After Aoyama is revealed as the traitor and removed from the hero course, pending legal judgement and a lengthy review, Shinsou is given his seat in the hero course.
In 1-A.
The tightest, most trauma-bonded group of students in the school.
Shinsou knows to temper his expectations as he arrives on his first day. His classmates are likely to either be angry at the betrayal, grieving the loss of one of their own, or bitter with Hitoshi for replacing their friend. He expects to be about as welcome as a thumb in an open wound.
It's fine, he tells himself. He's taken worse. He's not here to make friends anyway, and Shinsou is good at putting his head down, disappearing, and getting through.
When things are better than he let himself hope for, he's suspicious and waiting for the other shoe to drop. Everyone is... friendly enough. There's a few glances toward him through the day, and a lot of curiosity during heroics training. But no one seems to hold his presence against him.
It's... nice.
Except. Shinsou wonders.
No one seems to really miss Aoyama. He couldn't tell you, from looking around the groups settled at lunch, the social currents of the class, where he'd fit in. There is no particularly hushed clique, no deep sense of absence.
(Was Aoyama also good at disappearing and getting through? How lonely had he been?)
Shinsou stares at the glitter that lingers in his dorm room carpet, unable to be removed despite multiple deep cleanings, and wonders about the boy who left it, whose quirk was both a blessing and a curse, and who seemed to be much like smoke and mirrors -- glamour and flash, but ghostly and illusory beneath it. Alone in a crowd.
(Maybe they could have been friends.)

Despite Your Good Intentions series by xylophones. yagi toshinori moves into midoriya izuku's apartment building when he is eleven. this has a ripple effect that leads to midoriya izuku becoming the youngest licensed intern that japan has seen, and spirals from there. one of my favorite series!!! 204k, hurt/comfort
Thick Blood, Sweet Water by litbynosun (@coldwind-shiningstars). aizawa shouta and midoriya inko are siblings who only reunite after midoriya izuku has started his first year at UA. 15k, family fluff

~MY HERO ACADEMIA FIC RECS PART 2~
appassionato (for a halcyon winter) by bonnia (oneshot // 29k)
“That boy…” His mother gives him a tired smile. “The music he plays is incredibly sad, isn’t it?”
Shouto blinks, because Bakugou’s music has never made him feel anything but an inexplicable feeling of freedom. But that’s the beauty of it, he supposes — that the meaning of music lies in the ears of its beholder.
“I don’t know,” he answers honestly. “But I think it’s beautiful.”

The FEELS. Oh shit, they hit me like a truck. I cried while watching Your Lie In April and I cried while reading this. I am in love with this fic and the idea of musicians!todobaku occupies my brain 24/7.
2. Alcohol Speaks Louder Than Words by CelticMoone (incomplete // currently at 6k)
“I don’t think so,” his dad said, wiping his chin with the back of his palm to rid himself of the dribble of wine that fell from his lips.
“And why the hell not? You feeling threatened?” Katsuki challenged.
Hitoshi was sure he was delirious at this point. There was no way in hell he was sitting in his father’s home, listening to Katsuki drunkenly argue for his hand in marriage. That just didn’t compute.
Damn, he’d really have to apologize to Denki for all the times he’d teased him for frying his brain. Hitoshi now knew exactly what it felt like and, man, oh man, was it literal torture.
“I shouldn’t be the one afraid of threats, Bakugo. If you so much as lay an unholy finger on my son I will make sure your life is a living hell.” His father’s words were chilling. His face sported a less than comforting grin, hands folded neatly under his chin.
OR
Katsuki and Hitoshi get married whilst drunk, much to Aizawa's chagrin. Come join my brainrot in attempts to see how this will play out :)

3. To Watch You Fall (is a beautiful thing) by ChaoticHeart (complete // 62k, 10 chapters)
Aizawa has witnessed many relationships bloom over the course of his years teaching at U.A.
In the end, whether these relationships last or not doesn’t matter to him. He has never been invested in the romantic endeavors of his students, and it’s easier to view their relationships with a sense of detachment, knowing that many of them will inevitably crash and burn.
They’re all so young- they’ll get it right eventually, he would say to himself.
But this… this is Hitoshi they’re talking about, and suddenly, like a switch being thrown, Aizawa finds himself caring all too much about the personal lives of his students.
He never thought he’d be in a position to watch his adopted son slowly fall in love (with Class 1-A’s resident gremlin, of all people), yet here he is.

This was such a satisfying ride. Although it is outsider POV (Aizawa's), it all feels very clear. I love how EraserMic are polar opposites lol. The fic came together beautifully and I loved the slow descent of how Shinsou and Bakugou got together (though maybe Aizawa was getting a bit impatient-).

5. Motivation to a Realization by NeonBlackRoseRevived (oneshot // 5k)
It's common for first years in the Heroics course at U.A to write a mandatory essay on how and why they would become a villain. No, this is not some attempt and making sure there are no traitors, and no this is not done to discriminate between quirks. This essay is used to get future heroes thinking about what-if's that could make or break them. This is for future heroes to know what to do, what to expect if one ever deflects or something else happens to make them become villains.
Bakugou doesn't want to write this stupid essay, but like hell, he's going to get himself kicked out of the Heroics course for not completing it.

jealousy, jealousy || b. katsuki
chapter nine
masterlist
part of you is concerned what, or who, you’ll find at your door when you arrive home. nothing and no one is there. relief has never tasted more like the bitterness of disappointment, and it bites deep into your already aching heart. you unlock your door, and shuffle in, dropping your bag with a heavy thud.
you’ve been holed up at hitoshi’s for almost a week, leaving only for classes. and yet your apartment does not hold that stale scent that hints at being unlived in. in fact, the pile of jackets you had left piled on the sofa are gone, the dishes in the sink washed and stacked above the sink, and you’re pretty sure the floor has been swept and cleaned. hitoshi must have cleaned it all up the time he was here. your heart warms, and you thank whatever entity above that loves you enough to at least let you have hitoshi in your life.
(you wish it loves you more though, to let you keep katsuki selfishly close to you, to let his heart belong to you.)
taking a step towards the kitchen, you hear footsteps coming from behind the main door. your heart jerks; dreading, hopeful. you creep towards the door, peering out the peephole. it gives another traitorous thump at the sight, and you’re not quite sure how to feel.
katsuki stands there, fist raised as if to knock on the door. he looks unsure, a foreign expression on his usually so self-assured demeanor. his hand wavers, and he makes to turn. you watch as he repeats the actions several times, wavering, until his face hardens. as if he comes to a resolution, katsuki turns back to face your door and suddenly your breathing sounds too loud, too harsh. you hold it, terrified he knows you’re there.
he raps on the door sharply, once, twice, thrice. you bite your tongue, nails digging into your sweaty palms. should you open the door? are you ready to face him? your ears ring from the deafening silence, but it does not last long, broken when katsuki calls your name. you freeze.
“i don't know if you’re home, or if you’ve even been home since… since that night.” katsuki’s voice is raspier than usual. he doesn’t know you’re there… your shoulders slump in relief. you can't help from pressing against the door a little closer to hear him better. “if you’re there, i just… i just want a chance to talk to you, to explain everything. i-” katsuki cuts himself off, running a hand through his hair and tugs on the ends, hard.
“it wasn’t meant to go like that, fuck-” he scowls at the ground. your chest tightens at his twisting face, like he can’t decide if he wants to cry or punch something. the wood of the door is rough against your forehead, nails leaving crescents in the flesh of your palm. it still hurts less than hearing his voice, than hearing him sound so… upset.
you’re at fault for this. for ruining your friendship. katsuki treasures his friendships fiercely, for all the resistance he gave in the beginning. and here you are, destroying something so precious to him, all because you couldn’t swallow down your stupid feelings.
katsuki sighs your name, and it pulls at your heartstrings. “i love you.”
your heart stops and your world goes tilting out from under you.
“i love you, and not in the friendly way. i love you in that stupid, mushy, romantic, want to scream your stupid name from the rooftops way. i’m sorry i fucked things up before i could even get the chance to tell you. i’m… i’m sorry.” katsuki’s shoulders slump, head dropping, and it kills something in you to see him so defeated. he begins to walk away, and you can feel him slipping away from you once more, like sand through your fingers. the door swings open and you’re staring at him, no longer through the peephole, but open and vulnerable in the doorway.
“what did you say?” your heart beats wildly in your ear, blood rushing to flood your face.
katsuki spins around, eyes wide.
“did you mean that?” you ask urgently, desperately.
“you heard all of that?” katsuki’s expression wars between horror and something you can’t quite put your finger on.
“do you mean it?” you repeat breathlessly. it takes a long moment, a few shaky breaths that feel like an eternity before katsuki responds; unflinching, cautious, searching.
“every last bit of it.”
your knees wobble, and katsuki rushes forward with a sound of alarm. he catches you, shifting just enough to have both of you half-kneeling on the ground. you feel faint, and yet so utterly aware of katsuki’s arms wrapped around your torso, the way his fingers grip onto your firmly, how his eyes are trained on you, and only you.
“are you okay?” he asks, reaching a hand up to your forehead. “are you feeling unwell? do you need-”
“i’m fine,” you shake your head, trying to dissipate the hazy shock. “i’m more than okay.” your fists tighten from where they’ve twisted into his shirt, crumpling the soft fabric. “you love me.”
katsuki face flushes red, and damn if it wasn’t the best sight you’ve seen in ages. it’s becoming of him, you think. but then again, maybe you were a little biased. he loves you. he loves you. the giggle that bubbles out of you is partly out of disbelief, and partly pure happiness that your feelings were reciprocated. katsuki loves you. then the thought strikes and your stomach drops.
“what about- what about harada?” your stomach heaves itself back up into your throat, lodging itself there as you wait for the other shoe to drop.
“she’s nothing, it was nothing.” he shakes his head brusquely. “it’s you i love. it has only ever been you.”
your heart spills over in tears, threatening to drown you in years worth of pining and hidden affection. but katsuki is here now, keeping you afloat with steady hands. you curl yourself tighter into him, pressing your face into his shoulder. he holds you tight, and you relish the slight hitch in his breathing that comes from being held like he never wants to let you go.
“katsuki,” you pull back slightly. you want to see his face as you say it. “i love you. i love you too. i have loved you since we were stupid teenagers, from the time you got me in detention with aizawa-sensei, to the time we got stuck climbing that stupid tree. i love you.”
a quiet, half-broken noise slips out from him, and he closes his eyes.
“call hado-san now.” he says softly.
“what?” you’re utterly baffled by his request. here you are, confessing your love to him, and he wants you to call nejire? for what?
“call her,” he grits out. “and break up with her so i can kiss you and not have either one of us be branded as a cheater.”
you laugh. you can’t help it. you laugh right into his face and watch it twist in irritation, crimson eyes narrowing at you.
“what’s so funny?” he demands, shaking you a little.
“oh-oh katsuki,” you’re breathless with laughter, pressing your forehead against his. “nejire-senpai and i were never together, we were just fake-dating.”
“fake-dating?” his tone is incredulous and it pulls you back to earth a little, embarrassment seeping in.
“to make you jealous,” you admit, unable to meet his eyes. “it was stupid, i know. and i don’t think it really worked-”
“fake-dating.” katsuki says flatly. “this is the stupidest fucking shit that’s ever existed.”
you bristle in indignance, ready to snap at him-

you pause, wide eyes shooting to meet his. he and harada- huh?
“you mean- we were both- what?” you have never felt more like an idiot right now. “katsuki… why were you fake-dating harada?”
katsuki rolls his eyes even as his blush deepens. “isn’t it obvious? to make you jealous, stupid.”
“we could have been together this whole time? and instead we were torturing ourselves by fake-dating other people to make each other jealous?” your voice ups a pitch, bordering on hysterical.
“it sounds fucking dumb when you put it like that.” he scowls, and wow, you really love this man.
“because it is.” you grin, and before katsuki has a chance to retort, you’re surging forward, pressing your lips against his. he stills under you for a second, enough for self-doubt to creep in. you begin to pull away, and that’s when katsuki kicks into action, wrapping one arm around your waist, pulling you closer, the other hand coming to cup your neck.
you savor this, all sweetness and relief, of longing melting into appreciating. he kisses you with much more gentleness than you’d have expected. all you know is katsuki, the heady scent of his cologne filling your senses, the warmth of him wrapped around you. if it wasn’t for the cursed need to breathe, you would never have parted from him.
“i love you.” you whisper, eyes still closed as your forehead leans against his. his nose brushes against yours, and he repeats it back to you. your world rebuilds into something new in a singular moment, with a simple, three-worded phrase.
“i love you too.”

Homeroom Teachers
I see a lot of people asking what classes Shota teaches besides homeroom or wonders how he gets away with napping in class. And I believe people are looking at this through a Western lens. When I was doing some research about this, I came across someone explaining from first-hand experience that Japanese homeroom teachers are incredibly involved in their student's day-to-day lives. They describe the job as being on call 24/7. One example they gave was about how one of the student's parents were getting a divorce. It was the homeroom teacher who was phone every day talking to the parents and the student about how they were going to navigate the situation.
Shota likely gets away with sleeping in class because he's there for his students any other time of the day that they need him. With U.A. implementing dorming, he is even more hands on with his pupils. The least he can do is try to get some sleep in between hero work and all of the chaos that goes on at U.A. high.
Shota teaches nothing. Homeroom teachers are essentially pseudo parents to their students and they follow them from the beginning of school up to graduation. I've seen people say a few times that Shota isn't a good educator, and while he has some questionable moments, teaching kids directly isn't what he is supposed to be doing. Shota ultimately is a counselor, a guide, an observer, and a mediator.
We see tons of examples of this kind of behavior throughout the series, and here are a few instances that come to mind.
Even if he did decide to stay outside, it's Eraserhead who escorts Shoto back to the Todoroki's home. When Shoto is watching Endeavor's fight on the news, Aizawa ran to Shoto so fast, that he forgot one of his slippers like he's fucking Cinderella.
Shota interferes, mediates and solves conflicts when he needs to. We see this when All-Might comes to Shota when Bakugo and Midoriya get into a fight. Toshinori came to Shota about the ordeal because it's Shota's responsibility as a homeroom teacher.
When Yuga is found to be the traitor, it's Aizawa who ends up talking to him. It's Shota who made the decision not to expel him. Shota goes as far to say that it's his fault because Shota hadn't realized what his student was going through to even reach that point.
Todoroki's & Yaoyorozu's battle/final exam VS. Shota. While this happens earlier in the series, there is a reason why I listed this one last.
During the fight, Shota sees that Momo has lost her confidence and even says to himself that he wishes he could help her with that. But with it being an exam, there were limitations as to what he could do about the situation. Ultimately Shota allows Momo to capture him under the guise that he wanted to see what would happen next. That may be true to an extent, but Shota knew that she needed the win.
Going back to as to why Shota doesn't teach; it can be seen as a conflict of interest. We sort of see this with Momo's exam, but we definitely see this during the joint-training arch when Shota is observing the matches between classes 1-A & 2-A. Shota has taken Hitoshi under his wing, and despite Vlad King and All-Might wanting to stop the fight, Shota insists that the match continues. Aizawa may have been right to say that the students were still determined, and therefore they should keep going. He goes as far to say that he would even stop the fight if need be, but his bias towards Shinso is rather apparent here. He wants his protege to succeed.
Shota is more than just a teacher. He is their emotional support, the person to steer them in the right direction, and most importantly, the one who is always in their corner. At the end of the day, Shota Aizawa is a good man and an even better teacher.

for who, indeed. yūga isn't sure, himself. maybe it's more self-serving, these sort of pitiful talks he's been having with himself. maybe it's best if i'm left here to rot, maybe it's best if i never see UA again, maybe maybe maybe— when yūga smiles next, he can feel the tackiness of all the previous time before where he had had to force it. not that he meant to, but more so because he's practised it for so long. to be normal, to feel... like he belonged. an ordinary boy with an ordinary quirk.
how things have changed indeed, he thinks sardonically, a dark voice in reminiscent of uncle's disastrous whispers coiling inside his head.
nearly a year ago, shinsō hitoshi had emerged in the sports festival, unravelling how his quirk could easily be perceived as villainous, which had not helped when he has used them so tactically to have the upper hand in his battles. aoyama was a victim then, he remembers. a victim turned volunteer, because like monsieur shinsō, he was willing to do anything to gain some... some sort of recognition. some sort of further proof that he's earned his place and power. funny then, aoyama thinks now, that monsieur shinsō is one who came out of the war a hero, and aoyama the traitor.
he presses his hands together, aoyama, unsure and anxious. the war is weeks over, but the prosecution of crimes committed have only just begun. he wonders quietly why aizawa-sensei's prodigy is here. perhaps to further investigate how far deep aoyama's traitorous deeds have gone, or maybe to reconfirm the details. whatever it is, aoyama sits, shoulders hunched. ❛⠀ufufu, i wonder ... ❜ he manages then, light-hearted, a meek shadow of who he'd been. ❛⠀though, monsieur, if i am no longer enrolled in UA, there will be an opening in 2-A. i am more than certain you would be qualified, non ? ❜

What are your favorite BNHA × Naruto fanfic?
I'm going to link the RtN recursive collection just in case you haven't seen it because I adore a lot of the works in there even there's a good chance you've already gone through it, but there's sooo many talented authors who've written some fantastic fics in there that I just have to include it!!
Outside of that collection, here's some of my favorite BNHAxNaruto crossovers listed in order of wordcount! All of them are Kakashi-centric.
