Do Dogday and Catnap ever have those moments where they slowly but surely begin to bond with each other in your AU?

no.

i honestly don’t think the two could ever really get along again after all that’s happened between them.

in the survivor au, dogday won’t forgive catnap for killing all his friends and his zealous worship of the prototype (and in the saved au, he's not about to forgive the one who tore his lower half from him). the feline betrayed his friends, the only ones who really understood what it meant to be like him.

not to mention all the times catnap tried and failed to kill dogday. the only reason he survived was because he managed to be quick enough with a metal beam or a broken pipe when catnap tried to ambush him. the two have spent years fighting.

and to top it all off, dogday will never trust catnap around y/n. it doesn't matter that he has no reason to hurt them anymore, dogday wouldn't put it past catnap to try and get some sort of petty revenge on him by killing his favorite person (it doesn't matter that catnap seems to be worshipping them now). he can barely tolerate catnap living on the same property as him, let alone how that monster vies for y/n's attention.

the dog will never let his gaurd down around catnap again, especially not when y/n is around.

his angel may be willing to try to forgive, but dogday is not. the moment he can find an excuse, dogday will beat catnap to a pulp.

I do love Celebrimbor takes where post-death/rebirth he actually has very little to say to his family until they show some signs of remorse or personal growth from the atrocities they committed in Middle-earth.

ROTTMNT Theory: Donatello's Hidden Role

After rewatching ROTTMNT (shorts and movie included), I realized something about Donnie's character that I've hardly seen anyone mention, and I'm going to talk about it in depth here.

I'll assume you've already watched the series and dive right in, but spoiler warning under the cut in case you care about that.

Let me start with something seemingly off topic. Raph is the oldest of the four brothers, which landed him the responsibility of keeping his younger siblings safe when their father was unavailable. (Not trying to bash Splinter. He's gradually grown to be a better parent later on, but you can't deny he was fairly neglectful in the beginning of the series)

The constant pressure Raph went through was brought up in the episode "Anatawa Hitorijanai", and then the movie showed he still struggles with it now.

He's constantly shouldering the burden of being their family's sole protector, but is this the truth? What if I told you there are actually two protectors in the family? And that the other one was Donnie all along?

When you look closely, Donnie is surprisingly protective of his loved ones. I did a tally of how often each brother exhibits what could be protective behavior, and Donnie was in second place (29) after Raph (35). Some of these choices are debatable, but here's a bunch of examples as pictures.

Would you believe me if I told you I still have a couple smaller examples I had to leave out due to the picture limit? And that's not even including the few moments where Donnie and Raph ever-so-subtly parallel each other.

All things considered, Donnie and Raph aren't so different. Raph is the primary protector who faces the threats head-on with his physical strength, while Donnie is the secondary protector who tends to use more distant methods with his tech and wit. However, when push comes to shove, Donnie will also step up to take direct action when he deems it necessary.

They may be the brains and the brawn, but they both use their respective skills to defend and support their family.

maybe i'm missing something here, but it always confuses me when i see things like "some autistic people are disabled by their autism and some aren't" or "not everyone sees their autism as a disability". because... autism very much is a disability?! if you're autistic, then your symptoms must be present in a way that is disabling to you in your everyday life. it's literally in the diagnostic criteria. of course the extent to and areas in which you're disabled can vary greatly depending on the individual, but disability is part of the basic definition of autism, regardless of your personal feelings on the matter.

don't get me wrong, it's still much better than "autism is only a disability because of capitalism" because at least it doesn't make sweeping generalisations that aren't even remotely accurate to the lived reality of most autistic people. but it still perpetuates incorrect assumptions under the guise of personal choice, and honestly feels like an attempt to distance autism from disability in general. being disabled is nothing to be ashamed of, and i wish people wouldn't twist the meaning of autism to remove disability from it.

(and yes, that goes for level 1/low support needs autistics as well. i would be considered level 1 (though i wasn't diagnosed that way) and i'm still disabled by my autism! not to the same extent as many other people, sure, but i'm still disabled. if i wasn't, i wouldn't be autistic.)

Any thoughts on what's up with the Accelerated Dynamics nightmare dungeon? The obvious surface is about corporate greed, but how does that relate directly to Jimmy's life like the other nightmare dungeons do?

i've been slacking on the analysis posts a hell of a lot but this is one of the dungeons i've been looking for an opportunity to talk about because it's another one of those inclusions in jatpm that i think gets overlooked because it doesn't have an immediately obvious interpretation like some others do (or, as obvious as is possible for your average jimmy fan). i've done a lot of thinking about it, and a while back had this realization (slight tw for very very brief suicide mention, also obvious spoilers ahead):

kasey definitely put a lot of his own personal grievances with capitalism into accelerated dynamics, but in my opinion it's an incomplete picture without taking megatropolis as a whole into consideration. terminal illness is extremely costly to treat and particularly in the US, it's (in my experience) much more terrifying to imagine being unable to afford the cost of healthcare than it is to actually fall ill and require treatment. even with insurance covering the cost of medical supplies and bills most people continue to struggle to feed, clothe, and house themselves, and that's assuming they do have health insurance that covers the right necessities to begin with.

i say this because i doubt jimmy's cancer treatment was at all affordable given that he's already been through chemotherapy once before, and has spent the entirety of his second battle comatose while his family continues to work not just to support themselves, but to try and save his life. this isn't to argue that money troubles were absolutely a factor in his family's life because of his illness because we don't know much at all about their financial situation--more that this is a terrifying reality for many, many families fighting illnesses, and megatropolis is representative of something that jimmy and his family don't have the luxury of anymore: leisure.

accelerated dynamics is set in a sprawling city landmarked by arcades, shopping malls, theaters, toy company headquarters, and a massive school campus, all adjacent to a high-class beach resort. it's a stark contrast in atmosphere that was likely very intentional--accelerated dynamics is devoid of personality and wonder in comparison to bonita vista or even shinryu and features workplace ambience as its area theme and visuals of skeletal employees hanged outside the office windows. i think a lot of people were incredibly disappointed in mr grouse as a character to see that his humble beginnings had led him to this point, but i think the commentary runs a lot deeper and touches on this incredibly grave aspect of illness and thus jimmy's personal life that can be easy to miss for the trees; mr grouse tells jimmy before the fight that he used to dream of his banking business growing bigger and bigger and that now, with the advent of it having grown so big that it's now expanded into an entire enterprise, he understands the power and influence that money can buy him, but more than anything he now conceptualizes how terrifying it is to lose that wealth.

his dialogue after the fight is an admission that wealth completely and utterly eroded his morals and that jimmy should enjoy his innocence while he can--this is the incomprehensible, horrifying world of adulthood that he couldn't possibly understand at this age--and it's very clear that this is (one of) the intended angle(s) of this dungeon's theme where jimmy will never live long enough to understand the complications of growing older and losing his innocence to concepts like late stage capitalism, but mr grouse phrases his dialogue like an earnest request for reflection, something for jimmy to consider in a way that his brain can more easily deconstruct--think of all the things you could do if you had practically infinite wealth, and the only thing you had to worry about was not having money.

if jimmy and his family had infinite wealth, then maybe they'd be able to afford luxury resorts and theme parks and theaters and shopping trips again. if jimmy and his family had infinite wealth, maybe they wouldn't need to work themselves into an early grave over their child's deathbed.

#i don't know if i worded this the greatest because it's still a struggle for me to write for extended periods #but i articulated as best i could about my thoughts re: capitalism and wealth for this dungeon #like i said the obvious angle here is jimmy being unable to understand the inner workings of adults #and the ways in which they learn to exploit eachother in some bizarre performance of normalcy #but this is an angle i don't ever see anybody exploring #and i think personally that there's a lot of merit to it #from a thematic standpoint at least #if you asked kasey what it meant i think he'd just reiterate the anti-capitalist commentary because that was his primary motivator #jimmy and the pulsating mass #jimmy and the pulsating mass spoilers #jatpm #jatpm spoilers

in re: to the tags in this post I like to think of fandom as being like a picnic and canon brings the picnic essentials, like... roast chickens, pork pies, sandwiches, fruit salads, or whatever people consider picnic essentials, and a lot of people are bringing the same things. Some people stopped by the grocery store and bought a premade cake, others turned up with fastfood from KFC, McDonald's or whatever, that's fine and good because these things tend to get eaten a lot, especially in the context of large groups of people.

But for me, I'm something of a picky eater with an acquired taste, and while I'll grab one or two things from the main table, and after I've had a taste, I'm done. I like to put in the effort to fill a niche no one else is filling because I have crohn's disease and KNOW what it's like to turn up to a picnic and not be able to eat or drink anything. It's fucking miserable.

I'm making a zucchini slice from scratch, I've got a cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off, I have several bottles of chilled water and a thermos of tea because not everyone drinks fanta, lemonade or beer.

If people ask nicely, maybe I'll even discretely share the jar of anchovies I have on my person because while I like that, I'm fully aware many if not most people consider it gross. Some people are even very allergic and I do my best to ensure people know what they're grabbing just in case.

Personally fanta and beer give me FIERCE migraines, even though they're wildly popular. I just avoid that putting in my cup, or if I'm brave, I might add a teeny bit of beer into a cup of lemonade and make a shandy I can hopefully handle.

The whole point is that people have more fun and are more relaxed when there's something for everything and a wide enough variety they don't have to stick to An Single Food Or Drink option. If everyone was locked into what's on the main table and prevented from bringing shit I made with my own two hands, I probably wouldn't come to the picnic at all.
