Things batfam stans need to leave behind in 2023:

Jason's Lazarus pit rage

Thinking Tim's parents were horribly abusive and hated him

Only caring about Stephanie in terms of her relationship to another person (ex: Tim's bestie/ex/gf or Cass' gf/bestie)

Treating Jason or Stephanie like they're stupid

Feral Demon Child Damian

Permanent sunshine boy Dick Grayson

Any "[blank] was the real violent Robin" discourse

Really just any reducing or sectioning of certain traits to certain batfam members and not allowing other characters to exhibit those same traits (ex: see sunshine Dick Grayson)

But also stealing traits from other characters and projecting them onto someone else (ex: Jason getting Dick's personality in fics. He is not the same type of big brother Dick is canonically)

Purposefully mischaracterizing characters for angst (ex: Dick sent Tim to Arkham, my beloathed. also again see Tim's parents)

Trying really hard to nuclearize the family. They are an unconventional family for many reasons, and that's why they're interesting.

"Alfred solos the batfam"

Making Duke "the normal one" and completely forgetting to give him an actual personality.

Cass using sign language because she can read body language (note: does not apply to YJ Cass who has damaged vocal chords)

Cass being used as a prop for her brothers

Tim being weak, woobified baby

Don't send hate over these things because idgaf, they are harmful mischaracterizations, and many are built on total ignorance and often racism, classism, ableism, and sexism.

where you look at it as tim confirming buddie is happening the way he's talking about bucktommy purposely echoing buddie means that he's replacing buddie with bucktommy or buck and another guy and that makes me sad.

I really don't want to be snarky here, but I do truly feel like some people in this fandom are just looking for reasons to be upset. I understand that optimism is a learned and practiced skill and that this fandom has a disproportionate amount of people who lack media literacy, but for a lot of you, I truly think you won't ever be happy with anything you see on screen, even when buddie do finally get together, you'll find something to be unhappy about.

This is your burden for not being able to comprehend the story that's being told, even when tons of people in this fandom have put in countless amounts of time and emotional energy to try to explain it to you all in excruciating detail. I feel really sorry for the people who just can't sit back and enjoy the story unfolding and have to spend every waking minute trying to find something to make them mad.

Truly good stories take time. The current world we live in has trained us to crave instant gratification, and this time you aren't going to get that, plain and simple. Deal with it.

I'm glad the writers aren't just jumping headlong into buddie to appease impatient people who have never experienced the beauty of delayed gratification in their whole lives.

If you truly want to learn how to analyze media with a logical eye rather than just having purely emotional/reactive responses like this, I would recommend picking up some books or YouTube crash courses on the craft of storytelling, the art of foreshadowing, red herrings, unreliable narrators, dramatic irony, thematic patterning, etc, and also probably some books on the history of queer portrayals in the media, both in fiction and in marketing.

Lastly, if the show is causing you this must distress, you should log off tumblr.com and stop watching the show. Find a show that suits your needs better. They're out there. This one might not be for you.

A future in which we are able to move towards less death will always be preferable to the one in which we can't, and if you smug, sneering little clowns sacrifice that future on the altar of your own self-righteousness because you're too high on your own farts to realize how far up your own ass you are, I genuinely hope you fucking drown. Specifically, I hope you drown in the blood of the people who will die all over the world as a result of your bizarre refusal to work towards a future that doesn't include ethnic cleansing.

This is the United States. We sell war, here. I don't know how so many of you are only just now figuring that out, but you better get over your shock like yesterday because we are out of fucking time. We ran out of time when Reagan took office if not long before. You think not voting will improve any of this?

Keep calling, keep writing, keep screaming. Governments everywhere are (slowly) beginning to listen. Democrats are (slowly) beginning to listen. But Republicans never will, and if they seize power again next year (which they will absolutely do their damned to attempt), everything will be so, so much worse for everyone, everywhere. The work is slow and painful and imperfect but it will only get done if we show up and do the work, so keep calling, keep writing, keep screaming-- and when the time comes, you show up and vote for the future that lets us build a better tomorrow instead of just choking to death in the steaming shitpile of today.
