i miss perú. especially the food from my dad's hometown, moyobamba. i want to eat the caldo de gallina from the restaurant by the tarapoto airport. i want to travel to the town an hour away from my grandparents' house to eat majás. i want to make juanes with my grandmother. i want to visit my aunts and uncles and eat around lima. i want to go to my mom's hometown, jauja, and eat cuy. i want to go to a random chicken chain restaurant (rocky's? roxy's? they're literally two different chains that are also the same). i want to eat at bembos where they put fries in the burgers. i'll even take going back to houston (where my mom's family is visiting now) and eat at a peruvian restaurant there. it's the first time Ever that i'm comfortable speaking spanish to all my relatives, none of that "i'm so young and they're so old" fear, none of that language insecurity. i want to go see my family :(

—> if angels can fall, demons can rise.
⤻ reader is a female, reader is a bunny-type angel(?), canon-typical cursing, very bad use of 1920s slang, heavily inspired by @jazjelspen 's angel baby fic, death, betrayal, mentions of racism, abuse of men against women and sexism, angst, spoilers for all of hazbin hotel season one, flashbacks
notes: a rather long one, and wrote another small verse for readers to sing. I wrote it while slowing down the melody in Emily and Charlie's parts.

You walked into the broadcasting room, your heels clacking against the clean floor as you looked about before acknowledging that someone was already there.
"Ah, are you my newest assistant?" The man seated there had the widest grin on his face as he sat there, legs slightly spread apart as you gulped, nodding your head so meekly. Ah, to be human again, when you were too scared to even raise your head. "Haha, that's wonderful, my dear. I was told you had quite the resume. Most impressive for a young lady." You nodded your head. "Very... very impressive indeed." He smiled at you.
"You are impressive too, sir." You quipped.
"Oh?" He tilted his head.
You blushed as he narrowed his eyes at you. "Both of us... we- we're not exactly what society deems as... correct."
"Is that why you're working here? You relate to me?" The creole man asked, leaning against his chair as he tapped a lanky finger on his desk.
"No." You shook your head, your wild hair shaking alongside you. "I admire you. I want to be like you. I imagine it must have been hard for to get to where you are now." You spilled your heart out to this man, because for years, you admired how someone that was meant to be pushed out of what society deemed 'right' managed to rise to the top, to become a striking star in the radio world. "So I'm here because I want to learn how to become a star, just like you."
His eyes widened as you faced him with that determined look on your face.
"What a bright young woman." He rose up from his seat, sauntering his way towards you as you stood there, waiting.
Alastor grabbed your hand, bowing down as he looked up at you, that sweet grin on his face. "Alastor, my dear, pleasure to meet you." He said, before sealing your fate with a kiss on your hand. "I hope that we can get along well." You gazed at him with wide eyes, your eyes raking over his bronzed skin and brown — almost red — hair. Glasses lined his gleaming eyes.
✧ Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ ✧
"Hey, bitch! I'm talking to you over here!" Adam's voice rang throughout your head as your head snapped up to meet the first man on Earth. You frowned.
You never liked Adam. He was stuck-up, and you had heard the stories of how badly he treated Lilith and Eve, it reminded you of your high-school friends who unfortunately fell into the hands of those abusive men they had to marry. Adam had the same air as them, just less... smart.
"You want me to show up to the trial?" You repeated.
"Yes!" Adam yelled.
"I don't mind. That demon princess annoys me a little. I don't understand why she's trying to redeem a murderer like him." You hissed. The fact that girl — who probably knew of his sadistic nature — associated with him, left a bad taste in your mouth. Though wrath was a sin, you felt resentment and wrath for Alastor, and envy for how he did not seem to regret any of his actions that led him to hell in the first place. Meanwhile, you had to deal with the nightmares that came with being killed. For the first years in Heaven, you woke up in cold sweat as you remembered the knife that went through your heart.
"Well then, babe," you disliked Adam, but a temporary truce would be fine. "Let's start heading there, shall we?"
You nodded and unflapped your wings.
✧ Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ ✧
You flew up to the seat beside Adam, eyes narrowed as you watched Alastor promenade in with the Princess of Hell and that girl you still had no idea about. The way he walked was still the same as it had been years ago.
You met eyes with Alastor, mustering all your courage to send a look of malice his way, as Sera announced the beginning of court.
"We are gathered here today to determine whether or not a soul in Hell can be redeemed to the Heavenly Realm by means of this Hazbin Hotel." Oh, you just knew Alastor named that Hotel, he always did have a sick sense of humour. You almost snorted at the name too, but refrained from doing so.
Adam nudged you. "Now." He practically hissed. Out of spite, you almost didn't stand up.
"Objection!" You said as you stared down at the Princess, then at Sera. "I apologise for interrupting you, your royal highness." You looked down at her, then up at Sera, who glared at Adam, instinctively knowing it was his idea to rope in the innocent you into his plans. "I understand that as a Winner, I typically have no say in how Heaven runs things." You summoned up all your might as you met Sera's eyes, utilising all that courage you had back as Alastor's assistant into your heavenly body. "But I must disagree on the type of people the Princess of Hell is trying to redeem." You pointed a finger at Alastor, his eyes widening in amusement as you accused him.
"This man, I knew him from when I was alive, my heavenly council." You looked at all the archangels and others that gathered around. "He was the man who killed me. A notorious serial murderer from when I was alive. More of his victims are no doubt here too, maybe some in hell. But what doesn't change the fact is that someone as dangerous as him," You pointed your finger at Alastor again, your face turning red as he simply tilted his head towards you, like a gentleman greeting a lady. The council gasped as they all whispered about, some glaring down at your murderer. For once, you felt like justice was being served for how abruptly your life had ended in Alastor's hands."Does not belong in Heaven after all the souls he has killed in his time in the living. No matter how much he repents, taking away another human's soul is an unforgivable crime!" You exclaimed.
The rest of the council agreed, as the Princess and the girl beside her looked about, frantic. Alastor simply smiled up at you, his little bunny.
"Order in the court." Sera said, attempting to calm everyone down after you riled them up with your voice.
"You've always been such a good public speaker, my little bunny." You saw red, he dared to call you that intimate nickname in front of the Heavenly Court? After you had revealed his crime to everyone to see?
It seems that Alastor's nerve had not died with him.
"Why is he even here?" You questioned Charlie, your fiery gaze never leaving the trio below you.
"I am the host of the hotel, my dear!" Alastor said, "I should be here to support my fellow colleagues in their endeavours. What kind of co-worker — let alone friend — would I be if I let them defend their case on their own?"
You were about to speak when you were interrupted by that Princess.
"In the Hazbin Hotel, we believe that everyone can be redeemed!" The Princess exclaimed despite the loud voices drowning her out. "Please, you have to listen!"
"You don't even have evidence that this Hotel can work. If you do, we'd be glad to see it!" Adam responded sarcastically, challenging Princess Morningstar.
"We have a patron that is showing incredible progress." She said.
"Who?"
"Don't tell me it's him." You glared at the Princess, daring her to confirm your doubts.
"Angel Dust!" What an odd name.
"Oh yeah! The porn demon, he's totally worth being redeemed." Adam blew a Raspberry at them. That was... immature. Still, your cheeks almost flamed scarlet as Adam gave you context for who and what this sinner the Princess referred to was.
"Well, if you know so much, what do you think it takes to get into heaven?" She pointed at Adam as your eyes widened. You had never thought about this before but... what did a person need to do to get into heaven? Did they need to be perfect? Because if so, you certainly belonged in Hell. Then, you remembered Alastor and your mood soured to think that you might have been in the same spot as him.
What was even more shocking was when Adam began to get flustered, flabbergasted by Charlie's question as Sera inquired as to whether Adam was okay. You watched even more shocked as Adam cursed at Sera and began to scribble nonsense onto a paper and sent it down to the girl. You caught a glimpse of the paper and your eyes widened.
"Are you fucking serious?" The ashen girl by the Princess' side asked, and honestly, that was your reaction too.
Adam snapped his fingers as Charlie challenged him, your eyes narrowing as an orb of light began to reflect, glowing bright before showcasing a bunch of sinners... partying? Was that how partying looked nowadays?
"Heavenly people, what more do you need to see? The pornstar chose a night of debauchery, that's not a soul worthy of being redeemed!" You side-eyed Adam. He had done way more debaucherous stuff than you cared to admit, and plus, if not partying was one of the factors for how you could get into heaven, the parties Alastor dragged you to would have caused you to plummet to Hell already.
"Are you telling me you never had a drink with friends after a hard day?" The Princess was right.
Thankfully, Sera was much more forgiving and less stupid than Adam, considering that she eventually allowed the Princess of Hell to continue. Still, you glared at Alastor, annoyed that you and Adam's ploy to get everyone so worked up over the serial killer in the room had not worked.
If the type of people the Princess of Hell, Charlotte Morningstar, wanted to redeem was a serial murderer, you would never accept the idea of redemption.
Alastor did not deserve such happiness.
You continued to watch, and the more you watched, the more you empathised with this Angel Dust... the more you felt inclined to care for him. You felt your heart — that you had assumed turned to stone for the sinners down in hell — slowly soften into clay for this sad man. Yet, despite how sad he clearly was, he was so strong. Stronger than anyone you had ever seen.
"See! He did everything on your list! He was selfless, he stopped Nifty from stealing and stuck it to that Moth man!" Charlie exclaimed, causing your eyebrows to furrow.
"Well, b- then why isn't he here then!" Adam sputtered out. "Hm?"
"Why isn't he here?" Emily and You said in unison.
"Wait, none of you know what gets someone into Heaven?"
The rest of the conversation was a blur to you as you struggled with the idea that you had no idea why you were in Heaven. If you had done one wrong thing... would that have condemned you to hell with Alastor?
You had not even comprehended the fact that they had started debating their ideas in song till Lute who was seated beside you, began to insult the sinner that all of you had been observing. Your eyes had solely been focused on Alastor the entire time, but theh quickly shot to Lute.
"What are we even talking about? Some crack whore who fucked up already! He blew his shot like the cocks in his mouth, this discussion is senseless and petty!" Lute sang, and you almost reached out for her, to not say such crude things in front of the Heavenly council and certainly to not insult a victim of abuse. Yet Lute and Adam flew away first and you frowned even deeper.
"Gotta say I can't wait to-"
"Adam." You turned to Sera.
"Come down and exterminate you!" Your eyes widened as you realised the severity of this situation. You now understood why this Princess was fighting so hard for this hotel.
Adam was killing the sinners.
He was no better than Alastor. No, even worse. Adam slaughtered an entire group of people without mercy. You felt bile rise up from your throat as they continued to sing, the tunes of their voice banging against your ears.
"Whoops!"
"Guess the cat's out of the bag!"
"What's the big deal?"
They didn't even see what was wrong with what they had said. You almost stumbled back thanks to shock and your absurdly long dress. Your entire world was sent into a frenzy as you felt so disgusted with yourself, for thinking that you could work with Adam, for siding with Sera and Adam — though briefly — for the idea of extermination. You felt yourself fall back, but someone was there to catch you.
Alastor's shadows manifested behind you, holding you close to his chest. "Be careful, Sweetheart." He said, helping you regain your balance as you felt too much anger with yourself to be angry at him.
"If Hell is forever, then Heaven must be a lie!"
"Emily-"
"If Angels can do whatever and remain in the sky! The rules are shades of grey, when you don't do as you say, when you make the wretched suffer just to kill them again!"
Their words resonated with you, and you found your heart thumping to the melody of the song.
"Don't look there." Alastor whispered as a red hand came up to your face, covering your eyes. "I don't like to see you stressed, my darling." The warmth of his hand felt like that time when he had surprised you on your birthday, covering your eyes before revealing the cake he had bought and the decorations he had put up for you.
Despite how he covered your ears, you could hear the court arguing amongst themselves.
That's when you heard it.
Sera's voice boomed throughout the entire court, facing the sinners with a verdict. "I'm sorry, but this court finds that there is no evidence souls in Hell can be redeemed."
"Oh fuck yes! I win, suck it, bitches!"
"You better save the date cunts, because we're coming to your hotel, first." That's when Alastor manifested in front of them, his shadows pushing Adam back, almost causing him to topple over.
"Not a very clever idea, chum, it's rude to curse at ladies." Alastor warned, the shadowy tentacles slithering about, ready to attack Adam.
"Ugh, son of a bitch!" Adam cursed as he grabbed out his guitar. "Or maybe, I can just kill you fuckers now." He took out his guitar-axe and in a flash of light, you flew towards them, shielding the trio from Adam's strikes with your wings. Adam flew back when his guitar-axe made contact with your angelic wings, enchanted by a spell that slammed Adam and Lute back, crashing into the wall.
"Just because you're a winner, does not give you the privilege to harm someone else!" You yelled, never having such a fit of rage in your life as you spread out your wings. You were a bunny; prey, never the predator. But as you spread out your Enchanted wings, you felt yourself grow angrier as you thought of how Adam — that sadistic motherfucker — no doubt killed multiple sinners. Sinners who were just like Angel Dust, misguided, but deserving of redemption.
"Are you seriously defending them right now, you crazy bitch?" Adam grunted as he glared at you.
"I'm defending the principle of it." You hissed.
Sera and Emily looked down at you. Sera, in particular, had a sour look on her face.
"You say that demons cannot be redeemed to Heaven, but why can Angels fall?" You questioned. "Lucifer himself, was once an angel, God's favourite angel!"
"If angels can fall, then why can't demons rise?" You looked towards the Heavenly council as you sang. "After this, will you really believe all their lies?" You questioned through song as Adam got up, knowing you had little time to convince the court. "The rules aren't black and white, who decides what's wrong and right? Can you say that this is justice when you kill them again?" You sang, pleading for the court to just look past their prejudices.
Just then, you heard a snap of Adam's fingers as a portal emerged from behind all of you. "No!" You yelled when you noticed how the portal was leading to a red fiery pit you assumed was hell, but before you could even protest, you had been pushed in by Lute, causing the rest of the four of you to stumble back down into hell.

Alright, you know what time it is: THEORY TIME!
In Hazbin Hotel, everyone’s name correlates to their character (such as Angeldust, Vox, Sir Pentious, etc). As a writer and reader, I firmly believe that names are important and can give us a deeper look into characters. Alastor, despite keeping his real name from life, is not an exception.
Tumblr media
In a series where names reflect their characters, I would bet that Alastor’s gives us a hint into who he was before he died. This, along multiple other reasons, leads me to believe that Alastor only targeted guilty or corrupt people in power.
Hear me out:
We don’t know much about Alastor’s past, as nothing has been confirmed in the show. So for now, let’s analyze the lore we’ve gotten from Vivziepop over the years and the context clues in the show. Let’s look at the hazbin wiki:
Tumblr media
Now, that “weird moral code” could be directed at anyone, but here’s my reasons for believing he went after corrupt people with power:
1. I’ve never seen the show, but I know that Dexter was about a vigilante serial killer that targeted criminals that haven’t been punished by the justice system due to corruption. So I would say, seeing Alastor is being compared to Dexter, Alastor likely went after the same type of people.
2. He grew up and lived in New Orleans, Louisiana in the early 1900’s as a mixed man. If you don’t know much about American history, just remember that this during a period of segregation and heavy discrimination against Black Americans, and Louisiana was one of the most racist states at the time. I’m not going to go through a whole history lesson right now, but note that lynchings reached their height by the late 1800’s to early 1900’s as a way to enforce white supremacy and intimidate minorities. Some cases, if not most, were not regarded as homicides by police and the overwhelming majority of lynching perpetrators never faced justice. Even if they were tried, all white juries ensured that they wouldn’t be convicted. Seems like a good target for a Creole serial killer, right?
3. In the series, so far, we’ve seen that Alastor’s closest connections are with female characters, such as Rosie, Mimzy, and Nifty. He’s also been described as a “momma’s boy” before, so it’s safe to say he has high respect for women. During the period of his life span, women had little rights. Sure, they gained the right to vote in 1920, but that was about it. It wasn’t even until a few years after Alastor died before women had the right to divorce their husbands, and were often stuck in abusive households. For this reason, I could see Alastor going after domestic abusers as well.
4. He probably killed bigots that attempted to tear down his radio show as well. I don’t really have much evidence for this claim, but note that Alastor was a famous radio star. He’s also Creole. While some Creole people were considered as “white-passing”, interracial marriage was prohibited in Louisiana during this period. Alastor very likely had to struggle to succeed, and there’s no doubt that certain people in power attempted to tear him down because of his heritage.
5. Let’s look at his life in hell now. Who has he been rumored to have targeted ? That’s right, powerful overlords. Even in hell, Alastor still went after people in power. Sure, this was arguably to gain power, but the point that he only went after corrupt powerful figures still stands. Anyone else we see him kill, such as the loan sharks or the angels, threatened him and the hotel first.
To conclude, there’s no saying what sent Alastor on his path as a serial killer. I personally favor the popular fan theory that his first kill that sent him on this path was his father, likely after his father harmed/killed his mother, but anyone’s theory is as valid as that one at the moment. I suppose we’ll have to wait and see.
It could just be the social justice warrior in me saying, “Oh yeah, Alastor TOTALLY killed corrupt cops and domestic abusers”. However, I do believe that my theory on Alastor’s moral code is true based on my observations.

☆ Redesign Time/Have Tea With Me: The Black Characters of Hazbin Hotel, The Radio Demon ☆
Note: Okay I kinda feel like a cheat because it isn't a whole redesign, it's just two sketchy headshots. Sorry it's not a full design. Sorry also it isn't my Stolitz Rewrite... but I have 10 followers now!! I know that's not alot but hey, it means people actually WANT to read these blogs and see my art. I'll take it!!)
Ahoy Matey's!! So there has been two controversies going on withing the Hazbin Hotel fandom. 1 has been long term while the other is semi recent.
Have tea with me while we talk about it 🫖🍵:
1. The black/people of color don't have any features of their race.
2. Alastor's voodoo symbols.
I will not be talking about Alastor's voodoo. I am a white boy and I am not educated enough to talk about Voodoo. What I'm here to talk about is that none of the poc look like poc. Let's play another game. What is the race of these characters:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Have your guess? Their black. Sera is black, Velvette is black, and Alastor is Creole. All are black and or mixed and none of them have any ethnic features. All of them are gray. (I'm just saying it's sad when me, a white boy that has 2c/3a hair, has curlier hair then people with textured hair.)
(Also, Alastor, who is not a good guy but is the good guy team, is light gray. Velvette, who is on the villains side, is dark gray. I'm not accusing Viv of being racist but I find it weird.)
The problem is so easy to fix. GIVE THEM ETHNIC FEATURES!! ITS SO EASY!! No one's expecting you to draw every individual braid or dreadlock but oh my god!! Give them textured hair! Or I don't know, NOT ASHY GRAY SKIN!! BLACK PEOPLE ARE BEAUTIFUL VIV!! YOU CAN MAKE THEM BROWN ITS OKAY I SWEAR!! Sorry that got aggressive. Look, I just said that I am not a poc but there's no way they don't have black people on the SpindleHorse team. Hell, you can just ask people on Twitter or the black people you know!! Seriously, it's not hard to learn to draw ethnic features! It's really fun actually! I had so much fun drawing the second hairstyle!! Speaking if which!! (Drum noises)
Tumblr media
Drawing these hairstyles were so fun yall. Andddddd, you get a sneak peak at what my Alastor redesign might look like! If you can tell what I'm going for then you get a cookie. Dude the second hairstyles was so fun. Like honestly. I do think I can do the first hairstyle, (I think I know the nameof this hairstyle but I don't want to be wrong.), better but thats for me to practice on my own time. Seriously I had so much fun drawing these. Hell I didn't even line them. Those are sketches with colors. These aren't final designs or anything, I still need to adjust colors and get his outfit planned out but I think I know where I'm going with this!!
The hairstyles I used:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's just really sad seeing how SpindleHorse treats its poc characters. Textured hair can come in so many different types and hairstyles, you just wasting them making have straight hair with choppy waves. (Side note: Does anyone else like get excited when they draw new things? Like I was happy drawing Al's hair. I got excited learning how to draw my curls. I tried learning how to draw a hijab. It's really fun actually!! I highly suggest to challenge yourself drawing other types of hair types, races, religions, clothing. Seriously it helps your art and representation is important.)
There were other examples I couldn't list but I don't want this to be long. I want to get back to my Stolitz post but I HAD to draw Alastor with textured hair. Seriously Viv, he's Creole, at least make him look like it if your not even going to try and make him look like what he's described.
I have about 60% of the Stolitz post done! I encourage you to draw something new and to commit mass amounts of tax fraud!! Goodbye Matey's!!

I’m the anon here. I’ve heard the stuff ceerosa mentions before about “learning rules is not helpful” but I’m sorry, I think this is a “not all brains work the same” thing, because while I’ve seen that be true for others it’s never been the case for me in language learning. And I’ve done immersion programs. Learning what the patterns are, like how articles change based on case in German or based on several different things including end of the word in Haitian Creole (seriously it’s so unintuitive) is how it stuck. Just having stuff thrown at me doesn’t help. I’m autistic, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a factor; the other people I know who’ve told me they’re similar are autistic. Autistic brains process enough stuff differently I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a factor.
But yeah, just to be clear: I’ve seen and read that research. It doesn’t change that it’s not actually true for me.
And the particular way Duolingo throws stuff at you doesn’t seem to work well for anyone, in my anecdotal experience
--
Well... I think we were talking about slightly different things.
Some students have a desire for there to be reasons for language to work how it does, and they mean reasons that make logical sense today, not just "It evolved from this other historical thing". If there's a word that's an exception, they want there to be a reason for that too that isn't "Sometimes there are exceptions, particularly among very common words. Here's a list."
And from that perspective, yeah, we need to curb that impulse because it's not helpful for how languages actually work.
But yes, the pure immersion, no explanation stuff you get with some programs is not that useful, and the research supports this. It's an idea based on a shallow understanding of how small children learn their first language rather than studying how adults acquire foreign ones.
I did a couple of famous summer language intensives, and the way they typically worked was that there was a bunch of memorization homework for the kinds of things that native speakers just say without thinking about it (e.g. "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Christmas" for Americans—there is no why, and there is no innovation, just this set phrase). We then did conversation drills, some free practice coming up with novel sentences, and listened to natural examples in most of the day's classes...
But we had one class that was in English where they laid out the grammar patterns and such very clearly. If we'd been higher level, maybe they would have explained in the target language, but we weren't, so to get us ahead faster, this part was all in English.
Brains do vary, but I'm not sure they vary that much when it comes to these parts of language learning. Some people despise practicing speaking, for example, but they'll still improve more if they're forced to do these tasks they hate than if they do ~for text study~. Another learner who hates the task less might progress faster, but they're not a categorically different type of learner.
A bigger factor is that the really hard part with language study is staying excited about it and sticking with it, so if you enjoy one style of explanation or practice more, having more of it will make you actually stick around, and I'm sure that does vary a lot by learner.

Miraculous Ladybug Persona AU because why not!
Marinette
Associated Arcana: Fool (cuz duh), Justice (her main arcana when it's not fool), Magician? (she's good at arts and crafts, I guess)
Initial Persona: Joan of Arc (hands down, her persona, no argument)
Adrien
Associated Arcana: Emperor? (like reversed Emperor where he has no control over his life), Empress? (like reversed empress where he stopped enjoying life kind of and also cuz he's girl coded), Moon (me on my "Adrien's true self is himself and Chat Noir" bs), Magician? (he's good at stuff???)
Initial Persona: Petit Prince (apparently Adrien's story is based on this one)
Alya
Associated Arcana: High Pristess (cuz High Pristess is all about listening to your inner voice and Alya's biggest character moments are listening to her conscious and acting on that), Justice (the whole reason she's a journalist)
Initial Persona: Josephine Baker (I kinda struggled with this one cuz Google dosen't make it easy to research Martinique and I didn't want to do something lame like "Renard the fox lol". I typed up "black woman spy" into Google [because Alya's other story is being Marinette's best friend which is lame] and Josephine was the first French result I got. She was the first black woman movie star and she also spied on the Axis powers for France during WW2. France also gave her the title "Creole Goddess" which scares me)
Chloe
Associated Arcana: Devil (this is what Astruc would give her lol. It also fits cuz Devil is giving in to your vices and Chloe can't stop doing that), Lovers (cuz it'sabout making a choice between two options and aticking with that and Chloe does that both times she's the big bad of the episode), Empress (cuz Chloe is rich and enjoys her life I guess)
Initial Persona: Marie Antoinette (cuz I am 99% Chloe is based on her and it kinda for a meta perspective on Chloes story where she is the scape goat for even worse villains)
Nino
Associated Arcana: Emperor (he's the leader of the resistance i guess), Heriophant? (he gives good advice like 3 times in the series?) , Chariot (the lame answer: he shares character traits with Chie and Ryuji)
Initial Persona: Alexandre Dumas (I was drawing blanks again cuz Nino's only story [outside of being Adrien's best friend] is the resistance stuff so I looked up black people in the French revolution and this the guy I got. Fun fact, he's the father of the guy who wrote three musketeers apparently, I was really not expecting that)
Luka
Associated Arcana: Heriophant (fits it better than Nino), High Pristress (I still think Alya fits this arcana but Luka is rolling in this cards symbolisim with listening to people's inner music and having the miraculous of Intuition)
Initial Persona: Orpheus (cuz Im lame. Marinette is his Eurydice cuz she left him)
Kagami
Associated Arcana: I have no freaking clue this time Magician?????
Initial Persona: Tomoe (cuz Im lame and it's her mom's name)
Lila
Associated Arcana: Moon (cuz what the heck else would she even have? Jester???)
Initial Persona: Coco Chanel (because eff that nazi spy. And it futhers the duality thing that Alya and Lila used to have before they retconed Lila)
Felix
Associated Arcana: Justice (he's a crazy justice boy you cant convince me otherwise)
Initial Persona: Loki (WHAT ELSE AM I SUPPOSED TO CHOOSE)

1. Which kink do you think Louis would have that would surprise Lestat?
2. Do you think this fandoms racism has become more obvious due to Louis being a black creole person? Like I feel like people are more aggressive when they say Louis is top because he’s “rough” and Lestat is this dainty pillow broad.
1) i think it would take a lot to surprise lestat sexually [my dude a #BigOleFreak] but the one thing thatd somewhat unnerve him at first is lou breeding kink.. lestat has a very hobbled relationship w being the architect of creation meanwhile louis is like begging to be bred and plugged up so the baby can take. lestat would come around to it & meanly tease lou about it tho :3 if anything i feel like lestat is the one w/ hyperspecific kinks that unnerve louis and take him more time to get used to [we talmbout virginal catholic pimp who despite selling sex and being the voyeur to numerous sexual encounters, his only actual sexual experiences were handjobs & secretly getting head from younger guys prior to les… les got freudian relations & semi normal (nicki) relations, hes been w / men and women before, hes a real freak. i think lestat is a bratty vers whos dom top ways r activated in the presence of louis omega pillow princess pheromones lol]
2) when ppl hear an accusation of a ‘racism’, their only thoughts is some caricature of a confederate/nazi/klan member screaming that they dont want ‘woke’ [if not using the racial slur w/o the euphemism] vampires. when in reality, racism manifested in fan spaces which are predominately composed of white women / white lgbt w/ #blm stickers or bio posts, who have black friends, maybe have even dated or fucked somebody black, manifests as the beliefs they have internalized bc of cultural messaging around black people. their inability to recognize & analyze evident traits in black charas, the inability to relate to the ‘other’, shoving characters who r not such at all into these narrow stereotypes of the mandingo archetype, the stoic black brute, etc. etc. so when they hear us say ‘fandom racism’, they seem to think we’re calling them klan members & personally insulting them. diverting an observation on trends & cultural messaging to personal feelings, so a bystander can go omg how could u do that :( like i said, idrk or care for low bar discourse or throwing shit on ppl but i do think its funny to see ppl make les a dainty delicate waif off 1 hate sex scene that we dont even rly see all the way c. the other scenes we see lol. so they project onto les cuz hes more relatable to them simply cuz theyre both white? my friend who never even watched just knows of it cuz im aggy af mind u made a profound comment i find applicable w les in both book& show verse
‘[its] the contrast between a public show of subversive bi male femininity versus a domestic/private bi male masculinity—that truly applies to a lot of white gays…putting on the performance of gender non conformity but not actually being equitable in your domestic behaviors and simply reifying gendered violence’
nb ppl r more readily able to apply/recognize gnc ~traits~ in pale skin that may or may not be there. i compare les to david bowie & prince bc those men were gnc in performance but very typical to the role of ‘Man’ in their interpersonal& real lives.
& idt louis is that too gnc in his appearance neither, he still favors suits in his heyday yet in dubai has this androgynous unsettling plain black wardrobe. very cold cutting feminine eartha kitt grace jones type appearance/role he plays in this second interview v. the boyish swagger of a typical 1970s black man he puts on in divisadero in sanfran. but he subverts gendered racial stereotypes moreso in his dynamic w nb partners as black men r expected to be overpowering & domineering. where louis holds up gendered racial stereotypes/dynamics as a black man imo is w/ claudia & miss lily, 2 black women, emotionally and physically extracting from the bw in his life and making claudia make the decisions he cant bring himself to do. sorry if this got a lil off topic lol

Honestly not every person of a race needs to sound a certain way I know like two black ladies who sound white as hell I was surprised when I seen one of them in person it's rare but it happens just like some white people sound black also rare sorry if it sounds rude text is a bitch when it comes to tone sometimes
I think it suits Alastor I know you don't blame Bosco but yeah I say just keep his ass white because that's what he comes across as 😂 but honestly that cat doesn't look black either he just sounds it if he's black make him a brown or black cat to make it obvious and idk why but Mordecai is it? He gives me Asian vibes but I highly doubt he is IF they're supposed to be of any race let me know if you know
It’s okay, you don’t sound rude. Here are my thoughts. For me personally, I give Viv more flack when it comes to designing her characters (in this case her POC characters) because despite these characters being demons, her style is very humanoid, meaning she clearly has the power to change the hair style and make it look more like the race of the person. This would be a different story if her demon characters were like…blobs or big monster types but most of them (especially the main cast) aren’t, and we end up having Alastor’s Karen haircut, and Velvet’s standard boring hair, when it’s easy as hell to give them different styles, it wouldn’t change a thing. It’s different with Lackadaisy because……they are cats after all, you can’t make animals a race, which is why people use the term “black coded” instead, for characters that can’t be a race. I revert back to what I said before, why not give Alastor a POC voice actor? Even if he does come across as white, his character clearly isn’t, and it really isn’t that hard to get a POC person and perform an accent, so we can get a sense of where he’s from and what heritage…..again….representation is important.
And yeah, you’re right, not every person of a race needs to sound a certain way but like….if Viv went out of her way to establish that Alastor has the voice of an old 1920’s radio, WHILE also saying he’s mixed French creole and from New Orleans in the 20’s, I’d expect him to have more flair than just a Caucasian voice with an Atlantic accent. But again, that is just me.

48 - Female - Mother of 1 Human Kidlet & 2 Feline Goddesses - Work Full Time - Published Short Stories
I am a female writer on the Gulf Coast of the United States, currently residing in the state of Mississippi near the amazing city of New Orleans. I have lived in both Louisiana and Mississippi and the culture of the bayou areas runs through my blood. I have one adult son, who is the light of my life, and a cat who thinks she is the goddess of it. The stories that are currently being published to Tumbler are the continuation of roleplays and solo writing that I have been writing for over 20 years; and that I decided to continue sharing with everyone. Some characters have intricate and elaborate backstories which I will unfold for you. Some are new and you will learn about as they reveal themselves to me. I hope you all enjoy.
Some call me a free spirit, I call me...me. It took me years to become comfortable in who I am, so I judge no one else. We all have our own journeys. I am here to support everyone else on theirs, so maybe they won't have to take as long to be able to love themselves. I prefer not to talk much about my disabilities because I don't want them to define me, but am also open about them when asked or to help others come to terms with their own.
I love purple and sparkles, and I'll probably die petting something I shouldn't. Being as I live on the Gulf Coast, I might also be eaten by it, and that is fine. Life is a circle and we're all part of it.
Feel free to visit my inbox and ask box. I promise I do not bite unless asked.

THE ANDROMEDA EFFECT
@the-andromeda-effect - In Greek Mythology Andromeda was sacrificed by her parents to save their kingdom from Poseidon's wrath after her mother offended him, but Perseus saves her from death by a Krackon and takes her to his kingdom to be his Queen. Mircea (Meer-cha) Kalavati wasn't sacrificing his wife to appease a god, or bring peace to his clan, he was doing it to start a war with another. His mistake when he hired Caliban Andros was lying to him about why he wanted her rescued, then killed to look like those who had kidnapped her had done it. Never lie to your hitman. Now, like Perseus to Andromeda, Caliban has rescued Riona Kalavati and something is drawing him to the woman. He will kill to keep her safe, and her husband is going to regret that lie for what remaining life he has left. Now as Adira Andros, she is definitely Caliban's Queen, and his "army" has rallied around her.
BATTLEGROUND OF DREAMS
@battlegroundofdreams - Morpheus & Melinoe are Dream Assassins, sent into the minds of sleeping human dreamers to take out Nightmares who can kill the dreamers. They have been trained and are the best at what they do. Put together as unwilling partners, they must learn to work together to keep one another alive. As they try to navigate a tentative partnership, they also take on the responsibility of becoming mentors to Lorien and Rua, a pair of recently graduated Dream Assassins who were almost killed by one of the most powerful Nightmares that any of them have ever faced. If the pairs cannot learn to work together, it could lead to disaster for them all. They will all learn more about themselves, and each other. Once lone wolves, they will become a pack, and one that Nightmares will come to fear. However, a Dream Assassin turned Nightmare from Morpheus' past will come and threaten them all, and test his will and loyalty. His decisions will either save Melinoe's life, or damn all four of them.
BAYOU WITCHES
@bayouwitches (Heaven & Arthur Shelby belong to @call-sign-shark)
BEHIND THESE MASKS
@behindthesemasks - Melania LaVeau is a professor at LSU in Baton Rouge. She is also the grandaughter of Ambrose Meyers, one of the most powerful men in the country and the daughter of Marie LaVeau...yes THAT Marie LaVeau! Old money, going back to when the Gautier family came over from France to settle in New Orelans, there isn't much that goes on in Louisiana or Mississippi that they don't have their hands in. Meyers Worldwide, a tech conglomerate is a cover for underworld activities that will eventually come to light. What happens when someone decides to cross the most powerful, and immortal, Queen of Voodo and threaten one of her children? Will New Orleans be left standing? If you are a fan of Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider, or The LIbrarians, the story is in the same veign. All of the characters are human, but there are supernatural occurrences around them
BENDING THE LAW
@bendingthelaws - Colin Masterson is the Cook Count State's Attorney. He has been on a mission to take down the head of a Chicago crime conglomerate that is headed by Constantin Rakeovich. Now someone has kidnapped his intern and is sending her back to him in tiny pieces. Is it Constantin? Is it another one of the people that Colin has crossed? Now he and those he trusts are going to have to figure it out before someone else disappears or is hurt. Complicating matters is that his brother, Colton Masterson is Constantin's defense attorney. The brothers have never been close, but in this situation, things take a much darker turn. Will Colton stand by his brother or his client? And what happens when something bigger happens and puts everyone Colin cares about in the crosshairs? If you are a fan of Law & Order, or any of those types of shows, this is much in the same vein and will involve more than just the lawyers. All characters are human. There is no supernatural beings or magic. Some places are going to be fictional, but the main setting is the city of Chicago.
DEVIL IN THE DETAILS
@devil-in-the-details-ay - When Lucifer's daughter Yara gets bored and wants to intern for the Lord of Death, Astaroth, her father agrees. After their first meeting, the Devil changes the plans once more. Deciding to make Yara someone else's problem, she is now to be Astaroth's wife. Navigating this challenge, and those who will come against them both will reveal a lot about each other, and themselves. Is the Princess really as spoiled and entitled as she seems? Is Astaroth really the iceberg incarnate that he seems? Is she even who she believes herself to be? And what happens when someone decides to try to interfere in their relationship?
MAGICAL MISTAKES
@magical-mistakes-vm - Vollrath, the Master Warlock of the local Coven, encounters Mahala (Mah-HAY-lah) preparing to do a ritual on his land. Her mistakes in not being careful in preparations allowed him to find her, but it also set up events in the future that they will need the help of his best friends Baldur and Elmar to deal with. A witch that has no clue what she is and a Master Warlock who is not used to letting people close have to navigate revelations that will change both their lives, and possibly even the Coven. When his brother, Balor, an equally powerful warlock within the Coven who he has been at odds with for years, also shows up and it is clear will be needed, it just adds one more complexity to the situation. Can they all get along to keep each other safe, or will one of them fall to those who are coming against them?
MYSTS OF TIME
@mystsoftime
NIGHTMARE MAGIC
(MAGICAL MISTAKES X BATTLEGROUND OF DREAMS)
@nightmare-magic
PRINCESS OF THIEVES
@princess-of-thieves-id - Princess Inara is set to marry Prince Diyan the next day, a man she has never met or even set eyes on. Ever defiant, that is the last thing she is going to do. Deciding to thwart her father's plans, the Princess slips out of the castle and sets to escape. Little does she know that the Prince's family sent Arik, the Prince's best friend and a trained assassin, to watch over her, fearing more that she would be murdered by enemies rather than escape. One thing that Arik knows is that Diyan doesn't want to marry Inara either, so instead of stopping her, he helps her with a promise to keep her safe if she stays with him. They make it to the next town, which is a port and aboard a vessel that is just preparing to depart in an effort to stay one step ahead of the soldiers now searching for Inara. Unbeknownst them, they have just become stow-aways on a pirate ship. Complicating things further is that Arik and the Captain of the ship are not strangers, and when a romance develops between Inara and Arik and the Captain deciding he would like her for his own, things become even more complicated. Not to mention all three of them are being hunted by multiple kingdoms. Nothing like a quiet day on the sea, right?
SEHNSUCHT RISING
@sehnsuchtrising
Tapperhet
@tapperhet-em - When Princess Meeri's father is deposed by his brother, he believes she was part of the coup, and disowns her as his family flees the country. Lucky for her, she is found by one of the knights she befriended in childhood and is still loyal to her, Einar, before her uncle did. A members of nobility, he and three of his friends spirit her off into hiding where they can plan to figure out who set her up, help her rebuild a life apart from royalty, and decide how to bring about justice. Can the seeming unrequited love of Einar for Meeri turn into more? Or will one of his brothers in arms, cut him off from that possibility? And how close was/is the traitor to Meeri? Sometimes safe isn't as safe as you think...and destiny, it's more than just a lofty ideal. She is a bitch sometimes, and she will find you.

Well they shocked 😅
Tumblr media
Wasn't surprised when people actually found out that Velvette is supposed to be a black woman I mean look at her. The quote tweets are not happy and its mostly poc so Viv you are not looking too good now... again Velvette is not even black coded at all I could not believe you at 1st glance that she is a black woman hah let alone 30 years old according to her leaked info because all of Viv's characters look like teenagers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like Velvette didn't even have to be... whatever "black" apparently skin tone she has (she's ashey af and its blatant erasure actually what they were trying with her skin tone) like I said black coded characters exist. Honey swamp is my all time favourite character and was a good example mentioned in the original tweet. Black coded not only in her design (her hair is everything) but also where she's from New Goreleans which is obviously a play on New Orleans. Could've had a voice actor to fit her but oh well but one gets the picture. Like the excuse of "of but she's a demon" 💀 Monster high gave us many poc coded characters that had all the colours of skin tones (not even mentioning the actual black characters like Clawdeen she was a werewolf but clearly black) but we knew they were poc because they were designed to be poc, the designers had that in mind and I do not see it in Velvette's design heck nore Alastor he was a white dude in his early design. Viv just looks like she slapped on him being creole because of the vodou and W-word debacle.
Tumblr media
Whoo I fear hazbin coming out because this is shakey waters to be on before a show drops.
Small edit: the w word is in reference to a native American creature, the "wendy", hope the just of it comes across what I'm referring to. I won't type the full name out of respect.

To say that you weren’t nervous would be an understatement. All over town, you’d heard about the infamous Maxie Fields. He owned the Blue Shade nightclub, which you and your sister Sadie had frequented long before you decided to take your business to King Creole. From the whispers around New Orleans, Maxie was a man that you didn’t want to cross. You didn’t want to be on his bad side because if you were, you’d pray that you die from natural causes. You didn’t believe that he was that bad, especially since Danny knew about him. However, since Danny was with you, you wanted to protect him to the best of your abilities—especially from Maxie Fields. The walk over to the Blue Shade seemed as if it took forever, the beating of your heart pumping in your ears, keeping your anxiety at its peak. “You okay, kitten?” Danny had started calling you pet names since you both had decided to go steady. You nodded, snuggling closer to him as the doors to the nightclub opened.
The nightclub was live since it was Friday night. Smoke filled the air, and the music was playing as the live band performed tunes that had people on the floor dancing. You wish that you could have danced with Danny tonight, but the mood that Danny was in wasn’t in the mood to have a good time. Shark led the both of you towards the hallway that led to some stairs. Danny’s hands squeezed yours as if he was giving you some silent affirmation that you would be safe with him. You weren’t worried about not being safe at all; you were more worried that Danny wasn’t safe. Danny’s sister, Mimi, had told you that Danny was being bothered by Maxie to work for him at the club. From what she was saying, Maxie wasn’t happy about Charlie taking his business from his clubs, and so he wanted Danny to come to sing for him. Mimi reassured you that Danny had told Maxie and his goons that he wasn’t interested in singing for him. He was fine where he was—singing for Charlie at King Creole. Shark knocked on the door at the end of the hallway, turning to shout through the door that he had found Danny. “Let him in.” A slightly squeaky voice echoed from the other side of the door.
As Shark pushed the door open, your hands gripped Danny’s arm tighter. “I see you got a lady, Danny.” Maxie chuckled, looking you over with a look of hunger. You could have vomited on the spot; not used to being oogle over, especially not by an older man. “What is it that you want, Maxie?” He pushed you behind him, nodding his head for you to sit down on the couch. You hesitantly sat down, your eyes not leaving Danny standing in front of the desk where Maxie was sitting. Even from behind Danny’s standing silhouette, the man known as Maxie was intimidating to you. However, no amount of intimidation would change that if Maxie tried anything with Danny, you wouldn’t be as quiet as you are now. “You already know what I want, Danny. I didn’t expect you to forget so soon.” Maxie stood up, walking around his desk as he took one more look over in your direction. Your body shrunk inward, feeling uncomfortable with the attention that he was giving you. Danny moved in front of you, blocking his view. You silently thanked Danny as he continued talking to Maxie about the business at hand.
“And I’ve already told you that I wouldn’t work for you, Maxie. I’ve got my own place at King Creole. Charlie takes care of me, and that’s where I’m gon’ stay.” Danny flared his nostrils at the older man, backing towards you little by little. Maxie chuckled, walking over to his alcohol table as he poured himself a glass of whiskey. “See, that’s where you’re wrong, sport. I always get what I want, and I don’t care how I get it. You remember your father, don’t ya’?” He took a sip out of his glass, his eyes boring into Danny’s blue eyes. Your eyes widened as you sat up on the couch, looking around Danny at the older man. He couldn’t be the one who was behind his father being attacked, could he? It was at that moment that you realized that Danny, indeed, was not safe as long as Maxie didn’t get what he wanted. You knew that you had to do something, but you weren’t sure what to do. Maxie Fields was a force to be reckoned with—especially in New Orleans. Danny seemed to be frozen in his spot, glaring at the man with malice in his eyes. “It was you, wasn’t it? You had Shark, and your other goons jump my daddy.” He shook with anger to the point that you had to stand up from the couch, wrapping your hands around his arm.
At the feeling of your touch, he relaxed a bit, but you could still feel the anger radiating off of his body. “You listen to me, Maxie. I ain’t workin’ for you. I don’t care what you do to me, but you leave my family out of this.” He turned to walk out of his office, stopping at Maxie speaking up again. “Well, remember that I always get what I want, Danny. You’ll be back here soon, and it’ll be permanent. You and that lovely lady of yours. I’ll see you soon, sweetheart.” He smirked, his eyes glinting with pleasure, sending a cold shiver down your spine. Danny glared at Maxie again, squeezing your hand tightly as he stomped out of the office and out of the Blue Shade.
As the week picked up, you couldn’t stop thinking about how Maxie could have been the one behind Mister Fisher’s attack. Sadie could tell that you weren’t in your right mind because she was talking about her upcoming date with Gary, but you weren’t even helping her figure out her outfit. “What has you thinkin’ so hard, Y/N?” She sat beside you, taking your hand in hers. “You’ve ever heard of a Maxie Fields?” You looked over at her, your face paling at the sound of his name leaving your lips. Sadie nodded her head, confirming that everyone in New Orleans knew of him. “He’s the fella that owns a couple of clubs in the French Quarter. Why? Did you meet with him?” She asked, getting a sinking feeling in her stomach as she could see that something was truly bothering you. You weren’t sure how you would explain the situation because you didn’t want Sadie to get involved, but you wanted to help Danny the best way you knew. “Yes, Danny and I met with him last Friday. He is a bad, bad man, Sadie. I think that he was the reason that Mister Fisher was in the hospital!” Your voice shook as you explained the situation to her. Her eyes widened, remembering how you had come home late that night, explaining that Danny’s father was attacked on the street.
“What are you going to do?” Sadie asked, looking into your eyes as she knew that was the only way that she was going to get inside of your head. You stood up and walked into the kitchen, grabbing the black box that your father had left you and Sadie before he died. Inside that box was a .380 pistol. “I’m going to protect Danny, even if I have to die myself.” You whispered as you admired the gun that lay in your hands. Later on that night, you moved the black box from the kitchen before putting it under your bed. You had a sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach that it was not the last meeting that you would have with Maxie Fields.
***
Friday came once again as you and Sadie walked briskly along the French Quarter toward King Creole. Gary was meeting the both of you there, but all you could think about was Danny. You hadn’t heard from him all week, but you knew that he was dealing with his own problems, according to his sister, Mimi. Mimi invited you to their house the following night, so you were excited anyway. As you neared King Creole, you could feel someone was watching you. You turned your head, catching a man watching you from across the street. You grabbed Sadie by the arm, quickly tugging her inside the club. “What’s wrong, Y/N?” She asked, her face showing a look of concern. “Someone was watching me, Sadie. I have to find Danny and tell him.” You said as you looked around the club, hoping that you would see either Charlie or Mimi. They were sitting at their usual spot, so you ran over to their table. “Charlie, Mimi!” You scooted into the chair that was available at their table. “Is Danny here?” You asked, looking around the club, hoping the mysterious man was not watching you. You were on edge as the crowd began to clap, and Danny walked on stage. Seeing him for the first time in a week had made you forget that you were being followed, pushing that thought to the back of your mind. He looked handsome as ever, dressed in a suit with a black and white scarf that sat perfectly around his neck.
I'll go on loving you
Don't ask me why
Don't know what else to do
Don't ask me why
How sad my heart would be
If you should go
Though you're not good for me
I want you so
You could tell that Danny was feeling the same as you; his eyes were void of any emotion. You turned towards Mimi, who sadly shook her head at you. “He’s been out of it since he returned last Friday. He hasn’t even left his room except to come here.” She sighed, grabbing your hand as she rubbed your knuckles. “That’s why I’m hoping after this performance; you could talk to him.” She was practically begging you to help Danny. You didn’t need her to tell you again as you nodded your head, turning back to look at Danny as he continued to croon.
It's not the kind
Of love I dream about
But it's the kind
That I can't live without
You're all I'm longing for
Don't say goodbye
I need you more and more
Don't ask me why
I need you more and more
Don't ask me why
Danny finished the song before taking a deep breath. “I want to let you all know that this is my last night performing here. I want to thank each and every one of you for being kind to me, and I will never forget the atmosphere that I’ve experienced here. Thank you.” His eyes met yours, and you noticed that they weren’t shining as they always had been when he was on the stage. He turned and walked off of the stage, leaving the crowd and you wondering why.
As the crowd returned to normal once the next act came on stage, you, Charlie, and Mimi raced back toward his dressing room. Charlie pushed the door open first, allowing you and Mimi to stand by the door. “Nice show tonight, kid. What was that about?” He asked Danny, looking back at you and Mimi before turning to face him again. Danny turned around while packing his belongings, sighing as he caught sight of you and his sister. “Ya know, Charlie? We never got around to signing those papers you promised me.” He shook his head and turned around again, stuffing his belongings in his bag. “I can’t tear up a handshake, Charlie. I’m going to sing at Maxie’s club.” He grumbled. Mimi let go of your hand, stomping up to him. “You go ahead, Danny. You’re no better than those hoodlums out there on the street. Daddy would be so disappointed.” She turned around, sobbing into the door frame. You, on the other hand, stood there in shock at the words that he was saying. “What do you mean, Danny? That man is no good.” You walked over to him, taking him by the hand. “Kitten, you don’t think I know that? But the man has me trapped. He’s right; he will always get what he wants because he owns half of goddamn Louisiana!” He yelled, snatching away from you as he grabbed his bag and stomped out of the room.
You were not going to allow Maxie to sink his claws into Danny. You stomped out after Danny, walking over to where Sadie was with her boyfriend, Gary. Sadie stood up, grabbing you by the hand as she looked concerned. “What did Danny mean when he said that he wasn’t performing here anymore?” You couldn’t even begin to explain the situation to her, so instead, you just told her, ‘it’s a long story.’ You told her that you had to go take care of some business and that you would be back at the house later on. You were going to meet with Maxie on your own and force him to let Danny continue to sing at King Creole. With your hands balled up, you left the club, walking over to the Blue Shade. A car pulled up beside you, revealing the same man that was watching you earlier. “Maxie would like to see you.” He shot his head over to the empty seat beside him. You knew that you weren’t ever supposed to get in the car with strangers, but you were so angry that you didn’t care how you got to Maxie. You crawled into his car, your hands still balled into your lap as he pulled off towards the Blue Shade nightclub.
Once the man arrived at the nightclub, you didn’t even wait for him to park as you got out, walking quickly inside the club. You remembered exactly where his office was, falling the stairs up to the hallway. You knocked on his office door, waiting for him to allow you to enter. Once he said ‘enter’, you pushed the door open before stomping inside. You took a deep breath, closing his office door behind you. Inside the room, Maxie was talking to that Shark fella from earlier, his words dying on his tongue as he realized that it was you standing in his office. He chuckled, his eyes returning to the same look of pleasure that he had previously. “Get lost, Shark.” He shooed the man out of the room. Once Shark had left, you sat down on the couch—eyes not once leaving Maxie’s. “If I had known you were looking for me, baby, I would have asked for you earlier.” He stood up, walked over to his alcohol table again, pouring two glasses of whiskey. He walked over to where you were sitting, sitting next to you. “So what can I do for you, Y/N?” He handed the glass of whiskey to you.
Your hands shakingly took the glass from him, taking a sip of the liquid before placing the glass on the table. “I want you to leave Danny alone. He is happy singing at King Creole without you interfering in his life.” You took a deep breath, scooting away from him. Maxie stayed quiet for a while, but you could see the gears in his head turning as he thought about what he would say next. His next move shocked you as he laughed, slamming his glass on the table, whiskey spilling over the rim. “You got a lot of balls for a woman, baby. I like that. How about you leave Danny and become my woman?” He leaned over to you, taking your glass of whiskey before downing it. The feeling of dread grew over you as you scooted further away from him. In the back of your mind, you knew that you shouldn’t have gotten into that man’s car, you shouldn’t have thought about coming to this club, and you should have never gone with Danny to meet Maxie. “You’re crazy, Maxie Fields. I won’t be caught dead with a slimy no-good rat like you.” You gritted out, teeth clenched as you stood up to walk towards his table.
Maxie didn’t like that response, standing up as he grabbed you by the arms. You gasped, struggling against him as he pressed his chapped lips against yours. Your eyes widened, trying to pull out of his grasp before your knee lifted up, pushing up against his crotch. He groaned out in pain, doubling over as he tried to catch his breath. You grabbed the bottle of whiskey, smashing the bottle over his head—knocking him down. “You stay away from Danny, you hear me?” You wiped your mouth off, spitting down near him as you ran out of his office and out of the club.
***
As you walked back home, you could feel as if someone was following you. You didn’t want them to know where you and Sadie had lived, so you decided to go to the Fisher residence. You raced to their door, knocking loudly, hoping that someone could hear you. Mimi opened the door, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, shocked to see you at this time of night. “Y/N? What are you doing here?” She asked, opening the door, letting you in. Mister Fisher was sitting at the table, smiling as he saw that it was you coming inside. “Y/N! It’s good to see you again.” He stood up, pulling you in a hug. “It’s great to see you again, Mister Fisher. Is Danny here?” You asked, looking around the apartment at any sign of Danny. Mister Fisher shook his head, sitting back down at the table with a look of sadness. “We are waiting for him to come home. I have something to talk to him about.” He frowned, standing up as he left the room. Mimi came over to you, pulling you into a hug as she could feel something was off with you.
The front door opened shortly afterward, revealing a still-upset Danny. He was taken aback by seeing you in his living room with his sister. “Kitten, what are you doing here? Does Sadie know that you’re here?” He asked, walking over to you before pulling you into a hug. You sighed, wrapping your arms around his waist, nodding your head. “She knows; I told her I would be back late.” You pulled away from him, looking at both of them. “I have something to say. Danny, you need to sit down.” You said, pulling him to the dining room table. Danny was confused, and so was Mimi, but they both sat down as they waited for you to speak. “I went to talk to Maxie Fields..” You started, looking away from Danny as you could see the look of anger flash over his face. At that moment, Mister Fisher came back from his room, looking concerned at the fact that you had met with Maxie Fields. “He-..I went to talk with him to see if he would quit bothering you. He-…made a pass at me and kissed me. I hit him and ran.” You didn’t realize that you were sobbing at this point until Mimi stood up, pulling you into a hug. Danny still didn’t say a word, but his face said it all.
“I’m gonna kill him..” He stood up, turning around as he noticed his father standing there with a look of guilt. “I know that it was Maxie Fields that set the robbery up, son. I know that you had nothin’ to do with it, but please do not get involved with that man.” He begged his son, taking him by the arms. Danny pulled away from him, eyes full of sadness as he pulled his father into a hug. “Pop, he won’t leave us alone unless I take matters into my own hands.” He pulled away from him before walking over to you. Mimi stepped away from you, walking over to their father, leaving the room for the two of you. You sobbed, burying your face into his chest. Danny was going to kill him. Maxie Fields would die before he knew it. “You’re alright, kitten. I won’t let him hurt ‘ya anymore.” Danny was trying to convince himself more than convince you. He felt like a failure—he couldn’t even protect his father, and now he wasn’t there to protect you.
Danny took you home shortly afterward, not wanting to leave your side. He knew what Maxie was capable of, and he wasn’t afraid to say that he was a little weary of him. He had to protect you, and he would see to it that Maxie Fields wouldn’t be around to bother you and his family again.
Not long after the incident with Maxie at the Blue Shade, you didn’t step foot into King Creole. There was no point in going; Danny wasn’t singing there for the time being as he was still battling with performing at Maxie’s club. However, the only good thing that came out of the situation was that you were able to spend more time with Danny and his family. You spent more time at their apartment in between the times that you would go off to work and at home with Sadie. Sadie was moving out shortly to live with Gary as their relationship had gotten serious. So, you were going to be in your apartment all alone, which scared you to your core. One night, you had decided to go over to Danny’s apartment for dinner. Mister Fisher had personally asked for you to come over one of these days to try Mimi’s famous crawfish bisque. As everyone sat around the dinner table, you noticed that Danny was deep in his thoughts. “Danny?” You grabbed his hand, snapping him back into reality. “Hm? Oh, I’m alright, kitten.” He smiled, but his bright smile didn’t reach the blue eyes that you adored so much.
You nodded, not letting the situation go unchecked as you continued eating. After everyone was done eating, you had to beg Mimi to allow you to wash the dishes practically. As you stood at the sink, Danny entered the kitchen, wrapping his arms around your waist. “I’m glad that you’re getting along with my family, kitten.” He pressed butterfly kisses along your shoulder, resting his head against your neck. You gripped the sink, placing the washcloth down beside clean dishes that were stacked on the counter. “Danny, are you still considering singing for Maxie?” You turned around in his arms, wrapping your arms around his shoulders. “I don’t know, kitten. Why’d’ya ask?” Danny already knew the answer to his question, but he didn’t want to push the issue further. “I-…I just don’t want you to do something that you would regret, baby.” You were surely scared that Maxie didn’t just want Danny to sing for him. “I’m not going to sing for him, kitten. I just can’t continue singing at King Creole, knowing that I would bring damage to the club because of Maxie.” He whispered as he captured your lips in a passionate kiss. As the two of you kissed, you wouldn’t forget that Maxie was still bothering all of you. You couldn’t forget that Maxie Fields was still running the French Quarter, New Orleans, and all of Louisiana with his dirty dealings.
Apparently, Maxie didn’t forget what you had done to him as well. Oh, Maxie would never forget the feisty hellcat that you were. He made it his mission that he would make you his and would make Danny his cash cow, whether the both of you liked it or not. Maxie had his goons on the lookout for you, even going as far as to find out where you lived. His goons were never too far behind you as you walked the town with Danny, pretending that you were safe. You would never be safe until you agreed to his proposition. It wasn’t long before Maxie had to put his plan into motion, but before he did, he called Shark back into his office. “Shark, bring Danny and Y/N to my place. I will reason with them one more time before forcing them to see things my way.” He smirked, looking at Shark with a wicked grin on his chubby face. Maxie was the type always to get what he wanted, even going as far as to commit violence–making him the most feared man in all of Louisiana. When Danny brought you to see him, he had never seen such a beautiful woman in his life–that was for sure. There were women who had thrown themselves at Maxie more times than he’d like sometimes. He would be lying if he said that he didn’t indulge in sexual escapades with them, but then you came along.
He knew that you didn’t like him all that much. He knew that you were Danny’s girl, but he didn’t care about that. Danny would see that he didn’t need you, that Maxie needed you. You were different than the other women. He only wanted them to wine and bed, but with you, he wanted to buy you the finer things in life. Things that Danny couldn’t and wouldn’t be able to do. You were all he thought about, and he wanted you to know that he wouldn’t lie still while you walked around town with another man. You belonged to him; you were his girl.
***
Shark had found the both of you once again. You were becoming tired of this man interrupting your moments with Danny. This time, you spoke up. “What do you want, Shark?” He was shocked that you had this fire in you, chuckling darkly as he crossed his arms. “Boss needs to see the both of you. Save the fire for later, doll.” He smirked, throwing his head towards the car that you had gotten into once before. The man’s dark eyes hid behind his hat, snarling as he watched you. Danny took you by the hand, leading you into the car. The car sped off, soon passing by the Blue Shade nightclub. Your hands started sweating as you realized that you were going to an unknown destination, turning your head to look at Danny. “Where are you takin’ us?” He spoke, his grip tightening around your hand. He wasn’t squeezing your hand out of anger; you knew that. He was trying to reassure you that he would keep you safe. If only you could believe him. Once the car pulled into the driveway of a beautiful home, you realized that Maxie didn’t live in Blue Shade. Shark’s voice picked up, asking the two of you to get out of the car. He pointed to the door at the top of the stairs, smirking at you.
“Boss is expecting you.” He turned, walking away from the both of you before disappearing behind the shades. Danny looked at you again, pressing a chaste kiss to your forehead. “You trust me, baby?” You were taken aback by his question, having never been asked by him about trust. You trusted him with all of your beings, more than you’d ever. You nodded your head, squeezing his hand with the same might–assuring that you would always trust him. “I trust you.” You followed him inside Maxie’s house, hiding behind Danny as you both faced the man who tormented you long enough. “Danny! Y/N! Come sit down.” Maxie grinned, sitting in front of the both of you with a glass of whiskey in his hand. Your stomach fell to the floor, seeing him eye you with a look of lust. “So, I wanted you both here to reconsider your position on our arrangements?” You couldn’t believe that he was still asking Danny to work for him, but mostly that he would still be stuck in his crazed head about you leaving Danny to be with him.
“What other arrangement do we have besides me workin’ for ‘ya?” Danny asked, looking back at Maxie with hatred in his eyes. “Well, I want Y/N. I’ve always wanted her since you brought her to me. I’m sure she told you about what happened the other night? Look at what she did to me.” He chuckled, pointing to the gauze that covered the cut from the whiskey jug that you smashed against his head. You stood proudly, looking at Danny with a smirk. “I should have killed you.” Danny looked at you with a small grin, proud that you could protect yourself while he wasn’t with you. “You must be insane if you think that I am letting you take my girl from me. She is mine; you can get your own.” He pulled you closer to him, sitting you down on the couch. Maxie shook his head, standing up from the loveseat that he was sitting on before walking calmly towards the liquor cabinet. “I thought you would say that, which is why I’m giving the both of ‘ya’s one more chance to reconsider.” You glared at him, rolling your eyes at how dense he was being. “How stupid can you be, Maxie Fields? I’m not leavin’ Danny, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
Maxie laughed, turning around looking at the both of you as if he was already planning something. “I’m sure Sadie and Mister Fisher would love to have dinner with me to discuss my terms.” Your blood ran cold, not thinking that he had done his research on not only you but your older sister. “You leave Sadie alone, you bastard!” You cried out. Danny walked over to Maxie, grabbing him by the collar. “I will kill you if you go ‘round my pa again!” Maxie took a deep breath, grabbing the whiskey jar—noticing that Danny was too far gone to notice. “Get yer hands offa me!” He smashed the jar over Danny’s head, knocking him to the floor. You screamed out, rushing over to Danny. “Danny!” Maxie grabbed you, pushing you back against the couch. “You belong to me; you understand that? You’re my girl!” He tried to push his lips against yours, but you fought him off. Your strength had nothing against Maxie as he pinned you down on the couch, his slimy lips pressing against your jawline. You screamed, pushing against his chest as his weight lifted off of you. Danny pulled him off of you, punching him in the face before grabbing the nearest chair.
He slung the chair at Maxie, knocking him out cold. “Y/N! Run!” He told you as he backed away from him, grabbing you by the hand as he raced out of the house. “We have to go, Danny! We have to find Sadie and your Pa!” He nodded his head as the both of you ran back towards your apartment. Sadie should have been there, as she was still packing to move in with Gary. As you reached your apartment, you opened the door seeing Sadie and Gary were standing in her room, packing the rest of her things. “Y/N! Are you okay? Where have you been?” She asked, coming up to you, grabbing you by the shoulders. “You and Gary have to grab the things that you can take and leave! Gary, take her somewhere safe! Maxie Fields knows about you!” You spat out, pushing Sadie back into her room as you grabbed a couple of things out of your room, throwing them into a bag before kissing Sadie on the forehead. “I love you, and I’ll see you soon, okay?” You cried out as you watched Gary usher Sadie out of the apartment.
***
You ran as fast as possible to Danny’s apartment, pushing the front door open. Mister Fisher and Mimi were standing in the living room, smiling as they saw you come in. “Is Danny here?” You asked, looking at both of them. They shook their heads, suddenly becoming concerned at the tone of your voice. “Where?” At that moment, Danny came rushing in, holding his arm. He was bleeding, but not from his head, where Maxie hit him with the whiskey jar. “Danny! What happened?” He collapsed on the floor, looking at you. “I ran into Shark and that other fella from earlier. Shark cut me.” He spoke softly, completely out of it as he was losing blood. His father panicked, running into the bathroom to grab the first aid kit. “Why didn’t you come with me?” You sobbed out, pulling his head into your lap as he stared up at you, his blue eyes seemingly losing their color. “Danny! Stay with me, baby!” You rubbed his cheek as he closed his eyes, becoming unconscious. Danny’s father returned with the kit by then, and you began to doctor him up. “Mimi, can we borrow Charlie’s car? We have to hide out for a while. You two should go to Charlie’s until we get rid of Maxie.” You begged her.
Charlie helped you load Danny into the car, promising you that he would watch over Mimi and Mister Fisher. “Thank you, Charlie. We will be back soon.” You spoke as you waved at the three of them as you pulled off, driving to the outskirts of New Orleans. You drove for hours until you reached a White House that your father owned on the bayou. You parked Charlie’s car, pulled Danny out of the house, pulling him into the house. You laid him down on the couch before going outside to grab your belongings and his. You could only pray that you and Danny would be safe until Maxie was long gone. You dig into your bag, pulling out the .380 pistol that you hid under your bed earlier, putting it on your hip before tucking your shirt back into your shorts. You sat on the dock, looking out at the buoy that danced along the water, waiting for Danny to awaken. Not long afterward, Danny came out of the house, walking over towards the dock. “Danny? Are you okay?”
Danny was so glad to see you, sitting down next to you on the dock as he pulled you into his arms. “Better now that you are here.” He whispered, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “Where are we?” He asked, his eyes moving to where you were looking at. You sat up, looking back at him as you pulled him up with you. “This is the summer house that Sadie and I used to visit with our father when he was alive. He used to come out to the dock, catching crawfish for us to eat. I haven’t been here for years since he died.” You whispered as you turned towards him, as he wrapped his arms around you. You weren’t sure if Maxie had already figured out where you both were, but you were ready in case he showed up. “I figured that it was time for us to keep our promise, Danny. Maxie has to die. He will continue to bother us unless we do something about it.” You kissed his cheek as he looked into your e/c eyes. “I’m with you all of the way, kitten. I’m with you, all of the way.”
You wrapped your arms around his neck, pressing your lips firmly to his. He groaned, laying you back down on the dock floor, running his hands down your sides. At that moment, you felt like the world had stopped, and it was just you and Danny. You pulled away from him, running your fingers up his lips, locking eyes with his blue ones. After all this time, you still could fall in love with him through his blue eyes. The sound of tires skirting across the pavement pulled the both of you apart as your eyes locked with Danny’s for the last time. “It’s now or never, baby.” You stood up, showing him the .380 pistol that you were hiding on your person. “Where did you get that from, kitten?” He asked, scared that you were going to hurt yourself. You didn’t have the time to answer him as you noticed none other than Maxie Fields stomping across the boardwalk that led to your house. He had a lot of nerve to walk in as if he owned the place. He held a gun in his hands, being followed by another man that Danny had told you about; they called him Dummy. You thought that nickname for him was quite odd, but Danny assured you that he was fine with it. Maxie walked towards the both of you, pulling the trigger of his gun. You pushed Danny out of the way, the both of you falling back on the dock. “He has done it now.”
You hopped up from the dock, pulling the trigger of your own weapon, hitting him in the shoulder. Maxie hollered in pain, pulling the trigger of his gun–nearly hitting you in the arm, but you ducked. Dummy ran up behind Maxie, fighting with him over the gun as you looked back at Danny, who was coming up the dock stairs. He ran over to where Dummy and Maxie were struggling over the gun, hitting Maxie in the gut. He doubled over, dropping the gun before Danny grabbed it from him. He cocked the safety again, holding it against his head. “You’ve been causing trouble ever since I met you, Fields. It’s not enough that you harmed my family, but you’d go as far as to harm my girl. You die tonight.” He growled, pulling the trigger. The gun jammed, causing Maxie to laugh. He pushed Danny back, brandishing a knife before swinging it at him. You gasped, running over to them–pushing Danny away before pulling the trigger one last time. The bullet flew out of the chamber, hitting Maxie between the eyes. Maxie fell off of the boardwalk into the water, his body floating along the bayou.
You gasped, not believing that you had ended someone’s life–let alone Maxie Fields. Danny came up behind you, grabbed the .380 from you, throwing it in the bayou where Maxie was floating. You pulled Danny into your arms, sobbing at the thought of finally being free from Maxie. Dummy smiled at the both of you, running off as he didn’t want to be involved once the cops decided to show. You pressed your lips to him, pulling Danny away from where Maxie was–pulling him back down towards the dock. “I am so glad that he is finally gone. He was making your life hell.” You grumbled, throwing your head to the side as Danny pressed butterfly kisses to your neck. It had been a while since you had sexual intercourse with Danny, but you would be lying if you didn’t admit that his kissing at your neck turned you on. You pushed your sweater off of your shoulders, unbuttoning his shirt before pulling it off of his body. You ran your fingers across the cut bandaged on his arm, pressing a light kiss over it.
His mouth found yours once again, pushing his tongue past your lips as you gasped at the contact. Your fingers moved up his shoulders, pulling him closer to your body as his hands wrapped around your body, unzipping your dress. You stepped away from him, shimmying out of your dress, standing only in your underwear in front of him. “You’re so beautiful, kitten. I am so lucky to have you.” He slid down to his knees, running his fingers across your body before wrapping his lip around one of your nipples. You gasped, throwing your head back as your fingers ran through his raven-colored locks, tugging at the strands. He moaned, sending shivers down your spine. “Daaaaannnny.” You couldn’t believe that you held off so long on feeling Danny’s touch. He pulled you down on the dock floor, tugging your panties down quickly. Your eyes watched his every move, whimpers passing through your lips. Danny smirked, knowing that he had you right where he wanted you. His fingers moved down your body as his tongue ran across your nipples, sliding two of his fingers inside of you. You gasped, arching your back off of the dock floor, tugging at his hair harder. He moved his mouth down your body, nipping and biting at your skin before pulling your legs over his shoulders, tongue lapping at your pussy.
His tongue licked a stripe up your pussy, before running in a circular motion around your throbbing bud. “Ah fuck!” You screamed, covering your mouth at the sound of profanity across your lips. You couldn’t believe that he was making you feel so good with his tongue as he only did it once, back at King Creole. He chuckled, his fingers pumping into you faster as his tongue continued lapping up the juices that poured out of you like a faucet. He pulled away only for a moment, looking up at you through his eyelashes. “You dirty girl, you like that?” His mouth went back to wrap around your bud, sucking harder as the coil in your stomach tightened. “I-...Danny, I’m gonna cum!” You screeched, your orgasm crashing over you in waves. Danny lapped up everything that you gave him, before pulling away from you. He smirked at your fucked out state before undoing his slacks. He pulled them off along with his briefs, jerking himself slightly as he looked you over again. “Are you ready, kitten? Are you ready for me?”
You nodded your head, getting comfortable as he slid down between your legs. He wrapped your legs around his waist, aligning himself with your entrance. You didn’t notice you were holding your breath until he slid inside of you slowly. Your mouth opened, releasing a whine as you started to breathe again. He grunted, his palms holding himself up over you as he pushed into you–bottoming out. Your arms wrapped around his body, nails digging into his back as he started thrusting slowly into you. As his thrust started to speed up, all of the stress that you had felt over the past week drifted away. You no longer had to worry about your sister, Danny, or his family being hurt. You no longer had to worry about Maxie forcing himself upon you. You allowed yourself to let the stress go as Danny whispered dirty things in your ear as he fucked into you. “Yes baby, I’m your dirty girl.” You moaned out as he wrapped his hand around your throat.
His lips captured yours again, tongues and teeth clattering together as he pounded his hips into you at a rapid speed. Skin slapping together, his sweat pooling on his forehead as he moaned against your lips. “Fuck, you drive me crazy.” He moaned, moving his hand that was around your neck down to your clit—rubbing your clit in a circular motion as his eyes locked into yours. His eyes were begging for you to let yourself go, give into him. That’s exactly what you decided to do, wrapping your legs tighter around his waist. The coil in your stomach returned, tightening with each thrust that he made. “Danny, I can’t -…” You moaned out, throwing your head back as your orgasm crashed over you once again. He chased his own, fucking you through yours before releasing inside of you. “Oh fuck, that was so hot.” He moaned, pulling out of you slowly before laying beside you. He pulled you into his arms, pressing a passionate kiss to your lips. You were truly happy where things were going.
***
It was Friday night once again, but you had plans. Sadie and Gary picked you up from the Fisher residence, the three of you heading towards King Creole. Danny was back performing permanently at King Creole as Charlie was delighted to take him back. You walked into the club, finding your seat next to Mimi and Charlie. His father wasn’t for Danny singing at King Creole, but you had managed to persuade him to make an appearance tonight as Danny really hoped that he would. “I’m so excited to see what song Danny will be singing tonight. He hasn’t told me anything, and said it would be a surprise.” The lights lowered as Danny walked out on stage, his eyes finding yours. He smiled, his blue eyes lighting up as he took in your appearance. He started strumming his guitar as the band started to play behind him.
Let the stars fade and fall
And I won't care at all
As long as I have you
Every kiss brings a thrill
And I know that it will
As long as I have you
Let's think of the future
Forget the past
You're not my first love
But you're my last
Take the love that I bring
Then I'll have everything
As long as I have you
Tears glistened in your eyes as you watched him sing his heart out, feeling confident that this was where he needed to be. You knew that King Creole was his second home and that the atmosphere could beat any promises that Maxie Fields could have given him. Danny was born to sing on stage and he knew it as well. You only hoped that you would be around to witness it. As you watched him in his element, you could sense something good was coming. Out of the corner of your eye, you noticed that his father walked inside of the club. Danny’s eyes moved from you to the doorway of the club, smiling as his father stood there, supporting his son with his dreams. You grabbed Mimi, pointing over to where her father stood with a grin on his face. Mimi looked back at you with tears in her eyes, mouthing that she couldn’t believe it. Your persuasion had worked as you watched the moment between father and son. Danny could feel the emotions in the room as he watched his father. Your eyes moved back to Danny as he continued to sing.
Let's think of the future
Forget the past
You're not my first love
But you're my last
Take the love that I bring
Then I'll have everything
As long as I have you
As long, as long as I have you
You were surely glad that Danny had everything that he could ever want. You were proud of him and proud of yourself that you stood by his side. After the show, you raced back to the back where Danny was talking to his father and his sister. You ran into his arms, hugging him tightly before pressing a sweet kiss to his lips. “I’m so proud of you, Danny. I love you.” You were truly happy at how things were going, but you were more happier that you had Danny by your side. Charlie came up to the four of you, wrapping his arms around Mimi as Danny turned away from you to pull his father into a hug. “I sure am proud of you, son. I was a fool to not allow you to follow your dreams because of my fears.” You stood behind Danny, watching the father-son moment before walking over to the two of them, pulling them both into a hug. After the emotional moment between Danny and his family, Danny turned to you seemingly knowing that it was you who would persuade his father to come to the club. “You did this, didn’t you, kitten?” He asked, wrapping his arms around your waist. “Of course baby, after all, I’m your hard headed woman. I won’t stop until I give you everything your heart desires.”

Kinda spitballing a hypothesis here based off of an I once saw somewhere in the conlanging corner of the internet (I think it was on an episode of Conlangery talking about extremely regular philosophical languages? @gacorley might remember), but I've got an idea about lexical structure, because it seems to me like there's two opposing trends in Language when it comes to semantic fields.
On the one hand, from the perspective of acquisition and to some extent production it's nice to have words that are derivationally related to each other, both because it makes it possible to 'work out' the meaning of the word even in the absence of actual real-world context and because new words can easily be coined to fill lacunae in vocabulary. 'My father is a weaver; What does he do for a living? He weaves' kinda stuff.
But on the other hand, from the perspective of perception you don't really want words that sound similar to each other, particularly in the same semantic field, because when you're talking about those topics, well, if everything sounds similar (especially in a noisy environment where you might not be able to hear entirely clearly) then you're going to start to get confused very quickly. 'Judges judge what judgements are just' sort of thing (see also 'oligosynthesis'), as well as of course 'Acronym and Abbreviation Overload' type phenomena (after all, there's only 26 possible syllables in an acronym...).
I think the fact that languages will vary between favouring one over the other does likely have impacts on learnability. The effect is not going to be major in comparison to other things, but there's unlikely to be nothing there.
For instance, obviously for a speaker of a language that makes a lot of use of derivation (Russian, say), English must be made harder to learn by the number of separate roots needed (like we have entirely different roots for the meat of domestic animals for pity's sake!).
But at the same time, for me, a native speaker of English, part of the irritation of learning Russian is that nobody is there teaching you the derivational morphology that enables you to make a guess at the approximate meaning of расследование from identifying the root (след 'trail') and building up from there (verbaliser -ова-, prepositional prefix рас- and adjectivaliser/abstract nominaliser -ние; the end result means 'investigation'), nor am I really that used to making use of that because in English you so often can't.
I'll note that this is kind of similar to a proposal made in Trudgill's Sociolinguistic Typology (2011), where he points out that small sound systems like Hawai'ian can be found in isolated languages precisely because all the words start to sound the same and context (i.e. shared background information between participants, more available in smaller societies) is more necessary to disambiguate what's being said. I think what I'm proposing is kinda orthogonal to this, because both extremes are kinda difficult, and there's several kinds of factor which can influence a language's tendency in either direction (English for instance has its several layers of historically more prestigious foreign vocabulary from having spent time as the language of an underclass, while 'pidgin-adjacent' creoles are of course forced to 'make do' with limited lexical resources they have, thus giving rise to stuff like Tok Pisin gras bilong fes 'beard'), but perhaps that's something for me to write about somewhere else.

BEWARE THE BAT CHARACTER DROP: KILLER CROC
Tumblr media
(art by @philchoart)
voice claim: Nico from Lackadaisy
Tumblr media
alright usually for Beware the bat I type out a pretty standard origin. If the origin is spoiler ridden I leave it blank. this time is different. Waylon Jones was born in Houma Louisiana, with a deformity that made him look more like a cross between a crocodile and a human, it also made him gigantic, almost 8 feet tall, and with muscle to match as well as a reptilian-like snout and tail. he fled to the swamp to live. locals knew him as a cryptid "the crocodile man of the bayou". one faithful day he encountered and fought Bane who was hunting a man for Salvatore Maroni. the 2 were evenly matched but Waylon won by clawing out the venom tubes of bane. he hitched a ride on a fishing vessel and arrived in Gotham where he found work for Carmine Falcone. while there he learned how to box which greatly improved his already fierce combat skills. In short; Killer croc in Beware the Bat is a Creole boxer who was a cryptid, and later became the monster in Gotham's sewers and a hitman for Carmine Falcone(who gave him a fully paid penthouse so even better)
Waylon along with joker and Scarecrow are easily my favorite characters in Beware the bat

I know it's the cinephile in me but I have a huge fascination with Elvis's film career.
A short summary is that he wanted to be a serious actor in dramatic roles, and while he did get chances to show off his serious acting chops, he eventually just ended up in cheesy, formulaic musicals which just got worse and worse because his demon of a manager cared more about making money off of the movie soundtracks which lead to Elvis become bitter and depressed about how his film career had turned out. Eventually though he did the 68 Comeback Special on TV and was on top of the world again, but that's a story for another day (or you could research it yourself).
To give another summary about his film career each decade, there were the four pre-army films in the 50s, wildly considered to be his best films, and my favorite of his movies came out that decade (King Creole) so I'd say I agree. Although they were musicals they had still had more of a serious feel than the musicals that would come later, andElvis's characters in these were rebellious, sort of edgy characters (especially in Jailhouse Rock and King Creole).
His post-army films in the 60s were where things changed, with him going from playing rebel characters to starring in family-friendly formulaic musical comedies. Now I'll admit I'm a bit of a hypocrite here. More than anything I mourn the fact that he never got to be the type of actor he wanted and was instead stuck making these types of movies. However, I admit I do have films from this period that I enjoy (G.I. Blues, Blue Hawaii, It Happened at the World's Fair, Viva Las Vegas and Girl Happy). That being said, I don't want to watch every film from this period because I know a lot of them are downright terrible and I guess I want to avoid them out of respect or to avoid second-hand embarrassment. But I'll get back to the 60s period soon.
In the 70s, he didn't actually have anymore films, save for two concert films, Elvis: That's the Way it Is and Elvis on Tour (I highly recommend both if the idea of Elvis concert films sounds interesting to you).
Now back to the 60s. I said that his films at that time were just musical comedies, and that's true. BUT, he did actually make three serious, dramatic films at that time too. The problem is, audiences at the time made them all flop because they wanted to see more formulaic musicals. Yeah, he could've finally had a chance to become the type of actor he wanted but audiences decided they wanted shitty musicals.
The first one was Flaming Star, a Western. Interestingly, there were gonna be four songs in this movie, but Elvis demanded that two of them be removed, and thankfully it worked. The first song in the film is actually just a song played over the opening credits with the film's title in the lyrics, and the second one is one played in the beginning during a party scene. Since the second song was played during a party scene and therefore fit into the scene naturally as opposed to a song from a musical where breaking out into song and dance happens spontaneously and doesn't make sense logically, I don't consider this film a musical. Anyway, it's an excellent film imo.
The second one is Wild in the Country which is my favorite of the three. In this one Elvis plays a troubled man ordered to live with his uncle on probation and is sent to a psychiatrist who helps him pursue a literary career, but he ends up falling in love with her as well which causes a scandal (a lot more stuff happens but that's my attempt at giving a shitty plot synopsis). The first time I watched it I was floored by how amazing of a film it was which made me even more furious that audiences in the 60s let it flop because we could've had more roles like this. It kept reminding me of his rebel roles from the 50s which is probably a big reason why I loved it so much. Now this one did have a few songs in it but overall it's definitely a dramatic film first and foremost.
And the last one is Charro, another Western. Look, I wanted to like this one so badly. Elvis in a completely non-singing serious role in a dramatic Western? And he has an awesome beard? That sounds awesome! Unfortunately...I found this one so BORING. It's painful to admit, but it's true. I saw a Letterboxd review say that this feels like a sequel because all the characters have an implied history together, and yeah I know what they mean (not saying a film can't have characters with implied history that's up to the audiences to figure out, but here it just feels like it was done wrong. Idk, I can't explain it). It felt like it wanted to have a Spaghetti Western feel, so the whole time I kept thinking how amazing it would've been if it was more like one of Clint Eastwood's iconic Spaghetti Western films like the Fistful of Dollars trilogy. Definitely my least favorite of the three, I'm sad to say.
Soooo yeah. I hope you enjoyed my long-ass ramble, this was actually me trying to contain myself from writing more because like I said, I just find his film career fascinating lmao.

Elvis Movie Breakdown
in my current opinion, to each their own!
Great stuff (crowd pleasers): Love Me Tender (#1 LMT fan here, even if it wasn't Elvis's favorite movie to work on, its my fav to watch, its one of the few movies he's openly emotional in and fuck it, I think he's a good actor in this, eat my shorts) King Creole (Casablanca director. Melodramatic sometimes but the soundtrack slaps like all fuck and Elvis is charming as Danny, good shit, watch it) Flaming Star (Nuanced 'for it's time', good Elvis performance, SPOILER on secondary watches I stop at the point in which Pacer is radicalized in which I can imagine everything went great after that) It Happened at the World's Fair (Adorable movie alert, Elvis's character is an asshole around romantic prospects but good with kids, so close to real life. Cool as shit shots of the irl World's Fair at the time) Viva Las Vegas (I shan't stand for Viva slander, I ship the fuck out of Ann Margret and Elvis I don't give a fuck if Bye Bye Birdie was shit, just skip the last ten minutes of this flick) Change of Habit (Pretty nuanced, Elvis is a hot doctor. There's a 1969 understanding of what Autism is, keep that in mind if you want to watch)
Fan Favorites! (for the girlies): Loving You (The original music movie biopic, the fight scene in the restaurant slaps cunt severely) Jailhouse Rock (Loving You but what if the protagonist was a lovable asshole, title song dance sequence goes off) G.I. Blues (Adorable as fuck, the definition of fluff, get ready to be seduced by a puppet show) Wild in the Country (It feels like a play. You know? That vibe? Elvis is good in it) Follow That Dream (HIMBO ALERT, not bad, mildly libertarian?) Kissin' Cousins (Ok ok, listen, I know, the title, it's a lot, look Elvis plays two characters and one wears a blond wig wait where are you going wait don't call the police WAIT) Girl Happy (Cute as fuck comedy, actually made me lol, Elvis wears a dress for one scene blink and you'll miss it) Tickle Me (Cute as fuck comedy, haunted house climax) Live a Little, Love a Little (gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss. Two maniacs fall in love)
Drunk Watch (is it good? No, is it entertaining? Maybe): Blue Hawaii (Elvis spanking a suicidal teenager is the highlight of the movie, if u don't like ballads i got bad news for you) Kid Galahad (something something inn keeper type dude has debts zzzzz, fuck me Elvis is wearing a wife beater) Girls! Girls! Girls! (Man loves boat, boat is love, boat is life) Harum Scarum (Racist, offensive, intoxication is a must) Frankie and Johnny (CAMP, pure camp, Elvis gets shot and it's fabulous) Paradise, Hawaiian Style (Love hexagon, he flies a helicopter with a bunch of dogs, gets stranded on an island? It's better than Blue Hawaii, fight me) Double Trouble (A murder plot in an Elvis movie?? Three bumbling detectives take up a majority of the third act, is it funny? No.) Clambake (Elvis wears a suit that looks like a baseball. Races a boat. I forgot about this movie yet it will always haunt me) The Trouble with Girls (So close to being a good-ish. I can't remember the plot. VINCENT PRICE makes a cameo)
See it once for the sake of the marathon (Struggle to keep yourself awake during these beauties): Fun in Acapulco (The child actor made me black out. Elvis is a former circus performer or something) Roustabout (He's hot in a leather jacket, thats about it) Spinout (I always confuse this for Speedway) Easy Come, Easy Go (The worst one. It's not offensive, it's not shocking. It's three episodes of a TV show from the 60s that no one watched) Stay Away, Joe (Imo, just as offensive than Harum Scarum, surreal comedy, funny? No.) Speedway (I always confuse this for Spinout) Charro! (A good movie, compelling, and boring as fuck, Elvis is hot)

in an unfortunate turn of event (me visiting my sister who scheduled a movie seance for my niece), I went to see The Little Mermaid🥴
Cliffs **spoilers** :
- Halle is breathtakingly beautiful... Like- it was lowkey distracting lol. She was perfect for that role. She has those outlandish features that are perfect to pull off the look of a mythical creature such as a mermaid (I feel the same for Michaela Coel). Something tells me the fact she's so pretty and Black AND paired with a White man is one of the reason White Conservative/ANTI/NLOG pickmes seethed particularly hard at that casting🥴
- it's obvious that the story is based in the Caribbeans so Ariel being Black is totally coherent. There's absolutely no "Black in the middle of the snow" syndrome since the cast is extremely diverse and multiracial (Creole type of demographic). The (White) Prince is an adoptee of the Black queen, and most islanders look mixed to some degree. And it's echoing what's happening in the sea kindgom since Ariel and her sisters are supposed to represent the 7 seas (2 mermaids are Black, 2 are White, 1 Arabic, 1 East Asian, 1 Indian) so screaming about White erasure is stupid lol
Oh, And let's not forget King Triton who's Latino LMAO (Javier Bardem)
In the end of the day, directors are entitled to make remake through their own perspective and a Creole Little Mermaid was an interesting and convincing move considering how well put together and highlighted this culture is throughout the entire movie (and let's no forget that even in the OG Little Mermaid Sebastian already had a Creole accent so the call was from inside the building at this point). In retrospective, the whole outrage surrounding this movie lookw even more embarrassing & stupid...
- kinda off that Ariel is 15 years old while the Prince is 21...🥴
- the songs are good - there are 3 additional songs - of which one sang by the Prince (which is okay but still a bit awkward lol). "Under the Sea" SLAPS and is visually marvelous. Scuffle ragga song is funny idc lol
- the CGI looks better in motion (especially Sebastian), but the realism kinda kills the mood. Although I suspect they made this choice so that the animals aren't too much out of place when interacting with humans (which happens A LOT in the movie). It's not like Finding Nemo where humans were only a tiny fraction of screen time.
- the building up of the romance is surprisingly cute. The chemistry between the 2 actors is very convincing. The Creole dancing scene is absolutely lovely. Their bonding around their curiosity for the world and exploration is very credible and fleshes out their romance beyond the 'Prince fell in love with mute unknown girl'/'mermaid falls in love at first sight' thing. I like how they added in the scenario that Ariel forgot that she had to kiss the prince to remain human forever (it was a ruse from Ursula to prevent Ariel of reaching that goal, but also a scenaristic ploy to avoid Ariel rushing to kiss the Prince who quickly felt in love with her) so their romance looked more genuine.
- the Prince is pretty handsome 👀 that's a first for a live action Disney movie imo I also think we dodged a bullet concerning the rumors of Harry Styles being initially casted for the role
- the final fight with (giant) Ursula is kinda underwhelming
- from a Christian perspective: this movie is a total rehabilitation of mermaids. At some point, when Ariel reverts to a mermaid right before the prince and his mom, the Queen says (talking to the prince) "I told you the creatures from the kingdom of sea were DEMONIC" ....and the thing is.... she's supposed to be the evil one for rejecting the mermaids. There's an obvious satanic demon acceptance agenda so don't get it twisted to the purpose of that movie.. it's Disney after all....
