June nodded with a shrug, pointing her thumb over her shoulder towards the zebras’ pin, “Oh yes; Jack and Jill were a part of the same circus that Minnie came from.” They were used as liberty horses, and then kept in a small trailer whenever they weren’t performing. The rescue organization that Albert volunteered for had instantly called the Walkers, and told them of the situation whenever the circus had planned to make a stop in Selcouth. With the right amount of persuasion, meaning a lot of Albert being intimidating and some brute force, the circus owner had allowed them to take the animals from him.
She was about to mention this to Tony, but the feeling of his phone buzzing in his discarded pocket against the metal of the fence distracted her. His comment about having to leave soon caused a small frown to appear on her face. This was the second time that their time together was being cut short by his phone going off, but June could understand that business, especially in their lines of work, came before anything else. Feeling the warmth of his body next to hers, June was about to suggest that he blows off whoever keeps calling him and come get a drink with her instead, but he spoke again before she could.
Blinking rapidly, taken back from his confession, June turned her head to look at him. Being close enough to see the flecks of green amongst his hazel eyes, she also noticed a patch of dirt from Beatrice on his cheek. She reached up and rubbed the dirt away; her fingertips lingering on the feeling of his skin and rough stubble. Her eyes flickered to his lips as she placed her hand into her lap and smiled down at him, “Then why don’tcha stop thinking about it so much and just kiss me?”
---
James was pulled out of his petty scrolling by the sound of Collins’ yelp, and before he could react, Albert was already making his way across the enclosure towards Collins and the massive horse. Albert let out a low whistle, which Margarete was trained to listen for, as well as snatched the reins from Collins’ hand as Margarete slowed enough for him to do so.
Bringing the horse to a complete stop, Albert used his hand to wipe his smile away from his face but his eyes betrayed him, filled with amusement, “Well, I wouldn’t sign up for the rodeo any time soon, if I were you.” James had made his way over to them, as Albert reached out to pull Collins from the horse, setting her easily onto her own two feet. James scowled at Albert’s comment, but ignored the man, checking Collins over for injury with a glance.
Finding none, James nodded his head towards the exit, “Let’s go.” He turned his attention back to Albert, “How much do I owe you?”
Albert was already shaking his head, and waved the question off with a “No te preocupes por eso - don’t worry about it,” before repeating the phrase in English. “No offense ma’am,” he chuckled, “but I don't really feel right about charging you for that.”
---
Once the performance was over and there was a lull period before the talent show began, the girls rushed from the stage to where Veronica was. They were a flurry of excited voices talking over each other, jumping ten year olds, and colorful, flowy costumes. Veronica’s eyes had widened at the onset attack of prepubescent squeals, but laughed and congratulated them for a job well done.
“Go on now, pequeños monstruos - little monsters,” Johnnie clapped and shooed them all away with his hands, “Go find your parents and let Miss Veronica breathe; you all will see her on Monday.”
Veronica gave Johnnie a small glance of gratitude over top of their heads before the girls, all but Analise, dispersed and she returned her attention to Damian. She had not seen the older woman next to him arrive, and it was easy to put things together that she had to be his mother. Feeling incredibly inadequate in the presence of someone who looked as though she was a renaissance painting come to life, she chewed on the inside of her bottom lip and tucked her hair behind her ear.
She didn't want to overstep and introduce herself, as she still was unclear of her feelings towards Damian, as well as his towards her, but she also didn't want to come across as rude. So instead, she gave her a polite smile and a small wave. She contemplated quietly excusing herself, but something in her mind told her to stay put. Instead, she pulled her phone out of her bag to see if Collins had tried to message her, and was faced with seventeen missed calls from her grandmother and several unknown numbers. She grimaced at the sight as she felt the anxiety building in her chest and her heart rate accelerating.
---
Atticus’ eyebrows rose as Wendy placed a hand on his thigh, and was about to retaliate, except his phone began going off in his pocket. Cursing it underneath his breath, he looked at her apologetically before pulling it out to look at it. Finn’s name flashed across the screen, and he groaned, remembering that he was supposed to bring documents to Lane’s Sweets tonight for the Javachis.
“Yeah?” he answered, pushing a finger into his other ear to be able to hear through the noises of the crowd and music below.
He could hear Finn’s exasperated frown through the tone of his voice, “Don’t yeah me, kid; it’s been a long day.” Atticus rolled his eyes towards the sky at the comment but said nothing as Finn continued, “I’ve got the account sheets, and the bastards are right; there is someone skimming from the top.”
Atticus glanced over at Wendy out of the corner of his eye, wondering if she was able to hear Finn on the other side. “Shit,” Atticus rubbed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose, “What are we going to do?”
There was a long pause of silence on the other end before Finn answered, “We find out who it is, and take care of it.” He sighed, the noise irritating Atticus’ ear drum, “What’s all that noise? Aren’t you headed here?”
“Well, I'm currently on the ferris wheel in the middle of the fairground, so no, not really,” Atticus looked once more over at Wendy, trying to gauge her facial expression. He felt bad for taking a work call in their day, and he certainly did not want to end it to have to go meet up with the Javachis’ errand boy, or whomever they were planning on sending. “But uhm,” he scratched at the stubble on his chin, “the last I saw, our new friends were also here, if you wanted to pay them a visit yourself.”
He heard Finn make a noise in the back of his throat, which Atticus only could describe as a huff, “Fine, tell Wendy I said hello.”
And with that, the line went dead, and Atticus was left staring at his phone, feeling like an idiot, “I think he just hung up on me.”
---
“Hm?” Noah turned her head to look back at Olly, pulled out of her own thoughts; her eyebrows wrinkled to create a small v in between them, “Oh yeah, sure; that sounds great.” Arriving at her truck, she pushed the unlock button on her key fob before opening the back door for Germ to jump into the small backseat. She climbed into the driver side and waited for Olly to get in before starting the truck.
Sitting behind the wheel, Noah felt the trembling return to her hands and she ran her palms against her pants to try to rid herself of the feeling. Gripping onto the steering wheel to try to appear some form of normal, Noah put the truck into reverse and began driving out of the parking lot. She felt like a failure for running from her problems, and she could nearly hear her father’s voice echoing his classic ‘Emotions will only make things worse’ saying in the back of her mind.
Realizing that she was going to give Oliver an aneurysm if she worried him anymore than she already had, she sighed. “Olly,” she began, chewing on the inside of her cheek contemplating if she should say what she wanted to say next. Deciding against it, she turned out of the parking lot and onto Main Street before continuing, “If you knew that something bad was going to happen and that you had no control over it, would you still try to stop it?”

The Apache dancer, Miss Beatrice Collins. Sir Oswald Joseph Hornby Birley (English, 1880-1954). Oil on canvas.
La Danse Apache is a highly dramatic dance associated in popular culture with Parisian street culture at the beginning of the 20th century. The name of the dance is taken from the term for Parisian underworld of the time. The dance is sometimes said to reenact a violent "discussion" between a pimp and a prostitute. It includes mock slaps and punches.

DEATH ON THE NILE
by shy.one (ao3)
The year is 1927 and Fleamont Potter has been lured out of his potions’ workshop to attend the wedding tour of his dear friend Dorian Longbottom and Dorian’s new, mildly insufferable wife Augusta. Joined by Augusta’s equally insufferable elder brother and Floo Network director Collin Finch, and her best friend Beatrice Boot, a young rising star at the Ministry of Magic, the two-week voyage aboard the SS Karnak steamship is bound for adventure.
But the pleasure cruise is swiftly revealed to be the journey from hell as one of their number is brutally murdered aboard the ship. Fleamont is suddenly responsible for finding the killer, joined by the lovely Miss Euphemia Misra, daughter of a Bombay apothecary trading mogul. In addition to their wedding party, the steamship is also host to the notorious heiress Sabella Malfoy and her cousin, one of the wealthiest wizards in Britain, Alphard Black, meaning there is no end to the suspect list.
Yes, the year is 1927 and there has been a death on the River Nile.

Pride & Prejudice fic recs Part 3
Miss de Bourgh in Bath by SwordSwallower17 words: 120204
After Mr. Darcy takes the thoroughly unsuitable Miss Bennet to be his wife, a most seriously displeased Lady Catherine and her daughter repair to Bath in search of new prospects. What adventures await Anne in the exciting spa city?
Personal addition: I absolutely love it, might be one of my favorite in the whole fandom. All of the OCs are amazing. And it has two sequels:
The Miss Bennets Set Forth and The Last Miss Bennet
Kitty Comes Into Her Own by Nadia81 words: 91422
Kitty and Lydia have a falling out a few months before the events of P&P. Catherine Bennet thus decides to become her own person. What will this change for her and the rest of the family?
Personal addition: The OMCs of Lord Stafford is delightful, the whole family is delightful. And likewise Lord Haddington is a very pleasant surprise.
A Bit of Advice by DJ Clawson words: 50621
Three days before his wedding, Bingley goes to the only man who can give him the advice he needs: the unfortunate Mr. Darcy.
Snowbound with Darcy by Caitlin Marie Carrington words: 39013
What's worse than being trapped, alone, in the middle of a blizzard? Being trapped with Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy!
A Pragmatic Friendship by Allison OM words: 29644
The story of Mrs. Charlotte Collins, Miss Mary Bennet, all of the Wickham children and Longbourn’s entail. Women’s road to independence, chosen family and true friendship make up almost 10 years of Austen’s overlooked characters’ life.
Personal addition: That story is unique and wonderful. I adore everything about it.
Miss Bennet's Adventure by nem tudom words: 26799
This is a short three-part story. With her older sisters married, Mary Bennet finds herself the focus of her mother's matchmaking machinations. Relief comes with the arrival of a letter from Lizzy inviting her to Pemberley.
Passion and Prudence by Eliza Donelittle words: 25307
Mary Bennet has decided to marry well but her resolution wavers when she meets Mr. Dane until an overheard conversation. Then she goes to Pemberley where Sir Eustace Watkins proposes to her. She accepts but will happen next?
The Trials and Triumphs of the Unmarried Sister by Eliza49 words: 16524
In which the author invites the reader to consider the plight of Caroline Bingley.
Compromised by Proxy by MightierThanTheToothbrush words: 11279
The best way to get beyond your own pride and prejudice, and find your happy ever after, is to get Mrs Bennet involved. Everything is better when we compromise.
Personal addition: What is even going on in this story? Mrs. Bennet is something else I swear to God.
Far Above Rubies by Beatrice Otter words: 5379
All in all, it was a highly eligible match and Mary was quite pleased with herself for securing it. She might wish Mr. Collins paid more attention to his scriptures and the writings of the great theologians than to the edicts of Lady Catherine, but Mary's own scholarship in that area was more than sufficient to remedy the lack.
Gossip Requited by prhood words: 3841
Elizabeth chooses, after returning from Hunsford, not to remain silent about Wickham's dissolute behaviour.
Of Books and Ballrooms by Courtney621 words: 3341
The Darcys meet a new couple at a ball; Fitzwilliam does not find them terrible.
Personal addition: Somehow I accidentally found some p&p smut that was either really well written and fun to read or too ridiculous not to recommend to others. So there you go with the stories below.
Anticipation by TillySnape words: 20877
Darcy tries to be respectful of his betrothed, but Elizabeth has learned just how tempting he finds her... and she doesn’t want to wait.  Follow the fun and games of their engagement period; from anticipating their vows to taking their vows, with helpful (and not so helpful) input from family and friends.
But I Should Like It All The Same by Pepperweb words: 8628
A tispy Charles Bingley reveals that he's never even kissed a woman. He requests an education in matters of intimacy and, with a bit of persuasion, Darcy obliges to instruct him.
Curiosity by muse_oleum words: 5084
Elizabeth accidentally walks in on Mr Darcy minding his own business... in the bath. She's naturally curious and so, obviously has a thing or two to investigate.

Book Recs
Hello! so for my first post, I'll recommend some books, so y'all can have a closer look at some fandoms I'll post about! enjoy!!
1.
Tumblr media
Harry Potter By J.K. Rowling is definitely an interesting, well-written series! there are 7 books however, and the books get bigger as the series progresses. It's sometimes difficult to know the exact order, so I'll list it below:
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone)
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Although the movies are great, they don't include all the amazing details, as with all movies. A short summary:
Harry Potter, a young boy who’s being constantly abused by his uncle Vernon and aunt Petunia, gets a peculiar letter from the magical school of Hogwarts, where he spends most of his time, becoming his home.
Quotes:
“To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure." ― Albus Dumbledore
“You’re just as sane as I am" - Luna Lovegood
“Mischief managed" - Fred and George Weasley
It is Important to know that j*r is a huge transphobe, along with other things, and is currently being erased by the fandom itself.
2.
Tumblr media
Percy Jackson and the Olympians, along with the other series by Rick Riordan, is a definite must-read. With each book, you can really notice the character developments and a lot more! There is loads of representation in this one, with lgbtqia+ characters, black characters, Muslim characters and more. It's very action-packed and addicting, sucking you into the magnificent world of Half-Bloods and Demigods within the first page. The first series consists of 5 books, in the following order:
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters
Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse
Percy Jackson and the Battle of The Labyrinth
Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian
THE MOVIES ARE TRASH SO I DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND WATCHING THEM BEFORE READING THE BOOKS!!! There were many changes and the movies aren't nearly as good as the books. A short summary:
Percy Jackson, a 12 year-old who lives with his mother, Sally, and step-father, Gabe, attends the private boarding school Yancy Academy. While on a school trip, his teacher, Mrs. Dodds, turns into a fury and attacks him. This, in turn, triggers a series of other problems and adventures.
Quotes:
“If my life is going to mean anything, I have to live it myself.” - Percy Jackson
“With great power, comes great need to nap. Wake me up later." - Nico Di Angelo
“Even strength has to bow down to wisdom sometimes." - Annabeth Chase
3.
Tumblr media
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is one of my most recommended series! With everything it deals with, from the Capitol to the districts to the champions, the books are amazing!
Order:
The Hunger Games
Catching Fire
Mockingjay
Starring the movies is the amazing Jennifer Lawrence, but with all books, the movies have slight differences, although I definitely recommend watching them when you're done with the books.
A Short Summary:
In what was once North America, the Capitol of Panem maintains its hold on its 12 districts by forcing them each to select a boy and a girl, called Tributes, to compete in a nationally televised event called the Hunger Games. Every citizen must watch as the youths fight to the death until only one remains. District 12 Tribute Katniss Everdeen has little to rely on, other than her hunting skills and sharp instincts, in an arena where she must weigh survival against love.
(FILM SYNOPSIS)
Quotes:
"May the odds be ever in your favor." - Effie Trinket
"Fire is catching, and if we burn, you burn with us!" - Katniss Everdeen
“Hope is the only thing stronger than fear.” - President Snow
4.
Tumblr media
Divergent is another book with a huge fandom, and rightfully so. This book is amazing, and you honestly can't live without having read it!
Order:
Divergent
Insurgent
Allegiant
Surprisingly, I haven't watched the movies yet, but I hear that they aren’t that bad, so you should give them a go!
Summary:
In a world run by fictional classes known as factions, children who reach the age of 16 begin to choose which factions they wish to call home for the rest of their lives. Each faction comes with its own ups and downs, so it's definitely a hard choice, especially for someone as unique as Beatrice.
Quotes:
“Becoming fearless isn't the point. That's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it“ - Four
“We believe in ordinary acts of bravery, in the courage that drives one person to stand up for another.” - Dauntless Motto
"We are not the same. But we are, somehow, one." - Tris
5.
Tumblr media
You might have heard of this series, and it's really addictive, trust me! The Mortal Instruments is one of the most astonishing books I've ever read, and it's most definitely my go-to when recommending a book series!
Order:
City of Bones
City of Ashes
City of Glass
City of Fallen Angels
City of Lost Souls
City of Heavenly Fire
Again, (I know this is rather disappointing) I haven't watched the movies, but do check them out!
Summary:
Clary Fray's search for her missing mother leads her into an alternate New York called Downworld, filled with mysterious faeries, hard-partying warlocks, not-what-they-seem vampires, an army of werewolves, and the demons who want to destroy it all.
via: https://shadowhunters.com/shadowhunters-novels/the-mortal-instruments/#:~:text=Clary%20Fray's%20search%20for%20her,want%20to%20destroy%20it%20all.
Quotes:
“Heroes aren't always the ones who win. They're the ones who lose, sometimes. But they keep fighting, they keep coming back. They don't give up. That's what makes them heroes.” - Clary Fairchild
“If I cannot move Heaven, I will raise Hell.” - Sebastion Morgenstern
“The descent into Hell is easy.” - Motto of the Nephilim
6.
Tumblr media
Gay. What more needs to be said?
SADLY, there isn't a movie yet, but I think they're working on one, or sure though
Summary:
Set in a world in which a female Democrat from Texas wins the presidency in 2016, Red, White & Royal Blue chronicles the illicit romance between the president's son, Georgetown senior Alex Claremont-Diaz (Dad is a Mexican-American senator), and Prince Henry of Wales, his childhood nemesis.
Via: https://www.wsj.com/articles/red-white-royal-blue-book-summer-beach-read-11565285001#:~:text=Set%20in%20a%20world%20in,of%20Wales%2C%20his%20childhood%20nemesis.
Also, classic enemies-friends-lovers arc and honestly it's amazing
Quotes:
“As your mother, I can appreciate that maybe this isn’t your fault, but as the president, all I want is to have the CIA fake your death and ride the dead-kid sympathy into a second term.” - Ellen Claremont
" 'that’s because you can’t hear all the menacing gobbling.' 'Yes, famously the most sinister of all animal sounds, the gobble.' " - Harry and Alex
"History, huh? Bet we could make some." - Alex
7.
Tumblr media
I’m sure you've heard at least a little bit about this book. While not nearly as famous as ones mentioned above, it's still just as good, of not better. I'd say this book is one of my favorites, to be honest. It speaks about a lot of topics people usually find disturbing, and it makes me so happy that it's there, it's written, it's amazing. PTSD, coming out issues, abusive relationships and more, this book is truly awesome.
TRIGGER WARNING
Summary:
A young boy named Charlie usually dissociates, and pushes other people away. He’s afraid of beginning high school, until he meets two other students who show him how bizarre and amazing the world is.
Quotes:
“And in that moment, I swear we were infinite” - Charlie
“We accept the love we think we deserve” - Mr. Anderson

This book is honestly pro-feminist and I think that's much more than enough
Summary:
Kaur explores the true impact of sexual abuse and harassment, as well as the difficulties of immigrating, being a female, and depression.
It's also a poem
TRIGGER WARNING
Quotes:
“what is stronger
than the human heart
which shatters over and over
and still lives”
“you do not just wake up and become the butterfly
- growth is a process”
“on the last day of love
my heart cracked inside my body"

This book isn't very well-known, which really sucks because I really love how it speaks about the consequences of WWII from the German point of view. And about the Germans who did not believe in Hitler's ways. It's also based on a real story, and it's so cool
Summary:
A nurse working in a nursing home meets a peculiar old lady who decides to tell her her story when she meets the nurse's younger son, Karl, who reminded her of her brother. Lizzie (the old lady) speaks about life in Dresden before the war, and even after it. She also tells them the story about the strange, magnificent elephant in her garden.
Quotes:
“That was the only way of keeping our hopes alive, by looking beyond all we were seeing around us, and the shadow of disaster that hung over us.” -
“I think I have always had a strong sense of justice, of fair play, of what is right and what is wrong.” -
“Our home should be an oasis of peace and harmony for us in a troubled world.” - Lizzie (Quoting Papi)

This book is pro-blm and it's ahead of its time (by like 2 years but still).
Summary:
Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. via: https://socialjusticebooks.org/the-hate-u-give/#:~:text=Sixteen%2Dyear%2Dold%20Starr%20Carter,hands%20of%20a%20police%20officer.
Quotes:
“Sometimes you can do everything right and things will still go wrong. The key is to never stop doing right.” - Lisa
“Daddy once told me there’s a rage passed down to every black man from his ancestors, born the moment they couldn’t stop the slave masters from hurting their families. Daddy also said there’s nothing more dangerous than when that rage is activated.” - Starr
“Everybody wants to talk about how Khalil died,” I say. “But this isn’t about how Khalil died. It’s about the fact that he lived. His life mattered. Khalil lived!” I look at the cops again. “You hear me? Khalil lived!” - Starr

Beautiful, Veronica froze at the word. Had he just called her beautiful? She waited for the ‘but’ that she was sure would follow, but as the seconds passed, there was nothing but the sounds of the fair going on around them. Although she had not been in this scenario regularly, she had experienced several similar. ‘I think you're really nice,’ or ‘sweet;’ there had even been a, ‘pretty okay looking,’ but all of them had added the ‘but,’ and never, not once, had anyone ever called her beautiful. Realizing that she was sitting there with her mouth slightly open, Veronica adjusted the way she was sitting so that she could give him her full attention.
Feeling as though he may need some prompting to continue, she tilted her head a smidge and spoke with her hands as she said, “This is where you say, ‘But,’ and then continue your sentence.” It wasn’t as though she did not return the sentiment; she had known she was attracted to him the first time she had met him. But she really did not have any clue on who this man was, other than the fact that he was friends with James and looked as though he had stepped out of one of the romance novels on her bookshelf.
Perhaps he was on some sort of hard substance, or maybe his mother had dropped him on his head on several occasions. Veronica could see either of those to be valid reasons as to why he had said what he did. Maybe there was something that he wanted from her; she could see where it could play a factor, but what was she comparatively? Despite the idea that Damian had been truthful with her so far, she had a hard time accepting his statement. And despite all of these doubts, there was a small feeling of hope that kept her heart beating, and stopped her from making a run for the hills.
---
James took the opportunity to get away from the Walker woman and Tony, and followed after Albert. He was beginning to remember the negatives that came along with pursuing a relationship again with Collins. For example, her jealousy towards any other woman who breathed in his direction was something that he had not missed. While he could see where she may have taken what June had said incorrectly, James also thought that Collins was overreacting. Once they were over by the horses, he stepped back against the fence line and leaned against it. Deciding that he was going to play into her game, James pulled his phone from his pocket and scrolled through various social media.
Albert realized that he was in the middle of a lovers’ spat too late, and he cursed June in his head for placing him in the situation. He had put out his cigar before coming over to help them, and he was regretting his choices, craving the sweet satisfaction of nicotine. Feeling bad for Margarete, the horse, he patted her long neck before helping the woman into the saddle. “Have you ever ridden a horse before?” he asked, holding onto the reins, happy that the woman had chosen a gentle, patient horse.
---
June felt the flush that flashed across her chest, and began crawling its way up her neck. “Dios mío,” she murmured as she watched him greet Beatrice, the pot bellied pig. Her eyes traced the veins in his hands until they disappeared up underneath his dress shirt. She sucked in a breath, as she unashamedly allowed her eyes to roam the expanse of his chest, and suppressed a primal urge to allow her tongue the same courtesy from navel to collarbone. She had to look away from him to get rid of the thought.
Get your shit together, June, she told herself before making her way over to Beatrice’s gate, and instead of entering, she climbed the fencing nearby, giving him full view of her best asset and as her shirt rose up her back, a glimpse at the small script tattooed at the base of her spine. Sitting perched on the top of the fence, she motioned for him to enter the pin, “If you want to ruin your suit, go right ahead, Mister Big Italian Man; I will have a good view from up here.” She crossed her legs, and tossed her hair over her shoulder to stop it from getting into her face.
---
Spinning to face Olly as he got her attention, Noah looked into his face, pleading for him to understand. Whenever she only found confusion and his concern for her, Noah scrubbed her free hand down her face and then through her hair, gripping it in between her fingers. She glanced past him towards the parked cars that lined the fairgrounds parking lot, and bit her lip before looking him in the eyes. “Look Oliver,” she started but paused, not really knowing how to get her scattered thoughts out, “I can’t really explain why yet, and if I did, you would think that I was fucking crazy.”
A hysterical laugh escaped her lips before she cut it off to continue, “I mean, I feel a little crazy.” She knew that she was not making any clear sense, and that it was only making matters worse, but she couldn’t stop the words coming out of her mouth, “But I need you to trust me when I say stay the hell away from Collins and that tall, freak of nature..” Her voice rose as her hands threw themselves in the air, “I mean, have you seen the muscles on that guy?! Like does he eat metabolic steroids for breakfast or something?!” She had to take a deep breath to calm her heart rate, as she felt Germ’s nervous energy radiating at her side. “Just, stay away from them,” she finished as Germ nudged her hand with his snout. She used the soft fur on his ear to calm her, as she rubbed it.

The official portraits from Prince Philip’s christening are here!
Just one day after the royal christening, Rennes Palace released the formal photograph, taken by Pierre Hardin in the Morning Room at Rennes Palace after the ceremony, according to a statement from the palace.
The photo includes the Crown Princess Grace holding her son Prince Philip, Andrew, the Duke of Cannes, Lady Beatrice beside her daughter, Miss Hattie Townsend the duke’s sister, Her Majesty the Queen, and the godparents, Lord Bryant of Cheshire and his fiancée Nina Camille of Rivera.
Royal fans speculated that good friends of the couple, Collin and Rose Easton, would be the godparents, but the Duke and Duchess surprised everyone with their decision.
Princess Grace is wearing all white with a personal touch of the handmade necklace gifted to her by the Prime Minister of Sulani, Mikel Ohanian. He said it would bring good fortune.
Prince Philip is wearing the traditional royal christening robe, worn by the late King George and Queen Silvia at their christenings.

Best underrated books/series that shaped my childhood, and what they’re about
-The Septimus Heap series: Kind of like medieval Harry Potter, with wizards, quests, disturbing creatures, and loveable characters. By Angie Sage
-The Underland Chronicles: Follows the adventures of a boy named Gregor and his sister Boots who both fall down a laundry grate into a world with very pale people and giant animals like cockroaches, mice, and bats. Very dark: murder, violent deaths, used the phrase “carpet of corpses”, and has literal fucking MOUSE GENOCIDE. By Suzanne Collins
-The Ghosthunters: Tells the story of a kid named Tom who hunts evil ghosts with a woman named Hetty Hissup and an ASG (averagely spooky ghost) named Hugo. A bit spooky, very much so during the last book, but very fun. Hard to find in print (I’ve tried), but you can find the audiobooks on Overdrive for free. By Cornelia Funke
-Half Magic: A story about 4 siblings who find a magic charm that grants wishes, but by halfs. They get into deep shit before they find that out. Pretty entertaining, funny and lighthearted. No big villains or deaths. By Edward Eager
- The Sisters Grimm: 2 sisters, Sabrina and Daphne Grimm became orphans when their parents went missing. They’ve been shipped around from family to family, and finally come to live with their grandmother in a sleepy town. However, they find out that they’re related to the Brothers Grimm and the town is full of fairytale characters, who pretty much all hate their guts. Sounds like it would be cliche, but it isn’t. Can be very dark sometimes. By Michael Buckley
-The 39 Clues: Dan and Amy Cahill have lived with their Great Aunt Beatrice since their parents died in a fire. After their grandmother Grace dies, they discover that they’re part of the most influential family in the world. But Grace had a contest set up: a race for 39 clues that together will makes any Cahill the most powerful person in history. Full of backstabbing, violence, and death. Don’t read the other series past the first one, they recycle the same plot and just kill all the good characters off. Written by a team of great writers including Rick Riordan, Gordan Korman and Jude Watson.
-Timmy Failure: A detective with a giant pet polar bear. He’s a fucking dumbass, but it makes it funny. Thinks the whole world is out to get him. Satirical sometimes, hilarious, and amazing. By Stephan Pastis
- Artemis Fowl: A boy genius and criminal mastermind kidnaps a fairy to get her gold. Is being made into a movie, read the book before you watch it. By Eoin Colfer
-The Mysterious Benedict Society: Hard to describe. An ad appears in the newspaper advertising adventure, all you have to do is pass the tests. Hundreds of kids try, but only 4 get through: Sticky, Kate, Reynie, and Constance. They get a secret mission: infiltrate a school called the Learning Institute for the Very Enlightened, where the only rule is that there are no rules. Funny with real characters, sweet and captivating. By Trenton Lee Stewart.

1, 4 and 5 for the self-insert development game? you can answer for any of your self-inserts!
Ooh, thank you @nanonami-loves for the ask. I was really hoping someone was going to ask me about 1 and 5 😅
Anyway
1. Does your insert have a name that’s different from yours? Does the name reflect their character in any way, or is it just because it sounds nice? How did you come up with it?
So yes, all my my self inserts have a different name from mine because I hate my name and I’m definitely legally changing it when I have the chance. So I generally go between the same three names for my s/i. They either have one of the following two E names: Elizabeth and Evelyn. But I also use Beatrice occasionally. I pick these names cause they sound nice and they’re names I wish I had so why not.
But below is a list of a few my self insert names and why I chose them. I tried not to do ones with repeated names tho. I know technically it’s probably not really the question but I’m in a talk about my f/os and self inserts mood today so.
Elizabeth Everly - I chose this name because I always wanted to have that name when I was young and I kinda still do. My very fist self insert so I thought why not give her that name. As for the surname, I just thought it sounded cool.
Evelyn Burke - Again a name that I would like for myself and that I think sounds nice and I love the meaning. It means ‘wished for child’ which I think is lovely
Nancy Elaine Fowler-Collins known as Eli - I really just liked Elaine but I wanted it to be more period appropriate and so I slapped Nancy on the front cause it was the fist okayish old name that jumped into my head and it just kind of stuck. There is meaning in the surname but that has to do with her backstory.
Elinn Algol - Honestly it sounded cool amd I like E names. Also shortens to Eli which means I don’t have to remember quite as many names amd their nicknames
4. Does your insert have a backstory? Tell us about it! How does their backstory, if any, define who they are? How does it reflect their relationships now? Their hopes and dreams?
Yes, most of my self inserts have backstories, even the unnamed ones. It’s usually the first thing I do when creating my s/i. Most of my s/i backstories draw from my own life because I have a lot of childhood trauma and that helps me to heal. Occasionally I have an s/i that has a very happy backstory which I pretty weird for me, but also nice in someway cause I never had that.
Basically I’m not sharing backstories because they are close to my real life and I don’t really want people knowing all about my past just yet.
5. Does your insert have any magical talents or otherwise special abilities? Are they passive, like the ability to befriend animals, or dangerous power that the villains want? Or if theyre evil - any powers the heroes want to stop?
Yes okay I’m going to do this one by one so here we go. Some of them may seem a little Mary-Sueish but who cares but I don’t care because it’s my self insert and I can do what I want with them 😝
Evelyn Burke - She is my self insert for Miss Peregrine so of course she has a peculiarity. I’m still figuring it out properly but so far she can: fly using her wings, heal fast and her wings big so anything that comes along with that, like using them as a shield or creating gusts of wind.
Elinn Algol - well she’s force sensitive so I guess that’s kinda appealing to the dark side, and dangerous for the light if she were to turn dark.
My Witcher F/O (unnamed) is cursed and so she I suppose that counts
Elizabeth Everly - She’s a Witch so I guess the standard Harry Potter universe magical skills. She can do wandless magic?
Victoria Nymphwood - just the standard magical abilities of the universe that she’s in
My minds gone blank and these are the s/i skills I’ve thought about the most so I think that’s all I’m going to do.

wow the chronicles of narnia the lion the witch and the wardrobe is written about as "well" as most children's literature is because it literally is children's literature. I have literally read a crossover between Harry Potter, Invader Zim, and Tales Of Symphonia by a thirteen year old and it was fucking incredible. I have literally read a crossover between Jak & Daxter, Spyro, Sly Cooper, Crash Bandicoot, and Ratchet & Clank by a thirteen year old and it was also fucking incredible. I have literally read a three part 600K words modern day high school UK AU of Avatar The Last Airbender where Zuko and Katara were obsessed with Stephen King's The Dark Tower series and bands like Paramore and Papa Roach and it was probably the best thing I've literally ever read in my entire life. And the author was only fourteen.
dear fledgling writers who feel sad that their works "aren't as good" as "real" authors like cs lewis and jrr tolkien and ursula k le guin and jk rowling and chris paolini and rick riordan and james patterson and ray bradbury and john green and kurt vonnegut and stephen king and suzanne collins and douglas adams and lemony snicket and se hinton and veronica roth and fuck it I'll even add stephenie meyer to the list:
I can guaranfuckingtee you that if you actually read some of their works you'll see that the only differences between you and them is that they finished writing their books.
the lion the witch and the wardrobe has way too fast of a pace and too much expositional infodumping and too much "x said y then x said y then x said y". tolkien had way too much worldbuilding and lore and linguistics getting in the way of the stories. harry potter is not that great from a mechanical standpoint even if I'm completely disregarding jk's mass quantity of social fuckups. eragon is just okay (although eldest and brisingr got exponentially better but if you think about it that's because he kept on writing). the lightning thief is just okay (and again the series got exponentially better as rick kept writing). patterson is just not that good of a writer (like dean koontz and nora roberts). most of bradbury's writings sucked because they were just propaganda pieces for his own personal beliefs but he literally wrote an entire book every single day for years and when you have that much practice it's literally impossible to actually write anything bad, just mediocre at best. stephen king had a dozen amazing books but for each amazing one there were three or four "meh" ones. the hunger games was a bit clunky & rough at the beginning of the trilogy. douglas adams focused more on humor than on substance and luckily he's actually hilarious. a series of unfortunate events prided itself on coasting on plot contrivances and people being dumbasses to an unrealistically absurd degree and never explaining a single goddamn thing to the audience and never actually having an ending [and even when he did write an actual ending where everyone died it still made no fucking sense because why in the unholy fuck did beatrice become romantic with her uncle lemony? unless it really was actually the fucking baudelaire's mom he was pining for even though that timeline makes no fucking sense because when they were in the vfd they literally weren't even living in the same state AUGH] and so full of plot holes but that was ~part of the charm~. the outsiders was just a straight (haha pun) fucking mess. divergent is famously known for being way overrated and lacking in actual substance. twilight was too slow and dry and fucking MORMON to be at all enjoyable until new moon and even then it was a pile of abusive and ableist and self righteous garbage with a few good subplots, and so on.
now, each of those authors are talented and have written good books, and I won't speak ill of their talents, and am in fact a huge fan of at least half of them, and I at least respect the rest because they work their asses off to make content for their hungry fans. but it just goes to show that books don't have to be perfect. they don't have to be polished and meticulously well crafted and comb a thesaurus and follow every single grammatical construct to the letter and juggle tropes perfectly and stand for important messages and otherwise be anything other than stories to share with people.
and of course there's lots of shitty fanfiction. I've read a lot of shitty fanfiction. I mean shit I've WRITTEN a lot of shitty fanfiction. and I mean irredeemably unsalvageable to the point that I literally don't even wanna know that they exist. I've read things that were so godawful I literally gave up halfway through, purged from my memory, found again, and was punched in the face from the suppressed memories of just how painful it was to read. and I can say the same exact thing about some original fiction I won't mention by name because that would be mean. what I mean by the first paragraph is that those are the epitome of cringe culture in young teens writing, and yet in spite of that were all still masterpieces in their own right.
being a good writer isn't about whether it's original or fanfic. it isn't about whether you're as good as the multimillionaires. it's about saying fuck it and writing regardless of whether other people will like it because those stories belong to you. and you'll never know if the world will love it or if you'll be the next charles dickens or jane austen unless you tell that voice in your head "fuck you, I AM good enough!", put the hypothetical finger to the metaphorical typewriter keys, and WRITE YOUR BOOK.
now of course, your first book will be a mess. but that's called drafting. analyze what's wrong, fix what you can, change what you can't, add more or take some away to fix the pacing, GET A SECOND PERSON TO BE AN EDITOR, but most importantly of all, NEVER GIVE UP. giving up is a 100% chance of never being an author, but trying? it's at least 1%. so if you write a hundred books then statistically at least one of them will be awesome.
just don't compare yourself to other writers. instead, draw inspiration from them.
you miss all the shots you don't take. so don't let the fear of missing keep you from aiming at the target.
and remember:
every master author started off as a beginner.
just like you.
and look, as long as you're better than my immortal and phanslash's hat fic and the my little pony cupcakes creepypasta, then you're fucking golden.
every meh story you write is one step closer to your anna karenina, your war & peace, your moby dick, your pride & prejudice, your jane eyre, your great gatsby, your to kill a mocking bird, your beowulf, your tale of gilgamesh and enkidu, your odyssey, your don motherfucking quixote.
you might not write the greatest book in the world but if that's your goal, your passion is in the wrong place. but if you wanna write that novel so you can say "hey world, I wrote a fucking book, and I'm proud of it. what did you do?" then don't let insecurity drag you under. don't worry about inferiority. just write.
