"you just need to develop a thick skin"
No amount of "thick skin" will bring back Brianna Ghey
No amount of "thick skin" will bring back Nex Benedict
No amount of "thick skin" will undo the brutal attack on that poor girl from London who just wanted to go rollerskating with her friends
No amount of "thick skin" is going to stop more trans kids from being fucking murdered and attacked
You wanna "protect the children"? Start with protecting the ones being harassed by your own children for who they are, preferably before they get stabbed in parks and have their heads smashed in in bathrooms.

One of our siblings was murdered recently, and you need to know about it.
TW // transphobia and violence against trans people
Brianna Ghey was a 16-year-old trans girl from Warrington, England. On Saturday, February 11th 2023, Brianna was found dead on the side of a park with multiple stab wounds. Two 15-year-olds have been taken into custody in connection with her murder.
Tumblr media
People in the Warrington area have alleged that Brianna was being bullied in school, and that neither the administration nor the police did anything.
Despite this, local police have said there is no evidence that the attack was hate-based and most news articles don't mention her status as a trans woman. This is deliberate. This is genocide by the hands of transphobes and TERFs.
Britain does not have gender self-identification (your legal gender being determined by how you identify and not any arbitrary medical requirements), meaning even in her death she will be deadnamed and misgendered on her death certificate.
She deserved so much better.
Mourn the dead, and fight like hell for the living.
EDIT: A verified GoFundMe has been set up for Brianna.

Rest in Power, Nex Benedict
A 16 year old kid who loved nature and looking after their cat Zeus. Who enjoyed reading, watching the Walking Dead, and playing Ark and Minecraft. They loved to cook and would often make up their own recipes. They did well in school, being a straight-A student. Rest in power a teen who was human and had interests and ambitions and challenges and friendships. A trans youth who was brutally murdered just for being trans, when that was only a fragment of who they were as a person.
Nex Benedict, Jacob Williamson, Brianna Ghey, and other trans youth like them were real people with real lives. They deserved better, longer, happier lives. They deserved to grow up and not fear for their lives. They deserve to be remembered as who they were, not just as another trans kid who was killed, as people with families and normal human lives.

If at any point i hear one more person taking the piss out of someone with neopronouns/xenopronouns or non-binary people or trans folk, I'd really like to remind them that there are SEVERE consequences to this. The death of Briannah Ghey and now Nex Benedict NEEDS to be spoken about more, and how influencers online who spread their bigoted views contribute to the bullying and sometimes death that these people face. If you find yourself posting something about 'trans-trenders' or whatever, you're going to have an impact on that community. Someone will see what you've posted, they'll repost it or rephrase it and it will spread. This is a plague, and if we can get rid of it we need to start holding more bigoted people accountable.

I’m so sick of people constantly trying to diminish and bring trans rights into question by trying to hide under the guise of “protecting children” because the result of that rhetoric has been the murder of a trans teenager. People who oppose trans rights do not give two shits about protecting children and people need to stop acting as though they have “a point” in this conversation because their ideologies lead to actions like this being carried out. Brianna was sixteen. She was a child.

I unusually just share tweets, but given the amount of reblogs I'll edit this one:
INFO Update #1 from @misinfohunter
This is mostly misinformation.
UK law does not require transgender people to have a Gender Recognition Certificate in order to include their correct name and gender on a Death Certificate. However, this is subject to discretion and having a GRC does make the process less complicated.

INFO Update #2 from @momagainstcatboys
this is not true. i understand people are upset and the legislation is legit nightmarish but there is no legal requirement for your gender on your death certificate to match that on your birth certificate, nor do you need a gender recognition certificate. it merely requires that those registering the death note the correct gender with the registrar. obviously this legislation can be applied unevenly and families are bs but it’s important that people know their rights on this, and spreading misinformation helps no-one.

Glad to hear Brianna Ghey’s family have found justice. Both defendants being found guilty of her murder.
She deserved better from a political and media class who’s rhetoric gave rise to the society that killed her.

Brianna Ghey didn’t deserve this.
Normally I don’t get serious on tumblr but I don’t care- anyone who’s saying that her murder had nothing to do with her gender can block me right now. The way police are saying that there’s no reason to believe the two that killed her did so out of hate? disgusting.
If you’re celebrating the loss of a life, of a child, just because she was trans and you care more about your political beliefs than someone’s life, you can fuck off.
I wish people would stop further misgendering her even after she’s gone. Her death records use her deadname and countless news sources do as well.
It makes me sick the way people are dismissing this, we need to acknowledge this guys. Remember her name please.

I haven’t seen anyone talk about this, so I’m going to.
Tumblr media
This is Brianna Ghee. This weekend she was found stabbed to death in a park in Warrington, in north west England. She was a 16 year old openly trans girl, and had experienced years of transphobic bullying. Her school knew about this and did nothing. Despite this, the police are insisting that it wasn’t a hate crime.
This is bullshit.
We lost a sister today. Remember her name.

jesus christ so officially fuck the british press for taking the story of a murder of a sixteen year old girl and deliberately deadnaming her (Dailymail) or editing their article to remove all mentions of her being a girl (the Times) after the fact that she was trans came out.
It happened two days ago the lack of sensitivity is horrific.
Especially considering that, depending on your source, it is suspected that this violent attack was hate motivated.
best wishes to Brianna Ghey’s family, and the community who loved and supported her.
[sidenote: it was really hard to find articles that mentioned her being trans which. granted is better than deliberately deadnaming or misgendering her, but still feels like continued erasure of violent crime against trans people in the uk]

Seriously though, fuck terfs and radfems who double down on their bullshit and tell other trans people that they're "using the murder of a child" to "further their own agenda", like really Becky?
When we get mad at the abhorrent murder of our own community and try to spread awareness, you tell us that we're disgusting pigs twisting the death of someone into an argument for our benefit, (protecting trans people. How evil, right?) while you pretend to remain ignorant to the fact that YOUR IDEAOLOGY is KILLING CHILDREN ALL OVER THE WORLD.
Make no mistake, they know that accusing us of that makes no sense, but it's the only way for them to argue their way out of being part of a movement that tells others to kill trans people.
They are cowardly hypocrits who need to twist reality to justify their hatred. They will try to gaslight people and shift blame any way they can.
