Need to share this with tumblr as well. When I was in high school we had to do a research project on a subject of our choice which usually takes a year to do. Anyway, my group and I were working on Internet communities and Identity (its so far from what you might imagine it was about lol). We were sharing our progress with the teachers who were supervizing us and, one a them told us "Oh, I know friends like that", pulled up his phone and show us a picture of his friends in kinky leather clothing (they were not doing anything sexual). The other one was like "WTF WHY ARE YOU SHOWING THEM THIS" and he simply shrugged "It's an internet community". Which is not wrong. And I think about that all the time it.

more people should start accepting the fact that you don't have to be wrong to apologize. when you apologize you don't admit defeat, it doesn't mean you have lost but you can lose something important if you don't. apologizing means that you respect the other person, that you care about their feelings enough to not want to hurt them and if you did - that you're sorry for it and you would try to not do it again. it doesn't make you a loser, weaker, it doesn't mean that they have control over you or that you're stomping over your dignity. by apologizing, you're telling this person that - hey, i might not completely understand why you got upset, because maybe i wouldn't in your place, but your emotions are valid to me and i didn't mean to hurt you and im sorry if i did and i will try to not let it happen again. and notice how i say try instead of i will or i won't. because you don't know. bc you're human and sometimes you can't control your temper, your instincts and you fuck up and you realize that you do later and that's valid. you might repeat the same mistake twice. or thrice. it doesn't mean you don't care it means you're trying. you're going against your human nature for this person bc you care. and it won't always work and it won't always be perfect and when that happens you apologize and try again. stop thinking that apologizing is beneath you, that it's humiliating. it's not. it shows strength and maturity. it shows that you value your relationships over your ego. it tells the other person that they're worth the trouble, that they're worth the guilt and embarrassment you might feel from hurting them. it shows that you're honest with yourself, that you admit you've caused pain. i know its extremely hard for people to do - to accept that responsibility and the guilt that comes with it. it takes courage and strength- the opposite of what the mass think apology means. it makes you vulnerable and while that's fucking scary, it doesn't equal weakness or submission. people you care about are worth being vulnerable with. and i feel sorry for those who don't realize that and who try so hard to look badass by not ever apologizing, thinking it makes them tough and cool. no, it doesn't. if anything it even emphasizes the insecurity you're trying so hard to cover up.

Short Prompt #122
"SUPERVILLAIN ESCAPED! SUPERV-" - the audio suddenly cut to static, the radio in Hero's hands nearly shuttering into pieces from their grip.
"H-Hero, sir, what do we do?" - one of the guards asked.
The hero gulped. "Superhero is still recovering, so we'll need to take care of this ourselves. Initiate lockdown protocols and evacuate the city."
"Yes, sir!" - the guards replied before running off to carry out their orders.
Hero meanwhile, took in shaky breaths, trying to steady their wild heartbeat.

Getting into it - MARVEL Rewrite Chapter Two
[MARVEL REWRITE-MASTERLIST] - [THE INFINITY SAGA]
Previous Chapter / Next Chapter
Summary: There was no turning back now. Steve and Frainn had been enlisted and sent to a military camp for training under the supervision of the Agent Carter. Colonel Phillips and Dr. Erskine were watching the whole process to determine which soldier would be the one to become the very first super soldier. Obviously, Dr. Erskine already knew perfectly who would become this super soldier... but he wouldn’t be left alone. Frainn, who didn’t really need any serum to be a super soldier was Steve’s teammate and they wouldn’t be teared apart to fight this war. It was the two of them or nothing, and if it Colonel Phillips didn’t get that, someone else would, and someone else did.
Words: 6.4k
Warnings: spoilers captain America 1, violence, action scenes, killing/murder, car chase, Frainn being awesome and cool lol, hint of jealousy, clues as to what earned Frainn a banishment (read closely eheh),Steve having a closer relationship with his buddy Frainn than with Peggy (I like the character but yaaa know, anyway), lots of dialogue
All the recruits were lined up, in uniforms, helmets on their heads, and waiting. It hadn’t even been three days since they arrived at the military training camp. A female voice reached their ears. Frainn didn't expect to see another woman here, until then she had only seen men and had already almost gotten herself into fights several times trying to defend Steve from the idiots who kept picking on him by mocking, but Steve had told her he didn't want her to get into trouble for him, and she had taken it upon herself, content to verbally reframe those who dared to laugh at him. Because of that, most of the other recruits were kind of afraid of her. She had made them understand multiple times that she could break every single bones in their body if she wanted to do so. She enjoyed being feared by them. They were all complete assholes. In the end, it seemed like the bullies got bullied.
"Recruits, attention !" said the woman. Everyone obeyed and stiffened as she approached. "Gentlemen, miss," She glanced at Frainn while walking in front of them. "I am Agent Carter. I supervize all operations for this division."
"What’s with the accent, Queen Victoria ?" one of the recruits said insolently. Frainn arched an eyebrow at him. She had understood that she had a distressing lack of knowledge regarding the history and geography of Midgard and therefore hadn’t quite understood why he called her that because of her accent. She had no idea who this Queen Victoria was. Agent Carter stopped  and eyed him. "I thought I was signing up for the U.S. Army." He added.
"What’s your name, soldier ?" she asked, stopping in front of him.
 "Gilmore Hodge, Your Majesty."
"Step forward, Hodge." He obeyed, looking at his friends as if he had just gained the upper hand, and walked towards her. "Put your right foot forward."
"Mmm… We gonna wrassle ?" A man who accompanied the young woman distributed papers to us. "Cause I’ve got a few moves I know you’ll like." Immediately she gave him a violent punch that sent him right to the ground. Frainn tilted her head slightly and glanced at Steve, pursuing her lips to suppress an amused smile. She knew that if she had punched like that, Hodge wouldn't just be stunned, his jaw would be cracked and dislocated. But this chick, despite being Midgardian, earned some of Frainn’s respect. She had a strong character herself and liked women like her. A male voice rose behind her.
 "Agent Carter !"
"Colonel Phillips." she greeted, turning to the man who was approaching them.
"I can see that you are breaking in the candidates. That’s good !" He stood next to her and looked at the soldier still on the ground. "Get your ass up out of that dirt and stand in the line at attention ‘till somebody comes tell you what to do."
"Yes, sir !" Hodge answered, raising his head, swallowing his unwelcomed pride. There was a second of silence before the colonel began to walk back and forth in front of them.
"General Patton has said that wars are fought with weapons, but they are won by men. We are going to win this war because we have the best men." He looked at the recruits and fixed his gaze on Steve and Frainn. “A stick man and a girl who can’t keep her punches for herself” he must have thought. Well, even if he thought something like that, Frainn must admit, they were one hell of a chaotic duo. Frainn saw his face turning slightly to Carter, and she recognized Doctor Erskine, standing just behind the young woman, answering the colonel's gaze. "And because they are going to get better." He continued. This little additional remark was implicitly addressed to Steve more than Frainn, and he perfectly understood that it was aimed at him. "Much better. The Strategic Scientific Reserve and Allied effort made up of the best minds in the world. Our goal is to create the best army in history. But every army starts with one man. At the end of this week, we will choose that man. He will be the first in a new breed of super-soldier. And they will personally escort Adolf Hitler to the gates of hell."
Tumblr media
The training gave none of the recruits any respite and seemed tiring for most but not for Frainn. By the end of each busy and gruelling day, she was still in great shape and was unaffected by the strain. She surprised her superiors with her physical abilities superior to those of any other recruit among the division, and she felt that she was earning the respect of the officers and the colonel, but also the jealousy and contempt of her peers who didn’t understand how she was doing so well. She never seemed tired. She was the best in the division, the most efficient, both physically and intellectually, and the strongest of course. Even Colonel Phillips, who had had doubts about admitting a woman, was more than satisfied with her and already considered her a "super-soldier". For him, it was obvious that the selected recruit would likely be her. Frainn often heard the Colonel talk about it but she also knew that the German doctor wanted Steve to be choosen. Precisely because she was already too much of a "super-soldier".
And she got the confirmation, the day before the end of the program. After a day of training, the recruits of her division -including her, of course- were working out on the field for half an hour already, when she overheard a conversation between the Colonel and the doctor, watching them. It had been a few minutes since it showed on her face that she was bored, and concentrating on their exchange was entertaining to her.
"You stick a needle in that kid’s arm, it’s gonna go right through him." Frainn glanced discreetly at Steve. "Look at that. He’s making me cry."
"I’m looking for qualities beyong the physical." Dr. Erskine thoughtfuly explained.
"Do you know how long it took to set up this project ?" He sounded rather annoyed. "All the groveling I had to do in front of Senator What’s-His-Name’s committees ?" He was talking about things and people Frainn didn't understand, and she let herself be distracted slightly from the exercise Carter had given. She picked up their conversation for a second, challenged by the voice of the Englishwoman.
"I know this is more than easy for you, but please focus." It didn’t sound like a reproach. Carter had esteem for Frainn, that the goddess had noticed, but she couldn't show any favoritism in front of the others recruits by saying nothing to her when her lack of concentration was noticeable by anyone who looked at her.
"Yes, ma’am. Sorry, ma’am." She said mechanically, catching up on the conversation where the doctor and colonel were, more discreetly this time.
"... Hodge passed every test we gave. He’s big, he’s fast. He obeys orders. He’s a soldier." The Colonel said, looking at Hodge.
"He is a bully." replied the doctor immediately. The Colonel chuckled, crossing his arms.
"You don’t win wars with niceness, Doctor." Frainn felt his gaze fall on her. "Even Lockhart-"
"Lokadottir." The doctor corrected him as he also looked at her.
"Yes, Lokadottir." The Colonel nodded and resumed what he was saying. "For a woman, she’s tall, she’s strong, she’s efficient and she was the best in all our tests. Better than Hodge. The only flaws I found in her are her flippancy and impulsiveness. She agrees to team up with Rogers but otherwise, she prefers to go it alone or she might start a fight with someone." He looked at the doctor, waiting for a reaction, for an answer from him. It was obvious he wanted to know why he didn't want her either. He had shown him his two best recruits and still didn't understand why he stubbornly wanted Steve.
"She doesn’t start fights because she likes it, Colonel. Her and Rogers have common qualities. They both have heart, empathy and strong-minds, but she's already a super-soldier. She doesn't need to be enhanced in any areas." He shifted his gaze from Steve to Frainn. "And, her free-spirit is one of her main quality, Colonel."
"Again, we don’t win wars with niceness. Neither do we win wars with soldiers who don't follow orders, Doc'." Frainn followed the Colonel with her eyes as he grabbed something from one of the crates of military equipment in the back of a truck trailer. He pulled out a small oval object and casually pulled out something from it, leaning towards the doctor. "You win wars, with guts." He threw the object into the midst of the recruits.
"Grenade!" He yelled to get everyone triggered.
"Move ! Move !" exclaimed Hodge, catching the attention of all the other recruits, who hurried away in opposite directions. For a second, Frainn didn't know what to do because she had no idea what a grenade was but when she saw Steve throwing himself and curling up around the grenade to contain the explosion, she took a few steps towards him. She realized that Agent Carter had had the same reaction and they glanced at each other.
"Get away ! Get back !" said Steve, wincing, eyes closed.
"It’s a dummy grenade." declared an officer nearby. Steve straightened up and looked around, not really understanding what was going on.
"Is this a test ?" He asked. Frainn looked at Steve and then turned to the Colonel, to see his reaction.
"He’s still skinny." Declared the Colonel as he left. The goddess approached Steve and held out her hand to help him stand up. He turned his head to her and grabbed her wrist as she grabbed his. She pulled him up, and he was briefly unsettled by the force of her grip, though he kind of expected it. For his part, the doctor was smiling. Steve's reaction had proven his point to the Colonel and confirmed that his final choice was more than relevant.
Tumblr media
Towards the end of the day, Frainn headed back to the dorms because she knew she would find Steve there. When she reached the door, which was already open, ajar, she heard the doctor's voice coming from inside. She stopped as she was about to walk into the room and stood behind the door, wondering what he was talking about with Steve.
"Can I ask you a question ?"
"Just one ?"
"Why me ?" There was a silence and Frainn ventured to glance around the room. The Doctor was sitting on the bed in front of Steve –Frainn’s bed–, holding a bottle in his hand.
"I suppose that is the only question that matters." He observed the bottle and showed it to Steve. "This is from Augsburg. My city. So many people forget that the first country the Nazis invaded was their own. You know, after the last war, my people struggled." Frainn listened intently to Erskine's words. It was the first time that she had realized the liabilities of the Midgardians. Even though they were part of the nine realms, they were far removed from the rest and fought among themselves, like the fights and tension between Asgard and Jotunheim for example, but them, on the same planet, in the same place. Frainn would have thought they were one united people, like on Asgard, but they were a many divided people on one single planet.
She continued to wait until their conversation was over, listening to what the doctor was saying. All the information imprinted in her mind as Erskine spoke, until he came to the conclusion of his explanation.
"Good becomes great. Bad becomes worse." The doctor looked at Steve in the eyes. "This is why you were chosen. Because a strong man who has known power all his life may lose respect for that power, but a weak man knows the value of strenght. And knows compassion."
"Thanks. I think." Steve answered. Frainn heard glass clashing and liquid being poured, and realized that the two men were now emptying the bottle the doctor was holding in his hand.
"Whatever happens tomorrow, you must promise me one thing." She heard the sound of the bottle cork being reinserted into its neck. "That you will stay who you are. Not a perfect soldier, but a good man."
"To the little guys." Cheered Steve. The men chuckled and glasses clashed.
"No, no. Wait, wait. What am I doing ? No, you have procedure tomorrow. No fluids."
"All right. We’ll drink it after."
"No, I don’t have procedure tomorrow, nor your friend. Drink it after ? We’ll drink it now." Frainn frowned, and she could feel Steve doing the same.
"What about my friend?"
"Come on in, and join us, Miss Lokadottir. Don’t stay behind that door." Without moving, Frainn pushed the door open with her fingertips to open it wide before entering the room under the surprised gaze of Steve, who shifted to make room for her on his bed next to him. Erskine didn't dwell on the subject and handed her the glass he had originally served for Steve.
"You will join us tomorrow." The doctor told her.
"I can come ?" She asked, taking a sip of her drink.
"If I say so, you can accompany your friend." The doctor nodded.
"It's a blessing that I actually met you," Frainn looked at Steve. "I went to an exhibition, I joined the military, sort of, and I'm going to attend, uh, not sure what I'm going to attend, but I guess it's cool." Both men smiled at her optimism. Frainn emptied her glass very quickly and put it back on the metal shelf at the edge of Steve's bed, not planning on asking for another drink.
"You are someone special, Frainn. Very peculiar." It was the first time the scientist called her by her first name. She smiled. The doctor wasn’t aware of how right he was about it.
"You don’t worry about Steve, doctor. I’m his guardian angel." She joked. The doctor smiled again, and Frainn friendly nudged Steve. Even though she had met the young man not so long ago, it felt like they were friends since birth. Her banishment had taken away everything she had, and with good reason since Odin had to punish her for what she had done, and she had found in Steve, an ideal partner, and friend. She had found her ally and she understood by observing Steve a little that he wasn’t leaving anyone behind, especially not his friends.
Tumblr media
Sitting in the backseat of the car with Steve, Frainn watched the passing buildings out the window. Peggy was there too. She was seated in the front passenger seat, next to the driver.
"I know this neighborhood." Steve pointed to a street they were passing by. "I got beat up in that alley. And in that parking lot. And behind that diner."
“Did you have something against running away ?" Peggy asked, looking at Steve via the interior mirror of the car.
"If you start running, they’ll never let you stop. You stand up, you push back. They can’t say no forever, right ?"
"I know a little of what that’s like, to have every door shut in your face." Frainn quietly listened to the conversation between Steve and Peggy. She didn't understand why the Midgardians discriminated against women so much. There were no such problems on Asgard. Everyone had and knew their place there and everything was fine. Not everyone liked each other obviously, but everyone was respectul of the rights of their peers.
"I guess I just don’t know why you’d want to join the Army if you were a beautiful dame. Or a… A woman. An agent. Not a dame." With her back straight, Peggy twisted in her seat to turn to face Steve and look him in the eyes. He stammered. Frainn leaned against the car door to bring her hand closer to her face to hide the amused smile on her face. "You are beautiful, but..."
"You have no idea how to talk to a woman, do you ?" She glanced at Frainn. "I’m starting to wonder how a conversation between you two is like."
"I think this is the longest conversation I’ve had with one. Frainn and I talk like mates." Frainn chuckled and gave him a light hit on the shoulder. Peggy gave them a look, suppressing a smile.
"I'm not saying you're masculine, or a man..." Steve continued, not knowing she didn’t really care if he was considering her a man anyway. "Anyway, women aren’t exactly lining up to dance or talk with a guy they might step on. Frainn is an exeption. That’s what I’m trying to say."
"You must have danced then." Peggy added.
"Well, asking a woman to dance always seemed so terrifying. And the past few years, it just didn’t seem to matter that much. I figured I’d wait."
"For what ?"
"The right partner." He nodded, more to convince himself. Peggy smiled and sat back normally in her seat. Just a minute later, the car pulled up, and they got out.
"This way." Peggy motioned for them to follow her. She walked to the front of an antique shop in which old objects were displayed.
"What are we doing here ?" Steve asked.
"Follow me." Steve gave Frainn a curious look, which she sent back to him as Peggy entered the store before them. The two friends immediately followed her, intrigued. A bell ringed when the agent opened the door for the three of them. She walked further into the room without saying anything, while Steve closed the door. The room wasn’t very bright, filled with wooden shelves and various items, and the only sources of light were yellowish lamps on the ceiling. An old lady stepped out from behind curtains in a door frame and spoke to Peggy.
"Wonderful weather this morning, isn’t it ?"
"Yes, but I always carry an umbrella." The old woman went behind a counter and put her hand on the ledge, sliding her fingers under the board. Peggy walked over to the curtains behind which the woman had came out from and Frainn and Steve followed her. They arrived in a small room, one wall of which was covered with a crammed bookcase. Something unlocked and the shelves in the center of the bookcase opened on either side to create an entrance, revealing armored doors.
There was a whole facility hidden in there. Frainn and Steve looked around curiously and followed Peggy down the long, cold hallway with black and white walls. There were a few soldiers in white helmets standing guard. When they finally reached the double metal door at the end of the hallway, two of these soldiers in helmets opened the door synchronously. They overlooked a large room filled with electronics that went beyond Frainn and Steve understanding, but Peggy, even though Frainn doubted she understood everything there, didn't seem more impressed than that. Frainn and Steve walked over to the railing and the scientists present down there stopped talking. Everyone looked up at the new arrivals. Peggy gave Steve and Frainn a look and walked down the stairs to their right. Frainn understood, without the agent having to say anything, that she had to remain silent and behind. It was not about her today. It was all about Steve, and they didn't need to waste time with anything else.
Frainn, Peggy and Steve joined doctor Erskine who was there among the scientists. He turned to the three of them, a slight smile on his face as he looked at Steve. Frainn and the agent stayed behind the soldier. He and the doctor shook hands, exchanging a couple words before a sudden bright flash interrupted them. Frainn narrowed her eyes, momentarily blinded by the powerful light, and stared at the strange square machine in the hands of the man standing next to them. Whatever he did, it didn't seem to please the doctor at all. Doctor Erskine shook his head, sighing and dismissed the man. The latter left without saying anything. The goddess frowned, not understanding what had just happened. She shrugged and turned her head to Steve and the doctor.
“Are you ready ?” Steve nodded at the doctor, looking at the long metallic machine to his right. It was long and large enough to make someone lie down inside of it, and Frainn assumed it was for Steve, though she didn't quite understand why they were going to use it. “Good. Take off your shirt, your tie, and your hat.” Steve glanced at the two women behind him while slowly doing so. Peggy looked down and Frainn imitated her. Once he was done, he gave his stuff to someone who put it all away as he took place on the machine. Everyone started to get ready and Erskine turned to Peggy and Frainn.
“Agent Carter. Lokadottir. Don’t you think you would be more comfortable in the booth ?”
“Oh, yes,” Peggy looked embarrassed to have been standing there and motioned for Frainn to follow her as she left. “Sorry.” Frainn followed her immediately, frowning slightly in incomprehension. She glanced at Steve who was watching them walk away, and walked up the stairs to follow Carter into the cabin where other people were already gathered. From up there, they could see down the whole room through a large window. A weird crackle spread in the booth and the room full of scientists below, and Frainn looked around, not understanding where the sound was coming from. The voice of Doctor Erskine then rose, replacing the crackle. He could be heard from any where around them.
“Do you hear me ? Is this on ?” He looked at the grey device in his hand, which looked like the one the guy on the stage back at the exhibition had, and started talking. “Ladies and gentlemen, today we take not another step towards annihilation, but the first step on the path to peace. We will begin with a series of microinjections into the subject’s major muscle groups. The serum infusion will cause immediate cellular change. And then, to stimulate growth, the subject will be saturated with Vita-Rays.” He stopped talking and approached Steve, settled down in the machine. Their mouths moved but no sound was heard from where Frainn and Peggy were, in the booth. The doctor’s voice was for a short moment, no longer displayed all over the place, then his voice came back as he was counting down before the injections started. The vials on the sides of the machine emptied and the latter raised vertically, and closed itself. Steve was like in some kind of big hull. Frainn didn’t really know what was happening, even though Erskine had explained earlier, actually, she didn’t have even understand what he had explained so right now, she was lost but tried to keep up with whatever was happening to her friend down there.
“That’s 10%.” Stated another male’s voice, who would activate and turn stuff on a control panel. Frainn narrowed her eyes and recognized the man from the exhibition. She internally sighed at the fact she hadn’t even seen him when she was down there as he seemed to have been there the whole time. She just never paid attention to anyone else but the doctor, Peggy and Steve. 10 percent quickly became 20, 30, 40… Howard Stark was stating the percentages everytime he increased it. And as he increased it, a radiant light began to emanate from the iron shell inside which Steve was. 50 percent, 60, 70… finally, Steve started screaming loudly. Erskine rushed over to the metal shell and Peggy stood up and left the booth, Frainn followed her with her eyes before eventually following her out. The agent stepped out onto the stairwell that led to the room where the scientists were.
“Shut it down !” She yelled but no one listened to her at first. “Shut it down!”
“Kill the reactor, Mr. Stark !” Erskine had finally heard her and turned to the man near the control panel. “Turn it off! Kill it! Kill the reactor!”
“No !” Steve grunted. “Don’t! I can do this !” And then, Stark increased again the percentage of rays Steve was taking. 80 percent, 90, and he finally reached the maximum, 100 percent. A loud electric humming noise filled the room and Frainn winced. It was a quite disagreeable noise. The lights jumped in small bursts of sparks, one by one across the room and the machine powered down. The radiation emanating from it stopped as well. No one dared to make a move. Peggy and Frainn were looking at whatever was happening now, very closely.
“Mr. Stark ?” Erskine turned to the latter and he re-opened the machine. Frainn’s eyes widened when she saw the man inside. Steve was no longer the small skinny man she had met in that back alley, he was now a tall, muscular man, and he was sweating from what he had put himself through. A wide and proud smile grew across the goddess’ face. She felt proud of what her friend had achieved. Erskine approached the machine and helped Steve to get down. He looked exhausted. Stark came to their aid and together with Erskine, the two men supported Steve and kept him from falling.
“I did it.” Steve was out of breath. He couldn’t believe he made it.
“I think we did it.” Corrected Doctor Erskine with tight-lipped smile.
“You actually did it.” Even Stark seemed like he didn’t believe it. Peggy ran down the stairs and came to stand in front of Steve. Frainn crossed her arms, with that sincerely proud smile plastered on her face. She stayed back slightly and watched them. Peggy let her eyes wandered, not knowing where to put them.
“How do you feel ?” Steve looked around, catching his breath.
“Taller.” Frainn chuckled as she approached to stand closer to Peggy and him.
“Barely taller than me though, tough guy.” She teased. Steve looked at her and despite his breathing being difficult and jerky, he smirked in amusement at her remark.
“You look taller.” Peggy handed him some clothes that a nurse had given her. She seemed a little confused in front of this mountain of muscles and didn't know how to act. Seeing this, Frainn mentally praised the platonic male-female relationship she had with Rogers. As Frainn kept teasing Steve to relax him after the procedure he went through, the booth everyone had descended from suddenly exploded. Everyone exclaimed in surprise as they leaned down and turned their backs to the booth to avoid the shattering glass which fell on them into thousands of scattered pieces.
“Stop him !” Erskine pointed a man who took a vial of the serum. He had to be the one who had set the explosion on. Frainn stood near the doctor and the man tried to shoot her and since her skin was bulletproof, she didn’t even flinched, but it wasn’t the same for the German scientist, who received a couple of bullets into his chest. Frainn gasped and caught him as he fell onto the floor. Steve rushed over to them and kneeled near the doctor. He couldn’t talk and simply pressed several times his index fingers against Steve’s chest and a second later, he closed his eyes, dead. Steve looked up and Frainn and him crossed gazes. They both got up and ran up the stairs and outside the facility and the antique shop. Peggy was already onto the road, shooting at a yellow car driving right towards her. Steve took Peggy in his arms and pushed her away, falling onto the tar as Frainn followed close by.
“I had him !” Sure thing, agent. You were more close to get run over by that car than anything else, but sure.
“Sorry !” Steve got up and ran as fast as possible to catch up with Frainn, already sprinting behind the car.
Growling and annoyed at having to run after a stupid car, she eventually jumped onto it and punched a hole in the roof of the car with her left hand, to avoid falling from it. She managed to hang on, but the man driving tried to shoot her several times, causing the car to make dangerous zigzags on the road. Steve called Frainn out when he heard the gunshots and she briefly turned her head at him, too busy trying to stop the man to smile at him to reassure him. An expression of incomprehension mixed with surprise took place on his face when he realized that she had taken absolutely none of the bullets the man had fired at her. He looked down as he continued to run at full speed and noticed some metal balls rolling down the tar. She punched another hole in the roof of the car with her free hand and grabbed the man by his hair, lifting him from his seat to against the roof. He kept trying to shoot her while driving the car more and more hazardously. She turned her head when she saw Steve join her on the roof to help her. The man turned the car sharply and Steve, who was not as well hooked to the vehicle as Frainn slid to the side and caught up with the door so as not to fall any lower.
Frainn let go of the man's hair to cling tighter onto the roof when the man tried to shoot Steve and looked out of the road, bumping into a truck. She suddenly let go of all her holds and fall heavily as the car rolled over several times on the road. Steve helped her up and grabbed a door of the car that had come loose and used it as a shield when the man tried to shoot them again. People nearby screamed. The man was now holding a little ginger boy in his arms, aiming his gun at Steve and Frainn. She hesitated to use any of her powers. She didn’t want to risk the boy’s life. The two soldiers followed the man over to the docks. The latter suddenly aimed his gun at the boy’s head.
“Wait, don’t! Don’t!” Steve raised his hand in front of him, in defense, to prevent the man from shooting the boy. The latter then tried to shoot at Steve or Frainn, neither of them could really tell, but his gun clicked, meaning there was no bullet left inside. “No! Don’t!” The man threw the boy into the water, to get rid of him, before running away. Steve and Frainn rushed over the edge to see if the boy was alright.
“Go get him ! I can swim.” Frainn then nudged Steve to run into the direction the man had taken. She followed him with her eyes before looking back down at the boy, still swimming. The goddess jumped into the water and motioned for the little boy to hold onto her. She grabbed a chain hanging down the wall and pulled herself up. She wrapped the chain around her arm so that her hands would be free, and she took the boy by the waist and helped him up, before getting back onto the docks in her turn. She smiled back at him before she ran in the direction she had indicated to Steve a moment before. She found him standing still. She came close to him and put a hand on his shoulder to stop herself in her run without slipping. He stood there, as drenched as she was, facing the man who was now lying on the ground, inert, a white foam filling his mouth, making his face looks all puffy. Looking around her, she noticed some people, gathered a few feet away from them, looking at what was happening. Steve looked down at his muscular arms. He still needed a little time to fully get used to his new enhanced body. Frainn squeezed Steve's shoulder. The super soldier turned his head towards her, his gaze confused by what had happened.
Tumblr media
“Think you got enough ?” Sitting on a chair in the nursery, he rolled down his sleeve when the nurse finally got the needle out of his arm. Frainn was there, leaning against a furniture, arms crossed on her chest. After the two of them had taken a dip back at the docks, they had been given dry clothes.
“Any hope of reproducing the program is locked in your genetic code.” Peggy was leaning against the same furniture as Frainn, to her left. Steve stood up and approached them, slightly frowning. “But without Dr. Erskine, it would take years.”
“He deserved more than this.” Steve stared straight ahead of him.
“If it could work only once, he’d be proud it was you.” Peggy added, glancing at the file in her hand. It was obvious to Frainn that Steve doubted he was the right choide for all this. She could feel it. Peggy got out of the nursery, motioning for them to follow her out.
“How did you do that ?”
“What ?” Frainn was caught off guard by Steve’s question.
“I don’t know. Everything. How did you run so fast ? How did you jump onto the car ? How did you avoid all those bullets?” She suddenly pulled his wrist, making him slow down his steps so that the two of them would walk a little further behind Peggy but they ended up stopping instead. She locked her cold blue eyes into his own.
“Stop talking so loud.”
“Why ?” He frowned. “Frainn. What are you not telling me ?” She opened her mouth to answer to him but Peggy’s voice cut her off.
“You’ll talk later. Come on.” She noticed Frainn holding Steve’s wrist in her hand but didn’t say anything. Frainn couldn’t tell what was that strange glimpse that went through Peggy’s eyes but the agent started walking away again. Frainn glanced at Steve, letting go off of his wrist and following Peggy fast enough to catch up with her. The agent brought them into some sort of garage where they found Colonel Philips, Stark and a few other men, probably other high ranked soldiers or some shit like that. Frainn hadn’t been paying as much attention as she should have but in any case, Peggy did the talking apparently. “Hydra is the Nazi deep-science division. It’s led by Johann Schmidt. But he has much bigger ambitions.”
“Hydra is practically a cult.” What Colonel Philips added got Frainn’s curiosity and she started to actually listen to what all of them were talking about. “They worship Schmidt. They think he’s invincible.”
“So, what are you gonna do about it ?”
“I spoke to the President this morning.” He and the man he was talking to walked over Carter, Frainn and Steve. “As of today, the SSR is being retasked. We are taking the fight to Hydra. Pack your bags, Agent Carter. You, too, Stark. We’re flying to London tonight.”
“Sir ?” Steve spoke up. “If you’re going after Schmidt, I want in. We want in.” The fact that he included Frainn without having to even look at her or speak to her confirmed to everyone including Frainn herself, that they had become a real duo. Real partners, despite the fact that he began to wonder about his new friend. It was the both or them or nothing.
“You’re an experiment. You’re going to Alamogordo. However, I want to take my soldier with me to London.” He pointed at Frainn with his chin. So it was going to be nothing Colonel.
“The serum worked.” Steve sounded disappointed.
“I asked for an army and all I got was you. You are not enough.” He shook his head, groaning lightly. “Lockart, uh, Lokadottir… whatever. You stay with Rogers. I need soldiers who follow the orders, in order to win this war.” She nodded. She liked it better. She didn’t want to fight a war that wasn’t even hers to fight, if she had to team up with people other than Steve. He was already about to find out the truth about her and she would tell him, at some point, but she couldn’t risk everyone else to find out. She didnt want to be locked up by them or worse, being experimented on. Of course, even if they tried, it wouldn’t happen, because she was stronger and powerful even without her godly powers but, she didn’t want to cause another slaughter. The man that had taken his hat off stopped in front of Frainn and Steve and both of them raised their eyes at him when he talked to them.
“With all due respect to the Colonel, I think we may be missing the point. I’ve seen you in action, Steve, and Frainn as well. More importantly, the country’s seen it. Paper.” He motioned his hand to another man to his right. The latter brought them one of those newspaper like the one Frainn had seen before she went to the exhibition with Steve and Bucky. “The enlistment lines have been around the block since your picture hit the newsstands.” Frainn looked at the page the other man was showing to them. There was indeed a picture of Steve and Frainn, when he had picked up the door of the car and used it as a shield to protect both of them. “You don’t take two soldiers, symbols like that, and hide them away, keeping one of them in a lab.” He took the two friends by their soulders. “Do you want to serve your country on the most important battlefield of the war ?”
“Sir, that’s all we want.” Frainn nodded at Steve’s words. She was being patriotic only by imitating Steve so that she would be able to fit in more in this world. She had said before that she was Steve’s guardian angel, but they were each a little the guardian angel of the other. The bond that had been created and continued to strengthen implicitly between them remained inexplicable, even to Frainn.
“Then, congratulations. You just got promoted.” He shook hands with Steve and then Frainn, shivering at her touch even though she had tried to make their handshake as quick as possible. The Colonel had choosen nothing, none of them, but this man chose both. It was the best decision because it was really either both of them or none of them. You don’t split a team that works well together.

A compilation of my favorite reactions to this blog.
@kumaoftheforest on Mirio inheriting One for All : (Link)
I honestly feel like Mirio’s clothes would get blown off every time he’d us OFA
Best Jeanist could take him on as a sidekick: he repairs clothes, Mirio destroys them. Don’t forget to recycle, kids!

#this hilarious to me because i joke about quirk ethics laws all the time
Oh god, I would pay good money to watch a courtroom drama set in a super-powered universe. Can you imagine how busy the jurists must be in a society where people have different abilities yet supposedly are equal in the eyes of the law? They would have to write new rules whenever a new quirk manifested. Complete juridistical nightmare. I think Pixar’s “The Incredibles” kind of touched on that with citizens suing superheroes for destroying buildings while battling supervillains, but it’s framed as them being whiny. It’s a cop-out, in my opinion. The concept of superheroics is deeply problematic from a political and legal point of view, not to mention the issue of secret identities.
Granted, Horikoshi does seem to imply that the laws of BNHA’s universe are indeed complicated. There’s a lot of red tape in place to prevent people from using their quirks in key situations. Shinsou was not able to integrate the hero course because his quirk doesn’t work on robots, but one has to wonder if the entrance exam wasn’t planned to exclude people with mind-control quirks on design. It’s tough determining in which situations people ought to get robbed of their free will, so my guess is that U.A. High saved itself the headache and made sure people like Shinsou failed the exam. Shady.
It’s also apparent in the Stain arc when the police conveniently decides to cover up the way Todoroki, Iida and Midoriya illegally used their quirks. It’s completely absurd that these young people would be punished for arresting a serial killer, so law enforcement agrees to look the other way. But that implies they also do that in certain circumstances for some of their men, which has unfortunate implications. Do the policemen in BNHA’s universe routinely use their quirks even though they’re not allowed to? Urgh.
There are a LOT of things wrong with the superheroic system as it stands today. Gran Torino even admits that he got his hero license so he could use his quirk more freely and that he doesn’t do actual hero work. Apparently no one is supervizing him. The more you look at it, the more you realize that people like Endeavor and (early-series) Bakugou are not exceptions. They’re the extreme examples of the worst behaviors the system encourages.
@meowmeowmin on Todoroki trying to bond with a fly: (Link)
Flies only live for 24 hours
Don’t tell him that! Do you want the entire area to get frozen?
@bandanagiggle on Kaminari buying a vuvuzela: (Link)
Ms Joke sold it to him
The fiend! Worse part is, she told him to serenade Jirou with it.
@iputthepaininpainting on a Todoroki/Bakugou household wife swap: (Link)
Actually I can see this being very good. Bakugo's dad has a nice cup of tea w/ Todoroki's mom so they can talk about how much they love their sons while Mitsuki puts the fear of god in Endeavor!! Good stuff!!!
Let’s hope the children aren’t involved in this, actually. Shouto is very reserved so Mitsuki would always assume he’s sulking or hiding something. Bakugou’s constant temper tantrums would also be difficult for Rei to handle given her aversion to violence. Or maybe I’m being too harsh on Bakugou? He canonically knows she has mental problems, so I imagine he’d make an effort to be less abrasive around her.
That being said, Mitsuki may make Endeavor even worse. The last thing he needs to learn is how to replace his illegal, horrific abusive behavior with socially accepted, casual corporal punishment. Mitsuki is problematic but only insofar as the way she treats Bakugou is something society accepts. Bakugou is violent because he was raised in an environment where violence is a tolerated form of expression. The way she educates her son is terrible but it’s fair to remember that no one really taught her any better (not even her husband).
@pikazuku on Bakugou’s hug deception: (Link)
#This could go two ways#I don't know which one is the true route
When I wrote this I intended Bakugou to actually be sick. So he’s contaminating Deku on purpose and sparing Kirishima. It’s funnier that way, at least in my opinion.
@jukeydragon on Toga being the only girl in the League of Villains: (Link)
#but#uraraka#what bout magne?
I’m assuming you haven’t read the later chapters of the manga.
LIGHT SPOILERS FOR SEASON 4 OF “MY HERO ACADEMIA”:
Without explaining things in too much details, the League of Villains experience some changes in staff management to the point that Magne is no longer considered part of the League. That’s why Uraraka referred to Toga as “the only girl” in this post.
@pinkcandyphoenix on Midnight curing Eraserhead’s insomnia : (Link)
#Actually a Eraser head and midnight friendship would be really cute and wholesome#Bnha#I am tempted to write about it
As a dominatrix, Midnight is tough on crime and punishes any misbehavior in the strictest way imaginable. Eraserhead would definitely respect that. She falls into the same mold as Present Mic in that she looks like a buffoon but is actually very efficient and professional.
@hotforhandman on All For One being a better father figure than Shigaraki: (Link)
#😂😂😂 I don’t think afo is a good dad but this is funny
If All For One were a good dad, he would have told Tomura Shigaraki about chapstick. Joke aside, I do think that the worst aspects of Shigaraki’s personality (namely his petulance) were actually encouraged by All For One. He needs him to remain in a child-like state because his arrested development is deeply rooted in his devotion to his “Teacher”. The risk being that if Shigaraki matures, he might develop ideas of his own.
That’s probably why All For One is secretly satisfied to be in prison right now. Now that they’re separated, Shigaraki can grow as a leader without any risk of disagreeing with his mentor. In fact, his efforts to free All For One from prison will only make him more devoted. All For One needs Shigaraki to idealize him, not to see him for the piece of garbage he really is. Throughout the series we see that he actually remains pretty distant and communicates with Shigaraki through conference calls, which might be on design. He can’t let his pupil too close to him or the illusion of “good parenting” might be broken. The distance keeps Shigaraki yearning for his approval and affection.
@zerounitrgb on my answer to @eva-white-11‘s criticism: (Link)
I am... really tired of people interpreting everything as romantic/friendship. They didn’t choose their pairings, they stayed together because who splits up during an attack, and you’re right, Toko would probably go crazy for anyone that saved him and got hurt in the process. Not to mention Shouji is training to be a hero so he... you know... did his JOB.
Yes. That’s also why I have my own difficulties with Ochako/Bakugou and Todoroki/Yaoyorozu. I recognize that both boys acknowledged the girls were very good in combat and clever, but that’s not a compliment, that’s a fact. They’re just giving credit where credit is due. Although in Bakugou’s case Horikoshi was probably making a commentary on sexism (with Bakugou treating Ochako as an opponent first and a girl second), people tend to interpret them as him teasing a possible romantic connection. And that’s what unnerves him, actually; that our culture is so sexist that a man acknowledging a woman’s competence is automatically interpreted as romantic interest, because why would a guy compliment a girl on anything if he wasn’t trying to get into her pants?
My gripes end there. I actually like both ships, I just have issues with people presenting these interactions as “canonical” proof that Horikoshi is teasing anything romantic between these people. Characters compliment each other A LOT in “My Hero Academia”, it takes more than that to establish a relationship.

Leaders vs supervisors
We have had our new 2nd shift supervisor being in charge for the last 2 weeks. This last week was his first week flying solo.
Our department head wandered onto the production floor for a change and decided to bother me...I mean inquire about a few things with me. I'm one of the few operators who doesn't run away when he's near. I'm also not a millennial.
So it went as follows. (I only sort of apologize for the length.)
G (East T Department Production Manager)
M (me, level II operator)
I'm at the end of my line checking finished parts.
G: So I've observed something...
M: (thinking to myself - please go away so I can do my job, of course you observed something, you have a crow's nest view of the whole department... Duh) Hi, sir. And what have you observed?
G: Well, you can stop checking parts while we talk. (So I stopped) I've noticed that 2nd shift's production is up, even above weekly targets which have nearly quadrupled in the last 8 months. Would you happen to have any idea why or how this is occurring?
M: Well, sir, we have been working 6 and 7 days to make what we've been told is target. Now you're saying that in 5 days we've hit a 7 day target? Am I correct in understanding what you said? (Mentally yes I know why this is, let's test the manager)
G: Yes, that's accurate. 2nd shift scrap is down, totals are up, fewer parts are being held for quality rechecks. So do you have any clue why?
M: (why did you pick me to bother, why not go ask P?) Well, sir, do you know about when this change occurred? (Yeah, probably 2 weeks ago)
G: Well it started with increased production goals just after plant shutdown. But really the numbers have changed greatest in the last 21 days.
M: Sir, I'm pretty sure you could ask anyone in this department this question and get a similar answer. But it's having a good leader.
G: What do you mean?
M: (mother of God either this is a test or you're a fucking idiot, it's probably both) Well, I'm not trying to speak I'll of anyone, but you saw the biggest change starting the day P took over as our supervisor. The change boils down to the difference between a good leader and a good supervisor.
G: But all supervisors are good leaders.
M: (how deeply do I want to dig this hole for myself) Sir, I kindly disagree. Yes, there are supervisors who are good leaders, but not all good supervisors can be good leaders. Please let me finish (as he goes to interrupt me). P taking over changed the outcome of each day because P is a good leader and right now, most of us would jump at the chance to make him proud to be our supervisor. P was 3 years a line operator, 7 years a set up tech, and now he's our leader. Most of us probably don't see him just as a supervisor because he's not just that. He's not just supervising us, he's leading us. He's leading by example. He's a good leader who is also a supervisor.
G: But nothing has changed. Just the person at the desk.
M: That's my point. It's the change in 'command' structure. P has been one of us as operators. He knows how frustrating these machines can be. He's fixed them for 7 years. Again, I'm not trying to come off as mean, but there's a difference. And it shows. J was an outside hire and never ran lines, never did setup. He knew next to nothing about half of the equipment. He'd rather goof around than listen to someone having a problem. He'd never be available to help his team do better.
I'll give you two examples from my perspective.
You don't want me running these two lines. Because I'm not speedy like B or C. But you know we're shorthanded so you're tolerating me being in these 2 lines. I've had 45 minutes of training on 6 by 3 different people in 3 different occasions and 3 different parts. I'm still nowhere near comfortable with that line. And it needs a constant observer, we don't have one. Which is why you get what I can eek out in 8 hours. As I self teach. If I have an issue, I can go to P who leaves the desk to come help me and then teaches me what he did to fix the problem. I've learned more in 3-5 minute fixes from him than I did from all 45 from 3 other people.
G: OK, go on.
M: Second. Earlier this week I had a bad night on 6 I lost track of time and I had both of these tables full to check, mark, and basket. I had a full out table on 6 that needed to be carefully checked before carting. I had all that and 10 minutes to get numbers and turn in paperwork. J was still doing the end of day supervisor sign offs. P heard my issue. He asked a coworker to empty 6 and check the parts. I was finishing paperwork and went to go dump this line and I found both tables cleared. I asked E if she did it. She said she didn't know how. She told me P, my supervisor did it. P saw an operator having a problem and he solved it. He didn't need to do all of it, he didn't need to do any of it. But he chose to, leading by example.
Now at the end of the night, whoever is done first walks lines and offers to help others who need a hand. Yes, the person changed, but so did the job. If we need help P gets us help or comes to try to fix it himself and it shows.
Good leaders lead. Lead by example. Lead the way. Lead their team. Good supervisors observe, oversee and supervise. P is a good leader. K is a good leader even before he got TL promotion. J is a good superving TL, he's not a leader. Not like P & K are.
G: That's a very astute and detailed observation.
M: You asked. I answered the way I felt best answered your question.
G: Apparently I need to spend more time on the floor.
M: It would let you see things as your staff sees them. You hounding J about my line being redlit doesn't seem like you read the hourly sheets. Do you know that this line has been breaking drills, inserts in Op1 and 3 every 75 cuts? It's in my hourlies. Just because you see a redlit line doesn't mean that the operator isn't trying to keep the line running. You see from your office lines idle, you aren't seeing why.
G: Thank you for speaking with me, get back to work. Oh and make sure you go talk to P at the end of shift.
M: Uh. OK sir. (Oh great you stepped in it...) I waited all shift and went to talk to P at the end of shift.
P: I need to talk to you after everyone else clocks out...
M: Uh. um. OK. I guess.
P: It's nothing bad.
M: OK
Everyone else bee lines for the clock.
M: You needed to see me boss?
P: Whatever you said to G earlier had him on the phone to me as soon as he got back upstairs. No. That's not a bad thing. (He hands me and envelope with my name on it.)
Me: I'm confused.
P: Go clock out and open it before you leave.
M: (cloak and dagger bs is not good for my anxiety) OK, see you tomorrow P.
P: grinning, you too.
I go to clock out, get in the hallway to the exit and open the envelope. Out falls a gift card and a 2 sheet folded paper.
The letter bore my name and said that I was being recognized for my honesty, my diligence and for the education I gave my department head.
The second sheet was a certificate bearing my name and the title Level III operator. Along with the words $0.50/hr pay raise. Signed by both G and P.
Apparently G was confused because I'd never gotten moved to lvl III even though I had been with the company more than a year and had mastered the hardest line in our department. J never submitted the request. It was filled out sitting in the drafts of the department supervisor email since thanksgiving.
G called P to ask why I hadn't gotten a level promotion since august. P inquired and fixed the oversight. G also gave P a gift card too. For leading his team well.
My gift card was because I taught an old dog a new trick.
G was in on Saturday mid shift and was walking the lines watching his operators and his equipment. 1st shift wasn't happy he was there, but apparently some minor issues got fixed quickly because it was stupid to ignore the problems.
Lead. By. Example.
Don't push from behind. Pull your team up. Make them better by choice.

A while, back, these people did a highly popular “SOLAR FREAKIN’ ROADWAYS!!” video on YouTube, and an equally popular Indiegogo campaign, more than doubling their goal of 1M USD.  But...it kinda fell off the radar.
I wanted to bring it back into at least a little attention so that people know it IS progressing, and making good strides.  They’ve fixed a lot of issues over the last four or so years, and feel that they finally have a product that can make it to actual driveways and roadways and last long enough to start paying for itself (since the costs will still be quite high for several more years to come).
(...My not-so-secret goal, if I win a major multi-million-dollar lottery, I’mma buy a big chunk of land on which I want to eventually build a custom house, and I’ll pave its driveway and parking area with Solar Freakin’ Roadway panels, so you could say I’m keeping an eye on this company.  I’m dreamin’, but I’m dreamin’ big.  Aim for higher than you think you’ll ever reach, since goals are important, and figure out how be happy in the momentwith whatever you do actually reach at each stage...because big goal dreams take time...just like R&D.)
Research & Development always takes time.  As an author, I get to handle and use the elusively rare, infrequently sufficiently stable element Handwavium when describing science fiction, particularly its progress.  For the development of OTL technology in my IaVerse, I had them going from unmanned probes successfully transiting and transmitting hyperspace to actually having a (small, but still more than a dozen) fleet of ships transporting actual humans to new star systems in just 10-15 years.
That’s a VERY short period of time...but a lot of the ship designs were for small transport shuttles using insystem thrusters (aka sublight but still way faster than anything NASA, et al, currently use)...because I used yet more of that atomic Handwavium element for getting ships quickly around the local star system.  I also had the discernment, antigen development, and then mass-manufacturing and distribution of innoculation programs for entire planets taking place in approximately one month.  That is hella short timing for medical research at early 21st century standards, and we can finally replicate DNA in mass numbers to the point that DNA testing is now relatively cheap and efficient.
But real Research & Development takes time.
So I’m not at all surprised it’s been this many years to get to the SR4 panels (Solar Roadway version 4.0) mentioned in the above blog.  These panels have many different components, all of which interact in different ways, chemically, thermally, eletrically, structurally...
In The Terrans, first novel of the First Salik War trilogy, I believe it was Li’eth who commented that “these people” (Terrans) had all sorts of renewable resources for their energy, including wind generators, hydroelectric dams on rivers, solar roadways (not sure if I mentioned solar energy generating window panes, but they’re there, too), and of course the famous hydrogenerators that burn water.
What I didn’t clarify was that nobody on earth actually used hydrogenerators to power cities.  Why not?  Because that still takes quite a lot of water, and that water is pretty much permanently lost.  It’s far easier to install solar roadways, windows, and rooftiles, along with battery banks, heating elements, so on and so forth.  Is it cheaper?  That...depends on how you view costs.  From a strictly financial standpoint over the short or medium run, using dollars or creds or whatever...no.  It’s not cheaper, by far.
But it spares the environment in the long run.  Not just the long run of preventing global droughts from overuse of hydrogenerated energy, but the long run of catalysts getting loose in the environment.  Now, the catalyst won’t cause an explosion if it’s dumped directly into water, but it will work at a slow rate on dissolving the molecular bonds between hydrogen and oxygen.
(And before anyone yells at me that it isn’t possible, that is exactly what real world plants do.  “Plants' powers of photosynthesis allow them to harness the energy of the sun to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen at separate times and at separate physical locations in the plant's structure.” Apr 15, 2013 https://phys.org/news/2013-04-blueprint-cheap-hydrogen-production.html  This just happens a lot slower and at a much smaller scale than the hydrogenerator catalyst, and it isn’t then pumped into a system of engines to burn and use explosive energy and thermal Sterling engines to recapture heat loss as electricity, etc.  Yes, I put actual science into my science fiction...though admittedly I do use a lot of Handwavium to bind the molecules together.)
New colonyworlds will use hydrogenerators, because they often arrive on the colonyships with the intent of first powering the ships to get there, then security the initial landing site, and then being removed and repositioned in various locations to expand various satellite settlements.  Once the settlements are large enough and thriving well enough to develop the local resources (slicia for silicone and glass, metals for, well metals, blah blah blah), then they invest in a lot renewable resource energy generation.  They do ship a lot of it in from off-world to help relieve the strain on the hydrogenerators, which are best used for large vehicle transport needs, but the goal is to get to the point in the infrastructure and manufacturing process that it can be done locally.
But again...Handwavium on how long all of that takes.  Generations, technically, because it’s literally a case of first having sufficient manpower (even if non-sentient AI robotics are used to speed the process, they have to be supervized, plans drawn up, etc, etc) and sufficient infrastructure (food & shelter & protection from wildlife are higher priorities), etc, etc, etc.  Which is why on Dabin, they still have power lines running out from major manufacturing plants to sell surplus energy to local homes & businesses, supplementing the interim changeover from hydrogeneration to passive generation methods.
Anyway, that’s all in my head and stuff, but a lot of what’s in my stories got inspired first by real-world things, like Solar Freakin’ Roadways.  And I’m still hoping one day to hit it big, and be able to afford my own SR driveway.  I’m also hoping some of you hit it big, and go the same route, too...because the more people who buy this stuff, the large amounts they can mass produce, the bigger the infrastructure will get to be built to mass produce them, and the cheaper these sorts of things will become.
So, dream big...but dream responsibly.  We don’t have hydrogenerator tech, and in this universe it’s probable we never will (Handwavium is only safely handled by theorists and authors and artists, but remains ephemeral at best), so...go for the real-world tech that we know will be good for the world for years to come.

A terrible shipwreck
but even through this, life was saved and Paul’s mission to Rome continued on. and much of Paul’s writing has been conserved in the Letters he wrote to illuminate spiritual truth.
Today’s reading of the Scriptures from the New Testament is the 27th chapter of the book of Acts:
The date was set for us to depart for Rome, and Paul and some other prisoners were transferred to the custody of a Roman officer named Julius, a member of the Augustan Division. I, Luke, was permitted to join Paul for his journey to Rome, along with Aristarchus, a Macedonian brother from Thessalonica. We boarded a ship from Adramyttium that was stopping in ports along the coast of Asia. We stopped the next day at Sidon, and Julius kindly allowed Paul to visit friends and be taken care of by them. We sailed from there north of Cyprus because the winds were unfavorable. We passed Cilicia and Pamphylia on our right and then came to Myra in Lycia. There Julius found a ship from Alexandria heading directly to Italy, to which we transferred. The winds were still contrary, so we made slow progress for a number of days and with difficulty passed Cnidus and sailed south toward Crete and past Cape Salmone on its eastern end. Sailing conditions were adverse to say the least. Finally we came to a place called Fair Havens, near the city of Lasea on the south coast of Crete. We had lost a lot of time already—it was late in the year for sailing—following the Day of Atonement, and conditions had deteriorated from adverse to dangerous. Paul tried to warn those in charge.
Paul: Sirs, if we proceed, I can see that our voyage will be dangerous and will involve heavy loss, not only of cargo, but of the ship itself; not only of the ship, but also of our lives.
But the officer ignored Paul and instead trusted the ship’s pilot and owner who felt they could proceed.
We had two choices. We could anchor in the harbor at Fair Havens and spend the winter, or we could proceed west along the coastline, hoping to reach Phoenix and wait there for calmer spring weather. Fair Havens was not a good option, though, being vulnerable to winter storms; so most of us agreed we should try to reach Phoenix, whose harbor was more protected. One day a moderate south wind began to blow, which made an attempt possible. We weighed anchor and sailed west, staying near shore. Then things got scary. A violent northeaster, the Euraquilo, blew down across Crete. We were caught. We couldn’t turn and sail into this fierce wind, so we had no choice but to let it drive us. We briefly found a bit of shelter from the wind near the island of Clauda. We had been having trouble securing the ship’s lifeboat; but we were able there to hoist it up and send down cables to brace the hull, which was in danger of breaking apart under the strain of the storm. The wind was relentless, and soon we were again being driven southwest at the mercy of the storm. We feared it would drive us all the way to the Syrtis Banks, down near the North African coast, so we threw out the sea anchor to slow us down. All through the night, the storm pounded us violently. The next day, the crew threw the ship’s cargo overboard; and the day after that, they discarded any of the ship’s equipment they could do without. Days passed without relief from the furious winds, without a single break in the clouds to see sun or stars, even for a moment. Despair set in, as if all hope of rescue had been cast overboard as well. On top of all of this, the crew had been unable to eat anything because of the turmoil. Paul saw the crew had reached a critical moment. He gathered them.
Paul: Men, if you had listened to my warning, we would still be safe in Crete and would have avoided this damage and loss. I was correct in my warning, so I urge you to believe me now: none of you will die. We will lose the ship, but we will not lose one life. So keep up your courage, men! The God I belong to, the God I worship, sent a heavenly messenger to me this night. He said, “Do not be afraid, Paul. I’m not finished with you yet. You are going to stand before the emperor! You can be certain that God has granted safety to you and all your companions.” So listen, men: you must not give up hope! Keep up your courage! I have faith in God that things will turn out exactly as I was told last night. Here’s what I foresee: we will run aground on some island.
Imagine what happened: It’s the 14th night of our nightmare voyage; we’re being driven by the storm somewhere in the Adriatic Sea. It’s about midnight, and the sailors are taking soundings, fearing we might run aground. “Twenty fathoms,” somebody calls out in the darkness, then a little later, “Fifteen fathoms.” We’re nearing land! But hope quickly gives way to a new fear. At any moment in this darkness, they realize, we could be smashed onto unseen rocks. So they drop four anchors from the stern and pray for first light.
Then some of the crew decide to make a run for it on their own. They say they need to let out more anchors from the bow, and this will require lowering the ship’s lifeboat. They actually plan to abandon us; we realize what’s going on. Paul quickly speaks to the officer and soldiers.
Paul: Unless these men stay on board, you won’t survive.
So the soldiers intervene, cut away the lifeboat, and let it drift away. We wait. Just before dawn, Paul again gathers everyone on the ship—all 276 of us. He urges everyone to eat and encourages us not to lose hope.
Paul: Listen, men, we’ve all been under incredible stress for 14 days. You haven’t eaten anything during this whole time. I urge you to take some food now because it will help you survive what we’re about to face. And I want to assure you—not one of you will lose a single hair from your head. We’re all going to make it—all 276 of us!
Then Paul takes a loaf of bread and gives thanks to God in front of all of them. He breaks it, takes a piece, and begins to eat. A fresh surge of courage seems to fill their hearts as they also begin to eat. After satisfying their hunger, the crew lightens the ship by throwing the remaining wheat overboard. Day finally breaks. They survey the coastline and don’t recognize it, but they do notice a bay with a beach—the best place to try to run ashore.
So they cut the anchor ropes, untie the steering oars, hoist the foresail to the wind, and make for the beach. But then there’s a horrible sound, and we realize we’ve struck a reef; the bow is jammed solid, and the waves are smashing the stern to pieces. The soldiers start talking about killing the prisoners so they won’t swim away and escape; but the officer wants to save Paul, so he stops them. He tells those who can swim to jump overboard and swim to the shore, and those who can’t, he tells to hold on to planks and other pieces of the ship when it breaks apart. Some hours later, we reassemble on the beach, each one safe and sound.
The Book of Acts, Chapter 27 (The Voice)
Today’s paired chapter of the Testaments is the 18th chapter of the book (scroll) of Isaiah where God acts to humble pride:
O land abuzz with the whirring of wings,
far away past the Ethiopian rivers,
With papyrus-reed boats shuttling ambassadors back and forth!
Go quickly, you messengers, to those impressive people,
Those fearsome and terrifying people so lank and smooth.
Theirs is a powerful nation divided by rivers.
All citizens of the world, every last inhabitant of the earth, pay attention!
When you see a signal raised on the mountains, look!
When the trumpets sound the alarm, listen!
Because the Eternal told me,
Eternal One: I am in control—calm and serene.
I am watching quietly from where I dwell
Just as surely as the heat shimmers in the blazing sun
and the dewy mists cool the warmth of a harvest day.
For even before the harvest begins, when the buds blossom
and the flowers make way for the ripening grapes,
God will cut back their shoots with pruning shears,
lop off and clear away the spreading branches.
He will leave the trimmings for the birds of prey
and the wild animals on the mountain.
The vultures will feed on their flesh during the summer,
and the wild animals will be nourished on their bones through the winter.
Then those terrifying peoples—the lank and smooth from far away,
from the land divided by rivers, powerful and domineering—
Will honor the Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies, with gifts.
These proud people will bring them to Mount Zion,
Where the Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies, has placed His special name.
The Book of Isaiah, Chapter 18 (The Voice)
A link to my personal reading of the Scriptures for Saturday, june 26 of 2021 with a paired chapter from each Testament of the Bible along with Today’s Proverbs and Psalms
A set of posts by John Parsons that looks at the significance of the inner life and how our actions begin there:
It is remarkable that the traditional morning blessing recited at synagogues around the world begins with words attributed to Balaam, the enigmatic and self-styled prophet: Mah Tovu: "How lovely are your tents, O Jacob; your dwelling places, O Israel!" (Num. 24:5). The sages say that the word "tent" (אהֶל) refers to the inner life – how we really feel inside – whereas the word "dwelling" (מִשְׁכָּן) refers to the outer life - our place or circumstances. Together, the inner and the outer mark the quality of our lives, but the inner is the starting point, since we must first learn to live in peace with ourselves. This is vital: we must first tolerate our shortcomings and practice compassion toward our frail humanity... This is sometimes called shalom ba'bayit, "peace in the home" (of the self). Such inner peace is the greatest of blessings, since without it we will cling to pain, fear, and anger, thereby making us unable to find our place at the table in God’s kingdom of love. [Hebrew for Christians]
Tumblr media
The "doctrine of Balaam" (ἡ διδαχή Βαλαάμ) is the wicked strategy of enticing others to sin by encouraging them to "eat food offered to idols" and to engage in sexual immorality (Rev. 2:14). This was how Balaam was able finally to curse the Israelites at Baal Peor, after all (see Num. 25:1-10; 31:16). In short, Balaam's doctrine was one of "syncretism," advocating a mindless "tolerance" that arrogantly claimed that all religions are equally true, and therefore all are equally false... Such "tolerance" is a charade for moral and spiritual nihilism that creates weakened people easily controlled by political fascism. In ancient Rome, official "tolerance" led to the brutal intolerance of the "Imperial Cult" where the power of the State (represented by the Emperor) was worshiped. In our age, the doctrine of Balaam first entices people to "eat food offered to idols," that is, to partake in the irrational dogma of "absolute tolerance" and unthinking universalism. After opening the heart to accept such idolatry, sexual immorality is the natural expression, a consequence of self-deception. We must remain vigilant: God sets us free from the slavery of surrounding culture to become a witness of the truth. Assimilating with this world and its political ideals and cultural idols is a form of spiritual adultery. Do not fool yourself: Whoever makes himself a friend of the world is an enemy of God (James 4:4). [Hebrew for Christians]

The Meek of the Earth
“Seek ye the LORD all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD’s anger.” (Zephaniah 2:3)
This phrase, “the meek of the earth,” occurs three times in the Bible (see also Psalm 76:9, which promises their salvation; and Isaiah 11:4, which assures them justice). Our text promises deliverance from God’s wrath.
“Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5), said Jesus, referring to the promise of Psalm 37:11: “But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.”
There are many other similar promises: “The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way” (Psalm 25:9). “He will beautify the meek with salvation” (Psalm 149:4), so we need to put on “the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price” (1 Peter 3:4).
That meekness is not weakness is made clear from the first use of the word in the Bible. “Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth” (Numbers 12:3). Moses was strong and courageous, but also deeply humble and self-sacrificing; a man of prayer and trust in the Word of God, willing to defend it at all costs. The Lord Jesus defined meekness in terms of His own human character: “Learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart” (Matthew 11:29).
A meek spirit enables a Christian to maintain composure in the face of opposition, to accept adversity without complaint, promotion without arrogance, demotion without resentment. It produces a peace that no trouble can disturb and that no prosperity can puff up. Therefore, as our text commands: “Seek meekness!” HMM

[Victoria walks into the classroom, wearing glasses and clothes that don’t match her usual fashionable standard of dressing]
Taylor- Victoria ?
Victoria- Y...yes ?
Taylor- What is this ? [motions to Victoria’s clothes]
Victoria -  [adamant] I’ve always dressed this way
Taylor-  You’re telling me you’ve always dressed like a librarian ?
Kate- [speaks up from back of the room] I think she looks NICE
Victoria-  [looks down and to the side, muttering] Thank you.......
[Victoria shuffles past her confused friend and sits next to Max]
[Max immediately focuses her attention on Victoria]
Max- Seriously though [leans on desk] What the hell ?
Victoria - I found out what power I got .....
Max- What is it ?
Victoria- You still have rewind right ?
Max- Yeah ? Wh.....
[Victoria slaps her hand down on Max’s camera, and shatters it into a billion pieces, along with the desk]
[Max immediately rewinds and seizes her reformed camera from the desk, shielding it protectively]

Paper代写:Corruption in Indonesia's new order
Indonesia is one of the founding countries of the association of southeast Asian nations, the largest economy in southeast Asia, and an important strategic partner of China. Indonesia has been a colony of the Netherlands and Japan for quite a long time, and the domestic situation is quite complicated. In particular, "collusion of cliques, corruption and bribery, money politics" has become a key word in Indonesia's social and political life. In terms of corruption, Indonesia can be compared with the most underdeveloped African countries in the world, which seems quite out of line with its economic development.
Indonesia's economy has been growing well since it emerged from the 1997 Asian financial crisis, but corruption has not abated. Indonesia is the most corrupt of the 16 major investment destinations in the asia-pacific region surveyed, according to a survey by hong kong-based political and economic risk consulting firm. Out of 10, Indonesia scored 9.0, ranking first. Remarkably, Indonesia has been ranked first since 1995. Since suharto's ouster, successive governments have introduced policies to curb corruption, but corruption remains a cancer in Indonesia's social development. From the perspective of the development history and characteristics of Indonesian society, to understand this problem, the money politics in the new suharto order cannot be ignored.
Indonesia had long been under colonial rule until 1945, when it struggled to gain independence and international recognition. The first leader, sukarno, took office in 1945 and was forced out in 1965. The period of sukarno's leadership in Indonesia can be divided into two phases, that is, the period of parliamentary democracy and the period of led democracy. The period of parliamentary democracy is the initial period of independence, when there are still many colonial legacies in Indonesia. On the one hand, Dutch capital is ubiquitous in Indonesia, which to some extent inhibits the development of Indonesia's national economy. On the other hand, in order to ensure Indonesia's independence as soon as possible, national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and recover west irian, the ruling class led by sukarno made economic sacrifices in the round-table conference and assumed the 4.3 billion Dutch guilders debt of the Dutch east India government. In this special case, the government is eager to develop the domestic economy, restrict foreign investment, and encourage and support domestic enterprises. However, in addition to maintaining the same attitude towards political unity and the implementation of indonesification in economy, all the forces have different views on other issues, the cabinet is in turmoil, the military forces are gradually rising, and there are still power struggles inside, so the policy cannot be sustained for a long time, and the economy of Indonesia has not been well developed.
In 1957, the country's political system changed from parliamentary democracy to a leading democracy. Changes in the political system have led to policy changes in economic management. The central bank implements comprehensive regulation and supports soes, sets up "political priority projects", and gives them a lot of preferential policies and fiscal subsidies. However, state-owned enterprises are inefficient, fail to use national policies to improve their competitiveness and production efficiency, and are seriously corrupt, which not only fail to contribute to economic development, but also aggravate the fiscal burden of the government. In general, under sukarno's administration, Indonesia basically achieved the two major goals of gaining recognition of independent statehood and getting rid of the control of Dutch capital on the economy. In this special period, politics took precedence over economy, and economic interests were sacrificed to a large extent in order to achieve political goals. However, this was a time of political instability and internal strife, which made it difficult for economic policies to be scientific, efficient and stable, and the country's overall economic situation was not good.
In 1965, the "September 30 movement" broke out in Indonesia. Suharto, a former soldier, forced sukarno to transfer power to himself. However, since Indonesia had a relatively complete political party system at that time, the military regime still needed some legitimacy to realize its long-term control of the country. So suharto began forming "professional groups" to prepare for his own election. In the 1971 general election, golkar won 62.8% of the vote and controlled 327 of the 460 seats. People's consultative conference in 1973 through the "dual function" soldier, the army is not only a military power, but also a social forces, the same year by suharto "simplify the party makes the other party" increasing disputes, a professional group for six consecutive election victory, the military role of the trinity: became an independent political force, control and master production, participate in country management. Suharto did not ignore the importance of economic construction. He set out to form a professional technocrat to carry out economic planning, stop the nationalization of foreign capital, and try to develop the economy and adjust the industrial structure. By this time Indonesia had become effectively a military-controlled technocracy.
This period of political stability was accompanied by the problem of corruption brought about by excessive concentration of power. On the one hand, military professional groups not only hold the power of the state and control the policy output, but also directly participate in the establishment and operation of enterprises. It is a tradition for the military to participate in economic activities in Indonesia. As early as during the war of independence, the military had to raise its own expenses to maintain the war, so it began to conduct some profits-making but dishonorable transactions, such as opium trade. It can be said that there is a certain tradition for the military to engage in business. In 1957, when the Indonesian government implemented the "war emergency" and the status of the military began to rise, they began to take advantage of political privileges to intervene in economic and administrative affairs, such as taxation, issuance of enterprise certificates and formulation of preferential policies, so as to seek economic benefits. In 1958, Indonesia launched a nationalization campaign of Dutch enterprises. The operation and management of this campaign were mostly carried out by military officers, which led to a large number of state-owned enterprises directly into the hands of military groups.
On the other hand, suharto kept the power of the state firmly in his own hands through three means: first, he fully grasped the power of the army through reform, reorganization of the army, removal of dissenters, promotion of his cronies to important positions, and regular change of leadership positions. Second, the simple principle of merging smaller parties into two big ones made the parties too feuding to pose a threat to suharto's professional group. Third, we should reform and improve the local administrative system, build local development planning bureaus and urban planning bureaus, control local areas and strengthen the centralization of power. As a result, state power was arguably ultimately vested in suharto, and in this case he and his family embarked on a wild and corrupt campaign to plunder society's resources. With the exception of suharto, who as President was not directly involved in business, his relatives relied on his power to run businesses. A distant relative of suharto's wife, sugandani guidosarzono, thanked suharto for his protection during the political campaign by donating money to her and prospered under his tutor.his business empire expanded rapidly and he became President of the Indonesian chamber of commerce and industry. Suharto's three sons and one daughter each run businesses in a wide range of sectors, including real estate, animal husbandry, forestry, aviation and banking. In addition, suharto's children have gone abroad, setting up businesses abroad that have monopolized the import and export of steel, plastics and other goods. Transparency international ranked suharto as the world's most corrupt head of state in the 20th century, with $15 billion to $35 billion of public money embezzled by his family.
The madness of suharto and his family has long provoked discontent, but thanks to the army's tight grip on power and the silencing of opposition, it is unlikely to last. When the Asian financial crisis broke out in 1997, Indonesia's economy was already full of hidden dangers. Financial markets continued to wobble, currencies plunged and unemployment rose to 13.5 million. What's more, disaster never comes singly. At the same time, a severe drought occurred in Indonesia, which led to large-scale grain production reduction, food supply difficulties, rising fuel prices and soaring prices in various regions. In February 1998, students launched large-scale demonstrations and demonstrations. In may, the situation became even more serious. "may storm" occurred in Jakarta, bandung, yogyakarta and other big cities. On May 18, suharto was forced to resign.
When the financial crisis first took hold, Indonesia responded by fully floating its currency. The move intensified fears at home and led to a rapid outflow of foreign capital. Therefore, the central bank began to withdraw money and introduced "liquidity assistance policy" to provide liquidity support. However, as Indonesia has been plagued by corruption for a long time, weak bank supervision and corporate governance, some people took advantage of the opportunity to seek personal gains, and the policy did not achieve the effect of containing the crisis. In October 1997, the government of Indonesia invited the imf to help overcome the crisis, hoping to cope with the crisis with the help of the imf. After analyzing the situation in Indonesia, the international monetary fund proposed three requirements for measures, including: Further tightening fiscal and financial policies to achieve the target of the national balance of payments budget surplus of 1.3%, and setting the upper limit of the base currency; Rectify the banking industry: close down "sick" Banks; Implement a series of measures to stabilize the economic situation in the real economy. But the plan to save Indonesia failed, mainly because of the government's credibility problems caused by chronic corruption. In the closure of the bank, the international monetary fund are 34 bank list after review, but the government only agree with closing 16, and not the public the original list, Banks and politicians corruption talk at this moment, the public and investors, including the international monetary fund have lost hope for Indonesia, stem the crisis of the process is slow.
The orgy of wealth amassed by the military junta and the suharto family during the suharto years has led to a tradition of corruption that every government must confront. When he became President after suharto's ouster, habibi set up an anti-corruption commission to clean up corruption in the suharto family, but he was not trusted because of his close ties to suharto. So instead of tackling corruption in Indonesia, Mr Habibi lost an election and stepped down. After habibi wahid government also has not made great achievements, wahid leadership in congress for the construction of power, policy limitation, as for the cases in the treatment of the suharto's younger son, tommy and suharto's corruption case, don't have enough courage and wisdom come from the bottom of the sewers, eventually to former President suharto corruption in this way, let the national largest publicly corrupt, also let more rampant corruption activities. Megawati sukarnoputri and yudhoyono, both of whom took office after wahid, have made efforts to fight corruption, but they have achieved little, and they cannot win the support and trust of the public because they cannot solve the corruption problem well, so they cannot win re-election in the following elections.
Corruption is a complicated system engineering, until today, Indonesia is still a high degree of corruption in countries are incredible, suharto period serious corruption brought the Indonesian society deep scar, that scar is not in the short term can be healed, it needs to develop and implement a comprehensive, thorough and lasting policy, the current anti-corruption work for Indonesia is still a long game.
