Frostiron AU (Loki: Season 2) | What if Loki time-slips and finds Tony? (Alternative) | Spoilers for Episode 4 & 5!
Part I / Part II / Part III
This is an AU where Loki and Tony were both in a relationship before the whole 2012 events of Avengers (which caused a major schism in their relationship). This Loki never had a chance to apologise before he is brought to the TVA, then told of Tony's inevitable fixed fate in Avengers: End Game.
The events of Season 1 happen, and then Loki is left to deal with his loss. But then at the start of Season 2, Loki starts time-slipping and keeps returning to Tony. Eventually Tony becomes involved in saving the Loom, but they are too late and the Loom explodes, causing all timelines, including Tony's, to reset.
At the end of Episode 5 when the gang is brought back together with the help of OB, they are once more cornered as the universe starts to destroy all the timelines. Loki is forced to see all his friends start to disappear, and then finally Tony - who had played a part in this group of misfits - also disappears before his eyes.
And this is what triggers Loki's evolution, unlocking his ability to control his time slipping.

The bad news is that this year's MTH commission has me in a thrall that leaves no time for my wips for now (sorry, sorry, sorry), the good news is more than 37k whumpy frostiron and counting.
Thank you again, @lailyn, I really enjoy writing no ship quite like frostiron 😊.

A Heart Of Iron Chapter 32
Tumblr media
Chapter below cut
Tony
Tony is floating in a void that has a faint yellow glow, the same one he's been in every time that he's fallen asleep on the planet. He sees vague shapes, some of which he recognizes, some of which he doesn't. Among them, he sees Loki and Odin, their features blurred out but still recognizable. Every time he looks at them, he feels a wave of hatred crash over him, overwhelming all of his other feelings toward them. He hates these people. They are stuck-up, self-absorbed, and they will stop at nothing to get what they want.
Kosto appears, face clear and easily recognizable, and a wave of trust washes over him. This man is good. He knows what to do, and he is trustworthy. He understands what Tony is going through, and he will help Tony get revenge on the people who hurt him. He's been exactly where Tony is, so he knows exactly what Tony needs to do to feel better.
Every time a part of Tony feels happy toward Loki or uneasy about Kosto, a searing pain shoots through his head, wiping the thought from his mind. He soon figures out that those thoughts are bad and that he shouldn't have them, so he tries his hardest not to. Soon, he's all but forgotten any good memories that he's had with Loki, all of the happiness he had felt while around the other man overwritten with distrust and hatred.
All of his memories with Loki start to appear, him and Loki playing Mario Kart, them watching Star Wars and Supernatural together, Loki showing him his true form, him getting out of the wheelchair and Loki helping him regain his balance after the first time he stumbled, and when they kissed first, but instead of feeling happy or content when he sees them, he feels uneasy, knowing that he can't trust Loki and feeling furious at the other man for toying with him.
After all of the memories are finished, the yellow light starts to dim and be replaced by a red one, still hints of yellow at the edges, and a vision starts up.
Kosto is in the Asgardian palace, wearing Asgardian ceremonial robes with his hair slightly shorter and much neater than it was when Tony saw him in the cave, standing in front of the throne. Odin is smiling down at him, and Kosto is smiling, too. Tony suddenly knows that this is the ceremony where Kosto will become a god and eat one of Idun's apples to grant him immortality. Odin usually would never bestow godhood to a svartalf, but after showing immense bravery and strength, both of the body and the mind, Odin is making an exception.
"I now declare you Kosto, god of wrath and personal battles, the patron god of all those who seek revenge," Odin says motioning for Idun to give Kosto one of her apples.
She does, and as Kosto takes a bite of it, he can feel power surging through his body. He smiles, searching the crowd for Loki, who is watching the ceremony in fond amazement. The ceremony finishes, and Kosto goes to find Loki to celebrate. When he does, he walks over to him and moves to kiss him, but Loki redirects the kiss into a hug.
"I'm sorry," Loki whispers regretfully. "I can't risk Odin seeing, not right now. He could remove both of our godhoods and my claim to the throne."
Kosto's face falls, all of the joy sucked out of the moment. This is supposed to be the best day of his life, and he can't even kiss his boyfriend.
"Yeah. I get it," he says quietly, and Loki squeezes him tighter.
"I love you. You do know that, right?" Loki says, and Kosto puts on a fake smile. He's gotten pretty used to this lately, pretending to be okay with Loki not wanting to tell Odin about them.
"Yeah," Kosto says, but in his head he's screaming "No! You don't! If you loved me, you'd actually consider the fact that I don't want to hide and you would stop this stupid charade!"
"I love you too."
After that, Kosto goes up to his room and cries, the day ruined.
Tony woke up, taking in his surroundings. He was still in the cave, and Kosto was working on the contraption they were making out of the suit that Tony was wearing when he fell. It was supposed to help them harness the power of Tony's pendant using the arc reactor to power the contraption and Tony's connection to it to direct it. At the moment, though, it was just a haphazard pile of wires with the arc reactor in the center, but, slowly but surely, they were making progress.
"You're up!" Kosto said hearing Tony get up off of the path of the ground that they had made into a 'bed'. Tony was the only one who used it, though. Kosto didn't need to sleep, being a svartalf, which Tony knew from his Norse mythology lessons meant that he was essentially a dark elf.
Tony was walking over to the workbench they had made out of a few boulders when a sandstorm started to blow into the cave. Kosto managed to get behind the shelter that he had made, but Tony was too slow and got caught in the sand. Noticing that Tony wasn't there, Kosto ran out to him and dragged him behind the shelter, saving Tony from being buried. Once he got to safety, Tony started to cough out the sand that had gotten down his throat, feeling like he was suffocating.
Kosto went over to the filtration system they had made out of part of Tony's suit and got him some water to help him clear his throat, and, when he gave it to him, Tony practically inhaled it, eager for relief from the pain that the sand was causing. When Tony stopped coughing, they both slumped back against the shelter, Tony filled with a renewed sense of hatred toward Loki. After all, if Loki had been quicker, if he had actually been fighting who he was supposed to, then Tony wouldn't be here, suffocating on sand and sleeping on a bed of rocks. Once he got off this wasteland, Tony was going to get his revenge.

Loki Ships
All right, I think it’s time to jump into the inevitable, since ships can make or break whether or not some people care what I have to say, and I get it. I considered including them in my pinned post, but that was already way too long.
I ship Loki with a lot of people. The first time I heard the term fandom bicycle, a friend was using it to refer to Loki, and I took it to heart (and probably also a challenge). As I said in my pinned post, though, I mostly ship Loki with guys, since his canon women love interests are often kind of shitty to him. This doesn’t deter me from the potential of shipping him with women (I acknowledge and celebrate that he’s bi/pan, after all) but the women that he’s around tend to be assholes to him, so the men kind of have to pick up the slack. (Is the assholery deserved? Yeah, sometimes. But I also like the idea of people being soft with him. And I think he deserves that sometimes, too.)
So I’m going to explain a little bit about the ship in general, why I ship it personally, and the canon likelihood of it, whether or not it’s likely to become canon in comics or the MCU or both or neither. Also spoilers for Where Mischief Lies, The Defenders (1983), The Defenders (2021), and Defenders: Beyond.
Thorki: Might as well start with my most divisive ship, though if you read my Loki playlist post, you’ll already know I ship this. I believe this is the first person I came to ship with Loki. This is obviously Thor and Loki, and I get it. I do. I am not here to defend my questionable taste at all. I am not here to make the flimsy arguments people sometimes make for this ship, like that he’s adopted so “they aren’t really siblings, so it’s not really incest.” I think that’s damn rude to people who are adopted and have adoptive siblings. Frankly, these are fictional characters who are fictionally siblings and I know the difference between fiction and reality. Am I supportive of IRL incest? Not particularly, no. But Loki and Thor are not real (and thank God for that; Loki would annoy the hell out of me). So I’m not here to defend it. I just think that they have a lot of chemistry, and a lot of romantic and sexual tension. Especially in Thor: Ragnarok. Like towards the end, they have this whole conversation about how Loki belongs on Sakaar, how he can flourish there and rule over Sakaar and it would be the ideal place for him. And both of them (at least verbally) agree that this is the case. And then Thor leaves him basically seizing from electric shock on the floor of a hangar. And then the next time we see Loki, he has come back to Asgard anyway, to help Thor save the people. And if that’s not love (familial, romantic, whatever), I don’t know what is.
          Canon Likelihood…….Unlikely.
Not even possible, it’s never going to happen. In the comics, not a chance. In the MCU, not a chance. Marvel’s never going to make incest happen, especially not with Disney as their parent company. And frankly, I don’t want them to. I don’t trust them to do this right or be sensitive about it. They will never not be able to spin it as some shocking joke no matter how serious they pretend to be about it, if they ever were to do it. And with the level of backlash that would happen because of it, it wouldn’t be worth it. So I’m just content to read and write fanfic and look at fanart. I don’t need it to be canon and it’s never going to be canon and that’s okay. Sometimes that’s okay.
Theoki: Theo Bell (from Loki: Where Mischief Lies) and Loki. Theo Bell (as I’ve said previously) is gay, very snarky and is a good match personality-wise for Loki in the novel, he walks with a cane as a result of becoming disabled due to a homophobic attack, and he works essentially for Odin on Midgard (but Odin really only calls on him and his coworkers when he really needs something, like when he needs something for his younger son to do when he exiles him to Earth). This is speed-run Enemies-to-Lovers. They don’t like each other at first, mostly because Loki does not want to be there. And Theo’s basically like ‘You don’t want to be here, got it. You’re here, though, so let’s deal with this.’ And then pretty quickly Loki’s like, ‘Oh shit. He’s hot…Oh shit. He’s smart… Oh shit. Do I like him?….Oh shit. His freckles are like stars.’ (He thinks the last sentence almost exactly, it’s wild.) So I think it’s very cute and I don’t think they got enough time together.
Canon likelihood…….Depends on your definition of canon.
Did they kiss? Spoiler alert: Yes. Are they together? Well, uh, about that… So this book is supposed to serve as a prequel to the events in the MCU. Do you see Theo anywhere in the MCU? There’s your answer. (Which sounds like I’m implying something different, so you should still read this book, because you don’t know what’s going to happen.) So at this point, at this time, is it likely that this relationship is going to come back and be 100% canon? No. Not likely. But in my opinion, how I define canon, has this ship been canonized? I generally define canon as requited affection that’s acted upon, so Yes, this was a canon ship to me. (Still hoping my unlikely Loki theories are true, though, so this ship can come back and be present tense canon.) I wish this could be an established relationship right now, but given the circumstances of the events of the story and the purpose the story is supposed to serve in the MCU, it’s not possible.
Lokius: Loki and Mobius, from the tv series. I was resistant to this for a little while. Mostly I was finding Owen Wilson in the MCU in general and interacting with Loki hard to believe. It was weird to me and I could not unsee Owen Wilson for a chunk of the show, and that’s partially what was preventing me from shipping it. But the tie fixing scene, while it wasn’t what got me to ship it, it did make me go Oh, fuck. This is going to end with me shipping this. And then I continued to resist it for a few episodes, and then it hit me, and now I’ve been bitten by the Lokius bug. I don’t remember precisely what was the turning point for me, but it was late. I think it was probably “You could be whoever, whatever you want to be. Even someone good.” I think they’re perfect together. I think it’s an interesting dynamic, because Mobius knows him so well. But at the beginning, he knows Loki from this clinical standpoint. He knows how Loki’s story is supposed to go and his personality, from studying versions of him, but he doesn’t know him. And then spending the show getting to know Loki himself. I think they neglected somewhat to show this on a nuanced level in the show itself, but the working relationship and budding friendship between Loki and Mobius is what ultimately gets Mobius to realize that the TVA is kind of crap and needs to be shut down because the TVA doesn’t know everything. Because he gets to know Loki as a person, that he’s not just a story or the predetermined events that have been laid out in the timeline by some higher power, just because that’s how Kang has decided that’s how he wants Loki’s life to go (or something to that effect). I think there’s something inherently interesting about taking how you understand someone from a general, macro level and thinking you know everything about that person, and then getting to know someone on a more personal and intimate basis. At the risk of perpetuating a sort of racist rewrite of historical events, it’s kind of reminiscent of Disney’s Pocahontas in a way. Where you have these assumptions about a person or group of people based on what you’ve been told by your superiors, but by getting to know a particular individual in that group, you change your preconceived notions about that person. And then taking it a step further into a romantic level.
          Canon likelihood…….Likely
I think they fucked up in season one. And I think they know they fucked up. I’m sorry if people ship the other thing (I’m trying not to type the ship name so it doesn’t come up in searches and people think I tagged my hate.), this is not the place for you. I think they fucked up where they were like “Look, we’re so progressive! Here’s two bisexual characters.” And then they were like “No homo. Here’s some selfcest instead.” And obviously Loki can have a girlfriend and I’d be fine with that, but making that woman love interest a variant, essentially just an alternate version of him? That feels like they only let Loki say “A bit of both,” so they could pat themselves on the back. They didn’t want to act on that. But the only woman who makes any sense to pair him with, with whom he has the most interaction with in the series…is himself. But they went with that anyway.
So the level of likelihood is either one, they realized they fucked up and now they’re going to fix it. Or two, (and I don’t think they have enough foresight for this) they knew they fucked up before they even aired it, and are like “This is the journey that Loki is on. He will eventually break away from himself, and fall in love with somebody who is not himself.” Or three, not understand what bisexuality is and be like “We need equal! He kissed a girl and now he’s gotta kiss a guy!” [Which implies there are only two genders, but they don’t even know what genderfluidity is, so I’m not confident they have any understanding of the diversity of gender identity either.] So I think it’s likely (especially the last option, unfortunately, given their track record with representation). I’m not sure theyre going to do it well, but I think it’s possible. I think they’ve set it up well for this to be canon. I think there’s some romcom story beats that are already present in season one, despite their decision to go with a different ship. It’s just a matter of how much they’re willing to break out of this mold of heteronormativity.
Frostiron: Tony Stark and Loki. I like this because I am partial to Enemies to Lovers tropes. I think the fandom has done a really good job of taking like two minutes of onscreen interaction and making an entire ship out of it. I think they have a lot of things in common, which can help them bond. They both have daddy issues, they’re both kind of spoiled, and a little self-centered, which can cause some conflict that will eventually be resolved. And they both have quite a bit of trauma that’s ultimately caused by the same big purple asshole, so that can also bring them closer together. I have a lot of feelings about them, which has caused me to write a six-part series about them and their relationship and how they can relate to each other. (I’ve attempted a few times to write a seventh part, so we’ll see if that ever sees the light of day, but they have certainly not relinquished their hold on me.)
          Canon Likelihood…….Not likely.
Absolutely not likely, not a chance. Comics, no. MCU, no. In the MCU they had like a two-minute interaction and that was it. It was cute, they were snarking at each other, Tony offered him a drink, but that was about it. In the comics, they have a little bit more interactions but it’s still very limited. The most I know about their interactions in the comics that are not antagonistic comes from (I believe) The God Who Fell to Earth, and there’s still not a whole lot. There is some explicit dialogue of Tony respecting Loki’s pronouns, so that’s chill. Tony knows that Loki’s genderfluid, so I like that. But again, that’s about it. Ultimately, the places were Tony and Loki have the most interaction are in Avengers Academy, the mobile game, and I don’t believe there are romance options for anybody in that game (I didn’t play that game for very long, so I don’t remember much; there was too much multitasking and it was stressing me out). And in the animated tv show Avengers Assemble, and even there it was only like an episode or two. (And in later seasons, Tony isn’t even in much of the show, let alone Loki.) So I don’t think it’s likely we’ll ever see a canon frostiron, unless we get like an episode (or issue) of What If that’s like, “What If…Tony Stark was gay” or something, but that’s both unlikely and I can think of several characters more likely to be Tony’s What If boyfriend before Loki.
Cloudki: This is a ship name I made up on the spot, because no one else knows who this character is. (And that hurts me, deeply.) Cloud has a fraught history in the comics, and ultimately, it’s not much of a history at all, they’re in maybe three stories since their debut in 1983. Cloud is basically the personification of a cloud nebula (hence why they’re called Cloud), and they’re genderfluid! Primarily because, when they made their debut in the eighties, they crash landed to earth and then their essence combined with the dying souls of this straight couple whose car they crashed into. And the essence of the star lost their memory and decided to take on the couple’s likeness and sort of absorb their souls so they could survive on earth. And the comic, while weirdly progressive for the time, was still published in the eighties. So you have to get past the Comics Code Authority or whatever it’s called (which is basically censoring anything it considers remotely queer), and also it’s the eighties and the author was cis and (I’m pretty sure) straight. And I’ve read articles that said he had a friend who was a transwoman, so he was able to get some help maybe (if he asked her). But at the same time, if she’s a transwoman she’s not genderfluid, so it’s not exactly the same thing. So while it’s done surprisingly more sensitively than expected, there is still a lot of transphobia directed at this sweet summer child. And they don’t know any better so they kind of adjust to this shit, so it’s rough.
So that’s Cloud’s debut. It sucks, and we don’t talk about it. But Cloud comes back a few decades later in The Defenders (this is a new run; they also debuted in The Defenders). When last we left them, Cloud had figured out they were a nebula, and people were being kinda shitty to them on earth, so they were like Fuck this, I’m supposed to be a star, good-bye. And so for the last few decades they’ve been in space as their true self. So they get summoned by Dr. Strange to help the Defenders solve a mystery through the cosmos. (Cosmos as in I don’t get this part. So in the comics, the cosmos are like eras of existence in the universe. I think most events take place in like the twelfth or thirteenth cosmos. The Defenders travel backwards through the cosmos through this story.) In the middle of one of the battles, they’re like “Hey, by the way, I would like to go by they/them pronouns.” (Because up until this point they’ve been going by she/her pronouns.) And everyone else is like “Yeah, sure.” And then no one messes up for the rest of the book. Because Al Ewing is the best. And then like halfway through the book, they get to one of the cosmos where the emphasis is like beauty and imagination and color or something. And Cloud is like “I’m going to stay here. This is a good place for me.” And they transform their body into one that they choose, one that is no longer resembling the guy or the girl whose souls they absorbed. And Cloud’s living their best life in this cosmos. And that’s the last we see of Cloud in this book. (And I almost stopped reading the book at this point, because I read Defenders: Beyond first because Loki’s in it, met Cloud, and then read The Defenders, which comes first, just for Cloud because Loki isn’t in this one.)
Then in Defenders: Beyond, Dr. Strange has to call the Defenders together again. But he only calls a few of the original Defenders and the rest are new people. And one of the people he calls is Loki. And this is right where Loki: Agent of Asgard ended. (And thank God for that, because whoever took over for Loki between AoA and DB fucked him up. I don’t know who that was or what that run was or if it was just Thor, because I never read it, but I’m upset by that author and the new Loki that trashed all of his character development. Because Al Ewing did some great things. Okay moving on.) Frankly, I don’t know what the fuck is going on in this book. We’re still traveling through the cosmos, but I’m very confused. I only read this for Loki and then I met Cloud and read Defenders. So they’re going through the cosmos and they get rescued (Loki especially) by the members of the imagination cosmos, and one of the members of the imagination cosmos is still Cloud. This is similar to MCU Frostiron, because Cloud and Loki have a very important conversation towards the end, but that’s about the extent of their interaction.
My reason for shipping these two (since this post is long as fuck, as usual), because I know nothing about Cloud and Cloud is known by nobody but I would die for Cloud I love them so much, is that they’re both genderfluid. And I think gf4gf is a great pairing honestly (I’m not super interested in a relationship myself anymore, but I think the only partner I’d want at this point would also be genderfluid, so I’m projecting a tad). And I think they would be great for each other and I love it. I think Cloud could really help the present Loki come back to himself and deal with these memories that AoA Loki wiped from him so that he could be this stupid Loki that doesn’t have any of the character development, that at the eleventh hour of this book (I think) regained all his memories and now has to deal with it all and defend the cosmos. And also, where the hell is Verity? Ya know? Like, does he remember Verity? How much did he forget? So I think Cloud would be a good help to rehabilitate him and then they fall in love.
Canon likelihood…….Not completely unlikely, things have to happen.
I’m not gonna straight up say unlikely, because things happen in comics all the time. And comics go back and fold in on themselves and change things all the time. So I’m gonna say probably not likely, but maybe. Here are the things that are gonna have to happen in order for this to take place: One, Cloud needs to come back. I think the last time they showed up was in Defenders: Beyond, and that came out last year. Preferably, Al Ewing needs to write Cloud, because Al Ewing is the best and I love him. Two, Loki from Agent of Asgard needs to come back. Loki as it is needs to regain his memories and become the perfect version of himself again. Preferably written by Al Ewing, because Al Ewing is the best and I love him. Three, Cloud and Loki need to be in the same comic at some point. They’re two completely different characters, drawn together by the ties of fate and tarot cards that, for some reason, Dr. Strange has. And also the cosmos (because he didn’t draw Cloud’s tarot in Defenders: Beyond). Therefore, it’s difficult to get them back together, because Cloud isn’t even in this cosmos right now, let alone on the planet, and Loki doesn’t even remember meeting them. Four, Cloud has to have some romantic capabilities. I don’t know what their romantic capabilities are. In their original run, they tried to fall in love with Moondragon, and then also with some other guy (I don’t remember his name). That dude was transphobic as fuck. Moondragon, the second she found out Cloud was genderfluid, became transphobic as fuck, because it was the eighties, and neither of these characters were gay yet. So did that turn Cloud off to romance forever? That was also before Cloud realized they were a cloud nebula; did Cloud realizing that they are technically supposed to be an insentient celestial being turn Cloud off to romance forever? I don’t know. Five, even if Cloud has some capacity of romantic inclination, Cloud and Loki have to be attracted to each other. They have the tiniest of interactions ever, so who’s to say? Certainly not me, except in my fanfictions, which I haven’t written yet, because I don’t know enough about Cloud. So possibly, but unlikely. And that makes me sad.
This is the only ship, besides Lokius, where if it doesn’t become canon, I’m going to be a Victorian heroine wasting away on my fainting couch, because I’m very disappointed.

Some Frost iron fics
This is a Red, white and royal blue AU with Tony and Loki. Well written and will make you fall in love with them as you read.
Cutest thing ever, as Tony stark gives up iron man to look after his child. Loki somehow ends up getting adopted into the family.
This one is so well written. The author's ability to make them both 'flyte' is mindblowing. Both of them are shown as the genius they are.
An AU where loki reacts differently to finding out he is a frost gaint. And that makes all the difference.

Note
What if Tony yelled out in front of everyone “wait I thought we were together!!” and Loki’s like “No?! You’re just keeping an eye on me?”
So all the Avengers get involved in the discussion. They’re all surprisingly really chill with Tony dating the guy who tried to kill them. Only Steve pipes up “is that a great idea?” but is silenced when Tony says “You also made a guy who tried to kill us your poor little meow meow. This is the same thing”
Natasha’s the one to be like yeah Loki, you two are dating, how did you miss that
Loki and Bucky, the Avengers ex villains turned poor little meow meows
but no fr, like... It'd be funny if loki is the only one who didn't notice. everyone else is like "loki u and Tony r... literally boyfriends" and he is like "nuh uh"
Steve complains but he has literallt no room to talk 😭

Ship It/Don't Ship It Ask Game
Tony/Loki
Loki/Steve
From this Ask game!
Hmm, I wish there was a set of questions for 'heavily ambivalent about it' because I feel that way about Tony/Loki? It's odd because Loki was my first favorite character.
TONY/LOKI: Don’t Ship It
Why don’t you ship it? I want Tony to be the most powerful one in the relationship, or at the very least, I want them to be equals!
What would have made you like it? I don't know if there's a way, maybe if it were framed as a forbidden romance of some sort, that's the key to my damned heart, haha
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it? There are definitely dynamics between the two of them that make it interesting-- I think Tony would have to be seduced, which might be fun if I didn't hate the idea of him at a power disadvantage!
We're in bad luck bears mode because...
STEVE/LOKI: Don’t Ship It
Why don’t you ship it? The moral disadvantage is just too much to overcome here, I think. I dislike forcing either of these characters to fundamentally change themselves enough to make it work
What would have made you like it? THIS one has the 'forbidden romance' potential to hook me, though. I could see a path where Loki is basically forced to learn how to value truthtelling and morals to the point where he could make Steve happy? But then, would he REALLY still be Loki? Perhaps a short-lived situation where they appreciate each other and something happens to end it un-tragically.
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it? To be honest I'd never considered this pair before, so hmm. I think there's a great 'falling in love with someone you absolutely cannot have' aspect to this pairing, I just don't know if it could ever end happily for either of them! But that's something.

A Heart Of Iron Chapter 4

Chapter below break
LOKI
"You're a Jotun?" he asked in awe.
"Yes. I get it if you don't want to be associated with me anymore. I can just change back and we can pretend like this never- Wait, how do you know what a Jotun is?" Loki asked confusedly.
"First of all, it doesn't really matter to me if you're a Jotun or not. And second of all, we have something called Norse Mythology here, and from what I can tell, it basically describes Asgardians, Jotuns, the Nine Realms, and such. My father taught me about it," Tony explained.
“That proud, undeserving, drunk asshole!" Loki swore, and then said in English, "Thor used to love to hang out with the vikings, and even taught them our language. Apparently someone wrote it down."
Tony started laughing hysterically.
"What's wrong?" Loki said, confused.
“He really is!" Tony wheezed out.
“You understand Norrœna?" Loki responded, amazed.
“I learned from my dad," Tony shrugged.
"I'm sorry to interrupt, but Mr. Rogers is requesting you on the dining floor, and he says that Loki is welcome to join you due to his actions earlier not being under his control," Jarvis informed them.
"Alright!" Tony said.
"Also, due to the conversation earlier, I have prepared a floor for you to live in. When you wish to go there, let me know, and I will take you there," Jarvis said to Loki, who thanked him.
As they were walking, Loki and Tony talked in Norrœna, and found out along the way that Jarvis didn't speak it. They decided to keep it that way, so that they could have private conversations. While Jarvis wasn't happy about it, he trusted Tony, so he allowed it.
“I heard that Thor is off-world, so what do you think about confusing the others?" Tony said to Loki
Loki was still trying to process what had just happened. He had gone from alone and misunderstood to potentially having a new friend who spoke Norrœna and going to eat dinner with the Avengers in less than 45 minutes.
When he realized what Tony had just said, he replied, “That would be hilarious!"
They got in the elevator, and 30 seconds later, they were at the dining hall, where Rhodey, Pepper, Clint, Steve, Natasha, and Bruce were sitting at a dining table with bowls of spaghetti in front of them.
“Ready?" Tony asked Loki.
“Very!" Loki replied, a wide grin on his face.
"Hey guys!" Steve called, waving them over.
"Hey Capsicle!" Tony called back.
“Capsicle?" Loki asked quizzically
“He was frozen in ice for 70 years, so he's a Capsicle!" Tony explained.
"Um... What's going on?" Steve asked confused.
"Nat, can you translate?" Clint asked Natasha.
"No! This seems to be a Nordic language based on some of the words, but I haven't heard any like this," she said frustratedly.
"What, finally found something I'm better than you at?" Tony mocked, and Loki bit his cheek to hide a smile.
"Don't let it get to your head, Tony," she said jokingly.
"Too late!" Clint chimed in.
"Is it even possible for his ego to get bigger?" Steve said mockingly.
"I don't think so!" Bruce agreed.
“Save me!" Tony moaned to Loki.
"Nope! You got yourself into this, you get yourself out," Loki said, smirking.
“This is so unfair! You're doing it too!" Tony protested.
Loki laughed and then went to sit down at the table with Tony following him.
"Anyways," Steve said with a pointed glare at Tony and Loki, "What are we going to do about the Chitauri invasion? Whoever was behind it had to have some reason for choosing Earth."
The smile instantly fell off of Loki's face. Should he tell them and risk mass panic when there's nothing that any of them could do? Loki knew what the "right" thing to do was, but he just wanted more time with Tony, and if the others found out about him, they would spend the rest of the time they had panicking instead of making the most of the time left.
“Hey. Are you okay?" Tony whispered to Loki.
“I might know who it is..." Loki whispered back.
“Okay... Who?" Tony asked hesitantly.
“Please don’t tell the others. I don’t want to scare them," Loki said nervously.
“Okay, now you’re scaring me," Tony joked.
Realizing his mistake, Loki quickly explained the situation.
“His name is Thanos. He’s trying to solve overpopulation by killing half of all life. He’s been traveling from planet to planet, but he’s trying to gather all of the Infinity Stones to do it all at once. There are 3 on Earth now, and if he gets them, he’ll be unstoppable," he said hurriedly.
“Holy shit. Okay, now I see why you didn’t want the others to know. We'll talk about this later, but now, we should focus on dinner," Tony said exasperatedly.
“Yeah," Loki agreed.
They finished eating, ignoring the weird looks they got, and went up to Tony's lab.

Frostiron AU (Loki: Season 2) | What if Loki time-slips to a point in time when Tony is still alive?
Part I / Part II / Part III
This is an AU where Loki and Tony were both in a relationship before the whole 2012 events of Avengers (which caused a major schism in their relationship). This Loki never had a chance to apologise before he is brought to the TVA, then told of Tony's inevitable fixed fate in Avengers: End Game.
Mini fic below!
BEFORE
"Tony Stark sacrificed his life--," Mobius spoke, and the bearded man continued to speak about Tony's achievements and inevitable fate, but all Loki could hear were the last words he had uttered to Tony out of pure spite on the open balcony of Stark Tower.
"I never loved you, Stark. You were merely a tool to help me ascend to my true throne!"
It was all a lie, and yet that had been the single most effective lie he had ever said to Stark. The look of anguish that had contorted Tony's features had already been hard to watch, but the overlap of pain that had later dimmed the usual glimmer in Tony's eyes had been what left Loki feeling utterly broken and guilty inside. And yet, in spite of all that agony, Loki had gone along with the Chitauri's plans, their influence on him too strong to resist as he destroyed everything in his path and hurt the one person he held dear.
Stark... Loki thought as he gazed at the TVA recording room wall with an overwhelming sense of numbness, the cold seeping through his blood and within his bones.
I never got a chance to say goodbye.
And he never would, because the TVA had stolen that chance from him.
NOW
Ripped, torn, shredded and rebuilt in a few seconds was not an ordinary sensation one felt in a lifetime, and having experienced this more than once, Loki had assumed he was going to travel back and forth from the past to the present within the boundaries of the TVA. He had braced himself for the next one when he felt a particularly large set of invisible claws suddenly pierce his back, ensnaring him once more within its clutches as his feet slipped, his back tugged so forcefully that his head also snapped back, his body being swung and then pulled like a ragdoll. A small cry barely left his lips before his body was pushed right back onto solid ground, his impeccable balance the only thing keeping him from toppling over outright.
Loki barely had a chance to look around his surroundings and get his bearings before he heard a voice.
"Loki?"
Tony's voice echoed, and Loki's whole body froze on the spot as the dizziness subsided somewhat.
Loki tried to speak, but he couldn't as he found himself staring at Tony, utter shock stealing any words or thoughts that Loki had. He was alive. Tony Stark... was alive!
And just as quickly as his body was recovering from the pull of the time slip, Loki felt the awful tug grabbing ahold of his neck, an invisible assailant unwilling to let him go. Panic raced through his blood as he realized he was being pulled back, and taken away again. But damn if he was going to leave without saying anything.
"Stark, I'm sorry for everythi-!"
That was all Loki could manage before his voice crackled away like a broken speaker, a single tear slipping and then vaporizing into the air as his physical atoms were ripped and pulled in all directions.

A Heart Of Iron Chapter 31
Tumblr media
Chapter below cut
Loki
In the 3 months without Tony, Loki had left his room 5 times. Once to go to Valhalla to try and get him back, once to try and interact with the others (that one went so badly that he just slept through the next few days), and 3 times to get more beer. The floor was littered with all of the empty beer cans and he was pretty sure that he looked like shit, but he didn't care. After all, Tony was gone, so why should he?
Steve kept knocking at his door, but Loki ignored him. During the first few days, the others kept blowing up his phone with texts and calls, but when it died, he "forgot" to charge it. After 1 month, Steve had thought he had died and barged in to check on him, finding Loki drunk-talking to an illusion of Tony, either not noticing or not caring that Steve had just entered the room. Steve had quietly backed out, and no one had entered the room since then.
Loki spent most of those months drunk, and, during some of his more sober moments, Loki had JARVIS give him updates on the other Avengers so that he could write letters to Tony. In doing this, he learned that Bucky had woken up, not remembering anything after he fell off of the train, his brain still stuck in 1945. Steve had to tell him that his sister Becca had died of old age 4 years ago. Bucky's reaction had sent Loki into another spiral, the reminder of the fact that Tony was gone too much to bear. The next thing he remembered, he was waking up in another hospital bed, Natasha standing over him, a worried look on her face.
"Loki, what the fuck? I know you know that drinking yourself to death isn't helping you at all, so why the fuck are you doing it? I mean, you do know that-" Natasha lectured, and Loki cut her off.
"That Tony wouldn't have wanted this? Yeah, well, Tony's gone, so he doesn't really get a say," Loki said bitterly. "And who are you to tell me what to do with my life? Last I checked we weren't friends, and the only reason that we even kept talking to each other was Tony, and he's not here anymore, so I don't really get why you care."
"I care about you because I know what you're going through. I've been brainwashed into doing horrible things against my will, I've lost everyone I've ever cared about, and I've-" Natasha said softly, and Loki got even more upset.
"Have you watched the only two people you've ever loved go in front of you in the exact same way and not been able to do anything about it? Have you had some mystical force try to warn you about it but you ignored it and made the one you loved leave? Have you had someone trust you with their life and fail them? Because I have," Loki said forcefully, and Natasha backed away.
"I didn't know. I'm sorr-'' Natasha started before realizing something. "Wait. You knew what was going to happen to Tony? Why didn't you tell anyone?"
"I thought it was just a vision of an alternate universe. I didn't know that it could come true here too," Loki explained defensively. "I was going into Tony's mind to heal him after the vision that almost killed him, and the stone showed me an alternate universe where we were soulmates and Thanos stabbed him and threw him off of the bridge. I didn't think it was important because it was pretty damn obvious that it wasn't this universe, because me and Tony aren't soulmates here."
Natasha stepped back slightly, and Loki realized belatedly that that came out a little more forceful than he meant it to. Oh, well. She was already going to be pissed at him for letting Tony leave, so what's one more reason to hate him?
"Oh," she said quietly, and then her face melted into a look of concern. "You do know that it's not your fault, right? Maybe you should've told someone about the vision, but, as you said, it didn't seem important. It's not your fault that you didn't know."
"No. Every other fucking vision had a purpose, and this one was an entire life story! I should've known, and I should've fucking told someone!" Loki said, volume building until he was practically yelling. He couldn't see how someone could honestly think that Tony being gone wasn't his fault, because, honestly, he always manages to either hurt the ones he loves or get them to leave forever. "You don't understand. There is no fucking way you could ever understand. If all you're going to do here is tell me lies to try to make me feel better, it's not working, so you can go."
Natasha looked at him with a look that he knew meant that she felt bad for him, and honestly, that just made him feel worse. He didn't need pity, or false reassurances, or to "move on". He just needed Tony.

Hi! This is not to pressure you at all (and feel free to ignore this if you like), but are you continuing your reparations verse? It’s been kinda quiet here, but I read reparations this summer and I just wanted to say I would read the heck out of permutations if you ever wrote more, and if you don’t I’m so grateful for reparations! I’ve reread it so many times lol (and I’m off to read it again)
Oh goodness, I don't know when this was sent but I'm so glad you enjoyed the story!
Reparations is never over, not really. Many authors have that one story that they come back to forever and ever even though they could have ended it at any point. That's what Rep is for me.
So why am I not writing it? Good question.
(Humor me while I get reflective and self-important for a minute.)
Reparations, like any story, was a product of the time that it occupied in my life. I wrote it as therapy after a really turbulent period that robbed me of any kind of joy or excitement for the future.
I wrote it as therapy, and the act of writing it helped me get better, but as I got better I found that I didn't relate to the story the same way anymore. It stopped being a diary and started to become a photo album.
From the beginning, Reparations was a story about imagining a better future for myself through Tony and Loki. Therefore, I want Permutations to be the realization of that future. I want it to be a reflection of a couple post-crisis who aren't perfect but are a lot closer to it. A couple who are happy and going on with their lives.
I couldn't have written that story in 2019. I was still too close to the pain. The early chapters are some of the best I've ever written, but they're raw. They're super fucking grim, and I really wanted that entry in the series to feel lighter.
I wanted to show the darkness that will always be inside Loki and Tony, but to also show them choosing to focus on the light in spite of that, and I just could not do that yet, on a personal level. I was reopening old wounds instead of tattooing over them.
So I put it aside and dedicated myself to finishing up other stories in the meantime. That turned out to be super draining, and then 2020 happened.
It took a long time for me to feel the urge to write again, and I think that's because I was processing 2020. I was one of those white people for whom that year was an overdue wake up call, and I had a lot of things to come to terms with.
I think I'm being called by Final Fantasy VII now (despite it being an absolutely ancient fandom that never interested me before) because it's a world and a band of characters that speak strongly to the themes and questions I've been grappling with:
What is morality under capitalism?
How much responsibility do we place on individuals when individual behavior is so influenced by society?
Do we accept violence as a tactic for change, and if we do then where do we draw the line?
Can you remake the world without destroying it?
These are all central themes to that game series, and so it's natural for me to want to write in that universe at the moment.
Long term, I think that I will return to Permutations, but it won't be in the next six months. Emotionally, I am finally healed enough to make that story what I always wanted it to be, and I have the desire to do so. However, my soul is also carrying a heavy weight from the last two years that hurts in a totally different way, and I need to remove that tumor first.
I'm sorry I can't just say an enthusiastic, "Yes! Absolutely! I'm typing it up right now," because I definitely wish I could. But the truth is that the time isn't right for me, and I don't when it will be.
Thank you so much for making space for Reparations in your heart. It gives my life so much meaning to know that I've created something people care about.
I'll never abandon it permanently, but that does mean that there will be long periods of waiting. Thank you so much for being patient, and I hope you're doing as well as you possibly can be.
Best,
Den
