Stuck in The Middle
Summary: After being cramped in a hot car between your coworkers Gojo Satoru and Geto Suguru, you learn a very personal detail about their lives, their sex lives to be in fact!
Pairing: Geto Suguru x FAB!Reader x Gojo Satoru
Word Count: 3,031
Warning: Masturbation, threesome, oral sex, dirty talk, unprotected sex, Geto’s bangs 🥵
A/N: Someone, totally not me. *bombastic side eye at me reflection* Has been reading/looking at tons of SatoSugu artwork. Again totally not me! This was not my brain worm working against me. . .yeah. . .it was. . .🪱
Tumblr media
“Satoru, please, you're on my last nerve.”
“Oh, why? Because I'm breathing? So sorry, I need to breathe, your highness!”
“No, it's because you keep rolling the window up and down! It's hot, and you're letting all the cold air out!”
“Okay, so you tell me how to preoccupy my time? My phone is dead, we're stuck in traffic, and I'm starving!” Satoru turned to glare at his best friend. “If someone hadn't nearly thrown up after swallowing that curse, we could be back at the hotel!”
“I will sic’ one of my curses on you while we're inside the car if you keep testing me!”
“P-Please don't.”
Both Satoru and Suguru seized up, looking down at you. You had been so damn quiet they forgot you were there. You were smashed between the two of them, struggling to breathe. You didn't want to be here. You wanted to go on your own mission. But Yaga had insisted your curse technique for talismans and veils was ideal for this mission.
And your boss wasn't wrong! The three of you kicked major ass, got the job done within a day, and would be staying the night in Chiba before heading back to Tokyo in the morning. That was if you made it to the hotel without Satoru and Suguru killing each other.
Since you left Tokyo, the two best friends have been fighting and arguing. Like they were both on edge, you thought that maybe it was your presence intruding on their space. But they were both civil with you; to each other, it was a different story. They bickered like an old married couple. That was fine at first, but now that they talked about fighting each other? The two strongest sorcerers you knew, yeah, you wouldn’t let that happen.
You sighed in relief as they pulled away, giving you space to breathe. “Oh, Y/N, sorry you're so quiet I almost forgot you were here.” Satoru placed his forearm on your head, leaning in closer to Suguru. “Don't worry about me; I can take Suguru.” Suguru sighed loud enough for the both of you to hear.
“She doesn't want us to fight.”
“Well, not everybody gets what they want.” The words come out like silk as you jerk your head to the side. “Hey!” You don't even have a chance to admire the pout on Satoru as your head collides with Suguru’s shoulder.
“S-Sorry.” This is the only word you can begin to muster as Suguru glances down at you. He gives you a soft, gentle smile, bangs shifting as he shakes his head. A gesture to let you know that you were okay. His eyes slowly open to glare daggers at the other man.
Satoru sighs, rolling his eyes as he turns his attention back out the window. His leg bounces up and down so fast it's vibrating the chair. At least he isn't rolling the window up and down anymore. Maybe the peace would last through traffic. Maybe God would grant you that singular gift.
But God was cruel because the peaceful silence lasted all but thirty minutes. Enough time to get you through the nerve-wracking traffic just as the assistant supervisor pulled up to your hotel. They were the first to get out, rushing to grab Gojo’s luggage from the back. You wanted to join them! To help, but alas, you were still pinned between the two taller men. They were still glaring daggers at the other, waiting to see which would back down first.
There was far too much testosterone in the air for your liking. So you wiggled your way past them, reaching for the door handle. If you had to crawl over their laps to escape to freedom, so be it. A sacrifice you were willing to make! Just as you were getting ready to crawl over Suguru’s lap, Satoru moved.
You let out a little oof as Satoru pressed his whole body against you. You inadvertently fell over onto Suguru’s lap. The dark-haired man’s hands shot up, his thighs tensing at you suddenly collapsing onto him. Before you had a chance to get off or move, you gasped, cheeks flush as Satoru pressed his hips against your ass, poking Suguru in the cheek very aggressively with his pointer finger.
”Does somebody have an upset tummy after swallowing that curse?” The mocking tone of Satoru’s voice nearly makes Suguru grow inaudible. However, it was loud and clear from where you were! Seeing that your face was pressed firmly against his thighs.
Suguru's hand reached up, grabbing Satoru by the front of his jacket, yanking him closer to his face. Which had him pressing his crotch harder against your ass; it felt good. One of your hands flies up to stifle the moan that threatens to escape your mouth as Satoru tries pulling away from his very grumpy best friend.
“Do you have a death wish, Satoru?!”
“No, but I still have your underwear from last week.”
“Yeah, well, I still have your virginity!”
“Mmmph.” You whine, and your hand doesn’t muffle the noise this time.
Both Satoru and Suguru freeze. Their eyes slowly drift towards your body. One hand is gripping Geto’s pants while the other covers your mouth. Your ass is perfectly propped up, right against Satoru. Neither of them can deny how hot you look sprawled out in front of them like this. They exchange a look with each other, while at the same time, you feel Gojo’s cock throb against your ass while Geto’s twitches against your cheek.
Their eyes practically burn holes through your skin, muscles twitching like predators about to pounce. You needed to move fast! Grabbing the handle to the door, you throw it open, crawling over Suguru, hitting the hard pavement with a thump that makes your ears ring. Two large hands grab your jacket, trying to hoist you off the ground and back into the car. Luckily, you’re able to shimmy out of it before you’re caught. You scramble to your feet, bolting for the hotel, ignoring the shouts behind you.
When you’re secure in your room, you plop onto the ground, gasping for air as you stare at the multicolored carpet in shock. Suguru and Satoru were fucking!? Oh God, why did they send you on this mission? It was bad enough having to be stuck between the two of them all day. Now you know details about their very personal and very intimate lives, what the hell were they going to do to you!?
”Stupid Y/N! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!” You scolded yourself as you scrubbed your hands over your face. “Stupid body! Is it too much to ask for a not so reactive body!?” You screamed to the heavens, pushing yourself off the ground as you began pacing, biting your thumb as your eyes darted to the wall separating you and Gojo's room. “I-I’ll just act like I never heard it! Yeah, I don’t know who happened to Take the Gojo Satoru’s virginity.”
It was Geto, his one and only best friend, Geto Suguru.
Your mind kept stating that fact all evening. While you took a shower, ordered room service, and as you currently laid in bed. Scowling at the ceiling in frustration, you're tossed and turned. You were trying to think of anything else other than Satoru and Suguru.
Like how nice and comfy your bed was! How would Satoru look pushed into it? The moon was beautiful! Satoru and Suguru would look pretty fucking in the moonlight. Was the heater on? No, it was just you, wanting to be in the middle, to taste and feel each other, their bodies flush against you, like earlier in the car, only with less clothes on.
“Stop it!” you shouted, getting out of bed. “You can't fantasize about your coworkers like this! They said it by accident. Not on purpose!”
Deciding that sleep wasn't an option, you walked towards the bathroom to grab a glass of water. “S-Suguru~” A whiny moan behind the wall had you freezing in your tracks. “Ahh~ s-Sugu~!” you turned your head slowly, eyeing the wall.
“Satoru~”
God hated you. It was apparent that you were being punished for some unknown sin. You pressed your thighs together, staring at the wall for a long moment. Listening to the soft grunts and groans from the two men on the other side of the wall. The bed creaked, enticing you to step closer, to listen to their moans. Your body moved, inching closer to the wall. But before you could you froze. No, this was wrong! You shouldn't be eavesdropping! You should leave as this had nothing to do with you! Before you could turn to go, a sharp inhale caught your attention.
“S-She was so pretty~” Satoru cried out, “ah! I w-wanna touch her.”
“Yeah~ she's so pretty. I would love to have her and you at the same time.” A breathless whine. “Oooh, you twitched, Satoru. You like that idea~.”
You liked that idea.
Forgetting all morals, you strode forward, slowly dropping to your knees and pressing your ear against the wall. “Y-Yeah~ like it~” The bed creaked fast, squeaking under the weight of whatever the duo was doing.
“She’d look pretty stuffed between us~ stuck in the middle.”
You felt your pussy twitch, a silent plea for you to relieve the burning heat building inside you. “Fuck.” A tiny whine sounded in the back of your throat as you slid your hand inside your shorts, rubbing your clit. You imagined being stuck between them. The smell of musk, clean linen, and earthy wood. Put them together, and god imagining their scent lingering on your skin could almost make you cum. “Haaah~” you cry out a little too loud, but you're losing yourself in the fantasy that you don't even notice the creaking of the bed has stopped. “Fuck~”
“I wanna kiss her~” Satoru groans out.
“I wanna kiss her too, on that pretty clit.” Suguru added.
“Yes ~ yeah, I-I want that too.” Your fingers pressed harder against yourself.
“I wanna fuck her while she sucks you off. Same position as when we were in the car.”
“Yeah~ she’d look so pretty choking on me while you fuck her.”
God, they were so lewd! It had you crying out softly, legs shaking as you whimpered loudly.“Fuck!” You cried out, rubbing your swollen clit faster, mouth dropping open at your quickened pace. “Oooh fuck.” Touching yourself is just what you needed. Your fingers were inches from sliding inside, your tight heat. Soon, you’d feel sweet relief.
Knock, Knock, knock.
Three quick taps hit the wall right where your ear was. Hurriedly, you pull away, staring at the wall in shock. A chuckle sounds from the other side of the wall before you hear footsteps heading across the floor, their door creaking open before the same quick knocks sound from your door. Ooooh fuck.
With shaky legs, you stand, heading to the door, slowly opening it. You inhaled sharply as a large hand pressed against it, forcing it open more. Suguru slowly leaned down, his face flushed, his hair a complete mess, and his lips swollen. His sudden closeness had you stepping further into your room.
His eyes took in your own flushed face, darting your legs that you clenched. “So Y/N,” he stepped inside your room, gently grabbing your chin, “you gonna keep playing with yourself? Or do you wanna pick up where we left off in the car?” You failed to find the words, stuttering and stumbling over your traitorous tongue. Suguru smiled gently, tilting his head to the side, waiting patiently for your answer.
Going next door to join them was insane, right? Yes. Were you going to do it? Fucking absolutely.
“Y-Yeah—-I wanna pick up where we left off.”
“Good girl.” Ever so slowly, Suguru brought your fingers to his mouth. His eyes trailed over them, still wet with your slick. “Come on.” He opened his mouth, kissed swollen lips wrapping around your fingers, sucking on them sinfully.
“Holy shit!” You cursed as he swirled his tongue around them.
When he could no longer taste your sweet, tangy essence, he pulled off with a pop. His tongue lolled out, swiping at the corner of his mouth. “We don't want to keep Satoru waiting.”
Everything was a blur, shutting your door and entering their Satoru’s room. He was sitting on the edge of the bed, leaning back as he slowly grinned—a smug grin tugging at the corner of his mouth.
“Awe~ you actually came.” Satoru patted the side of the bed, his erection straining against his boxers. “Come sit, sit, noisy girl.”
You plopped down next to Satoru, swallowing as the two men looked over you. “Satoru, she told me she wasn't to pick up where we left off.” The white-haired man perked up, blue eyes glancing at you as he turned.
“You do?”
“Yes.” There wasn't a second of hesitation as you nodded. “Yes, I do!”
“Okay, well, in that case.” Sitting on his knees, Satoru whistled happily as he pulled you up onto your knees with him. “Get into position.” He turned your body so your back was turned towards him.
For a split second, you were face to face with Suguru, sitting at the head of the bed. He winked at you before you were pushed down to present your ass to Satoru from behind. A tiny gasp sounded from your throat as Suguru squeezed at the bulge in his sweats that you were face to face with. A small wet spot formed where his tip was leaking pre-cum against the gray fabric.
“Are you sure you're okay with this?” Thick, long fingers played with the elastic of your pajama shorts.
“Mhmm, I'm positive.”
With a final approval of consent, cold air hit your bare ass as your shorts were yanked down. Hissing at the sudden chill, you focused on Suguru’s hand. It was squeezing the bulge harder; the faintest groans rumbled in his chest. Your hands trailed over his thighs, his muscles twitching as you grabbed his waistband.
“Can I give you a hand?”
Suguru shook his head. “No, you may not.” His words stung, a pout forming on your lips. “You may, however, use your mouth.” You beamed up at him, tugging his pants down, freeing his massive erection that bobbed in the air.
“Oooh, it's so pretty.” Gently grabbing his shaft, you stroked it. “Thank you, Suguru.”
While you took Suguru’s cock in your mouth Satoru slapped your ass from behind, spreading your cheeks, looking at your dripping cunt with a needy groan. “Fuck, she's soaked. Did you get off on hearing us dry-humping Y/N?” You gave a little ‘mhm!’ around Suguru’s cock. “Oooh, what a little perv,” Satoru growled, smacking your ass harder.
“No, she's a good girl.” Sweet sighs left Suguru’s mouth as you peeked up at him. “Such a good girl, look at you sucking my cock~ so good.” One of his hands gently pressed your head, urging you to take more of him, while the other rested behind his head. “Fuck, Satoru, her mouth feels so good.”
You were taking more of Suguru’s cock into your throat when you felt Satoru rubbing the head of his cock over your entrance. Your eyes rolled back as you moaned, the tip of his cock back and forth over your slick folds. He hummed, locking his bottom lip with a smirk. “Yeah, down here feels good too~ she's so wet.” Hot, velvety skin slid up. “So wet I might slip inside.” Your eyes widened as his tip pressed past your tight entrance. “Oops~”
“Y/N~ did Satoru slip inside like he said he would?” You moaned in response, deep-throating Suguru as far as you could, gagging over his length. “Fuuck~ you like it? Being stuffed like this~? Your mouth and your pussy are being put to good use.” your eyes water as he gagged more, Suguru pushing you down to his base. Your nose brushing against trimmed black pubes.
“Nnngh fuck, she's twitching like crazy. She likes it~ no, she loves this~!” Suddenly, you were filled to the brim as Satoru slammed into you, gritting his teeth.
Body twitching, you shut your eyes tight, focusing on breathing as best as possible through your nose. But fuck, it was hard to concentrate as Satoru’s hips began rutting against you at a slow and steady pace. Your moans and gags muffled together as Suguru gently thrusts his hips up into your mouth, a whine.
Both men looked at you for a long moment, watching drool running out of the corners of your mouth and how you began rocking back against Satoru’s clock, begging for more. Their eyes locked, gleaming with a mixture of lust and pure, unfiltered need before Suguru leaned over, kissing Satoru.
His sudden movement had his cock pushing further down your throat. You gagged, pulling back to breathe. “Ah! Ah, fuck!” you cried out, grabbing Suguru’s cock in your hand and stroking him as Satoru began thrusting harder. His grunts slipped into Suguru’s mouth as their tongues melded together. You glanced up, watching as Suguru cupped Satoru’s face in both hands, deepening the kiss as his hips thrust into your hand.
Satoru looked like he was struggling to keep up, hips bucking madly against your ass while his tongue moved against Suguru’s in a way that you knew he liked. There was no fumbling around, just two insanely hot guys making out with you in the middle. Breaking the kiss, you watched Suguru gasp for air, his hair even more messy before he grabbed you by the hair, spanking your head up.
“Enjoying the show?” You whined as you nodded; Satoru was now hitting your g-spot head-on. “Ooh, you getting close?”
“Yeah, s-she—ngh fuck!” Skin slapped against the skin as Satoru leans forward, trailing kisses up your spine. “She's so tight, so fucking tight, she's gonna cum, gonna cum and milk me~! Fuck!”
You jerked your hand faster over Suguru’s spit-slicked cock. Your eyes glaze over as Satoru whimpers over your skin. The sight of the two of you slowly unraveling has Suguru tilting his head back with a snarl. The two of you made the cutest whines and whimpers as the overwhelming tension of a building orgasm twisted in both your cores. He wasn't going to last, not at all.
“Fuck, I'm gonna cum.” Suguru yelled, body doubling over, his hand gripping your hair. “O-Open wide~”
“S-Sugu—Suguru!” Satoru watched as his best friend jerked himself madly over your tongue before he shoved his cock into your mouth. “Y-Yeah, fill her mouth, give her that cum.”
Suguru does precisely that; you moan as his cum fills your mouth, thick and salty with just a hint of sweetness to it. He doesn't stop; Suguru just keeps thrusting, moaning, and grunting as he pushes all his cum into your mouth, only stopping when he feels you swallowing around his softening cock. When he looks up from the top of your head, he sees Satoru’s face scrunch up. Eyebrows knitted together as his hips jerk madly against your ass.
“Oh fuck me~ fuck me I'm cummin’ haa ha fuck!” As ropes of cum paint your insides, Suguru quickly reaches down, rubbing your clit as you pull off his twitching cock.
“C-cumming!” Your hoarse voice called out, your hands gripping Suguru’s shirt to steady yourself. “S-Satoru—Sugu—c-cumm—”
“Aaahh fuck!” Satoru grunts out, head falling against your shoulder as you scream, squirting all over him.
He keeps fucking into you, working you both through the waves of your orgasms, pushing you both to the border of oversensitivity. It isn't until you are both trembling that Suguru pulls his hand back, chuckling weakly as his two spent lovers collapse on the bed. He's half tempted to get up, to grab a warm towel to clean all of you off, but he doesn't.
Not when Satoru gently presses his middle and index finger against your chin, turning your head toward him. “You’re so fuckin’ beautiful.” He leans forward, kissing you softly. You return his kiss, moaning against his lips as he repositions your bodies. You sprawled out under him as he stayed slotted between your legs.
Satoru only breaks the kiss when he feels Suguru climb behind him. He doesn't get to ask what he’s doing because Suguru pushes his head down, encouraging him to kiss you more. Satoru keeps kissing you, eyes going wide as he feels the wet tip of Suguru’s cock pressing against his stretched and lubed hole.
“That’s it, keep kissing Y/N Satoru~ it's my turn to enjoy the show~!”

supervisor!simon stop trying to be a douche challenge IMPOSSIBLE‼️‼️‼️‼️
Monday you walk into the office, headphones blasting your music. Simon’s door wide open, he was sitting in his chair doing god knows what. Probably reading the employee handbook front to back. Unfortunately your desk was right across from his office, so if he had the door open, you were in his sight.
You were the first one in the office, you dropped your stuff on your desk, almost half an hour till you have to clock. You wander into the break room, it’s empty and you almost do a backflip; grateful you don’t have to socialize this early in the morning (don’t talk to me until i’ve had my coffee 😏😏 ew lmao.). You warm up your muffin from home and refill your water cup.
you wander back to your desk, the office still empty. You noticed Simon's office was empty, that thought immediately shot as he walked back into his office, “Good morning.” he said, holding a cup in one hand, his notepad in the other. “Morning.” you said quietly, he motioned towards his ears, “headphones.” you point to the clock above his door, “ahh.” he hummed, 15 more minutes until you have to clock in. “I’ll leave you to it then.” but before he shut his door, “we have a meeting at nine, I’m sending out an email later.” he tapped the door frame before he shut the door completely.
People slowly started coming in, Linda had bought a giant pack of sticky notes, going around asking if people needed some, it made you crack a smile. Everyone politely declined, “Linda I need some!” you say as you wave her over, “thank god, I was going crazy.” she says her chubby cheeks round, her soft smile makes you giddy. She was like everyone's Grandma, so sweet and so kind. “I’ve been running out.” you grin at her as she shows you the pack she bought with different designs, some having cute dogs, little cats, frogs, hearts.  “These ones are my favorites.” she points to the pink sticky notes with the dogs at the bottom. “I’ll take one of each.” you both went back and forth discussing what kind of pens you love, sticky notes, and how much both of you hate when highlighters chew up the paper.
Simon heard your voice and Linda's from behind his door, getting up from his chair, he saw you and Linda, chatting and giggling like school girls. This was the first time he’s ever heard you so clear; so expressive. Simon Walked towards you two, not noticing him behind Linda. You let out a loud laugh, from some corny joke she made. Simon clears his throat causing you both to scurry back into whatever it was you were doing. He walked back into his office calling on your other coworker, not even 20 minutes later, said coworker is heading towards the front door.
Your eyes follow them as they hurry to the front door. Simon's door is still open, you look at him and see he’s already looking directly at you. Your heart thumps in your chest, a weird sensation builds in your stomach, you try your hardest to ignore it and carry on with your work.
-
The meeting passed and it was already after lunchtime, Simon was really pissed off, and he was being very snappy. Apparently someone had been making fake insurance claims under the business name (it’s all fake, everyone chill before the insurance police come!) , so now there’s an investigation happening. You thought back to your coworker earlier, but quickly brushed the thought off.
You could understand Simon’s annoyance and frustration, he was really mad during the meeting, his accent was getting thicker and it made you smile a bit. His voice was loud and booming, you had to excuse yourself to the bathroom to have a giggle fit, that was quickly interrupted by some lady who went to pee. Your thoughts immediately voided after you remember he threatened to fire you over headphones. I mean sure Simon’s handsome, he’s tall, he smells good all the time. He wears well fitted clothes that show off his muscles. A beautiful side profile, pretty lashes and he has an accent! AND, his voice is deep and smooth. But he’s childish and petty, always has to get the last word, won’t take no for an answer, if you annoy him he’ll flood you with work, sometimes he’s snappy other times he’s super sweet. He doesn’t know when to back off, terrible staring problem, is kind of a neat freak, types way too loud and aggressively. Oh and let’s not forget he definitely has something against you and your headphones.
-
You were dealing with an annoying customer, who didn’t have a paper that absolutely needed to be notarized, so they just signed it and thought they could bring it back to you.
Not taking you seriously, you suggested taking it up with your supervisor. You walked to the back of the building, knocking on Simon's office door, your heart raced a little bit.
You could hear his deep voice, a very stern “Come in.” he looked up from his screen with a heavy sigh, “Quitting?”  the corner of his mouth quirked up, you snorted at his wit. “Not until I get my first write up.” you answer, earning a chuckle from him. “What can I do for you, Miss?” he motioned to the paperwork in your hand, you feel hot from the brief interaction. It seemed as if all tension from earlier shed the minute you stepped into his office.
“Uh, this guy brought an un-notarized document, and won’t take no for an answer.” he nods. “So you're here?” he chews on the side of his cheek. “Looks like it.” you shrug.  “I guess I could figure something out.” Simon says mid stretch, his button up shirt clad against his biceps as he raised his arms. “Wait right here, I’ll be back.” Simon stood up and took the sheet of paper and walked to the front. He came back 15 minutes later to grab the same blank document, walked back out and came back in.
“Alright missy, you're set.” he says as he takes his seat across the chair you were sitting in. “you’re being nice these days.” you joke, that obviously didn’t land in your favor.
“You think I’m mean?” Simon's brows furrow. “ I think you could ease up a bit.” you chuckle awkwardly. He lifts a brow, “because I don’t let you slack.” he scoffs, “No because you pick on me for no reason.” You say shifting awkwardly.
“I told you headphones weren’t allowed.” he says,
“You hovered over my desk then threatened my job.” you press,
“You went against the rules not once, but multiple times. I’m your boss, I’m allowed to monitor.”
Simon crosses his arms, and before you say anything else Simon excuses you, and you stomp out of his room. Walking to the bathroom you fight back the urge to scream, contemplating quitting this job. Tears build in your eyes out of pure frustration, wiping your eyes aggressively. You gather yourself, and head back to your desk, and you continue your work, putting your headphones in both ears, blasting your music.
You finished your work and sat on your phone until it was time to clock out, ignoring every email sent by Simon and searching for a new job on your computer.

confession: i refrained from talking about It here (though i livetweeted the ordeal on my priv lsbdfsdlf) but now that things have calmed down, i wanted to share what's happened
from february 4 to february 12 of 2024, i experienced the most heartbreaking and heart wrenching week of my life. my mother tried to commit suicide several times, and the days were first spent taking care of her while in an overdosed state while she said over and over that she wanted to die before i finally broke and begged her to go to the hospital. up until that point, i was looking after her on my own. i was feeding her, getting her to sit up to drink water, walking her to the bathroom, checking if she was still breathing, and enduring it when she got mad at me and told me she was “fine.” i was hanging on by a thin thread. i’ve always been the house’s caretaker—always known as the pragmatic and responsible one—but this was more than I could ever handle.
“i don’t know how to help anymore,” i told my older sister when i myself had my own breakdown on the night of my mother’s hospitalization. as i hyperventilated and sobbed, the feeling of helplessness shook my body and my words. “i can’t help anymore.”
and then something really wonderful happened: people came and helped
when news got out of my mother's attempts, suddenly my phone was blowing up with texts and messages from people i didnt know. they were her friends: old friends from college, friends from the university she teaches at, her family from the province. they were all asking me and my siblings if they could help with anything: driving, food, money, emotional support. her family in the province drove hours from the province to meet us in the city just to lend a hand in keeping us calm. her friends from the university were the ones who drove her to the hospital and helped us out with a loan and financial aid for the ER bills.
my brother who lives in japan flew in back to the philippines despite having an academic conference just to help. his girlfriend drove him from the airport to the hospital despite having to study for an exam. my older sister's boyfriend came over just to buy us all donuts and food to make sure we were all eating while looking after everything. my girlfriend bought my sisters and i trinkets from a convention just to make us smile during these hard times, and she kept reminding me to sleep and eat and drink and take my meds. my online friends who knew were messaging me asking if i was okay, if i wanted to see some bird posts for serotonin or if i needed somebody to vent to or even to help with money too. hell, even my coworkers asked me if i was okay. they asked about my mom, and i told them, but then my supervisor asked "but how are YOU?" and i burst into tears
all this reminds me of that weird "discourse" i see around about how youre not supposed to ask friends for help because we're all adults and. i am 24. and in these weeks, i felt more like a helpless child than ive ever felt in my life
and yet
people came and helped
when youre needed, youre needed
and we didnt even ask. they just....showed up.
everybody we knew—friends, acquaintances, colleagues, family—they all showed up when we needed them
idk. i guess in this world it's really easy to feel really alone. i sure did. but youre really really not. i had no idea how many people were looking out for us, but they're here. they were here for us. ive lost count of how many people came to help, and isnt that a beautiful thing. i lost count of how many people helped

BAD (GOOD) LUCKY — l.heeseung
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
PAIRING: heeseung x fem!reader GENRES: fluff, humor WC: 2.1k+
WARNINGS: a few (quick) swear words, mentions of food and that's it. nothing to worry about here, i guess. let me know if i've forgotten anything!
NOTES: this writing was supposed to come out on our heeseung's bday, but i didn't have a good couple of days. and i also had a huge creative block. after long days, maybe weeks, i managed to produce this. it's not one of my best pieces of writing and even less was i totally satisfied with it. it was my first time writing in the third person too, and I confess it was very different.… but since i promised i'd deliver something for his birthday, here it is. i hope you like it.

Heeseung had always been a very skeptical boy about many things in his life. He had a few friends who talked about fate, karma, and anything that might involve the universe. Yes, he respected all that and sometimes – very rarely – he believed something or other they said. Like now.
He knew that everything that was happening in his day was some kind of karma from the universe. But why? Why didn't he help his coworker draft a document? Or why he accidentally bumped into someone in the street and, in his haste, forgot to apologize? Or why he was so sleepy on his way to college that he didn't say good morning to Mrs. Cho, who always stood on his balcony in the morning.
Heeseung didn't know what he had done wrong, but he knew that karma was at work.
Forgetting to hand in an important college assignment, getting lectured by his favorite teacher, forgetting to check the weather forecast, and getting soaked on the way to work. To make matters worse, Heeseung hadn't packed any extra clothes, so he didn't know what to do.
"Maybe there's something in the lost and found, I can check for you" Sunoo was a wonderful friend and Heeseung couldn't thank him enough. But the attempt didn't say it would be a success, because nothing in the company's lost and found would suit him. Or fit him for a whole day.
The only alternative was to talk to the supervisor, so he could take the laptop home and work on it while thinking about a nice hot bath and the coziness of his bed. That's what he needed.
"I can't buy an outfit, there are no stores around," he huffed, trying his best to dry his hair with the hand-drying paper from the bathroom.
Sunoo laughed, trying to think of something that could help.
But again, karma was at work.
"No light? That's got to be a joke" he wanted to shout, but he knew he could get a fine from the condominium if he did "No, no, no… I need… Shit!" Heeseung didn't know what else to do but take a shower – a cold one – and find somewhere else to work.
He had already left the company so that he could do this at home, he wouldn't leave anything else to accumulate or with karma acting on all his actions that day.
He ignored all the chills as the icy water fell on his skin, or bit his lips so hard as he took that cold shower just to wash his whole body and have a little hope that the wave of bad luck would go down the drain.
Putting on a sweatshirt and grabbing a more presentable, dry backpack, he put on his belongings and went in search of somewhere nearby where he could work.
The convenience store around the corner from his building was a bit noisy, so he knew he could lose focus at any moment. And Heeseung didn't want anything else getting in the way of his day.
Walking a little further, or perhaps a little further than he wanted, he found a small café. It was about a fifteen-minute walk from his house, he hadn't counted. But it looked like a good place and he just wanted to sit down and get to work.
What a scene from a movie, he thought to himself after looking for the most secluded table in the establishment and sitting down. He set down his laptop in time for an attendant to come over and take his order.
It wasn't long before he arrived and Heeseung could enjoy his drink and donut while he got to work. It was all he needed for the day after all the bad luck that had been hanging over him.
"Destiny has something in store for us every day of our lives."
"Everything connects and karma does exist. If you do good, it comes back to you."
"The universe reserves things for us that are inexplicable. Everything is mapped out."
The voices of his friends echoed in his mind. Could Heeseung start to believe that now? Or was he still too skeptical about all the things he had always heard from his circle of friends? Maybe the karma part would start to be real in his life after today… He couldn't say.
Taking a deep breath and with a half-smile, glancing at the clock in the corner of his computer, he noticed that he had been there for a long four hours. Looking up, the café was empty, just him and another gentleman on the other side.
Did I stay that long? Heeseung wondered as he watched the man walk up to the counter and pay for his order before leaving.
He yawned, stretched his back, and yawned again. It was time to go home, maybe the power had come back on or he could take a few minutes to rest before calling the condominium and seeing what had happened.
But his thoughts were interrupted by the front door. A bang as it opened and a girl rushed in, her eyes quickly meeting those of the attendant before she excused herself and went to a corner of the cafe.
The table was not far from Heeseung's and he could hear slight sniffles as the same attendant who had come to his table hours before was now attending to the woman.
"Just a coffee, please" her voice was broken and he didn't have to turn and face her to know that she was crying.
A break-up? A dismissal? Heeseung didn't know what had happened, but now his trip home could be postponed. Perhaps he was curious to know why the woman was like that, or just slightly worried about the way she had quickly entered the establishment.
Heeseung wanted to turn and face her, just to see if his thoughts were right or just out of a little curiosity.
He let the waiter take her order and, at that moment, Heeseung turned around cautiously. He just hadn't counted on the woman already looking in his direction.
Damn it, Heeseung wanted to curse himself for being so nosy, turning to his table as quickly as he had turned to face her. He thought he'd gone mad when he heard a low laugh after he straightened up… Had he made that woman laugh? No, it wasn't possible. Then, turning around once more, he faced her while she was still looking at him.
"Are you okay?" was the first thing that crossed Heeseung's mind as they both held each other's gaze for long seconds.
"I'll be fine" she said, smiling straight away.
He tried to ignore her watery eyes as he watched her smile, reflecting the act and smiling at the same time. He didn't know how or where the idea came from to get up and walk across the few tables that separated them, taking a seat right in front of her.
The girl looked at him expectantly, attentively sipping her coffee, waiting to hear what he was going to say next.
Heeseung didn't know either. He at least had no idea why he had gotten up in the first place, he just did it and the next thing he knew, he was facing her.
"Tough day, huh?" the question was rhetorical, but the girl still nodded in agreement and sighed, leaving her glass on the table "My day sucked too."
"You seem fine to me" she smiled amusedly, which made Heeseung let out a little laugh and lean his arms on the table.
"If I tell you what my day was like, do you promise to believe me?"
"I promise" she said simply, and Heeseung smiled at that.
Of course, he would tell her every detail of his day, even the most embarrassing ones since he woke up. His theories about why everything was happening and even his cold shower and the lack of power in the apartment. He wouldn't let any of it pass as he watched her laugh with every little sentence.
And strangely, the boy felt good putting it all out there to a stranger who just agreed – now and then letting out a chuckle – and paid all the attention in the world to every single thing he said.
"So I guess your day was a lot heavier than mine" she said as soon as he had finished telling her everything. Maybe it was time for her to share.
Heeseung took his time, waited patiently, and even encouraged her to say something. She didn't seem apprehensive, let alone embarrassed about opening up. Strangely, she felt comfortable talking.
"A job promotion was taken away from me" she sighed after a long while, leaning back in her chair and playing with her empty coffee cup "I worked so hard for it, you know? I worked so hard for a whole year to… Just… Have it snatched away."
He realized that she might cry at any moment and, damn it, that had made Heeseung panic. Why did a stranger crying in front of him put him off?
Spotting the attendant, he decided to order the most sugary, chocolate-filled drinks available.
"On me" he said before she could even say no.
And for long minutes they both drank that chocolate milkshake without saying a word, just laughing at each other as they shared glances across the cafe.
"I forgot to tell you something" the girl decided as she wiped her mouth.
The sadness had faded a little after a moment shared with that stranger. Heeseung, curious and attentive, also abandoned his drink to pay attention to her.
"I hear you" he straightened up.
"The job is with my so-called work friend" she nibbled her lower lip and sighed, remembering what her flatmate – and best friend – had told her "Because she had sex with my boss and that's why she got it. Not for what she had to offer as an employee."
"Oh my God!" Heeseung almost screamed at that information. He barely knew the girl, but her sharing it like that made it all the better "So she's got your job, but not on merit. How… Ridiculous!"
"Exactly" and then, for the first time, he heard the laughter of the girl in front of him. A contagious laugh that made her even more beautiful.
"And I have to go now" after a long time, that was sure to happen "How much do I owe you for the milkshake?"
Yes, she was so beautiful. Heeseung wouldn't deny that.
And she wouldn't deny how handsome the boy in front of her was either. Who had just bought her one of the best milkshakes she'd ever had.
The moment when they would part, say goodbye, and never see each other again. But Heeseung didn't want that to happen. So those words were only realized after they came out of his mouth.
"I don't know, you can pay me back next time we see each other."
Oh… Had that really happened?
"Like a date?" she smiled shyly, her cheeks turning redder than the coffee shop upholstery. Heeseung thought it was adorable.
"Like a date" he said, reaching into his pocket for his cell phone and sliding it onto the table.
In a nutshell, it was understandable that she could put her number into the phone and, as soon as she did, Heeseung took the phone in his hands.
"Y/n?" he read the name as soon as she stood up, seeing that the girl had stopped all her movements to look at him "A very nice name. It suits you."
"Thank you" she smiled and waited for him to get up and pack his things before escorting her out of the café and walking a few steps together to the corner where they would eventually part "And what's your name, unluck boy?"
Nice nickname, Heeseung thought after he laughed at that, packing his backpack with all his belongings to go home.
"My name is Heeseung."
"A beautiful name, just like you" she couldn't make the same move, could she? But she did. And it was his turn to feel his cheeks burn quickly before she waved him away "I'll be waiting for your message, unlucky boy."
She greeted him one last time before turning the next corner and disappearing from Heeseung's view. Leaving him with a silly grin on his face and the thought that he wasn't a bad luck boy from the moment the universe put her in that cafe, at exactly the time Heeseung needed.

WIBTA if i reached out to someone who said they didn't want to talk to me again while in an episode?
i (21nb) and N (23nb) were best friends for years as teenagers. we did everything together on weekends, and were so close that we almost became partners (and really acted like it). our friend group slowly drifted apart as we became adults and started our own lives, as high school friends often do.
awhile ago we started talking again and catching up, and we were really excited to hang out again! we ended up working at the same place over the summer, and were excited to be coworkers. but over the week, he started being strange to me and telling me over and over how stressed he was. i knew he was historically unstable when under a lot of stress (me too), so i tried to keep an eye on him and look out for him.
it all came to a head at the end of the week, when there was a high-stress situation at work. multiple people were triggered, and i was trying to handle both the kids in the situation and corral the unhelpful adults. N ended up being one of the unhelpful adults, so i asked him nicely to take a step back from the situation so the problem put in charge of it could finish handling it.
well, N exploded. he yelled at me in front of my boss, my coworkers, and several children that i was out of line telling him what to do. i got upset and tried to talk to him, but he stalked off angrily. a few minutes later, he came back again to yell at me more, saying i had "talked to him like a child" and that i obviously didn't respect him and his skills. he told me never to contact him again after we were finished working together.
upset, i went to a supervisor and told them what happened, and asked that he be talked to for yelling at me in front of children. i mentioned that i was sympathetic to him and didn't want him punished, because i understand what it's like to have volatile mental illness and be unstable.
somehow he found out that i said that and got even more triggered, texting me to harass me for the rest of our week together and insisting that he does not have volatile mental illness, that he never said he did, and that i was pathologizing his justified behavior. i was confused and said that he had told me multiple times that we had the same struggles, and that i was trying to be sympathetic, but he insisted that i was lying and said again that i shouldn't contact him and blocked me.
now, here's my question. it's been awhile since this happened, and i do really miss him. i feel like i must have done Something wrong here, but i don't entirely know what it was that set N off so harshly. i am thinking of reaching out to him and asking if he can explain his perspective and listen to mine so that we can find some common ground and at least be cordial if we work together again. i want to respect his boundaries and if he told me no i wouldn't argue- but N was clearly triggered in some way and speaking out of emotion, and usually when that happens to me i regret my words after. so WIBTA if i just reached out once? looking for input from other severely mentally ill people here specifically please
What are these acronyms?

For the past few days, you're trying your best on ignoring the game with work and socializing. Sure you may not be the most social person ever, but you do have friends.
At the end of the week, Irene and Seulgi invited you to brunch near their workplace. Wendy and Joy were too busy so it's only you three.
The anomaly however was Yeri didn't show up.
Hell she didn't even reply to your message when the incident with Hwayoung happened.
You debated whether or not to ask Irene or Seulgi, but your curiosity won over as you cleared your throat before looking at the two.
"So," You started. "Have you guys seen Yeri? Or... talked with her?"
Irene chewed on her croissant as she shook her head, while Seulgi frowned. "Yeri? No updates on her, but Wendy did say that she's busy with work right now so it's probably why she hasn't been active on social media."
"Or replying to your texts," Irene continued. "I invited her to join me for dinner a few days ago but no answer. So she must be really busy."
"Yeah. Probably because of the new game her company's about to launch."
"Give her some space," Seulgi shrugged. "She's always like this when she's in the zone. Remember last time when she blew up on Joy when she spammed her during a meeting."
You grimaced at the memory, remembering how big the fight was that it made Joy and Yeri didn't talk for a month.
"Believe me, I do not want to relieve that experience," Irene sighed.
Soon the conversation shifted from Yeri, from work to relationship problems; you're glad it's taking your mind off the game and Yeri for a while. Irene said goodbyes first when her manager called her, cursing under her breath making you both laugh in amusement. Seulgi left after an hour, promising to take you and Yeri out for drinks when you all have the time.
Walking back to your apartment, you bought some snacks to eat when you're working. Thankfully the project did wonders to your company, so you're only working light tasks with your coworkers whilst waiting for an update from your supervisor.
"—Yeah! And then she stupidly asked me if I still love her?! Ugh, as if!"
You laughed at what your coworker, Yeonjun, outbursts along with another one, Soobin. Both were also in your team when developing the project, and you got along pretty well so sometimes you liked to call them or have zoom meetings together to spend some time.
"Hmm, told you she was delulu. It's like she's in her own fantasy land that she created," Soobin hums as typing could be heard from his side.
"Yeah," You agreed. "Remember when she visited our work to state she's the new intern? Holy shit was that a fiasco."
Soobin laughed even louder as Yeonjun could only groan. "Man, how could I forget that? Supervisor Kim blasted my ear from having him yell at me for hours."
"Not hours," You and Soobin replied together. "It's only like, five minutes," Soobin continued.
"Felt like hours," He grumbled.
Doing your work whilst talking to them made the bad thoughts go away, especially one residing on the corner of your computer, but you ignored it. What you can't ignore is how your computer likes to glitch and freeze when you're working.
Well, not your computer perse, but the programs you're currently running likes to have problems when before that it's totally fine.
"What the—Are you kidding me?" You hissed as Photoshop didn't respond, making you groan as you slumped down on your chair.
"What? What's wrong?"
"My Photoshop is acting up," You whined.
"Ha! What're you doing on Photoshop anyway?"
"Making your ass even more uglier," You grumbled towards Yeonjun, who squaked in offense.
"Awesome. Can you send that to me after you finished it?" Soobin asked as the both of you ignored Yeonjun's yelling.
"Sure. Maybe I'll finish it today since I've finished my part of the work."
"Wait!" Yeonjun yelled. "You're finished making the poster and banner? You've already sent it to Supervisor Kim?"
"Yup, a few hours ago. So relieved I actually finished it since my computer has been fighting me the whole time."
"Soobin! How about you?"
"Actually thanks for reminding me to email my work."
"Am I the only one who hasn't finished yet in the team?" Yeonjun gasped dramatically.
You hum teasingly, before remembering that he was the only one not finished yet. "Actually, yeah. Eunchae and Chaewon finished theirs already."
"Fuck!"
"Honestly, Yeonjun," Soobin teased. "We're only supposed to make posters and banners ideas for the next event. It's easy."
"Yeah, yeah, I know. Just say that I'm lazy and—"
Crackling noise from your headphones cut Yeonjun off, making you frown in confusion before clicking back at the call, noticing how it's still going but their voices have disappeared.
"Guys? Hello?"
No answer.
You shrugged before ending the call, whipping out your phone before texting both of them.
You: heyyoo seems like we got disconnected
Soobin: ???
Soobin: wdym
Yeonjun: (name) you're still on the call
You're heart dropped, tension started to rise in your body as you scrambled to text them back.
You: what?? I literally disconnected from the call like a minute ago
Yeonjun: well i mean...could be a lag? You're not talking
Soobin: let's just end the call
Soobin: wanna call again?
You huffed, glancing back at your computer. Shaking your head, you decided to decline his offer, stating that you need to check your computer first if you want it to work properly.
Yeonjun: aight, update us
Soobin: yeah and send me that picture of yeonjun
Yeonjun: TRAITOR
You let out a small smile, sighing in relief because of their antics. You decided to restart your computer, of course after you saved the photoshopped image of Yeonjun. After it turned on, you checked numerous times if it's starting to lag or freeze as you open websites, tabs, or even applications.
Humming happily when you found none, you're startled when a call from Yeri rang from your phone. But the call ended before you could answer, making you stare at your phone in confusion. A text from Yeri seemed concerning enough for you to accept her offer.
Yeri <3: hey
Yeri <3: sorry for not answering
Yeri <3: can we call rn?
You sighed heavily at the reply, your heart easing at knowing that Yeri's actually alive and not dead in a ditch somewhere. Well, that's a hyperbole but you can't help but feel like that when your friends disappeared from the face of the earth.
Waiting for the call to load, you anxiously bit your lip as you waited for her. When Yeri's icon appeared, you quickly turned on your camera, waving sheepishly as you smiled.
"Hey—uh, do you mind turning on your cam? If you don't want to, that's fine! No pressure."
You're only met with silence, but you waited patiently for Yeri to answer.
"Yeah, hold on."
Shuffling could be heard from Yeri's end, before you heard Yeri move around stuff around her desk. She did had a lot of clutter, but the sounds coming from the call seems excessive. You frown hearing plastic water bottles and what you assume to be cans of energy drink fell down, making Yeri curse loudly.
Yeri finally turned on her camera but you realized why she's so hesitant on turning it on in the first place. It's dark in her room, the only light present is from her own computer.
Boy, did she look like a wreck.
Eyebags deep enough to give a hint that she didn't slept for almost a week, hair disheveled like she didn't brush it everyday, her room being a mess like a bomb was dropped.
"Yeri," You whispered. "What happened?"
Yeri looked away as she bit on her thumb, shaking her head as she sniffed. Her eyes glisten with tears as she gasped before looking back at the camera. "I—I tried, I'm working on the game. Alone! My team disappeared when I needed them, and now they're gone!"
You're eyes widen, jaw slack as confusion started to plague your mind. "Disappear? Like, Johnny?"
"Yes! I don't—I don't know where they are right now. I've tried texting them, I've called them, zero! Zero answers! The company's launching an investigation about where my team went, why I'm the only one left!"
You flinched at her voice, sounding loud and angry yet so small. It's obvious it's taken a toll on her, yet you can't do anything except listen to her and try to support her in the best way you can.
"And get this," Yeri laughed maniacally. "The company still wants to me work on the game, alone! Can you fucking believe that shit? They're trying to find people who wants to work on the game but noo they're too busy gossiping about how Yeri's a whore, Yeri's a bitch! We can't work with her because she's too difficult!"
You frowned, yet confused at what she's saying. Yeri seems happy working there, everytime you went out for lunch or dinner she always praises how her company is so good and caring towards their employees, that even Wendy and Seulgi are complaining about how unfair it is.
"Yeri? Hey, what do you mean by that?" You asked gently, trying to calm her down as she's only one second from a mental breakdown. That seems to shut her up, her mouth agape yet no voice comes out, before she's quickly wiping her tears away. You sighed before leaning back on your chair, deciding to not push Yeri further out of her comfort zone. It seems like she's having a hard time, but you don't want to force her.
"No—no, forget about that. Let's just talk, I need your help."
"My help?"
Yeri nodded. "I need you to continue to play the demo game, (name)."
Your heart dropped to the ground, coughing to hide your uneasiness from Yeri. You did sent her the list of glitches, even so far as telling her you don't want to continue playing the game after the last incident. But now you're conflicted.
"I—I know you're hesitant to play it, but I've tried to fix the game as best as I can! Your feedback is actually helping me make things right, and I'm really grateful. But now that I'm the only one working on the game, I can't talk to others people about it to make it good."
Man, she really does know how to pull your heartstrings.
"So...can you play it again, (name)?"
You glanced nervously at Yeri, playing with your fingers as you're having a debate inside your head on what to do.
"Can't you just...send the demo to Wendy or Seulgi? I'm sure they'll be happy to play it. I mean more feedbacks are better, right?" You offered.
Yeri shook her head adamantly, her shoulders tense as she continued. "No! I can't, if the company knows I'm giving the demo to people then I'll be fired. It's supposed to be confidential and I broke the agreement when I gave you that demo."
You groaned, holding your head between your hands. Of course it's not that easy, you didn't even think about the consequences you'll receive when playing a game that's not even released yet. Taking a deep breath, you looked at Yeri before nodding.
"Alright, I'll do it."
You're hoping the game isn't so bad after she fixed it.
Pacing around in your room was not a good thing to do, especially to ease your nerves before playing that damn game. It's already loaded, the cutesy theme song playing in the background as you're having a breakdown before you play it. Yeonjun and Soobin invited you to go have drinks together, but you lied, saying you were busy hanging out with your family.
You felt bad, seeing as they're actually close to you now, but they reassured you that you could always join them on their nightly movie nights next Friday.
You took a mental note, wanting to actually join them because everyone seemed busy with work and other things.
"Okay!" You yelled loudly, punching the air repeatedly before sitting down, clicking the start button as the game loads. "I can do this! I'm not a pussy!"
Day 3
"Shit, it's only day three?!" You hissed.
Not having any time to complain, the game loads you to your dorm, reminding you to take classes to earn more coins and items. Everything seems...fine. Then again, you just started the game, so you're expecting a jumpscare midway playing the game.
Cautiously clicking from classroom to classroom, the task of doing mini games kinda made you relaxed. You're still tense, waiting for Hwayoung specifically to jump and surprise you.
But that didn't happen.
Instead, you're greeted with a new face, well two exactly.
A boy so tall that he could rival Mingi's or Yunho's height, with slicked back brown hair and an easygoing smile. Next to him is a girl you thought is an AI character, straight long black hair with a beauty mark under her mouth.
"Hey, fresh meat!"
The boy's deep voice boomed through your speaker, making you wince as you turned down the volume.
"Did you see a cat nearby? White with black spots and a purple collar?"
You, of course, wanted answered no. Thinking an option will show up, you're surprised the text box from Yunho's encounter popped up, making your hands hover on top of your keyboard instantly to type a response.
No, sorry. I didn't see any cat, just got here |
"Damn, good luck finding it, Karina."
"Oh shut up, Johnny!"
Johnny? Named after Yeri's friend who disappeared? You push the thought away, thinking of it as a coincidence. You've never even see the guy, why act so worried?
"Really sorry to bother you. My name is Karina, this is Johnny. If you see a cat with the same description please call us! We can't let the principal know."
No worries, but why can't the principal know? |
"Because the principal is a loser who doesn't like animals, so he'll call animal control to solve the problem."
"Johnny! Shut up or Seonghwa and Hongjoong will hear you!"
You hummed, curious as to why both of them are mentioned.
Why so scared? I think Seonghwa and Hongjoong are nice people |
"Oh, no one's denying that they're nice. They're just...very strict around what to do here."
"Rules are rules, and for them everyone has to follow it. If not you'll end up like—"
Johnny didn't get to finish his sentence before the game glitches out again, making both of them freeze as Johnny's voice paused every now and then. You anticipated this, trying to hope that nothing scary happened. Thankfully nothing did, as Johnny only continued as if nothing happened. Like his dialogue was cut.
"—Yeah, good guys. But really scary when someone's not up to standards. Well their standards."
You could see Karina rolling her eyes, making you giggle at their cute interaction.
"Whatever. It's nice meeting you, new kid. If you ever want to hangout with us, find us at the club rooms."
Sure! I'll be happy to come by |
"Great! Bye then, (name)."
"Peace out!"
There's the feeling of relief bubbling inside you, the interaction between Johnny and Karina made you a bit relaxed to face off any of the boys right now. Heaving a big sigh, you continued to play mini games and looking around the school.
Not encountering any of the boys, you suck up your fear as you debated who to meet first.
"Maybe I'll meet Yeosang first. I haven't seen him after the first encounter."
Confused as to which place you're visiting first, you picked the library, seeing as you've never actually visited the location before.
Surprise, surprise, Yeosang was actually already there. Surprisingly enough, he's smiling in your direction.
As if he's been waiting for you.
But you brushed it off as a coincidence. Yeosang's character beamed happily when he sees you, waving his hand as he tried to be quiet.
The scene changed as now you're sitting besides him near the window, the light perfectly illuminating his face, making him even more angelic.
"Hey, haven't seen you in a while. You okay?"
The text box popped up again, making you assume that maybe the system could change after a certain encounter. Changing from options to actually typing out the response. Then again, it's really impressive at how fast and human-like the response from the characters are, sometimes even fast enough to make you believe you're actually talking to a human.
Yeah, just...got busy with personal things |
"Well, that won't do. You're new here, relax for a bit. It's not like you have other stuff occupying your life."
You felt like it's a jab to your own real life, but you shrugged it off.
"Anyway, I realized we haven't spend that much time together. So, I was wondering if you want to stay here with me? I wasn't really studying, just wanted some alone time."
Alone time? Then am I intruding? |
"Nonsense, I'm inviting you right now. So, do you accept?"
Of course you agreed, wanting to increase your relationship with him since his percentage was still pretty low when you started. Maybe you'll meet San after this, remembering how the last time the heart didn't pop up for him.
Sure! I have nothing to do anyway |
For the next few minutes, you and Yeosang talked about vague topics, favorite foods, favorite animals; harmless stuff. But every now and then, you had a feeling that a few of the questions are very...weird and invasive.
"Where do you like to spend time out of school?"
"Have you ever dated before?"
"Do you like to sleep with stuffed animals?"
The last question made you glance at a few of the dolls on your bed, before lying to him since your real life persona should be different than the one inside the game.
"Hmm, interesting."
Was Yeosang's only answer before going back to innocent questions like before. The change of questions made your head dizzy as you're typing out what answers would suffice since you don't want to tell things in your real private life.
Yeosang stopped talking after the thirtieth question, seemingly frozen before smiling softly at you. You noticed how his eyes turned blank with no emotions before switching it up in the last second.
"Well, look at the time. I have a meeting with Hongjoong about club developments, so I guess this is goodbye."
No worries, Yeosang. I had a great time with you |
The heart finally popped up on top of his head, you predicting the percentage would at least be more than five percent, but the final number made you tilt your head in confusion.
37%
"Holy shit," You gawked. "From 2% to 37%?! That's wild."
As you're looking directly at the numbers, you didn't notice how Yeosang's eyes shifted away from you, lookinv around as if he could see the room your in. His face still smiling, before his eyes shifted back to you when he noticed you finally snapping out of your daze.
"I'll go now, (name). Goodbye."
With that, Yeosang was gone from the screen, leaving you with an empty screen. Remembering where exactly to meet San, you choose the gym as the next place. The only reason you chose that location is because of how buff he looks under his uniform.
"Can't believe I made that assumption just because of how broad his shoulders are," You grumbled.
Lo and behold, San was actually there. At first you thought he meant the school's gym, as in for sports and other school activities. But your mind is blown away when you notice an actual gym near the school area. And God must be somewhere laughing maniacally to himself as you saw how San is basically drenched in sweat, making the flimsy material of his top clung to his body like a second skin.
"(Name)! Hey, what's up?"
San smiled so brightly that you physically have to look away as if the sun just hits your eyes. "Focus, (name)! Don't be tempted by his cute smile!"
Hi, San! Nothing much, I have nothing to do so I was strolling around. I didn't know there's two gym's, what's up with that? |
"Oh! Yeah, I guess the school wanted to blow some of the money that they have, plus a lot of the students here wanted a real gym of sorts."
Still, pretty fancy for a school to have like two gyms |
"Yeah, I guess you could say that."
Time passed as you continued to have a conversation with San, having a great time as he's always so energetic and fun to be around with. Suddenly remembering of the items you have in your inventory, you decided to use it to San since the heart didn't pop up for him.
Hey, San! I have a gift for you |
It seems like San didn't expect you to say that to him, as his face turned bright red before he smiled sheepishly.
"A gift? You didn't have too!"
You clicked on your inventory, deciding on the cute teddy bear you got on your first day. Dragging the item from your bag, you placed it on San's character, resulting in him smiling widely as he now holds the teddy bear in his hands.
"A teddy bear! How cute, it even has a little bow. Thank you so much, (name)."
Suddenly the heart popped up, squinting your eyes to look closely as the percentage was shown to you.
58%
You let out a shocked laughter. "Damn, I didn't know the items were that helpful." You're conflicted whether or not the items were actually helping that much, or it's just the glitch happening again. In the end, your objective to raise your relationship status with San was already done.
"Um, (name)? Even though you're new here, I feel like you're perfect here. Like...you're the missing puzzle piece."
Weird thing to say after receiving a gift, but you'll go with it.
Come on, I'm not that important for you to call me a missing puzzle piece |
You noticed the pout on San's face, yet you saw how his face darkens for a second, as if your words annoyed him.
"Don't say that! A lot of us say that you're perfect! Even though you feel so far away, there's always a chance you'll be much, much closer to us."
"And it's starting," You groaned. Did the creepy dialogue really had to be amped up after Yeosang? It's as if the game knows these things scare and annoy you at the same time. But curiosity did peek out of your mind, wanting to know why exactly San phrased it that way.
What do you mean far? I'm right here |
"You know what I mean, (name)."
No? I really don't, it's like your saying I'm not physically here when I am |
"It's...complicated. I'm not supposed to even talk to you about this or Hongjoong will get mad. Just know that we're always here for you, and I really do hope in the future, we could be together."
You really do wanted his words to affect you as much as he intended too, but you're still creeped out by his choice of words that you can't help but grimace at the thought. There's a frown on your face as you noticed San looking quiet sad, almost changing from his hopeful expression.
What's wrong? |
"Nothing—just that, you seemed hesitant to be here with us."
Your frown deepened when he said that, as if he could look through your computer screen to see the facial expressions you pull. You glanced away for a while, head disappearing yet your eyes are still looking at him.
You might be hallucinating, but you really thought San's eyes seems to follow your every move, his eyes now off to the side where you disappeared. He's still standing like usual, but you noticed how his eyes are silently trained onto you.
Creepy.
Suddenly, you wanted to prove a theory that just popped up inside your head, actually thinking you're slowly loosing your mind over this game.
You silently grabbed your phone, pretending to scroll for a few seconds as you discreetly tried to look back and forth between San and your phone. Nothing suspicious happens, just that San's pout deepened as seconds passed by.
You needed proof. Especially considering what Yeosang said to you earlier.
You pressed Soobin's phone number, turning it on speaker as you waited. You acted nonchalant, tapping your fingers on the table whilst you still glanced at the screen. San's pout was gone, only replaced by a confused stare as he stands there.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Soobin! What's up?"
"Eh, not much. Why you callin?"
"Actually," You moved away, now sitting on your bed. "I wanted to invite you guys to my apartment! Maybe a movie night, you know?" You continued, voice loud enough so your target could still hear the conversation.
"Really? That would be awesome! I gotta ask Yeonjun first though, I don't know if he has plans or not."
You glanced at your computer screen, noticing San now looks tense and furious as he only stands there, as if he's forced to listen.
The change of emotions are really weird, since you haven't touched the game since your call. But you continued, wanting to see what happens.
"That's alright. We could have movie night next Friday, you could stay at my apartment."
"Ooh, like a sleepover!"
You laughed at his enthusiasm, "Yeah, basically like a sleepover."
The conversation continued on, before Soobin excused himself as he wanted to meet his friend in a few hours. Bidding goodbye, you ended the call, walking to your chair before sitting down.
You hummed to yourself, placing down your phone on the table as you typed your reply.
You're acting really weird, San |
You looked at him, hiding your wince as San's face didn't hold his signature dimpled smile. His eyes holds a certain anger, his jaw clenched in annoyance as his hands turned into fists.
"Why did you do that?"
His voice came out gruff, as if he's holding back a growl coming out of his throat. You decided to play innocent, tilting your head in confusion before typing back.
Do what? I just stood here, talking to you |
"(Name), please, don't do that. It hurts us when you do these kinds of things without thinking about our feelings."
A scoff came out of your mouth before you could stop it, feeling annoyed now.
Jeez, I didn't do anything! What are you guys even talking about? |
"Inviting those—"
You waited and waited for him to continue, but nothing happened. The sounds of crackling came out of your speaker for a few minutes, before it stopped. You saw San's desperate face still on your screen, pursing his lips as he looked away. You're wondering what's going on until Hongjoong appeared, smiling as he now stands next to San.
"Hello there, (name)! Funny meeting you here."
Thought you had a meeting with Yeosang about club developments? |
He seems surprised at how blunt you are, but his smile turned into a smug one as he placed a hand on San's shoulder.
"Ah, that. We're already done talking. Seonghwa is handling it now, so I wanted to grab San for a few minutes to...talk."
You frown, already feeling suspicious about how sudden Hongjoong appeared.
"But, hyung! I was—"
"We need to have a talk, San. The others are already waiting for us."
You grimaced at his tone, already feeling uncomfortable at how scary Hongjoong was now.
You guys should go, I need to meet with a few friends anyway |
"What friends—"
"San!"
You jump in surprise, eyes wide at Hongjoong's outburst. San closed his mouth before glaring at Hongjoong, to which the latter only glared back. They seemed to be having a conversation only with their eyes, the tense silence made you uneasy before it broke when San spoke first.
"Bye, (name)."
Yeah...bye |
In a matter of seconds, both if them disappeared from your screen. You groaned loudly at the headache forming inside your head, massaging your head as you closed your eyes.
"Can't this game be normal for one day?"
You quickly continued on day 3, wanting it to end fast enough so you'll be done for today. When night comes, you hurriedly exited the game, closing it before turning off your computer. You sighed, standing up as you walked out of your room.
"I need a drink."
"The coast is clear," Yunho sighed when he no longer felt your presence inside his body, his posture relaxing a little as he sat next to Mingi. "She's gone now."
"San, you almost crossed the line today."
"Almost? He acted way out of line for her to feel suspicious towards us!" Wooyoung screamed.
"Fuck you," San hissed. "Yeosang started first when he asked stupid questions."
"Oh, believe me, I know. I've already reprimanded him enough," Seonghwa darkly answers, crossing his arms as he stared at San. "Now, it's your turn."
"You all can't blame me!" San yelled, standing up from his seat as he slams the table with enough force. "You all heard her! She's inviting other people, other men, to her home!"
"No one's blaming you, hyung," Jongho sighed. "But we need to act normal after she didn't show up for so long. Do you want that to happen again?"
Jongho was only met with silence from San, who looked away as he shook his head. "No...I don't—we don't need that to happen again. I feel empty without her, I can't stand the emptiness. That's why I had to stop her!"
"We all do," Mingi shrugged. "But we have to be patient, especially if we want our plan to go well."
"I just," San sighed, slumping down to his seat. "I don't want her to be with anyone else besides us. We all felt the connection when her face showed up in our eyes. I want her to be here with us."
"We know, San," Hongjoong sighed. "It's not easy to only be able to watch her this way. So far yet so close. It's torture for only being able to see her for only a few hours, even minutes, for just one day."
"Thank God we're able to access her computer freely now," Wooyoung added. "Not interacting with her was torture. But I know I can't just watch her from a far in the long run, that's why we need to stick to our plan."
"Well, if we want to stick to the plan we can't just pinpoint and blame San here," Yeosang frowned. "All of the other trash needs to act as well."
Mingi and Yunho snorted at the way Wooyoung growled, slapping his back teasingly. "What? Got reminded of Hwayoung?"
"After the little stunt she pulled...I can't even be mad at Wooyoung for killing her," Seonghwa shrugged.
"Fuck her for scaring (name) like that! I can't believe she'll corrupt her own data like that," San growled, Wooyoung nodding along with him.
"Less trash to be bothered though, sounds good to me," Yeosang shrugged.
"We still need to keep an eye out on the new ones," Hongjoong hums, looking at a few folders on the table. The names are written on the cover, Hongjoong opening one of the folders, finding a picture of Hwayoung crossed out with a red marker. "They're a risk, but they were essential on pushing (name) back to playing the game."
"Pushing (name)? More like pushing her friend," Jongho laughed loudly, making the others smirk in union.
"Can't believe at how easy she complied to us."
"More like backstabbing. It's obvious she thinks her life is better than our darling," Yunho answered, the pet name slipping up from him making the others tease him.
"Can you blame her? We targeted her remaining friends," San hums. "Then again, she's really fucking stupid if she thinks we could make contact with anyone if they haven't played the game yet."
"Whatever, we'll deal with her later when our darling comes to our arms," Seonghwa huffed.
"Deal how?" Wooyoung smirked evilly, Mingi snickering alongside Jongho as they discussed the best way to torture said girl.
Seonghwa shrugged, yet the corners of his mouth are pulled into a maniac smile. "We'll see later. She's trash anyways compared to our darling."

Got a new job recently, which I love.
Sometimes I'm more or less alone in my dept for a few hours to closing. For the most part, it isn't bad, just a little boring. But, last time... this dude came in, maybe 40 mins to close, needing help with printing/faxing. He came right to the threshold of my cubicle area and leaned on/in it. (There's just a little swingy half-door that we usually keep open because we're usually getting up/out to help people anyways.)
I didn't love it, but I know that's not exactly unallowed, and he was a bigger dude, breathing really heavy from the climb up the stairs, so I didn't want to tell him he couldn't do that if it was helping him.
So, I was helping him at my station with a lot of time-consuming stuff, and he's talking me up. At first he asked me my horoscope (should've been a clue, but I have one of those zodiacs people are scared of and he also reacted badly to it lol), then he asked me about the girl who had my position before me and got irritated when I couldn't tell him where she was working now/when she left/etc. (Not that I would've anyways.)
Anyways, I'm holding down the fort, even as he's offering to teach me how to play chess, trying to see if I like karaoke, what kind of food I like, movies, etc., he eventually asks if he can sit in the empty chair--and I still don't like it, but it's been like 20 mins, he's still clearly having trouble regaining himself, and I feel like a dick to say no when there's literally an empty seat right there, so I say sure, even though I don't really want to.
So, fortunately, the machine FINALLY finished a few minutes after that. He paid and tried to TIP ME, which infuriated me--still does--I even said, "No thank you, this isn't a Dairy Queen" and refused even when he got pushy about his stupid dollar.
So there's this awkward silence and finally he shoots his shot, trying to get me to leave early to go to dinner and karaoke and was a little belligerent about taking no for an answer, like he kept on asking, but fortunately our night custodian started his rounds before close and I think that helped get the guy out of there because he could see I wasn't all alone... He was also intermingling his probing Qs with me with racist comments, so I think the custodian being black shook him up a little. So eventually he left, and I think he tried to wait around in the foyer, but our security guard shooed him along.
ANYWAYS. It's been a long time since I've had a front-facing job like this, but I remember this happening a lot at my last one, too, with the same type of dude. Old enough to be my dad, racist, bad hygiene (he smelled really bad, but I wear a mask at work so it was cut down a little, I think) and really presumptuous. Conveniently ignoring my engagement ring (which I was fidgeting with the whooooole time because I was super nervous). The fact that he was asking about an old employee makes me think he knew he wasn't allowed to be in my space or really be asking to sit in the cubicle, either. Why are these types of dudes like this, ESPECIALLY in a workplace environment? Where do they get off? It's not worth wondering, but I can't help but wonder, you know?
(Oh and I pointed him out to my other coworkers who were on the clock in the other dept and I'm planning on letting my supervisor know the next time our shifts overlap.)

I think I should bring up a kinda shitty interaction a coworker and I had with a 3rd party vendor to my supervisor/manager. I didn't think much of it at the time, and am now on my "weekend," but it pissed me off then, and thinking about it now...I think this vendor wasn't listening to us bc I wasn't a man, and coworker is Asian.
So, asshole vendor in to calibrate some conditioners we use to add moisture to specimens. Problem is, one of the conditioners had water pooling inside the door/door seal (we assumed) and when it was opened first thing in the morning after sitting for 12+ hours, it would essentially spit a liter or so of water at you.
My coworker (an engineer from Japan) was trying to explain what was going on to the vendor. I saw he was having a hard time with the guy and walked over to corroborate on what the conditioner was doing. We were getting blown off by the vendor, who tried to say it was just condensation on the door, when we were saying it was pooling water in the seal. We tried to explain that the identical conditioner that was right next to it would not do that, that condensation was only causing drips, not a huge puddle. They were running the same, at the same set temps and humidity, both were level, so why was one pooling and spitting water and the other not, asshole?? (He got snippy with me, and told me that "I don't care about that one (that works properly), we're talking about this one. And this one doesn't have a problem, it's just condensation."
Later, I saw a different engineer and a maintenance tech talking with the vendor, and he was being very accommodating and calm, not blowing off either guy. It looked like they managed to convince him that there was a problem (and in looking deeper, they found some issues that might have contributed to the conditioner water-vomiting).
Now, second engineer and maintenance tech are very white. Asshole 3rd party is very white . I am half-Korean but can pass as white, but am a woman. Japanese engineer has very good English, but a definite accent that can trip some people up. I'm actually not sure if other engineer/maintenance weren't getting pushback bc I wasn't close enough to hear them, but body language was much more open than with us.
I think I'll let someone know on Friday on what happened, though it being three days after the fact, and the fact it was a 3rd party, might not make much of a difference.

The reunion
Wayne had been coming to work as usual during the week Eddie was missing, confident that he'd show up fine, returning from an improvised trip he and the older boys from the club decided to go on. Nevermind the fact that Eddie hadn't called; he'd never failed to let Wayne know where he was before.
He knew Eddie wouldn't have killed that girl, maybe someone just broke into their trailer—
A full week after finding her body in the trailer, he got a call from the hospital, saying that Eddie had been admitted during the night. He spent the rest of that day as well as the night there. The next morning, the press announced his kid's innocence — to some people's surprise, apparently, if the nonsensical noise he heard from the TV was anything to go by.
They went on about a man called Peter Ballard, obsessed with the Creel murders and determined to recreate them. He chose their targets, stalked them, and killed them a few days later. Chrissy Cunningham happened to be most vulnerable when she decided to reconnect with an old middle school acquaintance.
Wayne didn't pay much attention to the TV after that. He made the calls he had to in order to stay with Eddie in the hospital, but he'd still have to work some nights. Not many, but some.
He met the people who claimed to have helped Eddie, and despite the insane story they all told him, he found he believed them. Hopper coming back from the dead — or wherever he was taken to, he supposed — and confirming it all helped. A little.
The Henderson kid was there as often as he could, often doing his homework next to Eddie's bed and talking about it as if Eddie would reply to him at any moment, tired of all the science talk. Wayne worried about the kid, but he didn't know what to tell him, especially not when the first thing he did was hand over Eddie's necklace.
Dustin was there. With him, the Wheeler girl had said. Wayne couldn't imagine what that must have been like.
Eddie had been admitted ten days ago. This was the third night Wayne had to go to work since then. He'd been doing his best to ignore the guilty looks as much as the disbelieving ones, and so far, no one had tried talking about it all in his vicinity. Now, he knew people were talking elsewhere, but as long as he didn't hear it, it should be fine.
Wayne shouldn't be here. He knew that, his coworkers knew that, his boss knew that, but apparently he didn't have a choice.
The call came close to 4 am, about two hours before the end of his shift. One of the supervisors, a man he could never remember the name of given how rarely he saw him, called out for him, saying there was someone on the phone.
"It's from Hawkins General," he clarified softly once Wayne was close enough. "Didn't say much, but I assume it's about your nephew."
Wayne was quick to thank him and walk into the office. He picked up the phone with a deep breath.
"Hello? This is Wayne Munson."
"Mr. Munson," a woman answered, sounding too chirpy for the hour. "It's Linda." Right, Eddie's nurse every other night. She was one of the nicest ones he'd met so far, always a kind word and gentle touches where his nephew was concerned. "You might want to get here soon, Eddie just woke up."
She had promised to call him if anything happened, personally. Wayne's heart was racing, at first for the fact she was calling at all, but then for the fact that Eddie had woken up. She spoke some more, though he wasn't sure he absorbed much of it.
He hung up with a promise to be there as soon as possible. He spoke briefly to his supervisor before the man was waving him off.
"Just go, I got this."
He never drove so quickly in his life.
Linda was waiting for him at the front desk, her smile widening when she saw the state he arrived in.
"I told you he was tired, Mr. Munson," she said, turning to walk further into the hospital without preambles. "You could have taken your time driving."
Wayne shook his head even though she couldn't see it. "You said he asked for me? No way in hell I'm keepin' him waiting."
Linda didn't try making small talk after that, leading the way to Eddie's room. Not that Wayne needed directions after spending most of the last ten days here, but the sentiment was nice.
She opened the door gently, letting Wayne step in first. Eddie seemed to be asleep, but it was clear he had woken up at some point; the thin blanket covered only half of his uninjured leg, the other slightly elevated with a pillow. It looked like Eddie had tried to move around. His left arm was in a sling, probably to keep him from stretching the wound on his chest and shoulder.
"Let me know if you need anything," Linda said from the door.
Wayne nodded absently as she closed the door. He moved the chair closer to Eddie's bed, the scraping noise enough to make his nephew's face scrunch up.
"Hey, kid." He kept his voice soft, not wanting to disturb Eddie if he wasn't awake but letting him know he was there just in case.
"Wayne?"
God, the kid's voice was rough. He gently patted Eddie's forearm, avoiding the bandages, and kept his hand there.
Eddie's eyes fluttered open, face creasing in drowsiness and confusion. "You…?"
"I'm here, Eddie," he reassured. He was probably smiling a little too wide for what Eddie was used to, but he didn't really care. Wayne helped him drink some water from a cup left on his bedside before asking, "How are you feeling?"
Eddie moved to shrug a little, but grimaced in pain. "Achy," he said, with a scrunched up expression that told the discomfort was a little deeper than that. "What happened?"
Wayne shook his head. There wasn't much point in talking about it when Eddie looked on the verge of sleep once more. If Eddie had actually forgotten the circumstances of his injuries, he guessed having the rest of his little monster slaying group around would help more than Wayne talking about it could.
"We'll talk when I'm sure you won't forget it."
Eddie hummed, nodding slowly. "Stayin'?" He asked, slipping into an accent that didn't come out often. His eyes slipped close, head slightly turned to him. "Missed you."
"I missed you too, kid." He squeezed the arm he was still holding. "I'm not goin' anywhere, go back to sleep."
Wayne made himself as comfortable in the hospital chair as he could, not once letting go of his nephew. The kid seemed relaxed, though that might be the work of the painkillers; Wayne had been told the state Eddie arrived in, and he guessed the painkillers would be needed for a while.
Minutes passed in silence, as Wayne watched Eddie breathe. It had become routine, making sure his nephew was still there. It was because of that routine that Wayne saw his face contorting into a frown right before he groaned.
"Eddie?" He asked, leaning closer to him. "Are you okay? What's wrong?"
"Thinkin'," he mumbled, slurring with sleep. "Not goin' to the concert next week, huh?"
"That's, uh, that's tomorrow, actually." Eddie let out a questioning noise that sounded awfully confused. "It's…" He trailed off, glancing backwards at the clock on the wall. "It's almost 5 am on April 7th, kid."
Eddie was staring at him, confusion clear in his eyes despite the low light. He looked away after a moment, turning his gaze forward.
"Oh," he whispered. He took a deep breath — as deep as he could, all things considered. "Okay."
Wayne couldn't help but raise a brow at his non-reaction. Eddie had been excited for this concert for weeks, going on rants about the concert whenever he lay eyes on the tickets that Wayne was safekeeping. Metallica and Ozzy. Eddie had learned a song or another from one of them, Wayne couldn't tell which one. He'd spent so much time practicing it…
"Don't look at me like that," Eddie mumbled, frowning. "Can't do shit about it now." He pulled his arm free of Wayne's hold and slowly rubbed his eyes. "Should've just—"
"Not been attacked?"
Eddie froze. So he did remember. He slowly turned to look at Wayne, who wanted to grimace as the movement seemed to stretch the bandage on Eddie's neck. His eyes were wide, looking afraid in a way Wayne hadn't seen since Lauren brought him over at 7 years old.
"I—I didn't…" His breathing picked up, and his hand pressed against the bandage on his chest. "I didn't do it." He shook his head, grimacing. "I wouldn't—"
I wouldn't hurt them.
Eddie couldn't finish his sentence, but the desperation in his eyes made it clear what he wanted to say. Wayne knew he didn't do it, that he would never hurt anyone. He knew who the actual murderer was.
"Eddie, son," he grabbed his hand, one of the few areas free of bandages. "I know, okay?" Eddie's gaze was fleeting between his eyes, looking for a catch he wouldn't find. "I need you to breathe, Eddie, as deep as you can."
It took a couple of minutes and many repeated words before Eddie was breathing easily once more. He was frowning, clenching his hand around Wayne's fingers.
"There you are," Wayne said softly. "Your new gaggle of friends made sure I knew what was going on."
Eddie's expression didn't change, but he nodded. "You… You believe 'em?"
"Got no reason not to." He shrugged. "Hopper coming back from wherever he was sure helped."
Eddie opened his mouth to question it, most likely, but all that came out was a tired sigh. "Sure, whatever."
Chuckling, Wayne patted Eddie's head, making a bigger mess of the kid's hair. He was sure that Eddie would demand a wash soon.
"Get some rest, son, I'll be here."
Eddie hummed and, surprisingly obedient, closed his eyes. He moved a little to adjust himself on the bed and was out almost as soon as he got comfortable.
It wasn't long before Wayne fell asleep as well, more tired than he'd realized after a nearly full shift.

the chilly night air swallows you whole as you step out of the family mart, the tense conversation you had a few days ago still ringing in your mind. that friday,  kuroo, your lovely coworker, had taken your hands in his and confessed to you how he felt and his desire to pursue a relationship with you. unfortunately for the both of you, you ran off, fearful and anxious due to everything that had and could happen.
you like kuroo, you truly do, but the fear of getting into a relationship where you’d have to place such an immense amount of trust on your significant other to be there for you and accept you for yourself was awfully paralyzing. your past relationships were all notably dull, plagued with lingering fears of their true feelings and possible discomfort with the physical affection that you so dearly craved but did not know how to ask for.
and as much as you like kuroo, you miss him (and his grossly cheesy jokes) even more. it’s only been a few days, but each time you bump into him at the office, he promptly turns and talks to another coworker as if he hadn’t even seen you. at meetings, he deliberately ignores your attempts at eye contact and doesn’t pitch in conversations that you’re either actively engaged in or started.
guilt continues to pool in your stomach as you mindlessly walk, wondering if those fears of really trusting the one that you could potentially love to love you just as you did were really worth missing out on a potentially loving relationship and more importantly, losing your friendship with kuroo tetsurou.
was sacrificing the yakitori trips after work to vent about your supervisors, vending machine breaks to share work gossip, and nighttime strolls by the shopping district worth protecting yourself?
you shook your head, knowing the glaringly obvious answer to the question as you chuckle at your foolishness and blink, suddenly aware of your surroundings as you find yourself face to face with kuroo’s apartment door, stunned by your hand already being raised and ghosting the doorbell. it was as if your legs had gone into autopilot while your mind was preoccupied by your guilt about what had happened with kuroo.
you sigh, recalling the screaming of a close friend after telling them about what had happened, trying your hardest to suppress the fact that throughout your years of working with kuroo, he inevitably became your rock and a close friend that you learned to depend on. during your first few presentations, just briefly meeting his eyes brought enough assurance to overcome the flurry of nerves in your stomach. and despite all the layers of fear, confirming knew the answer to your earlier question.
losing kuroo tetsurou was not worth it.
after a moment’s hesitation, you ring the doorbell, immediately staggering back as you see kuroo swiftly fling the door open with a frenzied look in his eyes.
“y/n,” he breathes, blinking for a moment as he rubs his eyes, almost as if he is trying to confirm that you are in fact standing in front of him, “what- what are you doing here?”
“i just- i need to see you and tell you that i’m sorry, so fucking sorry. i’m sorry for running away, i’m sorry for ruining our friendship, and i’m sorry for everything,” you choke out, “i didn’t want to lose you and so i got really fucking scared about the possibility of getting into a relationship and having to really trust you with accepting me and everything, and i got really in my head so i just-“
you suck in a deep breath, losing the momentum from earlier as you scramble to find a way to salvage your unfinished verbiage disguised as a sentence.
“ran away,” kuroo finishes for you, chuckling dryly as he heaves his shoulder up. you wince a little and nod, unable to bring yourself to lift your head up and meet his piercing eyes despite the lack of animosity in his voice. you’d imagine for him to say it almost sarcastically, yet there’s a tone of sympathy and a hint of sadness.
“fuck, y/n,” kuroo runs a hand through his hair, averting his eyes and cracks the knuckles of his free hand “i’ve been such an asshole,” you swiftly lift your head up in confusion, wondering if you misheard as you furrow your eyebrows, “sorry, what?”
“i was such an asshole to you yesterday,” kuroo grimaces, “and the day before that. i was so upset about the fact that you left and i kept ignoring you when i didn’t even give any thought to why you reacted like that, especially because your reason is completely valid and you’ve even- fuck you’ve even told me before about your insecurities about shit like this.
oh my god. y/n i’m so fucking sorry for pushing you when you’re uncomfortable with relationships- i got carried away and too caught up in my own emotions when i realized you liked me too, oh my god. i’m so fucking sorry i shouldn’t have done that. if you’d like, i’ll try to get over everything and we can go back to how we used to be,”
“no, tetsurou, that’s not what i’m here to tell you,” you cut in, shaking your head and sighing in exasperation as you clasp your hands together tightly. the two of you finally look each other in the eye as kuroo takes his turn to watch you in utter confusion.
“i’m here,” you began, slowly heaving regulatory breaths as you continued, “because i want to take that leap of faith. i want to be with you, and i don’t want to keep doubting people. i don’t think it’ll be easy, but i want to be with you, tetsurou. i want to run to you, and i want to be assured that if- when i do, you’ll be there to catch me,”
kuroo blinks owlishly as he lets your words sink in, a slow smile spreading on his face as he opens his arms subtly, waiting for permission. you nod, rushing into his arms as he wraps his around your body, burying his face into the crook of your neck as he chuckles, “i’ll catch you, i’ll always catch you,”
“can i?” kuroo envelops your cheek with his palm, thumb brushing your lip as his gaze practically pierces through you.
“yeah,” you respond in a hushed whisper. kuroo wastes no time, immediately closing the gap and pressing his lips against yours. your hands find their place against kuroo’s chest as one of his palm remains on your cheek and the other slides to your waist.
as you two pull away from the kiss, you still remain in the position. his whole body practically envelopes yours as you glance up and hold eye contact with him with foolishly tender smiles mirrored on both of your faces.
“again, i want this. i want to be with you, and i’ll put in the work for that. we can take this slow and you can set the pace so that you’re comfortable. i won’t push you and we can continue to talk to each other honestly like this to figure us out. i’ll catch you, so run to me alright darling?” kuroo whispers, caressing your cheek softly before moving his palm to the back of your head for you to bury your face into his sturdy chest.
you’re hesitant at first, but you gradually sink into his arms, reveling in the warmth, “promise?”
kuroo blinks owlishly as he lets your words sink in, a slow smile spreading on his face as he opens his arms subtly, waiting for permission. you nod, rushing into his arms as he wrap his around your body, burying his face into the crook of your neck as he chuckles, “i’ll catch you, i’ll always catch you,”
you sink into his arms, reveling in the warmth, “then i’ll run to you,”

Annoying Gothic Prick
Angel Torres x Reader
Tumblr media
Notes: i guess i sounded very petty last time. The Ao3 fics are amazing. Go read them. But damn there needs to be more hype on tumblr. Maybe i m obsessed maybe i´m hyperfixating. Maybe i `m maybeline?! Okay ill stop. But please nope fandom write more. I’ll read everything. Love, Mai :D
Warning: bad writing, english isnt my first language, some spoilers i guess
You have been working for Fry`s Electronics for half a year now. You didnt mind the job at all. The customers were mostly friendly and the payment was alright. Obviously it could have been a lot better , but you were never someone to complain about that. You truly didnt mind going there every morning and being one of the last employees to leave in the evening. You truly, wholeheartedly liked your job, right?
It was Friday afternoon when you walked into fry´s. You just had a small meal at the diner next door across the parkinglot. You spend almost every lunch break there. The lady who owned it, already knowing your face and greeting you friendly every time you entered her place.
„ heeey! Welcome back!“ Nessie, your coworker and only friend at work, screamed running to you. She was never that excited. She was definitely planning something. Most of the time she was standing in one corner of the store ignoring the customers and playing animal crossing on her phone.
„ you wont believe what happend when you were gone“
You rolled your eyes. You could already imagine what had happened. A customer's pants had slipped down, someone had tried to steal a huge high-tech TV set, or Angel had gotten on Nessie's nerves again with stories of world conspiracies.
Angel.
Angel was the bane of your existence.
You did really like your job. In the beginning at least. But after your first few weeks you got promoted and changed to a different department in the store. And your supervisor wasnt as motivated and friendly as the one you had in the beginning. Your supervisor and therefore boss who was able to let you do everything he wanted, was a overworked, constantly rambling conspiracy theory believer. Angel.
You truly didnt believe you hated him. You were just constantly annoyed and irritated by him. He practically ignored you for the first week or so and then started suddenly interrupting you while you worked. You just knew he didnt like you. And so you decided you weren’t gonna like him.
„Angel for sure has a crush on someone.“
„What?“
Nessie laughed. „Oh so nowwww your interested. You were staring at him again. If i didnt know that you hated him, i could assume you were kinda into him.“
„ Nessie! Shut up.“ you whisper shouted and nudged her arm. „ I could never like him. He is so load and obnoxious, talking about his stupid alien shit and why is he always doing that thing with his hair when he is nervous. Its so dumb. And i mean look at his shirt it’s definitely to small for him. He is probably just wearing that to show of his massive bizeps.“
you knew you were the one who was rambling now. But you couldn’t stop. You just loved to talk about how annoying he is.
Angel saw you guys staring at him. He looked irritated and was doing that thing with his hand again. He would do it everytime he got nervous. He rubs with his hand through his bleached hair always making a mess out of it.
„ Can you two please stop standing in the middle of the store gossiping and go back to your work.“ He teased. „ Or do you wanna share your story ?“
Nessie gave me a wink and said something like „go talk to him about your problem with his shirt“, before she walked away into another isle probably playing on her phone again.
„ and do you wanna tell me something gorgeous ?“ he fake flirted with you. You cringed at the nickname, turning around he was now standing next to you, leaning on a refrigerator that was on sale. He was taller than you, his body towering over you. You looked up only to regret it instantly. He did have a pretty face. Even you could see that. You took a step back almost crashing into a customer who was looking rather stressed. You looked back at Angel, who wasnt looking as confident anymore. Before you began walking away going to your work, you made sure to answer his question quickly.
„Nope“
Several hours later, the sun was beginning to set, you already talked to the last customer. The afternoon was really quiet. Normally fridays were full of people and it was loud and hectic. Today was different, there wasnt a lot going on. Just some minor Angel incidents. How Nessie always called them. One happend shortly after your arrival. You bumped into him while hiding from a creepy old dude who wanted to ask you on a date. An hour later you saw him illegally observe the security camera of two customers that you saw in here the other day. You had a small fight over it, but you didnt really had a chance against his absurd alien arguments. The last thing was more about Nessie, she told you about her theory again that Angel definitely had a crush on someone. She told you how he was staring into the distance and getting all nervous when she asked him about it.
You couldn’t really say that the idea of Angel having a crush didnt make you a little angry. It was confusing. You couldn’t stand him, right? Him with his stupidly handsome face. And that small smirk. And his soothing voice telling unbelievable story’s . And his dumb muscular body and…
stop! You could not stand this man. That’s how its always been. It should stay this way.
He wouldn’t like you back anyway.
The store was closing in half an hour. You were beginning to clean up some things and began walking towards the break room. The room was already dark besides the lighting of the drinks dispenser. Nobody was spending time in here besides in the lunch break time. But the room was to small for all the employees so most of them spend their lunch break rather outside or the diner next to fry’s.
„What are you doing in here?“ of course it was him. You weren’t gonna turn around. You headed towards your locker and grabbing your clothes and purse.
„ you know, i actually wanted to change out of these work clothes here“ you explained while pointing down at the shirt you were wearing. „ but now that you are here, i can forget about that.“
„Oh you know i wouldn’t mind at all“ Angel was grinning. And you started to get angry. You couldn’t believe it. Why was he bothering you all the time. You just wanted to go home and not think about the man for like three hours. You could feel your body getting heated.
„ of course you wouldn’t.
But you know what, i would rather get eaten by a shark, or spend a day in a room full of spiders or i dont know climb the Mount Everst , than have you see me change out of my shirt.“ and again you were the one rambling and talking stupid things. Why didnt you have some better shit in your mind than that come back.
„i can’t believe i never noticed it before“
he was walking closer towards your locker. His hand in his hair again. So was he nervous?! Why would he be nervous…
„Noticed what?“
„ i really didnt believe Nessie at first, but you do like me.“
„ What the hell are you talking about. You are the most annoying gothic prick.“
You truly didn’t had the best responses. But your brain just seemed to stop working whenever he was around.
„ You know you are kinda hot when you’re angry. This could potentially be one of the reasons i love to piss you off.“
You really didnt care about changing anymore. This was stupid. He was playing with you. Nessie probably gave him twenty bucks to say something annoying like that to you. You would definitely kill her later. She was probably sitting in front of the door laughing or hiding somewhere else. You grabbed your stuff and went towards the exit door. On your way out you made sure to bump into his shoulder, not caring at all. You felt tears forming in your eyes. You weren’t gonna cry in front of him.
Angel noticed how your chest rose and fell a lot quicker than before.
„Honestly fuck you, Angel.“
He grabbed your arm towering over you. You were looking into his eyes. He was suddenly very close. Has he always been that tall? You could smell his aftershave and the nicotine of his last smoked cigarette. He was leaning down. Almost whispering.
„Would you?“
You definitely didnt plan to ever do what you did next. You definitely hadn’t thought about it every time you wanted to shut him up. You closed the distance between your lips and he moaned into the kiss. His hands were grabbing your waist as yours where grabbing onto his short hair. „ i hate you“ you where kissing him again. „ i hate you more“ you gasped while he kissed down your neck holding you tightly against his chest. He was lifting up your shirt and tossing it on the floor while you were grabbing on his biceps and kissing his lips again.
It was a full on make out session and you weren’t sure what would have happend afterwards until someone opened the door. Nessie was standing in front of you both. Angel jumped back and mumbled something like „ she was just about to change „ as he left with a red face and tighter pants. Nessie was just laughing and clapping.
„ I fucking knew it“

Looks like my first true post is going to be a frustration rant.
So I work in a very male industry, and I'm male passing despite my bookishness.
Ugh, there is a lot of baggage here, so let me start from basics.
As a white guy, racists see you as part of the ingroup. You must also be racist because all these minorities are suppressing the white folk, and as such, all white folk are too scared to reveal their racist attitudes.
What this means is that racists only openly reveal themselves, as opposed to badly hiding their bigotry, when the object of their frustration leaves the room.
Example. I was working in the fuselage, and there was a black man and a couple of white guys. The second the black man was out of earshot, the racist man in the group did the look.
Anyone who passes as part of the ingroup will know what I am talking about. Suddenly, there is a change in the atmosphere as the bigot thinks they are free of view by the outgroup.
Suddenly, it's testing jokes (insults) at the expense of the outgroup. Then, especially if no one laughs, straight up hateful bigotry. It will go on as long as the outgroup isn't present and the "traitors to the ingroup" don't reveal themselves.
Unfortunately, despite my very liberal state, blue collar work is filled with the uneducated and thus ignorant. There are plenty of people who might consider themselves allies in that they disagree with the bigots on a fundamental level, but they don't act because they'd never stop. At no point would they reach the end of reporting people.
You feel surrounded, drowned by it. A match against a hurricane only moments away from violence if you let your guard down.
You are in effect in the same position as the bigot. They fear the repercussions of their bigotry from "the new order" while you fear it from the old.
They find it "easy" to identify the ingroup because they assume everyone "like them" is the ingroup. Whereas potential allies are constantly giving the same looks at eachother as the bigots, trying to sus out who is in and who is out.
It's only when an overt confrontation happens that the allies appear, and mostly in secret afterwards.
I started openly shouting Bible verses back at Christian, who would not stop harassing me, that contradicted his world view. Things that would make it very clear to those who are, at the very least not cult like to a lie they've been sold about their religion, where I stood on his behavior. One person representing the allies approached me afterwards and said "we agree with you if it makes you feel better."
I don't know if it's a guy thing or a generational trauma thing, but the general attitude is "that's just Dave, he won't change so why bother."
All this to bring me to the point I wanted to talk about at the start.
I'm part of the outgroup. I'm "part of the alphabet club," aroace. As such I sympathize with the LGBT community and view slights on them as slights on me, because they are.
I've delt with the bigots before, and typically it's at a distance so I can just turn up my music. Lately though it's been right in my face, from literally every direction. My immediate coworkers, the folks in the areas next to me, the folks on my way to other places, people in the cafeteria at the same time as me, MY DIRECT SUPERVISOR.
These ass hats I work with directly have the gual to complain about other people fighting against bigotry and hate when I had to talk to the manager on their behalf because they felt belittled by being told "alright, back to work" after our first break meetings.
I want to dissolve into the furniture. To just escape the needless hatred of ignorant people who refuse to learn.
One of them told me he just "couldn't read books" as they were too taxing.
He is one of the most competent men I have ever worked with in 15 years in this industry. Yet, despite his own disability (tourette syndrome), and despite being made fun of for it behind his back, he is one of the most hateful people I have met.
You are the diversity hire dipshit.
Let me evaporate and dream no more. Let me escape the burden of other people's thoughts.

For the Sake of a Smile --Ch. 10/Short
Peeps, I have a migraine, but I really want to post this you guys as I do every Saturday. So, I'm not putting the energy into doing my usual formatting, but I promise the chapter is just a great as always. (I wrote it long before the migraine hit this morning, and @avellanas-nutty-empire edits make it 10x better)
So, without further delay, Chapter 10 and Short 10; all in one post!
(Will be posted to AO3 later; I don't have the focus to work on the html tags for all the italics)
Professor Dantlion looked like an average demon; cheerful, friendly, plain brown hair and eyes, and seemed approachable enough - if it wasn't for the fact he was the teacher's supervisor and had a dark aura just…hanging around him.
Or maybe that was your own paranoia.
"I had a meeting with Lord Sullivan," He started after formalities. "And it seems you were never actually initiated as Babyls Faculty."
You blinked, confused. Sullivan hadn't mentioned anything about being 'initated' when he announced he found a job for you. What did that even entail?
"Oh, don't worry!" He tried to reassure, seeing your face pale.  "We're not as archaic as Jackapo's initiations. No blood rituals or life-or-death fights."
"Oh, okay," You squeaked. Your thoughts hadn't even drifted towards it being that dark or gruesome.
"I know you're not technically a teacher, but Lord Sullivan asked for me to be your supervisor, so we'll be taking you out to the Brawl Inn tonight."
"Wait, what?"
----
"It'll be fun, sweetheart," Sullivan tried to reassure you when you ran to his office after Dali left the library.
You however, were not reassured. You continued to pace the span of his office.
"Fun? I-I’ve never had fun at any after work gathering in my life. All my coworkers are demons while I am human, or have you forgotten?! Then you add alcohol into the mix which only spells certain disaster! I still can't remember much from that one drink at Walter Park! And that was one! With just Balam and Kalego! God, what if Raim and Momonoki finally corner me for girl talk?"
"There's no need for such language," Sullivan chimed, sounding vaguely disapproving - though you didn't really hear him.
"What if my drunk ass admits everything? Can you imagine how bad that could end; not just about me and Balam, I mean everything, dad! The fact I'm human, or that Iruma's human! It could not only end with my death, but his too, and--"
Sullivan stopped your frantic pacing with a gentle hand on your shoulder, his dark eyes meeting yours from behind his glasses.
"Nothing is going to happen, my dear. You'll be safe. I not only trust you, but the other staff as well. You'll see how devoted the teachers are, and the fact that Dali accepted you as one of his own proves that he believes you are worth this honor."
You took a few deep breaths; hoping, wishing what he said was true. Sullivan knew them best, he knew what was at stake. You could trust him on this at least, right?
"And I just love it when you call me dad!" Sullivan broke the moment as he quickly pulled you into a hug with a happy squeal. "You really do see me as your father, just like Iruma sees me as his grandfather! Oh, I'm just so happy!"
"Really?" You half-heartedly complained at the sudden change of topic as well as mood, though you didn't fight the embrace. Sullivan's open paternal affection would always be something you secretly cherished.
And maybe a change is what you needed.
"Absolutely, my sweet little princess! You two mean so much to me! And I would never, ever, put you in a situation you couldn't handle."
With a groan, you wrapped your arms around his slender frame and allowed yourself to relax and accept the comfort he offered. Because considering how much he fussed over Iruma, and in a way yourself as well, you had to admit you had to believe him. Which meant you weren't getting out of the initiation, no matter how nervous you were.
But, if other teachers were going to be there… would Balam be there too? You knew he would protect you, but you also worried about everything else that came with being around him.
----
"Kalego!"
The demon in question looked up from his book to Balam, who looked as excited as he sounded. Which - considering the giant demon had been distracted from his grading by his phone, Kalego presumed it was something you had done or said; per the norm, nowadays.
"Hmm?"  Kalego grunted in acknowledgement as he continued his work. Spending the evening with Balam holed up in the Prep room sounded much more appealing than attending the teachers' celebration for another successful Harvest Festival. Calming instrumental music was drifting from the radio, and he had found a rather interesting blend of wine to sip on after sharing a decent meal with one of the few people in the Netherworld that didn't annoy him.
Even if Balam's interest was focused on you to the point Kalego doubted the other demon realized how much his time was spent either talking to, or about you. But he was such a love-sick hellhound that even Kalego couldn't be annoyed by his antics. It was as adorable as it was pitiful, even to him.
And to be completely fair, he did enjoy seeing his comrade happy. You were rather close to being added to the short list of people Kalego could tolerate after work too.
As soon as he figured out the conundrum that surrounded you and your son.
"Dali is going to be her supervisor," Balam explained, furiously typing on the small keyboard of his phone. "And he plans on formally initiating her into her role as Librarian tonight."
That caught Kalego's full attention. Not only did Sullivan relinquish that kind of authority over his daughter, but also allowed Dali to oversee your rite? That was a surprising turn of events. He had figured the chairdemon would have insisted on having that privilege for himself. But…
"Tonight?" Kalego asked with a frown. "Aren't the other teachers celebrating the end of the Harvest Festival?"
Balam's excitement faded, and Kalego could almost see the forlorn expression behind his mask as Balam's broad shoulders slumped. "I know you didn't want to go, but…"
No, he hadn't. Kalego hated social events with a passion. And Balam had reluctantly decided to stay with him versus attending the event, mainly because of his own social awkwardness. But now that Balam knew you would be there, and the fact it would also be your initiation rite…
The taller demon gave Kalego a pleading look, silently begging for him to change his mind. Kalego cursed internally. Devi, he didn't have a choice at this point.
"I suppose we should go then," He conceded with an aggrieved sigh. "Even if just to protect your future intended from the rest of the faculty."
The tease caused Balam to blush heavily, far too flustered to even stammer a defense. What Balam saw in you, Kalego couldn't understand himself. But the fact he was interested in you, inherently meant to Kalego you were worth protecting - if even just for Balam's sake.
Why the demon couldn't find someone who could protect themself was beyond him. And why you were so weak compared to your father and son, Kalego was determined to figure out.
-----
Brawl Inn was a small building in the wasteland not far from the town of Babyls. You dismounted Podargos, giving the nightmare a loving pat on the muzzle before tying her to the fence where there was fresh water and feed (fresh ground meat and other things you did not wish to think about) already set out by the Inn staff.
Sullivan assured you no matter what state you were in later, Podargos would get you home. And you had to believe him, she always seemed gentle and sure of herself. She was the first you had ridden, and never needed any correction as soon as you told her 'home.'
Still, your nerves twisted your stomach as you stood outside - trying to psych yourself up.
This wasn't going to be like back in the human realm. Your demonic coworkers were far better than your human ones had been. Oddly enough, they weren't as vicious or cutthroat, or prone to backstabbing. You vaguely remembered Kalego's comment that forcing others to drink was against their rules.
You didn't know if that meant subtle challenges as well or not, but it was still reassuring.
Yet here you were, unable to open the door and enter. You could hear boisterous talking and laughter coming from inside.
Was Balam already here? He said he could have escorted you, but admitted he also had to convince Kalego to attend, so you had reassured him you could manage. You imagined he was going to have a hard enough time with Kalego.
The sound of flapping wings caught your attention, and you looked up in time to see Kalego and Balam arrive. Seeing a demon's wings was always a shock, considering most of the time they were hidden, and you couldn't resist a moment to study the two's own pair. Kalego's was dark and glossy skin, large yet lithe. They were a pair from a typical legend, whereas Balam's…
Were dark green feathers, with a span that was nearly as long as he was tall. You knew you had seen them before in the chaos of Walter park, but you hadn't been able to appreciate them.
Granted, you couldn't exactly appreciate them now either; because as soon as the two landed, their wings folded back into virtual non-existence.
"You weren't waiting for us, were you?" Balam asked after greeting you cheerfully by name.
"No, I, um, just got here," You explained awkwardly. It wasn't quite a lie, you hoped only a few minutes had passed while you were having a moment.
"Let's get this over with," Kalego sighed, pushing past you towards the door. Balam's arm wrapped around your mid back, providing warmth and safety that you had unknowingly needed. The confidence you needed to face the rest of the staff seemed to flow from him into you.
If he was here, you knew you would be safe.
Inside the bar was dark with just a few candles lit to offer a trace amount of light. You pressed closer to Balam's arm - some instinctual part of you terrified as a robed figure stepped out of the shadows and held out a hand towards you. "Welcome, you who strive to fill the role of the Librarian of Babyls…"
"Must you really be so dramatic?" Kalego growled, interrupting the deep voice. "Seriously, Dali, she's already worked in the library for a few months."
There was a pout on Dali's face as he pulled back his hood. "It's tradition, Kalego. I thought you of all demons would respect that."
"There's hardly a need for theatrics with this one," Kalego shot back, gesturing sharply to you. "At this point it's a mere formality."
"You're just jealous you didn't get the role to scare her." Robin stepped out of the gloom, pointing an accusing finger at Kalego. "Or you would have jumped at the chance!"
Kalego huffed and crossed his arms. "Don't be ridiculous."
Someone grumbled about the effect being ruined, and with a snap the lights flared to life. More of the teachers lowered their hoods and chimed their own thoughts of how things should have went.
"Are they always like this?" You whispered as the argument--bickering, really-- continued.
"Well, not usually…" Balam admitted quietly. "But typically one is initiated when they first start. You're a bit of a special case."
"Can we just hurry up and get this over with?" Elder Morax complained rather loudly. "I thought the main event tonight would be celebrating!"
Dali sighed, conceding he had lost. "Very well. Please, step forward." He gestured to you, and Balam's protective touch became a gentle nudge forward.
You hesitantly stepped towards Dali and a dark crimson circle flared to life with dark symbols carving themselves into the stone floor. The magic was near palpable, making the hair at the nape of your neck raise as your heart quickened.
"The teacher of Babyls is a sacred role," Dali started, his usual demeanor shifting into one far more serious. "As is the role of Librarian. To guide and guard the treasure of Babyls, its students, is the highest honor. Do you pledge your life to protect them above all else from the enemies that may target our treasure?"
This wasn't some meaningless pledge. You could feel the magic waiting for your answer, to make sure that you held true to it if you swore. Not just Iruma and his classmates, but all the students.
It made you hesitate and think - was this really what you wanted to do? You highly doubted you could just up and quit after an oath like this.
Hell, it was better than the fishery. And you had to admit; while the Misfit class held a special place in your heart, you were fond of all the students. Being a librarian at Babyls? There could be worse fates.
"I swear," You answered, meeting Dali's eyes firmly, and instantly felt the magic snap into place. The odd sensation took your breath away as the symbols flared a fiery red beneath you. There was a strange notion that maybe you hadn't sold your soul to Sullivan after all…
But instead hd just signed it over to Babyls.
A thunderous applause broke out from the surrounding teachers as the circle faded into nothing, and before you could blink, Balam had swung you off your feet, lifting you until you were sitting on his shoulders. You clutched to him, stunned by the sudden change as you looked down at everyone.
Smiling. Cheering. Even Kalego had a faint smile on his face.
You knew you had made the right choice.
----
You may have had limited experience with human coworkers, but your demon peers were nothing like the human counterparts. Where you had been defensive around your previous coworkers, feeling as if you had to constantly prove yourself and be on guard, here you didn't.
They easily accepted the fact you didn't want any alcohol, and in fact had many recommendations on non-alcoholic drinks instead. Despite being new and a bit of an outsider, you didn't feel excluded.
Actually, quite the opposite. In a blur of events, you had been dragged from Balam's side to a seperate table across the large room, where most of the female teachers had gathered. Not just Raim and Momonoki; but Suzy, Furcus, and Tsumuru too.
"We actually have a full table now!" Tsumuru cheered, being echoed by the others.
"I have to admit, I do love what you've done with the library," Furcus admitted, the older woman smiling softly at you, looking rather tired. "Through the years, no one's really paid much attention to the organization of it."
"A lot of the students have enjoyed the new study spaces," Tsumuru added, making you flush from the attention. "I've even seen an increase in grades, which I can't contribute to anything else but the library's renovation. I was so excited when Dali said you were being initiated! I can only imagine how you'll help in the future!"
"Those cubbies also make for good make-out spots," Raim added with a wink, making you flush even more. "Or have you and Balam found that out already?"
"W-we aren't courting, despite what the rumors say," You stated with a bit of a stammer, deciding there was no way to avoid the topic - so you were going to face it head on. With blunt honesty.
"What?!"
It wasn't just Raim and Momonoki giving you incredulous looks as you had expected - it was all of them. Even perpetually calm Suzy and Furcus looked surprised.
"No, that's just not possible!" Momonoki protested. "J-just look at you two! It's obvious!"
"It's more obvious than her crush on Kalego," Suzy chimed, gesturing to the blue-haired teacher who blushed yet nodded in agreement.
"Exactly! How are you two not courting?"
You rubbed your face, willing the burning sensation to fade from your face. "Look, it's… it's like this. We fell into an easy friendship--camaraderie," You corrected, seeing their odd looks, "...because of mutual interests. And his skinship is a perfect match for my own…issues. But that isn't to say we're romantically interested in each other."
Raim frowned and leaned on the table, "I am a succubus, remember? I can literally taste the attraction between you, so don't give me that devibullshit."
Wait. Could Succubi do that?
The others were nodding, so you had to assume they could, and that Raim wasn't lying.
"I mean, I-I am kinda… interested… in him…" You admitted, casting a glance to the table across the room where the other staff were. They were by far louder, so you doubted that anyone else could overhear the infamous Girl Talk you had been dreading.
Yet almost sensing you were looking at him, Balam shifted to look at you - head tilted to express his concern. You smiled slightly and gave a small wave, letting him know you were fine.
Even if you were internally dying of embarrassment.
The corners of his eyes crinkled as he smiled and returned your small wave before his attention was caught by Robin invading Kalego's space once more.
"Are you telling me - that you two are mutually interested in each other, but not courting?!" Raim virtually seethed. "Have you even said anything?!"
You blinked, startled by the severe expression on her face. You had no idea she - or the others - had been so invested in the relationship between you and Balam.
"I haven't done this before, okay?!" You shot back after a moment, put on the defensive by her tone. "This is unfamiliar territory for me!"
"But, Iruma is your son," Furcus added, a frown gracing her face. "You can't have children without mating."
"T-that, was…" You trailed off, fear flooding through your mind as you worried about being caught in your lie. You had built a backstory, but hadn't quite explained it to Iruma - and you weren't sure what he had said about the matter. What if he had said something that would contradict you? What if it planted seeds of doubt in their minds?
Devi, if only adoptions were normal in the Netherworld. But you had seen it yourself at Walter Park; most demons were demonish in that aspect.
"Is the rumor of his father true?" Tsumuru asked as your pause became stagnant.  "He's really not present?"
"It was one of those… unintended things," You awkwardly excused, not completely sure how deep a hole you were digging yourself. But surely demons had one-night stands? And maybe decided to keep any child conceived afterwards?
"I've had plenty of those," Raim sighed dreamily, destroying any doubt. "Though, you know there are plenty of… remedies for afterwards."
You shrugged your shoulders, "Yeah, but… Iruma's one of the best things in my life so I don't regret anything."
"While that is adorable," Momonoki interjected. "Our main concern should be that our dear librarian hasn't courted before, and we all know Balam hasn't either. They're both helpless! We need to help them!"
Raim hummed, "You just want a real-life romance novel to play out before your eyes, don't you?"
The other demon turned a bright shade of pink.
"That is totally besides the point!"
"You guys," You whined. "It really isn't that big of a deal. Balam and I…we'll figure it out."
Suzy patted your hand reassuringly. "I'm sure you will. But if you ever need some advice, feel free to ask. I courted many a demon back in my day before deciding to pledge my life to Babyls."
Raim nodded, "Absolutely. I would be happy in giving you a few pointers and tips on seduction. Together, we could have that giant of a demon wrapped around your finger." She smirked while twirling her own hair around her graceful fingers, making you blush deeper.
Furcus snorted, "You say that as if he isn't already."
Tsumuru nodded, "You don't have to be a master at psychiatry like myself to know he has it bad."
"And," Raim continued in a staged whisper, leaning over the table closer to you. "Once he's wrapped around your finger, you can finally wrap yourself around--"
---
The evening became livelier as Robin and Dali pulled out games like Bingo and Charades, along with some Netherworld games you had no name for but ended up laughing until your ribs hurt.
Partly just because of the anitics of the others as they drank more and more while you stayed sober. But, you had a feeling you would have ended up having a good time regardless. It truly was nothing like your previous experiences; you were thoroughly enjoying yourself.
To probably no one's surprise, you ended up once more next to Balam; and all too aware of the 'supportive' gestures from your female colleagues, ranging from subtle thumbs up and winks to awkward gestures that you had no idea what they meant - but seemed vulgar anyways.
You could only pray Balam hadn't noticed them or the fact you would suddenly pull his attention elsewhere in an attempt to keep him from noticing. If he had, he kept silent and just rolled with your antics while helping you with the games you were unfamiliar with.
While also more or less compelling Kalego to participate as well, which made you giggle as the other demon grumbled half-heartedly. Having fun and being happy filled you with a sort of boldness, leading you to tease Kalego.
Kalego would take it in stride and subtly return the teasing with light-hearted taunts. Which - judging by Balam's excited reactions as the two of you bantered back and forth - meant Kalego had officially accepted you into the fold.
--
"Is it really okay to leave Robin with everyone?" You asked hours later as you left with Balam and Kalego. At least half a dozen of the other teachers were passed out inside the inn, and you felt guilty at Kalego's offhand comment about it being the newbie’s responsibility to get them all home.
"He arranged it and allowed Dali to partake as well," Kalego replied with a snort. "He needs to take responsibility for his actions."
"Considering most of them live in the teachers' dorms, he won't have that much difficulty," Balam assured, his hand combing through your hair thoughtlessly. "Are you okay with returning home?"
The nightmare in question - still patiently waiting at her post - snorted and pawed a hoof as if insulted by Balam's implication.
"Podargos will make sure I get home safe and sound," You said, giving him a reassuring smile. "Dad and Opera trained her well."
Yet despite the reassurance, Balam seemed reluctant to let you go. His hand brushed your cheek softly as he held your gaze. Was his thoughts wandering the same path yours now wandered, thinking of the possibility of a romantic relationship. Or had the wine he and Kalego been sharing still affecting him?
(Granted, for as much as they both drank, you were surprised they were seemingly unaffected.)
Everyone seemed so sure that Balam held such romantic feelings for you that it filled you with hope - but at the same time, you were still so lost on what to do next. Was it unfair of you to wait for him to make that next move, or was he waiting for you?
Devi, he'd probably end up waiting forever if he was. You don't know if you possessed the boldness to take that next step without his lead.
"Shichiro," Kalego called, interrupting the moment. "Shall I leave you two alone? I would like to be home before dawn."
"Still feeling that last glass, Kalego?" You couldn't help but tease despite the warmth spreading across your cheeks and his implication. Or, at least the one your mind readily supplied.
His eyes narrowed slightly, though you hoped it was in good humor. "I applaud the fact you restrained yourself from drinking all night. I hate to see what the school would be like if everyone witnessed you crawling into Shichiro’s lap to sleep."
"You two…" Balam sighed as you seethed in embarrassment as the dark-haired demon smirked.
Fine, two could play at that game. "Well," you drawled as you turned back to Balam. "Since Kalego apparently needs help finding his way home--"
"I do not--" Kalego hissed, though your attention was once more captured by Balam as you reached up and patted Balam's cheek without thinking.
The giant demon quickly bent down so you could reach easier, and - well, the temptation to run your fingers through his hair was too much for you to resist.
"I'll talk to you later, okay?" You finished softly as your heart thumped in your chest. Just a few small strokes and Balam's eyes had fluttered shut as he leaned more into your touch. He looked so happy, so content, so utterly cute, you gave into impulse and leaned in closer to press a quick kiss to his cheek.
"Goodnight, Shichiro." You whispered as you pulled away before nodding at the other demon. "Kalego."
Kalego returned your nod, but you didn't dare look back at Balam to see his reaction. You instead turned to Podargos, somehow managing to undo the knot keeping her tethered with shaky hands before pulling yourself up in the saddle.
She was already galloping when you heard the flutter of wings unfurling and the two presumably taking their leave as well. You gripped the reins tightly, grinning to yourself as the wind whipped around you. You did it! You initiated affection with Balam, and now all you could do was pray it hadn't been too subtle of a hint. Because damn, your heart was hammering heavily enough as it was.
Short Ten
Silence hung over the two demons as they flew, though Kalego knew it wouldn't last for very long. Before they reached the first trees of the forest, Balam finally broke the silence with a whisper "She kissed me…"
Kalego sighed, "I saw." He was happy for him, truly was. But why did you have to finally end Shichiro's doubts tonight? He was already mentally worn out from a long week, plus the hours of forced social interaction.
He wanted to go home, have a long hot shower, and sleep. That is all he wanted at this point.
"And called me Shichiro!" Balam's awed whisper turned into giddiness, and Kalego could easily imagine his companion blushing furiously despite the sky dark, moons barely providing any light. There were only two demons (himself and Opera, of course) outside his family that called Balam by his given name. Everyone else was too terrified of the gentle giant to take such liberties.
"I was there for that as well," unfortunately, Kalego added mentally. He was actually surprised it took you this long, to be honest. After all, you had the whole Misfit class calling you mom now - if rumors proved correct. He had figured you had been using Shichiro in private for weeks now.
Apparently not.
A flap of feathered wings and Balam was gliding next to Kalego, the tips of his wings about brushing his. "Thank you, Kalego, for changing your mind."
Part of his aggravation faded away, and Kalego nodded slightly. "It wasn't too terrible, I suppose." The finest wine money could buy, all from the Chair demon's own account. The food was surprisingly decent for a dive bar, and there had been a few amusing moments.
The moment of peace shortly faded as Balam all but giggled. "I can't believe she actually kissed me!"
Kalego decided he should have taken a bottle of wine home with him after all.
Hell, if he was going to endure this… "So, what are you going to give her as an offering when you ask her to court?"
There was a flutter of wings as Balam faltered mid air with a choked noise, making Kalego smirk.
-----
Opera calmly poured Lord Sullivan's tea, though their mind was full of unrest. You and Iruma had become close, and they acknowledged both of you as members of the Sullivan family, and therefore under their protection.
"Not to question your decision..." Opera started as they finished. "But is it wise to have her sworn in as a Babyls teacher?" A human under the Oath of Babyls? Old, ancient magic that bound a teacher to the school and their duties -  how would it react to a human? Would it be the same, or cause you to suffer?
"You said it yourself," Lord Sullivan stated calmly as he picked up his tea cup. "Evil is stirring, even here at Babyls. Iruma will be well protected between his ring and his classmates, though I plan to ask Barbatos Bachinko to continue to tutor him. However, my dear daughter does not have his power or allies. Even if she becomes Balam's intended, the Oath will force him to put the students before her. But, if she is sworn in as a sort-of teacher…"
"Then the others will see her as one of them, even if her identity is revealed," Opera finished as they realized Sullivan's true intent. "They will be more inclined to protect her as well."
Sullivan nodded before smiling, "Plus, she really is as antisocial as Kalego. She could stand to use a few more-- what do they call them? Friends? Humans are social creatures after all…"

i just need to vent a lil bit or else i'm going to combust.
i work at an office for a small company. i hate confrontation. i'm a pretty quiet person and keep things to myself mostly and don't bother anyone. i do my work, i get off work, i don't think about work at home, and that's that.
my manager is one of the most frustrating people i've ever encountered. she is over sixty, extremely stuck in her ways and borderline delusional. she is incompetent with computers, constantly says she's not good with computers, yet doesn't do anything to learn or advance her skills. one time she asked me why she couldn't move a file from one folder to another. at the time i didn't have the time or energy to explain to her how it worked (also because i've tried explaining other basic computer things in the past and all she kept saying was "i'll never understand" so i stopped trying) so i just did it for her. it took me literally 2 seconds. the next day she said i stayed up all night thinking about what happened yesterday, i don't understand why you did that, why could you just teach me. i said i have tried before, you just don't listen. then she said okay next time i have a computer issue i won't ask you. i said okay fine. she ignored me for months after that unless it was absolutely necessary to talk to me, which honestly was fine by me.
one time she accused me of "stealing and shredding company documents" without any evidence. she told my supervisor she didn't know what i was working on, didn't understand the computer system i use, photocopied reports i had written like she was collecting evidence to my supervisor (who doesn't come into the office often) as if she was catching me in the act of doing something nefarious, when in reality i scan every report for my supervisor to see. i sit beside this person every day. she could've turned her head and asked me questions and i would've answered her. instead she just assumed i was "suspicious" because she has hate in her heart and thinks everyone's out to get her, but honestly i just don't care enough about my job to do all the extra work of "stealing company information" ????? i just want to get paid dude.
my supervisor sat me down and told me she believes me, that my manager is from a different generation, that as long as i do my work then it's fine. so ever since then i don't engage with my manager, i don't confront her, i don't talk to her unless it's work related. she refocused her negative energy to other coworkers. i don't have the mental capacity to coddle her or interact with her. if she talks to me, then i just nod politely.
cut to recently she has started to make passive aggressive comments to my new coworker. i keep quiet, but my coworker and i text to vent about her, since we can't talk out loud when she's there. she made a comment to my coworker about something a few days ago and finally i snapped, i confronted her, asked her why she would say something like that, she said that's just who i am, i am this direct, blah blah blah. she ignored me for a few days after that. then, out of fucking nowhere, she accused me of "forging her signature on a quarterly report" last year (????) with absolutely zero evidence to back up her claim. i just about lost it. i can be quiet about a lot of things, but i will defend myself if you accuse me of doing something i didn't do, especially something this serious. like if a person said shit like that in any professional setting with an actual HR department they would be reprimanded, right?!
i'm just exhausted. i wrote a long email to my supervisor about my side of the story. i know nothing will happen to my manager but i just wanted to make sure that my supervisor knows i didn't do anything wrong and that if my manager wants to accuse me of something, then she has to file a formal complaint and present actual evidence to back up her claim, instead of randomly spewing bullshit out of nowhere just because she's petty. also she burps a lot which is fucking gross.
anyway. idk who's going to read this. i just had to write this out or else i was going to combust. this isn't half the shit she's done. whatever. i'm fine. i just want to do my work and get paid and survive in this shitty economy and pay my rent dude. some people are just fucking weird. the end.

I’m so tired because I had to work longer than I normally do because me and my coworker had to call parents because of a change of date for swim lessons after a huge fiasco that was Sunday (there were lessons on the schedule that had no actual instructor for them and no one told parents the lessons were cancelled for the day so me and my coworker who were teaching lessons that day too were trying to deal with those parents while also dealing with our own lessons) and because our supervisors are fucking useless we were the ones who had to make those calls and deal with parents.
And normally when I work Mondays and Wednesdays I don’t bring a snack with me to work because I’m supposed to be done by 2 on Mondays and 1:15 on Wednesdays and I only live five minutes away so I can just go home and eat lunch after. But because of what happened today I wasn’t able and then I had to drive my coworker home because her dad couldn’t come pick her up. So by the time I got home it was 5pm and I was just tired and starving and way overstimulated and I barely had the energy to shower.
And then my mom called me because my parents are out of town and I’m home alone until Wednesday and told me it was my fault I didn’t get to eat and like it’s really not. Because what was I supposed to do? Whip out the snack that I didn’t have to eat while making phone calls and dealing with pissed off parents? Like I’m normally fine and this wasn’t supposed to happen.
And I’m just at the point now where im just tired and don’t want to eat and I would have gotten take out but my parents would have screamed at me for that and I don’t have the energy to cook and I’m like two seconds away from crying because I’m so overstimulated.
And it doesn’t help that I have to clean my entire room tomorrow on my day off because my mother doesn’t understand that my chronic illness comes with chronic fatigue and I’m sorry I haven’t been able to clean my room because of that but threatening to throw out all my stuff just because you don’t like it isn’t exactly the way to make your child really want to do it.
I just wanna curl up in a ball and cry and I don’t even know what to do right now. This is when I start hating myself for how I can never keep friends because all I want is someone to talk to but I have one friend irl and I love them but I know they’re busy or don’t always want to deal with me.
