|| uploading this here so i can waffle about it some more because since i saw this scene...urgh, it’s just been on my mind so much. 

i’ve talked a lot about heid vs godo and how it’s a huge part of my headcanon that godo is the reason why heid could no longer fight on the front line. godo is essentially heid’s sworn enemy in my universe / headcanon that i’ve created for him. obviously, i give heid a lot of credit & skill that some might argue he doesn’t deserve but ultimately -

i see godo as the better fighter.

perhaps when heid was a younger man he could have taken him but as a forty-something-year-old teetering on alcoholism and whose rusty from hardly having to fight? no way. 

why am i talking about this with an unrelated scene from a film above ? 

well; in this scene, the main character witnesses his entire party be slaughtered by a master swordsman that they challenge like a bunch of a scrubs. the entire time that this swordsman is cutting people down, the main character watches in with a mix of awe, horror, fear...excitement? 

the main character in this movie is kind of a dick; he essentially lives for death & is cruel to everybody. he’s a great swordsman, but he lives for evil. i saw a comment about him being sadistic and his sword doubling as his masculinity (shall we say) & to see another man fight so proficiently and so well essentially renders him impotent in that moment,

well, this is how i see heid / godo meeting. like, an almost identical scene / setting & heid’s reaction being in large part the same. i just think that this is such a good representation of that side of my characterisation & i’ve come to adore this scene. 

i’d implore anyone to watch it, it’s /so/ beautifully filmed.

You wanted to be an engineer and loved space so I made up metaphors about the sun and the moon. i never see you anymore and ive almost asked "Do you want to hang out?" so many times but I've never said it. i stayed up til one am on so many school nights just so i could hear about your day under the guise of eating the ice cream you'd bring home. you live down stairs but youre worlds away from me. Ive stood outside your door too many times to count and ill show you my stuff because I will never not want your praise. I want to know you like everyone else does, like everyone else thinks I do when they ask me how you are. I forget you got a hair cut because I haven't seen you since it was long. lets go get food and talk about mom and dad. can I hear about your day? Can I tell you about mine? I wont go to family events without you there because you know how to make them laugh better than i do. I'm so proud of every band you've been in but you'll never know. You say I cuss too much but we both know i got it from you. I love you. I don't know if I can ever tell you that I do. Are you home tonight? Dinners ready, but you're not here to have it.

i genuinely don't think a story's worldbuilding and lore has ever drawn me in the way that check please did. it's been years and i still think about it every day. the characters and plot were always superb but i think what has stuck with me the most is the depth of the settings and how everything feels so lived in and tangible. everyone wants to make a fake world and town and university but no one else has EVER done it that well

Quil i think weve reached an ascended form of mutualship where we almost exclusively interact through random replies and tags and also everytime u reblog a post of mine im assaulted with like 30 notes <3

We have followed each other for years, I've lackadaisically beta read fic for you, I've attended your livestreams, we've been by each others side unfalteringly and are very supportive of each others' other interests as we found places in separate fandoms.

and we conduct this entirely through chaotic unplanned quips, we barrel into each other head first in the middle of a the most random places every five years and only in random places. a wasteland, some random guys garage, beneath the parking lot, within a wildfire.

we never interact normally I don't even know what we'd talk about, we just see each other across the highway and go HEY! and then move on. I think it's very fun :)

I think Ghaffy would have a couple scars on his body. One of them obviously being from the Arishok fight, but also, I think the midline of his stomach too from the hemorrhage spell he does often, from constantly stabbing himself on the stomach so much 😭😭😭

I think, in light of the influx of abusive spam comments occurring on AO3 works, we should all try to be a little bit better about letting fic writers know that we liked what we read.

Sometimes I trip over myself when thinking about what to put in a comment on a fic that I liked, because I'm obsessed with sounding intelligent, or leaving "the perfect comment" (whatever the hell that means). But leaving feedback is a lot like the creative process itself, in that if you are fixated on trying to make something "perfect," then chances are you won't end up bothering to try to do the thing in the first place (likely out of fear of the thing inevitably turning out imperfect).

Not every comment needs to be a perfectly articulated analysis or review. It can be as small as copying a sentence from the fic that resonated with you and pasting it into the comment box and saying "I really liked [x]." You can expound on that if you'd like, but there's no need.

Personally I wish AO3 would roll out some kind of annotation feature, which I know would be clunky as hell in a beta phase, but would be fantastic for folks like me who like to yell in the margins (and are a bit on the amnestic side in the sense that I'll finish a work and go "this was great! I can't remember what I just read though").

But I digress. You can make a comment as simple or as complex as you'd like, anything is appreciated. The important thing is that you let them know you liked it! Writing is art, and art was meant to be interacted with. Art is a conversation, and whether you are the artist or the audience member, you are a part of it!

It seems Arenanet is cutting out a lot of the more "goofy" dialogue in the season 1 re-release to give our villainesses ( Trin and Scarlet) a more serious tone.

I'm ok with it... though I just wish Scarlet still said "Later, tater".

Only because I used it in the first story.
