so I've been trying to memorize mending wall for a really long time now and I think I've been having a lot of trouble because it's blank verse, which isn't my usual kind of poetry, but in the interest of trying to finish memorizing it by the end of the month (trying to memorize one poem a month, as per the challenge) i'm going to type out everything I can remember including all the mistakes and post it, then see how I did
I'm allowing myself the grace of not needing all the line breaks and punctuation being correct, just the words
Mending Wall
Something there is that doesn't love a wall,
That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it,
And spills the upper boulders in the sun
So that even two can pass abreast.
The work of hunters is another thing,
I have followed behind them and made repair
Where they have left not one stone on a stone
But they would have the rabbit out of hiding,
To please the yelping dogs. The gaps I mean,
No one has seen them made or heard them made
But at spring mending time we find them there.
I tell my neighbor beyond the hill.
And on a day we meet to walk the line and make repair
To each the boulders that have fallen to each.
We keep the wall between us as we go.
And some are loaves and some are so nearly balls
We have to say a spell to make them stay;
"Stay where I put you until my back is turned!"
We wear our fingers rough from handling them.
ok that's as much as i've got... time to post it and then look it up and grade myself

muddled march
I wanted you to meet my cat,
you presented me your mother.
I wanted to build my own home,
you told me about diaspora lives.
I wanted to step on my steps in jeopardy,
you saved me a safe seat in the back.
I've always thought that this is a getaway car,
but I learned that you love risky trips.
so tell me again, canım,
will it happen overnight?
or will it be out of sight?
your mind might be in the light,
but mine is never right.
broken souls can't be healed with words,
your lifeful laugh deserves the world,
in an exquisite place that's reserved,
doubtlessly not for the absurd.
confusion is the only guy I've known,
from the first day you entered the zone,
mixed feelings are what you've shown,
was it you or me who is not fully grown?
but giving up isn't your forte,
even as hurdles coming in the way,
you repulse to back down, not a day,
and I am lost again in obscurity of why to stay.
yet comes again the parody,
and the vagueness in clarity.
people call me hana,
but you prefer honey.

long past my teenage years
I find myself blushing under
the gaze of a stranger I won’t
see again and I giggle as I tell
the anecdote to a friend like
oh finding someone who pulls
on my curiosity after so long
feels like a small miracle
meeting someone by chance
and connecting with a few
words and glances and the
feeling of being understood
without having to explain
myself makes me feel the
energy shifting around me
whispering you don’t have
to do anything but you could
it's the possibility that plays
with the feeling you cannot
deny when it’s so clear there
is no room for insecurity or
confusion because you both
know it’s there invisible but
palpable the gravity between
two people naturally drawn
to each other for more than
simple looks or status I know
that if we had our eyes closed
we would find each other
it's inevitable how life works
written for Escapril day 22 — desire
