shunt the hell up! (x hunt!driver!ofc)
shunt your lovers, kiss your enemies. smau: it was funny how enemies can be your teammate AND your lover at the same time. OR jj hunt, the daughter of the late james hunt, was jenson's biggest rival until a certain baby predicament cost her her entire racing career. (g) ♡

newsflash, smau: ensley soleil doesn’t like playboys. too bad, pierre gasly’s down bad for her (attention and love). (f, g, h)

lowkey, smau: fans thought that pierre moved on from ensley four months after publicly declaring his (love?) for her. funnily enough... (f, g, h)
indigo, chatfic + smau: there's really no reason for pierre gasly to be jealous over some man that ensley wrote 'high school in jakarta' about. not when she wrote one or more songs about the frenchman. (f) ♡
high school in jakarta, fic: meeting ensley’s close friends would also mean that he’d have to meet her high school sweetheart, who he believed he couldn’t compete against until ensley ensured that his two-day attendance wouldn’t be spoiled by some guy who couldn’t let go of some memories she couldn’t even remember. ♡
dancing with the devil, smau: ensley soleil doesn't care about what people are saying about her relationship with pierre especially now that she's married to him. (f)

crowned couple (x miss universe!ofc)
the couple of the universe, smau: lewis is a careless being this season and everyone's wondering why.
melody series (x performer!ofc)
summary: with her sharp eyes focused on her audience, a burlesque performer who went under the name of melody returned to rythme romantique, an entertainment lounge which exclusively caters to the wealthiest people of monaco — or in this case, to the people with a status that are recognized by all. her three exclusive performances were meant to be a closure for her connections in the principality. still, a certain formula one driver saw it as an opportunity to reconnect with his former flame after two years of her absence. felicity vos learned that this was a rich man’s world and that he could do whatever he wanted, but she also realized that the agreement they settled on years ago was corrupted the moment he expressed his love for her.
one, million dollar man: monaco was a world of glitz and glamour that she left two years ago. returning to the principality clearly was a huge mistake as she found herself talking to the man who swore to nothing but his love for her.
two, this is what makes us girls: "decorum isn't something you can buy with money or fame." or what did lewis really want from her and why did he show up on the second night of her performance?
arthur leclerc (al12)
the scheming schumachers, smau: sunny schumacher is mick's cousin and what does a family do? they attract arthur leclerc to get him away from his best friend, who happens to be mick's girlfriend. thankfully, the schumacher cousin is something of a welcome distraction for the monegasque.
charles leclerc (cl16)
the leclerc boys series (x hearth sister!ofc)
debunking drama, smau: prequel to of long lines and names; aimee hearth, the mclaren media manager and one of the famous hearth sisters, was rumoured to be dating lando norris. a certain monegasque's baffled reaction became a trending topic in twitter as he counteracts the rumour with an instagram post of his lover. (f, h)
of long lines and names, fic: five kids with (almost) five names under six years. OR the three pregnancies that charles had witnessed told him how motherhood and memories could come in two sets of twins and a boy that looked so much like him. (f)
the leclerc daycare, fic: before his last set of twins were born, charles had to watch his boys on his own- not exactly by himself when he's got esteban and pierre acting as his right hand men. (f) (1/3 of daddy, debriefed!) ♡
about names, scenario fics
summary: extension to of long lines and names and the leclerc daycare; charles and aimee's boys and their names go hand in hand OR times when the couple had to tell their kids that their names were signs of love and respect for their namesakes.
one, an amazing boy with an amazing name: hervé's anger left his parents confused after he refused to be called by his first name. thankfully, his mamé pascale had an easy access to his heart that eventually led to an answer to his sadness.
two, the wingman of maranello: jules leclerc learned two things as he travelled to italy with his father: he had an uncle named uncle teague and uncle teague had a best friend that was once charles' godfather.
other pieces
"slut", smau: charles' ex trashed his new girlfriend a while ago, but too bad he wasn't really into the thought of making music with anyone but lou villar.
breaking curses not hearts, smau: frankie bardot atkinson was also known for her curse in the film industry. after breaking her long streaked curse and finally won an oscar, was it finally charles' time to break his curse at monza gp?
kevin magnussen (km20)
family ties, smau: lando norris forgot that his brother-in-law is in the grid with him and lola norris magnussen couldn't help but make of her brother for it.
lando norris (ln4)
lover era (x alessandro sister!writer!ofc)
london boy, smau: nicola 'cola' alessandro moved to britain and what's a better way to introduce yourself to england than taking a trip around with a certain mclaren driver? (f, g, h)
i think he knows, smau: grazia nichols published her debut novel based off formula one, and a fan could have sworn that the the book bf - nolan langford - was based off of lando's character as a driver altogether. (f, g, h)
✿ honey, honey! series masterlist - lando norris x ofc (honey-sue lewis) ft. sidemen ★
f1 drivers (general)
✿ 9 to 5 series masterlist - f1 grid x ofc (lester alessandro) ft. fictional wolff kids
too much caring, smau, sv5 + jb22: kpop idol juno was assumed to have cheated on retired driver jenson button with his best mate sebastian vettel. oh how wrong those people were... ★

A Scream to the Gods
Hyunjin x Fem!Reader
Genre: Angst, Non idol, Medieval
Tumblr media
✨Masterlist✨
Warnings: Cheating, Swearing, Death, Description of blood, Major character death (reader), (Sorry if I missed any tags)
Notes: Hyunjin's POV + I enjoyed writing this but I'm anxious to share it. It's pretty angsty but I enjoy writing in this style. I hope that you enjoy the story!
Word Count: 2538
Summary: Despite you doing your best to make your realm proud Hyunjin couldn't be more opposed to the idea of marrying you. So much so that he's done a great deal of things behind your back to ease the pain. What will happen when everything comes to light and it becomes way too much to handle?
Tumblr media
Hyunjin's POV
She was feared, envied even. Every woman she walked past wanted to be her and all of the men wanted a woman of her equal on his arm but no one could ever compare. She was a fair height and her skin was golden like a pool of honey, her mouth was presumably the most craved thing in the kingdom after her body. I’ve heard another man say that she has “The body of a true woman.” One would think that I am happy, ecstatic even for her to be my bride but in reality I’m far from it.
“Hyunjin, we’ll be late if we wait any longer, can't we leave now?” As much as I’d love to remain in my chambers and hide from my mother it is no use, either I go to her or she comes to me.
“Very well, I suppose I’ve waited long enough.” Turning to Lady Y/n I forced a smile and offered her my hand. “Shall we?”
Confidently, she takes my hand and I lead her to my chamber doors. The guards visibly perk up as I exit and close the doors behind me. “Brogan, call for my sister. I'll be needing assistance dealing with my mother” The guard rushes off in the other direction as Lady Y/n and I make our way across the palace to my mother's quarters.
“Would it really be so horrible?” With furrowed brows I look over to Lady Y/n, she halts her movement on the garden bridge and stands in front of me. “Marrying me, is it really that frightening to you?”
A smirk plays upon my lips as I look around to make sure that we are alone, I look her directly in the eyes “Yes, it would be, I’d rather fall into a war with the North than marry the likes of you.” My shoulder bumps into hers as I make my way past her. "Come, let's not waste anymore time."
The remainder of the walk to my mother's quarters felt as if it lasted a thousand lunar cycles. Lady Y/n dragged herself behind me just close enough to look as if we were actually together.
"My Lord." My mother's personal guards greeted me as I approached her chamber doors. Opening the tall doors I enter, neglecting to wait for Lady Y/n.
I halt in my tracks and my heartbeat starts to quicken as I take in the scene before me. My mother, The general and his wife and the high priest of the realm all sat before me in a quiet huddle around my mother's common room table.
"Look who's decided to join us." My mother's cold tone gave way to the reason that such a scene is being displayed before me. Finally, Lady Y/n makes her way Into the room and bows to my mother.
"What the hell is this?" Scoffing my mother sets her tea cup onto the table before her. Grabbing the hand of the general's wife she lifts her to her feet.
"Are you familiar with this woman?" My first thought is that this must be a trap, another one of my mother's creative ploys to get me to marry Lady Y/n.
"What kind of question is that mother? Of course I am familiar with the general's wife." It took everything out of me not to call her by her birth given name, Reyna, my - I mean the general's wife.
"Do you take me as a fool, son?" Exasperated, my mother motions for the general to stand. "Jisung, inform my son of what you've been told."
"Yes, My Queen." Standing to his feet, Han Jisung, the grand general of this realm and a dear friend of mine, looked at me with eyes I did not recognize. With a sigh he followed my mother's orders.  "It has been brought to my attention by one of my men that you've been seeing my wife."
Fuck
"Jisung, don't be ridiculous. Do you believe your men over me?"
"My men have a loyalty to me that you don't seem to have, My Lord."
From the corner of my eye I notice Lady Y/n tense, it is at this point that I think the both of us realize the severity of this situation.
"I foresaw that you would try to deny the truth so I took it upon myself to get the answer out of your mistress." Coming from around the table my mother trails Reyna behind her. "I told her that she can either admit to seeing the King and be sent away to the Central Realm or she can keep your dirty secret and be placed on trial for manipulating and seducing the King."
No no no no no, she's lying, my mother lies all the time to get her way this can't be any different, but when my eyes meet Reyna's it is clear to me that my mother is not bluffing. Tears well up in her honey glazed eyes causing anger to boil in my veins.
"Do not punish Reyna for my mistakes, I will stop seeing her." The pain I felt while speaking these words is a feeling I wish to never experience again. At this point every pair of eyes in the chamber are on me, waiting for me to fix what I've done in some way.
"There you go playing me for a fool again, I don't believe you anyway. You're too passionate to stay away from this woman especially while she's with your child."
"What?"
"I'm sorry." Reyna's whispered words were all I needed to hear to break me down just enough for me to nearly give up but by the grace of the Gods I remembered something, something that may turn this into a victory.
“You can not send your Queen away to the Central Kingdom.” Once again all eyes were on me as I revealed my deepest dearest secret. I’ve held these words inside my chest for far too long. “Unhand your Queen, at once.” The maniacal laugh that ripped through my mother could silence any realm within earshot.
“How can she be your wife when she’s married to me?” Jisung’s face may have been just as painful for me to take in as Reyna’s terrified one. He is a good man and I’ve gone behind his back and slept with his wife.
“Your marriage was never officiated by the priest. Therefore Reyna is technically an unmarried woman, well, she was an unmarried woman.” The hard swallow that followed once Jisung realized Reyna was no longer his wife was clearly an attempt at keeping his temper in check.
“You married this girl!?” My mothers grip on Reyna’s wrist visibly tightened
"She has every right to the throne as I do. With that being said I suggest that you unhand your queen before I smite you. You've already tested my patience." My mother throws Reyna's arm away from her in disgust. Reyna holds her wrist to her chest and begins to sob.
"My queen, if you don't mind I need a moment. " With a bow Jisung makes his way to the chamber doors. Stopping before the guards at the entrance, he seems to be in deep thought.  "Reyna, if you come with me now I will forget this ever happened.  We can move to the Southern realm and live the life that we've always wanted.  If you stay I know you've chosen your corrupt king over me. "
With every word that Jisung spoke I wished that he was struck down by lightning.  He's trying to take my bride away from me? Without another word he moved outside of the chambers and Reyna watched him leave with pain glazed eyes. My gaze stayed on her until her eyes flickered to mine. The Queen mother watched in silence almost as if she were taking part in a mental prayer.
"My Lord, I love you more than the Gods love this land. You've given me one of the most wonderful gifts that life could ever give and I can never fully repay you for all that you've done. " The tear that fell from Reyna's right eye gave way to my darling's response.
"No, you're not leaving. You're with my child."
"And he will know who his father is. My Lord, I am not worthy of a life with you. I am not fit to be Queen."
"No, you can't leave, I won't let you." Reyna makes her way towards me, stopping right before me.
"Saranghaeyo" I couldn't help the tears that sprung to my eyes.
Without another word she hurried out of my mother's chambers avoiding all eye contact.  "Reyna." I called for her hoping she'd return but it was no use. She chose the safest option, she knows that my mother will have her killed if she stays and for that reason alone I will make sure that my mother feels the exact fear that Reyna feels right now. Directing my gaze to the queen mother I warn her.
"Watch your step, you never know which one will have a trap door underneath it." With a smile my mother sits at her common room table and sips her tea.
"I think it's fair to say that we can annul the union you had with your mistress and marry you and Lady Y/n." I glance over to find that Lady Y/n is gone. Not that I care.
"I will not marry that woman, I have no feelings for her. If you're willing to force your son into a loveless marriage you have no business calling yourself a mother. "
"You're right. I'm not a mother,  I'm a queen protecting her kingdom from my son who loves to fall in love with the help.  Now go find Lady Y/n and apologize for your ignominious behavior." Charging towards my mother I slam my hands onto her common room table shaking her tea cup and startling the priest.
"I will make every day of Lady Y/n's life a living hell and I will be sure to remind her that you are to blame for her eternal suffering." Before my mother could rebuttal a guard came rushing into her quarters.
"Pardon me, my queen. There's an emergency in the garden. Lady Y/n has threatened to take her life." Jumping up from her seat my mother begins to panic.
"Is she armed?"
"Yes, my queen"
"Unarm her and bring her to me" Scoffing, I straighten my garments before turning my back to my mother.
"No, allow me to support my bride. Stay put, you've done enough
Tumblr media
"Lady Y/n" she halted all movement at the sound of my voice. Her face was scrunched into one of a perplexed woman as she circled the rose bushes. I had them planted for her earlier this year, she often came here to think or practice archery. I remember the day that I presented the bushes to her, she was so happy, practically glowing. The look of confusion on her face almost makes me miss that happiness… that glow.
"Stay away from me."
"My darling, please come inside. Let me talk to you about this." She turned to me with a look of betrayal stronger than I've ever seen before.
"Talk about what? Your affairs with a married woman? You're hatred for me? I've never acted in an ill manner towards you my lord, yet you treat me as if I'm a pauper begging for your gold. I did not want to come and marry you, I had a love of my own in the Central Kingdom but I left him to be here and serve my born duty. You seem to forget that, you're not my first choice either."
"Darling -"
"Don't call me that" she points her dagger towards me as I take a step towards her."
"Y/n, please. I'll speak to my mother and convince her to have you honorably sent back to the Central kingdom. We've made an alliance with your father, all will be well." Tears fall from her eyes as she listens to my proposition. I slowly take a step towards her as she's distracted.
"Why would I want to be sent back to the Central Realm?  To be executed for loving a merchant? That's why my father sent me here. He didn't give a fuck about your alliance, Hyunjin. He wanted a reason to get rid of his sinned seed. I've heard that man pray to the Gods that my love was a mistake. I heard Felix scream to the Gods as my father's court hung him for loving me. Why on earth would I go back to the Central Realm? To die? I'd rather die by my own hand."
Turning her dagger to her chest she holds it firmly with her right hand.  Stopping dead in my tracks I begin to panic. Lady Y/n is no fool, if I take another step she'll drive that dagger right through her heart.
"Y/n… my queen… please." Swallowing hard, I try to slowly move towards her. "I've been evil to you. I've shown you the hatred that I did not have the heart to show my mother. I belittled you and I am eternally regretful of my actions. It is only now that I'm being forced to face my mistakes that I realize that you have been the only person to genuinely care about me and my well-being. You came here to honor your late lover's death, not your father's wishes. Let me help you, we'll get married and change this kingdom for the better. We'll make certain that no one will ever have to endure what you have. Especially our daughter, we can turn this all around."
With a weak grin Y/n tightens her grip on the dagger. "My Lord, you can't fool me. You do not care for me and I will not force you to. Besides, I died the moment that my love was taken from me." Y/n's face went blank as she whispered to herself “I’m coming back to you sunshine.”
"Guards!" I ran towards Y/n hoping to save her. Hoping to kiss her like I meant it for once. I wanted to drop to my knees and apologize for the way I've mistreated her. I wrapped my arms around her waist and pulled her into me. The gasps that fell from her mouth gave me the answer that I dreaded before I even looked. "Get me a healer, now!"
Dropping to my knees with her body in my arms I laid her down onto the grass. "Lady Y/n. Darling, please." I held her head up and caressed her flushed cheek. "No, no, no, no you can't leave me too. Come on, wake up."
Blood soaked into the garden soil as my bride bled out. Her eyes fluttered shut peacefully and a mere grin was left on her face. Shaking her body softly I called out to her, praying to the gods that she'd wake up. Praying that the healers could bring my love back. In a whisper I said the words that I didn't have the courage to mutter earlier.
"It wouldn't be horrible at all… to marry you."

Some 24 years ago, Diana Bianchi peered into a microscope at a piece of human thyroid and saw something that instantly gave her goosebumps. The sample had come from a woman who was chromosomally XX. But through the lens, Bianchi saw the unmistakable glimmer of Y chromosomes—dozens and dozens of them. “Clearly,” Bianchi told me, “part of her thyroid was entirely male.” The reason, Bianchi suspected, was pregnancy. Years ago, the patient had carried a male embryo, whose cells had at some point wandered out of the womb. They’d ended up in his mother’s thyroid—and, almost certainly, a bunch of other organs too—and taken on the identities and functions of the female cells that surrounded them so they could work in synchrony. Bianchi, now the director of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, was astonished: “Her thyroid had been entirely remodeled by her son’s cells,” she said. The woman’s case wasn’t a one-off. Just about every time an embryo implants and begins to grow, it dispatches bits of itself into the body housing it. The depositions begin at least as early as four or five weeks into gestation. And they settle into just about every sliver of our anatomy where scientists have checked—the heart, the lungs, the breast, the colon, the kidney, the liver, the brain. From there, the cells might linger, grow, and divide for decades, or even, as many scientists suspect, for a lifetime, assimilating into the person that conceived them. They can almost be thought of as evolution’s original organ transplant, J. Lee Nelson, of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, told me. Microchimerism may be the most common way in which genetically identical cells mature and develop inside two bodies at once. These cross-generational transfers are bidirectional. As fetal cells cross the placenta into maternal tissues, a small number of maternal cells migrate into fetal tissues, where they can persist into adulthood. Genetic swaps, then, might occur several times throughout a life. Some researchers believe that people may be miniature mosaics of many of their relatives, via chains of pregnancy: their older siblings, perhaps, or their maternal grandmother, or any aunts and uncles their grandmother might have conceived before their mother was born. “It’s like you carry your entire family inside of you,” Francisco Úbeda de Torres, an evolutionary biologist at the Royal Holloway University of London, told me.
“In my mind, it does alter my concept of who I am,” Bianchi, who herself has given birth to a son, told me. Although he’s since grown up, she’s never without him, nor he without her.

I won't lie, even as an atheist i am always completely confused by antisemitism in superhero fandoms. We most definetly wouldn't have modern superhero media without jewish men, while they were not perfect (it was the 40s-60s afterall, alot of stuff related to women and characters of color didn't age greatly), these days they make so much of modern pop-culture...it'd propably help if the movies (mainly Marvel) would stop ignoring characters jewish identity (Fantastic Four and X-men movies by Fox), toning them down as much as possible (Moon Knight) or christian-washing them (Scarlet Witch).
yeah, Jewish men literally made the comic book industry but of course their legacy hasn't really been honored. Modern comics in general are so soulless and any Jewish rep is there just to tick a box, at least in my opinion. Like in the Teen Titans Christmas special this year when they had a shot of the Tower decked out in Christmas decorations and then they had 2 tiny Hanukkah banners there just for no reason. Like why are they there?? As far as the comic presents, none of the Titans are Jewish, and the decorations didn't feel like a real Hanukkah decoration at all. It was just a diversity tick with no thought put into it.
I definitely agree that I wish comics would stop ignoring Jewish identity, and it would be great if there were just more Jewish characters in general. And if they do a Hanukkah special or whatever it would be awesome if they hired someone Jewish to write it.
Raven I think is an interesting example of comics being created by Jews - Marv Wolfman is Jewish, and though Raven is primarily Indian coded (mostly in an 80s cultural appropriation way, but I digress) she's also got some things about her that feel Jewish. Arella is an unconventional spelling of a Jewish name (Erela) and Rachel Roth (tho Wolfman isn't the one who gave her that name) is incredibly Jewish.
In the 80s comics Wolfman wrote, Arella's religion before coming to Azarath is unclear. Her birth name isn't Arella, but we don't know what it is beyond that. Raven is a character with a very strong conviction in her fictional, but very non Christian religion. In a way, she's both an antichrist and a Christ allegory (she dies for Trigon's sins, and is resurrected purified of evil to destroy him). She's just a mix of so many different things, and while I do think some of it could be more ironed out (like making her actually Indian instead of a white woman who's very clearly been inspired by Indian culture) I think for the most part these elements work together.
20 years later, Raven gets a reboot, and much of this is gone. Arella's birth name is Angela, and it's now canon that she joined a demonic cult to escape her Christian family. Raven still has a connection to Azarath, but this gets less and less prominent and in the current run, it's completely gone.
I think that even though the cult of Azar is not a real religion, so it's not like anyone was being represented by it, it's very frustrating that they got rid of it in favor of making Raven vaguely culturally Christian (and even outright Christian in the 2018 live action show). Christian homogeny comes for literally everything, even this comic book character's fictional religion that was once a central part of her character.
The weirdest part is Marv Wolfman's modern Raven solos only further reinforce her new Christian backstory, having her stay with her very Christian aunt's family and even having a storyline about pushing her to go to Mass on Christmas, despite him being Jewish himself. It's unclear how much of this was his own writing choices and how much was an editorial mandate, but it's weird.
This got kind of rambley but my main point is modern DC flattens out it's characters to insane degrees, and that includes things like unique religious practices, fictional and real. Everyone is just vaguely culturally Christian with no further thought given to what makes sense for the character, and any religious diversity (in the comics I have read) is almost entirely there just to tick a box with no real thought or depth put in.

YOU
Tumblr media
Grant us your oc’s delicious lore, anything that comes to mind first-
Ah tysm for asking
Tumblr media
(btw I apologize for this being long af 😔)
So I feel like I should prep this by saying before I figured out about LMK I was super into OPS's jttw series. So I made Zhao with the context of the book, and the book doesn't sugar coat things so Zhao's backstory is a bit uhhh, mature? There's no nsfw stuff but there is a lot, lot, loottt of angst (even though the backstory is kinda "simple"), so forgive me :'(
I did change up her backstory a bit for the LMK version because it is a kids show and I don't feel like the creators would stick with the dark tone of the original. Whenever I write OCs for sertant shows I try to write it with the context of "How would the creator tackle this if my oc was a Canon character?" Yk? You don't write a depressed, emo, Greek hero for a light hearted magical girl show.
So ye, this first segment will be her JTTW backstory sum-up and I'll note what is changed in the LMK version at the end👍
JTTW/original backstory(this is long, read at your own risk)-
-Zhao wasn't raised in the best household.. Not only was her father a total womanizer with 3 wives (at the time of her birth, by now he has 7) and who knows how many mistresses, but her elder family member were pretty verbally abusive. I mentioned before but Xiaotian and Biao-Qi (Zhao's father and grandfather) wanted Zhao to be born as a male because in their clan its essential for the first born of every generation to be a boy, so when they found out about Zhao being a girl they were really salty and thought of her as "The disgrace" of the family. (hence why Zhaoyan is a name generally given to Chinese boys, which yea Xiaotian is the type of douche-bag to chose the name of the child at the start of his marriage without the mothers approval)
-Zhao was the one basically raising her younger siblings because her parents couldn't be bothered to, Pangfua (Zhao's mom) couldn't even bare to look at Xiaotian's face so the last thing she cared for was some random children of him and his mistresses, and Xiaotian's other wifes didn't really care for the children either. However, Zhao ADORED her siblings because she was always good with little kids. But as time went on and on, with so many children coming in to the household she started getting tired, but what could she do? At the time she was barely a teenage girl, if she complained to her father she could legitimately be at risk to lose her head. Like I said, Xiaotian couldn't care less about Zhao, he doesn't give a damn if she likes taking care of her siblings or not.
-Eventually Zhao grew too tired of her family, and decided to leave. This might seem selfish but holy frick, the girlie felt like a maid, and it's not like she doesn't care for her family, it's that they couldn't care less about her. All of her siblings were old enough to take care of each other and the other family members treated them well, why shouldn't she be able to "go live her own life"?
- The first place she went was to a temple dedicated to the Chinese tiger spirit- Hu Ye. The reason she went to him specifically was because he was sort of the protector/symbol of Zhao's family (for context think about how Apollo was the protector of the Trojans in the Iliad), she prayed to him all night, she asked humbly to become a Jade Maiden that serves Guan Yin (because that was probably the best option. Also just so you have context- Hu Ye blessed the girls in Zhao's family with a healing gift. So basically they could heal any illness, wound, missing limb etc...). But to her surprise Hu Ye saw what she did as "unforgiving". You shouldn't leave your family who loves you so much, not cool >:( (cut him some slack tho, whenever to family would worship him they would make them self's seem like the most perfect people ever). And so in short he gave her flaming orange hair so she never forgets that she is a Tiger Maiden (bcz orange=tigers and he just be petty like that bro).
-Eventually she went to the woods but she was found by Lánhūa- a forest spirit. Lánhūa took pity on her and decided to take her in as one of her nymphs. Because Zhao had the healing gift she was a great addition to the palace Lánhūa lived in, Zhao was always the one making sure everyone was healthy and the worst someone suffered was a common cold, and even those wouldn't last long.
-However one day while she was collecting fruits for the palace she stumbled upon a strange noise near a mountain, she went to check what it was and wouldn't you have guessed its good ol' Sun Wukong. The pair fairly quickly became friends, Zhao would often tell him stories and keep him company and Sun (who was under that damn mountain for 346 years by the time he and Zhao met) would listen and tell her his life stories.
-At the early stages of the jttw Monkey actually did try and convince Zhao to come with him and the other pilgrims, she would be the one taking care of Tripitaka and making sure he stays healthy. Zhao refused at first but after some time she agreed. Her and Tripitaka were very close because they were both kinda the "sane ones" of the group and Zhao took her position very seriously. Sanzang eventually noticed that this was a bit weird considering how layed back the other pilgrims were, so he confronted her and Zhao opened up to him. And that's how I'd show her backstory in the book.
So in short: Girl leaves abusive family and prays to god, god makes her a ginger and she gets adopted by a hot forest spirit. A monkey befriends her and convinces her to give free health care to his friend **emotional**
Holy crap that took so long to write/ Notes on how her backstory would probably be changed in the lmk version:
In the lmk version I think they'd tone down how bad her family was just a bit, again it is a kids show. I think the start would generally be the same but that Hu Ye would grant her wish. But instead of a disciple for Guan Yin I think they'd change it into a Peach Maiden, so that she could meet the brotherhood and befriend Wukong like she did in the original backstory. They'd probably remove Lánhūa as well (because she is a very minor character in Zhao's backstory). So yea in short of what I think the creators of LMK would do with her character: -Hu Ye grants her wish of becoming a Peach Maiden. -Orange would be her natural hair color(bcz tigers woo). -I honestly think they'd give her a sort-of survivor's guilt because of the whole "leaving your family" thing instead of "Ama give u tiger hair so you never forget how you left your family >:(" -She meets the brotherhood through their lil' rebellion -Healing powers would probably be toned down a bit so there's still some risk
So ya-
Again thank you SO much for the question and thank you for coming to my Ted talk

New Fic - WW Protege - Need Feedback - YJ Universe or Batboys Universe
Elina had heard the story of her birth, so to speak, many a time. She had many nicknames among the Amazonian women who helped care for her, the most prominent being "The Miracle Child." When she was a tot it was a story that amazed her, as a young adult she only had questions.
Elina had been sculpted from clay much like her mother, Princess Diana of Themiscrya. She had pleaded to the gods for a child. Not only a warrior to pass her wisdom too but a child to nurture into a beautiful young woman with a pure heart. Someone to take her place in man's world when she is gone. For days she sat by the shore, sculpting the image of the daughter she wanted more than anything in dark clay resembling her sister Nubia's skin. Unbeknownst to Diana, the gods deliberated amongst the clouds whilst she lay with the small child made from clay.
*Olympus 15 Years Ago*
The pantheon was full with gods and goddesses alike discussing the Amazon’s request. Many were on the fence, the Amazonians had already been gifted Diana. Some thought it pompous of them to ask for another blessing from the gods. Some thought it was a great idea, their explanation- "Diana's presence has increased the number of worshippers we have, another blessing could bring the whole world to believe in the ways of the Greeks."  The decision would ultimately be up to Hades and 'The Big Twelve': Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Aries, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Hermes, and Hestia. Hades had even made a trip to Olympus for the discussion. Most of them were on the same page, the gods leaning in favor of Diana's request. Man's world had new dangers every day, some that had been a threat for the gods, they need more individuals capable of keeping the threats at bay. "Silence!" Zeus bellowed loud enough for all Olympians to hear, the noise ceased at his demands.  "We have heard your logic and reasoning, this matter will be put to a vote of the gods. I, Zeus, believe we should bless the Amazons once more." Responding as they saw fit responses spilled from their lips. With only two dissenting, Hera and Aries, the decision had been made. Diana's dream would come to fruition.
The child would receive the same blessings bestowed upon Diana: from Athena she was given wisdom, from Artemis she received eyes of the hunter and unity with all beasts, from Aphrodite she received immense beauty, from Hermes she was granted speed and flight, from Hestia she gained sisterhood with fire and the ability to discern the truth, and from Demeter immense strength. A few of the gods wanted to give the child their own blessing, after seeing what a success Diana is they wanted to give her all the tools to succeed as well. Aphrodite and Poseidon give her the ability to breathe and perform underwater as she normally would. Hermes gave her the ability to learn any language with just a kiss, partnering with Athena to give her great knowledge. Hephaestus gifted her with enchanted armor and a weapon to match, the armor would be too big for her for a while but the weapon would be a great tool to train her with. Not looking much like a weapon in its base form the magic happened when it was touched, all one needed to do was think of the weapon they needed at the time. The enchanted metal would form itself into said weapon, with the ability to change at a moment's notice with the user's thoughts. The last two blessings were a bit of a shock for the others, not expecting either god to be so generous. Hades presented the gift of a helmet of invisibility, conveniently changing the color of the metal at the last minute to match the enchanted armor from before. Last but not least was Zeus, from behind his back he took a lightning bolt. Many looked on in awe as he quietly enchanted the bolt to replenish itself when needed, placing it upon the stone table with the rest of the blessings he turned towards the others. "Should we contact the Amazons?"
*End of Olympus Scene*
Diana divulged to Elina that as she waited by the shore with her sculpted form Zeus came to her in a vision, telling her that she would be blessed with her child. Conditionally with the blessing of her child she is to teach her the ways of Diana's heart, to give her the same ideals that make her Wonder Woman. Diana would raise her to be a warrior the gods would be proud of, with their blessings and gifts she would be a hero. She had to be.
A/N: Trying to decide if I should write this in the Young Justice universe or a Batboys universe so help me decide? Would you read? Who would you ship with? Sorry not sorry about the tense changes. Any feedback is appreciated.

What do you think of Alicent? I always liked her and Rhaenyra and I feel like it's weird how much Targ stans hate her and how much blame they place on her for the Dance of Dragons. Viserys chose to marry her and he chose to have multiple sons with her. Given that she's a Hightower from the Reach (very conservative) and Jaehaerys I and the Great Council of 101 screwing over female inheritance, why would she never think of crowning her son?
I'm not saying she's a good person but why is that thought considered a huge betrayal of Rhaenyra- she has no relation to Rhaenyra (in Westeros that is) and again, she gave birth to boys which is what every woman is expected to do. As a result those boys get to inherit- that's the trade-off.
Again I feel like people have such a visceral reaction to her that they don't see the logic behind her actions.
fire and blood encourages hostility towards both of them and fandom is notoriously horrible to women. feel like that explains 90% of it. seeing them as nuanced, complicated people? thats already asking a lot, but fire and blood also encourages examination of the text. where asoiaf says: here are the characters thoughts and no one is a raliable narrator, you still had people not examining what is actually on the page, what is actually done, and why and what it results in! and that's WITH characters full thoughts. fire and blood purposely tells you it's unreliable and WANTS the reader to doubt everything they read. if a fan loves rhaenyra and hates alicent, or vice versa, that's literally their problem.
i really wasn't sure what to make of alicent and had a whole ass journey with her in my fire and blood tag. it was never really do i like her or not for me, it was always WHO IS THIS PERSON?
i started to pay attention to just how... neutral fire and blood was irt alicent. i realized i couldn't get a concrete reading of rhaenyra bc there was too much and it was contradictory, and you'd think that''d draw me closer to alicent, but nope. i couldnt' get a concrete reading on alicent because there was nothing there, nothing within the world mythos to even create someone to think about as either goor or bad, to give context to her choices (that are incredibly complex and just HAVE to be informed by various things, and we only have fractured glimpses into what those could have been). i wasn't neutral, not at all, and if asked, i'd say i probably didn't like her, but that dislike was not based on alicent herself. i could come to love rhaenyra bc there was just more there to dicpher, (and bc her choices by process of elimination did a lot to figure out which rumors were likely and which weren't) but i could only wonder about alicent, and bc there isn't much there, i had to look beyond her, to otto, to his place, to the hightowers, and to her position in general in westeros. and that worked really well for me because i have many opinions about westeros and my most vehement are for the reach. i pretty much love every place in westeros (SKAAGOS 4eva), but i abhor the reach and find it represents everything rotten with westeros (more or less lol)
so i hate the reach, and the only actual house i liked from there ironically before starting fire and blood, was house hightower (and the mallisters) especially in relation to the reach. the hightowers, who maintained immense power and could have obtained more, had they wanted it, chose to remain vassals to the tyrells. i liked the hightowers bc they seemed to go against the reach grain. i like that the tyrells are forever the second choice lol, since the hightowers i believe turned down being wardens of the south. the reach is the most performative, the most self-deluded. they genuinely believe they are bastions of chivalry, of the best ideals, when really what they have is unity and money. other families are just as arogant, but they fall apart not because they're horrible human beings lol they do so because they can't remain united against a common foe. the reach has managed to survive mostly because it tends to stick together. i'm not certain of it, but i imagine the marriage alliances are tighter there than anywhere else, with people rarely marrying outside that collection of great houses, redwynes, tarly, hightower, whatever the apples are called, the F OSSAWAYS! even when there was a rift there, they didn't get up and move like the mermaid dudes what's their name? AHHHHHHHH MANDERLAY??? maderly! one of those.
alicent is in a very unique position narratively bc she comes from one of the more mysterious ancient houses. the hightowers are extremely secretive and seemingly deferential, but in this scenario they’re reaching for the throne. so im curious as to how they will actually play the game, having the history of the reach ambition and superiority, with the long con patience and secrecy of the hightowers.
the actual true difference in rhaenyra and alicent i think in is their mythologies within fire and blood, the reason why rhaenyra is teared down where alicent is ignored, her motives left unexamined, i believe it's because the fire and blood writer was from the reach. and the glaring omissions of alicent overall was purposely done to protect her and guide the readers through the text in the opposite way rhaenyra's story did. rhaenyra was such a horrible ,dark, unthinking, lascivious, grasping human being twho used everyone that she probably wasn't. she was probably serious about her birthright and the rumors could've could from both everyone's hatred of her and her not keeping too many people around her. alicent was just there, doing her duty and wasn't really involved despite being part of great decisive changes at court. no one talked about her at all, so it probably meant that she did more than anyone realized and that she was probably good at it since it didn't survive 300 years the way all the rumors about rhaenrya did. SEE WHAT THIS BOOK MAKES YOU DO. if ppl let it, you can go anywhere! you can try to figure out alicent. and that’s where i was at for a long time with her.
i remember exactly at some point during my frist read thinking: why the fuck is the reach always getting away with shit. for every thing that happens to any other house, fire and blood went out of way to tell you every possible variation of the result, usually negatively. for alicent and the reach, there was very little. it was so much fun actually, guessing that one of the maesters was from the reach, imaginging that this was reach propoganda, and then being validated there lol. that told me that in the construction of this mythology, someoen took care to give alicent the wide berth. i think viserys's death in the show will show us where she stands, if she really is the one who won't send for rhaenyra. marrying viserys was clearly forced on her by otto, she had no choice there. but when viserys dies she'll be put in a position i don't think the book clarified. if she sends for rhaenyra and her message is stopped, it speaks to integrity and to this being a real tragedy, with miscommunication, timing and the scheming of others adding to whatever smaller rifts added up through time. if she doesnt' send for rhaenrya, then her ambition is more powerful than whatever loyalty she had to rhaenyra and her husband's decision to enthrone her.
so for me she was someone who was definitely very smart and very conscious of her position and how to maneuver, like everyone in the reach, but also someone with a hightower's caution and self-awareness, her position in fire and blood is too glaring as the nothing to rhaenyra's everything. i have an idea of who she could be from how the show portrays her, but I don't like examining younger character scenes as pure indication of their future, especially not in episode one.also, children can be compelling characters, but their choices are always informed by the machinations of their parents, especially in this story, bc they have no true authority, their agency is limited.
ultimately, whatever their motives, rhaenyra and alicent are fighting the same war, likely for similar reasons but who they are as people whill put things in perspective. i don’t think fire and blood gives us their true actual perspective, so it’s hard to land anywhere. the show will provide good context.and olivia cooke is a real cool actress, that i was always pumped for since hearing of her casting.
one last thing about that. so i really like olivia cooke, when i don’t care about actors at all. haven’t seen everything of hers, but her projects show a lot of range, from drama to humor, and she inflects real pathos into her characters. this is going to make alicent compelling no matter what she actually does. so i’m very excited to see her work with this character.

Blog Post 3
Prompt: What role does “privilege” play in nature interpretation? Please include your working definition of privilege.
Privilege has never been something I’ve given much thought to, and I think many people can resonate with this sentiment. To me, privilege means having an advantage over others and this is granted to some people at birth because of their cultural or socioeconomic classes. It means being able to go through life without much worry and being certain that at the end of the day you will have things your way. I am an Indian, first-generation immigrant, cis woman; in many ways I am privileged and in many ways I am not. My parents decided to immigrate to Canada when I was just 6 years old so that my brother and I could have the best possible opportunities for education and our lives. I am privileged in that aspect as they had to do the hard work for our family to become Canadian citizens. We live in Mississauga which is well known for its diversity, so I never felt like an outcast even when I first moved to Canada.
However, I did face many hardships throughout my life, and being an Indian woman definitely has its caveats. One of the hardest periods in my life thus far was coming into university. I realized that the colour of my skin plays a lot more factors in my life than I had originally thought. It was difficult at first to adjust to the culture at Guelph, but soon I found my people and I found my place within the community. Coming to Guelph is what also allowed me to really get immersed in my own culture and learn how to actually appreciate it. In many ways I was underprivileged and that sucks, but to be honest I have so much to be grateful for in my life, so I choose to look at the positive sides of things.
To me, privilege plays a huge role in nature interpretation. My parents allowed me to grow my love for nature and animals and never discouraged me in trying to pursue an environmental career, and for that I am so privileged. When I was younger I always tried to convince my parents to allow me to get a cat or a dog as a pet, but they refused as we do live in an apartment. So as a compromise my parents got me hamsters, and I currently have one and her name is Peach Fuzz <3. In grade 12, I also had the opportunity to volunteer for High Park zoo where I essentially hung out with llamas and chickens at a petting zoo. I was allowed to venture into nature surrounding my area and my mom would accompany me and just listen to me talk about different trees, invasive species and wildlife. UoG also gave me opportunities to foster my love of nature and I get to take interesting and intellectually challenging classes like ENVS 3000.
Privilege is not often talked about, or at least I try to avoid that subject as much as possible. But I am grateful for this opportunity to be able to reflect back on my life and understand how it has affected and nurtured who I am as a person today.
Here are some cutesy pictures of my hamster, Peach Fuzz btw :)

Views on how writers showed origin slave sultanas in both shows for their backstory.
That’s interesting ask cause I’ve always thought on how different each one of them is portrayed and how this portrayal is supposed to make us feel about them.
The one who is given the most sob story is Hurrem sultan without a doubt. MY starts with 2 scenes first SS ascension and second is showing Hurrem fighting with her kidnappers then a flashback of how she was kidnapped. Now I know one would say well Hurrem is the lead here of course they are gonna show more of her compared to others. Yeah sure but there is a difference between deeply exploring the character which this story is kinda built about and giving your character a sob story while ultimately portraying the other as completely heartless. And yes I am talking about Mahidevran sultan , I was kinda annoyed how the writers completely acted oblivious to the fact that everything Hurrem went through due to slavery and kidnapping is probably the same for Mahi. But no generally the fandom sympathizes with Hurrem story , cause she is the only character that got one, Hurrem stans excuse for some of Hurrem’s actions is that Hurrem was kidnapped completely ignoring that same could be said about Mahi . Another point of contrast between how they were both portrayed is (aside from Mahi ridiculously being favored by royals) that from day 1 Mahi is referred to as “Sultan” because she birthed SS a heir while Hurrem who also birthed SS a heir was still referred to as “Hatun” , she was still referred to as such until she probably birthed Selim (who was undoubtedly a game changer to his mother). It is shown that again Hurrem has to fight for everything within her own while we aren’t shown that with Mahi. So generally huge aspect of Hurrem’s character is her past trauma and how she got over it and personally I am not mad that her trauma is acknowledged and talked about. Huge aspect of Mahi’s character is her coping with SS’ neglect and later the final nail in the coffin is Mustafa’s death, but because Mustafa died later , for so long it was just her coping with neglect and not showing any signs of strength as Hurrem did. Which to me is pure writing favoritism they gave Hurrem a lot of complex features while Mahi is given that she is just a depressed woman fighting till no end and gain getting weaker in the process. Have anyone ever saw the fandom bringing the fact that Mahi was kidnapped and enslaved as a sympathy factor cause personally I haven’t.
The next Sultana of MY is Nurbanu sultan in SO4. Since again MY is majorly built around Hurrem sultan (I mean the show is ridiculously rushed by her death) and SS in SO4 they aren’t acknowledging miseries of slaves in SO4 like they did in SO1 simply because they wanted the most sympathy to go to Hurrem and will later want us to hate Nurbanu so her past story wasn’t as explored but still explored. The approach of Hurrem’s and Nurbanu’ stories is very different. In Hurrem’s case it is more like a little poor girl kidnapped by tatars who lost her family at such a young age like poor girl (yeah poor girl I ain’t complaining) but with Nurbanu she is more portrayed as an entitled princess having valeria as a slave and can’t cope with the fact that she went from being a princess to a slave when you compare Hurrem crying because she is missing her parents vs Nurbanu crying because she is no princess anymore while both imo are valid and no one should be slave , you are just bound to sympathize more with Hurrem. Also to be revealed later Nurbanu is an illegitimate daughter and wasn’t as luxurious as she said add more to her portrayal of being entitled. Lastly Nurbanu is viewed as an opportunistic while Hurrem is the unconventional lover because Hurrem very fairy tale like fell into her lovers arms while Nurbanu chose selim as her prince because she after knowing Selim is going to manisa asked fidan what would that make him be and when she understood it meant he got a chance to ascend the throne she deadass-ly flew to Hurrem and begged her to be within Selim harem. While yes we are given that Selim saving Nurbanu is their first encounter it isn’t that romantic nor is it shown as the final nail in the coffin as to why she went for selim.
Ehhhh
For MYK. Writers completely fucked up this part. While Hurrem growth from her trauma is more gradual, Kosem sultan’s growth happened in the worst way possible. Anastasia (which is played by Anastasia) started off strong as hell , the strongest view TIMs ever gave about slavery and its trauma. Girlie bit ahmed’s hand , scolded him for having her photo in his room as if she is an object, called him barbaric for trying to kill his brother, overall shitted on this Dynasty. She started to gradually love Ahmed but didn’t completely forget about her roots , her choice of not running away came from her loving him (I wanted her to run away but due to historical shit they had to make her stay). Now fast forward to Beren playing Kosem and how her roots being became irrelevant all of a sudden. Ik the change of actress is to showcase a very rushed growth from Anastasia to Kosem , which I am not the one to particularly cry over actresses, but in this case it valid to scream and threw a tantrum because the “growth” happened…because Ahmed didn’t die? Like did the writers go like “we will change actresses and viewers should automatically throw all the aspects the character had with the previous actress”. For this to not be shitting on the writers party, Kosem back story becomes irrelevant to her upcoming actions , she makes it obvious she is trying to hurt Safiye because Safiye is trying to hurt her husband , kidnapped her son for some good minutes and because Safiye is overall a corrupt person. The incident with her father to me just happened to habe something to blackmail Kosem to sell Handan cause otherwise she wouldn’t have done it. Kosem roots and her being Anastasia is brought again in MYK2 when she “kills” Ibrahim. I know that without a doubt Kosem character cannot be build around her roots because she is not given this venerable and loving archetype she is more of a strict and sometimes ruthless person (I don’t agree she is mummy but that’s how they try to portray her) , however, I wished there was more of a logical development as to what made her into this “ruthless” person.
The remaining two are Gulbahar sultan and Ayse sultan. Ayse sultan was written exactly like Mahi but given more pathetic aspects and that’s it. Gulbahar too like mahi she isn’t given any backstory other than she was exiled and stayed away from her son because she tried to dethrone murad again giving us a reason to not sympathize with her(ngl I am halfasssing these two cause I am tired lol)
Anyway, if you’ve made it this far, thank you!

Isn't vampire's thirst can only be quenched by the one they love in a romantic sense or something but as i was re-reading vampire knight, but yuki's entire body felt bloodlust for zero's blood , cause when she thought of kaname she felt a jolt but as she continued thinking of zero she felt thirst , i think it was more for zero's blood . But then again in chapter 65 or 66 , it was like her vampire side was saying how much she desired kaname's blood ,that she was so honest with her desires. Also the fact that she lived almost all her life without kaname's blood , so it makes me wonder .
Does it mean vampires are like humans ?
Why didn't Ai go crazy because of her bloodlust , i mean she was in love with zero , why didn't Aidou go crazy , why didn't Isaya go crazy ?
Like there's just so many people who aren't going crazy after their beloved died ?
Could it be they are able to make choices in the matters of love , they can get over their heart break too . I mean dear kaname also didn't go crazy after the hooded woman died , he should gone crazy because of his thirst ?
Where was Yuki's extreme thirst for zero's blood after she took away his memories of her 😅 , I mean she was watching over him wasn't she until he awakened shouldn't she dying of extreme thirst ?
I think at that time yuki just gave up on everything, her heart was just exhausted.
I think after Kaname's death , she just gave up. She couldn't accept the fact that he is no more , she couldn't accept the fact that she failed to save him , she couldn't accept the fact she loved Zero cause of what happened to Kaname because of her indecisiveness and dishonesty .
But I guess with Ai's birth , she decided to let go of her troubling thoughts and just focused on her child given to her by Kaname and as Kaname stated she is more suited to be under the light so she just gradually couldn't stay in the darkness , she needed light and as always buried her troubling thoughts.
I think it's more likely that her wish of devouring Kaname just transformed into a wish of being devoured by him as she grew in her vampire years . But as always time heals everything (not for Kaname though ) . I don't know what happened after zero died cause that has not been disclosed yet cause it's still atleast 100 years before Kaname's revival. Zero seems to have died now , i am sure like yuki revived Kaname 40 to 50 years after zero died , cause Ai talked about him being the grandson of third generation story teller so yeah i guess . It appears that Taro and Zero died not long after each other .
So where was i ?
Did Yuki love Kaname romantically ?
In the first arc she did , she totally did . I don't think she lied when she told zero that she only desires Kaname's blood . In the second arc not too sure. In Vkm maybe yes and maybe no. Afterall he is not even there.
Love which was hated by the circumstances : yume
Love that seemed tragic but isn't all that much in reality : Zeki
Love that was doomed : Yume
Actual tragedy : Yume

The curse:
The rain poured heavily, the night sky blinding the man who attempted to lead the carriage through the dark forest. His passenger, a prince of the Jeon family, woke him in the middle of the night stating an emergency and that he had to leave at once. As the driver raced through the night, he abruptly pulled on the reins, barely missing a woman in the middle of the road who stood almost invisible in the darkness.
“Why have we stopped”, yelled the prince from within the protection of his carriage.
“T-there’s a woman your highness.”
The prince felt his heart grow cold and the shivers flowing throughout his body could not be blamed on the cold of the night. It could only be one woman, and he realized in that moment he had run long enough. Stepping out of his carriage cautiously, he squinted his eyes willing them to focus in the dark, preparing to meet his fate.
The woman turned around, her eyes brilliantly reflecting the moonlight as she pulled back
the veil from her face. She was beguiling and when the driver saw her, he immediately came down from his seat to kneel in her presence. Eyes glazed over, he indulged in the hexed caresses she gifted him before he took his last breath. Walking over his body on the dirt floor, the witch inched her way toward her target. Prince Jeon knew this day would come, his time had run out. Stepping back, he prepared for whatever fate this woman would bring, that is, until she kissed him.
“Just as you have broken my heart, I will break yours. You knew I loved you, yet you married another. I curse your descendants from now until eternity. You future sons will bear my curse and will never know love. You wanted another woman...so now...you’re lineage will suffer.”
One last kiss, she released a vapor from her mouth, waiting as it filled the royal’s entire being. Smirking, she stepped back and disappeared into the very darkness from where she came, leaving the young Jeon to faint on the rocky soil.

Several generations later:
“The queen has given birth, your majesty, and…”
The king glared at the lady-in-waiting wondering what her hesitation was all about. He had been waiting long enough, wondering if he would have the son he’d always dreamed of, the one to rule over the kingdom someday, but a piercing scream stole his attention.
“What is happening? I thought the queen already gave birth?”
The lady, fearful for her life and her position with the queen, fell to her knees, planting her face against the hard cemented ground.
“Your highness….the child...the child…”
Losing patience, the king spat out venomously, “SPEAK!”
Trembling uncontrollably, the girl spoke the words she knew the king would fear...the one thing he had prayed against for years, even calling in healers and witches to prevent.
“H-he’s cursed.”
The king’s countenance fell, the news shocking him into silence. He had gotten all the promises, the assurance that the curse would certainly pass over his own child, but it seems all of them had lied. He wouldn’t be so good-fortuned to have a curse skip his heir to the throne. Every generation before him suffered the same fate, but luckily they had other male successors. He, however, was not so lucky. At a young age, an accident declared him unable to have children, but by some miracle he had been able to get his wife with child. At his advanced age, he knew this was his last chance.
Walking around the crouched form on the floor, he walked into the queen’s room only to see several of the women-in waiting dead on the floor, the midwife blinded by a cloth around her eyes. She heard a sound to her left and immediately pulled the baby tighter, hiding his vision from whomever had entered the room.
“This baby is cursed, turn back now!”
The king noticed his wife was passed out on the bed and the little bundle of joy now being hidden looked like any other innocent newborn, but the bodies on the floor told another story.
“Silence! Let me have my son.”
The midwife panicked feeling embarrassed for having spoken to the king with such a tone, but she couldn’t be sure. She didn’t want anymore deaths. “Your highness.”
She extends the baby out waiting for the king to grab him. The king, unsure of what he’ll see, walks cautiously toward the newborn, wondering if his life would be spared as all the Jeon’s before were. When he gets close enough to see, the baby turns to look at him with eyes as red as the coals of a fiery furnace. It was enthralling. Beautiful was an understatement, the child, though cursed, was a true inheritor of royalty. Grabbing the baby and holding him up to his chest, he could see now how the curse worked; charm and beauty. Any that looked upon his son would face their death. Any who were drawn in by the corruption in his eyes.
Releasing a breath, the king smiled at the baby wondering if he truly was cursed. Something so beautiful and pure surely could not have done such evil things. When he turns to check him in the light, the baby manages to glance at the midwife who in her ignorance removed her blindfold to tend to the queen. In an instant she drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. In horror, the king covers the baby’s face before walking over to his queen who has now regained consciousness.
“We cannot let this happen. No one must know.”
The queen in her weakened state nodded oblivious to the chaos around her. She had an idea about the screams, but was not awake to see all the bodies lying around her bed. Handing the queen the baby, the king kisses her forehead before walking out of the room in search of a solution. If these healers weren’t able to stop his child from being born cursed, perhaps they could remove it now that he was born. There had to be a solution and he wasn’t going to give up.
He had no other sons to take over for him someday, and he'd be damned if his only existing heir would be stripped of his title. Shaking his fist in the air, he vowed to never stop seeking an end to the curse, hating that it all began with the one Jeon royal who had betrayed a witch all those centuries ago.

“You cannot threaten your nanny dear boy. Who will feed you then?” The young prince’s nanny teased as she slid his food through the slot on the solid metal door that protected all who entered the tower. She was lucky enough not to be killed, having been some sort of miracle angel that Jungkook took a liking to early on. She’d been able to care for him since he was young, being one of three people that were still alive after looking into the eyes of the young prince, but as he got older and smarter, it was impossible to keep him from roaming. Soon the decision of locking him in the southern tower was made, leaving her as his only source of care and companionship.
“Oh come on, old woman, I've spared your life this long, why not let me out of this place?”
“You know good and well why I don’t, besides, it’s been decreed by the king. You wouldn’t want to see me get hung would you?”
Jungkook chuckled at his nanny, the way her wit always matched his own made him smile. There was a reason why he hadn’t taken her life that he had yet to understand, but he was happy that there was at least someone to keep him company. It was true no one was to let him out, as a matter of fact, no one was even allowed to visit him at all. His parents came once a month, but they left all the responsibilities to his caretaker. She would feed him, bring him clean clothes and lines, even read him to sleep, but now that he turned twenty three, he was growing bored.
“I wouldn’t allow it. I am the prince. You’re my favorite person. I’m mature enough to leave, I know I am. I won’t hurt anyone, I promise.”
“Oh young sweet boy. I know that, but your eyes tell another story. You can’t help what you do.”
The old woman turned to grab the now clean royal jacket she meticulously prepared for him. She did this with all his things, loving the boy like her own, even if he was cursed with a power beyond her imagination. She didn’t believe he could pose such a danger when she first met him, having been the thirtieth person in line to fill this position. She had heard of all the previous women jumping off the castle tower and even killing themselves in front of the boy’s eyes. He’d been painted a monster, an evil killer, but his curse he could not help. For some reason, when it was her turn to meet him , the young child loved her right away. The King and Queen immediately hired her, forcing her to commit to the care of their son on the threat of death to her and her family. They were desperate, she came to realize that later, and she couldn’t blame them.
“I am not a killer. I’m just me. Why can’t people see that? Am I to be locked in here for the rest of my life!?”
“Hush now, young one. Your parents are still seeking a remedy. I know they will find one soon.”
“At what price? I’m mad….mad with loneliness and starved for touch. This is no way to live.”
“I know, sweet boy. I know.”
Leaving his highness in order to tend to her own life, the caretaker closed the door to the tower leaving Jungkook to stew in his thoughts once again. Although he had everything he could ever need in his tower, the room lavishly appropriate for his royal status, he felt abandoned and alone. His parents always promised a solution, but he was an adult now, and his patience was growing thinner.
+++
The next morning Jungkook awoke to an empty room once again, his fireplace having gone out some time during the night causing a chill to run up his spine. It was enough to make him bury his head under the thick wool blankets his sweet caretaker had requested especially for him. She’d be there any minute to make sure he had enough firewood and a full belly to keep him warm. He could see the flurries falling outside his window, the wooden shutters doing nothing to keep the cold out.
Lithely he stretched his body, suddenly aware of the arousal beneath his silk pajamas. Too many mornings he’d woken up just like this with no way to quell his desires. Of course just like any man, he’d wrap a hand around himself and spill his seed on his pillow, something his sweet old keeper never brought up when the laundry had to be done. And he never regretted it, not once, knowing that his semen was probably also cursed as well.
It wasn’t enough that he had to live his life locked away, but his own eyes always reminded him daily of the evil lurking within him, stealing his peace. He never meant to hurt people, it just happened, and he hated it.. All of the Jeon’s that carried this damnation would end up marrying and becoming even more evil. Some speculated that love made them mad, their evil corrupting everything in its path, but this time it was different. This time, he was the only heir, and the kingdom below his tower needed a leader, thus the obsession his parents had with finding a solution. However, in all this time, a cure has never been found.
He wondered often if they even loved him. How could parents just place their child inside of a tower for over a decade and not bat an eyelash? He could excuse them but for the fact that they hardly came to see him. Maybe they were busy, he mused. Why else would they not come?
A sudden knock to his door brings him out of his reverie, his thoughts already too overbearing. He stands to slide his feet into the fluffiest wool slippers made by the one and only person who’s ever shown him love. ‘To keep your royal feet warm’, she had told him.  Smiling he walks over ready to greet her and accept her delicious food.
“It’s about time old woman, I could have starved waiting.”
The response he received was not expected. A male with a deep voice cleared his throat before speaking. “Your highness, I bring grave news. Your caretaker has passed away. The majesties are currently seeking someone new. Please await further information. Here’s a meal sent by her majesty.”
A bowl of oatmeal slid through the small window, the opening that he would share with the only person in the world that loved him.  He knew she did….and now... she was gone? He stared at the steam rising from the bowl, his mind completely numb and spaced out. Had he heard correctly? Before he could ask, the sound of the tower's doors closing made it clear the knight had run out just as quickly as he was sent in. They probably chose him due to his position as an elite soldier for the king, as if a mere suit of armor were enough to protect him from Jungkook’s power.
“Death…” Jungkook repeated to himself, his lips barely moving, the word like acid on his tongue. She couldn’t be dead...not her. He never hurt her, would never hurt her. It took him a moment to understand what was happening and to register the fact that he was going to be alone-- again.
Time passed by, hours without a word about his caretaker and the reason for her death. He wasn’t sure about the lengths his power could go, but he was sure he hadn’t done anything to kill her. As if on cue, moments before he lost his composure, the doors to the tower open. The creaking louder than he remembered, causing him to spring up from the hunched position he’d been in for hours.
Running to the door of his room, he presses his ear against it eager to hear some kind of  life on the other side that would inform him of the events that have transpired.
“Son?”
The voice coming from the other side was one he hadn’t heard in a month and Jungkook hated that it took death for his father to come and see him again. Walking backwards until his legs hit the edge of his bed frame, he falls back onto the mattress, his body bouncing off the springs.
“What?” Jungkook replies, his tone a bit more annoyed than he meant it. He was partially annoyed with his non-existent parents, added with the death of someone he’s come to love as his own family.
“I’m sorry. I know you loved, _____. The doctors said she didn’t suffer, having passed away in her sleep. I hope this brings you comfort.”
Gripping the sheets in anger, his bottom lip on the verge of bleeding from the way his top teeth pressed into his skin, he held his tongue at the words he wanted to say-- angry at the way his father could speak her name so easily. She was the only person Jungkook loved and now she was gone.
“How?”, was the only word Jungkook spoke. He was worried it was his fault, that he had made this happen and that he'd ruined the only good thing he had in life. His mind scrambled with endless scenarios of what might happen to him without someone to keep him grounded. What if he was left alone from now on? What if he were left to rot for the rest of his life--alone?
“The doctors aren’t sure, but they believe it to have been natural causes. It wasn’t you if that’s what you think.”
“I didn’t say that!”
Not wanting to argue with his obviously distraught son, the king simply walked to the exit, preparing his last words carefully. “Tomorrow there will be a new caretaker. It is the daughter of your beloved elder.”
Jungkook stopped breathing, his heartbeat so loud in his ears he thought for sure he misheard. “Daughter?”
How could they just send someone new without knowing whether or not he’d end their life? And even though that was the biggest concern, the fact that his old caregiver had a daughter was news to him. Why had she never told him? Did she not trust him? It seemed to Jungkook that the fact she had a child was relevant information to share. After all, she had known all about him.
For a  moment he worried, but then something else overtook him. Had everyone lied to him? Was he just some monster that no one trusted? If she kept that information, what else had she kept? The entire day he seethed, never once getting up and out of his bed, his heart troubled and mind overcome. Late into the night, sleep finally came, but not before he made himself a promise. Everyone that came into his life from now on would pay...pay for the sins of their ancestors before them.
+++
It was the next morning when Jungkook’s eyes opened suddenly, his heart leaping into his throat at the sound of dishes being moved around. Had he dreamt all of it? Running to the small window where he received his food, he slid open the limited gap that prevented him from affecting anyone on the other side. Calling out her name in hopes that it really had been a nightmare, he gets no response. What he does see are a pair of smaller, younger looking hands sliding a bowl through filled with his favorite porridge. It smelled exactly like the one she used to make him and for a moment he watched confused.
The sliding door was at the height of his knees so he couldn’t meet the eyes of the other person, but from what he could see….this was not his old maid. He waits as your hands pull back and unable to keep silent any longer, he calls out, his voice brittle and broken. “Wait! P-Please...who are you?”
There is no answer, but of course he wasn’t expecting there to be. Who would speak to a demon like him? The little window closes leaving his bowl mid way to his side of the slot. Placing his hands over the rounded bottom of the ceramic bowl, he pulls it in and inhales sharply, his stomach growling at the memory of the delicious food before him. He begins to eat, all too consumed with the meal before him to even wonder about the person on the other side, and you were there still, he knew it. The caregiver assigned to him was always to stay the entire day from dawn to dusk, that was the rule.
As his day went on, he heard the rustling sounds on the other side, your actions mimicking those of the older caregiver making him wonder if he was suffering some horrible joke. You behaved just like your mother and it was starting to mess with his mental stability. Just as before, his meals came on time, the quality made for a royal prince, and just as delicious if not more than his ex-caregiver. He wondered how long it would be before you ran away in fear of the prince known in all the kingdom as a cursed evil being.
He was surprised your mother hadn’t told you that he was cursed. Why else would you be here? Surely not of your own accord? Then again, he shouldn’t be that surprised when he himself had never been told of the stranger in his tower by her either.
His belly full and his curiosity spiked, he dared attempt conversation once again, only needing to be acknowledged once. “I’m thirsty.”, he lied. He had no need of any beverage, as prince he had everything he needed. Before your mother had died, she made sure to stock him up with everything he wanted, always spoiling him beyond what was acceptable. Shaking off the sudden reminiscence, he waited for you to respond.
The only return he got was a glass of clean water being pushed through in a rush. Before you could pull back, he managed to grab your hand, keeping you from leaving. A small gasp escaped you and Jungkook’s body broke out in goosebumps. Your voice sounded fragile, soft, and sweet...a sound he doesn’t remember ever hearing before. Unsure if he would hurt you, he panics and lets your hand go, a bit embarrassed by how quickly you pulled away and shut the door on your side of the hole. He could still hear you breathing however, your chest probably heaving faster than your corset allowed for the intake of oxygen to enter your lungs.
His hand burned, yet there was nothing visible on his skin. What was this? The rest of the day went by quickly, your new attempts at getting him his supplies more and more creative as you made sure never to leave yourself open to being touched again. He was amused by your stubbornness and determination to not encounter him once more. He knew people didn’t want to know him, but seeing it in action was something altogether entertaining. He doesn’t know why he thought to even touch you. What did he expect to accomplish? Pity? Conversation? A friend?
Before he knew it, you were gone, and he was left in his thoughts. You obviously knew about him, why else would you have withdrawn your hand the way you did? It didn’t matter to him suddenly, the thought of a young woman tending to him now the main distraction. He doesn’t remember what it was like to associate with someone his age.  Were you even his age? How old had the caretaker been? Were you younger or older? From the look and feel of your hands….your soft skin…
Lost in thought over you, he pauses realizing he’s aroused. A simple touch, so foreign, yet so exciting, was all it took to keep him from falling asleep. Imagining what you might look like, he decides to do what he knows would help him reach his slumber quicker. Grabbing the pillow by his side, he slides it between his thighs and begins to rut against the silk fabric. His tip was already sensitive, the entire day’s curiosity over the existence of a young female keeping his senses on high alert. As he thrust into it, pressing it against himself eagerly, he became aware that his ex-nanny would no longer be the one cleaning this pillow for him...no….you  would be...and the thought thrilled him all the more. Turning so that the pillow was now under him, he pulled his long cotton pajama up over his hips in order to have better access to the soft sensation of the material below him. Rolling his hips slowly, he revels in the motions, quietly whimpering into his closed fist, imagining it to be the hands of the women who now haunted his thoughts.
In no time he was shuddering, extremely embarrassed that he had cum so quickly. He’d played with himself enough times to understand how his body worked, his experience by his own hand helping him to hold back his orgasms in order to increase the pleasure, but the thought of a woman was something altogether too powerful even for him. His heart finally calming down, he turned onto his back and blew out a frustrated breath. If you were going to be his new keeper, he knew he'd have a lot more days of irritation ahead.
Placing the now soiled pillow into the laundry hole that his previous caregiver had installed for her to access the prince’s dirty clothes and bed covers, he smirks at the thought of what you  might think when you saw it. You would clean it, it was your responsibility after all. If you were anything like your mother, you’d do your job perfectly and without question.
Getting back on his comfortable mattress, he laid back, a hand over his eyes as he pondered so many questions about the daughter he never knew about. Were you beautiful? As beautiful as your soft skin? Have you been trained to take care of him? Since when? Had you known all about him, yet he knew nothing of you? Eventually sleep overtook him, and that night he dreamed he saw your face…

Day 3: Jon Snow ( his love for Arya)
I don't think that I can add to this particular topic any more than what my fellow bloggers already have.
Textually Jon and Arya's relationship is something that is so rich that it has become a point of a massive confluence of a great many rhetoric.
For example we have Jon, the "bastard" of Winterfell. The young boy who has always felt unwanted, out of place and like a black blot in Catelyn Stark's family. Hence he yearns to know the person who had birthed him. 'The mother'. The woman who has been a tight lipped secret and a point of speculation among many.
Not my mother, Jon thought stubbornly. He knew nothing of his mother; Eddard Stark would not talk of her. Yet he dreamed of her at times, so often that he could almost see her face. In his dreams, she was beautiful, and highborn, and her eyes were kind.
Your half brothers, a voice inside reminded him. And Lady Stark, who will not welcome you. There was no place for him in Winterfell, no place in King's Landing either. Even his own mother had not had a place for him. The thought of her made him sad. He wondered who she had been, what she had looked like, why his father had left her. Because she was a whore or an adulteress, fool. Something dark and dishonorable, or else why was Lord Eddard too ashamed to speak of her?
And yet ironically, this boy would be the one person (in the current generation) to best know exactly what kind of woman his mother had been. He would know her eyes, her temperament and even to some extent her principles too. For his mother, Lyanna Stark, has found her doppelganger in her niece Arya- both in appearance and in spirit.
And of course Jon has Arya's love ( I mean it here in a platonic sense). And what a love it is! It is almost a boon given to him to make up for what has been so unceremoniously taken away. And this love that is shared between them goes with him beyond the walls of winterfell and bleeds into his future relationships.
His first encounter with Ygritte goes like this:
Jon could see fear and fire in her eyes. Blood ran down her white throat from where the point of his dirk had pricked her. One thrust and it's done, he told himself. He was so close he could smell onion on her breath. She is no older than I am. Something about her made him think of Arya, though they looked nothing at all alike. "Will you yield?" he asked, giving the dirk a half turn.
Then again:
"I never meant to steal you," he said. "I never knew you were a girl until my knife was at your throat."
"If you kill a man, and never mean t', he's just as dead," Ygritte said stubbornly. Jon had never met anyone so stubborn, except maybe for his little sister Arya.
Later he has this to say about Val:
Val looked the part and rode as if she had been born on horseback. A warrior princess, he decided, not some willowy creature who sits up in a tower, brushing her hair and waiting for some knight to rescue her.
And again:
Lonely and lovely and lethal, Jon Snow reflected, and I might have had her.
It is clear to see who has influenced Jon's taste in his love interests. And it goes both ways. In Arya's POV we have this interaction:
Dusk was settling as they stopped to rest... "I'm cold and wet," Hot Pie complained. "... We could have us a fire—"
"NO!" Arya and Gendry both said, at the exact same instant. Hot Pie quailed a little. Arya gave Gendry a sideways look. He said it with me, like Jon used to do, back in Winterfell. She missed Jon Snow the most of all her brothers.
While Arya has had positive interactions with almost all the male members of her family, it is Jon with whom she had the strongest bond (they could finish each other's sentence). And this thus becomes relevant as canonically Grrm has written a love song for the gendrya pairing.
Beyond these matters of the heart or perhaps as an extension of it: both Jon and Arya consider 'home' to be situated in a person. Throughout the series Arya has tried to return to Winterfell in hopes of reuniting with her family. But another wish that she has had, is to go north to the Wall, to reunite with Jon.
When at last she slept, she dreamed of home. The kingsroad wound its way past Winterfell on its way to the Wall, and Yoren had promised he'd leave her there with no one any wiser about who she'd been. She yearned to see her mother again, and Robb and Bran and Rickon . . . but it was Jon Snow she thought of most. She wished somehow they could come to the Wall before Winterfell, so Jon might muss up her hair and call her "little sister."
Her strongest belief is that even if the whole world rejects her for being unsatisfactory, she would always, always have Jon and indeed in ADWD we see the Lord Commander of Night's Watch proclaim that Arya's home is with him.
Bring her home, Mance. I saved your son from Melisandre, and now I am about to save four thousand of your free folk. You owe me this one little girl.
This then brings into question the intensity of Jon's love for Arya. In AGoT Jon tries to desert in favour of joining Robb's quest for vengeance but ultimately he turns back and decides that the time has passed and he can longer interfere in the matters of the realm.
And yet in Adwd we see him risking his position as the lord commander (something that is highly coveted by individuals who have no hope to rise high in life within the constraints of the westerosi world order) of an 800 year old institution to save his 'sister' from the cruel clutches of Ramsay Bolton.
However Jon's decision to violate the neutrality of the NW has not been an easy one. There is a dilemma presented in the series across numerous povs: the constant push and pull of the two opposite facets in life, the facets of duty/honour vs love/desire of the heart. It has played a part in Arianne Martell and Arys Oakheart's relationship. It is present in Jaime arc: Cersei vs his duty as the commander of Kingsguard and I don't know if it can be said, but perhaps it was present in Rhaegar and Lyanna's storyline as well...so it is only fair that it should play a part in their son's life too.
Jon struggles throughout ADwD, going back and forth debating the worth of his honour and the depth of his love for his little sister:
"I have no sister." The words were knives. What do you know of my heart, priestess? What do you know of my sister?
I don't think anything else can summarize Jon's internal conflict more than these lines. But ultimately, with the threat of Bolton wanting his bride back, what triumphs over everything else is Jon's heart. He thus manipulates Stannis into form an alliance with the mountain clans, with the northern lords so that the Baratheon may participate in his quest to rescue Arya.
And of course! the sheer magnitude of this act is felt by his Black Brothers. The fact that a lord commander can neutralize the Watch's position as an nonaligned institute is unthinkable! And so Jon dies. He dies with his brothers betraying him. With the thought of Arya.

just read your unplanned pregnancy hcs and first of wow second could you maybe write a continuation to them like maybe during the pregnancy or once the baby (or babies they could have twins) are born. Albedo's had me appdiisodhs like i need answers and i need some closure lmao
sorry this has taken so long anon, been a crazy couple of weeks lol. part 2 to this
diluc's is kinda short bc his ended on a happy note (o´∀`o)
before reading: reader is written as afab and goes by they/them pronouns but feel free to change it to whatever you want in your head, pregnancy, babies
diluc
he adjusted the best he could when you decided to keep the baby
neither of you were expecting a child anytime soon but like you said before, maybe it was a sign
and with diluc's status in mondstadt, no one even batted an eye wrong in his direction
in fact, you were showered daily with gifts or food from the townspeople of mondstadt (there was a rumor that some thought you were bearing an heir to the invisible throne of mondstadt)
in the rare occasion someone said something negative about the pregnancy, usually someone drunk at the tavern, diluc was quick to shut them down
After you gave birth to your babies (yes, you had twins), you thought the overwhelming support from the people of Mondstadt would stop. Instead, it only increased.
When you and Diluc entered the city, each holding a baby, you were always crowded right away. Elderly woman would knit your babies clothes and the young teenagers offered babysitting services. It should have been overwhelming but since your pregnancy was unexpected (having twins was even more unexpected) the extra help was greatly appreciated.
Woodworkers built you cribs for free and shop owners happily donated extra stock for your children.
After a long day in Mondstadt, that was supposed to be a quick trip, Diluc collapsed on the couch. He had both babies in his arms, cuddling them to this chest, while you carried multiple bags full of goods.
"People are so generous," You huffed out, putting the bags down and falling back next to Diluc, "Almost too generous."
He laughed tiredly and readjusted himself so you could snuggle into his side. "It's better than them being hateful, right?"
You nodded in agreement, "Much better."
zhongli
he was right about no one crossing him during your pregnancy
when you went for walks around liyue around, people turned their heads and paid no attention to you
to zhongli, that was delightful - no one cared
to you, it was uncomfortable
you had mortal friends in liyue who had gotten pregnant after marriage and they were praised from strangers on the streets and given free food or wisdom from elders
but not you
You were almost to term when Zhongli wanted to take you out to dinner at the Liyue Pavilion. Childe had given him a hefty check as a Christmas gift and Zhongli wanted to spend it on you and your unborn baby.
The restaurant was packed for a weeknight and Zhongli left for a moment to use the restroom. You sat at the table, absentmindedly rubbing your belly and shoveling noodles into your mouth.
"Isn't that the town whore?"
The words made you freeze. You heard the voices behind you and refrained from spinning around and glaring at the young women.
"It is! I heard this is the third time she's gotten knocked up and her boyfriend wouldn't let her kill it this time!"
"Boyfriend? She's not even married? I would be so ashamed to have her as my daughter - her poor family."
You stopped eating then. The women giggled and their voices faltered away. Your hand stopped rubbing your belly and laid there, your other hand clenching your chopsticks.
You didn't even realize you were crying until Zhongli came back to the table and alerted you.
"Oh, um, hormones," You lied, dropping your chopsticks to roughly push away your tears. Your sniffled and looked up, dabbing at the corners of your eyes to try and stop the tears. "I'm really not hungry anymore. I'll meet you outside, okay?"
You struggled to stand up and once you did, you waddled outside of the restaurant. You tried to pull your cardigan over your belly but since you were so far along, there was no way to hide it. It felt like the world was caving in on you. People could be so cruel.
Suddenly, you felt two arms wrap around you, pulling you into warmth. You smelled Zhongli's scent and clutched onto his shirt, letting even more tears fall.
"A worker told me what happened after you rushed out," He whispered into your ear, "I'm sorry."
"Why are you apologizing?" You sniffled.
"I wasn't there to protect you from them."
You looked up at Zhongli and he wiped away your tears. "Can we go on a vacation?"
When you said vacation, you didn't mean a week away to the beach. Honestly, you didn't feel safe in Liyue and you certainly didn't want to raise a baby in a city this strict.
"Of course we can," Zhongli said, immediately knowing what you meant, "Have you even been to Mondstadt?"
albedo
the minute you returned home on that eventful day, albedo began packing your bags
he knew what the knights were capable of and frankly, he didn't fully trust them right now
you were on the road by night and within two weeks (horses and carriages did wonders to help you), you had safely arrived in fontaine
you stayed in the country for your entire pregnancy and when your son turned a year old, the three of you started your journey back to mondstadt
When you stepped inside the gates of Mondstadt, you swore you could hear every hushed whisper rush into your head. Albedo stood firmly by your side, his hand on the small of your back as he urged you to continue walking towards the headquarters.
Your son wiggled in your arms but you didn't put him down. Until you knew exactly what was going to happen with the Knights, you weren't going to let your son out of your sight.
Fortunately, both Kaeya and Jean were doing paperwork in her office when Albedo knocked. He walked in first and they jumped up, extremely concerned with his absence.
You hesitantly walked in after Albedo and your coworkers stared for a moment.
"Wow," Kaeya said, "You did have the baby."
"We did," You confirm.
There's an awkward silence. No one knows what to say since the last encounter with each other ended so horribly. Jean is the one to finally speak up, "I think we owe you two an apology."
Kaeya nods in agreement. "After you two left, we realized we may have been too harsh on you both. We are getting to that age, after all."
Albedo glances at you from behind his shoulder and you smile softly to him. He turns back to Kaeya and Jean, "We'd like our positions back in the Knights of Favonius."
"You never lost them," Kaeya cheekily says. Albedo nods his head again, not wanting to say the wrong thing. You step forward and rub your son's back, getting his attention. You introduce him and Kaeya bends down towards the baby, "Why, hello there."
Your boyfriend cautiously watches from a distance as his friend dotes on his son. Eventually, Jean comes over to meet the child too.
If you thought about the situation hard enough, you still got upset. But seeing Kaeya and Jean love on your son instead of exiling him made you feel a lot better. Of course, you wished it didn't go down the way it did but the past was the past.
And as Albedo reached out to squeeze your free hand, you knew he felt the same way.

I was wondering...I was always confused about Narcissa’s hair. It’s been a while since I read the books. Did she color it blonde to show her now belonging to House Malfoys. Or was it naturally blonde? Movies confused me a bit I guess.
Yes, this had me confused too! I've agonized and toiled over it, more than I probably should, about how I should draw her hair because people have generally different views, which is totally understandable! 💕
And I've always wanted to discuss it, so now that I've been given a reason to... Well.
If you take a look at some of my Narcissa fanart, you'll notice the different ways I'd color her hair. I was so confused. Is she a light blonde? Dark blonde? A mix of raven hair and blonde hair? If she has blonde hair then why does her family have (mostly) dark hair? And WHY does she have blue eyes?! This woman is absolutely confusing! (Which is kind of, you know, fitting because Narcissa always loves to be a mystery to literally anyone lol)
So I did my homework, asked around, and scoured every bit of information, canon or otherwise, that I could find about her. It led me to this:
Tumblr media
In canon, this is what the Black sisters look like. You can find the page here. Narcissa is a child here, and already has blonde hair. So we can go ahead and safely assume that she was born with natural blonde hair. But in the films, Narcissa has black and blonde hair. I don't actually know why they gave her that hair color, maybe so that the audiences wouldn't question her blood relations with the Blacks--I don't know. I really don't. But now we have a book version Narcissa, one who has full blonde hair. And a movie version Narcissa, one who has raven and blonde hair. At least, that's how the different hair colors started: a movie version, and a book version.
So... here's where it gets confusing.
To my knowledge, it isn't actually explained why her hair color is the way it is in both the movies and the books. Having blonde hair does raise many questions, how is she the "only" blonde in a family of dark hair and dark eyes? To top it all off, it gets even more confusing, because fanon writes and draws her either as a full blonde or a mix of raven and blonde hair. We just have this large pile to sift through of her having either hair color. No one actually explains anything. She's just... infuriatingly there. She's either blonde or raven haired and blonde. BUT fanfiction writers, as I've observed, give their own reasons why Narcissa's hair color is the way it is in their respective stories. And it's actually pretty creative and interesting! It adds even greater depth to her character, and it fits the narrative of the story even better. Remember, the character we're dealing with is Narcissa Black. One of her main traits is "she won't do anything unless there is a clear purpose behind it." This character is deliberate, meticulous, and she makes sure to plan ahead at all times. And so, some fanfiction writers decide to play on that.
You can skip this part if you want to avoid spoilers but I've compiled a small list of instances in (Cissamione) fanfiction where Narcissa's hair is mentioned.
🔹 In Extinction by rubikanon in Chapter 10: Build and Break, Hermione asks Narcissa about it. Here, Narcissa has black and blonde hair. She explains that she only decided to dye it blonde to "fit in with the Malfoys." We can gather two things from that alone, which resonates with her character perfectly: 1.) Narcissa is loyal and 2.) Narcissa purposefully wants to show the rest of the world how loyal she is by committing to having blonde hair. The woman has some serious commitment, and it shows. But now, the way that it's slowly growing back into her natural black hair color, hints that perhaps Narcissa no longer wishes to fit in with the Malfoys. However, if we take an even closer look, we can safely assume that Narcissa isn't the kind of person to just leave her hair color "unattended" like that. Remember, she's meticulous. And this is a big deal for her, the fact that she's just kind of letting it grow back instead of either fully dyeing it back to black, or dyeing it back to blonde. It suggests that perhaps she's a little unsure this time, perhaps it is her uncertainty that is the reason why it's now a mix of both. Another grey area? Or maybe it's actually something more deliberate? Maybe now, she likes that it's a mix of both. That other half now being solely for Draco, and not to fit in (completely) with the Malfoys any longer. Who knows why Narcissa does things the way she does? We can speculate to the ends of the earth, or be as smart as Hermione Granger (or with the case of Extinction, see Hermione's thoughts), but something tells me we'd still be a good step behind.
"Which one is your natural hair color?" I wondered aloud.
(Narcissa) She glanced up at the unexpected question. I was relieved she hadn't sensed my attention yet. It's not like I meant anything by it, I told myself. She was so beautiful, one couldn't help but notice. And feel physically drawn to her. And want to see her two-toned hair fanned across her back, slipping over the bare skin, silky beneath my fingers...
"Why do you ask?" Her query brought me back to reality, and I hurriedly corrected my imagination to include a pretty dress covering the rest of her.
"I don't know." I chewed the inside of my cheek, suppressing my other thoughts. "I'm just curious."
Her gaze returned to the fire. "You've seen enough of my relatives to guess which color is genetic. The blond is something I added to fit in with the Malfoys, after Draco was born." She was quiet for a moment. "He looks so much like his father. I suppose I wanted to share some resemblance."
🔹 In Killing Me Softly by Looktotheedges in Chapter 4: Nagging, Hermione suggests that perhaps Narcissa is part Veela because of her blonde hair and very attractive features, like Fleur. Which is this whole other theory/plot that's very interesting, but won't be discussed in this post. Narcissa tells Hermione that Sirius has always been blonde, and that it isn't out of the question for her to be blonde either. Sirius Black. A blonde. I know! Maybe it's there because it's funny that Sirius is actually blonde like Narcissa. Prissy, haughty, lady-like Narcissa. Arguably the 'girliest' cousin that he has. No, no, no. He doesn't want to be anything like Narcissa. Anyway, if that's the reason, I think that's hilarious and cute.
Narcissa turns away. 'I am aware my appearance is frightfully drab. Work has been…'
Hermione holds back a disbelieving scoff. 'Narcissa. You always look beautiful. And you’re talking to the witch with grass in her hair who practically lives in her office all week.'
Narcissa just leans further over the crib. 'A blonde little boy. It has been so long since… I can almost imagine…'
Hermione stands next to her. Looks down at the peacefully sleeping Louis. He does look remarkably like Draco. 'Are you sure there’s no Veela blood in you? You weren’t secretly switched at birth?'
'Like a changeling?'
'It would explain your blonde hair.'
'Sirius was also blonde, it is not completely out of the question for us Blacks.'
What?!
(...) 'I know. But it is the truth. He was blond until he was about seven… then it began to darken. Mousy. Dull. He wanted to look cool and brooding instead, so he got his hands on some kind of charm right before he set off for Hogwarts. A new, edgy Sirius. It was around then he forbade us from calling him Siri. Said it sounded too girly.'
🔹 In Fixed in Time by TheWorldsaBeastofBurden in Chapter 9: Sisters and Saviors, it's also tackled a little humorously. Andromeda let's a little comment slip while they're in the middle of trying to heal Hermione. Something funny, something that suggests Andromeda and Bella, when they were children, have always wondered why Narcissa is blonde unlike them.
The first words spoken occurred after they’d risen and attempted their casting. Andromeda’s preparedness to take on their task had been clear in her mind so Narcissa rose with her sister, wrapped an arm around her waist and held her near as the woman raised her wand to draw up the rest of the injury she’d dropped, half a slash across Hermione’s hip bone…
That remained half, as Andromeda growled out, “...it isn’t working.” she looked to Narcissa, “Why aren’t you powering me?”
What nonsense? “I am!” she insisted. She was! Or “I- I am trying to!” Her magic was active and alive, pulsing to rise from her skin and transfer into Andromeda’s but it- it wasn’t working! “Could...could it be that you were disowned?”
“Disowning doesn’t take away the fact that we share blood, our magic is directly related. Ugh, Bella always said you were adopted!”
“Oh ha- oh.”
“...oh?” Andromeda returned.
“...it’s not an issue of power. It is what I intend to aid in casting,” Narcissa slowly worked out. Oh, it was most blessed Mister Goyle could be brought to assist the present Hermione. If her present self had been brought to aid Andromeda? “...I cannot harm Hermione.”
Andromeda sighed with some frustration. “I understand you are so tenderly in love-”
“It isn’t- I’m avowed! I- when we arrived from the future we had to escape Malfoy Manor, I couldn’t bring Hermione through the wards without...I couldn’t add her directly, that would be visible. I had to...attach her permission to mine.”
🔹 In Glass Silence by Zarrene Moss (Menzosarres), which probably gives one of the most interesting backstories for Narcissa's hair, for why it's blonde. I can't put a clip of the scene here without hogging up a huge chunk of space on your dash, so I'll try to explain it as best I can instead.
Understand that these come with serious 🛑spoilers🛑 so please do read it at your own risk.
In Glass Silence, Narcissa's hair and eye color was black at birth. But after an accident with raw magic, something Bellatrix wasn't able to control when they were children, Narcissa almost dies. Bellatrix, using even more raw magic, tries desperately to pull Narcissa's "life force" back, but at the cost of losing the eumelanin that made Narcissa's eyes and hair black. Narcissa survived, but now has very little eumelanin left, which is why she's so pale, blonde, and has blue eyes. Every time Narcissa looks at a mirror, her reflection is a reminder of the day she almost died. Bella, on the other hand, is reminded of that day every single time she looks at Narcissa.
So! These are only a few fanfictions I could think of at the top of my head that tackles the issue of Narcissa's hair. In the books, to my knowledge, she is described as having blonde hair and very pale skin.
But let's take another deep dive, if you're up for it.
These are mostly theories, which are largely unconfirmed, but I think they're interesting to think about.
There's this description in the wiki:
"Narcissa Malfoy is described as tall, slim, "nice looking", and very pale, with blue eyes, long blonde hair, and a clear, cold voice. Her hair colouring thus differs from most of the House of Black, who generally have dark hair, though Narcissa does possess the arrogant good looks characteristic of her family."
There's also this pinterest photo of the Black sisters being compared to each other side by side, descriptively and physically. I'm so sorry, I don't know who drew it, but here's a link to the post on pinterest.
Tumblr media
"Narcissa threw back her hood. She was so pale she seemed to shine in the darkness... long blonde hair streaming down her back."
Which is interesting because this hints that she's... different. It's a bit literal in this sense--she comes from a pureblood family, arguably the most influential and notorious one, the Blacks, who mostly have dark hair and eyes, and yet her physical appearance directly contrast that. There's also the matter of her namesake. She's the only Black to be named after a flower instead of a galaxy or a star. We aren't really given any explanation why she's the only one who's different. Even Sirius, who fought and died for the side of the Light, is named after the brightest star in the sky. Even Andromeda. It's been said that this is actually meant to be a parallel of some sort to Lily Evans. Narcissa and Lily are both named after flowers, even Petunia (Lily's sister). And I know there's this thing where it's a tie up to how Harry was ultimately saved by a mother's love: Harry lived at the beginning because of his mother's love, and Harry lives once again at the end of the books because Narcissa, a mother who wanted to save her own son, saved him.
If you read that scene in the books where Harry is saved by Narcissa, the whole scene is actually... pretty soft? There's that sort of disarming softness about Narcissa in that moment, where Harry expected to be callously dragged and prodded for a heartbeat. Instead, he gets a surprisingly gentle touch, a curtain of long blonde hair shielding him from the darkness, and the kind of tenderness he wouldn't expect from his enemies, "Is Draco alive?"
It's almost like Narcissa's appearance is something of a "tell". With Andromeda, she's described to have kind eyes, open, unguarded. She inherited her family's dark eyes and dark hair, and she even looks like Bellatrix's twin. I suppose we could say, Andromeda wants to fight that in any way she can by being openly kind. Narcissa is quite literally the opposite--guarded eyes, stoic expressions, cool and calculated emotions. We're veering into this fine line between fanon and canon in terms of their characterization (but only due to lack of canon materials) but personally, I think Narcissa having blonde hair and blue eyes is somewhat more fitting for her character. Again, this line:
"Narcissa threw back her hood. She was so pale she seemed to shine in the darkness... long blonde hair streaming down her back."
It's like that one glaringly obvious hint that everyone overlooks simply because... because it's the most obvious one. "Me! I'm different! I'm the last person you'd expect, but it really is me!"
Tumblr media
Anyway. I've rambled on long enough. Hope this clears up some of that confusion, anon. Hoping it didn't ADD even more confusion... 😂 At the end of the day, this is just me speculating, gushing, and being One Big Fool™. So.
But either way, blonde hair, dark hair, mix of both, I adore her. Pretty much.

"You want to know what death is? I'll tell you. Death is the loss of life. Despite everything doctors like me attempt... a patient's life can still fall through our fingers. You think death lies in the apex of science? Anyone with such little regard for life will die by my hand."

Character Analysis: Yosano Akiko
Age: 25 || Ability: Thou Shalt Not Die
BSD CHAPTER CHAPTER 65-66 SPOILERS
table of contents:
1. Author counterpart.
2. Yosano's history.
3. 'Angel of Death' defined.
4. Yosano and Atsushi.
YOSANO BRAINROT!*(#&!*@#($
1. Author counterpart.
Having been given the “Sho Ho” at birth, Yosano Akiko’s counterpart—the real-life author—was known for her zealous take on both feminism and pacifism.
Side note: Once again, to avoid confusion, I will use the name Sho Ho in reference to the real-life author, and Yosano in reference to the BSD character.
Sho Ho's writings were pretty much out-of-the-ordinary in her time, and despite being suppressed by the social norms of gender hierarchy, she sought to reform society’s view on the cultural perspectives of women and their sexuality (She expressed her love for a woman in one of her poems, but many still argued on whether she identified herself as queer or not.)
"Thou Shalt Not Die," Yosano's ability, is actually named after one of Sho Ho's most famous, controversial poems. She wrote it for her brother, who was a soldier in the war between Russia and Japan (1904-1905). In her poem, she expressed her general distaste for war and how her brother was a part of it.
O my young brother, I cry for you Don't you understand you must not die! You who were born the last of all Command a special store of parents' love
Would parents place a blade in children's hands
Teaching them to murder other men Teaching them to kill and then to die? Have you so learned and grown to twenty-four?
- excerpt from Sho Ho's poem, "Kimi Shinitamou Koto Nakare"
Her words were blunt enough to inflict guilt on her brother's conscience, as she wasn't afraid to express her disapproval over how her brother took part in the typical violent bloodshed and manslaughter of war. Such opinions perturbed the authorities, and her work was eventually banned from the public for a period of time. Later on, it was used as an anti-war statement.
2. Yosano's history.
Now, as for the character in BSD, Yosano is seen to be generally strong-willed, and later on, we see that she is terrifyingly compassionately ambitious in the way she treats her patients. She treasured life itself, and hated the thought of losing a patient.
Yosano had developed her relations with Mori Ougai back in the Great War, when she was just 11 years old. Her ability was a great benefactor in saving lives. Realistically speaking, she was used for her ability to heal injured soldiers and diminish the effect of any casualty acquired.
Initially, she wasn't aware of this, until one of her close friends pointed it out by subtly accusing Mori of manipulating her to participate in the War under the close-to false pretence of 'saving lives.'
Tumblr media
As much as her ability did save lives, it also forced soldiers to return to the frontlines and suffer injuries over and over again. The soldiers were never given the opportunity to return to their families because of her ability. This obliged them to carry on in the war without any excuse, inserting them into a vicious cycle they had no escape out of.
Metaphorically speaking, Yosano's hatred for Mori sort of mirrors Sho Ho's disdain for war and fighting, don't you think? The way Kafka materialised Yosano's past was quite interesting because he used chapters 65 and 66 to explain Yosano's dislike for Mori, reflecting how Sho Ho used her poem to explain why she condemned the idea of war and how her brother was part of it.
Before the effect of her ability was fully understood, however, every soldier praised and thanked her for what an angel she was. One of the soldiers she had befriended and gotten close to even kept a tally of the number of times she had saved him. He was the one who gifted her the butterfly hairpin she wore all the time.
The weight of the truth that her ability was a curse rather than a blessing fully dawned on her when her soldier friend ultimately committed suicide, because the fact of being indefinitely trapped in the throes of war agonised him until his spirit gave out. This drove Yosano to loathe her ability, or rather, how it was used.
Tumblr media
In the time she participated in the War, Yosano was given the alias 'angel of death' due to the control she retained over the battlefield, but I thought that perhaps Kafka had a reason behind giving her this title, so I did my research.
3. 'Angel of Death' defined.
Side note: I wouldn't want to disrespect any culture or religion, so if my citations are inaccurate and/or disrespectful, do feel free to correct me/let me know! I did research out of pure curiosity, and I don't intend to twist the significance of any of the interpretations.
I had to grow up learning about the basics of religious stuff, so it's kind of nice to study something out of the box, and very much against my father's rigid belief system :D
ARCHANGEL ARIEL
(archangel: an angel of higher rank)
I came across the few characteristics of angels/goddesses and their roles, and the one which really caught my attention was the female archangel, Ariel, the angel of nature.
Tumblr media
[ source ]
In Hebrew, the name Ariel means 'altar' or 'lioness of God,' and her role is to heal. In addition to that, she is also recognised as a helper to another one of the seven main archangels, Raphael, whose role is to provide physical and emotional healing, too.
She is the protecter of the environment and the animals therein, and is bestowed with the duty to oversee the order of heavenly bodies as well as earth's natural resources. She assures the sustenance of food, water, shelter, and supplies of human beings, much like how a nurse is to a patient I suppose.
In relation to Yosano, I think this part is pretty self-explanatory, or perhaps this is blown out of proportion HA, so take this as a suggestion rather than a fact, because I'd like to believe that Kafka had a reason for giving Yosano a title as such.
In the past, I've come across the angel of death only to perceive it as a female grim reaper of some sort, so it was pretty cool to find that the word 'angel' and 'death' made up a title of a someone like Ariel, one of the purest forms of humility and compassion.
GREEK GODDESS PANAKEIA
For my beloved (wannabe/or not) students of Greek mythology (much like myself, let's make a cult!), you've probably heard of Panakeia, the goddess of healing. Medicine finds most of its vital significance in Greek history, and in its mythology, Panakeia is actually known for her ability to heal any kind of sickness.
Tumblr media
[ source ]
Her name means 'panacea,' which is actually defined as a remedy for all diseases. Terminal diseases and injuries lead to death, right? This would bring us back to Yosano's ability to nullify any injury's effects on a person, keeping them from death itself.
Now, we know that in order for Yosano's ability to work, her patient, or victim, has to be in a near-death condition in order for her treatment to take effect. This can't exactly fit into the description of resurrection, but it can be described as some sort of rebirth.
GREEK GODDESS PERSEPHONE
So another goddess which reminds me of Sho Ho/Yosano, is Persephone, the goddess of spring and rebirth. Before Hades, the god of the underworld, fell in love with Persephone to take her to live with him, Persephone lived a happy life.
Hades, with his nature of darkness and the like, was captivated by how pure Persephone was, and stole her away from her former life to live in an environment which differed sharply from her natural aura of purity.
Tumblr media
[ source ]
Remember when Yosano's friend left a note behind before he killed himself? The note said nothing except for, "You are too righteous." Take that as you will, but figuratively speaking, you could say Mori takes the role of Hades in the story, while Yosano can be portrayed as Persephone.
Sho Ho can also be a parallel of Persephone, in that she had to adapt to the realities of war and disharmony, while Persephone had to adapt to the raw darkness of the underworld with Hades.
Sho Ho stood against society's norms and decided to reform it, making her one of the most well-known feministic pacifist in history, while Persephone managed to escape from the underworld to return to her former position, earning the title the 'Bringer of Life,' or the 'Destroyer of Death.'
Furthermore, the way Sho Ho's anti-war poem took its effect later on, reflects the way Persephone restored balance in the world after returning from the underworld.
4. Yosano and Atsushi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
chapter 66; Yosano: "It's my fault that those close to me died... Is there some place where it's okay for me to live?"
chapter 8; Atsushi: "If I have any chance of saving them all, of returning them home safely, would that mean it's okay for me to keep on living?"
I couldn't help but think of Dazai and Atsushi back when I was reading through these panels. Ranpo (my beloved), along with Fukuzawa, accepted Yosano as she was, despite how her ability was a cause of despair and misfortune.
Ranpo looked past her mistakes and the entirety of how dark her past was to welcome her into the Armed Detective Agency. Dazai, on the other hand, knew who Atsushi was and what his ability had made him do before anyone else, and still decided to provide a safe place for Atsushi to find his sense of belonging, journeying with him as he learned to use his ability properly.
For more info about Dazai and Atsushi's dynamic, you can check out the analysis I did for Dazai :D
Atsushi desired to save people to prove his right to live, while Yosano made her wish to achieve the recovery of all her patients the reason for her existence.
Others would prefer to accuse both Yosano and Atsushi of having a saviour complex, but the reason why they pursued to save people with utmost dedication, stems from the nature of what their past was like. You know the saying 'from broken to beautiful?' Yeah, it's something like that.
The way their pasts were written out gave them a desire to change, which was, I daresay, initiated by the people who took them in: Ranpo and Dazai. Their abilities were demonised because of how they were used, but once they broke from their abilities' effect over their lives, they honed their skills to control them for the right cause instead.
In a less cynical point of view, I believe both Yosano and Atsushi stood for what was right, and wanted nothing but to achieve peace and harmony in whatever way they could, even if it meant risking their own lives to save others.
Tumblr media
So yeah, that's it for my rants today. Thank you for reading, and if you have anything to add, go ahead! I'm open to discussions ;)

I'm still reeling from everything in that episode but let's talk about Marisa and the patriarchy
This episode was sooo good.
But this turned out a lot longer than I thought it would. I'm on mobile so I can't put it under a cut. Sorry.
It should come as no surprise but we love and support Marisa Coulter in this house. (and yes I am very well aware that she is an awful person and mother but we can still love her, it's called the duality of the gays)
And god did this episode really hit home in so many ways about how women are treated in relation to men. As well as building even more into Marisa's own trauma that was hinted at in her interrogation of Lee.
Like yeah, even if our world isn't as outwardly patriarchal as Lyra and Marisa's it still kinda is.
Marisa is seen by the magisterium as a conniving and manipulative woman (which to be fair is kinda accurate but is still heavily gender coded). She's a tool that can be used to get what they want from people. But they also don't treat her as someone to take seriously. Because she's a woman. She's incredibly intelligent (which we already knew but this episode really drove home) and if she was a man she would have been held in the same esteem as Asriel or the Scholars at Jordan college but she's not allowed to have that option because she's a woman. And it's also interesting that in the books when Lyra first meets Mrs Coulter she compares her to Hannah Relf, the only female scholar that she knows, and notes how glamorous and beautiful Mrs Coulter is in comparison. Hannah, in being seen as dowdy, can be almost ignored by the magisterium as being a peculiarity among women and be allowed to be a scholar (although she's still treated with suspicion and seen as being potentially dangerous because she's a woman) whereas because Marisa is beautiful she's not allowed to exist outside of the roles the Magisterium gives women.
And it goes further. Because Marisa is beautiful and glamorous every single man she interacts with has a sense of entitlement that she should be subordinate to him and accept his attraction towards her. Just look at the way that Macphail and Boreal both constantly leer at her in every interaction. They're both attracted to her and just assume that any flirting they attempt would be reciprocated.
And her relationship with Asriel. Like the whole thing. She thought she had someone who saw her as an equal when they fell in love and maybe she did. He definitely recognised her intelligence. But when the whole affair became public and Asriel was the one to kill Mr Coulter he still got to decide what happened to Lyra (like he did from her birth). And yeah he got banished for a bit but it really didn't seem to have a long lasting effect on his reputation. He was still able to get funding for all of his research. Whereas Marisa was ostracised (as Ma Costa briefly mentions) and most likely had to claw her way back up into society through her ability to manipulate and control the men around her through her sexuality (which I'm not going to think about too much cause it'll make me sad) and she's still seen as the woman who had an affair and a child out of wedlock. A child that she's still most likely would not be allowed to raise as her own without consequences. She's not given even a fraction of the respect that men in her position would be.
Add all of this to what we know about her childhood being an abusive one. (there's also hints in the book that Mr Coulter was probably abusive as well) and it makes her desperation and self hatred (taken out on the golden monkey, her literal soul) make sense.
So taking all of this into consideration, imagine how coming into our world and meeting Mary would make her feel. I've said before about how proud Marisa is that Lyra can't be caged by the Magisterium and I think her seeing her break all these roles and restrictions by traveling through worlds is so powerful to her. But Lyra is special.
Mary is by all appearances a normal woman. But she has everything Marisa doesn't. She has the ability to be recognised for her intelligence, to share her work under her own name. To conduct her own research without having to bow down and bend it to the will of those in power. She can do all of this under her own name, Marisa has to wear the badge of Coulter as a shield or allow a man to put his name on her work.
I also think a key moment that drove this difference, this freedom that Marisa so craves but can't have, between her and Mary wasnt when Mary asked her if she'd published anything but how they introduced themselves. In the last episode Marisa makes a point to correct the waiter that she's MRS not MISS because in their world being a married woman is a marker of respect, but when she meets Mary and assumes she's also a MRS but instead is corrected that Mary is a DR, she realises how little control she actually has.
She went into our world thinking she was manipulating Boreal by letting him think she would reciprocate his advances and that gave her control and power, but then finds out she could have power and control without subjecting herself to the whims of men.
And there's just something so heartbreaking about that. That all she wants is control. And she can't have that because of the magisterium. But Lyra, her daughter who she does love even if she doesn't know how to do so in the way a mother should, could have that control and freedom but only if she completely lets her go. And Marisa can't bring herself to let go of the child that's physical tangible proof that for a brief moment she existed outside of the control of the men around her.
There's something really tragic about Marisa Coulter and thinking about her hurts. When I first read these books as a child I sympathised with her without fully understanding why. But now as an adult I can see so many parallels in Marisa's life and the way women in general get treated. I can understand her actions and motivations (even though I don't agree with all of them) and it hurts.
I just want Marisa to be happy without having to subject herself to the control of men. And yet that feels like too much to ask.
