The Human
Cringetober 2023, Day 8: Tumblr Sexyman.
On AO3
Rating T - 546 words - Night Vale - Cecil Palmer
Summary: A human anthropomorphism of Tumblr breaks into the studio to take a picture of Cecil for the nude Tumblr Sexyman Calendar.
Story:
Listeners, a human has barged into the studio. We will return to our coverage of the impending and unstoppable sidewalk restoration plan. (Rest assured that no sidewalks will be involved.)But we must take a brief pause, dear listeners, to address this human.
They are not from Night Vale. I have never seen them before. Unlike my beloved Carlos they are not perfect and welcome. They are most unwelcome in Night Vale because they seems to have come here for me.
The human (at least that’s what I think they are) has two arms, two legs, and a head. The head is covered in a mop of messy hair colored an odd shade of blue. It is a sad blue like if the ocean feel in love with a mortal sailor that it saved from certain death, deposited on a tropical island and cared for with gifts of fish. And then one day the mortal sailor fell in love with a mortal woman who he married and travelled to a distant inland home with. And the ocean never saw the sailor again, but the ocean knew in its watery depths that it had to let the sailor live a mortal life on land. This human’s hair is the color of that ocean.
The two legs end in very loud, fun socks like a “cool” teacher would wear. When the intern complimented them, the human said “thanks I stole them from the president.” The intern is still wondering if she should call The Secret Service. Shouldn’t the president’s socks be secure? What if his feet catch cold and he dies sparking an international incident? The intern is worried and not cut out for politics.
The two arms are carrying bags of supplies and a camera. That is why the human is here. They are explaining to me. They have explained it many times to me but I still don’t understand.
I have won a contest, dear listeners, I am elected Tumblr’s Sexyman.—I hope they do not steal my socks.
The human is insisting I take the socks off, so that is suspicious. But they want me to take off all the rest of my clothes as well. So that is less suspicious.
They are explaining the concept for the shoot. (I should tell you they are speaking right now. They are speaking into the microphone. I am translating for you because their speaking voice is a typed font that appears in the air above them. I did not mention it earlier listeners because it is rude to make fun of other’s peoples’ accents. Everyone has an accent, listeners, even you and I, even the glow cloud.)
This has gotten questionable. The human is asking that once I remove my clothing, I cover myself modestly with wheat and wheat-by-products. This is apparently for a picture. The picture is apparently for a calendar.
The human is saying that the calendar will benefit charity (I am not entirely sure I believe them).
Will I get arrested for taking this picture? More importantly, dear listeners, do you think Carlos will enjoy it?
If the secret police come to arrest me for possession of wheat and wheat-by-products please ensure that Carlos gets a copy of these photos.

For anyone who is looking for another gay fiction horror podcast to listen to I highly recommend “Unwell, a Midwestern Gothic Mystery” it’s super good, with lots of mystery elements and great queer and bipoc rep! It’s the podcast that got me in to fiction podcasts, and if I had to describe it in relation to other media I would say that it is like the small town mystery of gravity falls combined with the podcasty goodness of The Magnus Archives or Welcome To Nightvale! It’s got LOTS of ghosts and even more celery. I love this podcast so much, and I never really see it discussed much online so I hope you check it out!

Still absolutely distraught about my shipwreck podcast getting canceled by their producer. I love disaster podcasts and there are very few as good as Ship Hits the Fan.
Legitimately having trouble falling asleep lately (because yes I like to listen to fresh episodes of familiar podcasts to go to sleep and sometimes they have to do with disasters, don’t judge me). I might have to rotate back to listening to audiobooks of Rolling In the Deep and Into the Drowning Deep until I can once more recite them in my sleep. They’re surprisingly soothing to me, but it does help my ADHD to consume new information but in familiar voices I know I can listen back to if I fall asleep midway through, and I am OUT OF REGULAR PODCASTS THAT SERVE THAT PURPOSE ATM.
So I guess I’m going back to murder mermaids for a while. Murder mermaids love me. Murder mermaids won’t let me down.

This is probably gonna be the most self indulgent fanfic I’ve ever written.
Based on these posts  X, X  by @bulkhummus
This is meant to take place after episode 227 but before the next episode.
Tw: Violence
Cecil coughs and spits out a tooth that had been knocked loose from the punch he had just endured from Dr. Jones. It was the last in a series of them from Dr. Lubelle’s team.
“Had enough?” Dr. Jones taunts, smirking down at Cecil, convinced that they had won. They had been going about this for a good 15 minutes now, and Cecil had just heard Lubelle take over his show, the man should be begging for mercy about now.
Cecil can't help the smirk that appears on his face, “Please, my weekly re-education is worse than this.” He taunts his captor and current torturer. It was true after all, this was nothing. It hurt sure, but he had been through worse.
Dr. Jones sneers, getting in Cecil’s face, “We will break you Cecil. It is only a matter of time.”
Cecil scoffs, “I’d like to see you try.”
Dr. Jones glares at him, pulling his head up by his hair, Cecil groans slightly at the feeling but he refuses to say anything. “Is that a challenge?”
Cecil doesn't respond, not like he has the time to. Almost immediately after being asked, Dr. Jones lands another punch on his face, this time with brass knuckles, causing a gash in the side of Cecil’s face. Cecil yells out in pain but he will not crack so easily.
It takes hours of various torture methods before the scientists start to lose hope. They'd tased him, beat him practically senseless, water-bored him, everything and besides being obviously hurt, Cecil didn't seem any closer to breaking than when they started.
Dr. Jones stomps his foot, "Ugh! Why won't you just give up already?! Hell, how are you even still alive?"
Cecil offers no response, squaring his jaw as he prepares himself for whatever is next. He wouldn't give in, he couldn't. He needed to hold firm on this. He would not betray his town or himself.
Dr. Jones runs his hand through his hair as he paces, frustrated beyond belief. He was almost tempted to let Cecil go. What else was there to do? Cecil didn't care at all what they did to him. There had to be something that would make him tick. Everyone had a weakness of some kind.
It was then that he was brought back to the night at the Moonlight All Night Diner, the one thing that got under Cecil's skin. He looks to another scientist. "you know, maybe it's time we bring Carlos into this."
Cecil's head snaps up to look at them and he struggles against his binds. "NO!" He roars, his voice filled with panic.
Dr. Jones chuckles darkly, there it was, the reaction they'd been dying to get from him, "Ah, so there is something that gets to you."
Cecil gives Dr. Jones the dirtiest look he's given anyone in his whole life and if looks could kill, Dr. Jones would be dead, "You leave Carlos out of this."
"And why should I? You are so... Unresponsive to everything else. So the only logical option, would be to bring in the one person that's gotten a reaction from you." Dr. Jones asks with a tone of arrogance.
Tears fall from Cecil's eyes, and he fights against the restraints violently, injuring his wrists as he does. "Don't you dare! If you bring Carlos into this I'll- I'll-"
"You'll what? Come on Cecil, threaten me, stoop down to my level, I’m sure Carlos will love that.” He taunts the man before him as he watches him squirm and struggle more desperately than he had the entire time they had been torturing him.
Cecil falls silent at that, he can't help but think of his husband and how disappointed he would be in him if he did stoop down to his level, but it was so hard not to. His resolve was cracking now at the idea of his sweet husband, the love of his life, sitting across from him being treated the same way he was being treated, he couldn't let that happen, he wouldn't. Not to mention, what would they do with their son? Who would watch him? No. No, he couldn't spiral like this right now. Finally, he swallows nervously, “I’m being held against my will. I’m sure Sherif Sam would love to arrest you for that and assault.” He says, grasping desperately at straws, he was pretty sure he had said the right things.   Dr. Jones can't help but laugh, “Oh Cecil. Cecil, Cecil, Cecil, even if someone did tell him, they would still have to find you and they would have to get past our security. Face it, you're trapped. And soon, your husband will be too. Unless of course, you start to see things, our way.” He says with a smug smirk on his face.  He looks at the doctor that stands in front of him, his third eye the only one that remains open. he was battered and bruised and honestly exhausted. But he could handle all of that, What he couldn't handle was the idea of his husband, an innocent bystander in all this, being forced to endure this torture. He hangs his head in defeat. He couldn't believe it had come down to this. Betraying his town, the place he loved so dearly, the people he had grown up with, his friendly desert community. He didn't want to do this, but what choice did he have? He loved his town, but he loved his husband more. “Fine.”  Dr. Jones claps his hands together, “Excellent, first things first, we need to figure out that extra eye of yours.”

WTNV 19 SPOILERS
Just a little something I thought about after Cecil gave us The Weather in 19B. Btw idk if they use dvds or wtf for The Weather but I cant think of it being anything else soooo
He fumbled with the thin box as he tried to open it, his hands slipping because of the heavy, dark blood that made Cecil gag. He finally opened it and he found that, unlike the whole studio, it was in pristine condition. As if new.
Somehow that made the scorching acid that climbed his throat slowly get to its destination faster.
As he tried to take out the dvd he noticed the blood that covered his hands and dried under his nails, trying to enter into his body and corrupt him, eat him from the inside out.
Acid spurted out of his mouth, and he coughed so much that he thought 'Maybe my lungs will explode from the force, and then i won't be able to go...' Big tears flowed down his eyes and he sobbed, still coughing. His legs and hands hurt from the teeth biting at his skin, at some point he had fallen to his knees.
When his lungs were finally back to normal, without air or movement, he took the dvd out and inserted it on, even more of that gut wrenching liquid came out of the machine and Cecil gulped down the bile that attempted to rise.
Music sarted, and he went back through the Vortex, hoping that wherever, or to whoever, it took him would be home.

we finally caught up on WTNV
#this is the first and only time we've ever been caught up on it. we've been listening since 2019 or so#most of how we caught up starting from 203 was by reading the transcripts and listening to portions of audio#we weren't able to handle doing the full audio episodes#it's. uh. i need some time to think about things. since we've started engaging more in fandom spaces#even if all we're doing is reblogging fanart and all that#i've been having a harder time openly being a fictive. and i always feel strange talking to singlets that are fans of my source#i feel scared that my presence is going to make them uncomfortable to engage in media. that i'm doing something wrong by existing nearby#i don't want to deprive anyone of anything they enjoy. i don't want people to feel awkward talking to me because. well.#i'm blorbo from their podcasts or whatever. i want to be recognized as a person. just a person who happens to also be a fictional character#i feel bad reblogging things from people who are into my source and tagging it as Cecil's tag even if its unrelated to WTNV#because i don't want them to feel like i'm imposing myself and my strangeness on them. and i don't want to give them the same media issues#that we deal with. a lot of our media issues comes from psychosis yes but a part of it is also from being fictives and knowing about them#like i know so fully well that i'm extremely weird and not in the good way. that most people don't and won't believe me about myself#and i don't want to weird them out. i'm terrified TERRIFIED of accidentally letting a WTNV fanartist find out that i'm Cecil and#getting blocked for being some crazy weirdo or whatever. i just. it's a big worry i guess is what there is to say#i want to talk to people and i want to be myself but i think on some level i wish that my self was something else#like. i don't want people to feel like they can't treat fiction as fiction just because i exist#i don't want them to shy away from discussing character's traumas or putting them in  weird AUs or whatever#do whatever the hell you want with it my presence shouldn't scare you off from it#i'm kind of repeating myself at this point so i'm gonna stop so. yeah#if you read this full thing we'd appreciate a like on this if that's okay just for paranoia reasons#rambling#Cecil's tag

The Human Chapter 2
Cringetober 2023, Day 25: Gijinka
On AO3
Rating T - 560 words - Nightvale - Cecil & Tumblr
Summary: A human anthropomorphism of Tumblr breaks into the studio to take a picture of Cecil for the nude Tumblr Sexyman Calendar.
Story:
Dear listeners I am bring you an update on my new title as Tumblr Sexy-man. I am once again joined in the studio by the being that I previously identified as the human. They have explained to me that the human is not an entirely accurate description.
I apologized profusely for my assumptions. My own aunt is not a human but also not-not a human. She is a secret other thing that defies all explanation and description. Despite the fact this has been her known state of being for many, many, many years it is still often the source of annual holiday fights in my family.
We annually celebrate the coming of celestial darkness and the dead visiting from the other world with a large family gathering.  And the spirit of my great-great-great-grandfather insists that my aunt can’t both not be human and not-not human.
Which is just like such a bummer. Let it go man. Identity is an ever evolving concept you don’t have to anthropomorphize everything. We could be eating our marshmallow crusted ham-product in peace. But no. We have to have this same arbitrary conversation about what the exact nature of being is. UGH….
But then again, Great^3 Grandfather also keeps insisting that mountains are real and he passes through them every time he travels from the Otherworld back to our World. So, he’s crazy.
Anyway, the “human” (they said it was fine as long as you pronounce the parenthesis) is actually the personification of a webbed site. I clarified if they meant webbed like the toes of a frog. They said, “yes”. Then proceeded to tell me facts about frogs. Several facts were urban myths or were deliberately made up. At one point there was a video of frogs in party hats celebrating one frog’s birthday. Then there was a link that claimed to be the frog’s birthday present but was actually a link to Rick Astley singing “Never Gonna Give You Up. They then showed me a comic summarizing all the other things they showed me.
What’s this? Oh, It’s beautiful! I have good news, they have given me an advance copy of the Sexyman Calendar. Which is just wow. Really nice. There are other men in it though. Which I didn’t realize would happen. Can this still be a gift for Carlos? Can I rip out the months that don’t feature me? What has February ever done for Carlos? Nothing.
There is a small squishy skeleton, who is even more nude then I am in my pictures. After all, I am still wearing my skin. He was apparently the runner-up. Which, I mean, I get it.
There’s a very skinny man with green gloves. Why do the gloves go up his arms so far? That is all he’s wearing though. He seems like he would talk a lot at parties. Like you would keep hinting that it was time for you to circulate around the room. But he would keep talking. He would just keep talking.
I think December is my favorite month. It’s one of the last photos the “human” took during my shoot. We had started to get very experimental. It’s just my socks hung on the mantle and stuffed to bursting with wheat stalks. I really think that says it all, listeners.

Hey!! I’m curious, in what ways do you think wtnv sucks? I’m not necessarily disagreeing but I can’t think of anything tbh and your tag made me start wondering
Hi!
No piece of media is perfect, and expecting it to be is unfair to the creator, and unrealistic of the consumer. Being able to consciously understand the ways in which something you love also has flaws is a healthy way of engaging with the things you enjoy without succumbing to the all-or-nothing mentality of being able to enjoy, well, anything!
I love wtnv, obviously, it's about 90% of my blog, and I have listened to it for a very long time. I respect the creators (including the actors) for what they have accomplished.
However, there are a few things about wtnv that I as a listener and long-time fan have recognized as, lets call them, potential critiques. Sucks is too strong a word because I’m not focusing on specific instances where they have messed up (and they have, people make mistakes). This isn’t a list where I tell you specific things— but rather I just explain to you some thoughts I have about the show. This is, by no means, a complete or solitary list, or even an ‘accurate’ one. This is just my own opinion and you're welcome to disagree.
Consistency
I do not have the expectation of wtnv having continuity. I never once have, due to the nature of what it is, what it's about, and how it's written. I don't care if facts change. Cecil is an unreliable narrator. Timelines shatter and splinter off regularly in the show. Time doesn't work right for most of the podcast. The Cecil we listen to currently is not the same Cecil we were introduced to. Writers make mistakes when shows have been on for over a decade. etc etc etc. Instead, I use the word consistency.
The show lacks consistency in story telling. This is its strength! WTNV was a podcast made by a small group of people that skyrocketed in popularity very quickly. It was a passion project. It was a bunch of think pieces where the writers got to explore different styles of writing, different characters, and their thoughts and feelings on current events in real life. That’s what it was built on. It was recorded in a coat closet on a shitty mic and then suddenly it became a livelihood with a massive following. So, the show lacks consistency in story telling, which to me has always been the joy of it, because of its freedom to do as it pleases. A lot of ‘plot’ would happen and we’d leave on a cliffhanger, and in classic Night Vale fashion, it’d be like 4 months before you heard about it again. However.
WTNV was introduced as a serial podcast where the only consistency was that they'd upload twice a month. With the introduction of mini-arcs, and later longer arcs (such as STREX, the DOW, or UOWII) the writers introduced the expectation of continuity. The story would build over the course of several episodes and resolve in some type of way. This requires more planning and greater attention to detail than episodes that are one-off or ongoing by the nature of what the show initially was. My issue here is that they have given themselves the problem of continuity given how they write longer arcs now — but they just don’t seem to fact check or communicate with one another when it comes to these arcs that span several episodes or rely upon info from older episodes. Now, the show often feels like its fighting between what it wants to focus on, and how it focuses on it and I am left sensing this inconsistency that I once used to enjoy. Which brings me to my next point.
Understanding A World
WTNV is a show about a fictional town, told by an unreliable narrator in the form of a radio show. When the show started, I felt it understood that very well. New characters were introduced as callers, or interviews on local news, ad reads, and even Cecil playing his voicemail on air. It operates under a VAUGE set of rules (but rules nonetheless) that this was a radio show.
There have been several instances, more recently, where I feel as if the show forgets that Cecil is a radio host and the story is told through his perspective about 90% of the time. It is that exciting 10% where we gain insight to the same stories from different characters giving us new information.
For example, having Carlos and Janet go back and forth at one another in the finale of the UOWII arc completely casts aside Cecil's perspective as the narrator, and as having control over the story. Cecil hated Janet. it would have been more amusing and in character for him to have ad libbed whatever Janet said and only play Carlos' parts -- only for her to burst into his live studio outraged that he wasn't fairly reporting and THEN tell her side of the story after wrestling the mic away from him.
My issue here is that, more recently, it feels as if they forget that operating under rules, or constraints, in story telling, actually helps them be more creative in how information gets delivered to the listener.
I think how they use their patreon needs a massive overhaul too but thats a different post. Which brings me to my next point.
Hand Holding
They are good writers. They are capable of balancing humor and horror in a way that enhances both. I have felt gutted, I have felt hopeful, and I have felt absolutely feral after certain episodes because they have good ideas and can write well!
So it becomes really frustrating when they just tell me a bunch of stuff without it being reflected in the show, or they don’t trust themselves as writers. I get it. Not every episode can be their best, but there have been several instances recently, in moments where it really counts, where I am just being told what's going on instead of it going on. I’m being told why things are happening instead of listening to them happen, and often I feel they forget they are writing something to be performed. They don’t need to explain all of their metaphors or explain what the point of a characters actions are. The audience is not stupid and things don’t always need to be spelled out. Which brings me to my next point.
Writing for an Audience
All creators have to work off of in terms of how well something is doing is fan engagement, especially in a smaller project like this. However, they have an audience that varies in ages of 11-45 given how long this show has been running for. Go to a live show you will see what I mean. How do you write for an audience who is that diverse in age? Should you have to? Is it bad engagement to not think about your audience? Sometimes something a 30 year old understands, a 11 year old may not. Not for any other reason but time and lived experience. Theres things 30 year olds forget about being 11! That’s how it works.
And while this is less of a problem they may have, it’s something I noticed about the reception of different episodes by fans. The second to last live show I went to I had the enjoyment of listening to two 13/14 year olds sitting behind me offering their vastly different perspectives on some recent episodes, especially given the fact that I heard one of them say they had only just started listening after listening to the first 100 episodes summary. Which brings me to my next point.
Duration
Everything I have said previously comes back to the duration of the show. I think its impressive that its been running for over a decade with consistency. And they should! In a perfect world, WTNV would run forever because of how much I love it. I love this show and I don’t want it to end. HOWEVER. If the quality of something begins to degrade because there is not enough time dedicated to it and the creators no longer find it engaging and exciting then I’d want it to come to an end. They’re people. They want to work on new things. I respect that! And I’d be heartbroken if the show faded out or ended in a rushed manner in an unsatisfying way because they decided on a whim they don’t want to make it anymore.
I think it is a disservice to the work, effort and history of the show for them to create a 100 episode summary and tell people to start there. Idc. “But Bulk people might not want to listen to 10 years worth of podcasting—“ Babes the show is 245 episodes long. They’re like 25 min a pop not including ads. It’s a bimonthly show. Buckle up and settle down. The creators should take pride in their work, and how long the shows been on for, and be encouraging people to start from the beginning. Let people experience for the first time what many people fell in love with. Why on EARTH would you tell people to NOT start at the beginning? To me, as a long time fan, it feels like the creators don’t have faith or pride in their work.
I’m not saying they don’t dedicate time to their show of 10 years, because how could I know that, but, when they don’t fact check (because now there is the precedent of continuity, especially with newer fans, because they chose to write more serially) and they tell fans its ok to not start at episode 1, and they are advertising other projects on WTNV episodes where fans call them out for not fact checking and and and— where does that lead me as a fan? It sometimes makes me feel like they don’t care about what they’re making anymore.
I also think that this show has become a means of income for them. And it has. They have a patreon now, they do shows, they sell merch. What was once a passion project for them is now a product. People who pay for something demand a better quality— thats like almost universally true. And people who are newer fans, and don’t understand what podcasting was like a decade ago, who don’t know what WTNV was like a decade ago, don’t have that background knowledge of what the show was built up on and created as (ie. A bunch of experimentations, think pieces, and whacky one-offs as previously mentioned).
Because they’re telling fans not to listen to the first 100 episodes and focusing on more serial story telling. Am I making sense? It’s all connected and I feel like I’m making sense.
Conclusion
I love WTNV but, in my opinion, it was never meant to be what fans often demand it to be, and the creators sometimes have to respond to. What I fell in love with it for is often the things I see people criticize it for. It’s this story that sort of does what it wants, when it wants, because that’s how it started. It’s grown into something else now, which all things do over time, and I just hope they don’t grow it into something it is not if they aren’t careful. The show was is deeply unserious but also really interesting and exciting and chilling and worth the time spent, despite the ways it may be imperfect. Perfectly imperfect, if you will (wink wink).
You don’t have to agree with what I’ve said here, and maybe none of it reads true for you, because I really am just speculating and offering thoughts, and thats fine! I’d never tell someone their viewing of the show is wrong, but I do think it’s good to stop and think about your favorite pieces of media like this. Anyways thats why it sucks or whatever

Project Spotlight #4: The Ichorous Rot
Time for another project spotlight! Today, we're chatting with Sam from The Ichorous Rot.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your teammates!
@spinning-logic: Hey-o, I'm Charlie. I will be voice acting, sound editing, and assisting in some writing for our Podcast Jam entry! My first ever fiction podcast was Welcome to Night Vale (as it is for many, I'm sure), and my current favorite is pretty squarely tied with Malevolent and The Magnus Archives--though I'm truly loving Protocol too. I'm dipping my toes into hearing even more podcasts, like WOE.BEGONE and Old Gods of Appalachia. This is the first Podcast I've ever worked on, and hopefully what I learn from it will lead to creating more!
@moookar: Hi hi hello, I’m Mooo! I’m voice acting and writing. I’ve never worked on a podcast before TIR, but boy oh boy do I have lots of experience listening: WOE.BEGONE, Malevolent, and The Grotto are some of my current favorites, and I got started listening with The Magnus Archives and Dimension 20. Most of all, I’m just a fan of any speculative fiction I can get my hands on.
@gooboogy: I'm G! I do the music and some of the voice acting for The Ichorous Rot. I've been listening to audiobooks for ages and I listened to The Adventure Zone but only really started listening to audio dramas about a year ago with The Magnus Archives and Malevolent. It's not until I listened to WOE.BEGONE that I considered doing one myself! I don't have a fav podcast, but I have some fav characters such as Lucas Miller, Elias Bouchard, Kayne, and Ty Betteridge respectively. My fav genre is when Shit Gets Weird and I love it best when there's fucked up little blorbos :3
@fluxoid: Hey there! I'm Niall! I'll be doing some of the voice work for the Ichorous Rot. I've been listening to audio drama (and actual play) podcasts for over a decade now, starting with Welcome to Night Vale (of course). Current favorites are probably WOE.BEGONE and Midst, though I'm listening to many more. This is my first foray into the creative side of things and I'm excited to see where it goes!
@falloutcoys: Hello, I'm Sam! I'll be co-writing for The Ichorous Rot. I got started listening to WTNV in 2014 but really got into audio dramas when I picked up TMA in 2021. My current favorite pods have to be Midst,Not Quite Dead and WOE.BEGONE! This will be the first show I'm involved being published, but I'm writing my own passion project as well (@aboardtheichthyoid).
What's your podcast about?
Our project is set in 1880s West Virginia. Dr. Theodore Yates as he's overwhelmed in his duties as Janesville’s only doctor by a mysterious illness spreading through the town. We follow him through a combination of his own medical notes recorded on a wax cylinder, and snippets of audio following him and his best friend Alonzo as he tries to find a way to resolve The Ichorous Rot. It's a mystery that explores the effects of working class life and generational trauma through a supernatural lens.
What are you most excited about in this event?
This event has been such a great learning opportunity and way to collaborate with others! Everyone has had great ideas and we're able to bounce off each other and flesh out the story together, which is a really unique experience.
Any advice for other participants, or those on the fence about joining?
If you've been on the fence about joining, go for it! This is a really fun experience and it has the lowest possible stakes. Worst case scenario, you've met some great people and learned about producing a podcast. Best case scenario, you make an episode you're really proud of that grows into something much bigger.
While this team is no longer looking for new members, you can follow their project here on Tumblr @theichorousrot. Additionally, with a couple days left to sign up, there's still time to join the fun and work on a Podcast Jam project yourself - find out more information here!

We are creating a new horror fiction podcast called Purple Magnolia. It is about a first year college student, Rowan Fisher, stumbling upon something strange while exploring the campus of Fairview University. As they try to figure out what is going on, they find themself being dragged deeper and deeper into the horrors that lay all around them.
