Idling//Prelude

Working on a lil something 👀

Inside the mind of Marc Spector exists a rainy street, and a cab idles at the curb.

Jake spends most of his existence there, and it isn’t as bad as it might sound. It’s a lot of waiting, but it’s a lot of peace, too. He spends a lot of his time thinking. Not about anything that goes on there in the tall, dark building where Marc spent his childhood, the one outside of which Jake’s cab sits. No. He thinks of other things and sometimes nothing at all while he watches the raindrops trip their way down the glass of the windshield.

Waiting. Sooner or later, he always ends up having to leave the warm safety of the cab to go back into the building. Back to The Body. He doesn’t mind—he’s out here idling by the curb for a reason, isn’t he? So that at the first sign of trouble, he can pull up his collar against the wind, tug down his cap, and protect The Body. Protect The System.

Except that after all the dust of recent events has settled (thanks to a couple of bullets in the forehead of a crocodile-worshiping sycophant), Jake starts finding himself being called inside the building far more often than he’d like, and for far different reasons.

Namely, for you.

Two small scenarios to get off my brain:

1) Juno does not create a cult in her own name, but sort of becomes a cult leader anyway by trying to milk Desmond’s death. She does the whole shebang:

releases records from the Temple, up to the moment Desmond burns up

implicates Abstergo for taking away Desmond’s body (twofold reasoning: insuring Abstergo is too busy fending off the public and making sure the public is not paying attention to what she is doing)

takes claim for insuring Desmond is born in the first place (worded vaguely enough that she has plausible deniability, something akin to “We made sure he is born” and “He is closest to what is like us”)

taking above into account, maybe she starts to dissociate Desmond from the rest of humanity? For her own purposes, but still

Overall, it’s a bit like what Desmond would have ended up had he not used the temple… But with Desmond dead and Juno taking advantage of his legacy

2) Desmond-centric, dealing with how the entire thing with Animus was extremely taxing on Desmond’s body and that really, no one had absolutely any idea what they were doing with it

Desmond either faints or goes into extremely lethargic state at some point because being in Animus =/= resting. By all means, he has not been getting enough sleep for way too long despite his brain going 100mph

His brain burning though the body resources too fast, since it had to work overtime to process the memories (the kind it was NOT meant to process). Basically, fast food was not going to cut it. Add to it the condensed amount of stress he has to go through in a short amount of time… And you have an issue

Coma actually helped a little, since Desmond wasn’t using his brain to the same amount he was when he was reliving memories

But his state is still bad enough they have to bring in someone from Assassins to check in on him. This someone proceeds to chew the team and William out and claiming “They should be grateful he even woke up”

In short, off the “Desmond has a lot of Isu genes so his body is weird” and to “He has just enough Isu in him to do weird shit but not for his body to support it longterm”
