Immortal Thor #9 Reactions
Tumblr media
Had a bit more trouble finding this one, but it's here! (This issue was very popular in my area; my comic book store sold out of it the day it came out, and I couldn't get to the store until Friday.)
Spoilers as usual for Immortal Thor #9 (and probably previous issues)
Tumblr media
I have this book now! I'm so excited to start it!
*"Immigrant Song" plays in the background*
No. Go away, Amora!
You keep my boi's name out of your mouth, Amora!
She has kids?!
Agger shut up about this "content." Maybe he's Musk instead of Iger. Or both.
"Free websites"?! Agger is better about the internet than Marvel
I really am thinking about how to write a post-issue poem this time, even though my boy wasn't in this one again (presumably. I have my theories about that).

Reacting to Contemporary Comics (Without Context) 13/?
Tumblr media
I've been working on this for six weeks. I'm sorry, homework and TWO ISSUES OF IMMORTAL THOR sidetracked me. Getting this post hammered out before the next issue of Immortal Thor comes out tomorrow.
I don't know what the fuck this is. I think it might be an anthology? We're joined by modern Thor genius writer, Jason Aaron, creator of the story with The Best Panel Ever in Comic History; and Walter Simonson, of nude!Loki bait fame, and several authors whom I don't recognize.
Spoilers for The Mighty Thor #700 (2017) and likely others.
This is feeling vaguely IT 5-ish
Thori! My good boy!
Thor wants to murder Yggdrasil. I love Thori.
Am I crying about mundane panels again? Possibly. In my defense I lost my dog recently.
Fuck I forgot he lost his arm!
Thori and the goat (idk which one it is) just following him is so great
"Man?" You recruited just random dudes, Malekith? What's Joe from Accounting gonna do? Did Doom have the afternoon off and owed you a favor?
Jane vs She-Hulk?! Why is She-Hulk so hot in this? Did this come out before Ragnarok? It must have, right? Ragnarok came out October 2017. Wait, no, it says December 2017.
WHOA, doc/nurse/whoever you are! HIPAA! I know Jane is technically a doctor, but she's here as a patient right now. Don't give her Jennifer's entire backstory.
Volstagg was Thor once?!
LOKI!!!
Loki why are you dressed like that? Where is your sense of style, you queer little twink?
THOR YOU DID NOT NAME THESE NEW HUMANS JANE AND STEVE WTF
There's my boi! Took you fucking long enough, dude
Yeah, because he's the God of Stories! Give him a fucking minute to try before you erase everything he's written! God.
Also can we stop drawing him so gross?!
Okay but I might change the name of my Loki playlist from Disaster Spouse to Little Prince of Jackasses lol
Why is Throg's name Simon Walterson... one of the prolific Thor writers is Walter Simonson... this is a multi-level spoof [I'm thinking he probably created the character, actually, but I'm not in the mood to fact check that atm]
Okay, when is Loki's thread of the narrative? Because that was... still in character, but he seems too cold about it for when I thought this was. Ugh, this is what happens when you let anyone other than Al Ewing write Loki.
NO! What the fuck? Talk about a NoTP! Hela and Thanos? Thanos needs to die alone and unloved. And Hela's married to Karnilla. >:(

Immortal Thor #8 Reactions
Tumblr media
Well, damn! That was fast. I'm not complaining, though. The premise for this issue feels like Loki might not show up, which I hope isn't the case. I've got a poem series to write.
Spoilers for Immortal Thor issue 8.
Damn, the quote isn't from an Edda this time.
Tumblr media
Listen, I've been in a (decommissioned, turned-museum) coal mine, and I hated it, so on the one hand, me the fuck too, buddy. On the other hand, last time I was on an airplane, I had/attempted to hold off until I got home a series of panic attacks so severe I had to take off work the next day, and (mostly unrelated) I'm also terrified of heights, so I don't wanna be in the sky either.
Tumblr media
On the other other hand-- hot bog monster mommy! (Yeah, none of those words are in the Bible and they shouldn't be; I'm copyright claiming all of them)
I'm cackling. Busy doing what?! Being the creature from the Black Lagoon?
"Don't fight Atum." Foreshadowing, perhaps?
Well. That turned into a poignant commentary on climate change really fucking fast.
It's not like he hasn't rebelled against a parent before
It'll take some thinking time, but even though Loki isn't in this one (which sucks), I have some ideas for a poem anyway
Also fuck yeah, Thor! Go fuck up Petrol-Man!
Except Amora is also there dammit
Tumblr media
Oh my god, Roxxon's writing Thor with AI??? Now I'm really pissed.
ISSUE 9 IN THREE WEEKS AGAIN??!! HELL YEAH!!!

I'm Obsessed with the Immortal Thor 7 cover art
This cover is so detailed and just gorgeous. The covers for this series have really all been full of details, but I want to talk about this one because of all of its connections to the myths (and also previous issues).
Spoilers for The Immortal Thor.
Tumblr media
Let's start where I always like to start, with Loki. He is buried under food, which (obviously, after reading) references his first trial of trying to eat faster than fire, called Logi both in the comic and the myth. I just love how so many characters in this myth are named versions of Loki's name (Logi, Utgard-Loki; Lukki was originally Hugi in the myth, as Loki says later), and I had hoped we would get an explanation in the mythology of why that is, but we never really do. (If anyone has seen an explanation, please let me know; I'm intrigued to hear about both contemporary analytical explanations or if an older source has an answer.)
Thor wrestling this weird, green cat. I love all of this. His tail is actually the head of a snake, complete with cute little hissy tongue. His back and tail have orange and black tiger-like stripes, but the pattern changes on his hind leg to a scaly look. The more you look at his cat face, the more you see Jormungandr's true face beneath! I love this. I love Jormungandr.
Okay, this isn't specific to the cover, but I just noticed Utgard-Loki's bone horns are shaped the same as Loki's helm. Also he's not on fire on the cover. Maybe that's to keep with the cool color scheme, but I think he looks way more metal when he's aflame.
Which brings us to these dice Utgard-Loki is rolling. They are certainly dice, but clearly only one side is marked. Why did Alex Ross (the cover artist) decide to only illustrate one side of each die? Artistically, I think probably to draw attention to these sides of the dice; if all visible sides were marked, there would be too many details with no obvious side to draw the eye. Thematically, Utgard-Loki has rigged all of these trials; the dice are meant to fall only on these sides. And each marked side has a different set of 3 runes, one of which we've seen already in this series: Raidho, which corresponds to the letter R. Interestingly, also on this same die is Thurisaz, which corresponds to Th (thank you, very difficult poetic theme choice for issue 3). So what I'm hearing you say is, hey, so is that middle rune Othala (because of course, you read that post)? Nope! However, it does represent a different sound for O (I think the long o ('oh'), because the name for the letter is Óss or "god" aka Odin, at least according to Wikipedia), so perhaps it still spells 'Thor.' Which would be BRILLIANT, because guess what the other die spells?! Lögr--kaun--íss, or LKI, LOKI. And thank god (heh) for that, because I was ready to go full analysis on the symbolism for what these runes represent, but we can safely go with Occam's Razor on this one. (Of course, I did do this with the issue 3 poem, so it's certainly something you can do, I just doubt that was the intended vision when Ross created the puzzle.) (And I am a little pissed I used Othala instead of óss/ansuz, because I could've done some great things with the symbolism. All well.)

As Simple As The End: A Poem
Spoilers for The Immortal Thor issue 7.
All stories must end,
It is the way of stories.
Yet, to borrow from another tale,
Something too much of this.
Is it too much to ask, O Norns,
For a clean break, with no unfinished business?
For a long life, for forgiveness from my brother,
At long last earned, without conditions?
Is it too much to ask, you Fates,
For a peaceful retelling, where the only changes
Are made by us, now, with nothing sinister
Lurking in the shadows, rewriting our history?
An ending. If only this were the last ending
We would have to contend with for awhile.
If only I were as everlasting as Wildfire,
As fleet of foot as my own Thoughts.
If only I, too, could wrestle Death,
And nearly stay upright with pride.
If only I could meet my own foretold end,
And live on to tell the tale of it.
But that all is behind us, brother.
My death and rebirth and rising
Like a phoenix from my own grave.
Now, like a raven, nevermore.
An ending, yes, an ending.
It is how these things go, brother mine, and yet,
Sometimes they are the hardest parts
For a Teller to sculpt from the clay of story.
Where do I end? When do I stop?
You told me once that I was the best
At running away. I think if you could,
You would eat your words now. Yet still.
How do I stop running, brother?
How do I let go, of life, of breath in my lungs?
How do I let go of you, when all I want
Is to protect you from whatever truths may yet come?
I know what it is like to wake to your life a lie,
Your parent a stranger, your world turned on its head.
I know what it is to unleash something so terrible
You cannot stuff it back into its box when you lose control.
I can help you, in this adventure, and the next,
But where does it end, Thor?
And when do I grow bored as your ally,
And return once more to being your foe?
I do not want to be your enemy again.
I do not want to go back to that past.
I'd sooner die, and I know that isn't a threat,
Isn't a vow. It's a premonition.
I hope I get a chance to write the ending myself,
But Thor, if my end is written for me, know this,
All stories must end, this is true,
But a story told once may be told again.

Immortal Thor #7 Reactions
Tumblr media
Again, I feel like I've been waiting for this forever.
Spoilers for Immortal Thor 7 and prior.
God. I'm never not gonna be so into Loki as the Teller. They're lovely.
Past Loki continues to be whiny and no fun
Thor calling Loki stupid, a coward, and adopted in the same sentence is fucking rude and uncalled for, even if 2 of those things are currently correct
Tumblr media
So there's this Winnie the Pooh movie (and chapter from the book) where Pooh eats too much honey at Rabbit's house and gets stuck in the door trying to leave and there's definitely if not an illustration then a shot from the animation that looks exactly like this panel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I get it, Ewing, you saw Endgame. Clever "America's Ass" reference, good job. I'm gonna get on a plane and fist fight you over this.
Tumblr media
FLAMING!!! SKELETON!!! FUCK! YES! LET'S! FUCKING! GOOO!!!
So I knew it was Utgard-Loki, but when he gave himself all those nicknames, I was like, Hey! The magpie calls Loki that, don't say we won't know his name. Some riddle that would be.
So at first I was like I'm gonna roll with the punches, but Marvel Loki (at least currently, I can't speak for prior to like early/mid-2000s) isn't really known for his eating prowess, so trying to out-eat fire like in the myth doesn't really make sense characteristically. I like this myth so I was willing to overlook the possible out of character behavior, but I just realized: he's hungry. He hasn't eaten in like three days! He doesn't want to sit though a bunch of trials they might lose and then still be hungry (and possibly also dead). He wants food now.
I've gone back and forth about Thor's constant smacking of Loki. On the one hand, they're siblings and most of the hits have seemed like (to me) acceptable level of sibling violence, like how my siblings and I would have smacked each other around as kids. (Not saying it's okay to do, necessarily, just that it's more typical sibling behavior, especially for siblings this close in age.) And given how long Asgardians live, technically they're probably closer to the equivalent of 14 or 15 here, so this kind of behavior seems "age-appropriate." On the other hand, they do look like a couple of 30/40 year old siblings beating the shit out of each other over petty nonsense, which is weird. And then you have panels like THIS.
Tumblr media
This is not smacking your sibling upside the head because they said something snarky. This looks like he intends to BREAK something. Damn, dude, and you wonder why he turns on you every other week for like a hundred years.
I take it back. I don't need to see this myth in pictures. Logi is off-putting.
Little disappointed we've erased Thialfi from this retelling. Loki shouldn't run on a full stomach.
Loki, I need you to fuck with Amora
Thor that's rude. Even if it's true.
Tumblr media
Best panel in the whole issue.
I'm gonna need to do a separate post discussing the cover because it's fantastic and so detailed
Also the poem gears are turning already!

Reacting to Contemporary Comics (Without Context) 12/?
Tumblr media
Yep, that's Balder. Got the mistletoe sticking out of his pretty chest and everything. This comic isn't dancing around the blame like the mythology does. Aguirre-Sacasa's just like, 'None of this Hoder did it nonsense. Loki's the murderer.' Which is a fair assessment.
Spoilers for Loki issue 2 (2011)
So this is between Mistress of Mischief (transphobic garbage fire) and Agent of Asgard (genderfluid perfection), so I guess we'll see how this goes...
I've... read this before. But I don't know where
Tumblr media
DON'T TALK TO ME. I'm having feelings about TWO FANDOMS AT ONCE.
Tumblr media
Man this panel is very stylized but he's so hot here oh my god
Yep, still in the let's cis-ify Loki phase of Marvel comics, I see. Not surprising
Wait, is this The Trials of Loki? I think it is. Well, that's good, because I have the full collection of that and can do a post for it later.
Wait, if Hoder is Balder's twin brother, why is he so much older? Hoder is like older than his dad in this panel, and Balder looks like he just graduated high school
Wait. Marvel, what? We're really going with disability as punishment in 2011?? What the fucking what? That isn't even part of the myth.
I guess that's one way to speed up the equalizing death of Hoder. We got a mini series to make; no time to conceive a new son and wait for him to grow up. Just have Loki do it. It all comes back to him anyway.

Reacting to Contemporary Comics (Without Context) 11/?
Tumblr media
Hopefully this one isn't nearly as concerned with commenting on Catholicism. Guess we'll see. [It isn't. I'd have included a TW if needed.]
Spoilers for Thor issue 33 by Torunn Gronbekk (2023)
Since when does Thor have another sister?!
No no! Why is the purple fucker in Vanaheim?! Thanos go away!
Oh my god mjolnir is doing the gold cracks thing like Loki's new MCU horns (and He Who Remains's citadel stones)
This comic is very heavy on the internal narrative, rather than dialogue. It's interesting
Again, I'm like 3 pages to the end and Loki hasn't shown up yet. What gives?
That's some false advertising!
Also who is that baby?
Okay next up is a comic literally called Loki, so if he doesn't show up until the end or not at all I'll be very surprised.

Reacting to Contemporaty Comics (Without Context) 10/?
Tumblr media
Returning to completely no context. Pre-old Loki's death, pre-everything good about my boi, pre-MCU (technically. I think it's concurrent with The-Hulk-Movie-That-Will-Not-Be-Acknowledged)
Spoilers for The Mighty Thor: Lord of Asgard #64 (2003). Also quite a lot of religious (mainly Catholic) commentary. (Actually commentary is putting it lightly. I go on a couple rants about Catholicism as an institution and the hypocrisy of the Vatican. It relates to aspects of the comic, but I'm drawing a lot on real world history and my own upbringing in the Catholic Church when I react to it. So if that triggers you or even if you feel like that will bother you, you might want to skip this one.)
This is a long one.
Who in the shit are these people?
Just call yourselves pagans and have done with it, you pretentious idiots
Thor stop being Odin. I'm about to be rooting for Loki for more than just principle
Oh I do not like this art I'm sorry
Mmkay, Imma need JP 2 to sit the fuck down and chill
"The church is quite tolerant." I'm sorry, it's what, now? Y'all drove me out for being gay and trans 16 years after this comic came out, you dumb shit
Sorry my Catholic trauma is showing
Shut UP my dude. You don't own the world. Stop
Okay I'm back to rooting for Thor if it's gonna be Thor Tells the Vatican to Fuck Off
Like (sorry I'm not done) where the FUCK does the goddamn Catholic Church get off trying to tell Thor not to go all Imperialist on Midgard's ass??? The Catholic Church! How fucking unself-aware do you gotta be to still reap the benefits of your centuries' old terror fest on the entirety of the goddamn world and turn around and be like "But he can't do the colonizing, boo hoo, it's not allowed if he's not being Catholic about it. :((( " Fucking SHUT UP
Okay rant over for now. I'm sorry, the Vatican's real world hypocrisy pisses me off too much to not address it in a comic book
Tumblr media
NORSE. PAGANS! VIKINGS!!! What the fuck is this dumb man
this dipshit really just used the "my son" shit on THOR. You condescending son of a bitch, that man is older than you by several centuries!
Tumblr media
(Commercial break I guess lol) The ads in this comic remind me that unlike the comics from like 2013 or 2019, or the vintage 80s comics, I was in elementary school in 2003. I remember this flavor of Kool-Aid. I don't remember what this ad is actually for, the mad voice twister (with Kool-Aid points? whatever those were), because I didn't read comics as a kid, but the flavor it's promoting I sure as fuck do.
Guys! People training to be warriors don't use real, sharpened blades, you dumbasses!
Okay, I was gonna say I was leaning slightly toward the priest's opinion after two pages of the Thor cult, but then I remembered all Catholic everything was conducted in Latin prior to like 1960 for basically the same reason these guys think they're talking like Shakespeare and actually no, you're all fanatics.
I did not expect this comic to be Religious Commentary: the Comic, with Lord in the title referring not to a medieval/Asgardian title but drawing parallels to Lord Jesus/ The (Christian) Lord
I guess I should've seen it coming. I've picked up on a lot of Judeo-Christian (I know that phrasing is contentious and for good reason, bear with me) imagery in Thor comics. Hell (no pun intended), they've been drawing parallels to the Norse gods and Christianity since Snorri (and I've commented on his Holier than Thou bullshit before)
Is there no other religion in this comic world but Thorism and Catholicism? I feel like I'm gonna look up this author and he's either gonna be an ex-Catholic or a current Catholic
You know I looked it up right after I wrote that, and wouldn't you know it, I both maybe spoiled myself and couldn't find out his religion or lack thereof. It's an interesting angle, and at the moment it feels like either a) he's specifically going after just the Catholic Church on purpose because he's got personal beef (or reverence, if the Catholics come out on top), or b) he knows Catholicism from a personal perspective (either as a current or ex-Catholic) with a lot more confidence than any other religion, and rather than risk grossly misrepresenting other religions out of ignorance or laziness or possibly more sinister reasons like an upsetting number of other white people, he has chosen to focus on what he knows (a religion which has coincidentally done quite a lot of harm to people who practice or historically would have practiced those religions he is not as well-versed in). But we're very early in the book and I also didn't read anything before or after this, so maybe Jurgens explores how other religious people respond to Thor in later pages or issues, or maybe he already did.
Oh. Oh no. When WASPs pull the religious persecution card, you know they're doing this shit for the wrong fucking reasons. (I mean, using WASP loosely here, since at least one of them isn't ex-Protestant but ex-Catholic, but the other three criteria fit these men. The demographic becomes slightly more racially diverse later in the text, but the three guys talking right now are all white.)
I'm getting flashbacks to when the Knights of Columbus came to talk to my Sunday School class in eighth grade and the guy got progressively more irritated with my classmate because he kept asking questions about the sword that came with the uniform, which supposedly was not the point of the order. I mean, c'mon, Mr. B_____, look me in the eye and tell me with confidence that the majority of those old suburban white men in your order did not join exclusively to get a sword. For the record, my (unknowingly) transmasc genderfluid ass was also extremely interested in the sword, but I was already aware I was barred entry into the order, and also already pissed that I'd officially been confirmed and then told I was not allowed to be gay, trans, ordained, or a knight by Catholic standards, two of which I already was but as yet unaware, one I wanted to be now out of spite, and one I'd always wanted to be. (But that's a story for a different blog. The point being, half of these Thorists joined to get a sword and that's it.)
The least believable thing about this comic is these kids go to Catholic school and don't have to wear uniforms. I'm sure those schools exist, but even if they don't have to, there is absolutely nothing on Ginny's body that would meet a dress code aside from maybe that turtleneck that covers everything.
Trent, a lot of non-Catholics enroll in Catholic school. Though the Pope is real pissed with Thor at the moment, so maybe not going to Catholic school is a good idea
They absolutely would not delay Mass for two teenagers unless they were getting married (which usually isn't a thing the church necessarily condones I don't think) or one of them was the Virgin Mary herself
that portrait of Jesus has the longest hair I've ever seen someone give him
LOL oh my god this priest is still arguing with Thor
"You are on the cusp of destroying the Catholic Church, Thor." PROMISE?!
"Your church is part of the ruling class and has been for centuries." PREACH, THOR!!! Also, Jurgens is ex- Catholic, I'm calling it now
"What good have you done?" THOR ODINSON, GOING FOR THE FUCKING KILL! We STAN
Loki continues to be nowhere in sight, but you know what, this is cathartic, a balm on my ex-Catholic soul, I don't even feel the loss
"...while befriending some of the world's most heinous dictators." hahaha, Thor knows what you did in World War II, Pius. He wasn't even fucking here and he knows. I'll bet Steve told him.
...did...did you just admit that the Catholic Church still uses tithes?! I don't think you're supposed to mention it!
Baby, being a nun doesn't make one a steadfast believer. Having a sister who's a nun but not you means even less
Oh we're comparing our plight to Native Americans now, huh? You do remember you live in a (non-religious) Protestant nation, right? The Catholics have limited legal sway aside from being white, but guess what? Most of you are white, too. They're not gonna go Trail of Tears or Cholera epidemic on your asses. I'm begging y'all from the distant future of 2024 to learn your motherfucking privilege before it's too late.
I'm gonna need your source for your second religious persecution claim, guys. This smells an awful lot like "Christians are so oppressed because someone told me once how bad missionaries are, boo hoo, my rights are being infringed upon" bullshit
"You really think we'll be arrested?" No. No, dude, I really doubt it. I think you could walk down the street with your sword sharpened and unsheathed and you wouldn't get arrested. You know why? Because you're a white man and ACAB, that's why. You might run into an issue if you try to take it on a plane, because it's 2003 and if I remember correctly it still takes like 3 hours to get past TSA, but other than that, I think you're good, man. This is just good old-fashioned fear-mongering.
THE PRIEST JUST DREW A FUCKING GUN WHAT THE FUCK
Oh now Loki shows up
I cannot believe Loki just restarted the fucking Crusades. I mean, the Pope lit the match, but Loki stoked the flames into inferno.
Wait. Did both kids die? That's what these panels mean right?
Fuck that's the end. What an insane concept for a comic issue holy shit
Well enjoy my residual Catholic issues and cynicism about white men getting away with whatever they want, I guess. This is what you come to this blog to see, right?

Reacting to Contemporary Comics (Without Context) 9/?
Tumblr media
I think this ends roughly where AoA ends, but the publication years don't match up so I could be wrong
Spoilers for Asgardians 4-10 and possibly any comics I tend to reference
"What becomes of a soul?" What does that mean, Loki?
Tumblr media
I thought y'all were exes?!
I think Planet Terry and Thunderstrike should make-out sloppy style
I want an entire duo arc of Throg and Yondu
Tumblr media
It's Him. The Little Lion Man.
Tumblr media
WHY IS IT ALWAYS FUCKING EGO??!!
well easy come, easy go with the gays. Not every comic can be written by Ewing, I guess.
Tumblr media
He's in a TREE. AGAIN!
Tumblr media
I am literally fucking sobbing. What the hell. The last thing he wanted to hear in "life" was his sister calling him Brother? Fuck me up
He's not even the real Loki! And I'm still gonna need approximately 5-7 business days to recover from this page
Well they're going to earth (I think), so maybe they'll run into the real Loki, but I think our boi might be undergoing Confession in the Void right now.
I'm like 90% sure this takes place concurrently with AoA, even though the copyright is a lot later
Heimdall continues to be a force unto himself I see
There's a GOTH BIFROST?! Dude!
The two genders: gay bifrost and goth bifrost
WHY DOES THE BRIDGE KEEP BREAKING?!
Heimdall's putting the fucking bifrost back together like it's a 10,000 piece jigsaw puzzle. Hey, Heimdall, doing the edges first doesn't help with shit. Just put it together however you can.
Dude Annabelle telling Heimdall to shut up is amazing
hell yeah everybody's gay in this comic too! Who wrote this, Ewing?
THORI, GOOD-- wait, no, don't eat Throg, BAD DOG
Is...is it because the boi is ego dead?
Okay I just checked my comic inventory and uhh... War of the Realms Omega is in The God Who Fell to Earth, not AoA. Which makes more sense chronologically, but now I'm confused
SKURGE HAS A GUN. THE PUNISHER HAS COMIC-CANONICALLY INTRODUCED SKURGE TO AN AUTOMATIC WEAPON! I AM LIVING I AM THRIVING
The panel of all the dead frogs when Throg lands in Central Park is devastating. I might cry again.
This comic did not need to go so hard on the mental anguish of a frog spoof of a superhero created as a joke but oh my god I guess I'm crying about the charred remains of dead fictional amphibians today
VALKYRIE'S DEAD???
Valhalla seems kinda empty. I know Naglfar and everything, but there's like nobody here
So I think that's the end of the Asgardians of the Galaxy run. I'll have to check. I mean, they abandoned Throg (essentially), Angela's in a different realm entirely, two are dead, Kid Loki no longer exists. This sure as hell feels like an ending to me.

To Change the Telling
Spoilers for The Immortal Thor issue 6.
To Change the Telling
I am no longer this.
Not this.
He declares as he raises an ax
Over his blond head.
Did you swear this when you cast me aside,
Dear brother?
Did you hear me say the same,
As you threw me from my apartment window?
All this behind us, before us, around us
In a cloud of hazy memory.
If I say I believe you, believe in you, now
Will you say the same of me?
Can we lay down our regrets
And leave them in the wake of my last death?
For as this twice-told thread unravels again,
Brother mine,
I still feel the lick of the flame
At both our fate-marked heels.
You may not die in this retelling,
But our story spins even as we recollect.
No, Thor, you are no longer this:
No longer prideful and brash,
Ego fragile and violent and impulsive.
If your being can turn with the seasons,
Can twist and wind as your story unfolds,
Cannot my own? Am I not entitled to my own becoming?
You still scarcely trust me, yet my palms
Still tingle with the memory of Mjolnir in their grasp,
My ears still ring with the echo of your words
Compassion. Restraint. Nobility. Wisdom.
If I am worthy enough of your power,
Perhaps I'm worthy also
Of turning back the tides of myth and memory
Of reminding you how it was then
While also weaving a new strand in the telling.
I have changed, and changed again
I change like the phases of the moon, and so
I can tell this tale in a way that will
Be worthy of mighty Mjolnir's strength,
The strength to change that which wants to be static.
There is capacity for change in you still,
I believe this, Brother, I do,
It's why I agreed to tell you this tale
This memory, this myth that could bring
Both of us so much pain, that could even
Take your life with this new telling.
I only hope that the change you welcome
Will be enough to save you in the end.
I do not dare impose upon the fates to allow
Our change to save me, too.

Immortal Thor #6 Reactions
Tumblr media
Has it seriously only been a month since the last issue? I feel like I've been waiting ages for this.
Spoilers for The Immortal Thor issue 6.
There's Sigfusson again, taking credit for Eddas he didn't write.
Teller's back! My love!
...When is this?
"...which draws both teller and audience in." literally read that while leaning forward because the overhead light was making it hard to see the words lol.
Loki wut.
Oh this is current to the arc right now okay
Loki why are you so dramatic as the skald
Tumblr media
Y'ALL. Y'all I shrieked and hid my face in a pillow
the poet gears are turning already
Oh my god why are these fuckers so cute?!
Thor oh my goddd! I'm not crying, you're crying
"I'm offski" Yeah I'm sure the OG Loki said that. That wasn't the millennial reborn teller paraphrasing, certainly not
They're so whiny, I love it!
I love when these two bicker. Siblings!
Amora, GO AWAY! No one likes you!

Comic Collection Update 1/24
Happy Immortal Thor release day! I picked up a few extra comics when I got issue 6. None that were on my list (I couldn't find them at my shop), but still interesting.
Tumblr media
Loki (Limited Series) issue 2: This cover is beautiful. I couldn't find the other issues in this series, and I have no idea what this series is about.
Thor issue 33: Not sure if my boi is in the actual comic (or if I'm going to like him in it), but I found this while trying to find a variant cover for Loki: The Liar issue 4 (which either my store didn't stock or does not exist. I'll need to do more research).
The Immortal Thor issue 6: Soooo excited for this! I'm really curious to see how the retelling of this myth fits in to the current story arc.
The Mighty Thor: Lord of Asgard issue 64: No idea what this story is but loving this cover.

Reacting to Contemporary Comics (Without Context) 8/?
Tumblr media
Had to reread my reactions to issue 4 to refresh my memory of where we left off and holy shit y'all here we go!
Spoilers for Asgardians of the Galaxy 4, 5, and possibly any comics I've mentioned before
Listen, I know that he wants to cause mayhem at some point, but the fact that even this version of Loki went to Thor when he found out Nebula was going to Earth, that he tries to negotiate with her when he finds that she's already gotten to Thor, makes me so fuckin' feral.
Neb, c'mon, a villain monologue? You're better than that. Don't show Loki your entire hand; he'll use it against you in 2 pages, even as a child illusion. Hell, blindfold him and tie both hands behind his back, and he'll still outwit you. At least to get himself and Thor out of there.
Okay Angela's acknowledging kinship with Loki, cool
I started this comic feeling things about the Loki-Thor siblings vibes, but I didn't expect to get Angela-Thor siblings vibes.
I have no idea what is happening. Not a fucking clue.
Oookay. So in the context of real Loki's timeline, this is after Thor has found out AoA Loki killed Kid Loki and took his place. He's still pissed with him. I think this is before or concurrent with ego death.
Angela's GAY?! Is every Asgardian queer except Odin and Thor?? (I have my personal opinions on Thor that I'll keep to myself, but canonically speaking)

Another Loki Playlist?!
If you're tired of the comic posts, I've got good news for you. If you're not tired of the comic posts, I've got more on the way.
I said on my last playlist post that I have six Loki-themed playlists. I've posted about 4 of them on the blog, and the fifth is Sigyn-specific that is an overlap of the Sylgyn and Logyn playlists. So now I'm posting about the (currently) last one: Frostiron. There are some overlap songs with my main playlist.
Many of these are specifically frostiron vibes from my Nights on the Roof series, though some were originally pulled from other frostiron playlists I've listened to.
"All Through the Night", Sleeping At Last
"In Case You Don't Live Forever," Ben Platt
"Temporary Love," Ben Platt
"North," Sleeping At Last
"For the Dancing and the Dreaming," from How to Train Your Dragon 2
"The Last of the Real Ones," Fall Out Boy
"The Lighthouse Keeper," Sam Smith
"Fair," The Amazing Devil
"Who Wants to Live Forever," Queen
"Immortals," Fall Out Boy
"Asleep At Last," The Wailin' Jennys
"I'll Be Your Man," Passenger
"Feels Like Home," Josh Groban
