going to ask if i can repaint my room for my birthday lol im scareddd i think im going to get berated bc i got to choose what colour i wanted it painted when we moved here 2.5 years ago but ive hated it ever since i moved in ive regretted it from the very start... if i am going to be living in this room for the whole summer i at least want it to be a colour that doesnt depress me

#its like a dusty sage green which is a colour i really like! it just really doesn't work in my room.. if it was just an accent wall i think #it would be fine but on all 4 walls its so suffocating and my room gets no sunlight so it always feels really grey and drab the colour is #just not bright enough...#& also i have a green rug and green bedding (both of which i love so theyre staying it's the walls that need to go) so it's just too much #green it feels so weird and unbalanced #i think i want just plain white walls & then theres a really thick trim between the ceiling and walls which i want to be a deep dusty pink?#but i have to think about it more. and find out if my mother will actually let me lol

took screencaps of the spawn romance scene the other day and I particularly like these two … mostly the colours and how shri’iia’s skin glows and looks more alive under the moonlight 🤭🥰

#her hair too… looks like it’s glowing a shade of light blue ..!!#anyway that’s a specific thing I like whenever I draw them ^ since their color palettes are so similar with each other #but the hues are different. astarion’s skin is more pallid with blue/violet undertones bc he’s undead #and the colours on his skin (like cheeks) are artificial/with makeup to make him look more alive. like his skin has a greyish hue #and his hair too.. it’s a greyish white as opposed to shri’iia who has grey skin but hers is just more vibrant and flushed #with blue and purple undertones and under specific (underdark) lighting or even with faerie fire she kind of looks like she glows #like her skin taking in underdark lighting well 🤭 and her hair I actually made her highlights like blue #so in darker lightings it looks like it’s glowing that shade… anyway she def has light blue strands mixed in with the white #her hues is very reminiscent of the underbellies of those glow in the dark mushrooms #whereas he’s very desaturated bc he’s a corpse. but for ascended astarion/spawn shri’iia it’s reversed bc he’s now the one who’s alive and #she’s dead lol. anyway I’ve just been colouring screencaps bc I like seeing the colour differences 🥰 I need to finish more wips of them but #I never get to the coloring stage smh #shut up about bg3.#bg3 spoilers

Any tips on learning to make buttonholes? I've been putting it off for.... *checks notes* like three years.... but better late than never and all that. I don't have any fancy machines so I gotta do it by hand but that seems right up your alley.

It IS up my alley, yes, I do most of my buttonholes by hand!

I'm actually part way through filming an 18th century buttonhole tutorial, but I expect it'll be a few more weeks before I finish that and put it on the youtubes, so in the meantime here's the very very short version. (The long version is looking like it'll probably be about 40 minutes maybe, judging by how much script I've written compared to my last video?)

Mark your line, a bit longer than your button is wide. I usually use a graphite mechanical pencil on light fabrics, and a light coloured pencil crayon on dark ones. (I have fabric pencils too, but they're much softer and leave a thicker line.) You may want to baste the layers together around all the marked buttonholes if you're working on something big and the layers are shifty and slippery. I'm not basting here because this is just a pants placket.

Do a little running stitch (or perhaps a running backstitch) in fine thread around the line at the width you want the finished buttonhole to be. This holds the layers of fabric together and acts as a nice little guide for when you do the buttonhole stitches.

Cut along the marked line using a buttonhole cutter, or a woodworking chisel. Glossy magazines are the best surface to put underneath your work as you push down, and you can give it a little tap with a rubber mallet if it's not going through all the way.

I'm aware that there are some people who cut their buttonholes open using seam rippers, and if any of them are reading this please know that that is abhorrent behaviour and I need you to stop it immediately. Stop it.

Go get a buttonhole cutter for 10 bucks and your life will be better for it. Or go to the nearest hardware store and get a little woodworking chisel. This includes machine buttonholes, use the buttonhole cutter on them too. If you continue to cut open buttonholes with a seam ripper after reading this you are personally responsible for at least 3 of the grey hairs on my head.

Do a whipstitch around the cut edges, to help prevent fraying while you work and to keep all those threads out of the way. (For my everyday shirts I usually do a machine buttonhole instead of this step, and then just hand stitch over it, because it's a bit faster and a lot sturdier on the thin fabrics.)

I like to mark out my button locations at this point, because I can mark them through the holes without the buttonhole stitches getting in the way.

For the actual buttonhole stitches it's really nice if you have silk buttonhole twist, but I usually use those little balls of DMC cotton pearl/perle because it's cheap and a good weight. NOT stranded embroidery floss, no separate strands! It's got to be one smooth twisted thing!

Here's a comparison pic between silk buttonhole twist (left) and cotton pearl (right). Both can make nice looking buttonholes, but the silk is a bit nicer to work with and the knots line up more smoothly.

I've actually only used the silk for one garment ever, but am going to try to do it more often on my nicer things. I find the cotton holds up well enough to daily wear though, despite being not ideal. The buttonholes are never the first part of my garments to wear out.

I cut a piece of about one arm's length more or less, depending on the size of buttonhole. For any hole longer than about 4cm I use 2 threads, one to do each side, because the end gets very frayed and scruffy by the time you've put it through the fabric that many times.

I wax about 2cm of the tip (Not the entire thread. I wax the outlining/overcasting thread but not the buttonhole thread itself.) to make it stick in the fabric better when I start off the thread. I don't tend to tie it, I just do a couple of stabstitches or backstitches and it holds well. (I'm generally very thorough with tying off my threads when it comes to hand sewing, but a buttonhole is basically a long row of knots, so it's pretty sturdy.)

Put the needle through underneath, with the tip coming up right along that little outline you sewed earlier. And I personally like to take the ends that are already in my hand and wrap them around the tip of the needle like so, but a lot of people loop the other end up around the other way, so here's a link to a buttonhole video with that method. Try both and see which one you prefer, the resulting knot is the same either way.

Sometimes I can pull the thread from the end near the needle and have the stitch look nice, but often I grab it closer to the base and give it a little wiggle to nestle it into place. This is more necessary with the cotton than it is with the silk.

The knot should be on top of the cut edge of the fabric, not in front of it.

You can put your stitches further apart than I do if you want, they'll still work if they've got little gaps in between them.

Keep going up that edge and when you get to the end you can either flip immediately to the other side and start back down again, or you can do a bar tack. (You can also fan out the stitches around the end if you want, but I don't like to anymore because I think the rectangular ends look nicer.)

Here's a bar tack vs. no bar tack sample. They just make it look more sharp, and they reinforce the ends.

For a bar tack do a few long stitches across the entire end.

And then do buttonhole stitches on top of those long stitches. I also like to snag a tiny bit of the fabric underneath.

Then stick the needle down into the fabric right where you ended that last stitch on the corner of the bar tack, so you don't pull that corner out of shape, and then just go back to making buttonhole stitches down the other side.

Then do the second bar tack once you get back to the end.

To finish off my thread I make it sticky with a bit more beeswax, waxing it as close to the fabric as I can get, and then bring it through to the back and pull it underneath the stitches down one side and trim it off.

In my experience it stays put perfectly well this way without tying it off.

Voila! An beautiful buttonholes!

If you want keyhole ones you can clip or punch a little rounded bit at one end of the cut and fan your stitches out around that and only do the bar tack at one end, like I did on my 1830's dressing gown.

(I won't do that style in my video though, because they're not 18th century.)

Do samples before doing them on a garment! Do as many practice ones as you need to, it takes a while for them to get good! Mine did not look this nice 10 years ago.

Your first one will probably look pretty bad, but your hundredth will be much better!

Familiar Faces

Summary: How would Adam and Lute react to seeing a Fallen Angel back in Heaven?

A/N: I know we technically already saw this when Charlie and Vaggie came up to Heaven but this time I want to do it with someone who may have meant a bit more to the both of them.

When Charlie first told you she wanted you to come to Heaven with her you outright laughed in her face. You, a known Fallen Angel, go to Heaven? The idea was just as laughable as it was dumb.

Then Charlie actually took you to Heaven. In the few seconds you thought it was wise to laugh at Vaggie's dismay of being pushed into the weird swirly portal, a tight hand had wrapped itself around your upper arm. With a harsh tug, you were suffering the same fate as Vaggie.

Just like you had many years ago, you were faced with the bright colours of Heaven.

Fortunately, you weren't left alone with Charlie and Vaggie for long as two of the Seraphims came to join you, leading you around Heaven. Of course, in these moments Charlie could hardly contain herself, ready to rush off to explore or point out something that you and Vaggie had seen countless times.

All in all, it was rather peaceful being back in Heaven. Seeing some of the old buildings or community areas that you had spent so many years in was almost refreshing; given the harsh contrast that Hell was compared to all this. You didn't outwardly express any of this though. Keeping your arms crossed or firmly placed on your hips.

But with Heaven's dwindled population, it wasn't hard to run into people you knew. So when the familiar colour pallet of gold, white, grey and black showed up in the corner of your vision, you couldn't help but try and nestle your way in between Charlie and Vaggie to try and slip past their vision.

Alas, your efforts were for nothing.

With a booming voice, Adam yelled to get your attention as well as everyone around you. What you would've done to be in Vaggie's place and simply ignored with nothing but else but a shifty side glance.

"If it isn't my favourite ex-angel!"

Even though all the attention was on you, you couldn't help but try and slip away from the limelight. With a quick hand though, you were pulled into Adam's side in a tight sidehug.

It would only be when you're tightly tapped at Adam's side, his nails digging into your arm while Lute flocked to your other side, staring over at you with a carefully blank expression that Adam would hiss into your ear. "Who let you back in here?"

"Wait, you two know each other?" Charlie would exclaim, her eyes widening slightly with a glimmer of hope residing in them as a plan to get Adam and Lute on the Hazbin Hotel's side came to mind.

It was only when she noticed your deadpan stare, the way Adam's hand may have been gripped a little too tightly around your arm and how Lute seemed to be itching to get closer that perhaps she might have misjudged the relationship you had with the two prior to your fall.

Sera would have to cast Adam a raised brow for the guy to release you, no amount of struggling or shoving on your part goading him to release you.

That wouldn't be the end of it though. Like any good 'friends' seeing someone who had been cast out of Heaven in favour of rotting in Hell, Adam and Lute decide that there is no better way to spend their afternoon other than to follow you, Vaggie and the Princess of Hell around as you attend to business.

On numerous occasions, Adam would try to tug you in one direction or the other, prepared to run off with you whenever everyone's back was either turned on you or was preoccupied with something for the moment.

Each time ended in small little scruffles as you tried to push yourself away from Adam, not above trying to fight the First Man on Holy ground even if it meant being shot out of the sky again.

If he wasn't trying to steal you away from the group, Adam was making loud jokes, sometimes making you the butt of the joke while other times it was someone else. Normally it would be Vaggie but it was more likely you who he was laughing at. Recapping your graceful fall from Heaven or any other blunders he could think of.

Lute wasn't much better on her part.

Unlike Adam, whenever one of the Seraphins looked back to check on what was happening or Charalie and Vaggie got ready to jump in, she would be stood patiently waiting for the tour to continue once Adam's antics were dealt with.

—Except that one time she was caught cheering Adam on as he tried smoothing your head into the ground.

It didn’t even matter if the Seraphins or your friends were looking, Lute decided to make your trip to Heaven just as bad as you’d thought it would be by walking too close for comfort, making comments about previous exterminations that you had taken part in, trying to reminisce on activities you had taken up when in Heaven to try and kill boredom.

That was something that Hell was surprisingly better than Heaven at. There was never a dull day. Even if there was it would only take you a short commute from your hotel room to find either Angel Dust or Alastor for your boredom to be banished, the both of them entertaining enough in their own ways.

By the end of the little tour Heaven was providing Charlie, you were prepared to scream.

Vaggie did nothing but spare you a pitiful glance. At some point further down the line than you, she had been in the same boat, though now she was just glad it wasn’t her that had to deal with the antics of Adam and Lute.

So putting on a brace face, you reminded yourself it was only for the day, maybe only a few more hours. Before you knew it you would be back at the hotel and hiding away in your room, reading to stay there for the rest of the day and only crawl out when an essential was needed.

When that time finally came you pushed past any of the sinners who tried to greet you with a flash of your middle finger as you vanished from their sights, all of them turning to Charlie and Vaggie to find out what had happened.

Like Those Old Couples - LN

Summary: Lando's girlfriend sees a post about how an old couple make the effort to match outfits every day and so she feels inspired. Lando constantly pokes fun at her but when she decides to stop trying maybe he has a different attitude.

Slightly emotionally over-sensitive!reader only towards the end

Admittedly the first time y/n made the effort to match Lando it was by wearing an orange dress with a grey jacket. It sounds awful but there was no getting Lando's eyes off of her and when he ripped the dress off of her and left it on the bedroom floor there was no getting him off of her.

Then she continued, trying to buy him stuff that he'd like and that colour match her outfit. A couple times they had near identical outfits, and those were the moments Lando kind of melted because usually she'd steal something from his closet he had a duplicate of.

Nothing beats seeing her just wearing his clothes.

Today Lando chose a neutral outfit knowing y/n loves when he manages to pull together an outfit that fits her usual style.

"Hey, baby." Lando calls out making her appear from the bathroom putting an earring in. But what shocks Lando is her choice of a blue milk maid dress and white air forces. "Baby? I thought you wanted to match. Are we wearing blue today?"

"No. No. It's fine. I mean I know you think it's funny and allow me to go ahead. But honestly it's a lot of effort and I figure there's no point in doing it anymore if you don't care-which is fine, don't over think it. We can go back to not matching." Y/n smiles softly then sighing as she looks at him. "You do look great though."

"So do you. As always." Lando nods trying to ignore the disappointment in his chest as he watches her pick up a white bag.

"Alright, ready to go?" Y/n asks offering her hand to him and feeling his large hand capture her own. "It's a bit of a shame. Because this shade of blue would look stunning on you. It's like the blue that you have for the team."

It is, it's a really pretty blue that's not too bright but bright enough that it's so pretty. Everything about her is pretty. She makes that dress pretty, it's not the dress that makes her pretty.

Lando swallows thickly as he sees his life lasting forever with her by his side. They'll be an old couple together and they'll be together as long as it takes to end their lives as like those old couples who she admires so much.

Hiding his mood and how off he clearly feels doesn't work very well and it doesn't take long for y/n to try and address it while not being so direct.

The two of them are going on a double date with Max and P to a restaurant in London since they're back in England for just a couple days.

Lando continues to hid his disappointment since he has constantly been on y/n about it being so unnecessary that they always match. But now they don't he realises how much he looked forward to seeing how she'd manage to make them match.

F1 media and fans had actually started to closely document the couples constantly matching outfits over the past 4 months since that's how she'd managed to keep it up.

"What? What the fuck is this?" Pietra questions while Max laughs a little. "No. Don't laugh. The two of you have been matching outfits for months and you choose now to not match? Why do you hate us?"

"It was getting too much and Lando always thought it was too much. I think he might've been right." Y/n smiles before she walks ahead with Pietra and Max drops back with Lando.

"Why do you look so annoyed?" Max asks noticing his friend looking almost frustrated. "Ignore P. She just loves seeing how creative y/n could get."

"No. It's not that." Lando sighs shaking his head while Max raises an eyebrow. "Don't worry about it."

Max frowns but drops the matter. When Lando doesn't want to talk about something it's better to just let him come around to talking about it.

When they get back to Monaco, Lando gets himself back on Twitch.

"Lan-oh hey, stream." Y/n smiles interrupting it and realising he's live. "Sorry, I'll-"

"Some people are asking why you don't want to match anymore." Lando cuts in quickly making her frown since she didn't think it mattered that much.

"I actually kind of miss it already, but you didn't like it so I just figure no point in still forcing it." Y/n yawns as she moves up behind Lando playing with his hair while he frowns. "Anyway, I was just going to say. I'm running to the shop. Do you want me to grab anything?"

"Some snacks? Just surprise me." Lando shrugs then smiling as she hums and leans around kissing him softly before taking off. He waits till he hears the click of the door. "I miss the matching outfits too, guys. I might surprise her or something because she always sees these clips like 4 months after I've streamed."

As expected, y/n doesn't see the clip of Lando's stream where he says he misses the matching outfits. But after another week of no matching outfits. Lando decides to just admit it.

"Y/n, I can't do this. One of us has to change." Lando states suddenly making her jump from the sudden volume before frowning.

"Change what?"

"Clothes." Lando groans feeling nearly overwhelmed with how frustrated he feels as he shifts forward and sighs holding her waist as he looks at her directly. "Baby...I fucking loved matching with you. It was stupid, but it was the best thing of my day. Seeing you lay out something for me to wear when you wanted me to match you or seeing you find the most amazing outfits when you want to match me. I miss it. I loved it. I just want you to match me again. Please. I'll wear whatever you want."

Y/n looks stunned, completely caught off guard which tells him that she wasn't actually aiming for this outcome.

"I thought you didn't like it." Y/n murmurs suddenly near tears sending Lando into a panic, large hands cupping her face while she tries to stiffen her quivering lip.

"Baby no. No. Why would I not like it?"

"You just always sighed when I would change to match your outfit." Y/n pouts while Lando sighs knowing that on race days or race weekends he was sometimes tired or in a rush and the matching outfits were inconvenient.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I didn't mean it when I would sigh. It was just when I was tired and sometimes we needed to be somewhere, but I love matching with you, y/n, and I miss it."

"Why did you not tell me you liked it?"

"I didn't realise how happy it made me till you stopped." Lando admits making her sigh softly and smile at him trying to hide the pout that is in sympathy of his admission. "I love you and I love your fashion and I love when you help me dress better in a way that matches you perfectly. So can we start doing it again?"

"Yes. Since you asked so desperately." Y/n giggles before she sighs softly looking at his outfit. "I'll change. I've got something that will match with you."

Lando's sure his heart swells with joy over her statement. He just loves her so much.

The restoration of the matching outfits couldn't be kept to just them so Lando does manage to capture a selfie of their matching outfits. Announcing that the outfits are back and there to stay.

"I'm so glad that you said you want them back, because I have more ideas and more papaya outfits for when the season starts back up. I'm about to put the other WAGs to shame." Y/n beams as they walk out the apartment towards the garage that has Lando's multiple cars.

"They'll hate you." Lando jokes while y/n just grins unapologetic that she has gained a bit of a rep for being the best WAG purely for her clear adoration and support of her boyfriend along with giving constant canon shots of Lando who is always active in her comment section too.

Your apartment smells strangely like straw.

Spencer creeps inside quietly. It's five AM, too early for him to feel good about waking you up, but he hasn't seen you in eight long days, so he had to come over. He's hoping he can dump his stuff and slide into bed beside you without waking you, content to be close to you, assured that you're alright.

He shucks off his jacket and his bag of dirty clothes by the door and unlaces his shoes. Hand pressed to the wall, Spencer walks down the short hall, past your living room and kitchen, to your bedroom door.

"No, Doctor!" you say in a hushed shout from behind the door. "You can't eat that, that's one of his favourites. Woah, that tickles."

Honestly, the first thing Spencer thinks is that you've gotten so bored you've found yourself enacting odd role play. The second thing he thinks is that you've found someone to do it with, and he quickly backtracks the first thing. He doesn't like the sounds of it, but he can be into it if you're into it. Probably.

"Y/N?" he asks, pulling down the handle and opening the door.

You're sitting on the floor by your bed in strange attire. His t-shirt (that, while he appreciates the sentiment, does not fit you even slightly) under an old soft sweater with a huge hole in the collar. Black sweatpants, one sock, and a pair of white bunny ears perched in your hair.

"You're not supposed to be back until seven," you say, shocked.

"That was my seven, not your seven… Surprise?"

"Spence, I'd totally run at you right now, but," —you point at your lap— "I'm occupied."

Spencer is disappointed, doubly confused by what you're pointing at. The soft lump at your abdomen isn't your tummy after all, but a moving grey creature of the same colour.

"A rabbit?" he asks, eyes widening as the bunny in question nuzzles your sweater for petting.

"Doctor Bunny Reid," you say, avoiding Spencer's eyes, a sheepish tinge to your admission. "To be precise."

"Your sock?" he asks, moving down onto his knees adjacent to your own.

"He took it. I don't know where it went."

Spencer quirks a smile. "He's cute. I don't think I can compete, really."

You put your hand on the bunny's back and lean forward. "You compete," you say, pouting gently, "you're adorable."

His smile turns to pleased surprise as you kiss him. Twice in quick succession, before you arm curls behind his back for a loose hug over your new pet.

Spencer breathes in your smell. Or, attempts to. "The hay and ammonia is a lot."

"I know. I'll figure it out, I promise… I missed you, Spence."

"I can sort of tell." Spencer isn't sure he needs to be a profiler to realise that adopting a bunny and naming it after him while he was gone is the sort of thing only a very lonely person would do. "How's he so calm?"

"He's, um, four years old, he's used to handling. I got him at the pound. His owner died last week."

"You have all the stuff for him?"

"Of course I do," you say, leaning back to meet his eyes. "I didn't mean to get him just 'cos I was lonely, I promise I actually read up on it before I decided. He's handsome, isn't he? You wanna feel how silky his ears are?"

Spencer doesn't doubt you care, or that you're responsible, he's just surprised. You hadn't mentioned wanting a rabbit before. Petting the rabbits ears softly, he asks, "You know they live for eight to twelve years? Sometimes longer? The oldest rabbit ever documented was eighteen years old."

You frown. "I know, Spence, it's a commitment. I should've asked you first, but I–"

"No, I mean. It's not about that, I hope we get longer than eighteen years together. But are you sure Doctor Bunny Reid is the name you want to choose?"

Your face floods with relief. "Well, his real name was Mr. Patterson. Which one do you like better?"

The bunny has enough of your lap, hopping down onto the floor and bolting for what appears to be a big wooden house you've set up for him. There are black partitions for an enclosure leaned up against the wall. Spencer can guess exactly how he'll be spending the day, and it involves less cuddling than he thought.

Spencer takes your empty lap as an opportunity to hug you again, a protective hand cupped behind your head. "Definitely Mr. Patterson," he says, resting his nose against your cheek.

You laugh infectiously, leaning back under his weight.

"I missed you. I'm glad to be home," he murmurs.

You hug him tighter. "I missed you, too."

another one of these posts lol... sketches vs final. not much changed for these ones, i kind of went into them with a very solid mental image already in my head. all of these were done start to finish in procreate

thoughts below the cut

horse fight .... this is based off a really really beautiful sky i saw while driving home one evening. i'm really proud of getting the colours i saw exactly right, this kind of greenish yellow fading to dark blue and with grey clouds low over it that looked very dark against the yellow by the horizon, but very pale against the dark blue.

i thought it would be a cool backdrop to draw a scene i've been thinking about for a while. The little cartoony horses are there to provide some tonal whiplash but also because these are two immortal shapeshifters who can fight violently without it being a huge deal. the little horses represent the actual gravity of the fight (that is, kind of a slap fight between two drama queens) which contrasts with the visuals of two animals brutally tearing at eachother. also i got the two horses at the bottom mixed up, Pascal is the one with the skinny plumed tail and Macha has a more traditional horse tail and i put them on the wrong sides.

i had a LOT of trouble shading this. i didn't want the horses to be too shiny but that meant a much lower contrast in shading and even with my screen brightness turned up i could barely see what i was doing. but i wanted it to read as realistic. mixed results i think. if i did it again i might try a different shading style because this one didn't really do it for me

spooky van!!! the post i deleted by accident (rip. i will repost it soon). this is a picture of the barrow (the field) taking a different shape - in this case a cool van. the van contains every single thing the field does (including the human victims that get lost in there...) but compressed down into a manageable shape. the void is Pascal because the field is inside him. he did this for his human bf to provide novel way to travel through the Otherworld. don't ask how this works like, spatially, because the answer is: i don't do hard magic systems in this setting

i loooove shading things with pencil hatching and i really like contrasting it with smooth colours/shading so that's mainly what i did here. it was simple enough. the van is of course heavily referenced and i wish i had been able to stylise it a little more.. maybe next time. i want to draw a kind of cutaway illustration of the van showing exterior and interior (like an old blueprint schematic), which i might use as a cover for the book/comic/whatever but that will require a very intimidating level of precision so i think i'll work up to that.

RUA magazine. this is my third time doing a rua magazine cover (first time posting tho). this is an in-universe magazine distributed throughout the Otherworld to an audience of fairies. in the sketch, the illustation was originally the King of Pentacles tarot card (the pentacle being the disco ball). but i decided to make a different King of Pentacles card for him instead, since I try hard to move away from symmetrical composition for the tarot cards (it's boring). so i repurposed this one into another magazine cover. like i said Pascal is a self-absorbed attention whore and has a habit of giving bullshit interviews just so that he can be on the cover as much as possible. he dresses like this all the time (the year is 2017)

the disco ball took 15 years off my life and it's not even the first disco ball i've drawn! i finished my actual king of pentacles card before i finished the rua cover sketch, so i can show u this

which is much better even if i did reference so heavily that it isn't exactly stylised. but this card needs some serious revision before i even think about posting it. i'm just not happy with his face.

original intent was for it be mysterious with emphasis on the neon lights but it ended up far more suggestive than i expected. that's life!

I FIGURED OUT A WAY TO FUCKING MAKE THE IMAGE SMALLER FOR POSTING ON TUMBLR WITHOUT SACRIFICING THE ACTUAL QUALITY OF THE IMAGE OH MY GOD

Ok so, what I did is go into the clip studio paint file, make a new file, copy and paste the group in the original file, merge everything, get rid of the extra stuff outside of the canvas, and then make the flattened image smaller and crop the canvas. Once you have that, export it and you're done. This helps maintain the actual quality of the image and also helps shrink the file size down to something actually postable (if anyone has a better way of doing this please tell me)

[Edit]: Ok I guess posting something to Tumblr just naturally compresses the image a bit more somehow because I'm looking at it now and zooming in too much makes it a bit blurry so I'm still gonna have to futz around with image quality for future pieces oof

I'm so glad I figured out a way to do this because I like working on a big canvas so I can get as much detail in as I possibly can. Only problems are how laggy it gets while drawing lol.

I had an idea for a drawing with Reimu and Zanmu because I really like thinking about their potential dynamic a lot. I also wanted an excuse to draw Zanmu again but in my normal rendering style because last time I drew her she was in my more sketchy style with generally flat colours so I wanted to draw her again. Speaking of, looking at the sketch for this is a jumpscare that I never enjoy seeing, like, man am I glad I didn't use those for my final piece.

Also about her spear. I was originally gonna make it like the ones she had in game, but it kinda threw off the whole piece. It was too big, too blue, and too flat, so I just went "fuck it" and gave her a different one instead. My headcanon justifying this is that the ones she uses in game are for danmaku battles whereas in any other fight she just uses a proper yari, or she still uses the yari and just makes it all glowy to power it up, maybe both lol. I pulled as much inspiration as I could from Sengoku era spears, and even put in some blue into the decorative part of the spear and also added a little skull to pay tribute to the original spear. Also, in my research I saw some art of izanami and izanagi making japan and saw that the yari izanagi has had a little decorative tassley thingy on it so I took some inspo from that and just made it one of Zanmu's tassles (Idk when that art was from or if the spear was still accurate to Sengoku period Japan but hey, probably the same reasons Eirin puts little bow ties on her arrows, it's just for personalization purposes).

I love rendering hair and clothes so much omg, while I like the super curly hair Zanmu, the longer, wavier hair suits her better for this drawing (I imagine it only does that like how Ghibli characters hair moves when they feel angry lol). I love making Zanmu's hair all messy and crazy, as well as giving her grey hairs, this woman has aged like a fine wine. Also, if the hem on the ends of her sleeves, top of her shirt, and her pants look like gold to you, that's because it is! It's fairly light so she's not collapsing under the weight, but it's gold! (I don't care how impractical it is, it's just cool). Not the undershirt though, it's made of a gold fabric. I had a cute idea with Reimu's hair to make it have a red shine to it. I also changed up Reimu's outfit so it isn't just a blob of red. I like it a lot when Reimu's skirt and outfit is segmented into different layers, so I wanted to incorporate that.

I tried to draw their hands differently as well, but IDK how noticeable that is. Also, I am super happy with how the side profiles for the two of them turned out, I used to struggle a lot with how to make the side profile of a character actually look like the character, so I'm really happy that they actually look like themselves.

Also added in the tree and rocks in the background as an homage to Zanmu's character art in Touhou 19, just because I was getting kinda stumped on what to do with the background lol.

In terms of a story idea with Reimu and Zanmu, idk why but the potential plotline of Zanmu wanting to ascend to godhood is so fascinating to me. Like, it is very possible that if she just convinced everyone she was a god (which would be very easy for her to do), she would become one in a heartbeat. Also, if she were to become a god, with her ability to return stuff to nothing, could she hypothetically get similar abilities to (Jojo Part 5 spoiler btw) GER? Like, idk about the death timeloop stuff, but the concept has been haunting me every night as I have been trying to find loopholes in GER's ability for a while now ( for no reason in particular). Back to the main topic, I imagine that she would probably tell Reimu that if she were to become a god she would take over the Hakurei shrine since the god there might as well be dead, and Reimu just says to her, "Over my dead body bitch." Like, I have no idea how to summarize their dynamic but like, it's the type of hero-villain dynamic where the phrase "We're not so different, you and I" would definitely be a phrase said during a fight. I think that if another IN style game were to release, Reimu and Zanmu would be in a team together. They could also have an interesting mentor and pupil kind of dynamic. Can you tell that Zanmu has been charging my mind rent these part few months? Like, instead of living in my head rent free, she kinda just uno reversed the whole situation and now she's the one charging me rent. What happens if I get evicted from my own brain? Actually, scratch that, I don't think I wanna know.
