Weekend treat: visit an art museum and see Important Cultural Properties for the first time!

Having been influenced by a course in Japanese Art during the spring semester, I went to see Important Cultural Properties at an art museum located right in front of the Imperial Palace on my day off. It was way too good, so my enthusiasm for Japanese culture including historical stuff got increased.

Thanks to some lectures that I had taken in advance, I smoothly figured out the situation of Japanese Art from the Meiji era to the end of WWⅡ, which is covered for this exhibition. At that time, there were early westernization and modernization in Japan, and one after another, painters went to France to master styles and techniques of Western painting, such as perspective and Realism. On the other hand, there were painters in Japan preserving traditional Japanese style by creating. In other words, we can see a sort of art style combining Japanese and Western elements through artworks drawn during the period.

Shoen Uemura "Mother and Child"（1934）

This is what I was the most moved by; I forgot about the time on staring at it and couldn't take my eyes off it for a moment. Frankly speaking, I have been totally against Maternalism/Motherhood Myth of some kind, but I admit that I, somehow, got fascinated by the picture at first sight and felt it affectionate and warm, especially from her eyes and mouth. Since then, I have been a big fan of Shoen Uemura to the point where I have been willing to visit art galleries which have her works to see them all the way. As well as that, I had second thought about Bijin-ga, pictures of beautiful women（Bijin in Japanese）in Japanese Art, and got to affirm this genre although I'm a feminist and never support Lookism. I noticed that some of the female painters who specialized in the genre didn't seem to cling to a well-proportioned face nor to depict attractive women for heterosexual men. There might be praise of maternity and femininity in works, but I don't want to accuse them of that; The environment may have affected their sense of beauty or values.

By the way, I realized that I liked watching or taking a picture of people gazing at something without noticing me. Also, it was kind of funny that all the people were looking at the same picture of a naked woman lying in public.

Therefore, I would say, observing visitors at an art museum is as interesting as exhibits.

Just curious what the average level of personal investment in these sorts of things is. Like, how much do people usually get into silly stuff like this their friends ask of them? etc. etc. Which I know, only surveying a small sample on a very specific website means I'm not getting an exact average idea lol, but.. curious nonetheless .. Maybe reblog for bigger sample size but also this is not very serious at all/not worth a call to action gbhjbhjb

Weekend treat: pop in Kiyosumi Shirakawa, a district east of Tokyo, and wander through there with no specific aim, no plan, nor a map early in the afternoon!

Instead of a plan to head to Tachikawa for an exhibition, I decided to come around Kiyosumi Shirakawa/Fukagawa, one of the Tokyo's old town districts, on impulse. This place has been featured in lots of Japanese magazines, giving me an impression of being appreciated by fashion-conscious people; and I was partially right. On getting off a train, you can recognize both modern/stylish and traditional elements even through its station including the leaflets about the town depositing on a rack. Regarding a modern design aspect, it could be attributed to an art museum within the district named Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo（MOT）. On the other hand, Edo period architecture remains there; nagaya, a long housing complex under the same ridge, one or two stories high, divided into small compartments for rent（quoted from Wikipedia）, for instance.

I followed the flow of tourists from the station and arrived at the entrance of a kind of shopping district. Each store was small and modest, which brought about a cozy, approachable atmosphere throughout the district; and I love that. I stopped by a ceramic store, a tea shop, and Fukagawa Edo Museum first. The latter had exhibits regarding a renowned sumo wrestler who had lived in the district and awarded for the Honorary Citizen.

One thing that I like about this town was the good ratio of neighbors and tourists. I could recognize its neighbors in T-shirt, shorts and sandals there and felt the fact that the place was properly dedicated to its inhabitants wonderful. It seemed to be loved by both indeed. I, personally, got captured by the scenes such as, a mother and a small daughter buying Japanese sweets communicating with an elderly owner in front of a showcase and a young woman riding a bike without belongings.

Then, I ran into two second-hand book stores along the street, both of which fit my taste in books perfectly and reminded me of the days when I had been working on a pile of assignments and a graduation thesis by reading a lots of books about structuralism, literary theory, film criticism, or feminism in college（Surprisingly, I a bit missed that）. I felt blessed for this fateful encounter, so I would love to come back before long.

While roaming through this area, we reached the art museum which I mentioned at the beginning. Its architecture was so modern in terms of shape and material in accordance with its name; and there was a comfortable environment opened to the public inside. In contrast to fashionable, stylish design of the building, elderly people in loungewear from the neighborhood seemed to easily come in just for chilling, which I did appreciate. That signified democracy. Besides, there was a narrow passage a bit similar to Great Wall of China next to a small pond within the premises and a park surrounded by trees. So, I took off my face mask and took a deep breath there, getting refreshed. I want to settle down this place.

I have been going through some old rumors from the fake house & decided to share some. whether these may be new to you or not, but i hope you still enjoy them as much as I did looking back. I feel like in the fandom, we’ve only ever been active when it comes to lrlg and the 49 fakes. the rest of the information that fall in between aren’t as talked about or depends on the topic. as with all other bjyx material, i want a place to store some parts of it. 🤍

There was a period last year where everyone had to learn rap, usually🐂 learned the fastest but he was absent-minded that time🐂 was looking at us eating delicious food while resting, it seems that he is thinking his rap, he seemed to be even more tired. I can’t relate to their obsession with the weather, but if that gives them a sense of connection to each other then it’s fine.

It I had a son and he brings home WYB as a boyfriend I will be very happy. I also feel soft that XZ is trying to tease and make WYB laugh.

(13) cravings

WYB has been craving for "cai cai rice" recently, XZ told him many times that spring is not so good to have wild vegetables, even if they are cooked. WYB said he doesn’t care about wild vegetables he just wants to eat the vegetable rice cooked by XZ, but I don’t have that. It smells good, I just want to eat it.

In the end, he still didn’t get the cabbage meal, but freshly baked dumplings. WYB got a bargain and acted nice, he was acting coquettishly while eating.

* Oh to be WYB and have someone like XZ cook for youuuu 😍😍😍😍

Weekend treat: take my parents to the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka for the first time, and we spend a refreshing time in a zoo as well as on a boat ride in Inokashira Park in the early summer sun!

29/4/2024（Day1 during the Golden Week）

When I was in high school, my parents were no interested in Ghibli nor eager to watch any of the films. So, I visited the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka alone and explored this place by myself. However, recently dad, 65, got open to anime and obsessed with Gigi from Kiki's Delivery Service without I noticed. Also, he's been immensely keen to take pictures with his fancy camera, which could be more important than his family, expecting to capture something touching within the premises in photograph（Yet, he knew the fact that taking pictures inside the building is prohibited in entering）.

Anyway, I felt somewhat glad then; this is because I was being with my parents, who wouldn't have any interest in it but now are sort of fans of it, in the place where I had been alone half a decade ago. In comparison with once, it was much crowded with people, and such minor details as dining area or some object by the entrance changed. Since I've obtained a bachelor's degree in Film Studies in college, I got to understand each exhibit more deeply than before, which I was satisfied with.

After we walked around and looked all over, we had a hotdog and fish-and-chips for lunch at the deck. Mom regretted not having stood in line at another restaurant which had a lot more options on the menu, though. While going down the stairs and heading toward Inokashira Park, which is located right next to the Ghibli Museum, I heard a man playing a song from the Ghibli movies on the violin. That was absolutely a synergistic effect.

When we walked across the park to a zoo, countless tiny leaves were fluttering and clung to our hairs and clothes; this made me feel that I couldn't get along with abundant nature at heart. Then, my parents and I popped in the zoo for the first time, and I was being excited to see goats in person（because I love ones）.

It was yet to become 1pm even after admiring each animal. We were off to Inokashira Pond for a boat ride. Despite the Golden Week now, it didn't take more time than I thought to wait in line. I chose a typical boat for 3 people and asked mom to row. Thanks to water and a pleasant breeze, that was so refreshing, and I managed to chill out from the bottom of my heart literally going with the flow on the water. I wished I had been able to stay there for good.

Subsequently, we headed over to Kichijoji station enjoying checking out some thrift clothing stores on the street. I, actually, didn't know how thriving the neighborhood of the park was and there were many clothing shops located side by side. Once you pass through the street, you'll face the shopping complex named Marui（OIOI）. I found that this complex didn't have attractive retails but food options for snacking; therefore, dad had matcha dessert, and mom ordered hojicha, which is also a kind of Japanese green tea, dessert. I was content to take plenty of pictures of them together for the day, because rarely have they had pictures taken together.
