so I've seen people say that since the LIB look like high schoolers when they're summoned at the Hatchetfield High Black Altar, their forms would changed based on where they're summoned, and I rock with that headcanon. business suits for the CCRP building, theatre costumes for the Starlight, fancy 1820s dress for the Waylon place
but what the fuck would they look like at the Lakeside Mall? mall goths? 80s mall rats?? who hangs out at malls??? would they just be teenagers again???? these are the things that keep me up at night

New hatchetfield theory I just thought of!!!
Ok so, I've seen some people pointing out that the phrase, according to NPMD, "nothing really dies in the Old Waylon Place" may also imply that that applies to ALL of the black altars. Aka, that's why Richie and Ruth open the musical. Those are actually their ghosts, now stuck in the school since it's a black altar.
And that got me thinking...
Is that why "Ethan" can talk to Hannah in Black Friday?
Like...Lakeside is a Black Altar, we know this. And if the same rules from the Old Waylon Place apply with all of the black altars, then that means that none of the people that died in the mall in Black Friday really died. Their spirits stayed there. And maybe even were able to come back to interact with the living, just like Max.
I've always assumed that the Ethan that talks to Hannah in Black Friday is just a vision sent by Wiggly to try to convince Hannah to give up the doll. But what if it was actually Ethan??? Maybe his soul got corrupted because of the Black and White's influence and that's why he acts the way he does.
Idk, just something I thought of while I was rewatching NPMD.

Okay so I took some notes during the Hatchetfield Halloween party stream
This doesn't include spoilers for Working Boys (which was actually fucking excellent) and also doesn't include the proposed NMT3 episode descriptions just because I didn't screenshot and I've seen a billion posts of them going around.
Steph's mum's dead, Matt Lang says it's likely something to do with when Solomon Lauter says about the black book 'I'm never touching that book again'.
Nora is the owner of beanies
Melissa is a serial killer in every reality
The black alters constructed by the church of the starry children: Lakeside mall, Waylon place, the highschool, the starlight theatre, CCRP (formerly the site of the Hatchetfield Gazette)
Greenpeace girl's real name is Harmony Jones
Duke's dad was the sheriff of Hatchetfield and was murdered in October 2005 by Wilber Cross
Linda auditioned for Working Boys but was the only person not to make the cut.
Working boys was originally going to be much longer and more complicated and the black book prop was originally commissioned for it. In the end most of that content ended up getting lifted and pulled into nightmare time episodes. The song 'The Summoning' was originally written for Working Boys as the goal was to trick the cast into performing the ritual. This also originally wasn't supposed to happen in Nerdy Prudes.
They're keen to put the brakes on Hatchetfield at some point soon and the next musical definitely won't be Hatchetfield.
NMT2 ends on a cliffhanger because they originally intended to do NMT3 very shortly after to wrap up some of the loose ends.
Doing NMT3 will depend on demand. Writing a season of NMT takes about 4 times the amount of time as writing a musical and If they did NMT3 they'd want to make it even less zoom cally than NMT2 (i.e. have characters talking to each other) which also takes a lot of time and money. They are very keen to do it on a personal level as the arc from NMT2 currently feels unfinished but doing it will depend on demand.
They're keen to do more film style things akin to Working Boys.
Proposed NMT3 episode 'Bottle Imp' was originally planned to be part of NMT S1 E2.
NMT3 would revolve around Halloween.
They originally thought the musical trilogy would start with nerdy prudes must die and have the sequel be 'horny campers must die' (which became absintence camp), the third in the trilogy would have followed a similar plot to proposed NMT3 episode 'Devils night'.
The soldier referenced in the description for proposed NMT3 episode 'Orbweaver' is General MacNamara.
If they ever did another Hatchetfield musical at some point in the future it would be about Miss Holloway and her origins story.
They want to do a Hatchetfield movie at some point, and Working Boys was a test for how well Hatchetfield transfers over to that medium. This would have to be isolated in location and character list to be feasible. Their current thoughts for this would be 'Cast Party Massacre' which would involve a lot of the new characters we met in Working Boys.

Silly little assorted Hatchetfield Headcannons that don't warrant thir own individual post:
Paul is a pretty good cook, but not an excellent cook. Like, a 7/10. Above average. Sometimes his food comes out a little bland, but his chicken is never dry, and his pancakes are always fluffy.
Richie draws fan art. Ruth writes fanfiction.
Mr. Spankoffski's shoe store is in Lakeside Mall near Toy Zone, and he is on friendly terms with Frank Pricely. Sometimes when Pete is around he goes in there to look for action figures or Lego sets when he has spare cash. (Also Pete was helping his Dad in the mall during Black Friday, and Ted came when he heard what was going on to pick them up)
Boy Jerry didn't actually think Donna was guilty of murder in "Hatchet Town," he was just trying to get a promotion.
Richie makes cosplay tiktoks.
Despite being very good at swimming, for years Daniel's family thought he couldn't swim at all, because they never could see him doing it, and thought he was lying when he said he swam across the pool and back in a split second.
Ruth loves Be More Chill
Lex found out Santa wasn't real when she was 9 because Pam forgot/didn't bother to get her or Hannah gifts from Santa that year. When Lex asked, Pam confirmed it and said she's not doing it anymore. Lex has been making or buying Hannah a gift from Santa every year since, even after Hannah stops believing in Santa (it's a tradition at this point)
MacNamara and his husband have 3 kids. Their oldest son (Joey's army character, in tgwdlm, since apparently that was what he himself intended with his character portrayal), and 2 identical twin daughters about the same age as Hannah Foster.
Before she had to switch schools, Alice was the stage manager for the Hatchetfield High drama department, and Ruth was her underclassmen protégé (Ruth absolutely used to have a crush on her).

Ok so there’s 5 Black Altar’s in Hatchetfield…
There’s also 5 Lords In Black…
Could the Lords In Black each have a stronger link to one of these places above the others?
Three of them are easy to place based on the stories they appear in:
Pokey — The Starlight Theatre
Wiggly — The Lakeside Mall
Tinky — CCRP Technical
That leaves us Nibbly and Blinky as the remaining Lords In Black and Hatchetfield High and The Waylon House as the remaining Black Altars - These two are harder to place since neither one are directly involved in NPMD or interact with those locations
It’d be tempting to say the Watcher World theme park was Blinky’s, except we know now that’s not one of the Altars — for my money Hatchetfield High makes the most sense; we all know high school is a cesspit of misery and pain, sadistic Blinky would love to watch all of that
That leaves Nibbly as The Waylon house… which, to be honest I can’t think of a concrete connection beyond process of elimination, but I also can’t really think of a connection between Nibbly and Hatchetfield High other than like. The school cafeteria. Lot of consumption going on there I guess? Idk Blinky for the high school just makes more sense to me
So:
Blinky - Hatchetfield High
Nibbly — The Waylon House
Although, I just thought of the other way: the nerds & Steph set up the house so record their prank on Max: to view his suffering… which now I think of it does sound very very much Blinky’s wheelhouse. In which case, Nibbly for the high school… ehhhhh, I still got nothing except the school cafeteria.
Either way, this is fun to think about!

It’s established in Nerdy Prudes Must Die that the Lords in Black can be summoned if it’s near one of their five altars - Wiggly could’ve just had someone summon him in the Lakeside Mall, which is an altar, to wreak havoc on Hatchetfield in Black Friday. With this in mind, I’m like 90% sure that the events of Black Friday were just for the drama and for the lols

More Hatchetverse Theory: Sycamore High and the Timberwolves are connected to the Hatchetmen and the Tree-People
Starkid's Hatchetverse has retriggered my hyperfixation, and by golly if you think I'm not gonna share every unhinged theory...you're wrong. I’ll tag them “#hatchetverse theory” to make it easier. So let's dive in.
One thing I haven't seen anyone talking about is the fact that, based on what we know about canon, Sycamore High School likely shouldn't exist.
Hatchetfield is a "tiny town". There doesn't seem to be a reason for them to have two high schools, especially when Sycamore seems to not even have enough staff and students for most extra curriculars and programs (in TGWDLM, Paul mentions they don't have a theater program).
So why does Sycamore High School exist? Well, one thing I noticed was that SYCAMORE High as well as its mascot, the TIMBERwolves, have tree related pun names. And what a coincidence, trees happened to be big in the hatchetfield universe, particularly when it comes to the hatchetmen and their hatred of the LIB and magic/“the gift” in general. They did plant a forest of magic tree people after all. And, since they hate the LIB so much, they likely wouldn't want their children attending high school at one of the black altar locations, which just so happens to be Hatchetfield High. That gives them a motivation to build an alternative school.
Sounds like a pretty solid theory to me, but then there's also the fact that the residents also seem to have an odd attitude towards Sycamore High. It's not hated by Hatchetfield High with the same level of hatred they give the Clivesdale Chemists, but they still don't like Sycamore, and the students hate the idea of transferring there. Which seems odd. You'd think it would be the other way around since Hatchetfield High is the school with the black altar. Unless being around a black altar makes the students hate Sycamore, and I could probably do a whole different rant on how the LIB's influence is messing with the perceptions and behavior of the people of Hatchetfield, particularly at the altar locations or when someone uses or has used the black book, but maybe I'll save that for later.
However, if you really wanted to take this theory to the extreme, it could be part of the reason why Paul "doesn't like musicals." Musicals and music are the primary way Pokey expands his influence in Hatchetfield, at least in TGWDLM. That might be one of the reasons Sycamore doesn't have a choir or theater program: not just due to lack of students, but strategically to keep Pokey's influence out. Paul went to Sycamore High, which isn't a black altar (and indeed, might even be designed to counteract or resist the LIB), therefore he's more put off by music and musical performances in Hatchetfield, though he doesn't really know why.
I also suspect this isn't the only instance where the name of locations around town have significance. This has already been seen several times, particularly with the black altar locations.
For example:
The Starlight Theater: has a star theme similar to "the Church of the Starry Children"
CCRP (COVEN Communication Research and Power): Literally has the word "Coven" in it.
Lakeside Mall: Used to be the old mill (which would be located near water, also "mall" and "mill" are one letter off).
And trust me, I have my theories about Clivesdale as well, but again, maybe that one is better for another time.
I hope you enjoy Starkid fandom!

[Cal walks into Lakeside Mall. Their face is molded into a nice, gentle smile as they bob their head to the beat of the music playing on the speakers. Every motion and move was crafted to make them as agreeable and friendly as possible. It had a been a while since they put on their Mask, but there were times when it was necessary. They make their way up to Toyzone, keeping an eye out for "Ethan".]
-@calaverage
[Ethan can be seen just clocking out of work. He spots Cal and approaches them.]
That was perfect timing, eh?

the implications.
nerdy prudes must die was written first. it was the first hatchetfield story written. the guy who didnt like musicals and black friday and any nightmare time all take place after the events of nerdy prudes.
PIEP isnt in nerdy prudes because it hasnt been formed yet. because the lords in black havent been summoned yet.
but grace, steph, and peter summon them and bring them to hatchetfield. hatchetfield, where theyve already been worshipped before. "you summon us once," and now nobody who dies in the waylen place actually dies; "you summon us twice," and now grace sacrificed her soul to them.
nerdy prudes confirms that hatchetfield is literally the gates of hell, or rather, the gate to the black and white. so the events of nerdy prudes actually precede the events of the other hatchetfield stories, and the moment the kids summon the lords in black is the moment the timeline fractures. this is where it all begins.
the implications of all the hatchetfield stories so far taking place in the locations of the places of worship. the lakeside mall, the starlight theatre, the high school gym...
the implications.

The Black Alters
Disclaimer: I have not had the chance to see Workin' Boys yet, so this post will not account for that, even though it takes place at a black alter (the Starlight theater).
From Nerdy Prudes Must Die, we learn that there are five black alters--places the Waylons built.
The Waylon House
The Starlight Theater
Hatchetfield High School
Lakeside Mall, formerly the old mill
The Gazette, currently CCRP Technical
Each black alter is featured in at least one Hatchetfield production, and many Hatchetfield productions take place at or feature a black alter.
The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals features the Starlight theater, Hatchetfield high school, and CCRP Technical.
Black Friday takes place at Lakeside Mall.
Forever and Always features CCRP Technical, formerly the Gazette.
Time Bastard features CCRP Technical, formerly the Gazette (as shown in that episode).
Honey Queen takes place at the Starlight theater.
Daddy features Lakeside Mall.
Yellow Jacket features Lakeside Mall.
Nerdy Prudes Must Die takes place at the Waylon house, the Starlight theater, and Hatchetfield high school.
8/15 Hatchetfield productions either take place at or feature a black alter. If we're counting how many mention one of those five places as well, that number would be a lot higher.
Just a fun detail I noticed.

Hey, Wiley? Remember those drinks we talked about the other day? How about we get them now? Actually I'm already at a bar... I'm not sure what it's called... but it's that one bar near Lakeside Mall. -@agent-carvour
Sure, why not. I think i know what you're talking about. I'll be there in like in a couple of seconds if I don't go to the wrong place. Is a bit quick to wanna see me again but is fair. I'm a delight to be around.
