One minute I hate you for all of
the pain you put me through.
Then the next, I’m stuck here wishing
I could hear your voice and lay in your
arms one last time.

Behind your empty eyes
lies a pained inner child,
whose only wish is to be
genuinely loved.

You want my heart?
So do I.
You want to cradle it in both hands?
I want to wrap both of my murderous palms around it and squeeze until it's gasping for air.
I want to ask it why it curses me by feeling so deeply.
Why it leads me into situations and love so blindly.
I want to curse at it for all the times it did me wrong, for all the times it shattered and left me alone to piece it all back together.
You want my heart to let you in?
So do I.

You listen to the melody
of a heart; a heart that is not
your own, then proceed to wonder
why you’re so out of sync with
the only one that matters.

I saw sparks fly between us,
like shooting stars falling through the blanket of night.
I thought it was beautiful, these small sparks and stars.
Though as I focused on the small few that flew in front of me,
I failed to see the bigger picture.
The warning signs. The sirens.
The meteor shower raining down its fury, and the sparks
that were instead part of a looming wall of fire.
This whole time,
I thought you were indulging in mellow sunset hues,
but instead you were only seeing red.

I feel far away.
Floating in an empty void.
I’m present, physically, but my conscience is elsewhere.
Strolling leisurely through a forest of trees hugged by the warmth of the sun.
I feel like an outsider to my own body.
Almost as if this body was never meant to be mine.

Though we’re apart
you will always be with me,
haunting every corner of my mind
until the day I take my last breath.
Only then, will I finally be free of you.

If I’m the villain in your recount
because I found the courage to
stand up for myself, then so be it.
For it says more about your character
than what it says about mine.

I’m the one who got up and left.
Yet, some days I sit here and
grieve as if it was you who did.

Until you learn to wholeheartedly accept the love you give to yourself, you may never entirely accept the love given to you by others or believe that you are worthy of it. You deserve back the love you give out to everyone else.
Self love and care is just as important. Share your love around, but make sure to include yourself in that circle too.

the story of us. Neither one of us
deserved such a painful ending.
