The original Michelin Man from 1894. The Michelin Man is white because rubber tires are naturally white. It was not until 1912, that carbon chemicals were mixed into the white tires, which turned them black. The change was structural, not aesthetic. By adding carbon, tires became more durable.
Michelin also began reviewing restaurants so that more people would travel further distances in their cars to eat at these restaurants. This in turn would wear down their tires faster, and force them to buy more.
The star system that Michelin uses goes up to three and is broken down by whether or not it's worth driving to the restaurant.
One star: "A very good restaurant in its category"
Two star: "Excellent cooking, worth a detour"
Three star: "Exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey...
The Michelin stars for fancy restaurants are handed out by Michelin reviewers. In order that the restaurant does not know that they have a Michelin reviewer dining with them that night the traditional French way of covering this up is for the Michelin reviewers to become anonymous.
Three Michelin reviewers (above) unmasked. Note the cigars in the mouths of the heads. These were removable while dining, but the cigars allowed the reviewers to blend in in fine dining establishments all over France, in the days when people smoked in restaurants.
Six top reviewers setting out to dine anonymously.
Differences of opinion between Michelin reviewers were always settled the old fashioned way.
As a Michelin Star restaurant, Dry Creek Kitchen truly has a unique, high end ambiance, but the lovely staff gives off a very kind-hearted feeling, which brings the comfort of a family run business. R

Obviously I want Stede and Ed to get married and have a gigantic wedding where the whole crew is invited and both of them cry while reading their vows but ALSO I kinda want Ed to keep calling him and Stede boyfriends at least sometimes forever. "Yeah, I love my boyfriend, we've been married for 10 years, look at this beautiful wedding ring he stole for me 😍"
Carme Ruscalleda is the female cook in the world who has been awarded the most Michelin stars: a total of 7.
Born in 1952 in Sant Pol de Mar (a small coastal town in Barcelona Metropolitan Ambit, Catalonia), she came from a family of farmers and started working in her family's shop, which was a butcher's. There, she started preparing ready food for take away, and developed her passion for cooking.
In 1988, she and her husband opened their restaurant Sant Pau in their hometown Sant Pol de Mar. Their mix of traditional Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine with avantguarde and creative cooking brought them great success and recognition. In 2004, she opened a Sant Pau restaurant in Tokyo (Japan). She has also written many recipe books for both professionals and non-professionals.
Nowadays, she is considered one of the most innovative cooks in the world and is the woman who has been awarded the most Michelin stars. Last week, the University of Barcelona made her Doctor honoris causa in recognition of her work.
Dating advice for straight people on social media is literally deranged at this point. Its all 'how to get into most soullessly transactional relationship and do a cold calculation to play the dynamic into your advantage'. Does anyone even fall in love anymore?
my coworker and i wandered around seoul today and we just?? straight up stumbled across a michelin star restaurant that allowed walk-ins and ate a great fucking meal?? the menu literally only had 4 items on it?? i am obsessed??
i keep thinking about this scene and sydney talking about how all she wants is to cook for people and make them happy and season 2 when sydney says she wants a michelin star and carmy goes ??
like is it 1) her actual dream to have a star and she just kind of didn't think it was possible bc she was consumed with her catering failure and working with carmy made her think it could actually happen
or is it 2) the highest level of success in the food industry but not acTUally what she wants (and what she wants is actually much more in the vein of michael jordan's steakhouse which is not a michelin star place) ??
Went to a one-star Michelin sushi place the other night for an Omakase experience, $800 for the two of us. We are both experienced chefs, so we rarely get to eat food as nice as we serve but.....half the dishes objectively SUCKED, like....really really bad. We laughed about it, but I'm so sad that amount of money was spent 🥲😭 LA fuckin blows. We both agreed even if it was half the price we would never go back. The sashimi, soy sauce, and Wasabi were notably good, but it didn't make up for the rest or price tag.
(Next day, we both had tummy problems, but that could have been just the outrageous amount of fish and fermented items.)
