Theresa May, previous PM referred to Brighton & Hove
On Tuesday afternoon in Parliament following from the Presentation by the King Charles III setting out his first session there were a number of MPs who spoke in response. One of them was Caroline Lucas from Brighton Pavilion and the only other one in Sussex was Peter Bottomley from Worthing West. However another person who spoke during the session did mention Brighton and Hove. It was Theresa…

101 Things You Should Know About the UK Tory Government
Thing 87
Sunak’s ministerial appointments have been besmirched by underlying scandal’s just waiting to surface. From tax avoidance to bullying, Sunak has been accused of neglect and weakness when appointing key personnel to his government.
Nadhim Zahawi, Dominic Raab, Gavin Williamson and Suella Braverman are the well-known faces of this sorry sordid story but there are others.
Rishi Sunak appointed Graham Stuart as Minister of State in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy on 6 September 2022. Mr Stuart’s responsibilities, amongst others, include,
Net Zero Strategy, low carbon generation, international climate and climate change, electricity and gas wholesale markets, electricity and gas retail markets and green finance.
It is therefore very disturbing to learn that Stuart has recently made headlines by claiming that not all fossil fuels are the “spawn of the devil” and that issuing new oil and gas exploration licences was “good for the environment". He also supports opening up new coalmines.
As if that were not bad enough, it has now emerged that:
“…in 2019, Stuart received a £10,000 donation towards his re-election campaign from JR Rix & Sons, a Hull-based business primarily involved in the distribution and sale of fuel, including heating oil, diesel and petrol."  (Guardian: 26/01/23)
Caroline Lucas, Green Party MP for Brighton Pavillion is reported by the Guardian to have said:
“For dirty fossil fuel cash to go directly into the pockets of ministers, who then greenlight new oil & gas licences and a climate-wrecking coalmine, is nothing short of a scandal – and it will be the public and our planet paying the price. If Stuart doesn’t recognise this glaring conflict of interest, he shouldn’t be in the job."
Is there anyone in Rishi Sunak’s government who isn’t tainted with the stench of scandal?

Truss’s vision of slashed taxes, deregulated enterprise zones, an even more unfettered City Of London and favours showered on the rich might be more coherent than her predecessor’s flailing opportunism, but beyond Tory party members, who voted for it? Three years ago, the Conservatives offered the electorate a vision of a newly active state and an unrelenting focus on the UK’s economic inequalities and imbalances: to quote from their manifesto, “millions more invested every week in science, schools, apprenticeships and infrastructure while controlling debt”. Both those pledges are now dead: the idea of government spending reshaping the economy has been sidelined by deregulation and tax cuts, and the Tories are suddenly telling us that skyrocketing public borrowing is nothing to worry about.
The impression of a gigantic handbrake turn is confirmed by the end of the ban on fracking – something the Tory manifesto said would happen only if it were proved to be safe. The whole unhinged package offered by Truss and her government surely chimes with an even smaller minority of the electorate than the one that put Johnson in power, but such is the democratic gravity that Conservatism manages to defy: elections now feel like mere pauses for breath before whichever Tory cabal is currently in charge gets on with doing whatever it wants.
To state the blindingly obvious, the voting system that leads to these outcomes is hopelessly broken. Because the Tories’ support is evenly spread around non-urban England, it took around 38,000 votes to elect a Conservative MP in 2019. For Labour, whose support is increasingly clustered in cities, the figure was 51,000. The Lib Dems, meanwhile, got one seat for every 334,000 votes cast, while the Greens’ solitary MP, Caroline Lucas, sat atop a mountain of 865,000.

In the cost of living crisis, who is caring for Britain's carers?
Tumblr media
Who cares for Britain’s carers? The UK’s Department of Health describes an unpaid/informal carer as: “someone who provides unpaid help to a friend or family member needing support, perhaps due to illness, old age, disability or a mental health condition”.
The Family Resources Survey estimated that in 2020/21, around 4.2 million adults in Britain were providing informal/unpaid care. The survey defined informal caring as care that is not a paid job, and can occur for many, or only a few hours a week.
The 2011 Census found that there were 491,000 carers aged 24 or younger in the UK. A 2013 report from the Children’s Society found young carers were more likely to be from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds.
Carers tend to have additional expenses, as they pay for care related equipment, transport costs and spend more on food and energy. This means recent cost of living increases and all the talk surrounding it may have particularly affected carers more but who in British politics is talking about this?
For over half of Britain’s carers, their main source of income are earnings from employment and this made up 56% of carers in 2020/21. State or private pensions were the main source of income for just under 23% of British carers, while only 18% of carers drew most of their income from state benefits like Carers Allowance.
Britain’s working-age carers were more likely to live in poverty (25% of female carers and 26% of male carers) in comparison to pensioners (20% of female carers and 21% of male carers). Carers who spend more time caring have higher poverty rates: with 44% of working-age adults caring 35+ hours a week being in poverty, compared to 17% of those caring fewer than 20 hours a week.
The NHS has acknowledged the “vital contribution” of unpaid/informal carers, saying it was “critical and underappreciated … not only to loved ones, neighbours and friends, but to the very sustainability of the NHS in England”. But as people talk about this cost of living crisis, who is caring for Britain’s unpaid/informal carers and will anyone speak up for them?

we're back at it because barça stressing me out man so...
my optimal barça line-up and game plan (v ch*lsea)
warning: controversial BUT i justify all my choices
Tumblr media
yeah i forgot to change keira's number and made a typo in paralluelo sorry
My Game Plan:
Okay, first of all, if Graham Hansen is not fully healed. I want and need this instead and because I cannot have a conversation with medical staff, I will be justifying both of these line-ups.
Tumblr media
The Wings:
Left: Ona Batlle and Salma Paralleulo
I think one of Jona's big mistakes last weekend was not having these two on the same wing. It has been deadly all season down that left-hand side for both Spain and Barcelona. It is better on the left but I also will take it on the right-hand side, especially, if Graham Hansen is injured and Rolfö is playing in place of Bronze.
The combo of both their speed is almost impossible any defender to handle and if you think about the Ch*lsea back four that H*yes is likely to put it, their speed combination will be difficult for Charles or Carter to handle as their speed historically has not been able to match the speed of Paralleulo and Batlle. Ultimately, Barcelona's best chances on the weekend came from fast counter attacks and speed getting into the box and, from the past, we know that is something that Paralluelo and Batlle can reliably combine to do either down the left or the right (down the right if Rolfö and Pina are playing)
Right: Lucy Bronze and Caroline Graham Hansen (if fit) / Fridolina Rolfö and Claudia Pina
Honestly, the primary motivation for picking Bronze and Graham Hansen as the preferred starting players is because I would prefer to see Batlle and Paralleulo on the left, however, I am pretty flexible on this wing and would like the fittest players to play and it's obvious that Graham Hansen has been dealing with some sort of injury. If Bronze and Graham Hansen start, I want to see them subbed off for Rolfö and Pina and vice versa.
Ultimately, Rolfö and Graham Hansen did not link up well on the wing last weekend and due to injuries they haven't had much time to gel. The better partnerships and pairings in my opinion are Rolfö and Pina and Bronze and Graham Hansen. Bronze was one of the best players as a sub on the weekend and has a lot of experience in these situations and against Chelsea, I think it would be good to use her.
The Defence:
Goalkeeper: Cata Coll
The obvious choice, clearly, the stronger Barcelona goalkeeper at the moment. Confident with her ball at her feet and a good ball-playing keeper with the ability to come out of her goal and act as an eleventh outfield player to overload a Ch*lsea midfield and progress play down the pitch.
Centrebacks: Irene Parades and Ingrid Engen
Taking Ingrid Engen off the pitch at the weekend was a crime, she was the best player and I think if she plays like that again, the only way she is coming off the pitch is surrounded by a medical team. I am serious, she is so fucking good and underrated. Her and Parades are also the strongest centreback pairing that Barcelona has put out all season, there is no doubt in my mind about this and judging my who Jona is resting and playing, there is no doubt in his mind either.
The Midfield/Forwards:
Defensive Midfielder: Keira Walsh
Solid for club and for country in every match. Most underrated player on the pitch and one of, if not, the best defensive midfielder in the world in terms of her ball recovery and blocking the passes. It was clear that Ch*lsea's tactic was too partially mark her out of the game and she needs to be brought into the game more likely by Engen overloading the midfield as an extra player with some forward movement out of the backline.
Central: Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmatí and Mariona Caldentey
Alexia and Bonmatí were two of the best players on the pitch on the weekend. They have so much combined experience and talent and are a deadly midfield pairing in the centre of the park. Alexia should've started on the weekend, she changed the game when she came on but there is only so much one player can do. Both she and Aitana have a bad match and come back better and fighting. They live and breathe Blaugrana and seemingly contrary to popular belief play really well together. Their combined fluidity allows each other to have a lot of freedom in the midfield.
Mariona is the strongest choice in that central position. She is best placed as a nine or false nine other than the wing that Jona had her play on the weekend. That position can also be fluid with her ability to drop into the midfield and Alexia's talent or playing that false nine position. She is better at being in the box and finishing chances than anyone else on the team and has a talent for creating space.
I would like to see Patri, Brugts and Vicky come on into the forward/midfield line as subsitutes but given the match could be 90 or 120 minutes, I don't want to apply exact timing as to when those substitutes should be made as that would depend on how the game is going and how it needs to managed.
Due to the fact, I will be in the stadium (in the home end (undercover and still firmly hating Ch*lsea)), I will not provide updates about the subs I think should be made. Only the friends who will likely regret going with me will hear my wonderful commentary and yapping on a level that has the ability to compete with Mapi Leon. But I am taking my camera so you will be all be blessed with some pics (if they are any good).

Two Slavery questions and inadequate answers
So on Tuesday our local MP Caroline Lucas asked a question with several aspects for Slavery issues. Sadly the answer from the Government appears to be very inadequate. So the starting point of the question was “To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to the Answer of 28 February 2023 to Question 148612 on Slavery” and it was clear that several people were not happy with…
