WIP Wednesday: a slightly shamefaced return

It's been approximately 7000 years since I last actually did a WIP Wednesday post, but here's to hoping I can (somewhat) get back in the habit! This is an excerpt from chapter 7 of (Love) Triangles - which will be posted soon btw.

This scene follows straight on from chapter 6, when Superman does an oopsie and collapses from kryptonite exposure. If anyone's been on tenterhooks for the past wondering what happens to him after that, then here's your answer! Spoiler: he's mostly fine.

When Clark drifted groggily and resentfully to consciousness, the first thing he saw was the impenetrable, gunmetal gray of sheet metal.

He felt his face twitch painfully in something that wanted to be a frown. His bedroom ceiling wasn’t covered in sheet metal, last he checked. Neither was his room back in Smallville, or the old break room at the Planet with the good couch.

Where was he?

He tried to sit up, but his limbs were heavy and clumsy. The sudden pain the movement sparked in his head made him collapse back down onto the…bed? That definitely wasn’t his bed either, the mattress was too hard and the pillow too soft and un-lumpy.

“Ohmygod. You’re awake?”

Clark blinked once, twice, then mustered the energy to creak out a, “Yeah, I’m awake. Where am I?” Only he ran out of energy midway through, and his throat was dry enough that his voice was rebelling against him, so it came out as a hoarse, “Yeah m’wake. Wuh?”

Thankfully, the owner of the voice didn’t seem to mind. “You’re awake!” Whoever it was, they sounded excited. Clark heard rapid footsteps, then the too-loud sound of a door slamming open. He winced. “B, get over here, he’s awake!”

The door closed by itself with a click, and he was alone again. God, his head was pounding. He always forgot how much headaches sucked until they happened. He didn’t get them very often, what with the invulnerability and everything. In fact, he only ever got them after he’d—

Oh. That was it. Kryptonite.

The memories were still hazy, but they were coming back to him now. Luthor’s underground lab. The argument, the gunshot, Robin screaming from inside, the soft crinkle of concrete beneath his fingertips. Batman on the floor, Robin mid-dive, the guard with his gun raised, the squeeze of the trigger. He could feel his strength draining even as he moved at super speed, pushed, pushed, pushed, crumpled the gun in his fist, flew Batman and Robin out of there, carefully knocked out the two guards and then a third so she couldn’t raise the alarm. Fast, faster, before he ran out of strength. He’d made it outside to find Batman hugging his protégé tight to his chest, both of them alive and well. Whatever tension had carried him through all that snapped, seeing that. His promise was fulfilled. They were safe.

He remembered watching them for a time, remembered feeling that warm ache he most associated with friends’ weddings and feel-good movies. Remembered the pain and nausea only getting worse with time instead of better, Batman staring at him with blank bewilderment, and then…nothing. Waking up here.

But if that voice he’d heard belonged to who he thought it did, that meant…

“You’re awake.”

Clark ignored the ache in his limbs and head and pushed himself to a sitting position. “Batman! You brought me here?”

Batman handed him a glass of water, which Clark accepted gratefully. “I did. How are you feeling?”

Clark grimaced. He felt weak, he hurt everywhere, and his senses were practically human level. The world felt disconcertingly quiet.

Coming off kryptonite was never fun.

“Not great,” he said. “But getting there, I think.” His eyes dipped to Batman’s chest, where he knew the bullet had hit him earlier: the two cracked ribs near his right elbow, the nasty bruise that had undoubtedly formed over it while he’d been unconscious. “How’s your injury?”

“Seen to. Worry about yourself, you’re the one on the gurney,” Batman said coolly, which Clark thought was kind of missing the point. All Clark needed was some sun and he’d be right as rain. He wasn’t in any real danger, not anymore; Batman’s cracked ribs would take weeks to heal.

He glanced around. The room he was in looked like some kind of medical suite, sterile and silver-white with tiled flooring and a row of neat cupboards on the far wall. Assorted medical equipment was scattered around the room, as well as a small fleet of lamps, all switched on and aimed at him. UV lights?

“Were those your idea?” he asked. When Batman didn’t respond, he clarified, “The lamps. You were trying to give me solar energy? To help me heal?”

There was a brief pause then a nod. “Yes. I thought it would help.”

“Well, you were right,” Clark said. “I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that you know that much about Kryptonians.” Not that Clark had ever made a point of mentioning his reliance on solar radiation, but he hadn’t really been trying to hide it either. Batman had probably pieced it together from interviews or something.

He looked over at Batman. He was still hovering by the doorway, as if unsure whether to come in, though his face and body language were as unreadable as ever.

“Thank you,” Clark said with a smile – or an attempt at one, at least. The result felt a little more strained than he’d hoped. “For taking me to safety and for doing your best to help me heal. I appreciate it.”

“You helped me. I’m just returning the favor,” Batman replied equitably and gestured to the lamps. “But this setup is just my best guess at what would help you. Is there anything else you need?”

“Light in the lower end and mid-range of the visible spectrum is also helpful,” Clark said. “But honestly, this is enough.”

Batman nodded. “Noted.”

“Oh, and it works better if I’m naked.”

There was a pause. Batman’s fingers twitched.

“Naked,” he repeated.

“Yes. Or at least less clothed. It’s easier for my skin to absorb the light directly,” he explained. “So if there’s a next time – which hopefully there won't be – taking my suit off would be more efficient.”

Another pause. Then Batman cleared his throat. “I’ll…keep that in mind,” he said in that low rumble of his. “You don’t need anything else?”

“No, not really, I think I—”

And of course, Clark’s stomach chose that moment to make a low growl. They both looked down at it, and then back up. Batman’s look was particularly pointed.

“Well,” said Clark, slightly sheepish, “now you mention it, I guess I could do with some—”

“Food.”

“If it’s not too much trouble.”

Batman nodded briskly. He was already gone before Clark could even so much as offer a polite thank you.

3) What fic of yours do you think is underrated? Since I write for rare pairs (outside of Clois) and mostly a show that has been over for a decade, I never really consider my fics 'underrated'. Hard to say.

8) Do you take inspiration from real life? If so how do you incorporate it into your fics? No, my life and interests rarely coincide with what I'm writing. I watch sports and understand most so I can write it in should characters be interested in that. Maybe one day when I write the fic wher Clark i secretly a stress baker lol Not that I am but the knowledge could finally be useful. XD

14) What is something you wrote in a fic that you are hoping readers picked up on but you don’t know if they did? And/or, what is something that you were excited that readers did pick up on? For current fics, I don't have anything but that may change if I ever get back to this Clois role reversal fic lol A long time ago, I started a WIP (that surprise, surprise, I never finished) about Oliver waking up in a world where Clark didn't exist/he was the only one who remembered him. In the story, his parents were alive and one reader made the no Veritas=no need for the Queens to die connection, and I remember being thrilled about it.

My Jopper Fic Ideas

I’ve had a decent amount of interest from others in the prospect of me writing Jopper fics, specifically ones where they kiss. For everyone's sake, including my own, I’m making a list of them all so that we can refer back to it.

All but number 6 I came up with on my own. If anyone has already written these, please let me know. I would love to read them.

Idea 1: “Sealed With A Kiss” (Status: thought) Love letters sent between Hopper and Joyce, starting in high school and ending when he’s in Vietnam and she tells him she’s going to marry Lonnie. Very long, multiple chapters. Fluff and obviously angst. I’m not a good enough writer yet for this idea so I think it would be better in someone else’s hands, especially someone who is a history nerd. Anyone who wants to write this, please go ahead. (No actual kissing.)

Idea 2: “Dearest Jim” (Status: WIP) After ST3, Joyce is devastated by the loss of Hopper. Her grief counselor tells her to write a letter to him to get everything off her chest so she can begin the healing process. Very emotional, just pure angst. Love confessions and holding out hope that he’s still alive. Written from Joyce’s first-person POV in my signature disjointed stream-of-consciousness style. A few days after I started this one, I saw that someone else already did something similar, but I think my version leans more into her being kind of a wreck, which I personally enjoy writing very much. (No kissing, obviously.)

Idea 3: First Kiss: argument (Status: concept) The day after Joyce flakes on Hopper to go to Scott Clarke’s house, she comes over to his cabin and they begin arguing, as seen in S3E3. Where my story diverges is that instead of her going outside, she stays inside and tells him that he’s being a jerk for not believing her. This leads to more arguing which eventually leads to a kiss. They both feel awkward about it for a second but then start making out like two animals in heat. I have two possible endings in mind. 1) they come to their senses, go check out the lab, never speak of it again, or 2) they have rough, angry, hate sex to get it out of their systems. Haven’t started writing this one yet but I have an outline of it in my head.

Idea 4: First Kiss - hurt/comfort smut (Status: WIP) Hopper wakes up on the couch in his cabin with no memory of how he got there, while Joyce has been taking care of him throughout the night, as seen in S3E4. Where my story diverges is that instead of leaving to go to see the mayor, he begrudgingly allows her to take care of him. There is of course a bit of bickering back and forth, but overall it’s rather sweet the way she starts kissing him and the kissing leads to more. Inspired by a scene from Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Possibly love confessions? Definitely bruise kink! This is my favorite of the Jopper ideas because it’s so cute and layered, it’s the most them.

Idea 5: First Kiss - angst (Status: WIP) Weeks after Murray and Joyce rescue Hopper from Kamchatka, he is slowly but surely getting his memory back after either being brainwashed or just put through absolute traumatizing hell. One day, he and Joyce are looking through their high school yearbook and it sparks something in him where he finally remembers her and their history together. With tears flooding her eyes, she kisses him tenderly, so grateful to have him there again, though still scared of how he’s changed and what the future holds. The most depressing of all the possible kisses. Written in Joyce’s first-person POV. I have two ideas about the beginning. 1) either it starts when they’re already looking at the yearbook and the rescue is mentioned very briefly or, 2) I go into detail about the rescue and how heartbreaking it was when Joyce found him and he didn’t recognize her. This is my second favorite of the Jopper ideas.

Idea 6: First Kiss - romance (Status: thought) An idea I recently got from anon that’s a combination of 4 and 5. After Joyce has rescued Hopper, they’re sharing a room at the American embassy, or even a hotel, while they wait for a flight back to the US in the morning. When he’s just gotten out of the shower, she sees his body, now slender, covered with bruises and scars. Both of them become emotional after mostly holding it together up until this point. LOVE CONFESSIONS! “God, I missed you so much!” “I can’t ever lose you again!” A kiss that starts off slow and gentle but becomes passionate and sexual the longer it goes on. Sweet, tender sex with a longing urgency. I would not be at all opposed to someone else using this idea and writing it instead of me.

Idea 7: "Share The Damn Bed” (Status: WIP) Hopper, Joyce, and Alexei all spent the night at Murray’s warehouse in between episodes 5 & 6. Sadly for the audience, there was no mention of sleeping arrangements. Obviously Alexei took the pull-out, but what about Joyce and Hopper? This would basically just be the Jopper version of what happened with Jancy in S2E6 and my take on the There Is Only One Bed trope. A smidge of arguing that leads to a kiss, the kiss then leads to sex. I could then either describe that sex or do a classy cutaway to the next morning when they’re eating breakfast.

PLEASE reblog, reply, or send me a message to tell me which one of these you like the most. Eventually, I would like to get to all of them, with the exception of 1, but it would help to know what people are most interested in so that I can work on those ones first.

the way I am ~lowkey~ super excited for this one. does this mean I get to give snippets and just ramble on abt it? perf, sounds good.

synopsis: au where people don’t age until they touch their soulmate. villain!bellamy has been king for 500+ years, purposely avoiding any chance of touching his soulmate so he can live forever. When witch!clarke tries to kill him for revenge, he reveals he now wants to die but is immortal after being alive for so long. He offers a deal - if she can figure out a way to kill him, she can do it herself. But then of course, he starts aging...

some random things:

fantasy! au, ENEMIES to lovers (like truly enemies)

bellamy never wanted to be king. he was a rebel leader who overthrew the old ruler and it was a horrible violent war where he lost everyone. he decides to stay in power so that never happens again, but ya know, die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain

Clarke comes from a long line of healers/witches. Bellamy has always been familiar with the Griffins. Bellamy might start calling Clarke little witch

“Darling, I’ll tell you what. If you can figure out a way to kill me, I’ll give you the dagger myself. I’ll hold your hand as you drive it through my heart. Good luck.”

“How has he been alive so long without finding his soulmate? I’ve never heard of someone so old,” an eight year old Clarke wonders aloud. “My dear,” her grandmother tuts. “You cannot have a soulmate without a soul. If the king ever had one, it blackened and shriveled long before our time.”

Maybe finding your soulmate isn’t about love. Maybe it’s the universe ensuring that something, someone exists that can still save you, even when you are doomed.

“Why do you want to die?” she asks him, one day. He hesitates, before responding. “I’m very tired.” “Was this not your choice? To avoid your soulmate?” “I did not...I did not know what it would do to me. That I would not have the option to escape. Maybe it was simply time that made me as I am, or maybe I am being punished for believing I ever had any control over it.”

His body was waking up to her very presence, like a flower blooming under the sun in a tundra, under the most improbable conditions.

“You may have cured my body, my blood, into something resembling a human, but make no mistake. There is no other part of me that can be saved. No part of me that deserves to be.”

Her eyes fill with tears as she realizes what he’s known for a long time. That he began aging the day she put a knife to his throat. A sob escapes her, something primal from deep inside her. Bellamy cups her cheek and in spite of everything, she leans into his touch. She sees how the small gesture brings tears to his eyes. “I’m so sorry little witch. You don’t deserve this. You deserve so much better.”

Bellamy walks closer to her and puts the dagger in her hand. It’s the same one she tried to use the night she met him. “It’s okay,” he assures her, voice impossibly gentle. “Finish it. Please.”

He's feeling a bit embarrassed and just wondering about the Kryptonian side of his biology when the space traveling bounty hunter who rides a space-hog descends from the sky to speak with him. Is Lobo hitting on him!? Cruise Calamity Capers - Batman x Superman. COMPLETE - Rated: Explicit Summary: When a new owner purchased The Daily Planet, Clark Kent is sent on a five-day cruise. It wouldn't be so bad if an Alpha hadn't been booked into the same cabin as him while he's nearing his heat. And not just any Alpha, but a well-known playboy. But Clark finds he's not as terrible as he thought. Unfortunately, there happen to be trouble afoot and more secrets than that of hiding an omega status.

Caught by Surprise - Batman x Superman. COMPLETE - Rated: Explicit Summary: Clark has been married for some years now. But his spouse doesn't know he's Superman and decides to punish him. Which makes things awkward at the Watchtower when it's just him and Batman's turn for Monitor duty. You’re My Destiny - Batman x Superman. Sequel to Loved You to the Last. WIP Rated: Summary: Clark Kent didn't have a soulmate, or at least he didn't think so, because he didn't have a soul mark. The humans of Earth were born with their soul marks. He hadn't been. None of his relationships lasted. Humans wanted their soulmates.Bruce Wayne was born without a soul mark. He thought it was because the Universe knew what would happen to his parents and so he didn't deserve one for not being able to save them. But then one day a mark appeared. Instead of being elated, he cursed the Universe for its bad joke. Loved You to the Last - Batman x Superman. COMPLETE - Rated: T Summary: Clark Kent loved Bruce Wayne. It was a Universal Truth. Except for as long as the Earth's Sun was Yellow, Clark could not die. But Bruce was never far from Clark's thoughts throughout the eons he lived until finally the sun turned Red. Take My Hand - Batman x Superman. COMPLETE - Rated: T Summary: Before the horrid evening in which Thomas and Martha Wayne lost their lives, their son Bruce was told of a decision his father had made which would change the course of part of his life. And so began his yearly summer vacation at a farm in Kansas. Brighter Than Gold - Batman x Superman. COMPLETE - Rated: T Summary: Even though they're now engaged, Bruce still has some reservations. Clark isn't too happy about this and asks some difficult questions. To Dream Again - Batman x Superman. Omegaverse. WIP - Rated: Explicit Summary: Lois has just dropped a bombshell on Clark after five years of marriage and the miracle that is their son, Jon. Unable to stand the thought of going to their apartment even during his week off of work, he visits Wayne Manor where Jon is being babysat by the Wayne family and his elder adopted siblings. A Sky Full of Stars - Omegaverse. WIP - Rated: Summary: The King of Krypton and his family find themselves in dire circumstances as one of their top Generals turns on them and orders an assassination. Only the King's brother may be able to help keep the young prince's safe by leaving the lands of Krypton for those outside the veil. Gotham, one of Earth's great kingdom's soon faces a tragedy of it's own and it's two young princes will have to learn how to deal with the nightmares the traumatic scene instilled in them. But can they let it go, or will the thirst for vengeance be all that keeps them going? Feel Again - Batman x Superman WIP - Rated: Summary: Superman is visited by his future self who asks him the impossible. Of course, he decides to go along with it, until he doesn't. His path takes a very different direction than that of his other self, or even what his other self had planned. Will he manage to befriend Batman, or just make things worse? Ultraman’s Dilemma - Owlman x Ultraman. WIP - Rated: Explicit Summary: Ultraman had no idea what was happening, until he did, and then he was filled with rage. Not that he could do anything about that rage. Of course Owlman had to take advantage of his weakness. And there was only one way Ultraman could think of to get back at the bastard. Mine Tonight - Batman x Superman. COMPLETE - Rated: Explicit Summary: Superman is tired of denying his feelings for Batman. It doesn't matter that they don't know each others identities. When he makes up his mind to confront Batman with his needs, he finds Batman has found some incriminating evidence. I’m in Love with an Angel - Batman x Superman. WIP - Summary: Clark can't believe that Bruce is being taken away from him. Again. However a chance is soon offered to him that will keep him in Bruce's life. Scrapbook 2021 | Part I

For anyone that’s new to this, this is how I keep track of all of the things I enjoy and/or create throughout the year. I have literally been doing this since I had a livejournal. I think the first one was 2011? Maybe? In which case, woohoo, ten years of scrapbooking!

It’s a nice little snippet of my life and helps to organize my brain.

they were all by KL_Morgan.

one is a 187k and counting wip (that is still being updated/not abandoned) that goes au from 1x03 (clarke and the dropship kids era, clarke loses the ability to speak after wandering and eating a poisonous berry and is found by lexa and co) and is rlly interesting, some great grounder worldbuilding and a (very) slowburn clexa called (my) Destruction Within Your Mouth.

the other two are from a series they wrote as well. an au where clarke sort of mind time travels to an alternate universe after going into the woods on her own in the s2 finale and wakes up as the current ice nation queen, klark and tries to fix her (everyone’s) mistakes with the mountain. it’s GREAT. costia is a DELIGHT. this lexa has anya and gustus and costia and is lighter bc of it and already in love with klark. WELLS IS ALIVE!! (in both, iirc, a SOLID narrative choice). the first is a 120k called The White Queen Running. and the follow up in the series follows klark from the ice nation’s pov, instead of our clarke, trapped in her body and kinda fleshes out what happens before and after the first fic and is abt 68k, called, The Red Queen Awake.

the series itself is listed as incomplete and (i think) the author isn’t planning on returning to it, but both fics end at a place that feels satisfying and finished. (i’d LOVE if they wanted to return and expand on it, but it doesn’t feel incomplete as is).

i also forgot to mention that i found their works by reading a DELIGHTFUL his dark materials/daemon fusion au one shot (a 4k called the tonic of wildness)

i highly recommend all 4!! i’m always on the hunt for clexa/the 100 fics that exist in the world and expand on the grounder worldbuilding. there are SO MANY modern aus and such throughout the fandom (not that that is bad, but it’s not always what i want) so to find some longer fics that do that was lovely.

Slimmed-down post/rules, but originally taken from @kedreeva.

It’s WIP Wednesday! This week's theme is "incredibly intentional and deliberate baby acquisition" (aka, "gIVE ME BABY"). With perhaps a slightly loose definition of "baby", hahaha.

( I had so, so many options that fit this theme to pick between, lol. )

Here’s how it works:

I will post the filenames of five WIPs, and will also post a snippet of new content from one of them to get the ball rolling.

Send me an ask with the name of one of the listed WIPs and I will write you a minimum of three sentences in that WIP in response!

The pod is empty, Clark can already see through the walls. But he can hear a familiar heartbeat, though it sounds a little . . . different, now.

It’s been so, so long since he’s heard it, but even if he didn’t have the eidetic memory, he never could’ve forgotten it. That's Conner's heartbeat.

His brother's heartbeat.

But it's different, too.

And the empty pod isn't the only thing he can see through the walls.

“What’s the damn alarm about?” Desmond says irritably, not looking up from his work. Dubbilex doesn’t respond; Guardian shakes his head.

“Security systems are reporting a breach, sir,” he says. “Multiple doors are broken, but no one’s been spotted on the cameras. And the readings say they all broke within . . . point five seconds of each other?”

Conner doesn’t say anything either. He just sits very, very still between them, his heartbeat thrumming with a quiet, restless anxiety.

“Then lock the place down already!” Desmond snaps as he picks up a thin metal instrument with a sharp tip. Conner's heartbeat picks up.

“That will not be necessary,” Dubbilex informs them both, bland and neutral. “Superman has already let himself in.”

“What?” Guardian says, sounding startled.

“What?!” Desmond demands.

Conner’s heartbeat stutters, and Clark can’t be anywhere but in that room.

So he is, before Conner’s stuttered heartbeat has even settled, and then he’s looking at Desmond and far too many needles and medical instruments and Guardian who’s half-turning and Dubbilex who’s already facing his way and a few scattered G-nomes and G-trolls in assorted places here and there around the room and . . . Conner.

But not Conner as Clark’s used to seeing him.

Was used to seeing him, anyway.

Desmond curses, and Guardian jerks in shock. Dubbilex looks unaffected.

And the child sitting on the exam table in the center of the room stares up at Clark the exact same way a teenager once did: like he’s seeing the moon and sun and everything he thinks he’s supposed to be for the first time. Like he’s seeing something he’s waited and wanted to be.

Hoped to be, maybe.

And Clark . . .

Clark handles it differently this time, just like he’s always wished he could've.

“Hello,” he says kindly as he steps forward and ignores everyone else in the room to drop down into a crouch in front of the exam table and smile at Conner, who keeps staring at him mutely. “It’s nice to meet you."

So I’ve just got three Olicity stories and they’re all Bratva!Oliver meh. It’s probably because in fanfiction I ship Felicity with literally anyone other than Oliver (sorry Olicity die-hards). It could be because after a hint of it was introduced, the Arrow-verse canon made it a central piece of the storytelling.
