It shocked me to find out that people will completely skip season 1 in their ATLA rewatches. The season gets a little too much flak imo. Is it a little more childish than S2 and S3? Maybe! But so many important moments and setups are established in that season, and in terms of story and pacing, it’s one of the strongest seasons right next to S2 imo!

This scene is just so beautiful and sad. Iroh knows that Zuko needs space right now to figure things out, but he's ready to help him if he needs him. Iroh cares about Zuko deeply, but knows that it's his life, and at a certain point, he needs to step back and let him live it.
But the thing that's really sad about it is that deep down, this is probably exactly what Toph wants from her own parents. She wants the space to be her own person and make her own choices, but she also wants to know they can support her for who she really is. And they wouldn't. She had to choose between her independence and her parents. Toph deserves better, dammit!

The scene in "The Boiling Rock pt 1" where Sokka tells Suki and Zuko to escape without him and they both refuse to leave him behind has always been funnier to me than it should be, because I always imagined Zuko must have been thinking something like this:
"No, Sokka, I won't abandon you here. I'm loyal to you and the avatar, and even just over the past couple days we've spent together, I've come to think of you as a trusted friend. Also, your sister threatened to murder me last week, so if I show my face at the Western Air Temple without you, she's going to turn me into an ex-ex-prince of the fire nation."
