Fellow writers who come up with wild and/or complicated as hell worldbuilding! Share some of your highlights!
I'll go first:
Two major systems of currency that dramatically increase and decrease in value across the continent in direct conjunction with which particular major country is closer;
Magical person-eating eels who have their own entire society underneath a particular city that never becomes relevant because they think everyone else is frustrating and terrible, who have exactly one (1) ambassador to interface with the outside world but who decided that everyone else was (still) frustrating and terrible and now works as an assassin for hire instead of doing that and just sends the occasional trade good back home with their stipend;
Pseudo-electricity that works by summoning spirits from outside of the world to come hang out in your batteries
#i was gonna mention the crawlers vs the sand-rattlers but i figure that's a little long#'there are two kinds of giant man-eating centipedes in this one desert but one type is just regular guys who only eat you if you start it'#'and the others are like cursed with hunger from another world and a hole in their stomach that leaves the dimension entirely and they will#eat literally anything alive and never stop until they die and they're close enough in general appearance that people from outside the EB#region tend to sort of conflate them so as a result the sand-rattlers tend to take a VERY dim view of outsiders and will attack first if#they get a bad vibe which doesn't really help their reputation but they're chill enough and will happily hang out if you're cool and make i#clear you don't want a fight'#anyway i love wild and wacky worldbuiding. everyone hop on#writeblr#writeblr game

Chinese Zodiac Ask Game
For your character(s) or yourself!! Like most horoscopes/zodiacs, they tend to be vague and varying depending on source. I'm winging it but thought it would be fun! See more info on the zodiacs here 💖
🐭 Rat - is your character charming? do they have social suave or are they wallflowers?
🐮 Ox - is your character a hard worker or a slacker? do they plan before they start things or do they just wing it?
🐯 Tiger - is your character courageous? do they brave scary situation head-on, or what do they do to build up courage?
🐰 Rabbit - does your character prefer peace and quiet, or do they thrive in busy, loud environments?
🐉 Dragon - is your character lucky? do they believe in luck or fate?
🐍 Snake - is your character wise? do they use their intelligence and wisdom for good or evil? are they cunning or kind?
🐴 Horse - is your character elegant? do they care about their appearance or what others think of them?
🐐 Goat - is your character artistic? do they create? how is their sense of fashion?
🐵 Monkey - is your character creative? do they often dwell on fantasies in their heads? were they imaginative as kids or now?
🐔 Rooster - is your character dignified and organized? do they plan far in advance? how do they handle finances?
🐶 Dog - how does your character respond to injustice? do they actively fight it? are they loyal to their causes, big or small?
🐷 Pig - does your character seek peace? or do they thrive in conflict? do they try to mediate conflicts around them, or avoid it?

Rose's Writing Tips #3: Word Lists
Another hack I use to get the words flowing is word lists.
It sounds simple, and it is, but it works, and I always end up writing something, even if it's short.
Here are the two steps:
Make a list of words off the top of your head. One trick I like to use is to start with a word and change one letter for each subsequent word. Example: hollow/follow/fallow/wallow/willow/pillow, etc.
Pick at least three words and write as much as you like (but at least a sentence) about each of them. You can also combine words into a prompt.
I just did this yesterday and ended up writing much more than I expected, which led to three new drafts of flash fiction that I intend to polish up.

This is from a chapter in Prodigal Heiress, in which a bar owner with secrets and hidden agenda finds himself drawn to the woman he has just offered a work:
Justin turned away from the scene, now a veritable tableau under bright colourful lights and newly acquired patrons enjoying the night, employees ensuring that they would be satisfied and well-drunk, the music in their vibrant notes and dancing paces…but by now, the man he had watched had left, according to Pascual and had returned to his hole. Justin watched Clarisse leave with her companions and he whispered to himself as he returned to his office:
“Who are you really, Mademoiselle Clarisse Berenguer?”

I’ve never started my own game before but I feel like I need to put some positivity out there right now. Whether it be an entire WIP or just a chapter of it, include your first line and also the last (or most recently written) line. I’ll go first:
First line of TTA:
The first day of the perfect job should dawn bright and clear and full of promise.
Most recent line:
She didn’t like tea much, but a few sips of any hot bitter liquid in the morning seemed to help wake her up.

it's probably not surprising to hear my favourite novel of all time is house of leaves by mark z. danielewski!!
okay. so for real i would not have written the art of betrayal, my own published novel, without house of leaves. i got my copy for my 15th birthday, and a day later, i started writing taob!
sure, it's not a book for everyone, but it was certainly a book for me. sure, there are skippable parts (ie. johnny every time he has a one-night-stand because im ace and can't stand it). and sure it's confusing but OUGHHH THIS BOOK
hi yes i am planning to get at least five (5) passages of this novel tattooed on me at some point in my life. its construction as a visual storyteller is unmatched, and the dark recesses that this narrative reaches is pretty unparalleled.
my absolute favourite thing about it is that the novel is written almost as if it's examining itself. which is so bizarre. especially when you are reminded that this was danielewski's debut novel and he would have had no idea the cultural impact it would have, and yet here the novel is talking about becoming ingrained into the country's cultural experience.

Lemon Tree Lane
Lizzie doesn’t stop until she’s halfway in the second floor hallway, her heart racing and her tail wrapped tight around her waist. She’s gripping the camera in her paws so tightly that it actually makes them ache.
Nothing comes up after her.
“Come on, Lizzie, pull yourself together. Haven’t even been in here for an hour, and you’re already jumping at shadows.” She forces herself to take a deep breath, though it does very little to calm her down.
The hallway stretches out in the shape of an L. Two doors on the right side. Three on the left. Then it takes a sharp turn to the right; one door at the very end of the hallway before her view stops.
“This is fine. This is fine!” Lizzie’s fur is puffed up. “Every room, that was the deal. Alright. Every room it is.”
She squares her shoulders and proceeds to stay right where she’s at for a good three minutes, unable to pull herself away from the relative safety of pressed-to-the-wall.
When she does, she darts across the narrow passage of worn wood and a thrown out red rug, and into the first door on the right side of the room. Lizzie makes sure to firmly shut the door behind herself, then fishes for the big flashlight in her bag and clicks it on.
The white beam of light arcs through the room; an old smoking room, covered in ancient porcelain dolls, their curls spiderweb caked, with a chaise lounge that has a filthy white sheet over it and a window, lace curtains hung above it, that should peek out over the same stretch of yard that tree had been in.
Hoping for a breath of fresh air, Lizzie hurries over to the window. She balances both her camera and the flashlight on the nearby table, brushes the curtain aside with one paw – and freezes.

Welcome to the seventh day of the Writeblr Summerfest! We have so many amazing things planned for this month, but first, I want to introduce Lizzy! She’s the driving force behind the community selected Haunted House theme for the festival this year!
Now, before we get started, I want you to take a look at Lizzy! She’s the mascot this year! She’s called a minky, and her character sheet was made by the lovely @mothersart! Now, Mother has volunteered her services to do what we’re calling grab bag commissions for anyone that wants their own minky explorer to take part in the events! She currently has THREE OPEN SLOTS.
Here’s a LINK to her commission sheet, but I’ll summarize it for you, too! She has two options.
$10 gets you a total grab-bag surprise minky explorer, you don’t get to customize it but you get to own the character forever onward!
$15 lets you pick a ‘theme’ for the explorer; do you love pastel goth? Cottagecore? Skateboarding? Let her know, and it will be the inspiration for your minky (ps, you still own them)!
While it’s not a requirement, I highly recommend you considering it if you’ve got the spare change laying around! Mother has been a huge help getting things together with the event this year, and her minkies are just absolutely amazing!
