This year, the server is doing a small month long challenge for our lovely writers and artists.
Each of the 4 weeks of June has a very general prompt (we've included some ideas if you have trouble thinking of anything, though you don't have to use those at all).

The Error
The Error is an interactive fiction that is very much a work in progress. Updates will be very far apart, seeing as this is a side project and I’m off for summer and will go back to school shortly. ———————————————————————

The Error is about a retired villain that wants nothing more than to live a semi-normal life, but when a bunch of new villains threaten the MC’s city, MC is dragged kicking and screaming to help save the day by the city’s hero team. Will MC be a hero for the first time? Or will MC go back to their villainous ways? Will MC be able to have a decent sleep schedule? Unfortunately for MC, that’s for you to decide!
This game will feature:
A customizable MC from gender (whether Cis, Trans, or one that believes gender is a social construct) to if MC thinks pineapple belongs on pizza
Choices that will have consequences for every action and affect your relationships with others (sorry people pleasers, you will not be pleased)

RO OPTIONS:
Sawyer (he/him); Sawyer is a the previous police chief of the NYPD and has arrested MC plenty of times. He now is the commissioner of the NY Hero Team and is absolutely desperate to take down the newest villains, so he recruits (read as kidnaps) a retired villain in hopes of finally being able to take down the new villains. Will MC be able to change his mind about them? Can there be love or friendship between these two enemies?
Jordan (gender selectable); Jordan is apart of the NY Hero Team and is known as the Pied Piper for their ability of being able to convince people to do as they say. They are known to be easy going and aloof. But hearing that an ex-villain will be joining the team, now that has their attention. How will MC react to their attention? Is this just another fling for Jordan or will MC be able to retain Jordan’s attention?
Rory (they/them); Rory is apart of the NY Hero Team and is known as Guard for their force fields. They are known for being a ray of sunshine to everyone and everyone loves them! Hearing that a villain is joining the team, Rory has set out to change MC’s ways to the more heroic sort. With so much competition for Rory’s heart, will MC be able to win? Will Rory let go of trying to change MC and love them for them?
Quinn (gender selectable); Quinn is apart of the NY Hero Team and is known as Obscure for their power of manipulating shadows. They know about the MC being a villain, but they don’t really care or do they? It’s just so hard to tell with Quinn being so shy. Will MC be able to convince Quinn to lower their guard? Will Quinn ever be able to express themselves?
Hayden (she/her); Hayden is apart of the NY Hero Team and is known as Cicatrize for her powers of healing.As the resident healer for the team, Hayden knows to treat everyone the same and tend to their injuries with care, but knowing that the MC is a villain leaves Hayden feeling uneasy. Will Hayden get over MC’s past? Will MC be able to gain Hayden’s trust and potentially her love?
Rowan (he/him); Rowan is apart of the NY Hero Team and is known as Glitch for his teleportation power. Being team leader is hard enough but having to babysit a new teammate that happens to be a villain is impossible. Rowan wants nothing more than MC to stay quiet and on the sidelines. Will MC be able to prove their self to him? Will he get it through his thick head that MC could be into him?
Kai (gender selectable); Kai is the MC’s childhood lover/friend/enemy (depending on your choice) and is apart of the new villain league. They are known as Drifter because of their power of super speed. Kai and MC have not spoken since MC quit being a villain. But that doesn’t mean they haven’t been keeping tabs on MC. Will MC and Kai ever rekindle what they once had or will they start something new?

“Lady Java’s Tignons” from The Color Pynk: Black Femme Art for Survival by Omise’eke Natasha Tinsley (2022)

Viewing the world through rose-tinted glasses shaped like butterfly wings, edged in rhinestones, and fringed with hanging beads, Sir Lady Java identifies herself to interviewer Pasqual Bettio in 2016: “We’re called transsexuals, basically, because I’m in a trance about my sex.” Born in New Orleans in 1940, Java—who transitioned with family support at a young age—was a mainstay of Los Angeles’s nightclub scene in the 1960s and ’70s. Billed as the “World’s Loveliest Female Impersonator,” she “appeared in shows all over the West Coast with such personalities as Nancy Wilson, Redd Foxx, Lena Horne, Louis Jordan, James Brown, Isaac Hayes, Joe Tex, Ray Charles, B.B. King, and Quincy Jones,” according to the brochure “Who Is Java?”
As she rose to prominence, she became a target for police harassment. In 1967, the LAPD raided the Redd Foxx Club to arrest her for violating Rule No. 9, an ordinance that prohibited trans women from appear- ing in public with less than three articles of male clothing. But when Java—performing in a bikini, bow tie, slim men’s wristwatch, and tiny socks—proved unarrestable, police threatened to revoke the club’s license or to imprison Foxx himself.
Java understood this police harassment as racialized: “We didn’t know of any establishment that was white that they [the LAPD] were stopping [from employing impersonators], but they were definitely targeting me, because I was queen of the Black ones and they feel that they had more trouble out of the Black ones.” Java responded by picketing the Redd Foxx Club (which dropped her act) and hiring the ACLU to mount a lawsuit against the LAPD.
Lady Java’s stage career continued brilliantly through the ’70s and ’80s, garnering positive press from Jet, Ebony, Sepia, and L.A. Advocate. Her career highlight, she tells Bettio, was performing for Lena Horne at a 1978 birthday party that Horne hosted for her “sister Cancerian, Gertrude Gibson,” where Horne enthused to Jet about her interaction with Java: “I had the feeling I was talking to a friend I had known for a long while... I feel sort of... protective [of Java]. I don’t know, because that’s my sign—Cancer—always trying to be somebody’s mama!”
To impress Ms. Horne, Java wore a spangled bikini and towering beaded headpiece whose curving contours—like many of the dramatically draped cloth, carefully sculpted tulle, and angel-wing feather wraps she crowned herself with—recall the tulip-shaped tignons (cloth turbans) made famous by her sister Louisiana Creoles. In an attempt to curb their social and sexual power, in 1786 Louisiana governor Esteban Miró decreed all women of African descent must cover their hair with knotted cloth and refrain from “excessive attention to dress.” But as Carolyn Long notes, “Instead of being considered a badge of dishonor, the tignon became a fashion statement. The bright reds, blues, and yellows of the scarves, and the imaginative wrapping techniques employed by their wearers, are said to have enhanced the beauty of women of color.” When Java turned her three articles of “male” clothing into high-femme sexiness, she followed in the footsteps of these foremothers’ fashion warfare.
Transforming the accessories meant to shame Black women into sexlessness into pure sexiness, Java declares, she chose “to wear beautiful outfits so a woman can be proud of me when she sees me. I don’t dress for men; I dress for women.”
By the 1990s Java was “enjoying a quieter life, retiring and, sadly, undergoing some serious health challenges,” according to Transas City. These challenges include a stroke from which, Java tells Bettio, “I lost a portion of my brain.” During her 2016 interviews with Bettio, her memories and historical records part ways: sometimes in small ways, as when she remembers performing for Horne at the Memory Lane supper club rather than the Pied Piper; sometimes in more significant ways, as when she proudly recalls winning her lawsuit against the LAPD.
“I went to court on it, and I won LAPD. I won the right for Java to work, meaning other impersonators could work also,” she recounts—though in fact her case was thrown out on a technicality. It would be easy to indulge the incoherence of her memories as post-stroke cognitive impairment. But it would also be easy to honor that incoherence as its own kind of freedom dream—an alternative history that translates the sinuous, undocumentable ways that change can happen.
After the publicity of her case, she reports, “They [other female impersonators] say: We’re able to go to work, and we’re all going [to] work the next day, and we’re going to put on the three male articles [of clothing], and they did the same thing I did: socks and the wristwatch and the bowtie if they wore bikinis . . . little bowties, some of them were jeweled.” Isn’t a flock of jeweled bow ties bouncing light off foremothers’ jeweled tignons another kind of win—another something to celebrate? How do we count and commemorate ways rewired and differently wired Black femme senses make a true story truer, more plentiful, more splendored?

theyre a pair of twin beasts, middle schoolers! i have no idea who is hazelnut and who is chestnut i kept calling them both names like that, theyre they/them in the way there are always two kids. these kids are beasts(?) that look like human but with magic and animal ears and tails. theyre adopted by a desi family of wizards so they do witchy spellcasting stuff. their names are in vietnamese cause. well im viet, and theyre kind of a ripoff of a vietnamese early 2000s tv show about a family of wizards (LOL) coming to the human world and try to blend in, except mine is just about the family trying to take care of these two beasts and the shenanigans revolve around them! if i were to continue writing them now i'd probably do the sitcom format, something like old d*sney channel series like wizard of waverly place (wait i think i also stole from this LMAO) or good luck charlie where the focus is on the interpersonal relationships of everyone in the family and how they are to the kids, growing as they learn to take care of them? idk. but this was 2012, i was 12, so i ripped from cardcaptor sakura and ben10 and pokémon or other similar video games to make them into mahou-kodomo shounen protags going around different worlds capturing creatures-of-the-week but theyre all in the back of my head now </3 vote for them if you like little animal freaks that would crawl on the floor chewing furniture and bite each other then cry to mom

Three nights with a seemingly carefree drifter gives Aiden a taste of what he could have if he left. He's never met anyone with silver hair and colorful wing tattoos who plays the flute, dances, and goes by they.
Wren can lure rats with their music, and the Marquess agrees on a fee if the village is cleared of the infestation. When the Marquess refuses to pay, and the Prior accuses them of witchcraft, Wren has no choice but to leave.
But not without taking something with them.
Mod opinion: I haven't heard of this Pied Piper retelling before, but it sounds interesting.

Also I really wish people would quote saint-dionysus rather than just... talk about him like some sort of mesmerizing cult leader. Dude is a Latino man with a history of literal physical transphobic (since some people don't like "transmisandry") violence against him.
People talk about him like he's the pied piper and never even cite. It's bizarre to me.
I eventually unfollowed him myself because I felt he demanded too much political purity from people, so I get not liking him!
But I really feel like a mythology has grown up around him that has very little to do with those of us who agreed with him, partially agreed with him, thought he had a point, etc.
And it's not lost on me how a man of color is being talked about as sexually violent, too... especially when the thing people like to say he did wrong was... consent to role-play with a trans woman that was too extreme for him and that he eventually gave up on.
It's mythologizing him as a villain because he left a toxic discussion, it's at least a little racist, and it really needs to stop.

jeremy is a kid of cinderella, jake's a charming kid. brooke is also a charming kid, but like. in the "her and jake are more cousins than siblings" way but tbh genetics? murky in eah. chloe is a beauty & the beast kid. jenna is the kid of the boy who cried wolf, christine is a wonderland kid (probably alice), michael's pied piper, and rich is a goldilocks kid

so it's deere endgame bc im a whore for it. jeremy's a cinderella kid, but he'd be a rebel because he really doesn't. want that? he thinks he'll be put with brooke, the female charming kid, because he's a dude. he also doesn't want the bad parts of the story- mostly for his sister, esther, who would have to be his "evil" and "ugly" stepsister. so he doesn't sign the storybook of legends.
jake is a charming kid. he's been prepared for his whole life to be a prince for chloe's story, but he doesn't really like that idea. he doesn't see himself as very beastly, but the expectations of him being an arrogant asshole kind of drag him down. he has a sort of secret relationship with jeremy, and he ends up signing the book because it shows him jeremy as his destiny.
chloe is the kid of beauty and the beast. she spends her whole life thinking she's beauty, all prim and proper. except it goes to her head- she's one of the most important stories, everyone thinks so. she ends up being the beast in her story rather than the beauty, because she has to learn a lesson about egotism and humility.
brooke expects to not have a "real" destiny because she's a female charming. she is kind of chloe's shadow for their entire lives because she doesn't have a story set for her. (she ends up supposed to be the beauty/princess in chloe's story, because i like toxicity. she doesn't like chloe though, and she doesn't want to sign the book either.)
rich is a goldilocks kid. he is kind of the black sheep, because he chopped all his "golden blonde" hair off. bc my rich is always and forever trans. he's easily susceptible to peer pressure, even if he says he isn't, and is focused on everything being 'just right.' him and brooke are close because they both feel kind of shit about their stories and their friends.
christine is alice. she's close enough to wonderland to be a little bit. eccentric. she's always curious, always looking for new adventures. she is just so very good and i adore her, i don't have much to say about her in this au oddly she just appears and says fun things then leaves and we love her for it
michael is a pied piper kid. he's not a rebel by choice, he doesn't MIND his story, but he doesn't really like kids. he's fine with it but like. he's a rebel because jeremy is, mostly, and because he doesn't like the idea of like. yk. being forced into one box.
and finally, jenna is the kid of the boy who cried wolf. she's eternally stuck in a place where everyone believes her, but her words never come true. the exact opposite always happens. she still gossips, though, because its the one time people pay attention to her. she is a rebel because she doesn't wanna get eaten lmao

Once again I am rotting my brain so heres an au I made up that is very oddly specific and completely self indulgent
I have some smvtty hcs about this au but I'll put those in a different post :3
Warning for brief mentions of vaping and marijuana use
It's a human au that centers around a ship of 12 and dhawan!master
For the sake of simplicity and the au, 12s human name is Basil and the master will be named O
Basil is basically the same 12 we know and love but he's so fucking gay. Like, so fuckin gay. He's 59 years old and mainly uses he/they pronouns but he doesnt really care what you call him.
O is 39 years old and hes an intersex trans man who uses he/they pronouns. Hes very feisty, eccentric, just very feral chaotic neutral
Basil is autistic but he's pretty outgoing despite not being very socially aware sometimes.
O has ADHD and some ASD traits. Some of his hyperfixations are with indian/southeast asian mythology and history, MLM/gay culture, marine biology and birds
Some of basil's special interests are the history of rock/jazz/blues, music history and culture in general, all metal genres, all kinds of guitar, the Doom games (mainly the classics), balisong flipping and knives in general
They do share some special interests as well, mainly music history, gay culture, and general history/mythology
13 and yaz are in this too. Human 13 uses the name Jordan, uses any pronouns, and is 40 years old. Shes a tattoo artist and has ADHD and tourettes.
Yaz is 36 years old, uses she/her, and does singing and voice acting for a living.
Bill is an old friend of Basil and O, she actually kinda got them together originally. Shes not much different from canon Bill, she still calls Basil grandad and likes talking about music and queer culture with him.
Bill and yaz are the closest best friends. They actually used to date but they just decided they felt better as besties.
Clara is also an old friend of Basil. Shes 34, uses she/her, and is a super chill tumblr vet who's an absolute womanizer. Shes like the futch lesbian friend who vapes, smokes weed on the weekends, only ever wears baggy hoodies, and can make any lesbian within a 10 mile radius flock to her like the sapphic pied piper. She's also in a casual and open relationship with bill
O and Jordan (human!13) have always been like frenemies. Like they platonically love each other but they also love bickering and arguing over the stupidest shit

My overly extensive answer to "Where do I start with Pratchett?":
Purists might tell you to start at the beginning (The Color of Magic) and read in order, while others say the first two books aren't up to par with the rest of the series and to really "get" Pratchett you should start with Guards! Guards. Those are the two most popular starting points for the Discworld series.
BUT
You asked where to start with Pratchett and that opens up some possibilities. There's Good Omens, which he wrote with Neil Gaiman and which has been adapted beautifully in 2019 (worth the watch, even without having read the book).
Or you could start where he did, with Carpet People, a book he wrote when he was 15 and re-wrote as an adult. Follow that up with Dark Side of the Sun and Strata and you get a sense of his world building prowess and his sarcasm. Especially Strata shows his annoyance at the depiction of women in scifi at the time (and still).
Basically Pratchett wrote out of spite. His teacher once told him he wouldn't amount to anything and that fueled an astonishing career. Pratchett was annoyed at so many things and in stead of saying outright "this is stupid", he'd demonstrate it by spoofing it or taking ideas to their logical conclusions.
All that to tell you to be aware not to take anything at face value. Anything and everything can be (and probably is) an allusion to something in the real world that Pratchett either found interesting or disagreed with. And there is a lot he found interesting or disagreed with.
All THAT to tell you this: Pratchett gets you because he knew SO much. The joy of Pratchett is finding the links to the real world, even finding new ones on the twelfth read. The joy of having read his works over and over again is that you see him and his world in everyday life.
The best way to get into Pratchett is to experience that recognition and you can experience that by picking the book that comes closest to your expertise, your hobby, your subject.

After you read two or three out of order like this, it's probably easiest to start at the beginning. You're invested (and probably addicted) at that point, so you'll be able to deal with the first two books.
