Aspec men deserve much more respect and recognition in the aspec community than they receive. They often face a different form of aphobia specific to them ("men are naturally sexual they can't be ace" "all men are unromantic that's not unique") this rhetoric is spouted by many, even members of our own community and I hope for a day where that is no longer the case. As an ace and demiro woman (demigirl but that's beside the point) I want to encourage folks to take the time to give the aspec men in their lives support and to the aspec men reading, you are who you say you are no matter what people say and you deserve the world. I'm sorry for the ways in which toxic masculinity has harmed you. You are a valued member of the aspec community and the queer community as a whole. No ace or aro person is broken and neither are you. I'm sorry if anyone has ever told you otherwise.

Patches The Plush Rabbit

Finally time for me to share this little dude with the internet.

So, Patches was made long ago a few years before America was colonized. He was created by a craftsman for a little girl named Linda. Linda adored him. A few years later, Patches, Linda and her family immigrated to America. They settled in a peaceful town, perfect for their family to live in. At the time they arrived and settled in a town, Linda was a teenager, so it had been many years since she first got Patches. One day, she found a spell book in the woods. She decided to secretly start practicing magic. Or as the villagers called it, “witchcraft.” Linda wanted to help make the world happier with the power of magic. After a lot of practice, Linda decided to use one of the spells she learned. She used a spell on Patches, which resulted in Patches coming to life! Linda was delighted that her favorite plush was now a living thing she could talk to. She taught him basic rules and other things about life. They were best friends.

Years later, when Linda was an adult, the townsfolk had unfortunately caught onto Linda secretly practicing witchcraft. The villagers surrounded her house, armed with pitchforks and torches. Linda told Patches to stay hidden and stay calm, which is difficult to do when there is an angry mob outside your house. They demanded for Linda to leave the house. When she didn’t comply, they set the house on fire. Patches thought that she was asleep, and tried to wake her up. When that didn’t work, he just dragged her outside and waited for her to wake up. Unfortunately, Linda had never explained what death was, so Patches didn’t understand what happened to Linda. He waited,

waited,

and waited.

But she never woke up.

Many years later, in modern times, Patches comes back to find Linda gone. He believed that she had just gone looking for him or when to get something. He believed that they would find each other sooner or later. If only Patches knew…
