“Okay, as promised, let me introduce you all to the team.
This is Pecha, my Togekiss. She was my first ever partner and she’s been with me through everything. She’s a sweet little thing and an affectionate cuddlebug--even now she’s still trying to sleep under my coat at night heheheh!”
“Aspear is sort of her adoptive brother of sorts.” He gestures to the larger Togekiss floating nearby. “I found him as a Togetic when I was studying the massive mass outbreaks that started happening. He’s a bit more headstrong and reckless than Pecha but he’s got a good heart. He also helps gang up on me with Pecha and smothers me in his feathers. Oh! I should mention he’s an Alpha as well, I forget most people here can’t recognize Alphas on sight.”
“Atlas is my Garchomp. In truth, I wasn’t actually expecting him to be my partner; when you’re a kid, a Gible running at you full speed is a reason to panic. Pecha stunned him to help me out and I panicked and threw as pokeball since my legs were jelly. I don’t think he meant any harm by it though. Actually, even though he tries to look tough, he secretly gets really lonely when I’m not around.”
“Then there’s-AH” Volo is suddenly tackled by a large Hisuian Arcanine. “Get off!! Not right now! Off, off!” The Arcanine obeyed and Volo took a second to dust himself off. “That is Roseli. She’s an Alpha Arcanine I met back at the Coastlands. She saw me getting chased by an Alpha Glameow and jumped in to save me. After that she kind of just. Picked me up and treated me like I was a cub. She joined my team very willingly, and it was kind of a big achievement for a while to have an alpha for a partner at such a young age.”
“Polaris is my Spiritomb. I found the details for how to summon a Spiritomb while looking through some ruins. He’s a bit of a loner admittedly, but he really understands me. I like to watch the stars with him sometimes. I’ve heart that Spiritomb are usually considered pranksters, but the only pranks Polaris really pulls are hiding food and occasionally disappearing to scare people.”
“Then there’s Gabriel. I met him as a Riolu. I used to bring my pokemon to the Riolu and Lucario herds to help them train and Gabriel was a Riolu I saw quite often. After a few spars we had with each other, he ended up becoming a life long companion. He’s a VERY good boy, isn’t that right?” A Lucario in the background barked.
“My Roserade’s name is Chamomile. We met in the Mirelands back when I had most of my team together. I thought I had enough pokemon but then this one little Budew wouldn’t leave me alone. He followed me across the Mirelands because he wanted to join me and thought we’d be a good fit. And we were! After all these years he’s still been a lovely companion who wants to help out.”
“I met Snip Tool while I was studying space-time distortions.” A nearby Hisuian Decidueye rumbled. “He nearly pecked my eye out hehehe. But! He’s a good guy. He likes to be respected for his abilities and he likes a good challenge.  A lot of times if we had to camp out somewhere dangerous, I’d find him out there keeping watch even before I had said anything to anyone.”
“Addy on the other hand,” Volo pointed to a Leafeon who was looking up at him smugly, “is a little shit. I love him to death but he is a cheeky motherfucker who will hear you telling him not to do something and then proceed to do it in front of you. He will learn all your secrets and look at you so judgementally for anything and everything!! But! Despite all that, I do love hi ma whole lot. He’s one tanky boy and he can take a lot of hits if he needs to. (As long as they’re physical hits anyway.)
“Gooey is my Gastrodon and he is my very special boy!!! Back when I was traveling around the Fieldlands with him as a Shellos, literally nothing could hit this guy! He stalled out an Alpha Blissey while I was healing everyone from earlier fights! AN ALPHA BLISSEY! She couldn’t get a hit on him! He’s the craftiest powerhouse and my gooey little baby!!”
A Luxray came into view and nuzzled his head into Volo’s head. “Admittedly... Button and I didn’t get along very well in the beginning. I caught him completely on accident while looking for a different pokemon, but I didn’t want to stop in my search so I said I was going to release him later when I found it. He was also really aggressive and headstrong as a Shinx which kept attracting fights or scaring off other pokemon. I really thought Button was just going to be a temporary member but... well, my search kept going on longer and longer before I gave up and by that point... Button had mellowed out as he evolved and I’d realized how much he’d helped with battles so I finally swallowed my pride and kept him. I’ve been doing my best to make up for misjudging him ever since.”
“As for my non-battling partners, I have two! I’ve already talked a little about Embers, my Rapidash, but here she is! Even though her eyes are bad, her hearing and her sense of smell are still pretty good! And she’s really gentle; I’ll feed her berries out of my hand most days.”
“Lastly we have the beloved, most fearsome creature to ever come out of the Fieldlands!” Volo held out his hand and presented a small Wurmple, who was wiggling her legs and calling fiercely. “Wuwu. I picked her up a long time ago, and even though she’s quite strong, she’s been pretty resistant to evolution. I think she likes staying as a Wurmple buuuuut. Well. Wurmple can’t learn many moves. So I mostly keep her out of the way some place safe.” He gives her a little boop on the head. “You’ll get your chance to shine some day.”
“Aaand that’s everyone! Aside from Embers and Wuwu, everyone else stays with me pretty much all the time and I’ve raised Most of them myself so. If you any questions about them or their species, these would probably be the ones I’d know the most about!”

Burnout
You remembered me.
Yeah, I completely forgot you existed. Sorry about that.
No worries.
No guilt trip?
I'm your inner sage, your satan, your voice of reason. What good would a guilt trip be at this point?
Pretty damned useless.
You swear too much.
I know.
So you're burned out.
I found out that my paid time off doesn't flow over to the next year, and I've never really worried about accounting for my time off. But I had to do the accounting and discovered 130 hours sitting there waiting to be used.
You need a break.
I needed a break six months ago. I'm a set-it-and-forget-it kind of guy. I don't take days off unless I have to.
That's not good enough. You need to schedule more time off in the future and stick to it.
Yeah, I know. I know. I've already added one day to my calendar next year. I'm waiting on my wife's job prospects before scheduling any other vacations, but I'm going to schedule them. I promise.
You also promised to call the clinic to get hearing aids today.
Damn. I forgot to do that.
Yup. See? I don't need to guilt trip you at all. So you're burned out.
Big time, but I'm afraid of it.
There is nothing to fear about it.
I'm afraid of the concept of it. It's hitting me. I really am burned out. I feel it. I know it. My brain in mush. At work I stare at my computer and can think of thirty things that have to get done and I have no idea how to do any of them.
Just start.
That's a recipe for burnout. I can't move forward. I'm scared.
Of what?
Burn out.
That doesn't make any sense, so explain it to me like I'm five.
Okay, you know how I don't even like to say the word "vulnerable"? It's a nasty word. It even feels wrong to say it, let alone be vulnerable. Brené Brown talks about it a lot and I just don't get it. I even heard the word used to describe John McClane in Die Hard and it seemed so wrong. Burn out is the same way. I'm supposed to be stronger than that. More resiliient.
Ah! So you don't know what resilient means.
It has two meanings. One is to be hard like stone and not moved by the world.
Be like the promontory against which the waves continually break, but it stands firm and tames the fury of the water around it.
And that's you, is it?
Sometimes.
But that's not how it works. The rocks eventually fall to erosion from the waves. Rocks are just slower about it than human beings. We break faster, but we also have something rocks don't have.
Oh?
We grow back stronger. Isn't that the whole point of progressive strength training? The body repairs itself from the careful damage done to it under the bar and so the next time you have to do just a tad bit more careful damage.
That's pretty basic.
You know what's missing in that? Rest. You can heal, unlike the rock. You can grow stronger, but only when you rest. A night's sleep isn't enough. How many times this week did you wake up in the middle of the night thinking about work?
A couple of times.
And did you wake up thinking about music or writing or art or books?
No.
So you are failing even to retreat into your own mind often enough. You're not taking the time to remember what is good and what is bad, what is virtuous and what is vicious. If you were to stop right now and determine what was good or bad in your world, how would you enumerate them?
I'd stare blankly, unthinking.
Really? You've never unthought in your life.
There are people, supposedly, who do not have an inner monologue. I have a hard time believing this is true.
You're not one of those people. I've been narrating your life since you were a kid and invented YouTube before the World Wide Web was a thing. You have thoughts all the time, as well as tinnitus. So what's really going on when you can't even think of a word?
Sometimes pure unadulterated fear. The big one is aphasia. I've seen it do things to people and I don't want to put my wife through that. But today trying to explain something to her I couldn't. I couldn't find the word to start with.
Which is all the more proof that whatever well you draw from is damn near empty and you need to pause to refill it. But you're afraid to do that.
I am.
You think it's a point of strength to plow forward and work twelve-hour days until this work crisis is over.
I do.
You're an idiot.
You're not being helpful right now.
Yes, I am, but you're being an idiot and not listening to me. Come back in the morning after you've slept.

Affo here...I decided to try an introduction like my owner did...
Well we did your suggestion and we got...mixed results.
I sent dark enchantress in to investigate and I think there was a misunderstanding that...actually turned out to be true. I said I saw an injured licorice SERVANT...not licorice...but you were right! Licorice was hurt, as dark enchantress told me.
Apparently they looked like they got into a fight with a mouse and won but they were clawed and bitten a little...they were shaken up and it seems that this licorice has had a bad experience with a dark enchantress.
dark enchantress told me the moment licorice laid eyes on her....they screamed in terror and started trying to attack her with licorice servants! She managed to calm them down enough to stop their attack but is very defensive...and wouldn't calm down until she left. Poor guy.
And incase you're wondering how our owner didn't hear the scream....well...thank god red velvet gave our baker the idea to listen to music. We didn't want them getting involved....especially now since the licorice seems scared. Knowing her, she'd probably try to offer treats to befriend it but have zero idea how to deal with their....fear of dark enchantress. What do we do? Should dark enchantress try to bring a peace offering? If so what should she take? Our owner leaves out a large bowl of jellies for us to eat whenever we want and always makes sure it's full so we can eat whenever we want to eat. We also know where she keeps potato chips, if a salty treat would be a good offering. We could also pretend to be hungry for a certain item and then have her fix it so we can offer it to the licorice. Any ideas?
Ah hello affo and I see (I really oughta get new glasses)
well for starters I find it a bit odd that a licorice actually fears a dark enchantress then again, with what string (Twizzly gummy buddy that works in the center) tells me that there are sometimes dark enchantress with a far more hostile intentions
Its clear that the Licorice is scared right now, now that he knows that there is a dark enchantress in the home, I suggest you or the red velvet try and calm him down a bit. offer him some of the jellies and talk to him a bit, the jellies should heal some of his injuries but I suggest you try and heal him a bit with some first aid.
As for a long term solution for his fear, I have a suggestion
Like with our own fears, the more we are around our fears in a controlled environment and have it repeat, we will eventually get over the fear, like people with arachnophobia. its called Exposure therapy, this will be a long process of convincing the licorice that not all dark enchantress are as bad as the one he has encountered and if you truly wish to not have your owner in this. try to hide him somewhere where she doesn’t go often
anyway, Exposure therapy, like stated and its name have the occupant come face to face with their fears, of course you start slow so in your case, have dark enchantress be visible to the licorice, but have her not interract with him and instead do things she usually do, as time goes on, and if he starts to slowly get over his fear, have dark enchantress slowly acknowledge him until eventually having her talk to him slowly.
Now I will say that exposure therapy takes a while weeks and even months, it all depends on how much they fear things, But it is the most effective way of helping others get over your fears, So you may have to eventually tell your owner about him depending on the situation.
I wish you luck and well Affo, do not forget that you are free to call us if you need anymore help.

SEVENTEEN- REACTION: THEIR S/O GETS INJURED (PART 2)
(PART ONE)
part two of @honeyylin ‘s request!!! sorry it took so long honey ㅠㅠ
also check out honey’s acc!!! they’ve recently started writing fic so give em a visit!! <3
today’s photo theme is green green green green green green green green green green
(I didn’t proofread this I will when it’s not 5 am lol)
tw: food, injury
Tumblr media
SEOKMIN
Tumblr media
• *insert terrified screaming*
• yikes. this man. this poor fellow.
• he’s so worried about you!!!
• like. you’re fine. it’s not a big deal you just won’t be able to walk without crutches for a while
• but this man PHYSICALLY refuses to go to work
• Jihoon even comes to your apartment to beat Seokmin’s ass gently request he come to work cuz they kind of need him
• but no, because “y/n needs me more!!”
• please you’re fine. you can walk and you work from home already. you’ll live. You’ve been injured before.
• this goes in one ear and out the other!
• he will stay home and baby you and peek in your room every ten minutes like “hey are you ok???? do you need anything???”
• it’s kind of endearing
• the calls you keep getting from Seungcheol and Jihoon are not though because SOMEONE keeps forgetting to “call in sick” to work!!
• it’s just part of the whole shebang. he calms down eventually and gets over the anxiety of you getting even more hurt or struggling and goes back to the others
• but you bet your ass when he comes home at night you’re not going anywhere and he’s gonna baby you until he deems you all better
• also he definitely just likes babying you because he doesn’t declare you better until a week after the doctor does, “just to be safe!!!”
• he loves you very much and if anything we’re to happen to the love of his life he’d like. Evaporate on the spot
• 10/10 man right here
MINGYU
Tumblr media
• ok so we know how clumsy this man is
• he technically knows how to take care of injuries
• also the injury was sort of maybe his fault ):
• he tripped over a damn rock and made you stumble too, falling and scraping up your leg
• and this poor man is apologizing faster than he raps
• you’re not badly hurt, and when the pain wears off you’re laughing
• and Mingyu’s all pouty lol
• and though you assure him that you’re ok and everyone trips up sometimes, he just wants to make it up to you
• he is also one of the other mfs who would make soup. him and Josh r gonna open a soup kitchen s2g
• but he’s also super cheesy and you wake up from a nap and see that Mingyu’s gone out and gotten flowers and made some nice food and made a little mini date in ur apartment
• and he just feels so bad !!!! please help this man
• once you joke that maybe you should get injured more often so you guys have more dates like this he finally really calms down
• but like I said, he’d know how to treat any injury
• maybe not well, and I’m sure this man’s instinctive response is “I will put a bandaid on it and move on with my life” but how focused he is when he is just wiping off dirt from your arm or leg or whatever and making you sit still while he gauzes it up is just really sweet he cares so much
MINGHAO
Tumblr media
• this man does not know anything.
• I mean don’t get me wrong he’s incredibly smart and emotionally intelligent but also. there’s nothing in this man’s brain except for dastardly ideas
• and you nearly breaking your arm is not exactly a dastardly idea
• so he kinda just shuts down
• he wants to help !!! So bad !!!! but he can’t do anything !!!
• like he’s genuinely such a kind dude and always willing to help even if he teases about it and just always there
• and this is the one thing he can’t help with!!!
• so frustrated ):
• so he spends his time with you by lurking with a pout, ready for any request you had
• he definitely looks like a lost puppy ㅠㅠ
• maybe you act a little more helpless than usual so he can feel better about himself. just maybe
• seeing him brighten when you ask him to get the pasta from the top shelf or help with the laundry is completely worth getting hurt for!!
• eventually he cheers up and goes back to his normal and teasing ways
• and once you heal up he’s so glad he can hug you super tight again (:<
SEUNGKWAN
Tumblr media
• Ah, Seungkwan.
• be prepared for lots of passive-aggressive scolding
• I mean when it first happens you can see the panic in this poor man’s eyes
• ok well technically you texted him about it but his reply was violently misspelled and he showed up at your house within 15 minutes
• tbh you should be scolding him because he definitely was speeding to get home that fast
• but he was scolding you!!!
• like wtf you’re already feeling shitty and then Seungkwan comes over and is acting like your mom
• but this man is emotionally mature!!!
• he notices how frustrated and snippy your replies get and calms down, hugging you tightly where you sit on the bathroom counter as he cleans you up
• complains about getting blood on his shirt tho the bastard
• but he definitely hangs out with you for the rest of the day and you catch up and eat ice cream while you lie around on the floor and it’s just. aju nice. (lol)
• he does his best to keep your mind off of any pain or struggling, and we all know this man is a master of distraction so it goes very well
• he’s a very home-y person and you always feel safe with him (:
VERNON
Tumblr media
• his literal response is “well that’s not good”
• you fuckin call him like “hey sol I’m in urgent care kinda like. broke my arm” and he’s just like “Yeah that’s a problem”
• thank you Hansol “Sherlock” Chwe
• he is just. out of his element please this man will just stare at your cast or whatever with wide eyes like “yo you broke your arm” yes Vernon
• he’s kinda just fascinated ngl
• he lets you tell your story with wide eyes, beaming proudly when you said you didn’t cry
• he’s like “yeah that’s my partner (:< so cool and badass”
• he’s just very silly about it and doesn’t treat you any differently
• which is nice because you kinda hate people bringing attention to it cuz it’s annoying as shit already ):<
• and he’s already so helpful and willing to do chores or whatever so you don’t have to worry about carrying things or washing dishes or whatever cuz Vernon’s got it!!!
• plus it’s adorable how literally every night he’s just like “it’s so cool how you have a cast” like it’s the dumbest thing ever but he finds it so entertaining. like not even the fact you got hurt just like “holy shit like. it’s cement they basically cement your arm in place you have cement on your arm y/n you could knock someone out with that”
• he’s a cutie lol
CHAN
Tumblr media
• ok contrary to popular belief I think he would handle it very well!!
• don’t get me wrong this man is PANICKING under the surface but like. he’s so calm about it on the outside??? hello????
• you call him during practice like “hey so I kinda got hurt I’m ok tho, at the doctor rn” and he’s just like “yes ok are you ok?!”
• little dude lol
• and even though you are, in fact, completely fine, he’s gotta worry smh it’s his job!!
• he comes home and listens to the story as he helps you change the bandages with the most gentle hands ))))):
• and being near you definitely helps calm him down
• he’s back to teasing and being goofy in no time
• this man also definitely knows some medical shit idk what makes me think that but he knows how to like. deal with an injury.
• he definitely is very medically aware idk man I feel like he listens to doctor speak cuz it’s cool and is like “oh yeah go ice that you don’t want it cramping up” whenever one of the other guys complains about something minor lol
• he’s very caring ): I love he sm (:
• he can be a little rat but he knows when to stop and be an ally and what an excellent ally he is!!!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
I’m so sorry I’ve never done an after note like this before but seeing all the green and plants makes me think of this damn tweet and I can’t stop laughinh
Tumblr media

Yan Reader x Childe
Tumblr media
Warning: Contains material that may be harmful or traumatizing to some readers ⚠️❗❗
Synopsis: Basically You ravaging on some poor guys who happened to hurt Childe.
♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥
“Childe!”
You called in concern unto the mans name as You saw How bloody mess was he again.
"I.. I’m fine"
He weakly said as He leaned at the wall and eventually Sat down. You had many questions to ask, Yet you know its not the time for it, You quickly run to get The first aid kit and ran back to him who was Still on the entrance of your home.
You rushed to open the box and started treating his wounds. You took a deep sigh before talking.
"What happened?"
You Looked at him, A Dangerous smile Curved up your lips, It did sent shivers to the mans body, but he also loved this side of you, Ah~ how he wished you could be more rough with him-
You asked, the tenderness and care present as you tried to be careful with his new wounds, careful enough not to hurt him.
"Nothing much-"
"Darling~ I'm asking you a Question~"
Despite Your Wide smile, The voice within it was scary, It was intimidating, as if a black aura would surely appear behind you, ready to devour the man alive if He dared to lie once again. The ginger man just sigh deeply as he knew You were not going to give up until he spoke the truth.
"I was just killing some Ruin guards on the way, When I got ambushed by some Fatui, They were definitely the traitors That I heard From la signora. At the same time, I was on the mission To also get rid of them, but They weren't that easy to catch since they had visions with them too. When I got them cornered up, Ruin guards suddenly Popped up and Went after me, it was chaotic that they even took that chance to run away... Tsk, I'll make sure to really kill them later. "
He said as His eyes darken at the thought of Killing them. He surely won't just give them death Easily, He's surely going to toy with them until They themselves beg for death like a Damn Worm on the ground, Begging to be stepped at and be crushed to death, Well you would surely do the same.
although, You on the other hand, was furious and enraged at hearing at the news.
'huh? Who dares to touch what's mine?'
You thought as You gritted your teeth, Childe didn't know this side of you, and Surely, You Only have this side For childe. If the brunette man knew this side of you, Oh boy, He would surely love to see the scene wherein you spout sweet, crazy nothings such as claiming him as yours and that no one would touch him and only you, Although hidden in the dark, He Know nothing About you being such a psychotic woman that would crush and smash every being that dared to come in between you both. He only knew you as the Kind and adorable you, one that would be afraid to point a knife to someone nor even dare kill an animal without hesitating. It wasn't his fault for not knowing the other side of you, after all It was your choice to hide it, as a ugly part of you was afraid to show him such Dirty side of you, You were simply just too good with hiding things, Too good that felt like you were trained professionally.
"So.. You're heading out again..? With these injuries..?"
You asked innocently as you poked the wound on his chest softly.
"Haha, I know I'm pushing myself, But there's nothing to worry about, cause Once I finish my business with those guys, I will surely take a Rest!"
He tried to reassure you, and you just nodded, playing along with him.
"Sure, But at least eat before You head out, And I'm not done bandaging your arms since We runned out of bandages, I'll just head out and buy more."
You said calmly as you placed a kiss on his cheeks and he did the same.
"Be fast~"
He said with a cheeky smile making your lips curve upward unconsciously. After that, you head out, The smile on your face faded as you looked up to see the dark sky, wherein the moonlight blessed the land with its light together with the stars, You went to the pharmacy and bought bandages as you told him you would, you also added some other things, But you didn't head straight to home, You Headed straight to a building, A tall and Guarded one at that.
Masked mans Walked up to you.
"Miss Y/n, Do you need something?"
They asked as they bowed to showed respect.
"I Need to talk with la signora, Is she busy~?"
You asked and gave a soft and intimidating smile, as if taking a "No" would surely be the end of them, Making it hard for the Fatui infront of you to talk.
"Hm~? Y/n, Do you need something?"
A woman's voice asked as you looked at the right side to see La signora walking towards you while her platinum blonde hair sways and smile.
"Ah~  signora~ I apologize for the sudden visit" You politely said as You smiled at the tall and fair lady Infront of you.
"It's fine, Lets take this to my office"
She said as she started walking ahead, Letting you follow behind.
The trip on your way to her office was quiet and tense.
She opened the door and the both of you went inside.
"Go ahead and take a seat"
She ordered as she went to her own sit. You Obediently followed.
"Now, State your business"
She sternly said, making you gulp hardly.
" The mission Childe took, Mind If I take over it?"
You headed straight to the point making signora Look at You for awhile before A small chuckle came out.
"Eh? Was The mission too much for the Ginger boy?"
She asked as she leaned her chin on the palm of her hand.
"Of course not, He could Slice their throat in one go If some pest didn't dare to intervene."
You said as you tried defending Your lover, You can't possibly let his fellow harbinger look down on him. only you are allowed to do that to him-
"Yes, of course he can, I heard Ruin guards Suddenly entered the scene and that's where It went All Astray from the plan the Boy had."
She said as she seemed to know the whole situation. She paused as she think about your Question again and smiled as she made the decision.
" Its Fine If you take over, although, I wonder if That childe would Even Allow you to take over~? "
She asked as her light gray eyes sparkled with amusement. She was definitely enjoying this.
"Of course, he surely won't...But in the first place , I wonder if he would even Know about it"
You smiled making the woman Chuckle.
"Ain't you such a Bad girl? letting your boyfriend be in the dark, making a fool out of him?"
She suddenly said making you  look at her, displeased at what she said. as if she didn't do the same-
"I'm simply protecting my Beloved childe from the impurities this world has to give."
You said and gave a smile in the end, she just laughed softly.
"Should I send some backups?"
She Asked as she looked at her nails, You stood up.
"No thank You... But a help From you would be nice"
You said and smiled innocently. Making the Lady Look at you, as if she knew What you were asking her for help.
"Do I need to bring their Heads for proof?"
You asked and tilted your head onto the side.
"Their mask and vision is fine"
She answered and sigh deeply before she continued.
"Sure, I’ll help to cover up your involvement in this, You can leave now"
She stated making you smile widely.
"I appreciate it... then This humble one shall excuse herself."
You said as you bowed politely, then you went out as you heard a soft chuckle from the Lady. You thanked the archons as she was willing to cooperate, Your relation with La signora wasn't that bad, It was somehow sort of like a big sister and sister relationship. Although the difference was the Danger lurking behind your backs.
You finally Headed straight home to see your Lovely Childe.
A smile Reached Your lips as you simply thought about childe , You twist the doorknob open and went in, Closing it afterwards.
"That took you long~"
You saw childe pouting on the couch. You placed the things you bought on the table.
"Sorry~ I also looked into some Ointments that would surely heal your wounds faster"
You said as you kissed his cheeks and sat beside him. He slip his arm to your shoulder making you look at childe who was already staring at you, sorrow and mournful feeling evidently filling his eyes.
"Am I really allowed to be with you..?"
He suddenly asked as His beautiful ocean eyes stayed lifeless, Lips curved down. Your  heart quickly shattered as you looked at how the air of melancholy surrounded the Man in front of you. You didn't like how his lips would turn downward and the light on his eyes would just disappear like a  trace of smoke. This state of him makes him vulnerable, yet you knew, He too only has this side for you, knowing that, A whole sense of relief filled you and your eyes soften.
"I love you, Childe, only you and always you.."
You said genuinely and lovingly, it was short yet his lips finally curved upward making him smile in satisfactory as if It was the right words he wanted to hear.
"I love you too"
He said as he kissed you passionately and deeply, You knew where this is heading, Yet you guys can't possibly do it when he's injured so You pushed him lightly. Once you pulled away he seemed kind of disappointed, You chuckled lightly as how adorable he is.
"I Hope you're not forgetting something."
You said and pointed at the bandages and poke his chest again making him pout like a cute little puppy, You love him so much, Too much that You can't resist the feelings of Killing someone whenever They try to harm or converse with Your Beloved childe.
Once you finished bandaging his arms, You mentioned to brew him some Chamomile tea which he agreed to drink before leaving.
"Chamomile Will help you calm down, Since I know You might push yourself again and Make more wounds"
You nag softly and gave him his drink.
"Yes, Yes~ I'll be careful~"
He playfully said making you nod as if You didn't knew He would literally Injure his self more but you know, That won't happen tonight. You were literally at your limit. Almost every week, he would come home to you with a new wound, and Sometimes You saw How some Fatui talk behind His back, It irritated you. You were itching to Kill them all this time. It was as if those feelings were a a Festering Poison twisting everything Your humane features were.
You patted his head as he drink the tea. Then you drank yours as well.
"wah~ This taste Good~"
He said as leaned back at the couch making himself more comfortable. You smiled as the medicine is working, you actually put some soporific drugs in his tea. You noticed how His eyes seemed to fight his eyelids back from closing.
"Childe? Are you sleepy?"
You asked as you feign ignorance, Your tone never changing, He nodded in response.
"then, take a nap, I'll wake you up after an hour then"
You innocently said as you smiled and caressed his face, You can hear him humming in response as He fell on the pillow. You took a blanket and placed it on him, carefully tucking him in.
You knew the medicine won't work That much for childe, so you decided to work fast, You kissed his forehead and Putted on your coat, Heading outside to Find those Bastards.
"Time to hunt some animals"
Signora Gave you The latest information They have on The Traitors and you quickly went To The place. It's been awhile since you've been active so You felt Excited.
═════════•°•⚠•°•═════════
You smiled and Looked around the area.
'Where are they..-"
You grinned ear to ear as You saw a small camp With some fatui who was gravely injured probably due to Childe.
You walked towards it and they began to be alerted.
" State Your name! "
They shouted as You saw their visions glow while they quickly went to a awkward fighting stance.
" I was right.. These sh*ts really doesn't deserve his time.."
You mumbled as Your vision glow, without even them processing what happened, Their Toes Was already frozen, and You took that chance to take their Vision. Protest and resistance were heard from the two.
‘Hydro.. pyro..’
"heh...So You're the Dogs who Tried to kill MY Childe right..?"
You asked as you tilted your head on the side, making the both man Tremble in fear, They didn't bother to speak a word nor even Move.
That ticked you off. The forest around you started to froze, The green leaves turning Icy Blue, Their brown trunks are now Frozen, the ground getting covered in ice as if you turned a part of the forest into a part of dragonspine.
"Hey, Who do you think you guys are? You're both just some useless sh*t who was given a vision. That's all. Nothing special. Yet I, myself don't understand your idiotic actions that led you to Infiltrate the fatui and even dare to Touch What's mine."
You said while Playing with their visions.
"who would've thought You guys were just some spineless bastard who just got lucky By scratching My beloved childe"
You went to them and took their Mask Off.
Tsk.
"Now, I know what's the use of this mask for"
You disgustingly looked at them and started to back away and sat on a Chair.
"Y-You.. Y-You Monster!"
One of them shouted as He tried to Devour you with his Hydro, but within a snap of fingers it all got frozen, making the man Look at you with horrified eyes.
"eh.. If You want to live, Then try harder with that pea brain of yours. At this rate, A damn hilichurl might be stronger than you despite the both of you having visions. Tsk.. in the first place why the F*ck does someone like you deserve a vision?"
You said while you brush the Imaginary dirt on your coat. You looked at them sternly, as they just Tremble like a damn mouse who got trapped.
" Ah~ This is boring"
You yawned as you looked at the Beautiful moon.
"I'll be kind enough to Teach you guys a lesson before getting rid of you both."
You stretched and summoned 5 Cryo swords, flying around in a high speed as they purposely Miss and Scratch the two fatui.
"aagh!"
"N-No!- Ah!"
Groans and hiss of pain Are heard and You just watched them cry and beg for you to stop.
"What do you mean 'stop?' you Disreputable creatures dares touch what's mine with your dirty hands. you even dared scratch it, You must have wanted to die badly right? Its alright, I'm here, I'll give you all the pain and death you want~!”
You laughed as their groanings continued, Blood Staining the ground and even splashes as they get Scratched deeply. The cryo sword were like dancing waltz, it was beautiful, Every Turn and moves would have red Staining The beautiful color of Ice.
Looking at the scene, Anyone would describe you as a psychotic woman who enjoys Gore and violence. Well they might not be wrong about that since you are actually enjoying the gore scene in front of you, Those thugs that dared to scratch Your one and only childe, Are now screaming in pain, and begging you to stop.
'Ah~ how pleasurable to the ears.'
'Maybe if they didn't bother touching what's mine, They wouldn't have ended up like a damn dirty Pig.'
Minutes passed and it suddenly started to dull you out.
"Speak"
You demanded them as the cryo swords stopped dancing, as if the music on the background Finally ended.
"P-Pleas...e.... K-Kill.. Me! Kill me!"
One of them pleaded as Blood Continued dripping down on his body. You laughed.
"pfft...Don't you know that You look so Pathetic Right now?! Are you guys really the said traitors that even a harbinger had a hard time catching? HAHA! I bet if childe saw this, he would be laughing till He's on his knees."
You said as you hold your stomach trying to gain your Posture back.
"Fine~ since I'm now in a good mood , I'll give you the death you want~"
You simply said as the other person smiled in relief.
You snap your fingers and suddenly, Cryo swords began forming ontop of them, 10....15....26....30.. 37...40...45 and it continued.
You could see how their eyes widened in horror once again.
“W-Why..?! W-Why are you D-Doing this?! We’ve d-done nothing wrong..! “
One of them suddenly asked a question as he screamed in despair making you smile widely.
"hmm..? What do you mean? This is entirely all for love~”
You said and chuckled slightly as You saw how The life in their eyes seemed to fade and perish in an instant.
You snap your fingers once again and one by one, the swords began falling. It was as if Raining swords. What a sight to behold indeed.
You saw how the 2 figure in front of you get stabbed every second, Blood beautifully staining the frozen ground again but harshly this time, and their screaming joining in, making You smile in satisfactory.
You stood up and decided to go back. You called the fatui who was definitely spectating from the orders of La signora down.
"At your service!"
He bowed on one knee.
"The mission is finished"
You said as You handed the Masks and visions to the man.
"I'll relay the Message"
He said and disappeared. You started sprinting back to your house. Throwing the coat away somewhere.
Once you opened the door slowly, You got greeted by childe who is barely standing up on the entrance of your house. He looked confused and hurt, and it sort of pained you.
"Y-Y/n...? Why..?"
He asked as there was confusion evident in his voice. Is he suspecting you? No way. Before he say another word, You cupped his face, as you smiled softly
"A fellow subordinate of yours came to report, Since I felt bad waking you up, I decided to go instead-"
You were cutted off when he took your shoulders, gripping it tightly, making the both of you fell down, despite the medicine working, he still had this enormous strength within him.
"Did Those Sh*ts touch you?"
He asked in a stern voice, A voice that would literally murder anyone. It surely send shivers down your spine, and you clearly liked it.
You smiled to reassure him.
"No, Actually he reported that, Those guys you were after, was found dead, It seems their injuries was so deep that They probably died of blood loss"
You patted his head and he sigh out of relief, leaning towards you as he felt his legs giving up.
"That's good to hear.."
He said as he digged his head unto your neck. you nodded and caressed his head. The warmth Of his body seemed to calm you down too.
" Shall we head to the bedroom? you seem tired."
You concernedly asked as you help him stand up, walking towards the bedroom you both share. once you placed the man on the bed, you joined him as well.
"Rest well, Childe~"
You Whispered and kissed his forehead.
"I love.. you too.. Y/n"
You heard him mumbled  sleepily as his eyes finally closed, drifting to dreamland. You stared at childe, The only man that would make you go Crazy If someone dared to steal him from you. He was precious to you, enough that You would surely damn the entire world for him just to make him happy. you would surely despise the Gods and resent destiny If that is what makes him happy. If ever he wanted to burn Liyue, crush mondstadt to pieces and Turn Inazuma to nothing but specks of ashes, You would love to stand beside him and see the artwork The both of you made while Satisfactory pasted on both of your faces.
 "You're only mine childe... After all... No one else will ever love you as much as I do. "
You mumbled and gave another peck on his lips and closed your eyes to drift to sleep.

石田お寿司 12/9/21 stream translation Part 7
This is not the full translation of the stream. I only translated the parts I could understand & interpret or parts I found interesting/important. I’m still a beginner in Japanese, so the translations may not be accurate. If you want to repost, please repost at your own risk.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(t/n: ** means translation may not be accurate.)
I: Any other suggestion for the project?
C: I want you to create Choujin X first chapter with assistants.
I: I wanna see what’ll happen if I hire 100 people. I wanna try draw them with 100 assistants. It’ll probably take an excessive amount of time.
C: Having the viewers as your assistants.
I: That’s a bit interesting. A manga just for that. If it’s the side story’s one shot, then it’s okay. It’d look like a prank if I let you guys draw the real thing.
C: How about playing with Rod?
I: That’s a good idea.
*He’s talking about Saito Naoki again.
C: an overseas fan wrote that you’re gonna eat 1 million fan letters to celebrate 30, 000 subscribers.
I: It’s getting weird. Not 1 million fan letters. It’s head hunting 100 assistants and eating 10 years’ worth of fan letters.
C: How about becoming Fukuoka’s Banksy? (t/n: Banksy is a slang for people who do street arts.)
I: I wanna scribble on the wall too.
*Ishida trying to avoid people shooting at him while escaping from the place after killing the target.
I: They (the guards) remember who I am. Forget me, forget me. This is the opposite of unravel (TG op). Forget me 2x. Please forget me!
*Ishida trying to knock people out but ended up killing them.
I: Ah, I accidentally killed him. Whatever, people will one day die either way.
I: Reverse of unravel will be ravel. (TMI: According to Merriam-Webster, both unravel and ravel mean the same thing.)
I: The assistant head hunting suggestion is a good idea for the 30,000 commemoration. Goubaru probably can do it, though he’s working elsewhere. He’s working someplace else, where he gets sexually harassed. People touched his butt everyday. So pitiful. “I hate it!” (t/n: Ishida imitating Goubaru.) He receives body check from people.
Y****: Please do a career consultation.
I: I’m okay with that. Well, we’ve known each other for a year already. It’s because I was able to distinguish between you and S******. I’ve got to considerably know what you guys are like. Y****is in the theatre club, while S****** is the one who addresses Hikakin (a Japanese youtuber) as ‘that guy’. S****** has a sharp tongue.
I: Y****, where do you wanna go to in the future?
*Ishida reading this person’s comment.
I: You’re in the theatre club, but you wanna be a musician?! Lots of dreams you got there. You have so many dreams. You’re 16, 17 years old, right? You can just be anything, then. How about trying it out? Which one do you wanna do?
C: You can still become a musician even if you’re in the theatre club.
I: That’s true. Hoshino gen also did theatre before, if I’m not mistaken. I’m not sure though. It’s okay if you haven’t decided yet. There are still many possibilities for you.
(t/n: Hoshino Gen is an actor & singer)
C: Theatre requires high ability to express yourself, so I think it’s applicable to music as well.
I: That’s right. That applies to both. You can use the ability to express yourself that you’ve gained from theatre in music. Likewise, since music has various genre, I think it offers a lot of things to theatre. Just like you said. I think either way is good.
I: I think it’s just a matter of where you’ll end up eventually. It’s not like I’ve been writing manga all this while. I dreamed of becoming a mangaka because I didn’t want to get a job. I didn’t want to work, so I wanted to become a mangaka.
C: Well, you can learn anything.
I: Exactly.
C: I wanna quit being a member of society.
I: I didn’t say anything about that.
C: I’m 21, but I wanna be a high-schooler.
I: That’s impossible. Turning back time is impossible. Let’s focus on the real world.
C: Can I decide on my future dream based on impure motives?
I: I think it’s okay. It’s not a bad thing to have that kind of reasons. It’s okay to wanna be popular or wanting money. I think just having that is enough. But what happen after you achieve that is gonna be another story.
C: Sometimes, you can be happy just by drawing and playing games.
I: That is important.
C: My beloved dog that I’ve had for 14 years died recently. What should I do with this lingering affection that I have?
I: I understand how you feel. This is a difficult topic. I think it’s good to have a lingering affection. You can’t help but to have that kind of feelings when you lose a life. Time is the only way to heal wounds.
I: in the end, which one did Y**** choose? Did it end with him saying he’ll do his best? He’s having a trouble deciding whether to go to a vocational school or enter university. I see. Vocational school or university… You’ll spend 4 years in university and you need to manage your own time, so if you don’t have any confidence you’ll be able to manage yourself, it’ll be hard for you. But university is a good place for you if you wanna experience various things and obtain various knowledge.
* Ishida then continued giving a super long speech about Y****’s worries without knowing that he’s already slept.
C: Y**** already said good night.
I: Seriously?! He’s gone to bed?! You’re kidding me! Eh? He’s already sleeping?
*Scrolling for the guy’s comment.
I: “I feel much better now. Good night.” Hahaha. That guy’s gone to sleep. So irritating! What’s up with him? Even though I did my best to give him advice.
MM: On the contrary, don’t you have any worries, sensei?
I: MM’s here again. I’m gonna pin this.
I: My worries? I do have though, but I won’t tell you guys. It’s not really a worry, just something I should think about. Even if it was something serious, I’ll solve it by myself.
*Ishida continued answering the fans’ worries related to school and work. (t’n: I didn’t translate this part because I feel like I’d be disclosing personal info, so I refrained from doing that. I only translated if it’s related to manga or mangaka’s questions.)
C: My relative told me that it’s hard to make a living as a mangaka. As expected, am I dreaming too much? What do you think?
I: I don’t know. It depends on your ability and the effort you put in. Your relative might’ve seen your work and gave some comment. Even for me, people wanted me to quickly give up pursuing this path. I heard about it later though. So, no one knows what will happen in the future.
I: It’s hard to make a living as a mangaka? If it was before, I can understand that. On the contrary, this notion is now no longer applicable. Now, whatever jobs you do is hard. If you were to say you wanna work in a restaurant, people will be opposed to it, but you wanna be a chef no matter what. Anything you do is gonna be tough, after all. First of all, you’re allowed to choose what you wanna be no matter if it’s tough or whatever. And relatively, being a mangaka has a wide scope of jobs. It’s just that people don’t know about it. I think when there’s a will, there’s a way. If you wanna pursue that because you want it to be made into an anime or drama, then it might be difficult for you since that depends on luck.** Well, I’m able to manage my life better than other professions, especially in this period since I can just do my work at home.** Also, if you think it’s okay for you even if it’s tough, then I think you can just do whatever you wanna do. I’m not talking about you putting effort. Even if it’s tough, just by aiming for it is fun. Something like that. If you can live in such manner, then you can just go for it no matter if it’s tough or not.
C: I don’t wanna be a mangaka. I just wanna write manga.
I: That’s good. Let’s write one.
*He continued giving advice to fans.

Tumblr media
With your arm finally healing and being free from the stupid cast, you were back in the game. And after your infamous falling-out with Yuju, which somehow every single student in the school was aware of, things were going back to what you considered was normal. Basically, things were the same as they were before Yuju came and made a mess in your already messy life. Everyone was scared of you again, you kept your distance with certain individuals, and teachers were on the lookout just in case you do something that might get you in trouble.
Although you were once again a top dog in the school, that didn’t mean that you were as tough as you were before.
Obviously the whole thing with Yuju affected you to the point where you actually wanted to come back to her and apologize, maybe hang out with her again but you didn’t see the point in that when she has made it clear that she does want something more than being friends, and you? Well, now you can answer truthfully that romance was simply something that didn’t ‘fit’ your lifestyle. It would explain the constant push-and-pull game you were having with yourself whenever Yuju made you feel something.
I think.
You have also stopped talking to Seokmin, for obvious reasons. You silently wished him luck on his journey to wooing Yuju, although it bothers you to think about your two best friends kissing and being sweet. But you would be happy.
Yuju deserves someone who can make her smile.
“Yuju deserves someone who can do more than that.”
Ah, yes. You always had to deal with one Jung Yerin every morning. You never tried to chase her off because even if you did, she would still spend every single second of her life to bother you.
“Yerin, babe, it’s been three months. Can we just forget about all of this?” SinB asks, leaning against the locker next to yours and shaking her head when Yerin refuses to back down from a lost battle.
“I can’t sleep because of this, Eunbi! I hate it when our friends fight.” Yerin complained. She’s been at it ever since you called it off with Yuju and she has shown no signs of stopping. You appreciated what she was trying to do but you wished that she would try to understand why you even stopped being friends with Yuju. Perhaps Yerin does understand but refuses to acknowledge it because she was so close to her ‘dream’.
Her dream of finally getting me a girlfriend… I can’t believe her sometimes.
“So do I but we have to respect (Y/N) and Yuju. Let’s not force our way into their business anymore, alright?” SinB says, hoping to finally push through her girlfriend’s stubbornness and calm her down. It works because Yerin doesn’t say anything else but melt into SinB’s arms, muttering something about how things are so unfair.
“If it’s meant to work out, then it’ll work out.” SinB said. You glared at her, but she only smirks. Oh, that stupid smirk. She was trying to provoke a reaction out of you, but you would never let Hwang SinB have her way.
You crossed your arms over your chest, “You know, I really don’t appreciate it whenever you guys talk as if I’m not right beside you.” You said. It was only seven-thirty in the morning. There was lots of time for you to scold your friends, and hopefully to relax in the library a little.
“Well, sometimes you act like you’re not with us whenever we’re hanging out together! Imagine how we feel.” Yerin countered. That was because you were trying to drive them off. Yerin and SinB are great friends, but you didn’t want them to get involved in your mess. You thought that giving them the cold shoulder and not uttering a single word to them would make them stop lurking around, but that proved to be false. Obviously.
“Maybe next time don’t hang out with me. It’ll be better for all of us.” You rebuked and started walking to the direction of the library without another word. There were students crowding the hallways, it was like everyone simultaneously decided to come to school at exactly seven-thirty. Well, at least you didn’t have to literally squeeze your way in and out of the hallway because the crowds part for you.
Suddenly, you feel an arm wrapping around your shoulders and you really were about to knock out whoever dared to touch you until you hear that annoying voice.
“You’re so cute when you act mean to us.” Yerin says as she and her girlfriend end up next to you again. I’m not getting out of this hell, aren’t I?
SinB nods, “Seriously! Continue being like that and we’ll have no choice but to fall in love with you.” She teased with a wink.
“You guys are into that?” You asked, genuinely curious.
“Hell yeah! One girlfriend is a dream come true enough on its own, imagine having two!” Yerin gushed. They had a point, but having Yerin and SinB as girlfriends… would be torture. They were already too much for you as friends! And so, you immediately chuck that bizarre idea out of your thoughts but somehow the couple knew that you thought about it and teased you.
You laughed at all their jokes, “Sorry. You guys are hot but neither of you are my type.” Yerin and SinB then started booing you following your confession, but you ignored them and entered the library. Surprisingly enough, they followed along. They earned a couple of shushes as soon as they stepped inside, making you stifle a laugh and immediately run for an aisle to hide your embarrassment.
While Yerin and SinB sat on a table to chat quietly amongst themselves, you scoured the shelves for something to read. You haven’t had a novel in your hands for three weeks, mostly because you just lost interest in reading since you could finally do other things with your arm finally being on top condition. And the other reason was because Seokmin is almost always in the library doing stuff.
You really didn’t want to come across him ever. You knew that he would ask questions and you didn’t know if you were in control of your emotions enough to not shut him down.
“This looks nice.” You muttered, staring down at a book that had a particularly interesting cover. After reading the synopsis, you head to the librarian’s desk to borrow the novel for a week, but you weren’t prepared to see Seokmin behind the computer that almost covered his whole face. The universe hates me.
It was too late to back out. You were literally the only person in line and it was obvious that you were going to the desk in the first place. Walking away would just be awkward. Other than Seokmin, there was another face at the desk that you longed to avoid at least after spring break, maybe forever too. The universe really hates me.
Yuju didn’t look surprised to see you at all. She was more… happy. It made you angry. After all the bullshit I pulled, she’s still like this.
“I’ll see you later, Seokmin.” Yuju said, patting the boy’s arm and walking away. You didn’t look at her as she went, but you felt her eyes on you before she completely disappeared from the library. What the hell? They’re talking now? They’re touching each other now? They’re— actually, good for them! Yeah… good for them.
“Are you going to be checking that out?” Seokmin asked. You blinked, suddenly remembering that you were here for a reason, and then you nodded, putting the novel down in front of Seokmin and letting him do his thing. Neither of you said a word to each other during that whole minute. You looked back at Yerin and SinB, only to find them staring at you and Seokmin blankly, waiting for something interesting to happen.
Whatever they’re hoping for, they won’t get it.
...Please don’t let them get it.
“She misses you, you know.”
Oh my God, he let them get it.
You braced yourself for a lengthy argument, “Seokmin, let’s not.” You said. You didn’t want to make a scene at such a peaceful place and disturb everyone’s tranquility, also you just didn’t want to talk to Seokmin about Yuju. One thing you would never be caught doing again is talking about someone behind their back!
“We should, it’s the healthy thing to do.” The boy insisted.
“Enough, Seokmin. It’s over, alright? Can I have that book now?” You asked.
Seokmin shakes his head, “Yuju cares so much about you, (Y/N)—”
“You don’t think I care about her?!” You snapped. You didn’t mean to. Something in you just broke, and then it was too late for you to stop yourself. Fortunately enough, classes were about to start, so pretty much every single student that was inside the room had begun to exit the library. Yerin and SinB were among those students, but they left solely because they wanted to give you and Seokmin some privacy.
Seokmin was unfazed. It was as if he was expecting you to lose your cool. Or he wanted to see you getting worked up. “If you did, you wouldn’t be so distant.” He said. His calm and reserved tone only added fuel to your fire. He doesn’t understand. Nobody understands.
“You’d never get it, Seokmin.” You muttered. All you wanted right now was to forget about all of this. Why can’t anybody see that? Even your two closest friends at the moment were pushing you to Yuju when you’ve expressed many times that you didn’t want anything to do with her anymore. Learn to take the fucking hint, everybody.
Seokmin clenched his jaw, and this was the first time you’ve ever seen him pissed. “Cut the crap, (Y/N). What the hell are you so afraid of? Why do you keep pushing people away? And don’t fucking tell me it’s because of your ‘reputation’ because I know, everybody knows, that Yuju doesn’t care about any of that. She just wants to be with you.”
I know that too.
“I don’t know what happened that day, but Yuju would’ve understood. Why would she ever leave? She loves you.” Seokmin continued. You weren’t exactly sure what was this boy’s motive, or why he was so passionate about this. Why was he fighting so hard? Did he think that he would actually crack through your thick skull and somehow persuade you to get back together with Yuju? Would you actually do it? I can’t fight this.
You glued your gaze to the carpeted floors of the library, suddenly deprived of energy. You were never good with fighting with words because everyone always finds a way to get under your skin. They always knew which words to use against you, and how could you fight people who were well-informed about your weaknesses? It was a losing battle.
“It was easier for me to lose her this way.” You said. Seokmin doesn’t say anything for a few seconds as he was trying to process your words in his head. While he was distracted, you snatched the novel from the desk but before you could leave, Seokmin looks at you with wide eyes and a half open mouth. He knows what you meant, and you couldn’t help but laugh bitterly.
“You love her.” Seokmin says rather breathlessly. You don’t say anything back. Instead, you huffed and made your way out of the library and it just hit you that you’d finally admitted it to someone, and to yourself. You never imagined that you would ever feel that way towards somebody. You always convinced yourself that you would never have the time for that. And since you weren’t exactly the sweetheart type, you thought that nobody would ever feel that way about you.
And then Yuju came into your life. Slowly, your heart changed and now you became this confused, irrational mess and it irritated you to no end. Because at least before Yuju came and rocked your world you had control of your thoughts, but now everything is just about her.
That damn beanpole.
“Are you alright?” SinB asked, putting her hand on your back. You nodded, offering your friends a weak smile. I don’t know.
Yerin loops her arm around yours, “Come on, let’s get to class.” She then started walking down the hallway. Not feeling like speaking anymore, you expressed your gratitude by leaning into Yerin a little bit and she responds by briefly putting her head down on your shoulder. If the two of them weren’t here, I wouldn’t have been able to move.
The walk to your first class was quiet, but it was comforting. It turns out that your school doesn’t always feel like hell. When the hallways are empty and silent, you could say that the place could feel… uplifting. For exactly one moment you weren’t thinking about Yuju, and that was a moment where you felt relaxed for the first time in a while.
 -
“This is an intervention,” Just when I think that I’d be given a break, the Devil arrives. Not you, Eunha. I still like you. It turns out that you weren’t going to be left alone at all on this one fine day. First, the annoying couple you call your best friends. Second, the boy who managed to provoke you into yelling and finally, Kim Sojung. And Eunha, and Yewon. They’re like three peas in a pod. “For your information, I am not doing this willingly.” Sojung says, crossing her arms. That was obvious enough.
Yerin anxiously waits behind you, not knowing the right words to say at the moment.
“Good morning?” You fretted, scratching your head. There was five minutes before the second class started and usually, you would spend these precious minutes packing up and preparing for the incoming period but it seems like that routine will be broken today. Please do not let this go on for more than a few seconds.
Sojung closes your locker, “We need to talk about you and Yuju.” She said. Of course. You sigh deeply, everything is about her now. Just as you were about to speak, SinB happened to walk by and now you were convinced that things are just about to get messier. What’s next? Yuju comes too? Wait, I can’t jinx it. I take that back. Don’t make her come here.
“What the fuck? You guys are having a family meeting without me?” SinB mused, automatically running to her girlfriend’s embrace.
Sojung ignores the younger girl, completely shutting her out, “So, let me just say that I only went along with this idea because of Eunha and I like Yuju. But I don’t like you, and I don’t care what happens to you or what you’re feeling—”
“She does care, she just can’t admit it.” Yewon chimed in.
“Yewon, shush,” Sojung holds her index finger up to her younger sister’s face, and then she points at you. You stared back at her with a blank expression, you really just wanted to get to class. “You need to be aware of the things that Yuju has been doing ever since you broke up with her.” The tall girl said.
You furrowed your eyebrows, “I was never dating her—”
“Yeah, that’s not what I thought. I’m pretty sure you two would’ve kissed if you weren’t constantly surrounded by people,” Sojung snickered. She wasn’t… completely wrong. You never wanted to kiss Yuju, but if she ever made a move to kiss you, well, you wouldn’t stop her. Does that one time in the hallway count as her trying to kiss me? Would I have stopped her? Seeing the look of shyness on your face, Sojung smiles smugly, knowing that she has struck the right nerve. “Genius, that is what I am.” She bragged.
“I will punch you in the face.” You stated.
Eunha finally decides to come in between you and Sojung after realizing that letting her girlfriend handle this situation would be pointless, “Okay, let’s just have a healthy conversation for once.” She suggested with a smile.
You sighed and leaned into your locker, “What do you want?” You asked. The bell rings, but neither of you moved. Even Yerin, SinB, and Yewon who probably have no business being in here didn’t leave. You were happy about that though because then you wouldn’t have to deal with Sojung alone.
“Yuju… really wanted to know,” Eunha started. You shake your head, this again. You considered completely shutting everything out, but Eunha’s next words kept you listening. “She pretty much asked everybody that she thought knew about it. Me, Sojung, other people… and Jennie.”
Upon the mention of your old friend’s name, your mind goes haywire. Yuju? Talked to Jennie? About… about that?! “Why the fuck would she do that?” You asked with your voice wavering. Jennie was merciless to those she deemed unworthy of her attention. Pretty old school considering she’s just another student, but the difference between her and the others was that she was rich and she was the principal’s relative, somehow that automatically makes her someone who has a lot of power.
And if one holds power, they’re allowed to act however they want. That’s usually bad. Especially for the lesser powerful students. Students like Yuju.
“Because you didn’t tell her anything, doofus.” Sojung taunted.
“It was for her own good,” You ran your hand through your hair and sighed once again. “I didn’t… think she would do that. How does she even know about Jennie?” You uttered. Yewon avoids your gaze, Eunha shifts awkwardly on her spot, and Sojung just stares at… something. You follow the eldest’s gaze and your eyes landed on… Jung Yerin.
Yerin bit her lower lip and fidgeted with her shirt, “I only told Yuju what I know! That I guessed that (Y/N) got involved with Jennie at some point!” She confessed more to SinB who was the most confused out of everyone at the moment.
“Well, good job anyway. You successfully got the purest girl in the school on the leading lady’s radar. Nothing bad is going to happen.” Sojung says sarcastically.
Before Sojung and Yerin could argue, Yewon interrupts both of them. “Can you guys enlighten me though? I know Jennie is… kinda mean but why is this so bad? She wouldn’t do anything rash to someone she barely knows, right?” Yewon asked. Being a student who always minds her own business, Yewon doesn’t really pay attention to anything else other than her grades and whatever her sister gets herself into.
Sojung sternly glares at you as she talks to her sister, “Jennie and our good friend over here, and also a couple of certain other people, wanted to keep what happened that day a big secret so that the important ones don’t get in trouble with the principal.” The oldest explained. Well, Sojung, how do you know so much about this? I’m more surprised that the whole story hasn’t got out yet. It’s been months. Jennie’s grip on this school is insane.
“We’re not going to force you to tell us anything if it makes you uncomfortable, or if Jennie scares you, or if you just don’t wanna say a word about it at all but… since Yuju is involved now, we just want to know how bad it really was.” Eunha says gently, taking your hand in hers and reassuring you with a kind smile. You felt warm inside, you missed her being your friend.
You take a deep breath to calm your nerves. You preferred not pulling anyone else into your mess, even if it was Sojung who annoyed the hell out of you because they could get in real danger. But since Eunha was asking so nicely, and they do deserve some sort of explanation for their friend, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to tell them something. For Yuju’s sake.
“Well, you already know the guy got sent to a hospital,” You started, slowly pulling your hand from Eunha’s hold. All of the girls nod. Anyone who heard about the fight knew that much, but everything else was twisted that nobody was sure which story was the truth. It was exactly what Jennie wanted. “The thing is… that guy is Jennie’s close friend. Maybe boyfriend, or ex. I don’t fucking know, but he meant something to her and since he was the jackass that started it, Jennie didn’t want him to receive the short end of the stick.” You continued. You try your hardest to keep such grotesque images from that night out of your head for as long as you can.
The girls listen intently. You couldn’t tell what they were thinking. “If anyone with a big mouth were to ever find out about the truth… I’m not sure they would be safe.” You said. Thinking of Yuju being brutally pushed around the hallways by Jennie’s minions made your blood boil. Nobody deserves to be treated with such cruelty, especially Yuju who just wanted to understand you more.
This is my fault. I got her into this. I have to get her out.
Swallowing your own stubbornness, you made up your mind about what you could do to get Yuju out of this chaotic situation. It was probably the only way. “Has she been asking about this since… you know.” You muttered. Sojung nods, much to your dismay.
“Three months… I’m surprised she’s not dead,” You tried to joke. It landed poorly though. You shook your head, never the time for that kind of jest. “I’ll… tell her.” You confessed.
There was a moment of silence, and you weren’t sure if the girls heard you or not because they looked at you as if your words went inside one ear and out the other. What is so confusing about that? I thought it was pretty straightforward.
“Tell her you love her?” Yerin blurted out.
You blushed furiously, “The truth! What the fuck, Yerin!”
“Oh my God, you love her?” Sojung asked, covering her mouth. “This is so much better than I expected.” She exclaimed. If it wasn’t for her girlfriend, Sojung would’ve teased you to no end so once again, you were thankful for Eunha’s existence. SinB smiles fondly at you, finally feeling relieved now that you’ve succumbed to what your heart has been saying for so long.
You were relieved too, somewhat. Because now you’re not in a constant battle with yourself, but the problem is how you’re even going to talk to Yuju after this revelation.
That’s a problem to solve for some other time.
 -
Just as lunch time started, you told Yerin and SinB that you would be doing something important that will keep you busy for the rest of the period. They didn’t say much about it and allowed you to go on your merry way, fortunately enough. With some courage and a pre-rehearsed speech, you entered the half-empty library. Just as you expected, Seokmin was quietly eating a sandwich on one of the tables, scrolling through social media on his phone.
Taking a deep breath and muttering some quick words of wisdom to yourself, you slowly approached Seokmin.
The boy slowly raises his head after sensing your presence, and you almost laughed at how shocked he looked to see you for the second time in one day.
“Hey.” You greeted.
Seokmin rushed to swallow his food, then he cleared his throat and nodded at you. “Hi.” He said.
“Can I sit here?” You asked, pulling out the chair across from him. Seokmin nodded again and you sat down, taking out your own sandwich and putting it down on the table, but doing nothing else. How do you even start talking to someone you avoided for no reason? Seokmin did not deserve to receive the cold shoulder from you because looking back at it again, he literally should not even be involved in your problem. It’s all because of…
Suddenly, it hit you. Nothing about this was Yuju’s fault. Nothing about everything you were going through was Yuju’s fault. All this time you’ve been blaming an innocent person for nothing when all of this wouldn’t have happened if you had just dealt with it the right way instead of running.
I have a lot to apologize for… but I’ll save it for when I actually see her again.
“I’ll make things right.” You say out of nowhere. That was meant to be a thought, damn it.
Seokmin keeps nodding, and he couldn’t help but smile at your promise. “I figured as much. You would never leave any loose ends.” He said.
“Oh? You know me now?” You teased, raising an eyebrow.
Seokmin’s smile just gets brighter, “Anyone with a pulse wouldn’t just let their loved one go without proper closure.” He replied.
Hearing someone refer to Yuju as your ‘loved one’ made your skin tingle and it doesn’t help that you were aware of your feelings for her now. Some part of you wants to be hopeful and end all of this with Yuju by your side, but then once again, fear strikes you. Would Yuju be really happy with you finally opening up to her? Isn’t it too late for that? Did she actually mean it earlier when she looked at you like you were everything she was hoping to see at that time?
And were you actually prepared for all of this?
“She never stopped talking about you,” Seokmin blurted. Something about the atmosphere was making you feel strange, so you awkwardly looked around before paying attention to your friend once again. “For a long time, the only thing that came out of her mouth was your name.” The boy continued, taking out the unwanted pickles in his sandwich. You tilt your head to the side, wondering why this was so awkward for you.
“It was borderline obsession but she was cute so I looked past that.” Seokmin admitted, sighing blissfully.
“Can we stop talking about her like she passed away? Like I’m pretty sure she’s eavesdropping on us right now.” You said, once again looking around you trying to find someone who was not even there.
Seokmin laughs, “What I meant to say was… you mean a lot to her, and I can assure you that all she wants right now is not even an apology, or an explanation, but a simple ‘hi’. Literally just look at her and she’ll be happy for the next few days.”
You couldn’t say anything to that, partly because most of what Seokmin said didn’t really stay in your brain. I should probably talk before it gets weird again.
“Are you… okay? With all of this?” You asked.
Seokmin puts his sandwich down, and he doesn’t respond. He was actually thinking hard about it while you sit there, anxiously waiting for his answer. You would willingly back off if Seokmin still has feelings for Yuju because all that matters to you at the moment was getting back on good terms with her.
I think.
As if Seokmin could tell what you were thinking, he addresses it. “There’s… really no point in holding on anymore.” He said with a sad smile.
“That’s not… true. She could fall for you after all of this.” You replied. It felt strange hearing yourself say that out loud.
Seokmin laughed again, then he started shaking his head. You couldn’t tell if he was sad or angry. Maybe both, but probably not. “No, no. That girl is completely in over her head for you.” And you knew that. You just didn’t want to find out just how much. Too much love will kill you or whatever. Also you get flustered really easily.
You took a bite out of your sandwich, “Did you ever try with her?” You asked. Alright, maybe asking that was too much but I’m nosy.
“Yeah but… either she’s unbelievably slow or she wanted to let me down easily by constantly… friend-zoning me.” Seokmin said. You wince, ouch. It didn’t look like Seokmin was bothered with it. Actually, he looked like he was merry about it all. It was weird because one would think that he would be miserable, but that was not the case.
(Of course you’d never think of it, but Seokmin was more happy about the fact that his two precious friends are going to be okay.)
Seokmin smirks as you drink your water, “Hey, at least you’re going to get some.” His words nearly made you spit out your drink, but when he lightly kicked your ankle as a tease you spilled water on your uniform.
Rather than getting angry about your now soiled shirt, you attempt to clear the air. “I’m talking to her to stop her from getting devoured by our common enemy! Not to get in her pants, God.” Who in their right mind would even try to use Yuju’s innocence to their advantage? A part of you is starting to doubt Seokmin’s infatuation towards Yuju. Did he really like her?
“Right, right. You might wanna clean yourself up though.” Seokmin gestured to your clothes. Well, this is just great. I don’t have a spare shirt. I’m probably gonna have to borrow the ones they have at the office with the school’s catchphrase and mascot on it.
You stood up from your seat and as you headed towards the library doors, you muttered some curses and threats to literally everything out of annoyance. Seokmin smiles as he watches you go, finally content that the two of you were friends again.
-
“Don’t spread to my skirt, don’t spread to my skirt, don’t spread to my skirt…” You chanted while running towards the nearest restroom. You earned several looks from students who were passing by and you have never been more embarrassed. Why didn’t I think of covering myself up at least?! Darn you, Seokmin!
As you neared the closest restroom you could find in the area, you heard a couple of muffled voices coming from inside the restroom. You couldn’t decipher the words you were barely hearing, but when you reached the entrance of the restroom, you recognized one of the voices inside. You could never really not know who that voice belongs to.
Jennie.
You considered turning back, not wanting to see the girl and deal with her for who-knows-how-long, but her next words stopped you from walking away.
“...just because you and (Y/N) had fun for a little while.”
Immediately, you pushed the door open with way too much force than you intended and entered the restroom. Jennie wasn't the only person inside, obviously. Her friends were there too: Jisoo, Chaeyoung, and Lisa. But there was another girl in the bunch. Someone who looked just a little bit out of place. The girl who has been clouding your mind ever since the first time you saw her today. I was right.
“(Y/N)...” Yuju stands by the farthest sink in the place. It looked like the other four girls were cornering her, but you weren’t sure of what was happening or what happened prior to this moment. It took you all your might to get a hold of yourself, not wanting to jump the gun. If they did anything to her… if they touched even one fucking strand of hair on her head…
“How nice of you to join us. We were just talking about you,” Jennie says with a sly smile. You avoid Yuju’s stare by looking at Jennie. Cute as ever but what the fuck does she want? “I was wondering if you’d like to come over to my place sometime this week. We have a lot to do.”
Oh, you know exactly what that meant. Somebody found out? Was it Yuju? Is that why they’re all over her right now?
You were about to go along and get dragged away without saying a word to the girl you actually wanted to talk to, but something inside you screamed at you to not do that. Get this over with. Get this over with.
“No thanks.” You deadpanned. You slipped in between Lisa and Chaeyoung, muttering a small ‘excuse me’ as you made your way towards Yuju.
Jennie stops you from walking any further towards the other girl, “You’re really going to fight this?” She asked.
“I’m not your pet, Jennie. Nobody is,” You turned around to face her again with newfound confidence. I was never anyone’s pet. Why did I even let her threats control me? I’m (Y/N) for God’s sake! I don’t answer to anyone. Stupid. “And for the record, I think it’s pretty douchey to keep hiding it as if no one’s gonna find out about it in less than two weeks. Why try to stop the inevitable?” You asked.
Jennie clenches her fists, however, she doesn’t say anything. You had a point, and she wasn’t going to try and fight that.
“I suggest that you clear the rumors before it gets out of hand. Grow the hell up and take responsibility. Trust me, it’s good for you.” You glance at your right arm which has long healed and recovered to its glory. “I know it was for me. See you never, Jen.”
The sophisticated girl scoffed, “You’ve grown soft, (Y/N). You’ll never survive here.” She said. And with that, she and her friends left without saying anything else, but you couldn’t help but roll your eyes at her words. For fuck’s sake, we’re in high school! The worst you can do to someone is throw their textbook on the ocean and make them pay hundreds of dollars for it even though it wasn’t their fault.
Yuju fidgets with the ends of her sleeves, unsure of what to do now that she was alone with you. You were feeling the same. How do you even start talking to her? Maybe the best thing to do right now is see if they did anything to her. With that in mind, you cautiously took several steps towards the taller girl. Yuju had her head hung low, what’s wrong?
You raised your hand, but stopped halfway. Is this the right thing to do? Can I even do this? All of your doubts were washed away when your eyes met Yuju’s hopeful ones, and you continued your action. You carefully brushed Yuju’s hair away from her face, and you expected to see her perfect like always, but there was a cut on her cheek and it made you see red so quickly.
“Did they do this?” You asked, clenching your jaw. I knew they wouldn’t leave her without a scratch!
“No, they didn’t—”
“Then who did?” You cut her off.
“(Y/N)—” Again.
“Doesn’t matter. I’ll find them and then I’ll—” This time, Yuju keeps you from talking by taking your hand and squeezing it tightly, snapping you out of your little cloud of rage. At least it calmed you down a little, and it totally distracted you from the fact that your soaked shirt was the reason you came in here in the first place.
“Do you… have a bandage with you?” Yuju asked. She didn’t move her hand. Good.
You nodded timidly, “I have some.” You replied. Since you get in fights way too often, your brother has advised you to keep several bandages inside your jacket and your backpack just in case you start bleeding. Now you were finally going to put them to use after a while.
While you fished through the inner pockets of your jacket, Yuju waits patiently, and then she finally notices that you were completely soaked with water. “What happened to you?” The tall girl asked. You hummed questioningly, not quite hearing what she said as you were busy and when you looked up, Yuju was completely dazed. Realizing that she had been staring rather inappropriately, Yuju’s face quite literally heats up. Is that how I look when I get flustered?
“I was eating lunch with Seokmin and… it’s a long story actually, don’t worry about it.” You said, waving your hand. Finally, you got a hold of several bandages and you handed them to Yuju with a proud smile on your face. Looking down at the colorful bandages, colorful and cute animal bandages, Yuju fails to prevent a giggle from coming out of her mouth.
You pouted, “What? Don’t you think they’re cute? Look at this it’s got an excited puppy hugging a sleepy puppy!” You exclaimed as you pointed at the tan colored one. Yuju could only nod, handing you back your favorite one and putting the others on her backpack for future uses. I hope there’s never a time where she has to use all of those.
“Yes, yes, you’re adorable. Could you put that on me, please?” Yuju asked, leaning her face closer to yours.
“I was talking about the dogs… but whatever.” You muttered. There was no point in arguing with Yuju about these kinds of things because if you learned from when you were still friends, you always end up as a blushing mess after every fight about cute things. How does she even do that? Maybe you’re really just that much of a softie.
Or, well, maybe it’s because of Yuju.
You held Yuju’s chin in your hand to keep her face steady, and you noticed that blood was starting to drip down from the cut. You wiped it off slowly, careful to not touch the wound and hurt Yuju. You stared at the taller girl’s (beautiful) face, familiarizing yourself with her features once again and this time, you didn’t exactly flinch when her eyes fluttered open all of a sudden.
As you stared down at your hand with Yuju’s blood on it, you were reminded of a similar scene months ago, although the situation was so, so much worse.
That’s when everything started to come back to you again. Flashing neon lights that were suddenly blinding, deafening bad music, and more than ten pairs of eyes watching you, judging you, horrified of you. And then finally, the heavy atmosphere that made it hard for you to breathe and nearly suffocated you before you finally ran out of the room, away from everyone’s watchful eyes… and the one unconscious body on the floor where you had just been standing.
“(Y/N), hey,” Yuju snaps you out of your train of horrible thoughts. She noticed how you reacted to her blood, she took it upon herself to wipe it off and get you back to reality. “I’ll do it.” She whispered, smiling and reaching for the bandage in your hand, but you pulled your hand back.
She has to know what I did, she has to hear it from me.
Somehow, Yuju caught on to what you were thinking. “I’m not… going to push you anymore. I know what happens when I do that.” Maybe she's psychic. She tries to take the bandage again, but you still pulled away and it made her sigh deeply.
You shake your head, “Not this time.” You said. Once again, you took her chin and tilted her face up. Goosebumps spread across your skin when Yuju rested one of her hands at your hip, and the way she stared at you made you sick to your stomach, in a good way. You raised the bandage close to Yuju’s face, and then you finally covered the wound, gently pressing the bandage so that it attaches to her soft skin.
Yuju doesn’t say anything for a while, and neither do you as you were trying to collect your thoughts. Maybe this wasn’t the ideal situation, since you always imagined that you would be telling her somewhere that was not a school restroom, but she’s here right now, willing to listen. She will always be willing to listen, but if you don’t tell her now, will you ever be able to?
That was a question that ran circles inside your brain for a while. It felt like you were taking forever thinking about it but of course, Yuju stayed patient, even going as far as to not say anything about the muffled sound of the bell ringing from the hallways. Sighing heavily, you pry her hand away from your hip and take a step back.
The more you thought about it, the more you came to terms with the fact that there was never going to be a perfect moment for something like this. And again, you were reminded that it really doesn’t matter if you don’t tell her now or not because she will find it out, especially after you’ve given Jennie a piece of your mind. You remind yourself that she has to hear the story from your perspective, and then leave her to think hard about and decide what to think of you after everything.
It’s a simple job… but with extreme risks.
Taking a deep breath, you decided to get it over with, as you always told yourself whenever you faced a big dilemma.
“A few weeks into the new school year, Jennie decided to throw a stupid party since we’re all in seniors and it might be the last time we can have fun,” Yuju’s head snaps up once you start talking. Then you find yourself chuckling at your words, she was right about that at least. “She invited a lot of her friends, and some other rich students in the school. There were also these older kids, I think they were in college. They got there much earlier than I did. By the time I joined the fun, pretty much everyone was buzzed.” You said. You remember being disgusted at how every corner of the room that day reeked of alcohol and sweat.
“I was roaming around in the kitchen, looking for something decent to eat when I noticed this one girl staring at me and you know I had to talk to her about that,” You continued. Yuju nodded, and you truly hoped that she wasn’t thinking about it the wrong way. She knows that I meant that I had to confront the girl, right? Because of my temper? Please tell me she knows that. “I thought she was judging me but it turns out she was just interested, and I was super bored so I decided to play along.” Then you looked at yourself in the mirror for a brief second, attempting to prepare yourself as the turning point of that whole situation replays in your head for the umpteenth time.
“One thing led to another and suddenly she was all over me. I didn’t mind it, she was pretty. But… some people still had problems with girls hooking up,” You clenched your fist at the memory. This is it. Come on, (Y/N). Yuju stands closer to you, offering her support and comfort with her presence, but this time it wasn’t working so well. Again, you were scared because you had a feeling that she won’t be so close to you anymore when you start talking again. Still, you push through it, having had enough of dragging it on. “There was this guy, um, he was wasted as hell and he was saying stuff. You know me, I get riled up easily but I had to remind myself that he was drunk. He didn’t know what kind of messed up bullshit he was saying, right? But then he started touching the girl I was with and when I tried to tell him to go away… he said that word.”
You didn’t have to look at Yuju to know that she understood what you were saying. The longer the moment replays in your head, the more you got confused as to why Jennie worked so hard to hide it in the first place. Who was that guy to her? She would’ve rather allowed me, her literal friend and schoolmate, to get hurt rather than disciplining that guy!
“I don’t know. I lost it. As soon as the word fell from his stupid mouth, I didn’t waste another second and decked him in the face. Then I did it again. And again, and again, and I didn’t stop until a couple of other kids pulled me away,” You release a shaky breath as the image of the older guy laying on the floor flashed in your head. You remember looking down at your hands covered in his blood, then the eyes, and everything else. Your chest started getting heavy as the weight of your actions started settling in. “I could’ve killed that guy.” You said with your voice quivering.
Slowly, Yuju takes both of your hands and pulls you into her. You allowed yourself to melt into her embrace, appreciating her warmth that managed to chase away some of the horrific feelings inside your chest. However, you were immediately reminded of the situation and you pulled away from the taller girl quickly.
You chuckled bitterly, “Scared of me yet?” You asked. It was meant to be a joke question, but you secretly hoped that she would answer honestly and seriously, even if the worst of your predictions about this discussion ends up being the outcome.
“A little,” Yuju admitted. Your heart squeezes within itself just a little bit and every breath you took was like a needle poking at it, making everything hurt just a tad bit more. “But you did that to protect yourself, and the girl. He was harassing her, plus he literally called you a slur.”
Are there any right words for you to say after that? Somehow it felt like the conversation was over, but the heaviness stayed in your chest and now Yuju’s presence only gave you anxiety rather than comfort. You nodded to yourself, suddenly remembering that you had a class to attend and totally forgetting about your shirt that has now dried after minutes of being left alone.
“Right…” You muttered. What are we supposed to do now?
“Does it feel lighter?” Yuju suddenly asks. You looked up at her, confused. She steps forward and puts her hand on your chest, where your heart was. “Right here.” She said. Oh.
“No,” You shook your head, taking her hand and letting it fall down to your side with yours. What was she going to do with that information? Did she really just want to know because she wanted to understand you better? Suddenly, you didn’t get Yuju’s motives, but that was something you felt like you had to think about while laying in your bed and staring at your boring empty ceiling. “I feel sick.”
Yuju hums, “You’ve been bottling all of that in a while. I wanted to… free you from it, but I thought I had to know every single thing before I try to do anything about it. I’m sorry if I… pressured you.” She says, laying her head low. Has she always known that something was bothering me? Is that why she got interested in the first place? A lot of questions filled your head and when you opened your mouth to ask her one, the door suddenly flew open and you remembered that yes, you were in a public space.
And that the two of you were at least half an hour late to your classes.
“Come on, let’s get out of here.” You said and dragged the taller girl out of the restroom before the student that entered noticed anything that was out of the blue. Yuju only lets you lead her through the hallways because you were holding her hand, and nothing makes her happier than seeing you being so close to her.
How do we even recover from any of this? I can’t just suddenly talk to her about my feelings after all the things I just dumped on her.
Wait.
That’s right. I do have feelings for her.
As you tread the empty hallways, you realized that you had no idea where you were even trying to go. Since you were late to your class, you didn’t feel like going anymore but as for Yuju… well, things might be different. You looked over your shoulder, only to see the taller girl looking at you like she hadn’t seen you in forever. Some part of that is true considering the amount of time you were apart from each other.
But a sly smirk makes its way onto your face because at some point, you knew that Yuju looked at you whenever you were in the same space, even if she made effort to avoid you too back then.
“Are you sure you’re fine wearing your uniform? That was wet, you know. You could get sick.” Yuju says with the utmost concern.
You nodded, “It’s alright. It’s dry now and I’m not—”
“Made of glass, yes. It’s a famous saying from you.” Yuju finishes your sentence, or more like she cuts you off, wearing a teasing smile.
You shoot her a playful glare, “You, Yerin and SinB… and probably Seokmin too. You all use my own words against me.” You said, letting out a dramatic long sigh of defeat. It does get tiring dealing with a couple of smartasses for friends, but you love them all the same. Speaking of Seokmin… I should probably get my stuff back. My poor sandwich is still in the library.
“I’m glad you guys are talking again.” Yuju mentions. You nodded, you felt the same. Although you didn’t imagine that the first time you and the boy have a proper conversation ends up with you spilling water all over your uniform but at the same time, it felt fitting that it would be like that.
“Did he ever ask you again?” You asked.
Yuju turns her head at you, utterly muddled, “Ask me out?” She repeated.
“Yeah. Remember when he approached you before lunch time? He was hoping to take you out on a date, did he ever do that again?” You were genuinely curious.
“No? I mean, I don’t think so. How would I know?” Yuju shrugs. It just dawned on you that she might’ve been oblivious of Seokmin’s feelings all along. You felt bad for your friend, but then again if you told him about it he would laugh with you.
“You are unbelievable, Yuju. You’re telling me that for three months you didn’t notice that he had a big crush on you?” You questioned her again.
“He did not! And why would I look at someone else when you’re around?” Yuju tries to flirt by winking at you. Yes, the charm worked but you weren’t going to let her get away with that.
“Stop changing the subject. He totally— wait, this isn’t the way to the library.” You said as you looked around at the familiar and yet unfamiliar surroundings. You were able to identify that you and Yuju had somehow landed in the science hallway of the building though. Yuju lets go of your hand and looks out the big windows, staring at the flowers down at the garden and letting herself be mesmerized by nature’s beauty, and totally ignoring the fact that the two of you had gotten lost while chatting.
This was where you first told her your name, and where you messed with her. Back then she was completely dazed at the flowers too, and you smiled at the familiarity of it all.
You crossed your arms over your chest, “You said you wouldn’t want to look at anything else while I’m around and yet you’ve forgotten about me. For flowers.” You joked.
Yuju hums, then she smiles but it wasn’t the kind of smile that made your heart flutter and filled your stomach with butterflies, it was a smile that told you that she was up to something. “Oh? So you admit that you don’t want me to look at anything else but you?” She asked, now walking towards you with that mischievous glint in her beautiful eyes. Fuck.
“H-How did you even make that connection?” You tried to avoid stuttering, but now Yuju was extremely close and somehow your feet got glued to the ground. Is this how she felt when I did it?!
“(Y/N),” Yuju’s tongue runs across her upper lip briefly, just like you did back then. You squint at her actions, finding her ridiculous while simultaneously feeling incredibly embarrassed at the thought of you probably looking stupid months ago. At least she looks nice doing it now. I was injured and it was my first day back from the hospital, I must’ve looked funny. “Would you like to talk about that?” The tall girl asked, her eyes darting from your flushed cheeks, to your nose, and then your lips.
You stifled a laugh, “Slow down. Save it for later, lovergirl.” You said, putting your hands on the other girl’s shoulders and gently pushing her back to create distance. One because you were close to combusting and two because you might’ve not been able to control yourself. The things you make me feel.
Yuju grins, “On that cute little coffee shop after school?” She asked, which you nodded your head to.
“Your treat.” You say with a smirk before turning around and walking back. This time, you were actually going to the library. Yuju jogs up beside you, still wearing a big smile on her face and she wraps her hand around yours.
“I don’t mind as long as it’s for you.”
“...”
“Oh my goodness, you let me finish!”
“Well, maybe we don’t always have to save the romantics for later.”
 -
 After screaming to your older brother a quick goodbye, you do your best to slip on your sneakers in record breaking time and run out of the house, not even bothering to tie up your shoelaces. If you even stop or slow down for half a second, you would miss your bus and it takes a whole hour for the next one to pass by your neighborhood and there was just something that was not right about arriving at school exactly on time. Maybe it was just you. It was probably just you.
As you sprint towards the bus stop, you noticed how cold it really was. It was weird considering how it was usually not always chilling whenever you went out on your usual routine. Did I not read the weather right? Oh, who am I kidding? The weather is always unpredictable.
When you arrived at your destination, you recognized a familiar face sitting at the bench quietly and when the girl spots you, she mirrors the same look of bewilderment as you walked closer to the bench. What is she doing here? And why so early in the morning?
“Yuna, babe,” After two weeks of dating, you realized that you didn't even know Yuju’s full name and she didn’t tell you because she thought that you knew. Apparently, her full real name was Choi Yuna, and even now that the two of you have been together for a month and a half, your girlfriend’s name still sounded as fresh and beautiful as it did when you first heard it. Hell, I can’t even believe she’s my girlfriend. Girlfriend! “What are you doing here?” You asked.
“Looks like somebody forgot that she will be riding the bus with her girlfriend to school this morning,” Yuju teased. You scratched your head, dumbfounded. Yeah, I did forget that. What the hell is wrong with me today? “And I think the real question is, what are you doing here? There’s at least a solid hour before you usually come out and catch the bus.” She said, pointing at her watch.
You furrowed your eyebrows, suddenly not knowing how time works. You pulled out your phone and your eyes almost fell out of their sockets when you confirmed that yes, your girlfriend was telling the truth. “Are you kidding me! I ran like hell to get here and I’m way too early!” You shouted and plopped down on the bench beside the taller girl.
Yuju coos when she sees you pout, “Aww, it’s okay, at least we get to spend more time together at the ass crack of dawn.” She said.
“Okay, but seriously, why are you here? Like, specifically right here at the bus stop?” You asked, ignoring your cheeks that were heating up. A month and a half and she still has this effect on you.
“I was actually on my way to your house to surprise you and all that but I got exhausted so I sat down here for a bit to rest. And then you came,” Yuju explained. Seeing the drained look on your face, she frowned. She then pulled you close, letting you rest your head on her shoulder while also holding her hand. Still gives me butterflies. “Did you even have breakfast?” Your girlfriend asks. She sighs when she feels you shake your head.
“Wanna walk to a bakery before the bus arrives?” Yuju smiles when you do, because nothing makes you feel better than eating bread at your favorite place with your favorite person.
“My treat this time, though.” You said as you stand up, pulling Yuju with you.
“Oh, you don’t have to.” Yuju said. The two of you started walking to your usual path to the nearest bakery shop. You’ve gone on countless dates in different places, but something about this particular bakery was special. The pastries were delicious of course and the short distance between it and your house was definitely a favor, but there was always something in the air whenever you and Yuju go there for a snack.
Ugh, I feel tingly thinking about it. But you loved it.
“Yes, I do,” You replied, momentarily stopping at your tracks. You have been thinking about it for a while. How you and Yuju got to where you are now, what it took for you and her to get here. But more specifically, this was about Yuju and how you are so genuinely thankful for her for being with you. “I realized that… you were the one that definitely got the worst end of this… whole thing between us. When we met, when we became friends, when we tried to sort things out about that thing, and pretty much every other stuff. I want to be good to you, like you’ve always been to me. And I know bread is nothing but I promise that there are greater things that I can do to make up for all the time you waited and dealt with me.” You confessed, running your thumb across the taller girl’s knuckles tenderly.
Is this enough? Probably not. I put her through a lot, and I will give her all the love she’s given me. Maybe more.
Definitely more.
Yuju doesn’t say anything. At first, she stares at you for a long time because how can she even respond to that? (She felt a lot of things inside. So much that she felt like she was going to explode if she tries to speak.) But then she cups your face with her hands and slowly, she pulls you in for a kiss.
It was quick, but it was enough to get the message across.
I love you more, Choi Yuna.
“Lean on me, right?” You whisper as she pulls back. She looked like she was about to cry, but she smiles at you and blinks the tears away. (You smile back at her, and Yuju feels like she was going to melt into a puddle the longer she stared.)
“That was sweet… but I was going to tell you that I have coupons we could use instead—”
“Oh, just let me be romantic!”

Su/gf crossover things part 2
(sorry if these aren't that good!)
------------------------
Dipper: So... that glowing pink thing?
Steven: Yeah?
Dipper: Why does that happen exactly?
Steven: Oh, I'm not sure... I guess when I don't feel well? It's like a burst of energy when it happens...when i feel like i need to run away or just...-
Dipper: Oh! Like a flight or fight response!
Steven: What is-
Dipper, taking out the journal: Interesting...
Steven: What's a-
Dipper: mumbles to himself
Steven: ...Nevermind.
------------------------
Steven: Hey Mabel! what are you-
Steven: Mabel.
Mabel, putting fake gems on waddles face: Whaaat... he likes it...
Steven: Why didn't you ask me to help you?
Mabel: :D
------------------------
Mabel: OH! YOU CAN DO SHAPESHIFTING, RIGHT?
Steven: Oh, yeah, but-
Mabel: Can you turn into anything!? Like a unicorn! Or a hamster! You can do this hamster ball thing, so!
Steven: uuhh haha... I don't really... like shapeshifting... sorry..
Mabel: Aw, why?
Steven: It's just... some things happened when I did...
Mabel: Like what?
Dipper: Mabel, don't bother him! If he doesn't like it then leave him alone.
Mabel: Yeahh... you're right. Sorry Steven!
Steven: Nono, it's okay, don't worry!
------------------------
this is something different than the "steven has the same powers as bill so dipper is sus" writing post i made lol (basically this one is just silly)
Dipper, walking around in circles: It's just... what does that star symbolize?
Mabel: What do you mean?
Dipper: The star on his shirt, Mabel! Does it have to do with this gem stuff? Is it related to his powers?
Mabel: Uh...Dipper, why are you questioning something like that?
Dipper: Well, he showed me a picture of himself when he was younger, and he always had this star on his shirt! Why?
Mabel: Maybe he just likes stars? Come on, bro. It's just some shirt design.
Dipper: I don't know...
later
Dipper: Steven... okay, so, this will sound weird but what does that star on your shirt mean?
Steven: Huh?
Dipper, pointing at it: You always have that star on your shirt. Does it have to do with your powers or something? Is it some magical shirt?
Steven: Oooh hahaha! No no, it's just my dads merchandise. Just like that pine tree on your hat, I'm guessing?
Dipper: ...Oh. Well then. rips a page from a notebook
Steven: ...Seriously?
Dipper: Yes, seriously.
------------------------
So what if something dangerous happens and steven completely turns pink also starts turns into his buff chad form (haha edgy)
Steven, in that form: Oh, oh no no no... oh no.. shit..
Dipper: Wha-
Mabel: What!?
Steven: Oh god, Mabel and Dipper, d-don't look at me!
Dipper: ...Does that new form... hurt you?
Steven: What? uh.. no.
Steven: I- I didn't want you guys to see me like this!
Dipper: No, no, it's uh, okay!
Mabel: Yeah, we're here! Don't worry!
Steven, slowly getting smaller do his normal form: It's just..
Steven, as his pink glow fades: This just hasn't happened in a while...
later
Mabel: Well, I made you some chocolate milk!
Steven: Thanks, Mabel.
Dipper: So... you better now? You're smaller than when you were well... all pink and glowy
Steven: Yeah, yeah i'm better now. I guess I need to tell this to my therapist though.
Mabel: You better! I don't want to see you hurt :(
------------------------
Steven: Hey do guys wanna fly
Dipper: Wh-
Mabel: YES!
Dipper: Um... what do you mean with "fly"?
Steven: I have floating powers. I can just carry you two and well.. fly around
Mabel: Oh my god!!! really!?
Steven: Yeah!
Dipper: How come you're just randomly suggesting this?
Steven: Well, strange things have been happening here in Gravity Falls, so I just wanted to lighten the mood up a little bit.
Dipper: Alright, then
Mabel: YEAHH!!! LETS FLOAT!
------------------------
Mabel, Dipper and Steven are basically floating now
Mabel: THIS IS AMAZING!!! You can float and summon a hamster ball! That's like, the best thing EVER!
Steven: hahah, yeah! ...Dipper you alright?
Dipper, absolutely worried that he's going to fall: y.. yes.
Steven: I can drop you off-
Dipper: AH- NO!
Steven: I mean like... slowly help you land on your feet again, yknow?
Dipper: Oh, uh, yes... please..
Steven: Alright!
------------------------
Mabel: Tickle attack!
Dipper: Mabel no- hahaha! Stop!
Steven, entering the room: Hey guys
Mabel, staring at him: >:)
Steven: o h n o
------------------------
Dipper: Is this your real form? You can shapeshift, after all.
Steven: Yes?
Dipper: HMM
Steven: How could I prove it to you anyways?
Dipper: I don't know-
Steven: Here, a picture of when I was younger. I can assure you that's me, and my 'real' form haha
Dipper: ...Wow you were small
Steven: You're one to talk
Dipper: Hey!
Steven: Haha!
Steven: Oh, by the way, you know that I don't like shapeshifting, right?
Dipper: Yeah... I guess you don't.
------------------------
Mabel: Uuughh I'm so bored
Dipper: Yeah, me too.
Steven: Do you guys wanna uh, bake something? maybe?
Mabel: Hmmm... like what
Steven: Oh! Have you heard of cookie cats?
Dipper: Cookie cats?
Steven: Here, let me show you a picture of them shows a picture of it from his phone
Mabel: It looks so cute!
Steven: We can bake this if you guys wanna?
Dipper: Well, we don't have anything else to do.
Mabel and Steven: Yeah!
------------------------
steven and dipper are just walking around the woods cause why not
Dipper: Ouch!
Steven: What happened? Are you okay?
Dipper: Yeah, it's just...I just scratched myself on this branch, i didn't even see it.
Steven: Oh, that's no problem! licks his finger
Dipper: uh-
Steven: puts his finger on Dippers wound there!
Dipper, healed: WH- HOW?
Steven: I have healing powers :)
Dipper: You surprise me everyday...
Dipper, whispering: Maybe I should tell Ford... hmm..
------------------------
again before they knew steven is half gem
Mabel: I love gems!
Steven: Me too! Even though some tried to kill me, most of them didn't really know what they were doing. Mostly when they were corrupted.
Mabel: H..huh?
------------------------
Mabel: Your girlfriend sure is cool Steven!
Steven: Yeah, I love her a lot.
Mabel:
Mabel: :")
Steven:
Steven: Uh-
Mabel: No, no. It's just cute. Don't mind me. I hope when I'm a teenager I can find love like this. Haha...
------------------------
Steven: You guys' grunkle is really nice!
Dipper: Yeah, at first he can be a bit mean, but in reality he's a great guy if he wants to be. Trust me, I've been there.
Steven: Aw... I said that cause he gave me something for free. That's a start, I guess?
Dipper: Sure is.
------------------------
Stan, going through a box of old stuff: Ahaha, yeah. Brings back some good old memories.
Steven: Oh, can I look? If you don't mind?
Stan: Sure kid.
Steven: ...
Steven: A... Space Train to the Cosmos CD?
Stan: Yeah, haha. He has the same last name as you. I remember listening to him years ago.
Steven: Mr. Pines... this is my dad. Greg Universe.
Stan: ... What.
------------------------
this is before D & M met Ford, I guess? (if this takes place when D & M arrive to GF for the first time)
Steven: So... what's that?
Dipper: Ah! It's uh- it's nothing. haha...
Steven: Dipper, are you okay? What are you holding there?
Dipper: sighs It's just...
Mabel: IT'S A JOURNAL!
Dipper: Mabel!
Steven: Oh, like a diary? That's cool.
Dipper: It's... more than that, actually.
Mabel: Come on! Let's just tell him!
Dippers: Well, uh, it's basically a journal that has a lot of information written down from all these weird monsters and creatures in Gravity Falls. I still have no idea who the author is.
Steven: Wow... Have you told Mr. Pines?
Dipper: He didn't take it seriously.
Steven: Hmm...
------------------------
Steven: I don't understand your purpose... nor do I understand why you look like that
Steven: But I support you
Soos: Dude it's just square pizza
------------------------
Connie visits again
Steven: Connie! Hey!
Connie: Steven!
they go for a hug, then fuse
Stevonnie: ...Uh-oh.
Mabel: :D WOOOO!!! HOW???
Dipper: >:0
Dipper: WHAT THE FUCK??
------------------------
Ford: This is so interesting... a half-gem, half-human.
Ford: Tell me, what can you do?
Steven: Well, I can summon a shield. I have healing powers. I can bring plants to life. I can bubble things up. I can also have destruct- oh, I uh, I actually don't like talking about that.
Ford: ...Can you show me your shield?
Steven: sure summons his shield
Ford: Wh- how do you do that?
Steven: Well, it's my gem that just summons it when I want to.
Ford: So how powerful is it?
Steven: Oh, pretty powerful, I guess? I was able to protect myself from the diamonds- oh uh, yeah, the uh diamonds are the most strongest gem, by the way. Yellow tried to step on me and tried to uh, hurt me haha but it's okay now.
Ford: Wow! So, how tall and strong are these diamonds? And uh, that's crazy she did that. But do tell me more.
Steven: They're really tall. I don't exactly know how much but as tall as a skyscraper... maybe taller? I'm not sure. The tallest one is White.
Ford: Interesting... I'm guessing you're a diamond too? You were able to protect yourself, after all.
Steven: starts glowing pink a little
Ford: Huh!?
Steven: Ah- sorry, sorry! That just happens sometimes!
Ford: Glowing pink... hm...
------------------------
Imagine they all (Stan, Soos, Steven, Dipper and Mabel) fall into that one bottomless pit. Steven completely panics because the others are falling and he's worried to the point where he just forgets about his floating powers. But after the others start telling some of their stories, he calms down. They turn around to him and ask him if he could tell a story aswell. He tells them about how cool it was to learn combat with his (now girl-)friend Connie. How at that point he learned something very important. The others listen very well to him, and as he finishes the story they, surprisingly, fall out of the bottomless pit. After this Mabel and Dipper ask Steven about the things he has learned and if he could teach them.
------------------------
Mabel and Dipper: wearing their peanut butter and jelly costumes
Steven: Hahaha! That looks nice, why are you dressed like that?
Mabel: Summerween!
Steven: Oh, I've never heard of that! :D
Dipper: Yeah cause they honestly just made all of this up.
------------------------
Steven hanging out with the other teens!!! Very important!!! He needs to learn how to "act his age", y'know what I mean? explore around. take some risks (that are not traumatising, thank you). just be a teenager in general.
(i could make a whole other post for this tbh)
------------------------
Stan: You have literally no legal documents, kid.
Steven: Yeahh...
Stan: I love it!
------------------------
Robbie: And who are you?
Steven: Oh I just, uh, work here.
Robbie: Yeah? With Wendy, huh?
Steven: Oh! Yeah, she's my workmate, I guess?
Robbie: Hm... right.
Robbie: walks past him while elbowing him in an aggressive way
Steven, whispering: Yikes... scary.
Dipper, from the back: I know right!?
------------------------
Mabel, goofing around, doing some weird stuff: hehehe
Steven: Wow... thinking about it, she'd get along with Amethyst.
------------------------
Mabel: gasp Oh my gosh! Steven, look at Waddles and Lion!
Lion and Waddles: literally just staring at eachother
Mabel and Steven, with star eyes: Awww....
------------------------
Wendy: Dude, your girlfriend seems really cool.
Steven: Oh, yeah! She's great. She's really smart and pretty, she can sing and play the violin... she can sword fight-
Wendy: Wait wait wait... sword fight?
Steven: Yeah!
Wendy: Your girlfriend rides a pink lion and can sword fight? That's so cool!
Steven, full of love: Ah, yeah... she's amazing...
------------------------
Hope y'all enjoyed this one. This is the second part! Even though none of these are in any order, so it doesn't matter. But here's the first one. Also, I just wanted to say something about the shapeshifting thing: I do enjoy posts where Steven shapeshifts to make his arm or whatever longer to help. It's really cute, but in my opinion (again, my opinion) I feel like after steven turning into a cat and kaiju monster, he'd be way too uncomfortable to shapeshift. It'd also remind him of when he became taller, buff and was glowing pink. That's just what I think. :-)

''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
aki put my camera up really high and now i have to turn it on and off with a broom handle. let’s talk about optimism in the bad times.
[Takao looks directly up at the camera, the camera being at a very very high angle. Takao is a fit, tallish person with lightly tanned skin, curly brown hair, and shiny yellow eyes. He has two sets of horns, one set that holds closely to his skull and goes up at the very end, and another set that does straight out, again going up at the very end. She is wearing a simple black choker, an oversized white t-shirt that says “Of Course I Cum Fast; I Have Fish To Catch!” With an outline of a bass jumping out of a body of water on it, and black biker shorts, as well as black slides. He is holding a broom in his right hand.]
Takao: Ah, alright. I think it’s on now.
Takao: so! I was supposed to be posting a video that had my buddy Aki in it, but apparently someone was “being a nuisance” and someone else would “rather look at me than a camera lens” or whatever.
Takao: he was just being pissy and he put my camera up really high. And hey, that was cool when we were hanging out, sure. We made lunch together and ate it. It was a fun time all around. Problems arise when he leaves my place, and “forgets” to give me my camera back. I have to turn it on and off with this. [Takao swings the broom around a bit]
Takao: So if this video goes out, it means I’ve either grown a few inches, or I’ve invested in a step ladder. Both of these events are equally possible.
Takao: And if this video doesn’t go out, then you know what happened. Except that you don’t know, because this video obviously won’t be out. You guys are smart. Out of all my friends, I’m sure you could guess which one would fuck up my recordings.
Takao: anywho! Since I'm here, forced to keep my chin up, let’s talk about optimism in the bad times.
[Takao drags a settee into frame with a great amount of struggle. Cut to him carrying a small end table over and putting it next to the settee. Cut to him placing a plate of sliced apples on the table, as well as a glass of (sparkling?) water]
Takao: [lounging across the settee] it was Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz who believed that we live in the best of all possible worlds. He based most of his ideas off of the assumed existence of capital ‘g’ God, so that isn’t exactly the most popular idea about optimism that’s currently going around, but it’s what I'm gonna use for today’s video.
Takao: If we live in the best of all possible worlds, how can one explain the mass suffering that we face? One could possibly say that without knowing suffering we wouldn’t know joy, I personally agree with that, but one could also say that suffering is a consequence of the joy that we have. If there is no joy without suffering, then there is no suffering without joy.
Takao: I’ve personally gone through suffering, in many parts of my life, but I’ve also experienced joy. And given the ability to start it all over again, i think i would still suffer unnecessarily in order to be joyful unnecessarily.
Takao: But optimism in the bad times is different. It’s going through suffering and somehow finding something to appreciate, it’s, cutting your finger with a knife, but being alright with it because you can wear your buddy’s merch now. [Takao holds up his hand, and on it is a bandage. It’s a bit blurry, but it looks similar to merchandise that is currently out for pro hero Smokestack]
Takao: it’s not finding joy in suffering, that’s masochism, it’s joy in spite of suffering.
Takao: But I'm sure all of us know how hard it can be to find joy while suffering, so we kinda can skip over that part sometimes. I didn’t find joy in the fact that I could see my reflection in the knife that cut me, but I did find joy in the healing aspect. My suffering was mostly over by the time I got the bandage, but I still put it on because I needed something good to come out of the experience. I was working on healing myself, and that’s where I found joy. [Takao takes one of the apple slices and eats it. She lifts the glass of water, but pauses before he drinks it]
Takao: and hey, I wouldn’t have had the same joy if this bandage wasn’t my buddy’s merch. Maybe I wouldn’t have even put it on! Maybe there’s a timeline where I never met Jetsam, but I still got the same cut, and it got infected and I lost my finger. [Takao takes a sip of the water, and puts it back down] Obviously this is an exaggerated example, but you get my point. There’s a timeline where I didn’t make the friends I have today, and I suffered more because of it.
Takao: It’s hard being your own therapist. [Jiji, an old black cat, walks into frame] That’s why your therapist exists. Humans are social creatures, and will always suffer from loneliness. [Jiji paces in front of the settee till Takao picks him up and puts him on her lap] no matter how uncomfortable it can make us, we need other people. Other people may not be able to stop our suffering, but they can help us get through it, and help us heal afterwards.
Takao: [looking into the lens of the camera] I originally made this channel when I was… you know I was kinda messed up
Takao: Real sick in the head.
Takao: But you know what?
Takao: Van Gogh painted the Starry Night while in drug rehab
Takao: So maybe I’m onto something here
Takao: Maybe good things don’t come from bad things,
Takao: …
Takao; Maybe good things come from healing after bad things.
[The frame fades to black]
[A quick cut back to Takao as he holds the broom, trying and failing to reach the camera without standing up from his settee]
[A quick and startling cut to Takao’s feet as she quickly walks to another room]
[Takao is now wearing different shoes, black boots, and is closing her front door. The dull click of her boots is heard softly]
[Cut to more walking, this time down a sidewalk. The click of his boots more pronounced now]
[Takao’s feet sway side to side as he sits on a subway]
[Takao records a woman in a tight pink dress. The woman is attractive, tall and blonde, but the camera is focused on her bag, large and a matching shade of pink. Out of the bag pops out a tan chihuahua with a pink spiked collar. The subway speaker talks indistinctly]
[More walking down a sidewalk, but at a quickened pace]
[Takao points the camera at a mirror in an elevator, his head is not shown, posing cutely with her leg up and a peace sign]
[More walking down a hallway as Takao finds a door]
[Takao flips through a strangely large ring of keys. Once he finds one with ‘BC’ crudely carved into it, she sticks it into the lock and turns it]
[He opens the door and walks into a living room. A man sitting on a couch looks up. This man is Aki Hiroharu. Hiroharu seems to be watching the news while eating something out of a bowl. Hiroharu looks shocked to see Takao, and may be about to speak, but immediately stops as he goes to cover his face with his arm]
[The camera shakes as Takao throws a step ladder at Hiroharu]
Takao: BITCH ASS-
[There’s a short few shots of the two fighting, clearly playfully, but neither seem willing to lose]
[Someone puts the camera down gently, walking back to the couch and resting their legs onto the open stepladder. The person is a fusion of Haruhiro and Takao, commonly known as Akito by fans. Akito continues to eat as they watch the news.]

No sane person would continue bullying their victim from back in school but again, Junpei had never been lucky in his life.
Those guys were now battering him without the need to hold back. Since they were all out of school, they didn’t need to be held accountable for anything they did to him. Nobody was going to scold them or call their parents. None of them were children anymore.
Junpei wasn’t weak. He knew he wasn’t but against those guys, he could never win if he tried standing up for himself. Bigger fish ate the smaller fish, it was that easy.
“What happened to you?” his boss asked when he noticed the new bruises on his neck and face.
Unconsciously, Junpei’s hand went to his face. “Oh, it’s nothing, sir.” He calmly brushed it off as nothing but it made him feel at ease somehow that someone took notice of his well-being.
Junpei was used to being invisible and someone caring about his battered face meant him the world even if it was a small bit of worry his boss showed.
“You’ll scare the customers looking like that,” his boss said, clicking his tongue. “Go to the back, someone else will take the cash register.”
Junpei nodded languidly. He had gotten the picture.
Here it was evident that Junpei wasn’t treated like a person by anyone. We’ve all been there, feeling invisible and unwanted but I wanted to lay the base at the start with his battered face being a problem for his boss. His boss didn’t care because why would he? It’s not like Junpei is someone he treasures deeply, he’s just an employee, nothing else.
~~~
“Get up.”
His calm voice loudly echoed in the empty alley. Junpei planted his aching and shaking arms on the concrete floor to push himself up. He wobbled as he got back up on his feet.
They were all laughing, the same guy who had told him to get up gathered all his might and punched Junpei in the face, knocking him off of his feet yet again, Junpei’s lanky body crashed on the concrete.
“He bounces off the ground like a ball!” someone laughed, “It’s so funny, I’ve never thought a human could do that.”
“It’s from the impact,” another one pointed out. “Didn’t you learn about that in school?”
“Argh, man don’t remind me of physics!” he whined. “I’ve seen videos of people jumping from the buildings and they bounce like that when they hit the ground, it’s so crazy dude!! They don’t even start bleeding until like ten seconds later!!”
Junpei groaned in pain but tried to stifle his voice. The tension would fade away soon enough and they would forget about him if they kept going on about their stupid argument. His hand went to his face, it was wet. Slowly, he lifted his hand up to look at the blood dripping from his hand. With a sharp gasp he turned over on the concrete he was laying.
He laid on his back, watching the sky.
This could have been ranked in the top five on one of the worst days of his life, it could take second place, the first one being the day his mother had died.
His vision blurred with tears, he couldn’t move a single muscle anymore.
“Woah, he’s crying!”
“Just like a damn kid, isn’t that pathetic?”
“Wait wait wait, I’ll give him something better to cry about.” Their leader who had been using him as a punching bag walked over to Junpei, he pushed down his tracksuit pants and pissed on Junpei.
They all started laughing louder as Junpei tried squirming but couldn’t even move a finger. He then relented, watching the sky and his assaulter standing on top of him while his clothes were getting soaked in urine. He had worked overtime today but he felt almost too sore. He could feel a weird rush on his body, ah, nevermind, that was probably from this guy pissing on him.
Once the guy was done, he pulled up his pants and they all left.
Junpei didn’t move or rather didn’t bother to move as his nostrils were getting invaded with the ugly stench. It was hitting up to his nose bridge, he tried ignoring it but it was too strong.
By the time he found enough strength to move, he decided to walk back to his place using the dark alleys and the empty streets. The cold night breeze felt like a blizzard thanks to him being soaked in piss, the next day he was definitely going to get sick.
A tremendous wave of rage washed over him. He started to wonder where everything went wrong. Why was he still being humiliated like this?  Was it because he was weak and unable to fight back?
Unless Junpei did something to stop them, he would have to continue to live his life in misery. Then Junpei realized the anger he felt towards them wasn’t going to fade away if he only stopped them. He wanted to hurt them like they hurt him for all those years. They had to pay for what they had done.
They had to suffer like he did.
Although he was only angry and wanted them to suffer, Junpei was only tired of being weak. Having been bullied his whole life was paving the way for him to go insane slowly.
~~~
If there was a button that would kill everyone he hated, he wouldn't press it. However, if there was a button that would kill everyone who hated him, he would press it without hesitation.
Canon, right?
Nevertheless, if there existed a button that would make everyone who hurt him and their loved ones suffer, he would choose to press that button.
Hatred and grudge are terrible emotions. It can capture you and swallow you whole. Sometimes, when you get angry you may have had thoughts about wanting a certain person to suffer but there’s a line you don’t cross.
When you wish for the person you hate the most to die, you don’t wish death on their loved ones because they had nothing to do with them. However-
Death would be too forgiving after all they had done but letting them suffer every single day until their last breath sounded like the perfect option.
Making them suffer until they can’t take it anymore would be the perfect punishment.
Junpei was drowning in hatred, I wanted to make sure to give him this perspective of wanting his bullies to suffer with their loved ones so he could get revenge but the thing is… Junpei was never strong enough (mentally) to do things that could make someone innocent suffer.
~~~
Junpei hadn’t thought he would spend his day off stalking the leader of his bullies who had pissed on him that night but here he was.
That guy was more of a loser than Junpei ever could be. He spent his day walking around and smoking when he wasn’t playing pachinko or disturbing the peace in the streets.
Although it was boring to follow the guy around, Junpei needed at least some information about this guy to hurt him. Junpei could never outpower him and torture him like in his fantasies but if he could blackmail him in some way it would be more than enough. He only needed something to use it against him.
After the fifth hour, he lost hope. The guy was useless, he didn’t have a purpose in his life or something he could use against him. As he was getting ready to call it a day, something happened.
The guy stopped in front of a convenience store, talking to a girl who was sweeping the front of the shop. She said something and they laughed. They walked into the store, Junpei watched through the large store window as he made his way to the cash register and continued talking to the girl until she walked around the counter. The girl didn’t look like she was uncomfortable talking to him.
They continued chatting for a while before the girl crouched down behind the counter. When she was back in Junpei’s view, she was holding a large package. The guy looked annoyed but took the package from her, they exchanged some sort of farewell before he walked out of the store.
Junpei pulled his baseball cap further down and followed the guy to an apartment building. He kept his distance and watched him use a key to get into the building, after a long time of waiting, Junpei made his way towards the building’s entrance but didn’t go inside.
Instead, he checked the name tags next to each doorbell. Then he noticed a familiar last name next to a girl's name.
Bingo.
Here, although he found the reader’s place and was stalking them, he wasn’t planning on doing anything. Actually, there was going to be a segment of him debating on whether or not to send the reader anonymous death threats about his brother and everything but it felt out of place. Junpei is still sane, after all.
~~~
They caught him after work the next day.
“Hold him.”
While the two guys held Junpei against the wall, their leader inhaled from his cigarette with a sinister smile as his hand reached for Junpei’s face and cupped his cheek.
Junpei struggled but the other two guys were using their both hands to hold him in place.
The leader’s hand moved up his cheek and carded the long fringe covering Junpei’s forehead back. He took another drag of his cigarette, exhaling it in the vulnerable one’s face before pressing the still-lit cigarette between two other barely healed burns.
When Junpei opened his mouth to scream, the guy shoved the cigarette in his mouth. He forcefully closed his jaw shut and snickered two words, demanding. “Eat it.”
Having no other choice, Junpei chewed. The tobacco which wasn’t made for consumption through the mouth was bitter than anything these guys made him eat before, he wanted to gag as the small leaves covered the inside of his mouth, making it impossible to chew any more as they absorbed his saliva, leaving him with a dry mouth.
He was being humiliated, I don’t know if you know how it feels to be degraded to the point of you losing your pride, being afraid to talk to others, expressing emotions or even lifting your head to look at someone because you feel inferior to them but that was how Junpei felt… at least until now.
They laughed at the same time he was struggling to breathe.
In the end, Junpei so desperately wanted to be the last one to laugh.
First crack. First step to his insanity.
~~~
Junpei spent two weeks preparing everything. He learned your working schedule, which route you took home, and just how much your brother treasured you. From his observations, he could confidently say that you were the only thing a guy like him cared about.
You were perfect.
Junpei is no villain mastermind, just an ordinary guy. He didn’t have a plan on what he was going to do or how he was going to do it. He was acting without thinking or rather letting his anger and hatred for his bullies control him.
~~~
I wrote this segment to change the perspective, give the reader a normal impression. To show that she’s passive aggressive but she’s still just a normal person who had a late night job and a brother who treasured her.
Tonight was going to be the last late-night shift ever for you. Not because you hated it but because your brother insisted you stopped working at night since he believed it was dangerous for any girl your age.
Unlike any other nights, you had told him you would walk home yourself, although he refused at first, when you lied to him about promising to take a taxi home, he relented.
First sprinkles of how caring the brother is. He cares and treasures the reader. Because she’s family.
It had been quite a calm night, even during the rush hour after the bars closed, it was quiet.
Although you weren’t supposed to close the store any earlier than the time that was written on the entry door, you clearly weren’t going to have anyone coming here after this hour. So, you decided to wipe the floors and close the cash register. As the machine was printing out the entire day’s worth of receipt, you flipped the ‘open’ sign on the door to ‘closed’.
Once the store was clean and ready to close, you went to the dressing room to take off your work shirt. It wasn’t your turn to wash any of the shirts this week which meant that you could throw the shirt into the laundry basket that was already filled up with dirty shirts without hesitation. Your coworker was definitely going to be angry but you couldn’t care less, they often left the toilet clogged and never changed the coffee filter when they used the coffee machine in the break room. It was simply your way of getting back at them.
Also, here, even though it may not have meant a lot to you, this part is important. The reader is shown to be passive aggressive in contrast to her brother. She’s not the type to get violent, she is not some sort of angel either. Just a regular person who gets upset over small things.
After counting up all the money and leaving the receipts in the small safe, you turned off the lights to exit from the back with the trash. You took out the keys from the front pocket of your pants and locked the back door.
Goosebumps prickled your skin, the cold of the night was too harsh. Strolling out of the warmth of the store into the crisp night air was like being suddenly flung into a blizzard. You shivered, throwing the trash into the large dumpster and wrapping your arms around yourself.
Your teeth were chattering when you bit your tongue out of a sudden because of something moving behind the dumpsters. Whipping your head around abruptly, you tried to see if what you saw from the corner of your eye was just your imagination.
Never the one to have quick reflexes or ever had been in a fight or flight situation, you stood there, staring at a lanky guy who was holding a handkerchief in his hand.
Where did he come from? Was he hiding behind the dumpster?
As if you still weren’t sure if what you were seeing was real or not, you blinked, completely frozen in place.
None of you moved.
“H-hello? C-can I help you?” Maybe he was one of the drunkards but you knew that wasn’t true. He was standing still, not even wavering.
It was quiet.
Seconds passed before you finally came back to your senses. You could simply walk away from him. Internally slapping yourself in the face, you took a step back to turn around.
Then he took a step, it made your breath hitch but you had made your mind. Turning around on your heels, you walked. He moved too. Your pulse went haywire in terror and before you could start running, you felt a cloth being pressed over your mouth, making you lose consciousness almost immediately.
~~~
The first thing you noticed was the smell of mold, dust, and wet concrete.
You felt shivers run down your spine. Your stomach churned and you froze as you recalled everything that had happened. Jolting up from the mold-covered mattress, you noticed two more things as soon as you started moving your body. There was a single metal anklet chaining you to a pillar and your hands were tied behind you.
When you opened your mouth to scream, you noticed another thing. Your mouth was taped.
Starting to hyperventilate, you found yourself crying in fear. Muffled sounds of your sobbing echoed in the dark until a loud creaking noise made you quiet down. You held your breath to listen carefully.
Click.
It was a door.
Someone was here with you.
It had to be your kidnapper.
Footsteps.
He was getting closer.
Okay, take a deep breath. Your brother had taught you how to fight, you had to go for a punch on the throat, kick him between the legs, and shove the inside of your palm up to his chin with everything you got. Well… although you had to be untied in those scenarios, you knew how to fight.
The thing is, although she knows how to fight, she’s not strong. Not mentally nor physically. I wanted to point that out with this line. Because after this line, you came to realize that the reader is in fact, powerless and pathetic. She can’t fight or anything. These are the type of thoughts you have in your mind when you feel invincible, before you get to face the bitter truth of how insignificant you could be against someone who had the upper hand on you.
What else, what else?
You moved your leg and the chain made a clanking sound.
The chain, it was long enough to-
“Brought you food, I can’t stay here today but I’ll be back tomorrow night.”
He’s gonna go to work. Literally. This is just another reflection of Junpei’s life, he’s just a normal dude with a job he needs to go to earn money to pay the rent.
You watched the guy put down a tray of food on the bed. They were all in bowls. Rice and water. By the time you looked up to him, you saw that he was wearing a facemask and gloves. He noticed your stare and kneeled on the mattress.
He’s hiding himself, that’s because he still doesn’t know what he’s going to do to her. He’s still conflicted if he should just let her go. The face mask is there so she won’t recognize him once he lets her go. He doesn't want her to think of him as a monster either, hiding his face because he’s ashamed of having her here.
Suddenly, you started squirming, not wanting him to come close to you. Yet it was futile, he pressed you down by your shoulder.
“I’ll peel the tape off,” he announced and scratched the corner of the tape until he managed to lift enough of it to be able to grab. Then he peeled it off abruptly, making you scream in pain. “Ah, I’m going to be late…” He got up from the mattress while checking his phone. “Like I said, I’ll be back tomorrow-”
“Who are you?! Why are you doing this?! Where am I?!” you screamed, your voice broke thrice as if you were too dehydrated. How long had you been here?
He didn’t answer and walked out from the way he came, you heard him shut the door.
I’m bad at writing but yeah, he can’t handle being face to face with the consequences of what he’s doing to her or getting yelled at. He literally hadn’t thought she’d be fighting back.
Someone could hear you now that your mouth was free. So you started screaming and finally got up to your feet. You were discalced and the wet concrete was incredibly uncomfortable to walk on, the small pebbles of things you couldn’t see prickled under your feet.
Hours passed, or it felt like hours passed but your throat was sore from screaming nonstop. The chain wasn’t that long, you couldn’t reach anywhere as you only could go around in circles.
Since you were exhausted, you relented and walked back to the mattress to sit on a spot where it didn’t have any mold.
Your stare landed on the tray of food the guy left earlier. You were starving but how were you supposed to eat when your hands were tied behind your back? You could have tried moving them front by sliding them down your back while crouching and then stepping back but the metal chain around your ankle was preventing you from doing exactly that.
Moving closer to the tray of food, you wondered why everything was in a bowl yet again.
The realization hit you at once when you saw the bone design on the bowls. He was messing with you, he expected you to eat like a damn dog. That made you lose it altogether. You kicked the tray as far as you could and continued screaming.
~~~
You had never realized how slow time moved until now. Hours were like years. You couldn’t move because your stomach was sizzling with acid, trying to basically digest itself and making you regret kicking the tray.
No matter how much you tried, you couldn’t reach the food, the chain was too short.
Was this how you were going to die?
Ugh, what are you stupid? People won’t die from starvation or thirst this early and you would be fine… he said he was coming back.
Tomorrow night?
Was it morning when he said that?
You didn’t know the answer.
Your head started spinning again.
~~~
Something was poking your cheek.
“Hey.”
You jerked awake, startling the guy.
It was quiet as he waited for you to sit up. You didn’t have the strength to yell or scream at him anymore.
“You should eat this time, I don’t know when I’ll be back.” He put the tray down on the mattress but he didn’t leave like the last time. He stood there, waiting.
You leaned forward towards the tray, it was the same food from before and they were in the same bowls. Your eyes scanned around the large place, the bowls you had kicked weren’t anywhere to be seen, so they had to be the same bowls.
Your gaze landed on the guy, he was still wearing a face mask and gloves. There were a chair and a large bag next to the pillar far away from the one you were chained to, completely out of your reach.
“Come on, eat now, I’ll put it away or the mice will gather on this floor again.”
“I can’t eat like this,” you replied, shrugging your shoulders. “Untie me.”
“That’s why they’re in a bowl, use your mouth.” Was his answer.
His speaking becomes more direct, order like. It’s because he starts to realize the power dynamics they have more. He finally has a sort of plan in his mind.
“I’m not going to humiliate myself like that.” For someone in captivity, you sure were asking for first-class treatment.
“If you wanna leave here you might wanna do the things I say when I say them,” he said, walking over to the chair to sit down. “It’ll speed up the process.”
“Why am I here?” you demanded, sounding a little too annoyed. “What process?”
He crossed his arms over his chest, watching you in silence.
“I have a brother,” you hissed through your teeth, “He’ll know I’m missing and once he finds you, he’ll make you regret everything-”
“He’s the reason why you’re here.” His tone was blank, devoid of anything.
“Huh?”
“Eat now, we have things to do.”
After careful thinking, I wanted to change the way he was speaking to her in a way to hint that he was now determined.
“People will notice my absence!” You raised your voice, “I have friends and a job, they will all notice.”
“They won’t.” He didn’t explain further but you weren’t dumb. He was wearing a face mask and gloves, the food was just rice and water.
These were just precautions; he is scared of the consequences, he is scared shitless of what will happen once he lets her go. He doesn’t want her to recognize him or leave fingerprints.
“Y-you planned this…”
He didn’t. Not everything. These are just him acting on impulse.
“You should eat, we have things to do.”
There were a thousand different thoughts going through your mind in a millisecond. “I’m not gonna eat,” you grumbled, “Let me go.”
You heard him sigh before he stood up to walk over to the mattress. He grabbed the tray and walked away with it, putting it on the chair.
“I guess it’s better if we start now and then you can eat.” He crouched next to the large back, unzipping it. You saw him take some stuff out but couldn’t make out what they were. “What kind of a guy is your brother?”
This question is important. It wasn’t just a question, it’s a way of knowing if the reader was aware of her brother’s actions. Family is family after all. But Junpei was going to judge the reader depending on her answer.
The question was weird. You couldn’t place your finger on it but it felt like a trap. As if he was testing you.
“I asked a question.”
Your shoulders tensed when he raised his voice.
“He’s protective and kind,” you blurted out.
The duality. Two faced. Junpei realizes that people only care about certain people and don't care about the people they hurt because they have nothing to do with them.
It’s hard to accept at times that people you meet are not like how they act in front of you to their loved ones. Someone can be mean to you but could be the sweetest person to their lover. Someone could be the kindest to you but could be the person who drove another person into madness.
That made him scoff, he shook his head before getting back up and turned around. Immediately upon him walking closer to the mattress, you noticed that he was holding a box cutter.
It made a repetitive clicking sound as he pushed the blade out.
Fear came rushing back as you remembered once again that you were kidnapped by a stranger who clearly had planned this out.
“I’m- I’m sorry, please, wait!” You started squirming, hurrying to get up from the bed so you could at least dodge but he already had one hand grabbing your shoulder.
You were going to die, it was that easy. He was wearing gloves and hadn’t even touched you directly in any way, you were going to get brutally murdered and he wasn’t going to leave any evidence behind. You were- You were-
“Don’t move,” he warned, holding the box cutter where you could see it. You nodded rapidly in response, tears already blurring your vision.
You felt your shirt being stretched and before you knew it, being cut.
“W-what-”
“Your clothing is in the way.”
He tore the rest of the fabric left from your shirt and moved to your pants.
You watched in panic as he hooked a finger under the front of your pants and started cutting. The blade was too sharp, slicing the fabric of your pants smoothly and quickly. You weren’t dumb enough to struggle right now when the blade was so near your flesh, he was being careful to not cut you and you didn’t want to mess up his concentration.
By the time he managed to completely cut your pants and leave you only in your underwear, you caught a glimpse of his red ear and neck.
The ‘I’m dangerous’ facade is there but he’s blushing because he saw the reader without her clothes, isn’t that ironic. He’s not some psychopath, he’s just a guy who is sick of being bullied and wants to take matters into his own hands.
He flipped you over to grab the remains of your shirt and pants, after grabbing them he walked back to the large bag. The rustling sound filled your ears but you were too busy drowning in your tears. That had scared you and slapped you back to reality. You were helpless in this situation, no matter what you said or did, this guy could do whatever he wanted to you.
As long as you did everything he said, you would be unharmed, right? Wasn’t that what he said before? He also told you to not move so he wouldn’t cut you. Maybe this was just a prank.
Yeah, that had to be it.
Your brother could be a jokester sometimes, he had probably paid someone to prank you. Yes, that was it.
“Why are you laughing?” he asked.
Ahh, you hadn’t realized that you were laughing. Your laughter quieted down but you didn’t answer him because you didn’t know why either.
The reader is losing her composure, her passive aggressive self is slowly going to disappear so she can try to fight. The feeling of helplessness starts to mess with her.
His footsteps echoed in the warehouse, you heard them come closer before you felt the mattress sink. Instead of turning around, you listened to what he could be doing.
Rustling, plastic wrap opening, and paper being ripped. There was a momentary pause before you heard the familiar click sound of a lighter.
He inhaled and as soon as he did, he started coughing.
He was smoking… or trying to.
“How do people even smoke these?” he asked himself.
The fact that he was forcing himself to smoke, shows that he had become dedicated to his unknown plan of getting back to his bully.
Only while he was taking another whiff you realized he probably had pulled down or taken off his mask. You needed to see his face if you wanted to identify him once you got out and-
“Don’t move,” he warned. “When you struggle, it hurts more. Trust me, I know from experience.”
Still being considerate, he’s still unwilling. This isn’t a guy who enjoys torturing some girl for no reason, he feels obliged to do this.
You didn’t get to ask him what he was talking about as a sharp pain on your back made you scream in surprise. Your body twisted and moved away from whatever that was but a hand pressed you down onto the mattress by your head, keeping you in place. He used his knee to press you down by your back to make sure you couldn’t move at all.
“It’s not lit,” he mumbled and after his remark, you heard the lighter again. He inhaled, coughed, and then you felt the sharp pain on your shoulder this time. The pain was more vivid, you heard the sizzling coming from the cigarette and your skin felt like it was burning as the cigarette’s lit tip extinguished on your skin.
“Stop! Please! It hurts!”
He pulled it back but soon again you heard the lighter before he took another whiff of the cigarette, coughed, and pressed it on your skin.
“Why are you doing this? Please stop!”
“Your brother does this to me almost every single day,” he said, holding you in place and twisting the cigarette’s lit end on your skin. “Did you know?”
He starts to get more gutsy, he is sure he’s going to enjoy hurting her once he gets the hang of it. He knows this because the brother and the bullies enjoyed it.
Petrified, you couldn’t say anything. You couldn’t understand what was happening. Your entire body stilled as you heard the lighter again.
“Please,” you choked out, voice breaking. “I didn’t know. This has nothing to do with me! I didn’t do anything.” You were becoming desperate as his hand moved away from your hair to start stubbing out cigarettes on the other shoulder.
“I didn’t do anything either,” he said. “But he never stopped, no matter how much I begged.”
“I’m not my brother, please, I’m innocent.”
“So was I.”
Junpei now has decided something, you’ll see it in the next scenes. He wants to do everything they did to him to her. Nothing more and nothing less.
Another burn and then another and then another-
Your tears had dried by the time he was done.
“Here’s the food, you should eat now before you pass out.”
You couldn’t roll on your back, the skin on your back was burning up and you were sure it was bleeding.
He must have noticed because he picked the tray up and put it right in front of you. This time, you didn’t say anything and stuck your face into the bowl, ëating the rice without taking a breath. As you were gulping down the water, you noticed that you needed to pee.
Seeing that you were done, he took the tray away from you.
“I…”
“Hmm?” He paused to listen to what you wanted to say.
“I need to go to the bathroom.”
“If it’s pee, you can do it here.” He was being serious. “There’s no bathroom here and I forgot to bring a bucket.”
You see? He didn’t have a plan. He didn’t even know how long he would keep her here. He is just so stupid and reckless.
Your lips pressed together but it didn’t stop you from sobbing. “Why are you doing this? I didn’t do anything to you.”
“You should blame your brother for this.”
He doesn’t know. He just feels obliged to. This feels like the right thing to do to get revenge.
You knew your brother could be a douche at times but you had never thought he would hurt someone like this. He was… so caring and loving towards you. He was always so careful and protected you from any danger.
“Why isn’t he here instead of me then?” If he hurt this guy to the point of him turning into a monster, he deserved to be here, not you.
“I want him to suffer,” he said.
He was planning to get to your brother by hurting you, it was that simple but he didn’t know your brother like you did. If your brother found out about what he did to you, he would actually kill him. The last guy who broke your heart by cheating on you had gotten three broken bones, there was no way this guy would survive his wrath.
Oh…
You started to connect the dots.
Your brother had anger issues, he took them out from anyone he could overpower. He was caring and protective of you because he was scared someone would treat you the way he treated others.
He had failed miserably.
Everything he did lead up to your torment.
Learning this wouldn’t anger him. Learning this would make him suffer. It could push him into a bottomless hole where he will only blame himself for everything until he would kill himself.
This guy didn’t seem like he was enjoying this, whatever he was doing to you hurt him more than it hurt you and it was your brother who did this to him.
He wanted your brother to suffer by breaking the thing he treasured the most.
This is the part the reader notices the pattern, the bitter truth she had been ignoring for so long. She feels pity for Junpei because this is really her brother’s fault. She’s here because of him.
“If… I’ll go and check the place again,” he announced. “I didn’t really check if there were any bathrooms.”
You nodded languidly and continued lying down on your stomach.
He came back a while later and grabbed something from his bag anteriorly returning to your side. “There’s a bathroom but the water pipes in there must be damaged, the flush didn’t work and the water coming from the faucet was black. I have wet wipes with me though.”
Metal clinking on metal echoed, no it was a familiar sound of keys rattling. You lifted your head up from the mattress and you couldn’t believe your eyes. He was dangling a key in front of you. He was holding wet wipes and something else in his other hand.
“I will untie you but you have to behave if you don’t wanna be hurt.” He put the key back in his pants’ front pocket and leaned forward to put on a collar around your neck. “Okay?”
“What is that?” you asked, planting your knees on the mattress and using your legs to sit up.
“A shock collar, its voltage is high enough to pin you down.” His explanation was quick as he was unlocking the metal anklet. “Please don’t make me use it.”
He helped you get up but your eyes were on the small device he was holding. It definitely belonged to the collar, it was a remote control. If you could take it away from him, you would be able to run away.
“Let’s go,” he said, holding you by your arm.
Okay, you needed to find a way to distract him. He needed to drop his guard enough for you to grab the device from him.
He led you out of the large opening and down some stairs before making a sharp right turn. You were panicking because all of the windows were blocked by wooden planks and you couldn’t tell where the exit was.
“It’s here.”
You walked inside a filthy bathroom, the tile floor that was supposed to be white was a disgusting brown and the stalls were covered in graffiti. You were discalced, there was no way you were going to walk inside without something between the filthy floor and your feet.
“Can I borrow your shoes?”
“No.” He dragged you inside and led you straight to a stall without a door. “Be quick.”
You stood in front of the dirty toilet, the ceramic was smeared with brown streaks and you could only hope it was mud.
Turning back to him, you trembled in panic. “A bucket… or outside would be better. Please, it’s so filthy here-”
“I have to leave soon, you either pee now or wet the bed later.” He wasn’t looking at you, averting his gaze to anywhere but you. “You don’t have another choice.”
He is actually way too merciful, he can’t look at her because he knows he will give in to her and take her outside. He’s not some emotionless bastard, that’s why he’s looking away.
You looked down and remembered that you were only in your underwear, the torture from earlier had made you forget about everything.
Ugh, you pressed your thighs together. You needed to relieve yourself, urgently. Yet another problem came up. “How am I going to do it when I’m tied up? I can’t pull my underwear down.”
His ears and neck turned red immediately, when he spoke, he was stuttering. “I-I’ll pull it down for you.”
Okay now, you get to see how awkward he feels. He didn’t think it would come to this when he decided to take her to the bathroom.
There was this urge to scream bubbling in your throat but you had to bite it as you watched him put the device in his pocket and crouched in front of you.
You stopped breathing when his gloved hands reached for your sides, hooking his fingers under the waistband of your panties before staggeringly pulling them down. He was breathing heavily, shoulders moving with each breath he took.
“H-here.”
He stood up, hands pulling down his shirt to cover a small problem you didn’t need to know about.
Look, the reader is the first girl he’s ever been near to. She’s basically the first girl he’s seeing ‘naked’. No matter the circumstances, it’s erotic but still he won’t touch her because she’s not here for this and he’s a good person. He made himself believe that he’s a good person and what he’s doing here just needs to be done.
“Are you going to wait here?” The least he could do was to give you privacy. “I can’t do it when you’re staring, it’s embarrassing.”
As if he only noticed you were still tied up and wouldn’t be able to run away when you’re this vulnerable, he nodded rapidly before taking a step back. “I’ll wait outside, let me know when you’re done so I can-” His eyes were on your halfway down panties, he stopped himself from talking and grabbed the wet wipes from the sink he had placed them on. “Just… be quick.”
They’re just two awkward adults. They both get to experience something in this scene. They’re just normal people here in this bathroom. Junpei cannot put on his tough guy facade here because she’s as vulnerable as he is.
Once he left, you took a deep breath, holding back your tears no matter how humiliating this situation was.
Okay, okay, okay.
This is fine.
You stared at the toilet and gagged dryly. There was no way you were going to sit on that…
Wait, you had heard that there were people who could pee standing up, maybe you could too.
Ugh, you would do anything to avoid sitting on this filthy thing anyway.
Taking a hesitant step back and lowering yourself reluctantly on the toilet, you stopped midway to try and see if you could do it.
The result?
It was as expected.
You pissed yourself, not even a drop landing inside the toilet.
A sob left your lips and the shame you felt was immeasurable. The guy was going to laugh if he saw you like this and what’s worse was that he was probably going to leave you like this.
This. Up until now, you got to know Junpei and started rooting for him but this. You realize that she doesn’t know Junpei like you do. To her Junpei is only a kidnapper who’s probably going to humiliate her with every chance he’s got.
You wondered how pathetic you looked right now.
Ahh, you hoped your brother had so much fun torturing this guy! You hoped he felt so powerful whenever he humiliated this guy! You hoped it was worth it for you to be standing here right now with your piss training down your leg, panties halfway down your knees, and shaking from the pain of the cigarette burns on your shoulders.
Your sobs turned into giggling.
“Are you done?”
“I pissed myself,” you replied, laughing hysterically but as soon as the guy was in front of you, your laughter turned back into sobs.
He didn’t laugh, rather he looked at you in pity. Which made you whimper audibly before continuously apologizing.
“I’m sorry, sorry, I’m so sorry,” your voice got quieter. “I feel so miserable and pathetic. I can’t do this anymore. Please let me go.”
A glimpse. He sees himself in her. They’re quite similar and he feels bad for doing this to her.
Without saying anything, he grabbed the wet wipes, opening the pack and pulling out a bunch of the wipes. “Come here.”
You took a wobbly step forward and another until you were in front of him.
He crouched, you stilled as he began pulling your piss-soaked panties down, wordlessly urging you to step out of them. Once you did, he used the wet wipes to clean your legs. He quickly wiped at the fluid running down your legs, doing his best to get it all in one go but he needed more wipes.
“Could you spread your legs wider?” He then started wiping your inner thighs after you complied, moving in a circular motion and avoiding looking at your bare pussy. By the time he was done wiping your legs he stood up, grabbing two more wet wipes from the back. “Do girls wipe from back to front or vice versa?”
The question was so out of nowhere that it made you snort.
This was supposed to be a comedic relief and a way of showing Junpei’s awkward and nonchalant personality but yeah it also laid the ground for the reader to start to trust him. He’s just a normal dude. Nothing more or less.
He sighed at your reaction and pressed the wet wipes on your slit, moving it along your folds.
“Ah.” Suddenly, your thighs pressed together, shaking as you pressed your forehead against his chest. The sensation had caught you in surprise, it even made you gasp softly.
He blushed bright red, wiping the front of your pussy and pulling his hand back immediately. “D-done,” he announced.
You nodded against his chest.
This scene is my favorite. The moment of tension, the first time he touched her (even if his intentions weren't sexual) sexually. It’s raw, it’s written normally but their reactions. They feel like an awkward couple, I wanted to make it so the power dynamics suddenly changed or rather disappeared.
These two are equal, only for now. They had an unintentional intimate moment and it’s bittersweet. It’s not supposed to be romantic, it’s supposed to be erotic only because Junpei is the one finding this interaction t be erotic. Even if it was unintentionally, he touched a girl and she reacted erotically.
That’s why in the end he’s the one who feels embarrassed and the reader doesn’t think much of what just happened.
Your plan to escape past forgotten, you walked back to the room and let him lock the anklet around your ankle again before taking out the shock collar. He brought a blanket he pulled out from the bag and draped it over your lap.
“I’ll… I’ll be back in the morning to bring a bucket and underwear for you.”
That was it?
He was going to leave you like this?
You were almost naked except for your bra now and you were exhausted. Having your hands tied around your back when there were so many cigarette burns on your shoulders only added to your pain.
“H-hey,” you called, “Can’t you untie my hands? It’s really uncomfortable.”
He stilled for a moment, thinking. Decidedly, his hand went back and he fished out the box cutter from his back pocket. He pushed the blade out, cutting whatever thing he had used to tie your hands off.
When the pressure disappeared, you felt your shoulders relax. You put your hands on your lap, rubbing your bleeding wrists gently.
He retrieved the thick black zip ties and walked away. “I’ll leave some more food and water then. I’ll leave the wet wipes here too, just find a corner to relieve yourself next time.”
You nodded, he left a couple of store-bought tuna mayo-filled onigiris and a bottle of water on the mattress before placing the wet wipes on the concrete ground.
“Um, uh… Goodnight. I’ll come back in the morning.”
”Yeah.”
You see, Junpei now feels kind of attached. He realized that she’s a human, and she’s a she. A female. A woman. He feels the need to be friendlier, it’s creepy because he only started doing this right after she reacted to his touch. He is pathetic and she noticed that.
He left.
You waited.
Waited.
When you were sure he was gone for the night, you grabbed one of the onigiris, tore the packaging open, and split the ball in half. With your shaking hands, you scooped out the filling and smeared it on your ankle.
Mayonnaise was slippery, it could help you slip the anklet out.
Nevertheless, it didn’t work.
The anklet was adjusted just right around your ankle, it didn’t budge any lower or higher, even with the help of the mayonnaise.
Screaming in anger, you wiped everything off with the wet wipes so the guy wouldn’t notice anything odd tomorrow.
The guy. She doesn’t even know his name.
You had to get out of here.
Think.
Think.
Think.
The chain clanked and you froze.
Your eyes landed on the anklet and followed the chain it was wrapped around.
An idea.
This could work.
No.
This was going to work.
~~~
Click.
You pushed yourself up from the mattress instantly.
He was back.
You could feel the blood pumping through your body, hands shaking from nervousness.
It was completely silent before he gracefully walked inside, he was holding a bucket and a plastic bag. His face was blank but his skin was pale and the face mask was barely covering his nose. He was covered in sweat, hair sticking to his forehead. “I ran here,” he panted. “Let’s be quick, I can’t be late to work again.”
He walked closer, dropping the plastic bag near the mattress and placing the bucket carefully down.
Your lips kept trying to curl down into a frown but you fought to keep your expression neutral as he kneeled next to the plastic bag and pulled out a fresh pack of cotton panties. “I’ll put the collar on you and untie you so you can dress yourself up, okay?”
Nodding, you kept your eyes on him as your breathing became ragged. As soon as he unlocked your anklet, you were going to pounce on him, wrap the chain around his neck and hopefully choke him until he passed out.
That was the plan.
Simple.
He instructed you to stand up while you had the blanket wrapped around your waist. Once you did as he told you, he put the shock collar around your neck and gave you the keys.
Dumbfounded, you stared at him.
“You can do it yourself, I’m gonna watch from a distance.”
No.
This would mean that your plan was ruined.
Funny thing is, I laid the ground so he wouldn’t wanna touch her again. Not that close to her genitals and that’s only because he probably noticed how it softened him, making his resolve falter. He is trying to put distance between them after he noticed that she is actually a woman he’s holding captive. He cannot do this anymore.
Yet, you took the keys from him and he took a couple of steps back, holding the device in his hands.
Your knuckles were white as you unlocked the anklet and tore the packaging of the underwear open. Putting one on, you let the blanket fall down on the mattress.
“Good, now put the anklet back on and throw me the keys.”
You hesitated but still kneeled to grab the anklet and put it around your ankle. Pausing, you pushed the key inside the lock but didn’t lock the anklet. It still made a metallic click sound but it was unlocked.
With shaky hands you threw the keys back at him, being careful to not move your leg so the anklet wouldn’t slip and fall down, ruining your scheme.
He walked over to where the keys had landed and leaned down to grab them. “I brought some more stuff, they’re in the bag. I don’t think I can torture you like your brother tortures me. I’ll… I’ll be back tonight to take you back.”
The color drained from your face and you stood there, shaking. “You’re letting me go?”
“I mean, I don’t feel enjoyment from this like I thought I would,” he breathed. “My mind was clouded with revenge so much that I wanted to torture you who had nothing to do with it.”
He is letting her go, actually. He knows the things he did were wrong and he regrets it. He feels bad because she’s just a helpless woman he held captive.
All of his emotions had drained away in an instant, leaving him reeling.
Hatred was a terrifying emotion.
Junpei could feel it surrounding him. He knew he didn’t hate you but his grudge for your brother hadn’t appeared out of thin air.
He knew it wasn’t fair to you to hold you accountable for what your brother had done to him but he couldn’t help but think of-
No matter how it was, Junpei had promised his mother to bear the burdens he had earned.
Your brother was a nasty bully. His crimes weren't anyone else’s but his fault.
Junpei knew that.
There was no way he could hurt you like he hurt him but… the burden was just too much.
His hands were twitching as he struggled to put away the keys. With an audible yet shuddered sigh, he walked towards you to take off the shock collar but he had moved so abruptly that it made you take a step back, the anklet opened and fell on the ground with a loud clatter.
Whether it be from shock or clumsiness, he dropped the remote control for the shock collar as well.
He froze and so did you.
None of you moved.
Your eyes were on the device, it was closer to you than him. If you were quick, you could grab it before he could. You wouldn’t be able to take off the collar right now, your only chance was the device.
He knew exactly what you were thinking.
He is scared that if she runs away now, without him trying to make things right, she’ll go to the police or just make things worse.
Both of you moved at the same time.
It was as if everything was moving in slow motion, you saw him reach the device before you but your legs didn’t stop, your body crashed against him, tackling him on the ground.
The device flew from his grasp when his body hit the floor and you groaned.
He was getting ready to crawl towards the remote control when you grabbed the chain.
There was a small moment of hesitation as you wrapped the chain around his neck and pulled it with full force.
Here we get a glimpse of the similarities between the siblings. They’re both ruthless but in different ways .This is her HAVING to hurt Junpei to run away because she knows he won’t let her go now. Not when she tried to get away and betrayed his trust. Yet the brother is ruthless and hurts people for his own entertainment.
The guy’s body stilled, going completely stiff as his hands went to his neck, trying to dig under the chain to pull it away.
You only had to hold out until he passed out, you could do this. Just keep pulling. Keep pulling.
One of his hands reached forward, trying to reach the device.
You pulled harder.
His fingertip managed to touch the remote control.
You planted your feet on the floor to pull the chains, it was enough force to knock him out, or at least that was what you had thought.
Before you knew it, an indescribable pain ripped down your spine. Your grip loosened around the chain and you crashed on your knees and hands but then electricity tore around your body, leaving you spasming on the concrete floor, unable to grasp anything as the electricity zapped through each nerve you had.
It felt like minutes until it stopped.
Your body continued spasming as the guy crawled on top of you with his fist up in the air.
The moment his fist met your face, it was hard. Your whole body jolted from the pain and you bounced off from the concrete. The impact left you even more dumbfounded than the electricity that had zapped through your body.
You felt another punch and then another until finally, he stopped.
He yelled in frustration and pain. You couldn’t tell what he was saying but all of the words were being said through his teeth, he sounded very angry.
This. The frustration and anger of her betraying him. Now, he’s the bad guy. He knows that is the impression he gave her. He’s just some creep who kidnapped and put out some cigarettes on her. Nothing else. He had thought they had a connection and that they could be friends or more if it wasn’t for the circumstances. He feels bad. He feels awful. However, he’s forgiving. It’s his fault and he can’t blame you.
Haha, perhaps now he had changed his mind and decided to not let you go.
Maybe if you hadn’t tried to escape, you would have been free tonight.
You heard the anklet’s lock click before you lost consciousness.
~~~
Junpei got scolded by his boss for coming in a half an hour late to work. He was told to work at the back yet again but he endured everything. Just like how he was enduring the pain around his neck.
You had crushed his windpipe, that was for sure. It hurt when he spoke but fortunately it hadn’t affected his voice. If he lost his voice now, he wouldn’t be able to work at all. He needed the money to pay for his rent.
Ahh, he was worried about the wrong things.
He chuckled to himself and his brows furrowed when his throat clenched from the pain.
Tonight, he decided, he was going to finish this tonight.
Still, he’s just an ordinary guy. He feels bad for the things he did and still wants to let her go. It’s burdensome, he cannot carry this guilt with him.
“Jun! Yo man, I’m leaving now!” His coworker entered the break room suddenly, startling him.
“Oh, alright. See you next week then.”
“Yeah, I closed the cash register and mopped the floors, so you can leave once you restock the cigarette displays!” He checked his phone screen and quickly turned around. “See ya, I gotta catch the last bus!”
Junpei didn’t even get to say anything as the guy left. He finished washing the dishes and walked back into the front of the store. Behind the counter, he started stocking the empty cigarette displays.
The sooner he was done, the sooner he could leave. He already had a day off tomorrow so everything would go according to the plan.
The plan is the same, let her go.
Well, Junpei was never that lucky.
The bell over the store’s door chimed, indicating that someone walked in the store. Junpei had thought it was his coworker who had forgotten something but then he heard the familiar laughter of the same three guys.
He turned around hesitantly as his bullies were leaning towards the counter.
The leader was smirking, “Yo, Jun. Haven’t seen you in a while.”
His boss had never installed security cameras and they knew that. They dragged him out of the shop after grabbing some cigarettes.
It was easy to guess where this was going.
“I had a terrible day, Jun!” whined the leader. “I need you to stay still so it’ll end quick, okay?”
Blood splashed onto the concrete ground when his fist met Junpei’s face for the fifth time. Junpei's eyes landed on the dark red liquid pooling under his feet.
“Woah, these brass knuckles are good!” One of the guys laughed.
“The guy who sold them to me said they hurt like a bitch.” The other one stared at Junpei being battered by their leader. “I’d say he’s enduring it well, if I were in his place I’d be bawling my eyes out.”
“Being punched by that guy is the worst, I’m kinda glad we’re friends.”
“Ew, dude. You’re gonna make me puke.”
The leader glowered at Junpei and swung his fist with everything he had. He drove his knuckles into his face and put all of his weight into it until the squelch of tearing flesh and blood spattered across his knuckles.
Junpei’s body could not take it any longer, his eyes rolled to the back of his head. He was out cold in seconds.
~~~
Rage.
That was all he felt as he was packing his bag.
All the thoughts he had, in the beginning, coming back.
He regains the hatred from the beginning, the way he acted without a plan. It is all coming back. He’s losing his mind, his sanity is nonexistent.
He wanted to make that piece of shit regret his entire existence. He wanted to make sure that fucker couldn’t walk out into public without feeling ashamed and scared. He wanted to make him suffer for a lifetime.
Junpei was seeing clearly now.
His plan had been the only right way from the beginning. He couldn’t believe how he wavered from his own resolve just because some girl was playing innocent. You were the same as your brother.
You had to be.
Her desperate attempt at getting away and her seeing him as nothing but a bad guy is now being seen as just the two siblings being the exact same to Junpei. They are the same. He hates them, he won’t feel bad anymore. The brother’s face is overlapping with sister’s.
None of it mattered anyway.
What mattered was the end result.
And Junpei knew he was going to get the result he wanted nevertheless if it meant he would lose a piece of his humanity.
He finally is insane. His humanity is gone. He isn’t calculating anything, only acting on impulse.
~~~
With a sudden bang the door opened, it made you jolt as you were eating one of the melon bread the guy had bought for you.
I wanted to bring it to attention that he still bought her food, snacks even. To make her comfortable. He’s caring or used to be. He tried to prove to her that he wasn’t a bad guy.
Your ears were ringing as you stared at the guy walking inside with a backpack. He was shaking violently.
He was wearing the gloves as usual but his face was bare. Well, for the most part. It was covered in bandages that were bleeding through and the rest of his face was swollen.
His appearance sent a fierce shudder through your body because you knew who had done this to him.
She can see it. The insanity. Her brother turned him this way.
Your lips had barely parted to say something when he was hastily walking towards you with a deranged look in his eyes.
This isn’t the same guy who kidnapped her. He is ruthless and she is sure he’s actually going to kill her now.
You kicked on the mattress to get away but he took out the familiar device from his front pocket. Your hand went to your neck, the collar, it was still on.
Before you could register anything, electricity struck through your body, leaving you spasming on the mattress.
“You know, I was still planning to release you even after what you did.” He started digging through his bag. “But your brother made me change my mind. You really should thank him for that.”
He hadn’t realized how you couldn’t hear him at all from the shock coursing through your body. Once he saw you frothing at the mouth, he turned the device off to crawl on top of you with his video camera pointed at your face. “Good thing that I’m weak, your face is still recognizable.”
Funny if not miserable. He’s happy he couldn’t ruin her face even though he had put his whole weight behind the punches he threw at her.
You stared into the camera lens and then at him.
Panic started to course through your body.
“Please,” you begged, “I’m sorry.”
“Why are you apologizing, you didn’t do anything. You had nothing to do with me and I had nothing to do with you. This is just about your shitty brother.”
“Please…”
“Stop crying, it’s annoying.” He squished your cheeks together with one gloved hand until your lips puckered, continuing to film everything at the same time. “But I’d say your crying face is really erotic.”
You sobbed, tears streaming down your face.
“Yeah, that’s the face.”
He gets it now. Why people bullied him and why people like to see others cry. It makes you feel superior, invincible and it’s erotic for someone like him. In his mental state right now, it’s just sexy, he wants to ruin her.
He let go of your face and pulled out the box cutter from his back pocket. “Don’t move,” he warned and you didn’t dare to. He sliced your bra right from the middle, this time, the tip of the blade cut your skin.
Now, he’s not as careful as before. When he was first cutting her clothes he tried not to hurt her more than he was going to, he was even scared that he was hurting her but now. It’s different.
You yelped in pain and blood started oozing out from the cut. Pressing his finger where your cut was, he pulled the skin down, making more blood gush out. You watched in terror with wide eyes as he filmed the blood streaming down from your chest to your stomach.
“Okay, now tell the audience your name and age.” He returned his attention to you.
He was going to show this to others. This would count as evidence.
“My attacker has dark hair and dark eyes, he is-”
She thinks she’s going to die and desperately tries to warn whoever is watching so that he’ll go to prison.
“Introduce yourself nicely or I’ll have to make it hurt.” He pressed the box cutter’s blade against your cheek. “I will edit this video and post it later for everyone to see if your brother even comes close to me.”
It’s clear that he’s going to release her and use this as blackmail. She only noticed this when he said it like that. She has to convince him to stop.
“I’m the one with a reputation,” you whimpered, “Please, it’s got nothing to do with me. Please.”
“That’s why you’re here,” he scoffed. “You have nothing to do with this. You’re like me! You did nothing wrong other than existing in this timeline! If only your brother wasn’t a douchebag narcissist, you wouldn’t be here!” He was yelling in your face, you were trembling in fear, completely unaware of what could happen in the next second.
This isn’t the same awkward kidnapper from the beginning, not a trace of his old self is present.
You felt the cold metal of the blade moving down your body until it met the fabric of your panties. He slashed the fabric, giving you another small but deep cut on your hip.
“I feel so sorry for you,” he said but his tone didn’t match his words. “So sorry. You’re so weak and defenseless. Weaker than me. Oh, I feel so sorry for you.”
There are two ways you can interpret this or maybe more but these were on my mind. I usually leave it to my friends when they’re reading our screenplays to decide what I was going for the scene and this is exactly the same.
One actor might play it as a miserable guy who is pitying the helpless girl he’s going to rape because that is the only way to hurt a woman in his mind and hurt the bully in the worst way possible because she’s going to hate her brother for putting her in this position.
It can be said in a tone that's mocking yet still full of pity.
Another actor could play it as a man talking to himself. What he’s seeing is like looking at a mirror, this defenseless girl under him is just like him and he’s still trying to regain some of his humanity back but it’s too late. He has already taken a step forward he cannot take back. The voice is cracking like a call for help.
He tore the rest of the fabric off of you as he panted in excitement.
That’s the part why the tone of his voice not matching what he was saying doesn’t make sense. You realize this guy is actually insane. He’s not some normal ordinary guy anymore.
“I understand why your brother enjoys it so much now! I feel like a God. You’re at my mercy and you will take whatever comes your way because I have the power. If only you were a little stronger! Ahh, you’re so pitiful, it must be so unbearable!”
You get to see more of his insanity in just three paragraphs. He’s acting conflicted or maybe actually conflicted but this… things he said here are real. He is honest.
You froze, unable to do anything but watch in horror, he was so deranged that it was frightening. He had actually lost his mind.
“(name)!” he yelled, holding the camera up to your face, “Introduce yourself so we can begin! It’ll be just like a movie! First the actress’s name and the title screen!”
“I-”
“Speak up!”
With trembling lips, you introduced yourself, arms covering your chest as he was filming you.
“Be honest, (name), are you a virgin?”
A sob.
Ahh, the clueless girl finally gets an idea of what he is going to do to her.
“I need an answer.”
A nod.
“Ahh, you’re going to be my first as well. How miserable!”
Your eyes widened and you started crying harder.
Mocking and actually miserable. He’s wording it like they’re two lovers before calling it miserable. Even though he’s the one with power right now, he still feels equal. They are the same.
He put the box cutter back in his pocket and placed the video camera next to your head as he reached behind him to grab his bag. He searched through his bag until he found what he was looking for.
Smiling, he took out a cigarette from the pack and placed it between your lips. “I’ll light it for you,” he whispered. The cigarette was shaking along with your trembling lips as he lit the tip. “Inhale.”
You inhaled and the smoke filled your lungs, the nicotine calmed your senses slightly until you had to exhale.
He took the cigarette away from you once it was fully lit.
“Open your mouth.”
“Noo-”
He forced his fingers in your mouth to pry your jaw open. Holding your tongue tightly between two gloved fingers, he pulled the muscle out forcefully before pressing the lit tip down on your tongue.
You heard it sizzle and the pain was indescribable.
Do not try this lol
It actually makes those bubbles on skin kinda thing with water inside or idk if it was. It makes it hard to eat anything other than room temperature soup and you can only drink water for ehh, 2 weeks.
Your hands reached out to his arms, trying to scratch at his skin but it was futile, he was wearing a thick sweatshirt.
Letting your tongue go, he pushed the cigarette inside your mouth.
“Chew.”
Tears blurred your vision, it worked in your favor though, so you didn’t have to see the dark amusement in his eyes as the tobacco leaves exploded in your mouth, absorbing the saliva and leaving your mouth dry.
“Swallow.”
You shook your head, there was no way you could, there was no-
“It’s not that hard. Your brother made me eat it a couple of times before.”
He relented when you shook your head again. His eyes landed on the water bottle he had left for you earlier and reached for it. Opening the lid, he poured it down your face.
The liquid that managed to get inside your mouth helped you spit out most of the leaves but not all of them. While you were busy coughing, Junpei unbuckled his belt. He was staring down at you, watching you struggle with some dark amusement, and the dangerous glint in his eyes made you tense. You defensively squeezed your legs together and watched him pull his pants down just enough to let his hard cock bounce free.
You found yourself violently trembling as panic coursed through your body. There was no will to fight left in you, exhausted and so in pain, all you could do was lie still.
“Calm down,” he assured, caressing your cheek. “What we’re gonna do next won’t hurt physically.”
He reached for his bag again, taking out something you didn’t recognize. “Ahh, this?” Noticing your stare he held it up for you to see, “It’s a condom, I don’t wanna leave any evidence.”
It’s fucking scary to be told this. That’s it.
At that moment, you wished your brother would drop dead wherever he was. You wanted him to die in such a miserable way that he would suffer even after death.
Idk if you know but porn is kinda illegal in Japan. They cencor it so if they get sued they can say that they were ‘pretending’ to have sex or they were just acting. That’s why her reaction is normal. It’s not only about being raped, it’s about losing everything and getting arrested. She won’t be able to get a job because this will end up in her report and they won’t think of this as rape. There are way too many fetish porn being filmed in japan, this can simple be one of them. That’s what’s so scary.
Aside from that he just told her that he didn’t wanna leave any evidence. She has no idea if she’s going to live or not. He can kill her right now and make this into a snuff movie. He’s just so unpredictable.
Rolling the condom down his cock, Junpei grabbed the video camera pointing the lens at your face. He was being extra careful to not film himself. “Anything you wanna say to the audience?”
“...”
She’s scared. Lost the will to fight because she’s going to get hurt nonetheless. He’s not filming himself because he cannot leave any evidence. She cannot fight back even if she wants to.
You laid there motionlessly as he placed himself between your legs, moving them until he got comfortable and filming your bare pussy.
He pushed a gloved finger inside and twisted it around before pulling it out. He filmed the clear fluid coating the latex on his finger with a smile.
Junpei put a hand on your thigh, spreading your leg wider and pulling you towards his hips until his cock was looming over your crotch.
Proceeding to film you, he placed his hand on your bleeding chest. He covered his fingers with the blood and used it to smear it around his cock. The condom turned an ugly orange as the plastic rubbing on plastic made a disturbing squeaking noise.
He ran the tip of his cock across your slit and pressed it against your entrance, filming it closely as he pushed himself inside of you.
You tensed and yelped as his cock tore your hymen. It continued stretching your virgin walls until his entire length was buried in your pussy.
For a brief moment, Junpei stilled, he took a deep breath to adjust to your virgin walls squeezing him before he started to move.
“W-wait.” Your tongue felt foreign in your own mouth, it was swollen, most likely bleeding as well.
He listened or you thought he did. You thought it was over, finally, the torture was over- but you didn’t realize the wicked smile on his lips.
Junpei pulled his hips back and slammed into you abruptly. Your mouth opened in a silent scream as he set a pace for himself. His eyes were on your tits, they moved each time he moved his hips, it was almost as hypnotizing as watching his cock disappear into your body.
The pain of your hymen being torn past forgotten, your toes curled involuntarily at his cock stroking a nice spot.
“Stop, please!” Having your tongue being swollen made you sound weird like you were slurring.
“Why? Why should I?” he laughed, voice full of mischief as he lifted the camera up to your face. “You look like you’re enjoying yourself.”
Blinking past tears, you turned your face away.
He laughed louder at your reaction before asking a question, “So, how does it feel to be fucked by some loser your brother likes to bully?”
He snapped his hips forward to force a moan out of your pretty lips. Junpei mercilessly humped your pussy, forcing your walls to take the shape of his cock. “Does it feel good?”
You sobbed loudly. “No-”
He cut you off by pounding into your pussy, forcing another moan out of you. “Come ooon, say it feels good!”
“No,” you cried.
“Say it feels good!” he yelled into your face.
“It feels so good!” you croaked in fear, sobbing uncontrollably.
Junpei stilled only for a moment, he stared at you in admiration and used one hand to push your leg to your chest. He buried his cock deeper inside of you, quickening his pace and fucking you frantically, putting his entire weight behind each thrust.
Your walls clenched around his cock and almost immediately he came inside the condom, dropping the camera from the way his orgasm took over his senses, leaving him trembling.
You didn’t remember him pulling out of you nor did you remember him unlocking the anklet but there was a phone being held up to your face now.
It was… your phone.
“Hellooooo?”
A familiar voice was laughing.
This part. This was the plan.
At that exact moment, you felt furious, rage filled all of your senses and you wished he was right in front of you so you could stab him with a knife, rake the blade repeatedly along his neck and let him die bleeding.
What you felt wasn’t only rage and anger but murderous intent. You wanted to kill, something you never thought you would feel like you would lust after at any point of your life.
Someone as passive aggressive as her wanting to murder someone, kinda ironic and poetic. Junpei made that happen, he’s proud of it.
“(name)? What’s up? How are the hot springs with your friends? Ya having fun?”
Junpei was smiling as your face contorted into something vile.
He did it. He broke her.
You pressed your lips together and spoke through your teeth to sound clear. “You pathetic piece of shit.”
I wanted to use curses and vulgar language in this scene because it’s just so incredible how much she blames her brother for everything that happened here. It’s all his fault, Junpei made sure to make her think that way. She believes it.
It got quiet before your brother’s tone softened. “Did something happen?”
“I wanted to believe that there was good inside of you but I guess I was wrong.” Your voice was clear and understandable but your entire body was buzzing with hot tremors of rage. “You’re a fucking disgrace, I hope you die. Die, die die! Kill yourself before I kill you myself, you hear me?!”
Heartbreaking to hear someone you deeply treasure talk to you this way. It’s the worst possible punishment. Junpei did it. He won.
“(name)?” His voice wavered as if he was ashamed. How cute, he was already feeling guilty. “I don’t know what happened but you can always talk to me if your friends are causing you a problem-”
“The problem is you! Die! Die! Die! I want nothing from a pathetic excuse of a brother like you! The problem has always been you, I will never forgive you not until I watch you die miserably, not until I watch you get lowered in your grave!”
You were panting by the time you were done.
“Where are you?” he asked hesitantly. “I’ll come to get you right now, it doesn’t matter how far away you are.”
The brother is so desperate to make everything right. Whatever that happened to his sister that he’s not aware of does not matter. He wants his little sister back. She’s the only thing he treasures and we know this. If he loses her, it’s over for him.
“I don’t wanna talk to him anymore, get the phone out of my face.”
“Is there someone with you?” your brother quickly changed his tone to sound more masculine. “Tell them to give me your address.”
You see how quickly he changes?  He cannot show that loving and caring side because he feels inferior. He must be the best at all times.
Junpei leaned forward to speak to the phone with a sinister smile. “Don’t worry, I’ll call her a taxi in the morning.”
Silence.
A gasp.
“Jun?”
“Yeah?” Junpei couldn’t hide the smile in his voice.
Can you imagine the way he must feel? The bully comes to realize that his sister is with the guy he battered on the daily. The guy he humiliated every single day.
“I’m going to kill you,” he hissed. “Whatever you did to her, I’ll do it to you-”
“Oh, I did everything you did to me to her. Don’t worry about that.”
“I… I am going to beat you to death.”
“Alright, I’ll post your sister’s sex tape now then. It has her face and everything. She even says her name and age, how gullible is that?”
It took your dumb brother a long moment to realize how he had been chased into a corner.
“But I bet he doesn’t care, right, (name)?” Junpei was laughing hysterically. You didn’t answer. “He’s so selfish after all!”
“What do you want?”¨
The brother is helpless. The bully cannot win. He has lost everything. By that I mean everything. The thing he treasured the most and now he’s guilty, he feels the guilt he has never felt before. He only realized his mistakes after he lost the thing he loved the most.
He had finally won.
Junpei sighed dreamily before he answered honestly with his eyes landing on you.
"I already got what I wanted."
Here, some people interpret it as him winning the girl for some reason??? Lol he meant it the way she hated her brother and helped him get the revenge he desperately wanted.
~~~
Living a life without the fear of being constantly battered by a bunch of losers was nice. It was quiet and peaceful, as expected.
It was worth it.
Junpei was happy. He had even gotten himself a girlfriend. Someone gullible and weak.
She stayed. There might be many reasons. But not a single one is romantic. It could be because she wants to punish her brother even more and this is an act of self harm.
It could be because she thinks they’re the same and she doesn’t hold him accountable for the things he did. It’s now his fault because it was his brother who forced him to do it, right?
It could be because Junpei blackmailed her.
And many more.
My favorite interpretation and the reason she stayed is that she feels attached to him. They went all through that together, she knows he is insane but who isn’t? They both lost their humanities in that warehouse. They both lost their innocence in there, they became lifeless and learned how similar they were. No matter how toxic and unhealthy it is, it’s enough to sprout a false sense of security and bond between them.
They’re together because they’re the same. Broken and outspoken.
The revenge was sweet, being the victor of a fight for power made him more confident and less of an outcast.
ALSO here is the ending I had planned but didn’t post. TW for suicide
This was the ending I had before but my editor said it was too dark and it would be better to leave the ending open so the readers could interpret as they wanted.
“What do you want?”
He had finally won.
Junpei sighed dreamily before he answered honestly.
~~~
Living a life without the fear of being constantly battered by a bunch of losers was nice. It was quiet and peaceful, as expected.
Junpei was happy.
The revenge was sweet, being the victor of a fight for power made him confident, less of an outcast.
It even got him a girlfriend.
“Did you hear?” you asked, grinning.
“Hear what? Even the neighbors heard your moans from the other night-”
You hit him jokingly and intertwined your fingers together. “He tried killing himself again.”
“By hanging?” he asked curiously.
“Slit his wrists horizontally and bled out slowly until one of his roommates found him,” you hummed, pouting. “Meaning… You owe me twenty bucks.”
“Ahh, dammit. Where did you hear that? How can I believe he didn’t hang himself this time?”
“I got a call from the hospital.” You stuck your tongue out walking closer to him. “They asked me to visit him.”
“You’re gonna?” He raised a brow, his expression on his face was terrifying. The answer to this question was important.
Sweat droplets started forming on your forehead and you chuckled nervously, not wanting him to hate you. “I don’t wanna.” You quickly started dragging him down the street, “Come on, we’re gonna miss the movie.”
“They always play the trailers in the first ten minutes-”
“I  have to buy snacks with the twenty bucks you’re gonna give me!”
Your laughter was like music to his ears. Junpei let you drag him wherever you liked as his mind was clouded by his thoughts.
He wondered when would that guy actually find the courage to do the easiest thing anyone could ever ask him to do. He better kept his promise if he wanted Junpei to keep his.
Junpei almost laughed thinking about what kind of face your brother would make if he found out that you stayed with him because you were both the same, that it was you who chose to stay.
Ahh, that would be a funny sight to see.
Lmao very funney. The way how they just trying to get revenge on the brother and waiting for his death and literally betting on it. It’s childish and insane but that’s how they are. The brother made them become this way.
NSJhbleujh,bgf,
Anyway yeah, that’s it.
I love this fic.
Last Words
Writing this was fun, it’s my favorite fic I’ve ever written or at least so far. I had fun playing around with Junpei’s personality and trying to ‘justify’ his actions. I was proud of myself for writing a conflicted protagonist, conflicted because you don’t know if you’re rooting for him or not.
Also, the piss scene. It was the money shot. The fucking money shot man. I was literally trembling as I wrote it, the personalities, the tension and the way they both interpret that interaction as two different things. It was the first raw interaction between them.
This is the song I listened to writing Junpei. It’s The Ballad of Costa Condordia by Car Seat Headrest. Amazing song for a character who’s going insane slowly. An outcast being bullied and losing their will to live, wanting to die and missing the good old days when they didn’t need to worry about anything but what mom was cooking for dinner. It’s my own theme song if not Junpei’s.
Anywayyyy, I don’t think I can ever write anything as good as this or enjoy writing  something as much as this.
That’s it, thank you for reading!!!
New show, new me, bitches!
“What about you?” you interrupted while Derek Hale was speaking.
He seemed vexed, and looked up from the map you were both hunched over, along with Scott and Stiles, to glare at you.
“What about me?”
“You’re still healing,” you reminded him. He had barely come out alive from his last encounter with the Alpha Pack.
“I’ll be fine.”
“Look, if it’s just a couple of ghost riders, I can handle it on my own. I don’t need a babysitter.”
“What if it’s more than a couple? What if it’s 10? What if it’s 20?”
“I’ll howl”, you said sarcastically.
Derek’s expression remained stoic, unimpressed by the joke.
“I own a phone, OK? I’ll give you a call if things go south and then you can carelessly risk your life to save me.”
“(Y/N), I’m going with you whether you like it or not.”
“Fine, but if I have to drag your lifeless werewolf corpse all the way back here, I’m not gonna be happy about it.”
“That won’t exactly be my problem.”
You made a face at him and turned to Stiles.
“Wow, you were right about this guy.”
Derek shot a death glare at Stiles, who turned white. Derek looked down at the map again and continued drilling the plan into everyone’s heads. Not like it did any good, since, as always, the plan went completely to shit.
Sure enough, there were more Ghost Hunters than you and Derek had prepared for. It would have taken the whole pack to take them down easily. They had been waiting for you at Beacon Hills High School when you arrived, and you and Derek barely held them off long enough for the others to arrive to back you up.
While Scott and Stiles tried to work on a convincing cover story to tell the Sherriff, you and Derek were in charge of the clean up. He barely looked in your direction the whole time you were working, which you found unnerving.
“You’re welcome for taking initiative,” you snapped, finally breaking the silence. “Which, by the way, saved your life!”
“At what cost? Your own?” he managed to grunt out.
“All right, that’s it!”
Your adrenaline was still pumping hard from the fight, which might have been why your anger levels suddenly shot through the roof. You marched right up to Derek.
“You might be able to tell Scott and Stiles what to do but I’m not afraid of you.”
As he whipped around to face you, his eyes glowed red and his face was contorted, teeth sharp and ears pointed.
“You should be!” he roared.
You inhaled sharply but stood your ground. You’d never seen him in his wolf form before. Your fear and confusion turned to fascination as you stared at him. You reached up and touched his ear, which caused him to flinch in surprise. You stroked it, then moved your hand up to his forehead, then down his cheeks, then across his lips. He transformed slowly back to his human form. He didn’t even meet your eyes before walking away.
“Look, I’m sorry I went against the plan, I was just trying to help.”
Derek said nothing, but stalked towards the school doors.
“We look out for those in our pack, that’s what you told Scott,” you reminded him.
He stopped and spoke over his shoulder.
“I’m not in his pack.”
You smiled at him.
“Of course you are.”
He only stood there, hand on the door, and stared at you.
“You are one of us, Derek.”
He opened the door wordlessly and walked out, leaving you to deal with the rest of the mess.
***************************
A few days later, you knocked on Derek’s door while he was busy dressing his wounds after having picked yet another fight with the Alpha Pack. He gave you a ‘what do you want’ look when he saw you. Risking a quick look over his torso before speaking, being very careful to look into his eyes and no lower, you reminded yourself of the objective at hand.
“Is Scott here?” you asked.
“No.”
“Oh...”
“Why?”
“He asked me to meet him here.”
“What for?”
“I don’t know. He’s been sending me cryptic texts all day. Do you know how many times I nearly got kicked out of class because of this thing going off?”
You held up your phone.
“Why would he ask you to meet him here?”
“He obviously has something to tell you, too.”
Derek sighed, annoyed, and opened the door wider for you to come in. You closed the door behind you and looked around at the stark apartment. He sat where he was with his back to you and continued to dress his wounds silently. Well, you couldn’t just stand there awkwardly until Scott arrived, you had to make some attempt at a conversation.
“You know, this place could do with some wallpaper or something.”
Derek ignored you and continued to dress his wounds.
“Maybe a nice shade of red... to match your eyes of course.”
You swore you saw his shoulders shake slightly in a chuckle, but you couldn’t be sure, it only lasted for a split second. He reached for a spot on his shoulder, which he couldn’t get to very well.
“Want a hand?”
“I’m fine,” he replied, but he continued to reach clumsily for the wound.
“You’re gonna rip open the others if you keep doing that. Here.”
You automatically grabbed the ointment from him and gently spread it around his back as needed. Once you realised what was happening you finished up quickly. He handed you the bandages without looking at you, and you wrapped those around his shoulder, noticing the muscles as you moved your hands across his body. He did not protest, nor did he say anything.
“See? Sometimes even you could do with a little help.”
He was spared answering by a knock at the door. Derek sniffed deeply.
“It’s Scott,” he said.
You went to answer the door as Derek put a fresh shirt on.
“Oh, good, you’re here.” Scott said when he saw you.
“What’s this about, Scott?” you asked, forgetting all about the moment you had just shared with Derek.
“You’re both not gonna believe this. I think I know how to defeat the ghost riders...”
Well, the plan, again, went to shit. It seemed like you had barely just started fighting when you noticed a sharp sting in your side and felt the warm trickle of blood drench your shirt. In an instant, Derek was at your side.
“Ah, shit...” was all you could get out before your vision faded.
When you woke, Melissa McCall was standing over you, patching up your side. Derek was lurking in the corner of the room, but jumped up as you stirred.
“Welcome back,” Melissa spoke quietly, smiling at you.
You were about to answer, but Melissa put sudden pressure on an area of the wound and a burning sensation shot up your side, causing you to cry out in pain. Derek grabbed her arm and growled.
“Be careful!”
“Derek!” Melissa warned, glaring down at his hand.
He realised what he was doing and hastily let go, backing away into the corner again.
“Sorry”.
Melissa continued patching you up, Derek watching her every move.
“All right, that should do it. But you have to take it easy for the next few days.”
Melissa side eyed Derek.
“She’s taking a cab back home.”
“I haven’t got any money,” you realised.
“Don’t worry, I’ll call Stiles,” Derek said, pulling his phone out of his back pocket and walking out of the room.
You watched him leave longer than you would have admitted to anyone. When Melissa spoke, your insides jumped, momentarily forgetting she was there.
“How do you feel?”
“I’m actually kinda hungry.”
Next thing you knew, Melissa had forced Derek to walk you to the hospital cafeteria for something to eat.
“What do you want?” he muttered, unimpressed by the selection of food before him.
“Ooh, that bacon looks so good! Plus, I suppose it’s the closest thing to deer they have here.”
You definitely saw it this time. It wasn’t really a full smile, but something definitely changed in his face.
“Very funny”, he said.
He grabbed two platefuls and paid, walking them over to the table where you sat.
“Thanks, you didn’t have to do that.”
“You didn’t bring any money, remember?”
“Right. I didn’t think you were the gentleman type anyway.”
“There’s a lot of things you don’t know about me.”
“Yeah, I figured.”
He began to pick at his bacon silently as he sat down opposite you. Your eyes roamed his face as he looked down at his plate. He was still an asshole, but you were definitely starting to think you might be able to get used to him.
Part 5
I diligently continued typing on the laptop. A few days have already passed since my visit. I am glad that he is feeling a little better. Seeing Venti in such a low state is unusual for me. What matters in the end is that he was available again and that nothing bad happened. That's the most important thing, isn't it?
Sighing, I let my hands off the keyboard and went to the kitchen so I could drink some water. I should remember to drink enough water. Unfortunately, I forget to do that most of the time. How did I come up with that now? This answer can be answered by reading my last received message:
Drinking yet? And I mean H2O
-Venti
But no matter how much water I take. Something has been making me feel empty for a while. I don't know what. It's like I can't remember it. Deep down, I know something was.
Only what?
Or maybe I'm just too tired. Sleep? Dreams I can't remember clearly? Who knows. After a short break, I got back to my work before I have to go to a lecture.
"It's an interesting view. However, will things really disappear forever? It's like a wound that heals eventually. However, most wounds leave traces. Be it halfway healed or or completely healed with a lingering memory. Now you can ask yourself...", his voice was clear and audible. But never too loud.
I sat in the hall and noted the approaches Zhongli told us. I am surprised how well you can learn from him. He is an asset to all of us. Only it still feels a little weird to have his private contact information. No, I have nothing against him. On the contrary, I admire him a lot.
And that's what scares me a bit. There are never any stupid questions for him, yet I usually don't get many sentences out with him, worried I'll sound stupid or act stupid.
Or it may just be because Xiao makes me nervous. Sometimes he is with Zhongli and has his layouts as well as papers ready. Although he doesn't look quite so angry anymore, now he's just been looking at me with an unreadable look since the car ride.
When I told Venti this, he did nothing but laugh. To this day, I didn't understand what was so funny about it. He said that I would get used to it.
Skeptically I looked inconspicuously in the hall to the right side. Whether he.. yes.
He's staring at me.
I looked back to my notepad.
Oh, Venti. How am I supposed to get used to this, please? I wonder if I did something wrong.
Anyway, it's a few more minutes. Then I have a meeting with Venti at recess. I will still manage that.
But during the break, I seem to have been showered with bad luck. Just as I was talking to Venti, he called Xiao over. He wanted to thank me for accompanying him and that like Zhongli, he was also a good friend and so on. I thought that this small talk with Xiao was finished. But Venti had the brilliant idea to leave me alone with Xiao for now. He wants to get something to drink for all three of us, so he should please stay with me and wait until he comes back.
I swear, the little guy does that on purpose.
There was total radio silence between me and Xiao. Alright, how can I break the ice between us? Here we go.
With a smile, I looked at him. "So you and Venti are good friends?", I started.
"Yeah."
"That's great. He's friendly, you can't help it...", I said scratching my head. Now I couldn't think of anything else to say. Small talk isn't quite my forte when it's just me talking....
Maybe I could take advantage of this moment?
"H-Have I got something on my face...?", I asked, pointing an index finger at my face.
"It's all good. There's nothing there."
"Oh, really? How can I say...you always stare at me like that..." I said.
"Ah. I am?"
Yes, you do. You know you do. "Yeah", I muttered.
"Didn't realize." What? Liar.
"Oh... well then. I just noticed...", I said with a small smile. The green-haired man just nodded before looking up at the sky. Now it was silent between us again. Maybe I should give up trying to break the ice between us as much as his look always makes me nervous. After a moment, I almost slapped my forehead with the flat of my hand. I almost forgot about that. I rummaged in my bag and pulled out a can, then opened it.
This seemed to draw Xiao's attention. "Is that almond tofu?"
"Yes. I made this yesterday when I had time. Only I forgot to give it to you two. As a thank you for driving me to Venti," I said.
"Why almond tofu of all things...?" he wanted to know, turning in my direction. Scratching my head, I looked at him. I was at a loss myself.
"I don't know. Somehow I had a feeling that I really needed to make almond tofu as a little thank you to you two..ehm- what is it? Oh, no, please don't tell me you guys don't like almond tofu?!" Xiao shook his head. "On the contrary, I tolerate it the best."
Relieved, I handed him the can. "It's fortunate. I can't thank you guys enough. Venti...he means a lot to me. How can I put it? His music saved me...", I said quietly embarrassed. Xiao looked at me for a moment.I could have sworn I saw his eyes light up briefly.
"Thank you so much. I'll tell him about it."
"Heey, you two! Sorry it took so long! The vending machine was- uh, a little broken! Did you guys become friends?", Venti greeted us happily and handed us drinks. I don't believe his excuse.
Xiao looked already however again monotonously, as if nothing had happened. "(Name) said that you mean a lot to her." HEY! What are you doing?!
Venti proudly put his hands on his hips. "Ehe~, you could say that we live like lovers. We spend mostly morning hours and cozy nights together uninterruptedly, we are physically-"
Xiao didn't seem to have expected this answer and looked almost distraught, as if he regretted his statement. My cheeks warmed and I interrupted the cheeky musician before he could finish his sentence. "Stop making it sound wrong!" then I turned to Xiao. "Venti is like a pet to me. He secretly eats my snacks.“
"EEEHH? A pet? How mean, (Name)! Wait a second..you noticed?“
After showering, I did my hair according to my hair type fairly and put on a comfy pair of pajamas. I didn't have the nerve for a bra right now. Besides, my top was loose and dark enough.
In the living room, Venti looked at some sheet music for the next piece of music. I stretched briefly and sat down next to him. I was already tired, but going to sleep now would be too soon.
"It's rare that I see you studying," I turned to him and glanced at the sheet music.
"Oh, I'm just looking at some stuff. These are all pieces for my next gig this week."
Venti plays the harp for some restaurants as a perk besides university and told me quite a bit. And from what I've heard, they're very expensive restaurants. I can well imagine that he earns a lot.
Venti must have noticed my interested look. He put his note aside and dropped onto my torso, sighing. "How about coming to my next performance? I'd love to have you as a guest!" Is he serious right now? Wow!
"Really? Can I?", I asked incredulously, looking down at him.
"But of course. I'm allowed to invite guests. How about that?" he asked with a smile.
"I'd love to. I look forward to it, I really do." I was already eager to see him play again. For one thing, because I'd never been to places like this before. But then something occurred to me.
"Oh, sorry..I'll have to see if I can come because of my work."
"Really? Well, there's a next time too. But it would be great if you could make it!“ I nodded in agreement.
"I wonder what you'll wear for my performance if you're there~", he sighed dreamily and leaned his head more on my chest. "Huh...?", he looked up at the ceiling questioningly. "Somehow it feels different..."
I raised an eyebrow and pinched his cheek with one hand.
"Ow- ah, don't pull! It's okay! I won't question anything!!!"
Now that I think about it, what should I wear to the restaurant? Do I still have clothes for special occasions? I should go shopping just to be on the safe side.
"(Name), my cheek!" Maybe I should go shopping. I can't show up in baggy clothes.
No sooner said than done. At the nearest mall, I picked out an elegant outfit a few days later. It took a while, but finally I own something nice and brand new.
Although his performance is tonight, but I finally found time to buy the clothes. The days before I had a lot on my mind. Since I had not yet had the opportunity to go shopping. Well, first I should go to work. And if I get off early, just go take a shower..then I should fix my hair.
With luck, I was actually allowed to leave work early because we were getting virtually no guests.
A while later, I was standing in front of a restaurant in the evening. It looked very pompous. Also, there was a fountain with lights nearby. How I would love to go for a walk.
Only unfortunately I have no time for it now. I now looked at the invitation that Venti gave me. He told me that I should just show it at the reception. So I did so. The older man at the reception looked at the invitation briefly. He seemed surprised for a moment, but then he nodded and let me in. I wonder if I'll get there in time. But as I entered the restaurant, I heard nothing but the soft playing of a harp.
I stroked my hair once and stopped by the stairs. From the top, I had a nice view of the young man with the light blue hair tips. Only this time he tied his hair back and wore a suit. I didn't realize how fixated I was on his face. He didn't look happy. Neither, nor focused. More distracted, completely caught up in his thoughts. I put a hand on my left breast. Somehow I felt quite different. When I looked around for a moment, the audience seemed to look normal or amused.
Am I the only one who seems melancholic because of the harp? I don't know why. On the other hand, it seemed familiar, as if I had heard it once. A déjà vu, perhaps?
I didn't notice how tears gathered in my eyes when his performance was over.
Oh.
With a handkerchief, I wiped them away. My head ached. I'd better get out into the fresh air. Before that, I wrote Venti a message. I didn't want to get on his nerves. He must be very busy.
"It was beautiful."
Outside, I breathed in the cold night air. The sound of the fountain running could be heard in the background. My head felt a little better. But the pain was not completely gone. I looked around. It was pretty much empty of people outside. They must all still be in the restaurant.
"(N-name)...! You're..s-still there..."
I turned around immediately. Venti was slightly out of breath and holding his cell phone in his left hand. He must have read my message.
"Venti...don't you have to go back?", I asked, approaching him. He just shook his head. "I'm off duty now. Besides, it's boring to talk to the others. They're a little..peculiar."
"I see."
"Did you really like it?" Now he didn't sound out of breath, but instead he looked slightly worried.
"Yes, very much. But, how can I say...it made me sad. It sounds different from what you usually play," I answered his question honestly.
"Sad... huh? Do you know that piece?" the young man wanted to know.
"It's like I heard it once. But I don't think so.", Venti gave me a smile and held his hand in front of me. I hesitated for a moment. But then I interpreted that he wanted me to hold his hand.
My interpretation was correct as he walked me to the fountain. Then he let go of my hand.
"You know, this song...I played it especially for you."
Not knowing what to say, I breathed a slight sigh of relief. For me? "I'm glad you were able to come in time. Thank you, (Name)." I shook my head. "No, I have to say thank you..no one has ever done anything like this for me before- I..." Touched by this gesture, I wiped across my eyelids. Hahh, I'm almost starting to cry.
He smiled and took my hand again. "I don't have to perform anymore today. Come on, I'll drive you home."
At first I thought he was joking. Venti...and driving a car? But that thought quickly disappeared when I found myself in the passenger seat. Slightly, I turned my head to Venti, who was looking intently at the road. His black jacket was neatly folded on my lap. His collar from the white shirt was slightly open because he had freed his neck from the bow and opened 2 buttons. I definitely know he's not a fan of suits. But the way he looked so focused and with his hair tied back made him look a little more grown up. His eyes kept lighting up from the streetlights we kept passing as we drove by. It was funny how he seemed playful at times and then suddenly grown up again.
"I...didn't know you knew how to drive."
"Surprise~ I very rarely do, though, and to be honest I don't really like it."
"I see. Do you always perform there?"
"Hmm..occasionally. I like performing in bars. It's more fun for me there and I can wear whatever I want."
"Oh.." I leaned my head back and looked at the ceiling. Again, I felt dizzy. But I wanted to keep that to myself. But when we arrived at our place, he insisted on walking me to my apartment. For I flew up quickly as I swayed for a moment.
"Hey, I'm fine," I assured him. "No, and now off to bed with you!" Sighing, I gave in, took off my shoes and let him escort me to bed. It was strange to be still in bed in these clothes. I was much too tired to change. Venti knelt down next to me and rested a hand on my forehead. I turned my head to him and snuggled against his hand. "Your hand is pleasantly cool." I whispered and looked at him.
He remained quiet and stroked my forehead once. I know I felt safe with him.
A shiver goes down my body as a cool breeze floated over me. Venti now placed his hand on my cheek.
"You know, lately I've been forgetting what I dreamed," I began.
"Mhm."
"I can usually remember some things, though. Funny, isn't it?"
"Dreams have always been weird, but also meaningful," he smiled, releasing his hand from my cheek.
Meaningful..huh? I'm too tired to think about it any further right now. Maybe I can just close my eyes for a moment? But I want to keep looking at him..somehow.
"Your eye colors remind me of young grass in spring and the blue reminds me of the sky on a cloudless day. Venti..you have a very beautiful face.", I whispered, not taking my eyes off him.
I couldn't remember his reaction at all. That was because I had long since fallen asleep. All I saw after that was the night sky and a big tree. The view became clearer and clearer. Could I move? Yes, I could. There were little glowing butterflies flying around me. I wonder if they are actually butterflies. Where am I, anyway?
I heard grasshoppers, ducks swimming peacefully in the water around me, and the gentle wind. How peaceful.
While I don't know this place, I have a feeling I was here once. I ran into something again. I wanted to apologize, but it turned out that there was no one here but me. It was not a person. This statue.
Did I see it once? I couldn't move any further than I wanted to look at the face. I couldn't. The vision kept getting blurry. Why? After a few tries, I didn't make it again. Then I felt a slight pressure on my back. I now felt a presence, but I couldn't talk, couldn't see it, nor understand what it was telling me. Then I toppled over.
I jumped up from the bed and grabbed my chest. My heart was beating fast.
A dream? It was only a dream.
I rubbed my eyes and looked at my slightly wet fingers. Was I crying? But because of what? Wait, I was dreaming, wasn't I? What was it about? What was it? No, no, no! I held my head in frustration.
Dejectedly, I got up from the bed and washed my face with cool water. Bending over my sink, I let the water drip from my face, I felt so heavy. Then I looked at the mirror. It took me a few seconds to realize that Venti brought me here last night. In the apartment, I looked around, but he seemed to have left long ago.
In fact, my kitchen was a bit of a mess and there was a small notepad on my table. I read it.
"Here, eat something great! Because food is important." He was cooking for me. So he was here overnight? After I finished eating, I thanked him for the food, of course. But not for the mess in the kitchen he made while cooking. I cleaned everything up and visited the university in the afternoon. I was still preoccupied with what I might have dreamed last night. All I know is that it felt very real and familiar. A few scenarios were very faded in my mind. It was definitely night..wasn't it?
Maybe a couple of pictures will help me awaken my dreams? In my free time, I went to the library hoping to find something. Anything.
I brushed my hand from books to books in the history section, fantasy, lifestyle as well as psychology.
Diligently I flipped from page to page, stroking my index finger from paragraph to paragraph. And at some point I realized that I was just wasting my time after all. I put the book back on the shelf. Right, why does it engage me? What was I expecting to find, anyway? Surely it was just lucid dreaming or something, I don't know. Sometimes I didn't understand myself.
Laughing softly, I shook my head at myself. "How stupid of me..."
And in the end, I left the library empty-handed and of course, wasted time.
That night I tossed and turned a bit in bed, flipping my pillow over to the cool side and tried to fall asleep. I jerked awake as my phone vibrated. A message.
"Who needs sleep when you have wine?"
I sighed and wrote back. "You need sleep. Put down the wine."
"Change of subject! Are you looking forward to our trip?"
I actually wanted to roll my eyes when he tried to change the subject, but when he mentioned our trip, I almost slapped my forehead. That's right, it's coming up soon. Our trip to his cottage!
"Of course I do. But first comes work and all the stress..then let's see how much free time from the semester we both have."
"You're spoiling my wine! You're doing it on purpose!"
"Yep."
Really..this guy. I layed back down and looked up at the ceiling. The corner of my mouth formed into a smile.
PROLOGUE:
You have everything; the looks, the talents, the brains, and the perfect family. You are an only child, your family is known to be wealthy as your parents are both surgeons. Your parents might be busy at work, but they never failed to make you feel so loved. Little did you and your father knew, your mother was suffering from depression. You have everything — but not until she passed away. Your family became a mess and your father decided to leave and settle in another country for the both of you to move on with your lives. You were 10 years old when you moved to Canada, stayed there and studied Psychology. You are an excellent student, that's why you got accelerated and graduated earlier. Your father — he overworked himself. It's like as if you lost him as well with your mother. He still provided you with the comfortable life and everything you need, aside from attention and affection. This is why you grew up to be so reserved, an introvert, who forgot to express affection and how it felt; you became cold and heart could barely feel emotions at all. You never healed.
After you graduated, something in your mind sparked up. You ponder on things, a voice echoed in the back of your head, it was your mother's voice. She would often remind you that "life is beautiful" and that no matter what happens, always find a reason to continue and have the courage to keep going. This leads you to feeling the urge to go back home, and face everything you left there; all the memories that comes with pain, waiting for you — thinking that if you could finally and accepted what happened fully, you'll be able to overcome that burden in your heart for so long, hoping that you can live your life again. One night, without thinking, you booked yourself a flight to Korea and called your father, who's at work in the hospital, telling him you'll go back to Korea and you already made up your mind, although you know to yourself that you do not have any plans as you go back. He just agreed and said he's ask your cousin, Johnny, to pick you up and help you settle as you go back. You love your father and didn't want to leave him alone, you felt a bit of guilt, even though it seemed like he left you first. You love him but a part of you won't deny the fact that you hated him a little for almost forgetting he still has a daughter who needs him. But that's long gone, you don't need anyone anymore. You've become independent, so used to and comfortable with your own, not having the slightest need to depend on anyone.
7:00pm Seoul, South Korea
After a long flight, you finally arrived. Slowly opening your eyes as your plane landed, seeing a familiar place through the plane window where your heart beats rapidly for the first time in a while, you felt home. As you walk out the airport, your eyes instantly wandered looking for a familiar face. On the right side, you saw a hella tall guy with a wide smile plastered in his face, looking and waving at you. There he is, your older cousin Johnny waiting for you. You both aren't that close with each other since you both grew up in a different place, yet back when you were young and everything was fine, you played with each other a lot in family gatherings. He would send you messages on your birthday or holidays to greet you, you knew he's busy since he debuted as an idol. He also occasionally sends you messages asking how have you been, knowing how broke you've become after your mother's death. Seeing him again feels nostalgic and warm. You walked fast towards him and he welcomed you open arms giving you a quick yet tight hug, and you did the same as you both smiled.
"It's been a while, Y/N. You're all grown up now." He said after the hug, with a warm smile, patting your head like he used to before when you get annoyed by his teases when you were just kids. "How have you been?" He asked.
"Pretty good, hyung." You answered with a soft smile, although it's a lie. You've never been good for the past 9 years. You used to call him hyung before and not oppa for no reason. "You're the one who grew up hyung, look at you! I look like a tiny kid standing in front of you." You let out a small laugh, joking about his height as he also laughed, but quickly displayed a shocked expression in his face as he forgot something.
"Ah- by the way Y/N, i'm actually with someone here" He said as he slowly moved to his side, revealing another person standing behind him since earlier.
"This is Jaehyun, he's my member and a good friend. I asked him to come with me, you know, it's boring to drive alone" he said with a small laugh while scooting more to the side, giving you a full look on the guy he's referring to. You knew your cousin is an idol, you can sometimes saw their group's performances while scrolling through your phone, but you never really got to know about them. You had no interest, you rarely had interest in anything aside from studying. But you are so proud of your cousin just knowing that he finally fulfilled his dream.
Your eyes landed on him, you took a quick yet good look on him, enough to notice he's just wearing a casual attire with a pair of ripped jeans and a black shirt, looking so soft with his hair down.
"Hi, Y/N." He gave you a smile, and his deep dimples on the sides of his cheek did not remain unnoticed by you. Actually, it got you a little distracted; but you weren't that amazed. You've seen a lot of good looking guys back in Canada, majority of them asking you out, but you never really went out with anyone. You got no time and interest in dating, you couldn't even feel emotions by yourself.
"Hi, I'm Y/N. Nice to meet you" You said with a smile back, handing your hand over him for a hand shake. You noticed how he was staring at you with eyes you cannot explain what those meant, before he looked at your hand, back to your face. He reached his hands to meet yours.
"Me too." and the moment your hand touched, you felt how warm and soft his hands are, you felt a little flustered on how tight his hand holding yours, not tight enough to hurt tho. You held hands a little longer than the usual handshake would take, before you retreat your hand from him softly, beaming him another smile. You noticed how Johnny's eyes looked at you and Jaehyun for a couple of times with a very small smile on his mouth, almost not visible but you sort of knew what it meant. They gave each other a quick look you did not noticed as you looked at your phone to check the time.
"Y/N, it's half past 7:00, have you eaten?" Johnny asked.
"Not yet hyung. Have you? Let's go for dinner?" You replied to as he took your baggage.
"Sure! Bet you missed korean food, where do you want to eat?" Johnny asked as you walked out of the airport heading to the parking lot where his car parked. You are on the left side of Johnny, while Jaehyun is in his right side.
"Choose for me hyung, I haven't been here for almost half of my life. I could barely recall the restaurants we used to dine before" You said chuckling softly, realizing how long you've been away from the place that's supposed to be your home.
"Yeah, you never visited! You like Vancouver that much?" He said with a playful whine and you just smiled at him when you already reached the parking lot and his car. He started to put your luggage in the trunk, Jaehyun helping him.
"Nah, I didn't liked it that much, Vancouver is a great place but... nothing beats home, i guess? I just needed to stay there with no choice." You said and the last few words were said in almost a whisper. You're chuckling, but Johnny knew what you meant.
He walked to you and put his hand on the top of your head again and pat it, "Well you're here now! We'll pick up all you left and missed out, don't worry." He said, giving you an assuring smile. You gave a genuine smile back, knowing that this is the start of putting your life back into place. You sure had a lot of worries on your mind, not knowing where to even start or what to do, but all you hope for is that you don't regret coming back.
You all went to the car, you sat on the passenger seat while Jaehyun sat at the back. While choosing for a restaurant, Johnny asked Jaehyun for his suggestion and you all agreed to go on his favorite restaurant, it is a 45-minute drive from the airport but it's just fine as you can relax a bit in the car after your long flight. Johnny played relaxing music and asked you about your graduation, how have you been, and random stuffs for the first 20mins while the rest of the time he just let you rest on the seat.
Along the quite long drive, you did not fail to notice Jaehyun looking at you through the rearview mirror. You pretended you did not notice it, but you can feel his stares back and forth the mirror and your back.
JAEHYUN'S POV
Fuck. The moment I saw her walking out of the airport with that smile as she recognized Johnny, realizing she's that 'cousin' we're about to pick up, I couldn't believe my eyes. Of course I acted cool, but hell, I couldn't take my eyes off her. She's so beautiful. I felt my insides shuffle a little when I heard her voice, she sounds like an angel. I can smell her when she got close, and damn. She smells so good.
Seeing beautiful faces have become normal for me, for us in the entertainment industry, but I am lost for words for her beauty, I'm not even sure if the word beauty is enough to describe her. Her long hair just lying on her waist, wearing a pair of knee length boots and a black dress and coat, she looked perfect. How come someone out there, who's supposed to be in Korea, looking this good, just flashing right in front of my eyes just now?
What took you so long?
Those are the words on the back of my mind. She handed out her hand to me, I hesitated shortly before taking it, thinking 'am I even allowed to touch her hands?' God, she seemed like a porcelain, too fragile to touch and to beautiful to hold her hand for free. Her hand felt so soft that I don't even want to let go. I knew Johnny noticed it too, I almost lost my cool. Giving me the look, I know he understood.
i'm damned. i did not believe the idea of love at first sight, until now.
Something's Different About You Lately - Chapter 14: After the Fire
Jon has some visitors.
Note: This chapter contains a few small instances of well-meaning people touching a blind person without warning in a way that startles them.
Read on Ao3
---
He knew that he was in a hospital before he was fully awake. The texture of the stiff sheets and gown, the antiseptic smell, some indistinctly medical quality to the air filled him with the memory of wandering through distant dreams, of emerging into a cold and brightly-lit room. He came to himself gradually, slowly growing aware of an uncomfortable heaviness, of something wrapped around his face and something else restricting movement on his right side. He shifted experimentally and felt a twinge. Quietly, he groaned.
"Hey," came a voice from nearby. "You actually awake, boss? Or is this another false alarm?"
I'm not your boss anymore, Tim, he thought. Then he thought, wait a minute.
"Tim . . . ?" his voice came out hoarse and thick with grogginess. "Where – augh . . . ."
Pain shot through Jon's body as he tried to lift himself into a sitting position. He heard Tim get up and felt a careful hand on his left shoulder, guiding him back down.
"Oooh, don't do that. They've got you on the good stuff, but you're still a mess on that side. Don't be such an impatient patient."
"Where's Martin? Is he –"
"Relax, Martin's fine. Well, not fine, he's been shot, but he's doing a lot better than you. Bullet glanced off your shoulder before hitting him, tore up some muscle and fat but didn't get anything vital. He was awake before you were even out of surgery."
The hand stayed on Jon until it was clear he was going to remain still, then came away. There was an audible scrape as a chair was pulled closer, and Tim sat down again.
"We're all fine too, by the way," he added, as if offended he hadn't asked. "Just so you know."
"And . . . Jonah?"
Tim was quiet for a moment. When he spoke again, his voice was subdued.
"Didn't check if he was breathing when we left him, but he wasn't getting up," he said. "And I can't see anything coming out of that fire."
Jon lay still and tried to process it all. He wasn't sure what he should feel. What he did feel was a distant sort of unsteadiness, whether it was shock or whatever painkillers were coursing through his system, he didn't know.
"Have you been sitting up with me?" he asked.
"Don't get too big a head about it," Tim smirked. "I've only been here a bit. Sasha's come by to peek in as well, and we've visited Martin too. I was just lucky enough to be the one to see your grumpy little face when you woke up."
"Huh." Surprise and a strange melancholy rose in Jon at the thought. He smiled wryly, "and for my part, the first thing I hear on regaining consciousness is Tim Stoker's terrible puns."
"Excuse you, I am a delight to be around and my puns are charming."
Jon laughed softly, lapsing back into silence. The quiet stretched on for a while, solemnity beginning to creep in at the edges again. Then Tim spoke.
". . . You think he's actually dead?"
"Jonah? I think so. Avatars can be hard to kill, but he was very afraid of death." Jon tapped his less encumbered hand against the mattress, considering. "I think . . . if he had reached to the Eye in his last moments, it would have simply watched as his life faded away, doing what it does. Drinking in his fear."
"Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy," Tim muttered, something unsettled in his tone. "What about the circus?"
". . . Depends what you mean, I suppose." Jon tried to choose his words carefully. "I'm not the Archivist anymore, so I don't think they'd have any interest in me now. We're not protected from them, but I don't think they'd have reason to come after any of us. Unless, of course," he added pointedly. "Someone draws their interest by going after them."
"Even if we get away, they're still out there," Tim pushed, something limping in his voice, "Doing what they do to people. Am I supposed to just be okay with that?"
Jon was quiet for a while.
"If you could destroy the circus," he said softly, "which is a big ‘if', but if you could, the Stranger would continue manifesting in other forms. Possibly even as a circus again. You can't keep fear from the world, you'd only be changing details. In the end I don't know if it would save anyone."
"It would hurt those things, though. Wouldn't it?"
"Maybe," Jon said. "Maybe not. Certainly not as much as it would hurt anyone who cared about you."
It was Tim's turn to be quiet. He let out a long, frustrated sigh. "Not sure I like this new, future-memories version of you Jon," he said. "He's kind of a know-it-all."
"You should have seen me when I was literally all-knowing."
"Nightmare. Don't know how Martin put up with you."
"Neither do I." Jon smiled, warmth running through him at the thought. He took a long, slow breath. ". . . You died hating me, you know. In that other life."
"Yeah?" Tim didn't sound very surprised. "What'd you do?"
"Plenty," Jon laughed mirthlessly. "Though by the end I'm not even sure how much it had to do with me. We were lost, hurt, broken people, lashing out in fear and pain."
"Yeah. Starting to think that the Magnus Institute didn't exactly facilitate a healthy work environment."
"No . . . ."
He heard a soft, electronic tapping in the pause that followed. Maybe Tim was texting the others, letting them know Jon was awake? He couldn't tell. A gentle shove hit his uninjured shoulder, making him flinch.
"Well. Let's try not to fuck it up this time around, huh?" Tim said. "I'm gonna go get a nurse and tell them you're up, they'll probably want to check your vitals or rotate your tires or something."
"Right. Uh, right . . ." Jon stammered, "thank you."
The footsteps faded, and Jon let his head sink back onto the pillow. He felt . . . adrift. More so than he had in a while.
He'd been confused and frightened through all of this, half the time he hadn't even known what he was looking for, but at least he'd known he was looking. Even in the long, terrible walk across the nightmare domains, the constant pull of their destination had given him purpose. He'd known what he was hoping for.
And there had been Martin there. Of course.
For better or worse now, Jonah was dead and he was alive. He was severed from the Eye, the others were freed, and dark and terrible powers still lurked beyond the edge of human perception, waiting to Become.
Jon wasn't sure what he was hoping for now. He lay back and waited for the nurse to arrive.
* * *
Time passed in a haze. He had little sense of how much he slept, and the divide between sleep and waking blurred together.
Sometimes he had visitors. Georgie came in not long after Tim, having gotten a very incomplete version of events through Melanie. He hadn't exactly intended to tell her anything when she sat down, but somehow after a few confused inquiries, and a gentle "try me" or two, he found himself spilling everything. It was far more disjointed and emotional than his recounting in the tunnels, but the bulk of it seemed to get across.
When it was over, she just said, "sounds like you've had a hell of a time."
It was the calmness as much as the sympathy that affected Jon. As if he'd just told her about a bad relationship he'd gotten out of, rather than his place in the universe's nightmare cosmology and the end of the world.
He didn't know what to say to it, really, and frankly saying anything at all risked letting the tightness inside his chest come spilling out - the pressure bandage would hide any tears, but Georgie would be able to tell. She saved him by breaking the silence, asking if he had any stock tips or winning lottery numbers from the future to share.
Melanie's visits were less steadying, twice devolving into arguments. It seemed to be a constant between them, that no matter what happened or what forces were acting on either of them, their ability to rile each other was inevitable. She was also insistent that he explain every detail he remembered about what she'd begun calling the "dark timeline." When he complained that framing it as an alternate timeline was likely inaccurate and, frankly, horrifying in its implications, she threw a pen at him.
Still, she came back again afterwards. And still, he was glad that she did.
Sasha reported that her hand was healing, though when pressed admitted he'd been right about her range of motion not returning. She also helped him set the voice assistant up on his phone, which was a great relief. Though it was a bit embarrassing to reveal how little he knew about his own device's functions.
"Honestly Jon, you're only thirty-one," she said, going through some final setup that he'd already forgotten her explanation of. "You've got no excuse at all to be so tech-illiterate."
"Yes, yes. I've had other priorities lately."
"I don't mind you asking for help, understand. But what are you going to do if I get eaten by another evil table someday?"
He felt a stab of shock at the blazingly conversational reference to it. Something must have shown on his face because he heard her pause..
"Sorry. Too soon?"
"Ah. . . depends on your perspective of time, I suppose," Jon said, trying and failing to make it sound like a joke.
"Right. You know, it's all a little distant for me. Unsettling, sure, but on my end it's really just a story. . . ." she trailed off. "Hey, what were you doing in Hainault?"
"Gertrude's storage locker was there -- are you going through my location history?"
"Just the more recent stuff," she made it sound as if he was the strange one for asking, and he grunted with annoyed resignation.
"You should be careful about that."
"About what?"
"Prying into other people. Invading their privacy," he lay his head back against the pillow. "Don't forget that you were part of a temple to the Eye until very recently. You're free of the Institute now, but the power behind it might not be through with you."
She was quiet for a while. Whether it meant she was contemplating what he said or ignoring him so that she could continue digging through his phone, he couldn't say.
"All I'm saying is that it can be addicting," he continued. "That urge to push past the boundaries that people raise against you. Trust me when I say that I know."
"I'd imagine you would." She paused. ". . . What was it like?"
"What was what like?"
"Being all knowing?"
". . . Hard to describe."
There was a pause, and when it became clear he wasn't going to continue, Sasha pushed out an annoyed breath and said "well you could give it more of a shot than that."
"I don't know. Overwhelming," Jon said. "In the most complete sense of the word. Sometimes I had answers, but so few of them were helpful in the end. And the things I saw, the nightmares, the pain of everyone trapped in them. Having to watch that sort of thing, all the time . . . either it destroys you, or you learn to distance yourself. At least a little. If only to keep from breaking down. Neither is very good, but one lets you survive."
Sasha made a thoughtful humming noise.
"It isn't anything you want. Believe me," he said softly. "Even if the world hadn't ended, if I'd just been another avatar . . . any rewards aren't worth the price that others have to pay."
"Yeah," she sighed heavily. "Sounds about right."
Jon relaxed, some tension he'd been carrying in him slowly unlocking. Sasha continued.
"Well. Talking about privacy, while I'm here let me at least show you how to stop broadcasting your location to anyone and everyone," she tsked and scooted her chair closer. "Honestly. No wonder you got kidnapped all the time."
"I don't really think supernatural manifestations of fears needed GPS to find me."
"Couldn't have helped though, could it?"
"Probably not," Jon smiled sadly. "Should've had you around."
"Yeah. Can't imagine how any of you managed."
Even with his visitors, there were long stretches of time Jon spent entirely alone. Laying in the dark and the quiet, his thoughts shifting like a tide. Sometimes he'd drift back to those first years at the Institute, or the time-beyond-time after the change. Other days he'd lay contemplating the past few months, all the things that he'd re-written and the worries he still had.
Mostly he thought of very little, the twin sophorics of boredom and pain medication fogging his mind into an uncomfortable stasis.
When the knock came, he'd been listening to the soft, white noise of the air conditioning and thinking of how much it resembled distant waves, putting him in mind of a cold and empty shore. Then he heard two soft taps against the door, along with a familiar voice.
"Knock, knock," Martin said.
It was the first time he'd heard his voice since the fire, since the two of them were falling to the ground together. Without really thinking he asked, "who's there?"
"Oh! Right –" he sounded embarrassed. "Sorry, it's Martin."
"Yes, I -- ah, yes." Jon sounded pitifully eager, he knew, but he couldn't bring himself to care. "C-come in. Please."
* * *
If Jon was asleep, Martin decided, then he'd come back later. He probably needed the rest -- had needed it a good long while before they'd both been shot. Really, Martin ought to be at home resting as well. But when he knocked softly on the half open door, Jon turned in his direction, wide awake.
"Who's there?" he asked.
"Oh! Right –" stupid, he can't see you. Going to have to remember that. "Sorry, it's Martin."
Jon nodded, inviting him in and slowly shifting into a seated position as Martin pulled a chair up to his bedside.
He could see the edge of a dressing covering the bullet's exit wound, just peeking up from under Jon's collar. The bandages had been removed from his eyes, and the area around them was still a little bruised and swollen. He looked wrung out, small and tired. But then, Martin supposed, everyone looks small and tired in a hospital bed.
"How are you doing?" Jon asked, "they told me you've been recovering as well . . . ."
"Yeah, just got released this morning." He stretched, rubbing over the bandage that was hidden below his shirt and jacket. "Went home, had a shower, then came right back to the hospital."
"Sounds like an exciting day."
"What about you?"
"Mmm, still looking forward to a few days here, at least. They don't think I'll be needing more surgery, fortunately, and they're weaning me onto less intense painkillers. It's a little exhausting, but apparently I'm recovering well."
"Considering you took a bullet for me," Martin muttered.
A startled-sounding laugh came from Jon. "I'm not really sure that's what happened. More like we both got shot at the same time?"
"Suppose so," Martin said. Didn't quite feel that way, though. "Honestly, I don't even know if he was trying to shoot us at the end, or if the gun just went off when they tackled him."
"Neither would surprise me."
"But then I didn't even think he had a gun, let alone murdered people with it."
"I suspect he was desperate. He probably only resorts -- resorted to things like that when some disaster crept up on him. Like us, or like Gertrude. He wasn't the hands-on type. Which came back to bite him with the ritual. In a way it's the reason I'm here -- or, the memories are, I suppose."
"Right . . . ."
Martin had plenty of time to think about it all, laid up in his own bed on another floor of the same building. About all that happened, about the things Jon told them in the tunnels. More than anything else, it just made him feel foolish. Like he'd been left out of a conversation that had been going on behind his back, and now everyone was looking at him and expecting him to catch up.
Which was pretty foolish itself, of course. Jon hadn't told anyone the whole story -- there'd been no conversation, no loop he was kept out of. It wasn't as if ‘post apocalyptic time-traveling memories' was a conclusion he could have somehow come to if he'd just paid closer attention. It was a ridiculous way to feel.
Sasha had told him, between games of dominoes, that she was glad he'd been there that night because she didn't think anyone else could have talked Jon out of his plan. Which was a lot to unpack, but didn't help with the sense of being out of the loop. Not if it was that obvious. Of course, she might have just been trying to make him feel useful. The way he saw it, he hadn't done much that evening except quietly panic, shout a bit and get held at gunpoint. And get shot. And get Jon shot with him, because he'd stood in front of him.
"I'm sorry . . . ." Martin said, softly.
". . . For what?"
"I saw what was happening, just before the gun went off. I could have pulled you away if I was faster, or thrown us to the ground, or done something. Instead I just froze."
"Martin . . ." Jon tilted his head in his direction. "Even assuming you could have been fast enough, most people freeze up when a gun is pointed at them. I did the same the first few times."
". . . First few times." Martin repeated flatly. "Jesus, Jon."
"I know. It's been a difficult few years."
"I didn't even know . . . ."
"I didn't want you to know," Jon said. "I couldn't tell any of you, Martin, not until everything was ready. You saw how close things came as it was, if he'd gotten wind of things sooner . . . ."
"Right . . . of course."
The two of them fell into an uncertain silence. Jon's hand worried at a thread on the edge of the bedsheet, twisting and twirling it between his fingers. Martin thought about that hand moving slowly and smoothly over his own, about the sorrow on Jon's face when he'd pulled away. Doubt anyone else could've talked him out of it, Sasha's voice repeated in his mind.
"About what you said. In the tunnels . . . ."
Jon visibly tensed, the edge of the sheet twisting in his fingers. "Er . . . which part?"
"The part about me," Martin said, praying that would be enough, that Jon wasn't going to make him actually repeat the words. "About us?"
"Ah. Right," he smiled weakly. "Funny how much easier it is to say these things when you think you're not going to be alive much longer."
"You were really going to tell me that and then go off to die a minute later, weren't you?" There was something quiet in Martin's voice as he spoke. Calm. Like the eye of a hurricane.
"I . . ." Jon hesitated, then nodded. "Yes."
"Bit rude."
". . . Suppose it was."
Martin went quiet. What could he say to that, to any of it? It wasn't as if he didn't get it, insecurity only goes so far when there's a declaration that explicit. He knew what I love you meant, he just . . . felt like he'd only now joined the conversation.
Before the silence could grow too powerful, Jon spoke again.
"We were together. In that other life. By the end of it, at least. I --" he laughed softly. "It took me too damned long to even realize my own feelings, let alone imagine that -- but we were together."
I can't watch that happen again, he'd said. Martin had more or less guessed that was the situation, but it was still strange to hear it confirmed. Surreal to think that Jon had a history with him, or a version of him, that he wasn't a part of.
"Were we happy?"
Jon was quiet for a while before answering. "I -- I'd like to say we were. I don't know if happy is a word I can use. At first we were in hiding, and then after the Change it was . . . well, it was a nightmare. But we had each other, and that made all the difference. And --"
He took an unsteady breath. "I think I was happier in those desperate weeks we had before the world ended than I'd honestly been in years? And there were times I'd see you in that cabin, and you'd be complaining about something, or humming while we cleaned and laughing to yourself. And you'd look different somehow, and it felt like -- there was a part of you that had been tucked away in all the time I'd known you, that was letting itself breathe again, and I was so lucky to be allowed to see it," he laughed lowly. "Or maybe all that was me projecting. Maybe I was the fool who should have paid better attention before. I don't know."
Martin tried to picture himself tucked into some remote hideaway, hiding from sinister supernatural monsters but relaxed enough to be humming and laughing while they tidied up. Tried to imagine what Jon could be referring to, how he'd been different and whether that was a good or bad thing, even. He found that he couldn't do either.
"What was he like?" he asked. "That other me."
A soft smile spread through Jon. "He was like you, Martin. A little older . . . a great deal more tired. More short-tempered, or maybe just more vocal about it," he added with fondness. "He was brave, and frustrating, and . . . and wonderful. Just wonderful."
". . . Sounds like quite a guy." Martin managed.
Jon nodded. Then the smile slipped from him, and his hands came together in his lap,
"I know that you aren't him. That is -- you are, in a sense you're the same person, but you also aren't?" he gestured outward. "Our experiences, they shape who we are, they change us. I know that."
". . . Right."
A part of him had suspected something like this might be coming, and he shouldn't have gotten his hopes up. It still hurt, and he felt guiltily relieved that Jon couldn't see his face just now.
"I just . . ." Jon continued, "I don't want you to think, ah, that I expect anything--"
"No, I get it." Martin tried to smile, tried to sound like every word wasn't twisting in him. "I probably remind you of him? And -- heat of the moment, you thought you were gonna die. I get it. I don't expect anything either."
Jon frowned, looking momentarily confused.
"I know I'm not him, like, it's not the same," Martin continued, clearing his throat. "It doesn't have to be a thing, you know, if you don't want--"
"Martin." Jon cut him off. "I meant every word I said down there. I still do."
The words dried up in Martin's throat as Jon continued.
“I love you. Just as much as I always have. I still want to have a life with you, and I’m still terrified of that life being torn from us. And I don’t know how you feel about me, but I know -- even if any, ah, feelings are returned, I--” He took a deep breath, “What I feel for you, it’s, well, it’s a lot? There are so many things I’ve been through with you that you haven’t been through with me, and that’s good, I’m glad you haven’t been through them because they were mostly horrible. But I can’t deny that many of them brought us closer --”
“Jon . . . .”
“And -- and I don’t want to scare you off with the -- the intensity of my feelings but I’d understand and I wouldn’t blame you --”
Martin reached out and put a hand on Jon’s arm. The flurry of movement and talk came to a sharp standstill.
“Jon,” he said again.
“Oh. Um,” Jon’s voice was small and quiet. “Oh.”
". . . I don’t know how I’m different from the Martin you remember. And I don’t know how he felt about you, or how what I feel is different,” he said slowly. “All I know is that when you said you were going to go off to find a quiet corner and kill yourself, it felt like the whole world was falling apart.”
Jon was still under his hand, barely breathing.
“Don’t do it again.”
Quietly, Jon nodded. Martin pulled his hand away, settling back into the chair. For a while neither of them said anything,
“I mean, listen . . .” Martin finally broke the silence, shrugging uncertainly. “I’m willing to give it a try if you are?”
An unsteady sound came out of Jon, his hand flew up to cover his mouth and when he pulled it away he was smiling. "I -- I'd like that. Very much," he said.
"Okay." Martin smiled back, feeling airy, lightheaded. "Cool." He laughed. "Getting shot together'll make a hell of a first date."
"Wh-- that was not a first date!" Jon protested, his own laugh coming out sharp and startled, "that was a -- a terrifying escape from our sinister employer."
"Kind of romantic though, right?" Martin teased, "in a bad action movie sort of way."
"Everything else aside, I refuse to entertain the idea that our first date involved Jonah Magnus in any respect," he shuddered, shaking his head. "Though it -- it honestly may be a while before I'm up for anything much better. I'll still be in the hospital a bit, and afterwards . . . well, I know there's a lot I'm going to have to adjust to."
Martin felt a twinge at Jon's voice, at the anxiety creeping back into it. ". . . You won't have to do it alone," he said.
Smiling weakly, Jon reached a hand over the hard plastic rail meant to keep patients from falling out of bed. Martin took it and squeezed. Jon nodded and let go, settling back.
"There's still so much . . ." he said. "So much you don't even know . . . about us, and about other things."
"You could tell me now, you know. If you wanted."
Jon paused, looking uncertain. "Are you sure you want to hear it? I don't know what you're expecting but it's not going to be some sort of --- pleasant office romance. It's just a series of horrible, traumatic experiences, one after another."
It was a fair question, really, and Martin thought about it before answering.
"I want to hear it," he said. "If you're okay talking about it, that is. I want to know what you've been living with all these months. And . . . I want to know more about that other life. Even if it's all just awful."
Slowly, Jon nodded. "All right . . ." he said, "but it really is a very long story. It's going to take a while."
"I don't have anything on today," Martin smiled, standing up. "I'll go and get us some tea."
AUctober day 21: academia
read on ao3
There’s a boy in Will’s Intro to Writing class, and Will is in love with him.
Maybe love isn’t the right word, but he’s definitely encased by this guy. He has dark hair, dark eyes, and he’s way smarter than everyone in the class which is something Will can seriously respect.
Every day at 2pm he logs on, never really quite sure what’s going on in the class because he’s too curious about what he’s wearing or if Will can get some sort of idea as to who his roommate is.
In a normal circumstance, Will would consider maybe introducing himself, or at least trying to catch this kid at the dining hall. For now, though, he’s stuck staring at him through his tiny computer screen.
This whole Zoom class thing limits what he can learn about this kid, especially since he only has two things hung up in the background of his call: a pride flag and a poster for a card game Will has never seen.
All Will can know about him, for now, is his name is Nico, he’s gay, and he’s really, really hot.
Which is enough for him to already be falling.
And by some ungodly power, his friends already knew, too.
Will’s roommate, Connor Stoll, probably figured out the day he just so happened to walk past Will’s desk just as the blonde had pinned Nico’s screen to his computer (he was just trying to get a better look at what his shirt said.)
“Stalker much?” had been the only thing he remarked. Of course, less than a week later and he was already getting advice on how to ask Nico out from Connor and his boyfriend, Mitchell.
“I don’t even know him,” Will points out, to which Connor responds with, “You know him enough to care about what’s written on his shirt.”
He rolls his eyes. “That was a one time thing.”
“Trust me, Will. If I managed to get this one to ask me out, I think you can ask out someone,” Mitchell said, slugging Connor lightly in the shoulder who only nods proudly.
When that hadn’t turned out to be much helpful (Will isn’t exactly the best at just doing things,) he opts to ask Lou Ellen and Cecil, the two kids he had met in the first week of classes
They had been introduced when the teacher put them in breakout rooms to get to know each other in small groups. Will knew both already vaguely: Lou was also in his Chemistry class, and Cecil lived on his floor.
The three ended up bonding over their shared love of Star Wars and inevitably made a group chat together to share homework answers for the class or discuss whatever the weekly drama was that they were able to catch bits and pieces of. Turns out life is just as eventful even when everybody is stuck to their own dorms.
Will had barely been able to get two words out to them on FaceTime before Lou interrupts him.
“You need help asking out Nico from our writing class, don’t you?”
Will just blinks. “How did you know?”
“Because you mention every day what he talked about in class today.”
“I do?”
“Yeah, and you asked me if I knew what floor he lived on,” Cecil adds. “I was betting on murder, maybe, but once Lou Ellen told me it was probably a crush it made a little more sense.”
Will shakes his head. “I’m gonna choose to ignore the murder part.”
“I sent Mitchell after you. Isn’t he supposed to be a love expert or something?” Lou Ellen asks.
“That was you? I thought that was just Connor oversharing his roommate drama with his boyfriend!”
“You really think Connor has enough brain cells to do all that? The kid can barely remember what he has for breakfast most days,” Lou rolls her eyes. “Look, the best case scenario, he’s your soulmate and you guys get married and have a million kids.”
“I don’t even know if I want kids-”
“Fine, dogs, whatever. Worst case scenario, classes are all online this semester and you literally just don’t look at his face for the rest of the year.”
It’s a good point, and Will really is seriously considering it now, but there’s still one thing standing in the way.
“Okay, well, it’s not like I can really ask him out,” Will points out. “We’re barely allowed to leave our dorms, and I don’t know if a Zoom first date is the best idea.”
“Then just figure out a way to get his number. That way, you two can talk, and when this whole quarantine thing is over then you’ll be close enough that you can finally go on a date,” Cecil suggests.
Both Will and Lou Ellen nod enthusiastically.
“Cecil, that might be the smartest thing I’ve ever heard you say,” Lou says dreamily.
“Now we just have to figure out a way for Will to get the balls to actually do it.”
Will gasps, fake hurt. “I’ll figure it out, thank you very much.”
They continue discussing their plan before Lou Ellen inevitably notices that they’re in fact, 15 minutes late to Intro to Writing.
As the three scramble into the Zoom meeting at the same time, Will may or may not notice Nico bite back a laugh. He decides being late was worth it.
When Will’s teacher put him and Nico in a breakout room together, Will knew this was probably his chance.
That is until he has to go and make a fool of himself.
“I like your duck tree,” is the first thing Nico says when they enter the room, referencing the mini fake Christmas tree (even though both him and Connor are Jewish) that’s covered in all sorts of rubber ducks behind him. It was their 3am creation after moving into the dorm, which featured a midnight run to the dollar store and two noise complaints from their neighbors.
And, because Will can’t take anything seriously, he makes the mistake of talking.
“Thanks,” he says, then before he can stop himself, “Did you know they have curly dicks?”
Nico snorts. “What?”
Realizing what he said, Will just has to push through. “The ducks. It’s like a corkscrew shape.”
“Ah, gotcha,” Nico nods. “Is that your topic for your paper?”
Maybe explaining himself wasn’t a good idea.
“Nope, just, uh, something I learned in Biology when I was a freshman.”
Nico nods again. “Cool. So what is everyone’s topic?”
Yup, he blew it. Asking Nico out might take another decade now, or however long it takes for Will to regain his dignity after that interaction.
It’s another few weeks before Will actually sees Nico in person for the first time.
Ever since their breakout room conversation, he had only interacted with the boy if it was for class. Slowly but surely, he was healing from that mess of a first introduction.
That, of course, all went out the window after Will nearly ran straight into him on the way to his dorm after spending the weekend with Lou Ellen at her parent’s house. Meanwhile, Nico must have been on his way out.
Will almost didn’t recognize him when they bumped into each other, too panicked about running straight into someone he didn’t know. Once he recognized the wavy black hair and olive-toned skin, he knew immediately who it was.
Nico was shorter than he had thought he would be, almost a whole half foot smaller than Will, but that didn’t make him any less attractive. In fact, he was so, so much cuter in person than over a screen.
“Hey,” Nico grins. “Duck penis kid.”
Will ran straight into that one.
“I have a name, you know,” he narrows his eyes. “And like, actual interests.”
“Besides ducks and their breeding habits?”
“Yes, besides that. I wouldn’t exactly consider that an interest.”
Nico raises an eyebrow as if he’s skeptical, but his smile gives it all away.
“Well, I do know your name, William,” he says, and Will nearly passes out right then and there. “Do you know mine?”
“It says your name on Zoom, Nico,” he responds as casually as he possibly can. “And it’s- it’s just Will, actually.”
“That’s not what it says on your Zoom name.”
“Well, that’s-” Will flushes. “That’s because I don’t know how to change it.”
“Well, I guess you'll have to remind me to teach you if we’re ever in a breakout room together again,” Nico laughs. “I’ll see you around, Will.”
He heads off, and before he can stop himself, Will calls after him.
“Wait!”
Nico spins on his heel at the bottom of the next staircase, looking up at him with those dark eyes. For a moment, Will completely forgets what he wants to say.
“Um, would you want to, uh, play GamePigeon sometime over iMessage?” he offers. It was the ‘foolproof’ invitation that Lou Ellen had come up with, considering it’s something they did on a near-daily basis.
“Intro to Writing isn’t the most interesting class— well, maybe you think it is, I don’t know— but maybe, if you want a distraction one day…?” he continues, trailing off hopefully at the end.
Nico winces. “Oh, uh, I don’t have an iPhone, sorry,” he says, holding up his Samsung as proof. There are two little charms hanging off the phone case: a small rainbow and a skull, which makes Will melt a bit. Unfortunately, it doesn’t help his case at all.
“Oh, okay, then can I maybe get your number? Just… in general?”
Nico grins, raising his eyebrow again. “Are you asking me out, Solace?”
Will fights the heat creeping to his cheeks at the use of his last name. “Um, yes? If you want? We can’t really go out right now, Nit we could just talk? See if we work as friends and then maybe reconsider that date thing if you’re up for it? Because, uh, I think you’re cute, and we’re both queer, and I noticed your Ramones shirt the other day which is super cool because my dad introduced me to that band, so there’s something we have in common. And, uh, we can talk about whatever else you’re into, but I just thought I would take my chance because I’m into… you,” he rambles out.
Nico just blinks, and Will wonders if this was the best or dumbest decision he’s ever made.
“Or… or not,” he adds on, just in case.
Nico laughs, which is totally adorable, but also totally activates Will’s fight or flight. Before he can escape to his dorm, though, Nico holds out his hand.
“Solace, please,” he says, still in the same light, laugh-y tone. It takes a second to activate in Will’s brain that he’s asking for his phone to put his number in.
Oh.
Will steps down the staircase until he’s at the same level as Nico, pulling his phone out of his bag and handing it to the boy.
Nico stares at it. “Uh, you might want to put your passcode in first.”
“Right, right, sorry,” Will takes it back, unlocking his phone and finding the contacts app so Nico can put in his number.
This time when he hands it back, he’s smiling again.
“See you in the Zoom call,” he tells Will, before turning the corner around the staircase, and Will realizes he should probably get back to his dorm if he wants to make his 7:00 Chem class.
It isn’t until he’s back in his room, listening to his professor drone on about chemical properties when he finally opens his phone. He taps on the contacts app, just checking to make sure the entire interaction wasn’t a fever dream.
Just as he expected, a new number is embedded in his contacts. Nido di Angelo. Next to the name, the duck emoji and the eggplant emoji.
Yeah, he was never going to live that down.
