More Hatchetverse Theory: Sycamore High and the Timberwolves are connected to the Hatchetmen and the Tree-People
Starkid's Hatchetverse has retriggered my hyperfixation, and by golly if you think I'm not gonna share every unhinged theory...you're wrong. I’ll tag them “#hatchetverse theory” to make it easier. So let's dive in.
One thing I haven't seen anyone talking about is the fact that, based on what we know about canon, Sycamore High School likely shouldn't exist.
Hatchetfield is a "tiny town". There doesn't seem to be a reason for them to have two high schools, especially when Sycamore seems to not even have enough staff and students for most extra curriculars and programs (in TGWDLM, Paul mentions they don't have a theater program).
So why does Sycamore High School exist? Well, one thing I noticed was that SYCAMORE High as well as its mascot, the TIMBERwolves, have tree related pun names. And what a coincidence, trees happened to be big in the hatchetfield universe, particularly when it comes to the hatchetmen and their hatred of the LIB and magic/“the gift” in general. They did plant a forest of magic tree people after all. And, since they hate the LIB so much, they likely wouldn't want their children attending high school at one of the black altar locations, which just so happens to be Hatchetfield High. That gives them a motivation to build an alternative school.
Sounds like a pretty solid theory to me, but then there's also the fact that the residents also seem to have an odd attitude towards Sycamore High. It's not hated by Hatchetfield High with the same level of hatred they give the Clivesdale Chemists, but they still don't like Sycamore, and the students hate the idea of transferring there. Which seems odd. You'd think it would be the other way around since Hatchetfield High is the school with the black altar. Unless being around a black altar makes the students hate Sycamore, and I could probably do a whole different rant on how the LIB's influence is messing with the perceptions and behavior of the people of Hatchetfield, particularly at the altar locations or when someone uses or has used the black book, but maybe I'll save that for later.
However, if you really wanted to take this theory to the extreme, it could be part of the reason why Paul "doesn't like musicals." Musicals and music are the primary way Pokey expands his influence in Hatchetfield, at least in TGWDLM. That might be one of the reasons Sycamore doesn't have a choir or theater program: not just due to lack of students, but strategically to keep Pokey's influence out. Paul went to Sycamore High, which isn't a black altar (and indeed, might even be designed to counteract or resist the LIB), therefore he's more put off by music and musical performances in Hatchetfield, though he doesn't really know why.
I also suspect this isn't the only instance where the name of locations around town have significance. This has already been seen several times, particularly with the black altar locations.
For example:
The Starlight Theater: has a star theme similar to "the Church of the Starry Children"
CCRP (COVEN Communication Research and Power): Literally has the word "Coven" in it.
Lakeside Mall: Used to be the old mill (which would be located near water, also "mall" and "mill" are one letter off).
And trust me, I have my theories about Clivesdale as well, but again, maybe that one is better for another time.
I hope you enjoy Starkid fandom!

thinking about the line "i've been thrown to the wolves of the community" in 'high school is killing me'. for one, it acts as a preceeding metaphor to 'literal monster'; the idea of max being a predator is carried throughout the whole musical, and introduced from the very first number. secondly, it reminded me of the sycamore timberwolves in tgwdlm. y'know, the "we hated you guys!"/"we hated ourselves" school paul went to? probably over-analysing again but this could potentially tie into the fact that literally no-one at hatchetfield high is happy, not even max- everyone hates themselves there too, and hates max. they want to have a nice, bullying-free environment like the one there after max dies, they don't want him there. he's like a timberwolf himself

Things we know about Sycamores (the other school on Hatchetfield):
• Paul attended there
• a kid named Travis Coulson transferred there from HH to get away from Max’s bullying
• Hatchetfield High kids hated them
• They hated themselves
• Their sports team is the Timberwolves (and presumably mascot is also a Timberwolf) 🐺
• Doesn’t have it’s own theatre department
• We can assume it’s a reasonable distance from HH because Paul says they “bussed us over” to watch the production of Brigadoon that Emma was in
And – this one is just my own personal headcanon – but I’ve always imagined it was an all-boys school. Nothing in canon overtly points to this, (other than the only characters we know who went there are both guys) but as far as I can tell nothing discounts it either
It’s interesting to me that there’s very few canon things that we actually know about Sycamores from canon, despite it being where one of the Main-main characters went

I've not seen the new Pokemon Kalos Legends game footage since I'm at work right now, but I'm assuming this will also take place in another time period.
In which case, I may not see Hot Professor Sycamore, but can I... Can I request a Hot Ancestor of his that coincidentally looks like him? 😳

When I watched High Guardian Spice for the first time, my favorite character was Professor Caraway, and that was solely because he reminded me of Professor Sycamore. I was never really too into Pokemon, but I had like, one of those small phases during Gen 6, so I guess I had a lil bit of residual nostalgia brewing in my brain.

So I was doing more drawings today
First I was just drawing what I imagine Des and Dimitri’s reunion to be like. Set in some sort of alternate scenario Azran Legacy, the group’s walking around, I assume in London, and Sycamore sees someone nearby, and recognizes him, and just points and yells “DIMITRI?!”. Dimitri then looks that way, squints for a minute, and then points and goes “HERSHEL?!” right back at him. No one knowing he’s talking about Sycamore, Layton just goes, “yes?” which makes Dimitri go “other Hershel??” to everyone’s confusion. The conversation goes on, but I just wanted to explain the context for the drawing
Edit: Oh yeah, should probably mention for people who didn’t see my other post, I have a headcanon that Dimitri and Desmond were childhood friends, whom unfortunately never saw each other after Hershel’s parents were abducted. Dimitri only knew that his friend and his family suddenly disappeared and never knew the reason why
Probably should have drawn Layton to finish the image, but I didn’t wanna
Then I decided to draw that small Aurora (I named her human incarnation Aurea, though I might change it) I drew a bit of again, and now I want to try giving her a full design and stuff, along with some drawings of her, but I didn’t want to just make that the rest of the page and overshadow the other stuff, so I cut the rest of the picture off and just left the page as is, and I’m just gonna draw Aurea on her own page later
So yeah

one thing that pisses me off to no end is the amount of mediocrity that happens in high fashion collaborations. because how the fuck did the balmain pokemon collab end up in the way that it did?
ok so if youre only thinking about pokemon in eyes of nostalgia then i guess you’ll only find simplistic elements; nothing that can really bridge it to the work of olivier rousteing and the older stuff by pierre balmain.
pic of red <3 + balmain aw13
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but if you do even the TINIEST bit of research there’s an easy overlap of design elements you could have used to make the collaboration. take, for example, the sygna suits worn by trainers that easily intersect with the intricate designs of balmain.
leon + lysandre sygna suits
Tumblr media Tumblr media
balmain men’s aw17
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and like. i get that not everyone is wearing haute couture. but even if you take it into the commercial street direction you literally still have so much to reference off of, just on the trainers alone? and it’s not even including the ways that you can take highly popular pokemon (eevee, pikachu, mimikyu, etc.) and turn them into very simple cheap to produce garments like how gelato pique did for acnh.
streetwear ref: raihan❤️ + guzma 💗 💗
Tumblr media Tumblr media
like absolutely none of this looks good. the marketing looks shit and the designs are made by people stuck in 2016 it’s so disgusting. i want to know the target consumer because which philip plein wearing instagram influencer is going to balmain to buy toddler ass pokemon merch for 2.3k????
Tumblr media
like for this one i can maybe understand it if it came out in the pokemon store a season after prada came out w the half patterned camp collar shirts and but in 2023???
Tumblr media
my theory is that they tried to mirror the success of fragment design’s success with the pokemon collab, but you can kinda pass it off cuz fragment design is so rooted in streetwear. the balenciaga fortnite stuff was funny and whatever cuz logomania and sillyness is linked to demna balenciaga. but this collab (+ burberry minecraft, roblox gucci, etc.) are just clear desires to print money and make clothes destined to end up in landfills approximately 5 business days after purchase
