I don’t write my characters, my characters write themselves and I just pick up the broken pieces left by their ill advised hijinks and repressed traumas and try to cobble them together into a coherent narrative

love when I'm writing and an administrative character is 'doing paperwork' or 'looking over his papers.'
Do I know what the papers are or what he's doing with them? Absolutely not, but the scene is set and you are immersed.
