do people think the hair wreath in Lot 36 was also a Nazi thing? I saw some folks on Reddit interpreting it as made from the hair of Holocaust victims
I understand the connection they may be drawing, but like...I thought Victorian hairwork had become common knowledge, at least from Buzzfeed listicles that get tiresome about how ~*SpoOoOoOky!!!!*~ it is. hair wreaths were super common in the 19th century, and super out of fashion by the 1930s/40s. the practice never entirely faded, but it became so unpopular as early as the 1920s that it nearly went extinct. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of hairwork from the mid-20th century, personally
the piece used in the show is such a textbook Victorian hairwork wreath, and there are so many other 19th-century pieces in the storage unit (including the seance table and chairs), that I honestly never considered that angle. and tbh, I still think it’s just another “creepy Victorian thing” meant to add atmosphere
EDIT: also, Agatha says she’s seen a wreath like that “many times.” Many Victorian hair wreaths, for a 70-something antiques dealer? believable! many Holocaust Victim Hair Wreaths? Much, much less believable

Chapter 36
18+ MINORS AND THOSE WITHOUT AGE IN BIO DNI
tags: @plush4bunny, @illiana-mystery, @onedirectionlovers2014
tags: swearing, the wheelers, mediums and con artists, night court spoilers
“so what’s on the docket for tonight?” I asked, swinging my legs as I sat on Wyatt’s desk. He looked over the list and shrugged.
“petty theft. Nude model fight.” I nodded at that appreciatively. “And a couple with issues with a medium…I think. It’s confusing.” Wyatt flipped through the file before looking up and frowning. “I think they’re ready to talk to you counselor.”
”we meet again Mr. Fielding.” The man said. Dan froze and looked at me with wide eyes.
“If I don’t turn around are they really there?” He asked, biting his lip as he scrunched up his nose.
“oh my god!” Abbie cried. “You’re the wheelers! My dad always talked about you guys! I have so many questions!” Dan scowled as he took his spot in front of Abbie. “What’s the charge?” Wyatt handed Abbie the file.
“Animal husbandry.” Wyatt read out. I focused on Dan, wondering what he was thinking seeing the wheelers back in court.
“as someone who’s heard your stories before can we skip the next three calamities and get to the point?” Dan complained. I giggled behind my hand and he looked over at me. The case progressed and abbie called for recess. The only thing I had really caught onto was that she wanted to see the wheelers medium to talk to her dad.
“so what was that like?” I asked as we sat down in the cafeteria. Dan groaned and let his head drop onto my shoulder.
“those poor ghosts.” He said. “Although leave it to them to get stuck with a haunted apartment. I did promise to help them get rid of it though.”
“olivia.” I said. Dan nodded.
“I can’t believe I saw the wheelers.” He shuddered before sitting back up. “Abbie has her psychic though.”
“did you tell her that?” I asked. Dan shook his head but waved her over when he saw her walk in.
“so I have some news.” He said. Abbie nodded. “You’ve got your psychic.”
“wait really?” Abbie exclaimed, almost throwing her arms around dans neck.
“I made it happen. I did a favor for the wheelers and they helped me jump the line with this Fleetwood Mac b side.” Dan said, patting her arm. “We meet in your office after session tonight.”
“what did you do?” Abbie asked, taking a seat at the table. She opened her lunch and I put a hand over my mouth. Dan looked over at me as I swallowed thickly.
“You alright?” He asked me. I nodded and waved him off as the nausea passed. “I just helped them sell their haunted brownstone.” Dan said, turning his attention back to Abbie but keeping an eye on me. As Abbie ate, the smell continued to get to me. I excused myself and headed to Abbie’s office. I opened the window and sat down. “Hey.” I turned to see Dan standing in the doorway.
“Hey.” I said back, rubbing my stomach.
“you ran out of there pretty quickly…” Dan trailed off, eyes focused on my hand movement. “Are you sure you’re alright?”
“yeah. Just not feeling well.” I said, rubbing my stomach again. Dan nodded, looking back up at my eyes.
“maybe you should see a doctor.” He said, coming to sit next to me. I leaned into him and closed my eyes.
“already have.” I mumbled. “Just a bug.” Dan nodded as he kissed my head.
“alright.” He said. “Maybe you should sit out the seance.” I nodded.
“I’ll take a nap in your office.” I said. Dan nodded. He walked me back to his office and grabbed the blanket off the back of the couch, draping it over me before kissing my head and heading towards the door.
“call me if you need me.” He said. I nodded with a smile as he left the room. The phone rang not long after and I sagged with relief at the news. Laying back down, I stared at the ceiling with a smile on my face. When I got antsy, I got up and walked back to Abbie’s office. The psychic was gone and Dan was talking to Abbie.
“Dan…” she whispered. He turned to look at her. “That was the phrase.”
“what?” He asked. “Are you telling me that I’m supposed to be Harry’s vessel?” The lights flickered and Dan quickly tried to appease whatever it was. “Alright. Alright.” The lights stayed on and Dan chuckled. “Always had to have the last word.” Abbie smiled at him and hugged his arm, leaning her head on his shoulder. I rubbed my stomach again and knocked on the door.
“hey guys.” I said. Abbie stood up and walked over to hug me. “How’d it go?”
“she was a fake. But Dan and I have come to an understanding.” She said with a smile. I nodded and watched her leave.
“so feeling better?” Dan asked as he stood up and made his way over to me.
“yeah.” I said, lost in thought.
“penny for your thoughts?” He asked, kissing my forehead.
“you know I always thought she’d be a good aunt but now I think Abbie would make a great big sister.” I said absentmindedly, bringing dans hand to my stomach.

Divination | Ouija
[Or as I keep calling it and being teased for it Luigi board] [Source]
[Take this with a grain of salt- Ouija isn't my thing]
A controversial tool, a flat board with letters/alphabet along with the words yes or no alongside a planchette, heart shaped with an eye in the centre.. Quoted as “A board that is both pure and evil.” Created several lawsuits by the Library of Congress. A supernatural tool to commune with the dead.
[Personally the board gives me the wiggies, I know people think a pendulum is the same thing. But I just think requesting the help of a friend or some spirit is different than going knees deep into dead spirits and other things. Idk I just think its different]
So. give respect. Never ask how they died. Always say goodbye. NEVER finish until they say Goodbye [although its said its leaving it open, and some say it's to be polite and close the connection its okay if they don't say goodbye…I’d rather be safe than sorry]
If the Planchette leaves the board? Burn the board. Never leave the Planchette on the board keeping the connection open for the possible spirit to leave the board.
Watch out for zozo. Or creating a figure eight. Treat it as a board game and keep calm dont bring in anxiety, or any depressive energy or thoughts.
Seven Subtitues For a Ouija Board [Source]
As a substitue You can use a Coin.
A washer coin.
A poker Chip.
Upside down shotglass. [More info Below]
Make a wood plachette etc. More info in the Link Above.
[Personally I do respect the craft/believe in ghosts and spirits a little. But sometimes its weird that ALL ghost story/sightings happen in America and possessions specifically happen in spain/mexico. Given that other countries dont have footage like in the UK for ghost sightings [we have OLD as fuck buildings older than america at least] so yeah sometimes it feels a bit huey.]
So the dangers of Ouji board?
This is the recent article for 2023.
“28 girls hospitalised with anxiety. All fainted after a ouija board had gone wrong.”
Posted March 7. 2023.
[Source]
But luckily an exorcist police officer CLAIMS girls opened a Doorway to-
[…A police officer just HAPPENS to be an exorcist? What are the odds thank god an exorcist who happens to be an OFFICER was THERE at the same time! wow thank god *sarcasm*]
“One mother complained: “I work here in a hospital kiosk and every day I see three or four children arrive after fainting.”
So kids fainting is a regular thing? Is there some health/environmental issues and they're using an occult board to cover it up. Sounds like confirmation bias and fear mongering for christian loving cultists to prove that wiccan/occult are devil worshipping sinners oh joy.
Or Group psychosis, look I love Wicca but I don’t believe in that supernatural shit, I honestly doubt it was a wooden board that caused that and instead was teens being dramatic or the school has some issues and want to hide the responsibility.

Seance
[Source Image: The Dreaming Queeniechan Manga]
A Cup Seance. A meeting. Typically with a medium or other spiritualists in which people intend to communicate with the dead.
The rituals of the seance and the medium are opening up insights into the mind, shedding light on the power of suggestion and even questioning the nature of free will.
How to perform a Seance
A ceremony to contact the dead.
To perform this ritual you will need six candles, white and purple in colour and a white cloth. In Addition you will need to sweeten the air by burning cinnamon frankincense and sandals wood. As the fire burns, concentrate on contacting the spirit and chant the spell that follows. If you know the mortal name of the deceased, adjust the chant accordingly.
Beloved unknown spirit, we seek your guidance. We ask that you commune with us and move along us.
[Humanity has been attempting to commune with the dead since ancient times. As far back as Leviticus, the Old Testament God actively forbade people to seek out mediums. Interest peaked in the 19th century, a time when religion and rationality were clashing like never before. In an era of unprecedented scientific discovery, some churchgoers began to seek evidence for their beliefs.

Table Tipping
Table tipping, or turning has gone out of fashion but is easy to replicate for four or more people, a small table. Or aka Ouji Boards Big Brother.
dim lights and a relaxed atmosphere. The group places hands on the table and wait. After 40 minutes or so the table should start to move. It soon appears to have a mind of its own, sliding, swaying and even pinning people to the walls.
The reason why household furniture can appear to be possessed was exposed more than 160 years ago by Michael Faraday, the discoverer of the link between magnetism and electricity. In 1852 Faraday was fascinated by the new craze of table tipping – and whether people or spirits were responsible. So he took bundles of cardboard roughly the size of a table top and glued them weakly together. Each sheet got progressively smaller from top to bottom, allowing Faraday to mark their original positions on the card above with a pencil. He then placed the cards on a table and asked volunteers to put their hands on the cards and let the spirits move the table to the left.
If it was spirits, the table top would slide out the cards from the bottom up. But if the participants were doing it, the top cards would be the first to move. By examining the position of the pencil marks Faraday showed that people, not spirits, moved the table.

The X-Philes: Prologue
Phil is a psychic. Dan is a detective. When Phil is visited by the ghost of his brother, he knows something isn't right. Can he and Dan solve the case, or will they become the next victims?
Rating: M
For Moe, who always believed I was a writer at heart. May 1941-May 2022
Phil.
Phil stirred, slowly blinking his eyes open, adjusting to the light streaming in from his second story bedroom window. He clenched his fists and pointed his feet, stretching out his limbs and arching his back. He pulled the blanket and bed sheet off him and sat up, twisting his body to the side so his feet rested lightly on the floor.
He glanced at the clock: 9:36 am.
Phil stretched instinctively again, yawning and scratching at the top of his head absentmindedly. He grabbed his phone off the nightstand and checked the time, then pocketed it before standing up and walking towards his door. He exited his bedroom and climbed down the stairs. At the bottom, he pushed open the curtains that separated his private living area upstairs from his business area downstairs.
Phil didn’t start accepting clients until 5pm on weekdays. He felt that the later hours of the day lended to the mystic feeling of his work: being a psychic. He also ran a bakery from his apartment where he met with clients.
On the weekends Phil operated all day, often baking up a storm for his clients. Weekends were his time to have fun with what he baked, trying out new recipes instead of during the week, where he served daily special selections of tried and true recipes. Customers often picked the day of the week for their seance depending on what the daily special was; his baked goods were included in the price package.
It was Monday, and that meant chocolate chip and blueberry muffins.
Phil put a pot of water in the coffee machine and picked out a morning coffee blend.
While it brewed, Phil moved around his small kitchen gathering the ingredients for his home-made muffins. He didn’t have a professional set-up by any means. For example, his oven could only fit one baking sheet of muffins at a time, and he was still using the hand mixer he’d bought when he first started his business venture instead of one of those all-inclusive stand mixers like you saw on display in the home goods stores. He dreamed that someday he might be able to move into an apartment located above a business space he could turn into a real bakery. For now, however, he hosted clients in his living room and baked in his kitchen.
Phil had just finished mixing together the dry ingredients for his first batch of chocolate chip muffins when he heard the coffee maker start to spit out some of that “dirty bean water”, as he liked to call it, into his mug.
Despite having such a small kitchen Phil had an array of mugs, many of them gifts from loved ones. That morning he was using one of his oldest. It was a heat-induced color changing mug that showed a sky full of stars, and when hot water was added, as were the lines that connected them to form the constellations that he and his brother, the one who gave him the mug, used to watch every night from their bedroom windows.
Holding the warm mug in his hands brought back memories of him and Martyn back at the farmhouse they’d grown up in, holding mugs of hot chocolate their mom had made them on cold winter’s mornings which they would stir with candy canes.
Phil.
There was that voice again. He realized now he had heard it earlier this morning, just before he woke up. In fact, thinking back, it was the voice that had woken him.
Phil set down the coffee mug and closed his eyes, reaching his mind out around him, searching for whoever had called his name, but there was no one. He waited a few more seconds to be sure, but eventually opened his eyes and went back to adding the wet ingredients to his muffins. If someone really needed him, they’d get ahold of him eventually.
When the first batch of muffins were in the oven he placed the mixing bowl of batter on the empty shelf in his fridge and went to sit down on his couch, pulling up a book from the coffee table in front of him.
Phil enjoyed spending these spare moments between putting things in the oven and pulling them out reading and watching tv, making a little progress each day on whatever book or show he was consuming, most often crime fiction.
The oven timer dinged, signaling that the muffins should be thoroughly cooked.
He repeated this routine for a few more hours while he cooked his muffins, much like he repeated this routine every day. It was a nice way to live. Simple.
When all the muffins were done and cooled he arranged them on his serving tray, placing the lid over the top, and then cleaned up the mess he’d made in his kitchen.
By the time he sat down once again the large hand on the clock above his fireplace had pushed past the six and was on it’s upward rotation as the shorter, hour hand hung between the one and the two.
He had about three hours to keep reading before he needed to get ready for his first client of the day.
Phil managed to go those three hours without getting another psychic message, nor did he get one as he was getting dressed and setting up his living room in preparation for company, both living and deceased.
Phil sat patiently on his couch waiting for his first appointment to show up. It wasn’t long before he heard the ring of his doorbell and was standing up to answer it.
Before him stood a short and stout woman, chubby and beautiful with blonde hair. Phil held out a hand and introduced himself as she did the same, then invited her inside.
Phil’s living room, much like his kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and, well, really any room in the house, wasn’t spacious by any stretch of the imagination. Part of the reason he was hoping for a bigger space one day was so that he and his customers wouldn’t have to cautiously edge around the large circular table Phil had shoved up in front of the fireplace as close to the wall as such a table would allow. Phil was skinny enough that when there was a need for more seats at the table he could pull it out just a little and sit himself in front of the fireplace, but it was uncomfortable, and he much preferred to sit on the side that faced his dark and dingey kitchen.
“Might I make you some coffee or tea, or perhaps pour you a glass of water or milk or juice?” Phil asked.
“Coffee sounds nice, what do you have?” she asked shyly. Phil understood people being shy on their first visit here, but eventually they all came around, and he ended up having many regulars.
“I’ll bring out what I have so you can see, and I’ll brew us both a pot,” Phil smiled. “Make yourself comfortable while I’m away; get yourself familiar with the room and its energy. It’ll be easier to work that way.”
Oftentimes he found himself wondering how many people really meant it when they said they could feel the room’s energy, but even more often he wondered if anyone else was like him. He was sure that some people on some level felt the kind of energy he did, but as far as he could tell no one had ever even come close to his level of sensitivity. As he gathered up his coffee options and brought them back over to the table he could sense that this indeed was a woman who felt things a normal amount- aka little to none. To her, the room was just a room and the energy inside it came only from her preconceived notions and the vibe of the decor instead of the room and the house itself connecting to the universe through time and space.
The woman, Martha, picked out a particular blend and Phil returned to his kitchen to start the coffee machine, filling the pot with water from the sink and returning it to its home in the bottom of the machine.
With Phil’s second cup of coffee for the day brewing he made his way back into his crowded and cluttered living room.
Martha had settled herself into one of the chairs at Phil’s round seance table.
“Would you like a blueberry or chocolate chip muffin?” he offered.
She smiled, a little more comfortable and confident. “Chocolate chip would be nice, thank you.”
Phil smiled back encouragingly and turned around.
Phil.
Phil froze, hair standing on end.
“Everything okay?” asked Martha, concerned.
Phil turned back around to face her with a warm and reassuring smile.
“Just someone from the other side trying to get in touch with me. Hopefully they don’t crash this seance,” he joked, repeating his own thoughts from earlier in the day.
Martha chuckled nervously. She wasn’t sure if she believed, Phil could tell. Well, hopefully she got something out of her time here.
The coffee finished brewing and Phil poured it into two mugs, then took down two dishes from the cabinet and loaded them up with a muffin each, picking up the plates to bring them over to the table.
Phil.
His hands wobbled, threatening to spill the muffins from the plate. Phil took a deep breath and steadied them. He wasn’t used to this level of persistence. He made his way over to Martha and placed a plate in front of her and a plate at his seat at the round table. Then he went back for the coffee.
Sitting at the table, they took a sip of their coffee together before Phil started.
“Do you have a preference of means of contact? Spirit board, spirit box, knocking or a flashlight or things like that for a yes/no conversation?”
“Oh, um… what does a spirit box do?”
Phil took another sip from his mug before getting up to stand in front of the shelf, taking down the spirit box.
“It’s like a little radio that spirits can talk through. It can be loud and rather obnoxious. It takes a fair amount of concentration to work through the static to pick up the message. Well, not that much, but- erm, would you like me to just turn it on quickly for you to see?”
Martha agreed and on the spirit box went, Phil adjusting the knobs on the front of the device until it hit a low steady roar of static. After a moment, he shut it off.
“I see what you mean,” Martha commented. “Maybe start off with something else?”
“Got it,” Phil smiled, and placed the spirit box back on the shelf.
“Here, let’s try this.”
Phil pulled a small, thin flashlight from the shelf and handed it over to Martha.
“I’ll let you get a feel for how this flashlight functions before we use it. I’ll get the lights.”
While Phil was flicking the switch to the lights in his living room Martha was testing out the flashlight, turning it on and off, pushing up the lever slowly to see how much force it took for the light to turn on and off. Letting the customer handle the objects Phil used reassured them that he wasn’t a fraud. He never blamed anyone who thought he was, though. Without whatever mystic connection Phil had to the other side, he wasn’t sure what he’d believe himself.
Darkness sitting heavy upon their shoulders, Phil returned to the table and grabbed his stash of candles, his lighter, and his summoning circle table spread.
“We’re going to open a typical seance session, candles, talking, closing eyes and holding hands-” Phil trailed off, assuming she understood his point.
Phil placed the summoning circle table cloth on top of the table and then placed six candles around the edges at the points, speaking as he lit them.
“Is there anyone here who would like to talk to us? We are inviting you into our circle to speak with us.”
Phil took Martha’s hands into his own.
The candles flickered.
The flashlight remained off.
“Is there anyone here who would like to speak with us?”
The candles flickered.
The flashlight remained off.
“If there’s anyone here can you turn on this flashlight?”
The candles flickered.
The flashlight remained off.
“We’ll give them a minute,” Phil said. “Don’t be afraid to ask questions yourself. When the time comes I’ll let you know and you can ask if the spirit of the person you’re reaching out to is near. Just keep focusing your energy on them, and I’ll focus mine on channeling.”
They rested in silence a few moments before Phil spoke up again.
“If there’s anyone here can you turn on the flashlight?”
The candles flickered.
The hair on the back of Phil’s neck stood on end.
The flashlight flickered.
Martha let out a little gasp of air.
“Can you turn the flashlight on?” Phil repeated.
The flickering lessened as the light emanating from the flashlight grew steadily brighter. It wasn’t as stable as flicking the switch and leaving it on would be, but it hesitated, as if the lever was so hard to push, and it was taking everything the spirit had just to shine the light.
As quickly as it appeared it disappeared.
“Is there a spirit here named…?”
Phil trailed off and looked at Martha.
“Mary?”
The slightest flickering of the flashlight.
“Mary if you’re here can you turn on the flashlight?”
The flashlight turned on.
“Mary, if you’re willing to talk to us through the spirit board, can you turn the flashlight off please?”
The feeling of the presence of Mary was growing stronger, strong enough Phil felt like she might be able to use the ouija board.
The flashlight turned off and Phil released Martha’s hands, leaning back in his chair to grab the ouija board off the shelf.
The candles flickered.
Phil and Martha placed their fingers on the spirit board’s planchette and he felt the familiar tingling in his body and feeling in his bones that he got when there was a ghost near.
Phil dragged the planchet to “Hello” and then rested it back on the space under the letters.
Martha looked at Phil expectantly but Phil nodded at her.
“Mary? Are you doing okay?”
The two waited. Then so slowly, as if they weren’t sure it was even happening at all until the planchet settled on “Yes”, Mary moved the piece on the board.
Phil pulled the piece back gently.
“Mary? Is mom there too? Have you spoken with her? Is she good?”
“One question at a time,” Phil reminded her softly.
Martha nodded and asked again if Mary was with their mother.
Once again the planchet dragged itself painfully slow towards the word “Yes”.
Once again Phil dragged it back.
“Is she good?”
With baited breath they waited for the planchet to move, however, instead of moving up towards the yes, it started to spell out a word.
S
A
D
“Mom is sad?”
Mary answered yes once again.
“Why is mom sad?”
M
E
“Mom is sad that you’re up there with her?”
Another yes.
A tear spilled down Martha’s cheek, the light of the candles catching it.
“The kids are sad you’re up there too. They miss you and they love you.”
L

V
E
“Yeah,” Martha chuckled sadly.
There was a moment of silence.
“Is that all?” Phil asked.
Martha nodded sadly, knowing there was not much else she could do. Nothing she could try would bring her sister back to her, and there was nothing saving her kids from growing up without their mom. It had been nice to talk to her, just once more though.
“Mary, we’re going to go now. Is that okay?”
“Tell mom I love her.”
YES.
Phil slowly brought the planchet down to “Goodbye” and then off the board towards him, flipping the board face-down.
“We are now banishing spirits from our space. Go back to the other side.”
The tingling in Phil’s fingers lessened, and as he snuffed out the candles, it stopped completely.
He stood up and turned the lights back on.
Another one done.
*-*-*-*-*
Phil’s last clients of the night left with a wave.
He shut the front door and watched through the window as they walked to their cars, waiting for them to get in and leave safely before turning off his outdoor light and locking the door.
Phil cleaned up his living room and kitchen before making his way upstairs to his living area. It was there he got ready for bed.
It’d been so long since anything had happened that Phil had nearly forgotten about the voice in his head- that was, he had forgotten until placing his head down on his pillow and closing his eyes, when he heard the voice again.
Phil.
Phil blinked his eyes open. He knew that voice, how had he not recognised it sooner?
Phil sat up and stared at the edge of his bed.
“Martyn?”

💝🏳️🌈 ☂️
Send a symbol to ask the Admiral a question.
💝 - What gestures do they really appreciate? How do you get on their good side?
I appreciate anything that either helps me stay awake or (on very rare occasions) nap undisturbed. There was one person in my life who let me fall asleep in their AT-AT after a 36-hour shift on the bridge. The same person also threw ice cold water at me so Grand Moff Tarkin wouldn’t catch me sleeping during my subsequent 48-hour shift. Both gestures meant a lot to me, albeit in different ways.
I also appreciate it when people thank me for sacrificing my life and sanity to the Empire, which happened exactly 0 times on the Executor.
Besides that, I’d say anyone who demonstrates responsibility and earns their status without nepotism is on my “good side”.
🏳️🌈 - What do they identify as? What are their pronouns?
I’m gay. I go by he/him/his pronouns. (I actually had a pride pin to latch onto my code cylinder back when I was alive. Unfortunately, I was not wearing it at the time of my death. But if anyone can find a way to send it to me over seance, that would be much appreciated. I quite liked it. My nephew gave it to me.)
☂️ - How do they feel about rain?
I’m quite neutral to it, so long as it’s not to the extent of the rain on Kamino. Or Mustafarian lava rain. (Yes, the latter is real. I’ve experienced it firsthand. It’s horrifying.)

Blíží se výsledky společnosti Intel za 2. čtvrtletí - bude se trh s PC čipy dále zhoršovat? 🔌

What episode of Cabinet of Curiosities have you enjoyed the most? I think for me it's "The Outside", I love the Lynch-ian vibes.
I liked Lot 36 best! Partly because it's rather Satisfying in its conclusion, but mostly because I can interpret it as another entry in what I've termed the Del Toro Buffalo Cinematic Universe.
I have a theory that Crimson Peak and his Nightmare Alley adaptation are set in the same universe (based on their shared partial setting in Buffalo, New York, as well as some other commonalities), and I love the idea of adding another entry to the "canon." Especially with such fabulous characters as Agatha and Roland, whom I adore.
the one thing I dislike about it is more a fan issue- the way a lot of people interpret Roland as a Nazi based on what I feel is sketchy evidence. the hair wreath, for example; hairwork was unpopular almost to the point of nonexistance by the 1930s and 40s. Agatha couldn't possibly have seen pieces of that vintage "many times," since barely any existed. but it was HUGELY popular during the Victorian era, and there were other 19th-century objects in the storage unit, like the seance table. so while I understand the logic in assuming that "human hair + Nazis = came from Holocaust victims," I really doubt that's what the show is trying to imply. plus, he condemns the Wolmars for their wartime activities, saying that they supplied metal to "the wrong side"
one may interpret fiction however one wishes. personally, I'm team Roland Is Not A Nazi

Oct 24th Guillermo Del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities E 1
Lot 36 & Graveyard Rats
Tim Blake Nelson plays a disgruntled white vet during the Bush Sr. Administration who listens to con talk radio and is mean to senior citizens latinas
He is broke in debt and buys random storage units for cash
He lands a unit in which inevitably nazi gold but also occult shit
Gets a lead from a nice guy (which he is ungrateful for) to a real collector instead of a 5 and dime because he is on the hook for big money and somebody roughed him up in the storage unit lot (loan shark goon)
Takes a seance table and 3 volumes which turn out to be peak occult shit to the buyer who in turn calls another buyer who will pay BIG money more than anybody would need back in year whatever access a fuck ton today
To locate vol no 4 and sell the whole set (even though the first three he is like 92% square with the loan shark tbc he still has an entire unit to sort through he could sell the other shit for 5bucks a pop till he made the difference he there was plenty with the 3 books to cover even with his tight deadline
They go back to the until to find book no 4 on the way the buyer talks the history of the books which include a missing sister
They bang around in the unit find a secret room (smol) it is a storage until
Containing none other then book no 4 the corpse of the Sister carrying a demon locked in a , you guessed it pentagram trap which as we all know requires a salt circle
The buyer warns him off choosing the circle, taking the book ( now that he sees it is being currently used to lock down a demon ) but of course he wants money and the demon busts out
Classic moralistic tale
TBN is his classic jaded asshole who hints at vulnerability just below the surface
The graphics are solid the intro has elaborate on theme cabinet of mystery figurines and leather bound volumes
Background on the show it's an anthology series completely different era, concepts, directors,
