The right to bodily integrity, like all human rights, is non negotiable.

It cannot be applied just in-part, or in some areas, or to only certain members of society.

It cannot be superseded by any religious faith, nor by the wish of a parent, women’s preferences, or by cultural expectations.

The right to one’s body, belongs to the individual.

No “ifs” or “buts”, no asterisks, and no compromises.

Much of the modern world has come to understand this when it comes to girls’ bodies, as FGM continues to be criminalised and rightly punished, falling out of favour, and slowly into the history books.

In most countries FGM is universally illegal, no matter the extent, or context.

Even just a prick is forbidden, because really, the extent of violation needn’t matter, if that procedure is being done on an unconsenting baby.

But not for boy babies.

And I don’t care what people say about circumcision’s so-called “medical or hygienic benefits”, because the medical benefits are virtually non-existent, and we don’t cut off body parts to avoid cleaning them.

Do we cut off our head to stop us getting dandruff?

What about lopping off our feet to rid the world of athletes’ foot?

I mean, why not go the whole way, and cut off the whole penis, if you’re not a fan of cleaning it?

The fact is, there are very few good enough reasons to remove half the nerve endings of a baby boy’s penis, as well as its most sensitive parts.

There is no reason to subject a boy to the risk of erectile dysfunction, desensitisation, PTSD, sexually transmitted disease, or even death…

No reason to tie a baby boy’s limbs down, and as he screams, slice away at his penis, without anaesthesia.

Nobody’s first few days of life should be welcomed by that, and no journey of parenthood should begin with child abuse.

So when will we treat circumcision with the same universality as FGM, where we say “no”, regardless of the severity, scale, or context?

When will a boys bodily integrity supersede religious faith?

When will we give our boys the same rights as girls?

When will we ban infant male circumcision?

Baby boys can and do succumb as a result of having their foreskin removed. Circumcision-related mortality rates are not known with certainty; this study estimates the scale of this problem. This study finds that approximately 117 neonatal circumcision-related deaths (9.01/100,000) occur annually in the United States, about 1.3% of male neonatal deaths from all causes. Because infant circumcision is elective, all of these deaths are avoidable. This study also identifies reasons why accurate data on these deaths are not available, some of the obstacles to preventing these deaths, and some solutions to overcome them.

Hey I was just wondering as a person with hyperandrogenism, could you elaborate more about people who take T to help with it? I want to transition at some point and I've been looking everywhere for information on what going on T would be like for somebody with PCOS.

*CLAPS* you came to the right blog and i'm SO GLAD I CAN HELP SOMEONE ELSE WITH THIS!!!!!

i was diagnosed with hyperandrogenism and PCOS at the age of 15 because i was having such heavy menstrual periods that i literally had to stay home from school because i had to change my pad every 45 minutes or so. they forced me on to hormonal birth control instead of presenting me with the option of testosterone hormone replacement therapy and to this day, i am angry at those doctors for not realizing they could've given me the choice, because they could've spared me from a lot of misery in my teen years.

i had been naturally growing a full beard with no outside help since i started puberty, and it was a nightmare for everyone BUT me because everyone else found it threatening. my mother made me put Nair on my face (that chemical stuff you use to burn the hair off your legs- no, you're not supposed to put it on your face and they did Not make the kind for your face back then.) to get rid of it because it freaked her out so bad, quote, "everyone will make fun of you and you'll get called a dyke and butch and a lezzie and a man and it'll be embarrassing, and then they'll think I'm all of those things, too." Mental gymnastics olympic gold winner, My Mom, everyone.

i wanted to just keep my facial hair, but my mother was obsessed with keeping me a Presentable Girl while everyone else in my school, once they saw the beard, went. oh, it's a guy. and interpreted me in the polar opposite direction. they started relentlessly telling me things like "you're not a girl" "you can't be a girl" "it doesn't matter if you carry a purse or wear makeup you're not a real girl" because they saw my life from the outside and were now under the impression that i was "a guy trying to be a girl," while my mom was trying to prevent me from being "a girl who everyone thinks is a guy".

needless to say, this caused a lot of frustration and confusion in me, because i just wanted to go with what my body was doing, and i found that i was naturally very masculine and butch and let me tell you, starting testosterone was incredible. it was like i picked up from where puberty left off! i finally felt myself evolving into who i was meant to be, i swear, because it felt like i was a half complete person until i started taking T.

my voice dropped very quickly, i was getting voice cracks and croaky tones very early on, within the first 3 months or so. my facial hair took a while for it to stop being patchy, while i was growing a full beard, my mustache was very thin, and there was some hair that didn't grow in small patches, probably due to the years of aggressive chemicals damaging my face. i started growing very thick, bushy, noticeable chest hair very quickly as well, as well as thickened and darkened arm, back and belly hair.

i was a greaseball for a while and that was somewhat unpleasant- i think for about a month after i started i was extremely greasy, i noticed this because i had already been working out at the gym beforehand and i was suddenly. very. sweaty and slimy all of a sudden. honestly it gave me euphoria when i realized it though because i went "oh my god... the T is working!!!" it's the little things that give you Masculine Joy

my face got very sharp and angular very quickly, my cheekbones became way more noticeable and my jaw became a lot more streamline and sharp. i used to have a somewhat round face but now i have barely any fat on my face at all. after a long time on T, my mustache finally grows in fully! though it's still kinda hard to see, but it finally isn't just in the corners of my lips <3

i did have a period of a few months in the beginning where i was very emotional, i wouldn't say i was simply JUST angry. i was more passionate than normal, and it was easy for me to laugh or cry really hard, or sometimes be more irritable than normal due to being more sensitive in general.

Bottom growth happened very quickly and intensely, ive been told by several transmasc partners that i'm one of the biggest they've been with, so i would say you're likely to get fairly substantial bottom growth if you have PCOS or hyperandrogenism. =) it seems that area really takes to the extra testosterone and goes nuts with it! be warned, it will be extremely extremely sensitive to touch while bottom growth is occurring, like even seams in your pants can be uncomfortable, so go easy on yourself. i have never dealt with vaginal dryness or atrophy, btw, so i can't comment on anything like that.

hope that gave you a picture of what it was like for me, personally =) every person w/ PCOS and hyperandrogenism is different, but i'm really glad i could help provide a resource that is difficult to find! for many of us, those of us who have naturally high testosterone love and WANT what it does to our body, and we should be able to get to control how much T goes on in our body- that includes getting the option to increase it.

Biography: They were born during a solar eclipse to a fairy advisor of King Oberon and a dark elf that lived deep in a subterranean cave. The dark elf didn’t trust the royalty in the faefolk kingdom and tried to raise them alone, teaching them valuable life lessons and showing them basic survival techniques. Their mother told them knowledgeable stories about the faefolk kingdom, the fairies, the light and dark elves, birds, insects, the sky, and heavenly bodies. When nearing their tween years, Queen Titania kidnapped them, leaving their mother to commit suicide out of grief and shame. Rhodopis was trained to be a fearsome killer, never having a normal childhood. Whenever they stepped out of line, they were whipped, assaulted, and aggressively ostracised by the knights and executioners as punishment. Their genitals were brutally mutilated and they would undergo meticulous experimentation in order to “perfect” them.

After many years of harsh training, they became a top tier assassin for the council of gods, especially for King Oberon and Queen Titania. They were responsible for assassinating and viciously torturing disobedient and treacherous supernatural beings (e.g. demons, dwarves, and demigods) and humans. As the most loyal servant and valuable asset of King Oberon’s regime, their golden blood was used to imbue each fresh apple from the royal orchard with rejuvenating properties. Rhodopis is on great terms with Demaryius and saw him as a very close friend rather than a potential lover compared to most deities and their servants. When they found out that he was betrayed and his creation was rudely taken away from him, they silently abandoned their duties. They let King Oberon, Queen Titania, and everyone associated with the royal faefolk family die from rapid aging in retaliation for Demaryius’ treatment. They were promoted by Demaryius as his hitman and bodyguard of Homeworld, ensuring that they aid in the safety of him and his children. Whenever they have free time, they’re a travelling merchant and vehemently attending to the apple orchard in Homeworld.

Fun facts:

It’s unknown why their skin alternates between a handful of colours, but it’s probably tied to their current emotional state. Emerald green means hopeful and forgiving, red ochre means passionate, brave, and angry, yellow-orange means enthusiastic and confident, blue-green means sorrowful, relaxed, and indifferent, and soft purple means ambitious, creative, and mysterious.

The skin on their caterpillar tail sheds its old skin near the middle of spring

They like to tangle the hair of sleepers into fairy-locks

They have a habit of licking their serpentine dagger

They’re not an official child of Demaryius, but he deems them as one of his own due to their extreme loyalty to him.

They view Demaryius as a kind-hearted individual who’s passionate about humanity despite some of their glaring flaws. They admire his protective nature and his willingness to teach his children to become strong people. However, they’re deeply worried about his suicidal tendencies and they hate it when he purposefully overworks himself. They would try to deter him from harming and exhausting himself whenever they’re not busy with their own duties.

Demaryius renamed them to Rhodopis because their eyes reminded him of delicate pink roses and he thought that the meaning behind their real name (Criafol means “lamenting fruit” in Welsh) was unfortunate.

They’re on very good terms with Sister Rosa due to their protective respect of Demaryius

They’re not the greatest with children due to how disturbing and uncomfortable their presence is, but Sister Rosa has taught them the basics of caregiving.

They help with teaching the older children of Demaryius how to wield swords and daggers, and shoot arrows with a bow.

Their kelpie friend is named Cáelfind who enjoys talking about the ocean with Rhodopis, early dawn strolls, and eating red grapes.

They sell items that range from utterly weird and disgusting to strangely pleasant and calming

The chelys was a benevolent gift from a young woman they saved during one of their last missions as the assassin of the council of gods. It was the young woman’s way of thanking them for saving her from her treacherous werewolf husband.

Whenever they’re not working, they’re either playing their chelys, taking a stroll through gloomy forests, or wood-carving with their ear dagger.

They named the chelys Lycaon

They named their flesh longsword Prometheus

They named their yew bow Yggdrasil

They named their ear dagger Rostam

They named their serpentine dagger Carnwennan

Their favourite entertainment consist of Shakespearean plays, classical music concerts, horse-racing events, cockfighting, short stories that contain elements from folklore and mythology, and fairy tales.

Gender-affirming surgeries tripled in the U.S. between 2016 and 2019

Stat reports on new national estimates from a cohort study in JAMA Network Open.

Some findings:

The number of gender-affirming surgeries taking place in the U.S. nearly tripled between 2016 and 2019.

Over 56% of all surgeries in the four-year period were breast and chest procedures. People ages 19-30 were the recipients of over half of all surgeries, while youths ages 12-18 made up a small portion at 7.7%.

During the four-year span, only 3,678 people ages 12-18 received any type of gender-affirming surgery. The vast majority — over 3,200 — were breast or chest surgeries. In four years, only 405 youths across the country received genital surgery.

“I do not know of a single patient who’s ever had any kind of genital surgery under the age of 18, of the hundreds, potentially thousands of kids that I’ve cared for,” said Katy Miller, the medical director of adolescent medicine at Children’s Minnesota. “So the idea that it’s easy to get gender-affirming surgery, I mean, any queer or trans person will tell you that’s simply not true.”

It is unclear what has caused the increase. Some point to increased awareness and support online, including more medical evidence regarding the safety and benefits of such surgeries. Some point to changes to insurance coverage of the care, others to an increase in trained professionals. Some even argue that many trans people are afraid such support will become unavailable in the future.

WPATH Removed Age Guidelines To Protect DOCTORS From Lawsuits

Earlier this year, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) updated their Standards of Care to the 8th edition, which caused considerable backlash when people discovered that it had lowered the minimum age recommendations across the board for puberty blockers, hormones, and surgeries. The new section read:

For cross-sex hormones, this represents a lowering of the minimum age from 16 to 14. The minimum age for double mastectomies has been lowered to 15, and for male minors seeking breast augmentation, WPATH now recommended 16 years old as the lower age limit, which is also the new age suggestion for facial surgeries and tracheal shaves. Genital surgeries, such as hysterectomy and vaginoplasty, has been lowered to 17—a year earlier than previous guidance.

This came as a shock to many who already viewed “gender-affirming” surgeries for minors as beyond inappropriate, especially given the pseudoscience being used to support the interventions.

However, last week, WPATH issued a “correction” to their recently-updated guidelines that completely eliminated minimum age recommendations from their guidelines, empowering individual practitioners to do as they please. Last week also coincided with WPATH’s annual conference, where Amy Tishelman, who was the lead author of the “Child” chapter of the new guidelines, revealed that these minimum age suggestions were eliminated so that practitioners could not “be sued because they weren’t following exactly what we said.” Tishelman also said that the goal was to maximize the likelihood of insurance covering the procedures while minimizing the likelihood of malpractice lawsuits.

This is an astonishing revelation, as it completely inverts the “do no harm” principle involved in the doctor-patient relationship. Instead of “do no harm” referring to minimizing the harm done by doctors to their patients, it now appears that harm is being reduced for doctors and surgeons while being elevated for their patients. Patients who are harmed by “gender affirming” treatments and surgeries will now find it even more difficult than it already is to seek damages.

With this change, WPATH’s “guidelines” are no longer guidelines—they’re a free-for-all. What is the point of a professional organization tasked with drafting guidance that refuses to give it?

It's almost like they fully expect there to be as massive an uptick in lawsuits as there has been an uptick in clinic referrals.

This isn't medicine, it's a cult.
