TANJIRO would like to raise a dog, standard but oddly fitting for him. I think he would have multiple to be honest, he enjoys breeds that are more active so I would see him with a golden retriever or a Labrador. His pets really like you to!! Almost like he silently taught them to be just like him.

He definitely has dogs that get big but still thinks they are lap dogs 100%. Whenever you come over to his house and sit anywhere it’s a 50% chance a dog will come lay near you, next to you, or usually on top of you. His dogs are kinda spoiled to, he’ll you he scolds them but you caught him giving them treats when he was suppose to one time.

ZENITSU wants something small, not to big and easy to manage. Personally I think he own a bunch of guinea pigs. Very random choice but just hear me out. They remind me of his sparrow, he likes to hold them when he’s around the house. You may see him walking in a thick turtleneck during the summer, but that’s just because his guinea pig is resting in the next area.

They are a little stubborn though, even zenitsu doesn’t know why. They can get mad and almost bit you before, but that’s normally if they haven’t eaten. You don’t what zenitsu feeds them but he definitely has those really thick guinea pigs just for no reason at all. Well there is a reason as you have to invite his guinea pig to the table to eat with you all during dinner. Also obanai is banned from coming over is kaburamaru is tagging along.

INOSUKE probably wants a really unconventional pet, like I bet he tried to convince you to let him get a boar before. In the end he sticks with a dog like tanjiro. Just the breeds are different I bet he wants have to have a doberman or a German Shepard. He wants to train those dogs for war I tell you.

You refused to enter his house for a bit until his dogs get to know you, you preferred keeping in your feet and not getting tackled by his dogs. He likes to play fight with them always playing fetch with them outside. Although besides this you to went a farm that was mixed with a shelter where they have this really small boar. Every time you go there inosuke always spends time without. He named the lil dude megatron.

KANAO I feel like would have a bird of some sorts. A really well trained one as well. Not like a usual house pet but those really expensive exotic birds. She’s trained it and had help from professionals to train it now, it’s at this point where you can almost have full fledged conversation with it. It knows both of your names, the food it likes everything.

Sometimes the bird is unusually smart.. like the time you brought snacks that you and the bird can both eat but kanao never wants you to. When she can back you had everything hidden and the perfect fool proof lie created. Until the bird “coincidentally” said your name and the beaks brand right after. You were the one getting in trouble and her bird face no repercussions.

GENYA is pretty straightforward he just wants a cat. He likes how they’re more chill and calm and sometimes just hang by themselves or with him. also because the cat owning trait was subconsciously influenced by gyomei’s love for cats. It just grew on him eventually. I think I can see him with one of those black and white bicolor cats but I doubt he would care about the breed.

You tend to compare Genya to his cat a lot because of how similar they look in the face. For some reason Genya’s cat just looks mad, all the time. He could be giving it treats and it would just have the more monotone expression on its face. The cat doesn’t mind you though, Genya could be calling it thinking it’s asleep. Only to find it trailing after you while you go to sit on his couch.

jeff: secretly too afraid to use lighters anymore so he sticks to dab pens. claims he "doesn't want weed all over his shit" but everyone knows the truth lmao. takes baby hits cause it hurts his lungs. 4/10.

toby: oh ABSOLUTELY handles it like a CHAMP. the one who's constantly ripping the bong that it gets annoying. he likes that it calms his anxiety and tics, and its one of the only times he feels like he can relax and get away from all his... issues. finishes peoples bong rips and joints for them. doesn't like blunts. prefers to smoke alone but likes when brian tags along cause it makes toby feel like he has a brother. helps people out if they wanna roll/learn/etc. 11/10.

e. jack: prefers to be in touch with his senses completely. afraid that if he's too careless he'll go all spooky cannibal demon on everyone. doesn't mind when other people do it, though. 0/10 just cause he doesn't smoke.

l. jack: never let this thing near any drugs ever. i feel like drugs wouldn't even work on them??? stoned toby once tried to get them to smoke cause he thought it'd be funny. they ate the joint. -1/10.

masky/tim: prefers his cigarettes. he already has issues with the constant DID switching he doesn't need anymore time skips or anything. likes feeling in control. in high school and college before it all got bad he definitely blazed it up though. 6/10 for past experience.

hoodie/brian: 100% was the one blazing it up with tim in school. hits pipes like a PRO. sometimes smokes with toby if they've been on good terms/its been a good day and the proxies aren't at each others throats. 8/10.

natalie: dooooeeessss not like not being in full control. can't handle it and it freaks her out big time. she'll start getting triggering flashbacks if she's high enough. when her and toby were dating she fucking hated whenever he got high. for effort, 2/10.

nina: the gf who looooooovessss weed and then is gone by the first hit. definitely takes a way too big hit and throws up after trying to impress everyone. she likes fruity vapes and puts stickers on them. 7/10.

jane: NU-UH!!!! does not go near drugs of any kind and gets nervous around intoxicated people. keeps her guard up when she's around anyone like that. she did once help natalie to her room when she was stoned though. and for that mom energy, 1/10.

ben: i have this little hc that ben just kinda. gets shit for people. being a part of the internet he can get anything ordered, anything shipped anywhere. as a fee he likes to charge people in weed (or something sexual if he's being a nuisance and likes the person). has never once bought his own bud and doesn't keep track of it. you'll get strawberry cheesecake and banana pudding in one bowl and you'll fucking like it. nobody will smoke with him due to that. 9/10 tho he blazes it up.

kate: never learned how to do any of that and doesn't really feel like learning. hates people too much to ask someone to teach her. gets intimidated whenever she sees toby and brian work out the mechanics of it all. 1/10 poor baby.

liu: DOES NOT PARTAKE IN ANY OF THESE ACTIVITIES AT ALL ‼️🙅 acts like he's too high (lol) above to do drugs. in reality he's just too awkward and scared to ask anyone to smoke with him. if anything he would have a dab pen cause he can't roll or pack for shit. 3/10 you'll get there one day buddy.

helen: casually smokes here and there to relax himself. not addicted, more of a recreational/medicinal user. 8/10.

puppeteer: this fucking GUY. in competition with toby for highest tolerance/biggest stoner. i mean look at him he's a theater kid and he has a beanie. thats like 100% stoner material. smokes blunts like theres no tomorrow. 11/10.

zero: definitely makes it into a competition and judges people if they can't handle a hit/finish their milk. every single time accidentally gets way too stoned trying to beat everyone. worst person to smoke with but her tolerance is incredible. 7/10.

jason: believes he has better things to do than get high and do drugs. always busy with his 'work' and his companions (the circus pastas) feel the same. 0/10.

candy pop: no one lets them near their stash. they have not once encountered any type of drug. no one is willing to share. so sorry buddy. 0/10.

Terzo as a dad headcanons

He's very insecure at first, scared he's gonna be like Nihil.

But he's super thrilled at the same time, he adores babies!

Totally there for the birth, doesn't care if his hand gets absolutely ruined and if he gets cursed for eight generations. He is there and that's it.

He absolutely fucking cries when he sees his baby!

Gushes about his child to everyone, no matter the occasion. (Think Maes Hughes from FMAB but even worse)

This man has pictures of his partner and kid(s) all over his walls.

He gets the names and birthdays of his children tattooed.

He's big on gentle parenting and communication - things he himself craved as a child.

He does have a small fantasy of Irish twins, but he'd never dare ask you for that, he knows having a baby is incredibly exhausting for your body.

He makes sure you're on bed rest for a long time before he lets you walk around.

Probably has Omega carry you around while he himself carries the baby right next to you.

He gets so lost in baby talk it becomes a part of his everyday speech.

And his little ones would be such little charmers!

If you pump or formula feed, you don't even see the bottle before he feeds the baby. He's just so quick with it, it's ridiculous.

Loves to give baths to the baby, especially when they're a bit older so he can splash the water with them.

He would have a bit of an issue with diapers at first, but he's a brave boy and he can take it. It just takes a few days at first. After that, he's 100% ready and willing to change diapers.

Omega teases him that his kids are gonna be taller than him. Secondo totally joins in on the teasing. (And you do, too)

I’ve been spending the past like hour looking at your page I love it sm! I have some questions :3 1. Does Rosie have a design in your au yet? I’d love to see her being actually super scary- 2. Just for you anon I have drawn Rosie incredibly quickly and she kind of looks like garbage but ive never drawn her before im so sorry

For any issues in this (a few I can already spot) I will be fixing when I work on her full body design 🙏 I like her original smile and hollow eyes but honestly sunken in eyes that are barely visible are a lot scarier to be so she gets that. Ive also considered making her blind but we’ll see if I go through with that (I would love to design her a really fancy white cane though… something with that umbrella it does things to me..)

As for Vox and Velvette, I don’t think Velvette is anywhere near as aware as Vox is. The majority of her knowledge is some horrible things have probably happened but she’s never seen it or explicitly gotten any confirmation her suspicions are true so she refrains from prying into it because it’s “not her problem” and finding out would make things more complicated for her image and work, though she absolutely does hat Valentino and is 100% okay with killing him and has discussed kicking him out with Vox multiple times, however they have yet to settle on this.

Vox is definitely aware of what Valentino does but doesn’t actively engage himself in it aside from very sparse talks with Angel on set that usually involves Angel becoming irritable or jittery in Vox’s presence. Vox does detest Valentino’s behaviour and treatment of Angel and will frequently roll his eyes at the mention of Angel since in his mind “its always something with him” and by now any complaints Valentino has about Angel get filtered out after so many years of hearing the most mundane things Valentino is upset about. (ie. Angel moving even though he didn’t live with Valentino to begin with) Even though he heavily disapproves of what Valentino does he still turns a blind eye to it and leaves Angel with little to no help, only ever giving him a few words of advice or a brief warning if Valentino is in a bad mood that day.

Velvette is also unaware of Vox and Valentino’s actual situation as well as basically everyone else. On the surface they come off as “friends with benefits” however Vox is in a (very loosely) similar situation to Angel. Valentino will make similar threats and statements to Vox as he does Angel and currently, Vox doesn’t realise that Valentino is exploiting him. As of now, he hasn’t processed “I don’t actually want to be doing this” or “I am uncomfortable in this situation”. He is still suffering the effects of an abusive work relationship since Valentino does still hit and yell at him, he just hasn’t processed the sexual aspect of what they do was pushed onto him unnaturally rather than him consenting to it openly. Hopefully this makes sense? If it doesn’t feel free to DM me about it or send in another ask and I can clarify more

Angel’s brother currently is still in the mafia and is mingling with crime as usual, however a decent few years ago he ended up gambling away +65% of the families earnings at Husk’s casino back when he was an overlord and ended getting himself stripped of all respect and ranking and is currently attempting to repay his family and work his way back up while trying not to get killed. He is also vaguely homophobic still but has become more tolerant of it after being around and meeting more people. He definitely doesn’t think its “natural” but he knows when to keep his mouth shut and will probably understand more about it someday. Not anytime soon though. He also hasn’t seen Angel for around 8-10 years now and by seen I really just mean yelled at him from across the street and then got a brick thrown at him probably

take all this with a pinch of salt as i am typing from my phone in the back of a van and i am very sleepy

anyone could learn to spellcast with Soul! in the same way anyone could become an astrophysicist. most people do not.

the Soul Sanctum, and the Pale King's use of Soul spellwork, was considered highly innovative. mostly spellcasting is something only a few people can do/bother learning, but in Hallownest the King encourages it and the Soul Sanctum is dedicated to honing the craft, which makes Hallownest weirdly ahead of the game compared to a lot of places. soul scholars were kind of like the educated elite. but also wizards. people talked

you could simplify and say you have two main schools of thought: the scientific approach (Soul Sanctum, Pale King) and the spiritual approach (Snail Shamans, Moth Tribe). the two ways of thinking are not mutually exclusive and often overlap though. both can be used to great effect

there are bugs out there who have done crazy high level things like the Soul Sanctum in less scientifically-themed contexts, definitely. this tier of fanatical spell meddling is rareish though

Soul is the word many bugs use for the life force inside all living things. and yeah, basically! it's not exactly your sense of self though that's different

Soul and Void are effectively infinite. harnessing Soul to cast spells involves channelling it through certain means and generally you only have certain limited reserves to draw from at a time (see Soul Vessels for example)

Soul Master and the rest of the scholars were fixated on surpassing that limit. kind of a "what if humans used 100% of their brain" situation

if you actually found a way to use all of one bug's Soul at once it would be like splitting the atom - incredible amounts of energy released at once, even from an average bug who isn't a spell user in the first place. Mistakes and Follies collapsed into themselves long before they got anywhere near that level. it's basically just not sustainable or doable. (soul master voice: but is it)

spellwork is also kind of like using a certain muscle a lot. if you cast a lot of spells it'll get easier for you. if you're inherently a gifted type who has a lot of potential for spellwork, but never use it or pursue it, you'll still be pretty bad at it and get tired quickly compared to someone with no inherent ability who practices every day

Void is basically like its own version of Soul. the two are different but if you scanned a Void being and found no traces of Soul that doesn't mean they're soulless, it means they have their own version. you're looking at it. it's Void

the average bug does not contain any traces of Void by nature and thus spellwork with Void is rare and very poorly understood. those ancient bugs who worshipped the Void however would have had some in their system. how? don't ask questions you don't want answers to

once upon a time, all Void is/was, in all traces across the world, part of one unit. once in the dawn of time etc etc. the world has changed since but it's fundamentally all the same to itself.

spellwork with Void is essentially using Soul to bind and command some Void to do what you want it to do. this is why shade spell upgrades cost Soul, it's the Soul making it do that thing.

mess around with Void too much if you're a bug and it will do very strange things to the body. it stains shell, it leaks from the joints and the eyes, it puts strange thoughts in your head. Soul is easier, safer, and better understood, and also isn't partly echoing with its own collective sentience.

not that this kind of thing deters a Snail Shaman. pretty sure if a Snail Shaman was given half the chance they'd learn to spellcast with anything. magnets. active plutonium. whatever. mind your business

if you know how to see Soul inside a body, and concentrate, living things generally appear as opaque glowing white cutouts. the Soul inside a living creature is saturated to the point of looking like a white shape in space. you can't see this usually because their body is in the way and it's sort of, tied into their cells or whatever

you can use spellwork to do pretty much anything, if you're clever. the sky is the limit. flashy stuff like attack spells, subtle stuff like enhancing your senses or letting yourself see things not usually visible to the eye, defying gravity, Whatever. almost anything you can think of. the main barrier is that it's difficult and taxing. the average bug doesn't bother

oh god i haven't even done Dream. okay a short rundown: Dream is different again. it's about the self, about thoughts, about the conscious and subconscious, about the mind. you don't so much spellcast with Dream as just kind of... manipulate and explore what's around you. connect with others. influence, sometimes. mostly understand. it's not technically spellcasting though and this post is getting long so i'll leave it there for now sdffgjk

1. Who is the most affectionate?

Well, it depends what "affectionate" means in this context, but probably Tendou. I've seen that man, he's basically a Wakatoshi cheer squad even when he's one of the best players in the prefecture himself 😭

2. Big spoon / little spoon?

I think most often tendou big spoon and Ushijima little spoon, I can see Ushijima rly wanting all the affection and tendou's rly happy to give it :)

3. Most common argument?

Who's sending the next care package. They live on different continents and they LOVE sending each other stuff but they can never remember who was meant to do what. Also, what time the facetime call was scheduled at. Time zones, my dude.

4. Favourite non-sexual activity?

They are 100% a picnic, flower picking, and orchard visiting couple. They do it whenever they can, just go find a random plant and yank it around until they have what they want, whether it's because it's pretty or because it's a good ingredient. It's good bonding.

5. Who is most likely to carry the other?

There is no way Tendou's bony chocolate-making ass can still get anywhere near lifting professional athlete Ushijima, but he probably could do it when they were both teenagers, though only to shock Ushi :'). Nowadays, it's obviously Ushijima who does the lifting, plus doesn't Tendou just seem like the kind of guy who demands piggy backs???

6. What is their favourite feature of their partner's?

Eyes. See my first OTP ask :D

7. What's the first thing that changes when they realise they have feelings for each other?

Ushijima prolly starts talking about Tendou. A lot (by Ushi standards). To everyone who stands still for long enough. I can just imagine it.... Anyways, yeah, I think Ushijima would be a lot more obvious, affectionate, and would suddenly compliment Tendou's blocking out of nowhere T-T

8. Nicknames? & If so, where did they originate?

Tendou calls him ushy gushy because he thinks it's funny, and Ushijima just rolls with it 😂

9. Who worries the most?

Tendou, hands down. Ushijima has no worries, he goes with the flow. Tendou stresses about pretty much everything to some degree, and sometimes he can even infect the worry into Ushijima so they're both worrying about it 💀💀

10. Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant?

They prolly both do this, but it seems like an Ushijima thing. He probably has a corner of his brain with "tendou" written across it and decorated with those awful little adhesive gems that get EVERYWHERE as soon as you start using them, and in that corner he keeps everything that tendou ever said or did in case it comes up again some day

11. Who tops?

At this point leave me alone, I don't wanna think abt that!!! Although logistically, Ushijima, right?

12. Who initiates kisses?

100% Tendou, but Ushijima does this thing where he taps his lips to signal he wants a kiss, and tendou RUNS over

Tendou, but tbh chocolatiers are up pretty early so he knows he can’t. Life is pain.

Tendou, though it’s usually just an encouragement like ‘work hard today’. Sometime he’ll put in a pun just to annoy Ushijima.

This one is hard because I don’t know anything about Tendou’s family, Ushijima’s is a bit of a mess, and they share the same friendgroup. I think Tendou would probably get excited and talk about it with all the friends though, so I’ll say Tendou.

20. What do their family/friends think of the relationship?

I’d love to put something like ‘about time’ but in reality it’s more like ‘really? him?’ from both sides

21. Who is more likely to start dancing with the other?

Tendou. Man’s French, leave him alone

22. Who cooks more/is better at cooking?

Tendou is the baker and Ushijima is the cook. If they try to leave their assigned skills, the kitchen will be a bit burnt by the end of it.

23. Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines?

Tendou, and Ushijima probably doesn’t understand them, so it’s more a crowd-pleaser thing to prove that yes, they are actually dating, thank you, Semi.

24. Who whispers inappropriate things in the other’s ear during innappropriate times?

...Tendou? Probably him, and it’s probably not anything too racy, it’s just jokes about the couple they’re having lunch with.

25. Who needs more assurance?

Probably Tendou. Ushijima has fans all over the world who thirst over him constantly on twitter dot com, so Tendou probably gets pretty insecure over the relationship. I don’t think Ushijima truly understands it since cheating literally never crosses his mind, it’s physically impossible, but he gives the assurance when he sees it’s needed.

26. What would be their theme song?

Ugh, I don’t even know, I don’t have an ushiten playlist so if I make one, I’ll edit this post and add it in T-T.

27. Who would sing their child back to sleep?

Does Ushijima even know that’s a thing that’s done? So yeah, Tendou. But I do know Ushijima would be the BEST father, he’d take his child out in fields and teach them loads of cool stuff,and tell stories about fairies....

28. What do they do when they’re away from each other?

They’re probably on the phone 24/7. The Adlers are probably in the habit of going ‘hi Ushijima, hi tendou’ because they KNOW Tendou can hear them. Semi calls Tendou and puts him on speakerphone in the crowd during volleyball games so Tendou can yell along with the crowd while he watches from France.

29. One headcanon about this OTP that breaks your heart

it’s not a headcanon, it’s true, but they’re the only people that seem to show the other one any kind of acceptance. Both of them have been outcasts their whole life and continue to be so, in a way, when they leave highschool and live apart. I realise that the relationship itself isn’t sad, but both of them are sad by themselves so I don’t need to make it worse :’(

Heck yeah you may, dude!!! :D I think it's hard for us to make lists/an official tip guide because everyone's different. What I’ve written below the cut is certainly more of a guided walkthrough of my experience, but I hope you can get something out of it!!

I'll be honest, a lot of scent to me is a mind game, haha. I've found myself most connected when I'm walking past a group of people and smell someone else's perfume. They won't know it, but I'll take solace that they're like me-- we both just want to be smelly.

I don't have a "100% official, patent pending" scent, but I do have what I call a "ballpark of olfactory favorability". And really, I created my ballpark by paying attention to what smells I linger on, haha. Realistically, we wouldn't be able to smell ourselves in the omegaverse, but having a scent as a miscecanis is entirely for ourselves. So I don't like to think of my scent as "how others should/would/could perceive me" but rather "how I want myself to perceive me", or even better "what would I like to smell today?". Oftentimes, my own answer to that varies by day, hence my ballpark.

If you've forgotten what smells exist, Poesie and Demeter are two perfume brands I've been recommended. I haven't tried them myself, so I wouldn't be able to comment on their physical quality, but I still think they're worth looking at! Some of the scents I see in those catalogues I never would've thought of on my own.

More succinct suggestions:

If you're able, try to be actively aware of what you smell. When you have a quiet moment, take a deep breath. What do you smell? Is it good, bad, not much of anything? How does it impact you, if at all?

Think, experiment, and explore with the smells around you. What smells do you associate with being happy, sad, angry? What's something you want to smell? If you met your clone, how would you hope they smelled?

For most of us, we won't be able to smell like our scent. If you're able, surround yourself with what you love to smell, even if that doesn't feel like your scent. Sometimes being around what you love has to be enough.

Nests:

I struggle with nests all the time!!! I naturally, constantly crave them while also being extremely picky about them. Sometimes, all I can do is imagine what life will be like when I'm rich enough to build my six story mansion (and what the one floor dedicated to nests would be like), bwahahaha.

I am privileged to have materials that I find comforting and that elevate my nesting experiences. I'm even more privileged to have a space in my living situation that I can experiment with. It's hard to say "just try different things you like!" because many are unable to.

Some general principles in my mind when I nest:

Expand your idea of a nest. While yes, the classic sleeping structure like a bed is The known nesting base, it sometimes doesn’t feel like a nest at all. And it doesn’t have to be! Look for what feels like yours in your life. Maybe it’s your favorite spot on the couch, or your assigned seat in a classroom, or even your favorite oversized hoodie. The point is that it’s yours, even for just an hour, and that you’re allowed to own that space for as long as you have it (including personal space). This isn’t to say you should nest everywhere and be hyper-territorial; it’s to say that a nest is a place where you feel safe and at home and sometimes that’s not physically in your room

If and only if you can, obtain materials that bring you comfort. I'll be honest; the greatest thing I've ever gotten for a nest was leftover pieces of couch foam. I’m always worried I’ll die of dehydration so there’s almost always a emergency bottle of water near my nest. My friends used to have a system where we would trade plushies every night, and that brought us comfort. All of these things bring or once brought me comfort to my daily life, especially when I come home and need a space to decompress. These materials were not bought specifically for nesting and they certainly don’t have to be conventional.

Listen to your needs/wants and prepare for those to conflict/change. For a week, my brain goes “ooh, you should try sleeping under your bed tonight!” Which is crazy because I’ve tried sleeping under beds a thousand times before and it doesn’t go well. But one night I gave in and laid under my bed, and something in me was soothed. And I had to think about why this was working for me mentally but not physically. What I learned was that my brain really wanted distance from an immovable object in my room, and I was able to change my sleeping situation accordingly. Long story short, by humoring my impulses, I was able to learn where my different needs can compromise

If you’re looking more for the logistics of how to build a nest, there actually are quite a bit of nest inspiration and tutorials I’ve seen float around! I think there’s even a nesting tag but don’t quote me on that. I’ll check in my feed and reblog some stuff I’ve found intriguing before

I know a majority of this sounded rather “philosophically preachy”, for a lack of a better phrase. That’s just how the incorporation works in my life now. If there’s anything to take away, let it be this: there’s no “right” or “wrong” way to be miscecanis or partake in the lifestyle, if your heart is respectful and kind to both the community and to yourself. There is no rush, pressure, or limit to how this journey can manifest for you. Do what sounds fun and attainable; ideas are in just about every fic or blog you’ll find!

thoughts about sams first few months at college?

gonna try to respond to this without basically rewriting @spneveryseason's amazing post on the subject that everyone should read! also like everything I write this is gonna be all over the place no organized thought process we die like men.

oh that's a good question, I love thinking abt stanford era sam (disclaimer I did no research for this I started college in 2018 and very much did not go to a school anywhere near the level of prestige as stanford but ANYWAY) ...I definitely think there would be a lot of mixed emotions and a lot of stuff he had to figure out on a practical level (like registering for classes and paperwork that would be really hard to fill out since he went to so many high schools and doesn't have his fathers support). I go back and forth on dean trying to contact him, I think it's canon that john never did (beyond checking up on sam without his knowledge) so I can't really imagine dean reaching out but maybe they had a few awkward emails in the first few weeks.

I think he'd feel lonely and out of place for a while, it would be the first time he was around a large group of people for an extended period of time since he switched schools so often. and although he went to public schools growing up so he wasn't as sheltered as he could have been, he obviously grew up in a very different environment than most people and would have to learn how to behave in such a new setting. I made another post about this but pre law isn't really a major that you can get a degree in, so I personally think sam was undecided for a while (even if he knew he wanted to be on the pre law track at least) bc there were just so many options before finally settling on something in the humanities by the time he had to declare. I also go back and forth on his general emotional state bc while I understand the concept of him possibly struggling with feelings of depression and anxiety (and like I 100% think he did) I also think he was overall happy there once he started making friends and getting involved in things (which brings me to my side tangent about his line in skin where he says deep down he never really fit in at stanford- I think he was telling the truth about that, both because of general feelings of never fitting in anywhere, added to his upbringing but I also think part of him wanted to make dean feel better, especially after the shapeshifter made the comment about how everyone dean loves leaves him if that makes sense??? so yes he knew he would never truly "fit in" but he still tried and found a lot of good things about being at school and did genuinely love his time there). I think he'd be so interested in everything the school had to offer and take full advantage of it, from the dining hall to clubs to the library. he'd love exploring campus and learning new things and just feeling like he could make his own choices for once in his life. and actually have his own space even if it's a small dorm with a roommate like it's such a small thing that most college students take for granted or actively disdain bc dorm life kinda sucks ass but for sam it's the most amazing thing ever bc it represents a new life and a new world.

in conclusion we should have gotten some flashbacks of his time at stanford like I know the show would probably butcher them but alas thanks for coming to my ted talk.

I 100% believe Densy is just stringing what's left of the Grem community along until her "career" as a one-off artist takes off. I mean, let's see.

Main staff is largely absent though of course they'll deign to speak with you if you raise your hand in one of the FAQ channels.

They're using more GAs when Densy used to be adamant about not liking GAs much. The last GA sale for a snow grem went for around $80.

There's just not as much interest anymore. Take the manta MYO slot raffle sale. Normally they'd be mobbed with entries. This time, Densy stretched it out as long as she could in hopes more people would enter. Then they had a FCFS aspect to the slots and those didn't fill up nearly immediately like they used to.

The server is damn near dead. It's mainly a small group of friends that have stuck it out no matter what. Sometimes a new person will come along, try to make friends, and they're often ignored to the point where it's cringy. Compare this to Chams, Dainties, or Skire where it's busy and, if you hang around enough and aren't a complete jerk, you will get people to talk to you.

Hardly any activity on the DA group and the only real thing to do with the ARPG is foraging (ok, and a couple repeatable prompts to farm currency). 99% of what you get from foraging is trash. Occasionally you'll get one or two of the currency (you need 100 for your first MYO slot and after that it's either 150 or 200 for another).

There's been whispers that they're cutting down on Cypherus AGAIN. Densy, Cypheruses are the only Grem type people really care about anymore. Of course, if you all remember last year, Cypheruses suffered a similar fate the manta MYO slot sale did.

Staff give updates, but the updates are near-meaningless because, even over time, they don't seem to be taking the group or game anywhere. With how middling sales have been, I also don't know how they're going to hire coders to expand the site and it's hard to imagine any of them putting in the work to learn how to code themselves. It'll even be a hard sell roping in someone from the community because (a) there are so few active members and (b) they'll want a Cypherus MYO because writing code is hard.

Once Densy finds another route to make as much money doing as few adoptables as possible, Grems will be cold.

I don't know if anyone's noticed, but Densy wants max results for criminally min effort. She wants to be popular (in the money-making sense) without having to be sociable or put out more than a handful of on-base designs a month. If she does turn into a one-off popular artist, she's likely to end up with a reputation like Maws, because she doesn't like effort and is incapable of taking responsibility for anything.

Meynnart Wewyck’s workshop-part 5: Henry VII holding sword

As always, part 1 was proven works of Meynnart Wewyck, fallowing parts are my suggestion of what might be by his workshop. My suggestions merely.

I was looking very long for portrait which was inspiration for drawing of Henry VII with sword I found earlier. Got it:

Well, not actually. It is a drawing in collection of Ashmolean Museum-not an original portrait. I don’t think artist captured Henry VII’s face that well, however recognizably from all versions of Henry VII’s portraits it matches well with the one confirmed to be by Meynnart Wewyck:

(Obviouslly the features are overexagerated a bit.) And the way fur is sketched(even in this drawing)it strongly reminds you of others by his workshop. So much so, that you have to wonder-since this is labelled by Ashmolean museum as 16th century, when exactly in 16th century was this made? Could it be sketch by Wewyck’s workshop? Idk tbh.

But i have good idea when the portrait was made.

I believe it was made to be deliberately shown near portrait of Richard III with broken sword:

I don’t think I have to explain symbolism here. Hence probably they were done around same time. We know tree for Richard’s portrait was felled in 1515, so this is porobably posthumous painting of Henry VII, done probably between 1515-1525, when Wewyck’s workshop was still active.

The posture of hand suggest there also might have been Elizabeth of York’s matching portrait. I flipped one engraving(which are usually mirror of image) to face correct way and it fits nicely:

Prior I assumed the position of hand was alteration(made-up).

There is just one problem with this portrait. I have done 4 post about Wewyck’s work prior and went over many different versions of Henry VII’s portraits. Some of which you have never seen prior! And plenty of them also posthumously done-but based upon earlier contemporary portrait.

But I have never found any would be based same portrait as this one!

It’s clearly based upon missing original-of which no copy exists beside this, as far as I am aware. Which by itself is weird.

We don’t know the difference between summer, autumn, winter outfits in Henry VII’s lifetime. It is possible this cloak is simply what they wore when it was very cold and in other portraits we see them in less cold-hence the slashes in sleeves.

However there is no hat brooch, this exact shape of hat not matching any portrait. Although pretty good match to the bust(just more flat in portrait):

I believe i saw somewhere the heavy collar which is lining top of his cloth of gold. Probably in Henry VIII’s portraits, but that fishtail necklace? Never seen it before.

It’s beyond odd to me. It’s very atypical likeness of him.

I have found just one other portrait-bellow where he(or perhaps one of his sons) has no hat brooch, and probably no slashes. Yet sometimes these things were altered out by mistake, even upon originals. But it doesn’t seem to be the case with one with sword.

And it makes me wonder about the dating, and long story short anywhere after 1495, up to Henry VII’s death.

Similiar cloaks are on iluminations as early as end of Edward IV’s reign, and are as late as 1510s.

Non-slashed sleeves are coexisting fashion to cloaks with big slash(or rather opening of sleeves):

However these type of wider sleeves, going to the ground, that’s typical for c.1495-1515, which is beyond range we already had. The fashion doesn’t help in slightest to narrow it down.

The bust does. I know wiki says the sculptor Pietro Torrigiano arrived to England only in 1509 and made bust according to death-mask of Henry VII, but some historians believe he could be in England early as 1506/1507 and create King from life. Imo had it been from death-mask, the features would look much weirder. I believe likeness of Queen Isabella’s tomb was based upon death-mask, but not Henry’s bust.

Imo bust could have been from life, towards Henry VII’s reign, and the cloak dates to those years also, hence the outfit is probably from 1500-1510.

As for the jewelry, the one lining cloth of gold-that’s part of royal collection. Fishtail necklace i have never seen before. And closest to it I recall is the one on picture(on right) which is commonly mislabelled as Perkin Warbeck, but is actually one of Henry VII’s sons. And that one is from c.1502. So the necklaces could be from 1490s.

But the painting is probably posthumous, because it matches Richard’s-and tree used to make that one was felled in 1515, probably used in 1520s or later. So it was probably painting created for Henry VIII, him promoting his dynasty.

Chapter 8

Warnings: swearing, angst and a splash of smut.

Notes: I'm sorry this chapter took so long but I've been struggling. I knew where I was going but trying to get it how I wanted was a challenge. I hope it was worth the wait.

There will be another chapter to wrap it all up but this is the big climax. Enjoy.

Steves retirement party is today. He and Sharon have been a bipolar couple, either fighting or fucking, not much in between except in those few moments of warm haze after sex. Sharon was never satisfied with anything. The house, him, the team's icy treatment. Everything was a drama but every time Steve was really considering ending it she would seduce him back into her bubble.

No one was really looking forward to the party except for the fact that Steve and Sharon would be moving out the next day. They were all exhausted with Sharon and her constant bitching but also of Steve and his whining and waffling. He would go back and forth from the good man they thought they knew to the arrogant Captain America who felt entitled to everyone's adoration.

At least Thor and Val would be there with some Asgardian liquor.

BB, Nat and Wanda were relaxing over brunch discussing the evenings activities

Wanda took a sip of her mimosa and giggled at the bubbles "I just want this all over with and Sharon away from the compound. The animosity and stress is getting to me. Every time I'm anywhere near her all I feel is her hatred for the team. I don't know what Steve sees in her."

Nat nodded "It's like he's under a spell but a really bad one that keeps slipping when they aren't fucking"

BB smiled sadly "I don't know what's happening but he's not the Steve I thought I knew.

Wanda, you'd be able to tell if she was using any kind of magic, right?"

Wanda nodded "Most likely. I'd get some kind of vibe off of them but all I feel from them is anger and lust. Those emotions are too prominent for me to read any thoughts."

BB sighed "I feel that too. It makes them so uncomfortable to be around."

Nat rubbed BBs thigh "enough of that, soon they won't be our problem anymore.

So, Wanda what are you and Vis wearing? Bucky has a copy of his Army uniform that Tony had made for him and BB and I coordinated our dresses so should look pretty hot. It's our first public outing as a throuple so we want to impress. No press but Tony will have a photographer and pics are going to People magazine exclusively so they will notice us. We've even been practicing dancing together."

Nats smile was infectious and Wanda couldn't help but tease her "You seem happier than when you married Bucky. Should he be jealous? Are you and BB gonna run away on him."

Nat giggled "No. We're not going anywhere. I was so happy when we got married but BB was always our missing piece. She was happy with Steve and he was happy with her so we didn't want to mess with it but back in the day it was always the three of us."

"I'm not complaining, the lust and contentment I get from the three of you is so sweet and gets me started. Vis isn't complaining" Wanda smirked.

BB has to tease "So happy our feelings are helping your sex life. One of these days you'll have to give us some details."

Wanda blushed and hid her face while Nat and BB laughed. Maybe this could be a good day.

Steve and Sharon had slept late after staying up half the night tangled up in each other. He watched her while she slept, she was so beautiful. Especially when she wasn't nagging him about one thing or another. He had convinced himself it would get better when they moved out away from the team. They would have their own space without the animosity the team was still radiating. He had believed everyone would come to accept his relationship with Sharon but they were still angry over how he treated BB. Bucky still wouldn't talk to him outside of Avengers business and he missed his friend. After all they had been through Bucky let a woman come between them.

He knew there was something going on with BB and Bucky and Nat. They were always together and BB looked at them the way she used to look at him.

Steve thought about BB for a minute and smiled sadly, she really was incredible. He felt bad for everything but he wanted kids so bad he could taste it and BB couldn't give him any. It was a shame but life was full of them and he moved on.

He started softly running his fingers over Sharon's body to distract himself from thinking about BB. She moaned softly and her eyes fluttered open. "Already Captain? How do you still have any energy after last night?" She rolled over on her back to give him more access. Steve pushed BB out of his head and drowned himself in Sharon.

Once they finally got up Steve went to work out but Sharon declined using the hours of sex as an excuse claiming she'd had enough exercise.

Bucky and Sam were having lunch after spending some time sparring after a morning run when Steve wandered into the kitchen. Steve greeted them both, Sam waved and Bucky just nodded in response.

Steve sighed "Is everyone gonna hate me forever? Don't I deserve to have the American dream after all these years defending it? Why don't my so called friends want me to be happy?"

Reader is low on self esteem when she meets Bucky. Can he convince her that she's the one he wants?

Chapter 2

Warnings: swearing, mostly fluff with a little angst

When he hadn't contacted her for 2 days Y/N officially gave up. It was nice for a minute but her experience told her that guys who looked like James didn't have relationships with girls like her. She hadn't seen Terri all weekend so she was spared the questioning but it didn't make her feel any better. After drinking way too much on Sunday afternoon she slept fitfully and showed up at work hungover, never removing her sunglasses until she returned home that night. When Sheila tried to ask about her data, Y/N just shook her head and Sheila let it go.

When she saw Terri, her friend didn't even need to ask, she knew by the look on her face and hugged her.

Y/N pulled away "It's fine, nothing that hasn't happened a hundred times before. I don't really want to talk about it" and poured a glass of wine to take to her room. "I'm really tired. I'm going to take a bath and crash."

Terri nodded, worried about her friend but unsure of how to help without making things worse. Calling Sam to bitch him out about his friend came to mind but it went straight to voicemail.

On Wednesday Bucky finally had a minute to breathe and was in a place where he had a signal so tried to call Y/N but kept getting her voicemail. He texted her, frustrated but figuring she was at work only sent one and tried to relax while he could.

Y/N overslept on Wed and forgot to grab her phone so was antsy all day at work. The office was chaotic because some big executive that was just hired wanted to tour the offices and look for ways to cut costs. That usually meant layoffs so everyone was in a tizzy trying to look perfect.

When she got home her phone was dead since she had forgotten to plug it in so she had to charge it while she made dinner. When she sat down to eat she grabbed her phone to see what she missed. She was shocked to see a bunch of missed calls one voicemail and one text from James. He apologized profusely and at great length, explained he was called away for an emergency and without a signal most of the time. She tried to call him but it wouldn't go through so sent a text and laid down to read while she waited to hear from him again. She fell asleep without hearing from him.

After 2 days of playing phone tag Bucky was relieved when he was finally able to get through to speak with her. He apologized some more, she was skeptical but agreed to give him a second chance with a warning that it would be the last one. They scheduled a date for the coming Tuesday for dinner at the same diner and he promised up and down that he would be there and explain everything.

Y/N got a text from James on Tuesday morning confirming their date and had to talk herself down from getting too excited. As Terri helped her with her make up she warned her "He better not flake again or I'll kick his ass. I don't care who his friends are" which made Y/N laugh.

Her boss was being a tool again, everyone had to document their typical work day and basically prove to the new management that they were worth keeping on and lower management was stressed and stretched thin. She ran late again but was happy to find him waiting for her this time. With flowers in his hand. She felt her stomach flutter.

"James! I'm so sorry I'm late. My supervisor was being a pill all day and wanted to talk to me which made me miss my train. I hope you can forgive me" she fluttered her eyes at him while sporting a cheesy grin.

James laughed softly "I'm pretty sure that bosses being difficult is an acceptable excuse for tardiness in the book of dating rules but don't let it happen again. Besides you look beautiful and I'm not sure I could stay upset with you if I tried."

Y/N noticed his eyes sparkle when he smiled and got lost for a minute when she realized he was trying to get her attention. "Wait, what?"

He couldn't stop smiling "Where did you go?"

She felt her face heat up and hoped he couldn't tell "You have such pretty eyes" she blurted out before she could stop herself. She covered her mouth, mortified "Sorry, just a little striking. I couldn't see them when we met."

He blushed at the compliment "Thank you but You don't need to apologize for complimenting me, doll. My eyes don't hold a candle to yours. You're even prettier than I remember. Why don't we go inside?"

A waitress approached them, looked Bucky up and down then looked surprised when she saw Y/N was with him "Hey Y/N, who's your handsome friend?"

"Hey Cindy, this is James. James, this is Cindy."

Cindy put on her best flirtatious smile "Hi James"

Bucky smiled and nodded "Cindy, nice to meet you" then turned to Y/N which made Cindy huff out in annoyance.

Once they were seated and looking at the menu Y/N spoke up "So how does a guy named James get Bucky for a nickname? Braces? Bucked off of a horse?"

He laughed softly "My middle name is Buchanan and there were too many James' on my block growing up."

She laughed with him. "I guess it's not too bad, I've heard worse nicknames but I like James better"

Bucky blushed and felt butterflies in his stomach at the way she said James. "When I was a kid only my ma ever called me James but I'll give you a special dispensation" and smiled

Y/N felt her insides turning around and a tingle in her core when he smiled at her. This man is beautiful she thought to herself. And the way his nose crinkled when he laughed! All the more reason to keep her hopes in control. She had a ton of male friends, 'You're such a great girl with the best personality but I just don't see you that way. More like a little sister' Guys act like they're the only ones trapped in the friend zone. No way would someone this sweet and funny and good looking want her.

Bucky Barnes x Reader

Reader is low on self esteem when she meets Bucky. Can he convince her that she's the one he wants?

Warning: swearing and a little angst. Almost Canon compliant

Notes: just a simple story. Might be a couple of chapters if anyone is interested. Much of the situations, people and dialogue are from my real life. The names have been changed to protect the innocent. Let me know what you think or if I should keep going.

Y/N and her bff/roommate, Terri, were putting on the finishing touches before going out. "Terri, do we always have to go dancing? Once in a while I'd like to go somewhere that plays rock n roll, I'm full up on EDM and dance pop"

"Next time, I promise but I heard this club is supposed to be really good."

Y/N looked down on her tiny friend, being almost 6 feet herself "Good like great music or good like lots of hot guys?"

Terri smirked "Why not both?"

She sighed, maybe this place would be different. Every club or bar they went to all the guys flocked to Terri's side and she was practically ignored by everyone but the bartender. She didn't blame Terri, it wasn't her fault that she was a natural platinum blonde who tans like a freak and was a genius with make-up and clothes. Y/N on the other hand was tall, taller than a lot of men, curvy wearing a size 14 compared to Terri's size 2 and barely wore make-up. Life was too short to spend hours on your face.

It wasn't different. She sat at the table while guys lined up to dance with Terri. A couple bought Y/N drinks and tried to chat her up but it didn't take long for them to start asking about Terri. One guy that looked old enough to be her father but with his shirt unbuttoned and way too tight pants did ask her to dance but she couldn't bring herself to say yes.

After that she stopped agreeing to go out, claiming work or a headache or cramps or anything she could think of that might convince Terri to leave her out of it.

After a couple of months, Terri had enough.

"Y/N! I'm home now come on, we're going out tonite!" the door slammed as Terri walked in.

Y/N sighed "But Terri, I have a meeting in the morning and can't be out late drinking"

"No, no, no. You haven't left the house for anything but work in months. When is the last time you had a date or got laid? You'll never meet anyone like this." Terri scolded

Y/N shook her head "Like I'll find some meaningful connection at a bar. Geez, you sound like my aunt."

"Maybe but I'll bet your aunt has gotten laid more recently than you have" Terri teased

Y/N rolled her eyes, her aunt was a party girl who never grew out of it even in her 50's "Keep up that kind of talk and you'll turn me off of sex forever. Definitely for tonight"

"Oh no you don't. Freshen up and let's go."

"Fine but two drinks and I'm coming home. I really do have a meeting." Y/N smirked "and we better go somewhere that plays some rock."

At the club Terri picked up the first round and started looking around the room for potential victims. She stopped when she saw a good looking guy with a beautiful smile and gap between his front teeth and a brunette sitting together with her nemesis Tina Larson hanging all over the smile.

She nudged Y/N "Look at Tina, sleazing all over tall dark and handsome. I'll bet you the next round I can steal him away from her. I'll even direct the brunette towards you, his hair is kinda long, like you like."

Y/N's eyes got wide "Isn't that-?" Terri nodded.

Y/N shook her head "That's a sucker bet, no guy actually wants Tina Larson all over him and all of them want you. The brunette is cute but not my type."

Terri scoffed "He's totally your type! Why are you talking yourself out of it without even meeting him?"

Y/N shook her head "Because none of them even look at me when I'm with you. Remember last time? You had like 8 guys clamoring to get near you and a creepy senior citizen asked me to dance. Go get handsome but leave me out of your schemes."

She pulled out her phone to keep busy while Terri worked. She was distracted from her phone when Terri came back with TD&H and his friend. Smirking at Tina who was glaring daggers at Terri.

Terri sat on the smiles lap "Y/N, this is Sam and James, boys this is Y/N."

Life is Like a Box of Legos...You Build with What You Get

Another moment that was a painful today. Selling my Legos. 30 plus years of memories in that box, and some lucky guy on Facebook Marketplace bought it off me for a song.

I mean, I don’t want to ruminate on it. Yes, I can buy more Legos...someday. But...no. I have to fight that thought. The VERY reason those little plastic bricks had any significance to me was the people behind those memories. That’s it. If anything, one has to sometimes do painful things in order to grow and move forward.

I’ve often found that when I am around loving people, doing the things that truly matter to me, that truly fulfill me, that the things I have to give up (more like, the process of putting the past behind me) isn’t anywhere near as hard or painful. Which plays into what I’ve been thinking about technology, and my relationship with it, and my connections with people online.

The loss of the past only feels as painful as my sense of lack of hope and optimism for the here and now, and the future. I hold onto the past, because it seems so ideal, so much better than what I have in the here and now. And we as humans hold onto those symbols of the past, as if they were they themselves contain the past and the times we reminisce over. We forget, once again, it’s about the people around those memories that made them what they are. Not merely some pile of plastic bricks, or a house with four walls, or even a yard with some trees and basketball net.

And the believe that the only reason that thinking about putting technology and “online relationships” to the sidelines is such a painful proposition to me, is because it’s by and large made up a huge part of my reality. My sense of the “outside world” and everything else has largely come through a screen.

Even as a child, I remember that while I welcomed the times of meeting other people, of doing group activities, of playing with the neighborhood kids (good ol’ 90’s vibes all around), I would often find myself being drawn to being isolated, while staring at a screen. I have too many memories of myself choosing to avoid social interaction, and instead flying that virtual helicopter, commanding that fake army, or trying to keep Mario dying for the 100th time. I see now that those patterns of being very sensitive and a bit socially inept in new situations, together with a past history of being misjudged as a young man, have really conflicted with my ability to just not care if people see things different than I do, to just be comfortable in my own skin, and not care so much about how I measure up to others’ standards.

To this day, whenever I’m around when a disagreement or misunderstanding happens (whether it be online, and especially, in person), I get so incredibly uncomfortable. I don’t want to say the wrong thing and make things worse, and then end up blaming myself. I do realize that part of that also stems from me having schisms, so to speak, between myself and others, and having them dislike or distance themselves from me. I guess you could say I’m always wondering, “Oh no, did I do or say something wrong yet again?”

Circling back to what I was saying, I do think too much of my childhood was me avoiding living real life, even though I did “allow myself” to live it at times, and those ended up forming some of the best memories. But then I’m constantly asking myself this question: “To what end?” To what end was my frolicking, my Lego building, my escapism, my fort building, whatever it may have been? Yes, I know, I must be more kind and forgiving to my “former self”, but I 100% know that I didn’t grow up fast enough. Back to what I was saying several posts ago, there must be that child-like wonder and playfulness, but it should be tempered with a very real sense of living “real life”. To me, that means showing kindness and sacrifice to others in your words and actions.

I may only be 32, but I still have more than enough regret that I lived too much of my life selfishly. The childhood escapism stretched into my teens and twenties. It wasn’t uncommon for me to leave home on my bicycle, and spend hours at the local library. That very well may have been the “ideal drug” for me at the time. I was able to waste hours on YouTube and elsewhere (hello, NewGrounds and MiniClip), while still not feeling entirely isolated.

But I lost track of the times I would go home, be alone even more with the videos I downloaded and took back with me, or the DVDs, or the freeware video games I had hunted down, and then go to sleep feeling worse. And then waking up, dreading the next day. I honestly don’t know what’s worse: biking long quiet stretches in the countryside just to be alone more, or being alone in suburbia, where you feel so closed in and stifled.

It’s a strange dichotomy. You hate being alone, to the point that it can outright crush you, but then you feel ill at ease around others, because you feel that you have nothing to offer, like life is more than just going from one gathering to the next, it’s more than just filling up your time with learning knowledge.

Again, truly living to me, is making everywhere you go better, maybe even just that room you’re in right now. Truly living is exploring and discovering life, and the world, together with others, it’s about building things and growing together in the real world. Because life spent alone with listlessness and regret is a horrible thing.

So, what are my biggest struggles right now? Simply forgiving my past self, and putting the past behind me, namely the past I had not even 5 years ago. And then beyond that, looking ahead to the future with optimism and hope, deciding that I can and MUST make decisions that will lead me to seeing my life as fulfilling and purposeful, and rejecting the stuff that just simply doesn’t help towards that end. Yeah, I get that this still seems like an abstract idea.

But circling back to what I was saying about technology, in this day and age, it is increasingly easy to try to replace that emptiness in our hears with more podcasts, more videos, more Discord servers full of people who we will probably won’t see face to face.

If the answer was technology, why are we less happy now, less fulfilled than we used to be before the internet and the age of smartphones helped crush our child-like sense of awe, of creativity, of hope, of optimism?

It’s time for me and whomever reads this to do some deep soul searching. Because at the end of the day, when I finish the novel I’m reading right now, Captain Nemo and Professor Aronnax will have parted ways with me, and they will remain fictional characters. This isn’t me saying fictional books are bad. No, especially since they help to foster those very things I listed above. What I’m saying is that it’s time for me to stop substituting escapism and vicarious living for accomplish great things in the real world.

I know quite clearly that I just basically had you drag an anvil through mud there. Hopefully this served some good purpose, and the next entry will reflect more of that hope and joy I so clearly desire.

Midori: I put it in the fridge to keep it nice and cool, and he just went and ate it like nothing! Can you believe that!?

Mao: Takamine~!

Midori: Hmm...? Did someone just call my name...?

Mao: Heeey, Takamine~!

Midori: Huh? Isara-senpai...? Good work today. Did something happen?

Mao: Good work yourself! I tried asking you if you'd like to go back to the dorms together, but you were gone as soon as I dismissed the club~. I had to really leg it to catch up to you.

Midori: Umm, together...? What happened all of a sudden? Did I mess up during today’s club activities?

Mao: Nah, you're good. But it's nice to walk together every now and then, don'tcha think? We're both going back to the dorms anyway. ♪

Midori: Huh... Eh, I guess it’s fine...

Mao: Hey, you good? You seem kinda tired, Takamine.

Midori: Well, of course I’d get tired after a whole match on the court... Also, wasn’t today’s training a bit harder than usual?

See, normally I'm surrounded by people who worry me silly if I don't know how they're doing. It's what I get in exchange for all the stress-related stomachaches I've had in the past.

But ‘cause I don’t get why I feel so down, I start overthinking it... Then I get depressed thinking about how narrow-minded I am...

Midori: Well... My brother’s getting married soon.

So when my brother finally passed the bar exam, he took this as an opportunity to jump a step ahead and live together with her.

Mao: Whoa, the bar exam?! So he's going into law?

Midori: Haaah... Yeah, I guess.

Mao: Your brother's amazing~.

Midori: Not really. It took him forever to pass the exam... Well, okay fine, the fact that he kept trying until he passed is pretty amazing, but...

That doesn’t change the fact that he’s always been so selfish.

Like, when I’m watching TV on the sofa, he comes over and squeezes his whole damn body on the sofa, while kicking me to the side. He doesn’t change the channel or anything, though.

Mao: Uh huh.

Midori: Whenever I’m about to go shopping, he barges in and makes me buy stuff for him too. But I guess it’s fine ‘cause he lets me buy whatever I like with the change.

Mao: Right.

Midori: Ah, that’s right...! Just the other day, he ate the collab pudding Purapurupurin that I was planning on enjoying after dinner...! I put it in the fridge to keep it nice and cool, and he just went and ate it like nothing! Can you believe that!?

Though after that he bought me a Purapurupurin plushie and my anger simmered down.

Mao: ... I see?

Midori: Anyways, he’s very selfish. He decides to get married out of nowhere and leaves home literally right after.

Like, I visited my family just a while back on my day off, but he was already at his new place by that point.. My fucking brother is too damn impulsive with everything.

We were always a family together at home, with him as my big brother and me as his younger brother... But now that he’s building a new family, he just dips out like it’s nothing... He really is way too selfish.

Haaah... My parents are super happy for him, but I just can't stand that selfishness... I can’t give them my blessing, and ‘cause of that I get gloomy...

My own narrow-mindedness makes me depressed...

Ok so this all starts with THIS

Impa states that it would take you half a day, about 12 hours, to travel from Kakariko Village to the depicted 13th memory, which is at Ash Swamp by Fort Hateno.

Now here is where I took this information. I took it to

A fantastic online Botw map resource with tons of features like finding specific objects, and highlighting areas, and placing pins, and the basics of showing the locations of everything like shrines and korok seeds and all that.

BUT the thing that we care about today is this ability, here:

With those widgets on the right, I can specifically mark lines and shapes and the website will give me the distance of it in meters!

“But Kip, if the map already gives you the distance of anything you want then isn’t this entire post pointless?” Ashshshshshhshh no, shut the fuck up, shush shut, no, stop, silence, I am high on caffeine and I haven’t slept for two days. No.

As great as the map is, the exact ratio isn’t the best. Like, it tells me that the length of Hyrule is only 10km, or 6.2 miles.

I wager that realistically, Hyrule would be a bit bigger than that. And THAT, is where I come in. Or, more specifically, Impa.

Impa states that it takes 12 hours to travel from Kakariko to Fort Hateno. (I am saying Fort Hateno and not Ash Swamp because I am going of the nearest prominent landmark location near the 13th memory, and I highly doubt that Impa knew the exactly square foot patch of dirt that Link needed to stand on to activate his memory)

According to Google, it takes around 10 to 12 minutes to walk a kilometer. (I am assuming Impa was referring to walking and not riding, because I feel like she would have said, “You should be able to get there in half a day’s ride” or something of the sort. So, walking it is)

So:

12 hours divided by 12 minutes

(Which is 720 minutes / 12 minutes)

gives us

The distance between Fort Hateno and Kakariko village is 60 kilometers.

Badabing badaboom, great job! We did it. BUT NOW this is where our handy dandy online object map comes in.

So while this map doesn’t give me distances that are exactly to my liking, it DOES give me a measuring means that will stay consistent. SO! As you can see, the map says Kakariko to Fort Hateno is 1.89km. (And just to be safe, I also did the distance exactly to the point of the 13th memory as shown in Impa’s picture, which came out to 1.55km. But! It’s doesn’t matter anyhow, because) We’re going to round this to 2km for the sake of my sanity because surprise surprise! I actually suck at, and hate, math.

So the map says Kakariko to Fort Hateno is 2 kilometers, but we know that in real life, the distance is actually 60 kilometers. So, if you want to use this object map effectively, you have to make a means of converting the “false” measurements, (which I will be refering to as “zelda” (kilo)meters, or zm/zkm) from the actual ones.

So THIS is what I fucking did oh my god help me it took me way too long even though it was really simple in hindsight I was just stupid and spent two hours trying to get the ratio equations right when really all I had to do was divide, it was a whole thing, anyhow, read away.

The map of Hyrule measures roughly 10zkm (length) by 8zkm (height) [typo, I meant width] giving it an area of 80 square zkm.

SO ARMED WITH THIS NEW KNOWLEDGE, you can now use this map to measure whatever you want, and by converting 1zm to 30 meters, you can get accurate result as to what that distance is.

Chart the roads, measure the rivers, the map even gives area tools for polygons, squares, and circles! This entire post was born out of a desire to see how long the characters in my fic should rest for when travel between different stables.

Now before anyone asks, yes! 2400 square kilometers is fairly small. That’s around 930 square miles. I believe even Wales is more than three times bigger than that. BUT! Considering Hyrule is a medieval kingdom that’s actually pretty sizable considering the average size of a Kingdom was 100 to 900 square kilometers.

And juuuust to double check, I ran the size though a Medievil Demographics generator, and 2400 (under the conditions of Fertile Land with 64% of the land being arable since I figured roughly 46% for lakes, the ocean, plus unusable land was more than enough to cover the Hebra, Death Mountain, and the Gerudo Desert. Which honestly is even MORE generous considering there are races that occupy these areas, but I digress) This still gives Hyrule Kingdom a good population of 108,000 people! Before the Calamity when all of its villages were up and occupied, of course. So the area is definitely more than enough, and can still give Link a more realistic amount of time to travel between areas (when you add eating and rest of course. Don’t make my guy walk for 10 hours straight from the Great Plateau to Hebra D: plz)

TL;DR: Hyrule is 2400 square kilometers; use the map, plus the conversion 1 zelda meter to 30 meters to measure anything you want; I am tired

Quick Edit: Please note that this conversion is for the purposes of people out there who need more realistic means of measuring distances for larger scale travel and such, like for writing fic journeys, or dnd campaigns. This conversion isn’t the best for smaller scale measure like buildings and such (EX: I’ve checked with buildings in Castle Town and the Coliseum, and they come out much too big, just a symptom of game design ratios not being perfect since it’s hard to balance consistent measurements and the immersion and plan a creator has for their game world!) So if you are measuring those smaller entities using the linked map, just stick with the given zelda meters! (EX: The Coliseum radius in zelda meters matches up nicely with the real world Roman Colosseum, beating it out by a few dozen meters!)
