Acouasm (n.) a ringing noise in your head
Synopsis: When your relationship with Kim Taehyung goes public, a walk down the red carpet turns south when you are attacked.
Notes: I had so much to write in this fic but it ended up being sub par and I wanna release it on V’s birthday, so I’ll probably work on another one similar to this situation. I even had another draft but I thought it was too gorey and violent 🥲 Anyways HAPPY BIRTHDAY V! Enjoy reading and thank you so much for liking my past oneshot Saudade.

Your relationship with BTS’ Kim Taehyung had a long story.
You came from the same highschool and had been acquainted before, though you hadn’t interacted apart from a few glances in the halls. He was a few years older than you and Korean Arts High School was populated with soon to be popular faces, so you didn’t expect him to remember much about you. However, that didn’t stop you from having a massive crush on him as he seemed to be way different from his fellow BigHit trainee, Jimin.
Taehyung was more reserved and usually kept to a close knit of friends during school hours, though everyone seemed to know him and he knew everyone. He didn’t have any official relationships with anyone during highschool, yet it wasn’t like he was coined a loser. He was oh so much your type, though your crush on him didn’t last long after he graduated.
You knew he debuted in a boy group with his friend Jimin, and that was as far as you knew about his whereabouts. You didn’t have time to worry about him when you were already facing some difficulties in your own life at that time.
You were picked up by a more trustable agency in your third year of highschool. They were adamant on debuting a girl group and you were determined to be a part of that, so you trained harder than you have ever trained, worked harder than you’ve ever worked, and you finally got your pay off when you debuted three years after.
It was 2017 and your debut went smoothly. You weren’t an instant flop, though you weren’t an instant pop either. However, with enough work in producing three albums for your first year, you managed to come through and win the Mama 2017 Best New Artist Award.
Winning an award and enjoying your time performing songs and watching the other idol groups perform in the 2017 Mnet Asian Music Awards also meant that you would make a few new friends during the event. Your group had to switch seats often during the first half, so you had a lot of interactions with other groups. Coincidentally, landing seats right in front of a particularly cheery idol group for the rest of the night.
“Bangtan Sonyeondan! Congratulations!” The woman speaks onto the microphone as the group of boys behind you cheered and gathered into a group hug before they all started making their way out to the stage, and a specific pair of bright eyes catches yours as he passes by. Kim Taehyung.
You didn’t hold back a smile when you realized it was his group who had won a daesang. You clapped your hands even louder to congratulate him as he bows to you and your group and fixes his blonde hair that was held back by a cloth headband.
Later that night when a message from him surprised you. It turns out a director had forwarded your KakaoTalk to him after he asked, and he had made the time to message you despite the fact that they should be celebrating after their win by now.
A few messages at night had turned into friendly calls when no one was around. It was damn obvious that he was interested in you and you couldn’t say that your highschool crush on him had gone away after all these years. He was charming and he understood the struggles of being an idol.
When you and your bandmates would fight then he would drop anything to message or call you to listen to you vent. When he was having a particularly rough time with his schedules, he made sure that you would know and yet still made time to check up on you. Both of you would even be preparing for a comeback at the same time, and yet both of you supported each other through all of it. He was a rock you could lean on and you were an ear for him to rant to.
Soon after, you started hanging out with each other in your free time. It wasn’t a date or anything of the sorts. He just so happens to want to buy something when you would go on errands. He would joke that a popular idol like you shouldn’t be grocery shopping alone despite the fact that he was in fact more popular than you, though you never held jealousy over that fact. You were actually proud of him and his group after you learned of their earlier hardships, and you were even prouder when he would vent to you about their contract problems early 2018.
You two would try new coffee spots together and even watch the new Marvel movies together. Taehyung was certain that Doctor Strange was his favorite Marvel superhero because of his amazing cape, and didn’t hide that fact when he went on an interview in LA that asked him about it. You two even commented on each other’s interviews from time to time since you were both learning English and you two found it helpful to learn from each other.
And don’t start about how you couldn’t take your eyes off of him during Mama 2018, not when you two were on a call the night before he got his hair colored and you sent him a picture of the brightest pink you could see on Google to dare him into changing his hair that same hue. It was a funny joke, yet he called you the night after with the same hue on his hair. You would watch the American movie Trolls together through the call that night and his nickname on KakaoTalk would be changed for the very first time to ‘Poppy Imposter’ alluding to the pink haired Troll in the movie.
After a year of steadily getting closer and calling each other friends, he finally confessed to you. You knew he liked you and he knew that you knew he liked you, yet it still seemed like your heart was palpitating out of your chest. He didn’t kiss you. He simply stated a fact and said that he wanted to court you, and God did you fall for him even harder.
When he asked you out on a first date, he also asked for your parents’ permission. He made sure to make it known that he was serious about you and you were sure that this man couldn’t do anything more to make you fall for him more.
He was such a romantic. He made sure everything was done how it should be. He made sure to pick you up for your date with a bouquet of flowers for you and your mother. He made sure to greet your parents by the front door. He assured your father that he would keep you safe and take you home by your curfew. Despite the fact that you were a full-grown adult and had your own apartment to go home to. He opened the door of his car for you and he pulled the chair of the fancy restaurant for you. He was a true gentleman, and it didn’t take more than five months for you to answer him.
Both your companies knew of your affairs. Taehyung wasn’t exactly quiet about you and you can’t say no to him when he would ask you to go on a late night walk with him whenever you were in the same city. Your companies would help payout any media networks that saw you two in your public dates, though that didn’t stop other idols from gossiping about your relationship. It was getting harder for them to contain you two especially when he went on longer promotion stints outside Korea, and your appearance near his apartment anytime BTS arrived in Korea didn’t go unnoticed. You were two lovers deeply in love, and it got worse during Mama 2019.
“You’re up in ten minutes ladies!” A stage director yells to the hallway over the chaos of staff around us. You and your group were about to enter the dark backstage to prepare for the penultimate performance of the evening, right before BTS.
You had seen your boyfriend and his group leave the artist area earlier, though it seemed like they weren’t going to the waiting rooms directly. You just hoped he could watch your performance on his phone. Despite already seeing each other’s performances during rehearsals.
“Wait! Don’t go up yet! The backstage is still not ready!” Another staff member yelled as an older member tried to make a move to get inside the backstage.
You sigh as the crowded and loud surroundings begin to make you nervous. You could feel sweat gathering on your forehead as a makeup artist tried to dry it down. How long were they going to announce the awards?
The makeup artist by your side leaves to fix up your other members and you take the opportunity to find something in the hallway to keep your attention on. The more you could distract yourself from the chaotic environment the better, so you looked down both sides of the hallway and watched props and staff pass by.
There in the busy and harshly lit hallway was your messy haired boyfriend with a bright red cardigan, that he specifically wore for you to notice him in the crowd of idols, push past the crowd to look for you. His bandmates seemed to get inside their own waiting room to prepare whilst Jimin and Jungkook waited by the door to watch him find his way to you. His overgrown and curled hair was doing nothing to help him find you, though once his eyes met yours at the end of the hallway, you could feel a smile creep onto your cheeks.
“Hey!” Taehyung greets as he walks a few more steps to stand in front of you. He brushes his hair aside and shows you his warm brown eyes, void of any colored contact lenses. His smile was bright as you notice sweat on his forehead.
“Good luck out there. You’re going to kill it, I swear.” Taehyung cheers as you smile at him and nod. He reaches to hold both your hands as you only realize that they were shaking when his gentle and steady ones encapsulates them.
“I should be the one calming you down. You have five songs to do!” You say with a chuckle as he chuckles with you and brings your hands to kiss its knuckles. His lips hover a little longer over your left ring finger, though you don’t notice.
“I perform five songs, but I’m not the popular worldstar that South Korea votes as number one on the most beautiful female artists.” Taehyung says with a shrug as a more boisterous laugh comes out of you.
“Okay, and you talk as if you aren’t internationally known for a handsome face.” You throw back as Taehyung rolls his eye and lets go of one of your hands to throw his hair out his face and show you one nasty pimple that had been growing on his forehead. He had actually been pulling back his dermatologist and facial appointment, so that he could do both of them with you. He wanted to keep your dates ‘unique’ he says.
“Don’t show that around here Tae! You’re going to get exposed!” You scolded as he laughed and shook his head to glance at the even more incriminating position you both were in. Closely standing next to each other with your hands held together and both your eyes shimmering with that profound love. If someone was to take a picture to expose you two then could they send it to him too because he wants to take this moment and make it his phone’s lock screen.
“Taehyung! You have to get ready!”
“Y/N! We can enter the backstage already!”
Both your bandmates say at the same time, though neither of your eyes fall to look away from each other.
“I love you. Be careful in performing and don’t be nervous. You’re amazing and always will be.” Taehyung says as his soft hands grab hold of your jaw to direct your lips to his. The kiss was soft and ended quickly, though the energy and ease it gave you was a pill that made you feel like you could do everything you put your mind to.
“I love you too. Be careful in your performance too. I know you’ll do great already. I might miss the first part of it though, since they won’t let us out immediately after.” You pouted as Taehyung chuckled and pecked a kiss on your forehead whilst rubbing your shoulder to assure you that he didn’t mind.
“I can’t even watch yours live. I have to watch it in the waiting room, but I’ll make sure to cheer for you just as much. We’ll watch the replay later on the TV anyways. My place and some good takeout?” Taehyung proposes as you were always welcome to a night at his place.
“We’ll see if you aren’t blackout drunk from the celebrations.” You chuckled as you were slowly inching away from your lover. You can hear your leader call out to you multiple times already and your manager was coming down the hall, so you really had to close this off.
Thankfully, Taehyung only laughed and let you go. He even waved to you as you disappeared backstage. He wasn’t going to get drunk tonight, perhaps tipsy, but he would much rather remember a night with you than drink. He wasn’t much of an alcohol fan anyways. A glass of wine with you seemed much more his taste.
And that was what ended up happening. The two of you sprawled out on his sofa at six in the morning. Takeout food littered the coffee table along with glasses of wine and a replay of your MMA performances.
After the event, the two of you parted ways to go to separate afterparties for a few hours before you both excused yourselves and got to Taehyung’s apartment. You two had laughed over some funny playbacks that you missed during the event, and you celebrated on your own two ways.
Taehyung had brought you out to his balcony when he saw the sun rising. He felt like a true winner as he watched you bury yourself in his hoodie under a thick blanket on his balcony’s couch. The silence engulfing you two as sleep ate away at your high. Events like the Mnet Asian Music Awards and Melon Music Awards always had your sleeping schedules messed up, though he didn’t mind. How could he mind when the award shows were the reason why he had seen your beauty in the first place.
He thinks that even if you weren’t there in MAMA 2017 then he would have still fallen in love with you some other way. He believes that in different dimensions he still finds a way to find you and love you. He always will, and there was no universe out there that Kim Taehyung existed without you.
“Hey… look at me.” Taehyung breaks the silence as you turn to face him. The sky was only beginning to get lighter, though you were both still enclosed in darkness and the warm lights he had around his balcony.
“I would have never thought that the sophomore I saw in the hallways during break would have me wrapped around their finger in five years time. I would have never thought that the all-rounder of the girl group who won best new artist in MAMA 2017 would have me asking multiple staff members for her number. But what I now know is that I love this sophomore and I love this all-rounder. I love you. I love you so much, and I know for a fact that there is no one else I could love this much. Kim Taehyung in other realities always falls in love with Y/L/N Y/N and I don’t need to be Doctor Strange to know that. So…” Taehyung pauses as he stands up and grabs a box from his sweatpant’s pocket.
You were staring at him in shock and awe as you processed his words whilst trying to process his movements. You two were too young to get married. He knew that and you two had jokingly discussed that, so what the hell was he doing?!
“I’m not proposing. Don’t worry.” Taehyung chuckles as he bends both his knees to crouch on the floor and presents you with a cream box. He opens it to reveal two gorgeous Bvlgari Couple Rings. Both were of the color silver, though one was littered with gems and the other was plain.
Taehyung places the box on the table in front of the couch as he takes the ring littered with gems and softly reaches for your hand just like earlier. He takes your left hand and kisses the knuckle right above your ring finger as he looks up at you with doe eyes. The sun’s rays appeared higher up the horizon now and its soft hues colored his face perfectly.
“I want you to take this promise ring because with this you hold the promise of my heart forever loving yours. All my beauty and imperfections. My tight schedule and long rants. My overly romantic and cringey actions and my eyes that look for you in every crowd.” Taehyung says and a stinging sensation catches up to your eye.
“It will also keep your finger warm until the time I propose to you and marry you, so… will you—“ Taehyung’s slight joking and following question was cut off by your voice cracking. He looked back up to you after eyeing your bare finger and you had tears in your eyes. His eyes immediately fogging as it copies yours.
“Yes. Yes, Tae.” You nod your head to help rid your eyes of tears as Taehyung slips the silver ring through your ring finger and a happy tear slides down his cheek.
“And you, Taehyung. I want you to keep this promise ring until the time I marry you because God knows I’ll save up for a really expensive ring.” You joke as Taehyung laughs boisterously. You reach out for his left hand and take the remaining silver ring.
“I love you so much, baby. I’ve always loved you.” You say as you slid the ring through his fingers and something in your heart locks with security. It was as if life was completed with a simple ring even if it was just a promise ring.
You two had tear stains on your cheeks from happiness and Taehyung immediately stood up, farring you along with him, and brought you in for a deep and passionate kiss on the lips. His lips soft against yours as it held so much love for one another.
When you two parted you simply rested each other’s foreheads against one another as the sun fully rose from slumber. The sun’s light encapsulates the two of you in its beauty and peace. If only someone could take a picture of this moment right now…

Everything changed after these leaks. Both your management team had reached the agreement to put some space between the two of you to avoid any more evidence that could support the strong claim of your relationship. This meant lesser visits to Taehyung’s compromised apartment and lesser events where your group and BTS could have any interactions.
You barely saw Taehyung now and it felt like you had been thrusted back in time to when you were both getting to know each other and only calling and texting each other at night. Back then it felt like the right amount of time to spend with him, but now it felt too little. You missed him and not being able to see each other for months even when you were both in the same city hurts. You felt so close, yet so far.
BTS had also started growing internationally and Taehyung was spending more time abroad. Especially with their Map of The Soul world tour. You had your world tour too, but you two always made the effort to see each other once a month at most. Now, you barely saw each other in three months.
You didn’t understand why they needed you two to be separated after the rumors. There were always rumors in the Kpop world and they had always managed to payout news outlets, so why this ridiculous rule now? It was making you more and more frustrated by each meeting that you asked them to stop.
It all came to a breaking point in late September 2020. It had been ten months and the BTS world tour had ended in September, yet Taehyung and you hadn’t even seen each other since the summer. You were sick and tired of it and your latest comeback failing to reach the charts had stressed you out immensely.
“You know the question I’m about to ask.” You said coldly as your management team didn’t spare you a glance. Your general meeting had ended and though the other members and staff were still in the same room you didn’t stop yourself from speaking your mind.
“And you know what the answer is to it always.” Your lead manager says as you close your eyes to stop any tears from falling down your cheeks.
You were exhausted. You were exhausted from not making it to the charts and feeling as though all your hard work had turned out to be a failure, and you knew that perhaps a small break to be with Taehyung could fix you up nicely. A cuddle and a kiss could boot you right up to start producing and writing songs again. His touch could ease all your sore muscles and his voice humming songs to you could free your ears from the annoying buzz in your ear. A buzz that you think came from the amount of time you spent sampling beats in the studio, and then listening to the same beats during dance practice. Your head was a mess and you could only hear music through a broken filter.
“It’s been ten months…” You say quietly, though the founder of the company abruptly stands up and slaps his hand on the table.
“We can’t risk it!” He sounded angry as his loud voice shushes everyone.
“All of you! We can’t risk it, and you better listen before I put all of you on a dating ban!” He threatens as collective anger boils between all of you girls. You knew that each and every one of you had committed relationships, so there was no way in any universe would you agree to a dating ban.
“What the hell?! You can’t do that so abruptly! What’s really going on? Why is everyone so tense?!” Your leader speaks up as all staff members quiet down and the room is filled with silence. The clock on the wall could be heard ticking and if you really listened in, you would hear your own patience decreasing with each click.
“We’re nearing bankruptcy, okay?! Your album flopped, we’re losing sponsors, and I can’t afford paying out the media for your issue, okay?!” Your boss snaps as he seems to be on the verge of breaking down.
All your group members were at the same amount of shock as you were, though every
“How much time do we have?” Your leader asks as your boss breathes in a heavy sigh.
“6 months at most. We’re reducing staff and we can push for one more studio album. If it doesn’t chart then we’re done. I’m sorry.”
You left the meeting that evening with tears in your eyes and your head feeling agitated. How could they keep this very important news from you and the girls?! This was your job and your future. You had the right to know what was internally happening. Now, all of you had to give your best for the new comeback or else you would be left jobless.
This fury of emotions in you was getting overwhelming and as soon as you arrived in your apartment you called Taehyung for some comfort. Perhaps you could even see each other tonight. A good takeout dinner and a few kisses and cuddles could fix you right up for the new comeback.
“Hey babe, I’m at a shoot right now.” Taehyung answers the phone as you nodded and mentally noted that he would probably be called to hang up on you at any moment.
“Hey…What time do you end?” You asked meekly before you cleared your throat and leaned on your kitchen counter with a glass of water on your other hand.
“Ten or eleven. Why?” Taehyung seemed to be moving on the other side as you sigh. Late dinner would be fine, as long as you were with him, right?
“I was wondering if we could have some dinner at either of our places. I’ve had a bad day and I miss you.” You say truthfully as you closed your eyes and hold the tears that want to push past your eyelids.
“I’m sorry to hear that baby, but I don’t think it would be good for us to see each other right now. Management—“
“Please Tae. I need you.” You interrupted him as a sob coursed through your throat. You felt pathetic for asking for your boyfriend’s attention when you knew how busy the industry is during this time of the year, but you just heard your dreams are in danger and you needed someone you could vent to.
“Baby… I think it would be better if we follow our mana—“
“God! Do you not want to see me?!” This unexpected rage filled you as you began to see red behind the tears that dripped down your cheeks. Your apartment felt too hot. The heat made you agitated. You wanted one thing and the world couldn’t even give you that.
“You know it’s not like that.” Taehyung’s small voice sounded hurt from behind the phone’s speaker, but it enraged you more knowing your hurt was hurting him. You couldn’t do one thing right, couldn’t you? No. How dare he act hurt when you doubt he even fights for you in their meetings. It was always you asking to see him and he would remind you of both your management team’s warnings.
“Really?! Because I’m starting to think that you don’t even want to see me anymore. We haven’t even seen each other since summer! God knows where you’ve been during your tours.” Your last statement was uncalled for. You knew that. Your anger shouldn’t start accusations especially when you know that the man on the other side of the phone was deeply in love with you, but rage makes you do unexplainable things.
You were angry at everything and everyone, and the words that spilled out of your mouth had no further value but the vile that it carries. Taehyung knew that, but he was in the middle of his fifth shoot of the week. He was trying to be as patient as he could be with you, but a nerve had been touched when you questioned his loyalty. How could you question his loyalty when he has done everything in his power to show you how much he was in love with you? He had asked countless times when he could see you, but rejection was always the answer of his managers.
He hated this year just as much as he hated himself for bringing you out to the balcony that night. Not because he regretted giving you his promise ring, but because he wasn’t thinking properly. He should’ve known that neighboring people could see him with you. He should’ve thought about it clearer. He shouldn’t have placed you in that vulnerable situation, and that idea manifested itself to why he was so willing to follow the rules of his managers. He didn’t want to put you in that place again. He didn’t want both your names to go under fire on Twitter again.
“I don’t want to fight with you right now.” Taehyung says dejectedly as the glass on your hand slips to land on the floor. The sound of the glass shattering on the floor and the water spilling on tiles reached Taehyung’s ears as a shock filled him.
“Baby?! What was that sound? Are you okay?” Taehyung sits up straighter from where he was seated in the waiting room with the rest of his band members. All their eyes went to him as he looked panicked whilst on his phone call.
“Yeah, just a glass of water. I’ll talk to you later, V.” Your voice was monotone and the usage of his stage name had caused a frown to rest on Taehyung’s face. It felt strange. It felt as though you were placing a barrier between you and him when you used his stage name. The same barrier an idol had with their fans, but your relationship wasn’t like that. You were the love of his life and the keeper of his promise. Getting called his stage name by you felt cold.
Taehyung turns his phone off after you hang up on him and he leans back on the sofa he sat on. Yoongi sat asleep on his right whilst Jungkook was nearing sleep on his left, though Jimin sat across the room on another sofa with his eyebrow furrowed as if asking the younger for what that was about. However, Jimin was beaten to ask Taehyung about his call as Namjoon pipes in from sitting beside Jimin.
“What was that about?” Namjoon asks as Taehyung sighs. He didn’t want to answer, but now five pairs of eyes were on him and the ears of their makeup artists were pressuring him to answer with something.
“You already know.” Taehyung says in a low voice, though his hyungs nod in understanding.
“I don’t get why you don’t just go see her. You know, I break Sejin’s rules all the time.” Jimin says as he earns a warning shove from Namjoon and a laugh from Hoseok. They all eventually break Sejin’s rules and Taehyung himself even broke his rules earlier into courting you, but he shouldn’t risk it now. Not when your names were out there and any signs that you were dating would be taken as the truth.
“We’ll help you sneak out later, Taehyung ah.” Jin offers as he flashes the younger a playful grin and a wink from his seat in front of the mirror surrounded by makeup artists.
“Sejin will pay you out of everything.”
“You have to be careful though. Our company could buy you out, but hers might not have the funds for it.” Hoseok pipes in as his sudden negative input has everyone turning to him with questioning looks.
“Don’t you guys look at their stocks? It’s been getting lower since last year. It might be the reason why you weren’t protected from the balcony incident.” Hoseok says as he flashes the boys his screen that is filled with stocks.
“No, the balcony incident was because the people who caught us immediately posted it without the help of media outlets. Our management can only protect us to an extent.” Taehyung now speaks as he shakes his head and massages his forehead. They all knew that. If fans capture them then it would pose a larger threat because they were willing to release any media without sending an email and deal to companies.
But what Taehyung did take note from what his hyung said was how your company’s stocks were lowering. You never told him that problem so he thinks it isn’t a major problem, though if his hyung knew about it then the changes must be drastic.
And they were drastic. After you hang up on Taehyung, you have turned your tears into a driving power to get working on some lyrics in your notebook. You didn’t even realize the amount of time that had passed as you spent it hunched over the coffee table writing away. The glass shards still littered the tiles of the kitchen and your mascara still darkened your eyes.
It was already one in the morning and Taehyung carefully got into your apartment building as both his hands held your favorite takeout paper bags with drinks. The boys had in fact helped him sneak out of the dorm that night, and it took him a few minutes and taxi rides to finally get everything he wanted to buy for the night.
He was going to apologize tonight. He was going to tell you the truth of everything on his mind and he would listen to everything you had to say. He wanted to make things right and it starts with giving you a kiss as soon as he enters the door.
The knock from your apartment’s door was the first sound you’d heard in the past few hours. It brought you to consciousness from your endless writing, and when you looked down to see your work everything was only an incomprehensible mess. Dried tear stains littered the pages and the callus on your finger grew thicker from friction.
You pushed yourself up from your spot on the carpet and walked carefully towards your front door. Another soft knock followed after some silence and you wanted to tell the person on the other side that you were coming, though your throat was raw from lack of usage.
“Hey baby.” Taehyung’s figure greets you as you open the door. His freshly trimmed dark hair covered his forehead as his mask was discarded under his chin. His figure was engulfed in a black jacket with its hood unused. A soft smile played on his lips, though it fell as soon as he saw your figure. The smile instead was replaced with a look of worry as you can only imagine what state you looked like.
“I— I’m so sorry I didn’t come any sooner…” Taehyung immediately sets down the paper bags of food by the doorway before approaching you to engulf in a big warm hug. The hug that you had wished for earlier, and finally your emotions were put to ease.
The little droplets of rain left on his jacket and his steady heartbeat got rid of every pain and anger you had in your body and you finally let your eyes close as you hugged him back. His breath on top of your head slowly brings you back to the love and warmth you always knew would come to you.
“Tae, my— my company…”
You both had let everything out through dinner. In the early hours of the day, you both cried and laughed. You catched up with the happenings of each other's lives and you forgave each other.
“You know what would be great right now?” You spoke as Taehyung looked up to you from his place on your lap. His head rested on the valley of your thighs as his Hwarang drama played on the TV in your living room. His eyes bright and a soft smile permanently plastered to his lips.
“What?”
“A cone of ice cream.” You say as you watch his eyes brighten at the idea. So what if he just got his teeth cleaned and they were sensitive to cold food? If you wanted ice cream then he wants it too.
“What are we waiting for? Let’s get some ice cream!” He says as he sits up and turns off the TV.
“Tae, we can’t go out.” You remind him though the brow he raises and smug look on his face just makes a smile break your lips.
“I don’t care. No payouts, no worries. If they know then they’ll know. I’ll get my girl her ice cream!”
You giggle as Taehyung goes into your bedroom and comes out with a large black puffer jacket, a pair of warm socks, and a scarf. He ordered you to stand up as he wrapped the warm jacket over your figure and wrapped your neck up with a scarf. He pulls out a wet wipe to gently wipe your face with any dried tears or mascara before he pulls you towards the front door.
He doesn’t even let you crouch down to tie your own shoes or put your own socks on because he does it for you before he does his own. And soon you were already walking out your apartment building with his hand playing with yours.
You ended up grabbing a cone of your favorite ice cream from an ice cream place that was open 24/7. It was roughly a fifteen minute walk from your place and when he sensed your pace slowing, he took a detour and took you to a riverside road that had benches looking out onto the river.
Light bulbs tied into strings hung from trees and the gentle flow of the river made the place serene. You two sat on a bench and ate your ice cream by the river as silence engulfed you two. A comforting peace hugging you tightly as time seemed nonexistent when you were with him. You leaned your head on his shoulder and basked in the moment. A buzz of restlessness ringing in your ear, though it didn’t matter whenever he was near.
If someone took a picture of you now then you wouldn’t care anymore. As long as you were with him then you would be fine.

Everyone was convinced that the two of you were dating and ever since then you were a bit more shameless to post pictures on your instagram with a few too many similarities to deny that you two weren’t in the same place at the same time.
With the news of your unconfirmed relationship reaching new lengths with more leaked content, you two became somewhat old news. Everyone knew there was something undeniable between you two, though nothing had been confirmed. Your two companies stayed out of it after their first statement that only clarified that both of you weren’t engaged, though it also said that your companies had no rights in your personal engagements.
A month after, your latest comeback had been released and it was a massive pop. It had landed the charts and stayed on the Top 5 even with rising competition and BTS’s unstoppable Dynamite single. And Maybe, just maybe, it could save your company’s decline.
The end of November was the season of awardings and your latest comeback just manages to squeeze into the eligibility period of the criteria. Which meant your hit comeback had actually landed you multiple nominations, and perhaps your first ever Daesang? If that was possible against BTS’s unstoppable year.
It felt as though your struggles through the year were getting set to rest, and whatever happens now was up to the world’s hands.
Arriving in the 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards felt like a reward. You could finally relax and enjoy the event of your year’s work. In these events you would always remember how it changed your life by letting you and Taehyung meet gazes. How it made you meet your closest friends and interact with fans from different fandoms. It was a celebration whether you left as a winner or not.
Taehyung took his first step out to walk the red carpet as cameras flash all around him. The crowd of fans behind the media outlets raised their phone cameras as cheers roared. His bandmates smiled and waved as they took a spot right in front of the banner backdrop.
They were missing Yoongi that night. The rapper was absent to recover from his long due shoulder surgery that he got in an accident years ago. This small change in their usual order had all the staff and management team on edge. They already had to relearn their choreography and positions for the performance tonight, and the staff were busy all week to find ways on how they would spend Yoongi’s rap parts of the song without him, so it was an understatement to say that everyone was a little tired and on edge for tonight.
The six remaining members all arranged themselves into their familiar order, with Taehyung leading the line and leaving a space for Yoongi before Jin, Jungkook, Namjoon, Jimin, and Hoseok followed in order.
They all stopped at the first spot where semi-popular outlets took pictures of them and their different colored suits. They all had a mix of muted navy, white, and some accents of maroon, a color scheme that stood out from the classic black suit. Taehyung wore navy trousers and a matching suit jacket whilst his undershirt was a satin white. His suit jacket was buttoned up to his chest and had a maroon colored handkerchief in its pocket.
After a few seconds, a director had signed for Taehyung to continue walking along the carpet as the boy group Seventeen, that was ahead of them in the queue, moved towards the part of the carpet where the event hosts would interview them.
Taehyung glanced behind him to make sure his bandmates were following him as he moved further up the queue. They stopped once again with their line still intact and they posed for the more known media outlets.
At the same time, their junior’s Tomorrow X Together arrived and followed them in the queue by taking their previous spot. Their hoobaes dressed in fitting black suits as they arranged themselves in a line and posed for the cameras. The crowd also cheered for them, before they reverted their attention to the short interview held on the members of Seventeen.
Another cue of a director made Taehyung turn to watch the Seventeen walk inside the building. He waited patiently for all members to enter before he followed to occupy the spot they had left. The host, Song Joong Ki, greeted the members as Taehyung was handed two microphones that he passed to his bandmates. He would let his hyung’s take care of the interview answers, though he still smiled to the cameras that flashed and broadcasted the carpet.
“Welcome! Bangtan Sonyeondan!” Song Joong Ki announces as classic questions fall from his lips, though he has lost all of Taehyung’s attention when he saw you enter to lead your group on the queue of the carpet.
Your body clad in a white angelic like satin material dress. It had thick bows as spaghetti straps on your shoulders, though it kept the skin of your collarbone and shoulders exposed. It hugged your torso tightly almost like a corset before it loosened below your waists and made you seem like a doll. Hemline details on your skirt had separated the silky fabric of the bodice and majority of the skirt to the more flowy and scrunched material that gave your dress an airy aura. Your white heels polished to shine as bright as the cameras, and your angel-like makeup made Taehyung feel like he was actually seeing an angel.
He didn’t care if people saw how his mouth stood agape and how his gaze stayed on you for a moment too long. It was the only appropriate reaction to your outfit. Your bandmates also had varying white dresses on, yet you seemed like the star of the show. A true beauty that he was blessed to witness in his lifetime.
“Taehyung ah, stop staring at your girlfriend and move.” Jin had whispered to Taehyung. The space for Yoongi in between them had disappeared as Taehyung snapped his gaze back to his hyung. He could see you posing for pictures on his peripheral vision, though the slight nudge of Jin pushing him along to enter the venue was enough for him to stop watching you.
He could even see Jimin flashing him a smirk as it was quite obvious who had stolen all his attention. Taehyung was shameless as he only smiled and calmly walked towards the small steps leading to the venue.
He wondered how he would celebrate tonight. The Mnet Asian Music Awards always have been an indicator to him that it had been another year since he met the most beautiful angel on Earth. He would always replay the moment he caught your eyes when he received an award, and sometimes, if he was lucky, your eyes would meet and he falls for you deeper than he had the first time you met. Gosh, he hoped one of the cameras had gotten a good picture of you because he can’t wait to make it his homesc—
Bang.
And screaming was all he heard as his head snapped to find out what the commotion was about. Everyone’s handheld cameras had turned to the start of the queue, and the cameras that were on fixed stands to face the carpet in front were left unattended by the camera directors. All their eyes widening at a sight that Taehyung couldn’t see.
Security guards that stood near the venue entrance had run past Taehyung to get to the commotion, though Taehyung couldn’t see through a combination of his hyung’s heads and the bodies of managers and staff that filled the red carpet.
Taehyung was more curious than worried about the commotion. All he knew was that the commotion had taken place at the start of the queue where he stood just a few moments ago. Taehyung watched as all his members tried to raise their necks to see past the crowd.
Namjoon had tapped a staff member to ask what happened, and Taehyung would have intently eavesdropped the conversation if not for the face Jimin had flashed Taehyung as he turned with a worried look. It was a look that knew something.
How did Jimin see through the crowd? They didn’t know.
“What is it?” Taehyung asked as Jimin stopped stretching his neck and stared at him with wide eyes whilst licking his lips as if he was finding the right words to describe the situation he saw.
But Taehyung didn’t need to hear it from him as Jin soon found a gap to see what happened, and the loud ‘woah’ that involuntarily left his throat was enough for all members present to look at him.
However, just like Jimin did after seeing the commotion, their eldest member flashed Taehyung worried eyes before grabbing Taehyung’s wrist as if he could bolt at any moment. These glances and actions were starting to worry Taehyung now. He would understand if the members who saw something happened wouldn’t want the other members to know, but why did it look as if they didn’t want him specifically to know or react.
“What?” Taehyung’s Daegu accent came out as he was getting worried at what was happening.
Then a few gasps came from the crowd that watched and Taehyung finally found a gap to see someone on top of another person at the start of the queue. Right where your group was standing mere seconds ago.
Taehyung tugged at Jin’s grip as he finally saw someone pull the erratically moving person off the floor and the person she had pinned to the floor.
Who was getting attacked? Taehyung didn’t know yet, but something in his stomach told him that his hyungs knew.
The crazy woman was pulled off the floor by a security guard. Taehyung's gaze went from the woman fighting the guard to one of the barriers that separated the general crowd of fans from the photographers, carpet, and artists. The barrier was on the floor as other fans didn’t dare cross it, though he had figured that the loud bang was from the barrier falling to the floor.
Taehyung then let his gaze wander to whoever the woman had pinned to the floor and lo and behold… it was you.
Seeing your messy hair and disoriented figure had blood surging through Taehyung’s body. A different type of adrenaline flowed through him unlike the ones he experiences at concerts. No, this one made him want to fight and flight at the same time.
Taehyung easily pulled away from Jin’s grip as he walked past Jimin before he could block his way. The call of his name from Hoseok and Jungkook fell on deaf ears as he continued his fast strides towards you. His eyes fixed on your figure before it was lost behind a crowd of people.
Taehyung pushed past TXT with little to no problems. He simply murmured an apology and an ‘excuse me’ as he passed through.
A ring of people had circled where you were supposed to be as Taehyung pushed past people in his goal to reach you. It felt as though his body was walking through quicksand at how he had to forcibly get his body past the crowd.
He can feel his suit get wrinkled and his shoes get stepped on. His hair must be ruffled by now and perhaps one of his prop rings had already slipped past a finger, but it didn’t matter. As long as the silver band he had as your promise was fine and he gets to you in the least amount of time then anything else could be replaceable.
With one more push he finally got to the middle of the crowd. The air felt less dense, though Taehyung couldn’t get a proper breath in until he could see that you were okay.
It didn’t take long for your eyes to meet each other though. Your wide blown out eyes reach peace as your eyes meet his, and he would be lying if your eyes didn’t give him just a small bit of ease running through his body.
He immediately took a step towards you as a few gasps were heard followed by a louder bang rang and silenced his surroundings. A disorienting buzz ran through his ears as he turned towards the woman to see her get tackled to the floor by multiple security guards and a gun slipping past her grip.
The bang wasn’t another barrier falling…
She shot a bullet
And he didn’t know where it landed.
Taehyung reached for you to engulf with his body and shield you from the direction the woman was. You immediately collapsed into his grip as you brought your hands to cover your face and bury yourself in Taehyung’s suit.
“Baby, are you okay? Are you hurt? D—did you…” Taehyung couldn’t finish what he wanted to ask you as he opted to skim your body for any obvious injuries.
He wasn't going to admit it but he was looking for a bullet wound under the fabric of your dress, though all he saw was the ruffled satin material as you cried onto his chest. His grip on you tightened as he turned his head back to see proper police men restrain the woman in handcuffs.
“You’re okay now. You’re fine. You’re safe, baby. She’s gone.” Taehyung repeats his words over your hair. A kiss landing on your messy hair. His whispers of comfort placed ease into both your bodies, though you could still hear his heart pumping heavily.
“Tae…” You were breathless as tears uncontrollably dripped down your cheeks. You were just thankful that Taehyung was blocking you from the media. Now that the woman was gone, the media was bound to get an aftermath photo of you so you were just glad they couldn’t see you in the middle of a breakdown.
“Yes baby? Are you hurt? Do you need an ambulance?” Taehyung asked as he rubbed a hand on the top of your hair to soothe down some loose strands, though the action was more to comfort you than fix up your appearance. He was well aware of the cameras and whispers around you.
“Are— are you hurt? The g-gun…” Your voice shakes as you wipe your tears and look up at him.
The sounds of cameras flashing, managers and staff speaking loudly, and police, was the loud buzzing of your ear. It started right as you were tackled to the ground with a twist of your ankle and your head hitting the not so soft red carpet. It still heavily buzzes in your ear over any other noise, excluding Taehyung’s calming voice which you can hear just as clear as the vibrations of your heart pumping.
“No. No, I’m not hurt, baby. Please answer me now. Are you okay?” Taehyung repeats himself whilst placing emphasis on the word ‘you’. He brings a gentle hand to wipe tears sliding down your cheek as you take in the condition of your body.
“My— my ankle… I think I twisted it when I fell, but I think I’m fine.” You say as the adrenaline wears off and an uncomfortable sting comes to your left ankle. You still stood on your heels effortlessly, though a growing tingle had started to spread from where the heel’s strap held onto your ankle.
“Okay. Thank you for answering.” Taehyung kisses your lips swiftly before he raises a hand to call for attention, and looks towards the direction of the venue. Paramedics and staff that were on standby were already walking down the carpet as your eyes even catch Jimin’s worried eyes skimming over both you and Taehyung. The medics were by your side in no time as the crowd around you disperse.
“She said that she might’ve twisted her ankle.” Taehyung says to the paramedics who nodded, though they didn’t signal him to let go just yet.
“Let’s go to the back to check for further injuries. The media is out of control.” A manager suggested to the paramedics who agreed.
“Can you walk?” Taehyung asks as you merely nodded before you were led to a private space behind the wall of the red carpet. Taehyung continued to support you as you took heavy steps in your heels.
The small space behind the backdrop wasn’t too spacious though it was enough to shield you as the paramedics opened a kit and let you sit down on a small plastic stool. Taehyung stood right beside you. Your fingers intertwine as your fingers meet the cold material of his promise ring, and that’s when it hits you.
“Sh-shit.” Your once dried cheeks had now turned wet again as you looked down to your hand and found all your fingers were bare from any jewelry.
“Shh… You’re fine, baby. You’re getting treated.” Taehyung rubs your head to help soothe you though your sobs start to grow as the paramedics ask you what’s wrong, though you only shook your head to dismiss them.
“Tae… I lost the— the ring. It— It must have fell when I—“
“It’s fine, baby. I can buy you a new one.” Taehyung reassures you, though you were inconsolable.
“Please, say something if this hurts Miss.” The medic speaks as she caresses the skin of your ankle. A yelp leaving your lips as the medics nodded and continued to assess your shin.
From the way your chest heaved with each sob and the way tears fell from your eyes, the medics couldn’t assess you properly though they made the best of the situation and made the decision to take you to the hospital.
“Taehyung, you need to get into the venue. The event is going to be delayed, but groups need to be inside the venue for security checks and safety.” His manager speaks as his head pops from the other side of the backdrop. A wheelchair strolling behind him as the medics explain to you that they were taking you to the hospital.
“What? I can’t leave her right now. Did you see what happened?!” Taehyung didn’t mean to raise his voice, though he couldn’t leave you right now. Perhaps you were physically okay, but that must have been mentally shocking and he wants to be there just to comfort you even if it doesn’t make a big difference.
“Yes, I did see. Everyone saw. And we don't know if there’s another sasaeng out there, so we need you to get in the venue now.” The manager said sternly, though Taehyung continued to ignore the orders.
He instead opted to help guide you to sit comfortably on the wheelchair. His finger grazing over red scratch marks on the skin of your forearm. He hadn’t seen those earlier, though he doubts the paramedics had missed it.
When they exited from behind the backdrop they were met with security guards escorting them to the road where the ambulance was parked. Taehyung walked alongside the wheelchair as the paramedic wheeled you to the ambulance. His manager followed a few paces behind.
You writhed with shame as you thought about all the news that could be written on this night alone and you hadn’t even entered the venue yet. You weren’t sure you could.
Taehyung was held back by his manager before he could enter the ambulance with you. His gaze in question and slight irritation as he was met by the face of their manager once more, though this time his members were walking out the venue in search of him.
“Kim Taehyung don’t go. For her sake. You can see her after, but right now we need you inside for the media's sake.” Their manager says more desperate now as he turns to meet your eyes that were inside the ambulance.
He was all too aware of the eyes watching both of you and he could tell that you were too. You gave him a slight nod as a sign that you’d be fine as he nodded more to himself and took a step back to be with his manager. For your sake, he wasn’t going to be with you right now. Not when the media would be having a frenzy already. For you, your company, and your reputation.
“Come on, get inside.” The manager nudged Taehyung to follow behind him as he kept his gaze down on the floor when a few cameras took pictures of him walking to the entrance.
A shiny piece of jewelry caught his attention as he bent down and found the promise ring he had given you last year. A promise ring that had caused you more tears than he wanted you to have.
“Come on, V.” Jimin says as he reaches out for Taehyung to accompany him in walking to the venue behind the rest of the members that flashed him pitiful looks.
“You did the right thing. She needed you, and you’ll see each other after this.” Jimin reassured, as Taehyung’s eyes began to sting from behind, though he tried to stop the emotions from showing in his eyes.
“They said it was a sasaeng?” Taehyung asked as the security guards opened the door for them and they entered the dark and cold doors of the big venue that the 21st Mnet Asian Music Awards would take place in.
“Apparently. I tried my best to eavesdrop and they said that the motive might’ve been because of your relationship. She was ARMY.” Jimin summarized everything he had heard as they both stopped in a dim hallway to wait for staff to open a door that led to the artist area.
“I still don’t get how she managed to walk past security, staff, and camera directors. How did she even have a gun?!” Taehyung was exasperated as the two ‘95 liners leaned against the padded walls. Taehyung leaned his head on Jimin’s shoulder as Jungkook came up to squeeze his shoulder.
“Is she okay? We heard guns were involved.” Jungkook asked as it was obvious that the rest of his bandmates were listening from behind the maknae.
“Yeah. She’s shaken up. Maybe even have a twisted ankle and a few scratches.” Taehyung says as his eyes zone out on the pattern of the carpet and his fingers play on the ring he held on his finger.
“Are you okay?” Namjoon shows himself from behind Jungkook as Taehyung simply nods.
The night had gone by like a blur. It was obvious to everyone watching that he was not as present as he should have been, though nobody blames him. The views of the event had skyrocketed after news broke out that an artist was attacked and yet the event continued on. Hashtags about the event and incident even went viral prior to the awards finishing because clips of Taehyung running towards you and escorting you to the ambulance had gone viral. It practically happened in front of everybody so it was bound to get posted, and technically no blood or gore had been shown so the content wasn’t blocked as quickly as both your companies and the event organizers wanted them to be.
Taehyung walks through the hospital hallways with paper bags of your favorite takeout food, your favorite drink, some spare clothes of his that you could change to in case your personal assistant didn’t bring good comfy clothes, and a small cake of your favorite flavor. He had made do with how late it was and how your favorite bakery was already closed.
It felt like deja vu once again. However, this time he wasn’t riding the elevator to your apartment but rather riding it to your hospital room.
Your absence from the event was so painstakingly obvious for him and everyone. He was jittery all night, and your group seemed so small when they occupied the stage for their performance. It was obvious that they had done last minute blocking, and the bactrack had been used for your solo parts. They seemed so small when they walked down the artist area and got to the stage to receive the Best Female Group award and the Best Female Group Dance Performance award. Your group wasn’t small in the sense that they had little members, though it felt like something was missing. Your big bubbly smile and your funny yet carefully worded speech was missing, and Taehyung could speak for everyone that your presence was greatly missed.
He had received a text from you as soon as the event ended and when he got his phone back. Your text contained your congratulations for him and his wins and performances. Jimin even showed Taehyung a message you sent that congratulated Jimin and the rest of BTS. It was certainly a good year for them, and you had grown closer towards your boyfriend’s close friend despite only interacting a few times.
You told him that he should probably visit later into the evening since your group would be visiting you after the event, though Taehyung didn’t listen and still went as fast as he could when ordering food.
He arrived at your hospital room at almost two in the morning and from what he could hear, your bandmates were still in your hospital room talking to you.
He knocked on the door and heard the girls quiet down as one of the members opened the door to see Taehyung standing in the middle of the hallway with his PA behind him holding the bag of clothes and box of cake.
“Hey, sorry to intrude on your celebrations but can I come see my girlfriend?” Taehyung says as a smile couldn’t help but creep up his face as his heart swells with pride with how he openly says that you were his girlfriend.
“Yah Y/Nah, your boyfriend is here.” The member smiled brightly as she opened the door wider to show you laying in the hospital bed with wide eyes from Taehyung’s early arrival. Your other bandmates had visibly smiled brighter when Taehyung entered the room.
“Good evening.” Taehyung greets as he places all of the paper bags on a nearby table and bows deeply to your bandmates.
“Congratulations on your wins and performance!”
All of your bandmates greet the same words as they bow just as deep to their sunbaenim.
“You should have told us Kim Taehyung sunbaenim was coming. We should’ve ordered more food for him—“ You leader speaks as you stay silent yet a small smiles lingers on your lips when Taehyung doesn’t let his eyes leave you.
“It’s okay. I brought some takeout to eat, and a cake to celebrate your wins.” Taehyung opens the small cake he had brought as his PA takes his leave and walks out the door.
“Oh V sunbaenim, thank you! We already had some cake, but I’m sure Y/N would love that. She barely ate anything tonight.” One of your members discloses as you send her a warning gaze as her face contorts into a look of apology.
Taehyung’s brown doe eyes met yours once more and this time it held the same worry it had earlier in the evening. You hated that. You hated seeing him worried over you, though at the same time it made you feel so cared for.
“We should probably get going. We need some rest and we can celebrate properly when you’re feeling better Y/N.” Your group’s leader says as they all excused themselves after they bid you well and congratulated Taehyung once more.
You were left in the silence of your hospital room with Taehyung at last. It felt like a decade just to get some time alone ever since the incident, and it felt like a reward to finally be alone together after the stressful night.
“Why aren’t you eating?” Taehyung asks as he comes towards the side of the bed to give you a kiss on your cheek.
“Not in the mood for it.” You say honestly because you really didn’t feel hungry, though Taehyung’s brow raised to doubt your answer.
“Come on, don’t let me eat all of this alone.” He says as your favorite food reaches your nose. The aroma turns the wheel of your appetite as Taehyung moves the table closer to the side of your bed.
“Seriously, Tae…”
“Please baby? Let me food you a few spoonfuls at least? It would help me feel better.” Taehyung asks as you nod willingly.
He opens up a container and grabs a wooden spoon to fill with the right amount of everything before guiding the spoon to your open mouth. The warmth of the food immediately landing in your stomach as a satisfied hum left you. Taehyung smiled at that and took his own bite with a smile.
“How’s your ankle?” He asks.
“It’s twisted, but it should heal well. I’ll be walking around with a brace, but it's not like we have a comeback coming.” You say as you move your leg from under the white blanket and show him the brace that keeps your ankle straight.
“I don’t know how long I’ll be here though. They said that I’m showing symptoms of an acute concussion, so it would be better to keep me under observation. That’s why I’m not really eating food right now. I don’t want to throw it up in case this does happen to be a concussion. ” You shrug as you eye the movie that showed on the TV.
Taehyung took your left hand in his and raised it to meet his lips. His breath grazing over your ring finger as you feel him slide a familiar metal back to its place.
“What— Woah! You found it!” You smile as you check the ring to truly see if it was the same ring he had given you a year ago. The same small dent that you had accidentally struck against the wall had grazed the design and you knew for a fact that it was the same ring you had worn as a promise.
“It’s kinda hard to miss. No wonder everyone saw it when we wore it.” Taehyung chuckles as he kisses your hand again before you pull him closer to you to kiss on the lips.
His usually soft lips still had some remnants of lipstick from the makeup of their performance. However, the surface wasn’t the soft flesh you’ve come to be familiar with. It was bitten and cracked in some places. Some skin was freshly peeled and others were dry and waiting for the time to be peeled. It was a sign that he had bitten them off prematurely as a coping mechanism from anxiety.
“I’m sorry, baby. I— I heard the fan was a sasaeng and I didn’t even try that hard to join you in the ambulance, but I— I didn’t want the media following and— and our companies… It’s not an excuse—“
“Tae, it’s not your fault.” You state sternly with your expression straight. You didn’t know where this reaction was coming from, but you had to shut down all those thoughts.
“She was a sasaeng— an ARMY…” Taehyung was teary eyed as he sat on the side of the bed with his hands wrapped around your waist as your arms rested on his shoulders.
“You can’t control them and you can’t control what our agencies tell us to do. Just like how they told us to keep some distance when we told them about our relationship. We can break what they say sometimes, but eventually we know we have to follow them. Like how we still kept on seeing each other and how you still had to join the event.” You explained as he nodded.
He was tongue tied or perhaps he didn’t have anything more to say. He just wanted to hold you and tell himself he did everything he could to prevent what happened and that at the end of the day you are fine with injuries that could be fixed. He wanted to kiss you and feel your skin against his. He wanted to breathe in your scent and feel your chest move with every inhale and exhale.
So he did just that. He laid beside you and brought your body down with him to embrace. Your skin against his as you both settle in a comfortable position.
“What if we weren’t idols?”
“Don’t say that Tae. We met because we were idols. We met because we wanted to study being idols and you saw me because you are a damn good idol.” You say as Taehyung laughs and kisses your cheeks.
“I know, but like what if we went away for a while. Just the two of us and some place we don’t know.” Taehyung proposes as you tilt your head to think over the idea as you signal him to continue his brewing thought.
“Just for a few days or a week. We deserve it after a long year. Besides, it’s my birthday soon.” Taehyung smiles brighter when he mentions his birthday as if you hadn’t been saving up for his birthday gift already.
“That does sound nice…”
“So it’s settled! New Year’s and my birthday in some place we don’t know! I’ll start planning it tomorrow.” Taehyung smiles as you laugh with him, but really he was planning on replacing your dented ring with a new one.
“Also I brought some clothes. I was wondering if I could sleep here tonight.” Taehyung asks as you smile and land a kiss on his lips.
“I was waiting for you to say that. My parents are visiting early in the morning though, so you better be up by then.” You both chuckle as he kisses you once more.
“Are you comfy in your clothes? I have your favorite sweater in the bag, and a coat in case you ever feel like having ice cream again.”
You chuckle as you slightly nudge his shoulder. This man truly was something else.

Getting into a relationship with an idol was not one for the faint of heart. You knew the troubles and problems that came along with it and you weren’t blind. You knew of the NDAs and the contracts that would be pushed to you by management to keep everything confidentially under wraps. You knew of the disgust some people would look towards you with when you walked through their work building. You knew of the potential risks of receiving hate and possibly ruining the reputation of your lover once word gets out, though that never stopped your love from running away from them. That never stopped them from loving you fonder, and making it known to the people that they can share it to that they loved you.
The way they would hold onto your hand just the right amount when you walked past the HYBE building lobby and hallways. The way that they would eat with you in the building’s cafeteria and proudly showing how much they enjoyed your company even with staff and other artists throwing an occasional glance at your table. They didn’t hold back when they took you out on private expensive dinner dates or public dates with minimal identity hiding accessories because they weren’t afraid to payout any media outlets that threatened to leak your identity. They didn’t even care when gossip went out that they were in a relationship with video evidence to prove that they slung their arm over your shoulder and lightly kissed you on the top of your head. They didn’t care. They only drew the line when an official media outlet captured the side of your face and immediately asked for the footage to be erased off the face of the earth with a good amount of bills to compensate, though they were berated by their management to at least be a little more careful considering other media outlets were fully in for the gossip and not for the payout. This also led to management apprehensively making the decision that you shouldn't be traveling with the boys to America since the company doesn’t have power over any of their media outlets, much to your lover’s dismay. Or should you say… lovers.
There was one thing they loved to show off silently when they spent time with personal friends and that was the family they had on their lockscreen, proudly showing all eight of you. Each lover had a different picture, though they all held the small polyamorous family that you had gathered.
Yes, you were in a relationship with all the members and no, that didn’t make life easier. At first you were totally apprehensive of the idea though as you spent more time with all of them and saw just how much love they held for each other as they held for you. You realized that loving them all equally wouldn’t be that hard and truly it wasn’t.
Your relationship with all of them came naturally. No, there was never a time you mixed them up or moaned the wrong name. No, your heart didn’t flutter for a certain member more than it did the other. You loved them all equally just as much as they loved each other and the transition of them loving an extra person came with ease.
They all managed to have their one-on-one time with you in a week whilst simultaneously spending time with the other members as lovers. Your relationship came straight out of a fanfic plot, and you’d giggle to yourself every time you remember that fact even if that caused your boyfriends to send a questioning glance at you.
However, with happiness comes sadness. The issues in dating one idol had multiplied itself to seven and no matter the bright smiles you had when you were together, it was the silent moments you had to yourself that truly planted worries of how relationships like this would work.
Surely they didn’t see a future in spending the rest of their lives sharing a lover with their bandmates, and you would be lying to yourself if you didn’t have moments of having zero energy left in you to give them all the love they deserved whilst simultaneously working on things for yourself like your job and personal interest. Although their tight reassurance made it feel better, the thoughts would always come back to haunt your mind and all of this build up had gathered before a particularly long stint of performances and media duties the band had in America.
It was a particularly long stint of argument piled on top of arguments. It was as if all you guys could do was argue. One night it would be Jin and Taehyung and the other would be Jimin and Namjoon. Sometimes it would even be all eight of you arguing over the dining table as the food you cooked for them grows colder with each shouting battle.
There were moments you weren’t proud of how you handled them, though you couldn’t simply agree that it was all your fault. The boys’ schedules were getting busier as the days to their American promotions got closer and you were all aware of the unavailability they would be on to care and give you attention. You have been in a relationship with them for long enough to know that it was unavoidable in a relationship with an idol and frankly you didn’t care if your relationship had turned more of you giving and them taking since you knew they would be returning your love soon after their schedules. It was standard when dating an idol.
What changed this time around though was that they were coming home tired and vile. Each night you would make an effort to help clean up the dorm after your job to lessen the work for the staff that cleans their space. Each night you would make an effort to let them come home to a warm and healthy home cooked meal, only for each and every one of them to swipe it under the rug as they open the door with another argument on their lips.
Sometimes it was okay though. Most of the time, they were still your loving boyfriends in the mornings before their schedules. They just would come home tired and silent, barely giving you any attention though you understood that they couldn’t give you much after their tiring schedules.
However, everything came to a halt when news of a beloved cousin’s death rang through your phone one afternoon. Sickness had won and you hadn’t even known they were sick. The same cousin that you’d visit during spring break to help your aunt and uncle’s harvest season on their farm. The same cousin who would teach you new games that Seoul kids never knew, who gave you plenty of advice on highschool and boys, who you practically considered as an older sibling.
The news struck you hard. The boys knew of this cousin to hold a special place in your heart and you had a breakdown when you found out of their passing. If you needed someone to comfort you then you really needed it then, though inconveniently the same day the news hit was the same day the boys had a particularly ugly argument on their new choreography. Everyone had something to say at the dining table and you could only look numbly at the takeout food you had ordered as you still couldn’t process the death on your own.
That brings you to the next morning. Three weeks before the boys go to America for a whole month, and a decision laid heavily on your mind.
[08:59] Y/N: Hey, are you still at the dorm?
[09:00] Namjoon: We just left, princess. We’ll see each other later at dinner, okay?
[9:01] Seokjin: We’ll apologize and make up later, sweetheart. We heard you went home late last night. You should’ve just stayed at the dorm to rest.
No, you couldn’t. You were sure that if you had slept in one of their beds then they would vent to you about their latest argument or perhaps be too tired to even know you were sleeping beside them, so you opted to commute back to your apartment despite the time being eleven in the evening already.
[9:05] Y/N: Don’t worry about it, Jin. I took the day off today, so I could still catch up on sleep.
[9:06] Yoongi: We weren’t worried about that, hun.
[9:06] Hoseok: You should’ve at least let one of our drivers drive you. It’s dangerous commuting late at night, beautiful. And you know that.
You smiled at their caring words, though you were sure the decision on your mind wouldn’t change anytime soon.
[9:08] Y/N: Yeah, I know, but it’s fine though. I’ll talk to you guys later.
You quickly turned your phone off as you rolled in bed. The warmth of the sun shining through your window did nothing to heat up the cold feeling you had inside you, and you were sure that it was about to get colder when you get to the the dorm.
[3 months earlier]
“What’s on your mind?” You asked as Namjoon sighed and took a seat on the patio sofa beside you.
The cold breeze of the night engulfing the two of you though the heat of some Soju the eight of you had been drinking earlier was enough to warm you up from under the blanket you hid yourself in.
After a round of drinks to celebrate the beginning of the boy’s new album release date getting announced, and the soon to be endless practice sessions and meetings they would partake in as they were due to promote mostly in America. You excused yourself and sat on the boy’s dorm balcony to ground yourself before you would reside in one of their rooms for the night.
“Just… scared.” Namjoon answers honestly as he leans back on the sofa and you snuggle up beside him to share your fluffy white blanket to keep him warm. His hand came to rest on your thigh as he drew weird imaginary lines on your skin. It was something he usually did when you’d let him open up to you. His little fidget to calm the rest of his body as he focuses his mind on spilling out of his lips.
“Of what?” You asked softly as your ears were trained to hear any of his worries. You were always lending an ear for any of their vents.
You found that a relationship should always be a balance of listening and ranting. You would rant about your random events at work and some random topic you deemed interesting for a discussion whilst they usually vented to you about their tiresome schedule and music related rants. Of course your younger boyfriends would occasionally gossip to you too, though you considered that more of a past time for you to bond over rather than something that required your attention and ear despite not knowing much about what they speak about.
“Promotions in America are always tiring and difficult. I sometimes feel like I’m not allowed to say my own thoughts on a question because I’m always busy translating for them…” Namjoon avoids your eyes as he continues to keep his head leaned back and looking towards the balcony ceiling.
“But they’ve been working so hard on their English lessons. I’m sure they can help translate and answer in English now.” You reasoned to help calm his worries down though it did little to ease the leader.
“Yeah, but I still have to be constantly tuned in. I can’t slip up, and we’ll have to do it for almost a month straight. We’re leaving you here for a whole month…”
“You’re not leaving me, Joonie. You’re doing your job and promoting your album.” You tried to reassure though the man just looked down to look you in the eyes and you can tell the alcohol was slightly tainting him to be more emotionally vocal.
“Still, it feels like we’re leaving you. We’ll miss your birthday…” Namjoon frowns and you giggle at your boyfriend with a shake of your head.
“Babe, I think I’ll be fine. We can celebrate after you get back home. Just worry about doing a good job and making me proud.” You smiled as the man just nodded at your reassuring words and you let him bask in the silence of the crickets chirping in the night.
You were pretty sure he had even dozed off due to the alcohol and the time reaching midnight, though he immediately sat up straighter and offered to walk you back into the apartment where he opts to retreat in his room earlier than usual though you knew he was just a bit stressed from the planning.
You walked to sit on the sofa of the living room with Hobi. He was seemingly already dozing off whilst catching up on a drama he was watching and you placed your blanket over him as he seemingly opened his eyes a little hazy from sleep though smiling at your affectionate action.
“Wanna watch with me?” Hobi’s voice hums out as you glanced at the television though shook your head and instead leaned down to kiss his peach cheeks that came from drinking too much alcohol than expected.
“I’ll go make sure the three aren’t causing trouble. You rest up.” You whispered softly and the man hummed though he was already snuggling further into your blanket with closed eyes.
You smiled down at him before you took the remote and lowered the sounds of the television down and walked towards the panel of the Smart Home system installed in the apartment to turn the lights dimmer though not completely off.
After that, you walked past the dining room and kitchen to reach a small corridor where you can hear Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook’s laughter reverberating through the walls. After dinner and the drinking session they had excused themselves to Taehyung and Jungkook’s room, which you were sure meant that they would be drinking more considering Jungkook liked keeping a small mini fridge in his room in case he got hungry in the middle of the night despite having their room as the closest to the kitchen.
You knocked on the door and pushed it open to see your three boyfriends sitting on the carpeted floor between Taehyung and Jungkook’s bed with a board game in between them. Their faces turning to you as you flashed them a sweet smile though their faces looked like it was up to something mischievous.
“Hey baby!” Taehyung greeted you with a wide grin as he patted the space beside him for you to sit on.
“I thought you guys would be drinking some more in secret… not playing a board game. You could’ve played outside and the others could join.” You said as you sat criss crossed on the carpet and eyed your boyfriends.
Jungkook sat with a leg brought up his chest and another laying flat as he leaned on the side of his bed. Taehyung also leaned on the side of his bed though he sat criss crossed whilst Jimin sat in between their beds and directly across you with his back mere inches away from the bedside table though he didn’t lean on it.
“They looked tired already… and this game isn’t any normal game.” Jungkook said as you raised a brow at what he meant and looked down on the board.
It looked normal at first glance though when you really looked at the board and its contents you understood why the three had such mischief laced on their eyes. Your eyes then went to one of the pawns standing on a box that said ‘Remove a piece of clothing’ and you quickly scanned the room to see Jimin’s sweater discarded on top of Jungkook’s bed.
“Wanna join?” Jimin asked with this teasingly innocent tone as he flashed you a grin that seemed to challenge you.
Though you really liked the idea of their mischief, you knew that the night had been long and after the celebrations you would prefer to cuddle up with one of your lovers rather than fucking, but the expecting eyes of your three boyfriends were simply too much to reject.
Yoongi had told you plenty of times that you should start standing your ground when the three would be up to trouble though it seems like you can just never say no to the cute faces they give you when they plan something mischievous.
One time, the three of them planned to trick Namjoon, Yoongi, and Hobi by planting something on their computers that made it look like their files had been corrupted. After persuading Pdogg to help them figure out all the technicalities and you to distract their hyungs for a while the plan was on and it did not go well for the three afterwards. The three of your older boyfriends did not take to the prank as funny and had heavily reprimanded the three to stay out of their computers and studios until the end of time, as if it wasn’t already a rule. They also had a ‘serious’ discussion with you about allowing this behavior from them though you had defended them and told them that you weren’t their mother, they were also just having fun and you didn’t see the problem in that. Despite all this, the slight disagreement was fixed with nothing but a soft kiss on the lips of your stubborn rap line boyfriends and a smile that showed your pearly whites before you giddly walked out and into the comfort of the only lover that had laughed with you during the whole fiasco, though his windshield wiper laugh was definitely louder than yours.
“Fine… but I’m not sleeping with any of you tonight. You need to get up bright and early for tomorrow’s practices and I don’t want your staff sending me death glares because I gave you hickies.” You huffed though the three of them only laughed and Jungkook leaned towards you to plant a light kiss on your lips as Jimin handed you a pawn of your favorite color.
“Roll and move the amount of numbers you land on.” Taehyung explained as Jimin said “Simple,” with a pop of the letter ‘p’ in English.
You rolled the dice as it landed on the face that had six dots. You smiled, flashing all three of them a cheeky smile before you leaned and used an arm to support you as you moved your pawn six boxes from the starting line.
“Lucky.” Taehyung mutters under his breath as you assume that the pawn that was a box behind you was his.
“Strip a piece of clothing.” Jungkook says as they eye which part you’d remove, though luckily for you, you had Yoongi’s Fila sweater on. A sweater that he was sure he lost, though you had actually just forgotten to return after he left it at your apartment.
“Starting off easy.” Jimin says as you pull the sweater off from the top of your head, leaving you in a light gray cotton spaghetti strap top and your black and white dolphin shorts.
You thought you were safe, though the way their eyes looked you up and down made it seem as if you were practically naked. A realization dawning on you that you weren’t wearing a bra and the cotton material was probably not hiding much to the imagination. However, you only shook your head at how easily they can be worked up with your presence its as if they are constantly deprived of your appearance.
“I just realized how you rarely stay in the dorm without one of our sweaters on.” Jimin says as you handed him the dice since you don’t know who’s next though he easily forwards it to Jungkook.
“I like it. We should throw away all our sweaters.” Jungkook suggests as you shake your head.
“Your dorm is freezing from the air conditioning, so I would still bring my own sweater if you don’t give me yours.” You shrugged as Jungkook rolled for his turn at the same time Taehyung let out a ‘pfft’ sound.
“As if you even own sweaters.” He rolls his eyes as you flash him an offended face. You did in fact have sweaters that are yours though they fitted you terribly. One was oddly fitted where it was skin tight on your arms though loose on your torso and another reached your knees from a failed attempt of trying to replicate your boyfriends’ sweater size so that you wouldn’t keep borrowing theirs.
You threw your sweater on top of Jungkook’s bed with Jimin’s sweater. As you watch Jungkook’s roll stop on three dots. He reached forward to move his pawn which you now knew was the one ahead of all the other pawns before he landed on a spot that said ‘Safe’.
“Lucky.” The three of you all muttered and you all let out chuckles at how you were so synchronized with the one English word you spoke.
“You all share a brain now.” Jungkook commented as he passed the dice to Jimin.
“We said it with the same annotations and everything.” Taehyung said, somewhat proud at the fact that your minds were all synched, that you had muttered one English word with such wholeness.
Jimin threw the dice as the room quieted down once more and it landed on the face of one dot.
“Ooh, Jimin ah, you’re catching up to me.” Taehyung teased as Jimin moved his pawn one spot forward which made his pawn only four spaces behind Taehyung's and three from yours.
“Dirty talk for 30 seconds.” You read out loud as Jimin chuckled. Dirty talk was his forte, how unlucky for you. You really wanted to get out of this room with the pride of getting the three of them riled up with their shenanigans and you unscathed and sleeping with a goodnight’s kiss only.
“I don’t like counting time. Not when I know I can fuck all three of you all night.” Jimin said with a sultry voice and the sudden demeanor of the air in the room changed as his eyes ridded of the innocent wide look and settled to their siren shape.
“Wanna take Jungkook’s shirt off right now. Wanna see the muscles you spend more time working on than spending time with us. Want you to roll one on your next turn and land on ‘Strip a piece of clothing’ and lose to me, so that I can do whatever I want with you tonight.” Jimin says with his eyes fully taking in Jungkook’s figure though when he’s finished, he immediately turns his head to you and slightly tilts it to the side and lets his eyes run up and down your body.
“You’re not safe from me either. You might not want it now, but I know you’ll give in any other day, and don’t you fucking dare put on a sweater around the dorm anymore where I can’t see your cute little nipples through your shirt.” Jimin says with a grunt to his voice and you let your eyes look down and see how your nipples had perked up to the mention of them.
A slight fluster powdered your face as you realized that Jimin scooted closer to you to run a hand from your thigh to the cloth of your shirt though you immediately grabbed hold of it before it could do anything more than hover over your nipples. You looked into his lust filled eyes as he raised a teasing brow that seemed to beg for you to slap it off his face.
“No touching. It only says dirty talk.” You reminded, as Jimin lets out a chuckle and broke eye contact to look down before he brings his hand back and gathers his confidence back together for Taehyung.
“And for you… I want to remind you just how much I hate it when you forget your honorifics when addressing me.” Jimin leans towards Taehyung now, though he never places a hand on him due to your reminder earlier.
“I’m older than you Taehyung ah, remember that. I’m your daddy—“
“Oh hell nawh! That’s cringey hyung!” Jungkook interrupts as Taehyung bows his head down at the fact that laughter had erupted so suddenly from his throat. The four of you were laughing hysterically by now.
Hey, a daddy kink isn’t cringey. Don’t get Jungkook’s words messed up. More than one of your boyfriends have it and others have something somewhat similar to it and it definitely turns you on.
You guys were just laughing at how unexpectedly Jimin brings it up, and how from the beginning of his dirty talk with Taehyung, the younger already looked purple on the face from how much he wanted to laugh at the fact that you had reminded Jimin of the rules though he held his laughter to not ruin the mood. Jimin’s tone and inflection of the Hangul syllables also already sounded forced too huskily, unlike his normal dirty talking. So when he randomly stops his Korean to say the English word ‘daddy’ was simply more of a comedic script than something to get your lover riled up.
“Okay that was worse than what I could’ve done, but at least Jungkook got pretty riled up.” Jimin says as he leans back on the wooden bedside table as all your eyes point at Jungkook who shifted in his clothes uncomfortably.
“He’s in your mind already, Jungkookie. I can tell you're not winning anymore.” You teased as he shakes his head and shifts his posture to see the board more clearly from his laid back position.
“My turn!” Taehyung states excitedly as he throws the dice and lands on six.
“Yes!” He cheers as Jungkook groans at the fact that Taehyung was now in the space behind him.
“Give the opponent a one minute massage.” You read out as Taehyung turned to look at Jimin.
“One minute is too much! You know who really needs a massage right now?” Taehyung smirks as our eyes land on Jimin, and we all simultaneously agree that this box could be used for some good rather than something sexual for the sake of Jimin and his chronic back and neck pains.
“I got to a chiropractor now. You don’t have to this. Make the game sexual.” Jimin whines as Taehyung gets up and kneels behind Jimin.
As a dancer, it doesn’t matter how much you rest and warm up or cool down properly. Eventually, you will experience chronic muscle pains and the muscles affected depend on your technique. You realized that Hoseok’s technique has him heavily relying on his knees and ankles for movement and therefore his knees and ankles tend to flare up more often. You even give him special massages sometimes when the pain gets too bad though he often tolerates it better by taking a melatonin pill and going to bed to see his chiropractor the following morning. Jimin on the other hand loves to stay up late despite how his body feels. Undoubtedly, the muscle pains worsen through overworking and therefore Jimin handles it worse more often than not.
“Serio—“ Jimin’s words were cut off by a groan as Taehyung’s hand squeezed the skin on the base of Jimin’s neck. Jimin’s head fell limp as it leaned back to relax on Taehyung’s wrists as he continued massaging Jimin.
“Fuck. That’s so good, Tae.” Jimin moans as he closes his eyes in pure bliss.
As Taehyung moved to the different areas of Jimin’s neck and back one thing was becoming more apparent. Jimin’s moaning was definitely not from the massage but rather him teasing the younger by continuously praising him for his massage. A gruffed groan and a sound of silence from Jimin would usually tell you that the massage was good because it would leave him speechless, though with his never-ending moaning it became apparent that it was intentional.
“Yeah, yeah, right there Tae.”
“That’s the spot.”
“Yeah, feels so good~”
“You always know how to hit the right spot, Tae. Such a good boy.” Jimin slurs, as Taehyung snapped back to reality. The pet name was known to be one of his favorites, though it seems like Jimin saying it made him realize his hyung’s intent.
“Stop trying to seduce me, hyung.” Taehyung grumbles as he nudges Jimin’s back as a warning before sitting back down to his spot.
“Ouch! Bad boy!” Jimin scolds as he holds his back before cracking the joints of his own neck.
“🎶Da naeda beolyeo good boys gone bad~🎶” Jungkook sings the tune of TXT’s Good Boy Gone Bad song, as you turn to his direction and sing along the line three more times before Taehyung drops the dice on the palm of your hand makes you stop singing.
“How come you love to sing the songs of other groups instead of ours.” Jimin pouts as he crosses his arms.
“Jungkook ah, are you really allowing this behavior?” Taehyung asks as Jungkook flashes them wide eyes.
“I mean… it’s a good song.” Jungkook answered truthfully as I nodded my head with exaggeration before I rolled the dice.
“They’re your juniors, you should support them.” You reminded them.
“We do support them, but we just want our girlfriend singing our own songs.” Taehyung huffs as you found their slight annoyance endearing.
“Yay!” You cheered as the dice landed on the face showing five dots.
“How lucky are you?!” Jungkook asks as you pass his pawn and land on a box.
“I told you. Jimin got in your head, so you’re all losing to me.” You state proudly.
“French kiss each player for 15 seconds!” Jimin says with a grin as he leans forward as if he was waiting for you to lean in and makeout with him any minute now though your eyes were still busy reading the board.
“Nice one dummy. It says ‘French kiss a player for 15 seconds.” You corrected and Jimin looked at you confused as he leaned back to straighten his posture.
“Would you really choose to kiss only one of us?” Jimin raised a brow. No, and all four of you knew that you couldn’t and wouldn’t choose between any of them even if you were forced to.
“Then we’ll really know who your favorite is.” Taehyung teased as you rolled your eyes.
You wanted to bite back with something sassy and you were sure that they also watched you expectedly for a quick-witted or laugh provoking response though you held yourself back and instead got on your hands and knees as you leaned towards the oldest of the bunch to kiss.
Jimin’s eyes showed how taken by surprise he was at your response. His straight back leaned back and his hands went to the floor to support himself from the unexpected action, though in a matter of seconds he eased into kissing your lips back. Your tongue quickly entered the cavern of his mouth as his tongue did little to fight back due to how much control you’ve gained in the time that took him to process that you were making out with him. You can tell he wanted some control back from the way his posture started to push against you, though as quickly as it began you pulled away and left him chasing your lips for more though you already sat back into position.
You turned to face Taehyung now as he pouted his lips and you leaned forward to kiss him too. Starting with a small peck that elicited a whine to leave throat before you pushed your weight against him and made him lean further onto the side of the mattress of his bed. Taehyung definitely played more passively when it came to making out. It was just how he was most of the time. He was soft and gentle. In simple terms, you would describe him as a man who likes to make love and not to fuck, and to you that was damn fine. However, since Taehyung doesn’t fight for control in a kiss like your other boyfriends, he makes up for the fact that he loves skinship especially when it comes to kissing.
You can feel his hand slightly placing pressure on your back to continue making out with him as the other hovered over the skin of your arm. Both weren’t explicit places though you knew that with enough time that they’d wander, and as soon as the hand on your back began moving higher to your neck, you cut off the kiss.
“Hey, how come his kiss is longer than mine?!” Jimin said as you two broke away and a certain flusteredness came to your face as you realized the two had been watching. You should be used to it now, but it was still second nature to you as if all of them hadn’t seen your most vulnerable parts, even doing it together at times.
“If you kiss Jungkook like how you did to me, then you won’t be leaving this room tonight.” Taehyung warned as you went over to Jungkook’s side now.
The youngest had parted his legs for you to crawl in between with a smirk on his face. You leaned in and kissed him as he parted his lips and a familiar war of your tongues fought. You were pushing your weight on him bringing a hand to his chest to support yourself, though you can feel his hands that were placed on the floor loosen to make a move for your body. You quickly took both your hands to hold his down at the same time your tongue won the battle and a groan elicited from his throat as you parted from his lips.
“Baby~” Jungkook whines and something in your heart tugs to keep kissing him though you risk the possibility of not getting sleep tonight and you can tell your body isn't up to that right now. Your eyes would practically fall asleep right now as the alcohol catches up to you and the three had way too much energy for you to catch up.
“Okay, that’s it. Goodnight boys.” You immediately stood up as their heads immediately followed you.
“Huh—? What? Wait”
“We’re not done yet!” Taehyung says as he points to the board game.
“We can play another time. I’m really tired right now. It feels like I’m going to fall asleep any moment now. Plus, your practice…” You summarized your reasons as the boys frowned though replied with a synchronized ‘good nights’.
“And don’t stay up too late!” You warned with a double meaning as you heard their laughs from behind the door before you walked out the corridor.
That line really did feel like you were their mother, though in all seriousness you were just looking after them. It was a love language you developed after you learned to appreciate your eldest boyfriend’s care for you.
You walked past the kitchen and dining room as your eyes traveled past the dining table to see that the television was now turned off and the couch was empty. Hoseok had probably taken his leave for his and Jimin’s shared bedroom that was only a few steps from the living room.
You walked past the entrance corridor and onto a silent part of the dorm where Namjoon, Jin, and Yoongi’s room resides. You knew Namjoon was asleep though the light noise of a controller moving in Jin’s room and the subtle typing of a keyboard in Yoongi's room told you that your two eldest boyfriends were still awake.
You knocked lightly at Yoongi’s door and a slight breeze passed by you from the air conditioner in the hallway. A dawning realization set in on you as you realized you left Yoongi’s sweater in the boy’s bedroom and you feared that if you walked in now then you'd never come out.
“Come in.” Yoongi says as you pushed his door open softly and closed it behind you. He was on his desk with his laptop open, and a frown threatened your lips as you think that he was working even at such a late time in the dorm.
“Don’t worry, I’m not working. Just making a quick email for my mom.” He says as he turns on his chair to flash you a smile.
“What— I… How’d you know that I would ask that?” You stutter flusteredly from how well he knows you, and the fact that you remind him on a daily basis to take care of himself and to take some time from making music to live life and create stories to write about.
“Love, I know you. We all do. You’re always so caring and sweet. Always making sure that we don’t overwork ourselves.” Yoongi says whilst his eyes take their time to take in the sight of you. You subconsciously took the hem of your dolphin shorts to pull slightly down as if it would hide an inch more of your thighs.
Yoongi raises a brow and offers for you to sit on his lap with the tap of his hands. You huffed, though you still took steps to sit down on him. His black sweatpants and white oversized shirt smelled just like him with a slight hint of alcohol and nicotine.
“I’m not up to it right now, Yoongi. I just left your sweater at the boys’ room and if I enter their room again then I’d probably be wheeled into their dirty adult game again.” You turned to look at him with a pout as he let out a dry chuckle and brought a hand to pinch at your cheeks before planting a quick kiss on your lips.
“I know, love. I can feel that you’re tired, and that’s okay. Don’t let them push you into doing something you don’t want to—“
“What? No no, they weren't like that.” You defended the three as Yoongi nodded.
“I’m just saying… if one of us starts acting like a jerk towards you then there will still be six of us to come talk some sense into them.” Yoongi says as you giggled at that because in truth, none of them could ever be a jerk to you and all of you knew that. They loved and cared for you too much for that, and for as long as they do then they’ll never stoop down to treat you that way.
You leaned your body back to Yoongi’s chest as you sat in silence. Any other time and you would prefer to fill up the silence with some noise though you both prefered to bask in the love of silence. However, the sound of Jin’s gamer rage from beyond the concrete walls and you both chuckled at the oldest member’s incoherent mutterings.
“Now, which sweater did you say that you left in the boys’ room?” Yoongi raises a brow as you flash him a toothy grin.
“Uhm… actually, I think it was Jin’s sweater. I’ll go calm him down right now and tell him about it.” You stood up from his lap as he chuckled at you.
“It better not be my Fila sweater. I swear I haven’t seen it around anymore…”
“It’s not yours! I think it was Jin’s or maybe it's mine. I have my own sweaters too, you know.” You said as you awkwardly walked out the room with the sound of Yoongi’s chuckle being the last thing you heard before you closed the door.
You shook your head as you decided that you’ll eventually get that sweater when they all go to work in the morning. You walked to the door next to Yoongi as you heard another soft thud that sounded like a controller on a soft surface like Jin’s duvet.
You knock on Jin’s door as he hums for any one at the door to enter. You pushed the door to open and take in the darkness of the room that was only lit up by a warm lamp at Jin’s bedside table.
“Jin? Are you okay? What’s with all the noise?” You asked even though it was common knowledge that he often gets vocal when he plays and it has become a running joke around the dorm that whenever Jin loses a match of his games then he’d berate himself recklessly without actually taking anything he says to heart.
‘The Jin Mentality’ was what they coined it as. Similar to ‘Jimin today’ though Jin’s was actually a positive thing. Where you state all your wrong doings and berate yourself instead of hearing others berate you, but at the end of the day since you said all the words you can more freely choose to just not give a fuck about the things you said and deem it as bullcrap.
“Just gaming. You’ll sleep with me tonight?” Jin asks as he pauses his game and pats the duvet beside him as you close the door behind you and walk through his room to sit on the duvet.
“I’m sleeping here tonight.” You corrected as you laid your back down whilst your lower body hangs off the side of the bed.
Jin chuckles at your correction as he eyes you up and down before he returns to his games on the television mounted on the wall. He was seriously the only one of the members to install a TV in their room. A TV that came straight from his pocket though he considers it a big win since he’s the only one that can freely lay in bed and snuggle up to you whilst watching a movie, and it easily compresses any noise from his room considering how close the walls his rooms has with Yoongi and Namjoon.
“Did they tire you out today?” He asks in a more serious note though his eyes continue to flicker on the screen of the TV.
Despite the lack of eye contact and skinship Jin was giving you right now, you knew that his tone was one of sincerity and care. He was the one who had voiced out his worries for you in the beginning of the relationship. He was hesitant at first for this whole relationship to start considering they all somehow wanted your attention more than the other member’s and he was afraid that you’d overwork yourself in trying to be a lover to all of them. However, you quickly shut off his worries when you showed just how easily you blended into their schedules without overworking yourself too much. Though you would always notice how Jin typically doesn’t demand your affection as much when he realizes the others wanted your affection more, so that typically leads you to coming to him for affection as he mostly takes care of you rather than letting you take care of him or yourself.
“Maybe… Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook are playing this dirty adult game and I left my sweater inside their room.” You mutter as he nods and hums.
“You don’t have to—“
“I know, Yoongi keeps reminding me, but I actually really wanted to join.” You flashed him a toothy smile as you feel your eyes droop when he looks away from the screen to look down at you.
“You should sleep, sweetheart. I can see your eyes droop.” Jin says as he pauses the game and leans down to kiss you on the lips.
“You too…” You slur as you bring your legs into the bed to properly lie down on the pillows and under the duvet with the help of Jin to tuck you in.
“I’ll sleep once I’m done with this level. I’m not that tired yet anyways.” Jin says as he pecks your cheek with another kiss and brings the duvet over your shoulders just how you preferred it especially because his air conditioner faced towards his bed.
You blinked your eyes once more and shifted to see that Jin had magically teleported beside you with a knitted sweater that you knew was the color light blue with a white whale in front since he always lets you borrow it when you sleep in his room. Somehow the knitted yarn keeps you warmer than any other cotton sweater under his duvet.
You sat up and put on the sweater as the extra material gathered on your waist because you didn’t have the energy to properly pull the oversized fit over to cover your thighs. You smile at your sweater paw as Jin watches you with endearment. You open your arms as he leans in to kiss you once more before he pats your hair and whispers a goodnight. You smiled at him and scooted over to the side of the bed where it was pressed to the corner of the bedroom wall. Jin always made sure you slept on that side with the claim that he didn’t want you falling off though you suspected that he just didn’t want you escaping his room in the middle of the night without his acknowledgment.
You woke in the middle of the night, from a look out the curtains it seems as though it was still late at night though with a glance at Jin’s bedside table alarm clock, you knew that it was nearing two in the morning and Jin was still playing his game.
“Jin?” You asked groggily as Jin turned to look down at you.
“Sorry sweetheart, did I wake you up?” He asked though your eyes only flickered from his face to the alarm clock.
“Why aren’t you sleeping yet?” You asked as you held yourself up by your elbows to wake you up more though the sleepiness still loomed over you.
“Ah, shit. I lost track of time.” Jin muttered to himself as he glanced at the time. He exits the game and grabs the remote to turn off the TV as you watched on with a pout on your lips. He was definitely going to wake up with not enough sleep for tomorrow and you partly blamed yourself for not bringing him to sleep when you were going to.
“Jin~ I don’t like it when you don’t sleep on time.” You whined as Jin’s lips twitched to a prideful smile, though he only tucks himself beside you as he engulfs you in a hug.
“I’m sorry sweetheart, you know I don’t mean to. I promise I’ll sleep better tomorrow.” He kissed your forehead as you huffed and turned your back to him though you still snuggled your back to him. His body spooned you as his hands reached under the sweater he gave you. His cold hands settled to play with your boobs through your shirt though it wasn’t sexual.
You found it as his way to get just a little closer to you when you were sleeping. It was his way of showing you affection until the very moment you close your eyes. His hands would occasionally squeeze your mounds like a massage that would elicit a moan from you though you trusted him enough to not make it go further than that.
You woke up from a small streak of light that slipped past the curtains. Jin’s hold on you was looser now and he was lightly snoring as you let both your eyes take in your surroundings before you detached from Jin and sat up. You silently crawled out of bed by squeezing out the foot of the bed since you didn’t want to wake Jin up from his sleep. He needed to get as much rest as he could before his alarm would ring half past seven in the morning and currently he still had thirty minutes of rest to savor.
Before you walked out of the room, you quickly unplugged his gaming station. You figured that Jin had forgotten to turn it off last night and you didn’t want it to overheat. You then walked out the room and silently let your feet walk through the marble tiles of the apartment before you reached the kitchen to see both Hoseok and Namjoon conversing. Namjoon sat on the dining table with a cup of coffee as Hoseok seemed to be busy making his own cup of espresso with the coffee machine.
“Good morning,” You greeted with a yawn as both their heads turned to see you walk into the open layout room.
“Good morning beautiful,”
“Good morning, princess,”
They greeted in chorus as you stopped behind Namjoon’s chair to greet him with a morning kiss on the lips to which he smiled at before you walked behind the kitchen island.
“How did you sleep? I heard the boys were having some fun last night.” Namjoon asks as he watches you greet Hoseok with a kiss on the lips too.
“I only stopped by for a moment. I was too tired from the alcohol and celebrating last night.” You said as you eyed Hobi making a glass of his iced americano coffee. You can see Namjoon nod as he sips his own coffee and eyes the hallway towards his, Yoongi’s, and Jin’s rooms.
“You can have this one, beauty. I’ll make another one for myself.” Hoseok says though you shook your head.
“It’s okay, Hobi. I’m gonna go cook some breakfast for you guys first.” You smile as the man smiles brightly and leans to kiss you on the forehead before he moves to the side of the island to not get in your way.
“You don’t have to, you know. We can just order or call the staff.” Hoseok says though you only shake your head as you eye the contents of the fridge and opted to use some leftover rice to make some Kimchi Fried Rice.
You took out a container of Kimchi that Taehyung’s mother had sent for the boys to share and a tupperware of leftover rice that had been from last night’s celebrations. You also opened up the freezer to find frozen bacon that would be the perfect protein to their diet with added eggs. You placed your ingredients onto the counter before you reached up on your tippy toes to reach the cabinet with the frying pan you loved to use.
“Why do you always love to use this and not the one on the bottom cabinet?” Namjoon says right behind your ear as his hands sneak up to support your waist whilst the other reaches for the pan to get for you.
“My gosh, you scared me.” You said as you turned around and Namjoon smirks down at you before he places the frying pan on the induction stove on the island to heat up for you. You threw a playful slap at his bicep as you stood in front of the stove to pour some oil onto it.
Namjoon’s little playful act of always trying to scare you was one that you could never get used to and to be quite honest, it made you even more flustered at how Hobi had laughed at your shocked face before he continued to sip on his Americano with a bent back on the kitchen island.
“I like using it because it's my favorite color, obviously.” You roll your eyes as you feel Namjoon hover behind your back as Hobi tilts his head at you. He places his Iced Americano down and walks off somewhere behind you though your flustered state had made you keep your eyes at slicing the bacon into smaller pieces.
“Someone as sassy as you shouldn’t forget to bring simple seasonings when cooking.” Hobi says with a teasing voice as he places bottles of salt, pepper, and sesame oil beside you before he leans on the counter.
“Don’t stress her Hobi. Our tired princess didn’t even have fun with the maknaes last night because she was too tired.” Namjoon’s sultry voice speaks with a hint of seductiveness as he says the English syllables of ‘tired’ slowly from behind your ear whilst his hands rest on your waist.
A chill running up from your spine as you focused your eyes on cutting the bacon. Only once you were done with cutting the bacon did you realize that the two men had you trapped with the only escape being walking past the counter that had a sizzling stove.
“Guys…” You try to stop them though Namjoon’s voice has interrupted yours.
“We’re not guys.” He turns your body with an equal amount of force yet carefulness, as Hoseok moves the cutting board with a knife further from the edge of the counter before Namjoon pins you against the marble.
Namjoon’s lips were immediately on yours as your tongues fought in the midst of saliva. Then Namjoon had redirected your body to lean against Hoseoks as the man's hands took you by surprise and gave Namjoon access to your mouth.
“She’s so pretty in between us.” Hoseok huskily says to Namjoon as if you couldn’t hear his voice from being sandwiched in between them.
Namjoon pulls away from the kiss as you make an effort to breathe and compose yourself though Hoseok’s lips didn’t give you enough time as he quickly replaces Namjoon’s lips with his hands directing your neck to press against him. You can feel Namjoon's hand reach from under your sweater to travel under your shirt. His soft large hands caressing your body as he leans down to plant kisses on your neck.
“The stove–” You say as soon as Hoseok’s lips pull away from yours and all your faces turn towards the frying pan that was cooking up nothing but hot oil before a chuckle escapes from the dining room.
“Took you long enough. I thought I’d be the one to break up your makeout session just so that the dorm doesn’t burn down.” Yoongi’s chuckle reverberated through the dorm as Namjoon and Hoseok chuckled before withdrawing every bit of affection they had on you just seconds prior. Their vulgar actions caused a pit to nag at your stomach and a neediness for their lips to hide your now puffy ones.
“Good morning, Yoongi.” Namjoon and Hoseok greeted as they both went back to drink their coffees at the dining table whilst Yoongi came over to peck your cheek as a greeting.
He looks over the ingredients you had laid out before he quickly places your sliced bacon onto the pan to silence the boiling of oil. The chatter of Namjoon and Hoseok at the dining area was enough of a distraction for you to compose yourself from the makeout session and go back into cooking without another word as Yoongi chuckles.
“They're such big teases aren’t they?” Yoongi laughs as the blush on your cheeks doesn't stop you from nodding in agreement.
“Let me help you cook. You’re preparing Kimchi Fried Rice, aren’t you?” Yoongi clarified as you also nodded and he let out a laugh again at how you were struck wordless at such events in the early morning. Nevertheless, he helps you cook as you start to open up more from your flustered state.
[Back to the Present]
God, you weren’t going to cry again. Not when you felt as though you were juiced like a lemon from how dehydrated you were from secreting so much tears from your eyes.
You tried to breathe properly as Jimin sent you a text that they were already heading home thirty minutes ago, though by now you were used to them getting home an hour after they say so.
So here you were distracting yourself from your thoughts by cooking some Dak Kalguksu. From the texts in the groupchat, they seemed to keep good spirits throughout the day since Taehyung and Jungkook couldn’t shut up while hinting at some good news during their lunch break.
It broke you to know that this rare good mood would turn sour because of you. Because now, you were the one that can’t give them the love and affection you wanted to give, and you weren’t ready to receive love and affection in your current mental state.
Their voices rang through the hallway fifteen minutes earlier than you expected and from the sound of it, it sounded more calm as Jimin and Hoseok’s voice talking about new shoes were the ones that captured your ears first while they were leaving their shoes at the entrance corridor.
“Baby, we’re home! And no ones figh—“ Jungkook’s proud voice quieted as he sees your beige white suitcase, the one they had gifted you before bringing you to their trip to Japan a few months ago, at the end of the corridor.
“You brought some stuff over?” Jimin asks as he and Taehyung eye the luggage wearily before pushing past Jungkook to run to the living room and sit on the sofa with a relaxed sigh.
You looked away from the boiling broth cooking on the induction stove as you found a lid to cover your dish. It was just about to finish cooking. You just needed to make the Yangnyeomjang sauce that you knew Yoongi and Namjoon loved to add to their chicken though it seemed like you ran out of time. They would have to make their own later.
You looked up to see Jungkook cautiously eyeing your suitcase as Hoseok pushes him to sit down at the dining table with a laugh though a look that asks you the purpose of the suitcase getting brought out. Even Namjoon asks you of its contents as Jin just raises a brow at it, though seemed less bothered by its presence. Yoongi on the other hand just walked past it and took off his beanie to place on the dining table before he walked to the kitchen behind you to grab some water to drink.
They were still tired and it showed on their expressions, and what you hated even more was that the dorm wasn't even filled with arguing to help burn the fire that pushes you to answer their questions. All that could be heard was Jimin and Taehyung silently bickering on who would get the remote as the rest of your boyfriends sit on the dining table with little words to say to each other.
You cleared your throat and made your way to the other side of the counter where you could overlook the living room and dining room. Okay, this is it.
“I’ve been thinking about this since last night, and I— I hope you could hear me out fully…” You started, though the first part of your statement seemed to go unheard as Jin nodded and seemed to remember something.
“Ah, yeah! Right! I wanted to apologize to all of you about last night. I was being stupid and was just so tired that I wasn’t thinking properly.” Jin says quickly as Yoongi shuts the fridge door and sips on his glass of water on the counter behind you.
“We’re all stupid. We’re getting stupider each night with how exhausted we are when we come home.” Yoongi said as all of them seemed to hum in agreement. At least they’re self aware? Back to your poi—
“Oh baby! We also have some great news to te—“ Taehyung says excitedly as he stands up from the couch and lets Jimin take control of the remote with little to fight because of his excitement, though you really just wanted to rip off the bandaid and tell them your firm decision right now.
“I need a break.” You say loud enough for it to echo around the dorm, or perhaps your words had taken the men in such surprise that their brain had to replay it multiple times to understand it.
You closed your eyes and breathed out as you readied the words that were about to spill from your lips. Everything you had been feeling and how you were initially alright and capable of loving them despite these challenges spilled out of your lips with nothing stopping them.
You told them how through more nights, you were starting to lose yourself in the arguments and how last night you had made up your decision to take a break from them just for a little while. That your mental health needed this and that you would be staying in the provinces with aunt and uncle. That despite your love for them making you want to continue on in withstanding all their arguments, your mind can’t keep up and you need to be wholly ready to be able to give your all in supporting them.
Whatever your monologue was about made the boys scoff, though your voice stayed strong despite the sniffle that you heard Jimin make from the sofa.
“What?” Namjoon says as you look up to see their faces red yet not a single tear has fallen. Somehow that made you relieved. Perhaps they had understood your explanation and agreed with you.
“You’re running away because you can't keep up with our schedules?” Namjoon asks as the table erupts into different voices and opinions, even Taehyung and Jimin walk to the dining room to tell their own account of what they understood from what you said.
“No, Namjoon ah, she said she’s just not mentally well to handle us—“
“Mental health doesn’t excuse you from running away from us!”
“You can’t dump us just when we’re meant to stay focused for our comeback.”
“Hyung, she said break… not a break up right?”
“There’s a difference?”
“You’re leaving us?”
All this noise. Their voices had gotten so loud over each other that you couldn’t even hear your own head to try and get them on the same page.
It was just like every other night. Everyone never saw the same page and that’s how each and every one of your arguments started. No one was learning, no one was understanding, and it just proves that this environment wasn’t the place for you to get yourself back together.
So you left.
You left like a coward. You didn’t make an effort to bring them to the same page, and you didn’t make the effort to explain yourself clearer. You took off without another word with your luggage and everyone was too busy arguing about what you had said to even realize that you had left.
You left them, and you didn’t even know if they would understand that you still wanted to come back. You just needed to fix yourself, but now it felt as though you had broken up.
The boys never talked about what you said after that night. Perhaps they were still silently wishing that everything they heard was wrong and that you really were just taking a one or two day break without communication, or maybe they were too tired and busy to mention it.
They never mentioned how the dorm was silent whenever they got home. They never mentioned that the humming of your voice and the smell of your cooking weren’t there to greet their tired souls anymore. They never mentioned the fact that they knew that they needed to order dinner on the way home because they were silently praying that you were there cooking them a hot home cooked meal.
They never mentioned how your clothes and belongings seemed to disappear from their rooms. How your chargers disappeared from their place beside theirs. How the shirts you stole from them randomly appeared back to their wardrobes freshly washed and void of your smell. How all your skincare and haircare products disappeared from all their bathrooms, and the fact that they didn’t need to call a cleaner as often because your hair didn’t litter the floor after you would be done combing.
They didn’t mention any of it because they hoped you would stick to your words of a ‘break’ though now they were really beginning to question whether or not they heard ‘break’ or ‘break up’.
All of this was kept to rot in their minds until the last week they had in Seoul before their promotions. You would think they would be busier than they already were, but their management actually reverses psychology by busying the boys more in the last month before promotions and then cleaning up their schedules a week before to let them rest and let their anticipation build. It helps keep them excited for promotions rather than overworked.
This was what Taehyung had wanted to tell you about. They wanted to tell you how they were planning on taking you out on a date night before they went abroad to celebrate your birthday early… Now he wonders if they would’ve understood you better if he hadn’t interrupted you enough to make you interrupt him.
“Can we talk? Like all of us actually talk.” Namjoon says as they all sit blankly on the living room sofa whilst their eyes glaze over the show on the television.
“Yeah, I think it’s about time.” Jin says as each of them sat up straighter. Jungkook took the remote and lowered the TV to the volume close to mute as they all faced each other, yet avoided eye contact.
“So, about what Y/N said… let’s all say what we actually heard from her.” Namjoon took the leadership role as everyone nodded and he turned to Jin to start off.
“I was actually really excited when Taehyung wanted to tell her about our surprise that the first few things she said had gone over me.” Jin clarifies as everyone nods in understanding and stays silent to let him continue.
“But from what I heard, she said she needed some time off to get mentally better. I didn’t actually hear anything about what made her mentally break to the point of the situation getting like this, but yeah.” Jin explains as Taehyung furrows his brow to say something though refrains from doing it to avoid any altercation. They were going to have to listen to each other to get this shit fixed.
“She didn’t say what made her need a mental break, but she definitely hinted at the fact that we weren’t making a good environment for her to get better in any way.” Yoongi spoke up as he took it that it was his turn to speak since he was the second eldest.
“I didn’t hear a lot. It was kinda like what Jin said. Except I was so shocked by what she said that her words made sense when you heard them, but never actually processed in my brain. I’m sorry, guys.” Hoseok said as the six of them all nodded. They couldn’t blame Hobi, not when they all seemed to have some sort of dementia from that night. Their brains only process what happened before and after then turning into a mess when they try to recall the during.
“Before our busy schedules started, I talked with her about our schedule. I always did when I knew things would get busier and we couldn't give her 100%, just to give her a heads up to prepare and be aware. So when she said she needed some time away from us, I immediately jumped to the conclusion that she was running away from us. I already warned her for all of this and it wasn’t like this was the first time she had been with us after such tremendous work, so I thought she finally had enough of us and that this break was actually a break up.” Namjoon stops as his eyes never leave from gazing coldly at the edge of their coffee table.
Everyone was silent. Namjoon’s words always silences them. They were so filled with wisdom and thoughts with meanings beyond understanding that they really do place the effort to listen when it counts. However, none of their eyes could meet each other as they all formulated their own conclusion to what Namjoon was trying to say.
“Now that I think back on it… We were very much in the wrong. All of us. She asked us to listen to her for one last time and we should have taken that chance to properly hear her out and have a proper discussion on what we could do to make her stay… Instead we fought again. We did the thing that she claimed has made this environment with us so hostile that she can’t be mentally well in it.” Namjoon sighs as he feels tears prick at his eyes and all the members come to a silent understanding of everything Namjoon said.
For once in the past few weeks, they had finally silently agreed on the meaning of something, yet it didn’t feel relieving or accomplishing. It felt colder to know that they had done it too late.
“Can’t we still talk to her right now? Beg for her to come back and have a proper discussion with us?” Jimin pipes up as his face looks completely wrecked after the few moments of silence that they took to understand Namjoon’s words. Tear stains littered his cheeks and his voice didn’t seem like it was far from breaking out into a sob, yet he still mustered up the strength to speak his only idea.
“Has anyone texted her after that night?” Namjoon asks as everyone looks up to see if anyone raises a hand, though their hearts plummet to their stomach when no one does.
Everyone had been too pussy to text you. They all thought the other would do it and somehow bring you back to the apartment by themselves, though their reliance had now been their downfall. They were now angered. Angered at themselves for not making the move sooner. It had been two weeks and yet no one made the effort to contact you.
“Fuck, no one?” Yoongi says as he meets each and everyone’s eyes as they all told no.
“Fuck.” Hoseok mutters as he takes a throw pillow and hugs it to his chest before he leans back on the sofa to now point his gaze at the ceiling.
“Shit, do you think she thinks we just let her go so easily? Like we didn’t even text her as an effort to get her back? We just let her sneak out whilst we were arguing about what she sai—“ Taehyung’s rambling was interrupted by his own voice cracking and Jimin patting his back as the man himself looked like he was holding himself back.
“I’m angry. I’m angry at us for not even trying to text her. I’m angry at myself for thinking one of you had texted her already.” Jimin says as he finishes comforting Taehyung to now wrap his knees with his arms in a way to comfort himself.
“It’s not too late…” Jungkook suggests, though the silence that followed the reluctance they all had.
They were desperate to bring you back, but at the same time, you had asked for space and texting you so late into the break seemed like it was a brewing mistake. However, shouldn’t they try to fix their past mistakes by contacting you and showing just how stupid they had been.
“I know what you’re all thinking. You’re thinking that we’re too late. That she had probably made up her mind already about the break up because none of us went to immediately call her, but shouldn’t we at least try?” A tear slips past Jungkook’s eyes as his voice grows weaker, yet he pushes words out his vocal cords.
“Don’t we love her? Isn’t she worth fighting for?” Jungkook buries his head into the throw pillow he cuddled on the carpeted floor as he breaks into sobs that Jimin tried to comfort him out of.
But the youngest of them did speak the most fact. They loved you to uncountable amounts, so you are more than worth fighting for. They just didn’t know if they could still fight for you when they were two weeks late from the battle.
The boys all ate their dinner in numbing peace that night. Not a single argument or tease wanted to roll off their tongue, instead they were just talking. Talking about anything and everything, but the fact that they were missing their eight soulmates, their eighth piece to the puzzle of their small family.
It felt nostalgic watching each other play on the gaming stations they haven’t used in a month. It felt weird to dust off the balcony to sit on the patio chairs that were last used by you and Namjoon. It felt bone crushing when Jungkook went to his cupboard of board games to find something they could play, only to find their game of a sexy adult game on the top of the pile.
They weren’t blind and they all knew something was missing. There was this unmistakable silence when they spoke to each other, a missing note when they laughed together, a missing pair of feet padding around the house.
Jin tried his best to not show how these little subtle things got to him. The fact that there were nights where he gamed way too late despite their schedule because he lost track of time again and had somewhat relied on you to remind him that he needs sleep again. He also ignored the fact that he was currently gaming on the console in their living room instead of the one in his own room because it had overheated after he forgot to unplug it for a whole night. He thought someone else would’ve unplugged it for him, but then again you were the only one who unplugged it for him. These nights he finds himself slowly inching closer to the wall as he sleeps. He finds that the smell of your shampoo on that side of the bed is the only thing that can put him to sleep after a rough gaming session.
Yoongi on the other hand was the opposite to Jin. He could even say that he hasn’t thought about you much, due to the fact that he had been overworking himself restless these past few days. He figured that since he doesn’t have to greet you at the dorm then he could stay at his studio just a little longer and come home with his files in a laptop to continue working at. It was better this way, he would say. He avoided any arguments when they got home, and he kept his mind off you by doing the things that you had countlessly reminded him not to do. Despite managers even telling him to get some rest. He would never listen, and they knew that he wouldn’t listen because he only ever listened to you.
Hoseok, in the meantime had his whole sleeping schedule fucked up and everyone could see how badly it affects him on the daily. He missed how he would elicit a groan from you when he asked you if you’d join him for a morning jog, though somehow you’d still force yourself to get ready in less than five minutes. He missed the way you would let your boisterous laugh out when you were with him. He missed the way you would point at everything and anything when you jogged or went on hikes. He missed you so much that you were the only thing on his mind. The image of your face permanently embedded in his mind, to the point that there’d be times where he’d see you in the reflection of the mirror in their dance studio. He missed you so much in fact that he would enter the dance studio with only half his mind and the boys grew even more worried when they would mess up and Hoseok wouldn’t even bat an eyelash at them. It was as if he turned blind and void. He didn’t care if they were being sloppy with the choreography, as long as he did his moves with effort then it was up to the other choreographers and staff to berate the others on their mistakes.
Jimin, in the meantime, was a complete mess. The others would agree that he was the reason the staff had actually connected the dots of the fact that they were dumped, because Jimin had never looked as swollen as he did the first three days you left them. His low performance during dance practice even made choreographers turn the other way as they knew he was hurting though prefered to say their corrections softly so as to not hurt him more. He looks like he hasn’t gotten any rest and Hoseok knows that he hasn’t because he could still hear him tossing and turning on his bed when he would randomly wake up in the middle of the night. Jimin always had trouble sleeping. It was something that you couldn’t even fix, yet you always helped by taking out all his remaining energy or making him some tea, even the simple action of running your nails on his scalp helped soothe him to sleep. Now the problem had turned ten times worse when you weren’t here to ease him, yet you filled his mind and kept him void from closing his eyes for too long that he might think his vision of you was reality.
Taehyung was similar to his 1995 counterpart. However, his professionalism came on top and he would never even let a glimpse of his sadness show when he was in the HYBE building. It may seem like a good thing, but it really wasn’t far off as he would coop up all his sad thoughts about you until the end of the day where he’d stuff his face with every possible thing in the fridge to keep himself from sobbing, though it never worked. It never worked for when his grandma died or when they were all having a hard time during 2018, so it wasn’t going to start randomly working now. The food he ate could only suppress half of the pain he had inside. He missed you and your soft hair. He missed the way your fingers played with his locks and how he would return the favor by running his own fingers through your soft hair. The smell of your shampoo filling his senses as you would let him style your hair in any braid he had learned to do on youtube. The black hair tie he bought specifically to style your hair still tightly around his wrist. Waiting for you to come back as he finally learned how to do a Dutch braid this time around.
Jungkook, alternatively, seemed to be the least affected member of them all. He went along with his day fine. He joked with staff whenever the others seemed too busy in their heads during a meeting, and he acted oblivious to everything happening. He doesn’t spend much time at the apartment either for his hyungs to gauge how he truly was reacting to the situation. He started getting out more frequently. Some staff members even see him at the other side of Seoul, and when they would ask why he was there then he’d just shrug his shoulders and touch his mask. He’d take a look at his surroundings in case someone noticed that he was the Jungkook and then he would continue on his way. He would spend more time at the Hannam The Hill gym. He started going to more parks, malls, restaurants, and hidden gems in Seoul because he couldn’t bear staying at the dorm, not when you had practically lived and touched every surface of it too. He couldn’t bear seeing everyone upset, so he chose to distract himself with exploration. Perhaps in a different universe he was actually taking you there, he might’ve taken all eight of you there. Maybe, just maybe.
Namjoon wasn’t blind. He saw all of them suffer. He wasn’t blind to how he had suffered either. His lyrics turned more and more angsty as the days went by, and a longing to vent everything to someone weighed on his chest though it felt as though the seven people could vent to were also feeling the same problems.
Namjoon would get up in the middle of the night and walk near every bedroom door in the house. He knew when Jin was still up gaming when it was already two in the morning. He knew when Yoongi was still working on his laptop when he just came home from an extended three hours at his studio. He knew when Hoseok had woken up from a nightmare because of a small gasp that would sound from his and Jimin’s shared room. He also knew how Jimin barely slept because he would toss and turn every few minutes under his duvet. He knew when Taehyung would sneak out of his and Jungkook’s shared room to get a whole bucket of ice cream from the refrigerator freezer, and he knew when Jungkook would silently sneak back into their dorm after taking a mysterious late night walk.
Namjoon knew all of this was happening and yet he didn’t do anything to stop them because he thought this was what they deserved. They deserved this for neglecting you. They deserved to miss you, so that when they beg for you to come back then they would have surely learned their lesson.
“Good night guys, let’s all send a text to her tomorrow afternoon after our short schedule.” Jin says as all of them seemed a little more at ease when they retreated to their bedrooms that night.
Namjoon didn’t hear Jin play his games, Yoongi made his music, Hoseok’s gasp from a nightmare, Jimin tossing or turning, Taehyung sneaking into the kitchen, or Jungkook sneaking in and out. The dorm was entirely silent and peaceful for the first time in a long time.
Though Namjoon’s eyes stayed on one thing… his phone.
He shouldn’t break a plan, but he thought that they all had learned their lessons. What if they all get their hopes up only to call their eighth lover to tell them that they have been officially over for all this time.
He couldn’t bear to see everyone’s hearts officially shatter. He needed an answer now, so that he could at least get himself together by tomorrow in the case that they do get rejected and one of them needs to stay emotionally sober.
[1:27] Namjoon: Hey…
[1:28] Namjoon: I know it’s late, literally and figuratively.
[1:30] Namjoon: We really miss you. It’s been 2 weeks and we’ll spend our last week in Seoul with more time in our schedules. I don’t think we can go do promotions in America if we can’t get on the same page as you.
[1:32] Namjoon: I don’t think I can handle America without you. I don’t even care about management anymore. I just need you, and I would give anything to at least let all of us meet just for a moment to talk.
[1:33] Namjoon: I hope you’re doing well.
[1:34] Namjoon: You have your sleeping schedule fixed!! If the reason you’re not reading this is because you’re resting right now.
[1:35] Namjoon: We love you, princess. We miss you.
[1:37] Namjoon: Text me back when you can?
[1:40] Namjoon: Sleep well
Namjoon sighs. His eyes were starting to hurt and he couldn’t figure out if it was because of his tiredness, intense focus on his phone screen while the lights were off, or if it was from the sting that threatened tears. Whatever it may be, he avoids thinking about it by imagining you. Wherever you may be. Perhaps they should even go to your apartment, though what if you get even more angry? You did say that you needed a break from them.
It was now the afternoon of the next day. The boys had all been driven back to their dorm after dropping by the HYBE building to only get a printed file of their schedule in America.
They all seemed more at peace today. Their car rides felt more restful, though an underlying nervousness crept on its seams. They had all planned to send private messages to you by the afternoon. They knew your schedule, and they could only hope that it hadn’t changed from the last time you told them it changed.
They all sat in the living room as they all took out their phones and formulated what they should say. They were making sure to keep it personal to each of them, not too long, not too short, not emotional, yet not robotic. They needed to let you feel that they missed you without it coming across as overbearing. They wanted you to feel just how much they had learnt from their mistakes. They wanted to meet you even for just a moment.
Jimin thinks that a single glimpse at you could fix everything. It would fix and heal all of them like a drop of magical medicine.
So they all formulated for an hour, as a drama played on the TV despite no one listening to it. They all came together and made sure to say the right things before sending it all at different times. They weren’t stupid. They won’t send it all at the same time. They’ll send it in different minutes, because that’s logical.
[14:21] Seokjin: Good afternoon, sweetheart. How have you been? I hope you’re doing well. I hope you’re getting enough rest. It’s almost your birthday soon, and I actually had something planned for it since we would spend it in the states but I don’t know if that’s possible now. I want you to know that I’ll always be here waiting for you. Take as much time as you need, but when things get rough then don’t be afraid to call me or any of us. I love you, sweetheart. Don’t forget to eat well and drink lots of water. Take care!
[14:22] Yoongi: I’m gonna skip the bullshit. I know you have seven more messages to go and read, and honestly we’re all in the living room formulating our messages. This is the first time in weeks that we actually came together to work on something other than choreo and music. It’s damn impressive what our love for you makes us do. We need you back, love. Everyone is miserable without you. Even Hobi has gone to shits. You know I hate talking about other people or what you call it as ‘tea’, but I think this is something I would actually ‘spill’ to you about. Just come home. Come back to us. We miss you and will always love you. No matter what. If you need any help mentally, emotionally, or physically. We are just one call away, so please don’t be afraid. Don’t run away.
[14:23] Hoseok: Hey beautiful… stuff isn't too good right now hahahaha. I miss you by my side. I haven’t been jogging lately and you know how my ankles get when the only movement they do is intense dancing and walking. I need my jogging partner back, or if you don’t want to jog then we don’t have to. I just need someone to annoy, early in the morning. Jungkookie isn’t reciprocating my love of annoying him either. I think he’s been going to the gym more often because his muscles are definitely stronger than they were two weeks ago, so it’s kinda scary annoying him in the morning when his biceps alone could send my head swinging. The dorm has been unbearably clean too. No one’s making a mess like you do, so I have no one to berate. I can’t believe I’m saying this right now, but I miss your loose hair strands littering our shiny floor. I just realized that it definitely made the dorm a home instead of a shiny marble tiled showroom. God, I miss you. Just stay safe and I love you. Text us back whenever you can.
From: Your Hope
To: My Hope
“Namjoon hyung, it’s your turn.” Jimin says as the six of them look towards their leader though he only lets out a meek smile.
“I already sent her a few messages last night.” Namjoon smiles as the boys look at him with shocked faces.
“What?! Without us?!” Jungkook says.
“I couldn’t help it. I couldn’t sleep if I didn’t send it right then.” Namjoon shrugs as everyone understands and even thought that it could make the chances of you responding better.
[14:25] Jimin: Hi babyy, miss you. I know how you should always put yourself first, so I’m not going to ask you to come back. Not when you feel ready to get totally pampered by all of us. When you come back I’m going to kiss you everywhere that you’d probably have to detain me to keep me off you. We haven’t even finished our game yet. Let’s play again sometime soon okay? And my gosh, there is so much gossip you’re missing out on right now. Text me back when you get this ‘cause I need to vent all the info I learned from one of our new makeup noonas. Stay well and take care! Love you mwah mwah! Gossip soon!
[14:26] Taehyung: Babyyyy! Did you know the HYBE cafeteria was selling your favorite meal last week?! It was perfectly cooked and seasoned, I swear! I’ll tell them to serve it again soon so that we can both judge whether it's better than the place that we usually get it from. Speaking of which, I heard our favorite frozen yogurt place had opened a branch near Hyochang Park, so we should definitely give it a look soon! Have you been following the fashion trends still? There’s this ridiculous trend on pants that I’ve been seeing and both me and Hoseok have agreed that it sucks, but we’re still wondering what your thoughts are on it. It sucks when we don’t have your opinion to help us see more than what we see in our funnel vision. We really really miss you. I love you. Don’t get sick and try to get back to us when you see this!
[14:26] Jungkook: BABBBBYYYY!!! HOW HAVE YOU BEEN??? I MISSED YOUU, WE MISSED YOU! Yoongi hyung said that we needed to make our messages deep and meaningful, but really I just want to say one thing and it’s that we’re sorry. We really are. And I know Jin hyung specifically told us to not beg for you back because you needed time and space to yourself, but please come back. It hurts when you’re not here, and no matter what I do it doesn’t go away. Let me take you somewhere when you get back. I know a place where you can scream out all your frustrations and feelings so that you can feel better mentally. I know a place Taehyung hyung had been eyeing for a while, maybe we should go there together. It’s some frozen yogurt place that I know you both love and it’s near Hyochang Park and a hidden attraction of Seoul that I heard from Mingyu. We’ve gotten better too! Less arguments when we can all agree that everyone just misses you. It’s kinda funny cause if I can replay one moment in my life then it would be that night. I should have listened to you rather than arguing with my hyungs. I should have listened with both my ears fully tuned to you because now we’re all in this stuck and confused area where we don’t know whether or not we’re on a break or we broke up. Like that’s something so important to know, but we’re not even sure what we are to you, and we were too scared to even message you immediately after. We don’t even know if you got home safe that night, and it hurts me to know that we’ve been neglecting you like this for so long. You’ve been with us through multiple comebacks and you’ve taken it all with no complaint until now. Please, don’t break up with me— with us. Just come back. Come home, please? We know where we went wrong now. It hurts and I don’t think it’ll get better unless you’re here with me— with us.
After they all sent their messages they had opted to watch a movie together, whilst all their phones laid face up with their volumes on high in case you’d respond to one of them. However, as the day got later and staff came knocking to deliver their dinner, no messages from you came through to any of their phones. And when everyone had gone to prepare dinner, Namjoon took a look at his phone to see that even his messages from last night hadn’t been sent.
Had you blocked them? Or changed your number entirely? Shit, he really doesn’t want all of them to come over to your place to beg you and get into your personal space, but if you had blocked them they’d have no choice.
“Guys, did your messages even get sent? Mine aren’t going through to her for some reason. Did she block me?” Namjoon asked and the boys never missed the dejection in his voice when he said the possibility of getting blocked by you.
Hoseok, Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook left from helping set up the table as they went to retrieve their phone from the coffee table to open and see their messages.
“Yeah, mine didn’t send either. It just bounced back.” Hoseok says as the maknae line quickly enters their passcodes to see it for themselves, each of their faces saying the same thing.
“Did she block us?”
“She wouldn't, right?”
“She wouldn’t have blocked us if she didn’t properly break up with us.” They all said synchronously as Jin and Yoongi looked up to see the commotion and sent a look towards each other.
“No, you know she doesn’t do blocking shit.” Yoongi cuts in to defend your name as Jin clears his throat. The look they sent each other was to defend you, though he prefered explaining it rather than swearing it on their faces. They were at more peace with each other than they had been for a few months and the reason you needed a break was because of the countless arguments they had, and the negative environment they created. It was counterintuitive to argue over you, when the reason you left was because of arguing.
“What Yoongi meant to say was that we all know that she wouldn’t block us. Remember when that friend of hers had said multiple bad things behind her back and we told her to block them, but her sweet soul just couldn’t? She sees it as ‘rude’, so the fact that you guys are accusing her of blocking you means that you think she’s rude. Do you think she’s rude?” Jin asks and the room falls silent as everybody knew you wouldn’t block anyone no matter what they did to you.
“Besides, she needed a break not a break up. You don’t block people when you’re on a break.” Yoongi adds.
“What if she did break up with us and we just didn’t understand her properly.” Jungkook says as his eyes seem lost in his own mind.
“Or she’s slowly easing us into a break up… like she knows it’ll hurt us if she did so suddenly then maybe after a few weeks of this break she breaks up with us?” Taehyung speaks out as the room stays silent.
Everyone wanted to defend you. They wanted to tell Taehyung that he was wrong and that you loved them too much, though they were out of proof to tell him otherwise.
Hoseok sighs as he eyes the table that had been set up with takeout food the staff had brought for them. “Let’s just eat. Maybe she’s just somewhere without signal or internet today.” Hoseok says as he was the first to walk to the dining room table with Jin and Yoongi.
“Yeah… or maybe her phone broke.” Namjoon follows as the maknae line glances at their phone before leaving theirs on the coffee table with the rest of the phones.
“Hunger makes us overthink, right?” Jin laughs awkwardly as the rest nodded though the question of your whereabouts remained on their minds
Three days. They had three days left and the hope they had in you receiving their messages decreased by the days. The nagging for them to drive to your apartment grew and not even the eldest of them could stop the temptation. The only thing stopping them was how the staff kept a closer eye on them to avoid any unnecessary injuries or scandals to arise right before the promotions began.
They thought that they would go to the States and do their promotions with the question of when you were coming back nagging in their minds, though their prayers were answered this Wednesday afternoon.
The boy’s were separated in two black vans. Three on one and Four on the other since they only spent five hours at the HYBE building today and had none of their personal assistants with them. Everyone was preparing in packing up and getting ready for four weeks of promotions in America, yet all of the boys held on to the little hope that they could see you before then.
Jungkook sat on a van with his sleeping Yoongi hyung and a Namjoon hyung that was typing away a message to send to his personal assistant for the products he needed to be bought from the grocery stores for their trip. Jungkook on the other hand just enjoyed sitting behind his two hyungs as he watched the buildings pass by the window. His phone was in his pocket and his head leaned on the glass of the window as nothing but the wheels turning and the engine working sounded in the van.
He was sure he would fall asleep any moment now, though the light vibration from his phone on his pocket had woken him up from dozing off. He took out his phone and checked the message as he was expecting his own PA to ask him for a list of things he needed. He even had a list written on his notes app already, so all he needed to do was copy it and paste it into their Kakaotalk chat.
However, a message from his PA was not what made his phone buzz. It was you.
Jungkook felt his heart skip a beat. Multiple beats. It felt like he was having a heart attack at the way the sound of his heart pumping was all he could hear as he tapped on the message notification you sent.
[17:35] Y/N: Jungkookie, why are you all sending such long messages?? You know I hate reading long ones 😭
[17:36] Y/N: I just got back to Busan city. Let me read your essay first, so that I can respond.
[17:37] Y/N: It better have good grammar HAHHAHAHAH.
You were laughing? Did you seriously laugh when… well you haven’t read their messages yet, and from the look on Hoseok’s face it seems like you haven’t responded to theirs yet either. Jungkook figured that his message was the one sent the latest since he was the last to send his, therefore he would be on top of your chats.
What did you mean that you just got back to Busan city? Why were you in Busan? Why are you so chill and laughing on chat? And why were you cracking jokes on how his message is so long that it could be an essay? Jungkook just couldn’t understand and his mind was simply too shocked to even tell his hyungs anything, so he waited.
He waited until he saw your bubbles appear to indicate you were typing something, and he watched when it would disappear for a while before coming back to type some more.
[17:47] Y/N: What the hell?! Jungkook, what do you mean break up??
What a short response after you seemed to have been typing for two minutes. Jungkook didn’t know what to respond. He was in shock, or maybe he was having a ture heart attack. He was dying or perhaps he was already dead, and his mind was playing hopeful games on him.
[17:49] Y/N: What do you mean Yoongi and Jin said something-something? I have to get to my hotel first, but we’ll talk about this later. Only us, I don’t like Jin and Yoongi telling you what you should or shouldn’t say. What are you guys doing?
You sounded strict despite messages not explicitly holding emotions, and suddenly Jungkook had to swallow a lump stuck in his throat. Hotel? Will you actually talk about the message later or are you saying that to avoid talking to him? God, he shouldn’t be thinking about this when he knows you wouldn’t do that to him or any of them. So instead he replied with a simple ‘okay’.
Typical Jungkook, because he was always one to be simple in his texting.
Jungkook waited. Patiently, he waited. Until the hours of the evening and when the members had planned to game in the living room. Jungkook waited with patience. After Yoongi excused himself to have some time alone, Jungkook also followed and claimed he wanted some fresh air because all this waiting was silently creeping up to his bones and muscles.
He could feel himself fidgeting and he knows Jimin sees it too. He should have probably told them about how you have internet now and probably read their messages, but something about the way you said ‘Only us’ made his tongue stuck in his throat. It suddenly felt like this was his first time talking to his crush and not his faithful partner and love of his life.
He walked around the hill for a few minutes with his head buried in his hoodie and a cap hiding his face under the stars of the sky. He was trying to calm his nerves.
Why was it taking you so long to get to a hotel? Why were you in Busan? You had no family in Busan, so why are you there? Since you’re talking to him does that confirm that you didn’t break up wi—
A buzz came through his phone and he almost dropped it as he took it out of his pocket to see that the notification had your name on it. He breathed out a breath of cold air first before he pressed it and read your message.
[20:07] Y/N: Jungkookie, sorry it's a bit late but I had to take care of some things before I could talk to you.
[20:07] Jungkook: Don’t worry about it, baby.
Jungkook’s breath hitched as he realized that he might’ve been overstimulating you by calling you ‘baby’ immediately. What happened to taking it slow and making sure they were there for you, so that you can determine that they care about your mental wellbeing?
[20:08] Y/N: Can we call? I need to talk to you properly and my fingers are tired from typing.
Jungkook chuckled as he sent a thumbs up emoji before he accepted your audio call. He placed the phone against his ears as he was about to say ‘hello’, though your voice beat him to it and greeted him first.
“Kookie?”
Your voice felt so foreign, yet sweet and melodic. Something he had yearned for too long that he could cry knowing all the nights he wished he heard it one more time. Your voice carried weight, though Jungkook’s mind went blank at comprehending any cues. Your voice held worry. Why were you all sending such long messages and why was Jungkook hurting?
Oh shit, was he crying? His mind finally caught up after getting lost in your voice. Something wet rolled down his cheeks as his nose sniffed and you repeated the call of his name.
“Yeah, baby. I’m here.” Jungkook responded as another tear rolled down his cheek and he didn’t do much to stop it, but to sniff his nose.
“Are you crying? Are you alright? What did you mean in the message? About Jin and Yoongi telling you what to do in your messages with me, and you hurting? Why are you hurting? Who hurt you, baby?” Your voice said in chorus, however it carried all the care that Jungkook had longed for in the past weeks.
Jungkook was fully sobbing into his phone now as he sits himself on a nearby bench, scared that if he doesn't sit then his body might collapse. He doesn’t really know why he was crying. I mean he finally got his wish of hearing your voice one last time, yet the care you had in your tone and your endearment through your words made him realize just how much he missed your voice.
“Jungkookie, I need you to calm down okay? Who’s there with you? Are any of the boys there?” You asked as Jungkook shook his head. No one was here. That’s what he liked about walking around Hannam The Hill at night. Usually people would be inside eating dinner or resting now, and they had the tightest security that not even his favorite food deliveries could enter and would require a staff member to pick the food up for them instead and deliver it to their dorm.
“No… I’m— I’m out for a walk right now… I missed you…” Jungkook whispered the last part more so to himself, though you heard it clear as day.
“Kookie… can you explain to me thoroughly what you meant in your message?” You asked softly as Jungkook forced his sniffles away to tell you everything.
He let it all out. About all his hyungs and him wanting to apologize to you and how much they’ve struggled without you. How they were all miserable during their practices, yet they all sucked it up for the promotions.
He told you how Jin would come out of his room with eyebags from forgetting to sleep because of his games, and how Yoongi already had three songs in the works because he was overworking himself day and night again. He told you how Hoseok wasn’t doing well with the choreography and didn’t even care when the members got something wrong. He told you how Namjoon had been an overthinking mess and was practically observing all of the boy’s moves. Namjoon might think he’s sneaky, but Jungkook is aware of the fact that the leader stays up until he gets back to the dorm after his adventures. He told you how everyone in HYBE has a little clue that the seven of them were dumped because Jimin came in with the most swollen eyes that night you left. He even joked how Jimin must’ve told you something about the new gossip in the building, but left out the fact that they were part of the topic in hand. He told you how Taehyung had been getting really careless with the stuff he eats, and that he had even tried out some new candies from his hyung’s cravings that were stashed in their bedroom mini fridge.
He told you how their fighting stopped when they didn’t have to sit down on the same table to eat dinner. They didn’t have you to gather together for, so what stopped them from eating in their rooms? He told you how they had their first agreed discussion because the subject of the topic was you.
He told you everything and he knew his hyungs would call him a snitch afterwards, though he didn’t care. If they weren’t going to beg for you, then he would for the rest of them.
“Jungkookie… I— I…” You were at a loss for words as you took in what he said and opened up another tab to see all their long messages.
“That’s why we need you back, baby. It hurts. It hurts me to see them like this, and it hurts me more to know that we’ll forever be incomplete.” Jungkook said as swallows a lump in his throat to stop his emotional rant. If you broke up with him now then at least he knew he did his best.
“Jungkook ah! Did yours get seen too?” Taehyung’s voice shouted as soon as his eyes landed on the youngest member entering the dorm through the entrance corridor. The other six men in the room turned to see what the youngest would answer.
“Huh?” He asks as he removes his mask and walks to where his hyungs sat in the living room.
“Has Y/N seen your message already?” Jimin says as Jungkook eyes all their opened phone screens. He checks his own phone and sees that his long message did get seen and nods as he eyes the rest of the men.
“Wait! Mine just got seen too!” Taehyung jumps up from his seat as he shows his phone screen to everyone. Jungkook lets out a small chuckle to himself. His hyungs reaction to getting his message seen was so different from his silent heart attack. Taehyung’s smile never looked so bright despite the unsureness of the situation.
“Baby, called me earlier…” Jungkook breaks the ice as all his hyungs turn to him with curiosity in their wide eyes.
“When?”
“What.”
“Huh??”
“Earlier?”
“What did she say?”
“Why didn’t you tell us?”
The boys spoke synchronously as Jungkook closed his eyes and tried to roughly summarize the events of the phone call.
“Baby, saw my message earlier in the ride back to the dorm and told me we needed to call privately—“
“So that’s why you were so fidgety and walked out.” Jimin interrupts as Namjoon takes this statement seriously and sends an even more intense glare to the maknae.
“I didn’t intend to keep the call secret, that’s why I’m telling you now…”
“You tried to hide the fact that Y/N saw your message already when I asked you. Do you call that being honest?” Taehyung bites back a little angry at being left out at some very important information, and he wasn’t the only one feeling this way.
“No, I—“
“Jungkook ah, you are going to be honest with us, won’t you?” Hoseok speaks up as Jungkook’s eyes widens and he was about to tell everyone that he would be completely honest to them. However, a few more boys spoke up about Jungkook’s honesty.
“Can we really trust him? He has been sneaking off lately…”
“Jungkook, this isn’t just something to be light about. We need every detail honestly as it was, because this isn’t just about your relationship with her, it's ours too.”
“I can’t belie—“
“God, can’t you guys listen for once?! I’m telling you that I’ll tell the truth, but you haven’t even let me speak for once. Was this how we treated Y/N that night, because I’d definitely leave any moment now.” Jungkook’s loud voice spoke as the room went silent. Jungkook takes a breath in to clear his mind before he continues. It didn’t matter if his hyungs took his words seriously now. He just wants the events out before any altercation.
“Baby called and said something about spending some time in the provinces outside Busan with her aunt and uncle.”
“With her favorite cousin?” Hoseok asks as Jungkook nodded.
“Yeah that one. That’s why our messages were getting bounced back. She saw mine first when she finally got signal because mine was sent last, and she said she’d call me and talk about it ‘cause I kinda went overboard with my message…”
“I knew you wouldn’t follow what I said.” Yoongi massaged his forehead, though gestured for him to continue.
“Yeah… I continued to not listen to you in the call either because I kinda dumped everything I’ve noticed us do without her and begged for her not to dump us…” Jungkook straightens his lips as he thinks back at how he got carried away exposing their weakest parts in a phone call.
Jin slaps his own forehead and Yoongi’s jaw drops as he contains his emotions by closing his eyes. Namjoon and Hoseok had their mouths open as Jimin and Taehyung looked at the youngest like he was crazy, though turned to each other to help keep their chuckles held back as they could already imagine your face when Jungkook vents out.
“Jungkook ah, what exactly did you tell her about Jin hyung?” Jimin asks as he leans on his elbows from his seat on the couch. Jungkook looks down at where Jin sits at the edge of the couch furthest from where he stands and swallows.
“I told her about how Jin hyung plays all night and forgets to sleep…” Jungkook’s voice was meek though it was enough to send Jimin and Taehyung laughing to lean their head at the back of the couch.
“And what did you tell her about Jimin?” Jin challenges as Jimin snaps out of his laughter and stares into Jungkook’s soul.
“I told her about how the entire HYBE building knows we got dumped because Jimin hyung came to work with the most swollen eyes…”
“Yah! Were you looking for a fight?!” Jimin threatens as he stands up with a fist ready to fake a fight, though they were all silenced when Hoseok’s serious voice speaks from the laughter of Jin and Taehyung and pulls on the fabric of Jimin’s shirt to sit him back down on the sofa.
“How did she respond to your confession?” Hoseok asks as Jungkook drops his head to gaze at the floor and all the members’ hearts sink to their stomachs. Fuck, what else would elicit that reaction if not the news that they were truly dumped.
“She said that she wanted to meet us, so that she could talk about it face-to-face.” Jungkook says as Namjoon carefully runs his hand through his hair.
“Talk about what?” Namjoon asks as Jungkook shrugs his shoulders.
“Jungkook, be honest.” Yoongi warns as Jungkook looks up to meet all their eyes.
“I asked her what she wanted to talk about but she just said that we’d talk about it then. All of us will go. If we can…” Jungkook says as Jin, Yoongi, Hoseok, and Namjoon collectively look at each other with furrowed brows.
“Right, we’ll meet with her tomorrow, and beg her to come back!” Jimin says as if it was the most absolute plan.
“How do we know that Jungkook is telling the truth? What if this is some sick joke?” Taehyung speaks up as Jungkook looks offended at the statement.
“Would I joke about something like this?” Jungkook asked as the room silenced, though the sound of their phones buzzing got all their heads turning towards their phones.
A message from you.
[20:59] Y/N: Jungkook told me everything and I saw your messages. Let’s meet up sometime soon? I’ll be in Seoul by nine in the morning tomorrow. When are you guys free?
Everyone had quickly jumped to their phones to begin typing a response, though Hoseok quickly halted everyone.
“Are we even free tomorrow? Weren’t we supposed to have a meeting over our visas and papers for America tomorrow? We have less than three days.” Hoseok voices out his worries as Namjoon licks his lips and looks at all the boys that had their eyes on him. His brain has already begun formulating a plan that would satisfy all of them.
“I’ll message management and reschedule our meeting in the evening. Y/N comes first.” Namjoon says the last sentence as a fact that they all agree on as messages in response to your message flowed through their group chat.
The date was scheduled and some relief filled all their bodies. However, none of them were sure if tomorrow’s meet up with you would bear good or bad news.
You entered the restaurant that you and the boys both loved going to. A familiar staff of the restaurant leads you past regular tables to their private rooms. It was uncommon to have private room bookings early in the day, especially on a weekday so the restaurant was fairly empty and you were led to one of the largest private rooms the restaurant had.
Although your time helping out your aunt and uncle after your cousin’s death had been healing, and gave you closure from the untimely death, that didn’t mean that you hadn’t missed your boys. Your seven lovely men that you loved way too much for it to be healthy.
You thought about your actions and partly took the blame for walking out so abruptly, though when you read their messages and heard from Jungkook everything that they had been doing without you, you couldn’t help but feel a little angry at how they clearly were relying on you to take care of themselves.
That’s why you called to meet them. You were sure the break would last at most a month and spending time away at the province had healed your mental despair, so you weren’t about to ignore them just as they’ll leave for promotions. Namjoon said it himself, he can’t handle America without you as a support system and surely the boys need someone to help ground them too, but that doesn’t mean that they can let go of themselves just because you weren’t there.
You knocked on the traditional wooden door before you slid it open and peaked your head to see the seven boys staring at you with wide eyes as they stood up from their seats. You took a step into the room and closed the door behind you. Part of you had expected all of them to jump at you, though they all stayed in their spots seemingly cautious of your presence as you turned to face them.
They were wearing relatively relaxed outfits as you didn’t even get to change from your train ride from Busan. You wore denim high-waisted baggy jeans with a gray fitted long-sleeve top with a puffer jacket of your favorite color and a beanie that matched it. A standard outfit, though it made you feel a bit overdressed when you see that Jungkook and Hoseok were wearing literal shorts.
“Hey… sorry I’m a bit late. I ran into some traffic on the way here.” You smiled at them whilst you removed your coat and beanie. Jin had immediately come to your side to help take your coat and hat off to place to the side whilst greeting you with a cautious kiss on the cheek to which you smiled at.
“No worries, we just arrived too.” Namjoon smiles, though the rest of the members knew for a fact that they were here half an hour early just in case you were early.
You observed that the table had exactly eight seats. Jimin, Taehyung, Jungkook, and Namjoon sat on the left side and Hoseok, Yoongi, and Jin on the right side. The only available seat being the one in between Yoongi and Jin, so you slowly walked towards it. Each step reverberated against the walls and it was starting to feel suffocating in the large private room.
“Someone please talk, this is getting awkward.” You spoke with a chuckle at the end as the men all laughed and Yoongi greeted you as you reached your seat.
“We just missed you, Love.” Yoongi says timidly, though as his hand snakes its way to your waist and you make no move to inch away from it, he warms up and flashes you a smile and kisses your cheek. His lips were warm and soft on your cheek and two kisses from your eldest boyfriends instantaneously placed your heart at ease.
“I think ‘miss’ as a word doesn’t describe how we felt.” Hoseok says behind you as you turn to greet him with a hug next. Your arms slotted right around his torso as his arms wrapped around your waist and he leaned down to place a peck on your forehead.
“Baby~ we want kisses too!” Taehyung says from across the table as you turn to face them and their whole side of the table quickly walks towards your seat. They seemed more at ease now that you hadn’t shown any hint of being uncomfortable or overstimulated from their words or actions. However, there was still an underlying emotion under their eyes that you couldn’t quite identify.
Once everything was settled you all sat down and let your eyes roam over the food on the table. Plates of meat circled around the grill in the middle of the table. Small plates of side dishes and other dishes scattered for everyone’s access. It reminds you of the small pack of biscuits you had eaten nearly five hours ago since you had slept the entire train ride from Busan to Seoul.
“Let’s eat first? I think everyone’s hungry.” Jin offers the idea to everyone as you just noticed that he had been eyeing you hungrily taking in the food on the table the entire time.
Everyone hummed in agreement as you watched them slowly take some meat to place on the grill. Your hands joined them as you swallowed and looked around to see if any of them would start talking.
“So… How come you’re free right now? I thought you’d be busy with last minute preparations for promotions.” You said as you took a tong and placed some meat on the grill, though Jin was already beating you to it and took the first cooked meat on the grill to place on your bowl.
“That’s what I actually wanted to tell you about that night. We wanted to have dinner with you before we went to America. Something like celebrating your birthday in advance.” Taehyung says as before he chews on a gimbap.
A sudden realization hitting you as all you needed was a night of being back to normal to get mentally better. Perhaps if you were patient enough….
“I’m sorry abou—“
“You did what you had to.” Yoongi cuts you off as you turn to look at him. He leaned back on his chair with his arm laid on the back of your seat.
“I think Jungkookie has told you everything already, so you would know that breaking up with us taught us a few valuable lessons.” Jimin says as he drinks on a glass of coca cola and throws a glance at the youngest labeled ‘snitch’.
“What? Break up?” You asked as you furrowed your brows and looked around the table to see that the boys all looked at you with varied expressions of looming sadness
“Yeah, you said you needed a break but really it’s easing us to a break up. We’re not stupid baby.” Taehyung says a bit tense, though Jimin’s hand on his shoulder had eased him to calm down a little.
“What?! I never and will never think about breaking up with you. Unless you guys want to.” You said as you looked at them in disbelief.
“What no! Never!”
“Never, baby!”
A series of disagreements filled the table as they all silenced when Namjoon’s authoritative voice bloomed amidst the sea of uncompensable words.
“We were meant to beg you to stay with us during this meal. What do you mean you aren’t breaking up with us?” Namjoon says as you chuckled and threw your head back to rest on Yoongi’s arm.
“God, no. I said I needed a break. I was mentally exhausted after my cousin died, that’s why I went to the provinces for two weeks and got some needed healing and help out my aunt and uncle. You guys were always tired so I figured you also needed a rest from me.” You said and the boys all collectively blinked at you as if they had finally gotten to the same page as you. However, a looming sadness washes over them as they process the news of your grievance.
“Don’t tell me you didn’t understand me from my explanation that night. Were we not on the same page for almost three weeks?” You asked as Hoseok cleared his throat.
“Beautiful, you are our rest.” The lead dancer said as Jungkook raised a finger to pipe in.
“We were somewhat on the same page…” Jungkook says as Jimin and Taehyung nod to support his statement.
“We knew you needed mental rest, but we all got convinced by Taehyung that you were eventually turning this break into a break up. We didn’t— we didn’t know about…” Yoongi trails off from beside you as you abruptly stop leaning on his arm and catch his eyes with a hint of grief with you.
“God, you guys are stupid. Namjoon, did you really leave them to think like this?” You ask towards the leader as he just shrugs and keeps his eyes on the food in his bowl.
“No wonder you were all miserable. Why didn’t you at least contact me— ah shit, I’m part to blame too. I shouldn’t have walked out on you guys.” You said more to yourself as they shook their heads to dismiss your apologies.
“It’s not your fault. We just weren’t listening. We were too busy being full of ourselves and fighting. We didn’t know you had to grieve by yourself.” Jin says and you massage your forehead with a hand that leaned on the table as silence engulfed the table once more.
“I’m so sorry for your loss…”
“We all are sorry…”
“H-How did it even happen? They were so young.”
“I don’t really want to talk about it right now…” You said silently as they all watched as you shook your head whilst rubbing circles on your forehead. You let out a chuckle though it wasn’t one that they could laugh with.
“I wanna focus on this funny mess. I mean… at least you got your fighting sorted, that’s what Jungkook said to me last night at least.” You said and their lips spread into a smile and some even let out a chuckle and a nod of their heads. You were done grieving and you practically spent two weeks of grieving, so you really needed something else to think about. And the topic of your dumb miscommunication and stupidity seemed like the best distraction.
“Don’t think that I’m not mad by everything Jungkook told me. Jin, you ended the message you sent me with ‘take care’ and from what Jungkook told me, you were barely sleeping because you’ve been gaming too much again. Yoongi, you know how much I hate it when you overwork or bring your work to the dorm even after hours of working in your studio. I can’t always be there to remind you to take care of yourselves.”
The men that sat on either side of you pouted at you though your face stayed stoic.
“I’m disappointed. Now, I can’t even show my face in HYBE because everyone thinks I dumped you and if you don’t do well in your promotions then the blame is on me.”
“It’s not your fault, baby.” Jimin says comfortingly though you send him a glare that quickly quiets him.
“Is it true that the gossip you were teasing in your message is about us?” You asked as the man forced a smile and sent glare at Jungkook as the younger avoided eye contact from everyone.
“I’m going to sort this out somehow. I just need you guys back in shape to perform.” You shake your head as you pick up a piece of pork to chew on and the table goes silent once again.
“You know…I’ve been thinking for a long time and I feel like this would be the best moment to ask for it, but do you want to go to America with us?” Namjoon speaks up as all eyes go to him and to you.
You were taken aback by the question. It was one of the few rules that management had for your relationship with them and now they were asking for you to break it.
“We missed almost three weeks from you and it feels like we’ve missed everything, and it’s almost your birthday so why don’t we celebrate it there too?” Namjoon was smiling as you stared at him like he was delusional.
“Joonie, as much as I want to, your management would—“
“If you’ve read my message then you would know that I don’t care. I don’t give a fuck if the media sees us. I need you, and I speak for everyone if we haven’t gone abroad and thought about how it would be if we went to those places with you. We can book you a ticket from our personal money if we have to. We’ll sort out your accommodations and everything. All you need to do is say yes.” Namjoon asks as all eyes settle on you.
You swallow a lump in your throat and weigh out your options. If you were caught then your name could be out there, and were you ready for that? But they all looked at you with such hope in their eyes and the sound of exploring new horizons with the loves of your life seemed like a dream. They said it themselves, you were their rest, and it seemed like the best way to catch up on some needed loving.
“I just came from Busan, I’m tir—“
“Y/N, it’s a yes or no, please.” Namjoon says and you swallow with a nod as a smile creeps up your cheeks. The boys began smiling brighter right as you said ‘yes’.
“I’ll get it sorted then. We have a meeting later and I’ll bring it up.” Namjoon smiles as the dinner table erupts with cheers and it breaks off to conversations about what they’d be doing there during their free time with you.

Around Busan
Sources of Information included in this chapter are from:
Gamcheon Culture Village Wikipedia
Some environments have changed by the time I wrote this to the time specified on the story so it might be a little confusing seeing something that didn’t exist in 2020 though please bare with me for the details 🫶
(If any information is proven false, please do not hesitate to comment and inform me of the mistake. Let us avoid spreading false news, thank you <3)
I was born and raised in Busan. We were all born and raised in Busan. Yes, the Seong sisters had just arrived after years of being away from Busan, but it wasn’t like we hadn’t had our fair share of school trips around the city. So someone tell me why we were in one huge black van that would take us around Busan? The van was one that us members would take in our tours outside the country, when separating us in different smaller cars would cause more inconvenience than driving a big van.
“Hwan ssi, I thought I booked a private tour for three people. The van you brought could fit the whole BTS and our crew.” I asked as the man that would be our tour guide for the following days could only chuckle.
“The Park Jimin ssi deserves only the best. Besides, we were ready for unexpected additions…” The middle aged man smiled past his eye glasses. He was alluding to the fact that I said he needed to tour three people though I ended up joining myself so it had turned to four, though four people definitely did not need such a big van that would surely gain the curiosity of people.
“And don’t you worry about unwanted company. These two guys would surely keep you safe.” The man lurched forward to tap the shoulder of one of the tall and muscular men that would accompany us today. Alongside the driver that was also similar in size. Oh my connections were certainly spoiling me today.
I’m always so shocked at the reach of my influence. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it, no matter how many years I’ll keep it up. It even took my family a while to adjust. Especially now that Appa had opened a bakery and he was exposed to this influence on a regular basis. JiHyun loved this lifestyle, that little brat, though occasionally I’d notice how he still can’t take in my influence.
I wonder if Areum notices my influence too. Is she impressed? The little kid who injured himself on a toilet seat was long gone and now a successful hunk of a man is what he became. Is she attracted to that?
What. Am. I. Thinking ?!
What the hell! Snap out of that Jimin.
Stay humble as always and remember that everything can be taken away if I don’t properly use it with good intentions.
I quietly groaned to myself.
Why would I call myself a successful hunk?? What the hell.
“Okay, we’ve arrived at our first destination of the day… Gamcheon Culture Village.” Hwan said in a much more gleeful tone. I associated that as an entertainer's voice. The voice and personality we take on as soon as we do our work.
The van passed by the sign saying ‘GAMCHEON Culture Village’ as it entered the smaller streets of the Gamcheon Culture Village. I’ve seen pictures of this place though I never had the time to come here before. People walking freely on the small one-laned streets had moved aside for the van to come through though I started to wonder whether our van was meant to be on these roads.
“Don’t worry, we’ll also walk on these streets later on. The van just needs us to arrive at Haneul Maru first so that we can take in the entire village.” Hwan said as if he read my mind.
I looked back outside and watched as people gathered around street stalls and seemingly every building had a different vibrant color.
The van stopped in the middle of the street as Hwan hummed and prepared to open the door. I can feel the anticipation from all of us as one of the guards got out first and assisted us in getting out of the van before the driver drove away.
“Don’t take in your surroundings yet! You haven’t seen the best part yet.” Hwan raised a finger before he led us on a small pathway between two buildings. We filed into a one file line with me right behind Hwan, Areum behind me, Ahnna behind her, and JiHyun in front of the bodyguard that was following a good distance behind.
“Watch your step everyone!” Hwan warned, before I turned the corner and swallowed at the small concrete steps.
“Hwan, what is this? Are you planning on keeping us hostage here? Perhaps kill us by accident?” I was obviously joking though I made my tone out to be accusatory.
“Of course not!” Hwan sounded offended as he sped up his climb though I kept up my careful pace.
I can hear the girls giggling behind me and I couldn’t help but have a smile on my face from how ridiculous this climb was. I can feel a few droplets of sweat arise from my heated forehead. So I pushed the sleeves of my colorblock denim jacket off my shoulders to alleviate some of the heat.
Busan was one of the warmer cities of South Korea though February was usually rainy, the skies had blessed us with a good sunny day. Good thing most of us were wearing decent clothing for both climates.
I wore a similar outfit to the one I arrived in Seoul with on Monday. Black straight cut jeans and a dark blue shirt that matched my newly colored hair. I hoped that since I wore a beanie that mostly covered my new hair at the airport that now that I’m wearing a black beret, no one would immediately notice me because of it. Though I still kept it safe and had a white mask on.
JiHyun always wore one of his hoodies though this time it was a partially zipped gray hoodie that gave him the ability to choose to warm up by zipping it all the way or unzipping it to let more air in.
Ahnna in the meanwhile wore denim straight leg pants with a white tank top and white cropped cardigan.
While Areum chose to wear a blue denim midi skirt with a black top. She tied her hair up in a temporary bun when she realized the sunny weather and even opted to leave her denim jacket at the van. I guessed she was always one to quickly break a sweat under hot weather. Even when we were teens, she always broke a sweat first when we walked towards a bus stop.
I can see Hwan reach the end of the stairs and I anticipated myself for the view, it was definitely one I shouldn’t have underestimated.
The beautifully colored buildings and houses looked so peaceful on the hillside. The sun had only started to reach its peak and the vibrant colors shone ever brighter. We could see the layered streets, twisted labyrinth-like alleys, and people busy with whatever stalls littered the streets.
“Woah! It’s so pretty!”
“Eumi unnie, let’s take pictures!” Ahnna spoke though when Hwan cleared his throat to speak we all turned to look at him with divided attention.
“Okay so… the Gamcheon Village was built during the 1920s and 1930s when the Busan city administration decided to relocate the working-class population into an area secluded from the port. So, Gamcheon underwent a lot of changes throughout the times. Gamcheon was actually only one district in the 1950s and now it’s nine. In the 70s the houses were made of wood. In the 80s and early 90s, families started getting bigger and houses started to get bigger and have multiple floors. In 2009, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism carried out a public art-themed renovation effort to convert the village into a central hub. With improvements to infrastructure, fresh paint, other home improvements, spaces for retail and museums, with the help of artists and residents the village has been reborn as Busan’s most colorful and artistic spot. And don’t worry we will be visiting these spots sooner than later.” Hwan explained as we all listened to him.
“Do residents still live here?” Areum asked.
“Yes, last time I checked it’s about 120 residents.” Hwan smiled at the girl who nodded at the information. She always had a knick for information. She wasn’t one that loved math and studying though her interest always piqued when the subject was one she wanted to learn more about. Perhaps this tour was exactly what she might’ve wanted.
“That’s not a lot. I thought you said the whole working-class population was relocated here.” She inquired and Hwan’s smile grew at the fact that the woman seemed to take note of every piece of information he said.
“Yes, the population is decreasing especially because this has become a common tourist attraction. After the renovations, about 300 houses were found abandoned and those were used to create museums instead.” Hwan smiled.
I can see JiHyun and Ahnna already wandering around the wooden view deck and taking pictures near the edge of the white fence. I honestly didn’t know why I was still listening to Hwan and Areum’s conversation, I just came here to bond with my brother and the girls though I was enjoying how Hwan answered Areum’s questions so composed and well studied. I can tell he had a lot of passion in his job.
“Jimin Hyung! Areum Noona! Come take a picture with us!” JiHyun called us over as I glanced back at Areum who nodded at the two though continued to converse with Hwan.
I walked towards the two near the edge and looked down at the streets below us. The breeze was chilly though the heat from the sun was enough to balance our temperature well.
“What’s unnie doing?” Ahnna sounded impatient as I could only chuckle at her and JiHyun as when I glanced at them they had their arms crossed in front of their chest.
“She’s always learning, no? Let her be, this is a private tour we can stay here as long as we’d like.” I said as Ahnna could only frown and ready her camera for another selfie before tapping me with a finger to smile for the camera.
“I’m sending this to Aaron. I’m a neglected child! My responsible guardian is ignoring me!” Ahnna jokingly complained as Areum glanced at her from the sides of her eyes, her eyebrows furrowed and she curved her lips into a pout that mocked and judged her sister.
It was a hilarious sight that had me holding onto my knees as I bent down from my laughter. JiHyun was laughing too as Areum finally stepped away from Hwan with a less than pleased look though I can tell from the way her cheeks tried to force down a smile that she wanted to laugh with us too.
“So bratty. I should just leave you here and go back to New York.” Areum rolled her eyes as she finally stood with us near the edge of the view deck.
“Yeah right! JiHyun and Jimin oppa would take care of me anyways!” Ahnna fought back with a voice full of sass.
“You leech! You just want to walk around the HYBE building to meet popular choreographers.” Areum softly shoved Ahnna on the shoulder as Ahnna tried to do it back though Areum continuously blocked her hand.
“I wouldn’t mind really…” I spoke without thinking.
It was true, I really wouldn’t mind. Ever since Ahnna was born I have taken a brotherly role for her and I still think our dynamic stays as it is. I’d love to help her with her studies in an art school. I did it with Jungkook and I’d do it again.
“Aish! It’s a nightmare, save yourself!” Areum softly shoved my shoulder though it was more of a tap of the tips of her fingers. I can tell that she didn’t mean to shove me and she realized it a bit too late as she already had her hand against my shoulder.
Shoulder shoving seems to be a new habit of hers. I don’t know where she got it from, she usually wasn’t like that. It was usually me and JiHyun who did it and whenever we unconditionally did it to her she’d just roll her eyes. Why am I reading into this so much? Just let the woman live, Jimin.
“Okay, serious now… Selfie for the gram!” Ahnna held up her phone to the sky with the front camera pointing down at us to show the colorful background of the Gamcheon Culture Village.
“Wait! I shouldn’t join…” I quickly stepped out of frame as the three looked at me with confusion.
“I shouldn’t appear in public media this month… The focus needs to be on the new album.” I paired it with a chuckle as I didn’t want them to not post their experience in Busan just because I couldn’t appear in social media.
“Everything doesn’t have to be posted. I’m sure we’ll have more photo opportunities later, so just join us for the selfie.” Areum said with a warm smile that made my stomach feel like it could float.
“Come on oppa, this will be for the memories and for eomma and appa.” Ahnna smiled as I relented and took my space back beside JiHyun and behind the two girls.
“Wait, I can’t see you two properly.” Ahnna tried to reach higher into the sky as JiHyun took a step closer behind Ahnna and I copied his action to come closer behind Areum.
“Don’t point it too high at the sky too! We’re gonna go blind staring at the sun!” JiHyun chuckled as he placed a hand around my shoulder.
Ahnna laughed and lowered the phone angle. I’m glad JiHyun pointed it out before we took pictures. I knew these weren’t going public but I wanted to smile with a peak of my eyes at least. I loved my eye smile but I didn’t want my eyes to entirely disappear from squinting at the sun.
“Oppa remove your mask!” Ahnna reminded me as I took the hand opposite from JiHyun, who was pressing on my side, to remove my mask. I hung the mask around my wrist before I rested my hand to the side of Areum’s shoulder before we all pressed together and smiled for the picture.
It was great. The moment felt great. It wasn’t like the happiness I feel everytime I’m on stage or when I’m with Bangtan and other friends. It wasn’t the same happiness as I felt with family either. It was a happiness that I will now start to associate with my past. A happiness that I must’ve felt before though it now felt foreign. It wasn't happiness that made my cheeks hurt from smiling, but it was happiness that left a good feeling in my stomach. A good mixture of unfamiliar airiness and warm fulfilling joy.
“We’ll be walking around the village towards our next location now. Feel free to stop and buy a few things on the way.” Hwan told us before he led the way down the staircase as we had spent a good twenty minutes on the view deck already. Just appreciating the scenery, taking pictures, and feeling the breeze on our skin.
“Is anybody hungry? It’s still a good 10 to 15 minute walk until we reach the cafe we’ll have a short break at.” Hwan asked.
“We might just buy some street foods on the walk.” JiHyun said as he walked behind Hwan and carefully looked behind him to make sure Ahnna was following behind him. Whilst Areum walked behind Ahnna and in front of me, with the bodyguard behind me.
We were halfway down the twisted staircase when I noticed Areum struggling with her midi skirt before I heard a skid of the soles of her sneakers. I didn’t see her slip though it was somewhat like a reflex for me to immediately grab her upper arm in case she fell. That all too familiar noise of shoes losing grip that I’ve heard way too often during dance practice.
“Woah…Thanks.” She breathily laughed whilst regaining composure as the rest of the group glanced up at us before continuing down the stairs more carefully.
“Careful.” I said before we continued walking down and her body posture only showed how flustered she was.
“You okay? You’re always falling nowadays…” I prolonged the silence as I took the last step and saw JiHyun and Ahnna walking towards Hwan a few meters ahead of us.
I haven’t brought up our past encounter at the photoshoot before. It mostly slipped my mind though Areum had only said to us last night that she took up a few gigs around Seoul. Was working for BigHit that day just a gig? I always thought we were careful about who we hired. Something about not wanting any spoilers to leak out considering we mostly do a lot of content weeks prior to the proper airing date. We already had six boys, excluding me of course, that were already doing a great job in spoilers. We did not need part time staff to spoil for us too, not that I’m calling Areum bad but if they let her in as a part timer then who else were they letting in?
“Ha. Ha. Ha.” Areum rolled her eyes in mocked laughter, though she wasn’t offended.
“I don’t do it on purpose.” She added.
“Uh huh.”
“I’m being serious. It just happens…”
I really wanted her to open up about the photoshoot. I wanted her to willingly talk about it instead of me bringing it up in a more direct way. Or I might just be a little scared to make it awkward for the both of us to speak about it.
We soon exited the smaller alley that led to the Haneul Maru observation deck before we went down a flight of stairs to get to the much larger one lane street.
“If you turn around actually, you’ll see that there’s a large fish made of tiny fish shaped cutouts. All throughout the village, you’ll see that these fish shaped cutouts will lead us around. And I know that you all know this since it’s practically the first thing we’re taught in school here, but Busan has the largest seaport in South Korea. The city has abundant seafood and traditional street markets where you can enjoy fresh and delectable dishes. I am also informing you to please wear beach appropriate attire for our last day since we will be spending most of it in Songdo.” Hwan smiled as we all nodded.
“Gosh, remember our Songdo visit before?” Areum spoke as the rest of the group had started walking off in a direction.
“How could I not?” I smiled and we walked side by side as we followed the group. Hwan was talking about something as JiHyun and Ahnna followed closely behind him and I assumed the guard was walking behind us. As I grew more aware of the fact that I could be recognized.
“It was a long time ago. How old were we?” Areum asked as I looked up at the sky as if it would help me remember.
“JiHyun was at most six, so you were probably seven and I was turning eight.” I remember though perhaps we were a year younger. My childhood years seemed to all merge together and every memory I have prior to meeting Areum had disappeared whilst every memory I had before confessing and getting in a relationship with Areum was childhood.
I didn’t lose my childhood when we were together. I lost it when I started thinking about the future, my future. The future that I vaguely made out was me in Seoul and dancing, that was the year I started to dream and act on it. My teenage wild and whatever you call it phase.
“I don’t remember much of that anymore. Everything is hectic in New York. It makes you forget things easily.” Areum said as I nodded along.
“I’ve been to New York and it surely does feel more hectic.”
“You have?” Areum asked with surprise and it broke my heart to know that she wasn’t keeping up with me. It wasn’t like I expected her too but damn…
I literally performed for New Year’s. How could she not know? Isn’t it like the biggest thing in New York?
“We performed in Times Square during Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.”
“You did? Wow! That’s great! I’m sure the crowds were cheering you on.” She smiled at me and I wanted to smile back, though I only forced to squint my eyes in the illusion that I smiled as the effort of smiling didn’t feel needed when I had my mask on.
“I’m sorry we couldn’t watch it. We spent New Year’s in Seoul with Aaron.” Areum apologized though I only shook my head to signal that it wasn’t worth apologizing for. Of course I knew Aaron spent New Year’s in Seoul. I saw it on her Instagram afterall.
“Aaron hyung was here? Was Mr and Mrs Seong here too?” I asked as I remember it was one of the questions I asked myself that one drunken night.
“No… just us three.” She exaggerated a smile.
I should really stop bringing up her parents. Stop it Jimin. It’s awkward and none of your business.
“Ah, you should’ve said something. Eomma and Appa could’ve celebrated with you! I might’ve gone home too if we had guests.” I proposed though Areum only shook her head at the idea.
“We shouldn’t bother—“
“Areum, you two are never a bother! Look at JiHyun, he missed you so much. You’d have to run before he chains you to Busan.” I pointed at my brother happily pointing at everything he sees with a smile brighter than I’ve seen after all these years.
“I never knew he’d be this happy to see us.”
“We’re all happy to see you guys after all these years. I’m not joking, I would've actually spent New Year in Busan and canceled New York if you reached out.”
I don’t know if that was an exaggeration or not, but I would’ve definitely tried. It’s been too long and I know I wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to spend the holidays with my family and reunited friends.
“Yeah right. You’re a busy man now, Jimin. You’d probably get yelled at by your Sejin ssi.” She warned with a joking yet serious tone that made a laugh bubble out of my throat.
“Sejin i— he can’t control me!” I doubted the next thing I was going to say as I fought back with a much more playful manner that I’d usually engage in when Taehyung was up to his more theatrical moods.
“I know you were about to say that Sejin wasn’t your boss! He’s your boss Jimin. You have to follow him or else he’ll look like he was on his last hair with you not changing for the next set.” Areum alluded to something I don’t vividly remember happening.
“What do you mean? What set?”
“When you were still watching the interviews when you and RM should’ve been changing.” She clarified as I remembered when RM had dragged me on screen to join the other members in their group interview.
I chuckled with a shake of my head. Ironic really. I wouldn’t get changed because I was watching her. I was merely baffled by her presence in the photoshoot.
“I didn’t know Sejin was angry… I thought he was in our waiting room already.” I shrugged as I really didn’t get a glimpse of our manager that time.
“How’s TXT’s manager?” I added, hoping to stay on this topic of work.
“He’s good. We don’t interact much, but he’s been kind.” Areum smiled as I was at a loss of what to respond.
“I’m a BigHit makeup artist, so it’s not like he’s my boss.” Areum added with sass and a playful manner that stayed the same after all these years.
“I guess you’re right.” I laughed.
“Your boss is Sun Jee?” I asked as I stated the name of one of HYBE’s boss that I knew was in control of the makeup and dressing department.
“No, it’s Hee Ran. I just work for BigHit, not HYBE.” She smiled as I nodded.
“For how long?”
“I got connected through a friend and got hired when I booked a ticket and got my visa for Seoul.” She explained briefly.
“So you’ve worked since the day you got here?”
“Not really. I don’t go to every shoot or event. BigHit has other staff too, you know. And I’m just building up my portfolio and trying to get better at it.”
“I saw your work. You’re already doing very well!” I said encouragingly though the raise of her brow had me thinking that I said something wrong.
“When did you see my work?”
Oh.
“At the photoshoot… you did TXT’s makeup and hair and it looked great!” I recovered with a forced chuckle.
“Well yes… but I wanted to be more experimental. That’s why I do gigs outside of BigHit too. You idols need to look perfect, so I can’t try anything more than a new technique on your eyeshadow.”
Yes, I know. You post them on your Instagram and they all look amazing. You can be more experimental with me. Let it be like all those years ago, when you experiment on hiding blemishes and my scar.
I wanted to say so much in reply but when Hwan turned around to connect eyes with me I knew I didn’t have the time.
“Jimin ssi, you might want to take a good look at this.” Hwan called for me as the three of them slowed down for me and Areum to walk up to.
We rounded the corner and saw a pink building called Korean Traditional Paper Art Shop with space beside it to look over the village at another angle and had photo booths lined up beside the building.
“We’ll take pictures in the photo booth?” I asked though Hwan only kept walking past the building before he turned around and looked at something behind me.
“Woah! Hyung!”
I heard JiHyun’s amazement before I turned around and saw that the Korean Traditional Paper Art Shop had a painted mural of both me and Jungkook. It was amazing and something I hadn’t even heard of before. A cloud background was behind us as both me and Jungkook held red roses. Whilst the hashtags #Jungkook #Jimin were beside our murals.
“Woah! I have to tell Jungkook about this.”
If I had my mask off then they’d definitely see my toothy smile, though I think it was obvious with the mask on that I had a smile on my face. My cheeks were so high up that I was squinting at the mural. Though I had to remind myself to be extra cautious in case there were any ARMYs around admiring the mural too.
I quickly pulled out my phone and took a picture of it to send to the group chat later.
“Want us to take a picture for you?” Areum asked though I only shook my head. It was no need. It would probably raise more suspicion on why a man that was similarly built to the man on the mural was taking an awkward photo in front of it.
“You guys want to buy something here? Our next stop is a cafe so there should be no rush.” Hwan informed us as I skimmed through the display.
“You want something?” I looked towards the two sisters as they shrugged though their eyes roamed through the display.
“Excuse me.” I called the attention of one of the vendors as an older woman came to my call.
“Yes mister? What can I get for you?”
“May I buy two sensus?” I said as I glanced at the artful folding fans that were displayed on a rack.
“Of course, just choose. The price depends on the design.” The woman smiled as she pointed at the fans for sale.
I looked over at the Seong siblings and gestured for them to choose as they tried to deny it though I insisted and they let their eyes roam at each design carefully.
“I’ll choose this.” Ahnna took a green and blue sensu from the lower rack that wasn’t displayed though similar enough to one that was on the rack.
“That will be 20,000 won.” The woman smiled and I nodded as I got my wallet out to count some cash that I’ve brought aside from my credit cards.
“And this? How much?” Areum spoke to the lady as she pointed to a sensu that had an off-white background behind a simple Cherry Blossom tree branch. Of course she went for something so elegantly simple.
“35,000 won, miss.”
“What? What’s the difference between these two?” She pointed to the one Ahnna held as her eyes tried to not widen from surprise at the price.
“This one is larger and is made from the best bamboo!” The older woman tried to impress though Areum was having none of it.
“How about 25,000 won?”
“No way, miss! This is really good quality and—“
“Don’t worry about it Eumi, I’ve got it.” I interrupted the older woman as I took out a yellow 50,000 won bill along with a 20,000 won bill to hand to the woman.
“We’ll have both ahjumma. Thank you.” I bowed as the woman looked less pleased with Areum though still packed up both fans in a bag and handed it to me. She was about to return my change though I simply shook my head as a sign for her to keep it.
“Jimin. 55,000 won on sensu? Back then they were 10,000 won each!” Areum complained as we started to walk away.
“Areum. I’m BTS.” I had a smug smile behind my mask as I said the line with much pride.
Was I being boastful? Yes.
Did I need to stay humble? Yes.
But for once I finally got to tell Areum my biggest accomplishment while she was gone and I wanted her to be proud of that.
“Aish, shh! They’ll eat you up as soon as they hear you. Then it’ll be a bigger problem for all of us.” Areum looked around as though she was checking if anyone had heard such a deep secret.
“Hyung, let's buy some!” JiHyun called me from the other side of the street as he pointed to a fresh Kkwabaegi stall. The sweet twisted doughnut smell was already hitting my nose as soon as I laid sight upon the stall.
We approached the stall and asked for ten doughnuts. JiHyun already had one in his mouth and was being held by a white paper cup whilst the rest were in a paper bag that we’d take to the cafe that Hwan said was only 3 minutes away.
“I remember loving this as a kid!” JiHyun said as he stuffed another mouthful into his mouth before he licked his lips from any stray sugar particles.
“Looks like you still do.” Areum added as we chuckled and JiHyun rolled his eyes.
“We really need to eat more in Seoul, Eumi. You know, during New Year’s we went to a traditional Korean restaurant and I didn’t know half of the things on the menu!” Ahnna complained.
“Aish, blame Appa and Aaron for that!” Areum waved a hand at her younger sister though opted to keep her eyes on the road we were walking on.
“You’re an American already. You grew up in America. It’s natural.” I stated.
I’m pretty sure there was another word for it because the situation was just that common. I’m pretty sure I’ve heard it get called ‘whitewashing’ though I’m not sure if the situation is entirely similar. I couldn’t blame Ahnna. She even speaks in half Korean and half English and she definitely had an accent from the west. Thankfully enough all of us are exposed to English and American accents so communicating with Ahnna was smooth sailing. I even see it happening to Namjoon Hyung, especially when we travel to The States and are exposed to more Western accents. Even Hobi Hyung gets it sometimes and I worry that the more we take English lessons then the more we’ll have this accent more frequently. Days are harder when I can’t slip in an ‘Okay’ in pure English form.
“That’s why you’re here to study. You get to be more in touch with your culture again, so that this time you won’t forget it so easily.” JiHyun smiled as I nodded in agreement.
“Just through this corner.” Hwan spoke from behind us as he was engaging in conversations with our guard.
We climbed up a set of stairs on the sidewalk. The village seems to have layers that you simply walk through by these staircases on the side of the road.
Hwan decided to walk in front of us to lead us to the cafe. It was good timing too because my feet were getting more exhausted the more steps I took. Now imagine if we walked all the way to our middle school earlier? I would be dead.
“Now this place is actually run by a close relative of mine and it’s a bit more private so you could take your mask off and relax more Jimin ssi.” Hwan smiled as we approached a red building that seemed to be two stories tall with a roof deck on the top.
I can tell that it was more private than the rest of the cafe’s we passed by. All the others were near the sidewalk and closer to the edge to have a view of the village.
We went into the cozy red building. The walls were painted white with black stone tiled flooring and a black brick counter that showed the staff making the drinks.
“Why don’t we take a seat on the third floor for the view? Or would you like to stay on the second floor for the air conditioning?” Hwan asked as we all piled in front of the counter.
“Let’s go to the top and when it gets too hot some of us could come back down.” I raised the idea as Hwan nodded and told the guard to go up and get us a table before he stayed with us to order.
“Hello! What can I get for you?” The barista greeted us as we all looked at the menu.
“I’ll have the coconut jelly iced tea.” JiHyun said as the woman nodded and placed his order on the register.
“I’ll have an Americ—“
“Ahh! We were just talking about this earlier…” JiHyun interrupted the girl as me and Areum let out a laugh.
“Wha—“
“Why not try something other than a coffee that’s literally called American.” JiHyun said as I let out an even louder and breathier laugh. His interruption was uncalled for, but bless my brother and his overactive nature.
“You should try something else, Ahnna. It’s too late for a coffee anyways.” Areum added as she flicked her phone on and the digits 15:07 displayed on her phone to indicate that it was three in the afternoon already.
“Okay… I’ll have a Grapefruit Ade.” Ahnna pointed to the English menu.
“And I’ll have a Blueberry Yoghurt Smoothie.” Areum said as the three of them now looked at me for my order.
“I’ll have a Green Grape Ade.” I said as the cashier inputted that in.
“I’ll have two Americanos too! But please separate our bill.” Hwan said from behind us as the cashier nodded and typed a few things on her register.
“Please separate both of our orders too please. The Yoghurt and—“
“No need. I’ll pay for it, don't worry.” I smiled as I interrupted Areum. Her lips readied to disagree though I stopped it by pulling out my newly obtained black card.
“I don’t get it? Why do they get Americanos?” Ahnna half whined.
“They’re adults.” JiHyun responded nonchalantly though Hwan also responded at the same time.
“It’s the cheapest thing there.”
“Kindly cancel his order too and add two Cappuccinos to our order.” I smiled as I could see Hwan’s mouth slightly drop at my quick action.
“Jimin ssi…”
“Hwan, I can’t pull this out and expect you to pay for your own Americanos now.” I chuckled as I waited for the register to calculate our order.
“That will be 30,500 won. Would you like any pastries added?” The register asked as I turned to the people around me as they only shook their heads no.
“We’ll have some cheese bread with that please. Just take 40,000 won from that.” The register nodded as I handed the card to her and she swiped it before letting me sign the receipt.
“We’ll call you when it’s ready.” The woman smiled before turning around to tell her colleague about the order.
“I’ll wait here for the orders. You guys can go up.” I told the group as I removed my mask and finally got to breathe in some cold conditioned air.
“I’ll stay with you.” Areum said as the rest had already started going up.
We both sat down at a nearby table as I removed my black beret and finger combed my hair.
I wonder how cool I look right now. After flashing my newly gotten invitational black card and having my blue hair out. I must look like a dream. Though I quickly brought those thoughts down and I wasn’t usually the boasting type. What was happening? I shouldn’t be thinking like that.
“Wow, so Mr. Black Card?” Areum raised a brow as she removed her hair tie and let her long hair flow down her shoulders whilst I only chuckled.
Okay Jimin. We get it, you're rich and handsome and everything let’s stay humble now.
“You want some? They might get cold soon.” I placed the bag of Kkwabaegi and Areum gladly took one out of the bag and took a bite before peeling one braid of the twist and offering it to me.
“Gosh, you still eat it that way.” I laughed and shook my head as I vividly remember Areum eating Kkwabaegi by peeling the two braids off instead of just biting into it the normal way.
“What? It’s good! I haven’t had this in forever, and it’s still warm!” She smiled as she took a bigger bite of her strand of sugar coated bread while I took the strand that she offered me.
I took a bite of the bread and instantly felt the warmth of the bread in my stomach as we ate the bread in silence. Though it wasn’t an awkward silence between past lovers. This time it felt warmer, it felt just like it used to be before. A silence that was understood as a time for us to rest our personalities and just bask in nothing but the smell of coffee.
“Excuse me ma'am and sir, your order is ready.” The cashier waved to us as I stood up and grabbed one of the trays of our drinks.
“Thank you.” I said as I turned to the other trays debating on how I would take this up the stairs.
“I’ll take this one.” Areum took the wooden tray in her arms with a smile after she had already placed the bag of twisted doughnuts to place on my wooden tray.
“Careful.” I warned seriously, though she only laughed at me.
“Don’t worry, I had my daily trip already. I won’t trip this time around.”
And she really didn’t trip as I walked behind her on the staircase. We got up to the top floor and admired the view with rest. Ahnna and Areum had even taken pictures and videos for their Instagrams that I was sure I’d see later when I opened Instagram.
The cafe had us relaxing as Hwan and I discussed the next stops we’d take in the village.
We still had dinner with my parents later on in the night so we had to travel back to Jinam-ro on time.
We went to a few more locations around the Gamcheon Culture Village. We took some pictures with the Little Prince Statue that overlooked another angle of the village. We went to buy a few more souvenirs in the Gamcheon Culture Station. We also went to see the Stairs to See Stars, though it was difficult to take pictures when other people also sat and stepped on the stairs to take pictures.
“Gosh, this is exhausting. My knees hurt.” Areum complained as we were walking towards a small museum Hwan wanted us to see.
“You’re getting old, unnie.” Ahnna laughed though it was followed by Areum bringing a weak hand up to threaten a punch.
“We’re both too old for this. I don’t get why Hwan is taking us to all these places.” I said.
“I’m taking you to all these places because last time I heard you wanted to show these locals turned foreign around so that they get to embrace their culture again.” Hwan sassily yet calmly responded.
“Yeah, but after this I think I need to lay down for the next seven days. This isn’t a break from work. This is more intense than my workout!” I exclaimed though JiHyun only snorted at me.
“You work out, hyung?” He chuckled as a mock to my ever repeating statements of working out.
“JiHyun, watch yourself.” I warned him.
“Here we are! After this we’ll just walk back to the main road and the van should be waiting to take us back to Jinam-ro. Unless you’d like to walk all the way back to Haneul Maru?” Hwan teased though both me and Areum turned in synch to glare at him.
“At least tomorrow days we’ll be spending most of it in museums.” Hwan smiled as I threw I nodded a relieved.
“Hwan, go easy on us tomorrow.” I said as the man nodded.
“Of course, Jimin ssi. We’ll be at the museum and aquarium in Hawundae, so you’ll probably end off earlier. We could book you dinner somewhere after too…” Hwan replied as he looked at me expectantly for my plans though I hadn’t really thought much about it.
“Uh… I don’t know. Are there any good places in that area?” I thought of the idea on the spot as we were already eating out tonight, a change of menu would be great from time to time.
“Yes! If anything is going to get Ahnna more familiar with South Korean culture then it’s night life in Haeundae!” JiHyun cheered as Areum’s eyes widened at the idea.
“Oppa, I’m not legal yet!” Ahnna whined as I laughed at Areum’s reaction. I placed a hand over my mask as if I still needed to conceal my open mouthed laugh behind the mask.
“No. Maybe next time, but not right now. That’s something for Aaron to have a say in.” The older sister said as my laughter subsided though a smile still fought its way up my cheeks.
“But would you join? Have you even tried the nightlife in Korea? You left before you were even legal.” I waved my brow in suggestion of a night out though the woman only rolled her eyes.
“Jimin hyung, have you tried American nightlife?” JiHyun asked in curiosity .
“Of course! It’s nice there, their whiskey is top tier!”
“And the girls?” JiHyun wiggled his brows.
I could only chuckle. Whatever I did outside of South Korea is a different story to how I usually do it here. Sometimes I was dumb enough to join house parties that I really shouldn’t have gone to, but that was that.
“Here’s the Modern Man museum! It’s pretty small, but it’s private enough for Jimin ssi to take a break from wearing your mask.” Hwan smiled as we stood outside the small building.
I removed my mask as I read the text outside the building.
Room of our Contemporaries
Contemporary Men by Shin Mugyeong
A Village Art Project in 2012.
The work expressed the busy contemporary men who are doing repetitive tasks in their daily life by visualizing the hands tapping on the keyboards or people working at the desk.
It was self explanatory.
I stepped in first since the rest were still busy reading the sign. Inside was a TV about the working man though I only skimmed through the message before JiHyun followed me in and we both entered the main room.
A brightly lit white room with glass that separated us from the artwork. About 15 machines that visualized a clear hand pressing onto nonexistent keyboards.
Namjoon Hyun had actually started to be more open about his love for art and museums. Just like Jin Hyun and Lee Hyun Hyung and their open interest in fishing that had newly started after our photoshoot. And just like fishing, I really don’t understand the appeal of looking at interpretive art.
Yes, I agree they look incredible, but Namjoon Hyung goes into rants about artworks sometimes and I really don’t understand it. Though I try to understand that art and fishing is their passion like dancing is for me.
What a weird passion, in my opinion. But it’s their life.
“Woah, this is nice!” Areum’s eyes roamed the room as I only stood in place and looked back at the room as if I was missing something.
Was there something I couldn’t see?
No there wasn’t. Perhaps Areum and Ahnna had a better eye than me since they took a good few minutes just staring at the exhibit before we exited back out.
We soon got into the van and we were back on the road after a long day. The sun had begun to set as we sat quietly in the van. The walking and standing we did throughout the day had finally taken its weight on us as the van was completely silent on the ride back to the cafe.
I told Hwan to simply drop us off at Magnate since my parents will be driving all of us to Geumcheon-Dong for dinner.
I took out my phone and started to aimlessly check important notifications that I might’ve missed. I saw the reactions of fans on our second MOTS:7 Concept photos that showed my much more vibrantly colored blue hair. I should take more precautions now since fans will be on the lookout for a blue headed male around.

Of course ARMY loves me.
ARMY loves all of us and we love ARMY back. That’s why we’re so excited for our new album Map Of The Soul: 7 and our plans for doing a world tour. It would be a great opportunity to see ARMY again.
We all could honestly say that our souls' motivation was ARMY. They give us the power to persevere through challenges and hardships. No matter the battle, no matter the dumb fights and complications we face. If ARMY was brought into the conversation then everything doesn’t matter except for ARMY.
Our new album ‘Map Of The Soul: 7’ is our fourth full-length album and shows the honest story of our journey of discovering our true selves. ‘Map Of The Soul: 7’ looks back on the seven years since our debut as seven members in one team. Our joruney to stardom wasn’t easy and smooth sailing. We faced challenges that left scars, and we now understood that these scars were part of ourselves. Our new album will show our growth as artists and I just can’t contain my excitement for this release. Considering Taehyung and I actually have a duet that included my active participation in making the lyrics and part of the production. I just can’t contain my excitement.
I just hope ARMY will love it too.
When I finished checking Weverse and ARMYs reaction to our concept photos, I then looked around and saw that JiHyun was asleep beside me whilst Areum and Ahnna were sitting behind us though they kept their eyes on the road or on their phones.
I opened Instagram and logged into my account. Seeing reposted pictures of our concept photos before I saw Areum’s account has posted a new story.

They were snippets of our trip around Gamcheon Culture Village and I couldn’t help but sigh in happiness as I looked back at the day. It was definitely different from how I expected my break would be though I wasn’t complaining.
It was great reconnecting with old friends.

It was still fairly early in the morning. Appa and Eomma had already gone to open up the cafe and after I’m done going to the highschool I would have nowhere else to go but stay at home for my second day in Busan. I didn’t want to stay at the cafe during opening hours. News had already gone out with me staying in Busan and I really didn’t want to cause my parents trouble, so preferably I should just stay home.
“Hyung!”
“JiHyun, I have to get to Busan High School before their classes start.”
“But we can come with you!”
I couldn’t help but let out a loud laugh at my younger brother’s idea. I looked towards the two Seong sisters sitting ever so awkwardly on the sofa.
“I don’t get it hyung. We’re free for the entire morning and the PRIVATE tour you arranged is still at noon. What’s wrong with coming with you to your High School business thing? And why can’t you come with us on the tour?” JiHyun looked defeated and I really hated myself for making him upset, though I didn’t understand why he couldn’t understand what I was doing.
“JiHyun… People will recognize me and your tour will be ruined. I’m fine staying at home until you guys come back and we can go out for dinner with Appa. And my work is going to be really quick and really boring.” I explained slowly as JiHyun sat on the sofa defeated. His shoulders sagging down like the cushion around him did.
Areum placed a hand on his back to comfort the younger boy before she looked at me with those big dark brown deep eyes that sent a tingling sensation to my airy stomach. I can tell that she was unsure of something from the way her pupils would slightly move though still keeping them staring at me. She blinked and stood up to approach me and lowered the volume of her voice to speak to me.
“Jimin… I’m sure you don’t want us in your work, but JiHyun just wants to spend the most time with you. I know your job really makes it difficult to see each other and both me and Ahnna being here at the same time as you is probably making it more difficult for JiHyun to spend his time properly but you have to understand your younger brother. If you don’t want us in your work then it’s okay, but please try to join us in the tour at least. It will be difficult to avoid getting recognized in your hometown but it would mean everything to JiHyun.” Areum’s voice carried a calmness that relaxed shoulders that I didn’t know were tense. Her slow and placid way of speaking to me made me understand her point instantly and I can feel my lips frown from my dawning realization.
The last time I properly saw JiHyun was last year. It was a quick overnight visit before I flew to New York for the New Year and we managed to only exchange a few words due to my rush in getting papers done in Busan. This was the only time in a long while that he actually had my full attention and I didn’t realize how much that meant to him. We were always a close knitted family. No matter the distance; we still occasionally sent each other messages and planned things for when they got a chance to go to Seoul or when I would go to Busan. I even planned on buying a bigger apartment when needed so that I can have a room just for my parents to stay in when they stay in Seoul.
I breathed out and nodded as I blinked slowly. Areum had a small smile on her lips as I checked my phone for the time. I was going to be late, though it would be fine. They would understand and it wasn’t that time stricken. Actually, it was only going to overlook the work I wanted to do, I hated planning things on my days off so of course this small work time incorporated early in the day was minimal effort.
“Okay… Go get changed and let’s go. We can have some proper breakfast on the way too.”
JiHyun’s head immediately snapped up at my voice. His lips turned up as he met my eyes and he immediately stood up and got in his room to change up as I sat on the sofa and got my phone out to message the people I was going to meet about my slight delay.
“Are you two okay with coming with us? Or will you stay here?” I asked the two Seong’s.
“We have nothing else to do so we’ll come with you.” Ahnna answered with a smile as I nodded and called a car to pick us up.
“Do you want us to leave you be with your work?” JiHyun asked as the van we rode drove closer to the Busan High School of Arts.
“No, it’s fine unless you want to. It’ll be a quick 10 minutes.”
All four of us did end up coming down the van to enter the school. I only managed to stay a little over a year in this high school, since in my second year I moved to Seoul, though I always appreciated my old schools. This was the school that held my memories of the dance club and the teacher that suggested I join an entertainment company. If it wasn’t for them then I might’ve not fallen in love with dance, and my life would’ve looked completely different if I didn’t.
“Ah, Park Jimin ssi!” A man dressed in formal attire greeted me by the entrance as two more men stood beside him and greeted me.
“Kim Gi Deok, pleasure to meet you again.” I bowed before taking the man’s extended hand to shake.
“I hope you don’t mind that I brought my brother JiHyun and our friends Seong Areum and Ahnna with me.” I gestured to the people beside me as the man simply shook his hand and sent them a smile.
“Not at all. After everything you’ve done for our schools, it is only our pleasure.”
“It’s my pleasure to give back. Speaking of which…” I trailed off as I looked around the halls.
“Ah yes! Come with me. We received all 1200 desks and chairs late December and the students are now in class placing them to good use!” The man walked in front of me as I followed and glanced behind me to see if the three were still following me as the two other men followed from behind them.
“I’m glad. I really wanted to help out.”
We turned the corner and saw some of the earlier years in their classrooms. I could feel my cheeks rise at the sight of them sitting comfortably on their seats as they focused on their teachers. I saw myself in them. So much hope, dream, and passion for the future.
“I hope you were informed that the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education has already seen some developments and the 30% of your donation that went to us are being placed to good use in nurturing our students.”
I smiled with a nod of my head. I had a few people arrange my donations for me and update me on them though it was much greater to hear it in person and see the students.
“And as we move here…” We all reached the end of the hallway and turned to the last classroom, the same classroom I spent most of my days in.
“One of your fan clubs' 10 million won donation was also already used as scholarships for these students. We really can't thank you enough for your generosity and kind acts.” The man bowed deeply again as I bowed the same angle as him. I wasn’t aware of such doings though a sense of pride overcame me from our joint actions.
“I didn’t know they did such things, but I’m glad we all helped.”
As quick as we entered the school, we were soon leaving out the doors after rejecting a meal since we were all relatively full from breakfast. I planned for more projects to come in aiding my past schools though since this project had gotten public recently, I opted to slow down those projects for another time.
“Where’s the van?” JiHyun asked as we exited the building with an empty road in front of us.
“You said you wanted to take a walk and go past our middle school, didn’t you?” I raised a brow as a bright smile crept onto my younger brother’s face. I can tell the two girls also enjoyed seeing JiHyun so happy and I couldn’t help but smile with them.
“We’re not walking all the way to Yonsan! My knees would kill me. We're not as young as we were before, but we’re getting in the van by the highway and then we’ll drive past Hoedong.” I corrected myself, though the boy’s grin still stayed on his lips and creased his cheeks.
“Hyung ah! It’s been too long since we’ve properly catched up.” JiHyun said as he walked beside me on the sidewalk whilst Ahnna and Areum walked behind us.
“It’s good to catch up. I haven’t properly seen you in so long.” I shrugged as I placed my hands in the pockets of my coat.
“Areum noona, remember when we ran from Yonsan to Busan High School to give hyung his lunch?” JiHyun looked back at Areum and I guessed she nodded in return, though I kept my eyes on the rubbled concrete of a small one lane street I used to walk through every afternoon.
“Huh? Why were you going to oppa’s school?” Ahnna asked.
“Jimin hyung and my bag got mixed up so me and Areum had to run all the way to hyung’s school before running back to catch a bus to Yonsan. We were a sweating mess!” JiHyun explained with a few movements to reenact what he remembered.
“YOU had to run to Jimin ssi’s school… You practically dragged me to come with you!” Areum corrected the younger boy as laughter from me and Ahnna erupted.
“Hey! Would you really let me run all by mys—“
“I failed an oral recitation because I couldn’t look over my presentation during lunch time!” Areum interrupted.
“Woah, JiHyun?!” I spoke up as this was new information to me. Yes, they had mentioned this event a few times before though Areum failing a recitation because of it never reached my ears.
“What?” JiHyun looked at me confused.
“Why did you have to bring Areum with you?!
“Hyung! I could’ve gotten kidnapped!”
“I don’t get why you had to run either. I could’ve bought my lunch or ate yours.” I thinned my lips.
“And let you have my homemade gimbap?! I made those with my 13 year old blood, sweat, and tears! And… I didn’t know the correct bus routes to get back to Yonsan…”
We again erupted in laughter at JiHyun’s words as he joined us with a few chuckles. Oh, to go back in time and see the beads of sweat on their foreheads from running. I remembered feeling a bit embarrassed by the whole fiasco back then. I had to be called over to the front gate because middle schoolers weren’t allowed inside our campus especially in the middle of the day.
Our laughter subsided as we reached the main road where there were more cars on the street and people on the sidewalk though
“Jimin oppa, when did you start dancing passionately?” Ahnna asked as I turned to look back at her.
“First year highschool. In that very high school, some group of dancers approached me and asked me if I wanted to try dancing after classes and I just got hooked.” I smiled though a tsk from JiHyun said otherwise.
“Jimin hyung always loved dancing, ever since he was a child. He joined Just Dance academy during middle school and that’s when he got connected to go to Seoul, right noona?” JiHyun corrected my version of events as if he was me. Though we still both looked back to face Areum to see which side she was going to take.
“Jimin loved dancing since he was little. So did he love singing so he joined Just Dance Academy, but left to focus on high school… Though he still managed to join a dance club and ended up going to Seoul. Well, that’s how I remember it. It’s a long time ago now.” Areum shrugged as she opted to keep her eyes on her shoes.
“Why are both of you talking as if you lived my life?” I half-jokingly said with a laugh though no one else laughed with me.
“Come to think of it… yeah. I think Eumi noona is right. Jimin hyung loves to end things to focus on other things though ends up coming back to perfect it either way. Tsk tsk.”
“Aish! Why are you talking like that when I’m right beside you!” I scolded in an angry tone as I shoved JiHyun’s shoulder.
“Ouch! It’s true!”
I ended up chasing and play-fighting with JiHyun as the girl’s could only giggle at our childishness. I felt at ease. I felt at home. It felt as though nothing had changed between us, we were still the Seongs and Parks that walked and commuted from our school to martial arts practice and dance practice. We still laughed like we had in our years of friendship and that was my home.

Back To Busan
The rest of the week had been normal. No weird interactions nor an airy stomach. I’ve learned to forget about a lot of my personal problems whenever I enter the HYBE building. Thankfully enough, I never saw Areum again aside from the photoshoot. It wasn’t like we had much time to think about anything else but our upcoming album anyway.
Our trip to Los Angeles for the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards had gone by without a hitch. We did hope to come back soon to perform our own song, though it was already such an honor to sing alongside Lil Nas X and other artists. We did a few more promotional activities in America and filmed most of our new album’s music videos before we went back to Seoul together to finish a few more things before we had a few days of rest in preparation for the release of our newest album ‘Map of the Soul: 7’ and our eventual return to America.
A few things have changed with scheduling. The break was 5 days long starting on Wednesday, February 12th. Though a few members had already started their break during the weekend as our schedules had started to clear off and our knotted muscles built up. During the break, all promotional content was already pre-recorded and filmed so we had nothing to worry about. Instead, we all focused on getting the most out of our break as we had a lot of promotional activities planned for our album. The last proper one that we predict to release as talk about our enlistments was becoming more frequent.
“When will you be back?” Hobi’s voice spoke as soon as I completely zipped up my backpack.
“I don’t know, maybe the 19th? The album isn’t getting released until the 21st so I might stay in Busan a little longer…
I can see a visible frown appear on Hoseok’s face as I had to lean back from the laughter erupting in my lungs.
“Oh come on! Did you really think I’d miss your birthday? We even have a flight on the 17th. There’s no way I want to travel separately.” I walked over to my hyung before hugging him. A few chuckles left his lips as he stood up from his bed.
“I’ll be back by the 16th. We’ll have plenty of time to celebrate your birthday.” I smiled at Hoseok as he smiled back at me.
“Hey, have a safe trip.” Hoseok wished me before I exited our shared room with my backpack hanging behind my back. I didn’t have to bring much considering my old room still had a fair amount of clothes that were intended to be used whenever I stayed in Busan.
“Thanks, enjoy your break too!” I greeted before the door closed behind me and I was greeted by the youngest of us sitting on the couch.
“Are you going already, hyung?” Jungkook asked, though his eyes stayed on the TV.
“Yeah, I have to catch the train.”
“You’re taking the train?” Yoongi said from the kitchen as I passed by him and Tae.
“Yeah, I don’t want to deal with the media at Incheon Airport.” I left my luggage in the corridor and quickly tied up the laces of my sneakers.
“When will you be back in Seoul?” Taehyung asked as he walked towards me holding a bowl of his Shin Ramyun. He picked a mouthful with his chopsticks and gestured for me to open my mouth, which I accepted happily.
“I’m not sure yet. I’ll be back here at the apartment by the time we leave for our flight though.” I answered as I chewed on the hot noodles with a hiss from how hot the stew was.
“Alright, have a safe trip.” Taehyung sent me a smile before he slurped a mouthful of noodles.
“Have a safe trip, Jimin ah.”
“Have a safe trip, hyung!”
Yoongi and Jungkook greeted me before I walked down the entrance hallway and exited the door.
Our van waited for me in front of our apartment building before it started its short drive to the Train Station. However, I did request the driver to stop by my favorite cafe for me to grab a breakfast sandwich and coffee before we went straight to the train station.
The train boarded at twelve in the afternoon. I made sure to keep a cap on my head and a mask on my face the entire time. It wasn’t much of a hassle getting on board as I picked the less busy hours to commute. The train itself also had seats that were more comfortable, so the most I had to do was to keep my white mask below my nose and keep my head down.
I wasn’t really tired considering the cup of coffee I drank on the way to the station, so I decided on opening Instagram once again. The late night on the balcony wasn’t the only time I checked the social media app.
A friend of mine showed me a fan’s artwork of me and the members during our trip to America. It was enough for me to stay online for another reason than to stalk. However, I made sure I left no digital footprint and only screenshotted the things that I really wanted to save.
I opened the Instagram app and scrolled through my feed. Encountering a few irrelevant posts before I saw some fan art. I knew I could find these in Weverse too though there were some that were exclusively posted on Instagram that I couldn’t find on our app.
Instagram also just showed me regular funny content instead of all BTS content, so it wasn’t like I just had it to see the works of our fans. As I scrolled the BTS content began to subside and I was about to log off until I found a very specific post…
Tumblr media
I refused to believe it. Out of all the days Areum has stayed in South Korea, did she really visit Busan on the week that I was going to stay there? Perhaps it was a late post, though when I tapped on her profile and saw her latest post my heart sank to my stomach.
Tumblr media
It was JiHyun with Areum.
It brings me to question if JiHyun knew that the Seongs visited Seoul. Did he tell Eomma and Appa? If so then why didn’t they tell me anything?
I guess I’ll find out when I arrive.
Though out of all the thoughts in my mind, I couldn’t help but laugh at one particular and absolutely ridiculous thought… Did Areum really mean the caption? There was absolutely no way JiHyun was her favorite. Eomma should be her favorite and there was no way I was below JiHyun. I mean… who loves that child over me?
I exited the app and promised myself an hour of rest as I tried to forget about all the possibilities of bumping into each other in Busan. I mean how crazy would that be? With my tight schedule for the new album, she manages to be in Busan the week I’ll be staying there? No way. I wouldn’t believe it until it happens.
Oh, how I bite my own words at times…
I got off the train and out of the station to meet the Busan air. Busan wasn’t much different from Seoul, though whenever I’m here I’m always taken back to my younger days. Even if I came here for work and projects, my body still associates this place as home and therefore every unsettling thought I had would immediately get pushed to the back of my mind.
I kept my head down just to be safe. The last thing I wanted was for people to know that I’m in town as soon as I arrived. I looked at my phone screen in my hands as the last text from JiHyun reflected back at me.
Tumblr media
I quickly typed a message saying that I was already out of the station before I looked back up and tried to find my brother on the sidewalk. The place wasn’t so crowded though I still had to keep my head down since the sun was already burning through the fabric of my black cap.
“Jimin hyung!”
I heard a voice call out to me as my head snapped to the direction of the sound.
I saw my brother waving an arm up with a smile on his face as I also raised my hand up to wave before walking closer to him. He had this gummy smile on his face that I knew brewed trouble.
I was only a few steps away from JiHyun, the dragging of my luggage on the cement slowly faded as JiHyun stepped aside and showed Areum standing behind him.
Surprise? I guess?
My steps immediately halted as JiHyun was quick to take the three steps that separated us. He engulfed me in a hug though I didn’t do much to reciprocate it.
“Hyung, I hope you don’t mind Ahnna and Areum tagging along. They just surprised us at the cafe earlier this morning. Did you know they have been staying in Seoul since last year? Apparently, after Mr and Mrs Seong separated, Ahnna wanted to enroll in SOPA. Little Ahnna is all grown up now.” JiHyun was quick to info dump on me as I flicked my gaze between my overly enthusiastic though jittery and nervous younger brother and the same woman I saw on Instagram a few hours ago.
I don’t know if it was from the long trip to Busan or everything happening all at once but I was starting to get a headache, and the once freeing aura I felt in Busan was replaced with a heavy confusion and an annoyingly airy stomach that was becoming a common feeling for me.
“Slow down, JiHyun.” I forced a chuckle as I placed a hand on my younger brother’s shoulder.
“Jimin ssi must be tired from his trip. Ahnna already got us a taxi, let’s go?” Areum spoke in the tone she used with Soobin at the photoshoot. It was so foreign to me. Her voice was foreign to my ears though it was the way she addressed me that had my stomach churning. Since when was I held to such formality?
“I slept pretty well on the trip here, actually. Though I am starving for some of Appa’s cream toast.” I answered back though my eyes stayed on the laces of my shoes. I can feel myself holding back on my tone, as much as I wanted to talk in mocking formality it would do terrible things to an already severed and awkward bridge.
After all the exes I’ve had, I never once saw them again after we broke up. Whether it be flings or proper relationships, I always made sure that once they are in my life they only take up a portion of it. They can’t be connected to my family or friends and certainly not in my job. Perhaps that’s why they always managed to fail. The most presence and effect on my life they had was on my leisure time which was only about 10-15% of what I focus on.
But Areum was different. You could say I learned from my mistakes when I broke up with her. I couldn’t bear JiHyun getting upset at me for breaking up with a girl he liked me with. That’s why no other girl managed to come home to Busan with me. Areum was my friend first. Our parents were friends first and we were stupid enough to play with our feelings and sever the relationship our families had.
We all collectively turned our heads to see a younger woman waving at us while standing beside a yellow taxi. She looked just like the Instagram posts. She was practically a twin of Areum though there were a few differences. She looked more youthful and had an aura of a definite foreigner, unlike her older sister who still blended in naturally with national Koreans. Her skin was tanned and she had fewer moles on her face than her sister. She had colored her hair a tint of caramel brown though she was almost the same height as Areum. It was difficult to believe that this grown teenager was in fact the baby the three of us collectively babysat for our parents whilst growing up.
“No way! The last time I saw you was when you were ten?!” I gasped as Ahnna giggled and went closer to embrace me in a hug that I reciprocated.
“Jimin oppa! So glad to see you!” She said as we parted.
“I’m glad you’re using honorifics even after America.”
“Of course! Eumi reminded me to always use honorifics. Especially with you two oppas.” Ahnna pointed at me and JiHyun whilst glancing at a less elated Areum crossing her arms at what her younger sister said.
“That’s unnie to you.” Areum reminded, as Ahnna rolled her eyes.
Areum and Ahnna got into the backseat as JiHyun was about to head for the passenger door when our eyes met and I sent him a less-than-satisfied gaze. I wasn’t one to hate surprises though this type of information deserved at least a proper heads-up an hour prior. I saw Areum’s post. They have been together since earlier in the morning and not once did JiHyun message me to at least say a “Hey! Btw Areum is coming to pick you up”. I would’ve at least had a breath mint before coming out. I’m sure my breath stinks of mayo and coffee.
I got in the passenger seat as the taxi driver asked me where we were heading.
“Jinam-ro 127beon-gil.” I said as the taxi driver inputted the address on his navigation before we were on our way.
“When did you arrive here?” I asked, looking through the reflection of the rearview mirror to direct my question towards the Seong sisters.
“We arrived last night. I think around 8 pm?” Ahnna was unsure of the specifics though I saw Areum nod in the reflection to confirm that the younger was correct.
“What? Why didn’t you come to the Magnate then? Eomma and Appa could’ve served you dinner.” JiHyun asked.
“Oh, we weren’t sure what time the cafe opened or closed.” Ahnna sent a meek and shy smile before fiddling with her fingers.
“Besides, we were pretty exhausted by then and we didn’t want to bother.” Areum added.
“You guys are never a bother. You’re our family.” JiHyun spoke warmly and there was another churn in my stomach and I wasn’t so sure if this was because I was hungry.
“I’m surprised you didn’t even message me prior to your trip to Busan! I didn’t even know you were in Seoul!” JiHyun continued.
This confirmed the fact that Areum really didn’t tell anyone about their trip back to South Korea. This meant that I really couldn’t blame JiHyun and that I should’ve been cautious enough after seeing Areum’s posts.
“We weren’t planning to, but Ahnna really wanted to see Busan before she gets busy with school.”
I nodded in my seat up front before I decided on removing my cap and lowering my mask below my chin as we’d spent enough time in the taxi for me to know that the driver still respected the privacy of our conversation by not inserting himself in. I fixed my hair with a shake of my hand and checked the time on my phone to estimate what time we’d arrive at the cafe.
“Oh hyung! Did you know Ahnna is planning to enroll to SOPA?” JiHyun said as I turned back to look at the younger girl.
“School of Performing Arts at Seoul?”
“Yeah, I’m planning on joining after spring break.” Ahnna answered me as I nodded.
“My friend graduated there, I’ll see if he has some notes. It’s said to be very difficult.” I softly warned though it was a warm feeling to know that Ahnna was also interested in Arts.
“Aren’t all high schools hard though? It gets worse during college.” Areum squeezed Ahnna's shoulder before meeting my eyes through the reflection.
“Just stay focused… and keep in mind that people are here to help and support you, so don’t push us away when things get too stressful. We just want to help.” Areum’s stare burned into mine. Perhaps I was reading off her lines a bit too much, but I knew that her advice was a small jab at how I pushed her away during my years at Korean Arts High School.
“High school isn’t the end of everything, Ahnna. What department will you specialize in?” I redirected the topic.
“Practical Dance, though I’ll still give everything a try. I just know that I really want to pursue arts, whatever type it may be.”
“Are you thinking of becoming an idol?”
My question left a silence in the car. Suddenly all I heard was the rubber of the wheels against the asphalt and the engine of the taxi. I can see Ahnna and Areum give each other a look before Ahnna lets out a forced and awkward chuckle with a shake of her head.
“No… I don’t think becoming an idol is what I want.” Ahnna’s voice held uncertainty as she kept glancing at her older sister whilst playing with her fingers.
“Owh… such shame, I could’ve given some agencies a good word in for you. How old are you already?”
“I just turned 17 last year. I was going to do a year of high school here before going to university.”
“Ah! Speaking of university. Jimin hyung, when are you graduating?” JiHyun switched the topic before his hand came up behind the passenger seat.
“August. I still have a semester to go.” I smiled, more to myself though I was still proud to pursue proper education and learn a few new things I didn’t know before.
“You’re taking a major?” Areum asked in a small voice that I would’ve missed if I wasn’t so focused on gauging her reaction through the mirror.
“Yeah. Broadcasting and Entertainment major at Global Cyber University.” I turned around and sent her a closed-lip smile before turning back around, not staying too long to watch her reaction. I’d like to pretend that she smiled back and had a proud face for me, though I doubt it.
“What? So how do you do it? How do you balance idol life and University? Don’t you have a new album coming out? How do you do all your foreign promotions when you have classes?”
Areum had nudged Ahnna as the younger stopped her questions and looked shy by her curiosity. JiHyun was laughing as he squeezed the youngest by the shoulder to ease her as I myself let out a chuckle.
“You follow BTS?” I asked as Ahnna hesitantly shook her head which made me raise a brow.
“I’m not ARMY, but I listen here and there.”
“Uh huh, sure…” I showed my unconvinced tone as Ahnna widened her eyes and readied to defend herself.
“I’m interested in Arts! How could I not hear about you?!”
I let out a few laughs again as Ahnna raised her hands as part to defend herself though it looked like we had caught her like a deer in headlights.
“Well… I take online courses so I can do school and join lectures whilst I’m traveling and busy with work.” I answered, taking the hint that she was embarrassed enough by our discovery.
“And yes. We have a new album coming out so you better stream it.” I turned around and showed her a threatening face that I knew always made people laugh. I made my eyes bulge out and become wide and puffed out my nose before angling my head lower.
Tumblr media
The three of them had busted out laughing, even Areum couldn’t hold a few giggles before bringing her hand to my cheek to shove it back into my passenger seat. Her soft warm hand still lingering on my cheek as I let out a few chuckles when returning to sit properly.
I took a breath out as I couldn’t help but let a small smile stay on my lips. It was all going to be fine. I’ll make do with whatever plan the world had in having me and Areum in Busan for the same week. Perhaps I can make up for my past mistakes and we can all go back to becoming friends. Just like before, just what Seongs and Parks are made to be.
We got off the Jinam-ro street and paid the taxi driver before we started walking towards the wooden signage with the words Magnate on it. Coffee, Brunch, Bakery, Story cafe. I was undoubtedly proud of my parents for opening their own Brunch Cafe, even if they closed at ten in the evening.
“Eomma and Appa are closing early so that we can have dinner without interruptions tonight.” JiHyun smiled as we walked closer to the faux hard steel door.
“Oh… We can head back now then. We don’t want to bother—“
“You’re never a bother, Areum noona.” JiHyun quickly interrupted as the woman chewed on the sides of her cheeks.
“JiHyun. I’m sure Jimin ssi wants to have some proper family time. I can only imagine how busy he can be. Why don’t we see each other again tomorrow instead.” Areum offered though my younger brother only shook his head and stayed his ground. As I was more offended at how Areum assumed my thoughts.
“Areum noona, you and Ahnna are family! Jimin hyung doesn’t mind.” JiHyun brought me closer to him with a grab of my shoulder as the girls awaited my thoughts.
“I really don’t mind. It’d be better if you were here. Eomma and Appa would love to hear about Mr and Mrs Seong.” I sent them a smile and Areum still looked hesitant and Ahnna had a mixture of a frown and a smile on her face.
We entered the cafe and it was less busy than the rush hours of the place though I made sure my cap and mask covered most of my identity as I knew this was a hotspot for ARMYs.
My eyes wandered across the Industrial interior designing of wood, iron, and aluminum. The last time I visited the place was a week after it opened, and the media had yet to know about the place. However, after some time it was publicly known to be owned by my father and was a fan attraction spot because of its exhibitions and connections to me.
I turned my head to the right to meet my father’s eyes and he left the counter to walk up to me and embrace me in a hug. I bowed and greeted him properly as he looked behind me and smiled at the three he had seen a few hours prior.
“Let me take your bag before I make you a coffee and some bread. How was your trip?” My father walked towards my luggage though I quickly beat him to it and shook my head.
“Appa! You’re running a business now! I should be the one taking my bag away.” I smiled as he let out a few snickers at how I phrased his new title.
“Aish Jimin ah, don’t phrase it like that! Come sit down, all of you before I take your order.”
“Appa! How about I leave my bag here and we will help you with getting us some food.” I let my backpack stay on one of the black square sofas in the center lower part of the cafe before all four of us followed Appa to the counter.
“Your Eomma is out buying some dinner. We’re all eating here tonight, is that alright with you? Areum and Ahnna?” My father asked as the girls only nodded.
“Dinner already? But it’s still so early.” JiHyun asked as he checked the clock and it was only a few minutes past five in the afternoon.
“Aish, we know how you young adults get when there’s a get-together. We didn’t want to drive home at three in the morning, so the earlier we let you drink, the earlier we get to go home.”
“Yah, Pil-woo ssi! Ahnna can’t drink!” Areum was quick to remind, though our old-time father only shrugged.
“She’s already 19 in Korean age.”
“Appa!” JiHyun lightly fought back.
“Am I wrong? She’s born in 2002, no?”
I nodded as my father smiled.
“Actually, I was hoping to get a good rest tonight before I get to do any drinking during the break. I still have to go to Busan High School tomorrow in the morning.” I said as I skimmed through the pastries displayed on the clear case.
“Why, hyung?” JiHyun asked as he went behind the counter and took out a chocolate croissant with edible gold as garnish.
“I need to check up on a donation I made.” I hid my face by opting to look down to the floor.
“Donation?”
“It’s just a few desks and chairs.” I shrugged as I went behind the counter to get tongs though my dad swatted my hand away and looked at me for the pastry I wanted. I pointed at the cubed-shaped cream toast as Appa smiled and went to open the case and pick one up to place on a plate.
“Can I come with you?” JiHyun asked as I simply sent him a smile and took the plate off my father’s hand with a small bow.
“Sure, but it’ll be pretty boring.”
JiHyun raised a brow as we turned to the girls and saw that Areum had a large round cheese bread on her plate and Ahnna had a regular croissant. I waited for them to order their beverages before we all collectively sat down at the sofas. Ji Hyun sat to my left as Areum and Ahnna sat across us.
“We can go around our middle and elementary school afterward. They’re only a few blocks away, no? Let’s all take a walk down memory road or something.” JiHyun suggested as I shrugged at his preposition before taking a piece of cream toast to my mouth. The sweet buttery and creamy textures exploded on my taste buds as I let out a hum and was instantly placed in a good mood.
“JiHyun, you should probably be touring Busan with Areum and Ahnna tomorrow. They miss Busan, so it would be nice to take them to the zoo we went to or go to the aquarium.” I suggested. Though not forcefully placing myself in the way of prior plans they might’ve made since I didn’t really have a fixed plan on what to do in Busan other than to relax.
“Yes! We should do that together after visiting school!” JiHyun looked like he was building a plan in his mind as Ahnna giggled with a shake of her head at the boy.
“Look at that, Ahnna is laughing at you! Why would Ahnna want to visit school during her break before school?!”
“Aish! She’s not laughing at me! Are you Ahnna?” JiHyun asked the youngest girl as she thinned her lips to hold giggles.
“See she is! They probably have plans already, JiHyun. They don’t just come to Busan without a plan or a tour guide. They just visited us today—“
“Ah, we don’t actually have plans. We were planning on just roaming around and going to the streets we used to hang around before. A trip down memory lane or som—“
“See! A trip down memory lane in our old schools! Perfect!” JiHyun cut off Areum as I only shook my head at my younger brother.
“Where are you guys going tomorrow?” Appa approached our table with four drinks on a tray.
“School first. Then the Aquarium! Then dinner at Haeundae River Cruise! Then Gamcheon for the next day! And we should go to the Art Museum too, we haven’t been there before…” JiHyun gradually stopped his flow of ideas as his eyes scanned all four of us, including Appa, staring at him.
To be fair everything he listed were good places though the way he organized it sounds like a back-and-forth ride from the shore to the northern side of Busan, which in itself is a nightmare with traffic.
“Aish! Why are you staring?!” He asked as he took a piece of his chocolate croissant to his mouth.
I started chuckling before I burst out in a laugh that had me crouching in my seat. Bless my brother’s soul as he excitedly explained all the places he wanted both me and the Seong sisters to see. I can’t blame him. We hadn’t seen each other in a long time and we both hadn’t seen the Seong sisters for years, though I wondered where the smallest bit of his composure was kept.
“JiHyun ah, calm down. Drink some…” I looked at our similar glasses as I looked back to our Appa to ask for the name of the drink.
“Dalgona Coffee. It’s popping up everywhere and I needed taste testers for it before we put them on the menu.” He shrugged before beckoning for me and JiHyun to try since Areum had settled for a coffee and Ahnna with a tea drink.
“It tastes good, Appa.” JiHyun smiled after taking a sip of his cold drink.
“What is it?” I asked as I gave it a slight mix before tasting it, feeling their eyes to gauge my reaction.
“Coffee powder, cocoa, and hot water whipped up to put over cold milk.” Appa explained as I put the glass to my lips and tasted the perfect mixture of frothy coffee and a hint of choco with cold cream to help glide the fluffy concoction across the throat smoothly.
“Mhmm… that’s good. It’s tasty, Appa.”
Appa sent me a smile before leaving us to attend to the counter with his staff.
“You want to try?” I titled the glass towards Areum and Ahnna as the younger girl declined though Areum was hesitant in reaching out.
“It’s good. The milk really balances it out.” I said as Areum took a sip of my cup before nodding and taking another longer sip.
“Ah, you can have mine.” I smiled and raised a hand to stop her from giving it back to me. She was hesitant and tried to hand it back to me though I only chuckled and kept my eyes on both Seong sisters.
“So you don’t have ready-made plans for Busan?” I asked.
“Yeah, we’re just going with the flow… We didn’t want to feel pressured into exploring places. We just wanted to relax and feel more at home.” Ahnna explained as I avoided letting a chuckle slip my lips at how I saw Areum had almost finished the glass of cold coffee. Though I really did like that Dalgona Coffee, so I should probably try finding it or making it back in Seoul.
“I can make a few calls for the three of you to join tours. I think I have a friend who knows someone who can do private tours, so you won’t feel too pressured to catch up with a group. I’ll give them a call. Do you have places in particular that you want to check out?”
“Oh… uh— not really. Whatever JiHyun said was fine…” Ahnna was unsure of her words as Areum quickly placed the glass down on the wooden table.
“What?! Jimin ah! You don’t have to do that!” Areum said in a fairly louder and less formal tone and I couldn’t help but let a smirk rise on my lips from her more open demeanor now.
“Seriously, JiHyun is so excited to have you around that if I didn’t suggest it then he’d probably bring it up later.”
JiHyun nodded his head up and down to confirm my words.
The Seong sisters gave each other a look before Ahnna slightly nodded.
“I’ll make a call as soon as I get home.” I smiled and mentally noted myself to not forget before a figure was slowly and hesitantly approaching our table in my peripheral vision. I thought the small group of women were going to pass by our table to head for the counter or perhaps the exit though they stopped just a few steps away from our table before I looked up at them.
“Hi Jimin! We’re really big fans, do you mind if we take a picture?” One of the women said as the rest of the table looked at them.
I really didn’t want to deny them a picture though that would most probably mean that the media will know about my stay at Busan. However, I came to the conclusion that a simple selfie would be fine.
I took a selfie with the women before they left and after that most of the customers leaving would stop by and say hi or ask for a picture that I willingly took. I guessed it would be better to give them a proper picture than something they’d record without me noticing. I made sure to place a finger on my lips as a shushing motion to hint at the fact that I want my whereabouts to be private though at the end of the day it was still up to them if they’d like the media to know what I was doing.
The cafe was closing early for the night, so as soon as Eomma arrived and we were finished closing up, we picked a large dining table at the corner of the cafe to use as our dining table.
Eomma bought various Korean dishes for the occasion. Sooner than later the wooden table was filled with Mussammari, Jeyuk Bokkeum, Baked Korean BBQ Ribs, Cheese Deung Galbi, various types of Kimbap, and Kimchi. Whilst, Appa and JiHyun went to grab us a jar of Purple Lemonade. We all sat down and started eating before the conversations started flowing.
“Areum ah, how have you been?” Eomma asked from beside me as I looked across me for the girl’s response.
“I’m good Mrs.Park.” She smiled before taking a Kimbap into her mouth.
“How is America? And your school?”
“It’s lovely. I graduated with Computer Science, but I’m pursuing cosmetology as my career path.” She explained as Eomma nodded though JiHyun, Appa, and Ahnna were still in their own conversation. I couldn’t help but be impressed at how far she had come. She really did achieve a lot while I was gone. I’m so used to being there with her to celebrate accomplishments that missing them made me realize that being there for her was normal for me.
“That’s great, Eumi. How about your parents and Aaron? Will they be visiting here soon?” Eomma asked.
“Uhm… Aaron spent New Year’s in Seoul. I don’t know about Eomma and Appa.” The girl shrugged and sudden awkwardness took over her figure. Eomma had taken her change in demeanor as a moment for her to stay silent and let the girl explain further.
“Eomma and Appa aren’t on the best of terms currently. Appa moved to Texas with a few of his friends so it’s only Eomma and Aaron in New York for now.” Areum sent a tight-lipped smile though kept her eyes on the BBQ Ribs.
“Oh Eumi…” Eomma started though words seemed to get stuck on her throat.
“I’m sure everything will solve itself. Sometimes all couples need is a little bit of space.” Eomma brought her hand to Eumi’s back before softly patting her skin through the fabric of her shirt.
“Yeah… hopefully.” She sent us a smile back before we avoided topics about family during dinner and instead focused on catching up through personal achievements.
It turns out Aaron graduated with a degree in Clinical Medicine and had been slowly climbing the stages of a Hospital in New York before becoming a fully licensed Physician last year.
Ahnna loved Dance ever since she was exposed to the American Hip Hop community at the age of 13. She joined dance related after-school activities before fully pursuing dance by getting classes and a coach who recommended her to come study in South Korea as our dance programs were more favorable for her.
That’s also the reason why Areum came with her younger sister. Ahnna couldn’t come to South Korea on her own and Areum had decided to leave her part time job as a Software Developer to focus on cosmetology in Seoul. It also helped that prior to moving to Seoul, she was already taking in clients in America to master her techniques so that by the time she arrived she was able to find various stable jobs, including a job at HYBE.
She said that she really didn’t know I was an artist in HYBE, much else an idol. She didn’t expand on her thoughts about it further as she opted to switch the topic after a congratulations sent my way. So I could say that she was proud of me, though part of me felt as though I was cheating her by achieving something from the reason why we separated.
The night had ended off with no alcohol though filled stomachs and Appa decided to bring out a full-sized blueberry cheesecake and Rainbow cake.
Seeing Areum and Ahnna and actually speaking with them had brought a sense of security over the questions I asked myself after the photoshoot with the BigHit family. I left the cafe in a car with my family, happy and relaxed and this time I’m pretty sure it wasn’t just because of the Busan atmosphere.
