Detention (1/1) (jegulus)
“I’m sorry professor you are going to have say all that again and slowly, because I do not understand how my son is the one in trouble right now,” Regulus scowled into the fire. Professor McGonagall’s face was just as stern as always, even through the flames. James walked into the room as he heard his husband’s unimpressed tone from the kitchen.
“What’s wrong love?” James asked, as he peered around the door. Regulus turned in a huff, “apparently our son has detention for the third time this term for standing up to a bully who was picking on Harry’s friend Neville.”
“Mr. Black, your son transfigured Mr. Malfoy into a cauldron.” McGonagall called from the fireplace.
“Did he really?” James said, sounding too impressed. “Hi Professor, you must be a very good teacher then because you know I was shit at transfiguration,” James laughed as he came in and stood behind Regulus. “Good evening Mr. Potter, and yes while your talents were never quite that strong I’m sure Harry has learned a thing or too from his other father,” and even through the flame they could see the side eye McGonagall was giving to Regulus. “I still do not understand why he has detention?” Regulus said, shaking his head. “The Malfoy boy is ruthless and I have heard what he has been doing to Neville,” Regulus stated flatly.
“I won’t be discussing the punishments of other students with you Mr. Black,” McGonagall said dismissively.
“Oh so that snotty nosed kid is getting punished too. Well Harry did turn the boy into a cauldron, though he should be getting top grades this year professor,” James said. Both Regulus and McGonagall stared at him annoyance clear but for different reasons. James raised his hands in the air in surrender, and spoke quickly to save himself: “Professor is Harry there?”
“Yes,” McGonagall said, and she swiftly moved out of the way. After a moment Harry’s face came in through the flames. His head hung and his eyes low.
“Haz,” James said, dragging out the nickname with a sigh.
“I’m sorry dad, but Neville was nearly crying!” Harry said now looking at them with big eyes.
“I know, and honestly I’m proud of you for sticking up for your friend but you can’t be hurting other people like that Harry.” James said.
“I know.” Harry said, hanging his head again.
“Harry,” Regulus said his voice steady. Others would think it firm, but Harry and James knew that tone. That keep your expression blank while I speak secrets to you in public tone. “Je suit fiere de toi. Un chaudron? Mon beau, ca c'est incroyable. Comment est-ce que tu as fais ca?”
Harry, who was still a new 12, couldn’t help but get excited. Regulus saw his eyes glimmer but his face stayed flat. “C’était tout nos pratique Papa! Je peux aussi fair voler mes livres jusqu’au bibliothèque, et j’ai faite la meilleure potion aujourd’hui que meme Snape était impressionné!
“Ca c'est mon beau!” Regulus clapped his hands together. Remembering he was supposed to telling off his son he said, “Okay well Dad and I need you to be mindful that you aren’t causing more harm okay,” Regulus winked.
“Okay Papa. I’m sorry.” Harry said, but his smile betrayed him.
“Alright, stay out of trouble. Je t’aime mon fils,” Regulus replied with a warm smile.
“Love you Haz!” James called from behind Regulus, who was just as lost as McGonagall neither of them knowing at all what was just said between Harry and Regulus. “Love you too, Dad!” Harry called back.
“You’re both coming to the match next weekend, yeah?”
“Gryffindor vs Slytherin? We wouldn’t miss it!” James and Regulus said in unison.
“Awesome! Okay I gotta go! Say hi to pads for me! Moony says hi!” Harry called as he walked away.
“He looks too happy to have had a talking too,” McGonagall said as he came back into view. “Alas, I’ll see you both next week,” and a small smile crept up the side of her lips as the fire went out.

Unexpected Cohabitation a JonDami fic
So....my chapters seem to be getting longer. I apologize, but I can't stop myself. Here's chapter 3!
Title: Unexpected Cohabitation
Main Characters: Jonathan Kent and Damian Wayne (some of the others show up too, the list is too long)
Eventual relationship: Jonathan Kent/Damian Wayne (my fave)
Stuff to know: No capes, reverse robins, high school AU, no smut, no Brucie Wayne, I know nothing about sports but it will show up, (aaand I think that's it, will add more if it comes up)
[In case you missed it Chapter 1 , Chapter 2]
Part 1 - Chapter 3
Jon had been distracted. The morning had started out hectic. First, Conner had taken forever to get ready and they had to run to the subway in order to get to school on time. Then, it had turned out that he had been placed in the wrong math class so he had to go into the school office and have it changed to proper math class, lucky his schedule stayed the same. Even luckier he now got to see Jay twice everyday, not including club activities every Monday. What had really been the cherry on top was when Jay stopped him after class to give his phone number. Lunch had been full of memes and texts and exasperated glances from Kathy. So, Jon was distracted when he stumbled on what felt like a tree root, his phone flying into the air and him landing on his hands and knees on the dirt floor. Miraculously his glasses stayed on his face if not a bit askew.
“Ow.” Someone groaned behind him. “Sorry!” Jon scrambled up and turned around. His wide blue eyes met glaring green ones. “Tt.” Damian tsked removing Jon’s phone from atop his head. “Do you make it a habit to throw your things at others?” “What? No!” Jon reached out snatching his phone back. “It was an accident!” Damian stared at him unimpressed passing him by without further comment. Jon could feel the heat of embarrassment heating his neck and face. He gripped his phone and cursed his decision on taking the short cut to his art class. He took a deep breath and continued on his way, Damian Wayne was long gone.
Walking into his art class Jon sat across the table from Jay, who waved and smiled at Jon when he entered but was now talking to the girl sitting next him. Jon kept his hands busy by pulling out his art pencils and sketch book he had bought the day before on his way home from school. Jon took discreet glances towards Jay wore a light blue hoodie, it made his pink hair standout and it made him look warm and fluffy. Jon wanted to hug him. “Hello everyone!” Ms. Worle clapped her hands, getting the whole class’s attention. “I have great news today! After many attempts, I was finally able to convince my favorite prodigy to become my T.A.” She clapped her hands again, looking at the door, her white curly hair bouncing in excitement. A loud chatter filled the classroom when Damian Wayne stepped through the door. He glanced around the room, his green gaze locked onto Jon’s blue. The embarrassment from early crawled up Jon’s neck and he quickly looked away. Damian, clearly deciding to pay him no further attention looked back at Ms. Worle, his expression softening. “Ms. Worle, I wouldn’t call myself a prodigy.” Damian said. “Nonsense, please humor this old lady.” Ms. Worle waved away Damian’s words. “You are certainly not old.” Jon wanted to gag, all Damian had to do was kiss the back of the teacher’s hand and the whole charade would be complete. Jon noticed that Jay sat up in interest a small “No way,” escaping his mouth. Jon bit his lip not liking the attention Jay was giving the Wayne. Jay’s sparkling eyes locked unto Jon a wide excited smile graced his face. Jon could feel heat burning his ears, Jay had such a cute smile.
“Jon!” Jay whispered excitedly, leaning forward as far as he could and covering the side of his mouth in an attempt at secrecy. “This is huge! Damian is going to our T.A.!” “I don’t see the big deal…” Jon frowned. Jay looked at him in surprised, he opened his mouth to say something else but Ms. Worle cut him off. “Now, Now, let’s all settle.” Ms. Worle’s face was slightly flushed. “You will be sketching the person sitting across from you and Damian will be assisting all those who need help.” “Try not to make my forehead too big.” Jay teased. “Try not to make my ears too big and we have a deal.” Laughed Jon. It was hard drawing Jay. Every time he looked up at him his heart would race and sometimes their eyes would meet and the butterflies in Jon’s stomach would take flight. It was distracting and difficult to not let his day dreams wander. It didn’t help that Jon wasn’t a very good artist to begin with and kept erasing the same eye he had been trying to draw for the last eight minutes. “Tt.” Jon’s shoulders tensed. When he turned, his nose nearly collided with a brown jaw. He took in a breath of surprise and caught a whiff of something sweet and earthy. Damian’s eyes locked onto his and Jon pulled away slightly, heart pounding in his chest. “May I?” Damian glanced at Jon’s hand. Jon nodded stiffly and watched as Damian’s elegant fingers plucked the pencil out of Jon’s grip, his fingers lightly grazing his. “You need guide lines on the face if you want to make everything symmetrical.” Damian spoke lowly. Jon had to lean in a bit to hear him clearly due to his loud classmates. Jon watched as Damian lightly drew a couple of horizontal lines and a vertical line down the middle. He then started drawing the outline for the second eye. “Drawing is just a series of shapes. Look at Jay’s eyes,” Damian gestured towards Jay and Jon could see that Jay was keenly paying attention to the both of them, “draw a circle for the iris and then fill in the detail like the curve of his eyelid and notice the delicate sweep of his brow.” Damian’s eyes were intense as he pointed out aspects of Jay’s face. Jay fidgeted but did not look away a blush darkened his cheeks and his lips were parted in awe. Jon gripped the table trying not to show any jealousy. “Nothing is a straight line; his soft wavy hair, his lips and the curve of his chin.” Damian paused waiting for Jon’s understanding. “Thanks.” Jon said sulkily. Damian placed the pencil on the sketchbook and moved on. Jon’s back and side prickled uncomfortably in Damian’s absence. Damian helped a couple of girls, they turned red and chattered amongst themselves after he left them. But Jon was paying attention to them, he watched Jay stare after Damian his face slightly red and his gaze determined. Did Jay like that jerk? Was Jon going to lose Jay to Damian? Jon grimaced and looked down at his sketch. Damian’s pencil marks looked light and easily erased. The parts he had drawn as guides looked better than the dark lines Jon had drawn and markedly improved the sketch itself. He sighed and did his best to follow what he had been taught.
After class Jay sidled next to Jon looking behind them at Damian who was speaking with Ms. Worle. He nudged Jon’s shoulder with his own as they left the classroom and Jon got butterflies in his tummy from Jay’s proximity. “You are so lucky that Damian helped you!” Jay tried to whisper but failed. “Yeah, I guess.” Jon tried not to roll his eyes. “He must be pretty good at drawing.” “Pretty good at-“ Jay laughed. “Jon. Damian has won awards for his art.” “So, he’s like actually talented?” Jon asked. Jay stared at him and stopped to type something on his phone. Once he found what he was looking for he showed Jon an article from the Gotham Gazette complete with a picture of a painting. Jay clicked on the picture so that Jon could see it zoomed in. “He won this prestigious art award last year and donated the winnings to charity, since you know, he doesn’t need the money.” Jon took the phone and looked at the painting. It displayed a desert oasis, the palm trees swaying in the breeze seemed to come to life. The sand colored buildings contrasted beautifully with a bright blue sky and green vegetation. In the distance a storm brewed making the birds take flight. The ground closer to the buildings was slightly tinted in a rust colored red. It was beautiful but it somehow made Jon feel as if danger was just around the corner despite the tranquility of the scene. The plaque next to the painting said it was an oil on canvas, titled “Home.” “But, he’s the baseball captain.” Jon said dumfounded. “He’s also been winning art awards since he was a kid. He’s won so many he’s probably lost count.” “How can he be good at so many things? Isn’t he the top of his grade?” “It’s awful, isn’t it?” Jay said smirking. “I can’t wait to interview him!” Jon watched as Jay waved and left him behind. What if his fears were true? If Jay didn’t like Damian now he certainly would after he interviewed him. Kathy was right, Jon needed to confess, ASAP!
I hope you enjoyed! The next chapter is going to be my favorite so I hope you're as excited as I am. XD

The sun streamed through the classroom windows, casting a warm glow over Class 1A at U.A. High School. The students chatted animatedly, their energy palpable as they waited for their teacher to begin the day's lesson. The room buzzed with anticipation, and for good reason.
Aizawa, their ever-present yet perpetually exhausted teacher, cleared his throat, effectively silencing the excited chatter. He leaned against his desk, his usual disinterested expression giving way to something slightly more engaged. "Listen up, everyone," he began, his voice laced with a hint of intrigue that captured their attention. "U.A. is hosting a talent show, and yes, you're all participating."
A collective gasp and a burst of excited chatter filled the room. Mina Ashido, known for her exuberance, let out a high-pitched squeal before breaking into an impromptu breakdance routine, much to the amusement of her classmates.
Aizawa's eyes narrowed as he watched Mina's display, clearly unimpressed. "Ashido, save your energy for the actual show," he deadpanned. "And maybe find a way to channel your enthusiasm into something more productive."
Mina skidded to a halt, her cheeks flushed with excitement. "Oops, sorry, Sensei!"
Aizawa sighed and continued, "Now, before you all start planning your star-studded solo acts, let me make one thing clear. You will be paired up with other students from your class." The room fell silent, a mixture of curiosity and apprehension lingering in the air.
He raised an eyebrow, surveying the suddenly subdued class. "Yeah, that's right. Partners. Good luck or whatever," he muttered, his monotone voice lacking any semblance of enthusiasm. "And as for me, I'll be taking a nap. Don't disturb me."
With that, Aizawa sauntered off to his desk, collapsing into his sleeping bag as if the mere act of speaking had drained him of energy. The students exchanged glances, a mix of excitement and uncertainty written across their faces.
As conversations ignited once again, Midoriya turned to his best friend, Uraraka, a mixture of eagerness and trepidation in his voice. "Hey, Uraraka, any ideas for a talent we could do together?"
Uraraka's eyes twinkled with mischief as she thought for a moment. "Well, how about a gravity-defying dance routine? You know, using our quirks to create something unique."
Midoriya grinned, his enthusiasm reignited. "That sounds awesome! Let's do it!"
Throughout the classroom, pairs of students huddled together, brainstorming ideas for their talents. Some were excited, some nervous, but the overall buzz of energy was undeniable. As friendships deepened and ideas took shape, the realization set in: the U.A. talent show wasn't just about showcasing their abilities; it was about bonding, collaborating, and supporting each other.
And so, amidst the chatter and laughter, Class 1A prepared to unveil their hidden talents, ready to come together as a united front in the face of a new challenge. As the days unfolded, friendships formed and creative sparks ignited, the stage was set for a talent show that would not only showcase their quirks but also highlight the strength of their bonds.
The next day, the air in Class 1A was thick with curiosity and anticipation as they gathered, eager to discover their talent show partners. Aizawa entered the room with his usual nonchalant demeanor, seemingly impervious to the bubbling excitement around him.
"Quiet down," Aizawa muttered, a hint of amusement in his voice as he surveyed the room. The students settled into their seats, their gazes fixed on him.
"I'll get straight to the point," Aizawa began, his tone cutting through the chatter. "Your partners were picked for you yesterday in a raffle drawing."
A collective sigh of disappointment swept through the room, followed by a chorus of "awws" and groans. Aizawa's expression remained unchanged, and he muttered, "Shouldn't have gotten your hopes up."
Aizawa continued, "Your partners will meet you after school. You will have time to discuss your talent and plan your performance." With that, he turned towards the blackboard, signaling that the conversation was over.
As the students opened their envelopes, they exchanged curious glances and the occasional excited whisper. Midoriya's eyes widened in pleasant surprise as he read Uraraka's name on his paper, while Bakugo's scowl only deepened as he glanced at Kirishima's name.
Meanwhile, Mina Ashido unfolded her slip of paper, her eyes widening at the name she saw. "Huh?" she muttered to herself, a mix of confusion and curiosity on her face.
Bakugo raised an eyebrow at her reaction. "What's with you, Pinky?"
Mina turned towards Bakugo, her excitement not fully dampened. "I got a partner named (Y/N), but I've never heard of them before."
The class collectively exchanged puzzled glances, murmuring amongst themselves. Even Todoroki, known for his stoic demeanor, looked intrigued. "I don't recall anyone named (Y/N) being in our class," he mused.
Iida, the ever-organized class representative, cleared his throat and leaned forward. "Allow me to provide some clarity. (Y/N) is an upperclassman, a third-year student at U.A. High School. They might not be as well-known to first-year students, but their experience could be a valuable asset to the performance."
Mina's eyes lit up with understanding as the pieces fell into place. "Oh, got it! Thanks, Iida!"
As the discussions continued, excitement and curiosity filled the room once more. Partnerships that spanned across different class years brought an air of mystery and anticipation to the talent show preparations. With each passing moment, the students grew more eager to meet their assigned partners, ready to embark on this collaborative journey that would showcase their unique abilities and foster new connections.
After the final bell rang, Mina Ashido couldn't contain her excitement. She quickly gathered her belongings, her heart racing with anticipation. Today was the day she would meet her talent show partner, (Y/N). As she stepped out of the classroom, she glanced around, hoping to spot the unfamiliar face.
Just as she was about to give up, a soft voice spoke from behind her. "Excuse me, are you Mina?"
Mina turned around to find (Y/N) standing there. Her appearance took Mina by surprise. (Y/N) had long, dark hair that cascaded around her like a veil, obscuring most of her face. The hair was reminiscent of the eerie girl from horror movies, and Mina couldn't help but think of the character from "The Grudge."
"Uh, yeah, I'm Mina," she replied, trying to suppress the unease that was bubbling up inside her.
(Y/N)'s voice was soft, almost too quiet to hear clearly. "Nice to meet you. I'm (Y/N)."
Mina strained to catch her words, nodding with an enthusiastic smile. "Nice to meet you too!"
(Y/N) began to move, and Mina noticed something unusual about her walk. She seemed to slant downwards as she walked, her posture almost reminiscent of a slow descent. It was unsettling, yet Mina tried her best not to stare.
"So, (Y/N), what talents do you think we should showcase for the talent show?" Mina asked, her voice laced with her usual cheerfulness.
(Y/N)'s response was a low chuckle, her dry humor taking Mina by surprise. "I was thinking about a dramatic reading of the phone book. Riveting stuff."
Mina blinked, not sure if (Y/N) was serious or not. "Wait, really?"
(Y/N) finally looked up, her hair shifting slightly to reveal a portion of her face. Her lips curved into a small smile. "Nah, I'm kidding. I'm open to suggestions. Do you have any ideas?"
Mina's relief was evident as she laughed, realizing that (Y/N) was playing with her. "You had me there for a moment! How about a dance routine? I love breakdancing, and we could incorporate your... unique style into it!"
(Y/N)'s smile widened, the humor in her eyes shining through. "I'm down for that. Let's make it the most memorable breakdance routine ever."
As they discussed their ideas, Mina found herself growing more at ease with (Y/N). Despite her eerie appearance and unsettling walk, (Y/N) exuded a sense of friendliness and dry humor that Mina could appreciate. They brainstormed ideas, shared a few laughs, and by the time they parted ways, Mina had a feeling that this partnership would be an interesting and unforgettable experience.
The next day in class, Mina couldn't contain her enthusiasm. She leaned over her desk, a wide grin on her face, as she chatted with her classmates. "You guys won't believe my partner for the talent show. She's pretty unsettling with the whole long hair covering her face thing, but overall, she seems really cool!"
Katsuki Bakugo rolled his eyes and scoffed. "Unsettling, huh? Sounds like you're exaggerating."
Little did Bakugo know, (Y/N) had entered the room, their footsteps almost inaudible as they moved behind him. Mina's eyes widened as (Y/N)'s voice sounded, a low and soft tone that sent shivers down everyone's spine. "Me…unsettling?"
The entire classroom jumped at the unexpected voice, the eerie cadence sending a shiver through the air. Slowly, (Y/N) shifted their hair aside, revealing one of their eyes that stared blankly ahead, seemingly without any emotion.
A moment of awkward silence hung in the air before Mina's voice broke through. "Oh, hey (Y/N)."
(Y/N)'s gaze shifted towards Mina, their eye the only part of their face that moved. "Hey. Ready for practice?"
Mina grinned, undeterred by the unsettling appearance. "Hell yeah!"
As they walked away, Mina bounced with excitement, her energy in stark contrast to (Y/N)'s slow, slouching walk. The duo seemed like an odd pair, each with their unique quirks and styles, but as they left the classroom together, it was evident that their partnership held a certain fascination for everyone who witnessed it. And while (Y/N)'s appearance might be unsettling at first glance, their dry humor and quiet confidence began to slowly win over even the most skeptical classmates.
As the days went on, Mina and (Y/N) worked together to perfect their talent show performance, discovering that their contrasting personalities and appearances created a dynamic that was both intriguing and strangely captivating. And as the day of the talent show drew nearer, their partnership would come to showcase not only their abilities but also the bonds that formed within Class 1A, proving that even the most unexpected pairings could create something extraordinary.
The day of the U.A. talent show had finally arrived, and the atmosphere in the auditorium was electric with excitement. Class 1A had worked tirelessly to prepare their performances, and Mina Ashido and (Y/N) were no exception.
Mina, her signature pink hair styled into a high ponytail, bounced on her toes backstage, her excitement contagious as she whispered encouraging words to (Y/N). "We've got this, (Y/N)! Just remember to have fun and show off your unique style!"
(Y/N) stood beside her, their hair neatly pulled back to reveal their face, the single exposed eye that held a calm intensity. Their demeanor was composed, a stark contrast to Mina's boundless energy. "I'll do my best," they replied, their low voice carrying a quiet determination.
The lights dimmed, and the spotlight illuminated the center of the stage. Mina and (Y/N) stepped into the spotlight, their presence commanding attention from the audience. The stage was set with a mix of urban and mysterious elements, creating an atmosphere that perfectly complemented their performance.
As the music began, Mina took the lead, her breakdancing skills on full display. Her movements were fluid and dynamic, a burst of vibrant energy that captivated the audience. With each spin, flip, and twist, Mina showcased her mastery of the art form, leaving the crowd in awe.
(Y/N) moved in a deliberate and almost hypnotic manner, their body swaying with a haunting elegance. Their movements were graceful yet enigmatic, their long hair creating a mesmerizing visual effect as it followed the path of their motions. The one eye that stared out seemed to hold a hint of mystery, drawing the audience in.
As the performance progressed, Mina and (Y/N) seamlessly merged their styles, creating a fusion of high-energy breakdancing and intriguingly haunting movements. It was a performance that defied expectations, a celebration of their differences and a testament to their ability to work together as a team.
The music reached its climax, and Mina executed a breathtaking spin before leaping into the air. (Y/N) gracefully lowered themselves to the ground, their movements finally converging as they stood side by side. With a final, synchronized pose, they held the audience's attention for a brief moment before the music faded, leaving the stage in silence.
The auditorium erupted into applause, the cheers of their classmates and fellow students ringing in their ears. Mina's infectious smile lit up the stage as she waved to the audience, her exhilaration evident. Beside her, (Y/N) inclined their head, a subtle acknowledgment of the applause that echoed around them.
Backstage, as the lights dimmed and the applause continued, Mina turned to (Y/N) with a wide grin. "We did it, (Y/N)! We rocked that stage!"
(Y/N) returned the smile, their eye holding a touch of warmth. "Yes, we did."
Their performance had been a collaboration that transcended appearances, showcasing their unique talents while highlighting the strength of their partnership. As they basked in the afterglow of their act, Mina and (Y/N) knew that they had created something extraordinary together—a performance that would forever be etched in the memories of those who had witnessed it.

The Image Tags Masterpost
(As its own post thanks to a suggestion from @oregano-gremlin! gracias)
Every image is tagged with one of these tags, for organisation purposes! ^_^
(Also It’d be a HUGE pain to go back and re-organise them so, while suggestions for new categories/adjustments to existing ones are appreciated, I’m almost definitely not gonna follow through on any of them.)
(Also I am uh. Putting this under a read-more because it’s longer than I thought it was gonna be when it’s all laid out lmao)
#[undefinable] - for images that dont really fit into a single mood, or have a mood that isn’t accurately represented by one of the other tags
#;_; - for images that are the big sad
#Hell yah - for celebratory, “nice”-type images
#Hell nah - for images that simply embody the concept of “no”, “no thanks”, “not for me”, e.t.c.
#Frick the frack off - slightly violent images used to tell someone to begone or that they are unimpressive
#Y’all are heathens - images that demonstrate disdain, confusion, or general contempt for your group chat
#Ah shit - images that convey “oh fuck”, “oh no”, “oh heck”, “oh shit”, and so on
#Depression time - for images that can be used to either show genuine sadness, or a weary sort of “oh God” that is less emotive and more resigned than an #Ah shit image
#Huzzah - celebratory images
#w h a t - images which convey just. total incredulity and bafflement
#F - for images that pay respects
#ooh-de-lally - images to be used for things that are exciting, spicy, or generally just make your eyebrow quirk up a bit

#I LOVE YOU!!! - images you can use to show affection to any loved ones you are fortunate enough to have
#Welp - for images that aren’t very emotive or very specific, but rather channel that face you make when someone’s talking about something and you have no real idea how to react
#Genuine mirth - images that express, well, genuine mirth
#Contemplation time - I like to think this one is self-explanatory lmao
#Horny on main - not for NSFW stuff so much as stuff where it’s just a guy saying “hehe boobies” or whatever
#:) - happy pickturs

“I’m going to be alone forever!”
Nobody even turns to look when Will throws himself in the booth. At one end, Auston and Morgan are talking about their plans for the Raptors game this weekend while Tessa tries to shove her way to Morgan’s other side to join a more interesting conversation.
Jordan and Mikey and Marissa and Alex are next to them, comparing cute stories about their dogs. Occasionally, they’ll catch Mitch’s attention and he’ll sneak a peek at whatever picture or video has been pulled up and then throw a comment in about how Zeus is the best dog ever, before jumping right back into the debate that he’s having with you, Steph, Justin, and Audrey about which would win in a fight, a gorilla or a grizzly bear.
“I don’t know how you don’t choose bear!” Justin repeats, even as Audrey is shaking her head at him.
“Hello?” Will whines, leaning against you. “ Did anyone hear me?”
“Being overdramatic?” You pat your hand against his, kind of patronizingly, but this type of behavior from Will isn’t really anything new. “We heard. We just don’t believe it.” You pivot right back into the debate. “Let that gorilla take a swing at ya, buddy. That’s how you don’t choose bear.”
“Thank you!” Audrey cries.
“I got people 6ft tall coming at me everyday! Bring it!” Justin throws his hands up in a challenge.
“You’re both crazy!” Steph looks at you and Audrey and shakes her head.
“People survive bear attacks!” You argue.
Mitch nods. “Gorillas are fucking savage!”
“Oh you know this from all your personal experience hanging out with gorillas?” Steph asks.
“How-how did we get here?” Will frowns, still draped over you and begging for attention.
“Well we somehow started with whether you’d rather fight the one horse sized duck or one hundred duck sized horses.” Justin explains. “But obviously, that’s-”
“-the horse sized duck.” You all chime in together.
“Oh, of course.” Will says, like your obvious conclusion was the one everyone would have reached (it should be).
“And it spiraled from there.” Audrey says.
“I, too, am spiraling.” Will tells her and she immediately fights back a laugh. “Because I’m going to die alone.”
“I guess we have to do this, then?” Justin sighs.
“You are the married couple who’s supposed to like, have your shit together and offer good advice.” Mitch says.
“Hold up, we did not sign up for that!” Audrey says, as you and Steph laugh. “We’re like, the fun older siblings that you still get in trouble with. John and Aryne are your stable adults.”
“Can we get back to me?” Will jumps in quickly, probably worried that’s about to start another tangent.
“What’s to get back to?” You ask him. “Break ups suck. Get yourself a drink, and then a lot more, and you’ll feel worse in the morning at first, but then a little better.”
Audrey laughs at what’s become your time honored method for getting over breakups. “It just takes time, babe.” She tells him, which just makes Will look murderous. “You’ll find the right girl eventually.”
“I saw a meme the other day that everyone meets their soulmate by the time they’re like 22.” Alex turns and adds in. “So maybe you already have.”
“That was a meme?” Marissa frowns at him.
“Well nah, the meme was about like, not wanting to dive down that hole again or something.” Marissa gives Alex another look that has you all laughing. “It was funnier when you saw it, okay!” Alex protests.
“Mhmm.” She says, entirely unimpressed and Alex pulls his phone back from Mikey to start scrolling through instagram for it.
“Finally, something helpful.” Will says, finally pulling back from you.
“What?” You ask, looking over to him, sure you heard him wrong. “What’d you just say?”
“That’s it. I’m going to go back and date all the girls I’ve already dated.”
“What?” You repeat, sure that your face is doing...something.
“That’s what Kerf just said!”
“I don’t-I don’t think that’s what he said at all.” Steph says, looking around her, like she’s waiting for confirmation from the rest of you.
“How did you get that from what he just said?” Justin asks.
Will doesn’t even look phased at either of those comments, barreling on. “It’s genius. I’ve already found the right girl. I just have to figure out which girl I’ve dated is the right girl.”
Audrey bites her lip to fight back a laugh, but when she speaks, she’s looking directly at you. “Maybe the right girl is closer than you think.”
You send a glare at her across the table, but thankfully, Will seems too focused on figuring out what he wants to drink to try and figure out any cryptic clues she might have been trying to drop to him.
-----
“Audrey was right!” He announces to you the next afternoon, when he lets himself in your apartment after practice.
“About what?” You frown, barely looking up from your laptop and the spreadsheet you’re trying to fix.
“The right girl being closer than I think!”
Your heart stops and your head flies up. Will’s grinning back at you. He looks soft and rumpled after practice, arriving to your place in sweats and a hat, wearing his glasses, and looking like he’s ready to crash on your couch and stay there (you’d let him- you’d let him do that and more, ugh these feelings were the worst), but this? Him coming here and saying this so suddenly? It’s-
“I just ran into Jess at Starbucks!”
You close your mouth. Of course, it wasn’t you. Of course Jess was the first of the girls to re-return, and that he managed to casually run into her no less.
“That’s awesome!” You manage. “Did you-did you grab coffee with her?”
He nods, then moves his hand back and forth. “Well, kinda. For a few minutes. She had to run to a meeting. But we’re going out later this week for real.”
It’s kind of nice to still be able to duck into your laptop and pretend the reason for the lack of smile on your face is because of work, not Will’s tall, beautiful, smart, could-be-a-supermodel ex-girlfriend. “That’s great.” You tell him and he smiles back at you, before going to make himself comfy on your couch until you’re ready to do something for dinner-a routine that’s as old as your friendship since he came to Toronto.
It’s begun. You text Steph and Audrey.
Please live text us this disaster. Steph texts back and Audrey immediately follows it with a flaming dumpster gif.
Jess. Is all you send back and they simultaneously text back a string of gasping emojis, which is pretty much on par for how you think this is going to go.
-----
Will throws himself on your couch dramatically hours after his date with Jess, which would be funny if you couldn’t tell he was upset.
“What happened?” You ask, fighting back a smile. It’s not that you wanted him to have a bad time. It’s just… you’ve seen this film before. You can guess the ending.
“I don’t know.” He sighs. “It started off fine, I thought, and then she started saying how happy she was that I finally realized I was better than the rest of my friends, and that we could make this work now because of that.”
“Hm.” You say noncommittally, because none of what’s coming out of his mouth from Jess is a surprise.
He sits up at that, looking at you, kind of shocked and kind of mad, and that does surprise you. “You knew?”
“Will!” You shake your head. “Everyone knew. She didn’t make it much of a secret how much she disliked us.”
His jaw drops. “Was I the only one who didn’t know?” You nod. “And you all didn’t tell me?”
You shrug. “Well. We really didn’t think she’d last as long as she did.”
“That’s not really an excuse.” He frowns.
“You’re right,” You acknowledge, because it’s true and you and Steph and Mitch and Auston had all talked about it since. “But it took us a while to realize how different she was around you and us and by the time we did…” You trail off. “You guys had broken up. We didn’t think it’d be an issue again. We never held back after that.”
“Oh you certainly didn’t.” Will mutters, and you know he’s thinking about Abigail and everything that had been said when he’d brought her to meet you all for the first time.
“We’ve found our center!” You cry. “We’re better now!”
Will lies back down, resting his head against your leg and your hand goes to rest in his hair. Will loves having his hair played with and this is the least you can do for him. “You tell yourselves that.”
You brush some hair back from his face, smiling at how content he looks with his eyes closed and the small smile on his face. “I don’t have to, the group chat will do it for me.”
One of his eyes pops open. “There’s a group chat?”
You scratch your nails through his hair, which is probably dirty pool, because he loves that. “Shh, don’t worry about it.”
-----
Steph invites you and Audrey over for a bridal party planning session one evening and Mitch is absolutely gleeful when you walk in the door.
“Do you know, did you hear?”
“Ugh.” Is all you have to say, reaching for the wine Steph’s already pouring you.
“Come on, man, read the room.” Audrey lectures.
“You do!” He cries, ignoring her completely. “Come on, tell me.”
“I’ve been sworn to secrecy.” You tell him, enjoying the look on his face at that.
He scowls. “We’ve been trying to get it out of him all week. He won’t say shit.” You cackle and he flips you off, grinning as he makes his goodbyes, off to Auston’s with Zeus for the dogs to have a “brodate.”
“Can you really not say?” Audrey whispers, once he’s left, as if that’s not just something you’d said to fuck with Mitch.
You nod. “It’s Alex.”
“Shut up!” Steph cries immediately.
You raise your eyebrows as you take a sip of wine.
“Is he there now?” Audrey asks. “Like with her? Or at hers?”
You nod.
“Why didn’t we turn this into a reality show?” Audrey wonders aloud. “Forget Leaf to Leaf, the production team has a better purpose this year.”
You crack up, promising to keep them posted when you hear from Will, and with that Steph pulls a book of color samples out.
-----
“Is it me?” Will stares at you expectantly, watching you make yourself coffee the next morning, so you pour a second mug and pass it over to him.
“No.” You assure him. “Well, maybe.” He glares at you. “But really only in this case.”
He huffs. “Why didn’t this one work then?”
You burst into laughter. “Because she’s basically your brother!”
The sight he makes at that- frozen, with his mug halfway to his mouth, jaw dropped just a little- is incredible. It’s so rare that moments like that happen and you have a camera ready to capture them.
Luckily for you, you’ve got your phone in hand already and somehow, have the wherewithal to drop into the camera app and snap a picture.
“Delete that!” He says immediately.
“Never.” You stick your tongue out at him, already texting it to your group with Steph and Audrey. Caption this.
No thoughts head empty. Steph comes back immediately.
Audrey’s just as quick. When you can’t remember if you turned the straightener off before you left home.
SO close. You send back, even as Will tries to steal the phone from you. But it’s actually “when your best friend had to be the one to tell you that your ex and your brother are the same person down to their NAME”
Will’s stopped trying to make a play for your phone by the time you get a response back (Steph’s laugh and Audrey, queen of the gif as usual) but he’s looking at you like he’s thinking. “You-you-”
“Yes?” You ask patiently, sipping your coffee.
But there’s not a lot to say on that, you think. Even when Will and Alex had first broken up, he hadn’t been able to give you all much of a reason why at the time, just that for all they had really gotten along in so many ways, something had just seemed off about it-and she had agreed, he’d said- so they’d mutually parted ways. The parallels between her and his brother had been obvious, you thought, and you know it wasn’t just you who saw them.
“You just ruined that whole relationship.” Will says.
Apparently not obvious to Will, though.
“You were already broken up!” You protest.
“No, you ruined my memory of it.” He says with a completely straight face, which he somehow manages to keep for another minute before you realize that he’s fucking with you entirely.
-----
Brooke arrives back into Will’s life the same way she left it last time- in a whirlwind of drama.
“She did what!” Audrey gasps and you turn the volume down quickly, eyes scanning over the waiting room around you.
“She hit him with her car!” You repeat, looking down at the FaceTime call. “I’m literally at the hospital now, waiting to hear from the doctor.”
“Jesus Christ.” Audrey’s shaking her head in disbelief. “That boy.”
“I mean,” You defend, the need to stick up for Will bubbling up inside you. “It’s not, like, his fault.”
“Not at all, but you’ve got to admit, he does get himself into some wild situations.” She hums. “Auston’s dated some real winners but even he’s never been hit by a car.”
“I-“ You don’t have much of a response to that. “He didn’t get like hit by her car; she just clipped him.”
She gives you a flat look. “That’s what you’re going with?”
“There’s the doctor.” You say lamely, and even though it’s not a lie, you can tell she can see right through you and that you’re thankful for the excuse by the knowing look on her face. “Gotta go.”
“Mmm.” She gives you another look. “Alright babe, you go make sure Will’s okay. I’ll be ready for you with the wine later.”
A nurse brings you back, smiling and chatting politely with you until you reach the area that Will’s been waiting in for a few more tests. At first, you think the bay is empty, but then you realize there are actually two people in the room.
That they’re just sitting that close.
Brooke’s hands are laced with Will’s and there are tracks of mascara running down her face. She doesn’t acknowledge you at all, even as you check in with Will and how he’s feeling, as the doctor gives him a clean bill of health and tells him to follow up with the team doctors tomorrow.
“You ready to go?” You ask Will, and somehow, someway, you already know what’s going to happen next, before Brooke even speaks.
“Actually, Will and I are going to go grab lunch.” She says smoothly.
Your face freezes, hopefully in somewhat of a smile, but you couldn’t say at all what it was actually doing. Will untangles one hand from Brooke’s to squeeze your shoulder gently, reassuringly, as he passes, and he gives you a smile. “I’ll come see you tomorrow.” He promises, as she pulls him out of the room before you’ve even realized what’s happened.
Definitely going to need that wine. You send Audrey once you manage to collect some thoughts and realize that you’re left alone in an emergency room that wasn’t even for you.
That bad?? You can practically hear the shock in her voice.
Arguably worse. You send back.
Man. She sends. There is something about Brooke.
You don’t respond to that. There’s just something about Brooke, is right
-----
When it’s been about a week since you’ve seen Will in person, you text him.
Everything okay?
Everything is great! Why? Wait are you okay? He sends back right away.
Just haven’t seen you in a while! I’m good!
He likes that message and even though he’s sure to text you more frequently after that, you still don’t actually get to see him.
You end up on Audrey Holl’s couch one day when the boys are away, head in Steph’s lap as she openly laughs at you.
“You’re a mess.” Audrey says.
“That’s not news!” You pout at her. “Can you tell me how to get my best friend back, please?”
“Have you just...asked him?” Steph asks. “You sound a lot like Will right now.”
“You take that back!” You poke her leg. She’s sitting far too close to you to be saying things like that.
Steph and Audrey both laugh at that though, but it’s Steph that replies. “Again. Have you asked him to hang out with you recently?”
Your silence answers that.
“Maybe,” Audrey pours another serving of wine in your glass. “You start there.”
They only laugh at you for another few minutes before helping you draft a text to Will, asking if he’s free to hang out when he gets back from his road trip.
It doesn’t take Will long to respond at all, confirming plans with you the day after they get back, and you settle into girls’ day feeling better than you have since Brooke came back into your lives.
-----
“I’m sorry!” Will hastens to say, but he’s balancing two coffees in hand as he kicks your door shut behind him, so you’re inclined to forgive his lateness. “My-well, it was a whole thing.”
“I was going to give you five more minutes before I sent out a search party.” You laugh, accepting the cup he offers. “Is everything okay?”
He nods. “Yeah.” Then he sighs. “I’m just happy to be here, I’ll say that.”
“Me too.” You blurt out, before you can stop yourself. “I’ve missed you!”
Will just grins. “Me too.” He says, as his phone buzzes. He looks at it, makes a face, and slides it back into his pocket. “Ready to go?”
“For breakfast still?” You throw your hand over your heart dramatically, smiling wider when he grins. “A man after my heart.”
“I know better than to let you go hungry.” Will teases. “This is really for my safety, you see.”
“Mmm.” You nod. “Yeah, uh huh. Nothing to do at all with the pancakes voted best in Toronto only last month.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Will feigns innocence and opens the door to your Uber, ignoring his phone buzzing again. “I would never make a list ranking all those places in order of menu and aesthetic to try them all and see if they’re appropriately rated.”
You’re still cackling as he climbs in beside you, confirming the restaurant for the driver. “You are absurd.”
He shrugs. “You love me anyway.”
You fight back a smile and just shake your head at him, mostly to stop yourself from blurting out that yeah, you do.
Will’s phone starts buzzing again though, and then curiosity stops you from saying anything stupid. You watch as he barely glances at it before ignoring the call and then shoves it back in his jacket pocket and then he changes the subject so quickly you don’t even have time to ask him about it.
It keeps happening though, all throughout breakfast-Will’s phone buzzing with calls and texts and him ignoring it with subject changes or funny quips. You have your suspicions by the fifth or so time it rings, but you don’t get a chance to confirm them until Will gets up to go to the bathroom and leaves his phone behind.
Brooke’s face has appeared on his screen three times by the time he comes back and it’s ringing again when sits back down. Once again, Will barely looks at it as he ignores the call, but this time you frown. “Do you need to go?”
“Nope.” He says, and you can hear the annoyance in his voice. “I’m exactly where I want to be.”
“It doesn’t sound like someone else wants you here.” You say coolly.
“Well, she doesn’t want me to do a lot of things.” Will mutters.
“Then why are you with her?” It comes out before you can stop it and from the look on his face, the outburst surprises Will as much as it does you. “I didn’t-”
“No, go on.” He says and the silence that follows is the most awkward the two of you have ever sat through.
“I just don’t want you to be unhappy.” You say, finally. “If Brooke is who makes you happy, then great! It’s just- whenever you’re with her, you don’t seem like yourself.”
“I’m fine.” He smiles, but it doesn’t quite as bright as usual, and it feels like prime evidence that something isn’t right.
—--
It’s barely a few hours later when you hear the pounding on your door and you begrudgingly pause your twentieth rewatch of New Girl to go answer it.
“Hi?” You step back to let Will in. “Did we have plans again?”
“No.” Will shuts the door behind him. “I just-”
“Oh.” Your face falls. “Oh no. Brooke?”
“Yeah, but-”
You cut him off. “Aw, Will, I’m so sorry!” You loop your arms around him in a hug, which he quickly returns, squeezing tight.
“You’re not.” He mutters into your hair.
“Well.” You fight back a smile into his shoulder. “I mean, I’m not sorry it wasn’t Brooke, but I am sorry it didn’t work out. I know how hard you’ve been trying.” You start to pull back, but he keeps his arm around you.
“She asked me to choose.” He says into your hair and you’re pretty sure you heard correctly, but still, you have to ask him to repeat it. “She asked me to choose. Her or you.”
“Oh.” You bite your lip and try to bury your face in his shoulder again. “Um, how-what did you-.”
Will lifts your chin up with his fingers, carefully looking you in the eye and stopping you from looking away. “There’s no choice, okay? I choose you.”
“What?” You breathe.
“I choose you.” Will repeats. “I choose you. I’ve been choosing you this whole time and I’ve been too dumb to see it. I’ll always choose you.”
“Will.” You breathe out, and for the first time, you actually see him look nervous.
“And I hope, maybe, you’ll choose me too.” Will adds softly, so softly that if you weren’t as close as you are, you aren’t sure you would have heard him.
“Always.” You smile, and that’s all you get to say before Will kisses you.

I always forget if its you or birb who write shifters au but at this point you two are just one lump of ideas so I don't think it matters that much who I send this idea to 😅
Anyway, I have a cat and he's just a few months old and pretty small. But he really likes to "hunt" and find stuff that he bring to me. And he often finds the big stuff, like a pillow twice the size of him or a blanket that he somehow manages to drag to me. That gave me an idea for shifters au about when Lando wants to cuddle up somewhere nice with someone, he brings a blanket and puts it down by the persons feet as to say "let's cuddle".
Just an idea I had haha
Honestly, I think @f1-birb and I have blended into one, and I'm here for it. We already share a brain (I'm not joking, we sent each other the same thoughts at the same time more than is normal) 😅
But you are right in that you could send it to either of us because Shifters is a joint au between my dear Birb and I!
I absolutely love this idea anon, and I just had to do this!
Pierre was watching Lando out of the corner of his eyes The little fox was wandering around their living room as if he was hunting for something. Every so often he would freeze, going completely still before bolted out of sight and all Pierre heard was a little unimpressed huff when Lando didn't mange to catch whatever it was that he was looking for. It made him chuckle whenever the little fox reappeared, growling softly to himself and patting a tiny paw at the ground in a small tantrum.
"Bebé, what are you doing?" Pierre grinned, and leaned forward.
Lando looked at him. His ear flicking a little as he gave Pierre what could only be judged as an exasperated look. He whined as he looked around once more before he seemed to spot something and dart off once more.
Pierre just shook his head and leaned back again. He checked the grid pack chat, firing off a response or two to some meme that Charles has sent into the group before he heard the little pitter patter of feet once more but slower this time.
It took a minute or two before Lando became visible and when he did, Pierre couldn't help but grin.
Lando, all thirteen inches of him, was dragging a blanket that was way to big for him but he seemed determined. He had to stop once or twice, adjusting his grip on it before starting again. He let out little huffs as he moved, almost scooting backwards to drag it to Pierre’s feet and as he dropped it, he grinned. All teeth on display and eyes shining with pride.
"Is that what you wanted? You wanted me to shift and cuddle you, bebé?", Pierre cooed, reaching down to scoop Lando up into his hold and getting excited little yip as he did, "Okay, okay, give me a second"
Lando licked at his chin before he wriggled out of his arms. He looked pointedly at the blanket which Pierre lifted onto the sofa before he moved away to shift.
Lando yipped once more. Little feet making tapping motions on the sofa until Pierre, in his fox form, hopped up. He licked Lando’s cheek before getting cosy on the blanket and leaving space for Lando to wriggle in against his side before he wrapped his tail around them both.
The sigh that the little fox let out this time was one of content as he snuggled in close, eyes already closing and ready to nap.

i am admittedly probably only thinking about this so much because I am writing a paper on a similar topic rn, but.... I think this culture of paying soooo much attention to what the celebrities in the audience of award shows do during certain wins or performances is a bit anyoing nitpicky and fucked up. like "oh artist xy didn't dance along to this song they suck!!" or "they didn't clap during xy's speech ugh they are just pissed they themselves didn't win!" The most famous example probably was the Tori Kelly meme from 2016 where she just happened to look unimpressed during Taylor Swift's speech at the very end of an hours long award show. And sure, yes, this is a work event and we have all had to perform a certain way at work events before, but usually our work events are not televised and broadcast to millions of people who actively want you to fuck up. We as humans are simply not going to look happy or excited for hours on end because it is exhausting as fuck! And with the crowdsourced panopticon of social media going on, this intense policing of every single microexpression also affects us, the average joe, and it's important to remember how much shit factors into the way we behave at every single moment; shit that strangers simply are unable to deduce just by looking at you.

[LILITH]: [she looks at her phone.] “Junsu, shut up or I will put you on BuzzFeed Unsolved." [she directs her last statement to the camera while pointing.]

[TATI]: Five minutes! I got a spam call and I just went along with it before getting bored and hanging up on them.

For the ask meme, Sibling for Killians and Secret for the character of your choice
Secret
So far, the night of casual fun between the four had brought them onto the subject of dating life. A thirty-year-old Lucy, along with Jack, Killian and Chimera had started going around the circle with strange and entertaining dating stories between drinks. And Jack just had to steer the conversation to himself, yet again.
“And that's how I ended up, making nachos with Kathrine Hepburn,” he punctuated the sentence with another sip of whiskey.
The self-aggrandizing story led to unimpressed groans from the other three. Finishing off her drink, Chimera developed a malicious grin. A great story idea!
“Listen Luce, I can tell you for certain that this guy's dating reputation is not as glamorous as he's saying it was,” she said, “I got a really good one about him and a past girlfriend.”
Killian perked up from beside Jack in realization, “Are you gonna tell the story I think you're gonna tell?”
“Absolutely I am!”
“Yes! I love this one!”
Both Jack and Lucy could do nothing but look bewildered at the two very excited spirits.
“Well now my interest is piqued. Tell me about another one of the snowman's blunders,” Lucy spoke up as she set down her wine glass on the table.
“Alright so, this one involves a little satyr lady named Clare he was seeing at the time. A pair of handcuffs and the key!”
Once Chimera had laid out the groundwork of the story Jack immediately remembered the situation she was talking about. He quickly jumped into action, slamming his glass down on the table and shooting up from his seat.
“NO NO NO NO! No no no no no no! You can't keep telling this to everyone you know, it was supposed to be a secret!”
“Mera please start spilling! I gotta know why he doesn't want me to know so bad,” Lucy exclaimed.
“No! I do-” Jack was promptly cut off by a collection of shadow magic covering his mouth.
Killian reached one arm up to grab Jacks and to pull him back down into his seat again, “Quiet Frost, I love this story. Go on Mera.”
Both Killian and Lucy were on the edge of their seats when Chimera began. Jack sank lower into his and his face turned a bright red as she went on.
“So, I'm minding my own business, right? I got a fresh vat of acid I'm working on, when I got a crystal ball message from someone I don't know. Says her name is Clare, she’s with Jack right now and that I need to come over ASAP. Weird right? So, I go over there and what do I find the herald of the winter season doing?
The man is half naked, with one wrist handcuffed to the headboard. Clare, over top of him also with one wrist handcuffed.”
It's at this part that Killian is barely clinging onto the vestiges of restraint and is leaning against a very unamused Jack in silent laughter. Lucy’s eyes widen as she puts the pieces together in her head.
“No. No! He didn't!” she gasps.
“He totally did!” Chimera told the rest of the tale through fits of giggles.
“Clare told me that they got as far as putting the cuffs on, without realizing that the key to unlock them was in the guy's suit jacket. In the other room! They had to call me to walk across the house to get it for them.”
If not for the alcohol, the two redheads of the group would’ve tried to control their laughter out of respect for Jack. But tonight, that simply wasn't going to happen, as they both erupted into simultaneous laughter. Jack, still very unimpressed, was shooting Chimera all kinds of dirty looks as she tried to continue. He thought about how he might need to make new friends after this.
“How on earth am I just hearing about this now?” Lucy asked.
“That's not even the best part! After a solid minute on the floor, I went to unlock them, right? GUESS what this man says to me,” Chimera said.
Killian and Lucy were on the tail end of their spiral, when Jack tried and failed to physically leave the conversation before the worst part kicked in.
“I tried to unlock them, and he stopped me and said, ‘I never asked you to do that. Just leave it on the nightstand where I can get to it. Other than that, you're done here’.”
Lucy's eyes widened as she slowly turned her head toward Jack in disbelief. He refused to make eye contact with her, which only confirmed everything she needed to know.
After the briefest of pauses, the three of the friends went into another laughing fit. It was at this point that the enchantment on Jack’s mouth disappeared, and he could finally talk again.
“I thought you were my friend! What the actual hell Mera!”
In the midst of his humiliation Jack was left to try and stir up an equally embarrassing story about Chimera, or anyone else really, for a taste of their own medicine.
Sibling
The disheveled looking spirit of fear made his way into the garden swiftly and silently. Long strides on the overgrown stone pathway made it difficult for Vic to linger anywhere for too long.
He knew that if he kept up the pace, they would be too scared to be left alone anywhere in Mother Nature's garden.  And would be forced to stick close to him.
Stopping just before the large open pavilion, he stepped off the stone path and leaned against a large tree with his back to the structure. With his arms crossed he could hear the idle chatter of the other legates in the distance.
Around him the dappled light of the canopies he could feel the shadows moving around him. And he could feel Vic moving around in them, very close by.
“I know you didn't bail. Come on out,” he said quietly, just above a whisper.
The shadow of the tree he stood under rippled and darkened, with a red glow emanating from an emerging figure. The shadows dissolved off of the tiny stature that was his own legate. A very tiny goblin child, no older than 14. Their face obscured by a delicate porcelain mask.
“They’re not going to bite ya know,” the boogeyman said.
Vic responded in a soft voice, “The rabbit might...”
Killian paused for a moment before continuing, “Ya know what I’ll give you that one. That kid is a wild card. But you still have to go. You even cut your hair for this and everything.”
The man ruffled the mess of shaggy black hair on the kids head before taking a seat on the grass. Vic shuffled over to the edge of the trunk to try and get a peek at the meeting.
At this point he’s known Vic for years, considers them his own sibling in a way. And by now he is very used to the whole song and dance of their social anxiety and various other phobias. Exceptionally gifted in shadow magic, but just very afraid of a lot of things.
“They’re not gonna like me.”
“Oh yeah? And why is that?”
Vic sat down next to Killian, crossing their legs in the same manner as he had his, “Nobody does. Nobody likes the boogeyman.”
“That has some truth in it,” Killian reaches over to put a reassuring hand on Vic’s shoulder.
“The job has always been a little misunderstood. But these people are gonna be the ones to really understand that it is just a job. These people, out of everyone else, know how to separate the work life and the person attached to it. They're not as judgmental or violent as you think.”
Vics posture relaxes ever so slightly, as an exhale tries to escape through the mask. Through the anxiety ridden thoughts, they knew that Killian was ultimately right. Hopefully.
Sensing the lingering doubt in the legate, the shadow spirit decided to add one last bit of incentive. Just to push the kid over the edge.
“Aaaand if you do go, and you don't freak out too much, there might be a time slot later to go to the black market.”
He couldn't see it, but he could practically feel the wondrous smile behind the white porcelain.
“Really?”
Killian smiled back down at them, “Maybe. If you actually talk to someone there."
“I’ll go to the meeting. But that's all I can promise you," Vic said standing back up.
“Well, the meeting is mandatory either way. You might be overestimating your decision-making power here.”
In one swift motion, Killian grabbed Vics ankles and stood back up with the legate hanging upside down. Their laugh was still quiet but much louder than their previous whisper. And their laughter in amusement only continued as he started shaking them midair for good measure. The goblin half-heartedly tried kicking themselves free but to no avail.
After a few more good earthquake imitations, Killian set his legate back down on the ground, and sent them on their way to the meeting.

Yes, thank you for the advice. She's coming back this weekend. I just feel like she's not that interested in anything I like. Like I was to go to this concert and I asked if she'd like to be my date and she said "lol okay" and that we were invited to a dinner party next week and she said "do I have to come?" And these aren't bad responses but they are the type of responses I am used to getting from her at this point, if I want to go out, if I want to watch something, if we are planning to eat. She never plans dates anymore and the other day I said she wasn't really romancing anymore and she got all moody so now I worry how she'll react. Like I said if she wanted to go the place we has our first date when she comes back and she just said "sure". This summer when we were LDR I tried to visit her but she was kinda like "whatever" and when I asked her friend if I could stay with her (since I can't stay with my GF bc of her family) my gf got annoyed I was "inconveniencing" her friend but I was under the impression her friend had a guest room that was available and my GF was the one who told me about it! When I got really upset about how much more I seem to miss her than she misses me she said it's different because she's in her hometown with her family and friends and I'm alone with the dog in our uni city but she does miss me. I don't know I am really sad I feel like we're not in love anymore she's just used to being in a relationship but today she sent me a meme implying we're in a healthy relationship and she did ask what kind of gift I wanted from a work trip she's currently on. So I genuinely think she thinks everything is perfect but does she not realize it's not?
I'm supposed to super clean our home tomorrow before she gets home on Saturday because I've let my depression get the best of me and everything is a mess but in reality I just want to sit down and cry because I genuinely feel like we don't love each other anymore. She called today to complain about her work trip and I told her I had a headache and hung up but in reality I didn't want to talk to her. And I did end up visiting once (just for a day not overnight) and the whole time she seemed kinda unimpressed by my being there. She was strict about no PDA because where she lives there's lots of asians and we're WLW and that I understand culturally it's different than my hippie community but she seemed to think it was silly of me to look at her a lot or that I wanted to sit next to her and stuff. I don't know maybe I'm sensitive but I feel like we have lost a lot and it's crazy to me she doesn't seem to see that. Hopefully we will work it out but still I am currently heartbroken.
:(( I'm sorry that does sound like a rough situation to be in. I totally understand feeling upset bc of the short responses like "lol okay" and "sure" to date and event requests. it just feels dismissive to something you're probably really excited for. and it's not fair for her to get and remain moody after you point something out about her; that makes it difficult to further address the issue and have an actual conversation to get to the root of the problem.
that's frustrating too that she doesn't seem to be making it easy for you to visit her. no PDA is fair but she knows you miss her like crazy so it's only natural you'd want to stick by her side as much as you can.
all that to add: I do want to give her benefit of the doubt bc obv idk either of you and it's also the whole being in someone else's shoes thing. so I suppose from her corner, she does have a point that her being in her hometown vs you being in your uni town will make it so that it is less lonely for her than it is for you. like that does makes sense. as well that her work stress might be overlapping with your loneliness and depression in a way that is making her more snappy and you to be lost in your thoughts.... maybe? idk I just know that when I'm left to my own thoughts for too long that they can spiral in a negative direction.
or maybe, it's just that some people deal with being in a LDR better than others. in your gf's head, maybe it does still feel like normal for her even if it feels on the verge of collapse from your end. being left to your own devices with different forms of distraction for both of you can have different results. it's definitely something to have a sit-down to talk about when she's back.
wishing you the energy to do a little bit of cleaning and to get through these discussions; I know both can be difficult <3

Storm on Twitter as big bird Musk enters with a mask of free speech

Storm on Twitter as big bird Musk enters with a mask of free speech

In football, when there is a prolonged quiet, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a timeless footballer who plies his trade in Italy for AC Milan, resurfaces with something to say.
Often controversial, his chest-thumping and ridiculous comments that target fellow players, belittling them while exalting himself, cause excitement and elicit debate.
On Twitter, this was what former US President Donald Trump was mainly known for. But after the January 6 insurrection where his supporters thronged, and threatened to tear down the US Capitol in Washington, DC, he was booted out of Twitter.

While his supporters cried foul over what they claimed was suppression of free speech, billionaire Elon Musk became even more vocal on Twitter’s capitulation, which included locking out Mr Trump.
Mr Musk, the entrepreneur known for founding SpaceX, Starlink, The Boring Company, and for being a long-time owner and head of Tesla, was faulted for influencing markets with his erratic tweets. And then one day, tired of censorship, he said he was buying Twitter.
In April, he bought a $2.9 billion (about Sh350 million) stake in Twitter, a 9.2 per cent ownership that made him the majority shareholder. Soon after, he agreed, with the board, that he was buying the social media platform for $44 billion (Sh5.4 trillion).
After protracted court battles, Musk had threatened to pull out of the deal due to what he termed the social media company’s breach of multiple provisions of the merger agreement. He finally bought Twitter.
Immediately, many dynamics shifted. Top executives, including Twitter’s Chief Executive Parag Agrawal, Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal, and legal affairs and policy chief were fired. Mr Musk was in full control.
A debate on whether Mr Musk, who claims to be an advocate for free speech, would reinstate Mr Trump onto the platform abound. Mr Trump, not one to be pinned down, continued disseminating his agenda on his Truth platform even as multiple trials targeting him ran in the background, and his house was ransacked and himself subpoenaed.
But after Mr Musk had “freed the bird”, his ascent to the hot seat saw the use of the N-word on the platform immediately shoot up by nearly 500 per cent. “An emboldened cast of anonymous trolls spewed racist slurs and Nazi memes onto Twitter in the hours after billionaire industrialist Elon Musk took over the social network,” Washington Post wrote.
Almost immediately after, Mr Musk announced that he would be charging everyone who had the blue checkmark, famously known as the blue tick, $20 a month to keep it. There was uproar over this, the few who have the verification mark, and those who aimed at getting it, clearly unimpressed. He reacted to the furore by lowering the charge to $8 a month.
“Twitter’s current lords and peasants’ system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit. Power to the people! Blue for $8 a month,” tweeted the richest man in the world.
Reactions, including people willing to voluntarily cede ownership of the coveted badge, did not rattle him. “To all complainers, please continue complaining, but it will cost $8,” he wrote, a comment that attracted a million likes.
The techpreneur, who is followed by 113.9 million Twitter users, has seen his frantic moves affect the company’s fortunes, data show.
The MIT Technology Review reported that Bot Sentinel, a firm which tracks inauthentic behavior on Twitter by analyzing more than 3.1 million accounts and their activity daily, “believes that around 877,000 accounts were deactivated and a further 497,000 were suspended between October 27 and November 1”. Mr Musk closed the deal on October 27.
Further, said Bot Sentinel, 11,535 accounts they were monitoring had been deactivated, “meaning someone chose to close an account down”.
“A further 6,824 were suspended, which happens when Twitter proactively removes accounts for inactivity, inauthenticity, or violation of site rules. That’s approximately 0.59 per cent of the accounts Bot Sentinel monitors.  In the week before Musk bought Twitter, only 5,958 accounts were deactivated or suspended, suggesting a 208 per cent increase in account losses in the days after the purchase went through,” Bot Sentinel said.
A platform that has been fast rising, and on which Kenyans have formed a formidable battalion that stands like a social media army to safeguard local interests, could be in jeopardy, pessimists would say.
It is harder to get followers and reactions on Twitter than on other platforms, many would say. Yet Twitter brings diversity unlike any other platforms’ and, in one trusted arena, subjects can trade barbs with their leaders as much as they please.
Some 22.38 per cent of Kenyans were on the platform as of October 2022, according to data from Statcounter. Only Facebook had a higher membership – 53.68 per cent of Kenyans.
But unlike Facebook, Twitter has, in the past, been seen as a platform for the chosen few, the avenue where leaders can engage in debates with their subjects and where people of note can confidently post their sentiments and generate debate. Sometimes, those who bring small talk are unanimously referred back to other sites “where everyone is”.
On Twitter, organisations inform on what they plan to do, or are doing. Generally, there is more trust in content posted on Twitter than there is for equivalent information on other sites. Every self-respecting organisation, or person, fancies to be on Twitter, and to have a blue checkmark. As such, change of guard, and of policy, would certainly elicit mixed reactions.
The blue tick is Twitter’s ultimate mark of quality. It makes one more trustworthy and more respectable. It increases interactions, as well. It also distinguishes real account owners from fraudsters.
Calls for freedom of speech have been widely questioned by minorities who often are the recipients of the callousness of the free-speaking keyboard warriors. At some point ahead of the United States’ 2020 election, and in the aftermath, Twitter flagged numerous misleading Tweets from Mr Trump, whose rowdy followers were hell-bent on preventing President Joe Biden’s ascension to the presidency.
Reuters wrote that Mr Musk “was deluged with pleas and demands from banned account holders and world leaders” immediately after the takeover.
Amidst all the pressure and the desire to stamp authority, the new boss has announced a new phase of firings, vowing to reduce the staff at Twitter as he solely makes the decisions.
It is believed he wants to cut about 3,700 jobs. The billionaire, who is said to have overpaid for Twitter by about $20 billion (Sh2.4 trilllion), is believed to want to slash the workforce by up to 50 per cent as he brings the company back to profitability.
Comedian and talk show host Trevor Noah recently said Mr Musk was hoping subscribers were going to make the same mistake he made and pay for the account verification, the blue checkmark so he would recoup his money.
On the upside, subscribers may now have to contend with fewer advertisements, with Musk favouring a subscription-based model over advertiser funding as he shakes off advertisers’ nagging. Also, tweets might get a bit longer and threads, thus, shorter.
But without a clear pathway into how he will beat vile racists while allowing free speech, the platform might become a conduit for hate speech and division, and a money-minting premise.

hey everyone, it’s coco (she/her, est, struggling high school senior) here !! super excited to be here and present my new baby: xie yulan aka arcana’s main vocalist, ciel ~~ here’s her profile page, her career page, and a short points explanation if you’re into that
below the cut I’ll give a short rundown of ciel ^^
✶ a chengdu native and enjoys flexing that because of the “sichuan girls are the prettiest” stereotype 💀💀💀 it’s actually because she has nothing better to say on shows and her panicked inclusion of that stereotype in her select! introduction was what brought her the most initial attention ✶ she embodies that performing arts kid stereotype: she’s done a bunch of music-related extracurriculars since she was a toddler, absolutely obsessed with musicals, went to a conservatory-affiliated middle school, breezed through the yikaos and into university ✶ yulan has a twin brother, xie keyu, and their relationship is… complicated ✶ basically growing up he was the Perfect Child and she ended up being super bitter towards him as a result and so basically they had no relationship growing up (they’re trying to patch things up now) ✶ a very all-or-nothing type of person ✶ she does not keep up nor does she stan any idol groups ✶ super super into musicals, which is how she learnt most of her korean and japanese ✶ her korean is oddly lyrical and has an almost musical cadence because of that 😭 people also think she’s much better at korean than she actually is because of all her pronunciation ✶ in reality she really just memorized enough songs to sound like she knows what’s she’s saying ✶ created a progressive rock/metal all girls band in high school names moonlight ✶ moonlight never really went anywhere, but was super influential in that that was what inspired yulan to continue down the performing arts instead of the more behind the scenes music engineering work ✶ fairly easygoing and pleasant of a person, but her poor korean skills paired with her general camera discomfort make her a poor idol off stage ✶ her inability to win games and properly get interviewed (her perpetual state of confusion and innocent bluntness does not make for a great pairing) have become somewhat of a fandom meme ✶ despite that, she has a very captivating, almost blinding aura to her and her presence is therefore hard to ignore ✶ her friends say it’s her height doing all that work ✶ speaking of aura, she also naturally exudes this “I did this for the arts and not the charts” aura so a lot of blunter comments she makes tend to be swept under that ~misunderstood artist~ excuse ✶ tdlr: don’t fall for first impressions and think that yulan is some coldly elegant/princess-like person, she’s much more like a dumb and innocent child once you actually get to know her 💀 and if she’s really comfortable with you, then good luck with dealing with her trolling ✶ girl absolutely 100% needs one person or two (or three or four) to guide her around and make sure she doesn’t fall for some contractual pithole and get evil edited to hell in shows ✶ although she actually has zero clue as to what she wants to do with her life — she actually joined select! as a self discovery trip of sorts and accidentally debuted lmao — she is a very hard worker super dedicated to her craft ✶ arcana >>> everything, yulan will sacrifice anything to keep arcana as a group going, including solo opportunities and artistic differences ✶ absolutely terrified of the cold, she probably was lugging around a blanket and a massive thermos of hot water around company buildings during the winter (and fall. and maybe a good part of spring too) ✶ she doesn’t actually really care for the whole fan aspect of idol life, her idea of success is the type where everyone recognizes her skills and works instead of her as a person of that makes sense ✶ also has burnt one bridge too many during select! to be fair, she didn’t expect to actually debut and had been pretty unimpressed with several aspects of the show so she was fairly forward with her criticism ✶ so in a way that whole misunderstood artist impression is true for her
anyways, I really don’t know what else to add here so if you’ve managed to end up all the way down here and would like to work out some plots/connections, feel free to hit that like button and I’ll try and get to you asap !!
