Justika Languar

She is the step-daughter of Magi, an old war veteran turtle back in the Demon apocalypse. She was trained as a child to fend for herself, and during that time she learned the rarity and importance of kindness to others. When she was 18, she entered the military academy.

Justika is the top graduate of the military academy and graduated just 2 years after she entered it. She then became Azuro's student and was able to improve a lot during that time. She was able to enter the Elite Guards in such a young age because of it.

She has a huge crush on Rollin the Royal Scientist and was basically chasing after her the entire time until Rollin finally submitted to the relationship. Rollin nicknamed the young gal "Rookie".

Kaosu Arachnia

5-year-old Kaosu was taken from the street as a student and personal assistant by Yulian. She was trained into a deadly assassin and spy until she left to be a mercenary when she was 15. She kept a healthy relationship with Yulian after that.

Kaosu is a top mercenary that is often hired by the empire for many, many discreet operations and espionage. During that time she was spying on the young improving Torch and as he turned adult she made him submit to her. And that was the beginning of their wild relationship.

Her webs are able to read someone's true intention, and so does hurting them if they said otherwise. Her webs can be turned into a whip if need be. And other... desirable thing between her and Torch.

EXO

EXO is Rollin's greatest creation and the most advanced AI in the entire AU. He is empowered by the POWERED SOUL, an artificial soul created by Rollin when she was just 18. EXO is the eyes and ears of the empire, while also being its ULTIMATE weapon against the demons.

He has two forms, the monitor and the WAR form. In his monitor form, he helps Rollin with the lab and assists every imperial matter. In his WAR mode, he is truly one of the most powerful beings in the AU. Even more powerful than Frederick. He rarely uses this mode as he has no need for it often.

EXO does not have emotions even if he has a soul. He's only truly loyal to Rollin and will do everything to protect her, even if it means sacrificing himself.

Hikari Grilsea

He is Frederick's childhood friend and personal advisor. He helped Frederick and the rebellion using his IVORY FLAMES and his intelligence. In the present days he's the current Royal Advisor, helping out any imperial matters. He was also responsible for training both Torch and Azuro empowering their pyrokinesis.

He once had a family which was killed by the demons, and now he chose to live as a lone wolf despite his busy schedule. He was very impressed when Azuro managed to defeat him in a pyrokinesis battle, which made him accept Azuro as an equal.

His POWER soul allowed him to be more powerful than his LV suggested him to be. He can even equal Frederick with his own power alone.

Oni

Oni is an ancient ghost of the underground. Even he doesn't know how long he has lived under here, way longer than even the empire. He hid in shyness and fear when the empire took refuge in the underground for years until Yulian found him and took him in to be her new personal assistant after Kaosu left.

Through Yulian he became braver than he was before. Still shy, but now he can roam through the underground with ease in his soul. Demons can frighten him a bit but he was reminded of being a ghost so he can't really be hurt. He doesn't like violence so he possesses demons and neutralizes them if he can.

He sometimes hangs out with EXO when he's free. Listening to kinds of music and making remixes with him through EXO's monitor.

RWBY VOLUME 8 EPISODE 11 SPECULATION!!!

Oh Boy.....Looks like it’s that time of the week again people and it’s looking like this one will be a doozy 😰. Well as usual let’s jump right in and see what I’ll get RIGHT and what I’ll inevitebly get WRONG!!!

-(Whose lives matter more?) Given That Ironwood has demanded that Penny be returned to the academy within 1 hour, I can guess that our heroes will be making some very difficult decisions in this episode. On one hand the lives of everyone down in mantle, on the other the life of one friend? This will undoubtably cause friction and division within the group as they have all shown where their priorities lie this volume so far and as much as some of our main cast would want to keep Penny safe, I can see some of them choosing the people of mantle over Penny. Question is......who will it be?

-(Bad Luck Is Nothing Without A Harbinger) Qrow and Robyn will sneak around the military compound to find their weapons. They will manage to find them and then plan out what they will do next. Qrow will obviously go after Ironwood while i see Robyn wanting to head down to mantle to keep the people safe and calm after witnessing Ironwoods video threat.

-(Repercussions Of A Grimm Experiment) While facing the enormous weight of they should do next, Oscar and Ruby recollect on their separate events from the past two days until one of them mentions about the Hound. Ruby reveals what the Hound truly was and it will make Ozpin shudder in horror of the revelation. Possibly even hinting of a connection between Salem’s experiment and Summer’s last mission?

-(“I Must Open The Vault”) Penny will reawaken as Watt’s virus takes over and she forcibly escapes Schnee manor. Ruby and someone else will pursue after Penny as the others stay behind.

-(To Boop or Not To Boop?) Ren reunites with Nora as he see’s what has happened to her during their separation. The two will begin a much needed conversation between each other about their worries and fears, and ultimately come to a conclusion of where their relationship should go moving forward...

-(The Winds Of Winter) Ironwood and Winter begin a private conversation with each other about Winter’s actions back in episode 7 and about his “Ultimatum” to Weiss’s team and friends to bring Penny in. Ironwood will then tell Winter that her loyalty is to him and that if her sister and friends plan to double cross him, that she should execute them on sight. Winter will become shocked and appalled of what she hears and decide against his orders to kill her sister. Upon hearing this Ironwood becomes disappointed and decides to deactivate Winters exo-skeleton armor, leaving her hurt and immobilized. The two have one final bitter conversation with each other and the episodes ends with Ironwood presumably killing Winter...

Alright that’s about all i got and can’t wait to see what will actually happen in tomorrow’s episode!!! Until then......see you in the AfterMath!!!!

-(Reunion and Reminiscing) We revisit Tai-Yang as he walks his way towards Summer Rose’s grave until he stumbles upon Raven already there. The two have a bitter reunion with each other and have a mild conversation about Summer and their early STRQ days. The conversation will eventually lead into Tai telling Raven about Ruby’s broadcast from episode 5 and that he needs Raven’s help to take him where his daughters are...

so... what is the story behind exos as a race? where did they come from? i wanna know because their backstory seems Very Similar to the backstory of a race of robots i thought of from what little i’ve heard, and i wanna know if I accidentally stole their backstory

okay im gonna put this under the cut and go fucking bonkers and yonkers bc even though the lore behind this race is still….. underexplored? there’s still a lot of fanon that stands a damned good chance of becoming canon

the exos were originally an augmented human race created during the golden age by copying the neural maps of humans to an artificial mind made of exoneurons and stuffing it into a super cool body. though the ethics behind this process in the first place and the treatment of the exos after theyre converted is shady and CB’s current lore points to it being a super skeevy corporation that’s hiding hundreds of human rights violations

their primary purpose still isnt exactly known. were they created for a war, against the vex on venus or against other humans or both? were they created so that humans could live forever? were they created as a private corporate military, utilizing upmost stealth, killing other corporate and political figureheads that threatened CB? who knows!!!

the most we’ve gotten about what the exos used to do is from cayde’s treasure island book, a raid armour piece’s lore entry talking about ‘the man clovis bray had to kill 13 times to keep him in check’, and descriptions of the deep stone crypt, a dream that’s experienced by all the exos, and though it slightly differs from person to person, it’s often described to be quite disturbing. it’s theorized that the crypt is an actual place, and it’s very heavily pointed to being on enceladus. i cant find the fucking lore entry for the life of me rn but cayde talks about ‘flesh giving into the ice’ and being turned to metal and reset.

speaking of cayde, he’s the only canon exo character whose pre-guardian backstory we have actual insight into. he used to be a bodyguard for a scientist at venus’ ishtar academy. he’d try to talk to her, but she’d ignore him. one day, they discovered something idk super secret and cayde mentions having to keep it a secret or it’s gonna be ‘another trip to wipesville’ aka he’ll be reset.

and the funny thing about resets! their reason for existing is a half truth! the number that’s tacked onto the end of an exo’s name is how many resets theyve had, and the more rests theyve had the more memory and mind fragmentation issues pop up (the threshold for this is about 20 resets, after that it’s downhill). resets were justified as a treatment for a disorder called dissociative exomind rejection (DER) that was caused by the human neural map going fuckin bananas in its new not fleshy body and saying ‘fuck this’ before shutting down

now this very well may have happened during the inital prototyping of the exomind. i would expect it to happen! but as time went on and the neural maps became more stabilized and features like eating/drinking to feed a bioreactor or something and being CANONICALLY able to fuck were stuffed into the body, the actual need for resets narrowed to extremely traumatic situations. but with CB being CB (and CB is skeevy as fuck!!) they decided to keep up the lies.

resets were now being used to wipe the memories of disobedient and rowdy exos who were writing down classified sketchy bullshit in diaries and getting too close to Figuring Out Shit That Theyre Not Allowed To Figure Out. exos were treated as something under human and it’s canon that human characters are suprised at how nuanced and intact their personalities and emotional patterns are. CB saw them as an infantry, soldiers to be controlled, to mindlessly obey or else.

almost all knowledge of clovis bray and the origins/history of the exos were lost in the collapse, along with the technology needed to understand their neural maps. one bray was revived as a guardian, ana, and while she’s well meaning and very kind... she’s incredibly naive, especially since she’s paired back up with the extremely powerful, partially fragmented and very morally grey warmind rasputin, another system-wide project by CB. while they’re both working to uncover warmind network fragments, lost golden age tech and even the crypt itself, rasputin still seems awfully quiet about any info concerning the exos...

(note: i decided to use a random word generator and start freewriting a story based on that. in this case, the words are begin, orbit, & syndrome, but im actually rly into it so far? so im just gonna go ahead and post what i got)

She didn’t have a lot of time to do this – and the bigger problem was, what was this? What should she do? Hell, what could she even do?

It might help to back up a little. But there isn’t a beginning – it’s a circle, a cycle, an orbit. But there are moments in it, periods of transition, of metamorphosis, and maybe it’s easier to start at one of those.

At one point, she’d had a history. A family, she was sure of it… most of the time. But now it’d been so long, or no time at all, or something that was both those things, or neither, or other – but that was another problem, and we’re already gathering a lot of those, aren’t we? Sorry to burden you so early on, but it’s what you signed up for. It’s what we all signed up for.

There was one piece she clung to, one thing that seemed to ground her, at least as much as can be expected in artificial gravity. She’d had training, so much training, and she held fast to the discipline, to the memory, even to the pains incurred. Perhaps especially to the pains incurred – pain was a strong feeling, something potent. An anchor.

Years. It must have been years – months seemed too short, weeks laughable. But she couldn’t guarantee that it had been years, it just seemed… practical. Logical. A lot of the pieces she’d tied together with nothing but logic or intuition, the details lost long ago – or only recently. Another detail that escaped her. Still, the experience was so sprawling, so spanning, so utterly massive that it really must have taken years. She remembered the aching weight of the suits she wore all day long, her only relief coming at night, when she showered, then slept like the dead. There’d been some purpose to them, something particular, more than just strength… she thought it might have had something to do with adapting them to variable gravities, or maybe to the claustrophobic containment of an exo-suit, she couldn’t recall.

She remembered other pains, too. Emotional pain. She remembered jealously and heartbreak, but when she tried to remember the love, passion, some sort of affection that must have preceded it, she couldn’t. The pain was sharper, had a higher contrast, its contours effectively outlined against the miasma of her thoughts. Cloying. Clay. She had to drag her way through a thought like a climber would drag themselves over the final ledge to a mountaintop. She felt that she could drown. She felt she already had. She felt she currently was.

She puts words to the experiences, but she didn’t know if they really fit. Sometimes she called the training a school, sometimes academy. Sometimes military. She really couldn’t remember. Maybe it hadn’t been affiliated with anything at all, maybe it was a citizen movement, or something her community had done together, but… her logic didn’t appreciate the latter options. Being part of an organization seemed more practical, more appropriate.

Didn’t mean it was right, but she had to establish some parameters, sometimes. Sometimes she dropped all of them, left herself wide open to possibility, like a wound, like a birth, like a death. Sometimes that felt right. But those times were confusing, chaotic, it was hard to sit there for long and eventually she shied away from the ambiguity. Besides, she had more practical concerns… didn’t she?

That was another thing she was pretty sure of. Didn’t mean it was right, but… parameters.

We’ll stick to those parameters for now, close up the wound, seal away the possibilities. Some will be traced with logic and practicality, which are ultimately still assumptions… but some will be memories. Those, of course, we should regard the most warily of all.

Bard (WIP)

What?

She was beautiful, she would obviously attract the attention of any passer-by.

She spoke simple words, I felt as if I could trust anything she said:

“Find me here”

“Where is here?”

The sand shifted beneath her as she turned, she merely made a wide sweeping motion to the ocean.

“Where is this place?” I need her to tell me more. I lock my eyes onto hers, but she is distracted by some far off thought, her gaze caught on the horizon. I follow her gaze to the horizon to see what impairs her… Nothing. I’m finally getting my bearings straight, I do a quick sweep around me. Sand, ocean, tall reeds, distant buildings (hotels?). I stare for a few minutes. Turok! That’s where we are! My fingers slip a bit as I hurry to bring up a map on my display- Wait, where is my display? I do a quick check. No HUD, no life-support, no backup, no comms.

“Echo? Can you hear me? Echo. Echo!”

I am done with this, done with these ghosts. I take out the horn, it whispers a note as the wind whistles by. What was it for an exit? I’m having a hard time remembering the notes… I raise the horn to my mask, inhale, and let loose a note. A portal appears in the air in front of me. The edges are golden light, constantly collapsing matter into its abysmal black core. Time for the first step; always the hardest. I walk closer to the portal, shift my weight to my left foot, and jump.

Cold.

Dark.

Shifting and falling through space.

I open my eyes, the HUD lights up.

“Hello Bard.”

“Hey Alika”

“Shall I continue your previous playlist?”

“Yes please.”

“Very well, first song: 2803921; Unknown, by: Unknown, Track 1.”

The AI softly murmurs a tune:

“Son can you play me a memory?”

“I’m not really sure how it goes…”

I hit the pause button.

“No more music, Alika.”

“Very well.” The sweet tunes come to an abrupt end. I don’t think I need the music today. It’ll only hurt.

Chapter 1

My name is Ezekiel Branson, I’m a medical scout for the Z corp; the main military force of a new and thriving military republic, Lazuli. We’re the top dogs on the technology front, and our enemies are in great numbers; they want what we know, but we want what no one knows. It’s my opinion that this is what keeps the war going. Greed. I would propose a way to share the knowledge safely, but that is just way too risky; at least that’s what my instructors at the academy said. Honestly; the only thing that people here love more than knowledge, is the planet (and all its plants).

Honestly I find it all very tiring.

These Generals and their mandates are all fine and dandy; they keep us safe. The thing that bothers me is the futility of it. Why bother fighting? All this effort, and all these resources, could be directed towards something greater. Instructors say that’s why I’m a medic.

“Look at him, he’s a great shot!”

“No good with a heart made out of jelly, is it Branson?”

“Sir, not at all sir!” I would shout, but the words hurt; but they spoke true.

“Aye, with a soul so golden, I should just start praying; right Branson?”

“Sir, no sir!” Always address your uppers with Sir, and end the sentence with Sir.

“We may find some use for a coward like you, aye Branson?” They both just laughed, they didn’t think any greater of me than they would have a slug.

Honestly, I’ve been sitting here thinking for hours; that’s what the night is best for.

I cast a glance at the window, nearly sunrise. Up and at ‘em, I guess.

Gonna be doing more recon today, prime objective: spot and mark any hostile camps nearby, Secondary objective: scout the jungle for any refugees; provide assistance if deemed necessary.

I slip into my full body suit. My spine and arms tingle.

I grab my pistol, standard issue, and holster it on my lower back.

I saunter towards the window, and go outside it onto the small flight deck outside. It’s a bit dark out today. By now the sun is rising over the horizon, letting me see the horrid gray clouds above. Flying and climbing is never fun in the rain. I lower my eyes to the rainforest below and scan the trees. Animals are all inside today, they don’t want to be in the rain. Save a few chimps, that is. My eyes are attracted to this one chimp, something about him just catches the eye. Snap out of it, it’s a monkey. I go over to pod attached to the side of my barracks, and pull the handle.

Jammed. Again.

I give it a swift kick, just under the lock.

Click.

Un-jammed. I put my back towards the pod and walk backwards into it. The door closes behind me as the exo-suit assembles around me. I feel a cool, tingly sensation as the gel layer in the suit is filled. The neural connections go through, I feel much taller, and stronger. The door clicks and slowly swings open, the gears tumbling softly. Let’s get moving. I slip the helmet on.

“Suit central systems online. Neural connection: pure. Mechanics: full functionality” The AI informs me.

“Computer, any reports from HQ; concerning today’s operation?”

“One message, playing: Reports of rebel activity near sector 3, barely within your jurisdiction. Insurgents have been spotted attempting to open a historic site. A temple from approximately 400 years ago. We need to keep the public happy, all historic and cultural sites should be maintained.”

“Alika, set a waypoint for that exact site.”

“Waypoint set.”

The Seitazea Family

The Seitazea is one of the most important families in the empire. With an Ex-Royal Scientist, Ex-Leader of the Royal Guard, Current Leader of the Royal Guard, Elite Guard, and the current Royal Scientist all occupying the higher-ups of the imperial structure.

Zero Seitazea

The daddy of the family. He was the Royal Scientist back when Frederick was committing rebellion against the old emperor. Knowing how bad he was treated by the old one, he supported Frederick in overthrowing the old emperor using his inventions.

After years being the Royal Scientist, he now left it to his step-daughter Rollin to take care of the department. Now, all he does is playing games, looking at memes, and becoming an internet sensation. He's often nicknamed "Bone Daddy" by many in the AU.

His powers are the usual bone and hand plates. BUT, he has the ability to control dust and manipulate it as he wishes. Something he learned years ago...

Rollin Seitazea

She was taken in by Zero and Violet when she was just 2 years old. She's the eldest of the Seitazea siblings, with 3 years difference between her and Torch. Her IQ and genius are on par with or even surpassed Zero's.

She is the current Royal Scientist after Zero stepped down. Her career rocketed due to Zero's teaching and influence that she became a Royal Scientist by the time she was just 20. She created EXO when she was 18 and invented the Powered Soul to empower it.

She's a grumpy, tsundere, and passionate scientist. Her powers are in her intelligence and strategy, not on the battlefield. She's currently in a relationship with Justika.

Torch Seitazea

Torch is the middle child of the Seitazea. He inherited his mother's weaker but more wild pyrokinesis and his dad's osteokinesis. His motivation led to him being one of the Elite Guards of the empire, which is led by Azuro, his brother.

Torch and Azuro were trained by Hikari who's one of the greatest pyrokinesis in the AU ever since they were little. And ever since the death of their mother, he's filled with hatred and vengeance towards the demons and wanting to annihilate all of them. This gave him the title WARMONGER.

He's currently in a relationship with Kaosu, the mercenary that the empire often hired for intel purposes. He has immense hatred for himself and all Sanses and Non-Sanses kind.

Azuro Seitazea

The youngest of the Seitazea, Azuro is the golden child having inherited his mother's more powerful and focused Blue Inferno, and his dad's osteokinesis and KARMA magic. He topped the Royal Military academy and Hikari's training above his brother and became the youngest ever General in the Empire's history.

Azuro wished to avenge his mother's death. But unlike his brother who was taken by hatred, he wanted to give freedom to the AU more than the demon's extermination. He's a very positive, energetic, and adaptable person and General.

Despite all of that, Azuro is often stressed out by the gigantic responsibility of being a General of the entire imperial military. His friends and family often reminded him to take a break at least once a week.

Violet Seitazea

Zero's wife and the mother of the Seitazea siblings. She was the Leader of the Royal Guard before her death by a demon invasion trying to protect her children. She was a human with the power of pyrokinesis and has helped the rebellion in the past as well, where she met and got closed to Zero.

Her death had affected the entire family as a whole, Zero being undoubtedly feeling empty inside, Rollin trying to cover it up with the workload, Torch being filled with hatred against demons, and Azuro overworked and stressed out trying to protect everyone just like she did in the past.

An Excerpt from HUNTER KILLER

Two weeks later I stood on a platform behind Chief Executive Officer (Planetary) Heiermach, suited up and carrying both my Reaper and my Popov-Norinco 60. I was glad for my battlesuit’s climate control as I watched the important men and women around me sweating in the hot afternoon sun.

I’d placed Zelag and Ward down in front of the stage, behind the local fuzz. Jones was on the stage platform with me, also a bit behind Heiermach. The crowd was pretty big. I’d estimate between twenty and thirty thousand people were there. The whole thing was a legitimately big deal.

DVG and the Chrysalans had managed to put this event together and get it advertised quickly. I suppose you can do stuff like that when you have more money than God. There were plenty of locals present, along with more than a few offworld tourists, historians and media crews interested in the temple. I had no doubt I’d end up in the background of a half-dozen documentaries. Good thing I was wearing my exo and my visor was mirrored.

Wardogs had provided us with an armored luxury skycar and a driver to escort Mr. Heiermach. That got us to the mountain in about five minutes instead of driving an hour or two through the desert. Mount Xirtis looked close through the windows of DVG HQ but the flat terrain played tricks on you.

The ceremony itself was typical PR stuff. Sappy speeches by local politicians and a university professor, various religious stuff, some music, blah blah blah. At one point some young Chrysalans did a little dance with gauzy wings on their backs, then we had to listen to a guy playing some sort of glass organ with his feet. I was desperate for coffee to stay awake within the first ten minutes, and I’d been standing here for two hours.

Fortunately, our suits are well-stocked with pharma. I set it to zing me with a little chemical pick-me-up whenever I started nodding and my heart rate dropped too low.

Heiermach played emcee himself. He was good at it too. He made it look easy, introducing each person and pronouncing their names correctly, then standing back and letting them go for their allotted time, then stepping in and moving everything along to the next portion of the program if it looked like they were going to go on too long.

“And next we have a woman who is both a priestess of the temple and an honored historian,” Heiermach announced, his hand on the shoulder of a heavy, older woman with facial tattoos. “You may have seen her book on the divine origins of the temple and the many fascinating events which took place over the centuries on this very ground. Her work has been designated as worth preserving in the Alexandrian national library, as well as bring recognized by the Academy of the Ascendancy as a–”

Some yelling up front at the barriers caused Heiermach to pause. My visor was jacked into the security grid and gave me a tactical summary. Four yellows were pushing through the surveillance field and starting to scuffle with the local police.

“Possible hostiles at barrier!” I yelled into my comm, but I could already see Ward and Zelag converging rapidly on the scrum, so I held my position. Just to be safe, I pulled my Reaper and stepped in front of the CEO and the confused historian, holding it up so no one would think I was aiming it at them. Jones stood behind Heiermach, facing backwards in case a second threat materialized from behind the stage.

I focused on the four men and confirmed they were hostiles. They were dressed like tourists, but they’d pulled vibro blades and had put the police down fast. Two police already lay bleeding on the ground, while a third was staggering away holding his bleeding stomach. I flicked the Blitz to a moderate dispersion and braced to fire, but before I had the chance there were multiple flashes of plasma fire from both flanks and all four of the attackers went down hard.

The crowd was yelling and shouting and starting to get frantic.

“Tell them the threat is neutralized!” I said to Heiermach. “Keep them from rioting!”

He recovered fast, taking the mic. “Ladies and gentlemen—everything is under control. Please remain calm—please stay where you are!”

“Jones, stay with Heiermach,” I ordered, then jumped down off the stage.

On the ground were four men, two of them neatly burned through center mass by plasma bolts. Ward and Zelag were already there.

“Ward, Zelag? Who torched these two?” I asked.

“That was me,” Zelag admitted. “I nailed them with my Cerebus.”

“Good shooting,” I said. “Though non-lethal would have been better.”

I kicked myself mentally. I should have specified that to the team. We wanted captures, not kills. Assuming knowledge was not good leadership, especially since Zelag was a new guy.

“I didn’t kill mine,” Ward said, pointing to the other bodies on the ground. They were still breathing with no burns. Stunned. One of them had lost his hair—a wig? I looked at his detached hair, then at his head. On it was a network of green tattoos, ending at his face where they’d been obscured by makeup. I pulled at the other guy’s hair and it came off as well, also revealing ink.

Then I examined the other two. All of them were wearing wigs. They must be radical monks who hadn’t gotten the memo. Apparently the druid was right and not everyone was easily convinced of DVG’s contrition. Or maybe the gods were still pissed.

One of the two wounded police officers was now sitting up, his arm slashed from elbow to shoulder. The other one was being carried off on a stretcher.

“Damn Chrysalans,” said the local police chief, taking my arm and addressing me over the murmur of the crowd. I nodded. He shook his head. “I swear, I know they’ve been around a long time, but if I had my druthers…”

We’d introduced ourselves to the captain before the event when discussing the security plans and he’d told me in no uncertain terms what he thought of the “crazy cultists and their stupid temple.” I watched the police search the living and the dead. All four of the faux tourists had been carrying blades. I thanked Ares none of them had been wearing an explosive vest. Though the sniffers would have picked that up, I mused. Okay, a disrupter. Thank Ares none of them had a disrupter.

“You’d better make an announcement,” I said to the police chief, aware that the crowd was restless. “Get this thing back on track.”

I took the stage again, as did the police chief. He made a quick announcement, stating that two police officers had been injured in the line of duty but were receiving care and that “security had neutralized the threat and we shouldn’t let terror derail this momentous occasion.”

The event resumed, with Heiermach thanking the universe as well as the local gods and the sacred mountain for keeping everyone safe. We made it through without incident. As the sun set over the temple, the chief druid took the stage and publicly hugged Heiermach, accepting his repentance and blessing him for it, then sharing a drink from a large and glittering ceremonial chalice. It was passed around on stage among a circle of Chrysalans along with important members of the city and the DVG staff, then torches were lit and songs were sung for another half hour before the event came to a close.

And that’s when everything went rodeo.

[ENG TRANS] 170613 Kim Donghan's Interview with OSEN

Q: When did you start having great interest for music? Donghan: Since young, I’ve watched music broadcasts. I enjoy singing along and I follow the dance steps too. So when I was in high school, year 1, in Daegu, I started being in a dance team. Since then, while standing on stage and hearing the cheers from the audience, my dream to be a singer grew bigger.

Q: You must have your own role model, right? Donghan: The first (choreography) that I learned was BTS sunbaenim’s “Boy In Luv” and EXO sunbaenim’s “Growl”. I liked Bangtan sunbaenims even when they weren’t as recognised/well-known then, and I thought they were really cool. Their choreography and songs are my style. I haven’t seen them in real life yet, but I definitely would want to see them.

Q: You must’ve strayed far away from studying. Donghan: Honestly, I didn’t study hard, but I didn’t play around too. I didn’t smoke or drink. My grades were in the middle too/so-so. To be specific, I was 18th out of 34 people. Haha.

Q: You must’ve been popular, right? Donghan: Firstly, since I was in a dance team. I didn’t know why our team worked very hard, but we just did. As compared to other teams, our synchronization was more perfect, and we attended many school festivals of other schools. Because of that, I gained fans who recognised me, and sometimes, there were some female students who come and find me in school. Later on, it was said that there was someone who was from “The Face” dance team coming out in Produce 101.

Q: We heard that you had a lot of awards too. Donghan: In Daegu, we won a dance competition 2 years consecutively, and were also 1st place for 2 years consecutively in a K-pop cover dance competition in Dongsungro. I think we took all the awards in the dance competitions in Daegu.

Q: Looking at it, your hometown is Daegu but you totally don’t use the Daegu accent? Donghan: I moved to Seoul last year, in April. After moving, I attended an acting academy and fixed my accent a lot. But whenever I’m excited, my accent comes out. Haha.

Q: Alright, now we’ll be talking about “Produce 101”. When did you first hear about joining and how did you feel at that time? Donghan: It was around December last year when I heard about it. Honestly at first, I wondered if the male edition would work out well. Girls are more brighter/lively as compared to boys, so I thought of how when 101 boys come out, it could be dull. Someone even told me that it might be gross. But even so, it’s a program that does a lot of K-Pop covers, which is what I usually do.

Q: How did you feel during the first filming? Donghan: I stayed up the night before and went to film, I realised then that filming is really difficult. The filming period was extremely long. Because we were sitting for long hours, my waist was hurting too. As much as I was excited, there were many difficult parts too.

Q: I’ve always been curious about this – is crying really that common among guys? Donghan: Among the 101 trainees, there were hyungs who already completed their military. They said that (the show) was as difficult as the military. I stayed up on many nights, and while staying up I danced, so it can’t be helped but to think that it was physically difficult. While calling our parents, it seems like all the members cried. They allowed us to call at the point when we were physically and mentally tired. Haha. During the time where “Pick Me” level evaluation ended, the crew gage our phones. And while speaking on the phone, in 3 minutes, I cried after not crying for a few years. I’m really someone who doesn’t have tears.

Q: Donghan-ssi, how many times did you cry? Donghan: Twice. During the cover of “Call Me Baby”, there were conflicts of opinions among tje members, so I found it hard then, and I cried at that time. When I was 35th, I didn’t cry because I was happy, but I cried because it was so to separate ways. I was trying to hold it back, but my tears came out as soon as I made eye-contact with Starship’s Lee Gwanghyun. At that time, the crew were surprised as well. They said they were surprised because I’m not that type (to cry).

Q: Was there a time where you felt like you wanted to stop? Donghan: We prepared for “Pick Me” in 3 days. We almost didn’t have any sleep. At that time, because it was winter, everyone’s immune system was weak. We caught a cold and were like zombies. I wasn’t in the right state of mind. The choreography was really hard, since it went on for 3 days and nights, at that time, I really wanted to go back. But because of that (happening), I didn’t find the remaining missions to be very hard. Yoo Hwiseung hyung who was from the army said that “This is like a clean army” at that time.

Q: How did you feel when you were called to be a candidate for the 35th place? Donghan: I wanted to give up. There was only one seat left, and it didn’t seem like my name was going to be called. I thought I was definitely going to be eliminated since my rank for the previous week was at 34th. But when my name was called in the 4 candidates to be the 35th place, I felt puzzled. It felt different to be called as a candidate that was going to make it right at the borderline. I felt really apologetic. I felt really sorry towards the hyungs and dongsaengs that I had bonded with, it felt as if I am trampling on them, and I thought that I should work hard.

Q: Filming for 5 months, when did you feel the happiest? Donghan: Previously, I felt like as if I was like a frog in a well(?), I felt the most happiest when I found myself trying, improving on my skills and developing.

Q: Could you tell us if you need to supplement anything, if there’s any? Donghan: I’ve never really had to dance while singing at the same time. I enjoy singing, but I get confused because it hasn’t been long since I had to sing and dance at the same time. I think when it comes to singing and dancing together, stability is most important.

Q: You’re considered the member who regretfully had little screen time. Is there anything that you wished had most definitely came out on broadcast? Donghan: I think the fact that the image or me practicing not briefcases was slightly regretful. We joke around a lot too, but when it’s serious, we work hard and put in a lot of effort too but it’s regretful (because it wasn’t shown). During the “Shape of You” stage, fans gave Noh Taehyun hyung the nickname “Noh Sensei” after watching the image of how he guided and lead the team. I also stayed up and taught Park Sungwoo hyung too. At that time, both of us practiced a lot, Sungwoo hyung too showed very human sides of him but it was regretful that these parts didn’t came out on broadcast.

Q: If you had to name your best stage, according to you? Donghan: Of course, I think of the “Shape of You” stage. It was the first encore that come out of the male edition of Produce, and the on-scene reactions were the best. That too was regretful as it wasn’t captured well on broadcast. It was a stage I expected a lot from, so it was a pity that even our individual/solo parts were shown as a full-shot.

Q: During the campus life, there would’ve been strict rules, have you ever went against it? Donghan: I think smokers have it the hardest. Mine was a small matter, I lost the lamp that was shared with us to use when we’re writing our diary. So I received 3 demerits for losing an item.

Q: In the end, you were eliminated as well. Donghan: On that day itself, we were also surprised among ourselves among the unexpected reversal in rankings. In Season 1, those in Top11 was mostly fixed, but this time, it kept changing. It’ll be good if I could make it through too, but I kind of expected it because “I Know You Know” stage was ranked last. Originally, it was to pick 22 people, but they only picked 20 this time, so I just waited with a light heart.

Q: You showed a pretty confident image of your dancing in the entire season, but if there were someone who you considered a competitor, who was it? Donghan: Actually, it hasn’t been long since I took formal lessons for dancing so although I would say I dance well, among the 101 trainees, there were people who danced very well. Ong Seongwoo hyung and Noh Taehyun hyung dance the best. Perhaps between them, I think Taehyunie hyung dance the best. You can tell by his expressions and strength when he dances.

Q: Your mum wrote a hand written letter in Daegu, and even handed out flyers, and the support comment that your company’s representative wrote on her SNS became a hot topic. Donghan: I felt apologetic. If I did well from the start and had a good ranking, she (mother) wouldn’t need to do all those, but because my rank was low, she suffered a lot too. I didn’t feel good. My mother isn’t someone who cries a lot too but as she looks at the image of me crying, she cries along too. So when I was eliminated this time, I felt as if it was really regretful. She kept asking when I would come back to Daegu and that she wants to hurry and see me.

Q: While filming for Produce 101, you must’ve met many celebrities. Donghan: BoA representative is really beautiful. I was really thankful for the advices she gave during filming. I remember Leeteuk sunbaenim too. During a short break in between filming, I remembered the words he said, it was ‘I was a trainee like all of you too, I understand how all of you feel, in SM too there were a lot of competition so I know how hard it is. Just hold it back, because once it ends. some time you may miss this. Just do your best now’.

Q: You would remember the coaches too, right? Donghan: The coach who guided me the most was Kwon Jaeseung teacher. Kahi teacher is not that scary as I expected, I was thankful for her teaching tenderly. Kahi teacher also made “DongCenPre” (Donghan in the Center is Pretty). That was something that made me known/recognised.

Q: In the end, who do you think will win? Donghan: I hope Park Jihoon will win. During “Pick Me”, we were in the same level and we practiced a lot together. Since then, we got closer so it’ll be great if a friend of mine wins. I think it’ll look cool for the first person to be #1, will become the #1 in the last episode too.

Q: Now, all that’s left is your debut, so what kind of idol do you want to be? Donghan: My role model is BTS, and among them, I like Jungkook sunbaenim. I’m working hard to practice on my singing, so I can be an idol like Jungkook sunbaenim, who’s good in singing, dance and everything. My goal is to be an idol that boys will follow my performance.

Q: How long will you take until your debut? Donghan: I think I still need to practice a little more. While watching the broadcast, I feel that I lack in a lot of areas, other members are also not prepared. I would like to debut in a 7-membered group. I think the balance in a 7-membered group is good. If it was a 5-membered group, and if were to have a strong performance, we would be catching our breaths a lot and there will be many singing parts as well.

Q: You already have fans, and it’s also surprising that you already have international fans as well. Donghan: I was in a dance team in Seoul, and the whole group was famous overseas. So I gained some fans from China and Japan. Even before it was broadcasted that I was eliminated, there were many fans who came to the front of my company. How did they know I was eliminated. Haha.

Q: If you had to say a word to the fans who are supporting you? Donghan: As compared to others, my face couldn’t shine much. There were also nothing much that could make you ‘fall for me’, but all of you discovered and liked me just by looking at my performance videos, and I was able to go up until the 3rd mission. Therefore I’m really thankful. I’ll work harder in practice to meet expectations and never forget that love I’ve been given, and so that I will make my debut coolly as soon as possible.

Q: Lastly, if trainees were to join 'Produce 101’, are there any tips you would give? Donghan: I think selecting the group song at the start is the most important. --- some may know, a lot of my muses are related to one another in one way or another, either as acquaintances or much deeper than that. here’s a list of them and it’s ever growing because i haven’t gotten to much of them.

while it’s fun to read about this, it can help future interactions with muses you want to interact with -- using relationships to know other muses

Desmond, Riley, && Odessa – triplets

Desmond and Riley are nearly identical while Odessa is the fraternal triplet. Desmond is the eldest and Odessa the youngest with Riley in the middle, dealing with the antics of his eldest and youngest.

Akihiko && Susumu – boy and his best friend

Akihiko rescued Susumu from perpetual death ( twice ) and Susumu felt a strong connection to Akihiko after their first meeting in the forest when Akihiko was just a toddler. When Akihiko fully gained his abilities, Susumu took the shape of a human to properly interact with Akihiko. They became inseparable friends ( perhaps, brothers is a better word ).

Xifeng && Manmul Bagsa

Manmul Bagsa ( Seojun, TJ, Siwon, Yonggi, Jiwoon, Woojin and Chulsoo ) currently has made Xifeng’s mother’s restaurant as their home base, paying her mother to rent the space. She’s good friends ( unknowing of what they do ) with Yonggi, Jiwoon and Woojin.

Aleaon && Seunghae – friends

Seunghae, as an actor, has met Aleaon on multiple counts on set. Aleaon has worked with the production staff in South Korea for a while now and found himself meeting Seunghae quite often to the point that they formed a friendship on set and off set.

Jongin, Sehun && Delia – police academy friends

These three were friends in the police academy and briefly lost touch once they graduated; Delia to the Bomb Squad and Jongin & Sehun to EXO. They reconnected by chance when their units worked together on a case.

Jongin && Sehun – roommates

Jongin and Sehun are really good friends ever since they started the police academy. Renting an apartment together for a while before Sehun had to move out to take care of his ill father so it left Jongin to rent alone however another man filled that empty space, Jongin’s boyfriend, Caelus.

Youngjin && Wonho – childhood friends

It’s not a surprise to fans that Youngjin and Wonho are really close, so much so that it seems like they’re brothers. Their history goes beyond the idol group, rather, they were two childhood friends with a dream and soon became the only people they can rely on after entering the entertainment business.

Meilin && Manmul Bagsa – allies

Due to her mother’s extensive reach in the underworld, Meilin has had the pleasure of meeting Manmul Bagsa ( and their predecessor before everyone was caught ) and has made friends with the group of youngsters. She’s much closer to them than her mother simply due to the closeness of their age and always makes sure to swing by to say hello when she’s in Korea.

Sumi && Minhee – friends

Sumi and Minhee are friends through profession – they’re both YouTubers. While one is more active on that front ( Minhee ), Sumi was able to meet Minhee at a convention held in the USA and by chance, the two of them met through a mutual friend and hit it off, sometimes collaborating with each other on videos.

Daniel && Delia – Double D

For some odd reason, these two managed to hit it off well the minute they met or perhaps, Delia is just really insistent. Daniel is the level-headed ( yet jaded ) partner and Delia is the loud ( and spontaneous ) rookie. Together, they formed a team where they are capable of helping each other through cases.

Fumiko && Kazuo – lovers

Before her death, Fumiko had been dating Kazuo and due to his reluctance to let her go and feeling guilty for not walking her home that night so his guilt has kept her stuck on earth. She refuses to move on until Kazuo has healed.

Misook && Kiwoo – online friends

Misook has a great love for anime, animation and everything related; she found Kiwoo’s animation YouTube channel from a fan that told her about Kiwoo and she just fell in love. She reached out and both of them have been communicating online and he has sent concept art to her for her costume designs.

Dabin, Gyeongsu && Yejun – army friends, three musketeers

All three of them were friends in the air force, in the same barrack and unit. Their friendship went beyond the military, keeping much in contact with each other. Gyeongsu has a soap and candle carving shop where he sends his products to Yejun’s inns to sell as gifts, Yejun gives Dabin and his dance crew a discount to come to his inns during their training or relaxing times.

Yuuta, Yoshi, Tsubasa && Masahiro – the Four Benevolent Beasts

The four benevolent beasts that rule over the four seasons, cardinal directions and elements; these four are close to one another as guardians and work together to help Akihiko hone his skills.

Sangwoo && Odessa – teacher and pupil

Odessa was the choreographer that brought Sangwoo into the hip hop dance scene. Sangwoo still visits Odessa at the Def Dance studio, it’d be a lie to say he hadn’t developed a crush on her at some point in time.

Sangwoo && Jetta – former dance partners ( aka the two dance prodigies )

Sangwoo was Jetta’s dance partner for a competition, they were great together but Sangwoo can’t see himself as a ballroom dancer but did admire Jetta for what she did. They still keep in contact, telling her that if she still needs a partner, he doesn’t mind volunteering.

Andy && Taeyang – classmates

Both of them attend the same class and by chance, sat next to each other and hit it off. Constantly pairing up together for presentations and assignments.

Andy && Hanjae – legal guardian

Hanjae’s parents and Andy’s parents were good friends before Andy’s family had moved away. When Andy had moved back to Korea, his parents had contacted Hanjae and asked him to be Andy’s guardian while he was there as a student.

Andy && Hyesung – chaebol friends

When they were much younger, Andy and Hyesung were friends as their families often met at parties and they were part of the youngers that attended. Andy looked up to Hyesung’s headstrong attitude, sticking close to her during those time. He currently wonders what has happened to her.

Shion && Finnian – classmates

Finnian ( before wrongfully convicted ) was one of Shion’s classmates back at the academy. His airheadedness has caused him to be placed in the midst of a crime and he chose to remain alive and serve the Order…He’s still in contact with Shion ( via cellphone ) and has met the male a few times.

Barry, Jongdae && Eunhee – forensic geniuses

These three work in the same lab and are experts in their fields. They often have lunch together ( when permitted ) and discuss avidly about work or science. Sometimes Kyungsoo joins them but it’s not often due to conflicting schedules, the technicians seems to either be too busy or dead tired.

Sehun && Ahyeong – father’s doctor

Sehun’s father had fallen ill and caused the officer to return home to take care of his father with his mother. Currently, Ahyeong is his father’s doctor and he often converses with her about his father’s conditions and medications.

Chanyeol && Aimee – online friends, allies

Aimee and Chanyeol are online friends, found over other online mutual friends. The two of them hit it off but have never met yet help each other when they require some extra hands in terms of hacking.

Casper && Shiori – employer & employee

Shiori is a part-timer in Casper’s pet café, often working the floor and sometimes manning the coffee machine, Shiori’s rather amiable with the pets of the café. If he’s not working the floor or making beverages, he’s in the pen with the various dogs and cats…Sometimes he joins Casper on the hunts for strays.

Dabin && Taewon – brothers

Dabin is Taewon’s elder brother and mentor in dance, he is also Taewon’s confidant, the person that Taewon can turn to when he’s in need of somewhere to go. Dabin is a brother’s keeper for Taewon, shielding him from the bad of the world.

Changming && Dayeong – kindred spirits

Both of them have lost someone important in their life and bonded over that fact. Offering each other solace and comfort in times of difficulty.

Taiyi && Houzuki – old souls

Old souls that have met every 10 years in the meadow that taiyi likes to view the moon in. taiyi has been a constant spectator of the war games between houzuki and fuzuki.

Sooyoung && Hyuk – siblings

Sooyoung is Hyuk’s younger sister and she’s always taking care of her brother, ensuring he eats and goes to the doctors when he needs to. She is in tune with the boy and always frets over him when it should be the other way around. Hyuk is protective of his younger sibling, keeping a keen eye on her emotions.

Injung && Odessa – exes turned friends

Met through a mutual friend before Injung was recruited to be an idol; he and Odessa dated for 2 years before he chose his career over their relationship ( with odessa’s full support ). The two became close friends but Injung is still in love with her.

Yingyun && Meilin – employer and assassin

Yingyun has worked for Meilin’s mother several times, they have met face to face but he’s never spoken to her directly. She finds him cute ( in a little brother sort of way and dotes on him ) but he’s unresponsive to his cooing and doting

Changming && Meilin – allies

It’s no surprise that Changming has connections back home in China, he doesn’t care much for what kind of person his allies are, just as long as they’re useful to him. Meilin ( and the Black Lotus Family ) is one of many, exchanging money for information or other resources.

Yixing, Yifan && Luhan – tea buddies

yixing has a love for tea and has a rather substantial collection; he often invites yifan and luhan for tea and spend sometime together to reminisce. luhan sometimes invites the other two over to his apartment but it’s mostly yixing’s place.
