Earlier today it was amusing to see somebody’s tweet which read “The case for being a vegan would be slightly more compelling if vegans didn’t all look malnourished”, followed by the replies section which was FULL of vegans responding with pictures of their strong, toned and healthy looking bodies.

But it’s important to remember that being vegan doesn’t mean you are obliged to be a walking advertisement for perfect health. Veganism is NOT a diet or a fitness fad.

Veganism has been known to cure acne and other ailments, but if it didn’t cure yours, that’s okay. Veganism is about peace, not pimple removal.

Veganism has been known to help people grow muscle, but if you’re a skinny vegan, that’s okay. Veganism is about compassion, not #gains.

Veganism has been known to help people lose unwanted weight, but if you’re a chubby vegan, that’s okay. Veganism is about love, not weighing scales.

Veganism has been known to improve some people’s mental health, but if yours didn’t change, that’s okay. Veganism is about ethics, not miracle cures.

Junk food vegans, sick vegans, malnourished vegans, disabled vegans, mentally ill vegans, fat vegans and unfit vegans are all completely valid.

Veganism is ultimately about justice and morality, not about looking traditionally fit, beautiful and healthy in photos. 🌞💫✨

Some people turn vegan and find that their skin clears up and their hair gets stronger and that they shed unwanted pounds and have more energy, but that is not the case for everyone, and should be seen as a nice bonus to adapting a more considerate lifestyle, not a guarantee. Veganism often equals good health, but overall it’s about SO much more than that.
