⋆˚ఎ ☆ ໒˚⋆ ⋆˚ఎ ☆ ໒˚⋆ ⋆˚ఎ ☆ ໒˚⋆ ⋆˚ఎ ☆ ໒˚⋆ ⋆˚ఎ ☆ ໒˚⋆ ⋆˚ఎ
You hadn’t meant to lie.
You’d went into the slightly shady neighborhood in search of a job, preferably one that let you play piano- your passion- and still had a decent amount of pay so you would be able to afford that apartment you got recently.
It’s a small town though, and no one really has any need for music as they own record players and other forms of listening devices. No one cares about classical music anymore.
Maybe you should have listened when your father told you music would never be a good career.
So you gave up hope, walking downtown to the store to get a simple and cheap frozen dinner that you could watch while sulking in front of the tv. Being an adult is hard, and you often find yourself wondering what you would do if you had just been given one chance to go back in time and not rush growing up.
You heard the familiar and peaceful sound of piano, and just like anytime you hear it, you freeze in the middle of the sidewalk to simply listen. There’s a small store next to all the tall and beautiful ones, one that probably gets lost a lot in the sight of all the other, more important buildings. A young woman is sitting inside near the front, visible through the big glass window that you silently watch her through. Her skilled fingers dance across the keyboard, creating an aura in the world that has you stuck in a magical trance.
The song slowly goes quieter, and you watch her take a deep sigh before turning her head to look out the window- as if knowing you were there. You panic, blushing in embarrassment before you pretend to read the signs taped to the door.
A bright smile graces your face as you actually begin to read them. A few of them just talk about upcoming concerts in town square, but one big one smack dab in the middle catches your eye;
Hiring!
Tutors, managers, cleaners
$16.45 a hour
It’s not a lot of money, but it’s enough and you’d get to do what you love while seemingly getting to hang out with a pretty girl. It’s a win, win, win. For you.
“Sorry. That sign is old. My friend was supposed to take it down.” Someone quietly speaks beside you, and you almost jump in fear when you see that the woman you had previously been looking at through the window is now standing right next to you, staring blankly before she tears the sign off the door. She’s even more pretty in person, from her long auburn hair to her piercing greens eyes that most people would fear as she stares at you silently though all you feel is nervous and giddy.
“Right…well….do you still have any openings?” You ask, placing your hands in your pockets as you rock back and forth on your heels. She watches with curious eyes, crossing her arms over her chest.
She answers quietly, a stark contrast to your happy mood, though she doesn't exactly seem upset. More like calm. “Yes. Lessons are 10 dollars for an hour and a half.”
You frown in confusion. Does she think you’re looking for a teacher? You go to tell her you’re looking to be a teacher, but your eyes fall on the little picture on the door that has a photo of her next to a few others of other people. Under her’s is the title; “owner and teacher”
“Would you be my teacher?” The words fall out of your mouth before you can stop them, so you purse your lips to stop yourself from saying anything else.
The girl’s lips turn upwards in the beginning of a smile. “Yes. I would.”
You practically grin, and it’s like you don’t even remember the several years of college you went through to get a career in music as you say, “Then I’d like to take lessons from you. I like piano. I want to learn how to play.”
She does smile now, nodding as she opens the door which makes the bell above it ring. “That’s great. Follow me and we’ll get you signed up.” You do follow her inside, taking in the beauty of the hidden shop. There are pianos and other instruments everywhere, ones that look worn out yet still pretty. Open songbook’s litter every open space and she gets to the front desk before digging through a pile of them for the forms you need to sign.
After signing way to many forms and paying a small fee, you shake her hand with the one that isn’t cramping.
“Thank you for choosing Scarlett's Melodies. I’m Wanda Maximoff. I own the shop and tutor most of the students.” You smile, squeezing her hand before you awkwardly place your hand in your pocket and introduce yourself.
Wanda. A pretty name for a pretty girl.
You obviously don’t say that though. Anxiety exists yall.
Instead you leave with a new found pep in your step.
That is until you remember that you just spent a ton of money and don’t even have a job. Wow. What the fuck is Wanda Maximoff doing to you?
— – — – — – — – —
After that, you have to get a job, so you get one at the nice restaurant in town that your friend works at. You spend most of your day serving customers, taking orders, and cleaning, and the only reason you continue to do it is that every other day, you just have to think about the fact that once work is over, you get to go see the beautiful piano teacher.
It’s not hard to play down your skill, but it is a little bit funny every time you slip up and tell her you already know something and then have to make the excuse that you’re doing some studying on your own time as well.
Wanda has a sweet personality, though she is a bit cold and standoffish sometimes. You learn a lot about her over the past few weeks though, like her late brother Pietro, her friends Natasha and Clint who are also workers at the store, and how she came to love music so much as to start up her own store for it.
“You’re late.” She says when you run in six minutes past the time you’re supposed to be there, but her tone is light and teasing as she scans through some notes on her sheet music. She lets you take them home sometimes to study them, but you mostly just study her pretty handwriting and the little doodles she leaves for you to find.
You chuckle, taking off your coat and hanging it up next to her leather jacket near the door. The place is cozy and if not for the workers constantly running in and out, you’d say it feels more like a home than a store.
“Sorry. I was at work.” She nods as you speak, handing you a book she made more notes in before pointing over to a piano set up against a wall. It’s nicely toned and made of a beautiful wood, and once she learned it was probably your favorite, she “teaches” you at that one every single lesson.
You sit on the bench, trying your hardest not to blush when she rubs her hand on your back before sitting closely next to you. It’s one of your favorite parts of the lessons- when she sits close enough that you can smell her perfume. Vanilla with a hint of sage, and it’s quickly become one of your favorite scents.
“We’re gonna work on something a bit harder today alright? I think you can do it, but the notes are in a slightly weird pattern and may be hard to remember.” Wanda says, flipping to a page in the book before setting it up on the music rack.
It’s one of your favorites and quite easy to play after years of practicing, but you don’t tell her that.
By the end of the almost two hour lesson, you have pretended to learn the first part of the song, purposefully messing it up every once in a while so you don’t expose yourself.
You’re starting to feel a bit guilty about the lying, but then she smiles proudly and showers you in compliments and you forget all about it.
Wanda walks you to the door, leaning on the wall as you put on your coat and grab your stuff. You’re tired, but that feeling doesn’t even begin to compare to the one that comes when she holds your hand and smiles towards you.
“There’s a small event in town this weekend.” She starts, pointing towards the sign up on her big bulletin board. “A few people playing pieces, some nice food. I think you should join. You’re one of my most advanced students.”
You grin, hesitantly nodding. “I’d love to. That sounds like so much fun.”
The redhead nods as well, smiling slightly as she writes your name down on the sign up sheet. You’ll play after a few other students and teachers, and you must tell her what piece you want to play by tomorrow so you can spend the next few lessons practicing it.
With that you say your goodbyes, lingering in a hug with the Maximoff girl before you finally leave, walking home with a love sick smile on your face. Little did you know, the same one is gracing Wanda’s face as she closes up the shop and makes her way home.
— – — – — – — – —
When the day of the concert comes around, you’re nervous.
You don’t know why. You could play this piece in your sleep, but for some reason, the same nerves that were with you during your first performance as a child are now fluttering around in your stomach as you sit on a piano bench in the town square.
Wanda is talking with some of the other students, and you try and distract yourself by looking at her with adoration in your eyes, but it all comes back at a higher level when she notices you and winks your way.
She’s so pretty, and you fight the urge to slam your head on the instrument as she finishes up her conversation and begins walking towards you.
“Hey hon. How you feeling?” Wanda stands behind you, rubbing your shoulders reassuringly as she reads over the notes on your sheet music. You shrug, blushing brightly at her touch as you pretend to be focusing on smoothing out your shirt of non-existent wrinkles.
“I’m okay. Kinda nervous.” You say, and the blush only deepens when she hums in understanding and places a kiss on the top of your head.
“Don’t be. You’re going to be great.” Her words make you grin, and you lean your head back to rest on her stomach as she gently runs her fingers through your hair. Someone calls her name, so she gently caresses your face before patting your back and walking away.
Oh the things that Wanda Maximoff does to you.
While you’re waiting for your turn on stage, you get bored, so you sit back on the bench and begin to quickly play through one of the hardest songs you know. It took forever to learn and you still mess up every once and a while, but it still would sound beautiful to anyone and by the end of it, you do hear someone slightly chuckle in shock.
It isn't a happy laugh or happy shock though. That much you can tell.
“I didn’t teach you that.” A slightly bitter tone speaks, and you slowly turn around to come face to face with Wanda, fists clenched at her sides and a curious but slightly annoyed expression on her face.
You want to continue to lie, to tell her you’ve been working hard and her lessons are paying off, but no one who’s only been playing for a few months would be able to play that and she obviously knows the truth now.
“You wasted my time.” She says coldly, crossing her arms over her chest. She’s no longer the bubbly girl you’ve come to have the pleasure of knowing, instead going back to the closed off woman you first met. It’s all your fault.
You look down in shame, letting the bouquet rest by your side. “I’m so sorry Wanda.”
Wanda scoffs, glaring at you before she storms out of the room. She’s pissed, but a warm feeling settles in her chest at the knowledge you went through all of this to hang out with her, even with the thought that you don’t have a chance with her. You still wasted her time though, and you lied to her for weeks, almost months. How can she trust that you truly aren’t just some psycho?
You stay in the middle of town square, tears forming in your eyes as more and more people gather to listen to the other pianists. You’re falling in love with Wanda Maximoff, and up until this point, it’s only ever been clear and sunny skies. What are you supposed to do now that your first cloud has appeared?
— – — – — – — – —
After that, you stop going to your lessons.
Wanda finds herself missing you every time 6 o’clock comes around and you don’t come sprinting into the shop with your work uniform still on, rambling about something a stupid customer did like you’ve known Wanda forever. It feels like that, that’s for sure.
You spend every day in an endless cycle. Get up, go to work, walk the long way so you don’t risk running into Wanda outside of her music store, work a nine hour shift, and return to your quiet apartment where you sit in silence and mourn for someone that still lives.
Maybe you should adopt a dog.
One especially rough day, you wake up late, your alarm clock having turned off during a storm last night and reset itself all while you were asleep. Because of this, you wake up with five minutes to get ready and even less time to sprint to work, so you can’t take the long way like you usually do.
It’s lightly sprinkinly outside, so you don’t bother taking a jacket in the midst of chaos. That was clearly the wrong decision, as only a few minutes into your walk there, it starts absolutely pouring, and just like that, your uniform is soaked and you’re shivering. You don’t have any time to go back though, so you fight on, staying right next to the buildings for a bit of protection and you don’t even notice the person carefully watching you as you fastly walk down the sidewalk.
“Hey!” Someone calls out, grabbing your wrist and pulling you into a familiar building. It’s calm and quiet music is playing somewhere, but all you can focus on is that Wanda is standing in front of you, holding out a dry towel for you to grab.
You hesitate, grabbing it and holding it closely around your body in hopes of stopping the cold feeling in your bones. It’s much warmer in here and the only rain is tapping against the window from outside, but Wanda is here and she looks at you with a type of distaste you’ve never seen before.
“I need to get to work. I’m late.” You mumble eventually after a few minutes of silence, but she just puts her hands on your shoulders and rubs them to bring you more warmth as she replies calmly, “No. I don’t want you to catch a cold.”
You go to argue, but she simply shakes her head and sits down at your piano on the other end of the room. She begins to play a simple but calm song, and she watches in the corner of her eye as you sink down on the couch next to the fireplace and slowly close your eyes. You’re still awake though, that much she can tell by the way your fingers tap along to the pattern of the music.
Finally she slowly stops the song, letting her hands fall to rest on her thighs as she stares at the keyboard with her eyebrows furrowed.
“Why would you lie to me?”
You open your eyes, watching with a guilty but sincere look as she chews on her lower lip and gently presses a few of the keys. “I’m truly sorry Wanda. I figured if we spent that time together, I would be able to learn more about you…in hopes of eventually asking you out. It was stupid, and wrong, and I’m sorry.”
She sighs, closing the keyboard cover and turning to face you. “If you had asked, I would have said yes.”
Your eyes widen in shock. Is she messing with you?
Wanda continues, “If you had just told me all of that when we first met, we could have gone out and gotten dinner or- or lunch or on a picnic like normal people.” You nod along, silently fidgeting with the bottom of your shirt. “So go ahead.”
You’re silent for a second, looking around as if wondering if she’s talking to you to which she giggles and nods. That laugh could fix all your issues.
“Wanda Maximoff, I’d really like to get to know you. The right way this time. Will you go out with me?” You ask nervously after clearing your throat and sitting up in your seat.
Wanda smirks, rubbing her chin as if in deep thought. “I don’t know…”
You laugh a bit when she does, though you’re too busy smiling brightly as she nods. “I’d love to go out with you. No lying to me this time though. And you have to teach me that song you were playing at the recital.”
“No way. A magician never reveals their secrets.” You tease, sitting next to her on the bench as she laces your hands together and says with her own smile, “Oh really? So I just agreed to a date for nothing? You’re mean.”
All is fair in love and music though.

Deepest thanks to the wonderful @sacredjake for beta reading and for inspiring and encouraging me to pick up writing and post this. Please do yourself a favor and read her works; they're awesome beyond words. Enjoy!!
🎧: songs that pair nice with this piece: Lost at Sea by Lana Del Rey and Rob Grant; Mariners apartment complex by Lana Del Rey (can you tell I'm bad at titles now?)
----------------------------------------------
There’s just something about the air in the stadium before the concert; it feels like with every inhale, it immediately turns into adrenaline. With its graininess accentuated, one can almost sense the atoms buzzing in the air, like a shoal of sardines forming a bait ball, enclosing him, a cyclone where he is the eye. Is this what Josh means when he writes “carbon dancing through time” ?
His mind is racing a million miles a second; it’s like hoping onto a car with broken brakes, he’s bound to hit something in the hazardous terrain——
Knock knock. “Jake?”
As if someone pulled the switch, he is snapped back to reality. He immediately recognizes the voice of his lover. The sweetest sound in the world. His shoulder visibly relaxes, the corner of his mouth turning up, and his heart feels tender. He has always appreciated this—forever so considerate and thoughtful, always respecting his privacy even though they have already been together for so long.
“Come in!”
As expected, his lover’s face came into view, the familiar smile.
“I got you the salad you wanted!” You said, raising the white plastic bags in your hands.
You can tell he is anxious the moment you push open the door. Years of a committed relationship must have formed some kind of telepath between you two. You can almost sense it in the air. Is it a thing though? Like the service dogs that can smell it when their owner’s heart is beating too fast. Well, you know someone’s heart is certainly racing now.
You can’t quite figure out where his anxiety is coming from. They boys are at the middle leg of this tour. Is it from the traveling? Or maybe it has to do with his string snapping during soundcheck earlier? Or it could just be his brain playing tricks on him. And you respect that, even amazed or amused because you know it’s from the very same place where all the amazing melodies and witty remarks are born.
You spotted the glass on the vanity. Amber liquid barely covering its bottom, corresponding to the proportionate empty space in the newly-opened bottle of whiskey right next to it. You know Jake is never one to get plastered before going on stage. The alcohol is just a pacifier for his nerves. You follow his gaze to the white roses sitting in the vase. He’s remained quiet all this time, not even trying to hide his feelings, only giving you a smile through his reflection in the mirror. The comfortable silence hangs mellowly like willow branches, a mute radiation of his trust and vulnerability.
You set the bag aside and squat down in front of him, thumb brushing the back of his hand. You know better than to ask questions like “are you okay”. You know that right now your physical presence is already a comfort for him. You’d rather let him take the lead for the rest.
Jake tilts up your chin—a silent cue for kisses. You happily oblige, feeling his lips forming a smile upon contact with yours. He releases a contented sigh, pulling back after a moment. “I’ve missed you.”
“Yeah? You’ve got me now.” Now sitting across his lap, your hand rests gently on his cheek. Jake immediately leans into your touch like a cat, turning his head and pressing kisses into your palm.
“They already double-checked it. I’ll ask them to pay extra attention before the show starts, just to make sure.” You said, tucking a strand of hair behind his ear, revealing the little hoop dangling.
Jake hums, knowing you are referring to the snapped string earlier. Stupid mistake. His throat feels dry, “I’m sorry, I don’t know why I——”
“Shh,” you give him a peck on the lips, “none of that. You don’t have to explain anything. Those feelings are valid. And they are temporary.”
Then a brilliant idea strikes you.
“We’ll take a walk, alright?”
“Here?” He cocks his head in slight confusion.
He immediately recognizes that you are giving him a taste of his own medicine. Well, in a good way. He knows you are talking about one of those “mental health walks” that he proposes when you are engulfed by the noises inside your head. But the backstage is not street gardens or some hiking trials in a park, how will that work?
“Yeah, you have time. Right?”
There’s indeed at least a good half an hour before the last sound check. He can’t argue with you. By the way, when were he ever able to say no to your invitations? This little genius mind of his lovers, constantly conjuring up the most amusing and endearing words and ideas like the hat of a magician. With a resigned smile, he caves in, placing his hands in yours.
“Come on, up you get, you lazy butt.” You step back and pull on his arm.
“Hey, you love this butt!” He protests in feigned grievance.
“Yup, can’t deny it’s a nice one.” You jokingly smack his ass as you follow him out of the dressing room, feeling happier hearing his banter, seeing him slowly getting back to himself. He’ll get there, you will make sure of it.
The corridors are generally quiet around this time, allowing the artists to rest before the real frenzy starts. Occasionally, stage crews pass by, rolling equipments boxes down the hall. You two swiftly move out of their way, hand in hand, strolling as if window shopping in the mall. You are entertaining Jake with a funny little incident you saw on your way to buy him food.
“You should’ve seen it, really,” you snort out a laugh recalling the scene, “that poor lady is struggling so hard and the shopping cart is just running away from her, loaded with two cases of Guinness!”
Jake is laughing with you, slightly shaking his head in disbelief. You turn to admire his profile, the apple of his cheek rising, the wrinkle to his nose deepening, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down. There’s nothing you love more than seeing Jake smile and laugh, it never fails to create that fizzy feeling in your heart, like a bubble approaching the surface of a cream soda.
Having jumped out of your storytelling, your attention diverts back to the feeling of Jake’s arm snaking around your waist. Now his hands are sliding up your sides, from the small of your back to the sweet spot on your flank.
He turns to look at you. Upon meeting his gaze, you immediately pick up the implicit plea. His caramel eyes full of admiration, the edge of his iris grows fuzzy. His eyelashes flutter as his gaze falls to your lips.
You cover the distance between you with a kiss. This one is different from the one in the dressing room. The tip of his tongue tickles your bottom lip with small licks before him pulls back a bit and mutters under his breath, “Want you, want to be close to you.”
Once again, you are more than willing to indulge.
It’s just so convenient that you happened to be near the corner where a pilaster protrudes enough to hide you from the passersby. As your back hits the wall, your fingers are already tangled in Jake’s hair, holding him close. You are circled by him, his freshly applied cologne lingers, now well adapted to his skin, bergamot wrapping the hidden notes of pepper and cedar. Jake kisses along your jawline and traces downwards, creating a dotted line of kisses across your breasts and hovering over your navel. His hands tugging on the waist of your pants. As he unzips it smoothly, he dives back in with more kisses, nibbling on the material of your underwear.
“No,” you mumble, tugging on his elbow motioning him to stand up, “I want you in me.” You loved it when he goes down on you, but not now. Now you need it to be about him, you know he needs it too.
There is a halt in his movement, suddenly his eyes a shade darker.
“Yes, let it out, Jake.” You hold your forehead against his, making sure he hears every word certain and clear. Whatever it is, a much-needed release, a claim of territory, an outlet of his bundled nerves. “Use me. Fuck me.”
“You’re gonna be the death of me.” Jake sucks in a breath.
You smirk, tilting your head back against the wall and surrendering more of your body to his arms. Jake’s hands on your thighs cover the coolness of your skin as your pants pool around your ankles. His knuckles tracing your heat through the fabric, the ghostly touch making you squirm.
“Please, Jake.” You loop your arms around his neck, raising up a leg pressing it into the side of his waist.
“So wet for me already, angel.” With frantic eagerness, he takes out his length and pulls your underwear aside. Your slickness draws his hard cock inside as he bottoms out in one firm and steady thrust. Jake was looking down as he enters you, his eyebrows creased in concentration, eyelashes throwing shadows under his eyes. He never fails to marvel at the way your bodies connect, it catches him in awe every time no matter how many times you have fucked, just as you are exploring each other’s bodies for the first time. When his gaze meets yours again, it’s like moonlight spilling behind clouds. You are the only object of his vision.
“Yes!” You mouth silently as he starts moving, him picking up the pace almost instantly as if placed in a running wheel. Jake’s head nuzzles into the crook of your neck, hot breath radiating and him lapping up at whatever area of skin he comes in contact with. His arm goes under your knee and finds leverage on the wall, the other hand holding onto your pelvis, pinning you in place. The rough texture of the brick wall rubs against your back along each shudder, magnifying the titillation deep inside you.
You feel like with each thrust his insecurity and anxiety ebbs away like the snaky morning fog, replaced by his confidence and charming self: the one you know will work his magic on stage tonight just like ever, the one that will make the entire stadium shake and roar just by his fingers moving across six strings, the one that proves both to the world and to himself again and again that “it could be done”.
You can feel him swell and twitch against your walls, you squeeze you thighs and clench, knowing he’s getting close. The spasms of his cock tickling that particular spot to the point of no return, the ecstasy washing over you like a cascade. The whines and screams rolling and tumbling in your chest like a pot of boiling water, threatening to jump out of your mouth. You roll your eyes back and swallow them down, releasing only one suppressed moan of “let go, baby” against Jake’s ear, and that is enough to send him over the edge.
With one jerk of his body, he cums hard. You can feel the additional thickness of his release almost dripping down your crotch. Jake’s whole weight falls towards you with the hunch of his shoulders. His chest presses firmly against your body, its rise and fall teasing your still hard nipples.
You hold his head against your chest as he comes down from the high, fingers brushing away the naughty strands of hair that have flown into the corner of his mouth and stuck to his cheek.
“As much as I would like to stay here forever, you really have to get going. They must be looking for their rockstar everywhere.” You chuckle while shimmying out of your rumpled underwear, using it to clean up.
“Damn.” Jake leans back against the wall as he watches you, still on cloud nine and short of words. For a moment, all he can do is look at you.
“Stop staring.” You nudge him, unable to stop blushing facing his caramel eyes filled with unadulterated adoration. You bet if you could reach into them, you would find a handful of stars. Plus, Jake looks exceptionally beautiful post-fuck, the upturn at the corners of his mouth accentuated the curve of his cupid’s bow. The smug smirk is counterbalanced by the rosy blush on his cheekbones, a tell-tale sign of his satiated desire. Good. That’s what you’d expected and what you’d like to see.
Jake cups your face in both of his hands as he leans in for a kiss. This time, almost childish, his pouted lips pepper all over, the bilabial “mwah” is especially pronounced, causing you to giggle again.
“Quite the walk, huh?” You insinuate.
“Well, now I prefer to call it the ‘mental health fuck’,” Jake slowly straightens his back, resembling a cat stretching after a content nap. “Catch you on the flip side, my love.”
He was already a couple of strides away when he rushes back to kiss you again, catching you in surprise. Aggressive and fervent in his actions, but oh so gentle when his mouth meets yours. This is the type of kiss where he takes the lead, and you are completely at his mercy. The tip of his nose brushes against yours, and his teeth softly bite your lower lip. It’s a kiss that steals your breath and your heartbeat away for tits entirety . “You know you are my lighthouse, yeah?” He stares right into your eyes, his voice low and husky. “ You always guide me back when I’m lost at sea. My Leucothea, my Lady of Luck.”
You feel a lump in your throat, and every word goes straight to your heart. The feelings there are so overwhelming that they rise and swell like tidal waves. It;s so much love that it makes you want to cry.
“Gosh, Jake, such the poet.” That all you manage to say.
“Because you’re my muse, my angel,” Jake smiles again as he steps back one last time. “And now it’s time for me to set sail again, yeah?”
“Aye aye,” you blow him a kiss, “Fair Winds, Captain.”
You watch as he leaves. The Starcatcher symbol on his back standing tall and proud. The crystal embellishments on his jacket scintillate, jet crystals and glass beads shimmers, reflecting the lights like a thousand stars falling onto his shoulders. He is the warrior that breaks their fall, wearing them proud as a crystal armour. You watch as he marches forward, carrying on his shoulders the weight of dreams. Your dearest rocker, the bravest captain.
For Jake, the atoms are still buzzing, but now he can feel them moving rhythmically, like the joyful wings of a hummingbird or the secret dance of bees. They delivering a yet undecipherable but nonetheless auspicious message. Soon he will be going on stage, carrying a heart full of love from his lover, so he can give all his love to his fans out there. And he knows if he looks, he will find you among the crowd, a cluster of flame, a powerhouse of love.

When your brother mentioned that he wanted to go to a concert, you weren't sure what to expect, but you certainly did not expect to pull up to a dingy, poorly lit bar on the outskirts of town.
"Dustin," you said. "I think you have the wrong address."
"I most certainly don't," he replied with a wide smile. "Come on, let's go."
The inside was just about as welcoming as the parking lot. If your mother knew that you had brought her sweet, sweet baby boy into a dive bar, she would flatline on the spot. You mentally reminded yourself to make sure that Dustin pinky swore to never tell her about this little escapade later.
No one even seemed phased by the presence of Dustin which both relieved and frightened you. A scantily clad waitress brought over two glasses of water and asked if you wanted something stronger, but you declined. You had a feeling that she wouldn't even card you.
The lights dimmed and Dustin began to cheer. He was the only one.
You could see four dark figures walk out onto the stage and pick up their instruments. The beginning notes of a song that you faintly recognized played through the amplifiers and your brother cheered loudly, once again. The spotlight hit the stage and your jaw just about hit the floor.
You could not believe that your brother had brought you to a Corroded Coffin show. This was the exact reason why you didn't want Dustin hanging around Eddie; he had clearly been deceiving you from the jump and this was one-thousand percent a setup. It was as clear as day to you now. You had gone two years without once seeing Eddie in this small town, but the moment your brother got involved you started seeing him everywhere? Total setup.
However, you were still so goddamn impressed by the boy's ingenuity that you weren't mad at him one bit. You knew your brother was smart, you should have known that he would have figured out that you still had feelings for Eddie.
Speaking of impressed, you were enamored by Eddie's band and how good they had become over the years. You didn't recognize any of the other kids, but they were great, and probably the best metal cover band that you had ever heard of- not that you had heard of many in Hawkins. Out of all of them, however, it was Eddie who was the best. He had been playing the guitar since he could tie his shoes, pretty much, and it was obvious that he was extremely talented.
You couldn't tear your eyes away from his hands.
Your surroundings melted away as you became entranced by the way his fingers worked the neck of his guitar with such delicacy, such ease. His hair was damp with sweat as he bounced around the stage, that effortless charisma on full display for the small crowd. You remembered when he used to pull out his acoustic guitar and play for you; his onstage persona was the complete opposite of the softness of his bedroom.
After every song, Dustin screamed at the top of his lungs in support of his friends. You could see the shy smile on Eddie's lips every time and it made your heart melt.
When the set was over, Eddie hopped down off of the stage and immediately made his way over to the table.
"Dude!" Dustin yelled, giving Eddie a high-five. "That was so awesome!"
"Thanks, man," Eddie said before his eyes landed on you. "I'm glad you were able to make it."
"I lost a bet, remember?" You smiled at him and he laughed. "That was pretty impressive, I gotta hand it to you."
Eddie placed a hand on his chest sarcastically. "That is just about the best damn compliment you could give a guy, Ms. Henderson, considering how hard it is to impress you."
"Can we get something to eat?" Dustin interrupted. "I'm starving."
"You should have had something to eat before we left." You chided. "It's so late, I doubt anyone's open."
"There's a diner down the road that has the best burgers in all of Indiana," Eddie added. "I am also on the verge of starvation if you want to go. I know it's way past your bedtime, kid."
"Can we go, Y/N?" Dustin pleaded. "I'm not even tired!"
"You are spoiled, you know that?" You asked your brother.
He was already running out of the door to the car. Eddie grabbed your elbow before you could head out after him. It was a simple touch, but it made your cheeks flush; you hoped that he hadn't noticed with how dimly lit the bar was. You looked at his hand holding on to your arm and he immediately pulled away, shoving his hands in his pockets as if he was in trouble.
"I gotta stick around here long enough to take down the equipment," he said softly. "The diner is about five minutes from here, you just take a left out of the parking lot and keep going straight. It'll be on the right-hand side of the road. I'll meet you there in about twenty minutes, this won't take long."
"Sure," you replied. "I'll see you there."
"Can't wait," he smiled.
You had been fighting the butterflies in your stomach from the moment you had left The Hideout bar to the moment that Eddie's van pulled into the diner parking lot. It was a losing battle, but you weren't ready to give in to them. Not yet. You couldn't just give up the ghost after two years of being at war with your own feelings. You wouldn't let him get off that easy, no matter how hard he or your brother were trying.
He slid into the booth next to Dustin, across from you, and immediately the nonsense began. Eddie and your brother were like opposite sides of the same coin; they read the same books, played the same games, watched the same movies. They were both brilliant, yet immature, and didn't care about who stared at them or how big of a scene they caused.
In the two hours that you spent in that booth, you don't think you had laughed this hard since your dad was alive. Between Dustin's snappy comebacks and Eddie's jokes, your cheeks were in pain from smiling so much.
And it was comforting to see Dustin so happy.
"Getting tired?" You asked your brother as he let a yawn slip. "We should probably get going."
Dustin wanted to protest, but both you and Eddie reminded him that he had school in the morning. You were surprised when Eddie asked for one check and fished out a twenty-dollar bill to cover your meals. You had mentioned to him that it wasn't necessary for him to do that, but he waved a hand at you, muttering something about it being no big deal.
"Thanks for coming to see my band play," he said quietly as he walked you to your car. Dustin was already in the front seat waiting on you. "Despite the fact that you only came because you lost a bet. You don't have to remind me that you definitely would not have come if it weren't for that, I already know."
You smiled, "you know me so well."
"That I do, m'lady."
"Look, I know that you have school tomorrow," you began, not really knowing how to finish this particular sentence without feeling like you were choking on thin air. "But I'm not quite as tired as that guy," you pointed over your shoulder at Dustin who was practically already asleep in the car. "You want to maybe- I don't know- If you wanted to come over? You totally don't have to, I would definitely understand."
You were rambling.
"Y-yeah," Eddie blurted almost as soon as the question left your lips. He was a little confused, definitely shocked, but ready to go with you wherever you asked nonetheless.
"Okay, cool." You replied doing your best not to smile like a goddamn idiot and play it cool. "You want to just follow us?"
"Sure," he nodded, still surprised that you would even ask him to come over and in front of your brother, no doubt.
You climbed into your car, trying to ignore your brother's stare.
"Did you just invite Eddie over to our house?"
"Yes," you replied as you started up the ignition. "And you're not going to tell mom, considering that this was your plan all along. You're especially not going to tell her that the little concert you wanted to go to so bad was at a dive bar. Pinky promise me."
Dustin wrapped his little finger around yours and bound the contract.
The drive back to your house was longer than usual. You weren't quite sure what made you want to invite Eddie back to your house, but you were only slightly regretting it. It's not like you could get all the way into your driveway and tell him that you had changed your mind.
"Straight to bed," you told your brother when you pulled up outside of your house. The lights were off, signaling that your mother had already gone to bed herself.
Eddie had parked across the street out of habit. He never wanted your mother to question why there was a creepy white van sitting directly in front of her house, especially since she had no idea that he even existed in your life. Dustin gave him a wave before heading inside, leaving the two of you alone.
"For old time's sake?" He asked, holding a joint between his fingers.
"I will not be so easily corrupted, my good sir."
"Says the young lady who used to sneak me in through her window every night," he countered. "Should I go grab the ladder from the side of the house?"
You playfully shoved him before heading towards the front door. Eddie stayed where he was, however, not sure what to do. You turned around and motioned for him to follow you and he was at your side in an instant. When you passed through the front door, Eddie was stalled by the pictures that hung on the walls of the foyer; there was a picture for every year, almost. He had never been through your front door, never stood in your living room. This was all new to him and he needed a moment to take it all in.
"Look at your cheeks," he whispered with a smile as he pointed to one of your baby pictures.
"Come on," you whined, pulling him by the hand into your kitchen.
You knew that your mother kept a few cans of beer in the very back of the fridge in case she ever had company- which was never, and you were certain that it was probably stale, but you still fished them out from behind the two-week old leftovers and handed them to Eddie.
"Who's corrupting who?" He asked with a quiet chuckle.
"Come on, let's go."
"Oh, I'm taking these!" He whispered excitedly as he grabbed a bag of Doritos off of your counter.
You guided him through your backyard to Dustin's treehouse. He was insistent that you go up the ladder first, possibly out of chivalry, definitely because he wanted to stare at your ass. He handed you the beers and the Doritos before pulling himself up the ladder behind you. The tree house was small, and missing a roof at this point. Your dad had built it for Dustin when he was only five, so it had definitely seen better days.
But it offered a clear view of the sky and the crickets in the background provided a beautiful soundtrack.
You sat leaning against one of the wooden beams, Eddie was opposite you. Your feet playfully bumping into his. He cracked open a can of beer and passed it to you before opening one of his own and taking a swig. He placed the joint from earlier in his mouth and lit it, inhaling deeply before blowing the smoke out into the night.
"You remember the first time you brought me over here?"
He passed the joint off to you and you took it without hesitation.
"How could I forget?" You asked, taking a long drag. The burn of the smoke in your throat made you cough. "You were so nervous. You didn't want to touch anything in my room, you were afraid you would break something."
You reached out to pass the joint back to him. His calloused fingers brushed against yours, sending a shiver through your arm. He took a hit of the joint and gently knocked the ashes off of the end.
"I was nervous because when I got there you looked me dead in the eye and asked me to take your virginity. I, too, was a seventeen-year-old virgin, how else was I supposed to react?"
"Hm," you remembered that night fondly. "You were so cute asking me for permission every twenty seconds."
"Just in case you changed your mind."
Eddie reached back out to you, passing the joint; your fingers lingering a little longer this time. The effects of the high were wearing on you, as they always did. You were giggling over nothing with eyes half-open. Eddie wasn't helping; his constant jokes and theatrics as he re-told past memories had you crying from laughing. You prayed that no one could hear you, it had to be past midnight by now.
At this point, you were both laying on your backs looking up at the stars and talking about nothing that mattered because neither one of you wanted to ruin this moment. You were pressed against each other, side-by-side, the warmth from his body keeping you from getting too cold. Your hands touched, back to back, but you could feel his fingers itching to intertwine with yours.
"Fuck, I've missed this," he said softly as his thumb rubbed circles on the back of your hand.
You became suddenly hyper-aware of the situation that you had put yourself in. Your mind began to fixate on the fact that he was holding your hand in his, and that you were completely leaning into him. The high immediately dissipated and you were left with the aching feeling that you were about to cross a line that you did not want to cross.
"I think you should go," was all that you could think to say. "I didn't realize it was so late." You had hoped the last part would soften it.
He sat up and frowned, "Did I do something wrong?"
"All of this is wrong, Eddie." You sighed. "We shouldn't be doing this."
"Why?" He asked, his voice breaking. "I thought we were having a good time."
"We were," you answered honestly.
"Then what is it?" He pushed. You paused. "I'm still not fucking good enough for you am I?" You sighed in response, not wanting to go down this road with him right now. "Well, I am so sorry that I don't fit into the cookie-cutter life that you always wanted; good college, pastel sweaters, conformity."
"Wasn't even able to get into a good college because of you, so don't even bring that shit up right now." The words came heavily from your mouth and were laced with anger.
Eddie stops and turns to you.
"What?"
You had thought about this argument for a long time.
"I know that you remember the day we were caught smoking pot out past the football fields, even though you swore up and down no one ever came out there." You recollected. "I had to put on the performance of a lifetime pretending that I was sick for that 10-day suspension so that my mom didn't find out."
"In case you weren't aware, things like that go on your public record, making it impossible for me to get into a decent school." You could feel your eyes burning. "I applied for almost every college in the goddamned country."
Eddie sighed and reached a hand out to comfort you but you pushed him away. "Y/N, I didn't realize-"
"Of course you didn't," you cried. "You were so- so fucking selfish back then, all you cared about was your little club, your guitar, and your punk ass reputation. I wanted to break up with you then, I almost did, but I loved you so much."
"Baby," he whispered, trying to pull you into his arms. "I'm so sorry."
"I didn't want to break up with you Eddie, but I had to. That day at graduation, I just couldn't do it anymore."
You could see his eyes glossy in the moonlight. He was mere inches away from you, wanting nothing more than to hold you and somehow make this better. He felt fucking awful, and suddenly he realized what you meant when you said that his choices had a way of bleeding into the lives of the people around him. Fuck, he felt like such an asshole.
"You should really go," you said once again.
He nodded, knowing that there was nothing that he could say or do to remedy this situation. In his heart he also knew that trying to win you back was a moot point. You were right to have broken up with him, to never want to see him again. Hell, he wouldn't have wanted to see himself either.
In high school, all that you had talked about was getting out of Hawkins and getting into a good school with a good theater program. The fact that he had something to do with you not being able to achieve those dreams made him feel sick to his stomach. He remembered that day as if it were yesterday. You didn't even want to go out there. You said that you needed to study for your Literature test, but he begged you to skip lunch with him and head out towards the woods.
He remembered how you didn't talk to him for almost a month after that.
He climbed down from the treehouse and turned back one more time, but you wouldn't look at him. He muttered something under his breath that you couldn't quite hear before stalking off into the darkness. You could hear his van start-up and take off down the road, leaving you with nothing but an ache in your gut and a feeling of regret.

10 good things/things I'm proud of this year
thank you so much for the tag @roseofbattles 💕 You're right that it's a good way to wrap up the year. And good luck with your novel! I hope you have fun writing it ☺️
-
1. I finished 2 sketchbooks this year! It used to take me years to finish one but I did two(!!) this year, so that's really something. I'm hoping to take that energy with me into next year
2. Baking! After discovering that one of my coworkers has a huge sweet tooth, I decided to get back into baking and rediscovered my love for it! These two cakes are the winners for this year but I owe my life to these cookies, too.
3. I hit a 500 day duolingo streak in Japanese 🔥 It's not the best way to learn, so I've enrolled in beginner classes this upcoming spring. I can't wait to learn more and hopefully be able to carry a conversation someday lol
4. I went on a really fun road trip to Bryce Canyon with my bestie. This year has been really hard for both of us, so it was really great to get away from everything and just be in the moment for a bit.
5. I started writing again! It'll probably never see the light of day but it feels nice to do it. Thank you to all the wonderful writers on here who inspire me daily 💕
6. I've been a lot more social online and that's honestly done a lot to lift my mood. I'm very thankful for all of the kind people I've met on here. Even if we've only talked once or twice you hold a special little place in my heart.
7. I was able to help a friend move out of a bad living situation. She's a great roommate and I'm happy she's living with me and my partner. (I'm also really happy she brought Onion with her because I would die for that cat)
8. Speaking of finishing things, I actually finished a few games this year. I'm notoriously bad at starting and then never completing games. Books too 😅 I did read a lot this year but not as many books as I'd like.
9. I've set and maintained some pretty hard boundaries with some family members and I'm proud of that. Some very bad things have happened this year and I still don't know how things are going to end up but I'm at least proud of myself for setting boundaries around it at all. Honestly, I wouldn't have been able to handle it a year ago, so I'm glad I can now.
10. I've had soooo much fun just going places and doing things I enjoy on my own. It's great doing things with my partner or with friends but idk it just feels nice going alone sometimes. I never would've felt that way before but that really changed for me this year (Highly recommend getting cheap last minute seats to whatever concert/play/ballet you want to see and just going by yourself. You'll have a fun time, I promise)
Bonus: I'm hoping 2024 brings more time with my friends and family but also more creative time. (I wouldn't say no to a raise, either.) I'd love to get back into more traditional art. Having birds means I can't use oils anymore but I'm thinking gouache might do it for me.
Happy New Year to everyone! I hope it treats us all with kindness ♥️

Hope y’all enjoy!
Tumblr media
Johnny looks astonished at his friend of 10 years. "You what?" Y/n looks down while she plays with her hair. " I...I like you..." She answers, her face turning redder by the second. Johnny's expression went from surprised to apologetic. "Y/n...I'm sorry but I don't feel the same way." Y/n continues to look down, "oh..." Johnny felt bad, but what else could he do? "...if you think about it, I'll be leaving for South Korea next week. The relationship wouldn't work out." Y/n knew he was right. Honestly she was just happy she didn't have to live with knowing she never told Johnny how she felt. "Right as always, Suh." Johnny smiles at her. "We still friends?" He asks with hope written all over his face. Y/n hugs him, "Of course." Johnny hugs Y/n back and smiles. They stayed like that for a while. Y/n sighs, "I'll miss you while you're in Korea." "I'll miss you too."
Tumblr media
"Flight 756 to Seoul, South Korea is now boarding."
"Mom I love you too, but they called my flight!" Johnny says as he tries to escape his mother's kiss shower and tight grip. "Okay fine. Make me proud honey." She says as she lets go of him. "I will. I promise." He give his mom a smile then goes to Y/n who was patently waiting.
"Well this is it." Y/n says. "Yeah. I promise to facetime you whenever I can." He promises as he gives y/n a hug. "Next time I see you in Chicago, it better because you're on tour." Johnny laughs. Before he could respond, the airport speakers went of again. "Last call for Flight 756 to Seoul, South Korea." Johnny sighs and lets go of y/n, "See you soon." "See you soon, Suh." Johnny then did the unthinkable. He leans down and kisses y/n on the cheek, then quickly walked to the boarding gate.
Y/n touched her cheek as she and Johnny's mom watch the plane take flight from the big airport window. Until next time Johnny.
Tumblr media
Y/n and Johnny tried to often talk to each other. Y/n was there through the 8 years of Johnny's constant doubt of ever debuting. She reassured and gave him the hope he needed. She was there to celebrate his debut and made sure he knew how cool he looked. Soon, of course, both were wrapped up in their adulting, that they hardly had time to talk due to their schedules and, eventually, they lost communication.
Y/n became a really popular model in America. She moved to Los Angeles for a few years, but went back to Chicago after being so homesick. Johnny debuted with NCT 127 a few years ago and his music career became his top priority. Both of them kinda forgot about each other. Well that was until NCT 127 went on their world tour.
Johnny was happy to perform in Chicago. He couldn't wait to see his mother and all his old favorite places to go. He was actually planning on taking the members to his favorite restaurant after the concert. He even planned to spend the next 2 days with his mom before they left to another state. He was beyond excited. It really shown while he was on the stage. When the concert was over he quickly went back stage and started rushing the members so they can quickly go to the restaurant. He hasn't been there for years. He went there everyday with y/n- Johnny smiled. He hasn't heard from y/n in a while. Going back to the restaurant will for sure bring back a lot of memories.
"Finally!" Johnny shouts as the van pulls up to the place he's been missing for years. The members walk into the restaurant while Johnny's 6 foot self jumps in excitement. The hostess/owner sees Johnny and a smile quickly grows on her face. "Johnny? Long time no see!" She leaves from behind the counter and hugs Johnny. He hugs her back, "Hey Mrs. Jones!" "I see Korea treated you well. You're a giant now!" Johnny laughs. "I've seen y/n come here with her boyfriend all the time and I thought it was weird to not see her here with you. Today she came in alone. I was wondering why but now that I see that you're here I understand completely." Johnny looks at Mrs. Jones confused then that's when he gets what she's hinting at. "No! Nonononono I'm here with my members." He jesters to the guys patiently standing behind him. Mrs. Jones eyes widen. "Oh my goodness! Let me get you guys seated. I'm so sorry." The members tell her that it's fine as she rushes them to a big table. She gives them all menus. "Your waitress should be here soon." She smiles at them and left, but not before hugging Johnny one more time and saying, "Y/n is over there if you want to say hi." She points y/n out. When Mrs. Jones left, Johnny looked at y/n for a while. She looks beautiful.
Y/n sits at her table for 2 alone and constantly checks her phone. "Where is he?" She mumbles to herself. Her boyfriend has never been this late before. Maybe he forgot. She sighs. It's been almost 2 hours. She gives up and asks the waiter for the check. As she checks her phone one last time, someone sits in front of her. She assumes it was her boyfriend. "Where the h- Johnny?" She looked up mid-sentence and saw her childhood best friend, Johnny Suh. "Hey." Y/n smiles from ear to ear and quickly stands up from her seat so she can hug him. Johnny stands up as well and hugs her. "I-I can't believe it's you...You're so tall!" He snorts, "Why does everyone keep saying that?" Y/n laughs. The two hugged a bit longer and eventually let go. "What are you doing in Chicago?" "I'm on tour with my group." Johnny gestures to his friends who are staring them down. "Oh you're eating with them? Don't let me bother you. I was just about to head out anyway. I'm just waiting on my check." "oh really? How much was your meal?" "Only $2.15 since I didn't eat anything." And before y/n could even stop him, Johnny put $3.00 on the table, grabbed her hand then dragged her to his table. "You can eat with us." is all he says as he drags her. Y/n protest but Johnny keeps going.
When they made it to NCT 127's table, Johnny says, "Guys this is my childhood best friend y/n. Y/n this is Taeyong, Yuta, Haechan, Mark, Jungwoo, Taeil, Doyoung, and Jaehyun." The guys wave and greeted y/n and she shyly waved back. Haechan mumbles a "yeoppeo" to himself. He wasn't quiet enough though and got a smack on the head from Johnny and red cheeks from y/n. She learned Korean from Johnny's mom and the Korean class she signed up for to surprise Johnny a while ago. Johnny pulled out a chair for y/n and she reluctantly sat.
The members asked y/n many questions about herself and younger Johnny. She was a bit shy at first but soon opened up to them and told them many embarrassing Johnny stories. "Y/n please!" Johnny pleads while trying to cover y/n's mouth. "No No! Let me tell it!" She says while fighting back. The members laugh at the two and laughed even harder at the ending of y/n's story. Johnny rolls his eyes, but is secretly happy that the members have taken a liking into y/n. He looks at her as she tells more stories from their childhood and can't help but think, she's really gotten beautiful over the years. Her personality hasn't changed at all though. He smiles at her as she waves her arms around while telling the story of how he threw up on a rollercoaster once. However, the moment was short lasted.
"Y/n, there you are!" Everyone turned to the voice. Y/n eyes widened. "Andrew! Where were you?!" She says as she stands up and walks angrily towards him. He grabs her and and takes her further from the table. Johnny sees them talking but can't hear anything. He sighs. Jaehyun notices Johnny's dismay. "I got this bro! I can read lips." Johnny rolls his eyes as Jaehyun focuses on the pair. "Okay so y/n said 'I'm sorry your grandma fell down the stairs. Is she okay?' the guy said 'Yeah she's fine. You know grandma's a trooper.' 'Yeah she's the strongest woman I know. Hehehehehe. I'll go say bye to the guys so we can go.' And now she's coming this way." Haechan scoffs, "There's no way that's what they were saying." "Yeah there's no way." Taeil agrees. The members nod in agreement as well. "I guess we'll see for ourselves." Jaehyun says as y/n made it to the table.
"Hey guys I got to go see my boyfriend's grandma. She fell down the stairs! Crazy right?" Y/n says, making the members look at Jaehyun with wide eyes while he leans back with a smirk on his face. Y/n looks at them in confusion, "What?" Johnny shakes his head, "Nothing...before you go. I wanted to ask if you wanted to go to Six Flags with us tomorrow." Y/n jumps in excitement, "I haven't been there in a while! Of course I would go with you guys!" She looks back at Andrew who smiles at her. She turns back to Johnny, "Can Andrew come too? I would love for you guys to meet!" Johnny screams on the inside and says, "Of course he can." Y/n smiles widely at him and hugs him. "Okay text me the time you want to meet up and I'll see you then. My number is still the same by the way." She waves goodbye to the other members and they wave back and say bye.
As soon as y/n left the members ask Johnny why he ask her that. "We never said anything about Six Flags. I thought you were going to spend the next 2 days with your mom?" Taeyong questions. Johnny totally forgot about that, " Well 1. I asked because I want to spend more time with y/n and 2. I can see my mom before we go to Six Flags, like a take her out to breakfast and when we get back I can treat her to dinner. The day we leave I can spend that time with her too, so it'll be fine." Mark looks at Johnny, "You really like y/n huh?" Johnny coughs at this, "WHAT?! No! I just haven't seen her for what, like, a gajillion years and I missed her." "Because you like her." Jungwoo adds. The members laugh. Johnny's face turns red, "Just...shut up and eat."
Tumblr media
The guys bang on the bathroom door. "Johnny hurry up!" "Come on! I need to pee!" "Haechan just go to your own restroom." "It's too far!" The guys continue to knock on the door. Johnny ignores them as he finally got his hair the way he wanted. He pats his clothes a little bit then smiles at the mirror. "Looking good Johnny." He finally opens the bathroom door only to be pushed out of the way by Haechan who needed to pee really bad but was too lazy to walk to his own bathroom.
"About freaking time!" "Were you pooping your organs or something?!" The guys asked many questions just to be ignored by Johnny. He had the biggest smile on his face as he put on his shoes then walked out of his hotel room. He practically skipped to their van and yelled out to the others that they're walking too slow. He couldn't wait to see y/n. He texted her that they're on their way now and she responded saying that she's already there. Johnny screamed at the now satisfied Haechan to hurry up and get in the car.
They finally arrived at the amusement park. Johnny pushes past the members to get out of the car first. He once again ignored their complaints and looked around for y/n.
Y/n sees Johnny and starts waving her arms. He eventually sees her. He runs to her and picks her up. They spin around while laughing. Even when he put her down, they were nothing but giggles. Their moment was interrupted by the sound of someone clearing their throat. That's when Johnny remembered that he was coming too.
"Nice to meet you! I'm Andrew, y/n's boyfriend." He said with a sweet smile and held his hand out. Johnny decided not to be petty and returned the handshake. "I'm Johnny." They both stood there. Analyzing each other.
"Wow if I was a bystander I would think that you two were dating." Y/n jokes and the boys both laugh loudly at her joke. Slightly glaring at each other. Andrew looked away from Johnny and at his girlfriend. "Let's go before the line gets too long!" Before y/n could respond, Andrew grabbed her hand and ran to the entrance. Johnny looked at them and sighed.
"Brutal." Mark says and Johnny rolls his eyes.
Tumblr media
The whole day kinda went like that. Johnny fighting for y/n's attention by winning her stuffed animals and making her laugh. Meanwhile Andrew would take y/n on tons of rides with promises of protecting her and giving her tons of kisses. Y/n was completely oblivious about the competition and was just enjoying her time.
Soon it was getting dark and the Six Flags fireworks show was about to start. "I'll go get snacks." Y/n says. Johnny and Andrew jumped up. "I'll go with you!" Y/n taps their shoulders. "You've both did enough for me today. Sit down and relax. Taeyong, will you go with me please?" "Of course." He stands up. "Me too!" Haechan gets up as well. Y/n giggled then they head off to the closest snack place.
Everything was peaceful for a second but someone had to open their mouth. "What are your intentions with y/n?" Andrew says. Johnny looks at him, "What?" "You heard my question. You've been flirting with my girlfriend since you got here." Johnny then realized that it was wrong to flirt with a girl who was already taken. No matter who they were. He was about to apologize when Andrew spoke again. "Well it doesn't matter because it's not like she'll want to be with you anyway." Andrew smirks while Johnny raises an eyebrow, "It's funny. You seem like the perfect guy for her. Famous, kind, treats her right, loyal. Yet she's with me. The guy who would lie about his grandma being hurt just to get away with cheating on her."
Johnny shoots up. "You did what?!" Andrew stands up too. "And there's nothing you can do about it. 'Cause honestly who would she believe? Me, her sweet loving boyfriend or her ex best friend who left her heart broken." Johnny eyes widened. "You think I wouldn't have known about that? Y/n was untouchable for years because of you. Well that was at least until I got to her. I didn't even like her and she was just throwing herself on me. I still don't like her." "Then why are you with her?" Johnny's anger rises. "Duh! She’s rich and famous! Nothing’s better than a sugar mama.” Johnny balls up his fist. Andrew sees that. "Awe are you getting mad? Don't worry. When I'm done with her, you can have my sloppy seconds-" Johnny punches Andrew square on his jaw. Andrew fell and Johnny went down and threw more punches at him. The members try to pull him off of Andrew but it was too late.
"Johnny?"
He quickly turned around and saw y/n standing there. He then realized how bad this looked. "Awe man. I missed the good stuff!" Haechan says and receives a head smack from Taeyong. Johnny tries to explain everything as y/n puts the snacks on the table. She quickly tried to see if Andrew was okay but the bruises on his face and his teary eyes told her everything she needed to know. Y/n puts his head on her lap and glares at Johnny. "First you break my heart and leave me here with a kiss on the cheek as if that'll make me feel better THEN you ignore me for years THEN you comeback and talk to me like you've done nothing wrong THEN you beat up my boyfriend! What's wrong with you Johnny?!" Johnny opens his mouth but nothing comes out. The members who were there tried to talk for him. "Y/n you should've heard what Andrew was saying." "Johnny did what was right." "Please listen to us." "We have no reason to lie to you."
"No reason? Johnny's your friend! Of course you'll lie for him!" Y/n was about to pop off again when Andrew spoke up. "I just wanted to be friends with him but he said that I didn't deserve you and that he only wants you so he can use you for publicity. I tried to stand up to him but he punched me." Y/n heard nothing. She didn't hear the guys scream that it wasn't true. She didn't hear the fireworks. She didn't hear Andrew's fake cries. She didn't hear anything. Is it true? Would Johnny really say something like that? Am I really that gullible to believe he would want to be friends with me again? Johnny's changed since I last saw him...it could be true. She looked at Johnny. They both have tears in their eyes. Johnny hasn't changed that much though.
Y/n snaps back into reality. She sits up and lets Andrew's head fall to the ground. He hisses in pain. She ignores him and walks to Johnny. "Tell me the truth." She demands as she looks him straight in the eye. He tells her everything in great detail. She listened and believed every word. When Johnny finished, he looks nervously at y/n's unreadable face.  She turns around and kicks Andrew. "We're through."
She links her arm with Johnny's. "Take me home please." He smiles at her and walks away with the members following them. Well most of the members. Jaehyun and Mark stayed behind. They pointed their middle fingers and laughed at Andrew. When Andrew was about to get up, they ran away while laughing like little kids.

"if i'm having fun it's good and if i'm not having fun it's bad" you're so so so real for this!! anyway sorry i disappeared for like a week so i'm going to ask more questions to make up for it: 1) i know i'm late to the spotify wrapped party but who were your favorite artists this year? are there any songs in particular that stood out to you? this can be either for disney artists or not it's up to you 2) how are you feeling about rise of red coming out next year? i know the plot looks too crazy even for descendants standards, and it helps that it's a brand new creative team, but is there anything specific you're hoping to see from the expanded world? 3) i need to hear your thoughts on zombies 4 because i know there's no way addison will have yet another identity crisis - gcwca secret santa
hi !!!! i hope u had a good week when you disappeared and not like, a terrible one!
to answer your questions, my fave artists were mostly non disney channel :( i think the only disney channel who made it into my top 100 was some sabrina songs :( but! my top five were:
noah kahan (so real)
fall out boy (they counted november this year which i know bc they would NOT have been in my top 5 otherwise. they were my nano soundtrack. tho tbh i think this nano project made me an actual for real fall out boy fan)
taylor swift
dessa
xana
if we could add some i feel like chappell roan should've been in my top five but alas :( also i saw two out of my top five in concert this year :) if we count tickets i bought for next year's concerts i am seeing 4/5 of my top five!! (i also saw chappell roan and she was SOOOOOO good in person). this year turned me into a genuine Concert Girlie (gender neutral) so that's been fun. or it would be, if i didn't have to drive 2 1/2 hours at best to get to one bc i live in the middle of fucking nowhere and no one comes here :(
as for the rise of red: honestly, i'm pretty excited! i'm not allowing myself to feel Bad about it until we get more information. plus, it's giving me the thing i always wanted out of the descendants franchise (qoh kid) so honestly this like, really works for me. like maybe when i watch it later it will be bad? and i'll be upset and disappointed? but. in the meantime, i'm having a great time! still living on the qoh kid high! like, the plot seems wild but personally i'm like. "descendants as a franchise never made sense and i'm getting what i personally wanted out of this franchise from it so i'm having a good time until proven otherwise"
i think a lot of people have strong feelings about it bc of cam, which is totally valid and is their right, but my personal feelings are since the core four aren't coming back, i'm okay with it. disney was never going to let their biggest franchise since hsm lie, yknow? i think this is the best it could've been in that sense of it? idk.
as for zombies 4. truly i have NO idea. honestly the most fun i have ever had with the zombies franchise was watching all three of them with two of my friends whilst we were all stoned, and personally i hope rupaul comes back because i thought it was funny. i'm so sorry if you're a zombies stan but they are not high art to me. they are fun little movies to watch while i get high and then i do not think about them until i want to show someone a silly little dcom franchise and jumpscare them with the presence of rupaul. personally i hope zombies 4 introduces addison's cousin from the human side of the family named allison who is now the one who gets to have identity criseses who is also played by meg donnelly. i hope coach has a new job. i hope his legal name is coach. i hope ej caswell finally gets to leave this discord. i hope they make a reference to the winchesters.

Warning: Talks of depression, su!c!de, and SA
This is going to be long, but if you care enough to read the whole thing, then thank you. Not looking for an argument. Just giving my perspective and my thoughts on Taylor Swift. If you don't want it, then don't read.
Taylor has been under fire a lot recently for many different things and I don't think that's fair. I saw a video talking about her plane usage and there was a comment defending her. Someone had replied to that comment saying things along the line of "Taylor is never gonna give you anything, you're not going to get invited to her house so I don't know why you're defending her."
You're right. She is not going to see our comments on a random YouTube video. We'll never be bff's with her. The majority of us will never even get to meet her. That doesn't matter to us, at least, to me it doesn't.
I was three years old when her debut album came out. I remember jamming to Picture to Burn (OG lyrics) and Our Song. I even remember that Teardrops on My Guitar had a version that said "You" instead of Drew and the song also used to say the word "Damn". It wouldn't be until high school that I became a Swifite, but I always liked her songs.
I remember 7th grade when I was su!c!da1 and depressed. My favorite artist at the time was Sabrina Carpenter and I found her cover of Safe & Sound. I had never heard this song before but I was in love with it. This led me to the original recording by Taylor and Safe & Sound has been my favorite Taylor Swift song to this day. I cried when she announced the Taylor's Version of the song because of how much that song helped me. Watching Sabrina Carpenter grow up covering multiple Taylor Swift songs and end up opening for her at the Eras Tour was magical and shows that dreams can come true. Sabrina Carpenter's song Exhale was also a song I used to cope and calm myself during panic attacks.
I remember watching the video of the one year anniversary of Taylor winning her SA case and playing Clean at the Reputation tour. I had something happen to me in my childhood that I struggled to even think of without crying. SA is a horrible thing that shouldn't happen to anyone, and it can be anyone. From a nobody like me to the person who was labeled the Music Industry. It helped me to know and understand that I wasn't alone in my fears or feelings.
Forever Winter came out a year after a very hard year for me. Beginning of the school year, a close and long time friend made an attempt on their life and I didn't see them for a month. It wasn't until they came back that I knew what had happened. (Check on your love ones, even the ones that seem fine) then the next semester, another friend went through the same. Except they didn't get to try because someone found out and was able to call the police and get them help. It was so terrifying and I sobbed when that song came out because it meant so much to me. I had nightmares over my friends being away. This song helped me when I was in a similar position and I didn't want someone to feel the way I felt. I don't want someone to hear Forever Winter and think about me. I have a connection with Soon You'll Get Better. My mom was in and out of the hospital for strokes and doctors couldn't figure out what was triggering them. For most of my childhood, my mom was pretty much the only parent I had. She's not a Taylor Swift fan, but I picked her first to come with me to Eras because all of the concerts I went to I went with her and she's very important to me. I literally can't imagine my life without her and I wouldn't be the person I am now if she hadn't been my mom.
I had another battle with depression and ended up hurting myself a lot. After hiding it for months, I ended 2023 with the line, "Long story short, it was a bad time. Long story short, I survived". And I hope that those last two words continues to be true. Her songs also become my goals, both small and big. I have the day marked on my calendar when I'll be "10 months sober" from my last incident and she was right when she said "When I was drowning, that's when I could finally breathe". In my last incident I was crying uncontrollably on my kitchen floor, but was able to get someone to come help me before I escalated the situation. I needed that breakdown to finally get the help I needed and realize that I wanted to live. Someday, I will look back on these years and once again say, "I survived".
When people say that she's never going to give us anything. You're wrong. She wrote down the words and emotions that we experienced and she lets us know that we're not alone. She gives us a way to cope with our situation or just something to dance around to. She helps us connect with people. We all made friendship bracelets for Eras because of one line in a song. Bracelets have now become a huge part of the fan base and we connect and make friends with more people that way now. Taylor Swift is not perfect. No one is perfect. She is a good person who does care about her friends, family and fans and has proven that many many times.
You don't know what goes on when the cameras are off. People want to be upset for her bringing Lana on stage. I'm not going to act like I know what really happened, but I do know that if my friend won something and was trying to bring me up with her, I'd say "No, it's okay, it's your award" but if they wanted me up there I would've gone. Lana helped with Midnights with Snow on the Beach. Maybe she was just shy or introverted in that moment. We don't know. We don't know what went through Taylor's head when she won AOTY. I do know that her and Celine have interacted before so they weren't strangers. Taylor acknowledged Lana as a legacy artist because she inspires her and Lana helped with Midnights. And it is possible to be just as excited about your 14th award as you were for your first. People would've come after her if she hadn't reacted to winning. I get excited every time my best friend texts me first and I've known her for seven years. Let alone someone who won a record breaking award for most AOTY wins. She had limited time and was in the moment. Miley Cyrus didn't use up her time hugging everyone, which doesn't matter because we shouldn't be "Comparing all the girls who are killing it". To everyone who complains every time Taylor breathed, she's damned if she does, damned if she doesn't because someone is going to complain no matter what. But this post isn't about what you think Taylor should or shouldn't do. This is about what she has already done for me and others like me.
I'm going back to the YouTube comment. The next time you meet a Swifite, ask them why they like her so much and listen to what they have to say. Ask them what their favorite song is and why they like it so much. Taylor has given us all a voice with the songs she writes. A lot of us have a personal story that connects to one of our favorite songs. She gives some of us confidence. The day I started calling myself a Swifite was the day I started caring less about what people thought of me. I don't care if they call me weird because I am weird. If they make comments, it just encourages me to be myself more. She has a song for every emotion I have felt and I use music to cope and relax. Her songs make me smile when I'm having a bad day. I love the variety of sounds and lyrics throughout her discography. She makes me learn because she keeps using big, fancy words/phrases that I don't understand and have to go look up so I can understand the song.
You don't have to like her, but don't go after the people who do. One of the worst kinds of people are the ones who make others feel bad about something that makes them happy. We came for the music and stayed for her character. Look beyond what the media shares because the media only shares parts of the story and their "facts" aren't always accurate.
If you made it this far, I thank you and hope you are doing okay physically, mentally, and emotionally. I'm not great at advice, but I am always willing to listen if you need someone to talk to. If you wanna chat about Taylor or something else, I'd love to, or if you want to get something off your chest, I'm here. Our world has enough problems without us tearing each other down over artists we like or things we enjoy.

I'm going to the louis show in Birmingham which seems to be (at the moment!) The last show on his European leg so I keep swinging from "omg no what if he cuts holding onto Heartache like he did at the end of the NA leg 😭" and "omg what if he sings headline with the academic 👀" -so many months to clown!!!
I'm sorry to bother you with my clowning but I don't have any louis friends (new fan!) And am so so excited (and nervous) for the show!
Do you think he'll mix up the setlist for each leg of the tour?
It's no bother at all! Always feel free to freak out about Louis' music and shows in my inbox. Well let me start by saying congrats you're going to see him live in all his glory and get to hear the perfection that is fitf live AND at the last Europe leg concert at that. I'm sure you'll have the best time ❤️ (i'm also jealous bc i can't see him this year 😭). As far as mixing the setlist, last tour he kept it pretty much the same for all the legs (except for adding change after a certain Europe show and removing too young towards the end of the tour if i remmember correctly) but this time he seems to be playing with the setlist a lot more. I think he'll keep it mainly the same but with a few changes. I think he'll definetely add a new song (don't know what song will be the victim if he does though 😭 maybe common people 🥺) and it will be either headline (especially that you're going to see him in the last show and with the academics as openers) or paradise (afhf seems very paradise coded to me so i feel like he might perform it at the festival and then carry on with it for the Europe leg). I really hope he keeps the 505 cover and back to you (what if he replaces bty with miss you!). I also really really hope he drops wdbhg it's just light years away from his lyricism like he's such a genius songwriter and the lyrics to that song are just.. bad. It's ok if he insists on playing two 1d songs but Louis pls choose another i can't stand this one 😭. So far, he's only skipped hoth when there are curfew issues, so it depends on your luck. If there will be no such issues, i think he'll definetely play it especially that it's such a fan favorite (you can also go see him a few more shows if you can just to make sure you get to hear it live 😁). I'm hoping for always you in Amsterdam 🥺. I'll also clown and say that we'll get guitar Louis (if he doesn't do it in Europe, then i think there's no hope we'll get it this tour we'll have to wait till the next one 😭). All in all that's what i think/ hope will or will not change in the setlist (i personally think it's perfect as it is he just needs to drop wdbhg and put headline instead). And since you're new fan, i just want to say welcome to the fandom Louis and louies are the best 🫶🏽 and there are very nice and amazing solo louies here and on Twitter that you can follow. I hope you get the time of your life at the concert 💙. Until then, you're always welcome to share your thoughts and excitement in my inbox 🫶🏽

…so I might be a tad obsessed with Fall Out Boy’s newest album.
Just a smidge.
Anyways, oh my god this album is fucking amazing. We started off with some absolute bangers; “Love From The Other Side” and “Heartbreak Feels So Good” are masterpieces, and I was deeply curious about the rest of the album. It did not disappoint, and lived up to the hype and more. See the music rant below the fold if you want to read this dingus’ thoughts!
We start off the album (post the first two) with a great banger. That bassline just hooks you in and gives you a sense of “oh shit, this album is gonna be good”. It feels like old plus new Fall Out Boy, like comfort food but reinvented with different spices, you know?
“Hold me, hold me like a grudge. The world is always spinning and I can’t keep up”
The next song I wanna gush about is one that’s really upbeat and happy. As funny as this sounds, it’s like “Happy” but done right, you know? XD But seriously, I like this song a lot. It samples “Little Bitty Pretty One” by Thurston Harris, which many of you might recognize from Matilda (1996). It literally made me pop up like “I RECOGNIZE THIS BUT WHAT IS THE NAME”. Anyways, take a listen!
“Feeling so good right now, Feeling so good right now. Til we crash and burn somehow”
Strap in for this next song, because it feels straight out of a movie. Like seriously, it’s so dramatic and dark for almost no reason, but it slaps. It feels like this should play over the climax of a movie, probably over where the villain is monologuing, or hell even over the fall/corruption of a hero. Especially with that line “Just another day spent hoping we don't fall apart. So drop a bomb on all the things we dreamed about”. Anyways, it’s an amazing song that goes so hard, take a listen!
“Smash all the guitars. Till we see all the stars. Oh, got to throw this year away, we got to throw this year away like a bad luck charm”
Ok ok I cannot stop myself from talking about this song any longer. I knew this song was going to be good, I knew it was going to slap, but I still was not prepared for the sheer amount of talent, work, time, and music that went into this piece. Call me dramatic, but like, masterpiece doesn’t even begin to describe this. I absolutely love the call back to “Love From The Other Side” with “You were the sunshine of my lifetime, What would you trade the pain for?”. This song resonates with me so strongly, on such another level. From the jazz and orchestral background blending with FOB’s punk rock so seamlessly, to the lyrics and vocal performance, everything is just so goddamn amazing. Anyways, please listen to it. It’s way too good to just fall under the radar. I honestly think it’s one of my favorite songs I’ve found in a while.
“So much for stardust! We thought we had it all, thought we had it all. Thought we had it all, thought we had it all, thought we had it all…”
Tumblr media
Broooo I absolutely love this album sm, FOB really came back with some absolute bangers. If only they were close enough so I could see them in concert 😭

inside (2021)
some random quote from lord of the rings incorrectly attributed to martin luther king.
Tumblr media
first of all, i hope what that post won’t be all about depression, but who knows.
bo burnham is a comedian. like many comedians, he jokes about feminism («everyone's a feminist until there is a spider aroundt»), about the phrase «white man» and that the cursed capitalists have again destroyed the world. and he didn’t joke five years before that stand-up. in the summer of 2016, the last special “make happy” came out, which ended with the song «can’t handle this», which described the difficulties of being a comedian. before this bo had serious problems with feeling himself on stage (regular panic attacks during the performance), which led him to a certain situation from which he fight for five years.
and so, as he was finishing his therapy by the beginning of 2020, the idea matured. he can go on stage again, make jokes, tell people about his life, and work again. again these «night shifts» with the desire to make people happy, repeating the same jokes to get out of his dead-end work on a new round and the next year repeat all the same. and then, the funniest thing happened.
this is another film about pandemic reality. unlike «knives out: glass onion» all happens in one place. unlike «staged» only one person works on this. no job share or «zoom comedy». we see what is locked in a small house, creating reality around us and trying to find a common idea that will cheer the viewer. and that’s the hardest thing for a live comedian to do: to hear laughter and applause where they didn’t exist.
Tumblr media
i think we all heard «welcome to the internet» and maybe «1985» that make fun of some reality around us.  and while the second song is outtakes, the first one is almost at the end of the whole stand-up. and even from there, we meet this contrast of comedy that exists for bo and comedian. we see a contrast between «joker» and «depression», but they are connected in one - in one person.
the theme of comedy in depression is now common. satire on society is mixed with outright frustration and fear. with what requires the help of a specialist. bo in depression. and on this topic even there is a scientific work - about how separate personalities in this stand-up. you didn’t think i’d just write about a bunch of music jokes, did you?
anyway, in order to see the structure of the show for netflix, we need to break it down into episodes. yes, between each song there are certain phrases, stories, moment and even work with frame (oh, my favorite theme), but this i will touch at the end, and in the meantime small structural points that i take from the «top of the iceberg».
(yes i love read a lot of paper work about things i passionate about. as always.)
song 1. / content.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the first song is the most important song. we open the stand-up for an hour and a half from a comedian who always played the piano as part of the performance (let’s call it a concert), and the first song is what gives us context. background? maybe even exposure.
this is the beginning. at the end of «make happy» we see a high level of stress. here, if it does appear, it does not grow.
and in the 7th line of the whole stand we see «robert’s been a little depressed, no» and attempts to «get out» of this state - to get up, sit down, write jokes and sing silly songs. he made «content», which he hopes the public will like - and himself. so we see both apology, invitation, and justification. the first song. what’s next? who knows.
song 2. / comedy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
one of my favorite songs is for obvious reasons. beginning - questions, questions, questions, - literally all doubts about the work. flexi-time and light workload are cool, but not when you are working alone and in bad relationships with your workmate. can the work be done? maybe comedy isn’t as glamorous as work? maybe, maybe, maybe?
Tumblr media
and all these doubts that are based on the desire to make the world a better place, to keep it better than it was before. and all of them cut off on money, which is a certain technique that creates a comedy out of horror.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
making it absurd. the technique is simple and old, but it does not get worse.
this is all - a big oxymoron. «healing the world with comedy» - «not for free». «to give your money to change the world? no, i’m better will take money to change the world.» and so on. a bright image is a comedy world in practice is harder to change than money. «if you wake up in a house that’s full of smoke don’t panic-call me and i’ll tell you a joke». will a joke save you? i don’t know, but i don’t think so.
it then cuts to a scene of robert, the actual person sitting in front of the mirror with a microphone in hand and talking. it creates a sharp contrast between the performance of “comedy” and this following scene as from the overwhelming experience of many cuts and sounds, he is suddenly sitting in daylight in silence. this scene is also important because it is one of the first ones that create this sense. he even says that: “it will be only me and my camera and, of course, you and your screen” which ultimately connects robert and the viewer as it feels almost like an intimate relationship because no one else is present.
song 9. / look who’s inside again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the whole stand-up, if we divide it into «robert» and «bo», shows us this «prison cell» in which they find themselves. one location. wires on the floor that are tangled. pandemic. own fears. this is a conflict of «fight club», but in miniature, in the aquarium. and the visual appearance of the scene with this song - the camera on the floor, the wire around, the lack of bright color lighting and the element «show» - is more a personal conversation about whether you can do your job if you are alone in the room and you are not a freelancer. can you do your job if you don’t have a deadline, if you’re depressed and «surrounded»? try.
but cool thing about this: it cuts to another behind the scenes sequence where robert is testing the mist machine and is moving the cameras. this specific scene is interesting because it is ended with the camera falling where robert is trying to catch it but failing his attempt. that again creates the illusion of an “accident” which brings the question of whether it was all planned or truly an accident. this scene might only create the illusion of authenticity and relatability which then helps burnham to create a deeper relationship with the viewer.
song 11. / 30.
Tumblr media
robert (not bo, again) is sitting in the middle of the room next to a digital clock that shows that it is two minutes before midnight. it had been six months since starting to work on this special and that he thought that he would have been finished by his birthday, but didn’t manage to achieve that and sits for the remaining minute of his twenties in silence.
and “clap”. 12:00 on the clock, so he didn’t achieve his idea.
Tumblr media
yes, this is another post about the crisis of growing up. yes, i know that everyone is tired of it, but apparently, people are really afraid of getting old. overcome 18 years, 21 years, 30 years, 40 years and beyond. nobody wants to become old. especially those who make money with their humor. «humor and old age are not compatible», yes?
but this part of the scene is bo. it’s a show. it’s a show out of the idea of aging. the show out of awareness is old. the show from the realization of «i am thirty, i no longer fit the definition of «young», yes?». i feel sorry for everyone who goes through this.
song 14. / all time low.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i was talking about a «contrast». about the separation of bo and robert. so this song shows all of this robert’s depression and bo’s depression. the first one sinks. the second makes of this show. the first jokes through force. the second presents his horror picture, like a skittles or something - bright, sweet, but still it turns out that something is wrong. and that’s one person. still.
song 19. / goodbye.
i realize we’ve been gone a long time for a thousand words, so i’m really trying to cut down on what i think, write and say here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this song is important for the visual element (like the whole stand-up, let’s be honest). we see robert - short hair, short beard. he’s at the beginning. he just comes up with an idea. «the concept of the last song». he comes up with a way to start over after five years of missing.
Tumblr media
he enters the cage. promises to become a prisoner. he asks if he has returned many years ago when he first started. he’s trying to figure out what to do when the format changes, the salary is the same, and the work is out of touch.
Tumblr media
the song mixes everything before. and it’s an important element.
the promise to get into the cage. thoughts that mix and should be structured. questions about finding a beginning. first attempts after a break. do you get the point?
after songs. / truman show.
we watched an hour and a half of how one person locked in a cage struggles with himself. things from "can’t handle this" remain relevant.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and it’s time to get out of the cage. find the wall, climb the stairs and realize that you’ve been surrounded all this time. and robert’s doing it. gets out of his «dragon lair». if the hero’s journey is through the dragon fight, then for robert the dragon is himself.
Tumblr media
we see visual elements - tangled wires, light, pictures on the wall, a ray that falls on the clock (two minutes left... one minute left...). we see all this and in this one of the nicest things about this work is that it was done by one person, makes it original. completely. solutions with light. decisions with composition. decisions with music. all this is one robert burnham. a depressed guy who plays silly songs, jokes, tries to come up with something new and creates. it is robert burnham who is the writer, director, principal actor, musician, makeup artist, creative director and performer. he is all of this. he creates his reality in a little house-cage, and we get to look at it. discuss. and that’s the beauty of this work – persona.

Sandman rambling by someone who was shaped by the comics growing up
I've been into the comics since I was a bullied, lonely 12 year old who was handed Endless Nights because someone didn't want it in their library anymore. I understood nothing. Yet, I devoured it in a few days and a few weeks later I had the first issue of the comic. Since then, it has been a major, if not the biggest, part of my fictional life. There's few characters that are as dear to me as Death and Morpheus, as Rose and Hob are to me. Sandman, to me, is my ultimate escapist medium. It's where I go to when everything else fails me.
Cut for Length. Bc I rambled.
The show I expected nothing from. I didn't like the casting at announcement, I didn't like the setting change into the 2020s (which to me has only been a hurtful, horrible decade with no style), and I definitely did not like that they did not give Morpheus his signature eyes.
I mellowed out as I watched my way through the show. The casting is good, really good. The only one I actively dislike is Jenna Coleman's Johanna but that might also be because I find her character to be flatly written and have never been a fan of hers (no offense to Jenna! She's great! I just didn't like her at this instance). The others - especially Mason Alexander Park I have to give special credit here - are doing a great job.
It's a slow show (my dad fell asleep multiple times through it), and it takes time. Which it should. This isn't the story of great action-rich battles, this is the story of someone who is millenia old, meeting humans who have less than a fraction of this time and being forced to change their ways. It's a beautiful looking show. It hits hard when it should, it has great acting performances. Especially John Dee, who has been greatly humanised (for better and for worse) and Roderick Burgess have been played with such grand epicness by two actors I personally enjoy.
Now to my downsides. Because over all, to me, this is a mixed bag. -> death's character design. I loved Kirby. What I didn't love is.... how basic she looked. I know, this is the death look, the iconic one, but it did not hit that hard when you're in the 2020s and a black tank top and black jeans are just... normal wear. I was robbed of Goth Icon Death and that I did not get her and Dream to look like they were attending a Cure concert. I know it's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation (who would like to change her iconic look?!) but dang it, I really hope that IF we get a season 2, we get a Death in a more fancy outfit with some more nods to subculture fashion. (Egirl Death would be really funny to me tbh) -> I feel like a lot got sanitised. Non of the deep, gut wrenching punches of the comics (Constantine's girlfriend with the Sand, 24 hours as a whole...) felt... impactful. The show is rated 18 and yet I felt neither scared nor unsettled once while watching it. Hell, my mother who can't even stand Supernatural was nothing but fine with it. I guess, it's because this is not the time for gruesomeness on TV and maybe it is the wrong show, but I feel the 18 rating (in my country at least) was so not justified. Bad shit happened. I guess. It didn't feel like it was *that* bad, because, oh well, next episode the world is normal! Nothing ever happened. We never got the chaos that Dream's absence caused - and what his artefacts did - in the waking world, apart from being alluded to in 24/7 and like, the sleeping sickness?? -> What I call the "tumblrfication of the Corinthian". He's not scary. Hell, he's not even THAT creepy. If this was any other show he wouldn't even be that bad of a guy (considering shows like hannibal here). He's the bad guy because the plot needs him to be. How many people are happily excusing him being a literal walking nightmare because they are horny.... idk. I'm really happy for you (not sarcasm!). For me personally, I would have liked him to be genuinely, really scary. He's a waking nightmare. His comic version is one of the best villains I've ever seen and he's genuinely, bad pun, nightmare inducing. The humanisation of his - and John Dee's to an extend - character happens so you have more to write about. And so you can make your audience somewhat like them. I personally did not enjoy that at all.
Those are the three big ones. Lyta Hall's story being changed, I give them, fair. Though it again wasn't scary. "Being 8 months pregnant forever" vs "being in labor within a few days" just does not pack the same punch. I give them the gender-bending of Lucifer bc I love Gwendolyne Christie, but a comic accurate Lucifer ONCE would have been nice. At least, it's not Tom Ellis. The man gave me the creeps.
I'd be excited - IF there is a season 2 - to see more family members. Especially Delirium holds a place in my heart that's very dear to me. I want more of Despair, I want Destruction (even though I know Brief Lifes is definitely not season 2 material when there's Seasons of Mist and A Game of you and all that...) and I want awkward, stupid family diners.
So over all, I rate Sandman a solid 6.5/10 depressed Dreams. I had fun. It felt familiar. But it wasn't "show me your dreams and I'll show you horror in a handful of dust". But maybe, that's okay.
Tom Surridge speaks in black speech bubbles. I just have to mention that.

Just so you all know... Last week at the concert of lord of the lost I fell so hard for that band all over again... And I am so, SO happy I found my love for them again.
The first time I heard of them was in 2016, I quickly became their fan, saw them live in October 2018 (ended up in their tour vlog with one of the members...) and had one of the best concerts of my life – I'd say it's in my top 3 of all concerts I ever saw.
I think around 2020 i kinda stopped really caring about them and just had some situations that made me feel a little "meh" about them (nothing bad or anything just at that time it bothered me). I didn't care about the records they released because whenever I heard tiny bits of new songs I didn't like them and went on to something else.
Then a few months ago I saw that they'd play close to where I live and kinda wanted to go see them but also figured it wouldn't make sense since I didn't listen to their new stuff...
Long story short, took me weeks, maybe months to decide I wanted to go, I started listening to their latest record and literally the day before/of the concert I went "oh 👀" at some of the songs after listening to the record a few times.
I only started getting really excited once I was inside of the venue, first row, and realized that it was 2018 all over again somehow. Even one of the opening acts was the same. And when the main act got on stage they just kinda knocked me of my feet and showed me why exactly I fell in love with this band 6 years ago.
I enjoyed being there so much. Seeing them again and seeing how much they've grown since the last time I saw them (there were like 200 maybe 300 people there in 2018, same venue 4 years later, around 750 people) was exciting and I hope I'll stick around for some more years to maybe see them fill that venue next time :D 🖤
There will be a concert report for this one once I find time and the right mindset for it but...it was amazing and a lot of things happened and I need to scream about them but that's for another time ^-^
Yours sincerely
The idiot that "gave her heart to the Lord of the Lost" (to basically quote their song credo 💞) 🖤🥰

I know I say every year flies by really fast, but 2023 has been one of those years that's felt like it lasted forever. When I was looking back at pictures of what happened in January and May, I couldn't believe those both happened this year.
My plan from the start was for 2023 to be like a soft year off. I wanted to maintain my career while placing a light emphasis on health and real world/self improvement education. I wasn't looking for a lot of change, and on paper, this year should have been great since a lot of positive things happened for my family.
However, when I really think about it, I spent a good chunk of this year not at my best. I had a pretty bad neck injury in May that I still haven't fully recovered from, and emotionally I've had to step out of my comfort zone to make room for a special person. On top of that, I haven't had the time like past years to keep up with kpop. I've really leaned on kpop during my first six adult years so I can really feel my anchor being gone.
Something that really stands out for me in 2023 is the lack of that one magical special moment. So far, they've been
2017 - the moment I clicked on my first GFriend b-side (Neverland)
2018 - Nagyung's 반반 hair reveal at KCON Thailand
2019 - getting a selfie with Hayoung at Washington Square Park
2020 - the release of the Feel Good mv after 15 months
2021 - standing atop Namsan tower during my first Korea trip
2022 - Nakyung's shh to open Hush Hush during the first concert day + the Stay This Way fanchant on the last concert day
2023 - ???
so they're all kpop related. I really just don't have a single moment this year where all my emotions pour out again. That probably leaves my year ranking at
2018 > 2019 > 2021 > 2017 > 2022 > 2023 > 2020
Not everything was bad: I still learned a ton about a lot of random things (sports, politics, history), improved my social skills, *worked on* my emotional maturity, and got physically stronger. If this is considered one of my worse years, I'll consider myself lucky.
Minor kpop dump:
Song of the year: 눈맞춤 - 프로미스나인 (fromis_9) [#menow was good too but I like 눈맞춤 more)
Album of the year: EXIST - EXO
Top 5 b-sides of the year:
What I Want - 프로미스나인 (fromis_9)
OMG - NewJeans (뉴진스)
One Kiss - Red Velvet (레드벨벳)
Lucky Star - NiziU (니쥬)
Oh Ma Ma God - EVERGLOW (에버글로우)
Seasonal songs:
겨울: Sugar Rush Ride - TXT (투모로우바이투게더)
봄: WHY - Kep1er (케플러)
여름: 여름이 들려 (Summer Comes) - 오마이걸 (OH MY GIRL)
가을: 7HEAVEN - 퍼플키스(PURPLE KISS)
Current top 5 DDR songs (song + chart combo)
Ace for Aces
Possession (20th Anniversary Mix)
Gerbera
London EVOLVED ver. C
mathematical good-bye

I really coasted throughout 2023 (+ the second half of 2022), so I want to put my foot on the gas a little more next year. It's time to get back to growing my career, improving my health, and applying that conscious effort towards my personal goals.
24 is my favorite number, so I hope it's gonna be my favorite year too. :)

#7 december 2023
hola !!!
I hope you're well (as well as possible, we won't ask for more won't we?)
I'm feeling really well, and that makes me super happy. October and November were full of work and stress (both good and bad stress) and I was a little bit scared of December: I was afraid of stopping, not having more concerts before me and thus having more time to THINK ! hahaha. But fortunately it felt good to stop. I have the feeling that I'm enjoying my concerts with hindsight: I'm enjoying these autumn months now, feeling proud and lucky of what I've done.
Once more, I perceive that when I stop I can become aware of how fast we all want things to develop and bloom. I also realized that I'm in a rush when it comes to feeling sure and convinced of the decisions I make within my project.
This autumn I've played a whole lot; almost every weekend I had 1 or 2 (or 3!) gigs. In the process I felt accompanied by this rush: this need of things turning out fantastically and living my career fully convinced, feeling certain that my work is valuable. Now that I've stopped I clearly see the value is and has always been there intrinsically; the things I'm doing are beautiful and valuable for themselves, regardless of the places they will potentially take me. I can see it clearly now: I stare at the intense blue of the Barcelona sky and think: if I die tomorrow I will be at peace........ I have expressed everything I carry inside, I feel so full !

november 2023 – with Artur's telecaster in Sevilla (photo: Dani Poveda)
On the 24th of november I went to Sevilla to play for the first time. It was a last-minute thing; turns out VIDA festival was setting up a showcase and Clara Peya couldn't play, so I went there to fill in her slot lol. Had I known some years ago that I'd be covering Clara on a line-up........... crazy. I'm so glad I took the chance because I had so much fun. I spent a lot of hours in the high-speed train (which I love) and I could go sightseeing with Artur and Biel and Oscar and Gerard and Ferran (socunbohemio). I shared a room with Carla from VIDA's record label and she was really warm and welcoming. It was like a little autumn-camp experience; I could also see my cousin from Sevilla :-) during the concert I felt really really happy; my songs were floating away from me on their own, I felt really privileged to be playing so far away from home and I could float along (and that's hard !!).
On the next day we were playing in Reus with Paula Jordi and Marcel (my band) and it was real fun in spite of my tiredness state haha. We had a wonderful dinner in an ateneu, and I met Greg who drew us (what a talented person). I also met a kid (I forgot their name nooooo) who came by to tell me we sound much better that the tyets (they're the most popular catalan band at the moment). I had such a laugh, I love to know how kids perceive my music. That night I could also talk to a couple who were seeing us live for the second time; they'd come to Altacustic in summer 2022, and they'd been waiting for us to play around again because they wanted to repeat. Things like that make me want to sing on and on til I'm old and leave the planet.
The last concert of the weekend was in the Jazz Cava in Vic. During that concert I could fly, I dunno how I did it. I was able to put the focus in my music so much that it felt like the concert was 1 minute long. In the middle of the set I asked the public "how are you doing?" and someone said: we're in your magic bubble. And that made me really happy........ when I grow up I just want to create bubbles.
On the 30th of november we finished the tour in Heliogàbal, here in Barcelona. That day I had more difficulties to sing inside the bubble, I was really nervous and we had problems during the soundcheck so I wasn't fully comfy. I could't find the space in my throat, I was finding it difficult to sing because of the mix of emotions... but we carried on and it went well. The room was full of friends and also LOTS of strangers which fills my heart in so many ways... I loved that Patricia Atzur opened the set; it felt special to have someone supporting me. I don't know... to think of the packed room, hearing you sing my songs.... it makes me want to express myself more and more. It makes me think maybe I'm not the only one who feels moved by my songs !
That night I was given a song in a cd as a present... I will never forget it. No one had ever written a song for me before (not that I know!) and receiving it on such a special day makes it memorable. I'm used to writing songs but not to receiving them !!! it's such a big thing and such a valuable gift that I needed to finish my letter sharing it with you.
I hope 2024 brings plenty of good things to all of us; health above everything else. I'm so happy to say I'm feeling great. Sending you hugs and hoping to see you next year. Thousands of kisses.
Carlota

It's been hard to draw lately.
I just came from my first year getting to study in the field I've always dreamed of. It was amazing. I won't say I loved every second, but I will say I would do almost everything all over again given the chance. There would be a few obvious changes, but I'm glad it was as great as it was.
I'm learning how to be an animator and a better artist.
Part of that is actually doing the things.
Lately though instead of doing alllllllll the things, as my friends and family would say, I've been doing a lot, just, not a lot of what I hoped to be doing.
That's something I've noticed happens between busy periods. They're still busy, but in a different way. During the busy period I'm wall to wall booked with different kinds of work, but I'm squeezing in my own things anywhere I can fit them; I'm doodling during lectures or before different events, I'm starting comics on weekends, I'm writing in the middle of the night because I can't stop thinking about an idea.
Then the time that's supposed to be a break rolls around and it's weird. It doesn't feel like a break because I'm still running all over creation going to a heck ton of events and spending time with people I don't get to see as much when I'm working. During this time I still have a million things on my mind, but by the time I'm sat down to do them, all I want to do is scroll on here, watch YouTube, or- I was gonna say fall asleep, but it's been the opposite really, the middle of the night is the time I don't have any people wanting my attention. There are a few who do, but not in a way that can't wait till morning. So that last point on the list would be playing videogames, mainly Minecraft.
There's this illusion of sooo much time, and yet it's still full in the same way with something different, but instead of squishing in creative stuff whenever I get a chance it's just consuming things other people have had to say or make. By itself that's not a bad thing. Ideas don't come from a vacuum and I'm alright with the amount of reading I've done this summer too, but instead of looking for art that I enjoy I feel like I also should be making some which I haven't been doing nearly as much if at all.
The other day I was at a table with my dad, a family friend of his, and some strangers (who were fine until I learned a little more about them, yeesh). Anyway, I was at this table with them and there's this girl next to me probably closeish to my age, but I... maybe I should have talked to her. I didn't really want to talk to anyone there so I pulled out my sketchbook and started drawing since I had been having trouble getting myself to do that and the amount of background noise was kinda nice. We were in the middle of an outdoor restaurant with a concert nearby so a lot of noise which was perfect, never really liked when it was too quiet. Heck! My ears finally stopped ringing when I went to live in a bigger city for a little bit with MORE noise!
So I'm sitting there doodling and I just start drawing hands. Mostly my own, but any I can see. I start out realistic, get kinda, annoyed, then make them more cartoonish. I... enjoyed doing that. I liked doing that a lot. So why then whenever I sit down with the intention to do something similar all I want to do is let my brain shut down?
I like things that make my think, but it's also nice to just zonk out for a bit. There's a million things I want to do, I just need to get myself to do them.
Gotta find a better balance.

Anthony’s Stupid Daily Blog (470): Fri 30th Jun 2023
34 years old. Holy titty bollocks how did this happen? Feels like only yesterday when I was at school…actually that was yesterday because I snuck back into my old school to smear dog shit all over my old history teachers classroom wall to get back at him for the time that he shouted at me in front of the entire class…even though said history teacher doesn’t work there anymore…and died seven years ago…but I digress. I was a bit kissed off because I still had to go into work today which is b-to-the-ullshit! Everyone should get their birthday off even if it’s a surgeon who’s the only person in the world capable of performing a life saving operation on a small child and who lives in a flat over the road from the hospital, that guy should still get the day off. Luckily the day went by quite quickly and without incident so I can’t really complain. Plus I got a lot of nice birthday messages on my Facebook and Instagram except the one my old nemesis Kevin Craggs keeps sending me every year and every year I have to explain to him that there is no such thing as a “birthday dick pic”. Just because you’ve written “Happy Birthday Anthony” on your penis doesn’t make it any less of a sex crime (well I assume that’s what he was trying to write in his cock but because it’s so tiny he ran out of room after “Hap”. Wow thirty four whole years old. When I turned 28 I officially outlived Jim Morrison and now at 34 I have outlived Jesus. The next milestone won’t be until I hit 68 when I will have outlived both Jim Morrison and Jesus put together. Thirty three wasn’t a bad old year: I started my favourite every job, went to LA, WrestleMania and saw the LA Lakers. Despite it being a very good year it was also a very shit year too, mainly due to the cold weather and my sheer laziness and lack of willingness to pursue new hobbies. I plan on rectifying both these things in the next year however. When the shitty weather comes around again I’m going to try and get away to somewhere nice and sunny. Also the fact that I’ve started taking anti anxiety drugs means that hopefully I should have more enthusiasm and desire to try new things and not sit around watching the same YouTube videos all the time. Year 33 will be hard to top but tomorrow I’m going to London to see Iggy Pop, then in a few weeks I will be taking my annual trip to the Edinburgh Festival, then back to London for the Devo concert with my good old Dad and finally back to London one last time to attend AEW All In! I’m about to play with fire right now because any time I write about targets I want to set myself for the forthcoming year I normally fail spectacular but who know maybe this year I’ll succeed. To be honest the two main things on my mind that NEED to be completed this year are to get down to 12 stone and to finish reading the remaining winners of the Edgar Award for best novel. As long as I manage to tick those off the bucket list I’ll already consider year 34 well spent before it’s even over. If I had to select one big item on the list that I hope to be crossed off it would be to go to the Royal Rumble but as of this moment it’s unknown where the show will be taking place but it would be ideal for me if they held it in New Orleans because I’ve always wanted to go there too. Year 33 you were great but I know I can do better. Year 34: Let’s rock!
