Hello! I would like to request an angst turns fluff imagine! Levi x reader where they have an arguments about something serious and reader doesnt want to be a burden to levi
A/N: Sorry this got so long…
𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒕 ❤️
“Are we really having this conversation again?” Levi groaned one hand gripping his hair in frustration, Y/N bit her lip digging her nails into her palms to keep angry tears at bay.
“I already told you that I’m going to be busy tomorrow night. I’m sorry but I just don’t have time to meet your parents.” Y/N was both angry and hurt, she had been dating Levi for almost a year and in that time she had fallen head over heels in love with him. She admired his dedication and work ethic but sometimes he lost sight of things that were important outside of paperwork.
“It’s not going to take long Levi, they just want to have dinner and meet you and that’s it. You can leave after dinner!” Y/N argues, she didn’t feel like she was asking for much and Levi was making this thing a lot harder than it needed to be. Hell he could use a few hours away from his desk.
“I’m not going to say it again Y/N! I don’t have time to waste right now” His words stung like a slap to the face.
“So that’s how you see me then? A waste of time?” She really cared for him but sometimes he could be a snappy asshole when he was in a mood.
“You know that’s not what I meant, God why are you being like this?” He snaps, he couldn’t take it anymore. She was being too pushy, how many times did he have to tell her he was too busy with work to meet her parents.
“Is it really that awful for you take two hours out of your day to meet my parents? This is important to me Levi!” Y/N doesn’t mean to yell but he was getting under her skin and being unreasonably selfish. Maybe he was purposely putting off meeting them because he didn’t take their relationship seriously. It would make sense, he always had work to get him out of things like meeting her friends and now her parents. The possibility struck her suddenly, just the though of Levi not wanting to be seriously involved with her was enough to settle her mind.
“Actually never mind it’s fine, forget I asked” The angry expression she’d had on her face the entire argument quickly fading into nothing, her face giving away nothing as she silently collects the few things she’d brought to spend the night at his place.
“What the fuck are you doing? You don’t have to leave” Levi huffs, yet not tearing himself away from his spot on the bed, laptop still opened on his legs.
“I think it’s better if I go home” she mumbles, exiting the bedroom to slip her shoes on. Her eyes burn with tears but she refuses to cry in front of him, what was the point. He clearly prioritized work over their relationship, he hadn’t even gotten up to stop her from leaving. Throwing her key on the kitchen table she leaves the apartment, the sound of keys tapping confirming how much Levi valued her.
It was well into the late hours of the night, Levi was still hunched over his computer a cramp forming in his neck. It had been almost two days since Y/N had left and he hadn’t bothered to text her. His head was swimming with information, work had been extra demanding lately and while he liked to pretend that he could handle the heavy work load it was clearly putting a strain on his life. In all honesty he had expected her to message him first but he supposed that he deserved the silent treatment.
The day she had asked him again if he would be able to make it to dinner had been bad timing, he had just gotten off a long phone call from one of their clients who had a knack for being particularly difficult. Her insistent begging had been the final straw causing him to unleash his temper onto her. It hadn’t been the first time either. Since they had started dating he found it easier to take his anger out on her than deal with his own issues. She always forgave him after, brushing it off like nothing happened.
Thinking back to her blank expression made him cringe, she always tried to hide her emotions but he was pretty good at reading her. Her eyes gave everything away. He had seen how hurt she was and had chose to ignore her.
“I’m a fucking dick” he sighed, leaning his head back against his chair. He knew it was late but figured that waking up to an apology was better than waiting until he could see her and apologize properly in person.
Hey babe, I’m really sorry. Call me when you get this
Levi’s couldn’t take it anymore, closing his laptop he trudged to the bathroom for a quick shower. Crawling under the covers he checked his phone just in case Y/N was miraculously still awake. Unsurprisingly there was no text or call waiting for him. Sighing deeply he pulled the covers over his head burying his face into the pillows.
Levi was only slightly disappointed when he woke up with no news from Y/N, he rolled his neck wincing at the knot that had formed in his sleep. Despite having slept for a good six hours he felt cranky and unrested. His day only got worse from there, clients were consistently unhappy with the changes they had specifically demanded for and Levi was beginning to lose his mind. Maybe he needed to take a vacation, spending a week or two on a beach in Bali with Y/N sounded like a good idea.
When his day had finally ended all Levi wanted to do was go over to her place and take a nap with her body snug against his. So he did, only to end up waiting outside for nearly half an hour. He tried texting her, calling her even face timing her but she wasn’t answering her phone. Levi knew for a fact she wasn’t working today so why wasn’t she around.
Where are you? Can we talk?
Y/N?
Please talk to me
Baby…
Levi waited another ten minutes before sitting down on the doorstep or her apartment. Y/N was clearly giving him the silent treatment and he knew he deserved it. She had never ignored him like this before and it made him feel even worse for his actions. Were they breaking up? The empty feeling that followed as he imagined his life without her served as a much needed wake up call. Levi knew he needed to apologize, he had been taking her forgiving nature for granted. He knew she would either have to leave her apartment eventually or be coming back so he made up his mind to wait for her. It was the least he could do after hurting her.
Y/N was stunned when she had come back to her apartment that night, she hadn’t expected to find Levi leaning against her door dozed off. Her heart tugged at the sight knowing that he must’ve been waiting for her for a while. It wasn’t something he had ever done before and she wasn’t sure how to feel.
“Hey Levi, wake up. You must be uncomfortable” she says gently nudging his shoulder. Immediately aware of his surroundings he looks up at Y/N, his entire body flooding with relief. He quickly stands on his feet ignoring the soreness in his spine, he takes her hands in his.
“Y/N I’m sorry, I was stupid and I took you for granted and I will do whatever it takes for you to forgive me” Y/N couldn’t say anything, Levi had never apologized like this before. He looked disheveled and tired, the circles under his eyes darker than usual.
“You don’t have to do anything. I’m sorry, I don’t want to burden you with my problems. I should’ve just let you work.” She moves to pull her hands out of his feeling like she didn’t deserve his attention but he only holds on tighter pulling her closer to him.
“You’re not a burden to me, never. It’s my fault for putting those thoughts into your head and I will spend the rest of my life proving you wrong if you let me.” His grey eyes looked so sincere she felt her resolve slipping away under his gaze.
“Please let me make it up to you” Y/N bites her lip turning her face away from Levi. She really wanted to forgive him but how could she trust that he was actually going to change?
“Let’s talk inside” she mumbles, pulling her hand way to grab her keys and unlock the door. Levi was on edge the entire time he watched her shift around her apartment trying to find any excuse to prolong their conversation.
Y/N was a bundle of nervous energy, she didn’t like confrontation even if it was her own boyfriend. Walking over to the cupboard she placed two mugs on the counter.
“Do you want tea?” Levi couldn’t take it anymore, the past few days had been hell without her and he needed to know where they stood.
“Tell me what’s wrong babe” His arms encircle her frame halting whatever she was doing.
“I don’t know if I can trust you to not keep doing this. I know your job is really important to you but what about us? I don’t want to sit around waiting for you to decide you want to spend time with me, Levi. I’m not here for your convenience.” The words come out harsher than she had intended but her feelings were all over the place.
“I know I can’t take back how I’ve been treating you but please let me make it up to you. I need you in my life Y/N, you’re the best part of my day. I miss you” He whispers against her ear his arms circling around her waist pulling her back flush against his chest.
“Okay, make it up to me then.” She mumbles after a few moments, yelping in surprise when Levi spins her around to face him his eyes locked onto hers.
“I love you” Any attempt at holding back tears failing as they all fall at once. Levi rarely told her he loved her, usually expressing his feelings through actions but the times he did say it were always special. He wipes away her tears with the pad of his thumbs, leaning forward to kiss her his nerves on fire at the feeling of her lips finally on his again.
“Let’s go to bed, I slept like shit without you”

Decorative Leather Techniques

“Leather Decoration an Overview: Decorative Techniques Used
The decorative motifs in medieval leatherwork often seem to echo designs in other media, including stone sculpture and illuminated manuscripts. (Cowgill 40 – 41) The concept of horror vacui is prevalent – the idea that designs be adapted to fill the visible space. (Cowgill 42) This is seen from scabbards to shoes, from belts to boxes. Symmetry and balance are also important design elements. In some cases, the imagery on leather items is very similar to that on woodcuts, with rather flat designs and cross-hatching to delineate background from foreground. Other designs incorporate fairly high relief to create more realism. Color is used to enhance these effects. Abstract designs of floral work and interlace are also very common. The workmanship on medieval leather items ranges from fairly simple and crude to incredibly ornate and skillful.
Based upon images in medieval manuscripts and paintings, many leather items like shoes and accessories were brightly colored. Leather dye soaks into the item to provide all over coloring. A variety of dyes for leather were recorded in The Plictho, a 1548 Italian dye manual by Gioanventura Rosetti. Ways to color leather red, blue, green, yellow, and black were included. (Rosetti 65 - 83; 159 - 180) [...]
Examples of dyes used on vegetable tanned leather are even rarer. There is one simple method to dye vegetable tanned leather black that has been used for a very long time, however. It uses a chemical reaction between the tannins in the leather and iron oxide. This reaction is the basis for oak gall ink, recorded in On Divers Arts by Theophilus in the 12th century (Theophilus 42 - 43). Vegetable tanned leather exposed to rusty water (or a combination of iron and vinegar) will quickly turn black. This is now being used as a spot testto check the tannage of unknown pieces of leather found on archaeological sites. (van-Driel Murray, 2000 316) This reaction also occurs when leather is in contact with iron-rich soil. This can significantly change the color of leather items after burial, making it hard to determine the original color and decoration.
Leather items were also brightly painted, although little paint survives in archaeological contexts. There are several extant European examples of cases painted in a variety of colors, including red, white, and yellow in the German Leather Museum. (Figures 1 – 7) Many of these have a black background, which could either be black paint, or the black iron oxide dye. Traces of cinnabar (vermillion) paint have been found on a girdle from Anglo- Saxon York, (Mould et. al. 3393) as well as on two scabbards from medieval London. (Cowgill 40) In his treatise Il Libro dell'Arte (The Craftsman's Handbook), Cennino Cennini mentions that leather should be coated with gesso before being painted. (108) Oil paints and egg tempera paint will work on leather, but the included examples are probably oil based paint.
The application of gold leaf was used on expensive leather items, particularly book bindings, religious cases, and showpieces like parade shields. This was a very specialized process, since it involved stamping the leather two times with each stamp – once to form the impression and then again to apply the gold. (Waterer, 1968 38; Gall, 1967 28) The stamps had convex decorations, which when pressed on the leather made sunken designs to hold the gold and keep it from getting worn off. They were usually heated, which helped the design stay crisp, since books were often covered in alum tawed leather, which doesnt take stamping very well. (Salaman 1) To apply the gold, the leather was covered with a base coat (usually red paint), followed by a coating of glair (egg white, vinegar, and water) – a process very similar to how gold was applied to illuminations. (Salaman 8; Gall, 1967 28) (Figure 7) [...]
Vegetable tanned leather can be molded into fairly complex shapes, depending on the heat of the water used to dampen it. Cuir bouilli (boiled leather) is a technique used to make very hard leather items like armor and drinking vessels. The water should not be boiling; the best temperature is between 140 and 180°F, based upon personal experience and other re-creationist experiments. Once soaked in the hot water, the leather becomes very elastic and stretchy, and can be formed into curves and shapes. Once it cools, it can still be molded, but not to a great extent. After such heating, the leather is more compact and significantly harder. Leather items can also be dried in an oven on low temperature (approximately 150°F or so) until all the water is evaporated. Such items need a last (mold form) inside to keep the leather from flattening while drying. [...] Items hardened in this way can also be decorated with paints, dyes, and stamping, although stamping must be done after the initial soaking and stretching, but before the final drying for the design to remain clear on the leather. (Figure 12)
Stamping (called engraving or punching in some sources) is probably the most common method of decorating vegetable tanned leather. It depresses areas of the leather, creating designs. The leather is dampened, and then a metal or wooden stamp is pressed into the leather, usually by hitting it with a mallet. Brass or clean (not rusted) iron is used for such tools to prevent dark marks on the leather.
Stamping is easily recognized on items with repeating single motifs, especially on book bindings and scabbards. Many of the stamps were quite simple designs like fleur-de-lis, cinquefoils, and latticework, but more complex designs have also been found. (Figures 13) [...] In contrast to single motif stamps that create a specific image, some designs were created by using a stamp to fill in the background, creating a picture in the negative space. Such designs are contrasted with single motif images because multiple copies of the same subject arent identical. (Cowgill 43; Egan and Pritchard 46) (Figure 3, 4, 6, 14) Backgrounds of round pimpling (Figure 14) were very common.
[...] Designs can also be pressed into the leather using flat and pointed tools that are not hit with a mallet. This technique is called modeling (or engraving in some sources), and can be used to create rounded shapes and figures, and free-form floral designs. These specialized tools can be used much like pencils, with harder pressure making deeper designs. [...]
In contrast to stamping and modeling, embossing pushes the leather up from the underside to make the designs. These appear as low relief raised decoration. Embossed areas often include a leather plug that supports the raised up portions of the design from behind. Most embossed leather items are made from wood and covered with leather, such as box lids or shield covers. This makes it difficult to tell if the design was made from the back (embossing) or from the front (modeling) – in fact, some authors do not distinguish between the two forms. (Cowgill 42) (Figures 1, 4, 5) [...]
Many of these techniques were combined into large scale items, usually boxes and cases covered in leather. (Figures 1 – 7) The German Leather Museum has several cases that appear to combine incising, stamping, and modeling-embossed areas, many of which are brightly painted. Several crown and coronet cases, as well as cases to hold relics and other religious items, are still preserved in museums – often with the original contents. These cases contain a variety of design styles. Many have an all over design of scrollwork, while others display mythological and religious scenes, such as interpretations of Saint George and the Dragon. (Figure 5) Heraldic displays often accompany crown cases, presumably the arms of the royalty.
Comparison to Modern Re-creationist Leatherwork
Modern re-creationists recognize the necessity of leather for items like shoes, belts, and pouches. Items covered in leather, such as boxes, chests, and carrying cases, seem rarer, however. These items appear to have been very common in medieval Europe, but usually arent seen at modern re-creationist events. Many garments would also have been made or trimmed in leather, but are not commonly used by re-creationists.
[...] Most items are not decorated correctly, however. Some re-creationists assume there was no decoration or color at all, based upon utilitarian items found at excavation sites. This is because the leather from these sites comes out of the ground a uniform brown/black color, and most items do not show any original coloration at all. [...]
At the opposite extreme, floral scroll work is common to both modern and medieval leatherwork, but is rarely used for decoration by the re-creationist. The Western Floral and Sheridan type of work is very similar to the scrollwork on many of the cases and boxes, with flowing Acanthus leaves and open circles for specialized decoration. But this type of design is not often pursued by the modern re-creationist. Compare Figure 15 to Figure 18 to see the similarities and differences in the floral work.
In addition to these examples of period designs and how they are used (or not used) by the modern re- creationist, the way space is filled in can be very different between the modern and extant examples. Many modern examples often contain just one design element, with lots of open space. As can be seen on the extant examples, this was not usually the case for medieval leather items. Virtually all of the items from the German Leather Museum appear to have all visible surfaces covered with designs, some of which do not seem to fit with the main design. This includes small vignette scenes on the sides of boxes, as well as corner decorations that complement the central image. All over designs, and those with all over backgrounds, appear to be almost completely absent in modern re-creationist leatherwork. [...]
The use of color has changed significantly as well. The variety of colors on the German museum pieces is amazing. With the greater range of colors in acrylic paint available to the modern re-creationist, the pure heraldic hues would be easy to reproduce. Most modern leather items are only dyed or very simply painted, though. Painting an entire piece is usually not done, and modern leather dye doesn’t create the same effect seen on the painted originals. Modern leatherworkers will use stains and antiquing techniques to highlight the grain structure, letting the leather show through. The re-creationist leatherworker seems to follow this practice, which appears to be a modern aesthetic rather than a medieval one, based upon the highly painted examples.
Summary
[...] And the tools of a modern leatherworker may be of zinc covered steel instead of brass or wood, but many of the stamp designs available now would not be out of place in a medieval workshop.
[...] Modern, rather than medieval, ideas and uses of decorative techniques seem to dominate in re-creationist leatherwork. While these obviously appeal to the modern person, they are not the same as what a medieval European would appreciate in leatherwork. Items decorated in such a way would probably seem very strange and out of place, based upon the extant examples - just as some of those examples seem garish and not what was expected to the modern re-creationist. This difference in appeal is at the heart of the aesthetic difference and makes recreating accurate items difficult.
The reasons for the aesthetic difference between modern and medieval leatherwork can be hard to pin down.

anyway, the east, right. came out of the Collision pretty alright. some minor chaos, bunch of shit got a ll fucky, a whole big city got completely fucked, but overall pretty ok. and then it booms, completely booms, especially once connections between the human plane and elven plane are built. regions that could not previously be explored now can be, and that entire region booms. the “new” elven capital on the eastern coast is positively booming with traffic and trade with their human neighbours. everything is pretty alright.
then the Separation happens, and the planes are torn apart.
there were likely only two countries on that part of the continent - the human one, encompassing some 3/4 of the land, and the elven one in the east, encorpating the length of the eastern coast. this was fine for all involved, for the most part. minor squabbles over the extent of the elven holdings were common, but usually resolved peacefully. everyone was fine.
but with the separation, that changed. for starters, most of the prominent leaders of the human country were in the elven plane for a sort of ‘high council’ at the time, and were thus stranded. those who had stayed behind to ‘hold down the fort’ were largely unequipped or unqualified to hold total power in their absence, and the human kingdom quickly collapsed. at least one military government was established in an attempt to wrangle control out of an angry populace. the elves to the east were particularly distressed due to the loss of access to their homeland (ancestral or otherwise), and while their country did not collapse, it was rocked. their distress turned outwards, and soon they took advantage of the scattered human kingdom to conquer additional land. because, well, the elven country simply wasnt equipped to handle as many people as it now found itself having. it had been a country, yes, and had permanent residents, but they were few. it was esentially an extra-planar extension of an existing elven kingdom, and it was more of a lookout or small base than an actual Thing. but now it had to be as such. and so it rapidly expanded in an effort to occupy its restless citizens, and to gain resourcs and land for them.
a lot was happening to the human kingdom. a new one popped up in the north north-west, which protected it for a time from elven advancement. it slowly brought stability to its surrounds, though it notably did not include the military government which had been established not far south, which claimed to be the direct successor to the previous kingdom. a number of centrally located towns folded into either the military or the elves with little struggle, except when their borders collided. the northern kingdom managed to secure peace with the elves, though remained at war with the junta, who spread futher south and clashed with the elves repeatedly.
to emphasise their legitimacy, the junta re-estbalished the monarchy and based it out of a centrally located city, though far further south than the previous capital. the monarchy was technically in control, but all knew the junta was in power. their first monarch, in fact, was a respected former military commander, to connect both sides together.
more splinters emerged. human towns which had folded into the elven country began to reach out to each other and find solidarity, and many considered exiting and forming their own nation. and they did! it was fairly short lived, being quickly subsumed into the northern kingdom, but it was, for a time, wholly independent of its surrounds.
all land was now practically claimed. control over the north-south border became fierce, with the north boasting superior unity and the south boasting a stronger military (of course!). both claimed to be the legitimate successor to the human kingdom. itsa lot of fun.
what the northern kingdom has an advantage is the peace with the elves. the two join forces to push the southerners further south, before peace is brokered between all three parties. the north and east divide the winnings accordingly, to essentially give the elves the entirety of the eastern ranges and their immediate surrounds, and all parties mostly go on their way.
peace is uneasy. individual towns and groups defect to whichever country they find the most righteous or legitimate or so forth, and their border is chaotic. many humans who find themselves under elven rule spill out of their territory in droves, and its just. a Huuuuuge fucking mess. an absolute mess.
while all this occurs, the west remains steadfast. having only sent minor representatives to the “high council”, due to their isolationism/non-interventionist stuff, and also just not giving a fuck, they were not deeply affected by the Separation from a leadership stance. they end us accepting a large amount of refugees from all sides of the conflict, much to their dismay, but they agree to look after them provided they pull their weight, which many do. in fact, theres growing feelings that the west is the strongest power in the region, and could easily claim the other side of the strait for itself. it does not do so. however, it does claim a great many islands dotted off the coast of itself and the northern and southern kingdoms. said islands were largely forgotten or ignored in the greater conflict, and many willingly + peacefully become western. this becomes an issue later, because noone decided to tell the south that this was the case. the southern govt had largely assumed the islands of the coast were still theres.
a minor war likely breaks out over ownership of the islands, to which the west quickly wins. its not really a contest. in proving the point, it clearly establishes its control of the northern islands as well, which the northern kingdom concedes without fuss.
this basically functions. the issue for me now is to tie the northern nobility back into the southern. likely what occurs is that, in ensuing decades, peace is brought between the two monarchies through strategic marriage. the junta dissolves after a while as well, after the wars stop. its not needed. it simply folds back into being the southern military, though it has a huge presence, regardless of its actual size. even though the elven military is likely far larger, it just isnt as pervasive an institution culturally.
this actually ties in well (and unintentionally, haha!) with Warzen’s backstory, and how his noble ‘father’ was going to force him into the military to ‘earn his place’ in the family. the intrinsic tie between southern nobility and the military works even better for this, since i basically imagined that warzen’s family became rich/noble through military connections and were likely involved in like..... profiteering or production or smuggling/sales or some shit, you feel me? war as business stuff. works well for the south as junta into monarchy. i dig that.
AND!! the north being allied with the elves early on (though they did likely clash a few times to start and have some disagreements over borders) also helps to explain “Noverhamptons” notable elven diaspora. theyre friends! it makes sense for elves to perhaps move to the north for some reason. the same is not largely true of the south.
whiiiiich makes the one elven noble (he married in) even BETTER for warzens backstory too, since him being an elf means hes a little bit outcast for the noble circles, leading him to bond easily with the young Warzen. oh fuck me lads its Perfect shit. ohhhhh baby. thats what i like. when the pieces align just so! <3 hell yea man
so tl;dr three countries total - west, central, east/elf. central collapses during the Separation due to lost leadership and general pandemonium. splits into two major powers - a northern kingdom likely centered around a notable aristocrat, and a southern military junta which claims the entirety of Central. the south later establishes a monarchy under an ex-leader to “increase legitimacy”. the elves expand their borders westward out of a combo Huge Distress and need for land and resources to deal with the stranded elven populace. war breaks out between all three. the elves and north make an agreement and broker peace, and they later unite to put the south in its place. uneasy peace is achieved, though the north/south border and south/east borders remain tense and have issues all the time. much of the north/south tension is resolved through a collection of strategic marriages between the two monarchies, making both sort of the same thing. sort of fixes the issue. the two become more friendly. the south remains distrustful generally of the elven east.
the west is just chilling out. takes a bunch of Central refugees and a few Easterners, and it also claims a fuck ton of islands off the coast of both north and south. partly because they can and also because theyve been ignored during the whole crisis and kinda need help. west just swoops in. easy victory. minor war with the south about it where the south just gets fucked.
the southern loss to the west is probably the final nail in the junta as the total control holders in the south, and thus it transitions into the monarchy being in the big. probably.
honestly im mostly cool if the south has an elected govt instead of a kingdom, for some variety, since the nobles can still definitely exist under it. does sort of undermine the idea of the political union via marriage, which i think works well. since the common man p much doesnt give as much of a shit, and its the upper class that cares. could easily marry lesser royalty from the north into southern noble/political families. these all work. happy to look at that in more depth later, you feel me?
but yea! fucking nice!
