower she looked terrified & confused. That’s when the mean leaped towards her as she tried to get back into the bathroom to protect herself from him but it didn’t work he grabbed her by her arm. “NO LET GO OF ME.” She screamed crying trying to fight him off of her but he was too strong for her. “You’re not going anywhere.” The creep told her before he grabbed her by her waist hard enough to start bruising, which caused her to whimper in pain. He smiling against her neck & smelling before he tried to slip his hands down her shorts. That’s when she finally hard the strength to get out of his grasp before she ran away to her living room to get to the door & grabbing her phone. But that’s when the creep threw himself on top of her having her pinned underneath him causing her to struggle all over again. “How stupid are you! Did you really think you could keep running from them! From him!” The man screamed at her in her face causing her to cry.
*Flashback*
“God damn you are so stupid aren’t you?” Will told her who was crying & trying to get up.
“What don’t you get?” Will asked her before getting back down to her level which caused her to shake & cry even more.
“Will please.” Yasmina sniffled becoming more scared of what he’ll do to her again she was still hurting from it.
“You’re not going anywhere you have no one to go to, you need me if it wasn’t for me you’ll be out in the streets besides no one would believe you you’re a child. You’re mines your my property you belong to the United Empire, you belong to me.” Will told her before grabbing her by the face making her look up at him.
*End of Flashback*
That’s when something snapped inside of Yasmina, she knee him in the nuts causing him to fall back in pain & agony while he was in pain she grabbed the closest weapon near her which was a vase. She quickly grabbed the vase, got on top of him & started beating him with it.
*Bang Bang Bang*
The man tried to fight her off but there was no point he was losing badly he even started to bleed from his head due to the head trauma and he was starting to lose his strength & ability to stay awake but that what’s stopping her.
* Bang Bang Bang*
She couldn’t stop herself she just lost it hitting him over & over & over.
*BANG BANG BANG*
“AHHHHHHHHH!!!” She screamed in anger still hitting him with the vase until she the vase broke into his face & his head popped. That’s when she finally stopped & just looked at what she done. She looked around the living room to see the once nice, cleaned & beautiful living to be covered with blood from the carpet, floor, walls & even the ceiling. That’s when she looked at her hands to see blood & even some brain to have covered her hands and all over her once pink & white pajamas to be covered with blood as well as her hands, her feet & her face. That’s when she finally looked down to see the man’s face completely gone to be only covered with his own blood & having pieces of the vase in his face. While the top of his head was completely busted & his brains were completely blown on the floor & carpet beneath her.
All she could do at the moment was sit on top of the man looking around realizing what she done. She killed someone & in a quite brutal way to think about it. The whole time she did it she was just picturing him that terrible man who took advantage of her & abused her in the worst ways as possible for years until she finally escaped. Will Ospreay. The whole time as she was brutally murdering him she was picturing Will. Of course after realizing she finally broke down into tears and panicked she didn’t know what to do or what have she done so she quickly picked up her phone to call Jay & tell him what happened. Of course he was mad that someone tried to take her but he was just happy to know Cathay she was safe that’s all that matters after alll.
After she called Jay she did what he told her to do & waited outside of her apartment once she saw his car she was happy & relieved. When she saw Jay she couldn’t help her but run into his arms and cry all over again which would cause Jay to hold her in his arms in a comforting & loving way to let her know that she was safe now & nothing to worry about. She looked up at him still with tears in her eyes, Jay would whip her tears and tell her “Don’t worry I’ll take care of it.”

On this round of P3R, we’re heading to the red-light district!
But first, I just want to say, Fuuka’s link requires MAX COURAGE to start? Omg. Now I’m assuming Mitsuru needs max academics. Good god. NG+ is absolutely gonna be needed for this.
So it’s now the third (technically fourth) full moon! And now that I’m thinking about the Magician and that whole mess, I think it’s a little funny that no one in SEES, in any of our downtime, has ever questioned, “Hey, what the fuck was that thing that ripped itself out of Orpheus and bodied the Magician in one shot? It might help with some of these slogging battles.” But no. It’s fine. We don’t need to know what that vastly powerful persona was. Whatever. Let’s rock.
Tumblr media
Shirakawa Boulevard, despite Ikutsuki’s attempts to talk around it, is where the love hotels are!
Tumblr media
I’m pressing X to doubt, sir!
So we’re off to the Champs de Fleurs hotel, and actually other than the weird curtained waiting area and sexy price list next to the front desk, it does look pretty normal? Like, it’s a hotel. It’s got hotel hallways and elevators and stuff.
Tumblr media
And then we get to the third floor and the equivalent to the presidential suite.
Tumblr media
This is labeled as the Hierophant’s Chamber, and… Lovers is supposed to be here? Did the P3 movies just straight-up skip the Hierophant Shadow and I never noticed? XDDD The Hierophant is very round and kind of looks like a really big guy with a lady with a head made of coral behind him.
Tumblr media
Hierophant wasn’t bad, actually, and we get to explore the room afterwards before heading back downstairs. The kids clown on a lot of the décor, but like, the silly round bed would be cool for the novelty, and who DOESN’T want a tub that big???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But when we try to leave, we all get knocked out, and Minato wakes up in a different room, where Yukari is taking a shower.
Tumblr media
This sounds very like Orpheus, but it’s definitely not Orpheus, because Orpheus would know that Yukari is not our soulmate!
Yes I will continue being biased. XDDDDD
Tumblr media
If you say anything other than the correct answer, you get a “wait, that doesn’t seem right” thought bubble, and the dialogue just loops back to the start. You cannot fuck up the mission and game over on a night of brainwashed debauchery. XD
Minato comes to his senses, gets up from the bed, and Yukari comes out wrapped in a towel. She abruptly realizes where she is, screams, and slaps Minato before running back in the bathroom. And… Yukari? I was literally just standing here. Holy shit. Is this the pre-Kyoto warmup scene? God.
Tumblr media
NONE OF THIS WAS MY FAULT???
Fuuka gets through to us, and we go back up to the second floor to meet up with Junpei and Akihiko.
I can only assume Junpei and Akihiko were put in the same room.
Tumblr media
No one accused you of anything. Although now I’m giggling wondering what would have happened if I’d brought Mitsuru along instead.
We roam the hotel to find the mirrors we need to break to get back into the suite, and this is weirdly hilarious, all things considered.
Tumblr media
But eventually we find our way back into the boss arena, and the Lovers has the perfect design, honestly.
Tumblr media
GOD is it a bitch to fight, though. This fight took AGES because EVERY time it cast a spell with a charm effect, people got brainwashed. God forbid anyone other than Minato ever dodge an attack. Jesus fuck. I used every single one of my patra gems and dis-charms. Plus it cast diarama halfway through and of course when a boss does that it heals THOUSANDS of HP back to full health. Just give it salvation if you’re gonna do that.
As a brief side note, I love that when Minato casts the Jack Bros’ fusion spell, he just casually walks “offstage” afterwards and leaves them to it.
Tumblr media
But finally, we’re out of here.
Tumblr media
...Yukari volunteered so that I couldn’t take her out of the party and ruin my scripted undeserved slap. X’D
Tumblr media
Gee, Yukari, I wonder if it’s because no one ever has anything nice to say to him? He just gets treated like the comic relief.
Also, we’re being watched by these dudes.
Tumblr media
So when you say “we” do you mean you three, or like… humanity as a whole?
Back to the dorm to sleep this bullshit off, and then we move on with our week!
Tumblr media
...christ, dude, I just came to see how you were doing. Can I please have a dialogue option so we can talk about this??? No???? Okay… God, this is Mona all over again. My god damn Magicians are always having problems.
Tumblr media
...well, that’s nice. I wasn’t expecting that.
People at school are gossiping about how the school was rebuilt after an explosion ten years ago, and I’m getting texts from my attendant, who I apparently haven’t added to my phone? But at least she texts nicely.
Tumblr media
It’s pre-exam week, so all my social links are busy. Instead, my academics are lagging, so I’m studying with the members of SEES who aren’t cranky with me. That means Yukari and Fuuka, and Mitsuru and Akihiko. Akihiko recommends doing a quick workout after every few problems, because then, you’ll power through the next set in anticipation of getting to your next workout!
Tumblr media
Everyone I live with is insane. I love them. :’D
Ikutsuki calls a meeting to discuss something important, but before he can get to it, Yukari wants to speak. She’s had Fuuka looking into some stuff from the incident that happened ten years ago, and now she wants answers, because she thinks Mitsuru has been hiding things from us.
Other than the explosion, students were sent to the hospital, even though they were formally noted as just “absent”. It’s the same thing that happened to the girls bullying Fuuka; they fell unconscious and were unresponsive. Turns out, yeah, it was the same sort of thing. And it was Mitsuru’s grandfather, Koetsu Kirijo’s fault.
In greater Persona lore, knowing that he broke off from the Nanjo Group, he probably had access to tech that made his bullshit significantly easier to pull off. At the very least, we know he had the blueprints for a prototype anti-shadow suppression weapon, and the method to create artificial persona-users. But of course, he pushed too far.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Sorry that these subtitles are kind of blurry. Basically, they gathered up a shitload of shadows and then lost control of them, because of course they did.)
Tartarus and the Dark Hour exist because of all of this. The lab explosion happened because they lost control, and because the lab was around/under Gekkoukan, it ended with the school needing to be rebuilt as well.
Yukari is not pleased with this development. She feels like we’re just being used to clean up other people’s mess. But as Ikutsuki puts it, we’re the only ones who can fix things. Normal people can’t fight shadows.
He also says that no one knows why the Arcana Shadows suddenly reappeared after ten years, but… Well.
No one is okay after this.
Junpei is angry because he feels like nothing he does is good enough, and that all he’s really good at is fighting, which won’t be necessary anymore if the Dark Hour vanishes.
Akihiko goes to see Shinji, who he apparently grew up with in an orphanage with someone named Miki, to tell him that they know how to stop the shadows now. But Shinji still won’t come back to SEES.
Me and Minato aren’t okay because I’ve finally started this guy’s social link, and he’s a dick.
Tumblr media
Yukari’s dad was the lead researcher on the shadow stuff that led to the explosion, so I assume that he’s the one who got blamed for everything. Ikutsuki mentioned that the media picked one dude and demonized him.
Tumblr media
I think this date is wrong, though. If it was ten years ago, that’d be 1999. Right? :/ It’s also just funnier if the lab exploded like 3 weeks after the Sumaru crisis ended.
But I saved the cat! So everything is not a complete wreck.
Tumblr media
Pharos comes back to see me and implies some sketchy shit about my parents.
Tumblr media
My parents (and my sister, shush, I’m pretending it’s canon) did not explode, though. So this isn’t their fault.
Tumblr media
We’re absolutely friends.
After affirming that at least one person will stick by me to the end, even if that one person is a strange child who keeps waking me up at midnight, I come home from school the next day to find everyone sitting around experiencing the most awkward silence ever conceived.
Tumblr media
Akihiko, no!
Thankfully, we manage to talk through what’s bothering the group as a whole (Junpei is still mad at me, I think), and Ikutsuki shows up to suggest that after exams, we all go on vacation to Mitsuru’s family’s summer home on the island of Yakushima. Her dad is going to be there, apparently!
Mitsuru reluctantly agrees, Yukari apologizes to her for being too gung-ho and accusatory the other night, and I think we’re all chill again. Which is good.
Tumblr media
…….it’s my last night before exams and my option for study-buddy is Ikutsuki???
Nah. I’m out.

[Translation] Clover no Kuni no Alice ~ White Calling~ Light Novel - Chapter 3
Tumblr media
Author: Sana Shirakawa Artist: 文月ナナ
Act 3 - Event at the green tower
Alice walked alone through the bustling town.
'............'
In the centre of the mostly green coloured townscape was a gigantic tower.
Clover Tower now stood in the place where the Clock Tower in the Country of Hearts had once been. Her light blue apron dress swaying, Alice was walking around the venue where the assembly would soon be held.
She had heard general details about the assembly from Blood, but didn't know anything substantial about it. She understood that special rules were in place for it, but still had her doubts whether a discussion could really be held amongst such a gathering of individualistic people.
In contrast to her misgivings, Blood Dupre had answered as if it were no big deal.
'It's not about having a proper discussion. The important thing is that we gathered and discussed something, that's all that is necessary. What it's about is meaningless. That's the kind of world this is.'
From his point of view, it was likely the real problem was that something so pointless would be taking away his precious tea times. As he drank the tea that had been his souvenir from the Castle, he repeatedly said, 'Ah, what a pain,' while looking annoyed.
She wondered what her other acquaintances thought. So thinking, she asked Elliot who had just returned from work, but the look on his face was complicated as he answered.
'The assembly? Yeah, it really is a waste of time…..there's more work to do, and I feel bad for Blood since he can't have his tea parties, plus I can't eat carrot cake whenever I want…..nothin' good about it at all.'
He was already so busy with work on a daily basis to begin with, she was puzzled as to exactly what kind of situation would cause him to be even busier than he already was. She was even less sure than before about what the assemblies were like.
She tried asking the Twins as well but…..they too shook their heads and sighed.
'Assemblies are awful, Big Sis. We get less days off, and we can't take long vacations. They really overwork us…..don't you think it's far too much, brother?'
'You're right, brother. They gotta increase our salary for the extra amount of work, or it's not worth it.'
The words the boys repeated seemed to imply that there was nothing else they found so troublesome.
Perhaps such a reaction was only to be expected of them, for whom time off and how much they were paid were matters of particular concern…..
But from such explanations as these, it was an impossible task for her to understand what the assemblies were, when she had never experienced them.
No matter how much she pondered, they would eventually happen. Maybe it was pointless to try and collect information in advance.
However, Alice had decided to remain in this world of her own free will.
Even though at the beginning she had only thought about returning home, before she had realised it, she had grown accustomed to this world.
Its workings were somewhat peculiar, but she had confidence that to a certain extent she could get used to them. That was why, even if it wasn't to the level of those around her, she wanted to obtain at least the minimum amount of information regarding the large event known as an assembly…..but it seemed that was easier said than done.
She had heard that just like the Clock Tower, the area surrounding Clover Tower was a neutral zone that did not involve itself in territorial disputes. Since the assembly was so soon, she had thought that if she went there she would meet one of her acquaintances, but as of now she had yet to spot a familiar face.
The fact that she couldn't help but remember the Clock Tower as she looked at the town square—meant that Alice had not yet been able to process all that had happened.
Because until now, assemblies and moves where the land itself changed were matters unrelated to Alice.
'I wonder what I should do now.'
If it were a festival that involved the entire town, she could likely gain the answers she wanted by asking one of the people nearby. However, the assembly wasn't something just anyone could attend. She had heard that only certain people could enter the meeting place in Clover Tower. Although most people knew of the assemblies, they had no direct involvement with them, so even if she were to enquire, she wouldn't be able to get her desired answers.
Just as she was about to give up and return to Hatter Mansion-
'.....Ah-'
She had a feeling she had just seen a familiar vivid pink colour in the midst of the crowd of people.
She quickened her pace a little as she ran up to him, but faster than Alice could call out, it appeared that he had noticed her too.
A face she knew well turned around, Alice reflected in his gaze.
Even from within the fluffy fur muffler wrapped around him, she could see his broad grin.
'Oh, it's you, Alice. It's rare to see you in a place like this. Did you come here to play?'
'It's been a while. I'm happy I got to see you, Boris.'
As she reached a spot that was close to him, Alice's feet came to a stop. Though his colours seemed all the flashier the more that you looked at them, she was no longer surprised. In the midst of the pink fur, she could see his small ears twitching.
Boris Airay, the Cheshire Cat, who could be called Pierce's natural enemy. In the Country of Hearts his place of residence had been the Amusement Park, but now he was living in the Forest.
'Ah, did you maybe have an errand here too, Boris? I would have thought you'd have been in the Forest, or playing with Dee and Dum.'
She would feel bad if she had gotten in the way of his errand. But as she was thinking that, he chuckled and shook his head. The gold decorations attached to the fur muffler glinted as they reflected the daylight.
'Nope, just out here to have some fun. And what about you? Shopping? It'd make me happy if you came here looking for me though.'
Boris' face drew closer to Alice as if looking for her attention. Striped tail swaying, he came nearer to the girl. The tall figure as it bent down a little looked exactly like a cat coming up to nuzzle against her.
It appeared that despite the move and the soon to be held assembly, he was still the same as usual. While feeling somehow lonely as well as relieved, Alice continued.
'I heard about it from Blood…the assembly is about to begin soon, right? I came here wanting to ask everyone about it, but…'
'The assembly? It's a waste of time going around asking about something like that. If it wasn't for the rules, I wouldn't want to go myself.'
Hearing what Alice had said, he shrugged as if bored. Even the tail that had been wafting  about excitedly just a moment ago had drooped down. His tail was even more honest than his face.
'I gotta wear stuffy clothes, and can't play whenever I want to. Isn't it just too cruel for a Cat to not be able to chase a Mouse even if he's right next to me? And I can't eat fish whenever I feel like it…..it's such a pain.'
Sighing, the Cheshire Cat stretched himself from his formerly bent position. The flexible Cat quietly looked down at Alice.
As Boris continued to stare intently at her, he suddenly smiled mischievously. The one eye that had seemed so bored before suddenly twinkled as if he were enjoying himself.
‘Why so interested? Are you attending the meetings too, Alice?'
'Yeah, seems like it. Formal situations aren't really my kind of thing though…'
The head of the Mansion had prepared the outfit she would wear to the assembly before she had even realised it. Without a doubt, Alice's name was registered as one of the people to attend with him.
She hadn't yet seen the aforementioned formal wear. If all went as Blood had said and it was ready the time period after next, she would soon be making her debut in the new outfit.
Alice had experience interacting with high society in her original world, but of course had never taken part in any meetings called an assembly. At most, there had been the briefing sessions at the place she had worked at after school, but it wasn't as if she had been an official full-time employee.
'It's just that you all seem to know about the assemblies. I wanted to hear a little about what other people thought of them ahead of time. I feel bad that everyone always has to explain things to me though.’
‘Even if you don’t fret so much over it, you’re way better than that stupid mouse…..no, even more than me, you’re putting a lot of thought into the assembly. If it were me, I wouldn’t have even considered doing something like that.’
The pink coloured cat drew nearer to peer into Alice's eyes.
Half of his face was always hidden by his long bangs. That was why she could usually only see one of his eyes. The single eye that at times appeared childish, sometimes fearless as he laughed, was now looking at her gently as he smiled.
'I get you might feel anxious from not knowing, but once you've been to one once, you'll understand exactly what they're like. No need to be so worried.'
'.....Really?'
'Yeah. You really take things way too seriously.'
When asked if she had been worried, Alice wasn’t sure how to answer for a moment.
To be sure, she did feel a sense of uncertainty as a person not originally from this world in the face of rules that she did not understand. But she had a feeling it wasn't worry that she felt.
The feelings inside Alice couldn't be completely defined with a single word like anxiety. Even if she were to say that to Boris, it would be something difficult to resolve.
‘So by that you mean it’s useless to try and find out.’
‘Well, seeing as it’s the reason I got to see you, perhaps assemblies aren’t so bad….and also-’
His eyes having lit up with curiosity for just a moment, Boris laughed.
‘I’m looking forward to seeing you in formal wear. During the ball, the Hatter guys were sticking to you so closely, I couldn’t really get near. This time it seems I’ll be able to get a good look.'
‘The clothes might be fancy, but it’ll just be me wearing them, you know…..?’
It wasn’t as if Alice were a girl of rare or unparalleled beauty. As far as Blood’s taste in clothes went—although different from her own—while not incorrect, there was still a chance that they would outshine her.
That had been what she had thought, but Boris laughed as if exasperated saying, ‘You’re too down on yourself.’
‘It’ll be fine. It’s not like the others will be wearing clothes that are all that amazing. But, more importantly, Alice-’
‘Boris?’
Grabbing Alice’s arm, the Cheshire Cat grinned mischievously. His eyes narrowed, with one corner of his mouth raised, he pulled her along firmly as he began to walk.
‘Good timing, I’m hungry right now. There’s a restaurant with some good fish dishes nearby, so let’s go eat together.’
‘Huh-…..W-Wait, Boris?’
‘You’ll just tire yourself out overthinking things too much, ya know? In times like these, fish is the best! Let’s go!’
As Boris began to walk nimbly forward, he turned to look back at Alice, who was still surprised, and bent his head quizzically.
‘Oh, did you not like fish? Or would you have preferred a mouse?’
‘I-It would be a major problem if you gave me a mouse-!’
‘Is that so? Then, fish has to be fine, right? Even I like to dine out with a cute girl sometimes too.’
Just like that Alice was dragged along, but suddenly she couldn't help but think.
'............'
His previous place of residence had been the Amusement Park. The liveliest place in the Country of Hearts, where day and night, music was always playing and fun rides were always in operation.
But in comparison, there was barely anyone in the Forest where he now lived. The only other person living there was just the one other role holder…..it was a completely different type of environment. Of course, there was a town in the middle of the Forest, but she had heard he spent most of his time in the green space where the trees grew densely together.
'............'
If it was her, she would surely feel lonely. If she had ended up being separated from the boisterous and dangerous group that lived in the Mansion, and had to live in a Forest where people rarely went, she probably wouldn't be able to bear it.
'Aren't you…..lonely, Boris?'
'? What's this all of a sudden?'
He pulled on Alice's hand as he continued to walk on without answering.
She couldn't tell how the Cat felt just from his tail when his back was turned.
'It's just you and Pierce in the Forest. Gowland and all the other employees were always there with you up until now….I was just thinking you might feel lonely since they disappeared all of a sudden.'
I think I would definitely feel lonely.
She didn't say it out loud, but it was likely the intuitive Cat had picked up on her thoughts. Alice purposely didn't try to hide them.
'.....I'm a cat, Alice.'
So said the pink cat in a light tone, not looking back.
'Cats are fickle creatures after all, we can go anywhere…..and we can return from anywhere, too. That's why I'm not lonely at all. Or could it be-'
'.....Could it be?'
As Alice opened her mouth to confirm what he meant, he at last turned around.
The face with one corner of his mouth lifted in a roguish grin was the smile of the Cheshire Cat that Alice knew very well.
'If you're that worried about me, how about coming to the Forest too, Alice? If we chase after the Mouse together, I won't have the time to feel lonely at all.'
It was a cynical, somewhat unreadable smile. There was no way Alice could say anything to pry further.
She had told Pierce the same thing. No matter how much he were to invite her to the Forest—she could not live in the same place as them.
In the end, Alice stopped at slightly shaking her head with an awkward smile.
'I'll have to refuse.'
'Is that so? If you ever change your mind, come anytime.'
Accepting Alice's words, Boris once more returned his gaze ahead.
'Well, with that idiot mouse around…..the Forest might not be suitable for you, Alice.'
That was what he quietly murmured to himself, but his voice was so small it did not reach her ears.
Unbeknownst to them, there was a single hidden figure secretly watching them from the shadows of an alley.
'.....No fair, Boris…..I wanted to share a meal with Alice too…..chuu.'
The one pouting in a huff was the boy Dormouse the two of them had been talking about.
Moving his large ears, he muttered to himself.
'What to do, what to do. Maybe I should tag along too….but I don't like the kitty cat being there..and I wanna eat cheese, not fish.'
He took a step out onto the main street, but then stepped back again. After doing this repeatedly while humming to himself uncertainly, it looked as if he had at last made up his mind.
'Ah, but I can't. I'm in the middle of work right now! I gotta clean up properly, or the boss will get mad at me.'
Nodding to himself, he took hold of the trunk case he had left nearby. The heavy sounding bag trundled down the path as Pierce began to walk.
'Eheheh. But it's great Alice is coming to the assembly. That makes me happy, so happy…the assemblies are a bother, but Petey will be there, and so will Ellie. How nice, how nice. It's good everyone will be there…..although it would be even better if Boris and Dee and Dum weren't there too.'
With a rumbling, clattering noise-
In contrast to the Mouse's lighthearted sounding voice, the weighty sound of the trunk case echoed as he disappeared down the back alley.

The Shinsengumi and the Battle of Shirakawaguchi
The Battle of Shirakawaguchi (a.k.a. Battle of Shirakawa Castle, not to be mistaken with the Battle of Shirakawa) took place from leap April 20 to July 14, 1868 (Lunar calendar) or June 10 to August 31, 1868 (Western calendar). It was fought between the Northern Alliance and the New Government Army
At this point, Kondo Isami had already been executed (he died on May 17, 1868, Western calendar) and Hijikata Toshizo was absent due to the injury he got from the Battle of Utsunomiya on May 14 (western), so Saito Hajime (using the name Yamaguchi Jiro) was the Commander the Shinsengumi during the Battle of Shirakawaguchi.
The Shinsengumi and the Aizu forces captured Shirakawa Castle from the New Government Army on Apr 20 (lunar). On May 1 (lunar), the New Government Forces then recaptured Shirakawa Castle with only 700 men against the 2500 men from the Northern Alliance (along with the Shinsengumi) who were guarding the castle. The Northern Alliance (along with the Shinsengumi) increased their troops to 4500 and tried 7 times (from May 26 to July 14) to retake the castle, but failed.

On leap April 20, Keio 4 (lunar), the Shinsengumi and the Aizu soldiers led by Sanai, the son of Tanaka Harukiyo (Matsudaira Katamori’s chief retainer), invaded and occupied Shirakawa Castle, which was being defended by the soldiers of the Nihonmatsu Domain. After taking the castle, Toyama Iemon, the commander of the Aizu guerrilla corps, and the Shinsengumi (commanded by Saito Hajime) stationed themselves at the Shirasaka barrier to the south of the castle.
After winning the Battle of Utsunomiya Castle on April 23 (lunar), the New Government Army had secured Utsunomiya as a their base. They consisted mainly of soldiers from the Satsuma Domain, as well as soldiers from the Ogaki Domain, the Choshu Domain, and the Oshi Domain. They had marched from Utsunomiya to Otawara, but after learning about the occupation of Shirakawa Castle by Aizu, they advanced to Shirakawa on orders from Edo .
At dawn on leap April 25th (lunar), several hundred advance troops of the New Government Forces made a surprise attack on Shirasaka barrier. The Aizu guerilla forces and the Shinsengumi engaged them in a fierce battle. Hinata Shigetaro (leader of the Suzaku corps), who learned of this battle, attacked the New Government Army from the flank with Higuchi artillery and fought them to a standstill. Other forces then attacked the New Government Army from many directions. The New Government forces had no choice but to flee in the face of these fierce attacks from all sides. While retreating, they was stuck in the muddy fields caused by heavy rain. Due to a combination of fatigue, the lack of ammunition from the deadly fighting at the Battle of Utsunomiya Castle, the exhaustion of the march from Utsunomiya and the lack of familiarity with the area, they withdrew to Ashino (a town about 12km south-west from Shirasaka barrier, a 2.5hr walk).

On the following day, the 26th, Saigo Tanomo, a retainer of the Aizu Domain, entered Shirakawa Castle as governor of Shirakawa-guchi. Reinforcements from the Sendai, Tanagura, and Nihonmatsu clans also arrived. Saito Hajime and Miyagawa Rokuro of the Jungitai offered to defend Shirasaka barrier, but Saigo Tanomo rejected the idea, saying “We are superior in terms of military strength, so it is unnecessary”. Yamaguchi and the Junyitai were deployed at Shirakawaguchi to protect the main camp. Furthermore, Saigo focused his troops on Mt. Inari, located south of Shirakawa Castle, and deployed his main force and artillery.

The Shirakawa Yoshimi Shrine
I already got my preamble over in my last post, so there's no need for one here, let's get right into it!
Right after the visiting the Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine, we went to the nearby Shirakawa Spring (白川水源 lit. "white river water source").
So here's the shrine within the grounds of which the spring is found, the Shirakawa Yoshimi Shrine (白川吉見神社), located on the souther foot of Mount Aso.
Below: The entrance of the shrine, as marked by the two komainu statues and the shimenawa bound torii gate. From this website on the shrines of Kyushu.
Tumblr media
My visit to the shrine
Like I mentioned, we headed here right after leaving the Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine from my last post.
Unlike that shrine, this one's rather more famous (or rather, its spring is famous), and so has a car park located conveniently next to the shrine's entrance, as well as a gift shop selling local goods and souvenirs.
Below: My own image of the shrine's entrance.
Tumblr media
As you could see, I only caught the un-shaped komainu statue, i.e. the one with its mouth closed, this was cause stand any further back and I'd be out on the car road. So instead:
Tumblr media
Here's another one with the a-shaped komainu, i.e. the one with its mouth open. Together, they are said to form "Aum" (or perhaps more commonly "Om"), a sacred syllable in many religions, Buddhism included.
Anyways, we passed through the gate, we walked along the shrine road, which had a few souvenir shops and little rest houses as well, and even this little stall!
Tumblr media
"Everything is 100 yen!!" It's an unmanned shop probably where local farmers leave their excess crops to sell, here we see bags of potatoes and eggplants.
Passing the shops and stands we move into an area where the trees part, coming face to face with a river. This is of course the eponymous Shirakawa (白川), "the white river".
Below: A section of Shirakawa I saw on the way to the spring.
Tumblr media
Finally, we arrive at the shrine proper, passing by a toll gate. The shrine's been getting more and more visitors due to its fame, and so started collecting a modest fee of 100 yen per visitor (of high school age and above) for environmental conservation.
Before passing the second torii gate and going to the shrine building, we find a lowered platform that allows visitors to get near the river.
Below: The lowered area.
Tumblr media
The tray on the left of the wooden bench has various funnels and ladles, allowing visitors to get their own bottle of pristine Shirakawa spring water. I myself took a sip of the water, and it was refreshing indeed~.
Notably, the river itself also serves as where visitors cleanse themselves before paying respects at the shrine. Shinto deities abhor defilement and impurities, thus it is customary to cleanse oneself, typically with water.
A good number of shrines have a fountain, called a chouzu-ya (手水舎 lit. "hand water pavilion"), where one is expected to wash their hands and mouth, to purify themself before meeting the shrine's god.
However, this shrine simply uses the natural spring water that flows from within shrine grounds. After all, why use the man-made when we have access to the gods' blessings directly?
(Do note though to be careful not to let water spill back into the river, and definitely do not spit water that's used to cleanse your mouth back into the river. The floor around will do.)
Below: The entrance of the shrine proper, pass the shrine road, from the same site previously mentioned.
Tumblr media
Having cleansed myself, we go through the shrine's second torii gate and towards the shrine buildings. The engaku (on both gates actually) reads, plain and simple, "Shirakawa Yoshimi Shrine".
Below: The second torii of the shrine, pass it is the shrine proper.
Tumblr media
Right after we enter, on the left is a typical man-made chouzu-ya fountain, on which reads "seishin" (清心), "to purify one's heart" or simply "pure heart, which is how one should conduct themself before the gods.
Below: The shrine's proper chouzubachi, taken from the same site once again.
Tumblr media
Of course, as you see from the image, it doesn't even have a ladle for you to get water from it. They really do expect visitors to cleanse themselves with the river, after all.
As you can see from the image of the torii gate, the road branches into two. We went on the right path first, which leads to the shrine's greatest treasure: The Shirakawa Spring.
However, before reaching the spring, we come across a small hokora (祠), a small-scale shrine where local folk deities are often enshrined. This particular one enshrines Suijin (水神 lit. "water god") the god of the spring.
Below: The roadside hokora.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyways, passing the hokora by we reach the spring itself!
Below: The Shirakawa Spring.
Tumblr media
The spot in the middle that's especially blue is where the water was gushing out from, and oh how clear the water was! And look at the moss growing on the river bed! It really was an awe-inspiring sight~.
Here's a video, which hopefully shows off how water gushes out from the riverbed (don't mind the cicadas lol it was prime cicada season).
After marvelling at the spring, I took a quick look the shrine buildings. Starting with: The prayer hall. The flags being displayed out front read "Yoshimi Shrine" (吉見神社).
Below: The prayer hall.
Tumblr media
The white building to the left of the shrine is the shrine's mikoshi storehouse, mikoshi (神輿) being divine palanquins in which the gods' spirits are housed during festival parades.
Below: A glimpse of the palanquins as seen from outside.
Tumblr media
Next, I went to the right of the prayer hall, and took the following side-shot of the shrine building. Here we can get a glimpse of its main hall too, where the gods are housed.
Tumblr media
Opposite the main hall, on the right, is a smaller subsidiary shrine also under the management of the Shirakawa Yoshimi Shrine.
This one is simply classified as a keidai-sha (境内社 lit. "shrine within [shrine] grounds"). It used to be that these subsidiary shrines are divided into two types:
Sessha (摂社), colloquially called "auxiliary shrines", where gods related to the main shrine's gods are enshrined; and
Massha (末社), "undershrines", where unrelated gods are enshrined.
It used to be that auxiliary shrines are at a higher rank than undershrines, but this class system has now been discarded, any some shrines no longer list out which these subsidiary shrines used to be. This is one of them.
This particular shrine is a combination of three, first among which is a Tenman-guu Shrine (天満宮 lit. "Palace of Tenman"), which enshrines the famous scholar god Sugawara no Michizane, or Tenman Tenjin (天満天神).
Below: The subsidiary Tanman-guu Shrine.
Tumblr media
Alongside the great Tenjin, two deities long since worshipped by local villagers are now also enshrined here, they are two particular aspects of the bodhisattva Kanzeon (観世音): Safe-childbirth Kanzeon (子安観世音) and Horse-headed Kanzeon (馬頭観世音).
Below: The statues of Tenjin, Safe-childbirth Kanzeon and Horse-headed Kanzeon (in order), enshrined within the Tenman-guu Shrine. From this shrine-themed website.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Safe-childbirth Kanzeon is said to impart, as the name suggests, safe childbirth; While the Horse-headed Kanzeon (who funnily enough doesn't have a horse head here) is said to protect travellers.
Combined with the scholar god Tenjin, this is a surprisingly potent shrine, covering a good chunk of our early lives.
One might note that Kanzeon, perhaps more commonly known in her Chinese rendition as Guanyin, is not exactly a Shinto deity, but rather a Buddhist figure.
This should come as no surprise if we look at Shinto and Buddhism's history in Japan, where they were, for most of its history since the introduction of Buddhism, viewed as the same thing.
And thus it's actually not uncommon at all for Buddhist features to be found in Shinto shrines, nor vice versa. That's all I'll say here, so as not to derail things, though if any of y'all are interested I could certainly write on that as well.
In any case, that's the entirely of the shrine explored, and we head off to our next destination.
History
Now that our tour is over, we can move onto the history of the shrine.
This shrine, being a comparatively larger scale shrine, has a clearer history than the last one, well-kept by the shrine's records. So, here's the Shirakawa Yoshimi Shrine's history, as told by the shrine itself.
Below: The sign on which the shrine's history can be found.
Tumblr media
Official Shrine History
Year of Establishment: Unclear
Since ancient times, this shrine's has been considered the protector shrine of the Shirakawa Spring as the undershrine of the Aso Shrine (阿蘇神社).
The great spring gushing out from the center of the shrine is considered one of the greatest views of Higo (肥後 the historical province the Aso region is found in).
Its water flows through the Nangou Valley (南郷谷) to the west, then through southern Kikuchi (菊池) to finally supply water to the several thousand hectares of water paddies in the Higo plains (肥後平野) in Houtaku, Kumano.
In the 6th month of Genroku 14 (1693), the 5th lord (藩主 hanshuu) of Higo, Lord Tsunatoshi Hosokawa (細川綱利), visited this shrine when out hunting on the mountains.
He declared to the district administrator (郡代 gundai), "This shrine is where the spring god who supplies the fields in my land resides, and my gratitude for their grace is great indeed. With haste, build a shrine building here." Thus was the origin of this shrine.
It is said that the shrine curtains featuring the Kuyou (九曜 lit. "nine stars") emblem were offered up by Lord Yoshikuni Hosokawa (細川韶邦) (future first han-chiji of Kumano) during one of his visits, during the Kaei era (1848—1853).
Alternatively, it is said that it was offered up by the 14 generation's Lord Morihisa (護久) and Lord Moriyoshi (護美) during one of their visits, during the first year of the Meiji era (1868).
The current shrine building was built and completed in December of Meiji 42, as the previous building had burnt down in a fire a year prior, in Meiji 41 (1908).
Also, several old trees of several thousand-years old fell during a typhoon in Shōwa 21 (1946), reducing the number of shrine trees to what you see now.
It's said that the shrine's spring is why the Kumano prefecture was called the "Shirakawa Prefecture" during the early Meiji era, why the local region is called "Shirakawa" and also gave its name to Shirakawa Village.
The Later Collection of Japanese Poems (後撰和歌集), compiled in Tenryaku 5 (951), contains the following poem:
Many years have passed, my black hair too, seems to have gotten old. Just as how I now draw water from the Shirakawa. — Higaki no Ouna (檜垣嫗)
The spring water has long been spoken of respectfully as divine water that grants "longevity without ageing" and "dispersal of current illnesses".
Overall History
And that's everything that's written on that sign! There's a bit more to go though, expanding on what the shrine's own records along with other records tell us.
To start with, we're actually going back to that poem by Higaki no Ouna. If it is true that the name Shirakawa came from the shrine, this would mean that it needs to be at least as old as the Later Collection of Japanese Poems, in which the poem is found.
Higaki no Ouna's Poem A bit of context for the poem, Higaki no Ouna is poet said to have been a prostitute known for her refinement. This poem is said to have been composed by her as she was fetching water from the Shirakawa river, lamenting how she had fallen into ruin with old age, having to fetch water herself rather than being able to have someone else do it for her. Here both "Shirakawa" and the phrase "draw water" are kakekotoba (掛詞), or "pivot words", a technique used in Japanese waka poetry where kanji carry two layers of meaning, one literally from the kanji and one from its reading. Yes it's basically a pun, in a sense. But it's elegance comes in how it allows the poet to use less syllables in the poems, while at the same time expressing more. This brevity is considered key in these poems. The two here respectively point to "white hair" and "teeth that emerge as one becomes old", both pointing to how old Higaki no Ouna now is.
The collection was compiled in 951. means that the shrine has to have existed in some capacity by the late Heian period (794—1185).
However, according to the Aso Shrine's records, the undershrine mentioned in the shrine's records was not establiished until the end of the Tenshou era (天正), around 1573 to 1593.
Thus it is thought that this place had been home to a water god faith even prior to its establishment as an undershrine of the Aso Shrine.
Whatever the case, during its time as an undershrine, its resident water god was Himemiko-no-Kami (比咩御子神), the goddess of the 3rd palace of the Aso Shrine.
The next notable part of the shrine's history is with Tsunatoshi Hosokawa, you might notice that the above sign makes it sound like he ordered for a shrine to be built where a shrine already existed.
It's not exactly clear what the passage means by this, though it could mean that it didn't have a proper shrine building before this.
Skipping ahead, it is in the 1st year of Meiji that the shrine gets to its current form. It was re-assigned as a Yoshimi Shrine (吉見社) during this period, replacing its old head shrine of the Aso Shrine with the Kusakabe Yoshimi Shrine (草部吉見神社).
Alongside this change, the Shirakawa Yoshimi Shrine adopted the Kusakabe Yoshimi Shrine's head god, Kunitatsu-daimyoujin (国龍大明神), and changed its water god to be Mitsuhanome-no-Mikoto (罔象女命).
Mythology
The mythology of this shrine isn't going to be as interesting as the last one, since there's no particular tale behind the shrine or the spring's origins.
So instead, let's briefly go over the shrine's main blessings, as well as the various gods it's once enshrined.
Blessings
According to the sign above, the shrine has 2 main blessings: Safety at home and Safety in traffic;
Additionally, it's also known to be particularly responsive to two types of prayers: That for school admissions and rain.
Gods
As mentioned in the history section, the Shirakawa Yoshimi Shrine likely had three generations of gods, starting with an theorised water god before formal shrine worship, though there's nothing much to really say about this one, so we can move on to generation 2.
Next the shrine was formally established as an undershrine of the Aso Shrine. The Aso Shrine's head god is Takeiwatatsu-no-Mikoto (健磐龍命), grandson of legendary 1st Emperor Jimmu.
You might recognise this to be the very same Aso-daimyoujin (阿蘇大明神) mentioned last time. We are in the Aso region after all, it only makes sense that the "great shining god of Aso" take central stage.
The Aso Shrine is mainly divided into twelve "palaces", and Himemiko-no-Kami is the goddess of the fourth palace.
She is Takeiwatatsu's aunt, through marriage to his uncle, and was taken to be the the Shirakawa Yoshimi Shrine's water goddess while it was under the Aso Shrine's jurisdiction.
The shrine was later reclassified to be under the Kusakabe Yoshimi Shrine's lineage, which is actually not too surprising when you consider that this shrine's head god is Kunitatsu-no-Kami (国龍神 lit. "country dragon god"), Himemiko's husband.
Kunitatsu is perhaps more readily known outside of Aso as Hikoyai-no-Mikoto (日子八井命), Emperor Jimmu's eldest son.
At the Shirakawa Yoshimi Shrine, he is eulogistically titled the "Great shining god Kunitatsu" (国龍大明神 Kunitatsu-daimyoujin) and seems to have replaced his wife's role as water god of the spring.
This would likely be because he is worshipped as a water god at the Kusakabe Yoshimi Shrine, making him a better fit for this role than his wife, who doesn't seem to have any connection to water (though admittedly I couldn't find much on her to begin with).
Finally, it is also at this stage that Mitsuhanome-no-Mikoto (罔象女命) was added to the shrine's pantheon. She is famously the water goddess born out of a dying Izanami's urine, but not much else is known about her beyond this.
Still, a water goddess is a water goddess, so she fits right in at the Shirakawa Yoshimi Shrine.
Ending
And that concludes my dive into the Shirakawa Yoshimi Shrine, this one's quite a bit more dry this time, perhaps due to the shrine having less of a colourful story, but it's still a wonderful place, so I hope you enjoyed all the same~!

was your trip to japan fun? i know you just said you loved it, but i'm kinda debating on whether i should go to japan with some friends/acquaintances, so idk. would you recommend it?
it was incredible! i went for a week with my father and younger sisters and basically went cross-country from tokyo to as far as shirakawa-go and hiroshima. the experience was wonderful and the cities were fascinating, nature-filled areas were beautiful (ESPECIALLY shirakawa-go... it's not cheap to stay at an inn there but my god, if you can afford it, it's a wonderful experience) and the food was amazing. i met a lot of very kind and friendly people there and loved getting to experience traditional hotels/inns. japan is also very clean and a lot of people wear facial masks, so any COVID-related fears i had were soothed by that (and i didn't get sick!)
i found that, even though i don't know a lot of japanese, my basic knowledge of the language helped me get around. if you don't know any japanese and might go to japan, i'd recommend learning some basic phrases and questions for getting around! (things like "thank you", "excuse me", "sorry", "good morning/evening/night", "where is ___?" are particularly helpful) though i found that english was quite common too, so there wasn't really much of an issue with language barriers for me! a lot of big cities have easy-to-find english signs, menus, and whatnot... so that's super helpful!
there were some challenges, especially as a disabled person (a lot of transportation relies on walking to bus & train stations, for example, and i did have a period when walking through akihabara where i nearly collapsed from exhaustion) and if you're visiting japan from a faraway country like the US, the jetlag can be difficult to overcome. i had a lot of sleepless nights when i arrived where i'd go to bed at 10 or 11 PM and wake up at 2 AM, unable to go back to sleep for the rest of the night...
that said, there is a LOT of accessibility there for disabled, down to having things like ostomy was basins in many public bathrooms & some hotels (something i'd never even heard of or seen in america) and ridged/bumpy ground and sound cues for the visually impaired. having a Lot of convenience stores & vending machines around japan made getting juice and similar drinks really easy too which is Great because i need juice to take some nasty meds of mine haha
as for the flights to & from japan... they were LONG... but! the nice thing is that a lot of international airlines like that have wifi, sometimes complimentary. so if you've got online friends to chat with or websites to browse when you're on the flight, that makes it a lot more chill
overall, if it's an opportunity you can afford and the company you'll be in is good enough to travel with, i'd definitely recommend it!

Weekend treat: pop in Kiyosumi Shirakawa, a district east of Tokyo, and wander through there with no specific aim, no plan, nor a map early in the afternoon!
28/4/2024
Instead of a plan to head to Tachikawa for an exhibition, I decided to come around Kiyosumi Shirakawa/Fukagawa, one of the Tokyo's old town districts, on impulse. This place has been featured in lots of Japanese magazines, giving me an impression of being appreciated by fashion-conscious people; and I was partially right. On getting off a train, you can recognize both modern/stylish and traditional elements even through its station including the leaflets about the town depositing on a rack. Regarding a modern design aspect, it could be attributed to an art museum within the district named Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo(MOT). On the other hand, Edo period architecture remains there; nagaya, a long housing complex under the same ridge, one or two stories high, divided into small compartments for rent(quoted from Wikipedia), for instance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I followed the flow of tourists from the station and arrived at the entrance of a kind of shopping district. Each store was small and modest, which brought about a cozy, approachable atmosphere throughout the district; and I love that. I stopped by a ceramic store, a tea shop, and Fukagawa Edo Museum first. The latter had exhibits regarding a renowned sumo wrestler who had lived in the district and awarded for the Honorary Citizen.
Tumblr media
One thing that I like about this town was the good ratio of neighbors and tourists. I could recognize its neighbors in T-shirt, shorts and sandals there and felt the fact that the place was properly dedicated to its inhabitants wonderful. It seemed to be loved by both indeed. I, personally, got captured by the scenes such as, a mother and a small daughter buying Japanese sweets communicating with an elderly owner in front of a showcase and a young woman riding a bike without belongings.
Tumblr media
Then, I ran into two second-hand book stores along the street, both of which fit my taste in books perfectly and reminded me of the days when I had been working on a pile of assignments and a graduation thesis by reading a lots of books about structuralism, literary theory, film criticism, or feminism in college(Surprisingly, I a bit missed that). I felt blessed for this fateful encounter, so I would love to come back before long.
While roaming through this area, we reached the art museum which I mentioned at the beginning. Its architecture was so modern in terms of shape and material in accordance with its name; and there was a comfortable environment opened to the public inside. In contrast to fashionable, stylish design of the building, elderly people in loungewear from the neighborhood seemed to easily come in just for chilling, which I did appreciate. That signified democracy. Besides, there was a narrow passage a bit similar to Great Wall of China next to a small pond within the premises and a park surrounded by trees. So, I took off my face mask and took a deep breath there, getting refreshed. I want to settle down this place.

The Top 7 Most Famous Sites in Japan
Japan, a place of eternal beauty and cultural depth, has a variety of well-known landmarks that pull visitors into its unique tapestry. The Tokyo Royal Palace is one of these well-known sites and is a representation of royal splendour. Its old building and verdant surroundings provide light on Japan's imperial past. Mount Fuji, a famous volcanic peak, is Japan's highest mountain and a deeply established emblem in the country's consciousness. Its spectacular silhouette against the horizon has inspired artists and travellers for centuries, making it a must-see location. Kinkaku-Ji, often known as the Golden Pavilion, is a breathtaking sight in Kyoto. This Zen Buddhist temple is covered in gold leaf and reflects in the beautiful lakes that surround it, providing an otherworldly peace. The Sky tree, Japan's tallest tower, pierces the Tokyo skyline. Its panoramic vistas of the expanding metropolis represent Japan's futuristic ambitions and technological capabilities. Each of these icons represents a different aspect of Japan's rich history, spirituality, and technological ingenuity, creating a magnetic appeal for visitors seeking an immersive experience in this wonderful country.  Here are some famous sites in Japan.  1. Tokyo Imperial Palace: Tokyo, like many other Japanese cities, has a rich history of imperial rule. As a result of this history, Tokyo now boasts one of the best-preserved imperial palaces in the country. The Tokugawa dynasty constructed the Tokyo Imperial Palace during their rule, and its extraordinary luxury and rich history only serve to heighten its appeal. Today, the palace serves as the residence of Japanese Emperor Akihito and his family. As a result, visitors can only visit the palace on the emperor's birthday (December 23) and on January 2nd, when a new address is announced for the coming year.
Mount Fuji: Mount Fuji best exemplifies Japan's wild beauty. Mount Fuji and its surroundings are not only breathtaking, but they also hold great cultural and spiritual significance in Japan. From its sacred Shinto roots dating back to at least the 7th century to the breathtaking cherry blossoms that cover the area in the spring, no trip to Japan is complete without a stop here.
The Kinkaku-Ji: Located in the middle of Kyoto, the beautiful Kinkaku-ji, which is recognized by UNESCO,. One of the most significant and essential religious sites in the nation is this magnificent Zen Buddhist temple. Furthermore, it is incredibly beautiful. Every Japanese person's bucket list should include a visit to Kinkaku-Ji, renowned for its elaborate workmanship and vivid golden colors.  4. Skytree in Tokyo: It is understandable why the Tokyo Skytree is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Japan, given that it is one of the highest buildings in the world and offers some of the best views over Tokyo. With a height of 345 meters, it is a true mainstay of Tokyo's skyline. It offers amazing views of the city and is also home to a planetarium, 300 stores and restaurants, an aquarium, and other attractions.
Senso-ji: Senso-Ji best exemplifies Tokyo's adept balance of antique and modern. This historic Buddhist temple in Asakusa, Tokyo, is one of the city's most well-known landmarks. And don't just take our word for it; the Senso-ji Temple is the world's most visited sacred place, with around 30 million visitors each year.
Osaka Castle: Japan does not have many castles, but the ones that do exist are just gorgeous. Osaka Castle is a crown jewel in the midst of a peaceful environment and historical history. A visit to Osaka Castle is a must, with its stormy history spanning nearly 500 years, architecture that screams Japanese fantasy, and beautiful surroundings.
Shirakawa-Go: Shirakawa-go is one of Japan's many UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This historic village, located in the heart of Central Japan, is well-known for its traditional buildings in the midst of tranquil nature, as well as its rich history. Whether you're a history enthusiast or not, you can't help but fall in love with this lovely village, which offers a rare glimpse into ancient Japanese village life. The most well-known locations in Japan invite visitors to explore a world where cutting-edge technology coexists with age-old customs. Tokyo is a fascinating country that combines history, spirituality, and technological innovation. Examples of this may be seen in the Tokyo Imperial Palace, Mount Fuji, Kinkaku-Ji, and the Sky tree. These sites serve as both physical and cultural touchstones, enticing tourists to explore Japan's complex identity. The search term "Japan Visa from Delhi" makes it easier to make easy travel arrangements and explore these famous locations for individuals who are itching to set off on this fascinating adventure. Getting a visa from the energetic metropolis of Delhi prepares visitors for an all-encompassing encounter that lets them take in the contrast of modern and ancient marvels, explore Japan's rich cultural legacy, and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the country. These well-known locations serve as ageless invitations to discover a country where innovation and tradition coexist peacefully, as Japan continues to enthral audiences throughout the world. The phrase "Japan Visa from Delhi" becomes more than simply a handy search term; it also acts as a key to unlocking doors for anyone interested in learning more about Japan's past, present, and future

Crafting Unforgettable Adventures: A Guide to Experience-Driven Japan Trip Planning
Introduction:
Embarking on a journey to Japan is an enchanting adventure that promises a fusion of ancient traditions and modern marvels, offering an experience unlike any other. Japan's rich cultural heritage, stunning natural landscapes, delectable cuisine, and cutting-edge technology create a tapestry of experiences waiting to be woven into your travel memories. To ensure you make the most of your Japan trip, meticulous planning that focuses on immersive experiences is key. In this guide, we'll delve into the art of Experience Japan Trip Planning, helping you curate a journey that lingers in your heart long after you've returned home.
The Essence of Experience-Driven Travel:
Experience-driven travel is all about engaging with a destination on a deeper level. It's about immersing yourself in local culture, connecting with locals, and participating in activities that offer genuine insights into the way of life. In the context of Japan, this could mean indulging in a tea ceremony, learning the intricacies of Ikebana (flower arranging), or even donning a kimono for a day.
Building Your Japan Itinerary:
Cultural Encounters: Begin your journey with a focus on Japan's cultural treasures. Pay a visit to Kyoto, the cultural heart of the nation, where you can explore ancient temples, stroll through traditional tea houses in Gion, and witness the mesmerizing beauty of geisha performances. Consider timing your trip during cherry blossom season for an added layer of magic.
Natural Wonders: From the tranquil bamboo forests of Arashiyama to the awe-inspiring views of Mount Fuji, Japan's natural beauty is spellbinding. Incorporate visits to national parks, onsen (hot springs) resorts, and serene gardens to balance the urban experience with moments of serenity.
Culinary Delights: Japanese cuisine is renowned worldwide, and your trip is a gastronomic adventure waiting to unfold. Indulge in sushi at Tokyo's Tsukiji Market, savor street food in Osaka's Dotonbori district, and try your hand at a cooking class to master the art of crafting sushi rolls or preparing a bowl of ramen from scratch.
Technological Marvels: While tradition is a cornerstone of Japanese culture, the nation is also a global hub for technological innovation. In cities like Tokyo, immerse yourself in futuristic experiences – from robot-themed restaurants to interactive digital art galleries.
Off-the-Beaten-Path: To truly create a unique journey, venture beyond the popular tourist destinations. Explore the historical samurai district of Kanazawa, stroll through the Edo-period streets of Takayama, or wander the charming village of Shirakawa-go with its iconic thatched-roof houses.
Practical Planning Tips:
Timing: Research and choose the best time to visit based on your preferences, whether it's the cherry blossoms of spring, the vivid foliage of autumn, or the snow-covered landscapes of winter.
Accommodation: Opt for lodging that enhances your experience, such as a traditional ryokan for an authentic stay or a modern luxury hotel for added comfort.
Language and Etiquette: While English is spoken in tourist areas, learning a few basic Japanese phrases can go a long way in connecting with locals. Familiarize yourself with cultural norms and etiquette to show respect.
Transportation: Invest in a Japan Rail Pass for convenient and cost-effective travel between cities. Within cities, public transportation systems are efficient and well-connected.
Reservations: Make advance reservations for popular attractions, restaurants, and experiences to avoid disappointment.
