Come With Me V
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
Warnings: mayhem, destruction, emotional manipulation, poisoning, self sacrifice, mcd, hurt/no comfort
Villain was silent apart from the coughing spells that became more and more frequent as Hero sped through City. Several times Hero found themself opening their mouth to say something, but closing it as they thought the better of it. Where do they even begin?
Hero was saved from having to say anything as they pulled into the secret driveway that led to Base. "Let me lead, Villain. You're in no shape to fight."
Villain opened their mouth to protest, but a cough cut them off. "That's my point. You just focus on finding the antidote and I'll focus on disabling Superhero."
Villain nodded. They handed Hero a communicator. "Call me if you need my help."
Hero pocketed the communicator knowing full well they wouldn't call Villain. Villain was poisoned because of them. "Villain, listen, I--"
Villain smiled as they started off toward the research center. "Save it. If....If you want to talk after everything is over, I'll be all ears. But none of this," they waffled their hand around, "words said out of desperation. We can talk after."
Hero nodded and sprinted off to where they suspected Superhero would be waiting. "Took you long enough," Superhero growled as they loosed a fire ball at Hero's head as Hero rounded the corner to Superhero's office.
Hero had just enough time to jump back. "What the fuck?"
Superhero frowned. "Oops. I missed."
"What is wrong with you?" Hero crouched behind the wall, knowing it would give them ample cover to hide.
"You took too long to get back. Once I saw you were clear of the building, I knew that could only mean one thing." Superhero's voice was as cold as ever.
"And you didn't think that maybe Villain had kidnapped me? That I was being tortured for information Villain could use against you?" Hero couldn't believe that Superhero, their mentor, their leader, could be so cold and callous. They hadn't wanted to believe Villain. Hadn't wanted to, but deep down they knew Villain was right. And hearing Superhero talk now confirmed it.
Superhero laughed as they blasted the wall out from over Hero's head. "Villain would never hurt you. They may not be a lot of things, but they are sentimental." Superhero launched another fireball.
Hero ducked and rolled out into the hall, sending bolts of electricity at Superhero. Superhero blocked Hero's attack with a wall of fire. "They are so predictable."
Hero was up and running before Superhero could take another shot at them. This was not good. Superhero was just too powerful. They just had to keep Superhero distracted long enough so that Villain could get the antidote and getaway. Villain would keep fighting against Superhero. Hero could buy them enough time as their atonement for not believing Villain. For not trusting Villain.
"And you're not?" They placed their palms on the ground and sent a powerful current into the floor.
Superhero leapt into the air, avoiding electrocution with ease. "I can be predictable. I have more power." Superhero sent flames towards Hero, blocking their exit. "And this is the end of the line, Hero." They raised a fist of fire.
Hero closed their eyes. They said a silent apology to Villain that this was the only time they could buy for Villain. It would have to be enough. Hero was strangely at peace with being destroyed.
"For you, maybe," Villain's voice, though weak, rang down the hallway.
Hero wrenched their eyes open to see Superhero turn with flame coated fist towards Villain. Villain aimed a weapon Hero had never seen before at Superhero. Villain's arms shook with the effort to hold and aim the weapon.
"Pathetic. You can't even raise it all the way. You are weak. You are filth. You are nothing."
Villain smirked. "That may be true. But at least I'm not evil."
"You are powerless. You cannot stop me. You don't even know what that does, do you?" Superhero sneered as they stepped towards Villain, flames twining down their other arm.
"Do you?" Villain's eyes flashed as they caught Hero's gaze. "Duck!" They roared as they fired the weapon at Superhero.
Hero couldn't exactly explain what happened as they ducked. One moment Superhero was there, flames spiraling towards Villain, the next a wave of energy passed over them and they were gone.
"Oh thank goodness," Villain said as they sank to their knees. "You ok, 'ero?" Villain asked as they began to cough again.
"Did you just..."
"Convert the form of energy that the matter making up Superhero to another form using an energy based weapon? Yep." Villain coughed harder, specks of blood flecking their lips and the back of their hand.
"Whoa, hey, hey! Villain, what about the antidote?" Hero hurried down the corridor to where Villain knelt. Hero couldn't breathe around the lump in their throat. This was not happening.
Villain lifted their head weakly, their face paler and sweatier than ever before. "DDDDDoesn't-t-t-t-t ex-ex-exist." They tilted forward, but Hero caught them, keeping them from falling.
Hero began to cry. "Tell me what to do. Just tell me what to do and I'll do it. What do you need?" Hero could feel Villain struggle to take a breath. Could feel the heat emanating from them. Could feel Villain dying in their arms.
Villain blinked up at Hero. "There'ssss nothing. It's...It's.....It's 'k, 'ro." Villain took a choking breath. Their breath rattled deep in their chest.
"No," Hero sobbed, "no, you can't die. Not after....not after everything. I need you, Villain. I.....I....I love you."
Villain pressed a shaking hand to Hero's cheek. They sucked in as much air as they could. "I love you, Hero. I.....I....I nnnneverrrr st-st-stoppeddddd." Villain closed their eyes tightly against pain as they coughed. They coughed and coughed, their body shaking with each movement. "It'sssss 'k, 'ero. 'm 'k w-w-w-ith th-th-thissssss. Y'r 'k." Villain's touch on Hero's face began to slip away as Villain closed their eyes.
Hero put their hand on Villain's, keeping Villain's hand on their cheek. This wasn't happening. This was all their fault. They should have gone with Villain all those years ago. Why hadn't Villain give up on them? Hero had given up on Villain. Why hadn't Villain given up on them? "Was it," Hero sniffed, "was it all worth it? All the pain, all the hate. Was it worth it?"
Villain's eyes fluttered opening. Their eyes blazed with the passion Hero knew filled their being. "It.....w-w-was if....if....if.....I wassssss rightttttt. I," they took a wheezing breath, their eyes clouding with pain, "tooooook a ga-ga-gamble on....on...on the sl-sl-slimmmmmm chancccceee I...I....I was right." Their eyes fluttered closed as they took another shallow wheezing breath.
Hero tapped Villain's cheek, unwilling to let Villain leave. They couldn't leave. They needed Villain. "But was it worth it? Worth being the villain in everyone's story?"
Villain opened their eyes slowly, eyes clear once more. "I....was....nnnnever the v-v-v-illain in yyyyyourrrr st-st-story, H-H-Hero." Their breath rattled in their chest as they gasped. "'nd I w-w-wassss right."
Hero let out a howl of pain as they watched the light in Villain's eyes die. Let out a heartrending sob as the wheezing, rattling breaths stopped. Let out the sound of their heartbreak as the only person who they ever truly loved and was loved by died in their arms. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry," Hero sobbed into Villain's hair. "Please, please, come back. Come back. Please. Please. Villain. God. Please, come back. I need you. I'm sorry. So sorry."

“You’ve seriously never thought about us kissing?” The superhero crooked an eyebrow. “We’ve been marinating in sexual tension for three years now.”
prompt by @gingerly-writing :> <333
“You’ve seriously never thought about us kissing?” The superhero crooked an eyebrow. “We’ve been marinating in sexual tension for three years now.”
The villain choked. Went to hide their blushing face.
When they cracked two fingers apart to peak, the superhero was still staring at them through their cell's reinforced bars.
"No," they said. "You're a bit too terrifying."
That was not entirely true. The superhero was terrifying, yes. Loved by the masses. Feared by the criminal underbelly of the city. But the villain was enamoured, hopelessly, by that. The contrast between their charming, friendly persona that was reserved for the masses and their true cold, calculating, dangerous demeanor left the villain hopelessly pining after them. They were incredible, truly. Perfection.
They ran their hands down their heated face and looked up.
The superhero's perfect face stared down at them. The villain looked down at their crossed legs instead. "I thought you were just toying," they mumbled. "With the flirting."
Silence, again. The villain glanced up at the superhero through their lashes.
The superhero tilted their head in observation. The villain pressed their lips into a thin line and crossed their arms, hunching their shoulders.
The superhero crouched down to meet their level. The villain tucked their chin in and leaned back, refusing to make eye contact. They heard the rustle of the superhero's gloves slipping off of their fingers. They dropped to the floor, right in front of the bars. The villain could've reached out and taken them.
"It doesn't change my offer," said the superhero. "I get you out of this cell in exchange for a kiss."
Had it not been for their dark skin, the villain was sure they would've lit up red. But they couldn't accept the offer, surely. They imagined even a brush of their fingers would leave the villain dizzy and swaying on their feet.
They recalled, once, they'd thrown a stun bomb at the superhero and had them incapacitated for almost ten minutes. The superhero had risen up, suit torn (because they had it remade every day, since it was not completely reinforced so that the public could get glimpses of their skin—and that always, always left the villain faint).
They'd had them up against the wall, smiled down, body radiating heat, and said, "well, aren't you incredible?"
The villain's knees had turned to jelly instantly.
"I can get out of here on my own," they mumbled, biting their tongue right after they spoke so their mind wouldn't conjure up more memories.
"Is that so?" The superhero feigned a curious tone. "A little birdie told me you've bruised your whole body trying to break these bars."
The villain winced. They properly glanced up at the superhero, then, and saw they had their cheek resting on their fist. Their eyes were lazily hooded. Their other hand rose to trail fingers down their neck, to the side of their collarbone.
The villain's hand rose, automatically, to their own collarbone, to the bruise there that was exposed by the loose neckline of their shirt. They pulled it close. Their cheeks flushed for a different reason, then; they hated this cell and the way it suppressed their powers. It felt like one of their limbs had been cut off. They hated the Scientist—the villain that had trapped them here—for finding a way to suppress their powers even more.
They straightened their back. "Liar. This cell's shut down my powers. Maybe it's done that to you, too." They glanced back at the number of fortified doors the superhero had sauntered through when they first entered. They could've broken through those doors with ease.
Once more, the superhero crooked an eyebrow. They lifted their cheek from their fist and closed their fingers around one of the steel bars. The villain watched as it corroded beneath their skin.
They blinked. "Oh."
The superhero spread their hand in a voila gesture, raising their brow. "Oh."
Dumbly, the villain pursed their lips. They seriously considered the offer, then. Glanced, traitorously, at the superhero's lips. Thought of how it would feel to have their mouth pressed against that lovely pair.
Their lips buzzed with sensation. Oh, they felt dizzy right then.
"I'm not an idiot, in case you weren't paying attention," said the superhero. They tilted their head and raked their eyes down the villain—intoxicating. "I can hear your heart thumping like a bunny on caffeine. I always have."
The villain squeaked and put a hand over their heart, as if that would do any good. "You—you make me nervous."
The superhero smiled, then, all sly. "I know I do."
The villain's flush heightened, impossibly so. They didn't even know they could get this flustered. "This is unfair. You knew."
"I'm a very unfair person."
"I'm bad."
The superhero shrugged. "I'm terrible."
The villain clenched their fists. Everything felt very, very hot.
The superhero leaned in. They caught the villain's chin through the bars, bare, callused fingers rough and warm on their skin. "You're good," they said. "You're very good. You're exceptional, able to outsmart even me, and you just keep your talents on the down low so that no one targets you."
Again, the villain pursed their lips into a line. Wobbly. Burning with the phantom sensation of the superhero's mouth on theirs. They had nothing to protest with, then, just the heat curling all around their body, fingers going shaky. "You'll take me out."
"Mm." The superhero tilted the villan's chin as much as the bars allowed them. Ran their fingers around the underside of their jaw. Skated up to touch one burning cheek. "To dinner. Or lunch." The corner of their mouth quirked up, devastatingly sharp and evil. "Or a nice little rooftop if you kiss me." They scraped their thumb along the curve of the villain's bottom lip.
The villain's lips parted automatically. They took in a quivering, nervous breath. "You'll get me out."
"Of course."
"How long have you liked me back?"
The superhero looked pleased. That smile, god, that smile. It wasn't made for the cameras. It was evil, mean, smug. It made the villain's heart flip hopelessly. "I might let you know if you kiss me."
The villain clutched the bars and leaned close. The steel brushed cold against their cheeks. They had to know. Was it after they first drew the superhero's blood? Or from that time one of their inventions sent the superhero flying through ten walls? Or one of the times when they had the villain blushing, pressed flush to a wall?
The superhero chuckled to themselves, gently tipped the villain's chin up, and kissed them.
The villain sighed and pulled them close and the superhero pulled them closer. Their hands snaked beneath their shirt and ran over their back, their sides, teased the edges of their waistband. It stung just slightly from the bruises, but the heat that their hands left in their wake left the villain too brainless to think of anything else but them.
The superhero leaned back first. The villain would've followed their lips mindlessly if it hadn't been for the bars. But instead they stayed there, breathless, lips burning, cheeks still pressed to the steel bars. They tapped the corroded edge of the bar the superhero had touched in urgency.
The superhero ran their hands around the bars in a huge circle, and they snapped right off. The villain barely had time to get to their feet before the superhero had scooped them up into another kiss. This one was hungrier, eager for a proper taste, and the villain had to tiptoe to properly kiss them. They leaned back for air.
"Since the stun bomb," said the superhero. "I've wanted a smart, pretty thing like you since."
"O—oh." The villain wasn't sure how to properly respond to that. They were already afraid they'd been misjudged on the smart part, maybe the superhero had kissed them dumb. But they found that they didn't need to respond, because the superhero was kissing them again.
They walked out hand in hand. The superhero dropped them off on a nice little rooftop, cheeks still burning, lips still buzzing and swollen.
The villain touched a hand to their cheek, feeling the heat there.
Oh, they were head over heels.

Winter's Kiss - Part 2
Sorry I'm rusty but I had a nice time working on this!
Tumblr media
Part 1
Most people assumed that having ice powers meant Villain was immune to the cold. Surely being surrounded by her element only comforted and empowered her further.
What it really meant was that Villain had never truly been warm in her life. Always haunted by a biting chill that rooted in her bones and flooded her veins.
The summer months were easy enough for her to stay regulated in. Her body naturally fended off the scathing blaze of summer sun, meeting something close enough to equilibrium that she didn't have to shiver.
Winter was different. The scales dipped in one, unanimous direction. There was nothing to balance the overwhelming cold, steely and all-encompassing.
Thus, fighting on an icy rooftop, bitter wind stinging her cheeks, and frost clinging to her lashes, did not put her in a particularly amiable mood.
“Shouldn't you be wearing a coat?” she snapped at her nemesis, fighting off the urge to tremble as ice shot to life in her numbed palms.
Hero landed neatly in front of her, blushy nose and pink ears the only indicator that the weather affected him at all. His lips bloomed in a too-pleased smile. “Nope. The new suit has intelligent thermal-regulatory technology. In other words, I'm toasty as…uh…toast. Shouldn’t you?”
Villain’s gaze flicked over him. She could see, now, the steam radiating around him from his stupid heated costume.
Her skin ached for a taste of that kind of blanketing warmth.
A coat did her little good when the cold stemmed from the inside out. She hated him for it. Her glare was as sharp as the icicles in her hands.
Hero stepped closer and his smug smile faltered. He looked her over in turn. “Are you….cold?”
If she could glare any harder, her eyes would bleed.
“My entire existence is cold, I have never not been cold,” she said through clenched teeth. “Now let's wrap this up, Sunshine, so that I can go home and set the thermostat to 85° and hope that maybe, just maybe, I can take the edge off this- this corpse-numb, never-ending, godforsaken winter!”
Her bones felt only distantly attached to her body, dull and torpid as a rotting log.
She took a step toward him and her knees buckled beneath her. Hands caught her waist, lowering her to the ground.
Her breath caught up in lungs scraped raw, mind sweeping blank. All she could focus on was the delightfully warm palms against her sides.
“Villain?” Hero’s brow knitted in concern. Pulling one of his gloves off with his teeth, Hero touched a hand to Villain's cheek before wincing and shaking the icy sting from his bare fingers. “Sh*t, Villain, you're beyond freezing.”
Villain was barely listening. She reached for him as if magnetized, clutching at the heat emanating from his chest. Something pathetically close to a whimper slipped free at the barest fraction of relief, dropping her face against the blazing hollow of his neck.
Hero hissed against the no-doubt unbearable cold of her skin against his. She couldn’t bring herself to care, and he didn’t shove her away.
There was a pause.
“.....Let the record show that you’re the one cuddling me this time.”
Villain scowled. “Shut up.” Her fingers flexed against the smooth fabric of his suit. “This is- is just temporary, and then I’m going to stab you in the face.”
Fingers stroked her hair, brushing the accumulating snowflakes away. There was a click and shuffle as Hero shifted, wrapping her trembling form up in his cape.
“Stab me tomorrow. We’ll rain check.” Scooping her into his arms, Hero stood up.
“Hey-”
“Don’t worry, babe.” Hero’s stupid sunny smile was back, teasing and prettier than she cared to admit. “We’re nemeses with benefits, I don’t actually want you dead. Most of the time.”
Villain’s cheeks might have warmed if she could feel them. Her teeth chattered. “Sp- Speak for yourself, Sunshine. And don’t say nemeses with benefits. You’re em- embarrassing me.”
Hero’s feet lifted off of the ground and they were moving through the air. Villain glanced down at the world below them before shielding her face from the abusive wind with his cape.
He could drop her to shatter on the pavement. Fragile as ice.
They touched down minutes later, and Villain didn’t bother to pull the cape away from her face to check where they were. Maybe if she pretended to be asleep, Hero wouldn’t put her down… She couldn’t imagine peeling herself away from the shallow reprieve of his body warmth.
Hero shifted Villain’s weight into one arm. Metal jangled, followed by the rustling of a doorknob. Pushing it open with his foot, she felt Hero cross the threshold.
Peeking through the threads of Hero’s cape, warm lamplight washed the room in a honey glow as he clicked on the light. He shut the door and locked it.
Her ears perked up at the familiar crackle of flames dancing nearby. She tugged the cape down just below her eyes, still blanketing her nose and cheeks.
Hero chuckled. “That got your attention.” He pulled a chair in front of the fireplace and sat down with her puddled in his lap. His free hand smoothed back her hair, staticky from his cape. “Better?”
The glorious heat rolled over them in waves, and Villain bared her pink fingers toward it, eyes fluttering closed. “Mmm.”
Lips summer-hot and gentle pressed against her jaw. Warmth sparked low in her belly for an entirely new reason. Her breathing stuttered, turning her face toward his.
Hero took an icy hand in his, blowing warm breath against her knuckles.
The bone-deep ache began to thaw. Her eyes glued to his.
Her beautiful, insufferable,.. kind idiot.
She leaned in. “If you tell anyone about this, I’ll kill you in your sleep.”
A haughty and fond smile lit up his face. “Kill me when winter ends.”
Eyes flitting down to his perfect mouth, Villain caught his searing lips with her own. They chased the chill away together.
Neither of them wanted winter to end.

Prompt #221
“Hey,” Villain said as Superhero stumbled sleepily into the kitchen. Supervillain’s attack had left them both stranded in this small town last night, but from the way the hero froze in their steps, they’d either forgotten or expected Villain to disappear in the night. As if Villain was putting down money to share this Airbnb just to be petty and ditch. That was Superhero’s style, not theirs. “I bought you a coffee.”
They pushed the steaming cup across the table.
“I don’t want it.”
“Alright, but the coffee maker here doesn’t work, and I know you don’t actually want to walk the mile to the coffee shop in your condition.”
They waved haphazardly at Superhero’s bloodied and torn super suit. They must have been too exhausted to change out of it last night.
“That bruise on your face can be a conversation starter.”
Superhero glowered. “Fine. I’ll skip coffee.”
Villain rolled their eyes. “Stop being a brat.”
“A brat?” Superhero fumed. “I’m older than you!”
“Really? I could have sworn you were five. Now shut up, brush the evil cooties off the coffee cup, and start helping me figure out how we’re going to get out of here.”

"What do you mean I'm not a villain? I'm the most wanted person on the planet."
"I'm just saying, what villain stops a fight mid-battle just to save a cat from a tree?"
"It's a cat. Cats didn't wrong me, society did."
"Well, you're making me look bad. How is it going to look if I arrest you right now?"
"I levelled the city."
"But then you saved the cat!"
"Okay, you know what? I'm going to kill you now."
"Honestly, dying would be better PR than arresting you."

prompt #1
Villain with a Superhero as their older sibling! and despite being a villain, superhero is too much of a sweetheart to abandon their younger sibling because they're the only family they had left.
but! since they're sort of short on money..and Superhero won't accept robbed money, it was an unspoken agreement that their "secret" base is either in the basement or the attic because one or both of them couldn't afford one. like..
superhero goes into the basement because they used it as a storage room for their other belongings despite it being villain's base
they see villain interrogating their teammate and goes behind them.
"So that's why you better give me information regarding the agenc—"
Superhero puts their hand on villain's shoulder "Villain. what did i say about kidnapping my friends??"
Villain got obviously startled and looked behind them, smiling sheepishly while Hero looks at the both of them confused. because why the fuck is Superhero here?? and did they just imply that they've discussed about this before??
"I- uh..erm. uh." the villain stammers.
then a few moment of scolding like a mother scolding their child later, Superhero helped untying Hero.

No. 38
////
Villain is disguised as a Hero and Superhero takes them to a safe house.
////
Villain had only ever seen Superhero from afar. He was a sharp line, silhouetted in red by the rising sun on the eve of battle. He was a streak of gold, tearing through opposition with a sure hand. He was a squared figure with shoulders pulled back, hands curled round and claiming the podium in front of him as he addressed the crowd with a voice that bellowed chest-deep.
Walking beside him felt like trespassing, like treading the line between concept and reality, and Villain startled as Superhero squeezed his shoulder.
“We’re almost there. It’s right down this street.” Up close, quiet, Superhero’s voice lost its bold tenor. It was soft, scraping, catching along each word like the gravel under their heels. The sound slid down Villain’s spine, too textured, too real and the pressure of Superhero’s hand suddenly screamed into his nerve. Villain held back every instinct to wrench himself away. Trapped beneath his sternum, fear writhed like a dog with a frothing mouth.
“Sounds good,” Villain hummed. He let his body rise back into Superhero’s palm and recalled each bone below. He thought about the thin, winding clavicle and the curved back of his scapula; he thought about the tendons and muscles drawn between. He thought about how easily Superhero could choose to clamp down and shatter him all the way through.
Superhero drew his hand away and Villain sagged, tucking his sigh of relief into a shallow cough as he lingered a few steps behind. It was easier this way, to stare at his back, to break him down into the line of his spine and the breadth of his shoulders. He wondered how many steps it would take for Superhero to completely dissolve into the distance. The clouds of ash would smear him grey and formless. The wasteland would enfold him.
Superhero turned, debris churning beneath his boot, “are you coming?”
“Yes.” A hound cried in the distance. Villain jogged forward.
////
The safehouse had only lamps for light. Superhero set one on the table and wiped the oil from his fingers as the flame flickered in its glass shell, casting a molten, wavering glow over the small room. He sighed and sunk into an old armchair. Like the couch Villain was settled in, its cushions were clotted with dust and soured by mildew, but Superhero slumped into it all the same, tilting his head back toward the yellowed ceiling tile.
Once more, Villain’s stomach jumped at the wrongness of the sight. Superhero belonged in throne rooms, with a mantle of velvet cast over his shoulder and a crystal wine glass pinched between his fingers. He should’ve only been visible in the fullest light, rendered in sharp edges and planes, constructed in poise and power, and nothing more.
The rusty light and warm shadow sunk Supervillain further into the chair. Flaring, the glow licked across his knuckles as they rolled and tensed, and Villain discovered that the back of his hand was scraped raw. The darkness implied scratches and furrows, but Villain couldn’t see the blood; the shadows were too rich and flushed in the lamplight for the red to show.
But Superhero could see blood. Of course, he could see, with those inhuman eyes, animal pupils swollen black in the dark.
“You’re bleeding.”
Villain's brow twitched. He knew where the cut was; a bright line of pain arced from his ear to the base of his skull. At first, he’d thought it was sweat, slipping down his neck, but it was warmer, slower, and grew tacky as it seeped into his collar.
“It’s fine,” Villain replied, tongue dry, not daring to look away from Superhero. He focused on the shadow beneath Superhero’s brow. It deepened as Superhero frowned, sinking into the folds of his skin.
Superhero tilted his head and dragged his gaze across Villain, slow, methodical, and keen. Villain’s arm was thrown over the arm of the couch and his spine bent to accommodate the sagging fabric behind him, which cast his legs in a long and languorous sweep. It should’ve been an easy posture, but Superhero saw the hard, locked angles of his joints. He saw the way Villain kept his head from hitting the cushion, neck straight and jaw drawn so tight it made his cheeks ache.
“It’s safe here,” Superhero assured and Villain almost bared his teeth, “you can relax. Once headquarters receives our distress call, they’ll come and retrieve us. It’ll take no more than a few days.” Superhero’s voice was soft again, softer than it was on the walk there. The syllables slinked, lifting the hairs on his arms.
Safe. Villain pushed his tongue against the back of his teeth, staving off a grimace. How safe could it be, sitting alongside a man steeped in shadow–a man who could rend the very room in ribboned halves?
“I am not used to battle,” Villain’s breath cracked, and he wished it was fake. He wished that each pitching breath was for show, rather than real fear leaping onto his tongue. “I’m terrified,” he looked up and Superhero stared back, “scared of it all.”
Superhero rose from his chair and Villain curled further into his seat, tucking his heels beneath the underside of the couch. “I’m fine,” blood slithered down behind his ear, “just nerves. Everyone gets a little shaken up after a big battle.”
The lamp flickered, flame jumping as Superhero bumped into the table and settled on the couch beside Villian. Fabric rustled. Dust floated up around Superhero’s thighs, glimmering like floating embers in the light before drifting down to his feet.
“Your fear doesn’t make you weak. You don’t need to excuse anything.” He settled a hand on the couch, leaning forward. His face was stiff, focused; his sclera burned orange. “There’s no shame in injury either.” Villain glanced down Superhero’s knuckles, finally able to follow the red–dark, deep, and ripping all the way into his forearm, disappearing between the torn fringes of his sleeve.
“I believe we’re both guilty in that regard,” Villain whispered. He willed his sternum still, scarcely breathing.
“Yeah,” Superhero smiled, keeping his eyes on Villain’s, “it’ll heal fine though.” Superhero leaned further on his arm. Villain wondered if it hurt, wondered if Superhero even felt the blood slipping down the side of his palm and onto the cushion. “Do you mind if I take a look at your head? You’re probably going to need to bandage it. Head wounds are never pretty.”
Villain had pushed so far into the end of the couch that the side of his leg burned, but Superhero was still so near. His weight spilled over, sinking into the space strung between them, and Villain felt his presence like a phantom touch, clutching his shoulder and cupping his ribs; awareness blazed along his side. Villain blinked. He breathed through his teeth and Superhero waited in perfect stillness, predatorily calm.
“Sure.” He turned his head toward the wall and offered his up his ear. In front of him, there was a window, cracked, fogged, and warped with age. Water had broken through and rotted the mantle. He tried to follow the dripping lines where rain had eaten through the wallpaper and spliced it into wilted silver whisps, but his vision swam, trying to climb back into his head, into the weeping wound.
“Do you mind if I move your hair?” The couch creaked. Superhero shifted closer.
“Whatever helps,” Villain spoke to the spiderweb fractures in the window. He listened to Superhero’s breath, then felt it as it washed over his blood-matted curls, a warm, dragging breeze.
His first touch was tentative. Fingers whispered into his scalp, slipping across his skin like a sigh. Villain should’ve flinched, should’ve lurched, should’ve done anything to snap the tension corded and coiled in his chest, but Superhero’s terrible hand was tender. Villain could only spill forward and clutch the arm of the couch. The fabric scraped against his palm.
“That bad?” Superhero asked, touch retreating as Villain slumped away.
“Just getting comfortable,” Villain whispered. Any louder and he felt like he would choke. Again, he tilted his head and proffered his hurt for display.
Superhero was firmer this time, parting his hair, letting the wound breathe. As Superhero prodded the hot, bruised skin running astride the cut, Villain exhaled and rested his chin on the top cushion, looking at the window again. The glass had taken a silver sheen, misted with the onset of rain. The first droplets carved delicate white arcs downward before settling in the broken seams and divots.
“Someone got a pretty hard hit on you.” Superhero noted, finding that purples of the bruise spread much farther than the neat tear. Villain knew that much. Supervillain had grinned before swinging the iron end of his staff into the base of his skull.
Villain hummed in affirmation.
////
“You’re bleeding.” Villain echoed the statement, much later. The candle had burned out sometime during the night, and white morning light washed through the room in its stead. No longer warm, no longer tucked into the bed of shadow, Superhero leaned back into his chair in an arrogant sprawl. He should’ve looked untouchable again, divinely separated from the world around him.
But his fist trembled against his stomach, bunched in his shirt.
The cloth was stained. Terrible. Red.

Snippet 5
Part 2
The door closed behind them.
Hero moves away, having trouble with the stupid layers of veils covering her face. She had told Supervillain that she would marry him, but on one condition.
Only he could see her face. No other villain would, no one else except him.
The wedding was very grand and ridiculously large. Seeing as Supervillain and a Hero were being married because of a stupid treaty or deal, the whole city came. Which was way ridiculous.
But it wasn't annoying either.
There were no vows and there was no kiss, seeing as her face was covered and no one but Supervillain, maybe, would see her face.
She heard a click, the door being locked.
She turns, seeing a peek of the Supervillain leaning against the door through her veils.
Her dress wasn't that extravagant, but it was quite pretty and poofy, a bit revealing on the necklines but it was quite beautiful. The lace at the bottom was quite intricate.
Supervillain stands upright and takes a few steps forward, his gaze deadly and dangerous but it also had a unique type of gentleness. Something Hero didn't understand.
"Well," Supervillain smirks. "You said you'd marry me on one condition. It's time you hold up that end of the bargain,"
Hero hesitates.
"Oh, and don't try to back away now. Your mine now," Supervillain grins, his eyes flashing. He moves closer, only a few feet away. "You belong to me."
Hero let's out a breath. "This does not mean I belong to you." She grumbles before shedding the first layer of veils. She keeps doing it slowly, almost teasingly.
Supervillain watches her eagerly, wanting to see her face.
Hero hesitates at the last layer, which was kinda see through. She slowly peels it off, her eyes clenched closed. She slowly opens them as the veil drops to the floor.
Supervillain feels like the breath was knocked right out of him. He's heard the villain and many other criminals rant in annoyance about Hero, but seeing her like this was something else.
She was absolutely gorgeous.
So breathtakingly beautiful.
She was so pretty.
Her hair, was open and curled for the ceremony with small white flowers stuck in it.
Her face and skin, so gentle and soft.
Her eyes, so unique and glowing.
Her lips, so pink and plump.
Hero swallows hard, staring at him with nerves. She wrings her hands together, chewing on her bottom lip.
Supervillain tilts his head, his staring a bit irritating for her. It was like he was analyzing her or something.
Hero sighs. "What?" She says, fed up.
Supervillain stays silent for a few moments. "Hmm," he hums. "It's nice to put a face to the voice. Finally," he nods.
Hero rolls her eyes. "Your insufferable, you know that?" She glares hard at him.
Supervillain continues staring. "Now, now, darling." He smiles, moving closer to tuck a stray hair behind her ear. She shivers. "Remember who I am. I'm your husband,"
Hero pulls away. "And I'm your wife. This goes both ways," she tells him.
Supervillain tilts his head, staring at the small features on her face and planting them in his brain. She was so beautiful, he couldn't stop staring at her.
Hero sighs through her nose. "Now, I'm going to go change. This dress is already so ridiculous." She rolls her eyes and turns towards the bathroom, her heels clicking.
Supervillain watches her go, a smirk growing on his face.
Maybe life wouldn't be so bad with his witty and sassy Hero wife after all.

Snippet #14
CW: Chase scene(?)
The footsteps were getting closer. So close that [Villain] feared they wouldn’t be able to hide in time.
“Darling~ Where did you go?” The unsettling voice echoed in the corridor, far too close for comfort.
[Villain] frantically looked around for a door, a closet- anything.
Thump, Thump, Thump-
Their heart raced, as they grabbed the nearest handle and yanked it open.
“Eek!” [Hero] gasped as [Villain] smushed themselves into the tiny cupboard, “What are you-?”
[Villain] covered their mouth and frowned at them. “Be quiet you fool!” They whisper-shouted. [Hero] hiccuped, looking wronged.
“Bae?” [Superhero’s] irritated voice resounded in the corridor yet again. [Hero] and [Villain] looked at each other, terrified.
“I heard your voice! I know you are here… somewhere…” The voice trailed off as it approached the door. [Superhero] grimaced at the red ribbon spilling out from the gap in the doors. Well, guess I found [Hero], they thought with a strange sense of disappointment.
Meanwhile, the two in the cupboard were scared stiff.
Then, [Hero] gave [Villain] a teary look that the latter knew all too well.
“OH HELL NO.” [Villain] shrieked, and the door slammed open.
Before [Superhero] could do anything further, a trembling [Hero] was shoved into their arms and [Villain] took the chance to dash away.
“COME BACK HERE THIS INSTANT.” [Hero’s] idol yelled and chased after their lover. [Hero] was left behind, confused.
Ah? So they’re dating?

June of Doom Day #21
| Memory Loss |
June of Doom Prompt List
"Oh Superhero..."
Superhero sighed as they felt arms wrap around them from behind, a chin resting on their shoulder. "You're thinking too hard..."
Hero's tone was light and playful, but Superhero could hear the concern there. They wanted to know what Superhero was thinking so they could help.
But Superhero couldn't tell them.
How were you supposed to explain to your romantic partner and closest friend that they'd once been a villain? One who they'd kidnapped and who's memory they'd wiped? One who they'd spent the last year lying to to try and get them to properly reform?
And now that they'd succeeded, that it weighed so heavily on their conscience that they couldn't look at their partner without feeling guilty?
"Sorry," Superhero sighed. Sorry for everything. "Just... there's that new Supervillain case that's been stressful."
"Well," Hero hugged them closer. "Is there anything I can help you with?"
Superhero had been trying to keep Hero and Supervillain as far away from each other as possible, not wanting old experiences with Supervillain to possibly trigger Hero's erased memories. Supervillain and Villain had been close, and if anything was going to bring back Hero's memories, it would be them.
So Superhero had made sure Hero worked on every case except for Supervillain's. They made sure Hero was always kept too busy with other things whenever Supervillain became a problem again.
Superhero shook their head. "I think I've got it, it's just overwhelming."
"I'm sorry, darling." Hero rested their head against Superhero's, smiling faintly. "I'm sure you'll get them once and for all."
And hopefully not try and do a memory wipe on them. Villain thought, knowing they shouldn't say that part out loud.

Prompt #18 - Dessert Creation
Tldr: After an awful battle Hero goes to a rooftop to mourn the loss of their beloved Villain. Hero sobs about their mistakes and the regret they have for not confessing sooner to Villain. Villain is alive mutual confession ensues. Hurt/comfort, Dessert Creation Villain x Hero
CW: Talk of death, implied death, burns, mourning, blood, dissociation
Hero had failed. They'd failed to recognize Supervillain's master plan. They failed to help when the other heroes needed them. And perhaps worst of all, they had failed to save their Villain.
They only arrived in time to watch Villain get burnt to a sugary crisp by Supervillain. The flan shield they created around themselves was no match for the raw firepower Supervillain released. The unrelenting blaze charred any chance of Villain's survival.
Hero had only processed what had happened next when they found themselves sitting on the edge of a familiar rooftop.
Everything felt like a blur to them. The burn on their shoulder was numb. The soot on their cape unnoticed. The dried blood on their hands the only evidence confirming they ended Supervillain's reign.
Hero sat there for what felt like ages, gazing upon the city skyline until the lights smeared and scattered across their vision. Tears. Once they realized they were crying it felt like a floodgate opened. They couldn't stop. Hero pathetically wiped at their eyes with the backs of their hands.
Why Villain? Why Villain!?
Villain was one of the few villains in the city who wasn't some deranged psychotic menace to society! Villain would never think of harming anyone. They were just some goofy Villain who trapped people in toffee or put office buildings in jello or some other major inconvenience. They gave out candy when they were arrested and offered other villains lollipops in holding cells. They ate sugar cubes chronically and paid hackers to get your Pinterest account so they could spam you with dessert recipes.
Hero wished they'd told Villain how much they loved them sooner.
Hero was sure if Villain were still alive they'd make a joke about smelling like burnt cookies. The ash left behind didn't offer such comfort.
They reached a quivering hand into their pocket and pulled out a couple crushed sugar cubes. Hero cupped the cubes in both hands, closed their eyes and brought their clasped hands to their forehead. With a croaky voice they talked out loud, perhaps hoping their words would be heard.
"I miss you. God, I miss you." They sniffled and leaned into their hands, trying to steady themselves. "It shouldn't have been you. I should have gotten there sooner. I should have known what would happen. I should have reached out more."
Their voice cracked as they continued.
"It should have been me!" They openly weeped. "I was supposed to protect this city! I was supposed to protect you!"
"How am I supposed to go on knowing you aren't here! How am I supposed to patrol what's left of this shit hole of a city without you sitting on this roof beside me?
How am I supposed to patrol without you insisting we bounce instead because you want to turn the sidewalks to jello?
How am I supposed to enter your lair without you demanding I open the windows you can't reach because you paid extra for them and don't want them to go to waste?
How am I supposed to laugh when I can't hear your dumb jokes? Or see you put on a shirt backwards because you want to see if I'll notice.
I'll never hear you crunch another sugar cube like some goddamn horse ever again. I never thought I'd miss that noise but right now... Right now I'd give anything to hear that horrific crunching sound.
I'm so sorry for everything! For getting you killed! For never reaching out to know you better! For being a coward who couldn't even tell you how happy you made me! How much light you brought to everyone. How much light you brought into my boring empty life! I love you! I loved you!"
Hero collapsed into themselves, murmuring tearful confessions of love and regrets. They were completely alone now in this world. Family long gone, a job that wouldn't take too kindly to "vigilante justice", and just losing the only person in the world they cared about.
It seemed like they spent an eternity crying when a stutter step came from behind them.
They turned to find a roughed up Villain standing frozen, mouth covered by their hands and tears in their eyes.
They couldn't believe it. Their body moved on instinct as they ran to give them the tightest hug, holding Villain's head to their chest as they cried into their hair. Both parties were a mess of crying and "I thought you were dead's".
It wasn't until 20 minutes later that they calmed down enough to even begin talking, still holding onto each other for dear life.
"I thought I lost you." Villain sobbed, adding to the tear marks on Hero's suit.
"I thought so too." Hero returned. "When Supervillain sent that message I flew as fast as I could, but I only arrived to see you..." They choked on the words while Villain pet their back.
"You got there in time. I would have... you know... But your arrival distracted Supervillain enough for me to escape. The moment she took her eyes off me I dropped beneath the floor using the flan shield as a cover." Villain explained.
"But when I finally got out and back to the fight no one was there. The only thing left was a trail of blood and tons of ash. I thought she..." Villain reached up to Hero's face, firmly cradling their jaw as if to prove they were there.
"I'm here." Hero whispered, placing a hand over the one on their jaw and leaning into it. Neither were sure who leaned in first but it didn't really matter. They shared a tender and delicate kiss, neither wanting to hurt the other more than they had been today. It was clear they both felt this way about each other for a long time. To Hero, the kiss felt like home.
When they pulled away Hero was the first to speak.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
Villain's immediate response made Hero's heart sing. Their next move would surprise Hero even more.
"Let's run away together."
"What?"
"You heard me. Just me and you. The world thinks we're gone, no one will ask questions, so let's just leave. We don't have to play this stupid good guy bad guy game anymore! We can just go somewhere far away from this and live a happy life together! I want this. I want us! And I don't want any of this to ever happen again. I know this is sudden but-"
"Where were you thinking?"
"Huh?"
"I'll follow you anywhere, but I'd prefer some place rural. I don't think I like cities anymore."
The smile on Villain's face set Hero's heart aglow.
Two plane tickets and one shower later the two of them stood hand in hand on a runway.
"Hero? Is this a crazy thing to do?" Villain fidgeted nervously. Two squeezes on their hand turned their attention to Hero's face.
"Yeah. But I wouldn't want it any other way Sugar Cube." Hero said with a smile.
"Kiss for good luck?"
"Kiss for good luck."

Breakdown
Warnings: kidnapping, torture, restraints
"Hero," Sidekick called as they wandered through Base. "Hero, we have to go do--" But the words died in Sidekick's throat as they found Hero hunched over their desk, feverishly writing on a piece of paper. "Hero?"
"Can't talk." Hero didn't turn around. "I'm working."
Sidekick walked forward. Hero had been like this for days. And Sidekick wasn't exactly sure why. "What are you working on? Maybe I can--"
"Go away, Sidekick. You can't help me. No one can help me. It's all my fault," they said as they began to sob uncontrollably.
Sidekick had never seen Hero break down like this before. They weren't even sure they had seen Hero cry before. "There, there," they said gently as they patted Hero's back awkwardly. "I can try to help you. Tell me what's going on."
"I can't," Hero sobbed into their arms. "I can't tell you."
"When was the last time you slept, Hero?" Sidekick hadn't seen Hero leave this room in days. They had assumed Hero left and went to bed after they had. This display of emotion had them doubting that.
"I can't sleep. Not until I find them. I have to help them."
"Who, Hero. Who are you trying to save?" Sidekick tried to get Hero to look at them, but Hero only buried their head in their arms harder as they sobbed.
"Villain. I have to save Villain."
Sidekick tried not to recoil. "Why on earth would you save them?" They sneered.
"Superhero's gonna kill them. Instead of me."
***
Villain's chest was heaving as they sat in the chair Superhero had bound them to. The power suppressing cuffs kept them from breaking free. Kept them a prisoner for Superhero's torture.
"Why don't you just say it and we can be done?" Superhero paced around Villain. They had grown tired of this game. They wanted to end it. But they couldn't, not until Villain gave them the name.
"No."
Villain had been saying no for days. Days and days of denying Superhero. Days and days of pain and torture. Days and days of protecting the one person that mattered to Villain. Hero.
Superhero stopped suddenly in front of Villain, raising their fist high. Villain flinched. "You'll give me what I want. They all do eventually," Superhero chuckled.
"I'll die before I give you what you want." Though Villain was afraid, they knew their words were true. They would never betray Hero. Even if it killed them.
Superhero gathered their power as they raised their fist once more. "That can be arranged." And they released all their mighty power as they punched Villain in the gut.

The superhero went in to break the suturing thread with their teeth, and their breath brushed warm and tickled the villain's skin.
The villain shivered and gripped hard at the edge of the roof as though they'd fall. "Ouch," they said softly, a little helplessly, because their neck burned.
"Sorry."
The villain could hear the smile, so really, not very sorry. "That's not very hygienic," they mumbled. "I'm starting to think you want me to get infected and die."
"If I want you dead, I would've pushed you off this roof the moment I saw you."
The villain blinked, because they hadn't really thought of that, just of accidentally falling, so maybe they were a bit more dazed from the fight than they'd like to admit.
There was a grin in that sentence, too, though. The villain was grateful that the superhero was tending to the wounds on their back because then they wouldn't see the red creeping up the villain's face. The villain scraped their heels against the building's side to try for a distraction.
The superhero's knuckles pressed into the villain's tired, aching muscles as they dressed the wound. The pressure was so warm and relieving that the villain imagined melting into it, imagined the superhero holding them, like a delusional idiot. Then those hands left and the cold night felt colder.
The superhero lightly tapped the villain's elbow with a finger, so gently they could've imagined it. "Rest this on your knee," they said, so the villain brought their knee up and put their arm on it, and the action hurt because of the way the wounded muscle had to stretch, but it was nothing the villain couldn't handle. But the wounds were a little bad, they supposed, if the superhero was going to patch him up.
Or, perhaps, the superhero was just too good for this world. Or maybe the villain looked just that pathetic. Whichever came first. Both made their heart squeeze in largely different ways.
They'd seen the superhero work, on TV. They'd made him do commercials back then, intermissions where he'd teach children how to do this, that, how to fix the dishwasher, how to dress a wound. Sometimes help the wounded on field. Back when they were a child, when the superhero was merely termed hero or saviour, because they were the first of a long line of many. Back when they were terribly young to do such selfless things, to protect the city from such horrible horrors. But they'd been quick and meticulous then, and had only grown better. The suturing was painless and barely felt.
"I don't think you don't want me dead," the villain said.
"I wouldn't waste my supplies on you if I did," the superhero said playfully. The villain's mind caught on to the use of my supplies as though it meant anything. Stored that in a stupid special place. Like a smitten thing.
"My," they said, tried to put a cheeky smile to the words, "you make me feel so special."
The superhero paused behind them chuckled, then resumed with their work.
A beat of peaceful silence passed.
"You shouldn't be out here," they said eventually. They pushed overgrown hair away from the villain's neck, exposing scarred skin there. "Out on your own like this. People haven't completely forgotten, you know."
"That I was cast out? I'd like it if they never do. They'd question the agency's competency that way."
"Darling," the superhero said, "you think they don't?"
The villain blushed pink. "I think they don't question it enough."
The superhero chuckled. "They always have. No matter how hard we try, there's always going to be people who won't trust us completely." They bandaged the villain's arm and moved away. That was the last of the villain's wounds, and they turned to look at the superhero.
"That's it," they said once they realised the superhero was looking for any wound they might have missed. They picked up their shirt and moved to put it on, but it made their sutured wounds stretch and they halted to a stop and hissed. The superhero took it from their hands and helped them put it on instead, and as they helped, their knuckles brushed the villain's chest.
A blush spread through the villain's face, and they looked away and fixed their shirt. They mumbled a shy thanks.
The superhero put their arms steadily on their shoulders as they helped them up. They pressed a bottle into their palm. "Medicine," they said. "Apply it to the wounds on your back twice a day, all right?"
The villain nodded. The superhero brushed a finger delicately to their wrapped bicep. "If this gets too bloody, redress it."
"I can take care of myself," the villain said playfully.
The superhero smiled. "I worry."
The villain smiled back, getting a soft feeling in their chest. They didn't try to move back.
The superhero's thumbs rubbed circles into the chorded muscles of their shoulder.
"You should be careful," the superhero said eventually. Too good for this world. "That stunt you pulled at the mayor's conferance was too overboard."
The villain frowned. They stepped out of the superhero's grip, then. "Too overboard? You heard the proposals. Or do you favour cheaper water systems over the city's health like those greedy politicians?"
The superhero winced. "That's not what I meant."
"Then?"
The superhero closed their eyes and sighed a little pained sigh, and it made the villain regret the animosity. They hadn't always been like that, jumping to accusations. But ever since the agency had cast them out over what they'd found, well...a different environment warranted a different attitude.
"I'm sorry."
"I meant...what you said. I know you think there's only a conspiracy that one of the city's heroes has become a villain, but..."
"I know the rumours were high when I first showed up," the villain said. "I know what I said. I told you. I want them doubting the agency's competency."
The superhero sighed again. "I know, darling, I know. But...I don't want you getting hurt."
The villain began to form a reply, but the superhero gave them a look like whatever they were going to say, the superhero would know it was a lie. I can take a couple punches. I wasn't actually hurt so bad. This fight wasn't the worst fight till date.
They sighed. "I'll expect better retaliation next time."
"I won't always be there to look after you," the superhero said. They took the villain's chin in their thumb and index finger. "You're our brightest star. You know that, right?"
The villain flushed hard, then, heart fluttering. But their chest also lit up with confidence, with hope.
"I know," they said.
The superhero smiled. "Good," they said. Then, they did something unexpected: they pulled the villain in and kissed their brow.
It was more tender than what the villain had expected. Inwardly they feared the superhero liked them the wrong way, but then they pulled away and looked into the villain's eyes and the look felt a little too intense to keep up. They giggled and pulled away and shyly squeezed the superhero's hand.
"See you," they said.
"See you," the superhero said fondly.
The villain ran rooftop to rooftop, climbed down a couple balconies and pressed their forehead to the wall of a dark alleyway, glowing ball of light in their chest and all.
They'd take the agency down with any other bright stars they could gather one day.

Random prompt #59 TW: suggestive
Villain stirred awake, rubbing sleepily at their eyes with a hand. They nestled closer to the source of warmth in front of them, melting into the arms wrapped comfortably around them- Wait, arms? Their eyes snapped open and their gaze met the sight of a well-muscled chest. Swallowing nervously, they tilted their chin up and met gazes with owner of said chest, red immediately flushing up their neck and face. Oh, Supervillain was going to kill them when they found out. As soon as they stepped back into base, they'd be gone- "Good morning, my dear." Superhero's voice brought Villain back to the present and out of their thoughts, as well as the hand tracing over the various love-bites on their skin. Okay, maybe this wasn't too bad. Besides, Supervillain may not even find out! Villain relaxed once more, murmuring a 'good morning' as they rested their forehead on the hero's shoulder. They basically started purring as they felt Superhero hold them closer, pressing a kiss to their mussed hair. The villain made a mental reminder to themself to rile up Superhero during late-night fights, especially if it meant they got to spend more of their mornings pressed close to them in the hero's bed.

Until Death Do Us Part: Part 2
@writing-on-the-wahl I have finally completed my bribe! I hope you enjoy!
Part One
Villain considered running. One more last-ditch, blind dash for the exit. Who cared who tried to stop her? However, no sooner did Superhero drop her hand, than he scooped her into a bridal carry.
Her breath hitched as she bumped against his chest, her entire body freezing within his heroic--dangerous--grip. Those circling arms would crush her if she wasn't careful. She'd experienced that strength before, only not with her own body. Over a dozen robotic shells had fallen victim to Superhero's hands, now little more than ripped and flattened scrap, she didn't want to imagine what he could do to a human body.
Superhero strode with a pace untethered from the laws of gravity, quickly bursting through the blur of brown and gold that was the exit and floating the wide staircase to the sidewalk. She barely sucked in one last breath of cool spring air, before the hero bustled her skirts around her and tucked her into the leathered backseat of a waiting car.
She immediately felt around for the door handle but found it locked. A moment later the opposite door slammed shut as Superhero slid in beside her.
"Here." Cool plastic slid over her ears and the bridge of her nose and suddenly she could see again.
Superhero's face grinned wickedly into her own, appearing even more devilish with a sharp red-haired, long-canined, high-cheekboned combo.
"I made sure one of my people got them back for you."
How magnanimous, Villain wanted to spit, but instead only managed a quivering glare.
Superhero grinned wider. “So cute.”
Villain bristled. Did he take her seriously at all? Maybe not since it had been so easy to haul and bind her here. She had never wished more for one of her suits.
“Sorry, I shouldn’t say that, hm? So…intimidating?”
That was enough.Villain's entire face flushed with fury. “Don’t make fun of me!”
Superhero cackled. “I’m not! I’m not! I just didn’t expect you to be so expressive; your reactions are so fun. If it helps, you really do intimidate me, even all itty bitty.”
Villain folded her arms across her chest and stared firmly out the window. She refused to give Superhero what he wanted. What that was…she didn’t exactly know, but as long as she didn’t speak or look at him at all, she should squash it out soundly.
Superhero chuckled, leaning toward the driver out of Villain's peripheral. "Let's go home, Hero."
Villain jolted, whipping toward the front seat where the usually bedheaded and raggedy vigilante really was seated in a only slightly crumpled suit and tie.
"You got it!" Hero chirped, and the car lurched into motion.
Villain couldn't believe this. How much reach did Superhero have over the heroing community? She expected this sort of behavior from him; he'd never made a secret of his willingness to misuse power or compromise morals for results. But Hero always gave her stray kitten vibes, always mewing at people's heels or spitting at the big dogs but not an ounce of real guile in his body.
Maybe she was bad at reading people. She hadn't thought Superhero was serious about flirting with her either.
Superhero leaned back, settling one long arm across the back of Villain's seat. "Don't grimace so hard, dear, you'll get wrinkles."
Villain fought the urge to scoff. Or bite. Right, of course, he didn't want any damage to his little prize.
"Glaring is no better."
"Shut up!" she snapped but still didn't dare wrench forward in case it encouraged him to place his hands on more than her seat.
Her breath caught in her lungs as the full extent of her situation settled on her, weighing like heavy stones she couldn't seem to lift, aching and suffocating on her chest. This wasn't happening. This couldn't be happening.
She pressed her forehead to the cool window, glasses digging into the bridge of her nose. It took several seconds for her to exhale any air to cloud it.
"Come now, Villain," Superhero said. "Being married to me isn't so bad. I'm cute aren't I?"
Villain clenched her fists tighter in her lap.
"What?" Hero piped from the front seat. "No, you're not; you're ugly."
"Whaaat?"
Hero grinned in the rearview mirror. "Just being truthful."
"You just don't appreciate my softer beautiful because you're used to Sidekick's raw edges," Superhero said matter-of-factly.
Hero's expression turned melty as warm ice cream, like his grin might slide right off his face. "She's scary and beautiful, and that's why I love her."
Sidekick. The ex-assassin. Was she in on this too? Villain's chances of escape really were getting slimmer and slimmer.
She focused on breathing, in and out, in and out. Her heart rate slowed a fraction, but the nervous racing seemed impossible to quell entirely. Not with whatever horrors awaited her. She barely noticed the turns they took or the streets they traveled., so she was surprised and filled with dread when Hero finally announced, "Here we are!" and pulled into a wide driveway.
Villain wiped the wide circle of fog off her window. She had expected a mansion, or a 100-story skyscraper with a penthouse, or even a tunnel to a secret underground base. She did not expect the perfect model of domestic suburbia.
Two squat, square stories with a wrap-around porch, peeling blue shutters with pink and lavenders flowers painted up the sides, and a little herb garden growing beside the steps
"You live here?" she said before she could catch herself.
"We live here," Superhero corrected. "Mind if I carry you across the threshold?"
Villain cringed away from his outstretched hands, causing Superhero to frown and Hero to bark a laugh.
"Well...I'll hold your hand then."
Superhero's fingers suddenly twined in hers, tugging her across the seat and out of Superhero's side of the car.
"Let go!" She sank her nails as hard as she could into his knuckles, but he merely grinned through a wince.
"I can't really do that, can I? You'll run right off, and no doubt you'll be brilliant at it, and I'll have to spend all night tracking you down. So unless you'd prefer ropes and manacles--"
"I would!"
Superhero blinked. "Well. Unfortunately, I don't have anything like that, so you'll have to make do with this--" He lifted their twined hands. "--for a few more steps."
Villain dug her heels into the pavement, but Superhero easily managed to drag her up the steps and across the threshold, locking the door behind them before finally letting her free.
Villain, pulling back with all her strength against his grip, toppled at the sudden release, landing hard on her tailbone. Superhero extended a hand to help her, but ignored it, scrambling up quickly and sinking into the corner behind the coat hanger .
"Living room is through here." Superhero gestured to an arched opening beside the entryway, not even addressing her avoidance. "Kitchen aka meeting room is down the hall. The bathroom is that door to the left, and there's another upstairs next to Hero's room. Sidekick is down in the basement which is also a sort of armory thing." He waved his hand flippantly at that description. "I'm the room at the far back, it's a little bigger but don't be jealous, it's seniority and the fact the house is in my name. Hero can show you to your room: it's the one at the top of the stairs.
"What?" Villain gripped hard to coatrack but peeked out from behind a burgundy sleeve.
"You know, that place where you'll be sleeping and keeping your things?"
Villain blinked. “My room?”
"Of course, what sort of devil do you take me for?”
She narrowed her eyes. "The type that forces people to marry him against their will."
Superhero draped himself over the stair railing. "Well, obviously you're not staying in my room, you'll clutter it up with your robot junk, and besides the bed's not big enough."
"Superhero," Hero said from where he hung back against one of the passage walls, "maybe now is the time to tell her?"
"Tell me what?"
"Oh, alright," Superhero said, "but show her her room first, I'm sure she'd kill to get out of that dress. And I don't mean that as hyperbole."
Villain refused to move until Superhero had removed himself from the stairwell and into the kitchen, as far away from her as she supposed she was going to get.
Hero trotted up the stairs like a young colt, gangly and ungrateful. He nearly tripped over the top step, but quickly balanced himself with outstretched arms. Villain followed slower, needing to grab her ridiculous train skirt in a bundle in her arms to even see her feet in front of her. Hero waited in the doorway as picked her way to the top. First one by the stairs, just as Superhero said.
Except for a twin bed under the window, a bedstand, and a dresser against the back wall, the room was unfurnished. As far as decorations went, a lamp with a pink ruffled shade sat on the bedstand beside a metal pencil cup all made up of screws and bolts to look like a squat robot. Instead of pencils, a variety of colored lollipops stuck out the top of his head.
"I told Superhero you'd hate that," Hero said, motioning to the cup. "But he saw it at a thrift store last week and insisted."
"How long has he been planning this?" Villain asked, eyeing the lollipops uncomfortably. Was it a coincidence or had another villain informed Superhero that she tended to keep one in her mouth while she worked? No doubt Supervillain had shared all sorts so intimate information with the heroes already. He'd never liked her, and she'd been too unbothered to worry about what he noticed.
"About a month?" Hero said. "Give or take a week?"
Villain insides dropped. Had Supervillain been in agreement that long too? Were the two of them just watching her? Biding their time until she was vulnerable enough to strike? She was an idiot, she never should have drawn Superhero's attention in the first place. But then...what had she done exactly? She'd fought Superhero like she would anyone else. Yes, there'd been a little more flirtation than with the others, but any sane person would have realized that wasn't an invitation.
"He's really not as bad as he seems," Hero said, reading the furrows in her expression.
"Then you marry him," Villain spat.
Hero winced. "No, I didn't mean...I mean the situation he's put you in isn't as bad-- No, that sounds pretty bad too... You're really just going to have to hear him out to understand. Though I can tell you this isn't exactly what it looks like. I'll um...be waiting outside until you're ready. There are some clothes in the dresser."
Hero ducked out of the room, shutting the door behind him. Villain was glad to find a lock on the inside, twisting and testing it before immediately yanking at the ties and zipper on her back. She got it about halfway undone before losing patience and struggling the rest over her head. Her hair staticked around her face, but it felt nice to have all that weight off, and she took great satisfaction in throwing the balled wad of lace and frills into the corner.
She half expected the drawers to be full of pretty clothing just as uncomfortable and twice as revealing, but the first drawer contained several pairs of sweats and jeans, the second a few tolerable blouses. The third was empty, but Villain was thankful for the absence of underclothes. She didn't even want to imagine Superhero shopping for such things with her in mind.
She chose a pair of thick black sweat and an oversized t-shirt was a soda logo on the front, a little surprised at the nice texture of the fabric. As she opened the door, she didn't wait for Hero to guide her back downstairs, instead marching straight past him, down the stairs, and into the kitchen. Superhero sat at the table with shoes kicked off and tie undone, annoyingly unconcerned as he ate a bowl of yogurt. In a moment of boldness, Villain plopped into the seat straight across from him, glaring murderously over her glasses.
"Sorry," Superhero said, mouth full. "I skipped breakfast. Wedding nerves."
"What's going on?" Villain said.
"Did you eat breakfast? We've got oranges, yogurt, cereal, this gross breakfast smoothie mix Sidekick keeps buying. Once we know what you like we can start--"
Villain pounded both fists against the table. The frustration exploded and simmered down in an instant. She shouldn't have done that. Not in the middle of a hero base without any resources to defend herself. She sank back against her chair, arms wrapped around her knees. With the right tools, she could be big, deadly, threatening. As herself...well she'd learned early on that if she was in trouble it was better to be small. People skimmed over you. They didn't take you seriously, but they also didn't worry.
"Sorry," Superhero said.
Villain's gaze shot up from her toes to Superhero's tired hand over his face.
"You need an explanation. Everything just...gets more complicated after this."
Villain rested her chin on her kneecaps and waited for the hero to continue.
"To start, this," he waved between Villain and himself, "is a front. I needed an inside ally, but I also needed them close and out of Supervillain's range of power."
A hot and cold mixture rushed Villain's intestines, relief and anger and confusion and resistance. She wet her lips. "And I had the luck of the draw?"
Superhero tipped their hand back and forth in the air. "Sort of. I probably could have picked someone else just as well, but you checked quite a few boxes: you're a villain who has met Supervillain, you commit crime for a purpose and avoid hurting people, you're not psychotic, and you are one of the only villains that I can see being really formidable. Oh and of course there was palpable tension between us."
Villain made of show of gagging.
Superhero pouted, "No need to be so rude. The people--and Supervillain--really ate it up."
"So..."Villain said slowly, slowly uncurling her legs and lifting her fingernails out her palms. "You married me so that I would help you take down Supervillain?"
"Yes, like I said, it won't be strange if we're seen together now. And I think I made a big enough show for people to believe you're just a trophy. And as far as Supervillain knows, we have a deal. You for a blind eye to them. I'll let them think that's true for a while but--"
"Why would I even help you after all this?" Villain clenched her jaw, forcing herself calm. "This was quite possibly the worst day of my life, and you want me to forget and work with you?"
"I'm pretty sure after what they did to you, you want to destroy Supervillain as much as I do."
"I also want to destroy you."
"You can try."
Superhero and Villain both swiveled their heads toward Hero as he slid in on the other end of the table. He shrugged at their furrowed faces. "Once Supervillain is taken care of, you'll have plenty of opportunities to fight Superhero. You might even know a little more about him."
Superhero looked about ready to complain but then stopped. "He's right. Wouldn't you rather destroy me after learning all my weaknesses?"
Villain sank against the table, rubbing her temples with her index and middle fingers. She wasn't sure what to do. She did want Supervillain gone, and not only because she wanted vengeance. He was a plague on this city, even from a criminal standpoint. And he would only get more power. But she hated the idea of being on Superhero's side almost as much.
"If I was to decline...would you let me go?"
"Afraid not," Superhero said. "Things have already been set in motion. I can't make a deal to marry you and then pretend it never happened."
"You could've asked me before having me kidnapped."
"You would have said no."
Probably. But Superhero didn't know that for sure. How dare he assume he knew her. How dare he force her to... Another thought suddenly crossed her mind.
"Are we really married?" she asked.
Superhero grinned that signature devilish grin. "Legally, yes. I didn't want Supervillain to become suspicious if he went digging. But it can easily be annulled later, after all, you hardly consented."
"Don't you care about your reputation? A superhero marrying a villain, let alone forcing it against her will is hardly a good look for your precious citizens."
Superhero shrugged. "Once it's all over I'll give a statement explaining everything, but honestly, my reputation is already bad, so it hardly matters if it gets worse."
Right. Superhero was the questionable hero. The one who valued results over ethicality. Did he really not care what people thought of him? It seemed unlikely in an organization that depended on civilian cooperation and sponsors, but Villain was one to talk. She didn't make nice with the criminal underbelly either.
"Well," Villain said, "you've made it abundantly clear I have no other choice. Let's get this over with. You mentioned something about robot junk?"

Where the hero and villain bicker like children constantly...
Hero: "Hey, stop that."
Villain, fiddling with their cuffs: "Why? Is being uncomfortable in handcuffs a crime?"
Hero: "You're not getting out of them."
Villain: "They're fucking handcuffs. A twelve year old could get out of them. Come on, they hurt. Could you at least loosen them?"
Hero: "Yeah no, I'm not falling for that."
Villain: "It's not a trick, you fucking nimrod."
Hero: "Nimrod? Is that really the best insult you could come up with?"
